2024.05.16 02:22 bebeksquadron Stupidity/Lack of Awareness is a form of Evil/Violence

I have an original thought that stupidity is violence. Just like Fascism inevitably bring about violent result towards minorities, stupidity inevitably bring about violent result towards everything that it touches, although at randomized rate.
Unfortunately, in this world, as of today, stupidity is not categorized as a moral harm, which I obviously strongly disagree. For example, I remember I read in the news before, there was a case of European governing body decided not to punish anti-vaxx misinformation spreader, because the person is deemed ignorant and does not hold any scientific license. So in this specific case, we can observe that ignorance (a form of stupidity) is being used as excuse to lighten punishment even though the harm (violence) caused due to the misinformation that this person spread is probably massive.
I want to know if there are any philosophers covering this idea before, pro or against.

2024.05.16 02:22 Running_on_Vibes Mat Teacher Training

Hi folks,
I'm looking at doing a mat teacher training to start teaching as a side hustle (mat primarily because I'm obsessed with mat and that's how I have fallen in love with pilates, but also because it's more financially accessible to low-income communities that I would like to serve).
Anyway, I'm in NYC and I've narrowed it down to in-person BASI mat program or in-person Power Pilates Core Mat I and II. I'm wondering: Does anyone have a success story with actually starting a successful side hustle after going through either of these mat programs? I'm leaning toward Power Pilates because it seems to actually hire (some of?) its Core Mat II graduates and also has a page on its website where it shows available jobs; so the network seems promising. If anyone is willing to share, I would love to hear details and whether either of these programs have actually been reliable routes for anyone to get hired part-time. Thanks ever so much!

2024.05.16 02:22 apikoros18 Any recent Math Test takers?

Is Math Maria still applicable? Is CavemanChang better? I took the practice in the CBEST Math for Beginners book. I bombed as bad as the movie Showgirls. I need it for my credential program but I haven't done math in this form since 1993. I'm taking it a week from today. I need to pass by 8/24, so based on when the test is offered in person, I took this date so I could take it again if I fail (The 45 day waiting period) before 8/24. I thought I got it but, well, I did not.
I am now so anxious over this.

2024.05.16 02:20 F34R_La_Flop Considering Bankruptcy at 22

I’m pretty embarrassed about this but here we are. For a little context, I moved out at 17 from an abusive household and made terrible financial decisions to get as far away as possible. Now, 5 years later, here’s all the debt I have: $13,000 for a car that got repossessed and auctioned for lower than its value $5,000 in personal loans $2,000 for breaking a lease $500 in unpaid utilities $250 in credit cards And i’m currently an unemployed college student living with my partner. I have about $10,000 in student loans so far. I’m being sued for a personal loan, and with no job there’s no way i can pay it. My car is worth like $500, but i own it so that’s nice. I can’t get a job because we live in low income housing, and my partners job makes the max threshold to live here. My partner isn’t responsible for my debts, and i feel stuck, and it sucks, but i think this is my only option.

2024.05.16 02:19 Throwaway65865 Weird feelings

Alone I feel I don't want to continue transitioning. I feel more feminine and my facial hair and other masculine traits bother me. I look at the women around me who are my age and kind of want to look like them. I don't really feel this with men. The changes from T didn't used to bother me, it was gradually last year that my feelings changed. Nothing happened to trigger this, my feelings just changed. I shave and the beard shadow makes me sad. The male hairline really bothers me. Referring to myself as a man doesn't feel right. I have weird conflicting feelings about my flat chest. I've kept these feelings very close to my chest because I need to know 100% what I want before I tell anyone. I've been out as binary ftm for 6 years, since I was 14. On T for nearly 4 years, since age 16. And had top surgery 2 years ago at 18. So realising my feelings have changed and I might want to detransition is a big deal at this point.
Outside and in the company of other people though, my feelings are flipped and its very confusing. Because I've been off testosterone for nearly 2 months now and these contradictory feelings make me wonder if I want to restart it or stay off, even though I was so sure I wanted to stop? It's a time sensitive situation because at some point I'm going to need to say something to my doctor when my blood test is due because if I get it it will show my low T level. (If I tell my doctor I want to stop T than I will be removed from her care and if I change my mind I'll just be put on the waiting list for hormones which is over 7 years long, so it's a complicated situation.) I can't just stop and start T whenever I want because of the way the medical system works in my country. Informed consent is not an option here. In the gym yesterday, I really felt this weird conflicting feeling of wanting (or needing) to be seen as a man because I felt very intimidated. Right now I'm growing my hair out and I dyed it purple, and was clean shaven so in the gym I felt very intimidated compared to how I usually do because I stood out and really didn't visually fit in with all the guys there and I felt some stares on me. I'm worried my feelings are tied up in wanting to feel safer in society as a man compared to a woman, or at least as a gender conforming person. When I had my hair short and it's natural colour, and had my facial hair grown out I didn't feel intimidated at all because I looked like everyone else there.
Or maybe it's part wanting to be seen as attractive because I make a decent looking guy, but I've always had some masculine features which suited a guy more than a girl, so right now when I try to make myself look like a woman, it's hard to feel attractive because I kind of just look like a dude in drag.
Part of me also knows that I command more respect as a gender conforming, cis and straight passing man than I would any other way so walking away from that kind of privilege is kind of terrifying.
Sometimes I feel it fits though, but longterm I don't know if it will.
I've just been holding my unopened bottle of testogel trying to make up my mind and I just don't know.

