know we all have "erebus killed little light" but here's my own little take, what if little light died while she was away? and she met his soul in the warp.
(also, ouldn't do a cover cause my voice is dying. the male voice is fem logar singing, and the female voice is Light's soul. if I can one day, I'll do a proper cover.)
made in heroforge.
song is: "underworld" from Epic the musical. by Jorge Rivera-Herran

also, here's a moment of little light and Lorgar
(that is the book on her shoulder)
not the best design, still WIP
Lorgar teaching little light of The Lectitio Divinitatus

Her showing little light around Monarchia (yes, that's an emperor statue)
(the guardsman is an OC I made, replace him with however you see little light. he just exists for me making 40k scenes.

Nature of Humanity Ch 65
Destination; Wriss part 18
A Fanfic of u/SpacePaladin15’s work “The Nature of Predators.” Thank you for the story!
___
Excerpt of Dr. Elva's Journal recovered from the wreck of the Dauntless Victory
Many people suffer from motion sickness on space-faring ships. Normally, this comes from the disjoint of the body’s means of understanding how its actually moving and the mind's perception of how it is moving, but with the invention of inertial dampeners, one would think standing in what feels like a stationary room with no windows wouldn't cause motion sickness.
Yet, that's precisely what's been happening to me. I've never felt this way before. Dr. Wiesera believes the sudden onset of motion sickness is caused by the stress of our current situation. I am given to believe her as I have noticed ticks in the rest of the crew. For example, Crevan has begun pacing in circles but seems confused when someone tries to get his attention. The only person who seems calm and unbothered is Barmlin, but given his disorder, I am confident in dismissing this abnormal behavior. To be truthful, I am a little glad to see the Arxur just as nervous as us.
____
Memory transcription subject: Elva, Morvim Charter Soldier
Date [standardized human time]: November 3rd, 2136
Our ship was hovering listlessly in the void of space just past the small astrological body known as Pluto. My digits tightened around the trigger of my gun as the five of us kept our weapons trained on the door. Crevan was unable to stop Isif from inspecting the “gifts” Humanity was giving to the Arxur as “thanks” for their intervention.
Wiesera let out a sigh as she lowered her firearm and grabbed the pad displaying the security feed, “Alright… we are in the clear. Isif has just departed the ship.”
We let out a collective sigh. The first hurdle for getting to Wriss had just been cleared without so much as a scratch. We lowered our guns as Hrallak opened the door, “We are safe for now. Crevan doubts we will get boarded again. Isif is apparently a bit of an outlier among the Chief Hunters.”
Caulnek stood up and stretched, “Hey, it's not like we didn't expect to get boarded leaving here and upon entering Dominion space.”
Rivera rubbed the sleep from his eyes, “Still couldn't we have done something better than just sit in a cattle pen with our guns pointed at the door?”
Hrallak thumped her tail no, “This is the Dominion we are speaking about. The great purge taught them everything about how stuff is hidden. I watched an Auditor enter a friend's house and in half a second open their hidden door. If they actually had anything stored in there, they would have all been executed via…”
As she trailed off, Wiesera changed the subject, “I never thought I'd willingly experience what it's like to lift off inside an Arxur ship. This is… unsettling.”
Hrallak wagged her tail, “It's sort of the opposite for me. For the first time in my life, I've come for the people in this room without that horrid knot in my guts. It feels like I'm free.”
It finally dawned on me as we grabbed our limited possessions and left the cattle pen behind for good, that every time she has come to this room before it’s been to drag some unfortunate soul to their death. Even if Crevan stated that she tried to be merciful, her paws were personally stained with a rainbow of blood that I doubt she would ever be able to wash out.
Yet, there was a slight spring in her step as she led the way to the galley with us in tow. Before she probably had to drag screaming victims to their fate, and now she is leading us to one of many meetings. I suppose in a sense, she is finally free. Whether this mission is successful or not, she will never butcher another sapient for as long as she lives.
My tail had the slightest wag to it as we entered the galley. The smell of disinfectant and bleach was strong enough to hit my blunt sense of smell but helped to wipe away any thought of the horrors that happened in this area. Lesh, Ishveil, and Ivan were waiting for us with cloths draped over their snouts.
For a moment, I thought they were trying to mimic what the humans do with their face coverings before they handed a cloth to both Hrallak and Wiesera. Wiesera took in a deep breath through the cloth, “Thank you, this smells a lot stronger than the hospital., Oh! This is a rather strange scent! I wouldn't think the Arxur would approve of scented laundry detergent!”
Ivan chuckled, “The dominion doesn't, but when I got a whiff of what the humans did to clean this ship, I nearly hurled. Thankfully, they had a handy solution ready. The smell should lighten up soon. And we also have more towels if you want them for any reason.”
Lesh thumped his tail against the ground, “Crevan and Mico are piloting the ship. You know the crew rotation. It should be quiet for the next few days… at least before we arrive.”
Ivan thumped his tail in agreement, “Normally, I'd suggest using downtime to train, but that is not exactly something we can do on this ship. So whatever you can do to keep ready for the attack without blowing the ship up or ruining our cover will be essential.”
Rivera stuck his paw in the air, “Does that include doing anything to distract us from the fact we are on a cattle ship?”
Lesh's eyes opened wide, almost as if he hadn’t considered what being on board would be like for us. He thumped his tail, “Y-yeah. It wouldn't do to have you freaking out… but it would be better for you to come to terms with the situation instead.”
Hrallak held herself with her own arms, “If the horrid things that have happened on this ship are getting to you, then you aren't ready for Wriss. Here… people were tortured, killed and eaten… on Wriss it was entire species…”
Rivera was starting to shake when Caulnek slapped a paw on his back, “It'll be fine. We've turned this ship from one of death to salvation, we can do it again. I got a projector and some human movies from a friend. What do you say about turning the lights down and watching them?”
“Y-yeah sure.”
Ivan tilted his head, “Movies? As in video media for entertainment instead of education? Can I watch? I've never seen anything like that before.”
Caulnek flicked his ears yes, then Lesh rolled his eyes and walked out of the room as Caulnek set up his projector. While Ivan, Ishveil and Hrallak sat separated from us, we all sat in a close-knit ball.
With the already dim lights off, our only source of illumination was the projector's light bouncing off the wall. A series of short clips began to play, depicting a series of quarries and mines. For the most part, it was heavy machines moving vast amounts of earth and stone.
Stupidly large dump trucks practically carried mountains on their backs. A gargantuan chain saw cut into the earth, making an artificial valley in a matter of hours. A drill comparable to a skyscraper began to drill a tunnel down into the earth.
I could only begin to imagine this movie was about mining and the stresses that it brings. Several humans began to carefully set up explosives in a tunnel and ran cables to a safe place. The lot of them were smiling at each other and were practically bouncing from excitement. Two humans standing several feet apart nodded at each other and flipped the plastic safety covers on two red switches before flipping them.
As the light turned green, every human ducked and covered in their makeshift bunkers as the detonation sent a shockwave down the tunnel. As the dust settled, I noticed the music that was playing in the background was now silent.
Two people walked off into the settling dust cloud and began to scream. A man who for the entire time he has been on the screen has had a blank emotionless face picked up a radio, “Report.”
“WE HIT THE FUCKING MOTHERLOAD! THE ENTIRE CAVE IS MADE OF THIS NEEAHRITE SHIT! HELL THERE ARE FLOATING COLUMNS OF THIS STUFF”
The description of the made up material caught me off guard. It wasn't until a serious dude walked forward that I realized why they said that. A floating hexagonal pillar of pearlescent green and orange stone floated weightlessly in the middle of a large chamber. As the miners walked through the chamber, what I had assumed to be just the minerals lining the walls twinkling in the light were pushed away like leaves floating on water.
The illusion broke as I realized that the air was filled with small floating particles. They almost gave the impression of being submerged underwater. A miner swept a bag through the air and closed it, “Hey, let's get out of here. Pretty sure breathing in minerals causes cancer. We can come back with respirat-” BANG!
We all jumped as a red puff came from the man's chest. The miners began to scream and run, but each one fell over after their own personal gunshot went off. Soon the only person standing was the emotionless human who wiped some blood off his face.
Several armed soldiers came into the cave wearing full combat gear and respirators, “Sir. Site secured. All potential leaks have been neutralized.”
Their leader fell to his knees and held his hands up to the floating monolith, “Excellent. Begin phase 2.”
Caulnek threw his paws into the air, “What?! Why did they do that? All those people worked together!”
Ishveil snorted, “I doubt that. That one human in charge was using the miners. When he was done using them, he threw them away. I've seen dominion officers do that to countless runts.”
“I- I just never imagined that as something humans would think of…”
“Then you need to read up on Humanity's past. Especially about their most hated foe, the Nazis.”
The camera cut to a man nearby a primitive cabin in the woods. He looked grizzled and old as he was nervously picking at his beard. A truck rolling up caught his attention and he waved at it. I couldn't read the words on it, but the woodsman addressed the man who stepped out of the truck, “Evening, Warden. Thanks for coming out here.”
“Hey, thank you! If there's aA new disease going around affecting the wildlife, I want to get on top of it now and not later. So tell me what happened.”
“Well sir. I got my permit to harvest yesterday when I noticed my stores were getting low.”
“Thank ya for doing that!”
“Welcome. I went to go harvest my first deer and… well, when I shot it, my round ricocheted off. Like I hit a piece of wrought-iron.”
They walked over to the deer and my little herd flinched as he showed the flayed corpse of a prey animal hanging upside down.
“It didn't run off so I shot it again but in the head this time. I brought it back here to dress it, but…”
I suppressed a gag as the man stuck his hand into the corpse and- pulled out a huge chuck of the mineral we had just seen, “Well… this!?”
The warden opened up a bag and took the stone from him, “Go wash your hands now. I- fuck! I got no clue what this is or if it can jump the species barrier. Also, I am taking the deer too, I'll have you compensated and get ya a new tag.”
Ivan spoke up, “Did those rocks… infect that animal?”
Wiesera shook her head, “No. Rocks can't infect anything. What likely happened is this mineral was absorbed by vegetation, which the animal ate and absorbed. That stone chunk the Game Warden pulled out was its intestines. The mineral is probably also contaminating the entire body of it.”
We quieted down again as the show carried on. The warden had put out an alert to the town about the mineralization of local animals, as well as a notice to not drink the groundwater. The Game Warden was standing with his brother, a police officer, as a doctor explained that several people were already showing signs of mineralization.
The pair of them discussed what they could do to try and solve this epidemic. Apparently, all means of communicating with the outside world were gone and both of the major roads coming into the area had collapsed into sinkholes.
Finally, the brother's decided that the Police would help the few Doctors help patients and keep a quarantine enforced while the Warden would go ask the miner's if there was an expert on call who could help.
As the brothers left the coroner's office, they both froze, like spotted prey. One of the miners who was visibly missing part of his head was standing in front of them. The warden took a half step towards him before the miner let out a star’s awful wail. I heard the sound of Hrallak skittering back as we watched the miner rush, lift and throw the warden ten feet onto the hood of his own truck. His brother quickly whipped out a taser and shot the man with it but started to backpedal as he just kept walking despite the electricity flowing through his body.
As the Police brother screamed in fear at the mineralized miner, the Warden managed to scramble off his truck and grab a shotgun from his cab. He fired a round into the miner's head, causing it to explode like a dropped ceramic plate. The body made another step forward and slowly started to crumble.
The brothers stared at the dust laying on the road as sirens began to grow in intensity. The screen smash cut to a dozen law enforcement cruisers ripping through mountain roads on their way to the quarry. As they approached the locked gates, the first cruiser flew through it, smashing it open for the others. While the officers climbing out didn’t look like they were anything special, they still moved in a coordinated effort.
Ishviel thumped his tail, “Are we going to see human strike teams at work?”
Caulnek snorted, “Yeah, no. From what I’ve seen of human media, their entertainment industry cares very little for accuracy. Expect these guys to do some nonsensical stuff.”
The Brother officer stepped out of his truck and loaded some shells into his shotgun. Another officer berated him for taking a lethal weapon into this quarantine operation when he stopped and stared them down, “I watched someone already mineralized chuck my older brother like a gawdamn can of beans. I will try to save as many people as possible, but I ain’t gonna die for this.”
With the defiant statement made, we proceeded to watch some surprisingly boring action. Or perhaps the actual action we had all seen took any entertainment out of it for us. From police officers ignoring all sense of danger and the lack of any competency of the bad guys who were still holding the mines hostage, I couldn’t tell who was worse. We’d watch three officers walk into a clear ambush, only for the bad guys to reveal themselves and then proceed to miss every shot.
Whenever the cops had to deal with those that had been mineralized, the victims suddenly moved five times slower and had absolutely none of their previous magical strength. It was starting to get so bad that we were all laughing by the time the warden and his brother confronted the mine’s manager. Yet, we all froze for a moment when we saw him. He stood there with his back turned to them and his hands held in the air, worshiping the floating monolith. He slowly turned around to reveal… some sort of pink goop thing piloting a robot human?
Wiesera just let out a “What the FUCK is this show?!” while Ivan doubled over in pain from laughing so hard.
Ishviel gave a confused look to Caulnek, “What is the plot of this thing?!”
Caulnek held his paws in the air, “It's a B movie. Guys had no budget to make a movie but wanted to anyways for some reason. My friend and I spent quite some time during the exchange watching these silly things.”
Hrallak was holding the tip or her snout as tears rolled down her eyes, “Oh my gosh, so this isn’t even good Human entertainment?”
“NOPE! Bottom of the barrel right here! Now shush! We are getting to the good part! The villain's monologue!”
“No you stupid apes. We Takakapalta have always been around. We were and have always been. Since your planet's life was barely strands of DNA swimming around in hot mud, we have planned. We have worked and strived and bled for this day. The day the Neahrite is ready for harvest. The full-”
The Warden rolled his eyes, “OH, SHUT THE FUCK UP!” before the brothers fired shell after shell into the alien, killing it.
The Police officer placed his hand on the warden’s shoulder, “Hey… should we have brought it in alive for the feds?”
He and the warden laughed as they walked off and the credits rolled.
Wiesera had buried her head in her paws, “I’m sorry but… WHAT!? Just WHAT?! THEY AREN’T GOING TO ADDRESS THE DISEASE RUNNING RAMPANT THROUGH THE TOWN?! THROUGH THE ECOSYSTEM?!”
Ishviel rolled onto his back and splayed himself across the floor, “What about those tactics? I thought those humans in masks defending the mines were professional soldiers! Those ambushes! They practically screamed, ‘this is an ambush’ before jumping out of cover and getting shot!”
Caulnek was laughing even harder, “Oh yeah! Or the fact that the whole explanation we got was, ‘Aliens did it.’ Like that wraps up anything nicely at all!”
Ivan was still chuckling to himself, “Are all the movies that you have these… B movies?”
“YUP!”
“Put another one on. I’ve never laughed like this before.”

