Curious about fan-made merch

2024.05.16 03:06 sandroaugos Curious about fan-made merch

Hello there. For a while I’ve been thinking about making t-shirts with football (soccer) players on them. I live in Denmark and am not sure about the laws here. But for example cultkits.com from the UK are a pretty big shop. They have super cool “bootleg” t-shirts with players on them, I’ve ordered from them several times, cool stuff. And of course they are far from the only site with items like this.
Do these sites really get permission from all these players?
I have a Martinez (Man United) “cult hero” shirt from cultkits. There is a picture of him on the shirt, where I noticed they removed one of the 3 Adidas stripes. Is this some sort of loophole? On their other shirts they remove club logos and kit manufacturers too, but still have the player name on.
Also if I wanted to start a shop, could I get away with making drawings/art styles of players and not directly use pictures?
Sorry for the long text and being all over the place. I am just curious about this, and if anyone can enlighten me a bit, I’d appreciate it.
TL;DR: thinking about selling fan-merch, and not sure where the lines are crossed.

2024.05.16 02:55 Gloomy_Bus_7771 Mouse misbehaves with multiple monitors

I swear this didn't happen on Ventura and it's really starting to piss me off.
I use multiple monitors so I'll have VSCode open on one and whatever on the other. If I move my mouse from a different monitor onto the monitor with VSCode and right click then close the popup the mouse DOES NOT respond to any hover events or clicks. Hovering over text doesn't change the mouse to the typing symbol and hovering over buttons and such doesn't change it to a pointer. My mouse is effectively screwed until I click on a different monitor and move it back.
Now this is not a VSCode issue, I can replicate it with web browsers and such but VSCode always triggers this 100%.
I can't find anything on Google for what the hell is going on but I'm tired of it. Please someone tell me what the hell it's doing any why my mouse states don't change when right clicking a different monitor.

Solution

The answer was: Pine Fresh
Solution: Part 1: Starting from the top of the maze, follow the path to the exit. Each symbol you come across is pigpen, but you must read it as you would if you were walking the maze. This spells out FLEURS DRAGON, which would be a COMMON GREEN WELSH
Part 2: Each dish is from a different country. Ring from the flavor text points toward Internation Calling Codes. Find the code for each country and then convert to a1z26, which spells out the answer of PINE FRESH
Countdown to Puzzle 3
Note: “Arithmancy Points” are not the same as House Points. House Points will be awarded at the end of the month based on the combined total of “Arithmancy Points” earned.

2024.05.16 01:52 Teaandcookies2 Simple Weaboo Contribution: The Four Auspicious Beasts of The Lands Between

Hello folks,
As I'll be leaving soon on an extended trip, I wanted to get this observation out of my system, and into the wider world.
Like many of us waiting for the DLC, I've been assembling my knowledge to see what insights I can glean from the base game before diving headfirst into the new content.
One thing in particular that stood out to me was the Lion Dance boss shown in the trailer, which- along with other rabbit holes I won't dive into today- led me to hypothesize on some IRL overlaps between the Four Symbols of Chinese/Japanese mythology and aesthetics and certain motifs and characters we experience in Elden Ring- in context, leading to the Stormhawk King mapping to Suzaku, Placidusax to Seiryuu, Miriel to Genbu, and Serosh to Byakko.
I'm not certain whether these superficial overlaps have any deeper meaning we might ponder, but I have found it helpful for contextualizing some of the relationships between factions and- most intriguingly- has led to a hypothesis that each Symbol has an inverted twin as well in the lore, feeding into the game's themes of complementary and antagonistic dual identities. The most interesting parallel to me is a possible thematic connection between Miriel and the Serpent-God of Mt. Gelmir; Genbu is often characterized as a turtle with a snake for a tail, which may originate from misconceptions of how turtles reproduce. Given the 1.0 text and subtle hints about turtles being associated with both wisdom and virility in Elden Ring, and Mt. Gelmir's association with perversion and reproduction, I believe that Miriel and the Serpent-God may have closer ties than are made apparent by the game's text proper, and this may have deeper implications for other overlaps between each region and its residents.
TL;DR - Miriel, Placidusax, Serosh, and the Stormhawk King seem to be strongly inspired by the Four Auspicious Beasts of Japanese mythology, and this may be a fruitful and relatively-unexplored overlap between Elden Ring and real-world mythology.

2024.05.16 01:13 apartmentpremium [HL2 Mod] How to change the font of the main title?

Hello, I am new to this community.
Currently, I am creating my mod of Half-Life 2. And I am trying to change the font of the title.
I searched a little bit and found that I should change the font name of "ClientTitleFont" in "Steam/steamapps/sourcemods//resource/clientscheme.res".
However, even though I have changed them, the font does not seem to work, and still the title glitches. I tried multiple times removing my mod and re-copying it at "sourcemods", but still, the font does not seem to apply.
Would there be any other solutions to try to fix this?

ESPN and IBM are teaming up to have AI take over fantasy football

So, I'm auditing a few courses on AI on a website and in this course they talk about how AI is going to be used to make predictions in relation to fantasy football (see the text in the image). Now, I don't play fantasy football, I don't give a shit about it, so maybe I'm missing something here, but it kinda seems like this would just kill the fun of it? I mean, I like video games, for example. I have no interest in an AI that just plays a video game for me while I watch. Also... if everyone playing fantasy football starts using the same model, wouldn't they all just end up making the same predictions? Why are these tech companies constantly finding ways to use AI to do things that people enjoy?!

2024.05.15 23:04 stubborn_dwarf Can I simplify these if statements? (Going between pages with mouseX, mouseY & mousePressed)

I have a lot of if statements, directing pages to other pages depending on where the mouse is clicked. Is there a way I can simplify these? I feel like copy and pasting 6 lines per page is unnecessary but I'm fairly new to processing. (Apologies, this is a long one).
/******************** Project Title: Character Selection Description: Based off of World of Warcraft's Character Creation. ********************/
I removed my void setup code because I'm not sure it's applicable. As well as all my PImage commands.
To make this post shorter, I am only including 4 blocks of code excluding void draw:
Please know there are about 28 of these pages and I'm slowly perishing, any help would be greatly appreciated. (Or any tutorials someone can recommend would be welcomed as well).
int page = 0;
 void draw() { println(mouseX, mouseY); if (page == 0) { background(bg[0]); fill(255, 150); textSize(34); text("Based off World of Warcraft", width/2, 24); fill(255); textSize(80); text("Character Selection", width/2, 75); My dearly beloved,
I have been looking everywhere for you. I have been looking in all the wrong places, in people who weren’t ready, weren’t sure or who didn’t care enough. People who weren’t meant for me.
I am 29yo, Latino, 6’0” with a bulky built, black hair and eyes, two tattoos with much more planned. I have a solid job/career and am financially stable. I have a plethora of likes and hobbies. To be thorough would take forever, but quickly: I enjoy reading (mostly non-fiction), movies (preferably in the theaters), huge music nut (everything but country), sports (love watching and playing soccer, pro-wrestling, baseball, football) and video games. I also work hard to maintain a regular gym routine. I enjoy going out and exploring the city, trying new foods and drinks or returning to old favorites. But I also like to have a day-in occasionally.
Within relationships, I am very affectionate and consider myself a hopeless romantic. I am very present and communicative person. We can text through-out the day, Facetime or even talk when we can. Love languages include spending quality time, physical touch, love notes and simply listening and investing time in my partner. We don’t have to share the same hobbies or interests. In fact, I love learning, discovering or hearing anyone speak about their passions. I will watch and cheer for you from the sidelines in anything you do.
I can promise you that I will give you all I have. I’ll break down my own walls and protect yours. I’ll work hard, I’ll trust you with my heart and soul, I’ll push you to go after your passions and what makes you feel alive. I’ll be an open book for you. I’ll always have your back, as long as you have mine.
I hope to hear from you soon, I can’t wait to meet you.

