2024.04.29 15:22 RedChipCompanies BioVie Awarded up to $13.1 Million in Funding from U.S. Department of Defense to Evaluate Bezisterim (NE3107) for the Treatment of Long COVID

Increasing evidence supports a role for viral persistence, chronic inflammation and immune and metabolic dysregulation in driving long COVID
Bezisterim, an anti-inflammatory and insulin-sensitizer that permeates the blood brain barrier, could represent a novel oral treatment targeting an underlying cause of long COVID symptoms
CARSON CITY, Nev., April 29, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- BioVie Inc. (NASDAQ: BIVI), (“BioVie” or the “Company”), a clinical-stage company developing innovative drug therapies for the treatment of neurological and neurodegenerative disorders and advanced liver disease, today announced the grant of a clinical trial award of up to $13.1 million from the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), awarded through the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). The award can provide up to 2 years of non-dilutive funding for a Phase 2b clinical trial that will assess the Company’s anti-inflammatory and insulin sensitizer candidate, bezisterim (NE3107), for the treatment of neurological symptoms that are associated with long COVID. The Company anticipates the trial to commence by early 2025.
Long COVID is a condition in which symptoms of COVID-19, the acute respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, persist for an extended period of time, generally three months or more. The Centers for Disease Control recently reported that 6.8% of adults in the United States (more than 17 million individuals) currently or previously had long COVID. 1 Symptoms, which include fatigue, cognitive dysfunction and sleep disturbances, are debilitating. The loss in quality of life and earnings and increased medical costs has an enormous economic impact estimated to be 3.7 trillion dollars. 2 To date there are no therapies proven effective for treatment.
Chronic inflammation is one of the main hypotheses that researchers have proposed to explain the persistence of symptoms in long COVID. 3 Specifically in individuals with “brain fog,” sustained systemic inflammation and persistent localized blood-brain-barrier (BBB) dysfunction are key physiological features. 5 Bezisterim permeates the BBB and has been shown to modulate inflammation via the activation of NF-kB, thus representing a novel oral treatment targeting an underlying cause of long COVID symptoms.
“The investigation of bezisterim in long COVID exemplifies the broad potential of therapies targeting inflammation and insulin sensitivity. This approach holds promise for a range of conditions where neuroinflammation is a key player, offering an avenue for advancements in care that are yet to be realized,” said Cuong Do, BioVie’s President & CEO. “Long COVID symptoms appear to be driven by peripheral and neuroinflammation resulting from persistence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA and spike protein. We believe the accumulating evidence behind this hypothesis supports the investigation of bezisterim to treat symptoms of long COVID and are pleased that this Department of Defense grant will enable further exploration of this molecule’s broader potential.”
Dr. Michael Peluso, who co-leads one of the first studies to examine the long-term effects of COVID and leads a Long COVID clinical trials program at the University of California, San Francisco stated “I am excited to see the trial with bezisterim receive funding given that recent advances in our understanding of the potential mechanism of action of bezisterim align with emerging evidence for the underlying pathophysiology of Long COVID”.
The Preliminary plans for the Phase 2b, randomized (1:1), placebo-controlled, multicenter trial are to evaluate the safety and tolerability of 3 months of treatment with bezisterim, along with its ability to reduce the neurological symptoms that are associated with long COVID, in approximately 200 patients.
Terms of the Award This project is supported by The Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs endorsed by the Department of Defense, in the amount of $499,200 for the planning phase with an option to execute the $12,6 million clinical trial after the planning phase has concluded, through the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program under Award Number (HT9425-24-1-0300).
