2024.05.14 13:27 Beginning_Stop_1834 My 20+ year partner and myself.

I apologize in advance. I know you probably get a lot of this sort of post in this space, and if it isn't welcome I'll take it down, no questions asked. I looked in a couple other asexual-related subreddits but they seemed pretty inactive, so I figured I'd come here.
For perspective, my partner and I have been together for 20+ years and have two children together, the youngest of which is nearly seven. Combined with our time before marriage, we've both been with one another for more than half our lives. They're absolutely my soul and partner and nothing about any of this is asking whether or not we should stay together, we absolutely will, full stop.
They came out to me as gray-a some time ago. In their own words, there isn't anything in particular that I do or say that makes things better or more likely for them to feel sexual, it's more random in their mind. I would say on average we are intimate once every other month or so.
My own brain has a fun little neurodivergent cocktail within it. There some missing social cues from autism, and there's the obsessing over phrases, conversations, all of that from ADHD. I have a therapist (have for 10+ years) and admittedly it's only been within the last year or so we've been looking at things in this lens, so this avenue is also new to me. And I'm getting more comfortable with myself (and admittedly my children) being on the ND side of things.
My own sexual interests are more than what my partner and I currently partake in. I can't put a hard and fast number on it, but I can say that I'll ask if they're interested, and more often than not the answer is no. My ADHD triggers here and I obsess over the why's behind that, what am I doing wrong, and so on, and I'm slowly coming to learn that it isn't me, I understand that. But it still hurts, to a degree, and I don't want that hurt to translate into them agreeing to something just to agree to it. More likely, the outcome is that I just won't ask.
I draw a lot of emotional connection from our intimate time, I've learned. It's less about the physical gratification and more about the emotional closeness that only we share. They've said they know that, but that only adds more pressure so I don't bring it up. I very much don't want to add to their life stress, between work and family.
We've been together so long. I'm beginning to understand/accept this is what our intimate life will be like. I guess I'm just looking for perspective, for any folks who have been in long term relationships with us allo folks, what helped you, what works for you.

I had very irregular periods in my teens, went a year without one at 15. At 20 they did an ultrasound, there were many cysts and diagnosed me based on that, acne and irregular periods. At that time I had periods every 35-90 days.
Fast forward to now, I’m 29, was on the pill for 8 years. Went off the pill - regular long period (35-38 days) no cysts, all hormones look perfect. I do still have some back acne.
P.S. never had any weight or hair issues.
I am wondering if something else was wrong with me and they misdiagnosed me or how else can you explain the things they diagnosed me on disappearing

I think this is more just to scream into the void, but I’d love some fresh insight as well. My mother has had a severe opiate addiction for most of my life. She hasn’t had a job since I was in high school and I’m fast approaching 30 now. My dad left, remarried, moved. So it’s just my mom and her mother living together off of my grandmothers disability and social security, who might I add, is increasingly becoming more mentally ill and unstable. Grandmother was recently institutionalized (not sure what’s to come of that, and I’m still processing since it happened a few days ago). My mom has no money, barely drives, and has no interest in bettering herself. I did my best to encourage her that my grandmother going away could be like a fresh start, since they were so toxic for one another… my grandpa who lives out of state and has enabled the both of them for as long as I can remember, implied that I will have to check on my mom and essentially take her to run errands until she “gets on her feet, or we figure out more about if your grandma is coming back”. I refused to do this, an argument ensued because I know how this will go… it’s a slippery slope. Giving money, rides, anything, and I will be taken advantage of to say the least, just like every time in the past I have tried to offer support in hopes she would get it together. I don’t know how to make my mom integrate back into society…. I have clawed my way out of a really awful upbringing ripe with abuse , poverty, and addiction, and am doing dare I say: decently now. I have a great partner, we own a home, and I’m the first to even graduate high school in my immediate family. It feels like everything I have worked hard for is about to become unstable again because my mother has no one with my grandmother being away, and I can’t help but feel like that scared child I once was every time I have to interact with my mom. Now it’s ten fold. I cannot take care of her, I have barely enough for myself… How the hell do I get her to finally take care of herself? I’m an only child, so the pressure is crushing. I’ve gone NC a few times over the years, and I’m wondering if it will get to that point again.