2024.05.16 02:19 Affectionate-Tale743 I was sexually assaulted in my building on Saturday evening all caught on cctv the 11/5 and my apartment building did not remove him despite it being reported to the police and having full awareness of the situation until 14/5

Hi, I was sexually assaulted in my apartment building by a complete stranger who is a resident and it was all caught on CCTV. I had reported it to the police on early morning that same night 12/5, reported it to security and saw the CCTV myself and security wrote a statement with timestamps. Also I emailed the manager that same night 12/5 at 00:45.
I did not stay in my building on that night and I stayed at my friends house because I felt very scared and shaken up and unsafe. I returned to the property that evening as the police had said that they were going to come to my building to speak to me however they didn’t and we had a phone call instead where they made me aware that they were sent the cctv and a written statement by my security guard. On Monday morning 13/5 around 11:30. I had anticipated that management would have said something to me. However the manager had not yet replied to my email so I went downstairs to speak to them. Unfortunately I did not record the conversation however the information disclosed during the conversation would not be information that I would know had we not had that conversation and I also followed up with an email to confirm that we had a meeting and that he was still in the building, that morning 15:28. During the meeting the managers had made me aware that they had not removed him and that he was still in the building living in the building with no consequences. As a previous residential advisor in my old university for 2 years I know how safeguarding works. This was very alarming for me and I was very scared to still be there. During this meeting the main manager disclosed that the man is living in an apartment rented by the company. He works for who rent 7 to 8 apartments within my building. It was also suggested that because he’s from another country this might just be his customs but what he did was absolutely sexual assault and I don’t think sexual assault is a custom of any country. Also the other manager suggested that one of the options of the situation would be that I leave, not him but myself. They also made several comments asking me if he was drunk or high however the things he was saying during the interaction are not the things that you would say if you are not sober he was competent enough to do what he did and also apologise and also we had a conversation in both English and Spanish as I speak both and I could tell he spoke Spanish so I spoke to him in Spanish and he apologised in Spanish so that’s not a drunk or high man. Also following this meeting I had asked for a list of things that she said that they were going to email me following this meeting and that they were getting in a meeting with the senior management on that same day. I did not stay in the building that night either as I felt very unsafe and completely not safeguarded by my building who claim to have a 24/7 security. Also despite knowing a crime had occurred within their building they did not send any mass email alerting the residence of the building that there is a criminal in the building. And in the meeting, they also did say that this is the first time something like this has happened in this building.
They still hadn’t emailed me by Tuesday. On Tuesday, they sent me an email at 9:30. In this email they said they were having another keyword* (and in the meeting, they also did say that this is the first time something like this has happened in this building) another meeting with the senior managers and they were going to tell me the result of this meeting by 11:30 on the same day. At 10:18 they emailed me to tell me the resident would be removed that same day however before this email they called me to which I said just email me as I think it’s important to have a paper trail of this whole situation. Also, some of the information I requested was sensitive information so I will have to go through the GDPR person to get this information which is fine. I will do this. At 14:37 they emailed me to make me aware that the occupier of the apartment has now vacated the premises. In the email they also gave me a link to their complaints procedure as they can anticipate that I am going to sue the fuck out of them for their negligence. Also, whilst all of this was going on, I am a masters student and I was meant to have an exam on Monday however due to the whole situation I was very shaken up and I meant to have an exam on Thursday and I mentally cannot bring myself to do that, so theyre also affecting my education as I will have to do my exams in August whilst also doing my thesis at the same time, which will be very stressful. I have also spoken to my GP who has given me a not fit for Work note and everybody at my university to do with well-being and security and support who I could have possibly spoken to. I have also spoken to the mental health support at my life insurance. And I am waiting for counselling victim support from the police. I am still going through the contract however the contract does state that tenants need to follow the house rules and if you don’t follow the house rules the landlord can kick you out immediately.
Can you please give me advice on if I have a case or if I don’t have a case as I can’t believe how they’ve handled well not handled this situation at all despite knowing that somebody was sexually assaulted in their building and also the man who sexually assaulted me knew what floor I lived on And they didn’t even try and move me to a different apartment just temporarily whilst they sorted him leaving. I have lived here since October and my tenancy will be over in October. The criminal investigation is still ongoing and I haven’t gone to the police to make my official statement yet as it has not been assigned to an officer, however that is separate from this.
Please help me I am genuinely so angry. I cannot believe that this is the situation that I’ve been in and that this is how this has been handled.

2024.05.16 02:18 Cjathrowawayacc What Should I (25 F)do when my boyfriend(27 M) gets offered a job across the country that almost doubles his current salary?