Bovada Sportsbook Review 2024

Bovada History
Bovada has firmly established itself as the most popular offshore online sportsbook for players in the U.S. Bovada covers a typical range of sports. It has a top-rated reputation for paying customers out on time, and we have always found the customer service at Bovada to be responsive and has multiple ways of staying in contact with a customer.
Bovada was initially part of the Bodog, the brand launched by entrepreneur Calvin Ayre in 2000. Bovada is the U.S. sports betting app, If you are looking for a sports betting sites in Canada Bodog is available today.
Customer Service
The customer service team works 24/7, 365 days a year. Bovada’s customer service team tends to be active across the web’s sports betting and gambling forums. There is chat, email and of course phone options for getting in touch with Bovada. If you are on X then there is a Bovada handle to follow.
Is Bovada safe? The site uses SSL encryption software to keep the connection secure. Bovada has been in business for over 20 years. If it was one of those rip off sites, then it would have gone out of business a long time ago. The team at Bovada has made it a premier offshore site and a large part of the credit goes to the responsive nature of the customer service department.
Website Experience
The Bovada site has all of the sports betting wagers than a US customer would expect. Ease of navigation, betting menu and overall aesthetics. It is easy to browse and the various sports and markets are laid out in an obvious manner. The site is devoid of unnecessary clutter.
The menu at the top of the homepage allows you to choose from the most popular sports, including football, basketball, soccer, and hockey. There are also icons that take you straight through to the live betting section and to a list of all the sports covered. A Quick Links section to the left of the sports betting homepage also alerts you to big sporting events that are about to take place, while you will see the most important upcoming ball games listed in the middle of the page. You can switch from American odds to fractional or decimal odds.
Sports Betting Experience
Bovada offers a wide range of betting options for anyone that likes to bet on sports. All of the major sports are covered, football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, tennis, golf, boxing, and UFC. They also offer smaller markets like, table tennis, badminton, winter sports, and Aussie rules. European sports like darts, snooker, cricket, rugby league, and rugby union will see them covered at Bovada.
As a US focused site, the United States customer will see their favorite sports offered with a large number of bets available. NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL fans will find betting options to choose from on each game. You will often find more than 100 different bet types on offer when you click on an NFL game. The odds include, spread, totals, and win as would be expected. However, Bovada provides fans with alternative spreads and props as well. Yes, Bovada offers same game parlays just like Fanduel and Draftkings do. If you are currently wagering at one of these books then it is worth taking a look at Bovada to see if your bet has a better return at Bovada. Why make an SGP bet for +800 when Bovada is offering +950?
What about European sports? Bovada offers more than 100 betting odds on a big Premier League or La Liga game. Popular betting options such as draw no bet, correct score, and half-time/full-time betting to corners, goal props, and more.
There is also a politics betting section at Bovada. If you want to bet on politics in the US, you must use an offshore site. Political wagers are banned at Draftkings, Fanduel, BetMGM, Caesars and all US located betting sites. It is against Federal law for any betting site located in the United States to offer bets on politics.
Betting Menu Odds
Bovada generally offers everything you would expect from Draftkings or Fanduel. In fact, when Draftkings & Fanduel first started out, they were just clones of Bovada.
Mobile Betting App Review
The Bovada betting app is a browser extension. Bovada offers a mobile betting interface with all of the qualities of an app but with one big difference. An app from the Google or Apple app store would also include a lot of spywares. Your every movement would be tracked. This is how BetMGM and Caesars apps operate. They have access to all of your phone calls and text messages on your app. Bovada doesn't operate like this. There is fare more personal privacy with using a browser extension than using an Apple spyware app.
Casino, Poker, and Other Gaming Options
The Bovada site includes sports, online casino, live dealer, poker, and horses. The online casino at Bovada is one of the largest casinos in the world and will satisfy 95% of online casino customers. Casino games including blackjack, table games, slots, and specialty games. The casino section displays a collection of featured games when you arrive, made up of classic slots, popular table games, and Bovada is constantly adding new games to satisfy the US gaming market. The video poker has 17 different game options such as; Deuces Wild, Joker Poker 52 Hands, and Double Double Bonus Poker. There is also a large variety of live dealer games.
Reputation
Is Bovada legit? The site has been around since 2000. It is not one of those betting sites that comes and goes in a couple of years. Bovada has been around for over 20 years because of customer loyalty. The customers know that the Bovada motto, "never missed a payout" is vital to staying in business. Bovada has also stayed in business this long by evolving to meet the changing desires of the US betting market. When customers want a new type of bet or a new casino game. Bovada responds.

Understanding the Rollover
If you do not understand what a rollover requirement is then please take the time to read.
What is rollover?
Rollover, or playthrough, is the total monetary amount of bets (aka handle) you need to place in order to cash out your bonus along with any winnings attached to that bonus. When it comes to Rollover, your wins and losses don’t matter, each qualifying bet contributes to handle, and the Rollover required.
Sportsbook Details:
Meeting Rollover in our Sportsbook is a tad different. For winning wagers we’ll credit the lesser of the risk amount or win amount. If your bet loses, your risk amount contributes toward Rollover no matter what. However, bets graded 'No Action', a tie or Pushed bet, along with canceled or voided bets, do not contribute in any way to the playthrough requirements of a bonus.
Casino Details:
There are also some games in the Casino that contribute differently to your requirement.
For full bonus details, including the Playthrough Requirement for your bonus, click the drop-down menu or Bonus Description.
If the bonus you’ve claimed is a Deposit Match, the requirement is a multiplier of the Bonus + The Deposit Amount:
Ex. Deposit $100 + $100 Bonus = $200 X Rollover Multiplier (Varies by Bonus)

2024.05.15 21:21 marginwalkr Return of the Mount Hua Sect - Chapter 123 - AI MTL

"...미친 건가?"
"...사숙?"
Here is the translation of the text in the tenth image:

