What’s a reasonable temperature expectation when listing says no AC? [CAN]
2024.05.14 17:40 PhantomPR3D4T0R What’s a reasonable temperature expectation when listing says no AC? [CAN]
Here is my situation and would like some second opinions before contacting the host.
I am about 10 days into a 40 day long stay in an upper floor apartment for school not travel. The listing said no AC, which I assumed would be no big deal because it’s May and the lows for the night where I am located would be 0-12 degrees C, with highs from 10-20C (maybe 25 near the end of the stay) during the day. Why would I need AC right??
First week or so I am here, it got below freezing at night, was very cloudy and rainy. I did not have any issue with the temperature, it stayed below 20 inside. However last few days I have woken up to it being sunny and my apartment being 25C and about 70% RH. Now here’s the kicker, it reached a low of 5C outside and at 8AM was 10C and I slept the entire night with the window open as much as it would open and a 6” fan (that I brought myself) blowing outside air into the room all night!! I have to close the window when I leave for school due to connected balconies and being in the hood, so when I get home at 430 is usually closer to 27C. I open the window trying to blow like 15C air into the room and it only is able to offset the heat generated by the shower, oven and fridge I am using. So the room temp doesn’t drop much until 8pm, then it is able to crawl down to about 22C by 1030 and does not go much lower. Only for it to start heating back up at 5am I am terrified this place will be actually hostile to my health if the temperatures get any hotter outside…. I theorize the reasons it can get so hot are a combination of:
-piss poor ventilation to my room through a central system (heat through is a manual radiant system fyi. It is most certainly off in my room and not playing a factor)
-being on the 6th floor to a poorly planned old building that probably used to be office space
-knee to ceiling windows across the whole apartment that face east with blinds that are very bad at stopping convection air flow at the tops and bottom
-very old inefficient fridge and stove that put out a lot of heat with no room dividing walls in the suite.
As for how the humidity gets so high, I have absolutely no idea. I think the tiny ventilation duct (there is only 1) is bringing hot humid air from the rest of the apartment building. I am on floor 6 out of 7. I am somewhat conflicted because I am aware the room said no AC when I booked. But I also believe it’s reasonable expectation that no AC means your apartment will be at most 1 maybe 2C hotter than the outside ambient air temp. And differences of up to 15C and 40% humidity is completely insane. Last few days have been barely tolerable and if my apartment temps continue to increase with the forecasted outside temperatures I would like the host to either issue a full refund so I can stay somewhere else or deliver a 10 000 BTU stand alone AC unit. Is that unreasonable?
Thanks for the help

I'll post pictures in a comment.
I'm moving soon and need to clear out some stuff!
Green bowl chair - some screws came out of the bottom so the legs are loose, but it should be an easy fix. Good quality and clean! Wood dresser - real wood!
Wood-style large desk (plus swivel chair) Cube organizer - a little wobbly. Some fabric organizer bins go with it Cat tree - sisal is still in good shape Cat scratching post - does not stay up on its own, but good to wall mount or attach to the ceiling
3 direction cat tube (seen in cube organizer photo) my cat prefers the single tunnel.

2024.05.14 17:30 Sweater_Weather_Time Insulating Rowhome Attic?
A few months back I did a home energy audit with Greenworks to see what type of energy efficiency rebates from BGE I might qualify for and how I can make my rowhome more energy efficient.
Their main/first recommendation is about insulating the attic, which makes sense to me since the entire upstairs gets hot as hell in the summer and cold in the winter. I'm not sure there's any real insulation in there to speak of at present. I'm definitely interested in doing this, but the inspector they sent to do the audit didn't seem particularly familiar with city homes and kept referencing how things 'should be' and weren't in my house--presumably comparing a newer-built house in the county to my 100-year old house that's clearly had lots of different things done to it (often questionably) over the years.
I'm specifically a little concerned about the safety of the insulation with any electric wiring that's currently present in the ceiling. There's no attic access so I can't inspect the wiring for myself. When I bought the house I was told there wasn't knob and tube remaining, but that much of the wiring was a different generation of older wiring that was still in good condition. I've definitely found a few questionable things in the walls over the years, though, so I can't 100% say what might be up in the ceiling.
Has anyone done this semi-recently and is there anything you learned during the process I should keep in mind? Did it have a positive effect on how comfortable your house felt or your energy bills?

2024.05.14 17:22 therichardjg Is my uncles Victorian House Wall dangerous?
I am helping my uncle out, as his house has fallen into a bit of a sorry state and while he likes starting projects, he’s less keen on finishing them. He is also notoriously tight, and any necessary repairs will likely have been done as cheaply as possible (if at all). There are a few things concerning me, that I was hoping to get some opinions on. Unfortunately, he’s not particularly forthcoming on when/how long these things have been an issue for. I’m not sure if these are separate/interconnected or all caused by the same underlying issue.
Firstly, quite a few of the bricks have blown, mainly on the external side wall particularly around the chimneys (I’m not sure how long this has been an issue). I imagine painting the bricks was an attempt to solve/literally paint over the issue and knowing him has probably made it worse.
Also, there are quite a few cracks up the external side wall, particularly on the chimneys, and also on the adjoining rear wall above what used to be a door, but which was at some point replaced with a rather interesting looking window with a wooden bit below (calling it wooden may be kind here – it looks and feels more like some sort of board, and not something that would offer much support to the wall above) it also looks like it has a wood lintel. There is also some cracking of the plaster inside the first-floor room on the reaside corner, particularly above the windows and where the chimney joins the wall. One crack seems to go all the way through as there’s a crack on both the outside and inside in a very similar place (above the side window) but the others don’t immediately appear to go through.
There is also visible damp below both window ledges on the inside in this room, so maybe the sills are angled incorrectly or they’re cracked, or the window itself isn’t actually waterproof, again I’m not sure if that could be causing/related to the other issues.
Finally, I am hoping I am just overworrying/my eyes are playing tricks on me, but the external side wall does appear to bow very slightly outwards in the middle (smoothly with the maximum bowing at around the first floor level). If it is, it is only doing so slightly, and I may well be imagining this issue.
I realise he realistically needs a structural engineesurveyor to take a look but was hoping to get a rough idea of what could be causing the issues and what the possible resolutions might be to encourage him to get some professional advice. I am hoping it is mainly damp in the chimneys/windows that is hopefully resolvable, rather than subsidence, the chimneys falling over, or damp that has been there so long it has entirely compromised the wall, but I don’t really have a clue. The neighbours are really lovely and I’m rather keen to ensure that they don’t have my uncles wall enter their living room.

