2024.05.12 06:37 babycooaustralia Should kids wear elbow and knee pads in Australia?

Research
Research indicates that Kids Helmet greatly reduce the risk of head injuries, which are the major cause of death and injury to bike riders.

Wearing a bike helmet

All bike and scooter riders are required to wear a bike helmet in Victoria.
Mandatory bicycle helmet laws were introduced in July 1990. This applies when riding:
Police can stop bike and scooter riders and issue a fine or a warning for not wearing an approved bicycle helmet.

Bicycle helmets and public health

In 2016, the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) endorsed a position paper in support of mandatory bicycle helmet laws.
The AHPPC is made up of the Chief Health Officers of each Australian state and territory. They support mandatory bicycle helmet laws as an appropriate preventative measure which benefits the whole community.

2024.05.12 04:37 Relative_Copy8647 Is there a way to get frame protectors for scooters?

I know its a thing for motorcycles but does it exist for scoots?
I have a 2024 Honda metropolitan and I took a bit of a tumble taking a turn a bit too fast and scuffed up the plastic.
I already ordered paint to fix it but I'm a beginner so I was wondering if such a product existed for scooters or if anyone had any recommendations

2024.05.09 09:56 Round-Equal1163 Scooter advice

Scooter advice
Been in the market for used scooters and I found a preowned Honda Metropolitan 2003 with 7800 miles on it. Kinda up there in miles but it’s a Honda and looks very well taken care of. The guy did say that it Runs loud and won’t get up to full speed. Probably needs a carburetor cleaning and new air filter.
I don’t mind cleaning the carb and putting in a new air filter. Do yall think it’s worth pulling the trigger and getting the scoot? The guy is asking $800 but I offered $600 due to age, mileage and labor.
Also note, some minor cracking of the plastic as well but I’d probably just tape it or glue it tbh.

2024.04.24 23:56 Wise_Property3362 What's a good scooter for delivery

I can't afford a car so I'm looking into commuting by scooter I need something quite so I can take it on bike paths and preferably something that can pass for 50cc as I have no money for insurance/registration.
So far I'm thinking Honda metropolitan with a beefier engine if that's possible. I'm also looking for something than can do a long distance trip if need be though this would be a rarity. My budget is 2 to 3k.

2024.04.11 19:46 VictorSGhosh Is there a repair service for Electric Scooters in NYC metropolitan area

Hi,
I had purchased a Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 pro from Amazon in May of 2023. Recently while checking the tire pressure and pumping air, the air nozzle from the front wheel fell out.
A bike repair shop told me it was likely the tubeless valve that needs replacement but they don't do it since they are in bicycle repair business, not electric scooter repair.
I called Xiaomi customer service about it and whether they can help since it's still under the 1 year warranty period. They flat out told me there are no authorized services in the US for electric scooters.
I live in central NJ and I called every bicycle/scooter repair shops and scooter dealship shops in a 5-mile radius from my location and they all declined help.
Now I am looking for advice or info here on where I can get this repaired in NYC metropolitan area. I would prefer not to travel very far just to get this fixed. 😅. But any leads on repair shops of this sort would help.
Thanks in advance.

2024.03.27 21:53 devstan1 Questions about scooters. Needing advice.

I've been getting interested in the idea of geting a scooter recently. Mainly for just riding around in the neighborhood n to the store and to and from work (trip to work is a 6-7 drive and on 35 mph roads). I do have to drive a little bit (not even like 20 yards tho) on the highway to get into my work's parking lot.
My thing is I've never even road on a motorcycle as a passenger but I do know how to ride a bicycle lol. Are scooters easy to learn? Another thing is I don't know anybody who has one to practice on so I'd be learning on the one I'd duy.
I should also mention that while I am a little mechanically inclined when it comes to cars, wld that knowledge be of any use to scooters or is it a total learning curve different from cars?
There's a place near my town that sells Yamaha zumas 125, Honda ruckus and metropolitans, and wolf brand. There are a few others but these are the ones im interested in i think. Which of these are best? The price ranges of these are from 2k+ to 3700. Are these prices right? How do I know which ones I'll need motorcycle license for?
Or should I just stick my car and forget about it lol.