2024.05.15 21:10 hippie-mermaid Sophomore Year Homecoming

In Sept. of 2018, I was a sophomore in HS and hoco week was near. I messaged my friend (we’ll call her Kate), who switched schools 2 years prior to leaving the school district, to see if she wanted to meet me at the hoco game. She said yes & then said she could go to the dance w/ me as well and told me that she’d meet up with me at my house the day of the dance. She had asked me to get a permission form for the dance since she went to a different school. I was really excited, but I kept my cool via text. I didn’t want to scare her off with my excitement. We were also planning to go w/ our other friend we’ll call “Joy.” Now, I didn’t know this nor was I told anything about her joining the loop until Kate sent us a group chat about corsages for the dance. And that was the last thing we discussed together regarding hoco & there was no further communication regarding us going to the dance together because I thought there was no need for further communication nor did the girls say anything further regarding the dance. Now, the next step for me was to email ask my vice principal if I could receive a form because I didn’t know if they had some in the admin office, where I had anxiously waited for a reply back. A week went by (this also happened the day after my 16th bday), and the VP finally replied back and said that I could. I was so excited, but also wondered how I’d be able to return it on time. So after school, I texted Kate and told her I had a form for the homecoming dance so that she and her school principal could sign it. She replied back and said “yeah I’m not sure I’m going to hoco anymore. Joy & I aren’t friends right now.” A little bummed out, I said “Oh I’m sorry. Do you think you & I could still go together?” She said “I’ll have to see,” then went on to say that she had someone from another school nearby ask her to his homecoming dance that same day. I was bummed out & didn’t really think of her ditching me at first, until I told my mom & older sister. They were mad about it (but my mom was more upset about it than my sister was), but I tried to defend Kate, which I really shouldn’t have. I defended her because I loved her & thought of her as my best friend (even though I had been around her in person a few times after switching schools, but still stayed in touch w/ her). But I also had a crush on her, but I didn’t want to admit it to myself at that point. I also asked Kate if she was still going to the hoco game, and she said yes. The day of, I tried looking for her and tried to text her. No reply back. I asked several different people if they’d seen her. Turns out that she didn’t show up. Was quite bummed out by this, but still tried to have a good time w/ some other friends. However, she did come to another football game and met up w/ me at my school 2 wks after the homecoming game, but I think that’s besides the point. Deep down, I was upset about the situation, but didn’t want to admit it nor did I want to talk about it. To this day, I don’t really feel comfortable talking about it anymore. But I think my mom knew that it was obvious that I was upset, though I tried to brush it off and tried to tell her that it was okay.

2024.05.15 20:30 Inevitable-Barber556 Debate me: Micheal Jackson is the most famous musician ever (more than The Beatles and Elvis)

There most watched respective events: This will give us some perspective as to what their most viewed accolades were and or in the most raw Terms to gravity of their reach.
Most viewed Beatles event was according to Google was there Ed Sullivan show performance. https://www.edsullivan.com/the-night-that-changed-music-forever-the-beatles-american-debut-on-the-ed-sullivan-show-turns-60/#:~:text=Never%20before%20had%20the%20world,television%20event%20of%20its%20time. Clocking in at around 70 million views, impressive now what’s Michael’s?
Micheal Jackson’s most viewed music event was his Super Bowl event which was seen by 133 million people in the US and 755 million people worldwide https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_XXVII_halftime_show#:~:text=With%20a%20audience%20of%20133.4,his%20then%20current%20album%20Dangerous.
His most watched watched event was his funeral which is watched by 2.5 billion people making it the most watched non-sports event in history (Scroll to service then live broadcast for quote) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Jackson_memorial_service#:~:text=It%20was%20estimated%20that%20more,sports%20television%20broadcast%20in%20history.&text=The%20memorial%20service%20is%20the%20most%2Dwatched%20in%20online%20streaming%20history.
Degrees of widespread recognition: now this one’s a bit more anecdotal however I feel like I can justify my claim. One of the most known African songs “personally” Is a Micheal Jackson tribute song https://youtu.be/ttdU19Kwce8?si=Oci8OGJ5Yv6l4VMS
The biggest K-pop band and just band in the world right now, their most viewed song is basically a Micheal Jackson tribute https://youtu.be/gdZLi9oWNZg?si=TtAAxBxeU6JgZbF-
Bollywood as an industry has countless songs that I paid direct homage or is directly inspired by Michael Jackson
The biggest male artist in the world (Drake) in songs like first person shooter, too sexy and even in his Latest beef with Kendrick Lamar not only does he constantly reference Michael Jackson but he also has a Michael Jackson figure in the video (6:07) https://youtu.be/ZkXG3ZrXlbc?si=CkkzPzGkREWnFDrN (4:20) https://youtu.be/Xty2gi5cMa8?si=ZjJRvHqFWUd6RK15 (1:20) https://youtu.be/vX9msKu75qs?si=nSYWstQcSezh_Ro0 Yes, Drake has mentioned the Beatles once, however his references of Michael are far more frequent and indicative of what he considered the highest heights of the industry and who’s relevant
People in isolated tribes in the Amazon are not aware of football and/or football players and the biggest ones at the top however they all know Michael Jackson. (3:31) https://youtu.be/eafOkWXjqjc?si=jtlIKTizwfcQZC3g
As an African myself I can contest that everybody knows who Michael Jackson is however very few people know who the Beatles are in Nigeria any few of them can name the members names or can even list the songs.
YouTube stats MJ has 30 million subscribers and if fuse ranges from between 800,000,000 to 1,000,000,000 typically speaking. Highest being 1.5b https://youtu.be/Zi_XLOBDo_Y?si=vbOaC-oSCvxBpx67
The Beatles have 8 million subscribers I’ve used typically raging between the tens to hundreds of millions to highest being 400 million https://youtu.be/NCtzkaL2t_Y?si=9mVePlEbkbD2PlKD
Modern era streams: Michael Jackson has 42 million million monthly listeners The Beatles have 30 million monthly listeners (this is to addition that there is a Disney special for the Beatles right now)
Pound for pound sales: This is the only category that fans of the Beatles like to use as it justifying metric 294 certified compared to Michael’s 289 certified. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists
However, how accurate is this list? Pound for pound Thriller (1982) - 70 million copies is more than double the Beatles best selling album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) - 32 million copies Michael Jacksons second best selling album is more sold than the Beatles best selling album (Bad (1987) - 35 million copies) Michael’s third bestselling album is equal to the Beatles best selling album (Dangerous (32 million).
Michael Jackson's ten best-selling albums collectively sold more than The Beatles' ten best-selling albums, with totals of 215.5 million and 142 million, respectively. The Beatles order so why does the Beatles have higher sales? Simple Beatles fans love to say how the Beatles have only been bad for like seven years plus years, however they released a total of 68 albums (studio, live, compilations, and box sets). Compared to Michael’s 22 (studio and compilations) plus additional live and remix albums. So even by the most crude metric of albums, Michael’s actually sold more
Why I didn’t discuss Elvis much:
Why I didn’t bring up Elvis as much as simple as metrics pale in comparison to the other two only has about 22 million monthly listeners on Spotify And this is after the movie he’s so blessed than Michael Jackson and The Beatles and shouldn’t even be a huge revelation but he didn’t tour outside of America so he’s not that known in many countries. In this TikTok were by Michael Jackson was placed in the top tree most famous people of all time and Elvis was in the top 10. The comments constantly kept referring to how nobody know who Elvis was outside of America and the West (Read the comments) https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGeCgXvtH/
Now why is Micheal Jackson the most famous musical act ever (and why this may never be replicated again) 1. The population of the world was far bigger with Michael Jackson was alive and active compared to when the Beatles and Elvis were active all while media was still largely monocultural
  1. media by this time as well was far more globalised more people outside of the west had access to media.
  2. Michael Jackson broke down racial barriers people who are white and people who are not white could all relate to Michael Jackson this is never really been done before to the same degree as Michael. Despite black Americans inventing every single popular music genre there was never one mega huge black artist and MTV still refused to play black musicians. that along with Michael’s music being very visual compared to his counterparts along with the many allegations that polluted his life, his iconography became stabilised everywhere
  3. This will never happen again because culture is far more fragmented now because of the Internet allowing people to stay in their little bubbles consuming whatever is on the TV it’s not a definitive way of consuming media take the biggest art in the world right now Taylor Swift Drake BTS Bad Bunny the Weeknd, Adele, Burna Boy, Ed Sheeran and Rihanna and Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar. Only Drake and Rihanna have both Cross border appeal and wide range of age appeal however Rihanna and Drake will probably (probably) never reached the success of who knows and yes, I think both and Beyoncé are more famous than Taylor Swift worldwide.
If anyone disagrees, let me know