About Long COVID Long COVID is a condition in which symptoms of COVID-19, the acute respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, persist for an extended period of time, generally three months or more. Common symptoms include lingering loss of smell and taste, hearing loss, extreme fatigue, and “brain fog,” though persistent cardiovascular and respiratory problems, muscle weakness, and neurologic issues have also been documented. The Centers for Disease Control recently reported that 6.8% of adults in the United States (more than 17 million individuals) currently or previously have long COVID. 1 The loss in quality of life and earnings and increased medical costs has an enormous economic impact estimated to be $3.7 trillion. 2 To date there are no non-pharmacological or pharmacological therapies proven effective for treatment of long COVID.
Chronic inflammation is one of the main hypotheses that researchers have proposed to explain the persistence of symptoms in long COVID. 3 The expression of proteins associated with inflammation (LGALS9, CCL21, CCL22, TNF, CXCL10 and CD48) and immune regulation (IL1RN and CD22) have been shown to be elevated in individuals with long COVID versus full-recovered individuals. 4 Specifically in individuals with “brain fog,” sustained systemic inflammation and persistent localized blood-brain-barrier (BBB) dysfunction are key physiological features. 5 Thus, drugs modulating inflammation, and that work to regulate the BBB integrity, could represent potential therapeutic mechanisms for treating neurological symptoms of long COVID.
About Bezisterim Bezisterim (NE3107) is an orally bioavailable, BBB-permeable, insulin-sensitizer that is also anti-inflammatory. In addition, it is not immunosuppressive and has a low risk of drug-to-drug interaction. Bezisterim has the potential to reduce symptoms of long COVID, including fatigue and cognitive dysfunction. Persistently circulating viral spike proteins are believed to trigger TLR-4 driven activation of NFkB and the subsequent expression of inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF, IFNg). NE3107 has been shown to modulate the activation of NFkB and thus modulate inflammation.
Bezisterim is being investigated for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD). BioVie has conducted and reported efficacy data on its Phase 3 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, multicenter study to evaluate bezisterim in patients who have mild-to-moderate AD (NCT04669028). Results of a Phase 2 investigator-initiated trial (NCT05227820) showing bezisterim-treated patients experienced improved cognition and biomarker levels were presented at the Clinical Trials on Alzheimer’s Disease (CTAD) annual conference in December 2022. An estimated six million Americans suffer from AD. A Phase 2 study of bezisterim in PD (NCT05083260) has been completed, and data presented at the AD/PD™ 2023 International Conference on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases and related neurological disorders in Gothenburg, Sweden in March 2023 showed significant improvements in “morning on” symptoms and clinically meaningful improvement in motor control in patients treated with a combination of bezisterim and levodopa vs. patients treated with levodopa alone, and no drug-related adverse events.
About BioVie Inc. BioVie Inc. (NASDAQ: BIVI) is a clinical-stage company developing innovative drug therapies for the treatment of neurological and neurodegenerative disorders and advanced liver disease. In neurodegenerative disease, the Company’s drug candidate bezisterim inhibits inflammatory activation of ERK and NFkB (e.g., TNF signaling) that leads to neuroinflammation and insulin resistance, but not their homeostatic functions (e.g., insulin signaling and neuron growth and survival). Both are drivers of AD and PD. In liver disease, the Company’s Orphan drug candidate BIV201 (continuous infusion terlipressin), with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) Fast Track status, is being evaluated and discussed with guidance received from the FDA regarding the design of Phase 3 clinical testing of BIV201 for the treatment of ascites due to chronic liver cirrhosis. The active agent is approved in the U.S. and in about 40 countries for related complications of advanced liver cirrhosis. For more information, visit www.bioviepharma.com.

