2024.05.14 02:19 Anchoraceae The logistics of selling online?

I don't have any great ways to make money. Although I'd love for my next partial to be my own character, I think I'm confident enough to attempt to sell whatever I make next.
However, I'm not sure what websites people use to sell. What subreddits, what fb groups, what sites...
I have a business PayPal for my art commissions and I occasionally have to mail things for eBay so I'm not new to doing business online- just curious how to advertise and where.
or any other tips!
Granted I've only made one head.. Maybe I'm over confident? But I won't be able to afford to continue to do this unless I can turn some kind of profit.
I feel like everyone and their mother is selling parts (hands, tails) and I'll have to fight very hard to get into the market unless I make extremely high quality items. is this true to any extent?

2024.05.14 02:12 SeasonNo2239 8mm natural filters?

I have been looking for 8mm filters that are not made from plastic. I have found a few 6mm natural fibre filters, and I cannot understand why not in 8mm. Is 8mm for tobacco/cigarettes irregular?
I tried the 8mm RAW cotton filters, and experienced zero draw. I tried unpacking the densely packed filter, hastily got annoyed and regretfully threw the whole bag out thinking “how could they sell a product that does not work?”
I tried to get Arango organic filters, but the one site that carries them does not deliver outside the US, and the other site is a wholesaler. I am in Canada.
I tried to order from Mr Tipps for their bamboo corn filter. This product looks pretty cool. But there is a website error that prevents me from completing the order while checking out. And they are unresponsive to emails.
In the meantime I have been stuffing bits of cotton in pre rolled tips. But this is pretty tedious. Am I S.O.L.? I moved to RYO for a cleaner smoke. Tobacco, paper, filter. And there does not seem to be a market for filters made from a non plastic material. Cotton, paper, corn, etc.
I would genuinely like to understand why not? I am blue collar, and it seems like most smokers around me are only interested in the cheapest smoke they can get and don’t care what is in it or what it is made from or even how bad the smoke is. I would think smoking through a plastic filter would be undesirable.
I would move to just pre rolled paper tips, but I get tongue bite when smoking without filters, and loose tobacco falls out. Perhaps I could dry the tobacco a bit more, and try a slower draw more like cigar smoking. I don’t know.
Any suggestions? Thank you.

2024.05.14 02:09 dancemermaid Where to look next for missing birth and census records?

Hi all!
Trying to make a LONG and very complicated story short...my family has very deep roots in Virginia USA. As far back as I have gotten and not one of them has ever moved outside of our area.
My 3xgreat grandmother Bessie grew up here and had 5 sons who were all illegitimate and all by different men. One of whom of course was my great-great grandpa Jerry.
Jerry was her first born child about 1890. But I can't find any records for him and his mom for this time. Later on the 1900 census Jerry is living with his Bessie's parents and her two sisters. However, Bessie is not on that census at all. Not even in the next door housing. But fast forward to the 1910 census and Jerry is living with her and also 2 half brothers.
So theres a few records missing here: 1. 2xGrandpa Jerry's birth records 2. Where was Bessie during time of his birth 3. Where was Bessie in 1900
I've searched on Ancestry and Familysearch trying to find her on other census records and birth records but have come up short
Any suggestions on other sites to use or if there are other records besides birth and census that I should be looking at? I'm pretty new to genealogy so all I know is the basics. I've tried the Library of Virginia website, but I honestly found it to be such a nightmare to navigate, and I just live too far away to go there without some planning. I'm not sure what to do or look for next.
Thanks!

2024.05.14 01:57 Comfortable_low-9876 #This Week's Top AI Tools Based on Category

I have wasted alot of my personal time on using wrong AI tools, so i decided to test them and update top AI tools weekly for the community which are not gimmicks and actually deliver what they promise. i am trying to cover different range and only include tools that can be real game changers. Feel free to add any new underrated tools you found that can actually help.