Movie night with the more friendly gator bois! And gal. Caulnek was introduced to cheesy B movies and now the whole gang is too! Looks like they might have a pleasant time en-route to Wriss!
Also this week SUCKED. Monday my car hit some deep water early in the morning and popped my water belt off causing my car to overheat. That led to a 4 hour trip home when it should have been 35 minutes. Bought a new belt and it’s fixed. THEN on friday our parking lot floods and the floor of my car gets flooded. Any higher and it would have poured into my car when I opened the door. It’s been three days and I will likely have to pull the seats, center console and some other things out to remove the carpet. Maybe I can find someone to pay to fix this problem. But hey… Ford should start building my truck this week.

Was delivering for Uber eats last night driving my 1995 Honda Accord. Had a pickup at a wendys in Pico Rivera in California. Locked my car keys in pocket went inside and waited about 5-10 minutes for the order. When I went outside my vehicle was gone. Police were called and took a report. They checked video footage and there was a guy looking in cars before I got there. He goes inside for a water cup and as I’m entering the building he’s walking out. He goes over to where my vehicle is at and you can’t really make out what he’s doing in the cameras because it’s dark out but less then 2 minutes later you see my car reversing and it’s gone.

2024.05.03 10:12 micronesiarain Episode 4- "Black Table Talk" 🎙️🖤

Episode 4-
the queens return to the workroom after the previous challenge and see the placements displayed on a large monitor
Contessa: The prettiest ones safe, at least we did it together!
🏁 Contessa CF: Last week was the first time this season where you could say I had a bit of a slip. And shockingly, I'm at peace with it. I gave everything I had to the challenge, and that's what's important to me. And if my Season Four sisters had some nicer looks for me to work with, maybe I could've done better. Just kidding! But honestly...where were the silks and chiffons?
Tiwa: I was hoping for a miracle, but I can't be mad about it when everyone brought it at the level they did. I'm really inspired to be around performers like you.
🏁 Tiwa CF: There's major imposter syndrome going on. Any good critique I get, it feels like it is going to a totally different person. But any criticism, it feels like a shot to the heart and it's all I can focus on.
Unieke: This whole group is a dream to be part of. All of us...absolutely sickening. And Tiwa, I'm not about to let you forget that!
Tiwa: Thank you, really.
🏁 Tiwa CF: These queens have pulled me back from the edge too many times to count at this point. I'm not someone who would ever be pressed about not winning a design challenge. But it's like my mind is reaching out to find anything bad to cling onto.
gtGIRL: Congratulations to our winners, Anthyy and Zodya!
Zodya: Thank you, thank you!
Anthyy: Did it feel like All Stars all over again?
Zodya: Maybe just a bit!
gtGIRL: First one to two wins, I would tip my hat to you if I was wearing one. But for now, I shall just tip this cute little headband.
🏁 gtGIRL CF: I am dreading getting out of this look. I've never felt more at home, more authentic. The insect life is the life for me, I won't micropologize for that. Ever!!
Unieke: Share the wealth! But hey, I think that makes you the frontrunner.
Zodya: Does it? If I keep losing these lipsyncs, I'm not so sure about that.
Unieke: I don't knowww, I think you're leading the pack!
🏁 Zodya CF: I'm trying to telepathically communicate to Unieke to stop talking about who the frontrunner is. I've never been in this position before, but I can feel more eyes on me than ever. The power is slightly delicious, but very scary at the same time. It's like a chamoy pickle in a sense.
Zodya: Anthyy, how did it feel to get the win?
Anthyy: Amazing!! Oop, lemme compose myself. Nope I can't, it was just amazing!
Tiwa: You can finally take a deep breath now and relax.
Anthyy: These fingers are all sore, but worth it for this look.
🏁 Anthyy CF: It's real cute to have fun during the challenges. But that feeling when you put your whole puss into the challenge and win, it's a diva moment!
Tiwa: The level of detail just blew me away.
Anthyy: They say take one thing off, but I put ten more things on and made sure it was all in the right place. The outcome felt correct!
🏁 Anthyy CF: All Stars for me was all about winning as much as possible. This time was supposed to be about letting loose, and it was going that way! And then I get a win under my belt and realize there's nothing stopping me from being the winner. It would be the perfect ending to my MDR journey, let's keep the momentum going.
Contessa: Moof, you're awfully quiet. I'm not complaining, but...
Moof: I'm good. Very happy for the winners, congrats girls!
🏁 Moof CF: I'm choosing to keep my mouth shut, because there are a lot of emotions going through me right now. I don't want to rain on their parade, but I do feel like it should've been me in the top over one of them. I feel like I'm being overlooked, even though I've been checking all the boxes every week.
Contessa: ...okay! I almost believed it when you said that.
Moof: Believe me, I'm thrilled. Some might even say overjoyed.
Anthyy: Is this about the block?
Moof: A very small portion of it.
Anthyy: It was a gift from you to me, I had to let you share that magical feeling.
Moof: Got you, I got it.
🏁 Anthyy CF: It's all over her face, Moof wanted to win this week. She'll have her moment eventually, but this was a week for the real fashion queens.
Unieke: You sure you're good?
Moof: Oh my god, you lot are tiring. You want an answer from me that isn't something I actually feel. What do you want me to say right now?
gtGIRL: Recite the alphabet backwards.
Unieke: I don't want you getting heated, I want to make sure you're all good.
Moof: And like I said, I'm good.
🏁 Moof CF: I'm laser focused right now on this next challenge. I thought this would be my week to win, but all I got from it was a block. My hopes were high, and it was the worst outcome. I need to come forward as someone to be afraid of. If I could win this next challenge even though I can't get a banjo, how could you ignore that? It would show that I'm here to compete, win, and make some moves.
Unieke: Emotions are high right now. Let's get out of drag and get some rest. I love you girls, let's end it there.
the queens get up and get out of drag as the conversations continue
Contessa: When you're ready to talk about whatever, know I'm here for you.
Moof: Thank you. I wish it wasn't getting to me, but thanks for being there for me.
Contessa: You pulled me from a very stressful place with this last challenge, I owe you.
🏁 Contessa CF: There are a lot of perks to having some of my close friends here. But one of the unexpected downsides has been that I'm invested in how they do here. I didn't consider myself an empath, I prefer being an ice cold bitch. But Moof and Tiwa...there's a soft spot there for sure.
Zodya: I'm gonna need you to help get this target off of me. This is unfamiliar territory for me.
gtGIRL: I'll do what I can to help you out. You know you have me on your side.
Zodya: Is there any way I avoid a block soon?
gtGIRL: Well, you could always win the challenge!
Zodya: I'm so screwed.
🏁 gtGIRL CF: My competitive senses are starting to tingle. Above all else, I came here to have fun. But I see other queens clearing a path to the crown, and something needs to be done about that. I brought a sizable collection of boots with me, it's time to use them to stomp stomp stomp to the top. I'm ready to kill them. With love of course! And I'll get away with it. teehee!
The Next Day
the queens enter the workroom in unison and gather around the table
🏁 Unieke CF: It's a brand new day, and I may or may not have done three summoning circles earlier to try and manifest a win. Whatever it takes, we need it!
Moof: I want to clear the air about last night. I was in the middle of a lot of emotions. I didn't want to discuss it, because that moment wasn't about that.
Unieke: We're here for you when things like that happen. We're here together, we need to show up.
Moof: Thank you, Unieke. Anthyy and Zodya, I really am happy for the two of you.
Zodya: I know you are, we're all good.
🏁 Zodya CF: This group isn't necessarily one big happy family. But we seem to have reached a point where things are very cordial and peaceful. It won't last past lunch, but enjoy it while it's here!
gtGIRL: Add workroom banter here. Oh, I don't think I was supposed to say that part. Ahem, let's try again!
gtGIRL: What was everyones reason for coming back to compete again?
Contessa: It's a bit of a pride thing, I can't lie. The first time, I had to show that I was a winner. Coming in this time, we already know.
🏁 Contessa CF: Now, half the cast on Season Four knew I was a winner from the first episode, but we move.
Moof: I knew I had to come back. Not only to show off how much I've grown since Season Five, but to represent the season. People want to throw shade at Season Five, but that season was a really special moment, I need to give it some flowers.
Unieke: Well, you do give flowers to something that died.
Zodya: Unieke, you are a mess!
Unieke: Stick with me honey, let mama teach you.
🏁 Unieke CF: Miss Zodya Killer, she got some evil in her. I will gladly take on the responsibility of letting her unleash that.
Moof: Like I said, Season Five stays catching strays!
the workroom door swings open and Micro walks in wearing a denim bodysuit with baggy denim boots and a slicked back ponytail