Hi Everyone!
This is my first write-up of any kind of unresolved mystery, on any platform, so I apologize for any formatting errors and my storytelling ability. Today I would like to hear your thoughts on the very mysterious death of Noah Presgrove, a 19 year old from Comanche Oklahoma. I have tried to be as thorough as possible with the details, but there is a great deal of conflicting information in the news reports, so I primarily used facts stated by Noah's family in interviews. With that said, let's begin...
Noah Presgrove was a handsome, athletic 19 year old from Comanche Oklahoma, which is located just south of Oklahoma City in the middle of the state. Noah had recently graduated high school in the spring of 2023 and was waiting for his cousin to do the same the following year so they both could enlist in the Marine Corp together and serve our country. By all accounts Noah was a ladies man, standing at 6'2" with an athletic build, in high school he was a 4-sport athlete with American Football and Wrestling among them. His family also says he was adventurous, kind and very much a jokester who would happily play pranks on his family. Last Labor Day weekend, the first weekend of September 2023, Noah was deciding between attending Rocklahoma, an annual 3-day hard rock and metal festival held in Pryor, Oklahoma, with family members or attending a 4-day Labor Day weekend bash/22nd birthday party of a friend. Noah considered going to Rocklahoma, but changed his mind when the family members he'd be attending with said they didn't think it was a good idea for Noah's 16 year old friend to join them there, since they didn't know this friend's family and Rocklahoma is big for consuming alcohol. With that, everyone went their own way to celebrate the holiday weekend.
The Labor Day/Birthday party was for a female friend of Noah's who was turning 22. It had been advertised on Snapchat, even containing the address, so quite a few people were expected to attend. Noah drove himself to the party on Saturday and by all accounts enjoyed himself. He did text his family member who was at Rocklahoma and express regret at not going with them, but it doesn't appear that this put too much of a damper on his attitude at the house party. After spending Saturday at the birthday girl's house, Noah returned home Sunday, probably to freshen up and take care of any outstanding errands or just check in with his grandmother, with whom he lived. Also, Noah's car was leaking from the oil pan, so it sounds like part of the reason to return home was to leave it there so he wouldn't have to worry about it. There are two stories about what happened next: The first is that one of Noah's friends picked him up from his house on Sunday, but took him to a truck stop so he could grab some food from the Sonic there. Oddly, the friend who took him there says he left him there and Noah was then given a ride to the party by the birthday girl, who had to come pick him up. The other story is that his best friend picked him up from his house and took him directly to the party, leaving him in the driveway. Either way, Noah was back at the party on Sunday and according to those present, was very much enjoying himself. There were videos from the party showing Noah and his friends doing "guy things" like the Slap Game, where two people try to slap each other across the face as hard as they can. Just "macho" drunken teenage guy things. There was also video from the party of the guests playing "classic" party games such as beer pong.
With all the drinking going on, some issues were bound to arise. A confrontation happened between Noah and his best friend. Noah had been in a corner with his best friend's girlfriend and apparently they had their backs to everyone else while talking. The best friend took exception to this and an argument ensued. Luckily, it did not become physical and they made up shortly after, but this event with the best friend and his girlfriend is important for later. A second confrontation occurred between Noah and a 16 year old guest that did become physical. The 16 year old accused Noah of hiding his phone, although the reasons why he thought Noah did it have not been stated. During the argument the kid "fishhooked" Noah and Noah returned the favor by biting his finger. It seems like the other people there were able to diffuse the situation and the kid's phone was found underneath another guest who was sleeping on a couch. As the day went on, things continued to become crazier as the people at the party drank more and more. At one point girls at the party started signing their names on Noah's torso and buttocks, writing things such as "Noah's hot!" and drawing a cartoon penis on his rear-end. Noah and the best friend he had the argument with even drove a John Deere "Gator" UTV "Side by Side" around the property, but stopped when Noah scrapped his hand almost flipping it over. Some people even say that Noah was tossed from the UTV, but he was checked out by a nurse at the party and she said he had nothing to worry about. Another event worth mentioning is that the birthday girl seemed to have a crush on Noah. Noah realized this, or was told this, and while talking to her about it called her a "fat, nasty b*tch". I assume that they were close friends and this is just a drunken teen being a drunken teen. An odd thing to mention is that this girl's mother, who also lives in the home, had told Noah's family that she believed Noah wanted her sexually. Whether this is true or not, I have no clue, but it seems a very weird thing to say to the family of a 19 year old your daughter is friends with.
So here's where the mystery comes in. Early Monday morning (September 4th, 2023), after 2:00am, the guests say that Noah was upset about something and that it might have had to do with sleeping in either the birthday girl's or her mother's bed. One of them either heard, or saw, Noah attempting to sleep in their bed and demanded that he go on the floor. This apparently upset Noah so much that he said he needed to go out for a walk, completely drunk, very early in the morning. The guests say Noah was wearing his best friend's shorts (we'll get to his clothes later) and could only find one of his shoes, so he grabbed another shoe lying around the house and took off out the front door. The house had a 1/2 mile long driveway that then went out to US-81, a major North-South highway that runs for 1,200+ miles through the central US. At 3:41am, a friend of Noah's posted a weird Snapchat: a photo of a girl at the party smiling, with the caption "well, Noah's missing". This was the last Snapchat posted by any of the partygoers after days of constant videos and pics. Around 5:00am, a semi-truck driving along US-81 saw something he believed to be a body lying on the shoulder of the road. After driving past, he became concerned and turned around to confirm what he saw. By the time he got back, two other vehicles had stopped in front of the lifeless body of Noah on the shoulder. He was completely naked wearing only 2 mismatched shoes and curled up in a fetal position. He appeared to have blunt force trauma to the back of his head. He had small scrapes on his left shoulder and left hip and his fingertips on both hands were reported as being "shredded", down to the bone. Noah's front top and bottom teeth had also been knocked out and they were found scattered at the scene. There was no blood found at the scene, other than a small amount around Noah's injuries. Very concerning was the fact that there was no writing on his body anywhere. Not on his torso and not on his buttocks. The shorts Noah was wearing were found folded up next him. The people at the party said "They must've been knocked off when he was hit.", which obviously does not make sense.
Around 6:00am, with the police already notified by the people who found Noah, all Snapchat's/social media from people at the party was deleted. His friends and acquaintances at the party say they have no idea what led up to his death and they were unaware of it. The police did not search the house because they said: "Noah wasn't found there.". They did eventually conduct a "mass" interview with all the partygoers. During this interview, Noah's best friend's girlfriend, the one that led to his first confrontation, told police she had never met Noah. She had wiped her phone so completely that even her boyfriend's number had been deleted. When the guests were asked about Noah being naked, the girls said they gave Noah a "shower", but Noah's mental state at the time, whether mildly drunk or completely inebriated, has been an area of dispute among the guests. Some say he was joking around and being himself while being showered, other accounts state that he was barely conscious. Noah's clothing he wore to the party that night has never been located. Police were told that after Noah showered his clothes were dirty, so he wore his friend's shorts. There is a rumor that his best friend's father found Noah's shirt from the party, which was then cut-up and distributed to the party attendees as a "memento". In addition to this event with his shirt, there is also information that his best friend's father had some of Noah's teeth in his pocket. He stated he "accidentally" picked them up from the crime scene. It's worth stating that this particular individual has been on Noah's family's Facebook memorial page for months, arguing with others on there. Just very odd behavior from an adult father who's son's best friend died mysteriously. But, on this same topic, NONE of the partygoers or their families have ever visited Noah's family to express their condolences. Never once.
Since Noah's friends and others at the party said they didn't know what happened, the police had their work cut out for them. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol obtained a "geofence" warrant covering a 1-1/2 mile radius around the party house. What they found was a bit disturbing. Around the time it is believed Noah died, 2 phones were traced as having left the house, heading to the location of his body. After briefly staying there, the two phones returned to the house. People at the party told a private investigator hired by Noah's family that they went out looking for Noah in the UTV/Gator that Noah and his friend had been on earlier. If they had really done this, they would have found him since the phones were at the spot Noah was found. It has not been released who exactly this was. Also revealed when police searched phones was a video of the birthday girl and her sister on their front porch, screaming at each other about Noah leaving the party. It is believed that this could be relevant. The Texas Rangers also became involved, due to the fact that two men at the party were from Texas. It is not known if these men are persons of interest. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol also quietly issued a warrant for a "black pick-up truck" believed to have been used to dump his body, but it is unknown why they are looking for this particular vehicle. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has unequivocally stated that this was 100% NOT a hit-and-run. They have now also said that this is NOT a murder investigation. The Medical Examiner's report released on Monday, May 13th 2024 stated that Noah died from "Multiple Blunt Force injuries", but list the manner in which this happened as "unknown". His report also detailed extensive injuries to the teen's upper body, including 10 broken ribs, serious skull, neck, and spine fractures, internal bleeding, brain and organ damage, and cuts and grazes all over his body. The autopsy also revealed air in both his cranial cavity and spinal cord, extremely rare conditions only caused by massive head trauma. The family has heard rumors that a golf club from the set in his best friend's truck may have been involved, but nothing else has come of this.
The family has engaged with a private investigator, who did uncover previously unknown information, and gave that to the police. They have also said that there is much more which has not been publicly released and that the search of the phones did uncover good information. Also according to the family, some evidence has been covered-up or lost and that the day after the party, the birthday girl's house and property reeked of bleach. Despite this, his family says good things are going on behind the scenes.
So, with all of the above information, it doesn't seem to be a stretch to say that someone from the party knows something. It is my personal belief that this case will be resolved, but I think three things will have to happen: Time, Pressure and Guilt. At some point in the future, someone from the party will feel guilty, or media pressure will get to them and they will talk. Unfortunately, it may take some time unless the police uncover new evidence sooner. Thank you very much for reading this, but please let me know your thoughts on this case and feel free to ask questions.

