2024.05.14 02:01 Wingzeroelite Weapon advice, which is the better knife?

Weapon advice, which is the better knife?
Simple question, after much grinding and rng these two are the best knifes I can muster on my zealot (skill tree in the later photos), which knife do people think is better? And maybe more importantly, which blessing is better for bleed builds - flesh tearer or lacerate?
Interestingly, eventhough the second knife is a 380 roll, the damage numbers are basically the same - guess penetration doesn’t add too much.
Mobility stat is much lower on the first knife - though looking at the percentages it’s not that much of a difference for an inherently fast weapon.
As can be seen in the skill tree I’m using a fury of the faithful build with inexorable judgement for a build that’s able to go toe to toe with ragers and crushers with light attacks (with such high attack speed crits come a plenty and so does the bleed) or heavy attacks when there’s time. Though I’m wondering if I should change unyielding damage perk on the second knife to 5% extra crit chance (given fresh tearer procs on crit)?
Revolver for long range specials and charge for extra damage / close distance and toughness regen to gunners
I’ve tested in the psychanium but it’s kind of hard to tell which knife is better or if lacerate or flesh tearer is the better blessing for bleed.
Appreciate the difference is minimal but welcome any thoughts!

2024.05.14 01:51 northernhang Weeks of planning, prototyping, and building, I’ve finished my new EDC pack!

Weeks of planning, prototyping, and building, I’ve finished my new EDC pack!
I’ve returned to clarify some confusion I caused in my last post! Also to share a backpack build I’m incredibly proud of. Third times the charm lol
I’ve been stuck in the house for a little while, and just recently started doing things other than doctors appointments and grocery trips. I’ve been spending a lot of time sewing, making patterns, and daydreaming/brainstorming ideas. I’m trying to get out more now that it’s nice out, and thought that a new bag would be motivating enough for me to at least take my work to the park on really nice days. You know, encourage more time in nature.
Made with love on my good ol Kenmore 20 AKA “KennyTwenny”. I had to have my fiancee help the entire time I was attaching the back panel. An extra pair of hands is almost necessary when using my machine to do final steps of backpack builds. The throat is really small so it’s difficult to maneuver a 3d object, especially when they’re the same size as my entire machine, and includes foam. It struggles with the layers so you have to handcrank almost 80% of the time when binding.
Made from Challenge Sailcloth fabrics (and canvas for some reinforcement areas), sustainable water resistant Natulon zipper tapes, premium aluminum WeTool hardware where possible, and with a bunch of mods, I present to you my new EDC bag! If there’s interest, I plan on writing up instructions for my modifications with a mock backpack pattern to make the instructions more generic and applicable to more people.

Here are the total additional features:

Front Panel: Made with EcoPak EPLX400 in Snow White, and Black Knight. * Added 2 strips of 1.5” wide Velcro, seam sealed on the back with UltraTNT tape. Front darts are also taped. * Added 2 pockets with Black/White split colour #5 YKK Natulon water resistant shiny variant zipper tapes, accompanied with matching zipper tabs, and zipper garages. * The main pocket in the front panel has mirrored darts to the front of the backpack, allowing enough room to fit a baseball (I’d previously claimed a softball, but it’s a little smaller assembled with foam). * The smaller, top pocket in the front panel is about 6” deep, 13” wide and has a hook for keys.
Gusset/Sides: Top and Bottom Sides: Made with EcoPak EPLX400 in Black Knight.
Bottom Side: * Added 1” Tent Straps with Viking Dual Hooks.
Left and Right Sides: Made with EcoPak EPX400. * Added compression Straps using 1/2” webbing and buckles.
Left Side: * Added a Cable Pass-Through Port. This is where I caused some confusion. A water resistant zipper only accessible from the inside allows you to securely charge your phone with a battery bank stored inside the backpack. Also has a 1.5” water shield to keep everything extra waterproof. * Added an internal battery bank pouch/sleeve to keep your battery bank safe and upright while wearing the pack. Helps prevent cord damage. * Added a strip of 3/4” webbing with 1”spaces to use as attachment points. * Added an internal translucent pocket made of Challenge DTRS75. Added so I always have a phone cable in my bag. The pocket drops down and uses the water shield as usable storage.
Right Side: * Modified the water bottle pocket to hold bigger bottles. Used UltraGrid in Black Beauty.
Internals: I used a piece of canvas to reinforce the back panel since I know RBC200 alone isn’t going to hold up to the weight of a laptop. * Removed the laptop pocket. * Added 3x 10” strips of 1.5” wide Velcro to use as attachment points for a removable laptop case/sleeve. Also added 2x 2” long webbing loops for extra security.
Straps: Made with EcoPak EPLX400 in Black Knight and Snow White on the front so I could tape the seams instead of topstitching. Personal looks preference. EPX400 on the back side.
iPad Sleeve: Made with EcoPack EPX200 in Golden Dazy, and RBC200 in Lemon Lime. Used Mara 100 Colour 106. * Has 2x 10” strips of 1.5” Hook tape on the back to attach to the backpack. * Has a layer of 2mm Foam sandwiched between RBC200 and EPX200 for extra support and cushion. I already have a heavy duty iPad case. * A zippered pouch for chargers, AirPods, tech stuff… * An open top, Velcro close “mouse pocket”. To store a wallet or an external hard drive. Made it without a specific use in mind. * A strip of elastic for pens and flash drive holder. * Another strip of elastic to hold a Swiss Army Knife. Last minute idea, probably won’t end up working.
Project Materials and Sources: * Base Pattern is Porter Pony by LearnMYOG. * MARA 70 thread in colour 000 (Black) and 800 (White) from Wawak.
Main Pack: * RBC200 in Bright Orange from Refasten. * EcoPak EPLX400 in Black Knight and Snow White from Ripstop by the Roll. * EcoPak EPX400 in Black Knight from Refasten. * YKK #8 Zipper Tape from JTs Outdoor Fabrics. Black Reverse Zipper Sliders from Refasten * 1” Twill Tape for seam binding from JTs Outdoor Fabrics * 1” Nylon Webbing from JTs Outdoor Fabrics.
Main Pack Mods: * YKK #5 Natulon AquaGuard Zipper Tape in White and Black, Light Grey, and White Reverse Zipper Sliders from Mozet Supplies (u/GridstopCrafts generously provided the Black Zipper Tape, Thanks Again!). * YKK #3 Natulon AquaGuard Zipper Tape in White and Blaze Orange from Ripstop by the Roll. Black Reverse Zipper Slider from Refasten. White Locking Zipper Slider from a $2 premade zipper from Fabricland. * DTRS75 from Ripstop by the Roll. * 10mm Webbing from Amazon. 10mm Swivel Round Keyhook Gatekeeper in Black from Mozet Supplies. * 1/2” Nylon Webbing and 15mm (1/2”) Single Adjust Buckles from Refasten. * 3/4” Nylon Webbing from JTs Outdoor Fabrics. * 1.5” wide Generic Brand Hook and Loop Tape (AKA Velcro) in Black from Amazon. * 3/4” Woven Elastic for Bottle Pocket Mod from Walmart. * 1” Viking Dual Hooks from Mozet Supplies. * UltraTNT 1.25” wide Seam Sealing Tape was Special Ordered through Refasten. (Thanks Colin!)
Straps: * EcoPak EPLX400 in Black Knight And Snow White. * UltraTNT Tape 1.25” * EcoPak EPX400 in Black Knight * 25mm (1”) Double Gatekeeper - Recycled from Mozet Supplies. * 25mm (1”) Voyager Tension Lock from Mozet Supplies.
iPad pouch: * Mara 100 Colour 106 from Wawak * EcoPak EPX200 in Golden Dazy from Refasten. * Challenge RBC200 in Lemon Lime from Refasten. * #5 YKK Zipper Tape from JTs Outdoor Fabrics. * #5 YKK Reverse Zipper Slider from Refasten. * 15mm Viking Dual Hook for closure straps, from Mozet Supplies. * 1/2” Nylon Webbing, 3/4” Hook and Loop, and 5/8” Nylon Grosgrain for open top pocket strap, from Refasten. * 3/4” Nylon Webbing and Twill Tape from JTs Outdoor Fabrics. * 1.5” Hook Tape from Amazon. * 2” Elastic from a $2 Mystery Bag from Fabricland. * 2mm Foam Sheet from Michaels.