Unieke: And I was just getting warmed up, the hell!?
Micro: Hello, hello! If it isn't my favorite award winning designers. So far, you've shown that each of you can perform, market yourself, and put together a look worthy of a queen. For your challenge this week, we're giving the viewers a peak into the lives of their favorite queens. In two groups, you'll be working together as part of the new revealing talk show, "Black Table Talk".
Unieke: Why it gotta be black?
Micro: They were the cheapest at Home Depot, you know the budget we got!
Unieke: I see you queen.
Micro: You'll be choosing your own teams for this challenge. One group of four, and one group of three. And on the runway, category is "Work of Art"! Good luck ladies, it's time to get real!
Micro leaves the workroom and the queens rush to get into groups
🏁 Moof CF: The best thing for a challenge like this is having the right dynamic on the panel. I need to find Contessa and Tiwa right away.
Moof: Tiwa, Contessa...you down?
Contessa: That was easy! Let's go.
🏁 Contessa CF: This team is the best option for all of us, but I'm worried about Tiwa. She's been keeping to herself lately, and this is not the challenge where you want to get quiet.
Zodya rushes around the workroom to grab Anthyy and gtGIRL
🏁 Zodya CF: I've been on enough seasons to have all the right connections. Anthyy is someone who will do the work, and gtGIRL has an effortless sense of humor to keep everything moving and flowing.
Zodya: What do you think about this group?
gtGIRL: Yes please!
Anthyy: Lemme think...
🏁 Anthyy CF: After Zodya comes over to me, I look over at Unieke and start to worry. Both groups of three came together instantly, but Unieke wasn't pulled into anything. That's my girl, and she's an asset on this team. We need her.
Anthyy: Unieke needs to be with us. That bitch is sickening.
Zodya: Do you think she'd be down?
Anthyy: Yes ma'am! Unieke, come over here.
Unieke: I'm feeling this energy. Dream team?
gtGIRL: Absolutely yes please!
🏁 Unieke CF: Being on the larger team is a little intimidating, but I know I can talk for hours on end. This is what I need in order to push through. I'm getting my good shoes on and grabbing the loudest microphone, showtime!
Anthyy, gtGIRL, Unieke, and Zodya sit on the couches and go over their segment
🏁 Anthyy CF: Our team for this challenge has all the right elements to bring us a win. We'll give Micro no choice but to make it a quadruple win!
gtGIRL: Before we get into possible talking points, does anyone strongly want to be the moderator?
Zodya: I wouldn't mind.
Unieke: I don't want to be pushy about it, but I think I really need this. I have no wins, this is a spot where I could change that.
🏁 Anthyy CF: I think all of us could do great work with this role. But I have a chance here to help a friend, I know what I have to do.
Anthyy: Unieke, I think this is the perfect role for you.
Unieke: We good with this?
Zodya: It's all yours.
🏁 Zodya CF: If I was in the moderator position, I know another win would be in reach. But Unieke wants the chance to prove herself, and I don't want to be the one pushing against that. She can have it, but this will be the only time I give up a chance like this.
Unieke: Ah, I can't wait! Thanks you guys, this should be fun. Any ideas for what we should talk about?
gtGIRL: I think it would be swell to discuss the power of wearing clothes that don't go past the knee.
Zodya: Yeah, I don't know about that one.
Anthyy: If I know Micro, I know that she'll be looking for people who are really giving emotion and honesty. And with how tense it's gotten with discussing sexuality and gender identity, maybe we tackle that? Share about our journeys and how we made it through something that can be scary.
Unieke: Perfect, I'm on board!
Zodya: It's something that connects all of us, even though we have our own perspectives. I think it'll be great.
🏁 gtGIRL CF: Anthyy is taking a very active role in getting all of this together. Unieke is the moderator, but I have to give props to Anthyy for making sure all the ducks are in a row. It's me, I'm one of the ducks.
Unieke: And do we have any ideas for the looks we want?
gtGIRL: I do-
Zodya: We can't all wear a mini dress.
gtGIRL: First of all, you most certainly can. And second of all, I was going to say business casual. Lady on the go...she works at an office...she drinks coffee and types on a keyboard.
Unieke: That feels very specific.
gtGIRL: Okay fine, she doesn't need to type on a keyboard.
Zodya: But she could!
gtGIRL: So true Zodya, you see the vision.
Contessa, Moof, and Tiwa sit around the table to plan for the challenge
🏁 Contessa CF: With there only being three of us, I think it helps us out a ton in the challenge. The other team needs to worry about talking over people and saying everything they need to say, we have room to breathe and make sure it all works perfectly.
Moof: I want to start off by saying, we got the best possible team here. We've worked together before, this is perfect for us.
🏁 Moof CF: Between the three of us, we have a solid amount of hosting experience. Contessa and I have hosted our own drag competitions, Tiwa hosts a talk show, this should be smooth sailing.
Contessa: Tiwa, do you think you're up for moderating? We need to get you a banjo.
Tiwa: I don't think right now is the best time for that.
Moof: You good?
Tiwa: I'm sorry, I need to take a moment.
🏁 Tiwa CF: Earlier today, I got some news from home that has taken all of my focus away from this competition. There are things I need to tend to, and all I can do is hope that I'm back in time to be part of this challenge.
Tiwa leaves the workroom
Moof: Do we think she'll come back?
Contessa: Oh yeah, she wouldn't leave for good without saying goodbye.
Moof: In case she doesn't come back, how do we want to plan this?
Contessa: If she doesn't return, we can banter back and forth and be a proper duo. If she does come back, I can step up and moderate.
Moof: Okay. If you're open to it, I also want to moderate if she returns.
Contessa: Two moderators?
Moof: I was thinking more about me being the only moderator.
🏁 Moof CF: I need to get back on top and win another banjo. I know Contessa feels the same way, but I really want this. And after helping her last week, she said it herself that she owes me.
Contessa: I have a lot of ideas of what we could do, I think I'd keep everything in order.
Moof: What are your ideas?
Contessa: I sort of want to know if I'm the moderator before giving them up.
Moof: Really?
Contessa: ...
🏁 Contessa CF: Even in a group challenge, we're competing for one crown at the end of this. I don't want to be difficult, but I need to make sure I'm prioritizing myself.
Moof: After everything last week, I would really like to moderate. But I'm not about to fight you for it. The decision is yours, just know that that's my desire.
Contessa: I think I'll moderate.
Moof: ...alright.
🏁 Moof CF: I didn't want to force Contessa to let me moderate. I was hoping that by making it very clear that I wanted to do it, she would do the right thing. And maybe she did for herself, but she really burned me here.
gtGIRL and Zodya get ready by the mirrors as they talk about their fears for the challenge
Zodya: How are you feeling about the challenge?
gtGIRL: I try and be very cute and funny to avoid getting too personal, but I think this challenge could be a chance for me to open up.
Zodya: I'm not about to cry with this makeup on, but your story is one that people need to hear. Accepting the idea of being queer is such a hard thing to do. But you're a success story.
gtGIRL: Zodya...
Zodya: No, listen to me. Your talent, the way you carry yourself, the way that people view you? It's something that inspires me.
gtGIRL: Screw the makeup, this is gonna make me tear up. Thank you.
🏁 gtGIRL CF: I was starting to get in my head, and Zodya brought me back to earth. So many parts of our journeys on MDR have been connected, and I know it happened for a reason. That's my girl.
gtGIRL: And I hope you know how amazing your story is too. Seeing how much you've grown since Season Six, I'm so proud of you.
Zodya: That means so much coming from you. I need to fix this eye makeup and then it's time to get it done.
gtGIRL: Nobody else I'd rather trauma dump with!
🏁 Zodya CF: gtGIRL and I were close on Season Six, but I was still so intimidated by her. And if you were there, you would've felt the same after that seventh win! She feels like a sister this time, I'm so glad to have her here.
Tiwa returns to the workroom and rejoins her team
🏁 Tiwa CF: I'm back with the girls, and there's not much time before we have to go out and do the challenge. Real life issues tried to get in the way, all I can do now is hope that I can catch up and make sure I don't bring them down.
Moof: You alright?
Tiwa: Honestly...no. But I'm dedicated to this team, we're making it through today.
Contessa: I know how hard this has been for you. Thank you for pulling through.
🏁 Contessa CF: Ideally, we would've had a lot more time with Tiwa to work on this. We can't change what happened, it's going to need to be a rush to get her ready for this. There are minutes until we hit the stage...minutes.
Tiwa: Tell me everything, I'm gonna get a quick beat going.
Moof: Moderator, go ahead.
🏁 Moof CF: You want the power, I'll let you handle this one!
Contessa: 2023 is over, we're talking about it. The good, the bad, how we grew, all that. And dress like you're going to a funeral...in a very chic way.
Tiwa: ...I think I got all that.
🏁 Tiwa CF: I need to go with the flow and roll with the punches. I'm winging it entirely.