I ‘25/F’ have been dating my boyfriend ‘27/M’ for a little over 3 years. We currently live together and I pay most of the expenses since I make more than him currently. (I make around 78,000 a yr while he makes a 15 an hour which would end up being a little over $26,000 a year). He has been working at a coffee shop which he enjoys most of the time since he lost his job 6 months ago. We split the rent 50/50 but I cover all other expenses groceries, trips, etc. he just got offered a job in a career that is he got his masters degree in. The problem is the job is across the country and they offered him a little less than what he was hoping for. This job offer $23 an hour with paid overtime and benefits. Currently at the coffee shop he makes $1100 (including tips and taxes taken out) every pay period and no benefits or pto. I work in a career field where I could most likely easily find a job wherever I go and am kind of excited to move as this place seems like a great city to live in. Not to mention a we would get a financial relief. We have talked about me staying where I am for the time being until he gets more settled in to the new place and is sure he likes the job and his employers like him before I move too.
I thought he would be really excited about the job offer but now he is thinking about not taking it. He is worried he won’t like the job and would be sad to move out of our luxury apartment to live on his own for a little bit. He also brought up being sad to leave the community he has at the coffee shop and really enjoys his flexible schedule here. He is also worried about the pay being to low from his recent job offer. He has been really depressed lately because he has been denied from several places he has applied to over the past 6 months. So I am really worried he will regret not taking this job if he doesn’t get another job offer soon. And was hopeful a new job would bring him better spirits and overall make him happier.
I have advised him to take the job offer and to continue to look for jobs and take interviews and if he finds something better to just decline the offer close to his start date or leave the job if he has already started. I think it’s a great opportunity to at least get his foot in the door and gain experience in the industry he got 2 degrees in. If he really doesn’t like it he can move back in with me and most likely get his job back at the coffee shop as they really like him there. However he is still saying he is really on the fence about it and isn’t sure if he will accept the offer as he isn’t sure he wants to go back to a desk job.
Is it ok for me to bring up our salary differences now? I feel like I spend a lot of my money on him and I am usually happy to do so as it ensures I get to live the lifestyle I want with the person I love! However with the thought of him making more I did get really excited thinking we would split things a little more evenly and I’d have some money to spend on myself to maybe update my wardrobe, finish paying off my car, and pay for a pottery class etc. I used to only spend about $80-$100 on groceries before I met him but now I pay around $350-$400 a week in groceries alone as he really eats a lot and only like organic, free range, high quality ingredients. I really wonder if I wasn’t paying so much if he would be more willing to take the job. I also don’t want to push him to take a job if he really doesn’t want it. I don’t think you should solely take a job just because you would make more money but I do think whether he takes or declines the job it will affect our relationship. Am I being to materialistic in waiting him to take this job?

2024.05.16 02:18 Every_Hunt_160 As S tier farming projects near TGE (Layer Zero, ZKSYNC , Linea) - sharing the top 5 projects I am farming !

Hello EthTrader farmers,
I’m making this post as unfortunately the airdrop column been very barren of late, it’s very sad for me to see this state on EthTrader after a flurry of farming activity earlier this year.
So today I have to push out an airdrop guide, and as the title says - this is an informal one but hope you guys still enjoy this one.
  1. SCROLL
This is personally my number 1 layer 2 to farm (since the rest in the title is near TGE), and has been one of my top 5 for a long time. And all rumours I’ve seen on crypto twitter says there’s still a few months to farm.
So keep pushing those transactions! Interact with different DEXes (Izumi, Ambient, Syncswap, Sushi my top choices) and bridges (Jumper, Owlto, merkly hyperlane) - every single week at least once a week - and I assure you, you won’t regret it.
Oh, and don’t forget to provide liquidity on Stakestone for their liquidity campaign! (not sure if I have already created a guide for that but you can search that up)
  1. Hyperlane
This one immediately came to mind as well.
Why? You can farm across 3 chains (EVM, Cosmos Wallet and Solana wallet) - 3 in one farming!
This is an interoperability play and is the third biggest behind Wormhole and LayerZero, and has less eyes on it - hopefully if you get involved early, you will EAT GOOD.
I have 2 earlier guides on EthTrader for Hyperlane, bullish on this!
  1. Liquidswap (Pontem)
Before LayerZero announced their snapshot, I had created a Liquidswap/Pontem 5 in 1 farming post.
Yes, farming 5 airdrops at once on Liquidswap!
Now it is ‘only’ 4 in 1. Lol!
My guide is up, 5 in 1, 4 in 1 it is ludicrously efficient airdrop farming. I wouldn’t fade on this if you are a farmer !
  1. Jumper
This is the number 1 bridge I am currently farming.
If you have transactions earlier, keep pushing those buttons!
The drawback is that TGE may be 30th June so there might not be too much time on this if your history of using Jumper is very limited.
  1. Berachain/Monad
This one is a toss up, because I feel there is not enough information available but they have the biggest funding.
Berachain has huge 100m funding, slated for Q3 launch and is in TestNet - my advice is push once a week transactions for their Testnet.
Monad has 250m funding, absolutely huge. There’s still no details on how to farm this but this could absolutely be the next big thing. I’ve seen rumours saying Wormhole staking might qualify you - but then the question is, how much $W should you stake to qualify in the first place ??
We can expect more criteria on farming Monad in the coming weeks, I might make a guide if I have information.
So that’s it my folks! I think unfortunately all the downvotes and repost spam has scared everyone else off making airdrop posts, but I hope everyone enjoys this post and some are encouraged to produce more OC content.
Good luck to everyone farming, may the wife changing gains be in our favour !!

2024.05.16 02:17 MLGZedEradicator Gao Defeating Pre-I explanation

TL DR

So the TL: DR is Gaolang made himself effectively faster than he otherwise would be in a given situation, by subtly switching between orthodox and southpaw stances to rapidly close the distance on Carlos quicker than Carlos predicted (common tactics of switch hitters, which also double as a feints, allowing him to tag Carlos faster than Carlos had predicted ( while also slowing down the speed of Carlos's mental reaction) when used in tandem with successfully reading Carlos's patterns, a well-established mechanism that has allowed inferior foresight users to beat superior ones on multiple occasions in the manga, before and after this fight. Ofc, the immense raw speed of Gaolang's Flash jab means that combined with this advantage, he can strike before Carlos can physically move out of the way in one fell swoop.