2024.05.14 17:09 anthonynoriega Senville Mini Split - 9000btu - Q about copper line length
So as the title says, I bought this mini split for the man cave. The way I have laid this out in my head is essentially to have the indoor and outdoor units right opposite each other on the wall inside and outside. The indoor unit is mounted up about 6-7' with 8' walls so figured that was enough clearance. The outdoor unit will be mounted on the wall outside because there is a fence right behind the shed and it needs to be higher than that to "breathe" as one tech put it. The unit comes with 16' of copper lines. If I only need, lets say 1' of copper line between the indoor and outdoor units, is that too short?
Do I need to use that entire length of copper coil to make this unit function properly?

2024.05.14 16:53 Nopani My legacy perks tierlist
I'm a long-time player who joined before the NG+ update. I had every perk by then and I played till my fifth NG+, cleared out the Orc Horde on Impossible then stopped for about a year before coming back with the new wave of updates - I've obtained every encounter-related achievement now and my achievement completion is at 97%, while my NG+ bonus is +1311% caps and +131,1% all resources.
These are my thoughts on what prestiges (or "legacy perks") are the best.
S Tier:
- Architecture of Titans - This building singlehandedly takes care of your wood and stone needs - including caps! - and also provides a dramatic output of tools, copper and iron. It's completely worth the 60 fame and a satisfying reward for beating one of the lategame bosses.
- Ministry of Interior - Like the Titan Work Area, but for gold and research. And it comes with extra population and supplies, as well as crystals indirectly through the extra professors. Only caveat is that it costs materials and supplies to build.
- Guild of Craftsmen - A must for the earlygame when the production of tier 2 resources is directly competing with your tier 1. It will fall off for the individual tier 2 buildings later on but it's still the first building you want to go for whenever you unlock the feudal age.
- Craftsmen - Tier 2 resources will be one of your main bottlenecks throughout the game, and these perks provide bigger and bigger boosts to them. After Craftsmen III it stops boosting tier 2 to instead boost natronite and saltpeter, which is less crucial to have.
- Shopkeepers and Breeders - This boosts tools, cows and horses. While the latter two are nice to have for extra money at the market in a pinch, it's tool production that puts this perk above other resource multipliers like Enhanced Axes and Irrigation Techniques. Tools will be a recurring bottleneck from the early game all the way to the lategame, and it's always a good idea to get more.
- Deep Pockets - We're here to remind you about possibly life's greatest joy of all: MONEY!
A Tier:
- Machines of Gods - Like a lite version of Titan Workshop focusing exclusively on tools, copper and iron. It's unlocked later and is less cost efficient, but certainly helps.
- Powered Weapons - This buffs your units starting from primitive spearmen all the way to artillery and line infantry. The early perks are the most important to get as they make your cheap, easy to spam units all the more effective.
- Enhanced Axes, Irrigation Techniques, Renowned Stonemasons - These are the best way to boost your base resources until you can afford deep runs and beat the Sleeping Titan. Worth noting that Enhanced Axes and Renowned Stonemasons lead to Woodworking and Stonemasons, whereas Grain Storage is already unlocked at the start.
- Regional Market - MONEY! You can think of these as a second bank. Probably the best use for your first coin.
- Resource Caps - These are vital for early afk play. This line starts weak but gets stronger and stronger. It synergizes greatly with the NG+ plus bonus, though said bonus also means you can just take the boosted caps from base buildings and make do without this perk. Though it should remain very relevant in your first few NG+ runs.
- Ministry of War, Ministry of Worship - Both of these greatly simplify core aspects of the game, army and magic respectively, with extra army cap, food cap, faith and mana. Ministry of War turns arquebusiers into one of the best units in the game, and Ministry of Worship grants extra lucky stones, and both of them come with extra jobs and population. The reason they aren't S tier is that in the lategame you can get enough army cap to clear every encounter (at least on normal) and enough mana to have all spells turned on even without these ministries, whereas the extra research and gold always stays paramount.
- Clever Villagers - The thing with research output is that it's not your main limiter until it is. When you have the other resources' production down, make sure to not neglect this perk.
- Library of Theresmore - This provides a nice boost to most ancient era resources. With 5 of these libraries you have a +10% bonus, which would've cost way more in fame if you were getting all the various Enhanced Axes, Deep Pockets, Strengthening Faith, etc. and you can comfortably afford up to 10 libraries.
- Monastic Orders - I agree with u/AGDude's description that "all of the boosts it provides make life just a little bit easier". It also has a lenient price scaling.
- Strengthening Faith - This lets you produce more mana and faith which lets you unlock spells faster. Affording an extra spell can be as good as affording an extra perk, or better. It's also a must if you like using Battle Angels or rely on Zenix Familiars.
B tier:
- Zenix Familiar - These are cheap, immortal scouts who cannot discover new nations and run on mana rather than gold or supplies. And they give you research. The fact they cannot discover civilizations may seem like a drawback at first, but it also means no splash screen will pop up and block your autoclicker if you've left that on the explore button (there's some exceptions, like the Forest of Markanat and the Demoness Castle).
- Hall of Wisdom - More or less like an extra school. Handy although Machines of Gods is a better use for your first Tome of Wisdom.
- Stock Resources - These are the equivalent of a few houses, farms and lumberjacks for free at start, which is an appreciated boost.
