In every moment of our life we face the possibility of death. It's not suprising that the subject of death figures appear in our dreams. It can make us aware of our deepest fears and feelings of our own death, or the death of someone we love.
Dreaming of death can also signify the end of a phase in life, a belief or conviction, or the death of an idea. Rarely are dreams about death, an actual indication of a future death of a person, or oneself.
After death often comes a rebirth, in whatever form that might take.

People we know who have died. An attempt to deal with our emotions, feelings of guilt or anger in connection to this person; or feelings about death itself. Hello Evertonians! I am an FC Barcelona fan, based in Los Angeles, who works in Sports Finance. My neighbor and his wife, who are Evertonians, came over to chat and understand what’s up with the club. It's Saturday night here, and I didn't have anything better to do, so I dug into things.
I will try to simplify things from what I read and the conversations I have heard. I am not involved with the buyout but know folks who are. It's a much smaller industry where everyone knows everyone.
Here we go.
The Debt
These are the loans that Everton will have to pay regardless as they are secured well.
Loans to 777 Partners (Inherited by A Cap) are likely junior to these two loans. In any bankruptcy event, MSP and RMF get paid first before 777 Partners and Moshiri. However, A Cap says their loan is secured and they are senior creditors of the club, which would put them at the same level as MSP and RMF.
The Timing
Something that came up in the chatter was the timing of this takeover. It is interesting as Everton is due to receive prize money payments from the league which are stood at £133 million. This is the money the club receives from the overall competition commercial pool, which is distributed to all the teams, based on a few things, for example, their position in the league table at the end of the season.
Folks involved in financing other clubs have said this payment likely hits before 30th June. There is another payment due in August/September which is the first tranche of payments from the league. (Unsure on this one, but this is what I heard, payment flows vary a lot).
Despite the timing, the payments would go only so far in helping the club and were likely factored in during takeover talks. My bet is the takeover is likely to complete before 30th June, or at least a structure is agreed upon. 30th June is the deadline used for accessing Premier League Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR) compliance.
If deals can be done before that “deadline”, they fall within transfers for the 2023/24 season and are included in the club’s financial accounts for last season, rather than moving into the new campaign. If the plan of the new owners is to recapitalize the team, pay down some debt, and sell players to avoid another PSR violation penalty, my bet is the deal gets done before June 30th.

The Buyers As of today, June 8 11:00 pm PDT, here are the potential suitors:
The Possibilities
Here are the things that can happen. I am simplifying this to the bare minimums. The actual deals are complicated af and take months to put up and months to complete.
Possibility I: New Owner comes in, pays all debt, and recapitalizes the team
Highly unlikely. The Premier League is a lucrative league for almost every single private equity investor. It’s the league that is expected to continue to grow and firms take less downside risk when buying a team versus a team in a league like Serie A.
However, this would cost any new owner over £1 billion. My bet it costs somewhere around £1.3 billion. Deals of this size happen, but Everton is in a unique position and negotiating from a position of weakness. In my opinion, only someone in the Middle East or a single buyer would be able to pull this through. No one in private equity would commit to this, as they are all answerable to their investors.
Simply put, Everton is not worth £1.3 billion.
Possibility II: New Owner comes in and negotiates with creditors
A likely option. In this case, a new owner comes in and negotiates with the creditors to either forego some of this debt or restructure it over an extremely long period of time at low rates. This would make Everton a more lucrative option. However, the club would still owe a lot of money over the long run and will be paying interest on that loan.
This would mean Everton is run like a lean machine for a few years, with fewer resources going towards things like player transfers, etc. It would, however, still be able to stay afloat.
Possibility III: MSP Capital exercise the option to take majority control of Everton
Another likely option. More likely than Possibility II. MSP Capital takes majority control and would, in all honesty, look to buy out Moshiri. They will need a lot of capital, and they are already pulling strings, putting up their stake in FC Augsburg for sale last week. MSP buy out Moshiri, restructure some of the debt, and put up some more capital. They would likely clear the RMF loan first.
The managing partner of MSP Sports Capital, Jeff Moorad, was a professor of mine in a class I took at UCLA. He is an absolute beast, and an amazing dude to hang with. Unbiased view, MSP is actually highly respected in the industry, and widely regarded as having a razor sharp approach to finance.
They are known to take long positions, but I think Everton would likely be a position they hold for the short term, IF they go alone on this deal. (This is my take, not Professor Moorad). It would be akin to what Elliott Investment Management did with AC Milan when their Chinese owners backed out. They would step in, stabilize the ship, hope the new stadium attracts enough new commercial and matchday revenue, and sell the team to another buyer recovering some of their investment. What Elliott did with AC Milan was absolutely legendary, and in no world would Gerry Cardinale and RedBird have bought AC Milan had Elliott not done its job.
INSIDE INFO HERE: I cannot reveal others in the MSP Sports Capital consortium. Texted a former colleague who is at the firm that are bidders with MSP. If the consortium is agreed upon, MSP comes in with others, who are capable of buying majority control, and running Everton over the long term. MSP in this case would still retain a minority stake. The new stadium holds the key to this deal.
Possibility IV: Everton goes into administration
Cannot rate this option or its likelihood. Let me walk you through this. Administration is a major taboo in the football world, but something extremely common in finance. It is a way for a firm to basically restructure its debt and get back to good health. It does not mean the club ceases to exist.
The preferred way that things are done is through a method called ‘company voluntary arrangement’ (CVA). In a CVA, a deal is put forth, which creditors vote on, usually giving them less money than they are owed, with voting power decided based on seniority. In this case, MSP and RMF would get more votes in the say versus A-Cap and Moshiri.
CVAs are extremely common in the EFL and other leagues, with advisory firms literally minting millions every year, doing nothing but advising teams here. In the Premier League, only Portsmouth has ever gone into administration. Going into administration would see 9 points being docked at the start of next season for Everton.