Relevant Psychology

Basically, there's two key psychological factors at play here, attentional blink and the psychological refractory period,
Attentional blink is a a split-second form of attentional blindness to the second of two distinct stimuli (e.g., a feint or fake attack, followed by the attacker's real strike) that happen with a few to several tenths of a second apart in time from each other. This can result in your brain not properly seeing the real- attack following a feint. This is something I added after the latest chapter further clarifying how Gaolang beats Pre-I.
https://www.verywellmind.com/what-is-attentional-blink-2795017
Then, as already previously mentioned, the psychological refractory period refers to when the stimuli are similiarly separated in a short interval time (especially when separated in time by 60 ms-100 ms), but even though the person sees both stimuli, the programming of the motor response to the second stimulus is delayed by the now misleading response programming attempt to the first stimulus ( the feint) needing to be processed and then canceled first before moving on to the second stimulus.
Additionally, the surprise factor of an unexpected stimulius also will in general always further slow your mental processing and the initiation of your response down too.
So Gaolang is fast enough with his Flash Jabs in general to have greater POTENTIAL of exploiting these small gaps in a person's awareness and reaction time relative to most of the rest of the cast.
But against exceptionally fast characters such as Carlos, it's necessary for him to also get a read on Carlos's timing and movement patterns to figure out where Carlos's head and body will be in the next split-second. And by combining that with using feints and baits ( stance switches, throwaway punches, hand feints etc) he is able to slow down Carlos's mind enough that, when combined with his raw speed, Gaolang can take advantage of these openings.
And this is also not even getting into the physical aspects of a feint which can also make you prematurely move in the wrong direction and make you off-balanced , with your momentum from moving away from the fake or throwaway attack and having to reset your balance making it harder for you to physically accelerate in time away from the following 'real' attack.
Now, the only other interesting curveball the latest chapter has thrown us is the implication that Gaolang and Jurota both "have" Pre-Initiative, which adds yet another variable here, but I'll address this in another, separate revision post on how Foresight works in the manga, and, if Gao truly has Pre-I, when he would have unlocked it, as it's not as relevant to the core concepts here, though I give a little more details on that here in the Supporting Details Section for those who read that.

Further Supporting Details Here For Those in Doubt

https://www.reddit.com/Kengan_Ashura/comments/1c7tjfp/the_true_reason_gaolang_was_able_to_hit_carlos/#:~:text=It%20began%20with%20Carlos%20first,and%20with%20Carlos%20taking%20a
This is all in alignment with the general principles of how Pre-I and Discount Pre-I has been countered elsewhere in the manga by those with technically inferior foresight. The analogy that takes this concept to the extreme is Kaneda's Determinate Prediction. Omega Kaneda, who also lacks the ability to read the inception of intent and has weaker foresight than Hatsumi, didn't literally move quicker than Hatsumi or quicker than Hatsumi's prediction at any point when he tagged Hatsumi, he simply baited Hatsumi and took him off-guard by simply reading Hatsumi, which then gives the illusion of him acting quicker and sucessfully landing his hits, despite his lower physicals. An off-guard Hatsumi doesn't have the reaction speed to react to a low mass, fast moving object like jab and then respond by moving his heavier head or entire body away, even if it's from Kaneda.
Ohma used a similiar principle to defeat Cosmo's Foresight in KAT. Having read Cosmo's ability to read Ohma, Ohma baited Cosmo with a right hand, but it turned out to be a feint, surprising him, and then faster than Cosmo could predict and react, grabbed Cosmo's own left arm as they fell, and used it to choke Cosmo out for the W.
And lastly, we have seen Ohma, Lihito, Kanoh, and Lolong take advantage of Fist Eye Koga and/or Fist Eye+ Training Wheels Pre-I Koga with similiar feints or with generally striking from outside of both his visual (retinal) and general attentional (brain's processing of retinal images or information from the other senses ) awareness, although in some of these cases the attentional blink is moreso a short bout of full-blown inattentional blindness..
Lastly, Gao was initially unsure about how Lolong was achieving almost the same thing against Ohma that he did to Carlos, because Lolong, at first, was throwing comparatively slow jabs or slow elbows ( his striking speed was only on par with the Flash with the shoulder rotations shown much later in the fight). Then it's revealed that Lolong was doing it was specifically because of Pre-I . If Lolong had used his Flash-like Jab in these instances, he would have probably been able to hit Ohma with just one strike, before Ohma moved at all, just like Gao had done to Carlos above using ordinary foresight.
In other words, Lolong's slower striking speed means he has to read Ohma's inception of intent to dodge Lolong's first strike, and Lolong notices this before he even throws his own first strike, allowing him to quickly throw a follow- up blow in advance to where he knows Ohma will move to. Ohma's Pre-I isn't as deep, so he can't read the ulterior inception of intent of Lolong's planned follow up strike in advance, he only sees the intent for the first strike Lolong throws as he throws it, and otherwise, while he is dodging Lolong's first strike, the gap in his focus means he doesn't see the inception of intent of second strike coming until it's too late, he missed that window the strike is already mid-flight.

While those figures have assuredly changed, the float has definitely gone down and, even if shorts covered a portion of the short interest, that percentage is going to remain high. Try as they might to buy/sell bulk to move the needle and scare weak hands, the fact is they aren’t dropping this enough to gather enough shares to cover. IT’S…GOING…TO…MOON!!! Not if, but when. Don’t be caught sitting on the sidelines with this one. Buy and hold. (I’m not a financial advisor. Do your own due diligence before buying any stock and only invest what you can afford to lose. Me personally, I like the stock.)

2024.05.16 02:15 TejanoInRussia Advice regarding Auto Body operating in residential area and making neighborhood sick.