Marketing & Branding

  1. Waxwing: It give's you access to thousands of case studies and trends to plan and execute your marketing. It can be very useful cause it can help you create some good strategies based on your particular niche, it studies the market for you.
  2. Logome: Quickly craft your perfect logo and brand kit with AI. Its mostly beneficial for SaaS companies but still giving it a try wont be bad. You can possibly save some time brainstorming the design.
  3. Creatie: this is like all-in-one AI-powered product design tool. this is no-brainer , if you want to design professional creatives for your brand, just go with this. you can use this to design all your brand. this is one of the best amongst the competitors (my opinion!)
  4. Linearity Move: good at creating powerful animations. If you can spend some time in giving it the right prompts, this can save you some money. This is not new , but now the user interface is smoother than ever before. But this requires more input than any other tools but can be a game changer for your brand.

Finance

  1. IntellectiaAi: Smarter AI-driven stock research to boost your investments. Its getting better and obviously cant trust it with everything. But someone new to finance, this can be pretty useful and the tool has a decent accuracy. (AGain! its important to be cautious when using any stock research tools)
  2. AlphaSense: Finds trends and changes in finance. User experience is still not most friendly but if use it for a while you will get the hang of it, it can pretty much analyse anything and good thing is that it porvides many integrations so u can stick to the same platform for almost everything.

Web Design & SaaS

  1. StaarterDev: Save 50+ hours on your next SaaS project with its game-changing features.
  2. Framer AI: If you want to create a good looking but simple website. and tbh most of the businesses do not require super detailed websites with a heavy backend, so you can give it a try.
  3. Durable: web builder for fast site launches.

Planning and Productivity

  1. AFFiNE AI: for better writing, drawing, and presenting. new features are really cool! must try.
  2. Findr: Search across all your apps like Slack, Notion, Gmail from one place.
  3. Loom AI Workflows: Turn Loom videos into docs instantly.
And there are many more……
curated weekly most relevant AI tools, updates and exclusive opportunities (include Jobs) for the AI niches to always stay ahead. Here
Thanx! feel free to add more tools you found recently :)

2024.05.14 01:47 tictactoss One device suddenly can't load most websites on Starlink only

This issue is affecting only my laptop, all other devices are fine. It started last night on a few websites that I would get the message "This site can't be reached. Suchandsuchdotcom took too long to respond." and now it is virtually all websites *except* Google, Facebook, and a couple others, which load no problem. If I use my phone's hotspot, I can go anywhere on this laptop. All my other devices can go anywhere on Starlink. So it is somehow an issue between this laptop and Starlink that came out of nowhere, I didn't change any settings or download any new software so I don't see what is causing a new conflict.
I have tried clearing all browsing history/cache, resetting my network adapter, rebooting a dozen times, resetting the router, etc. It is the same in both Chrome and IE so not specific to a browser. Any idea how to fix this? TIA:)

2024.05.14 01:39 jesserobbins A historic product launch! Will Sonos triumph... or be historic like: New Coke, Jawbone, Rdio, Digg (*sigh*)