2024.05.14 01:45 SOSpammy What's new with 2024 Legion laptops compared to 2022?

My late 2022 Lenovo Legion 5 Pro completely fried recently. My fault. Should have grounded myself. But fortunately I had bought it with a credit card with an extended warranty (Citi Rewards+), and they are sending me a $1400 check. I liked the laptop and want to replace it with a similar model. I was wondering what new features have come since then. My previous laptop specs:
Last time I went AMD because I like to use it on battery for simple tasks like web browsing. I have heard that Intel is better for this now thanks to Raptor Lake's efficiency cores. Is this true?
Also a feature I sacrificed at the time was Nvidia Advanced Optimus, which oddly at the time wasn't available for 2022 AMD Legion 5 Pro models. In retrospect it's a feature I would have liked to have. Is it present on current AMD 5 Pro models?

Twitch will initially load, and play a stream, but after a [un]certain amount of time will completely break. Chat will no longer update and assets from the site will not load. Documented in the video, the stream is paused at 02:13:43 but chat hasn't been updated since 2:05:45. Then switching over to a new tab to the Twitch directory, none of the streams or categories load, even on refresh.
This has been happening for at least a week and I have tried troubleshooting various methods; Completeey clearing browsing data, using a private window (like in the video), setting up a new profile, disabling/enabling shields, disabling all extensions, altering various settings including: block fingerprinting (on/off), use secure DNS (on/off), V8 optimizer (on/off), graphics acceleration (on/off).
No matter what, the problem still persists. The only method I've found to consistently fix it, is to close the browser and then reopen it.
The issue does not occur in either Chrome or Firefox, only Brave.

2024.05.14 01:39 AwesomePossum101x Elden Ring Review: Perspective from a Non-Souls Player