Micro Episode 4 Look
Micro: Hello my beauties, and welcome back to the runway of Micro's Drag Race: All Winners! Joining me on the judging panel tonight is a drag artist who is bewitchingly talented, Hex!
Hex Guest Judging Look
Micro: Hex, welcome back!
Hex: Thanks for having me, it's always loads of fun.
Micro: You know a few things about creating a work of art. What are you looking for in these looks?
Hex: Take the inspiration and add your own twist to it. Make sure your own style shines through.
Micro: And when you look that sickening, I think it's wise to take your advice! Now, you ready to get started?
Hex: Let's do it!
Micro: Earlier today, the queens were asked to work in two groups and put together their own panel style segment for the revealing new show, "Black Table Talk". And on the runway, category is..."Work of Art"!
--------------
"Bad Juju" by Jujubee pulses throughout the studio as the queens begin to strut the runway
Tiwa: Inspired by the iconic The Persistence of Memory painted by Salvador Dali I have taken the clocks and turned them into actual pieces or ART! The liquified art has moulded itself on my body creating a sculpture fit for the next fixture in the Modern Art Museum!
Tiwa Runway
Contessa: Miss Micro called for a work of art? I said let me bring the piece right onto the runwayyy! This look is a fashion representation of the work by Gustav Klimt. He worked mainly with the colour gold and focused a lot on having a female subject... guess it's good a biological woman is wearing this right now, huh? This runway look is so grand and glamorous but also artsy and camp. Those are the two elements I try to combine in my drag so this is one of my favourite runways to date.
Contessa Runway
Moof: This look inspired "Kanagawa oki nami ura", a very famous Japanese print, dated between 1830 and 1832, made by Katsushika Hokusai. I chose to incorporate this into an outfit by adapting a Japanese yukata, and combining it with the flows of the print's vicious waves, the way they flow all around. There is even a cute boat in the waves of the hair, creating a sparkly wake through this hair art. I chose to appreciate this artwork and fashion piece because I find them to be very beautiful and a respectful way to portray the beauty of Japanese culture.
Moof Runway
Unieke: For this work of art runway, I wanted to stay very to who I am inside and give some love to my inner child. So this piece is a beautifully Lopunny inspired piece paying tribute to the Pokémon art style. Lopunny is nothing but high femininity and BODY! Literally me! You thought it was over!? Yeah SIKE! Open your mouth babe, it’s opened from GAGGING! This beautiful train pays so much homage to the Japanese video game designer, illustrator, manga artist, and director of Pokémon, Ken Sugimori!! The drawings on this outfit shows off his Gen 1 Art style which holds a very special place in my heart. I am so happy about this piece. It’s different, campy, but yet still so me!
Unieke Runway
Zodya: For the Work of Art runway, I am inspired by two famous artists/art styles: the Jingdezhen white and blue porcelain pottery of early China and…myself! This look is actually a remake of the very first look I’ve ever drawn for a competitive org, that being FDR5’s premiere. And ever since that challenge, I’ve been terrorizing runways for just under 2 years, with that very first win proudly over my chest as a medallion! The armor pieces are made to be inspired by old porcelain, with intricate blue and white patterns and designs all across my body. Oh, and what’s better with porcelain than tea! Bitch I am OVERFLOWING, and exuberant that I was able to recreate this fantasy and make it even bigger and better than ever before! Wanna take a sip, bitch?

Anthyy: Tonight's runway catgeory in my eyes is a perfect opportunity to do something you know i always love to do - represent my culture. One of our best polish paintings is "Girl with chrysanthemums" by one and only Olga Boznańska. But i have a personal story with this painting. It's in my homecity,. actually in a museum very near from where i live. And when i was very little my grandma took me to see it with me. And then in the little souvenir shop she bought me a little notebook with girl with chrysanthemums on the cover, and that was my first sketchboook ever. All the first anthyy creations were created there. i still have this notebook its very near to my heart and now and then i sketch a bit in it to see my own growth.
But when it comes to this look you can see this is a very diffrent than a lot of my fashions. All because of the style, the bucket, the template, the line art it all went to trash this week and i showed you pure anthy uysing the acricic paint brush - the same as Olga in her original painting from 1894. I am the little girl from the painting literally, hair mug DOWN. I just did not put her in an ufgly potato sac and instead ina very cute little dress. Baby is this a funeral of other girls carreeerS? cause im overflowing with chrysanthemums.

Critiques
Micro: Queens, excellent work this week! This week, you competed in teams. But tonight, you'll be judged individually.
Read the critiques here!
Micro: Thank you queens. While Hex and I deliberate, you may all head backstage to Untucked.
Untucked
the queens enter Untucked
🏁 Unieke CF: My team put their trust into me this week, it's the best feeling to know I helped elevate us to the peak of our abilities. I'm not putting the horse in front of the car or whatever the saying is, but I think this might be my week to win!
Zodya: To those who can actually sit down in your looks, I envy you.
gtGIRL bounces in her apple
Zodya: How does everyone feel about their critiques?
Contessa: There are certain challenges where you feel like it's just not your week. I thought that might be the case here. I try not to get too emotional, I think it causes premature aging. But I let go tonight and it really resonated. This week will always hold a special place in my heart.
🏁 Contessa CF: People can get on my case about being "too confident". This was a week where I didn't feel all that confident. I learned a lot about myself and my capabilities. And for me, that means a lot.
Unieke: Oh, 100%. I get in my head all the time about being more than comedy and performing. I love to chat, but leading something like this was brand new for me.
Moof: And the critiques weren't too bad!
Unieke: I mean...my fingers are crossed!
🏁 Anthyy CF: I'm so happy for my sister. She got the love she deserves from the judges. I think I was part of her shining moment, so it's like I'm right there with her!
gtGIRL: Tiwa, you alright?
🏁 Tiwa CF: The critiques hit me like a train tonight. I knew I wasn't at the top of my game during the challenge, and I was ready to hear about that. But I was so excited to share this runway, and it got absolutely shredded. I felt like I finally got that gasp of air, only to be pushed back underwater.
Tiwa: It's getting harder and harder to get these critiques. It's no secret that I've been struggling for the past few weeks, but today was on another level. I've thought about leaving so many times, and I came close today.
Unieke: Leaving the competition?
Tiwa: Each week is reminding me more that saying yes to coming back might not have been the right choice. I'm so honored to be part of this group, and you've all been amazing, but it's really hard when you feel like you can't find your footing.
🏁 Contessa CF: I'm starting to worry about Tiwa. I've known her outside of this forever, but I feel like I'm seeing a version of her that I haven't seen before. I know her to be charismatic and fun, not someone who's the last to speak and go into her shell. I need to keep all my focus on the competition, but this is a real friendship and it's all I can think about right now.
Anthyy: I don't want you to quit. You've come too far, and you have so much more to show.
Tiwa: Do I? Everything I've shown so far has been mediocre at best.
Unieke: Don't say that. You've put the work in and we can all see that. Forget about the critiques, just focus on making sure you're proud of what you've created. Keep fighting, we know you can do this.
the queens return to the runway
Micro: Welcome back ladies! Based on your performances tonight, I've made some decisions.
🏁 Anthyy CF: Whenever I want honest feedback, I go to Hex. But tonight, I'm hoping Micro ignored her!
Micro: Tiwa. You are safe. You may step to the side of the stage.
Tiwa: Thank you.
🏁 Tiwa CF: I know I wasn't at the top of my game tonight. I could've done so much better, I don't know what's not clicking.
Micro: The rest of you represent the best and brightest of the week.
🏁 gtGIRL CF: This season is all about collecting banjos. And since we don't know what the next challenge will be, the last thing you want is to be blocked from getting a banjo. I hope I did enough to sneak into the top this week, just for that layer of protection.
🏁 Unieke CF: At first, being in the top was like "whaa, me?! You shouldn't have". But we're four challenges in. I need a banjo, and I need it now!
Micro: Count Contessa, Unieke. Congratulations, you are the top queens of the week! You have each won a highly coveted "Golden Banjo™️".
🏁 Contessa CF: She believed she could, so she did. Second banjo secured, it feels great!
🏁 Unieke CF: Ahhh, yes!! I still got it, let's give these girls something to be afraid of.
Micro: Anthyy, gtGIRL, Moof, Zodya. You are all safe and may step to the side of the stage.
🏁 Moof CF: I wanted this to be a winning week for me, I really did. I can't help but kick myself for letting go of the moderator role.
🏁 Anthyy CF: I might not be earning a banjo right now, but I still feel like I won in my own way. I gave my all to my team, and I couldn't be happier to see my girl Unieke snatch her first win!
Micro: Now, are the two of you ready for a lipsync battle?
Contessa Lipsync Look

Micro: Prior to tonight, you were asked to prepare a lipsync performance of "Prayer For The Broken" by the gorgeous and incomparable Naya Rivera.