Long story short, I haven’t cut my hair in 10+ years. Why? Cause I have no clue how to care for hair. I just blow dry in the morning and that’s it. Information: I use shampoo + conditioner, a hair mask every day (within the last 2 weeks), and leave in conditioner as well. About 1.5 years ago my hair grew super fast, idk if it’s cause I just had 2 babies back to back but it was the first time in YEARS it’s grown. I was so so happy and I refused to cut off any of it. Within the past 9 months the it’s all gone and back to the length it’s been for years now. I know, I had ppl telling me to get a trim to help keep it going but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. My own fault now that’s it’s all gone! How can I get it back to long again? I’m 100% ok with doing trims now but is there anything else I can do? The hairs on the back of my head close to the bottom of my neck are so so short.

I achieved 1600(and more) channels for Action Relays by sending digital signals
TL;DR: I can send multiple different signals through 1 channel. The gifs show how this looks with 4 bits / 16 signals
I was looking forward to a (non script) way to send signals between Grids, since I started playing the game 5 years ago. With yesterdays update it FINALLY arrived! However, it only provides 100 channels. Which is most certainly a reasonable amount of channels, for a normal ServeFaction/player. But Since I am a greedy player, I wanted more so I can standardize my Channels easier. I don't want to have 5 channels just to open 5 doors, I want a single "Open door channel". So I thought about ways I could reduce my channel usage.
My first Idea was to send data over multiple Relays at the same time. This is a fast way to send data, however you can only send 2n-1 Signals, (n being the amount of channels used) since you can not send an empty (0) signal. So you still have to use multiple channels.
The second Idea is the one I stuck with. Sending a digital signal through the Relay. this looks like this:

As you can (hopefully) see in the very degrading GIF, I sent 4 bit over the one action relay and one channel. I can also send different signals:

The attentive readers may have noticed 3 timer blocks on the right that are kind of not making sense right now. These 3 Timers form a "decoder" structure. This means, they convert a Binary signal to a normal timer block action. This works by checking if the sent data equals the expected Data. in this case the expected data is 1100:

when the correct signal is sent it activates the finals Timer block on the right, using this you can trigger any kind of Vanilla sequence with just a single Channel. and not just 4 bit (or 24=16 signals): this is scalable to infinity.
now the drawback of this system is the time it takes. for every bit you have to add 1 second of delay, with an additional 1 second delay when sending and 2 second delay when decoding. This is in my opinion a fair tradeoff for the immense potential this has. You can not only send data, you can in theory even trigger an automated response.
Now I will explain how this works, but I am not perfect in explaining. If you have any questions feel free to ask, it will take me time to answer though.
HOW IT WORKS:
on the left side you see the sending mechanism. it is made from 3 components: Clock, bits and Reset.
Sender Basic schematic
the "Clock" Timer block starts the timer on all "bit" Timer blocks and the "reset" timer block. It also triggers "send signal" on the Action relay and therefore sends a "start" signal.
then, after the set delays of 2,3,4 and 5 seconds each timer block, that is turned on, triggers the "send Signal" on the relay once. after that the "Reset" Timer stops the countdown for any left timers that were not turned on. (to prevent any problems when setting the bits)
The Receiver side is a bit more complex.
it is made up from a clock, bits, reset and a decoder

At the start the bits are turned off. if The action Relay is triggered it triggers the first "clock" block and tries "trigger now" on all "bits"
if a "start" signal is received, the first "clock" block in the upper left starts the "clock" timers above the "bits". after 1 second delay the first timer turns on the first "bit". after another second the second timer turns off the first "bit" and turns on the second "bit". after another second the 3rd timer turns second "bit" off and the 3rd on. this is continued for every "bit".
now: these timings match with the timings of the sender. when the sender "bits" are triggering the action relay they also trigger all bits on the receiver, but only the bit that is turned on reacts. you can see this in the gifs: every bit turns on one light when triggered.
the decoder is responsible for checking if the correct combination of on/off signals was received. this is done by using the "start/stop timer" and "on/off" option of the Timer block. if you want to react to a 1111 signal, the setup is:
bit 1: Timer 1 start, bit 2: Timer 1 on, bit 3: Timer 2 start, bit 4: Timer 2 start
you set the commands in the "setup action" inside the "bits" timer blocks. Those two timer blocks then use the same principle to trigger the 3rd "decoder" block on the right. however since we also want to use combinations like "1000" we have to invert those signals somehow.
the 10 part is simple. when reset, the first decoder block is turned on. and The 2nd bits command are changed to "Turn off". if there is a signal now (01XX or 11XX) it turns the first "decoder"timer off and it cant use any actions.
the 00 part is where its getting difficult. We need to start the countdown of the 2nd "decoder" timer with the clock at the beginning. The delay has to be long enough for "bits" 3 and 4 to trigger, when a wrong signal is sent (XX10, XX01, XX11). when they trigger bit 3 is going to "Stop" the countdown, while bit 4 is going to turn the block off.