2024.05.15 19:24 JemimaPrima Birthday blues…

I get sad every year on my birthday. For me the day symbolizes the question: ‘Do people care about me enough to write a text to simply wish me a happy birthday?’
It was yesterday and even tho there was a lot of people who texted me and wished me a happy birthday irl I got hyperfixated on the people who didn’t text me; There was two of my good friends whom I heard nothing from, and I have had them in my life for 10 years. It kinda ruined the day. On my fb wall there are also fewer and fewer every year who makes a post on my wall. It bothers me a lot and makes me wonder if there is anything wrong with me and it makes me anxious and nervous.
I know there can be many reasons why I didn’t get a text from my good friends, maybe they forgot, where busy etc… But it doesn’t make me feel better. I’m just so disappointed and sad and it almost makes me reconsider my friendship with them.
Please don’t make comments about me being dramatic - I’m a SO 4w5, so life can be extra hard sometimes..
Anyone who can relate to my thoughts and feelings?

Small review: my first split - Sofle low profile
I've been using the Sofle as my main and only keyboard for six months now. I bought it from FalbaTech, presoldered but without keycaps and a case. At the time, I couldn't afford a case and keycaps, so I designed and printed case and adapter from choc to MX myself. The keycaps are salvaged from my previous keyboard. Both designs are crude and made with material usage and ease of print in mind, rather than quality. I've now ordered the official FalbaTech wooden case and can't wait to give this keyboard the upgrade it deserves.
I use Sofle for programming, gaming and everything else. For me it was straight upgrade in every usecase. As this is my first split, many things were suprising for me.
Programming Using layers has really helped my wrists, especially the navigation layer. For Vim commands, everything works fine. Switching numbers and symbols like a toggle layer would be great, and I will experiment with it in the near future. System and IntelliJ shortcuts need to be learned again, but that is expected.
Gaming At first, I was worried that it wouldn't be as comfortable to game on as a normal keyboard. Oh, how wrong I was. The thumb cluster is super useful. Changing from WASD to ESDF is a one-way journey. The small finger can access eight keys while still having full control over movement. It feels great.
Everyday use I can finally plug the keyboard into my smartphone. This keyboard fits in a bigger pocket. With this setup, I can do some basic programming exercises on my phone while traveling using Termux and Neovim. Knobs are used to control volume, toggle mute on discord, and scroll text.
Conclusion I moved from a standard full-size keyboard to a split 52-key ergo keyboard and I haven't looked back even once. For me, this amount of keys is large enough to feel familiar and small enough to teach how layers can be useful. For the last six months, I've tweaked my layout using Via. Now, I want to go deeper and customize the OLED screens.
10/10 Hello new hobby, hello community! Thanks FalbaTech for great introduction to custom keyboards.

2024.05.15 18:10 adulting4kids Wisdom of Solomon Deep Dive Study

As I mentioned in a post earlier today, I have decided to embark on the religious studies journey by preparing a special study guided series of self paced dynamic verse by verse incredibly high level of studies in secular and spiritual development of the world cultural and religious traditions that's going to include numerous types of sources texts from every single type of practice I can unearth thanks for the Good old Google and Bing research resources.
This started with the Gnostic texts and the Dead Sea Scrolls with the Gospel of Thomas and the Book of Enoch. It has been a few weeks and I have literally gotten so far ahead of myself that it seems like I am overdue and overwhelmed by such an amazing task. This is why I am not sure if I should really be posting it but if not here, I would not know where to ask for advice and feedback and guidance and editing and moral support and even research assistance and input from anyone whose willing to assist in any capacity.
There's nothing to do except process the questions and help with the commentary and limitations of this format and the hope that there might be at least ONE human being that's interested in similar things that's willing to help in whatever capacity they can....
I had plans of trying to make it easier for everyone by trying to finish at least one full text before posting others, but I don't think it's possible because I keep going from different ones back to these then to those then back to that regardless of the fact that I am confused and staring to get burned out before I get started....
So I have changed my mind about finishing up one to present for the group and will simply be posting some daily stuff for your input and feedback. I'm not trying to make you convert to any faith as these guides will cover every single type of practice eventually.
Today is Wisdom of Solomon day so I have to unpack my own stuff here and I have no real formal plans yet for how to present it all, that is based solely on the fact that I am also doing this for my own spiritual growth and development and so there's no formal plans for publication as a project yet....
Anyway this is a basic overview of how I have been working on my project and I love the fact that you still might be reading after that long winded meandering message!

