Posting here because I need help/advice. I 28f have been with my bf 27m for 5 years now. My bf has difficulty holding down jobs. He was always looking for something better which was fine. However last year he quit his job and took on drinking and taking edibles daily. It’s embarrassing to admit but I stayed thru it all. He used insta cart and doordash to make his monthly bills but it’s not enough. I’ll pitch I here and there to help with his car payment. I’ll break down in bullet points bc i don’t know how else to tell my story.
Holidays: For Christmas I bought his family gifts and had him say it was from both of us. I knew they were getting us gifts and I didn’t want to get something without giving them something?? None of my family knows how bad it is. I’m really close to them and I just brush things off. I lied and told them he finally found a job but he hasn’t. I didn’t get a Christmas gift. But I gave him money. He took me to a steak house for my birthday. Paid for it. Then asked I pay back for my meal bc he miscalculated and needed the money. He did buy me flowers for Valentine’s Day. I bought us an expensive dinner for his bday. I will admit I like a certain type of lifestyle even if I can’t afford it so I may overspend on things.
Addiction: Recently he lost his wallet which meant no Id which meant he couldn’t go to the dispensary or buy alcohol. He ended up finding his wallet but I offered to hold onto his id. It was going well but one day I left an expired id with him so he could buy a beer. I left and came back 24hrs later and he was drunk at 5pm. He gets overly emotional and depressed when he’s drunk and I don’t know what to do other than comfort him. Before I would say I was going to storm off or leave him and that would send him into a deeper spiral so now I nod and try to appease him.
Credit card debt: I’ve been swiping my card for food and drinks for both of us. He uses my car for DoorDash which means I pay for the gas. Before he quit his job (he had been unemployed for 3 months before his most recent job) he really wanted and oled tv and asked I put it on my card and he would pay me back. He made payments for the three months that he was employed then stopped. He ended up selling the tv it was $1,100 he kept the money to pay his bills and buy weed. I finished paying off the card myself. I’m in such a hole borrowing money in hopes I can cover my ass until the next paycheck. I got a part time job im starting soon which should help me a lot. I make a decent wage.
Financially irresponsible: we went on a trip to the casino (he was still employed at this time) I booked the hotel on my credit card. He ended up winning $5,000!!! The first night there. Want to guess what he did next??? He took copious amounts of edibles and blew $3,000 of it on more gambling. He won another $1,000 and also blew that. With the remainder he bought a pc AND I had to beg him to pay me for his half of the hotel room. He did pay for dinners and lunch while we stayed there.
Promises: he says he’ll pay me back. I’ve helped him make his car payments. I help him with food. He says things are going to change. He paints this really pretty picture that I so badly want to be true. But it’s MAY 2024. He quit his job June 2023. He promised me Christmas he promised me my birthday gifts. All which fell flat. And now I just feel like a fool. He says once he starts working he’ll pay me back.
I’ve been helping him apply to place none call him back. He also can’t pass a drug test currently.
Relationship: aside from the money I think we’re okay? We trust each other we love each other. When we’re together we’re always laughing and having a good time. We get along. On weekends we take turns on who gets to pick the movie. He’ll watch twilight and mean girls with me.
The only thing is when he is in withdrawal or hungover he becomes easily agitated and needs space to calm down. The worst he’s done is raise his voice and so do I. Normally he just needs to walk it off or blow off the steam and things get better. He’ll hyper fixate on something I did and call me out on it. I’ll apologize but he won’t let off of it when he gets like that there is nothing I can say to change things. In my mind if I did something wrong I get it I’m sorry but there’s nothing I can do to change it? But if he lies or does something he brushes it off and gets upset with me for being upset at his lying?! He’s a terrible texter and never answers his phone. If I needed immediate help I’d be out of luck. But I always have to be there for him. Let’s say he’s having a bad day he needs me there and wants me there. I have to drop everything and if I don’t he feels bad and guilt trips me.

BigCommerce is exploring a sale after attracting takeover interest, according to sources who chose to remain anonymous due to the confidentiality of the information. The sources said that BigCommerce asked investment bank Qatalyst Partners to solicit interest from potential buyers that include private equity firms, but that the discussions are at an early stage and no deal is certain.

Squarespace announced that it will be going private in a $6.9B all-cash deal with private-equity firm Permira, who agreed to pay $44 per share (a roughly 30% premium). Although Squarespace never lost 90% of its share price like BigCommerce, it has experienced a tumultuous time on the market since its IPO in May 2021 — opening around $49.50 and at times trading in the low $20s. Shares rose nearly 13% to $43 in pre-market trading upon release of the news.

ByteDance filed a lawsuit in US federal court seeking to block the new law that would force the sale or ban of the app within the country. The lawsuit challenges the law on constitutional grounds, also citing commercial, technical, and legal hurdles, as well as opposition from Beijing. Legal experts say the legal battle will play out in the courts in coming months and likely will reach the Supreme Court.

OpenAI unveiled its newest model, GPT-4o, designed to turn ChatGPT into a digital personal assistant that can engage in real-time, spoken conversations and interact with users using text, screenshots, photos, documents, and charts. The new version of ChatGPT also has memory capabilities, which means it can learn from previous conversations. It will be available to both unpaid and premium customers alike. OpenAI also announced that it would be launching a desktop app with the GPT-4o capabilities, giving users another platform to interact with the technology outside of a web browser.

Amazon launched in South Africa last week, marking its first marketplace in sub-Saharan Africa, and bringing its total number of marketplaces worldwide to 22. To launch the new marketplace, Amazon is offering free delivery on first orders and on subsequent orders above R500 (about $27), access to 3,000 pick-up points, status updates via WhatsApp to track orders, 30 day refunds, and 24/7 customer support. The marketplace was supposed to launch in the country in 2023, but got delayed due to changes in priorities within Amazon.