I'm sure I'm just stupid, but I lost more than half a minute (this is after I lost time from spinning) at Mount Panaroma just trying to get my car back in the right direction. I had this happen a few times in practice but in the race it was the most frustrating thing.
Is this just accepted fact? Or is there a way to get you car turned around fast? Cant flip the car by spinning the tires because I cant turn of tc and the car just doesnt want to turn. I made a dumb move yesterday when I was in second place with the 3rd place car 3 seconds behind. I was on my own and spun on the last lap. Normally I would finish 5th after my dumb mistake but I was stuck for so long that I ended up in 11th place.
I know that the best solution is to not spin the car..

This is a long story, so bear with me please. English is not my native language, so sorry for any mistakes. I don't by any means want to point a finger to anyone, just want to explain the background of our relationship.
I am together with my BS for 5,5 years. We know each other for 6.5 years. Our relationship started rather rocky. BS has commitment issues and didn't want a relationship at first. This has led them to cheating (kissing only) on me four times (that I know of). Three times during clubbing and under influence and one time while they were on vacation with family. This was during our first 1.5 year together. I found out and they confessed. They texted with some people and one of them was one who BS cheated on me with.
During our relationship they had a friendship with one of their coworkers. They told me them was interested in BS, but BS not in them. They had been friends before BS and I knew each other. During New Years Eve 2022 they said under influence: 'I met with coworker two times behind your back'. They said that I was too fragile and wouldn't understand them meeting with coworker, because I voiced that I was a bit intimidated with their relationship (they would spend long evenings together at each others house while being drunk and sometimes driving with their car). They met with coworker some other times and eventually I didn't hear anything from coworker again. I only met coworker once, they were drunk, but friendly. I went to a psychologist several times to discuss everything what happened.
Fast forward to New Year's eve 2024. I was clubbing with my BS, and two friends. There was someone who wanted my friends instagram, but my friend didn't give it to them. So I took their phone and entered my friends name. BS saw this and thought I was giving my instagram. I tried to explain what happened, but they wouldn't listen. They pushed me away so I went upstairs with said friend. The day after they barely remembered anything. I let them know that if this would happen again, I would leave (this wasn't the first time BS was acting not okay while drunk).
Fast forward to January 2024. We went on a ski vacation with friends. I had a really good connection with one of BS friends (AP). I have known AP for more than 4 years. We always had a good friendship, but it developed even more during the vacation. AP was very kind, caring and helpful. AP is in a relationship of 10 years, their partner was also there on the vacation.
Me and BS met a few times again with AP after the vacation, nothing happened. AP texted me beginning of March saying they would like to meet with me. I didn't say this to BS. We went for a run and had a very good talk about our relationships. They expressed their doubts about their relationship. AP texted me some time after again to go for a run. This time there was more tension in the air and they kissed me. We met five times in total and had foreplay once and sex once. I didn't know how to tell my BS, even though I should have told BS immediately. I made an appointment with my psychologist mid April to help me approach the situation. But on the 24th of april, AP's parner called my BS and told them they found evidence that we cheated on them. My BS' world collapsed. They would have never imagined I would do something like that and I completely understand BS. This is so out of character for me (I don't want to minimize what I have done, but when I go out there are people who will flirt with me, but normally I am very good at maintaining boundaries).
BS first wanted me to move out and didn't want to talk to me. But in the meantime we have met four time. The first two times were pretty heavy. BS was angry (understandable of course), sad and everything in between. BS was very harsh to me and told me I was a psychopath. Of course I understand that they were filled with anger. BS doubted everything about me and that I could lie so good. BS is also very angry that I, BS and AP met occasionally while the affair was happening.
AP and I cut off contact immediately.
I showed BS the mail I send to the psychologist that I made an appointment before it came out, but I don't think that it made any difference (understandable again).
The third time we met, we talked about the situation and how this could have happened. I had a meeting with the psychologist the day before and told BS about our conversation. I told BS about our sex life that was rather dead (I tried to work and discuss it several times before, but nothing changed), I told BS about our future perspective and that I was the one who always had to initiate talking about buying a home together (I lived in an appartment BS bought) and lastly our communication pattern. BS bottles a lot up and when BS finally says what bothers them, it comes out rather harsh. Because of that, I am hurt and it makes it difficult for BS to discuss something again.
We have met yesterday again. I was there for like nine hours. We discussed the situation again. BS had some questions and I answered them truthfully. BS says that I deal very well with the situation and that they see that I do my best. BS said that they feel 50/50 about our relationship. BS said that they don't know if they sees a future with me. BS says that I had the right reaction to see my psychologist again. BS, unfortunately, doesn't want to do counseling. BS says that they can block what happened sometimes, because the pain is too much. Other times BS let the pain come. BS said they miss me and still love me. I asked if I have to move within a certain period. BS said 'no'. I asked if they want me to move away and BS said 'I think it is better that you do.'
After the serious talk, we watched two episodes of a series and played some boardgames. I told BS that if they want me to go away or if it is too much, they need to tell me. But BS said that it was a fun day. I told BS that I am scared that we would rug sweep to much and don't talk about the elephant in the room. I also told BS that I am aware that BS can decide anytime not to talk to me again and that I know that one good day doesn't make everything right. BS said that they can see that I know that. I asked BS if they want to work on our relationship together, but I think this question was too early because BS deflected this question. I said I want to do everything in my power to make it work and even want to go to couple counseling.
When I left, BS gave me a big hug and we cried a lot together. They said 'maybe we can meet again this week.' BS asked me if I got home safe.
I really don't know where to go from here. I have hope that we can work on this together, but it is such a rollercoaster that I caused. Do you have any advice for me? Do I approach this the right way or not? Thank you so much in advance!