I have begun to view this through the lens of getting to watch a company (and individual leaders) I really respect make what may turn out to be a truly historic business mistake or triumph. I'm excited to be part of it! It is irritating that Sonos has done this in my home, with products I actually love. The upshot is, I am pretty confident this will turn into something others will have the opportunity to learn from. (Maybe even they can learn from it, if you they fast enough.)
What makes this a unique (and likely historically significant) mistake is that Sonos, who has extraordinary customer trust and goodwill, used that to do something that directly harms existing, installed, previously functioning customers, in their homes, with no action taken or required by the user to be affected. This is a luxury consumer appliance, not ad-driven business or something. Super sticky customer base. Impact is clearly widespread, although the most loyal customers with lots of equipment are likely disproportionately affected.
It's painful to see the years where Sonos has earned a much stronger market position also a somehow much weaker stock position relative to large companies that might have more of a "mistake budget". It's transparent to most people that they have a lot riding on upcoming releases. I have a lot of sympathy for Patrick and any CEO trying to hit numbers in hardware and beat the street's expectations. It's HARD. (it's in the name FFS.)
However, everything that has happened as part of this rollout has been an example of what not to do. Regardless of motivation or intention by Sonos, you have what are clearly a lot of customers who are feeling completely disempowered, disrupted, violated, and gaslit. You are quadrupling-down on this. From the outside, it looks completely insanity. (And, in the future, when we watch the documentary I doubt it will be portrayed as a moment of "courage". 🤣)
To that end, I was reminded of a few other are some other examples of historically bad product introductions that share common themes to this one. (note, I'm omitting ones that where people actually died like Boeing or the Ford Pinto):
New Coke (1985) - One of the most (in)famous examples is Coca-Cola’s introduction of "New Coke" which Coke itself calls "The Most Memorable Marketing Blunder in History. The company changed its original formula in an attempt to compete with Pepsi. The backlash from consumers was swift and fierce. Despite the negative response, Coke was initially reluctant to acknowledge their mistake. However, the continued public outcry forced the company to revert to the original formula, rebranded as "Coca-Cola Classic," just 79 days later.
Jawbone: The one that I fear is most relevant here is Jawbone - Jawbone, once known for its Bluetooth earpieces and fitness trackers. Their UP bands had high failure rates and syncing problems. These issues, combined with poor customer service responses to complaints and returns, led to customer dissatisfaction and alienation. Jawbone failed to and eventually went out of business in 2017.
Rdio: Rdio was a music streaming service that launched in 2010 but failed to compete effectively with Spotify and later Apple Music. Rdio made several platform updates that, rather than improving user experience, often removed liked features or made the interface less intuitive. This alienated users led to Rdio filing for bankruptcy in 2015. Its assets were eventually acquired by Pandora.
Digg: Digg was once a very popular social news website which predated Reddit. In 2010, Digg released a major update to its platform, referred to as "Digg v4," which drastically changed the site's user interface and core functionality. The update was intended to modernize the platform but ended up alienating its core user base who felt that the changes prioritized publisher content over user-curated content. The backlash was swift resulted to many people simply migrating to a little startup Reddit. The traffic decline was so significant that Digg never recovered and was sold in a fire-sale.
At this point, I'm at hoping that there is an internal document that was widely circulated and agreed to that says "We expect that, due to the current condition of the new release, there will be considerable backlash from our most valuable customers. We acknowledge that this release may irrevocably violate their trust, and we are willing to sacrifice every single one of those relationships and our existing goodwill if necessary to get this release out." If so, I hope that they are proven right!
Also, full disclosure, I bought a single share of Sonos stock last week to track how it goes.

2024.05.14 01:06 BlueBozo312 A stupid idea

I was recently playing tennis and one of my teammates was bragging about his shoes that he got on Temu for $3. The coach said it was a bad idea because people can steal your debit card/credit card number and use it for other things from those sites.
So I came up with this potentially even dumber idea: "Why don't you create a new debit card account to be used only for purchasing things off of these types of sites?" I said "Just disable overdraft protection on the card so you can't overspend. And only load money onto the card right before you use it, and load the exact amount you need to spend on the item you want. That way most of the time there's no money for scammers to steal on the card."
Is this a bad idea? I don't plan on doing this, and I made sure my teammates wouldn't do it either. But could this be a "safe" way to use these fake websites? Or are there still dangers involved, and if so, what would happen?

2024.05.14 00:50 GetaSubaru Buy/Sell/Trade Website for Tacoma Mods/Parts?

Hey guys,
I recently bought a '24 Tacoma and am a web developer.
I'm thinking about creating a website for the Tacoma community.
I know there are buy/sell/trade forums on TacomaWorld and such, but it's not a great experience to use.
I'm wondering if people would like to see a proper buy/sell/trade website for Tacoma Mods/parts (similar style to carsandbids).
Another idea I had was to create a site that lists new mods/parts for sale, but with links direct-to-manufacter. It seems like people don't like sites like Tacoma Beast who buy cheap products and resell for a high markup.
What do you guys think? Any other ideas?