I have not played any Souls or Soulslike games prior to Elden Ring. But I enjoyed doing hard things in games (e.g. playing at a higher difficulty level, or handicapping myself in some ways to create a challenge) and thought I'd give Elden Ring a go. I ended up spending over 70 hours on it and I enjoyed it very much, but it's a game that has its own idiosyncrasies.
I'll start with two things that I think Elden Ring did very well. The first, its combat system and character building. Most games introduce complexity into the combat system by introducing a myriad of skills/spells, and players are encouraged to explore synergy between them to create powerful builds. At the fundamental level, Elden Ring isn't any different here, but players will quickly notice there aren't that many skills/spells in the game, and you only can equip one skill (or a handful of spells) at one time. How Elden Ring rewards players is through mastery of their weapons, i.e. how much you understand about your weapon - its reach, its speed, its recovery (after a swing), how it combos, etc. And with over 30 different weapon types in the game (from swords to spears to fists to whips), there's much for a player to explore what weapon fits their style of play. Character building ultimately revolves around your weapon of choice, as it influences how you would distribute your attributes (strength vs. dexterity), what sorts of armours or accessories to wear, and what skills/spells to equip. It's intuitive but yet complex, producing a range of diverse builds, all with its own distinct flavours.
The second thing that Elden Ring did very well is the immersive atmosphere and visuals. The world of Elden Ring is introduced briefly in the beginning to set the stage, and what follows is an exploration of a mysterious realm shrouded in myth and legends. The developers have meticulously crafted a world that is as captivating as it is enigmatic, from the awe-inspiring landscapes that stretch out before you to the larger-than-life creatures that roam its vast expanses.
With that I want to now talk about the fundamental tenet that Elden Ring is built on: difficulty. Difficulty is something that permeates the game and is linked to how various aspects of the game are designed: general encounters, progression, storytelling, dungeon crawling and boss fights. I'll now explain each of these aspects in detail.
General encounters are hard in Elden Ring. This won't be any surprise to seasoned Souls players, but will likely catch new players by surprise how unforgiving it is. Non-boss enemies aren't really a threat in most games, but not in Elden Ring. Any enemy is a threat in this game (including rats), and if you're not careful, you will die. And probably a lot, particularly early on before you're familiar with the combat system. You can't change the difficulty in Elden Ring, and so you are expected to die to become better at the game. There are no ways out.
The game is very cryptic when it comes to providing guidance to help players progress. Unlike most games where there are map markers or some sort of hinting system to help players progress to the next event, all Elden Ring does is that it tells you an approximate direction (e.g. northwest) to move towards for the next objective. As such, you may often find yourself lost and don't know where to go or even what to do. This applies to both main story and side quests. On top of that, the conditions for completing a quest often involves doing a sequence of actions in a particular order without being given any hint. I find such a design mind boggling, and I simply don't see how you would be able to play the game blind without relying on online resources.
The world of Elden Ring is rich with lore and character narratives. But none of that is communicated to the players and as a consequence it is difficult to understand what the story of Elden Ring is about. That is, there is barely any storytelling, despite the world and its characters being embedded with stories (which you can read online). The first time I ran into a soldier encampment, I thought I could talk to them to learn a bit about the world, but all they want to do is to kill me. I quickly learn there's only one rule in the game: kill anything that moves. No one (aside from a handful of NPCs) has anything to tell me, and I am killing all manners of things simply because that is the only interaction I can have with them. When I killed the final bosses and completed the game, I don't even know who they were - I haven't heard of their names, nor do I know what roles they served in the game. I murdered them because they were simply there. Miyazaki, the creator of Elden Ring (and more generally the Soulsborne series), credited this style of storytelling to how he grew up reading English novels with limited understanding and he had to piece the story together with his imagination. While I think that's an interesting anecdote, I am not convinced that's a good justification for such style of storytelling.
Dungeon crawling is punishing in Elden Ring for a few reasons. For one, when you die, you have a chance to lose all the experience that you have not converted to levels. Healing at a save point also respawns all enemies, and that disincentivises exploration because you'll have to chop down all the enemies again to check for an earlier diverging path. Also, Elden Ring dungeons feature unintuitive design where the right path sometimes requires you to drop off a ledge or balcony; that caught me a few times and I had to rely on online resources for help. Over time, I find myself playing more conservatively in dungeons and trying to find the shortest path rather than checking every nook and corner to fully explore a dungeon. I did not enjoy dungeon crawling in Elden Ring, and I think the whole experience would have been much more positive with just one change: remove enemy respawn entirely.
Bosses take hours to beat. Players are expected to die repeatedly to learn how to fight a boss, and the learning curve involves: (1) understanding their moves and figuring out how to dodge them; and (2) finding the gaps between their attacks to land your offense. This is perhaps the one of the few difficult aspects in Elden Ring that I very much enjoyed. Bosses are well designed and come in all forms of creative maneuvers, and overcoming them ultimately prove to be a very satisfying experience. I spent 7 hours taking down Malenia, the undisputed hardest boss in Elden Ring (and arguably one of the hardest in the Souls universe), and I enjoyed every bit of it.
Hopefully it's clear now in what ways difficulty manifests in Elden Ring. But are they enjoyable? That is a very subjective question, as it depends on many factors - your personality, temperament, state of life, gaming experience, etc. Personally, I found most of them frustrating, at least initially, but later on a good part of this frustration is mitigated because I started using online resources such as wikis and guides. But should a game be designed in such a way where players have to use online guides to play it? Prior to Elden Ring I would say no, but here's another thought: maybe Elden Ring is designed to be played by a community (as opposed to one player) and that knowledge sharing among players is what the developer intended to overcome these challenges.
If someone were to ask me, should they play Elden Ring? I'd give this answer: (1) if you like Souls games, it's a no brainer; (2) if you haven't played any Souls games before but you enjoy a bit of challenge in games, maybe give it a go with an open mind; and (3) if you are casual player that mostly play standard difficulty in games, I'd say avoid it - you're likely to find just pure frustration.

2024.05.14 01:36 Minimum_Count9758 Solo Sword Bardadin Build - Supreme Martial All Arounder

NOTE: This guide contains a ton of gear and narrative spoilers
Most Sword Bard builds are either focused on either ranged or control + melee/AoE attack styles, and I wanted to explore whether or not it would be possible to take the best of both to make the ultimate martial all around build. This build features Sharpshooter with ranged damage of 20-30 per arrow and GWM + smite damage of 60-120 per single hit by the end game.

Background Theme

The theme for the build is a resisting dark urge, with a desire for redemption to become the champion of Baldurs's Gate. And this theme weaves through the playthrough with items and choices along the journey, for example:

Build Overview

The build centers around a combination of Bard and Paladin, with all three feats, for a Level 8 Sword Bard / Level 4 Oath of Vengeance Paladin. Feats are Shapshooter, Great Weapons Master and Tavern Brawler centered around Nyrulna for throwing + smite melee and the Titanstring bow for ranged giving absolute martial authority under almost all circumstances.
In addition to the primary martial strength, you gain the jack of all trades benefits of being a Bard, including exceptional social skills, relatively high charisma, good persuasion, deception, sleight of hand and stealth.
Early game, expect to play like any other dexterity/charisma bard, with the first 6 level progression on Bard alone.
By the end of Act 1, and with the acquisition of the Gloves of Dexterity in Creche Y'llek,a respec is needed to maximize the benefits of the Titanstring and the build plays like a ranged beast through all of the mid-game.
After level 6 of Bard, we begin to level into Paladin, which opens the door for the character to start building up melee power. Truth be told, I may have respec'ed a few times between levels 6-10 trying a few things on for size, but the most effective strategy mid-game was:
By Act 3 and the late game, and with the acquisition of Nyrulna from the Djinni at the Circus of the Last Days in Rivington, the martial melee power took center stage, with ranged flourishes still very powerful, but no longer the primary attack strategy. And by level 12 and the end game, you have the choice between throwing Nyrulna for AoE or Slashing Flourish for specific ranged attacks.
Philosophically, the build is focused on fast nova damage to overwhelm a larger group by decimating them in the first 2 turns. High movement is key, we're always looking to surprise enemies, and taking advantage of stealth and invisibility to duck in and out of battle for the occasional "oh shit" moment or recharge of bardic inspiration.