In an unlikely partnership, Instacart is partnering with Uber Eats to expand into the restaurant delivery business. Instacart will add a new tab for restaurant delivery to its app in the coming weeks, the listings will be provided by Uber, and the food will be picked up and delivered by Uber Eats drivers. Customers will receive the same prices on both apps and Instacart will receive an affiliate commission on orders. It's a strange partnership though given that Instacart and Uber Eats actively compete on grocery delivery. Are they planning to merge? Uber says no.

Apple's advertisement for its latest iPad Pro sparked criticism for showing an animation of musical instruments, paint cans, cameras, record players, and other symbols of creativity being crushed by a giant machine, with the output being the new iPad Pro, which the company says is the thinnest Apple product ever. In this context, “crushing” was supposed to symbolize “consolidating” and “compacting” — with the visuals meant to showcase how the new iPad Pro puts the power of all these tools into the hands of creators in one thin device. However online commenters criticized the ad as insensitive and as symbolizing a “destruction of the human experience.” The ad hit the web on Tuesday, and by Thursday, Apple issued a mea culpa and apologized for the campaign.

Google is encouraging merchants to enable conversion annotations on their Google Shopping ads, which offer social proof that highlight a product's popularity. Conversion annotations like “best selling” or “3K shopped here recently” would provide visual cues about a product’s popularity or sales performance directly in the ad unit. Annotations like these are par for the course with e-commerce retailers including Amazon, Walmart, and Temu, which all employ similar tactics. They can provide valuable info for shoppers and also help with conversions. However they also open data privacy concerns, given that Google is not the actual retailer or marketplace selling the items, so a merchant would have to share this purchase history data from their e-commerce platform with Google — which technically most already do by giving access to GA4.

Shein is attempting to join the National Retail Federation as it pursues regulatory approval to go public in the US. The company believes that NRF membership would boost its chances of receiving SEC approval. However so far, Shein has been rejected numerous times. An anonymous source familiar with the matter said someone with heavy influence at the NRF is strongly against the Shein's admittance. However board members who spoke to CNBC said that Shein's membership application hadn't come up in meetings, and that they aren't involved in deciding which companies are granted access.

Amazon is leading the way with selling home goods, capturing 18.8% of consumer home furnishings spending, compared to Walmart's 7.3% market share. Notably, Amazon’s gains in the furniture category come in spite of the company’s decision to phase out two of its three furniture brands last year.

Stanley, which is projected to do $750M in sales this year, up from $73M in 2019, after seeing its water bottles become a status symbol thanks to TikTok, is now expanding into trendier accessories. The company is launching a line of bags called the All-Day Collection which include a mini cooler, backpack cooler, and Quencher Carry-All, designed for someone to sling their Stanley over their hip.

Jack Dorsey left the Bluesky board and deleted his account on the service he helped kickstart, claiming that Bluesky was “literally repeating all the mistakes” he made while running Twitter. Dorsey says he never intended Bluesky to be an independent company, but rather, an open source protocol that Twitter was supposed to be the first client of. He also confirmed that he is financially backing Nostr, another decentralized Twitter-like service popular among crypto enthusiasts and run by an anonymous founder.

Amazon is deploying 50 electric trucks in California, which it claims is the largest EV fleet in the country, as part of its mission to eliminate pollution from its global operations. The trucks will be integrated into first-mile operations, moving goods from container ships at the ports to fulfillment centers, as well as middle-mile operations, transporting packages from fulfillment centers to delivery centers.

Wix launched a new tool called AI Portfolio Creator, which allows a user to upload and organize large-scale image collections, select the type of portfolio they want, and then have the AI tool sort and generate a portfolio with clustered images, recommended titles and descriptions, and personalized layout options.

Amazon is now requiring all dietary supplements to be verified by a third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization — which is something that not even the FDA requires. Amazon is the largest supplement retailer in the US ahead of Walmart and Target, and its new requirements are expected to put more pressure on the industry, which is being scrutinized more than ever.

Alibaba is revamping its flagship retail website Taobao for the first time in seven years with a focus on providing a smoother search and buying process. The website overhaul comes ahead of the 618 sales event, China's second-largest annual shopping event. A few weeks ago I reported that Eddie Wu, the CEO of Alibaba Group, would now be directly overseeing its domestic e-commerce arm which includes Taobao and Tmall Group, and it sounds like he's hitting the ground running with his new responsibilities.

Amazon is hosting its first-ever Amazon Book Sale, a new shopping event starting on May 15th that offers up to 50% off print best sellers and up to 80% off Kindle Books. The six day shopping event will exclusively run in the US, and Prime-membership is not required to take advantage of the deals.

FTX reported that nearly all of its customers will receive the money back that they are owed, two years after the cryptocurrency exchange imploded. The company owes about $11.2B to its customers and estimates that it has between $14.5B and $16.3B to distribute to them. The caveat is that customers will receive the USD value of their holdings at the time of the exchange collapse, and not the actual crypto holdings themselves, which means that they'll miss out on all gains during the past two years during which BTC went from around $16k to now over $60k. Better than nothing though, that's for sure.

800,000 consumers in Europe and the US were duped into sharing card details and other sensitive personal data with a network of fake online designer shops operated from China, which comprised one of the largest scams of its kind with 76,000 fake websites created. The scammers used expired domains to host its fake shops in order to help avoid detection by websites or brand owners, and more than 1M orders were processed in the past three years alone.

Beyond Inc, which owns Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock, and Zulily, reported that its Q1 net loss swelled to $72M from $10M a year ago, while its operating loss widened to $58M from $8M. The company's active customers grew to 6M, up 26% from nearly 5M a year ago, however, its average order value dropped to $173 from $220 a year earlier.

TikTok will begin automatically labeling AI generated content when it is uploaded from certain platforms like DALL.E 3, Adobe Firefly, Photoshop, and Microsoft Copilot. TikTok will also start attaching Content Credentials to content, which will remain on the media when downloaded, allowing other platforms to read the metadata.

eBay is testing an Add To Cart button in search results that opens a Quick View window, allowing buyers to skip the listing page. Technically the button should probably not be labeled “Add To Cart” since it doesn't perform that action, but rather, displays a quick view window with three buttons: Buy It Now, Add To Cart, View All Details. Sellers are worried that buyers will miss crucial details in the product description that may lead to increased returns and negative feedback.