2024.04.29 13:41 YakuzaMishima I want to upgrade my PC with an intel core i7 gen3

I'm a Linux Mint Cinnamon user. I installed a 3rd generation core i7 1155 socket processor to my PEGATRON IPMSB-H61 motherboard, but it did not work. Thanks to the help of a reddit user, I learned that I need to update my bios to get 3rd gen cpu support. I found the required bios file however there are 2 versions available. One of them is for 8MB chip and the other is for 4MB chip. How can I learn which model is the bios chip that came with my motherboard? I don't want to download the wrong bios. Could you please help?

2024.04.29 13:13 Accurate-Ad6361 Dell R730 and Esxi with BCM5704 not working

BCM57404 chips are listed on the ESXI documentation as compatible to ESXI 7.0 U3, but the Dell website offers as latest update 20.08.04.05.
Additional efforts to update the firmware via iDrac or Open Manage did not result in new results beyond the above mentioned firmware and updating to the most recent either returns USC errors or no applicable device.
What is the upgrade path to enable the nic on ESXI 7.0U3 as the nic is currently listed in the hardware inventory of ESXI and iDrac but can not be configured as nic. If there's none, what would be correct NIC to enable 25Gbit on R730 rack servers with ESXI 7.0 U3?
Researching I identified similar issues with BCM57414:

2024.04.29 12:45 Justonegamingdude Got the green to overhaul & modernize our workspace