2024.05.14 00:48 saint_leonard Currently, working on a python-script that fetches all data from a Wiki-page:

Currently, working on a python-script that fetches all data from a Wiki-page: the contact data from the following wikipedia based list https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_Genossenschaftsbanken_in_Deutschland
Well I think that an appropriate method could be to make use of beautiful soup and pandas.
In short: I think best would be to create a Python scraper working against the above mentioned Wikipedia-site: BS4, Pandas, in order to fetch a list of data from all the derived pages:
step 0: To fetch all the contact data from the Wikipedia page listing Genossenschaftsbanken i think i can use BeautifulSoup and Python. firstly i need to identify the table containing the contact information and then i can extract the data from it.
Here's how I think I should go for it:
firstly: Inspect the Webpage: i think that all the important information - of a typical Wikipedia page we have in this little task: - and this could be a good approach for me - to dive into learing of python-scraper: so here is my start: ( https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_Genossenschaftsbanken_in_Deutschland ) and on this page i firstly need to inspect the HTML structure to locate the table containing the contact information of the according banks:
So here we go:
import requests from bs4 import BeautifulSoup import pandas as pd # URL of the Wikipedia page url = "https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_Genossenschaftsbanken_in_Deutschland" # Send a GET request to the URL response = requests.get(url) # Parse the HTML content soup = BeautifulSoup(response.content, "html.parser") # Find the table containing the bank data table = soup.find("table", {"class": "wikitable"}) # Initialize lists to store data banks = [] contacts = [] websites = [] # Extract data from the table for row in table.find_all("tr")[1:]: cols = row.find_all("td") # Bank name is in the first column banks.append(cols[0].text.strip()) # Contact information is in the second column contacts.append(cols[1].text.strip()) # Check if there's a link in the contact cell (for the website) link = cols[1].find("a") if link: websites.append(link.get("href")) else: websites.append("") # Create a DataFrame using pandas bank_data = pd.DataFrame({"Bank": banks, "Contact": contacts, "Website": websites}) # Print the DataFrame print(bank_data)
The output so far:
Bank Contact \ 0 BWGV Baden-Württembergischer Genossenschaftsverband... 1 GVB Genossenschaftsverband Bayern e. V. 2 GV Genoverband e. V. 3 GVWE Genossenschaftsverband Weser-Ems e. V. 4 GPVMV Genossenschaftlicher Prüfungsverband Mecklenbu... 5 PDG PDG Genossenschaftlicher Prüfungsverband e. V. 6 Verband der Sparda-Banken e. V. 7 Verband der PSD Banken e. V. Update: What is aimed - is to get the data of the according subsides: see for example the first two records - i.e. the first two sites:

2024.05.14 00:41 gio_zarko I’ll build and launch a beautiful landing page for you or your client - No upfront costs.

Yeah you read the title might sound like BS but that’s the offer.
The reason is I’ve been a software dev for a long time and have a lot of experience, but I never thought of building websites for people until I came up with a way of making it super easy for non-coders to edit, maintain and build sites - it’s as easy as creating and editing an Instagram page.
Now, I’m going to launch this website builder soon but I don’t have enough case studies or testimonials to show - so if you’ve got a client that needs a landing page / website, send me a DM and I’ll help you set it up in just a few minutes with a beautiful design that’s going to delight your customer.
The site will be ready as fast as you can upload images, pick colors and decide what text goes where (I can help you craft good copy too, if needed). If you take on this offer, you (or your client) will be able to edit it without coding, and I'll prioritize your custom requests for being amongst the first to use my builder. I see it as a win-win, hopefully you do too. If so, let's talk.
Like I mentioned, no upfront costs with a free forever option plus the option to upgrade for premium features like unlimited sub-pages, unlimited blog posts, custom domain, etc
Please don’t DM me unless you're sure you need a webpage

2024.05.14 00:40 SelectionLoose6530 Is NF worth it anymore...ten month total pause time...comparing screen resolutions/plans...not really 4K...and other odds and ends...