Leveling Guide & Feats

As noted earlier, this build really doesn't come online until level 6, more so at level 8+. Prior to that, you're just an average ranged or melee bard, your choice. The end game goal is Level 8 College of Swords Bard / Level 4 Oath of Vengeance (or Oathbreaker) Paladin.
Race choices include Wood Elf, High Elf, Duegar Dwarf, Half Orc, Gnome or Halfling. I've always opted for one of the elves, primary because of movement speed. The fighting style that has evolved for me throughout multiple solo runs now is that you are often fighting in retreat, and movement is key to manage this. If you're playing this as part of a party, movement is less important.
Levels 1-6 - Bard
I recommend a respec as soon as you are able to purchase the Gloves of Dexterity, which for me happens usually around level 4 or 5 somewhere. When you do, choose STR 17, DEX 8, CON 14, INT 8, WIS 10, CHA 16.
Levels 7-8 - Paladin
Levels 9-10 - Bard
We're really just marching towards that second feat here. Choose whatever you want for spells, I like Freedom of Movement, Greater Invisibility, Fear, Hypnotize. For this build, spells are tertiary to ranged and melee damage, so the focus should be on enhancements and prep spells for battle, not in battle casting against enemies.
Levels 11-12 - Paladin
Again, we're marching to our third feat but you can pick up some great Paladin support and control spells like Command, Bless, Protection from Good and Evil, and additional smites.

Gear Guide

Not extensive, but I'll list out the important items I picked up and used along the way, but place an asterisk by absolutely essential items
Early Act 1
Late Act 1
Act 2
Act 3
End Game items

Buffs and Enhancements

Other Misc Tactics and Potions

I used Potion of Speed, Elixir of Bloodlust, Elixir of Viciousness, Invisibility, and various posions/toxins for weapon dipping throughout the game. Bloodlust was easily the most important for a solo run, I tried to put it on after as many long rests as possible, followed closely by speed potions and invisibility on a per battle basis. Buy Hyena Ears and Worg Fangs every time you see them.
I stocked up on tons of scrolls along the way, the most important of which were Haste, Remove Curse, Misty Step, Fireball, Lightning (+Chain), Mirror Image, Invisibility, Cone of Cold or other large AOE high level spells.
FOOTNOTE: Thanks for reading this far. I've played through the game now like 12 times or so, with one successful honor run, and the last 3 of which were solo runs on Tactician. The solo runs were inspired by Friendly Lich and his blade warlock: https://www.reddit.com/BG3Builds/comments/1cmn6sb/a_warlock_pact_of_the_blade_multiclass_for_solo/
This resisting the dark urge run was my favorite playthrough so far, for both the narrative storyline, and how it played thematically into this build, with the choices between good and evil waffling back and forth along the way, ultimately leading to redemption. I think this is the best story arc of BG3.
I've considered a couple of other options for this build that I'd like to experiment with in the future, including ditching one of the feats and adding one level of War Cleric to get Sanctuary and Guidance. I will not lie, I save scummed a few times along the way and Guidance and Sanctuary would have helped me a bunch in those situations. However, it was rewarding to get the full martial with Tavern Brawler on Nyrulna in the end, will report back if I end up tinkering. Suggestions welcome!

2024.05.14 01:12 WandererHakuja Was this a good deal?

Was this a good deal?
I’ve been in the market for a laptop and I know that Legions happen to be some of the best especially when it comes to bang for buck.
I’ve been interested in a 7i but was concerned when I kept reading that the 8th and 9th gen models went down in overall build quality and nice extra features so that they could add 4080s and 4090s. I also kept seeing that one of the biggest complaints was keyboard flex and the plastic trackpad. This one seems to have a sturdy keyboard deck and glass trackpad and even a fingerprint sensor on the power button.
I had a $250 Walmart gift card I’ve had saved from Christmas last year and was wondering if this Gen7 with these specs were worth it for basically $1,219.99.

2024.05.14 01:12 feurigel_ Hytale will be highly multiplayer focused, f2p and a Roblox competitor targeted at the Chinese market. Here’s why.

Please don’t feel attacked by this post. Im not saying that this would be good for us or the game. This is just a theory I have on why Riot bought Hytale Studios.
TL;DR Considering Riot‘s previous strategy, I think it is not likely that they are interested in publishing just another survival sandbox rpg game. Hytale promised alot about extremely customizable (moddable) multiplayer servers, capturing the essence of the Minecraft server ecosystem without its limitations. This is likely what captured Riot‘s interest because of the very promising and proven concept of gaming platforms where games are created by independent developers(users). They will be able to compete with Roblox because they could be a much more developer friendly alternative (practically and financially) and are much more likely to be allowed in China due to Hytale Studios being owned by a Chinese company (Riot is owned by Tencent). A good base game (story mode?) will be a part of Hytale to pull players and developers into the ecosystem initially and create charm but it will not be the main focus.
Riot‘s strategy. Moving into various multiplayer gaming niches that have a proven formula, an existing player-base, generate constant money inflow, „low“ initial investment and competitors that can be dethroned. All this while specifically targeting the east asian market, making their art style, gameplay and monetization appealing to the average east-asian gamer and acceptable for the Chinese government. (Excluding games published by Riot forge because it was discontinued)
We have been seeing this strategy with League of legends, legends of runeterra and valorant But most notably team fight tactics.
While tft isn’t a big deal anywhere else it is a very big deal in east Asia. specifically targeted at the Chinese market where auto-chess or strategy mobile games in general dominate the whole industry. It was released as „Battle of the golden spatula“ and is featured within the top grossing list in the Chinese appstore charts since.
Why Roblox and why China? Roblox is (in theory) an extremely profitable concept because the developers don’t need to invent, code or maintain the games on their platform themselves. It is also a proven concept and has a gigantic player-base with 70million daily active players. Roblox also has a lot of areas that could be improved significantly especially when it comes to the treatment of their independent developers that are crucial for the whole idea.
Those are already very promising factors for Riots strategy but heres the reason why I came up with the theory in the first place: Roblox is not available in China and Riot is owned by Tencent. Nor are there any games with the same concept available in China. This means there is a gigantic demand vacuum for this type of platform. Roblox has tried to launch in China but it turned out to be a very very difficult task because of its decentralized nature and the ccp’s strict regulations. They knew it would be destined to fail when published by an US corporation alone so they created a Chinese version called „Luobu“ and sold 49% to Tencent to help them be allowed there in the first place. Though Luobu was taken offline in 2021 and a rerelease is questionable.
Tencent has very good ties to the Chinese government and their games are much much more likely to be allowed in china and also a lot faster (it takes multiple years for western games to be even considered). Hytale(studios) is owned 100% by Tencent.