Hello everyone. I couldn’t crosspost my other post so I decided to follow someone’s advice and copy and paste it here.
An update: i’ve managed to move out my immediate family but would still like to seek a course of action for the sake of those who are still there and as i feel it is the right thing to do.
Here is my previous post .. please let me know where I should proceed from here and what i can do, thanks in advance:
Our neighbor is poisoning us and giving us cancer literally. Please help. Please upvote this.
Hello everyone. I apologize if you consider the title an exaggeration but I really need this post to gain traction. I’ve wanted to post about this and seek help for a long time but I was worried that nobody here could help us.
We first moved into our current home in 2015 and understood that there was an automotive shop next door. It was loud occasionally but besides that we didn’t have any problems. Around 2017 they began painting cars and a few times a week for a few hours would smell like spray paint both outside and inside our house occasionally. We moved temporarily but no longer have the means to do this at the moment.
We’ve tried speaking to owner. We called the city on him two years ago and they told us that everything met regulations when they sent out someone to do an inspection and refuse to so anything further. Several of our neighbors have also tried to call the city. There’s children next door and I tried to convey that tho who i spoke to over the phone and i just received apathy in return.
I’ve gotten bronchitis several times living here and my mother was diagnosed with a tumor a little over a year ago. I can’t say for sure whether these are related but I suspect they might be. My grandfather died of parkinsons from working with certain chemicals and everyday i am just filled with more and more paranoia and worry.
Nearly everyday we are forced to leave the house for several hours or be in this environment. I am very concerned for the health of my family and it makes so angry me that the city allows this. I know it not the correct course of action but I even thought of threatening the owner to get it to stop. It makes me angry to no end. I don’t want me or my mother or our neighbors even to get some neurodegenerative disease or cancer due to this. I’ve done my own personal research on these chemicals and what harm they can do and it’s not right at all.
We live in Magnolia Park and theres no HOA that we can contact or anything nearby. I am convinced that if our neighborhood consisted of a different racial demographic that they would not allow this to occur. We know the owner to some extent and he is more than well off and owns multiple shops as well as a ranch. He is not strapped for cash and doesn’t need to continue doing this but insists on it knowing it is harming us and others including children.
I really didn’t want to post this and was hoping to resolve the issue without going public but at this point it’s ridiculous that the owner refuses to acknowledge that he is harming the community. For reference it is Flores auto shop on 74th street and Avenue I.
Is there anything that we can do legally? Is there any way to put an end to this? Can we form a petition and get the city to so do something?
Please upvote this if you see it even if you don’t have any suggestions as all of us including our neighbors are quite desperate to end this. We don’t want to shut down the place we just don’t want our loved ones to get sick. Thank you.

How Encrypted Video Hosting Protects Your Privacy and Data

https://preview.redd.it/ogi25977lo0d1.jpg?width=732&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13faf14e15928cb2dc7775414341662062430784
In the age of digital media, video content plays a pivotal role in communication, education, and entertainment. However, the increasing reliance on digital platforms for sharing and storing videos has also heightened the risks associated with data breaches and unauthorized access. Encrypted video hosting is crucial in mitigating these risks, and ensuring privacy and data security. This article will guide you through the process of understanding and implementing encrypted video hosting.

Understanding Encrypted Video Hosting

Encrypted video hosting refers to the process of encrypting video content before it is uploaded to a hosting platform. This encryption secures the videos from unauthorized access, ensuring that only individuals with the decryption key can view the content. This method is essential for protecting sensitive information that may be contained in the videos.

Why Encryption Is Necessary for Video Hosting

The necessity for encrypting video content arises from multiple concerns:
  • Privacy Protection: Videos often contain sensitive information, which can include personal data, confidential business meetings, or secure government footage. Encrypting these videos protects the privacy of the individuals and entities involved.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Various industries are governed by strict data protection regulations (such as GDPR, HIPAA, etc.) that mandate the protection of personal and sensitive information. Encrypted video hosting helps in complying with these regulations.
  • Intellectual Property Rights: For creators and businesses, videos are valuable assets. Encryption prevents unauthorized use and distribution, thus protecting intellectual property rights.
  • Prevention of Data Breaches: Encrypted videos add a layer of security, reducing the risk of data breaches and cyber threats.

Choosing the Right Encryption Standards

Before implementing encrypted video hosting, it’s crucial to choose the right encryption standards. The two main types of encryption are:
  • Symmetric Encryption: This type uses a single key for both encrypting and decrypting data. It is faster but requires secure key management practices.
  • Asymmetric Encryption: It uses a pair of keys, one public and one private. Asymmetric encryption is more secure for large-scale implementations because the private key does not need to be shared.
For most video hosting scenarios, a combination of both types is used. Asymmetric encryption secures the initial handshake and key exchange, while symmetric encryption handles the bulk data transfer of video files due to its efficiency.

Implementing Encrypted Video Hosting

The process of implementing encrypted video hosting involves several steps to ensure that all aspects of the video lifecycle are secured. Here’s a sequential guide:
  • Video File Encryption: Before uploading, video files should be encrypted using high-standard encryption protocols. Software tools that support AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) 256-bit encryption are typically recommended for their balance of speed and security.
  • Secure Transfer: Ensure that the encrypted videos are transferred over secure channels. Using HTTPS or other secure protocols protects the data during transit.
  • Storage Security: The storage servers where encrypted videos are hosted must be secured against unauthorized access. This involves configuring server settings to meet high-security standards and regularly updating them to guard against vulnerabilities.
  • Access Control: Implement strict access controls to ensure that only authorized users can decrypt and view the encrypted videos. This often involves setting up user authentication protocols like two-factor authentication (2FA).
  • Key Management: Proper key management is essential in encrypted video hosting. Encryption keys should be stored separately from the data they encrypt and managed using trusted key management services or dedicated hardware security modules (HSMs).
  • Regular Audits and Updates: Security is not a one-time setup but an ongoing process. Regular security audits, compliance checks, and updating encryption protocols are necessary to maintain a secure video hosting environment.