Hello!
I meant to stop my NF subscription for a while because I'm getting bored (have been for a long time) with Netflix, but I forgot and missed it by one day so will wait another month and mull over my options during the meantime. However, I just noticed that Netflix has an option for cancellation only and there was no mention of having a total of ten months to pause service. Is this no feature longer available?
I started sub'ing Netflix back when it was mail-DVD only, I think it was 2003. I was late to streaming NF, which we began in 2008 via my kids' Wii. I can't remember how much we paid in the beginning, but I could swear it was $4.99/month at the time for 2 or 3 movies, or maybe that was the one movie option. If anyone remembers or knows what the price was back then would you please share that info with me just to satisfy curiosity? The earliest and lowest price I can find online right now is $9.99 a month, but I remember when it went up to $9.99 and had to think about whether or not it was worth keeping because it took a while to watch a movie, get it back in the mail, get another movie, watch it, get it back in the mail, and then get another one all within a month's time -- we're very rural in the middle of absofreakinglutley nowhere and the mail takes about 2 or 3 days longer each way for us. It was still great programming at the time, and the added streaming was a huge plus, so we kept it and have been with NF since...more than two decades.
However, my kids are older now, the platform has greatly changed, and there isn't much on Netflix that interests me anymore, or rather, possibly there is but it is too difficult for my feeble old brain to browse. There used to be a great site that had a database of most of what NF had, and it seemed to keep up with the monthly changes pretty well, but they haven't been doing that for a while now. Looking at pages of huge thumbnails of what is immediately current is a pia. If anyone knows of a site that keeps track of titles (such as a database), then would you please share that link? Something like that is much easier to use.
I enjoy many of the foreign shows, but more and more of them don't have English audio dub. Although I enjoyed subtitles in the past, neuro issues have now made it nigh impossible for me to read them while trying simultaneously to watch the show. This genre is the biggest reason I kept NF after the database website stopped keeping the database. So before beginning ponderations on whether or not NF is worth the $276/year, I'd like to better understand NF's steaming options. Although my laptop and mobile devices are 1080, my TVs and desktop are 4K or UHD. My ISP plan definitely has the ability to deliver the higher resolutions, but recently I saw a video on YouTube where this guy was talking about not getting 4K. I stupidly didn't write down the title, didn't save or bookmark it, and now I cannot remember the title or the channel or the person so can't go back and find out what this was all about. He did some digging and talked to NF and .... I absolutely cannot remember what he was saying, but it was along the lines of not only do we need to have the appropriate equipment capable of streaming and viewing 4K, but we have to also have the precise equipment that NF wants us to have. Please do not ask me for details because I have no clue. My memory has deteriorated considerably. Do any of you know about this 4K/UHD issue and needing equipment that Netflix wants us to use? I was thinking that if I cannot really get 4K (sometimes I know I do not but I thought perhaps it was just glitches with router), then perhaps it is not a big deal to jump down to the one device plan at 1080 since I'm the only person using NF in my family.
If this is the case, then I'd like to compare the viewing quality of a 4K show, UHD, and 1080. It is easy to find 4K, but when I search for UHD, I get the same 4K titles. I'm guessing that this is because the vert is the same but not the horizontal? Does anyone know? But if I search for 1080, well, that doesn't really matter. Do any of you know of a show on NF that is not the higher rez's so I can use it for comparison?
I'd really like to get this figured out before the next billing cycle, especially considering the fact that Netflix is expected to raise rates sometime this year.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

2024.05.14 00:09 Loudthunder34 Help with virus maybe

I recently got into emulators and Roms for old Nintendo games and made a mistake. I was looking for Roma and came across a site called romsfun.com. I am aware of the dangers of downloading random things off the internet and looked up the website, found a post on Reddit saying how it was safe. (It did however ask for an allow notifications and an am I a robot test from them.) I looked it up, I click on the rom link I wanted to download and got taken to the same are you a robot page. I was reading through it when suddenly I am taken to a page where I am told viruses are detected on my PC and an autogenerated text voice says my IP address was used recently. In a panic I shutdown my computer quickly. When I got back on I started receiving Mcafee notifications that I have several viruses on my computer. I checked with the windows virus checker and it said I was safe now randomly when I open google my computer receives those mcafee notifications, making it impossible to use google. Any tip, and did I actually download a virus or malware?
Also, I know little to nothing about computers so sorry if I sound dumb. Also if you come here to call me an idiot and stupid for doing what I did. Please don’t I am stressing enough already.