Micro: And if you know me, you know I love this woman, so do it justice!
🏁 Contessa CF: I can't be the next Zodya. I need to win this one.
🏁 Unieke CF: Being on stage is where I feel the most comfortable. Winning this would prove to everyone that I can give it to you across the board.
Micro: The winner of the lipsync will earn the power to block one of their fellow queens from winning a banjo next week, so remember the power that's up for grabs!
🏁 Contessa CF: I've been blocked before. Thankfully, it didn't end up mattering. But when you have that block, you are very paranoid about your position in the competition. I want that power and to be the first person to make sure their block lands.
🏁 Unieke CF: The process of choosing groups for this challenge is exactly why I need to win this lipsync. There are distinct alliances in this group, I need to make my move to ensure my protection moving forward.
Micro: Good luck, and don't fuck it up!
Read the lipsync here!
Micro wipes away a tear and claps for both queens
Micro: Ladies, thank you for such a beautiful performance. I've made my decision.
...
...
Micro: Contessa. You're a winner, baby!
🏁 Contessa CF: Mwahaha, I have the power! We're reaching the point where frontrunners are emerging, this is the chance to shift the direction of the competition.
Micro: Unieke, thank you for the show.
Unieke: Anytime.
🏁 Unieke CF: Losing lipsyncs is certainly not something I enjoy, but I guess other people need time to shine. But if she wants a rematch, the outcome will be very different, know that.
Micro: Now, will all of the queens please step to the front of the stage.
🏁 gtGIRL CF: Every week, I'm expecting to be blocked. When I won a challenge, I blocked Contessa. This sorta feels like my fate has been sealed.
🏁 Tiwa CF: If Contessa doesn't want to play messy, she could block me. I wasn't as involved this week as I could've been, and I know that's in her mind somewhere.
🏁 Zodya CF: Remember who blocked you...remember who blocked you. Don't think about how I would've done the same, just think about who actually blocked you!
Micro: Contessa. With great power comes great responsibility. Which queen have you chosen...to block?
🏁 Contessa CF: I can't make this decision based on emotion. When we get to the end of this season, someone being blocked from a banjo might be what makes the difference between me going to the finale or them going.
Contessa: My first reason for blocking this person isn't actually their fault, it was Micro's. You stole my win so this is my revenge that is mistargeted. Secondly, you statistically have been doing the best and in a season about statistics I don't want you to get too ahead so early on. For those reasons, I am blocking...
...
Contessa: Miss Zodya Killa.
Zodya flutters her eyes and places her hands below her chin like she's about to win the ONLY toddler pageant
🏁 Zodya CF: The chance of moving the target off of me and onto gtGIRL was slim. I thought maybe it might happen, but here we are. We took a step forward earlier with our friendship, and now she's taken multiple steps back.
Micro: Zodya. I'm sorry my dear, but you have been blocked. You will still compete in the challenge next week, and you can still win. However, you will not be eligible to earn a highly coveted "Golden Banjo™️".
Zodya: Can I ask one teeny tiny question?
Micro: You may.
Zodya: If Contessa blocked me, does that mean I don't have to hear from her for the next week?
Unieke: My god...
🏁 Unieke CF: Could bring a tear to my eye, they learn so quickly!
Micro: Well, that would be a restraining order, but I can't wait to see how this brings the two of you closer.
Zodya: Can't wait!
Micro: As we approach the halfway point in this competition, keep your eye on the prize, and remember the one of a kind talents that brought you this far.
🏁 Tiwa CF: I'm going into this next week knowing just how high the stakes are. I've had a rocky journey here, but if there's a chance to make a comeback while everyone else is engulfed in the drama, that's the time to strike. I'm not letting go of this opportunity.
Micro: Now, let the music play!
"Banjo" by BeBe Zahara Benet begins to play
Next Time on Micro's Drag Race: All Winners
Micro: Be afraid, be very afraid! This week, you'll be investigating the dark unsolved mysteries of...The Lost Season.
Moof: This is scary, this is terrifying, this is something we may not all survive.
Contessa: If anyone doesn't make it out alive, know that I hate all of you equally.
🏁 Unieke CF: I was there...it wasn't all that bad, chile. Snap out of it!

2024.05.01 18:51 Starfleet_Stowaway Teaming in Battle-Royale Video Games: From Prohibition to Skillful Regulation

Abstract: This article provides an analysis of “teaming,” or allying with a competitor, in battle-royale video games. Allying with a competitor is a normal strategy in social-deduction games, but it is often considered to be cheating in battle royale. Persistent complaints about teaming can be seen across a variety of social media platforms. This article surveys the controversy and outlines the major attempts to address such problems, including developer changes to matchmaking systems, automated moderation and opposition to stream sniping. These approaches are substantially successful, and yet there appear to be social and ludic conditions that make teaming an intractable problem. This article appeals to established economic and typological analyses of game goals to rethink the social dilemma of teaming in battle royale. The thesis argues that the major attempts to address the problem of teaming typically assume teaming is necessarily an unskilled strategy that circumvents the game goal of having a sporting contest of skills, but a comprehensive analysis of teaming allows us to recognize that it is conceptually possible to design regulatory mechanisms for teaming such that teaming requires skill. The conclusion begins to chart future research on sporting designs for regulating teaming.

Introduction

“Cross-teaming” or simply “teaming” in competitive multiplayer games is a strategy wherein a competitor temporarily cooperates with another competitor. Teaming is a central feature of social-deduction games centered on cunning negotiations, alliances and betrayals, for example the boardgame Diplomacy (Wizards of the Coast, 1954), the party game Mafia (Davidoff, 1986), the card game Are You a Werewolf? (Looney Labs, 1997) and the video game Among Us (Innersloth, 2018). In battle-royale video games, however, teaming has been a popular form of cheating. Battle-royale games are competitive, multiplayer survival games in which the last competitor alive wins the game. A match of battle royale typically has a large number of competitors in an arena with a variety of weapons. There are various game mechanics to decrease hiding/ camping and increase encounters between competitors, for example shrinking the arena area over time. Teaming in battle royale can provide a major advantage by allowing two competitors to outnumber a third competitor.

The analysis in this article begins with a brief history of battle royale and the crux of the problem with teaming. Teaming is a volatile practice that is randomized by the whims of other competitors, so teaming appears to provide an advantage based on luck within an otherwise sporting contest of skills. Players of battle royale use social media to complain about teaming, and game designers have addressed this problem in a variety of innovative ways inspired by both popular and academic conversations. However, illicit teaming remains a significant problem for the gaming community. How can we complicate our understanding of this problem and address it in new ways?

There are nuanced theoretical frameworks for unpacking the dynamics of teaming. The analysis in this article introduces and combines existing scholarship on the economics and typology of game goals. Jonas Heide Smith (2007) argues that cheating in online video games gives rise to a social dilemma, and I show how Smith’s economic framework can be extended to illicit teaming. Debus, Zagal and Cardona-Rivera (2020) argue that the goals of video games can be deeply equivocal, and I extend their analysis to consider alternate ways of framing the social dilemma of teaming. I argue that in the case of battle-royale video games, game developers have been largely prohibitive of teaming, but combining Smith with Debus et al. allows us to recognize that there can also be permissive and regulativeapproaches to teaming that substantially address the social dilemma. The major attempts to address the problem of teaming typically assume teaming is necessarily an unskilled strategy that circumvents the game goal of having a sporting contest of skills, but a comprehensive analysis of teaming allows us to recognize that it is conceptually possible to design regulatory mechanisms for teaming such that teaming requires skill. This article concludes by gesturing toward skillful regulatory mechanisms for addressing the social dilemma of teaming, including the innovative mechanism of “assimilation” in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 (Raven Software and Infinity Ward, 2022).

Battle Royale and Illicit Teaming

Teaming has been a part of battle royale since its inception. According to Teemu Pesonen’s article “The History of Battle Royale Esports” (2023), the Japanese film Battle Royale (Fukasaku, 2000) inspired the video-game genre. The plot of the film includes a government forcing students to fight each other to the death on an island, where only the last student alive may leave the island. The film also clearly includes cunning betrayals and alliances between competitors.

The genre of battle royale was further popularized by the American film The Hunger Games (Ross, 2012). Pesonen tells us that The Hunger Games directly inspired the first battle-royale modification for the video game Minecraft(Mojang Studios, 2011). In 2013 Brendan Greene, also known as “PlayerUnknown,” developed a mod called “DayZ: Battle Royale,” a battle-royale modification for the video game Arma II (Bohemia Interactive, 2012). Greene was inspired by other Arma II mods like Brian Hicks’ and Jordan Taylor’s mod for Arma II, “DayZ: Survivor Gamez” (McCarthy, 2017), and Green introduced to the battle-royale genre “items and weapons that were randomly spread across the map” (Pesonen, 2023). The first battle-royale video game to be officially published was PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (Krafton, 2017). The collaborative, online, multiplayer-vs-environment, survival video game Fortnite (Epic Games, 2017) added a dedicated mode for battle royale within a year of its release, contributing to the battle-royale genre both in-game building mechanics and cross-platform play.

Other major battle-royale games include Vigor (Bohemia Interactive, 2018), Apex Legends (Respawn Entertainment, 2019) and Call of Duty: Warzone (Raven Software and Infinity Ward, 2020), but I will foreground Fortnite for illustration. Fortnite debuted right when teaming was exploding in popularity in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, but unlike Battlegrounds, Fortnite was initially designed to be a cooperative game, and elements of this cooperative spirit made it into the battle-royale mode, including the ability to communicate with others by dancing with them and expressing emotions. Fortnite’s battle-royale mode also implicitly encourages teaming insofar as it regularly awards prizes like virtual clothing and accessories to competitors who complete non-competitive challenges (for example, Dance on a Giant Cup of Coffee), which often leads to competitors cooperating until they can complete the challenge.

The most common, overt way to initiate teaming in Fortnite is to stop fighting and start dancing. If the dancing is reciprocated, the two competitors have indicated to one another that they want to cooperate temporarily. Other overt ways to initiate teaming include disarming yourself in front of a competitor, dropping healing items, building heart-shaped constructs and rapidly switching between ducking and standing stances. Subtle ways to initiate teaming can include pretending not to see someone, running away instead of attacking and defensively “boxing up” (hiding in your own building) without taking opportunities to attack. In each of these cases the initiation procedures take place during a match. However, teaming can also occur prior to a match when two or more people communicate their intention to first enter a match as competitors and then cooperate by identifying one another via coded behavior, for example meeting at a certain location or using peculiar virtual clothing.

Unlike a sporting contest of skills, teaming in battle royale currently has deeply random elements from beginning to end. The tension between a sporting contest of skills and random game elements goes to the heart of the controversy around teaming. Attempting to initiate teaming is a gamble. Dancing, disarming or deliberately passing up opportunities to attack exposes vulnerabilities. Competitors have short-term incentive to eliminate anyone who is initiating teaming because the initiator’s defenses are down. Not everyone has an equal opportunity to team because reciprocation relies on the whims of others. Even when there is an established collusion, there is still an incentive to be the first to betray the other, which makes the long-term benefits of teaming precarious. If teamers are the last competitors in a match, a competitor may betray the other, eliminate themselves or wait until environmental damage randomly decides who wins. Ultimately, teaming introduces a volatile element of luck into a sporting competition of skill.