2024.05.14 01:08 Jung_69 Game is a huge disappointment.

I don’t see any improvement, or growth when I compare HW3 to HW2 (except for graphics).
Some notes from my last play through -
Fighter targeting sucks ass just like it did in hw2. Order 10 fighters to engage 5 enemy ones and instead of acquiring targets in 2:1 ratio they’ll just chase them 10:1 one by one which is supper inefficient. How they haven’t figured out how to fix it I have no idea. They just copy pasted it. Also building fighters one by one instead of formations of 5 is worse IMO. Overall fighters are fragile asf - life expectancy is 0, so you just end up spamming build button.
Variety of interesting ships for different scenarios is 0. No new additions. Less corvettes.
Game is too fast. Not in a good way. There’s no depth to it, which was sacrificed (I assume) to the fast paced gameplay. Everything looks like they tried to make a game which will be played professionally like SC… but it won’t reach that level of popularity because it lacks the strategical/tactical depth.
Maps cause claustrophobic panic attacks. They small asf. They feel like sets in a cheap theater. Cluttered, small, meaningless. Resources are scarce and ru clusters are spread wide, forcing you into engaging enemy straight away. Also when they talked about surfaces having tactical importance they didn’t lie - game is forcing you into environments filled with debris, asteroids etc. What they failed to mention is that path finding is horrendous so your fighters end up hugging and orbiting asteroids instead of flying past them.
Ship designs… all they had to do is take old ship designs and wrap them into the new graphical engine. They managed to f it up too somehow. Absolutely uninspired designs. Motherships in HW2 felt like huge behemoths, this one feels odd. Overall the sense of scale in not there. (That’s with nlips off. Nlips on is 1000 times worse)
I honestly think they spent 90% of the budget and time on cutscenes and fancy UI. 10% spent on dumbing down gamepla and cutting features in the name of no idea what, prbly. That pegi 7 rating doesn’t lie: game is really made for 7yo children.
I don’t care about denuvo, but after playing the game I’m 100% positive that the only reason they added it is because they realized people who usually “test drive” a game before officially buying it, won’t spend the money on this one. And the fomo edition of the game is nothing but a money grab.
How could someone make it worse instead of improving on top of what’s already been achieved with HW1 and HW2, I have no idea.
I just downloaded HW remaster and fired up skirmish in Complex… it’s a much better experience that this pile of… whatever it is. Good job on killing the franchise. Your target audience (whoever they are) will surely enjoy it for a week or two. In a year with so many great games, made by independent developers, being released, this is a huge disappointment.
Don’t forget that refunds are limited to 2 hours of playtime. The amount of absolutely useless cutscenes during the campaign is enough to get you past the refund time. It also spams steam achievements one after another, so be careful (feels a bit scammy, to be honest).
I’d rather spend my money on Falling Frontier, and Era One )both coming this year), check those out, they look like they have soul.

2024.05.14 01:03 __kaleidoscope $2500 Budget for my first gaming/streaming PC

1. What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games (ex: resolution, FPS, settings) or programs you will be using.
I primarily use my PC for:
I'll usually have my web browser and a Discord call in the background.
I stream either games or art 5-7 days/week. An average stream is about 4-6 hours, but it can go up to 12 hours per session for several weeks. Otherwise I work on art commissions and editing.
Currently, FFXIV sits comfortably around 144 FPS on low settings, and most games run fine at 60+ FPS on medium. So I'd like to keep it about the same, if not better. I have no interest in running games at high/maximum settings, but if the PC can do that, then cool 👍
2. What is your maximum PRE-TAX budget before rebates and shipping?
$2500. I don't mind going over if the price is right, but no more than $3000 please.
3. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Within the next 1-2 weeks.
4. What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ex: toweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower & OS.
5. If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? How old are they? Brands and models are appreciated.
6. Will you be overclocking (ex: CPU/GPU/RAM)? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line?
Not at all.
7. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, VR, VirtualLink, tensor cores, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
8. Do you have any specific case preferences (ex: mITX/mATX/mid-towefull-tower sizes, styles, colours, window or not, LED lighting, etc.), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
No preference, as long as cable management is happy. White would be cool, but whatever is fine. I'll probably put the tower either under my standing desk (>26") or beside it, so no preference on height.
9. Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? Note: some post-secondary students can get Windows 10 for free.
Yes. 64-bit
10. Will you be upgrading this PC in the future (ie: will you swap out better parts later on or will you build an entirely new tower later)? If so, when?
If the computer can last at least 6 years without upgrading, that would be solid. Ideally I'd just swap parts, but if the build works, I'll probably gift and/or build another one for my family in the future.
11. Do you have a brand preference? (ex: AMD/Intel for CPUs, AMD/NVIDIA for video cards, etc)
I stream on Twitch with OBS, so I'd like to try NVIDIA if possible. But honestly, if it performs well, I'll take it.
12. What are the specs of your old PC / laptop? Do you want to see if it can be upgraded instead? If so, paste its build from PCPartPicker here.
(2021) Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6A: AMD Ryzen 5 5600H, AMD Radeon RX 6600M 8GB, 512GB SSD
13. Extra info or particulars:
I'll be giving my current laptop to my dad! I'm mostly happy with it, but I want to upgrade to a PC after using laptops for over a decade lol.
One issue I have currently: Regardless if I stream online or record offline, sometimes the audio is distorted for a few seconds (however, there are no issues with hearing my microphone nor frame dropping). I've never encountered this issue with my older PC (~2015) or when I was using my previous mic (now broken).
I suspect my issues stem from a combination of stream bitrate, too many active USB ports/externals, microphone, or just plain user error. I don't think the issue is related to AMD or sound bitrate necessarily, since the laptop had no issues with streaming in the first few years. But honestly, I don't know, my friends don't know either, and I'm too afraid to change anything more lmao.
I have plans to replace my keyboard, don't worry 🥲 I've gotten many recommendations lmao.
I have no experience with building PCs or comparing parts, so I'd appreciate any advice! One of my friends offered to help build the PC, and I'll be looking up guides too 👍