Benefits of Encrypted Video Hosting

Implementing encrypted video hosting brings several benefits:
  • Enhanced Security: Encrypted video hosting significantly augments data security, drastically reducing the chances of private or sensitive information being exposed due to hacking or leaks.
  • Compliance: It helps organizations comply with international data protection laws, avoiding legal penalties and boosting customer trust.
  • Control Over Content: Encryption gives content owners control over their videos, restricting access and preventing unauthorized copying or distribution.
  • Market Confidence: Businesses that prioritize security attract and retain more customers, as they are perceived as trustworthy and responsible with data.

Conclusion

Encrypted video hosting is an imperative strategy in the digital era, where data breaches are not only common but also immensely damaging. By encrypting video content, businesses, governments, and individuals can safeguard sensitive information, comply with strict regulations, and maintain control over their digital media assets. It’s a necessary investment towards securing privacy and enhancing data security in an increasingly interconnected world.
By following the detailed steps outlined for choosing encryption standards and implementing encrypted video hosting, any organization or individual can achieve a secure video hosting environment. The importance of continuous maintenance through regular audits and updates cannot be overstated. Secure video hosting not only protects the videos themselves but also supports the broader objective of comprehensive cybersecurity. 2024.05.16 02:14 Samybaby420 Collecting Child Support Fraudulently

I'll try to make this as simple as possible.
FAMILY LAW - SELF REPRESENTING. HE HAS HELP FROM A FRIEND BUT THERE IS LIMITED KNOWLEDGE.
What steps need to be taken when a recipient of child support hasn't updated their agreement after 3 years of one of the two kids moving out? How can a payor have their Family Responsible Office (FRO) arrears changed to reflect this? Would it automatically adjust retroactively from the time the child moved out, or are there specific steps involved with that aspect?
The one who moved out is 18. She moved out in 2021. The other child is 17 & still lives with mom.
This is fraudulent, right? There's 3 years of child support for the one child that moved away.
Mom has not only not informed the court of the change in living arrangements but also initiated FRO to collect payments after the father was unable to keep up with his share.
(This is because the daughter moved into HIS mother's house, or, her grandmother. He has been giving his mother money every month to help with his daughter)
The mother has attempted multiple times to get FRO to enforce legal action, all while maintaining a very hostile relationship with the father. The father's employer will not allow garnishment so he's been safe from that so far.
He is in the beginning process of taking her to court. Cleo Interactive Help stated he needs to fill out Form 15 Motion to Change, Form 15 Schedule A, Form 8.0.1 Automatic Order, and Form 6B Affidavit, and he knows he'll need to do an updated financial statement.. but is he missing anything?

Just curious. In the past I’ve spend bullshit money on frivolous things that ultimately don’t matter and I’m not bothered. Recently, just recently, I invested into several professional courses ranging from financial growth to personal growth, health and well being, probably totaling close to 5k and it’s strange. I’ve blown a thousand at a time on shit that I just wanted and it felt good but spending this money on myself and investing in myself it feels a bit strange like not in a bad I might be feeling this cus it’s something new to me I made this posts cus I was curious and wanted to know about others as well

2024.05.16 02:12 sheriffderek Massive Skill Gap: Are Coding Bootcamps and New Developers Missing the Mark? A recent chat with DonTheDeveloper.