- Gift of Nature, Gift of the Creators - Also a small initial boost, this time in direct production. Lets you get a few buildings up faster.
- Rampart - Another good use for a coin. It's like a second wall that costs more but gives you extra fame every run.
- Enhanced Pickaxes - I find copper to never be a bottleneck and for iron to very rarely be, but it's handy to invest some points into these, especially if your army strategy is to spam warriors and heavy warriors.
- Fortune Teller, Soothsayer, etc. (Lucky Stone perks) - Nice to have, particularly if your strategy relies on getting that extra upgrade from luck buildings.
- Ancient Vault - A multi-purpose storage which unlike the rest of the category also raises your gold, research, faith and mana cap. Building 14 of them is fairly affordable and equals getting Ancient Treasury I and II + Service to Gods I and II.
- Ancient Treasury - Extra gold cap can be hard to come by in the early game. That said you will mainly rely on vaults and natronite buildings to get the cap high enough for the coin.
- Grain Storage, Stonemason, Woodworking - Grain Storage is good in the very early game where every bit of extra food counts - whether it's to send out more attacks, or to free up one worker from food production to something else. I find Stonemason and Woodworking to not be worth bothering with, as at my current NG+ level I can reach Architecture of Titans in fewer runs than it takes to unlock them, but they aren't bad per se.
- Elysian Field - This helps militarily even if you don't rely on Battle Angels. It's one of the few ways to significantly raise the food cap, and more stockpiled food means you can send the army out to attack more times per sitting. Besides that they have a niche use in getting the achievement for 15 Altars of Sacrifices, but that's very late game.
- Titanic Walls - These walls give you extra fame and - surprisingly - tier 2 resources. But due to how costly they are it's less of a "I must get this immediately" and more of a "When I'm already swimming in tier 2 resouces and fame, I can build these to get even more"
- Militia Recruitment - Like a second, more cost-efficient barracks with some added settlement defense.
- Free Hands - An average pick, not as good as others. You're better off boosting population through the various buildings you unlock progressing the game.
- Army of Men - Also average. The late perks are very powerful and they can help squeeze in just enough soldiers for a tough lategame boss on higher difficulties, but most encounters do not come down to ten extra soldiers and even when they do it's usually a problem of recruitment cost and upkeep rather than army caps.
- Battle Angel, Seraphim - Some people swear by them but I don't use these much as early game I have other uses for faith and mana and lategame they fall behind other units. It's pretty fun to summon a battle angel just to clear a cellar full of rats, though.
C tier:
- Monument, Heirlooms - A basically-free building at start with some minor assorted bonuses. The bonuses aren't very impactful, despite being costlier than Stock Resources and Gift of Nature, but I like to get one every reset because they need to be unlocked one at a time, so I can have the full collection when it's time for the next NG+.
- Service to Gods - Extra faith and mana cap doesn't do much besides affording you an extra level of the Fortune Grove (but you can just get the Fortune Teller line). It's pretty satisfying to clear the Mausoleum of Gods in one, two clicks on faith and mana though.
- Charism - I haven't done the actual math and whether at some point a boost to fame might be more efficient than getting the other perks to achieve faster runs, but I only grab this perk when I have fame to spare or have already bought the higher tiers.
- Hall of the Dead - Extra population would be handy but this building scales terribly, especially in the tool cost. It's worth to build a few, but you get far more value out of ministries, where population isn't even the main selling point.
- Undead Herds - Unless you like cavalry or are trying to get the 15 Altars of Sacrifices achievement, this is not that useful besides for freeing up some workers from the breeder job.
- Strong Workers - I hardly ever bother with resource clicking beyond my very first run. There may be some strats that involve building up a stockpile of stone, wood and food during the ancient era before researching feudalism (which removes the buttons), but in my experience in Theresmore the best use for an autoclicker is clicking 15 times on the wall button until it's built.
- Spikes and Pits - Uuuuh... neat to have? The best way to deal with enemy nations is by taking them out before they can even attack, and building an army strong enough to pass the age bosses is best done through the other perks. The later upgrades cost relics and buff the Juggernaut.
- Shieldbearer, Priest, Juggernaut, Ancient Balor - I never use tanks as the unit's purpose seems sorta defeated. They are meant to be low-attack, high defense frontliners but they are weak to shock which is the most damaging unit type and is very common amongst encounters. Shoutout to Ancient Balor for producing steel and helping me clear out the Orc Horde Assault on Deity, and Religious Colony-boosted Priests are hilarious.
- Coin Mercenary, White Company- Mercenaries cost only gold and die before the rest of the shock units. Canava Guard are slightly tankier (but still shock) mercenaries, White Company are offense-focused ranged units. They can accrue a respectable amount of boosts if you get all the Mercenary Agreements perks, but there are better uses for your gold, coins and fame. With that said, if you have Coin Mercenary and White Company you unlock the perk to recruit Cpt Gallard (who gives you gold) and after that you get another perk which unlocks a questline with a new building and new encounters.
D Tier:
- Mercenary Agreements - I just don't bother with these unless I'm trying to 100% the perk list. Mercenaries are simply too costly for me to consider.
F tier:
- Weapons of the Titan - Compared to the other titans upgrades it's a complete waste of 60 fame points. The units it boosts aren't my cup of tea for the endgame, either, as crossbowmen and heavy infantry outclass arquebusiers and men at arms once you defeat Nikharul and rebuild the fortress.