Amazon is planning to launch its fleet of drones in Tolleson, Arizona, but the city's extreme temperature is hampering its efforts. Drones can't operate in temperatures exceeding 104 degrees Fahrenheit, a temperature that Tolleson crosses for a full three months of the year.

A US district judge dismissed X's lawsuit against Bright Data, a data-scraping company accused of improperly accessing X system and violating X terms and state laws when scraping and selling data. The judge basically said that if X owned the data, it could perhaps argue that it has exclusive rights to control it, but then X wouldn't be able to enjoy the safe harbor of Section 230, which allows the platform to avoid liability for third-party content. Can't have it both ways!

Nintendo is discontinuing its X integration for the switch on June 10th, which means users will no longer be able to post screenshots or videos to the platform from their device. The drop in support also affects games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which had game-specific options to send out tweets. Microsoft Xbox dropped support for X in April 2023 and Sony Playstation dropped the service in October 2023 due to the increase in X's API access fees.

Amazon claimed that its recordable incident rate — a metric that comprises all injuries requiring “more than basic first-aid treatment” — at its US warehouses has improved by 24% since 2019. However the National Employment Law Project challenged Amazon's injury data in a report last week, claiming that Amazon's overall injury rate in 2023 was 71% higher than that of other employers in the sector at 6.5 cases per 100 workers.

Amazon Ads announced three new advertising formats for streaming TV including shoppable carousel ads, interactive pause ads, and interactive trivia ads. Amazon did not say when the new ad types would officially launch, but noted that it will formally present them at a presentation on May 14th.

The European Parliament announced new measures to make packaging more sustainable and reduce packaging waste in the EU, including reduction targets of 15% by 2040 — which sounds far away but is only 16 years away?! As part of the new rules, the EU will set maximum empty space ratios for e-commerce transportation, ban certain single-use plastic packaging types, and beverage distributors and take-away food will have to offer consumers the option of bringing their own container.

Target is limiting its Pride Month collection to select stores this year instead of rolling out the merchandise nationwide like it typically has for the past decade, due to backlash the retailer experienced last year. Last May customers in certain stores knocked down LGBTQ+ merchandise displays, angrily approached store employees, and posted threatening videos on social media from inside the stores.

E-commerce spending from Jan 1 to April 30, 2024 rose 7% YoY to $331.6B, according to Adobe Analytics. One trend Adobe identified during the period is a shift of online spending to purchasing the cheapest goods across personal care, electronics, apparel, home & garden, furniture, and grocery.

Overall thoughts: I enjoyed the fun of going through the boxes to see what I got. The Walmart one is no great loss to anyone not able to get one. I was disappointed with the Amazon one because I expected it to be a bit better based on what others had gotten. Plus I didn’t get the Dude Wipes people were getting and I was looking forward to them lol. The Babylist box was the best of the bunch, which is good considering the hoops you have to jump through to get it. Hey Milestone was great for the butt paste and bottle alone. I was also really pleased with the Target bag. These are just the things I got and each box/bag may be different.

For context, I’m a 25yo female, that comes from a mixed background (my mother 56F is a white woman from southern Europe, my father is from the Balkans and migrated to my country when he was younger). This is relevant and you will understand later.
I moved away from home as soon as I could when I was 18 after a not so good childhood, and currently live in another European country. My parents are divorced, my father is not really in the picture, I keep in touch with my mother on a daily basis and come visit her and the rest of the family once or twice a year. We never had the best relationship but since I moved out it improved a lot. I’d say we get along better when I’m far away from home.
Anyway, back to the reason of this post. I’ve been seeing this guy for more than a year, he’s great, we’re slowly getting to know each other and see where this is going. We are not in a rush but of course this is a relationship and I felt it was time to tell something more to my mother. I’ve always been quite open about my relationships and people I was dating, however since getting older I started being more private as I don’t think it would be good to mention every failed date to my mother (lol). We come from a typical small town in southern Europe, where people are bigots and close-minded. The news on the tv are constantly complaining about immigrants coming to our country and jadajadajada. The government is mostly right wing. So yeah, I didn’t really mentioned much about this guy, first of all cause I’m trying to keep it private but also because I could imagine her reaction, since she’s the standard average middle age woman that you find on Facebook without much culture. She is ignorant not as an insult but as in the real sense of the word: she ignores, she doesn’t inform herself and just believes whatever the media tells her.
Anyway, she suspected I was seeing someone for a while, I never really said much but I’ve been giving her a few hints in the past weeks and now that I came back to my hometown for a week she started being very curious. The day after I arrived we were casually talking before bed and she just kept asking “C’mon, don’t you have a pic of this guy? Show me! C’mon c’mon! I’m your mother!” so, one side of me didn’t wanna show her, the other one was excited cause at the end of the day I’m proud of my relationship and I was happy to tell her more (maybe naively hoping for a good outcome…). So without thinking much I showed her one of the best pictures of him. Literally in the millisecond while I was showing her the picture she said something like: “hope it’s not a n****” (WHATTT???).
At that point the phone was already on her face. It was done. She said it, and at the same time she saw the picture. She was speechless and I was too. I was ashamed of her. And sad.
She didn’t say anything more for the following 10 minutes, she went to her room and I went to mine. Afterwards she just asked “does he even work?!” And I told her “don’t worry about it, he’s better off than the both of us” just to make her shut up about that question that I found so disrespectful. This made me just so sad, and disappointed.
But the worst had yet to come. We didn’t speak much about it at all until today.
We were having a casual conversation during the afternoon when the relationship topic came out. In particular, we were talking about how your partner should improve your life and not making it worse, meaning he should make you happy, he should bring good positive vibes, get along etc. that’s what I was thinking and referring to. But she started being very materialistic, she asked me “so, in which way is he improving your life?!” in a very aggressive sassy tone “I don’t see anything changing“ she said. I was mentioning that he makes me happy when the conversation degenerated. All sort of things came out of it.
She started by saying: “well, I truly hopes this will be just a friend and you will keep it like that” then she continued with: “please take birth control precautions before you regret it” “don’t come to me later saying I didn’t stop you” and the cherry on top was: “I would have preferred if you told me you were a lesbian cause at least that is cool nowadays”.
I was speechless and I still am.
I asked her what is it that she doesn’t like and what is she basing her opinions on, since she literally knows nothing about him. She couldn’t answer. She kept repeating the same things over and over and she also said she would never want to meet him. I have to mention that the few guys she met that I was dating were of different cultures, but she never had a problem with them, I guess because the skin color was the same… and in her mind there are probably foreigners of Class A, B, C… I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I neither expected such a bad reaction. All this hurts me so much. I don’t know what to do. In my mind it neither makes sense cause she married an immigrant but it seems like she never really came to terms with it, she never really accepted it. For instance, I know nothing about my father’s culture, I never learned the language or interesting facts about it because nobody ever thought me anything about it. I only learned about my mother’s side culture of the country I lived in. And I always felt out of place because this country is extremely racist. The fact that my father was not a good husband or father has nothing to do with where he comes from. If a person is an idiot, is an idiot no matter what. And I told her this when we were talking. The fact that she had a bad experience doesn’t mean that I will, just because I’m seeing someone from a different culture. I also explained to her that I am myself an immigrant, since I’m living in another country. But it doesn’t seem to click in her head. And when I told her, to her face, that she is indeed racist, she obviously denied it, because how can she be racist if she married an immigrant herself? So I don’t really know how to handle this. And I’m also just venting and need some support.
TL;DR: my 25F mother 56F doesn’t approve of my boyfriend 28M just because of the color of his skin. Her opinion is based solely on a photo I showed her.