2024.05.14 01:03 eatshitbucko New Homeowner - Locating Studs, Electrical, and Plumbing in Plaster and Lath Walls

Hello!
My wife and I just bought our first home, a 1933 colonial with plaster and lath walls. House is in great shape but I have been racking my brain on the best methods to use when going forward on hanging things/aesthetic improvements.
One thing I definitely plan on doing is putting up crown and wainscotting in a lot of different rooms, not the pre made panels, but chair rail and picture moulding. Likely going to do full height in the upstairs hallway, 1/3 height in my office, potentially full height in the primary bedroom, etc. so I am going to be shooting a lot of nails.
I am on the fence between these two stud finders:
Franklin M210 ($63.00)
Bosch D-Tect 120 ($250)
The Bosch has a few more features and apparently scans deeper but not sure if it is worth the extra nearly $200, it also seems to get more conflicting reviews. I know (if I am lucky and there is no wire mesh) that I will be able to use the stud finder to locate studs and live wires, but I am mostly worried about identifying piping as well, as the stud finder may pick it up but of course won't reflect the difference between a stud. We have oil and steam heater and radiators in every single room so I assume there is piping going all over the place.
I assume I should be able to use a rare earth magnet to cross check the stud finder to help determine if what is being picked up is a stud or a pipe as the magnet would stick to the stud nails and not the pipe but I am still a little worried. Should I pick up this camera scope to use as well to be extra sure? I could always drill where I plan to put the chair rail to eliminate the need of too much patching.
Please provide me with any recommendations you may have in terms of tools, means and methods, or anything else. I would greatly appreciate figuring out the best method so when we move in 2 weeks from now I have a game plan.
And yes, I will be checking the stud finder on myself first to give it the first true calibration.
THANK YOU!

2024.05.14 01:00 EJC28 Saints 2024 Draft Analysis Compilation

Round 1, Pick 14 - Taliese Fuaga, OT, Oregon State:
NFL: The Saints fill their tackle need with a feisty and powerful brawler who can make an immediate impact along the offensive line. Fuaga's presence will help the unit become more physical, which will only benefit quarterback Derek Carr and the run game.
CBS Sports: B+. He fills a major need for the Saints. They have big-time tackle issues. Fuaga is a nasty player who will start right away. Love it.
ESPN: The Saints picked a position that has been on their radar since the end of the 2023 season, and it checks a lot of boxes for a New Orleans first-round selection. Fuaga was a team captain and two-year starter for Oregon State and played in the Senior Bowl, a game that has produced a lot of Saints players. The question is how fast can he start and where on the line he fits best. Fuaga said he's open to playing on the left side and has been training for that, even though he played right tackle in college. If the Saints move him to the left side, he'll compete with 2022 first-round pick Trevor Penning. If they keep him on the right side, it could signal that the concerns about Ryan Ramczyk's knees are worse than they thought earlier in the offseason.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Is constantly asking teammates for electrical tape.
Round 2, Pick 41 - Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama:
NFL: The secondary figured to be a spot the Saints might attack, and they traded up to land McKinstry. He's a steady, smart, solid corner with good field awareness and decent but not great ball skills. This selection feels like a solid line drive into the gap for a team that needs more reliable defenders.
CBS Sports: B+. Such a clean outside CB prospect. Press man specialty. Physical but not overly grabby. Solid, not spectacular speed. Ball skills meet the standard you want out of a higher-end starter. Good size too. Arguably the best player available. Expensive trade up.
ESPN: The Saints liked McKinstry enough to trade a fifth and sixth-round pick to move up four spots from No. 45 to No. 41. The team nabbed him in the middle of an early Day 2 run on cornerbacks. The addition of McKinstry doesn't mean it's a sure thing that the Saints deal 2017 first-round cornerback Marshon Lattimore, but it does mean that will be a potential move to watch this summer. McKinstry would join Paulson Adebo, Alontae Taylor and potentially Lattimore in the cornerback room, and he said he'd also like to contribute on special teams as a kick returner.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Was the kid who Naruto ran between classes in high school.
Round 5, Pick 150 - Spencer Rattler, QB, South Carolina:
NFL: This is lower than I imagined Rattler going, especially after six quarterbacks all went off the board in the first 12 picks. Rattler is an interesting developmental talent who has some skills that might remind Saints fans of a certain age of Aaron Brooks -- for both good and bad reasons. Well worth the pick here.
CBS Sports: A-. Former huge recruit who once received first-round buzz. Arm talent jumps off the film. Unafraid to make any throw and at South Carolina connected on many of them. Low-level athlete despite some functional movement away from pressure. Accuracy is good, and reads coverages decently. Older prospect but does have upside. Smart investment this late.
ESPN: The Saints added another quarterback just one year after signing Derek Carr and selecting Jake Haener in the fourth round of the 2023 draft. The Saints usually operate in "win now" mode with how they manage the salary cap, but the selection of Rattler indicates the Saints could be looking toward the future at that position. Rattler will compete with Haener for the backup spot behind Carr after the departure of Jameis Winston. Winston came in for Carr several times last season after Carr left three games with injuries.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Glad to be drafted but really wanted a 9-5 desk job as an actuary.
Round 5, Pick 170 - Bub Means, WR, Pittsburgh:
NFL: Means has the speed to dent the WR depth chart in New Orleans and is a good fit for what the Saints do. He has big, reliable hands and can stress a defense deep but never was a featured target in his three college stops.
CBS Sports: B+. Height/weight/speed specimen with the long-striding speed to take the lid off the defense. Tracks it well and can carry out classic possess WR duties on the boundary when he’s not going deep. Some YAC flashes but not his speciality. Prudent add, even though he’s a niche type who won’t separate a ton.
ESPN: The Saints fill another need, adding a wide receiver to account for the departure of Michael Thomas. Means ran a 4.43 second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine this year to go along with 721 yards and six touchdowns at Pitt. Means will join No.1 wideout Chris Olave, speedy Rashid Shaheed, A.T. Perry and veteran Cedrick Wilson. Dennis Allen said earlier in the offseason that they were looking for another pass catcher, and Means will join a new Saints coaching staff with a potentially revamped offense.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Is convinced if he messages the mods enough, they’ll finally listen to him.
Round 5, Pick 175 - Jaylan Ford, LB, Texas:
NFL: A thickly built thumper with monotone play speed, Ford thrives with instincts and tape study. Does he have enough athleticism to make it as more than a two-down defender? We shall see.
CBS Sports: B. Lengthy middle linebacker with some suddenness to his game. Wasted movement appear on film, so do impressive plays on the football in coverage. Not an overly physical or high-motor defender. Sifts through traffic well. Has starter traits because of his three-down ability. Although he must tackle more soundly.
ESPN: Ford will add linebacker depth and versatility, as he played both inside linebacker and outside linebacker at Texas. 35-year-old Demario Davis and Pete Werner will take the majority of the snaps, with new signee Willie Gay rotating in if the Saints are playing base defense. That means that Ford will likely be a depth piece and a special-teams player to begin his career.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Can only spell bananas by singing Holaback Girl. There is choreography too.
Round 6, Pick 199 - Khristian Boyd, DT, Northern Iowa:
NFL: He's not a great playmaker, but Boyd's mass and bull-like strength could give him a chance to be an early-down nose tackle. He's tough and reliable with good stamina.
CBS Sports: B+. Big-bodied NT with athletic prowess. Rushes tend to get high, and while he converts speed to power on occasion, if he sunk the pad level, he could be a very powerful defensive lineman. Pass-rush move arsenal isn’t barren just not relied upon often. Unique NT with DT abilities.
ESPN: The 24-year-old comes in with a lot of college experience, having started his career in 2018. The Saints like to rotate their defensive linemen, so he'll join a rotation that includes Bryan Bresee, Khalen Saunders and Nathan Shepherd. He said he prides himself on stopping the run, but also had 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks at Northern Iowa in 2023.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: He is aiming to be the greatest player ever picked 199th.
Round 7, Pick 239 - Josiah Ezirim, OT, Eastern Kentucky:
NFL: Ezirim is a converted D-lineman with two years of OL play under his belt. His outstanding mass could serve him well if the Saints are patient with Ezirim's development.
CBS Sports: A. Starter-caliber size and length to play OT at the next level. Natural power jumps off the film. Better getting across the line than climbing to second level. Grip strength is very good. Well-balanced. Not a freaky athletic specimen but has clean film. More OT help for Saints.
ESPN: It wasn't a surprise that the Saints continued to look for offensive line depth after using a first-round pick on an offensive tackle. Ezirim was a former nose tackle who moved to the offensive line during the 2021 season and became a permanent starter at RT for the last two seasons. At 6-5 and 329 pounds, he'll be the heaviest player on the team next to new OL Oli Udoh. He'll start out as a depth player.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Has a really nice fountain pen collection.