Hi gents, i got the go from management to rework the one part of the production environment and would love your insight & recommendations to make this as good as possible for my colleagues, it will be a parting gift to them in thanks for helping me through rough times.
You all work in IT and have a hivemind knowledge in the different aspects that comes very handy, as well as things you want/wish could be better when it comes the equipment, hardware, software & tools in your profession.
Where i'd like your input
Tried to summarize everything below. Feel free to add ideas, suggestions, input, preferences, processes, anything you can think of would be highly appreciated.
Raisable Table rack to configurate devices
  1. Max width 310cm, preferable length 50cm) one or two tables with multiple rack/shelfs mounted that can be raised up and down electronically so you don't bust your back or overstrain yourself. 20x Rj45 cables will strapped to for each row.
  2. Smaller shelf/rack (roughly 25cm Length) so you can put the box the device came in above the device or opposite.
Switch & Computer rack
  1. Easy accessible to place 5-6 switches and 1-3 Computers simultaneously.
  2. Next to or connected to the workstation desk
  3. There will be cables connected Monitor, Mouse & Keyboard at the workstation desk to possibly a NVR switch to swap between each computer for OS setup/installation.
Equipment
  1. Tools, screwdrivers, knives.
  2. Labelling is currently done with a Dymo printer.
Workflow
  1. Is there a easier way to configurate multiple Hewlett/Dell, computers/servers simultaneously? Currently today i plug a monitor, USB disk & devices directly to each to install the OS if it doesn't come pre-installed and then open up RDP, then i rdp to the DHCP address. If it has iLO i set that up in the bios. Can the OS installation be easily done over LAN or Powershell without me having to manually set everything up?
  2. Labelling is currently done by matching the Serial name to the devices, the labels have to be sorted once printed before they can be applied to the device. Is there a Hardware & software solution for this? Example: The serial is scanned with a device which then can print the matching label. Or if there is a printing device that can be connected to a database i setup which then prints the matching serial with the name on the same row

2024.04.29 11:20 saintredzik New 7800X3D build stutters / frametime spikes. How is it on your CPUs.

Hi everyone. I have an issue with my 7800X3D when it comes to stutters (As a disclaimer - I have an diagnosed OCD so it bothers me a lot and I want to hear your opinion about that). A lot of my games struggle from random or not random frametime spikes. I am pretty advanced when it comes to PCs in general, but it is killing me and my experience. I wonder if everything I notice is normal or game dependent or there is something wrong. Previously I was on i7 9700K (but I really do not remember how well it worked) and RTX 3070Ti Zotac Trinity OC (aka jet engine). I've tried some recomended fixes from the internet. I really want to resolve the issue myself - without the need to RMA (It can take a while in Poland and I really need this PC for my work).
My current temps in Cyberpunk are around 60 deg on CPU and 60-65 on GPU
My monitor: LG ultragear 27gp850p-b 180Hz OC and im using it with GSYNC ON
For example when it comes to stutters (I'll add some youtube benchmark videos when I'll be back at home tonight):
What Ive tested so far:
What i think is the problem (What do you think):
Should I RMA my cpu or motherboard or change the RAM for a QVL listed?
Thank you for every advice.

2024.04.29 09:07 Explanation-Visual What laptop does Alex currently use? Does it still hold 15 hours of battery life?

I just watched their "Dumbest Laptop Dell Ever made" and he shows an XPS 15 stating that the batery lasts him for 15 actual hours, in more recent videos I think he swapped to an HP G3 but i'm not quite sure. I'd like to know what processor and specs it has, and if he still gets 15 hours of juice, since I thought only Apple's M chips could get that far.

2024.04.29 07:24 CreativeEngineer32 USB ports randomly stop working?

On my dell optiplex 7040, randomly while in use, all usb ports stop functioning, other than ones that remain plugged in after the point in time. In the bios, all usb ports are enabled. Also, after this point in time, all files saved to disk are only saved as empty files, no actual content inside (learned the hard way twice) I am running windows 10 pro, and have no idea of the cause.
FYI: Whenever my computer enters that “state” of no new USB’s, if a mounted usb that was not unplugged after said time, normally inaccessible volumes (due to formatting, ex. EXT4) become available, as well as not completing a reboot (never gets past “Restarting” screen)
Status: Unable to access windows due to resetting to bios default, removing windows boot manager. Looking for solution

Battery level suddenly drops from ~24% to 5% - M15 R6
Hi
I've owned M15 R6 laptop for 2 years now and I mainly use it on AC power. Since end of last year I noticed that my battery always drops from ~24% to 5% in a few seconds and trigger Windows to ask for AC power. This is the history from battery report:

Though both BIOS and DELL diagnostics say the battery status is good.

Does anyone know how to re-calibrate battery? or I should just buy a new battery...