I've had two bad burnouts in the past 10 years, both lasted me years, both scattered my life all about the place. I've spent far too long in dark rooms and I've had to give up a lot of things I thought were key to my life. It's been rough.

2024.05.14 13:16 WarGreyUpgrade I once had a dream about playing a Red vs Blue fangame and another about a show focused on the Reds.

In the game, I was playing as Tucker wearing the aqua Meta suit (I had this dream long before Restoration was even announced.) and the gameplay was like that of the speed stages in Sonic Adventure 2 (only Tucker was nowhere near as fast as Sonic and Shadow) with hack and slash and beat em up elements. Tucker could double jump, perform attacks and combos with his sword similar to games like Kingdom Hearts and the stage looked like Sky Sanctuary from Sonic Generations. I was so disappointed when I woke up and wished it was real.
This wasn't the first awesome dream I had about Red vs Blue, I also dreamt about watching a official alternate post Season 13 continuity (again, Before Restoration was announced) where the Reds (Sarge, Grif, Simmons, Donut and Lopez) stayed on Chorus and got jobs as police officers and detectives. The series following their antics and adventures as they (mainly Simmons and Lopez, Grif was slacking off as usual and Sarge and Donut were coming up with baseless crackpot theories) worked together to solve crimes. I can't remember if the art style was in 2D or 3D but either way, it wasn't the usual machinima.
If I ever get into game design, I'd love to try and replicate the fangame in my dream.

Pecco, after an excellent start, the kind he knows how to turn out, was the protagonist of a closely fought race of outstanding character, giving everything, attacking and defending himself with the generosity of the champion he is, only at the end suffering the comebacks firstly of Martin and then Marquez. An apparently interlocutory result, but actually, in the context of a championship that is long and demanding for everyone, these are not easy races, in which knowing how to achieve the podium is essential.
Enea's fourth place is an important result considering the penalty imposed on him, without which, in my opinion, he would have been able to fight for top spot, which he would have deserved if the record lap for the race set in the final laps is also taken into consideration. Today I’m taking the utmost pleasure in our bikes and teams, our riders and our technicians, our colours and our wonderful supporters! My heartfelt thanks to everyone. Ducati Red!

Hello! I am looking for a new book, I have used the search function extensively and already have a lot of books ready, but I am also trying personal suggestions here :)
As English is not my mother tongue, the book should not contain too complex or complicated language. Preferably I am looking for books that are not too long, short stories are welcome but also fast paced Novellas. But no thick pills like I Am Pilgrim e.g.
Genres I like: thriller, horror, may also be absurdism, but I think mainly with humour and also non-fiction (especially when nicely written or interesting topic).