A few weeks ago, someone posted a link to one of Don’s rants and I went through and commented on each of the points. I can't find that post, but I had copied it over here: https://www.reddit.com/perpetualeducation/comments/1c7k9re/donthedeveloper_on_a_rant_about_how_aspiring/
We had a chat about it. Here’s the video/podcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHmqZkC3LqU&lc
Don titled it: There's a MASSIVE Skill Gap Among New Developers
I'll attempt to write a bit about that - (even though we went over many other topics - and I'm having a hard time grouping them)
It’s easy to simplify this into “the market” or “the boot camp” or “the tech stack” or "what's fair" or "the resume" - but I think people are missing the various multidimensional aspects at play. Is it:
Is it all of those things - and more? (Yes). And it's "the student" too." We're all different (cue reading rainbow moment). But it's true. Some of us are slower. Some of us are faster but miss the details. Some of us have a background that alignes neatly with tech. Some of us already know what job we want and why - and other people just want to make a good bet on a stable career. No matter what zone you're in, we still have to face the music - and deal with (trigger alert) - the truth.
The market is real. Companies aren't aggressively hireing random barely capable developers right now (like they have in the past). They're scared and holding on to their money. They also kinda realized they were spending more money on middle management and probably developers too - and are going to need some time to figure out how to make profitable businesses (or how to keep getting more VC funding to burn through).
But if there's a huge gap between your skills/experience and what it takes to do the job you're applying for, none of the other factors matter.
Many people choose a coding boot camp based on superficial factors like the price, the timeline, the website design, and the sales pitch. They often don't consider other important aspects because they simply don't know better. This isn’t unlike any other product or service or school.
Some people pick out a boot camp and learn a bunch of awesome stuff and they go out there and start a new career and for some reason, they don’t come back to Reddit to tell us about it. There are some legit colleges and boot camps and other alternative learning paths out there - that are really great. It's just a fact.
If you read the bootcamp marketing, paid your tuition, went through the steps they lined out, and came out the other end unable to get that job they promised you, well - that’s awkward. Maybe for you, it’s that simple. If you feel like you got a raw deal, I’m sorry. There are some businesses that should be ashamed of themselves - but they won't be. All you can do is warn other people. That’s over now. We can only work with the present.
For people who really want to work in this industry - they'll keep moving forward: at the end of the day, this is the playing field. So, if you want to get off the bench, we’re going to have to design a path to that – and you might need to rethink some of your assumptions.
It could certainly be said that new developers are now expected to know about–and have experience with–a lot more things.
Are the expectations that someone brand new to development is going to be able to get a job unreasonable? Well, does it matter what someone’s opinion about that is? You either want the job - or you don’t. And you need to know how to do the job, or no one will hire you. Do you need to know everything on this huge list to get an entry level position https://roadmap.sh/javascript ? (no) (in fact - close that - and don’t ever look at it again)
When I started (at the age of ~30) (in ~2011), you needed to know HTML, CSS, (Probably some PhotoShop to get your assets), maybe a little PHP (and likely HTTP and more about URLs and request types and forms), FTP and DNS to get your site hosted, and maybe some JavaScript. You might have used jQuery to help out or Knockout.js. And you had to know how to hook up a database and MySQL and probably a CMS or some sort. And maybe your code was a mess or maybe it adhered to some common patterns. But that was life. Not everyone needed to know all those things. Some people would focus more on getting the mockup into the HTML and CSS. Other people might focus on the server and the PHP or Perl or Java. There were all sorts of jobs and some of them were done by people with a formal education in Computer Science studies and other people just figured it out as needed. There was a lot of work to be done. Lots of custom stuff to build and maintain. And it was just normal to learn more incrementally as the years went by. You could totally get a job knowing just HTML and CSS (and you still can BTW). There was still an infinite amount of things you could know. But it seemed to ramp up naturally because we were closer to the grain of The Web.
So, what do people learn now? (Generally) They rush through some HTML and CSS really quick (which actually teaches them more bad habits than good). They rarely learn about DNS or FTP because a tutorial showed them how to type a few random things into a terminal to have their site on a free service and they don’t buy a domain name because there’s a free subdomain. Apparently paying for anything is for suckers and companies that don't give you things for free are evil capitalistic pigs who should be shut down. New devs don’t know much about servers because their text editor is actually running an advanced web application behind the scenes that starts a virtual server and runs all sorts of other things they don’t understand outside of that context - like connecting to version control, opening a terminal pane, SSH, code completion and typeahead, autoimport completion, AI suggestions and other additional layers like typescript and many other linters to tell them where all their errors are. If they couldn't use VSCode - they might be dead in the water. It can feel like you’re just a bag of meat being yelled at by VSCode as you try and solve the errors and remove all the red lines. And we do all of these - to put the training wheels in place.
And I’m not saying that a LAMP stack doesn’t have it’s own level of black-box and mysteries with how Apache handles your HTTP requests and MySQL starts up it’s own server - but we have to be comfortable with some level of abstraction or we’d be writing all ones and zeros at the machine code level.
So, the new developer is manning this huge stack of tools unknowingly, but they do get a lot of benefits. We can spin up a pretty complex web application with a front-end to make requests, a server to talk to a database and other third-party systems and respond back to the client/front-end, and an auth layer to make sure people are properly signing in and only seeing what they need to see. There are abstractions for HTML and CSS and JS that put that template logic and controller logic into a neat little component file (which is great) and that component file is properly registered based on file name conventions and everything gets set up in this larger system of conventions that all happen behind the scenes in the framework architecture. So, as a new developer - you can really ride the framework and know hardly anything about how it works - as long as you know the language to speak to this layer of the abstraction (the API).
These aren't just arbitrary add-ons that people made to complicate things. They solve real-world problems. The new dev won't really understand what they are - but I'm not saying we should just get rid of them. They allow us to move faster and to build interfaces and business logic without having to write tons of behind the scenes repeated structural code by hand. And with those training wheels, we have more time on our hands. We can also add in the chance to further define our programs with safety measures and plan automated testing routines, and built-in documentation of our code base. We can keep adding layers and layers or pull in more and more third-party tools. It’s pretty amazing. But what people end up learning is how to maintain that configuration - and there’s only so much time - and so, they end up learning 10% of all the things you used to need/want to know. And some jobs have a path for that. But there's likely going to be a long-term cost for you.
Arguably - it doesn’t matter how much “code” you know - and making things is what matters. And that’s true. That’s what matters to the business that pays you. And to the school that wants you to feel good about your progress. But I think you should protect your learning journey. It’s for you. It’s going to be what you carry on throughout the years and it’s a seed.
Getting proficient with a popular tech stack - when the market is booming proved to be a great decision for boot camps and their students. And I'd bet that the majority of people mean well.
But when it's not booming, students are in it for the wrong reasons, schools have tightened up and moved online, the market has plenty of devs who already have 5+ years working with that framework/stack -- then all of the sudden - the surface-level fake-it-till-you-make-it path (as much as I respect that) doesn't work as well. You're going to have to put in some more energy.
When it's obvious that you can't build an HTML page with semantic markup, that's accessible, and has a universally pleasurable experience, and you can't write CSS without a UI framework or do anything custom, it's obvious. You should be aware of that gap. When you've never owned a domain name or setup a deployment pipeline, you should be aware of that gap. When your personal website looks like your boot camp gave it to you, you should be aware of how that looks. When you can't take a server-side scripting language like Python or Go or PHP and build out a little personal website framework - you should be aware of that gap. When you can't plan a project and don't have experience with diagrams and explaining things, you need to be aware of that gap. When you've never written about your process or created any case-studies to explain your projects, you should be aware of that gap. When you're only proof of work is the class assignments, you should be aware of that gap. When your github history goes dead after the last day of class, you should be aware that we'll see that. When you claim to no nothing about visual design and that's for someone else on the team - you should be aware of that gap. If you refuse to turn on your camera and just want to be left alone, you should be aware of that huge gap. If you can't build a little prototype app without React, they you probably don't JavaScript, and you should be aware of that gap. And there will ALWAYS be a gap. There's always more to learn. So - it's an important skill to know what to learn and why - and when. You can't learn everything. And if you're having a hard time finding work right now, then get clear on your goal. Stop applying for general "Software engineer" jobs you aren't ready for. Narrow your scope. Figure out a job that you think you can do confidently. Get clear on how big your gap is and what you need to learn to get centered and confident with your toolset. Ideally, it's fun. Try and ignore all the doom and gloom and focus on your own personal goal.
It's not just the market. Too many people are applying for jobs they aren't anywhere near qualified to do. And it probably doesn't feel good. But luckily - you can learn the things and get back on track.