2024.05.14 00:06 thethreateninggeek Having tough time learning to analyze request with burp.

I used to hack with hackbar only and it was pretty easy back then find sql and xss but now i want to work in bugbounty. and this stuff is hard. also never used burpsuite in my life didn't even heard of it untill some time ago.
I thought it was the programming experience that i lacked so i learnt php and built a simple task manager site and analyzed it in burp, it was pretty simple but on a real website it is hella confusing with 100s of paramters.
For reference i used to be a script kiddie who just used tricks like site:php?id= and just putting ' and using sqlmap. So yea i am pretty bad at this but now i am getting serious.
Everybody talks about learning this bug or that bug but the most fundamental thing that i think everybody needs is the ability to analyze traffic in burpsuite and understand what request is actually doing.
So if anybody was in my postion and got out of it may be share some tips :)

The Sleazy Rise and Humiliating Fall of Ashley Madison
The 2015 hacking of adulterous dating website Ashley Madison was a crime, and yet precious few felt sorry for those who were impacted by this offense, be they the company’s CEO and his employees or the 37 million users who were outed as cheaters. Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal, a three-part Netflix docuseries from directors Zoe Hutton and Gagan Rehill, focuses on a couple of sob stories—including a popular Christian vlogging couple caught in the cheating crossfire—which detail the fallout from this headline-making incident, all in an effort to put a human face on a tawdry scandal. No matter the tears and critiques dispensed by those individuals, however, there’s little here to lose sleep over—unless, of course, your profile was in one of the two infamous data dumps…
Orchestrated by a collective that called itself The Impact Team, the hackers announced that if Ashley Madison didn’t shut down within 30 days, they’d release the personal information of all 37 million account holders. Thrust into turmoil, Biderman and his panicked companions hired Swedish cybersecurity experts Joel Eriksson and André Catry to track down who was behind this breach. Alas, they came up with nothing, and on August 18, the floodgates opened.
While Catry initially suspected that Biderman might have had something to do with the hack (because the site believed that all publicity is good publicity), a second hack that contained all of Biderman’s personal and professional emails put that idea to rest. More than just revealing him to be an adulterer, this information exposed the wide-scale fraud being perpetrated by Ashley Madison, whose pledges of cybersecurity excellence (look at all those award badges on the homepage!) were a lie, and whose female users were largely fake accounts either manned by company employees or by bots. In other words, most men were paying through the nose and risking their marriages, reputations, and careers to chat with non-existent women. All in all, it was about as big a losing proposition as one could imagine.
Much of this has been reported ad nauseam during the past decade, so Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal adds a human element by portraying individuals who were affected by the hack. The lion’s share of that attention goes to Sam and Nia Rader, a Texas couple whose seemingly perfect life as Christian vloggers was upended by the revelation that Sam had spent time on Ashley Madison. Sam and Nia’s story is told through lots of confessional interviews and their online videos, with Sam contending that he was motivated by a lack of self-esteem (and a longing for first-love excitement) rather than sex. Yet like so much of what’s said in this docuseries, his comments must be taken with a giant grain of salt, especially since he implies that, even aside from Ashley Madison, he strayed from the marital path for years and continually lied about it to his spouse.
Despite Sam’s anguished recitation of his missteps, Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal fails to make him sympathetic. Similarly, its attempts to paint the media and public’s gleeful fascination with the hack—and the cheaters who were being shamed—as unseemly and cruel are largely unsuccessful. Even when it concentrates on Christi, whose seminary-teacher husband committed suicide because of the data dump, the docuseries doesn’t get far in making viewers feel bad for taking “self-righteous” delight in seeing louts grapple with the consequences of their risky actions. In the end, the blame for these ruined lives and fortunes falls squarely on those who willingly chose to do what they did, knowing full well the obvious potential costs. As a result, Hutton and Rehill’s non-fiction investigation is most notable for simply shining a light on the lengths people will go to indulge their selfish desires—a notion borne out by the fact that Sam and Nia are still together, as well as by Ashley Madison’s continued operation.