2024.05.14 13:13 woodss I tried 30 different supplements while healing my CFS/ME - Here's which ones worked

I've had two bad burnouts in the past 10 years, both lasted me years, both scattered my life all about the place. I've spent far too long in dark rooms and I've had to give up a lot of things I thought were key to my life. It's been rough.
During that time I've learned to improve my nutrition a bunch, (largely with help from a good specialist nutritionalist). I think, other than therapy, and redesigning my life, nutrition was the most important factor to my recovering my energies and health.
I've spent a fortune on remedies/supplements/trying stuff, but a lot of it seemed to do nothing, or make me poop myself. I'm sharing here in hope this'll help one of you.
Here's what I tried, and what worked for me (note, mileage will vary - we all start this pain journey from different nutritional states. I'm not a doctor, and I only pursued most of these under nutritionist supervision - don't take stuff without checking with a pro).

2024.05.14 13:11 nsjames1 Svelte 5 is React, and I wanna cry

I was re-reading the original runes blog, hoping that I misunderstood it the first time I read it back in September.

But, it made me just as sad as it did last time.
I've gone from (over many years):
jQuery -> Angular -> React -> Vue -> Svelte
Always in search of the easiest framework to write in that gets out of my way and requires the least amount of code for the same outcome. So far, Svelte 4 has been the best, by a large margin, and React has been the worst.
It saddens me that Svelte 5 is going a React direction, and worse, is going to be "hiding" everything that made Svelte the best option in some dusty docs section called old stuff.
It moves developer experience to secondary, in the same way react does, and puts granular ability to control reactivity in its place.
A few examples:
export let is superior to $props. In typescript each prop is definable inline making it cleaner to read and less boilerplate to write as you don't have to write the types and then wrap it in a type to specify on the props import. Instead devs are going to inline it in the $props definition and make the code this long and superfluous type definition, as they do in react. I also believe export is closer to JavaScript itself, meaning you're not introducing new concepts, but teaching the language.
$effect is just useEffect without the dependency array, and is a source of constant confusion, questions, and pain for react developers. I know there are problems with the $: syntax, but it's rare I bump up against them, or can't fix them easily. For most everyone it'll require writing 13 more characters for every effect you write, bloat surrounding it, and separates derived and effects into two distinct things to learn for newcomers instead of one as it was before. (I've never liked the $: syntax tbh, it's weird, but it is def better than $effect and $derived imo)
$state is just useState and although I'm happy to have better support for arrays and objects, that could have been done without the unnecessary function that bloats the code. One of the reasons that React is so hard to maintain as it grows is that it grows not only with logical code, but boilerplate. And all of the hooks are the biggest culprit.
So, my biggest gripe is that it's requiring writing more code, to do the same thing, for the majority of developers. It feels like runes were created for the minority who needed that control, which is great that they have a solution, but then thrusted down the throats of every new and existing developer by hiding the "old" stuff that made Svelte, in my opinion, the best framework choice for going lightning fast.
It feels like a design choice intended to help migrate react devs to svelte, instead of make good choices for the developer experience of svelte, which is what svelte really excels at. I came to svelte because it was the closest to pure html, css, and JavaScript that I could find which also supported modern concepts.
I don't know why I wrote this. I guess I'm just hurt, because I love Svelte, and I'm sad to see it mimic frameworks that I've been trying to run from for poor DX, and I needed to tell people who might actually understand, cause my wife wouldn't 😅

Hey everyone, thanks for taking the time to help me with this.
I'm developing a project thats heavily inspired by DUNE and the Tuareg desert culture meets medieval middle eastern vibe with heavy tone of stoner doom music as well as drone metal. There are heavy spiritual tones on the project as well, touching on enlightenment through the usage of psychoactive substances. There are heavy Political tones, class struggle/rebellion, religious and oppression themes in the project.
As I'm writing the story and developing the music and ideas/ideals of this project, I want that feeling of comfort and alone as well as this HEAVY fuzzy feeling that follows you along, trying to capture what it means to be walking through the desert, carried almost by it with a force that's kind of stronger than you, either that be religious, druidic, etc. One of the main references for music vibe of this project is obviously Dopesmoker by sleep, however there are other examples that I found quite excellent that match exactly the vibe for this. One of the other ones is Lungs Reach by YOB where the long distorted bass notes with background "synth" like noises really perfectly encapsulates the the ominous vibe I'm looking for. Another one is obviously any live concert of Sunn O))). The long fuzzy distorted guitar riffs really makes you feel like you're going through a heavy climate, searching for meaning and coming to terms with your insignificance, and finding comfort on it as well. OM also comes to mind, as they have really really nice melodic heavy fuzzy tones with Al fucking shredding. Main ones Iike are Bhima's theme and Rays To The Sun.
I'm making this post because I'm really in need of finding something that matches the examples I've given above, as other stoner bands sound either too fast or don't evoque this "despair" feeling, while others just giving too much power and hype to the listener.
Let me know if I'm sounding like a lunatic or if it's a bit hard for anyone to understand what I'm searching for. Thanks guys and keep on drinking that fat bong water and stay safe out there!