2024.03.24 19:32 Global_Wolverine_152 Just a safety reminder!

Just a safety reminder!
I know this is ugly but let it serve as a reminder. Things can go south really fast. I have 2 genuine buddy scooters and a Honda metropolitan. I got them all during covid.
The Buddy scooters have a peppy 2 stroke and have kickstands or side stands along with a center stand. This is the result of somehow riding off with the kickstand down. I took a hard left and it was like chuck norris kicked me over. I was actually miffed what happened but remember hearing the metal on pavement sound. I had left the kickstands down before while leaving my driveway but the transition dip to the road pushed them up. My helmet saved my head. My shoes went flying off. Always be extra safe - flying off a scooter as an adult isn't like wrecking on a bike as a kid.
Needless to say i removed both kickstands. A center stand is all you need.

Best Anti-Theft? Or should I really be so worried?
I just got this Honda Metropolitan. I know there are a couple of locks on it already, the typical key and the handlebar lock. I was wondering if using a cable lock was a good idea for antitheft (locking it so something unmovable) or if there’s something else out there that is recommended. The scooter will sit in my garage. However, my concern is more about when I go out in town and need to park it out of my site. With it weighing less than 200 pounds. My concern is that a couple people can just pick it up it if they wanted to and deal with the provided locks later.

2024.03.18 22:36 -crab-wrangler- How necessary is a full safety inspection?

Hello all! Sorry for posting a lot - jumping into the world of scooters! I recently bought a Honda metropolitan 2013 on Facebook marketplace with a bout 1200 miles on it. I’ve ridden it for about 50 miles since and there seems to be no problems except for a little bit of squeaking when I use the brakes. How necessary is it for me to go to a mechanic to do a full safety inspection? Or are scooters one of those things that if it feels OK they usually are?

2024.03.13 14:54 hungryepiphyte Fourth deadliest city for pedestrians takes another life

from usf 'He can't live his dreams'
University of South Florida student, 20, killed by a motorist while riding his scooter. He was at an intersection between student housing and the campus that has 'bike lanes' and pedestrian crossings. That intersection appears to go from 45mph to 35mph, but I couldn't find a speed limit sign showing that, just a warning sign that there was a 'speed zone ahead' and then paint on the ground.
As always, paint is not infrastructure.
USF is located in Tampa, FL, which was found to be the 4th deadliest metropolitan for pedestrians.

2024.03.09 00:23 l3or1s1ng My pick for my first scooter is the 2024 Honda Metropolitan. Tell me everything!

I’ve already got all the knowledge as to first time scooter driving, and lots of people to walk me through having it in general. But, I know absolutely nothing about making it more fun, or any niche information about the Metropolitan.
If there’s anything you wish you knew when you first got yours, anything you’ve put on yours that you like, etc, let me know!! I don’t like just HAVING a vehicle, I want to put all the love into it!
If it matters, she’ll be my daily driver, not strictly a project!

2024.03.06 21:52 NoDeparture7207 Carburetor question

Hey everyone.
Just a disclaimer, I'm not a mechanic and I fully expect things to challenge me. I bought this scooter as a bit of a project and I've been slowly learning some basics. Anyways, here's my issue:
Recently I replaced the carburetor in a 2005 Honda Metropolitan. It started right up and I figured everything was fine. However, since then it's been behaving like the jets are clogged. It will accelerate up to a certain point with a slight turn of the throttle but if I completely open up the throttle, it loses all power, almost as if there's no fuel reaching the motor.
I thought I might ask here before I tear out the carb and start pulling it apart, if it's possible that the jets on a brand-new one might somehow have gotten plugged almost immediately?
Any help would be appreciated.
Ps. I've also replaced all of the filters, the spark plug, and the fuel pump along with some of the fuel lines. Ive checked everything for leaks and to make sure the connections are all seated properly. It all looks good to me.