2024.05.14 16:52 MakeshiftApe Those of you worried it'll last forever: It can get better, even if it's been long-lasting! (Warning: Long and rambly)
I haven't browsed this subreddit in a while, but I thought I'd pop in and share my experience to hopefully maybe encourage some people here.
I experienced psychosis for the entirety of 2023, and the first couple months of 2024. Due to how long it was, having only dealt with psychotic episodes lasting a few days before (always due to drugs, that would wear off when the drugs were removed), I truly thought I was stuck dealing with it for life, but to my immense relief it finally gave way and ended in March of this year.
The full story:
My psychosis was initially triggered by drugs, specifically heavy stimulant abuse. I was staying up for 3-4 days at a time, repeatedly over the course of months, taking absolutely insane amounts of stimulants during that time, and basically in constant stimulant psychosis. I was hearing voices, paranoid my family were going to kill me or send me to rehab. I even thought that people from rehab were in my ceiling or walls planning to break in and grab me any moment.
I finally ended up landing myself in hospital after it reached its worst point and I called the police and fire brigade thinking my family had set my room on fire to kill me (spoiler alert: there was no fire). They carted me off in an ambulance, but the psych ward was full so I was just put in a regular bed with all the other patients and being still fully psychotic I ripped out my IV and walked out of there about half an hour later, not fully treated, with a $150 bill to deal with (I'm in the EU but on private healthcare). Regardless of the fact I wasn't treated, that event scared the life out of me so much that it was finally what made me decide to get clean.
I stopped the drugs in April 2023, but unfortunately, the psychosis did not go away. It certainly lessened over the few days after I quit drugs, but I was still hearing voices, convinced my family were going to kill me and that I could hear them plotting about it, thought I was constantly being monitored by cameras and spyware on my PC, and thought the neighbours were helping with my family's plot. Months passed with no improvement, I was terrified every day, and it was absolute torture.
Improvement for my symptoms all started with me seeing a psychiatrist in August of last year. I only reluctantly did that, because I wanted to tell the psychiatrist about my fears that my family would hurt me, so that if anything happened some authority figure would know and could contact the police. Once I saw her, and talked to her about my symptoms, I was put on Risperidone. It didn't completely cover my symptoms, my paranoia in particular seemed to be hard to treat and I was still constantly feeling like I was being watched and monitored - but while it was active in my system I almost never heard voices anymore, those mostly only cropped up if I took one of my doses a couple hours late or forgot a dose. After some dose adjustments I mostly stopped believing that my family intended to kill me (occasionally something would trigger those thoughts resurfacing but it was always temporary and would pass).
After a while I tried Haloperidol to see if it would rid me of the paranoia and be less sedating/numbing than Risperidone, it seemed to work better in that regard but gave me horrible akathisia, which was unbearable, so after a few days I returned to Risperidone, just at a slightly lower dose. The sedation and numbness was gone at that dose and it ended up still being enough to provide symptom relief (FWIW: that was, 0.5mg in the morning, 1mg in the afternoon, 1mg before bed).
Then in October I started seeing a therapist. I really can't recommend therapy enough. I truly didn't initially believe therapy could help at all, I figured since psychosis has a neuropharmacological basis, the only thing that could offer any relief was meds, and if the meds weren't ridding me of it entirely, then I was just stuck dealing with those remaining symptoms and my only option would be to try other meds and hope I eventually found something that gave me complete relief.
To my surprise though, therapy actually helped a LOT. My first therapy session I went to, I didn't connect with the therapist and they were very dismissing and patronising, so I booked a session with another therapist instead, and I'm so glad I booked that second therapist and didn't give up. My therapist helped me understand how a lot of my psychotic symptoms seemed to be a protective mechanism that my brain had, trying to protect me from certain things I was afraid of and underexposed to. I started exposure therapy, and started talking about my delusions and figuring out the reasons behind them. This eventually led to me starting to experience days when I no longer felt paranoid or like I was being watched.
Eventually, somewhere around December last year, this became the new norm. I was almost entirely symptom free. I did however still need to depend on my meds to keep it that way. If I was late to take or missed a dose, paranoia and even hallucinations would come back with a vengeance.
Fast forward to March this year though, and I ran out of Risperidone. It was a Sunday so my local pharmacy was closed and I had to wait an additional day to get meds. The longest I had ever missed a dose for before was a few hours, and that would always send me back into full blown intense auditory hallucinations, and sometimes mild visual ones, as well as deep paranoia like thinking my family were going to kill me.
But the day passed and.. Nothing. No voices, no thinking my family wanted to hurt me, no feeling like I was being watched. I just felt normal the entire time. From that point forward, when I forgot to take my doses on time, or forgot them entirely, nothing bad happened. I eventually spoke to my psychiatrist about this and she said I could start taking whatever dose I felt was right on a given day, anywhere from 0mg to 2.5mg total. Now I take far less, and often don't take it at all. In fact in the last week I think I've taken 0.5mg total over the entire week.
And no symptoms have returned. I'm not going to get myself too excited and say it's gone forever, I know there's a possibility I have schizophrenia and that this was one of potentially many episodes I may go through during my life. I'm also not going to stop my meds entirely for the time being, as I know that being on APs for at least a year substantially reduces the risk of a recurrent episode. That said, I at least discovered that a long episode CAN come to an end, something I truly didn't believe during the midst of it. I thought I would be suffering forever, but now I'm finally feeling better.
I thought I would share this story in case anyone else is in the thick of it right now and scared that they'll feel the way they do forever. It can get better.
If you aren't medicated already, I highly suggest it, and making sure to adjust dose or meds as necessary until you get relief from at least most of your symptoms. If a med or dose doesn't work for you, please tell your doctor right away and get it changed, don't suffer in silence!
& Just as importantly, if you aren't in therapy yet, please consider it and don't underestimate just how much therapy can make a difference. Also if therapy doesn't help or you don't gel with your therapist, switch therapist! There are so many different therapists out there with different approaches to therapy, you CAN find one that's right for you. Meds are what kept the majority of my symptoms at bay, but I think therapy is actually what allowed me to improve until the symptoms were gone entirely. Without it I don't think I'd be symptom free today.
Wishing you all the best in your situations, stay strong and hold out hope 💗