(24M) I don't know what to do. And tbh I'm nervous about even posting this.
I want to clarify that I'm not suicidal. I've even learned that I don't want death as much as I want to understand how to not suffer as much as I do. Though some days that changes, I'll admit. But the way I've been feeling lately is as unbearable as it is inexorable. Each day my ability to carry-on descends a step. I used to be able to handle my pain enough to hide it from others. I used to shrug it off, focus my mind onto something else, and deal with it later. But now things are much worse. And I'm struggling to keep it together. I feel like I'm really losing my shit, and I want to fully emphasize the fear behind that.
I can't sleep anymore.
I get frightening experiences. Either terribly torturous dreams that wake me up or sudden onset panic. My heart races fast just thinking about resting my head against my pillow. I used to oversleep, which sounds pleasant enough. But I promise you, it's not. I couldn't hold a routine. I didn't have time to do what I wanted/needed to do. I felt like I was imprisoned by it. Plus, I didn't feel well rested. I felt like I could keep on sleeping the entire day. But now I'm unable to sleep. I find this to be much worse. I average about 4 hours a night now, if I can. I've tried a myriad of different strategies to mitigate the sleeplessness. Either less or no caffeine, frequent exercise, setting an alarm for an early hour in the day to hopefully get tired later on, and staying away from screens for at least an hour or so before I try to sleep. I'm desperate for something. Medications haven't worked very well for me in the past either. Although, I've only tried melatonin—which is not that extensive of a list, of course—so I'm open to any suggestions if you have any.
My anxiety is worse.
It's always been pretty bad, but I just powered through it in a way. I could still go to the store and buy whatever despite it blaring in my face the whole time. But it's much worse now. Which, to me, is very odd. I spend lots of time around people. People I know well, people I don't know at all. I'm in public spaces a lot. But now, more than ever, I get so fucking paralyzed by it. To even walk into a Walgreens feels impossible. It's just like a constant buzz for me . There is no restful, relaxing, or calm experience to life anymore. I never come down from the stress. I've never taken anxiety medication. I don't know the efficacy of any, and I don't enjoy the idea of relying on medications to feel "normal". But I'm constantly in a state of panic nowadays. So at this point, I'm starting to not care about those sort of things.
I don't drink or smoke.
I've abstained from nicotine and alcohol for a long while now. I had a much longer experience with alcohol. But I never was one to truly abuse either of those substances. I used to drink for years, everyone in my family still does, my friends still do, but I've stopped. I recognize that my mental state gets dangerous if I drink. I'm not dangerous to others by any means. I just turn to self loathing and feel like I can't live anymore. So I'm not on any drugs, medications, or anything of the sort. I don't know how I got to this point. I don't want to be this way. But I'm noticing a progression of suffering despite the use of any substances.
I just feel hopeless.
I've been unhappy ever since I could first be conscious. I used to have terrible views of myself, hating the way I look, sound, or exist in the world. I don't have negative thoughts anymore as much as I am almost immobilized by a lack of desire to physically move. I can hardly think as it is, too. I'm forgetful and scattered all the time. Moving is getting harder. Even talking is almost impossible. I jumble my words sometimes. I feel so embarrassed when I do. I feel I sound ridiculous. Even to write this right now is very difficult. I just feel so alone even when I'm in a room packed with loved ones. I don't even feel real anymore. I don't feel joy or excitement. I break down all the time now. I can't even fake a smile at work anymore (luckily I don't work in customer service).
I haven't tried therapy.
I don't feel the courage to talk to a therapist. I definitely don't have the funds either. I've looked for some form of either cheap/free counseling but the thought of either calling or sitting in front of a person to tell them about myself makes me so unbelievably anxious. I don't want to be hospitalized, I know how that goes and I don't want that for me. I feel like my life is falling apart and I have no explanation as to why. Someone please help me, I don't know how to survive like this.