The Future of DRM Software
https://preview.redd.it/57aj1s8nko0d1.jpg?width=892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52d93177fbb2c845b88a1d970681b672d0b6b567

The Evolution of DRM Software: A Decade of Change

Digital Rights Management DRM software has undergone significant transformations over the past decade, evolving to meet the changing needs of content creators and distributors while balancing consumer rights. This evolution has been driven by advancements in technology, shifts in consumer behavior, and the ever-expanding digital content landscape. Throughout this period, the core objective of DRM software— to prevent unauthorized use and distribution of digital content — has remained constant, but the mechanisms, implications, and public perceptions have all changed dramatically.
In the early 2010s, DRM software was heavily criticized for being overly restrictive and for infringing on user rights. However, recent developments have aimed at making DRM more flexible and user-friendly, focusing on enhancing user experience and enabling access across multiple devices. The purpose of this article is to examine the key changes in DRM software technology, the impact of these changes on various stakeholders, and what future directions DRM might take as we continue into the digital age.

Advancements in DRM software technologies

The last decade has seen DRM software technologies evolve from rigid, often device-specific systems to more sophisticated, adaptable solutions. Initially, DRM systems were primarily used in the music industry, as exemplified by the iTunes store's use of FairPlay. This system tied purchased music to Apple's ecosystem, limiting playback to Apple devices and iTunes software. However, the backlash from consumers led to a reevaluation of such restrictive measures.
One of the most significant advancements in DRM technology has been the development of server-based DRM, which allows for more dynamic content management. This technology enables content providers to adjust DRM software restrictions after the content has been distributed, based on factors such as the user's location or device. Server-based DRM has been particularly useful in the streaming industry, where content licenses vary dramatically across different regions.

Impact on the Music and Film Industries

DRM software technologies have had a profound impact on both the music and film industries. In the music sector, DRM has transitioned from a tool for locking down content to a means of enabling streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. These platforms use DRM to protect songs while offering users on-demand access to vast libraries of music. The model benefits both rights holders and consumers, providing legal access to music and ensuring creators and distributors are compensated.
The film industry has similarly benefitted from advancements in DRM. Modern DRM software helps studios and streaming services control and monetize their offerings globally. For instance, Netflix uses DRM software to ensure that its content library can be distributed globally while still adhering to regional licensing agreements. This technology has enabled Netflix to expand rapidly worldwide, offering location-specific content libraries governed by local copyright laws.

Consumer Perception and Legal Challenges

Consumer perception of DRM has always been somewhat contentious. Initially, many users viewed DRM as an impediment that limited their use of legally purchased content. Over the years, though, as DRM software systems have become more sophisticated and less intrusive, user resistance has largely diminished. This change is due, in part, to a cultural shift towards subscription models and streaming services, where the concept of owning content is replaced by that of accessing content.
Legally, DRM software has also faced challenges, particularly concerning digital ownership and copyright. Courts around the world have had to consider cases where the DRM practices of companies clashed with national laws on consumer rights and copyright. The rulings from these cases have influenced how DRM is implemented, steering it towards solutions that consider both creator rights and consumer freedoms.

The Role of International Standards and Cooperation

The effectiveness of DRM software is significantly enhanced by international cooperation and standardization. Organizations like the Digital Video Broadcasting Project (DVB) and the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) have been pivotal in setting global standards for DRM. These standards ensure compatibility and operability across devices and platforms, which is crucial for international content distribution.
Integration of DRM software with emerging technologies such as blockchain and AI has also been an area of focus. Blockchain technology, for example, offers a decentralized and transparent method for rights management, which could potentially offer new ways to manage and enforce DRM. Meanwhile, AI has been used to monitor and detect violations of DRM policies automatically, enhancing enforcement capabilities.

Looking to the Future

As we look forward, it is clear that DRM technologies will continue to evolve and adapt. The growth of virtual and augmented reality offers new challenges for DRM, as these platforms create entirely new environments for content consumption that may require novel forms of rights management. Additionally, the ongoing debate between balancing DRM protections and user rights will continue to influence how DRM is perceived and implemented.
Overall, the evolution of DRM software over the past decade has been both significant and necessary. It has moved from a widely criticized and somewhat blunt tool to a more refined and flexible solution that supports the distribution and consumption of digital content in multiple forms. As long as digital content continues to be a central part of our lives, DRM software will remain an essential tool for protecting and managing digital rights fairly and effectively. Moving from US to Japan.
I’m not sure if I want to sent my stuff via USPS or fly it over.
It’s cheaper to fly but the hassle… (10+ bags)
(MAIL AND FLYING IS ONLY OPTION, not cargo ship..)
QUESTIONS -
(I thought in general if you ship personal items to yourself they’re not taxed regardless? I could be wrong but seems like some people have had that experience so I’m not sure…)
I only have a few days left to figure this out 🙃