Controversies and Proposed Solutions

I searched for and surveyed comments about the teaming controversy on live-streams, blog archives, developer patch notes and game-specific discussion forums, including twitch.com, youtube.com, bohemia.net, hypixel.net and reddit.com. This article only cites about two dozen posts and forums, but I believe these sources on teaming are representative of the thousands of ephemeral commentaries I have seen across a variety of platforms. The arguments both for and against teaming display strong emotion (sleaches, 2020; Seahawks12, 2022; ThatOneRedditBro, 2022; Clix, 2023). In my assessment there is a general trend in the dispute. Across the major battle-royale games, game players have complained about teaming for being an unfair advantage and, usually, against the official rules. Posts that defend teaming may be dismissive of the seriousness of casual teaming, but these defenses can also be passionate appeals to the enjoyability of cunning alliances and betrayals (successXX, 2016; Emble12, 2021; SzzzMK47, 2021). Fans who defend teaming have been insultingly dismissed as unskilled competitors who can only win by cheating. The controversy over teaming has led game designers to propose a number of creative solutions, but the persistence of teaming despite these innovations speaks to the practical intractability of this problem.

Certain solutions to illicit teaming speak to the perceived motivations of teaming. Early in the teaming controversy, developers discerned in teaming a simple desire on the part of solo competitors to compete in teams, and the result has been optional game modes for legitimate team-based battle royale, namely Duos, Trios or Quads. However, illicit teaming continued to be common in Solos as well as team-based modes. Another widespread interpretation of teaming is that it is used by unskilled competitors who simply want a sporting chance against vastly higher-skilled players, and the result has been skill-based matchmaking, wherein competitors are matched equally according to an automated index of their perceived skill. Teaming remained common.

Game designers have attempted to prevent teaming by addressing the tools used for teaming. Competitors who can communicate prior to joining the matchmaking queue may conspire to join the queue at the exact same time, which increases the odds of getting into the same match and allows the competitors to find one another to team. This problem led game designers to implement a randomized matchmaking time-delay so that it does not matter when someone joins the queue (swapode, 2017). Game designers may also use a filter to prevent competitors from entering the same match if they are one another’s “Friends” list. Streamers have proposed anonymizing competitor names and appearances to prevent this kind of teaming (Amos, 2019). These approaches have been effective, but teaming remained a substantial problem.

Matches can also contain automated moderators that help gaming communities police teaming. In the article “Collusion Detection in Team-Based Multiplayer Games” the authors Laura Greige, Fernando De Mesentier Silva, Meredith Trotter, Chris Lawrence, Peter Chin and Dilip Varadarajan explain how automatic moderation works to help catch teamers in tournaments (Greige et al., 2022). Competitors who use teaming to climb the ranks of a tournament show an improbable consistency in their respective match rankings over time. Therefore, automated moderators compare gameplay data over several matches to identify these improbable correlations and flag competitors. The moderator assigns to a pair of competitors a higher index of teaming the more frequently that those two competitors begin a match close to one another, stay close to one another and end a match with similar ranking. The goal of automatic moderation is to select cases for further review by human moderators. A majority (but not all) of the cases flagged by the automated moderator were confirmed by human moderators to be genuine cases of teaming, so the system is largely effective. However, automatic moderation does not necessarily aspire to perfection or even to identify collusion itself. Rather, automatic moderation works by identifying the probability that two competitors are colluding, “Hence, human intervention is still essential and further investigation by human experts is required before taking any enforcement action against the potential colluders flagged by our model” (Greige et al., 2022, p. 13).

Human moderators may observe or review matches in order to remove competitors who act like teamers, that is, competitors who are in proximity, do not attack one another and/ or simultaneously attack a third party. Unfortunately, these are also the behaviors of legitimate competitors who are camping, stealthy, short on resources (if not empty), low on health and/ or ambushing ongoing fights, namely “third-partying.” Complaints about people who ambush ongoing fights consider this tactic to be unsporting, but it would make no sense to demand that such an integral strategy should be banned from battle royale simply due to its affinity with teaming. It is not possible to entirely prevent the appearance of teaming because teaming is an implied product of games where players must be selective about which competitors they move against. When competitors in the end game must be selective about which other two competitors they move against, two competitors can have a legitimate ceasefire and mutual third target without any intention to team. Competitors complain about being removed from matches or even banned due to moderators mistaking their legitimate behavior for teaming (simon-whitehead, 2020). The intention to team can be difficult to discern even for human moderators.

One curious case of persistent, illicit teaming is one-way teaming. This occurs when a competitor helps another competitor without their consent. This typically happens when a fan of a streamer gets into the same match as the streamer, and the fan (while watching the live-stream) does whatever they can to benefit the streamer--leaving resources in their path, healing them from a distance (for example, with health splashes), or intentionally getting eliminated by the streamer (thus awarding the streamer loot and credit for the elimination). Sometimes this is benign, like when fans enter a streamer’s match only to build heart-shaped constructs for them to see, but this form of teaming can cause significant social friction.

In April of 2023, Epic Games banned the Fortnite streamer Cody “Clix” Conrod for two weeks due to illicit teaming (Gan, 2023). This meant that Clix was also effectively banned for the following lucrative Fortnite Championship Series tournaments. The teaming occurred due to the actions of a stream sniper who healed and supplied Clix largely without Clix’s consent (Gan, 2023). Stream sniping refers to a competitor watching another competitor’s live stream to see what their competitor sees. In this case the stream sniper was a malevolent troll with an account named “N1 Clix Hater,” and the troll was likely deliberately trying to get Clix banned (Clix, 2023). However, the penalties would be the same if the one-way teaming was from a benevolent fan. Clix admits some responsibility for teaming because Clix solicited certain helpful behavior from the stream sniper over the live stream, although this solicitation was solely to catch the sniper in the act of stream sniping, that is, to get them banned (Clix, 2023).

One-way teaming had a lasting impact on Clix. Following the end of the two-week ban, Clix streamed his first match, and a competitor began healing him with the same splash items that “N1 Clix Hater” used. For fear of being banned again, Clix started screaming out loud and running from the one-way teamer to avoid the appearance of receiving a competitor’s beneficial items (again), then Clix abruptly backtracked to aggressively attack the one-way teamer for fear of appearing to be too non-confrontational or even intentionally leading the teamer. Audience members joked that Clix had a flashback from the PTSD of being banned, but Clix has made it clear to his viewers that being banned from the tournament really was a deeply serious, extremely stressful event for him (Clix, 2023). It was a serious threat to his career and reputation, and more generally it highlights the way in which streamers have a real burden of altering their gameplay to avoid the appearance of benefiting from one-way teamers.

These cases suggest that despite the attempts to address the controversy over teaming by appealing to competitors’ desires behind teaming, by moderating matches and by avoiding stream snipers, teaming remains an intractable problem for the battle-royale community. The teaming controversy lies in a tension between competitors’ desire for a sporting contest of skills in a battle-royale format on one hand, and on the other hand the fact that battle royale is basically, structurally permissive of nonsporting conditions like the volatile dynamics of teaming or third-partying. The basic setup of the battle royale genre seems to make teaming--however impermissible--always theoretically possible.

Collective Action Theory and Social Dilemmas

In the article “Tragedies of the Ludic Commons--Understanding Cooperation in Multiplayer Games,” the author Jonas Heide Smith uses collective action theory to understand how competitive games have cooperative aspects that give rise to social dilemmas (Smith, 2007). Understanding how these social dilemmas work is important for addressing social problems like cheating in online multiplayer games, including illicit teaming. Collective action theory is an economic lens that identifies the individualistic and cooperative forces in the production of collective goods. Individuals may have an incentive to enjoy the benefits of a collective good without contributing to its production, but without enough individuals cooperatively contributing, no individual could enjoy the benefits of a collective good. In this case there is a social dilemma, that is, when the individual and collective incentives are at odds in the production of a collective good.

An illustrative social dilemma is the problem of commons. This problem occurs when a collective good like global, environmental stability requires cooperation in, for example, not exterminating the last of any rare resource (like an endangered species), but the rarer a resource is, the more individuals are incentivized to capitalize on the resource. Social dilemmas are conflicts between a group and its individual members where individual members can benefit from “free-riding” so long as not so many members “free-ride” that the good of the group collapses, in which case there would be no benefit for any members. What counts as “free-riding” can vary greatly--Smith mentions cheating, griefing and irresponsible play (Smith, 2007). Here I am concerned with cheating as a social dilemma to better understand teaming.

On my reading of Smith’s analysis, cheating is a form of free-riding in a social dilemma insofar as cheating allows a competitor to gain a good--winning--at the cost of a greater collective good--having a sporting contest of skills. To clarify, team-based games normatively require cooperation between the members of a given team for the collective good of a team, namely winning. However, Smith points out that there is also a normative cooperation between otherwise competing teams because the greater collective good is a sporting contest of skills. Competitors cooperatively agree not to cheat to win, and this preserves the greater good of having sporting contest of skills. The collective good of a sporting contest of skills is greater than simply winning in the sense that a sporting contest can be enjoyed by all competitors, even losing teams. If players cheat, the contest is no longer about skills, so the remaining good is winning, and the collective good of a sporting contest of skills entirely collapses.

The use of a social-dilemma framework to address the problem of teaming has already been started by Rheem, Cho and Verma (Rheem et al., 2019). Here we have the idea that teaming can be prevented by interrupting the communication between teamers. For example, if competitors typically spin in place or rapidly duck and stand to initiate teaming, then perhaps matches could include bots (artificially intelligent competitors) who imitate this behavior but do not follow through on teaming. This would confuse competitors about which attempts to team are genuine, ultimately dissuading competitors from teaming. Other ideas from Rheem et al. include rushing competitors, separating competitors at the beginning of a match and separating competitors who have been previously flagged for teaming. Ultimately, it is important to dissuade teaming by altering the conditions of initial contact between competitors. I think Rheem et al.’s work can be extended further if we combine it with Smith’s analysis of collective goods and cheating in social dilemmas.

Illicit teaming, as a form of cheating, is a form of free-riding, and we might address teaming by applying Smith’s solutions. Smith first considers government as a solution to social dilemmas. Government would be parallel to the moderators of a match, that is, catching and banning teamers. However, we have seen above that teaming is a problem for even human moderators because teaming can appear identical to legitimate strategies at the end of a match. I would argue that Smith’s conceptual parallel for this problem is offensive-language censorship in online games, wherein Smith argues that moderators do not have a perfect way of determining what is sufficiently offensive to warrant censorship.

Smith also considers how “a group of principals can organize themselves voluntarily to retain the residuals of their own efforts” (Elinor Ostrom quoted in Smith, 2007). This solution primarily works when there is “a certain degree of permanence, the possibilities of monitoring the actions of other community members, and the prospect of future interaction” (Smith, 2007). In other words, like real marketplaces, cooperation is often obtained through systems of accountable reputation over time, for example, rating systems for online vendors/ buyers or for ride-share drivers/ passengers. Someone’s reputation for teaming may lead to their exclusion from a private clan, guild or association of battle-royale gamers.