recently ive started having an issue where steam input begins turning my controller inputs into mouse inputs, ive turned off all steam input settings but any time i press the controllers home button it changes all my inputs back to mouse inputs, and at some points i press it and it just opens up big picture mode tabbing me out of my game, i use the home button to take screenshots in the xbox game bar so just not using it isnt an option, anyone else having this issue? because ive searched everywhere and cant find any instance of anyone else having the same issue

My boyfriend’s family has been living at their apartment for probably a decade, and a new property manager came into the picture a few years back. Now there’s a lot to say about him, but the primary issue right now is a really bad water leak. He is hispanic and seems to have prejudice against older asian families in older units, where rent is not as much as the renovated ones, but the conditions of these units are pretty bad. My boyfriend’s unit is right next to the broiler room and water pipes, and in the last year, there were two initial leaks that seeped through the closet and almost flooded the bedroom. They had to move all their stuff out, and it’s a cramped space. The manager just sent in men to dry out the carpet and left it at that. And now, because they probably never fixed what was wrong, over Mother’s Day weekend, the same exact thing happened. The kitchen, closet, and bedroom was seeping with water, and once again, he sent in people to dry out the carpet. To my surprise, it started leaking again in the middle of the night today, at 4-5 am. They banged on his door, he got up and just turned off the pipes and went back to sleep. We live in California, and his mom pays about $1700 for rent, they’ve always slacked on repairs and half ass it. I know of another unit with a family of almost 10 living in a ONE bedroom, but when I come over or stay “overnight” for more than a week, he issued a warning to my boyfriend’s mom. Is there any course of action able to be taken against property managers like him without fear of retaliation or eviction?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for 10 months. He has a female best friend who is very open sexually bc of her culture, upbringing & trauma, and sleeps around a lot. In the past, before we started dating, they’ve had some sexual interactions. For example, she has sent him pictures of her boobs, they’ve flirted back and forth and he has in random conversations with me dropped some obscure intimate knowledge about her - for example saying she was a big fan of a sex position (they haven’t had sex, haven’t even met IRL, but had some in depth conversation about this stuff). Whilst he and I were dating, she had also sent him semi-regular updates about her sex life. Nothing major or extremely descriptive, but still enough for me to feel discomfort: for example the penis size of some guy she slept with, about how once a guy oiled her up, etc.
I set a boundary with him 5 months back, that IMO sexual intimacy is reserved for your partner only, and them discussing sexual topics on such an intimate level made me uncomfortable. He assured me he agreed and said he would ask her to spare him the details. One month after we agreed to that, I caught another sexual message falling into his phone (the oil thing). He says he thinks she forgot, so 2 weeks after that (he said he wanted to find a good way to phrase it) he sent a longer and more direct message for her to stop. To my knowledge, she hasn’t done it since.
Though, there is still this nagging anxiety in my head about the potential of cheating. I don’t think it’d be out of malice; but sometimes cheating is a well-intentioned persons' boundaries slowly eroding over time, which scared me because they’ve already demonstrated some concerning boundaries already. Realizing I couldn't endure this fear any longer, I saw only two options: either ask him to limit contact or cut off his friend, or break up. Option 1 seemed toxic from the start, so I braced myself for a breakup conversation, even though it was the last thing I wanted, given my love for him.
He insisted that he would rather cut off contact with his friend than risk losing me. He said he was offended and disturbed I would rather break up when he is offering a solution he thinks is perfectly reasonable. After a lengthy and emotional conversation, he managed to convince me to allow him to send her a farewell message, emphasizing that it was his decision to make. She said it was OK.
After reading the heartfelt goodbye message he sent to his friend, where he assured her she could still reach out in emergencies and praised her personality, I couldn't help but shed a tear—it was touching. But now, I'm overwhelmed with guilt, feeling like I've become a toxic girlfriend. Despite my boyfriend's reassurances that he's fine with the situation and urging me to give myself time to come to terms with it, I can't shake the feeling that limiting his contact with friends is a major red flag in relationships, especially considering he doesn't have many close friends.
TL;DR: My boyfriend has a sexually open female best friend with whom he's had past sexual interactions with - her sending NSFW pictures, them going into depth about what they find hot, previously having flirted. The one thing that carried into our relationship was her sending him semi-regular updates about her sex-life, not a lot, maybe 2-3 sentences about dick size, performance or activity. Still, it bothered me. Despite setting boundaries about discussing sexual topics, which she broke at one point. Worried about potential cheating due to blurred boundaries, I felt the only options were to ask him to limit contact or break up. He says he is choosing to cut off his friend to prioritize our relationship, which I feel horrible about. I now struggle with feeling like a controlling girlfriend. Despite his reassurances, I fear I've exchanged one anxiety for another. How do we move forward from here?