2024.05.14 16:36 BiiLLiiONx Shower faucet spraying water when shower is running.
| Hello plumbers. I need your help on a solution to this leak I’m having. Just installed new shower set up and I realized the laundry room wall was getting wet, when I opened the wall I see water spraying between the shower faucet plastic stem and the copper piping only when the water is getting diverted to the shower. When the water is running normally from the faucet below it does not spray out. Is there a ring I can tighten around the plastic stem to make it securely fit around the copper pipe or some sort of O ring to put in the back? Maybe should I just buy a whole new faucet? The picture attached is from the laundry room in the back of the shower faucet. Some help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. submitted by BiiLLiiONx to Plumbing [link] [comments] |

2024.05.14 16:35 Emotional-Salary-907 Ceiling fan wiring question
I have 3 wires coming out of the ceiling. Black, white , copper.
I wired ceiling fan connecting blue and black together and the fan is getting power (pull chain controls the fan and light separately)
But I don’t have control on the wall light switch. There is power going to the wall switch..but it’s not controlling the fan off/on.

2024.05.14 16:25 ameliadoesstuff Out On a Limb Chapter 8 - Alight
David agreed to organise another search party in the following week, and another in the week after that. It comforted Lee to know he was at least doing something to look out for her, even if she wasn't here to realise it. If he couldn't have Clementine back, something he hated the very thought of, he needed to honour her. Her promises, her legacy, her meaning to him could not be forgotten — and neither could she.
They'd been out looking for hours. Since they set off at first light, the sun had circled in the sky and come back down once again, painting the already orange gates with a golden hue. It was tiresome and their feet ached with the aftermath of walking for miles on end, but it came with the satisfaction of knowing a bed was waiting for them back at the base. Though, he still felt a part of him missing. In a way it was almost like he'd earned the right to have found her, how after all this patience and all this time, shouldn't he be entitled to that payoff now? He walked along with his small group back into the gates, down-trodden. How was he to continue deceiving himself of hope when for all he knew, it was hopeless? That was something he berated himself for even thinking. She had to be out there somewhere, of course she was.
"Open the gates," he called to the person on watch. The large wall of rust and metal creaked, revealing their sanctuary. AJ would be in the nursery, probably colouring wildly on a paper, anticipating just as much as Lee was for when they could retire to their home of the living quarters for a good night's rest.
Ava rushed out of the gate towards Lee in a hurry, not slowing down for a second. "Lee!"
"Hey, Ava. What's-"
"She's back."
He opened his mouth, to exclaim with delight, to ask where she was, maybe to burst into tears — everything, every sound and colour, seemed to jump into existence all of a sudden. His legs weren't worn down with fatigue any longer, and they called for him to start running. Where to, he didn't know, but he needed to see where she was. That's when he heard her voice again, something he realised was a greater privilege than he ever remembered, and stopped in his tracks.
"Lee." Clementine appeared behind Ava, leaning out to look at him. She looked at him with her eyes wide, her mouth that opened in shock turning into a wide grin. She ran towards him and enveloped him in a hug.
"You're back! You're okay, sweetpea!" He said, the words sounding imaginary even to him. "I missed you, Clem. I was so worried about what happened while you were gone. You- you've grown a bit taller." He could hardly believe his eyes, but they didn't lie or show any falsities: just, for once, the light in his reality. Ava smiled at the two of them, crossing her arms comfortably.
Clementine laughed, pricks of teardrops forming in the corners of her eyes. "I tried to get back to you so many times. I- There was so much going on. I didn't know what to do, I-" She hugged him again, burying her head in his shirt to mask her tears. "They said AJ's okay. He's going to be okay, Lee. He'll live." Her voice was muffled and shaky but pitched with glee, with relief and with joy. It appeared she was in just as much disbelief as well.
"I know, Clem. He's better now. They helped him."
"About time," she said quietly, though she smiled.
"Let's go inside the gates, come on. How did you get here? Did you have any help?" he asked, a million thoughts swimming through his mind.
She nodded. “I found people who wanted to help. Lots of people. The ones I came here with were put into quarantine for bites — they only let me out here because they knew you were looking for me.” Then she stopped in her tracks, both taking the time to survey the surroundings and glance at Lee. “You never stopped?”
“Never.”
Clementine grinned up at him. "I knew you wouldn't." Her smile then faded, but the glimmer in her eyes remained: whatever she was troubled by, she seemed to hold onto some hope, or at least she did now that Lee was there. "Lee, I have to talk to you."
"What's going on? Is something wrong?" He watched for her reaction cautiously. When she didn't move, he asked again. "Are you in danger?"
She shook her head and began walking further away, slowly down the unfamiliar streets of New Richmond. "Not here. We need to go somewhere quiet."
Something in Lee felt disturbed again. It should all be over by now, with Clementine reunited with him and AJ better than ever. By all means, they shouldn't have any more problems to deal with. Sure it was unrealistic, but hadn't they earned the right? It was like danger was hanging over his shoulder, eyeing his every move and ready to step in.
"Let's go to the nursery, okay? No-one should be around to hear us around now, and besides, you should see him." He placed his hand on Clementine's shoulder, kneeling down to her level. "He’s really missed you, you know."
"He- he did?" She whispered. The smile on her face revealed she had no doubt he would feel otherwise, but just hearing this was like the first melodic tune after a lifetime of silence.
He nodded.
She rubbed hastily at her eyes again. "Take me to him, please."
...
She sniffled, masking the tears she was choking back as she looked down upon a sleeping AJ inside a crib. "I never would've thought...I mean, even you, I thought we might never get to see each-other again. But I was always so scared for AJ. I knew you could handle things, but he was- he's so little, Lee. I didn't know if he could take much more." The drops cascaded down her face, and she turned her head sharply towards the ceiling to stop them from falling. She breathed in deeply and looked back at the toddler one more time. "My little goofball."
"He was tough."
"That's for sure."
"Lingard helped us out."
Her head propped up again and she wore an intense expression. "He did?"
"Of course he did. He found more antibiotics, and he's going to be taking them for a few more weeks, and..." He stopped himself when he noticed her silence. It wasn't unlike her, but this was a different kind, the kind that silences even those outside of it. "I know you have your issues with what happened, Clem, and so do I — but he really did help. AJ is better now."
She shifted uncomfortably.
"Lingard is a good man," Lee continued.
"I'm not saying he wasn't. But Lee," she said, eyes darting to each side in turn. "We cannot trust them."
He looked confused. "What?" Just as he had begun to fully trust them, maybe more than he ever had in the time he had been with them, it came crashing down like it had before on that night of the plan. He wasn’t sure what to think anymore.
Clementine straightened herself up, preparing herself to explain. "I didn't leave for no reason, and it wasn't by choice. Joan forced me to leave."
"Joan forced you? Clem, are you sure-"
"I wouldn't lie to you, Lee!" she defended.
He held up his arms to ease her. "I know that. I'm just saying that if Joan wanted you gone then how come she's allowing you to walk free now?"
"I haven't seen Joan yet, and I don't think she knows I'm here, but I'm betting she's going to have something up her sleeve for when she finds out." Clementine rolled her eyes at the thought of the woman leading communications, being one of two council leaders she wasn't afraid to show her distaste for. "There's a lot that happened while I was gone. I didn't come here all by myself, for starters. I came with a group."
"Where are they?"
"They're getting quarantined somewhere, but I don't know where it is. I found them in a town called Prescott, and things got a little complicated along the way."
Lee had questions upon questions inside his head. "How so? I thought Prescott was a good town; they helped us out with supplies just a few days ago. Are you in trouble with them?"
She looked him directly in the eye, lowering her voice again. "No, Lee. They're in trouble with us. Prescott was raided by the New Frontier and burnt the place to the ground — one of the men I'm with, Javi, had his niece murdered, and we have a woman shot in the stomach. That's why I told them to come back here, to get her medical help."
At last, something at least seemed to ring a bell. "Javi and Kate?" He'd heard those names before. "They're-"
"David's brother and wife. We all met outside the gates." She nodded, a bitterness taking over her countenance. "I thought with his family in a state like this, he wouldn't turn us away. I still haven't forgotten about what he tried to do before I left. Besides, I came back because I knew that if you were still out there, you needed to know the truth about the others."
"Others?"
"I don't trust anyone in the New Frontier except you, Lee. The men who attacked Prescott are up to something, and we need to figure out what's going on."
"Slow down, Clem. I don't doubt you, I think something is going on, but not everyone might be involved. Ava and Paul have always looked out for us. Even David-"
"You think you can trust David? He's the last person I want to be around. I'm sure he's got something to do with all of this. We could've lost AJ forever because of him."
Lee rested his back against the wall in defeat. "Clem, this is a lot to take in."
She nodded, but still looked impatient. "I don't want to play it safe anymore, Lee. We have AJ safe and sound, we can leave right now."
"If you're right about people working against us in the New Frontier, then they'll spot us running off a mile away. I’m gonna take us to your group, okay? I need to talk with them."

