I work at an atlantic superstore and I myself am supporting and boycotting loblaws myself. the only reason I work at the store is because of the locality and nobody else hiring. anyways saw this when I went on to the companies FLIP page figured I'd pop it here

As I think you are all aware, we’ve heard rumblings about an online movement organizing a “Steal from Loblaw Day”. While we aren’t seeing a lot of legitimate traction around this day – and in fact media and others have said how wrong this is – I want to personally assure you that we’re fully prepared to manage any disruptions to our stores. We want you to feel comfortable knowing we’re doing everything possible to protect you and your customers.
Increased AP coverage and security
The corporate loss prevent team has been working with store level support, along with key police forces. We will have increased security and management in all high-risk areas.
Theft in store protocol
If anyone witnesses a theft or event at your store, please remember, only trained Asset Protection Representatives are authorized to carry out apprehensions. No one should put themselves at risk. They should use the store phone to contact the Manager on Duty (MOD) and/or Asset Protection (AP) to relay the details, along with their observations of the incident. Please ensure all team members are aware, and have read the protocols posted on Flip.
Protests
If there’s a protest at the store, politely communicate that we understand they wish to create awareness of the issue, and respectfully request they do so off the property. Call police if protesters refuse to leave the store property. Remain calm and do not engage in a direct confrontation with the protestors. Emergency guidelines can be found here.
Taking care of each other
I understand this is an anxious time, and regular communications and engagement with all members of our stores is important. If you’re managing a store, make sure to continue daily huddles, regularly listen to our people an address concerns, and promptly address any issues that may arise during the day.
Huddle Tips

• I know there’s been concern around the online movement “Steal from Loblaw Day”
• I want to assure you we’re very prepared. We have full support from our asset protection and security teams, and we’re working with local police forces to monitor the situation closely.
• There will be increased asset protection at our store (If your store is in high risk locations, indicate there will be increased security).
• Remember, If anyone witnesses a theft or event at your store, please remember, only trained Asset Protection Representatives are authorized to carry out apprehensions.
• Your safety is always our top priority.

A groundswell of Canadians, groups, authorities, and many others have publicly denounced these dangerous actions. And we’re cautiously optimistic there will be little to no disruptions in our stores.

Appelez la police si les manifestants refusent de quitter le magasin. Restez calme et ne vous engagez pas dans une confrontation directe avec les manifestants. By now I'm sure we've all heard the news about the upcoming price increase. Every time this happens, there is a lot of heated discussion about the cost of 40k as a game and hobby. After today's post, I became curious about how the price of 40k has changed over time in relation to general CPI inflation (the % change to the price of a general basket of goods and services in a given country). Here's what I found and what it seems to indicate.

TLDR: What the Data Seems to Say

• Most kits I was able to source data for showed price increases below (often far below) the cumulative rate of inflation over the years.
  
• The exceptions, where price increases outpaced cumulative inflation, seemed to hit large units (Wraithknight, Trygon, Hemlock) the hardest. There are a few exceptions to this pattern (the Farseer, Tactical Marines). I wonder if they just realized that, since people often only buy one of these units they can psychologically justify a higher price for them? Hard to say for sure.
  
• GW seems to try to keep "core" infantry kits as close to the $50/$60 marks as they can, rather than raising them further to match inflation. Their unwillingness to go above $60 with the 1ksons Rubrics/Terminators/Sorcerers from 8 years ago stood out to me. I'd guess that they do this to keep the entry point into an army lower, so they can then make their money on character models and more expensive centerpieces.
  
• GW seems to use the release of new sculpts as an opportunity to break psychological price barriers (see the Genestealer jump over the $50 mark with the new kit). This has happened with other units as well, I'm sure you can name a few.
  

So, is GW Price Gouging?

• GW's Net Income EXPLODED in 2017 and the years to follow (https://stockanalysis.com/quote/lon/GAW/financials/cash-flow-statement/). 2017 was the launch of 8th edition 40k, and 3 years after former CEO Tom Kirby left the company. While we have seen price increases, they don't appear to have exceeded the rate of inflation across the broader economy (at least for a typical army with a variety of unit types)
  
• GW's annual reports show that, since 2017, they have grown their number of retail stores worldwide. Yet those retails stores make up a smaller percentage of total sales in 2024 than in 2017 (and no, online isn't picking up the slack). The biggest growth area is sales through 3rd party retailers. This suggests a massive growth of sales through local game stores, outstripping the (substantial) growth GW has seen with its own storefronts and online store.
  
• Subreddit stats and google trends all show an explosion of interest in 40k starting roughly in 2018-2019 and continuing at a very high rate up through today.
  