I wasn't sure how to title this query, so I'm hoping that even if it's confusing that will grab some attention.
I have £6500 in debt. £1500 is my overdraft and the following £5000 is my credit card. They are both 0% interest until August 2024 and Feb 2025 respectively.
I've recently learned that I will be receiving £6500 as a lump sum from PIP backpayment. I'm disabled, it was wrongly stopped Dec 2022, went to tribunal last week and they ruled in my favour. (NB not having PIP is what built 80-90% of my debt. Now that I will have it back there's little to no concern about re-accruing debt to this level).
Because this small (but significant) 'windfall' was unexpected, I had been budgeting and planning how to pay off both debts, not confident I would make it before interest started. I live paycheck to paycheck as I currently have no emergency fund (hence the overdraft and credit card).
Here was my current thoughts:

• Rather than immediately use the £6500 to clear the debts, act like it doesn't exist, continue my budgeting and payment plans. This will prevent me from getting comfortable and inevitably accruing more debt; I know myself enough to know the risk of having a 0 balance would make me likely to start utilising that credit again during the 0% periods and convincing myself 'it's fine, I'll be able to pay it off in time'.
  
• Have some of the cash easily accessible and the other invested: As my OD needs to be gone by Nov, I wanted to keep £1500 in an easily accessible account. That way when deadline day rolls around (or just before) and if I haven't cleared my OD I'll have the full amount ready to go, even if I don't need it.
  
• As my CC deadline is later I thought about investing it in my S&S ISA which has historical performed quite well (68.74% time weighted returns) in the hopes of growing it even a little over the 8 months. See what progress I make paying off the debt, and again if the deadline roles around I'll have the money to cover it. I know the 'cons' having used this method before- that my money won't be immediately accessible, comparatively arduous having to sell investments individually to have the cash available to transfer, and of course that it runs the risk of dropping in value and not being as much as what.
  

I've had a look at the flowchart and it says to focus on building an emergency fund first before tackling debt, but I really want to have these gone before they start accruing interest. Should I stick to this plan or factor in some emergency fund budgeting? I'm picturing my debts being significantly lower by the time I have to utilise the savings/investments, so whatever is left over can be for emergencies
Noteworthy info: - My accounts: Easy Access Pot (4.53% APR) with Monzo, 32 Day notice account (4.66% APR) with Investec, S&S ISA with Moneybox (current value £995) as well as my Halifax current account & Moneybox Lifetime ISA (£560) - Open to new accounts, have been looking around and Santander have a 5% APR savings account which I'm considering. - Trying to simplify things as much as possible. I know I could be shopping about for best interest rates and moving money around but I just want to 'set and forget' this money until I need to utilise it, and crack on with working. I'd prefer not to deal with accounts that have minimum amount requirements and withdrawal limits etc. -I'm not a big earner per say and right now I'm looking for a new job to maximise income but got limitations being disabled but also a carer for my parents (the irony isn't lost on me). -Now that my PIP has been reinstated I won't be building more debt. Arguably I could be better off month to month because it helps pay for my treatments, which make me better able to work, be productive etc. I think due to inflation I'll be getting a few quid more week/month than I did before it was stopped. I might squirrel that extra £10-20 away each time because I didn't have it before so again pretending like I don't have it now will help me stick to my budgeting.
My two biggest goals this year are getting out of debt and tackling my health issues. This opportunity can genuinely change the trajectory of my future with a compounding effective on my finances. I'm new to my personal finance journey and a fair few years behind my peers: almost 30 and nowhere near ready to buy a house, start a family, go traveling etc but I want to make the best of this and turn my prospects around.

This all sucks so much. (Wisconsin) Some back story, my little family had to move into my parents house two months ago. It’s been hell living with my narcissistic mother, but we’re dealing. With close proximity, we’ve been getting on each other’s last nerve lately. Last Friday, my bf (m25) and i(f24) got into a scuffle over the car keys. I did NOT want to go home at all I hate it at home, and he wasn’t having it. My mom came out and saw the argument and thought I hit him. My stepdad yanked me out of the car so hard and threw me on the lawn in the pouring rain. I was brought inside to my room where my mom stood outside so I couldn’t leave. I left my phone in the car and asked if I could walk through and go get it, but she shoved me to my feet. I got up, it escalated, she pushed me down about four more times. The cops came, they were very nice and I was very cooperative, they let me sit there and cry and heard me out. I have a court date tomorrow and I qualified for a public defender. I saw that a disorderly conduct charge has a fine of $1000 or up to a year in jail! I don’t know if I should plead guilty and just pay up so it’s not on my record or not guilty because I received the most violence. I have pictures of all bruises that idk what to do with. Hi all. I’m not too good with structure of long posts and I have a lot of details to get across so forgive the probably sloppily written paragraphs.
Basically, we have been together for almost 10 months, which I know is probably not a lot for some of you. In my personal life I have struggled with motivation, ideas and productivity (rarely going out, not doing nice fun stuff, etc). I thought that if I bettered myself enough to have a girlfriend I’d be much better off, and that I was. I didn’t at all get a GF just for that reason. We merely fell for each other because we were hanging out a lot, spending a lot of time together and both had immensely similar personalities and interests.
It was perfect, the way we clicked when we first got together. Me driving us places, going on so many adventures. I feel like the “new” sensation of the relationship has worn off, meaning that these days we’re a lot more comfortable with each other? So each others presence isn’t as exciting?
Fast forwarding all this time, when I take a step back to look at what we’ve done for 10 months, I/we find that there are a lot of times where we don’t do anything and often sit at home, gaming or sleeping, and it really brings us down.
Recently she told me we should start taking more time apart, as in a couple days of the week (we are together almost everyday currently), as this will motivate us more and make us more excited to do new things.
To summarise the way I feel, I just feel like we’re both sort of zombies in each others presence, and I really struggle to suggest things or take us places. It is extremely worrying to me, as I can’t imagine us drifting apart. I can’t explain how perfect it was back in the summer we got together. The first kiss, the first sleepover, the pictures where we were both so happy.
Don’t get me wrong, we still love each other so much, and make plans for the future. I just feel like lately, especially with my busy life at the moment. (money/job struggles, exams, car crap)
Is this “bad”? Is this at all something to worry about? Is time apart the right decision? How do we reignite the flame? (Not that I would ever suggest it’s gone. We still have arguably the best laughs with each other).