Smith’s variety of solutions can be synthesized and extended to a wider, public base of players if competitors were to rate each over time in conjunction with automated moderators, perhaps leading to a reputation-based matchmaking system that parallels skill-based matchmaking. Reputation-based matchmaking could reward honest competitors by systematically matching them with other honest competitors and vice versa. Competitors who are repeatedly flagged for teaming might be matched more frequently with others who are flagged for teaming (as opposed to banning them). Of course, there would be disingenuous raters, but another system could filter out raters with anomalous behavior. Another difficulty would be applying such matchmaking to any game with anonymous competitors who can create new accounts to avoid the consequences of their reputation, but battle-royale games could require everyone to submit a verifiable personal identification to decrease the abuse of such fraudulent sock-puppet accounts. This is an extreme but not implausible solution to illicit teaming.

The Typology of Game Goals

Extending Smith’s economic framework to battle royale allowed us to imagine the extreme limits of solutions to illicit teaming as a social dilemma. One way to go beyond these limits is to rethink our implicit assumptions about the split goal of battle royale, namely winning and competing in a sporting contest of skills. What counts as a sporting contest of skills? Or, what counts as an even battlefield? To address this issue, we can begin with a broader theoretical examination of goals in games.

In the article “A Typology of Imperative Game Goals,” the authors Michael S. Debus, José P. Zagal and Rogelio E. Cardona-Rivera unpack the theoretical problem of what counts as the goal of a game (Debus et al., 2020). It can be easy to confuse a game’s goal with its end, with preventing its end, with getting points, with winning, with improving skills or with having a sporting contest of skills--these are very different things. There can exist a typology of game goals, but it must account for equivocations in casually framed goals. The authors note that the goal to “survive” or win in “the context of battle royale games” can be conceptually split between avoiding elimination and eliminating others, whether aggressively or passively (Debus et al., 2020).

Debus et al.’s analysis of surviving or winning can be extended to the goal of having a sporting contest of skills. I argue that it is important to recognize that a sporting contest of skills is conceptually split between a contest of skills where no competitor has an advantage on one hand and a contest where competitors use skills (not random conditions) to obtain an advantage on the other hand. This distinction allows us to recognize that the prohibition against teaming as “unfair” relies almost entirely on the first sense of a sporting contest of skills, that is, a contest where no competitor has an advantage. An extension of Debus et al.’s analysis allows us to see that this popular objection to teaming is not necessarily valid. If competitors must use skills to obtain an advantageous position, then it can be entirely sporting for one competitor to have an advantage over the other. Of course, the prohibition against teaming assumes that it takes no skill to obtain a cooperating competitor because the opportunity to team is randomly decided by the whims of competitors. But is this assumption valid? If we put Debus et al. together with Smith, we can raise the important question, is there a way to design battle royale such that skills are required for teaming?

Skillfully Regulating Teaming in Battle Royale

There are battle-royale video games that prohibit most forms of teaming yet permit teaming under specific conditions, and these games can contain mechanisms for skillfully regulating teaming to preserve a sporting contest of skills. For example, in 2020 the battle-royale mod of Fortnite added a recruiting mechanism that enables an artificially intelligent, Non-player character (NPC) to be hired to cooperate for the duration of the match (Çakir, 2021). These AI-controlled NPCs are not necessarily competitors, but they are potential competitors insofar as anyone can hire them to fight on their team. This mechanism satisfies the desire to recruit without entirely spoiling a contest of skills in Fortnite because the skill level of NPCs is artificially kept quite low. NPCs often clumsily expose the location of whoever hired them, which balances out the advantage they provide. Further, anyone may hire an NPC, so there is an equal opportunity to team. However, the number of hirable NPCs in a given location is limited, which makes the opportunity to team with an NPC somewhat precarious. This NPC-recruiting mechanism has the effect of making each match into a race to hire the only NPC in a given location, which then significantly skews the following fights. Yet, there is significant skill involved in a race to hire an NPC. In Fortnite this race looks like competitors skillfully timing their jump from a moving starting point (a flying autobus) and skillfully timing their deployment of a paraglider to get to a location as efficiently as possible. The NPC-recruiting mechanism is a small but not insignificant step toward regulating teaming such that obtaining a cooperative competitor requires skill, namely the skill of racing to a location as efficiently as possible. Nevertheless, there remain substantial concerns that hired NPCs ruin the fairness of the game (IMainSpyAndImNoWeeb, 2023; emotx, 2023).

The battle-royale video game Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 (Raven Software and Infinity Ward, 2022) introduced a skillful regulatory mechanism for teaming called “assimilation” (Rain et al., 2022). There are four regulatory features of the assimilation mechanism. First, there is a communication option to explicitly invite a competitor to one’s team. The invited person can explicitly accept or reject the invitation to join the team. Second, the game prevents members of a team from damaging their teammates, and this mutual immunity extends to assimilated competitors. Third, assimilation is limited to teams that have lost a teammate. A player can assimilate as many competitors as teammates they have lost and no more. This also means that assimilation does not work in Solo competition modes. This mechanism prevents teaming from spoiling the contest of skills by keeping the maximum size of official teams consistent. Of course, it is still random whether or not a competitor accepts an invitation to team. Even when faced with the choice to be eliminated or cooperate with a competitor, players may simply choose to be eliminated, for example in order to spite an enemy or in order to begin a new match with the friends they had been playing with. A fourth feature of assimilation is that an assimilated competitor can choose to leave their team at any time. This is problematic for a sporting contest of skills insofar as it unevenly enables cunning betrayals through surprise defection. Of course, these regulatory mechanisms do not prevent unofficial, illicit teaming over the maximum size-permitted limit, but such illicit teaming would not have the protection of mutual immunity.

In November and December of 2022, Warzone 2.0 contained a Trios mode named “Unhinged” wherein the assimilation feature was no longer limited to a three-person team but a six-person team, meaning double the capacity of initial team sizes (Morton, 2022). In my view of player responses on reddit.com, Unhinged was polarizing for the Warzone fanbase (Boynus, 2022; Handbrake55, 2022; Infinitely_Infinity, 2022; Pmmeyourrocks, 2022; u/[deleted], 2022; C4ptainchr0nic, 2023). Defenders of Unhinged typically appealed to the fun of cunning alliances and betrayals, while others gave the usual complaints about teaming as an unskilled strategy.

Why was Unhinged removed from Warzone 2.0 on 14 December 2022? Fans of Unhinged wondered why they could not have an Unhinged mode while the complainers play a different mode more to their liking. We can make educated guesses about what happened based on player complaints. Unhinged had a problematic social and gameplay dynamic. First, players reported an increase in toxic communication (ThatOneRedditBro, 2022). Warzone 2.0 contains a mechanism called proximity chat wherein competitors can talk with one another if they are close enough to each other. This mechanism can be turned off, but proximity chat provides an advantage for inviting a competitor to team up, so Unhinged included more use of proximity chat relative to other game modes (SirDankz, 2022). The dynamics of competition and moreover betrayal seems to have encouraged toxic proximity chat between competitors. Complaints include the use of racial slurs. This made Unhinged extra problematic for popular streaming platforms that prohibited racist content. It is easy to imagine that the Unhinged mode was a liability in this sense, and I think proximity chat ultimately stifled the potential for Unhinged to further develop its explorations of regulated teaming via assimilation.

In terms of gameplay dynamics, players complained that the teaming dynamic in Unhinged effectively requires competitors to race to find a cooperative competitor if they are going to last to the end game, but not everyone can equally find a competitor. Competitors are incentivized to refuse cooperation in favor of betrayal to obtain the short-term benefits. Unlike Fortnite’s race to hire an NPC using a skillfully timed deployment, there was no parallel skill for racing to team up with another human competitor in Unhinged.

Conclusion

Further explorations in regulatory mechanisms for teaming can be developed on the basis of each element of teaming that would make it unskilled. Teaming is randomized or made unskilled by a number of things we can identify from the preceding analysis. We have seen that there has been randomness through an ambiguity in the communication of invitations to team, and the explicit invite function of assimilation resolves this issue. We have seen randomness in the whims of a teamer’s betrayal, and assimilation addresses this issue with mutual immunity to damage for competitors who accept an explicit invitation. Although assimilation currently allows teamers to defect at any time, which reintroduces the randomness of whimsical betrayals, it would be interesting to explore a mechanism that regulates defection by requiring a defection to be announced well ahead of time, say a thirty-second countdown until there is no more mutual immunity to damage. A defection countdown would eliminate the surprise element of defection.

Assimilation’s mechanism of explicit invitations currently does not address the randomness of the whims of competitor’s acceptance or rejection of an explicit invitation to team. However, the NPC-recruiting mechanism in Fortnite circumvents this randomness by forcing NPCs to accept the first invitation to team that they receive. We can easily imagine that assimilation can address the issue with human competitors similarly. When a competitor sends an explicit invitation to another competitor, a mechanism can make this invitation automatically accepted, immediately establishing damage immunity between the two competitors. Explicit invites would then be coercive invites, and the whims of the competitor’s interests in teaming no longer affect the opportunity to team.

I would argue that one current feature of assimilation is unnecessary to preserve a sporting contest of skills, namely a size cap on teams (inclusive of assimilated members). The idea of capping or limiting the combined size of a team is clearly meant to make the competition more even, but we have seen that a competition between unevenly sized teams can be sporting if teams use skills to retain teammates. Exploring the effects of different size caps for teaming would be interesting for future research, but a size cap is not necessarily needed to preserve a sporting contest of skills.

Given this robust revision of assimilation--coercive invitations, mutual immunity and a defection countdown but not necessarily with a size cap--the major randomizing elements of teaming are reduced, and skillful competition is preserved. However, new sets of issues emerge for the dynamics of teaming in battle royale, and game designers can benefit from exploring these new issues. I consider here a few questions for future research on the effects of skillful regulations of teaming in battle royale. What are different ways of regulating the duration of a coercive assimilation? What is the effect of implementing an indefinite duration until one member announces their defection? What is the effect of implementing a forced automatic defection of any assimilated members at the end of a match? What is the effect of establishing a determinate, short amount of time before auto-defection? What happens if competitors are given one or more options to renew their alliance? How can the ability to send a coercive invitation be distributed among players? What is the effect of giving players one or multiple chances to extend a coercive invitation at the beginning of the match? What happens if the ability to send a coercive invitation is regulated by possessing an in-game item to be found in the arena? What impact does the number of such items available make? How might the race to such items be regulated to require skills? What happens if an assimilated member can send a coercive invitation to a third party, and how might damage immunity be distributed in such a chain of assimilation? That is, if a first competitor coercively invites a second competitor, and the second competitor coercively invites a third competitor, do the first and third competitors have mutual immunity for the duration of the first assimilation? How can cooperation be encouraged between a coercive inviter and an assimilated member? What happens if teaming competitors receive bonuses by remaining proximate to one another? What happens if they receive penalties for straying too far from their teammates?