I will post the Book of Enoch stuff later on which is already much more in depth with the commentary and study materials and I think that it's coming along nicely. This is just beginning so I figured it was a good skeleton to illustrate where I start off then I will give a much better clue 🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️ to where it's headed later today when I can format the Enoch stuff for posting.

2024.05.15 18:09 DrDoritosMD [Stargate and GATE Inspired] Manifest Fantasy Chapter 16: Power Play (Part 2)

Author’s Note:
Upvotes and comments go a long way in helping me reach a larger audience <3
First
Inside GB-2
“Huh, that wasn’t there before,” Ron said, pointing to a new hole in the wall – another passageway.
Henry turned to look where Ron pointed. Sure enough, there was a new doorway. It must’ve been a section that opened after they restored the power. “Huh, yeah. Let’s check it out.”
He went through, finding a short hallway past it and another room just beyond. Henry signaled for his team to form up, preparing to breach. As they stepped in, they found themselves in a brightly lit room filled with various types of furniture – empty pedestals, comfortable-looking single couches, and empty desks with opened cabinets.
Henry stepped further into the room, eyeing the oddly arranged furniture. The single couches were lined up in neat rows, all facing the same direction – towards the empty desks. It was like some sort of waiting room, but for what?
“Is it just me, or are these couches set up weird?” Isaac asked, voicing the question on everyone’s mind. “I mean, who lines up a bunch of single couches like this?”
“Strange, indeed,” Sera agreed. “They seem arranged as though for spectators, yet naught lies before them to behold.”
Like a movie theater, Henry thought. However, there weren’t any screens or holograms to watch. If there was a clue, it would probably be within the couches themselves.
Dr. Anderson approached one of the desks. “Perhaps this was some sort of office or workspace? The desks and cabinets certainly suggest that.”
Isaac then decided to touch one of the seats, eliciting no reaction. He pushed further, sitting down on one of them. At that point, the couch began to adjust its form to better suit Isaac’s envirosuit, as if able to optimize its comfort for the user. Then, a nozzle slowly stretched up from the seat’s headrest area, stopping just short of Isaac’s neck. “Woah!” Isaac bolted up as the nozzle bonked against his helmet.
“Neural interface, maybe?” Henry wondered. “I think we should leave this to the researchers… unless you wanna volunteer as a lab rat?”
“Hell nah,” Isaac vigorously declined the offer. “Hey, there isn’t anything on my helmet is there?”
Henry dusted off the back of Isaac’s helmet with his glove. “Nope, you’re clear. Just gotta hope it ain’t grey goo.”
He could see the dread and uncertainty through Isaac’s visor. Henry gave him a pat on the shoulder. “Well, think about it this way: if it really was grey goo, it would’ve gotten to us – or the Spiranids, for that matter – long ago. C’mon, let’s secure the next room.”
With a nod, Isaac fell in line behind Henry as they moved towards the doorway leading to the adjacent room. Peeking inside, it couldn’t be further from the rest of the room’s they had encountered so far; not at all what they could’ve possibly expected inside an ancient, high-tech alien facility. It was expansive, with a layout that reminded Henry of a high-end restaurant. Comfortable booths lined the walls, while tables of varying sizes filled the central space. The furniture looked almost human – perhaps even indistinguishably so.
The room was tinted with a soft, cozy yellow light. The warm and inviting ambiance felt soothing compared to the clinical feel of the previous areas. The lighting, combined with the plush booths and elegant tables, gave Henry a nostalgic impression.
“Well, I’ll be damned,” Ryan remarked. “Think they got any cheesecakes?”
If it wasn’t for the alien decor and helping of sleek devices scattered around the room, Henry would’ve thought they were back home. Hell, there was even a bar, filled with exotic liquors that could probably fetch millions at an auction – or give them the trip of their lives. Beside it however was something unusual. Where he might’ve expected a path leading to the kitchen, he instead found a wall with a slight, rectangular-shaped recess that was just big enough for a tray.
He glanced at Isaac, who returned a knowing look. “Replicators,” Isaac said.
Henry smirked. “Personally, I’m partial to synthesizer, but to each their own.”
They gathered around the wall, which didn’t seem to respond to their presence. Taps on the wall didn’t seem to do anything, either. Henry considered probing further, but decided against it. “Alright, let’s not take any chances. We’ll make a note of this for the research teams to analyze later. Let’s keep looking around.”
Henry split apart from the others, pairing with Ron as they continued to walk around the room. They soon came across another doorway on the far side of the room, which opened up into a short corridor that led into multiple sets of doors. Each had a symbol on the wall beside the doors – one that depicted the basic figure of a person.
Ron pushed open one of the doors, taking a peek inside. “Looks like even the Gatebuilders needed restrooms.”
Finally! “Alright, let’s take a quick break here. Bring everyone else over.”
Thankfully, the amenities within were easily comparable to those of modern society. The toilet looked like a toilet, and the sink resembled a sink. Even in a space as mundane as this though, the Gatebuilder’s technology was evident: self-cleaning surfaces and enough technology to put a high-quality Japanese bidet toilet to shame. At least, that was just from the look of things. Henry didn’t think now would be the best time to check whether the restroom had ass-washing robots or not.
After a few minutes, Henry regrouped with the rest of the team around a central table in the ‘restaurant’. Dr. Anderson was already present, his archaeological kit opened and a spread of alien items organized on the table.
“Ah, Captain!” Dr. Anderson noticed him approaching. “We found cabinets that weren’t empty. Most of the artifacts appear to be personal effects.” He held up a necklace, emphasizing his point. “Jewelry, memorabilia, and some other artifacts that I – admittedly – can’t quite describe.”
Dr. Anderson pointed his pickup tool at a small disc laid out on a padded mat. “It hasn’t shown any active properties yet. It’s rather peculiar; it seems to be a solid disc. Lightweight, unblemished surface, no visible markings or etchings.”
“Have you tried touching it directly?” Henry asked.
Dr. Anderson frowned, manipulating the claws of his pickup tool. “Well, not directly.” Catching the implications in Henry’s query, he continued, “I’ve checked for radiation, toxins – all clear. While I’d advise against direct contact, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t the least bit curious.”
Henry nodded. Yeah, the Doc was probably right, but what was discovery without risk? He reached out and picked it up, rotating it in his hands. As his gloved fingers brushed against the surface, the disc suddenly emitted a soft glow.
Henry flinched slightly, almost dropping the disc in surprised. As he fumbled with it, the disc seemed to respond to his touch. Suddenly, a series of objects materialized on the table, appearing out of thin air.
“Oh, shit!” Ron exclaimed. “It just… spawned a bunch of stuff!”
Henry stared at the new items. Several containers, probably holding some kind of food, were still sealed tight and impossibly effective at insulating its contents. It was crazy to think that the food inside might still be hot after who knows how long.
Next to the containers was a bracelet. Possibly normal, possibly enchanted or integrated with technology they couldn’t hope to understand. There was also a bottle of some bright blue liquid – probably for drinking, but there was no way to be sure until Perdue tested it. And then there was the picture, showing a strikingly human couple, holding each other underneath a gorgeous alien sky. It reminded him of memorabilia people would sometimes keep in their wallets, though why humans were there was a mystery.
The last object the disc spat out was a thin, transparent sheet. Coincidentally, it was about the same size as a smartphone. If he had to guess, it probably had the same function as one, too.
“Incredible,” Dr. Anderson gawked at the items. “The disc must be the Gatebuilders’ version of a wallet, somehow using dimensional storage technology!”
“Akin to the Holding Bags,” Kelmithus noticed. He peered into his own Holding Bag, his expression indicating that he was connecting the dots. “Fascinating!”
Dr. Anderson then inspected the image, his face reflecting the same confusion Henry felt when he first saw it. While they continued to sort through the items, Henry explored the sheet further. The moment he tapped the screen, a holographic interface sprung into existence above it.
What he had initially thought was a simple hologram was something far more advanced, almost indistinguishable from reality itself. Almost instantly, they were surrounded by mountains and valleys, details springing up to form a realistic, three-dimensional map.
It was like a pocket holodeck. The only anchors the projection had were the various icons and pockets of text floating around – and the fact that the hologram was transparent enough for him to see his surroundings and his teammates.
Sera seemed to be the most shocked out of all of them. He couldn’t blame her. The sight was surprising enough for himself, who was even familiar with the concept through sci-fi; how much more alien would it seem to someone from – effectively – the past?
“I’ve not beheld such a spell… ever!” she exclaimed softly, pausing to gather her thoughts. “Hold on…” she continued, pointing to the distant peaks. “Why, yon mountain range! Does it not strike you as familiar?”
“Huh?” Ron squinted at it. “Does it?”