• All of this together seems to imply that GW is managing to grow their profits by greatly expanding their customer base and by raising prices to "chase" inflation as much as they can without pushing past it on aggregate (with a few exceptions on a model by model basis) to avoid breaking psychological pricing barriers for customers. In the future I may attempt to recreate the cost of realistic army lists at different points in the game's history to see how much the cost of playing has really grown over the years.
  

Reading the Chart
The "Price" column lists the MSRP of the unit in the stated year (bolded). You'll then see the current MSRP from the GW web store for that same kit or equivalent, and the % increase in the MSRP between the two prices (highlighted GREEN if it undershot inflation, YELLOW if it matched it, and RED if it overshot inflation). To the right of that is cumulative inflation in the relevant country (mostly US CPI data, but some BoE data) from the year of the original price sample up until today, 2024. I list the source and some notes further right. I will provide the source links below in this post.
Limits of this Data

• This data does not reflect how many models you needed to play the game in any given year. Army sizes ebb and flow across editions. In 6th/7th, for example, it was far more common for people to play 1850 games simply because 2000 points was too unwieldy. You had to put down a lot more STUFF for some armies to reach 2000 (remember 35 point rhinos? remember FREE rhinos?!)
  
• Some armies will always be relatively cheaper to buy/play due to the required number of units (see: Custodes). This data can't really capture that.
  
• 40k was already an expensive hobby 10 years ago, so the fact that price increases may be undershooting inflation doesn't mean it's cheap by any means!
  

Where I got my Data
40k "news" blogs like Spikeybits and Bell of Lost Souls post pricing information about new releases frequently, and have been doing so for a decade at least. I was able to find a variety of articles from as early as 2013 with data for models that exist in the game to this day. I also found an archived Livejournal where some guy attempts to do some price analysis on iconic units much further back than that, and I picked out the prices of kits that still exist today.

Heavy rain on the afternoon of May 7 caused a number of roads in Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City) to be deeply flooded, the water in the sewers overflowed black, giving off a strong stench, making passersby shiver. This afternoon (May 7), in Ho Chi Minh City, there continues to be widespread early season rain such as Thu Duc City, District 12, Go Vap District, Tan Binh District, Tan Phu...
Recorded in Thu Duc City, around 2:00 p.m., the sky turned dark clouds covered and then quite heavy rain appeared in many areas.
Some roads were locally flooded after heavy rain lasting more than 30 minutes, such as Le Van Viet and Man Thien streets (the area bordering Hiep Phu and Tang Nhon Phu B wards), Nguyen Xien street (Long Thanh My ward). )...
Some roads were flooded with deep water, causing cars to stall. Besides, the flooded water was pitch black and had a strong stench, making people shudder.
After a record heat wave lasting many months, for about a week now, many areas in Ho Chi Minh City have had the first rains of the season. The heavy rain lasted for more than 1 hour on May 5 in Binh Chanh district, District 12, Binh Tan... causing Quach Dieu street (Binh Chanh district) to be flooded for about 500m.
Previously, on May 4, many districts in Ho Chi Minh City such as District 3, Binh Thanh, District 1... also received showers, lasting about 30 minutes. Although these rains are not too heavy, they have helped to alleviate some of the sweltering and oppressive heat caused by the intense heat over the past few months, bringing a cool and pleasant atmosphere to people.
According to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station, in the next 10 days, high altitude disturbances (causing rain) will tend to work well, affecting the weather in Ho Chi Minh City. Forecast from May 8-16, some areas in Ho Chi Minh City have a probability of rain from 60-75%. On May 10 alone, all areas of the city are forecast to have a 75% chance of rain. The lowest temperature in Ho Chi Minh City will be from 26-27 degrees Celsius, the highest from 33-34 degrees Celsius.
The meteorological agency warns that during thunderstorms there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds; Prevent the possibility of heavy rain causing local flooding.

My SC year is 1 June 2023 to 31 May 2024. I have retained platinum to extend it to 31 May 2025.
I am flying QF2 London to Sydney Bus Class on 31st May at 845pm Lon time (i.e. 545am on 1st June Sydney time.). Does this credit to my account on 1 June 2024 (ie new SC year)?
The information I have found online suggests they credit for the SC year of your departure date and time, flight length and arrival date is irrelevant. However there's a lot of conflicting info online on whether it credits for the departure date of the locality of the flight or the departure date in Sydney time. There is no info on whether it would be the Singapore or London departure.
I am very much hoping it credits with an applicable date of 1 June (ie if it's First leg departure Sydney time, or Second leg departure Sydney time or Second leg departure Sing time). It will be useless to me if it's First leg departure London time. Note I have no flexibility to move the date of the flight.