Finally, I want to note that robust mechanisms for skillfully regulating teaming can exist alongside prohibitions against teaming outside of these mechanisms, and in such a case skillfully regulating teaming would not really solve the intractable problem of illicit teaming. However, perhaps a well-regulated avenue for teaming would satisfy much of the desire to team, and there might be less incentive to team illicitly when official teaming offers sufficient protection against random betrayals. It remains to be seen how regulating the outlet of players’ drive to team will affect players’ engagement with prohibitive teaming.

2004 - On the same day as Michael's arraignment, there was another far less public event unfolding that could have had a future impact on the Jackson case. Serious allegations of a pattern of abuses among Santa Barbara law enforcement and the DA's office, including District Attorney Tom Sneddon, were made by Santa Barbara County dentist, Thambiah Sundaram, in an interview on Online Legal Review Talk Radio. Sneddon is the DA prosecuting the case against Michael. In the interview, conducted by Ron Sweet, Sundaram stated that there was opposition to a non-profit medical clinic he operated.
Sundaram said that when city officials were unable to shut down his clinic, he was arrested on multiple counts, including impersonating a doctor, grand theft, and malicious mischief. Sundaram's wife was arrested, as well. An employee at the clinic was also charged, of committing a drive-by shooting. Neither Sundaram, his wife nor the employee were convicted. Sundaram said that he eventually (1996) won a judgment against Sneddon and the DA's office for a substantial, six-figure amount, for causes including conspiracy, false imprisonment, and other violations of his civil rights.
Sundaram's allegations against Sneddon were serious, in that he also claimed to have heard, first-hand, statements by Sneddon and others in the DA's office that suggest that Santa Barbara police persecution of innocent citizens is planned, common, and often racially motivated. Sundaram said that in 1994, he attended a fund-raising event with Tom Sneddon and other city officials, where ways to "get Michael Jackson out of the county" were discussed. He alleges that some of Sneddon's friends wanted Michael's 2,700 acres to turn into a vineyard.Wine making is the leading agricultural industry in Santa Barbara
Racist remarks were allegedly made on that occasion. According to Sundaram, other alleged vendettas were discussed as well, to the extent where he said it resembled a Mafia planning session. He also alleges that authorities laughed & joked about passing around pictures of Michael's genitalia from the 1993 strip search. These pictures were supposed to be sealed but were not, as Geraldo Rivera later confirmed
Sundaram's allegations are not an isolated instance. There have been many complaints and lawsuits against the Santa Barbara DA's office. The new counts against Michael may be consistent with a pattern that Santa Barbara defense attorney Gary Dunlap has called "stacking charges."
Dunlap said:
". . . I mean, it's one thing to be charged with one crime and have a trial and be acquitted on it, but the district attorney in Santa Barbara has a policy that if they throw enough charges against you, the jury is bound to convict you on something."
This information reveals a new side to the case against Michael. The extent of the law suits for false arrests, false imprisonments, condoning of excessive force by the police, tampering with evidence, and multiple civil rights violations suggests a culture of corruption among Santa Barbara law-enforcement. The taxpayers of Santa Barbara have paid substantial settlements in these cases.
When Dunlap was asked, in his interview, to comment on the Jackson case, he said that he had no opinion one way or another on the case. However, he went on to say:
". . . the very fact that he's being prosecuted by Sneddon's office does not cause me to have any reason to believe that he's guilty in that, because of what I know about the district attorney's office, I know that they do vindictive prosecutions on a routine basis."
2009 - Michael goes to Dr Klein’s in Beverly Hills.
2009 - Conrad Murray ordered injectable (IV) Lorazepam & Midazolam.
Per the National Library Of Medicine:
Midazolam injection is used before medical procedures and surgery to cause drowsiness, relieve anxiety, and prevent any memory of the event. It is also sometimes given as part of the anesthesia during surgery to produce a loss of consciousness. Midazolam injection is also used to cause a state of decreased consciousness in seriously ill people in intensive care units (ICU) who are breathing with the help of a machine. Midazolam injection is in a class of medications called benzodiazepines. It works by slowing activity in the brain to allow relaxation and decreased consciousness
Midazolam injection may cause serious or life-threatening breathing problems such as shallow, slowed, or temporarily stopped breathing that may lead to permanent brain injury or death. **You should only receive this medication in a hospital or doctor's office that has the equipment that is needed to monitor your heart and lungs and to provide life-saving medical treatment quickly if your breathing slows or stops.**Your doctor or nurse will watch you closely after you receive this medication to make sure that you are breathing properly
On 6/27/09, Murray told the police that 3 days before Michael’s death he “introduced” Lorazepam & Midazolam in an effort to “wean” MJ off Propofol.
Prosecutor: In the last 3 days, according to Dr. Murray, he was attempting to wean Mr. Jackson off Propofol. What did Dr. Murray tell you he did?
Detective Orlando Martinez: Dr. Murray said he lowered the amount of Propofol that he usually gave Mr. Jackson and INTRODUCED Midazolam and Lorazepam to help Mr. Jackson sleep.
If Conrad Murray “introduced” Lorazepam and Midazolam in an effort to “wean” Michael off Propofol starting June 22 then why was he ordering these drugs way back in April?

2024.04.27 01:47 Loltrakor Getting into jump training

I’m a 17 yo 5’6” guy and I would consider myself bouncy. I’ve been weight training for over two years but nothing jump-focused. Right now I can just touch the rim which would give me a 34-inch running vert, given that my standing reach is 86 inches.
I started watching Isaiah Rivera videos and have been working sporadically on my vertical with max approach jumps and stuff, but I want to integrate things like plyometrics and isometrics into my workouts so that I can build a routine around it.
Does anyone have advice for how I should start? Maybe a video I can watch or a training program I could follow? It’s a dream of mine to dunk a basketball and I think I have the right elements to do it, I just need a concrete plan

2024.04.24 19:52 CompetitiveBuy3108 Converting free video files to earning more gems hack

Just thought I’d make a post to help out since I’ve noticed a few enquiries about it now. You can turn your unused free video files (when playing the game of love) in your rewards wallet into gems!
This only works with matches from the original selection on Winked, since they all have videos (they no longer make videos for new matches, since mid 2022 onwards). Basically, match with any of the male/female matches I’ve listed below. If there’s any of them you don’t like and can afford to gem farm, they’d be great for this hack. Just tap on their profiles as soon as you match, go under their videos, unlock the 2 files, and you’ve earned 150 gems.
Repeat the process as many times as you’d like by clicking the rotational arrow icon to start the storyline again :) This can also be done for audios, since I believe they also don’t create new ones anymore. If you want to know which matches have a few audios only, let me know (one of them is Teddy Hart who has 3, you can earn 100 gems from unlocking all of his.)
The matches who have videos, who can be used for this:
Male: - Aaron Mille Mr. M/ Marcus Jones - Alex Wilson/ Tae-Hyun Bak/ Javon Jameson - Camden Ellis/ Nur Naqvi - Connor Calloway/ Brandon Ackerman/ Dev Bridges - Damon Hunt/ Aki Yang/ Marcel Amos - Edward Lincoln/ Reuben Zackery/ Carlos Medina - Jordan Rivera/ Dominic Alonso - Jun Tsukuyomi/ Ayato Mochizuki - Logan Carte Theo Payne/ Victor August - Matt Davis/ Noah Johnson/ Josh MacAdams - Peter Lambert/ Roy Thacke Andrew Lin - Ryan Melnikoff/ Dorian D’Angelo/ Liam Green
Female: - Aniyah Diamond/ Kailee Betancourt/ Paula Moretti - Brooke Rose/ Luisa Rosales - Gabriella Allard/ Lizzy Anderson/ Bailey Morrish - Sophia Campbell/ Ela Dewan/ Xola Simmons
Premium matches: - Blake - Lucas - Nikolai
Happy playing! 💕 Also keep in mind that for one free video/ image/ audio file, you need to collect 5 tickets in the game of love.

2024.04.21 05:43 Alien_Mysteries Gag Order or Miscommunication?

In the show, retired Baltimore homicide detective Michael Baier and Rivera’s wife say that after Rivera’s body was found, Stansberry refused to return calls from investigators and put a “gag order” on employees to keep them from talking.
“It’s completely a lie,” Stansberry said. “It’s not a matter of opinion. It’s a lie.”
He said only that employees were told to refer media inquiries to a spokesperson. He said he personally spoke with a detective on June 23, 2006, which was after Baier was reassigned and when another detective, Marvin Sydnor, had the case.
Allison Rivera said Tuesday that her information about Stansberry not cooperating came from Baier.

Det. Baier misspoke when he used the term “gag order”.
Only a judge can set forth and enforce a gag order. An example is the recent Trump case in the news.
“Employees were told to refer media inquiries to a spokesperson.”
Stansberry runs a media company that includes having a spokesperson.
“All three friends were transported to the Homicide Office and statements were obtained.”

Venice Biennale titled 'Foreigners Everywhere' platforms LGBTQ+, outsider and Indigenous artists
“Outsider, queer and Indigenous artists are getting an overdue platform at the 60th Venice Biennale contemporary art exhibition that opens Saturday, curated for the first time by a Latin American.
“Brazilian curator Adriano Pedrosa’s main show, which accompanies 88 national pavilions for the seven-month run, is strong on figurative painting, with fewer installations than recent editions. A preponderance of artists are from the Global South, long overlooked by the mainstream art world circuits. Many are dead — Frida Kahlo, for example, is making her first appearance at the Venice Biennale. Her 1949 painting ‘Diego and I’ hangs alongside one by her husband and fellow artist, Diego Rivera.
“Despite their lower numbers, living artists have ‘a much stronger physical presence in the exhibition,’ Pedrosa said, with each either showing one large-scale work, or a collection of smaller works. The vast majority are making their Venice Biennale debut.”
“Nearby, transexual Brazilian artist Manauara Clandestina presented her video ‘Migranta,’ which speaks about her family’s story of migration. ‘It’s so strong, because I can hear my Daddy’s voice,' she said. Clandestina, who hails from the Amazon city of Manaus, embraced Pedrosa during a press preview marking her Venice debut. She said she continues to work in Brazil, despite discrimination and violence against transgender people.”