“No, yeah, it does!” Isaac said. “Shit, uh, is that the Ovinne Mountain Range?”
Henry brought up the file for the Ovinne Mountain Range on his visor, comparing it to the hologram. “Huh, yeah, it is. What’s a map of that doing in here, though?”
Dr. Anderson raised his hands in the air and spread them apart, mimicking a zoom. Lucky for them, the alien tech seemed to understand what they were going for. Now up close and in full detail, the Ovinne Mountain Range dominated the room. Somewhere in the mountains, an icon that looked like a pair of glasses sat right on top of a Gatebuilder tower, barely poking out of the mountainside.
Ryan crossed his arms as he scrutinized the hologram. “Is this what, Find My iPhone?”
“Hmm… rather likely,” Dr. Anderson agreed. “This device must be some sort of Locator.”
“Locator, huh?” Having this clue was an incredible breakthrough, but he noticed something else. “And right where the Ovinne Mountain Campaign’s supposedly taking place, at that.”
“Indeed, that you mention it, such alignment is surely noteworthy,” Kelmithus remarked. His voice took on a more excited note, “Be it fate, perhaps?”
Henry smirked. “Hah, you’re sounding a bit like Sera, now. Well, looks like fate’s telling us where to go next. Let’s pack this up and head back.”
They carefully stowed the various artifacts in their holding bags, Henry holding on to the Locator. They made their way back to the locker room where they first entered, everyone excited for the next step in their mission.
Henry stepped through the airlock first, emerging on the other side. As he did so, a faint sound caught his attention. It was distant, muffled, but definitely not a sound that belonged to this facility. He wanted to take off the envirosuit, but it seemed that had to wait.
Ron came through the airlock after him. “Bro, you think –”
Henry held up a hand, stopping him short. He raised his weapon, picking up on the ‘something’s not right’ vibe.
Activating his infrared vision and using the laser mounted on his M7, Henry searched for signs of thermal distortions, just like he’d done back at Duke Vancor’s mansion. Ron did the same. As the rest of the team emerged from the airlock, they quickly caught on to the situation. Without a word, they joined them in securing the room.
After clearing the locker room, Henry signaled to move on to the lab next door. It was just as empty as the locker room, but now the sounds were more audible, definitely coming from the hallway just outside. Instructing his team to hold still, he crept toward the doorway to investigate.
He peeked around the corner, and felt his stomach drop. There, in the main hallway, was a group of soldiers. They were decked out in distinctive black armor and cloaks. They had no identifiable markings or insignia on their armor, but it was obvious – these were Nobians.
Henry pulled back, returning to his team. “Contact outside. At least a dozen Nobians securing the hallway.”
Ron’s expression grew serious. “Shit. Any idea on their entry point?”
Henry positioned himself behind a desk, aiming his weapon at the doorway. “Probably the same way we came in.”
“Main corridor’s the only play, huh?” Ryan said.
The main hallway only had one line of sight, and it just happened to be the only way out. Well, the only one they could reasonably access. The facility probably had other exits or fancy teleporters, but they’d already scoured the area for the former and wouldn’t be able to figure out the latter.
“Dozen hostiles doesn’t seem like a lot,” Isaac pointed out, taking out another Black Hornet from his bag. “We’re still good on ammo, too.”
Ron shook his head. “Dozen? Yeah, a dozen that we can see.”
“Owens is right,” Henry agreed. “We can’t confirm their numbers outright. If I had to guess, it would probably be at least fifty. Manageable, but I’d prefer that to be our last resort.”
“How might we fare with a disturbance?” Sera offered.
Kelmithus gripped his staff. “I might conjure an echo of noise distant hence. It shan’t last, but it can afford us enough time for our escape.”
Kelmithus’ plan seemed like it could work, but only if the Nobians didn’t know they were here. “No,” Henry disagreed. “They’ve seen our MRAPs outside. We’d get surrounded.”
“How about negotiation?” Dr. Anderson suggested, a hopeful note in his voice.
“Negotiation? With the Nobians?” Kelmithus questioned.
They all knew what the Nobians were like. It really did come off as a ridiculous idea, but what if Dr. Anderson was right? The archaeologist defended himself, “I know, I know. However, we have yet to confirm their hostility, and it would not serve us well to initiate hostilities with the Nobians.”
Taking in the silence as contemplation, he continued, “If talks break down, we hold our ground here. It’s not ideal, but we’ll control the engagement area and prevent them from flanking us.”
Henry reviewed the situation again. 12 hostiles, but they should expect the worse, so at least 50 hostiles plus failed negotiations. Holding the only way out, they were likely spread out between the hallway, the cave system, and possibly even the forest outside. Dr. Anderson’s plan was solid, but he had a few minor qualms. In particular, holding the line meant possibly exhausting themselves in a battle of attrition.
“Alright. We’ll open with negotiations. I’m skeptical, but it's worth a shot. Should that fail, we can’t engage in a drawn-out conflict. We’ll disrupt their positions and quickly move to the cave outside.”
“Smoke grenades and flashbangs,” Ryan muttered.
“Affirmative,” Henry said, nodding in agreement. “If we can’t see them, we’ll level the playing field so they can’t see us.”
“Captain,” Kelmithus quickly interjected, “Bid me aid your efforts. I’ve insight enough to create fog. I’ve learned from our encounter with the Sentinel Lindwyrm.”
“You can replicate that heavy fog?” Ron asked.
Kelmithus held up his palm, producing an opaque puff of steam to prove his point. “Indeed so, Lieutenant. Adequately do these envirosuits shield us, that I might harness more extreme temperatures for more effective casting.”
Henry was impressed with how quickly the archmage grasped such a concept. “Good. Yen, get that drone into the cave. We’ll hold for updates.”
Yen nodded, carrying out Henry’s order silently. The drone’s feed directly streamed to their HUDs, and after a few minutes, Isaac looked up. “Done.”
Henry analyzed the data. They had visual confirmation of a dozen Nobians inside the facility itself and a staggering forty outside, both in the cave and around the cave entrance. It was an assumption, but there probably weren’t many cloaked soldiers past the hallway. He sighed; the worst-case scenario would have them facing a hundred men in total.
It was a challenge, but the drone’s intel granted them a critical tactical advantage. He analyzed his minimap, selecting and sharing a route with minimal enemy contact. “After clearing the facility’s entrance, we’ll proceed along the designated path. Upon exit, I’ll deploy a flare to signal our movement to the MRAPs for extraction. We will then rendezvous with Zulu-9 and coordinate with air support before re-engaging to secure the site.”
His team nodded, fully on board with the plan. He took a deep breath to steel himself before checking his watch – 16:24. “Alright, time to show ourselves.”
Letting his M7 sling over his chest, Henry prepared two flash grenades – one in each hand – before stepping out. With his team in tow, he moved to the center of the hallway, catching the attention of one of the Nobian patrols.
“Attention, Nobian forces! We request parley. I am Captain Donnager of Alpha Team, Tier 6 Adventurer. We are on an official quest sanctioned by the Adventurer’s Guild. We have no intention of hostilities and seek to discuss our presence and objectives to ensure mutual understanding.”
As Henry’s words echoed through the hallway, the Nobian soldiers snapped into action. He heard the sounds of bowstring being drawn taut and the rasp of metal as swords cleared their scabbards. His hands tightened around the flash grenades.
He kept his gaze steady, projecting a sense of calm; of confidence – enough to convince the Nobians that even outnumbered, he and his team were still no match for them. More soldiers joined the patrol, until all twelve of the previously identified Nobians were upon them. They kept their distance, but Henry could feel the tension boiling.
Just as the standoff seemed to reach a critical point, the air in front of them seemed to fold outward from itself, like watching the effects of gravitational lensing on light. A figure coalesced from the distortion – so this is what invisibility magic looked like.
The man was broad-shouldered and tall, seeing eye-to-eye with him, even despite the extra inches in height the envirosuit gave. As the last wisps of the cloaking magic faded away, Henry found himself staring into a pair of piercing gray eyes that seemed to bore into his very soul.
The newcomer had an angular face and was clad in black armor with a different sheen than the black armor of his comrades. Silver trimmings and an insignia emblazoned on his chestplate – a dagger through a swirl of mist – differentiated his status. A cloak of the same dark hue billowed behind him as he walked forward and drew his sword.
Keeping his sword to the side, he stopped a respectable ten meters away from Henry. “I am Carvus Alnect Virelius, Umber Vicearch of the Order of the Shadow.” He then pointed his sword at Henry, declaring, “Of desecrating sovereign Nobian territory, you stand accused.”
As Carvus spoke, more soldiers materialized alongside him, shimmering into existence as they dropped their cloaking spells. Henry had expected this to happen, but seeing it play out still sent a chill down his spine. How many more were still lying in wait?
The Vicearch kept his weapon on Henry, eyes narrowing. “Commander unto commander, I offer a choice: cede your Holding Bags, that secure passage may be granted unto you. Refuse, and you shall be declared as spies and enemies of the Nobian Empire, your lives forfeit to swift execution.”