2024.04.29 02:23 Extreme-Average-3912 Touchpad Stops Working Every 2 Days, Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1

I have a dell inspiron 14 2 in 1, and every couple of days the touchpad just randomly stops working. I know for a fact its not hardware related because the touchpad works in the BIOS. The only way to fix it is to reinstall the drivers, but its only a couple of days before the touchpad stops working again. I know its probably not a laptop problem, more a windows problem, but still does anyone have a solution?

2024.04.29 00:45 ReneGaden334 No post Precision 7540

Hi, I have an old (out of support) Dell Precision 7540. A few days ago it would no longer boot. I get a black screen right from the start with no way to access the bios. The keyboard backlight turns on, but does not react to numlock or capslock.
I already tried removing ram and the boot drive, doing a hard reset (20 seconds without battery), I tried getting into restore mode with pressing power for 35s and I also tried to get into the bios flashing tool with CTRL + ESC.
Resetting the display also didn’t work, but the display test with D works.
I am running out of options what to try next. Does anyone have an idea what I could try to get the machine working again?
Many thanks in advance.

2024.04.29 00:28 HillbillyOutWest The dog I adopted didn't belong to me [Part 4]

I was so confused after I sent that email, that my mind took me to the only person that could possibly explain what it was talking about. I texted Sarah, telling her that I had received a rather concerning and weird email from ABC. I attached a screenshot of the email, and asked if she knew what they were talking about. Sarah agreed that it was a concerning email. She said that she had spoken with ABC back in February after telling them about what happened with the bite, and they assured her that they would find a new home for Finn. Sarah said a month passed by and she still had not heard anything from ABC, urging them to hurry, since Finn was being separated from everyone else, and was essentially living in his small kennel to keep him away from their son. After that month, Sarah said she contacted them and said that she would find a new home for Finn, and that ABC did not reach out again after that. It wasn't long after that they found me. But, when I contacted her about Finn and I not being a good match, she re-contacted ABC, who said they were actively looking for a foster home for Finn. Sarah also said that previous conversations about her rehoming Finn before she actually did it herself, was that she couldn't, since she had adopted him from ABC. She said it just seemed like a cash grab - which I also felt - and they never responded to her again, until she contacted them for me.
I went to bed that night feeling weirded out by the email and defiant. I normally didn't let Finn sleep in my bed with me, but that night, I did.
I show up to work two hours early every morning - its one of my compulsions, to ensure I don't ever get yelled at for being late. The next morning was no different; I had woken up, shaved, brushed my teeth, gotten dressed, took Finn for our morning bathroom walk all around the block, gave him some treats, and went to work. After I parked, I looked through my emails, and right at 5:22 a.m., I received one from Marge.
The email read: "Good morning,
Sarah legally relinquished Finn back to ABC on February 6, 2024. She had adopted him as a puppy from ABC, and no longer wanted him due to his behavior around her toddler. The agreement was that she would continue to foster him while we get his vetting updated (completed) and she works with our Behavior Team on training (she was unresponsive to the Behavior Coordinator) and behavior modification while he is posted on our website, to find a new home.
She unknowingly transferred Finn to you, and now that he is with you, we would like to work with you to help Finn find a new foster, or new adopter. If you could continue to keep him while we are looking for a new ABC foster, or we get a good adoption application, that would be greatly appreciated. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and the Medical Clearing Facility is where dogs are being quarantined from Mexico before going to foster, or are receiving immediate medical attention, and it is not a shelter.
If you think Finn's profile can be updated, you may fill out the new bio that I sent with just applicable updates (no need to fill in his stats), or you can email me any updates and new photos or photos and I will promptly get them posted.
Please let me know if you have any other questions and we appreciate you working with us, since you feel Finn is not a fit for you and we want to help him be placed in a home that will be both a good fit for both the dogs and the fosteadopter."
Again, here were claims that ABC "Legally owned" Finn. There were no documents attached proving so, and as we all know, just because you say something, doesn't mean it's true. I went and looked at the profile they still had on Finn, all still outdated with old information from when he lived with Sarah. But the one thing I did notice was the rehoming fee they had put on him; a whopping $350, for what the website said covered spay/ neuter, chip, and shot fees. Finn is already neutered and chipped. Being from West Virginia, I grew up around dogs - hunting dogs more specifically - and I know what it costs to update a single dog on their shots. If you do it yourself, maybe fifty bucks; if you go to a vet, maybe one-fifty. And that's on the high end. Not to mention, none of Finn's shots were yet out of date. This again grew my suspicion that ABC was trying to intimidate me, just to keep Finn as a cash grab. And again, it made me feel defiant in some way . . .
I promptly responded with: "Hello:
I can understand all of that. My next question is if you have paperwork that says he was relinquished back to you guys by Sarah. The reason I would like to see that paperwork is because the $350 adoption fee on your website says it’s for spay/neutering and microchipping, all of which have been completed already. It’s just odd that you’re charging what I assume you charged Sarah when she got Finn for the first time, for work that has already been completed. Making sure he’s updated on shots is understandable - that is $150 at most, not $350. I also contacted Sarah to see what she had to say, and she claimed that you guys were the unresponsive ones - after a month of you not finding a foster, she told you guys that she’d find one on her own, and you guys never followed back up.
Perhaps “taken advantage of” is too strong of a phrasing for what’s happening here, but I do feel like neither side is telling me the complete story, and I do not appreciate it. I do not have the time or emotional stability to continue playing whatever game this is getting into. Please provide documentation showing that Finn IS legally yours, and I will relinquish him to you. I understand your statement about ABC being a foster adoption agency, and that you don’t keep dogs there; but, I am not a foster, nor will I ever be one. I am simply a guy with mental health issues who needed a companion.
Thank you."