2024.05.14 16:22 lykwydchykyn WTT/WTS: A Pedal-licious Pile of Hoopy Homestyle! Drives, Filters, Amps, and Fuzz, plug'em in and feel the love.
Spring is winding down, summer's on it's way; would love to get a little cash to fund the summer fun (and the next parts order). Still, trades are always on the table. Don't be shy with the cheapies.
TLDR I got:
- A bunch of unique handmade stuff, including fuzzes, drives, and filters.
- Some 9V/12V practice amps I made from old speakers.
- A handful of cheapies
- A digitech Multi-FX
- Some bulky items for local trade in the Nashville, TN area.
I want:
- Just about anything related to musical instruments and music making: Effects, instruments, gizmos, recording stuff, etc.
- Or lots of other things not remotely related to music. Try me.
- Or money
- I mean, basically, if you want a pedal, especially a handmade one, and are willing to send me something of reasonable value for it, you have a good shot at getting it.
DIY STUFF (If you are NOT into handmade stuff, scroll down because I have some other items at the end.) This is hand-built stuff that I made, mostly relatively unique or heavily tweaked designs built on vero or point to point. Many are housed in upcycled tins, a few in Hammond boxes. They all run on standard 9v pedal power.
These aren't clones for the most part, unless they are; but normally I actually monkey about with the circuits quite a bit or just test out wacky ideas. If you want something nobody else has, you're in the right place…
I have the handmades valued in 4 tiers:
- D tier are my trashy cheapies, made from reclaimed components. I don't feel right asking a lot for reclaimed components. I value them in the $40 - $50 range, not really picky about what I trade for. I might even take dirt pedals for these. Only got one left, trying to phase out this tier.
- C tier are the cheapies made with new components. I value these in the $50 - $60 range, not very picky here either.
- B tier are my average builds, I will trade for pedals in the $65-$90 value range, depending on the complexity of the build. A little pickier, but still pretty open.
- A tier are my happy happy builds, usually more complex or just nicer quality. I will be picky about trades for these. (But still not Boutique prices; I have no delusions). It's probably less about value here and more about how much I actually want the thing you have. Think in the $90 - $130 range.
MOBILE USERS: There are 4 columns in the tables below: Name, Tier, Links, and Notes. If you don't see all 4, scroll over or ask for more info.
Fuzzes Name | Tier | Links | Notes |
Bazz Me Fuss You #1 | A | PIC DEMO | A bazz-fussified perversion of the Escobedo push-me-pull-you, featuring controls for octave and volume. This is the first unit I've built using my own custom PCB. Housed in a painted 125B with top jacks. |
Space Fuzz | B+ | PIC DEMO | This is a Hollis crash sync fuzz that I souped up with an LFO to modulate the filtesync frequency. Really wild flangery/phasey type gated fuzz sound. At the right settings you can get some octave-down effects as well. Housed in a ~3.5 inch square game tin reinforced with recycled plastic. Pretty pleased with this build. |
SwirlFuzz | B+ | PIC DEMO | Modulated octave fuzz prototype. It's an octave fuzz, but you can switch on an LFO to modulate the octave amount. Controls for Rate, Depth, Gain, and Volume, plus switches for waveshape and mode (Normal/Octave/Modulated). In a circular tin reinforced with recycled plastic. |
Baller Fuzz | B | PIC DEMO | Another Bazz-Me-Fuss-You build with an added BMP-style tone control. In a slightly beaten-up heart-shaped basketball tin. Y'all ready for this? |
Big Green Fuzz for Attractive Bass Players | B | PIC Demo | Like my bazz-me-fuss-you circuit, but with a big muff tone stack, a clean blend, and optional clippers for more compression. Housed in a big round tin reinforced with recycled plastic and designed specifically for attractive bass players. Unattractive ones may not really gel with this. |
Creature from the planet Chyowngg | B | PIC Demo | Prototype of a unique fuzz I've been developing that I call the Chyowngg fuzz. It's a 2-stage octaver that gives a bright synthy tone with a distinctive envelope (hence the name). You can toggle each stage from octave to non-octave mode for a variety of interesting timbres. Also has a tone control, but the tone control is before the octave stages so it results in interesting behaviors depending on the switch settings. It's in a tin meant to be painted like an alien, though some say it looks more like a triceratops. |
Dumbo's Bazzrite Fussrite | C | PIC Demo | A bazz-fussified mosrite fuzzrite circuit I cobbled together in point-to-point wiring style. Housed in a little Dumbo puzzle tin with GLITTER! Controls are for balance (kind of tone-cum-gain) and volume. |
Wiff Spwinkles on Top | C | PIC Demo | This point-to-point fuzz lives in the same neighborhood as the Harmonic Percolator, but has a few differences. I altered the way the gain knob works, and added a switch to toggle bass cut. It's housed in an ice-creamity welly tin. |
Drives, Distortions, and Boosts Name | Tier | Links | Notes |
Bronze Drive | A | PIC Demo | This is a point-to-point, transistor based overdrive I designed based loosely on the Davisson Easy Drive. Good for low-gain crunchy tones and plenty of output volume on tap if you want it for a boost. Tone circuit is like a BMP stack but with a mid hump instead of a mid cut. Housed in a painted 125B. |
Copper ZenerMorph Drive | B | PIC Demo | This is an experiment in zener diode clipping. Nice crispy drive that gets beefier as you turn up the gain, lots of good edge-of-breakup tones to be had. Housed in a decorated tin reinforced with some recycled plastic. |
Shining Hope Drive | B | PIC Demo | Differential mirroring drive, gives a kind of overdriven-mixer-channel distortion. Controls for gain, tone, and volume. Housed in a star-shaped Christmas tin. |
B is for Beast | C | PIC DEMO | This fun little drive/boost consists of two cascading MOSFET gain stages with optional clipping in between. It goes from clean and loud to massive wall-of-gain distortion nicely. Controls for gain, clipping, and volume. In a small heart-shaped tin about 4in by 4in. |
Green Sparkler Boost | D | PIC | Just an Escobedo Duende JFET boost built point-to-point in a sparkly little round tin. Gives a little gain and a bit of warmth to the tone. |
Non-Dirt Name | Tier | Links | Notes |
Quack like a penguin | B+ | PIC DEMO | Third build of the Chykka Wakka, a WIP all-transistor envelope filter. This one is built on vero, and features controls for Q, Range, and Attack, as well as toggles for Voicing and envelope smoothing. Housed in a smallish penguin tin reinforced with recycled plastic. |