2024.05.15 17:23 Dependent-Kiwi70 AITA for being disinterested in my best friend (long)

Hi, I, 21F, have a best friend (21F) that we’ll call Ella. Ella and I have known each other since kindergarten. We were best friends at times in elementary school and solidified our friendship in middle school. When high school came around, we went to different high schools but still lived 5 minutes away from each other.
Freshman year (2016) I barely saw Ella. We both were getting used to our new schools and everything, so we never really hung out but we would constantly text. Sophomore year I decided I wanted to hang out more. After school, I’d always ask her to hang out, we’d study together or just talk for a few hours before I went back home. She rarely came to my house, I think maybe once she came over to study. In our junior year, we both ended up with boyfriends. I still wanted to hang out with her every now and then but every time I asked to do something, she’d have an excuse. This continued for the whole year (even after I had called her out for this by sending her screenshots of every time she bailed on plans). By senior year, I was over it. I realized she wanted to spend all of her time with her boyfriend and I didn’t feel like it was fair that I constantly had to be the one to reach out. We barely spoke that year.
That is, until we found out we were going to the same college the next year. I had been actively searching for roommates, so when Ella asked to room together it felt like a no brainer. We were already comfortable with each other, knew how the other behaved/their habits. So despite the year long break, I figured it’d be better than rooming with a rando.
Freshman year of college, we shared a dorm room. We were at the end of the hall, secluded from everyone else. At this point, I knew I had fucked up. The first night there, I somehow got her to come meet people in our hall. After that night, she didn’t go outside past 5 for the rest of the year. “Mosquito bites” was her answer when I asked why. I made friends without her. I’d go out to parties, go have dinner, etc. At the beginning, she wouldn’t say much about it. But a few months in she kept complaining about how lonely she was. I would invite Ella out, even my friends would invite her out, and she’d say no every time — I don’t remember her leaving the dorm room once after that first night to hang out with people (including myself). I had 0 sympathy for her because of this.
Sophomore year of college, we decided to move into an apartment together with the other 2 friends I had made. I felt bad leaving her behind for some reason. I knew she had no friends and I didn’t know who else she’d end up with if not me. So yes, we lived together again. This year, she definitely went out a bit more but only after my friend would beg her to. I could still count the number of times she came out on my 2 hands. She ended up causing a lot of drama this year. She’s nosy, she can come off as passive and egotistical, and she can be extremely judgmental. Things I hadn’t realized she was until my other roommates started pointing it out. These things had become normal to me. That’s just who I thought Ella was. And it is. But that’s not ok.
Junior year, I ended up living with 3 random people. (There’s a lot that happened that sophomore year I didn’t mention. That’s for another story). And Ella lived with 3 random people. I only ever heard from her when she wanted to complain about her roommates. I saw her 1 time that year because she wanted to complain about her roommates even more. She complained so much about them even her boyfriend didn’t want to speak on the phone with her (he actually told her this. Kinda wild).
This brings us to now. Senior year. We live together again. We both had terrible roommate experiences and just needed comfortability and to be in a living situation where we knew the other’s boundaries. It wasn’t ideal for me, but it was better than another random assignment situation. We both turned 21 before the fall semester started. So I thought we’d be able to go to bars together. Not even the crazy ones, I just wanted to go sit at like an Applebees and talk for a while. No. Every time I ask her to hang out it’s “I’m good but thanks” or “I don’t feel like having a hangover tomorrow” or “I don’t want to spend money”. Not to say these aren’t valid reasons, but to not ONCE not EVER say yes just doesn’t seem right? I’m also an introvert. I get it. But you should also be open to doing things your friends want to do. She doesn’t come to football games, basketball games, kickbacks, nothing. She won’t go on night drives, out to dinner with just me, or even to the library to study. If her boyfriend isn’t the one asking, the answer is no.
So I’m done. I stopped asking her to do things. I stopped texting her first again. If I’m in our living room and she talks to me, the answers are short, monotone, and disinterested. I don’t care about her or her life because she doesn’t act interested in mine. I feel bad sometimes because I think she doesn’t understand why I got so cold this year. But it’s not my job to teach you how to be a friend. I’ve brought this up and called her out before, I did my due diligence… about 5 years ago. For some reason, I kept thinking things would change as we got older. And they did. I just didn’t think it’d be like that. Sometimes I feel bad though. Because I know not everyone wants to be doing stuff. I just feel like every know and then, as a friend, best friend supposedly, you should be willing to reach out first. To make plans. To go out and do something for once instead of trying to convince me to sit on the couch for the 7th night this week and drink $10 wine. Am I in the wrong here?