2024.05.14 00:58 Maall2390 1989 part 2-reviewed by a man who is starting to warm to Taylor

Part 1 available here: https://www.reddit.com/TaylorSwift/comments/1cqk2h7/1989_part_1reviewed_by_a_man_who_isnt_really_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=post_embed&utm_term=1&utm_content=1
As promised guys, I will restart my listen along as well as delivering my unbiased views towards the album 1989 once again. I really appreciated the insight that all of you gave me into the first three songs (especially u/morgangrimestho in Blank Space). Here we go, Out Of The Woods.
  1. Out Of The Woods
This song opens with a looped 'oh-oh-oh', which once again gives an abrupt feel to the start, and therefore an instant hook (to be honest though, it kind of put me off at the start). Now I don't use this word a lot, but the only way I can define this song, is as 'funky'. The backing track and what I think is an 808 (for those who aren't music nerds like me, that's a drum machine) makes the most 80s sound yet, Taylor's voice also adds to this throughout the first verse. The chorus is obviously very catchy, and something I have noticed throughout the previous songs is that I am really entranced by the points where she almost raises her voice, gets louder and higher, moves into head voice. Verse 2 is similar. However, there is a very nice high note on 'you were looking at me'. Last chorus is amazing. Overall, a good, good song.
Backing:8/10(would have been 9 if not for the start)
Vocals:8/10
Lyrics:6/10
  1. All You Had To Do Was Stay
When I saw the song title, I was NOT expecting a major key song. I was expecting melancholy, much like All Too Well. However, I was greeted by an upbeat track which made me want to find out more. The 'Stay' which is floated over the top is a nice addition. However, in contrast with all of the previous songs, it does not sound like something out of the 80s, and much more like a stadium filler from the 2010s, which is not necessarily a good thing. However, the unexpected happiness of the song is, well, unexpected. Mixed review here, first song on the album which is only 'average'. This is not going on my playlist.
Backing:5/10(not an 80s sound)
Vocals:6/10
Lyrics:5/10
  1. Shake It Off
A classic that, literally, everyone knows. (Sidenote: it appears everyone but Taylor knows it, as shown on the Tonight Show). Very catchy opening drum sequence. You can certainly make comparisons here between Blank Space and this, as both attack the press for contradicting each other and creating false rumors (That's what people say mm mm). Something that is also different to the other songs is the introduction of brass, which is, almost, Bruce Springsteen-esque. This and Blank Space completely change Taylor's focus over to the pop world. This track has definitely made me 'shake off' All You Had To Do Was Stay, and I am 'getting down to this sick beat'. That was quite literally the worst joke I have ever made but oh well. (Also, does she ever introduce her songs with 'you could be getting down to this sick beat'? I feel like that would be a Taylor thing to do, and pretty cool as well). Anyway, brilliant descant, similar to Style, and it brings a great song to an end. Well recovered, Taylor.
Backing:9/10(extra credit for the Bruce Springsteen 80s style)
Vocals:8.5/10(almost 9)
Lyrics:7/10
Anyway, there it is, although a bit late, and I will be back again tomorrow for part 3.
I am going to the WONDERLAND of sleep now.
I actually can't stop with the taylor references please help.