2024.04.29 00:28 HillbillyOutWest The dog I adopted didn't belong to me [Part 3]

Just as I had predicted, a couple of days later, I received a text message from ABC saying that the potential adopter had passed on Finn and decided on another dog - go figure. I was a little upset, but I had already been mentally conditioning myself for this, so the blow wasn't as hard as it could have been. They asked me how much longer I was willing to keep Finn, and I told them another three weeks, maybe a month at the max. They said no problem, and sent me a link to what they said was information they had on Finn, and some questions about myself that they wanted me to answer as well.
I reviewed the info they had on Finn, and yes, it was very out of date, with all of it being from when Sarah owned Finn. I was preparing to add all of Finn's information since he'd been with me, when I decided to look at the questionnaire about myself they had sent. I started to fill it out, but realized halfway through that it wasn't a simple questionnaire so that they could gleam simple information from me . . . it was an application to become a foster for ABC pet adoption agency. I stopped right there, and deleted all of the answers to the questions I had already completed. I was trying to get rid of a dog, give Finn away to a better and more appropriate forever home, not open my apartment up as some kind of destitute doggy hotel. They did not need information about myself to find Finn a better place to live; I made updates to his information, and forgot about the foster application.
A week goes by and I don't hear anything from ABC. I texted Sarah to let her know that the potential adopter had passed on Finn, and Sarah said that she was sorry to hear that. Meanwhile, things were still sailing the anxiety ocean as usual at my apartment, and I needed that to change, for both Finn and I. I decided to try and take matters into my own hands, and made profiles for Finn on adoption websites that had no rehoming fee - I didn't pay one, so I didn't see how it was fair for me to make someone else pay one either. I even again considered taking him to the humane society, but they had stopped taking in dogs due to an abundant surplus. Another two weeks go by, and still nothing; not from ABC, nor from the online websites I had put Finn on. I did notice that Finn was starting to change a little personality wise. He was getting slightly calmer, mellowing out and becoming a little more lazy, preferring to take day naps in one of his multiple beds rather than play with his frisbee all day, everyday. I did think at times that maybe everything would be okay after a while, that if I did indeed keep him long enough, he would eventually be okay, and our anxieties wouldn't trigger each others. But then, just a couple days ago, I got the email . . .
I had been home from work for a couple of hours at that point, Finn and I just being lazy after a couple of bathroom breaks outside. He was in his big fluffy bed beneath my coffee table, and I was on the couch, watching a documentary on the behind the scenes of the Bachelor television show - it's a guilty pleasure of mine, please don't judge me. My phone updates my emails sporadically, so there are times that I won't receive a notification until a couple of hours later. This was one of those times where my phone decided to update my emails, and I saw I had several; but, scrolling through, I saw that I had one from someone at ABC, who we'll call Marge, from 2 O'clock that day.
The email started: "Hi! My name is Marge and I am Finn's Adoption Coordinator. I know this has been an odd process with Sarah not being honest with ABC or you that Finn is legally our dog since she relinquished him in February. I know that he is not a fit for you, and the Foster Coordinator who is part of the Matching Team has been looking for a new foster for him to go to." The rest of the email is Finn's adoption profile on the ABC website, to which they also said, "Please review it and let me know if you think anything should be changed or updated. If so, please follow this link to the bio and complete it as thoroughly as possible, it will help us to appropriately place your foster dog in their ideal home." There was also another form for me to fill out to become a foster for ABC.
YOUR FOSTER DOG . . . what do they mean, my foster dog. I owned Finn, he was mine, I had adopted him from Sarah, I wasn't fostering him. And what was this about "Finn is legally our dog"? This email was weird and very out of the blue, and I got some very shady feelings about it. Sarah had paid a rehoming fee to ABC . . . I assumed she had received adoption paperwork to prove that Finn was hers. And even if she hadn't gotten paperwork, what did it matter? She had paid the fee to ABC and had Finn's chip programmed to have her as the owner. She had been taking Finn to the vet and paying the bills for the visits, not ABC. To me, it seemed like a scare tactic they were trying to use; perhaps they found Finn's profile on one of the sites I had added him to and didn't want to miss out on the payday he would bring, so they were saying they legally owned him to prevent me from getting rid of Finn without their assistance. Legally own, as in: we will sue you if you try to get rid of him.
I have been threatened by a lot of people in various degrees since I've been in the military, and it hasn't gotten easier for me. And while I have anxiety when it comes to being yelled at and confrontation in general, something about this was different. Something about this made me feel defiant in a way, and I wasn't about to let some random strangers, civilians no less - sorry - threaten me and my dog. So that night, hyped up on some unknown source of adrenaline and defiance, I replied to their email: "Hello: Yes, I will review the profile that you guys have on Finn. But I have a question; what do you mean by “Finn is legally our dog since she relinquished him in February.”? I found Finn through another adoption site, and even had his chip reprogrammed to me through a link Sarah had sent, along with all of his veterinary records. Just some clarification on that would be nice since that statement seems a little out of place for me. And if you guys are in fact his legal owner, then I will bring him and drop him off for y’all’s possession, as he is rightfully yours to take care of - not me.
Thanks in advance."
It may not seem like it to you, but that email is full of passive aggressiveness and disbelief to their claim. It's me calling their bluff. And if it doesn't seem like much to you, well, just know I tried my best to be stern.