TLDR: how can a couple struggling with motivation after 10 months bring back the excitement of going on adventures together?

Me (17F) and my friend (17F) have been friends for a long time. She's one of my best friends I'd say. So when I heard about how much of an ass her new boyfriend (21M) was, I was livid. They met on Genshin apparently and they talked for a bit before meeting up. I felt a bit iffy about the age dynamic and stuff (she's still in highschool and he's a full grown adult) but I just warned her to stay safe. But then he progressively started to get more toxic.
He told her he didn't expect her to be so "pudgy." Wtf is that supposed to mean? He calls her mommy. He tells her he jerks off to her pictures. He gave her a back hug when he had a whole ass boner. And she is clearly very uncomfortable with all this. I would have maybe understood if all his horny behaviour was consensual, but she has expressed to him clearly that she's still uncomfortable with his overly sexual comments, and that she wants to remain abstinent. And yet he persists.
He constantly makes weird ass comments about her body, and even talks about other girls' tits to her?? Like other real life women's boobs. To her face. The guys also a weeb so he talks about cringe shit like anime girl tits.. I honestly don't know what she sees in him.
He's also very possessive of her, always jealous of her guy friends, even girl friends sometimes. He got mad when she came to one of my concerts with a friend, cause "she can go out with her friends but not him." We don't even get to hang out much anymore cause we're all so busy, but the one time she wants to spend time with us.. he gets all pissy about it. She even had to pretend that one of our guy friends was her cousin cause he gets so fucking pressed about her having guy friends. BUT. HE CONSTANTLY talks about HIS exes to her, to make HER jealous. She tries her best to be as nice to him as possible, to make sure he's happy. And he's always trying to provoke her, or pick a fight with her, so HE can play the victim.
Needless to say, the guy's a jerk. And I've been telling her to drop him. All of her friends have been telling her to drop him, cause she's very clearly unhappy and tired. And she acknowledges that he's a piece of shit. She told me that she feels tired and drained because they're CONSTANTLY fighting. But she's emotionally attached and can't seem to let him go. It breaks my heart to see her getting hurt by him time and time again, and everyone's trying so hard to get her out of this situation before he gets creepy to the point that she's in danger. I mean, the guy knows where she lives. He lives very very close by. Knowing how erratic and emotional he can be, I find this very concerning.
Her self esteem is so low that she thinks only a shitty guy like him would ever want to date her, so she wants to settle for him. She's afraid she can't do better than him. But I know for a fact that she can, and I've told her this so many times. She's genuinely one of the cutest prettiest and sweetest girls I've ever met, and the fact that such a kind soul is being wasted on a fucking useless loser incel like him sucks. How do I convince her that she doesn't have to settle for an asshole, at SEVENTEEN? How do I convince her that she deserves someone who respects her and cherishes her?

We call trains and buses public transport. But aren’t cars also public transport, since they use public roads?
The difference is that with cars, you have to put up the capital for the vehicle. This is similar to the gig economy, ie Uber, where the cost of the equipment (car) is passed on to the employee (Uber driver) who is then classified as a contractor. Amazon does this with its drivers, and fedex is starting to do the same. They also pay very little, so the company profits from both low wages and low capital costs. These companies are just fucking over their workers like the car and oil companies already fucked the general population.
The car companies dismantled mass transit, then duped us into paying for our own equipment and all associates costs (fuel, taxes, registration, repairs etc), and optimized the scam by marketing cars as status symbols (“Americans love their cars!!!”). In short, they really fucked is over and made us think it’s a good deal!!! It took many years and ton of lobbying and propaganda, but they finally won.
What if we had amazing mass transit today (think Tokyo-level), then suddenly General Motors proposed “no more public transport! From now on, everyone must spend 50k on their own car, pay insurance, drive kids and old people around, build a garage, and we’re going to spread everything out and use most of the land for gas stations and parking lots”. That just wouldn’t make ANY sense. But here we are.

BigCommerce is exploring a sale after attracting takeover interest, according to sources who chose to remain anonymous due to the confidentiality of the information. The sources said that BigCommerce asked investment bank Qatalyst Partners to solicit interest from potential buyers that include private equity firms, but that the discussions are at an early stage and no deal is certain.

Squarespace announced that it will be going private in a $6.9B all-cash deal with private-equity firm Permira, who agreed to pay $44 per share (a roughly 30% premium). Although Squarespace never lost 90% of its share price like BigCommerce, it has experienced a tumultuous time on the market since its IPO in May 2021 — opening around $49.50 and at times trading in the low $20s. Shares rose nearly 13% to $43 in pre-market trading upon release of the news.

ByteDance filed a lawsuit in US federal court seeking to block the new law that would force the sale or ban of the app within the country. The lawsuit challenges the law on constitutional grounds, also citing commercial, technical, and legal hurdles, as well as opposition from Beijing. Legal experts say the legal battle will play out in the courts in coming months and likely will reach the Supreme Court.