To Delay Critics and Project Doubters A Response
Huge projects are hard. Huge projects done under the watchful eye of a vocal and critical public are extra hard.
On the 10th anniversary of the approval to extend Avkan ruun-Heshkari’s mandate in consideration of The Rediscovery Endeavor, you might have expected a concerted effort from his opposition to sway the vocal public. While Avkan’s team was most assuredly highlighting the accomplishments they made in the past decade, Waru had to have been attacking roadmap progress, complaining about deliverable delays, and seeding doubts with comments like:
“What if he is intentionally slowing things down so that he can rule for longer?”
“Avkan is organizing the most powerful Alterers from all factions under his command. If we do not stop him now, he will have an army so powerful that we cannot stop him in the future.”
And of course he would have continued to push the key point that Waru had been pushing since early days in the Ruzzante.
“If we do indeed have limited resources, spending them on this explorer’s fantasy is only serving to speed us to our end. We should instead be using those resources to fund the Axiom Guilds’ recycling projects, we should be resourcing combination Yzmir and Muna efforts to invent more efficient ways to produce food and leverage the land, and we should be building our cities up.”
“Up not out,” may have been a slogan they tried. Or maybe, “Wait out the storm.”
The below is a 3 part public response given by poet Himitsu of the Cinquain, a Lyra established organization of poet consuls founded in 295 AC.

2024.05.14 00:35 SapphicRaccoonWitch Gloomstalker Sword bard?

Does it synergise well? If so what leveling order would you take/ which class would you rush for extra attack with? I'm thinking of making a dark archer with the vibe of an arcane trickster and these classes both fit that so I'm wondering how to go about it

2024.05.14 00:24 WasdCritics Lightyear Frontier

Lightyear Frontier, the first title from Frame Break, a Swedish game development studio, presents an open-world game in early access, in which the player piloting a Mecha must work to survive and revitalize the newly colonized planet, as well as uncover the secrets present in this unknown world.
The game offers a set of elements that broaden its scope and make it daring, to say the least, especially considering that it is the first game from an indie studio. After landing on the unknown planet, it is necessary to recover the Mecha and its various tools. Upon completing this brief tutorial, the player has their Mecha ready, which is basically a Mecha made for agricultural purposes in order to help colonize other planets by obtaining resources. At this point the player is introduced to the farm element of the game, the player must collect the alien plants from the planet and cultivate them in order to develop the agricultural land, along with this proposal is added the whole layer of managing a base with different structures and improvements for the Mecha. Finally, there is the element of the open world, which is eager for exploration in order to discover new resources and uncover the mysteries of the new environment.
The story of the game goes hand in hand with the main objective: upon entering the planet, the player needs to start a new life in the new world, and a big part of that life, apart from the little farm, is exploring the environment. Each time a new environment is cleared, the player learns a little more about the game's history through a personal AI that tells them why the space exploration mission took place and what the process was like. At the same time, there is a sealed door that has its seals unlocked according to each new environment that is rejuvenated. After the environments have been completely rejuvenated, the sealed door is opened and part of the world's secrets are revealed, along with a special ability for the mech. Unfortunately the story stops there, there is a sequel but it hasn't been produced yet, you'll have to wait for future updates and for the game to be officially released for it to be completed.
As for the farm part of the game, this is also essential to the story as a whole, it's not there as an extra element that takes up time without any purpose, because it's from the 5 tools that the player has in their mech that the process of cleaning up the environment takes place, especially with the plant watering tool and the harvester. The robotic watering can is used to remove harmful mud and the harvester is used to remove harmful weeds, so without both, the whole exploration element becomes meaningless. So where does the farm come in? Mud and weeds are more resistant in more advanced environments, so you need to upgrade the mech's tools so that these obstacles can be removed, and that's where the farm comes in, it's where the different constructions are made available and resources are obtained in order to improve the mecha. The Mecha's improvement site is also built at the base next to the buildings that process the different metals, woods and alien plants into oils to be used as improvements. In addition to the farm itself, exploration is important in the Mecha's evolution, since resources such as trees, stones, aluminum, copper and iron need to be collected from the environment. All these elements are there to make improvements to the Mecha possible, improvements that are not only essential for the game as a whole to continue, but are also important for more efficient maintenance of the plantation.
There are also other interesting elements such as the product store that appears daily on the player's farm, where you can sell and buy products to facilitate progression and partly reduce the need to grind. There's also the quest board, which offers tasks in exchange for money to be spent in the produce store. One element that has been developed that is a positive surprise are the random events on the plantation, which are basically two: the noxious bubbles that need to be popped with the water jet before they grow and explode, and the rain of noxious weeds, both of which can wipe out the player's plantation and both of which always occur in the morning and close to harvest day, for this reason the player is almost obliged to sleep in the house overnight, because if they don't and the random event occurs the next day, it's practically impossible to remedy the disaster on the plantation, so the element is used to limit exploration to an extent that the farm won't be abandoned, an excellent game design idea.
An impactful characterization of decoration in the gameplay has been developed by Frame Break in Lightyear Frontier, unlike other games, the work generously rewards the player for decorating the area of their residence. The different levels of housing allow for different degrees of bonuses, and these bonuses are incredible, such as the chance to increase the collection of resources, destroy objects more quickly with a “critical” with the blade tool, or even increase the yield of the plantation. The fact is that the game has turned the element of customizing the house and its surroundings into an essential element of the gameplay, and it's an incredible way of encouraging the player to explore all the infinite decorations beyond “I want to make my house pretty”.
Aesthetically, the work has a pseudo-realism, where the playful mixes with the real and the cartoonish style takes over. It's an interesting mix and is in line with the model proposed by Frame Break, the exploration and colonization of a new planet. Graphically, the game is beautiful and presents almost no performance problems, with few bugs to be found.
In conclusion, Lightyear Frontier delivers the old and basic in a revamped form, not a bad thing for a small studio that has made great strides with its first work. Meca's idea draws attention to the game, which features exploration, base management, the creation of a farm, and a story with normal levels. There is nothing extraordinary or innovative about the basic structure of the game, but it is solid and very well interconnected, the elements of the work are interdependent, which generates continuous progression in all aspects of the work. In short, the work is characterized in this way: the basics done with care and dedication so that the homogeneity of the work is maintained, together with a dash of daring with a somewhat out-of-the-box idea.