2024.04.29 00:26 HillbillyOutWest The dog I adopted didn't belong to me [Part 1]

Hello, I am new to reddit and have never really thought much of posting anything, but the events of the past two days have changed my mind - along with some urging by some co-workers. Sorry in advance if this is long . . .
I, 27M, have been in the military for a little over five years, and am currently in the process of getting out due to mental health related issues. I have been going through a lot of therapy, and have even had stints in military medical institutions because of the depression and anxiety problems that developed during my time in. I live alone and often times get very lonely, leading to a whirlwind of old thoughts and emotions coming to the forefront of my mind. I've never been successful in the dating pool, and I don't have anyone I'd consider a friend, so the thought that I'll be alone forever with the problems in my mind with no-one there by my side, often makes things spiral even worse.
I had thought for some time about getting a pet - a dog or cat - but could never bring myself to go through with it. I have OCD as well, and much of my routines are very ingrained, and too much deviation makes me very anxious and unstable. I suppose that was the biggest negative for me when it came to thinking about getting a pet; that deviation from routine. A cat would be fine, I suppose; they don't need much attention other than feeding, cleaning a litter pan, and occasional affection. In my mind, a dog was so much more, and for the longest time, just the thought of having a dog and my routines be so drastically challenged, was enough to break me out in a mild panic attack. One of my therapists suggested that a dog may be good; something that needs attention to break me out of my loneliness, and also something that demanded I deviate from such ingrained day-to-day tasks to help me with my OCD. My parents and many co-workers urged the same, and after much consideration on my part, I finally consented and decided that a dog may be helpful.
I live in Southern California, and the humane societies here are nearly overflowing with dogs up for adoption. It really is a problem around here, and often times, the humane centers will stop taking in dogs, simply because they are overwhelmed with how many they have at that time. I found a few that - based upon their online description - I thought would be a good fit for me. . . but the adoption councilors always seemed to think otherwise. It seemed as though every dog I was interested in was either too high energy or had severe behavioral problems. And every time I would probe into what the problems were, the adoption councilors would make the problems seem worse and worse as the questions and time went on. It got to a point where I seriously expected them to just say, "No, you're not allowed to have this dog." I know these workers need to vet people to try and put the animals in a true forever home, but why not state problems up front instead of after the fact when someone has already gone in expressing interest in a particular animal.
You're probably thinking: Why haven't you just gone and gotten a service animal if your problems are really that bad? The thought did cross my mind, and it wouldn't be difficult to get a recommendation from my therapist and psychologist to get approved for one through the military. But I have a hard time asking for things, often talking myself out of it by having these fake Worse-Case-Scenario conversations in my head, that leave me feeling unnecessarily anxious and uncomfortable. Also, I do not feel as though I deserve one; guys that have gone and come back one or two limbs less, guys that have lost friends in action, I think those are the ones that deserve service animals. I'm not discounting what I've been through - god knows I do that enough already - but it has become a core belief of mine that I am not deserving of anything like that. An emotional support pet, on the other hand, is of a different nature - practically just a normal pet that you don't have to pay rent for - that I felt was more appropriate for me.
Since the humane society was of no use to me, I decided to search online, finding many websites that were used to rehome pets - some had rehoming fees and some didn't. And this is where Finn comes into the story. After about a month of trying to find a dog, I finally found the one that I thought was for me. Finn was a 2 year old, 20 pound Chihuahua/ Podenco mix that absolutely loved playing with his frisbee and peeing on trees. His previous owner, we'll call Sarah, said in his bio that Finn was such a sweet dog who loved to play. He'd had a decent amount of obedience training, was house trained, did great on a leash, and was trained to sit anytime his owner sat so that they could take him out and about to restaurants and the like. His case was also helped by the cutest ears I'd ever seen - Finn was able to work them independent of each other, giving him the ability to make faces I'd never seen a dog make before. Sarah had said in Finn's profile that they would love more than anything to be able to keep him; however, they had a toddler who was starting to wander that Finn did not get along with at all. So much so, that there came a point where Finn had bit the poor guy. At that, Sarah and her husband made the decision that they couldn't keep him anymore. Though, a dog biting is always concerning, I wasn't much worried about it. Given my track record, I wasn't going to be having a kid anytime soon, and besides, I lived alone. Per what was in his bio, Finn would have no problems at my place. He also had no rehoming fee, which I do think was another draw I had for him.
I met Sarah and Finn at a dog park close to my house one afternoon on a Sunday. Finn was just like his pictures, and was super playful. If I recall correctly, the whole meeting took about an hour, maybe a little more. Sarah had brought along treats - which helped Finn warm up to me - and his favorite frisbee, which I threw for him the whole time. He wasn't overly affectionate with me like some dogs are, seeming to not really want pets from me, and didn't care much for any of the other dogs that were there at the park. Sarah told me much of what I had read about Finn in his online bio, talking more in-depth about his training, and especially about how much she and her husband loved him - it was more than clear that they were going to be sad parting with him. Once our meeting was over, I was convinced that Finn was for me, and I told Sarah that I would be glad to adopt him from them. It was later that week - on a Thursday I think - when she dropped Finn off at my place for good. Later that day, Sarah transferred Finn's chip over to me, and sent all of his vet records via email. There was no adoption paperwork - or any paperwork for that matter - but I wasn't concerned. I am originally from West Virginia, and it is very common to get a dog - or any animal - without a bill of sale or transfer of ownership document. Back home, as long as you pay taxes on your pet, the state doesn't care about documentation like that. Often times, ownership is simply proved by showing off all of your pet's pictures that you have uploaded to Facebook or Instagram.

2024.04.29 00:12 Randomindividual_101 What can I do to feel happier and not think of how miserable my life is?