Gift of Chykka Wakka | B | PIC DEMO | First build of an all-transistor envelope filter I designed. Built point-to-point style and housed in a little giftbox tin reinforced with recycled plastic. Controls for Q and Sweep, switch toggles envelope smoothing. |
Vortex of Funk | B | PIC DEMO | Second build of the Chykka-Wakka circuit, this one features attack, Q, and range controls. Built point-to-point and housed in a painted tin. |
BZZZ BOOP BEEP | B | PIC DEMO | A basic square wave oscillator on a momentary switch. Can go from bzzz to boop to beep with a sweep of the big knob. Also has tone and volume controls, and a 3-way switch for different decay amounts. Use it to simulate a spring door stopper or dying cow. Or bleep your foul-mouthed frontman. Or mess with the sound guy. Or send Morse code to the bar. I dunno. Housed in a painted tin reinforced with recycled plastic. |
Little Amps Name | Price/Trades | Links | Description |
Ample iMank | $65 | PICS DEMO | This is a Runoffgroove Ruby Amplifier built into this old multimedia speaker enclosure designed to look like an old iMac. Glows blue when you turn it on. It runs from a standard 9v pedal power. It's not terribly loud, nor terribly clean, but if you dig the classic mac vibe it might be fun. Controls for gain and volume, and a power switch on the back. |
Nosy Amp | $75 | PICS DEMO | Another solid-state amp based on the Ruby amplifier, housed in a repurposed bookshelf speaker. This one actually has pretty decent volume, even on 9V (can run on 12V as well for more), and can stay clean while getting loud enough for a quiet jam with friends. |
Fleur-de-Lis Amp | $90 | PICS DEMO | A tiny bookshelf speaker turned into a practice amp. This one features a class D power amp for lovely cleans, and a custom designed discrete preamp that gets punchy & crunchy when cranked. Runs on 9V but pretty loud nonetheless. |
Non-DIY Stuff Make an offer. I respect
Reverb Price Guide values, though I may lean high if it's a feeler.
Brand | Name | Condition | Notes |
Danelectro | Fab Chorus | Excellent | Cheap plastic chorus, but sounds great. Probably just a make-weight, too cheap to trade on its own. |
Caline | 10-band EQ | Good | Works fine, I just don't really need 10 bands of EQ. Has velcro on the back, and sometimes makes a weird noise when you turn on the pedalboard. Another make-weight. |
Ibanez | PH7 | Good | Tonelok phaser. Great pedal, has some glue on the bottom I couldn't get off, but works fine. |
BOSS | TU-12H | Good | Crusty vintage tuner from Boss. Still works great, but it's missing the outer case (still has the inner part). If you had one in the day and want to relive the magic, feel free to make an offer. |
Digitech | RP360 | Very Good | Great multifx, I've gotten some fun sounds out of it, but it isn't seeing much use. I'm just more of a discrete FX guy I guess. |
MOTU | MIDI express | Good | This is an antique MIDI patchbay and interface. It's pre-USB and uses the parallel cable (PC) or some kind of Apple-specific DIN cable (Mac). Could be used standalone, or maybe you're into retro MIDI setups? Comes with box and cables anyway. |
unknown builder | PedalPCB Cataclysm | Very Good | This is a really solid build of a PedalPCB cataclysm (Disaster Transport Jr clone) built by someone other than me. Pics here. Not sure what to value it, but make an offer. |
Local (Nashville TN area) ONLY Brand | Name | Condition | Notes |
TEAC | A3340S 4-Track Reel-to-Reel | Good | Cleaned up, oiled up, and in good working order last time I tried it out. Meant to do some analog recording, but just haven't gotten the time or space. Would trade for a decent instrument of some kind. Might even throw in a copy of Craig Anderton's "Home Recording for Musicians", which uses the same unit. |
Altec-Lansing | Power amp (9442A) | Fair | 300 W, 2 rack-unit power amp, can work in stereo or bridged mode. Last time I used it one of the channels was a little flaky. Couldn't be bothered to fix it myself. Heavy as all get out, I'll sell for cheap if you're local. |
What would I trade for?? I'm wide open to trades for music gear of all kinds and other items of value.
Some Priority Wants:
- A next level looper like the Pigtronix Infinity 3. Feeling limited by my current setup. Something with MIDI sync, multiple loop tracks, tempo sync.
- Boss OC-5.
- A reverb with a really good plate algorithm.
- Compact 12 channel mixer. Preferably a Mackie VLZ or similar.
- Isolated pedal power supply.
- Genuine e-Bow. Already own 2 clones, looking to try the real shebang.
- A multiple-MIDI I/O unit.
- A 1-U rack-mount mixer.
- Money.
Other things I'd likely trade for:
- Pedals, naturally:
- Especially fancy DSP type pedals (the kind I can't build), or a nice analog flangechorus.
- Decent analog pedals that need repair. Expect a lot of questions and not much value, though.
- Check "probably not wants" below
- Studio gear like mics, headphones, cables, small mixers, rack gear, etc.
- Synths and midi gear, especially cheap stuff like Volcas or Reface, etc. Really need a MIDI interface with multiple I/O.
- I kinda dig old casio/yamaha cheapies.
- Drum machines are interesting to me.
- Musical instruments? I play about everything, or would like to try anyway.
- I'd like to acquire a tele style guitar at some point. Even just a cheapie knockoff.
- If you've got a not-too-expensive Ibanez fretless bass (or similar), let's talk. I'll offer things on the secret menu.
- Also Non-music things:
- Unbuilt pedal kits, pedal enclosures, bulk lots of electronics parts, etc.
- Electronics/DIY tools or supplies (scope, transistor tester, solder, etc)
- Something weird and creative. Random items of modest value you want to get rid of. Handmade items that are giftable.
- Did I mention money? I do paypal and venmo.
Probably not wants (doesn't apply to C or D-tier builds, offer anything for those):
- Dirt pedals. Might make an exception for something really intriguing, though.
- Eurorack modules, unless anyone wants to trade me a whole starter setup (yeah, probably not, right?)
- Guitaamp/cab parts. Not really into modding that stuff. Yet.
- Behringer pedals. Just not a fan.
- Any pedal whose value is primarily as a collectible (Vintage, Rare editions/colorways/signature models, etc)
- If I can get it on Amazon or Reverb for under $50, I'd rather we bundled a few things to make it worth the shipping cost.
A Note about mods/repairs/custom jobs: Feel free to shoot me your ideas, but probably I'm leaning toward not doing these. Expect to pay/trade way more for something custom than what I ask for the pedals I've already built.