OpenAI unveiled its newest model, GPT-4o, designed to turn ChatGPT into a digital personal assistant that can engage in real-time, spoken conversations and interact with users using text, screenshots, photos, documents, and charts. The new version of ChatGPT also has memory capabilities, which means it can learn from previous conversations. It will be available to both unpaid and premium customers alike. OpenAI also announced that it would be launching a desktop app with the GPT-4o capabilities, giving users another platform to interact with the technology outside of a web browser.

Amazon launched in South Africa last week, marking its first marketplace in sub-Saharan Africa, and bringing its total number of marketplaces worldwide to 22. To launch the new marketplace, Amazon is offering free delivery on first orders and on subsequent orders above R500 (about $27), access to 3,000 pick-up points, status updates via WhatsApp to track orders, 30 day refunds, and 24/7 customer support. The marketplace was supposed to launch in the country in 2023, but got delayed due to changes in priorities within Amazon.

In an unlikely partnership, Instacart is partnering with Uber Eats to expand into the restaurant delivery business. Instacart will add a new tab for restaurant delivery to its app in the coming weeks, the listings will be provided by Uber, and the food will be picked up and delivered by Uber Eats drivers. Customers will receive the same prices on both apps and Instacart will receive an affiliate commission on orders. It's a strange partnership though given that Instacart and Uber Eats actively compete on grocery delivery. Are they planning to merge? Uber says no.

Apple's advertisement for its latest iPad Pro sparked criticism for showing an animation of musical instruments, paint cans, cameras, record players, and other symbols of creativity being crushed by a giant machine, with the output being the new iPad Pro, which the company says is the thinnest Apple product ever. In this context, “crushing” was supposed to symbolize “consolidating” and “compacting” — with the visuals meant to showcase how the new iPad Pro puts the power of all these tools into the hands of creators in one thin device. However online commenters criticized the ad as insensitive and as symbolizing a “destruction of the human experience.” The ad hit the web on Tuesday, and by Thursday, Apple issued a mea culpa and apologized for the campaign.

Google is encouraging merchants to enable conversion annotations on their Google Shopping ads, which offer social proof that highlight a product's popularity. Conversion annotations like “best selling” or “3K shopped here recently” would provide visual cues about a product’s popularity or sales performance directly in the ad unit. Annotations like these are par for the course with e-commerce retailers including Amazon, Walmart, and Temu, which all employ similar tactics. They can provide valuable info for shoppers and also help with conversions. However they also open data privacy concerns, given that Google is not the actual retailer or marketplace selling the items, so a merchant would have to share this purchase history data from their e-commerce platform with Google — which technically most already do by giving access to GA4.

Shein is attempting to join the National Retail Federation as it pursues regulatory approval to go public in the US. The company believes that NRF membership would boost its chances of receiving SEC approval. However so far, Shein has been rejected numerous times. An anonymous source familiar with the matter said someone with heavy influence at the NRF is strongly against the Shein's admittance. However board members who spoke to CNBC said that Shein's membership application hadn't come up in meetings, and that they aren't involved in deciding which companies are granted access.

Amazon is leading the way with selling home goods, capturing 18.8% of consumer home furnishings spending, compared to Walmart's 7.3% market share. Notably, Amazon’s gains in the furniture category come in spite of the company’s decision to phase out two of its three furniture brands last year.

Jack Dorsey left the Bluesky board and deleted his account on the service he helped kickstart, claiming that Bluesky was “literally repeating all the mistakes” he made while running Twitter. Amazon is deploying 50 electric trucks in California, which it claims is the largest EV fleet in the country, as part of its mission to eliminate pollution from its global operations. Alibaba is revamping its flagship retail website Taobao for the first time in seven years with a focus on providing a smoother search and buying process. FTX reported that nearly all of its customers will receive the money back that they are owed, two years after the cryptocurrency exchange imploded. The company owes about $11.2B to its customers and estimates that it has between $14.5B and $16.3B to distribute to them. The caveat is that customers will receive the USD value of their holdings at the time of the exchange collapse, and not the actual crypto holdings themselves, which means that they'll miss out on all gains during the past two years during which BTC went from around $16k to now over $60k. Better than nothing though, that's for sure.

800,000 consumers in Europe and the US were duped into sharing card details and other sensitive personal data with a network of fake online designer shops operated from China, which comprised one of the largest scams of its kind with 76,000 fake websites created. The scammers used expired domains to host its fake shops in order to help avoid detection by websites or brand owners, and more than 1M orders were processed in the past three years alone.

TikTok will begin automatically labeling AI generated content when it is uploaded from certain platforms like DALL.E 3, Adobe Firefly, Photoshop, and Microsoft Copilot. eBay is testing an Add To Cart button in search results that opens a Quick View window, allowing buyers to skip the listing page. Technically the button should probably not be labeled “Add To Cart” since it doesn't perform that action, but rather, displays a quick view window with three buttons: Buy It Now, Add To Cart, View All Details. Sellers are worried that buyers will miss crucial details in the product description that may lead to increased returns and negative feedback.

Amazon is planning to launch its fleet of drones in Tolleson, Arizona, but the city's extreme temperature is hampering its efforts. Drones can't operate in temperatures exceeding 104 degrees Fahrenheit, a temperature that Tolleson crosses for a full three months of the year.

A US district judge dismissed X's lawsuit against Bright Data, a data-scraping company accused of improperly accessing X system and violating X terms and state laws when scraping and selling data. The judge basically said that if X owned the data, it could perhaps argue that it has exclusive rights to control it, but then X wouldn't be able to enjoy the safe harbor of Section 230, which allows the platform to avoid liability for third-party content. Can't have it both ways!

Nintendo is discontinuing its X integration for the switch on June 10th, which means users will no longer be able to post screenshots or videos to the platform from their device. The drop in support also affects games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which had game-specific options to send out tweets. Microsoft Xbox dropped support for X in April 2023 and Sony Playstation dropped the service in October 2023 due to the increase in X's API access fees.