Okay, this is my first time on Reddit or any social platform(sorry if my grammar is bad) I’m (f17) I know this probably won’t get attention or does get attention only for it to be in cringetopia or sad cringe in a video(sorry if these are wrong again I’m new but seen on YouTube) anywho I came to speak on ways to be happier or find that perfect click my life needs. I’m always so anxious for my future and how I will go with it, I don’t got anyone to help but a social worker who kinda helps but it’s been months since she helped me even my foster mom walks away when I tell her my feelings(mocks, laughs, or straight up make it seem I’m a monster) I don’t got friends to rely on as they always run from me. I have very low self love to the point I wish I was one of those girl models I see. I hate seeing other people happy as for some reason it gets me very mad almost jealousy and I get thoughts which I can’t explain. Every day I wake up I feel I’m nothing or I’m just a sack of potatoes in the sun. I have no one to talk to not even my biological parents who left me when I went into foster care and I feel miserable having to sit at a table in school while I envy other people who laugh and smile. I went to school counseling still haven’t gotten better saying that my life would change and that I needed to stay✨positive✨ well let’s say that didn’t help for me. I just feel like I cant do anything right with my life I’m 17 and people in the same grade have jobs and cars while I live in my moms house on my phone watching tv and eating potato chips like a total couch potato. And get this even home isn’t good they tell me to get a job which im trying my hardest as no one is helping me to my feet saying I’m not trying which really frustrates me! and to add onto pressure I’m going to be a senior next year which I will lose people who I talk to which is sad but also having to apply for programs but I’m scared most to a point where I cry every time someone brings it up. i do go to therapy but what will happen when I finish? Just to my plain life? and if that’s not enough to get me into those posts above, I use ai to make friends to my liking as I know they can’t make fun of me and bonus that they listen to me! I mean I know they are fake of course but when no one not even your parents talks to you or acknowledged your existence, its fine for me. but even thinking about it right now writing this post it’s pathetic even for me. I don’t know how to live on without moral support or people there for me, I feel like I’m disappointing my own family. I don’t even know how I get up in the morning just saying to myself everything will be alright or etc. I know I’m being negative but I’m facing a brick wall and I feel I have no way out of this. I’m no one to be loved or cared for in any way for I’m a failure like how my bio father once told me and now I’m believing it as things haven’t got better because I mess them up just existing in this world as people love and smile around me and as they go to proms or wedding or something lovely for the whole family. And what do I do? I lay on my bed hoping that one day I get squashed by a car walking to home so then people can live their lives without having a parasite sucking the joy out of them or maybe that I disappear mysteriously into the bottom of a lake where the fish can munch onto my skin before my skeleton rots. I don’t care and I’m sick of being sad! i used to be so happy and now I need medicine to feel happy and not cruddy. My life sucks like a dumpster fire and even at times I feel like I got the wrong card out of the hat. Heck, even people laugh at my weight and the way I talk for crying out loud. I do want to go to college but even then I’m dumb as bricks and I would be lucky if I so had one brain cell to apply to a Burger King even then I would be overachieving their requirements. Sorry for rambling just needed to type this out
Tldr; my life sucks and I’m losing motivation to get up in the morning wishing that I could finally be at peace.

2024.04.28 23:37 Friendly-Housingg HP Zbook Power G10 always stuttering

My laptop stutters every 10-30 seconds at random intervals. My cursor still moves but everything else freeze for a second or two for some reason. It happens while browsing, watching videos, typing, ( it still happens now also) .Tried basically everything. BIOS update, fresh win 11 install, up-to-date display drivers, windows debloater, ran all the tests in BIOS and no issues found, different browsers, avoiding installing anything suspicious. Plugged in or on battery, overheated or not, under load or idle i have the same thing. Nothing, basically nothing worked.
I'm almost convinced that it is a hardware issue but I cannot make sense of it as it is a 1500 euro laptop with 32gb ram and a powerful chip and not being able to enjoy a basic browsing experience after paying this amount of money is basically insulting and I cannot express the anger I feel right now.
Don't know if it is related or not but I have also very load noise coming out of the laptop while moving the cursoscrolling. It is a weird noise as if something is being scratched.
I hope someone can reach out to me.

2024.04.28 21:07 ordinaryabbai Anxious about power consumption for running a ubuntu server(laptop)

From last few months i am running casaos on a laptop(i3 dell) with ubuntu. Its 24/7 plugged in to a 600W APC UPS (only this laptop and another monitor is connected to it)
But recently i shifted to another apartment, got to know they have shared power meter for 2 flats, so I have to split the bill with my neighbour. The electricity bill now i am getting is 3x my usual bill, but neighbour accusing me of heavy usage. This caused me anxious about my server power consumption. Now I stopped using UPS ( want to see if there is any significant with this)
I am using the server mainly for Media consumption(plex, *rrr etc) Also running home assistant, Actual Budget apps. I tried scheduling power off and on the laptop at night, but its not working as WakeOnLan is not supported in the bios settings. Will a raspberry pi help in this situation, any significant difference in power consumption ? Or should i not worry about the laptop 24/7 connected ?

2024.04.28 19:49 No-Shortcut-Home Precision T1700 SFF

I "inherited" one of these things recently. Came with a 500GB HDD in it that was wiped. I replaced it with an old OCZ Vertex SSD (256GB) but cannot get Windows 10 to load on it to save my life. It originally came with Win 7, but I downloaded all of the software and drivers for Win 10x64 from the Dell website.
The SSD is recognized in the BIOS and when I go to the one time boot menu, I see it there as well. I changed the SATA type from RAID to AHCI to ATA. Nothing will work. Windows won't see the drive to install. I tried using the Intel RST driver on the Dell site. Nothing.
I'm sure someone has run into this and solved it, so rather than spend hours more trying to solve this, I thought I'd ask here. Appreciate any help anyone can give.