2024.05.14 16:10 hopefulandpretty Window treatment help
| Hello! I live at my boyfriend’s house and have been helping to renovate this room. I’m struggling with the window treatments but have been leaning towards a Roman blind. The windows are uniquely situated as there isn’t really a recess for blinds as well as the wall not meeting the ceiling in a normal way. Does any one have any ideas or advice??? I would really appreciate any help!! submitted by hopefulandpretty to femalelivingspace [link] [comments] |

2024.05.14 15:54 WoodenInspection6955 Room Hum fix
I Just moved into a top floor apartment. right above the bedroom there is the exhaust stack for the building A/C. The fan from that exhaust stack can be heard in the bedroom.
The bedroom is square with a large window taking up, almost, the entirety of one of the walls. I believe most of the sound from the fan is emanating through this window as it gets significantly louder as I get closer. The sound may also be emanating from the ceiling downwards as well but I am not sure. Will adding acoustic foam to the walls help with dampening this noise? If so, where would be the best place to put these panels. Or is there a better fix for this scenario?
I am very much a novice with acoustics but this is what I have tried so far. I have tried adding curtains in front of the window and It does not really dampen the sound much. This is part of the reason why the I believe the sound may be also coming from the ceiling.
Finally, the sound can only be heard in that room and once I leave the room it is basically gone (not sure if that helps). I would prefer to not put any foam on the ceiling but I am willing to put it on the walls. Any advice is much appreciated.

2024.05.14 15:54 Zoke23 What is this fan?
I found an inline fan in my garage, not sure what it’s for.
The garage has some gabled roof space above it that has no obvious ridge vents, the “peak” of the roof over the garage meets the 2nd story exterior walls.
My theory is that this is some sort of “attic” fan? With ducting to exhaust the hot air?
The fan is located in the ceiling of the garage in a small access space behind a panel, there is metal ducting running parallel toward the exterior wall and further toward the interior of the garage and I don’t know where inside the house.

2024.05.14 15:45 EvilKage360 Just some Mod Suggestions I'd like to throw out there for ASA Modders to use if they wish
Please Feel Free to add your own Ideas, and Modders Feel Free to use them if you're looking for Suggestions, if you do end up using an idea thank you
Named Split Tracks - Basically you can name each direction of the Split Track, and the name will pop up on the Directional Arrow UI so it gives the Train Conductor information on which way they want to go
Quests and Rewards - This Mod would give players Challenges they'd have to complete and once they do they get rewarded with an Item or a Random Fertilized Egg, there would be tiers of Challenges the higher challenges being more difficult but the reward being better
Scorched Earth Oviraptor Spawn - Basically adds to Oviraptor to Scorched Earth, I feel like it was an oversight by Wildcard not to Add them, their Ability to pick up Eggs Automatically makes them like Dung Beetles Essential Tames that should be on every Map
Scorched Earth Gigantoraptor Spawn - Like the Oviraptor it adds the Gigantoraptor to Scorched Earth, now that it's Base Game it should work
Multiple Oasisaurs - Basically Removes the Restrictions on 1 Oasisaur per Tribe Limit
Better Araneo - So I've always Felt the Araneo was Useless, so I'm going to Suggest the Following, Give it the Ability to Climb Walls and Ceilings, Make it's a web attack act like a Net Gun, Make it a little bigger, much faster, and more potent tranquilizing Venom to it's Bite
Better Scorpion - Like the Araneo I'd like to See the Recieve a buff to it's Tranquilizing Venom, and make it Atleast Climb up Wall
More Structure Skins - So the Bob's Tall Tales Structure Skins I think are great and the way they're set-up is more reliable than the Custom Cosmetics System IMO, I'd love to see Skins using that system for different styles of Architecture, like Viking, Greek, Japanese, Medieval, Modern, Futuristic, etc. the list can go on and on for ever

2024.05.14 15:42 sangle95 Small ceiling plaster job - Was the quoted price reasonable?
| Hi, I have no idea about these things so please go easy on me if I say something wrong. Basically i got a new light fitting and the eletrician drilled into the brick wall an 1-inch gap from the light switch to the ceiling and 4 small holes (around 13cm x 4cm) in the ceiling. Pictures attached. I got quoted £250 by two different plasterers but the job was too minor that the plaster came over and finished the job under an hour and left. I had no idea about these things but i saw what he has done was cutting the plaster boards into small rectangle blocks that fit the holes, screwed them into the ceiling joints then apply plaster over it. The plaster board he used wasnt newly bought material, probably the extra stuff he didnt use from other jobs brought over. Did I got ripped off? Just want to know and learn my lesson 😥 and be aware in the future. Thanks. submitted by sangle95 to Plastering [link] [comments] |