Amazon claimed that its recordable incident rate — a metric that comprises all injuries requiring “more than basic first-aid treatment” — at its US warehouses has improved by 24% since 2019. Hi everyone!
Longtime lurker, first time caller :) Just wanted to share some opinions on recent Sezane purchases in terms of fit, quality, etc. Hope it's helpful for anyone thinking about these purchases!
For reference, I'm 5'5", 135-140 lbs (depending on my menstrual cycle), athletic build but also quite curvy (broad shoulders and lats from years of rock climbing, wide hips, smaller waist). Measurements are roughly 37 inch bust - 28 inch waist. My complexion is dark (olive-tan skin, black hair, brown eyes).
Clyde Trench in Camel
I ordered a size 4 as I range anywhere from a size 2-size 6 in Sezane tops just depending on how I want something to fit.

• Pros: Fit me very well in the shoulders, which is hard to do sometimes! Fabric feels like it has a great heft being 100% cotton, lining inside is very cute and comfortable against the skin.
• Cons: Found the camel color to be a bit off-putting in person under fluorescent lights. Wonder if I should've gone for the light beige? Color has an almost beige-green-puke appearance to it instead of a warm-red brown. Very unflattering for my shape. So baggy everywhere but the shoulders. I'm not (that) short but the coat makes me look short and stout. It's also visually just so, so much beige. Drowning in a sea of beige. Really disappointed because I love how this coat looks on models!
• Overall: I would consider trying a size 2 but I'm guessing it'll be tight in my shoulders and for $350 USD, I really would want a coat to be both comfortable and very flattering. Also it's so annoying that it's dry clean only and not at all water resistant, though I would've kept it if I loved how it looked. I think this coat does look great on a lot of people but not me!!

Riddle Jacket in Pied de Poule (Houndstooth) Khaki
I love Octobre Editions and I'm obsessed with how Sezane does a lot of their Instagram reel styling with women wearing men's jackets and knit tops. I watched a reel where their social media ambassador Lise (Lisa?) tried on the Riddle Jacket and commented on being a European size 52 (US Size 42) (which seemed large but what do I know?) so based my sizing off of that.

• Pros: Fabric is very lightweight and cool for the summer, great pattern, extremely cool colors (the houndstooth is very subtly dark green). Construction is very precise and just makes for a very sharp looking jacket.
• Cons: Fabric is maybe even too lightweight, and the jacket has no lining (I think to make it more breathable), but it kind of has an effect of feeling and looking cheap. Which is just not at all what I want in a $450 blazer! In terms of sizing, unfortunately just absolutely gigantic on me everywhere. Not in a cute oversized way. Just a little kid in their dad's suit way.
• Overall: Lesson learned, will try a size 36 if I ever do a Octobre Editions jacket try on again. Also, for the price point, I would definitely just get one of their blazers with a nice lining and a nice heft (wool or 100% cotton instead of seersucker)

Paula Babies (in Polished Camel and Patent Khaki)
I have a quite flat, wide foot (very little arch) and I typically wear a size 7.5-8 Womens US. I've heard a lot of rumblings on this subreddit to size up in Sezane shoes, so I got both a size 8 (Camel) and size 9 (Patent Khaki).

• Pros: Beautiful patent leather (with that new car smell haha)! The colors are to die for! The heel is nice and wide and chunky and feels substantial. Everything is stitched together so I know that the lining won't peel away from the outer leather. Slingback and front straps allow for a lot of adjustability, so much so that I actually fit into both sizes quite comfortably. Decently comfortable in the sole for a dressier shoe.
• Cons: A bit of pinching on the side of my foot unless I let out the straps all the way, then it's mostly gone. Only notice it after sitting in them for a few hours. Walking around my apartment, I think there might be some potential hot spots if I walked a few miles in them, so they will probably need a break in period or a sock. Patent Khaki color looks a bit nicer in bright outdoor lighting and a wee bit dark for my tastes in more indoor lighting, but I still think it'll be adorable with a pair of jeans.
• Overall: Honestly kind of obsessed with them! I think they're incredibly cute and comfortable for a heeled mary jane. I am absolutely not a heel person but the wedge makes them easy to walk around and balance in. The aesthetic is very hard to beat in my opinion (and I stared at a lot of competitors, including Jonak, Bobbies, and Carel, etc), and the color options are really fun. I heard so many terrible things about Sezane's mary janes on this subreddit but I think I'm keeping them both (one for wearing barefoot, one with extra room for frilly socks, they're both so adjustable anyway). You could probably get a nicer shoe for more money but I think the construction and appearance are perfect for the price point.

Hope this experience helps anyone making a decision! Happy to answer more questions and post pictures of shoes (but probably not the jackets, as I've already re-packed them).

Me (35) and my wife (32) have been married for 8 years now with 2 children. Previously, there has never been a hint of any possible cheating or bad behavior.
However, yesterday, while having her phone and taking pictures of her with the children for Mothers Day, I saw a message from Instagram pop up from a man asking her, “How many glasses a wine did you have last night?” At the time I never thought anything of it, and forgot about it. The night before she was simply drinking wine with her friends next door.
Yesterday afternoon, though, that message came into my head, and I checked her phone. I saw several messages back and between my wife and this guy. The guy was constantly complimenting her about her looks and even asked her if she got horny when she was drinking. My wife only ever said thank you back to the guy but she kept messaging back and said “sometimes” to the horny question.
Later that night, after the kids went to bed, I confronted her. She immediately said she felt wrong and was going to tell me at some point. The guy was a former acquaintance of hers at one of her previous jobs. They were talking a lot about their field, personal training, but the guy would compliment her looks at any chance he would get and was clearly trying to slowly work her guard down. They had started talking about 3 days ago.
I told her that I never liked the hiding and the fact that she kept responding. Her main response was that she was trying to get a compliment out of a guy to feel good about herself. She had 2 pregnancies that took a toll on her body and has recently gotten in shape.
I haven’t talked to any of my friends or family members because I dont want to paint the perception of the mother of my children in case the situation is not as extreme as I think in this moment. How best should I move forward?