Luigi had rarely been happier to get home than he was as he returned from the gym. He limped up the steps on his sore ankle, looking forward to dropping into bed with an ice pack, a nice mixed drink, and that sci-fi novel Noemi couldn’t stop raving about.
Seeing Noemi had been the only bright spot in this absolutely cursed day, and the universe had even had to go and try to ruin that! He couldn’t wait for today to be over – surely tomorrow would be better, it had to be!

Entering the downstairs foyer the first thing he heard was Chubbs, meowing plaintively. Had he forgotten to feed her? Glancing up the steps Luigi did a double take. Smoke was pouring out from under the door of his bedroom, his cat standing nearby doing her best to alert someone to the problem.
Ignoring the pain Luigi bolted up the stairs, nearly falling headfirst into his room when his ankle buckled underneath him. Catching himself on the doorframe, he continued inside to find the table on which rested Papa Jack’s urn, and the candle from Beau he’d forgotten to extinguish, ablaze.

Luigi’s heart jumped into his throat as she saw the flames engulfing Papa Jack’s remains. Without thinking he started to reach forward to grab the urn out of harm’s way but was stopped short by the intense heat radiating from the fire.
Instead, he ran back out to grab the fire extinguisher hanging in the hallway, planting his feet and venting his fear and frustration in a primal scream as he sprayed the foam in a wide arc across the blaze.

Once the fire was extinguished Luigi was left with the charred remains of ruined furniture and his papa's urn, standing like a sentinel in the middle of it all. It looked OK, but he had no way of knowing if Papa Jack's connection to the physical world had remained intact.
Luigi started to cry then, giant choking sobs that racked his entire body. He gasped out a plea to his papa, to the watcher, to anyone who could hear him to please let it be OK, to give him a sign. He didn't know how he'd live with himself if he’d destroyed his papa’s only link to the mortal realm.

Suddenly he felt a pair of strong arms wrapped around him, heard Papa Jack whisper in his ear that he was here, everything was OK.
For a long while all he could do to return the hug as if his life depended on it, his Papa rubbing his back like he used to do when Luigi was a child. Big fat tears cascaded down his cheeks as he told Papa Jack that he was so sorry, so stupid, and promised never to let anything like that happen again.
When his tears were finally spent Jack invited him to sit down and tell him everything. Luigi offloaded his tale of woe and apologized again, thanking him for coming. Papa replied that honestly, he hadn’t gotten a choice! He’d intended to visit as soon as he could when he heard Luigi’s sobs, but he’d found himself physically pulled across the barrier separating the worlds, unceremoniously deposited in the hallway of the boarding house.

After that Jack went downstairs himself to get his son that drink and the ice pack he needed more than ever after his terror fueled run.
Luigi downed his glass of nectar and strapped the pack to his burning ankle but decided not to risk falling asleep on his papa. Instead, using the wall for support, he hopped to the chess table just outside his door, settling in for a relaxing game while they chatted.
“I’ve been very proud of your recent accomplishments” Jack began. “Tell me the latest on your lovely ladies so I don’t offer you bad advice when this fine juice loosens my tongue later.” Luigi smiled, always happy to discuss his favorite sims.

Luigi told Papa Jack all about his latest dates with Amaya and Noemi, not sure how much had come across in his nightly updates to the urn.
Jack was quiet at first, lost in thought. Finally, he told his boy “I’d say you’re incredibly lucky and unlucky. Both your girls sound great, but you’re not going to be able to keep the two of them fully satisfied indefinitely. Sooner or later, you’ll need to make a choice”.
Amaya was clearly a lot of fun, but it seemed to Jack that she and Luigi didn't "click" as well as he and Noemi. However, his responsibilities as a legacy heir meant he had to have a child. Was he prepared to do that on his own if he wanted to stay with Noemi and she refused to come out of "hiding"?

Luigi frowned slightly as he processed his papa's advice. Being in college it sometimes felt like he was suspended in a bubble, not as "grown-up" as his cousins with their full-time jobs and "adult" responsibilities, but that wasn't true. Time marched on, and his university days would soon be over.
He thanked his papa and pondered his next move on the board. Gazing contentedly at the ghost sitting across from him, he reflected that maybe it hadn't been that terrible of a day after all.