Some Questions I think are FAQs
Is Michael Dell buying Everton?
No, Michael Dell is not buying Everton. Michael Dell’s family office is DFO Management, which was formerly known as MSD Capital. MSD Capital was Michael Dell’s family office, meaning it exclusively invested his money. However, in 2009, MSD Capital opened up to outside investors and became an investment firm of its own. In 2023, MSD merged with BDT to create BDT+MSD, the firm that is backing the Bell and Downing bid.
They do still invest some of Dell’s money, and Dell may be their biggest investor, but as far as I know, BDT is huge itself, managing some of the capital from the Walton Family (Walmart), the Pritzkers, and the Mars Family. BDT’s founder, Byron Trott, is worth about $3.2 billion alone. Trott is considered a legend at Goldman, where he helped Buffett structure his investment in Goldman Sachs during the financial crisis of 2008. One of my ex-bosses worked at Goldman during this period under Trott’s team and considers him a legend, even saying he single-handedly saved Goldman Sachs by convincing Buffett to invest and structuring some wild deals.
One thing I know for sure is BDT+MSD would likely pursue a debt-based financing structure. They are not built to go heavy into equity-based financing for sports teams. BDT+MSD have already done a bunch of debt-based deals; Everton won’t be different. In the scenario where Bell and Downing succeed in taking over, Everton would likely owe a lot of money to BDT+MSD.
Would Bell and Downing with BDT+MSD make sense?
My take here is no. Running a football club is no joke. Even though Bell and Downing being Evertonians makes it ideal, I am not entirely convinced of their ability to run a team. Everton would still be severely constrained financially, as they would owe money to BDT+MSD, and Bell and Downing wouldn’t be able to pump a lot of cash into the business from their end.
There is nothing that guarantees Everton will not see the same scenario as it does now, three years after Bell and Downing take over. Private equity folks make sense, as they come in knowing they may know other clubs but don’t know much about Everton. They will, by default, bring on Evertonians on the board, and will have much more incentive to run it over the long term, as the only way they see a return is through actually growing the club economically, which only means a better Everton on and off the pitch.
Are BDT+MSD backing only Bell and Downing?
No, BDT+MSD are free to back anyone in the contention. They are committing to debt-based financing, so as long as the buyer is credible enough, they should have no problem going ahead. Considering they are backing Bell and Downing, I would be surprised if others in the race did not get better financing terms.
As I said, allegiances in debt-based financing are fluid. The hard truth here is BDT+MSD would likely be calling up other potential buyers who bid to see if BDT+MSD can provide financing for their deal. Debt-based financing for a Premier League club is pretty much a dream scenario for any firm, as the underlying asset securing the loan is more stable than in other deals.
Simply put, BDT+MSD are not competing with other potential buyers; they are competing with firms like JP Morgan, Sixth Street, Ares, Arctos, etc., who may want to front one of the buyers.
What’s up with A-Capital?
I do not know. Conflicting things online. I doubt A-Capital will get to invest anything more in Everton, through debt or through equity. I also read that their financial position is under question as the rating they rely on no longer reflects their financial standing. However, I still do not know what there position is.
Who do I want to see win the bid?
Biased towards MSP Sports Partners because of Jeff Moorad. If they pull the consortium through, and the other investors take over the majority club, all I can say is Everton would be lucky. That being said, there are plenty of other people willing to buy Everton with MSP. As of now, the one most likely, along with MSP, would be a dream scenario.
Also, it wont take time for someone entirely new to emerge as a suitor. That is how consortium works. People are surprised, but its literally like texting friends to pitch in and creating a group chat. Things happen over Telegram/Whatsapp/Signal. My boss had once raised $xxx million for a deal texting the LP in the deal. The conversation went along these lines.

Highly unlikely. The Premier League is a lucrative league for almost every single private equity investor. It’s the league that is expected to continue to grow and firms take less downside risk when buying a team versus a team in a league like Serie A.
However, this would cost any new owner over £1 billion. My bet it costs somewhere around £1.3 billion. Deals of this size happen, but Everton is in a unique position and negotiating from a position of weakness. In my opinion, only someone in the Middle East or a single buyer would be able to pull this through. No one in private equity would commit to this, as they are all answerable to their investors.
Simply put, Everton is not worth £1.3 billion.
Possibility II: New Owner comes in and negotiates with creditors
A likely option. In this case, a new owner comes in and negotiates with the creditors to either forego some of this debt or restructure it over an extremely long period of time at low rates. This would make Everton a more lucrative option. However, the club would still owe a lot of money over the long run and will be paying interest on that loan.
This would mean Everton is run like a lean machine for a few years, with fewer resources going towards things like player transfers, etc. It would, however, still be able to stay afloat.
Possibility III: MSP Capital exercise the option to take majority control of Everton
Another likely option. More likely than Possibility II. MSP Capital takes majority control and would, in all honesty, look to buy out Moshiri. They will need a lot of capital, and they are already pulling strings, putting up their stake in FC Augsburg for sale last week. MSP buy out Moshiri, restructure some of the debt, and put up some more capital. They would likely clear the RMF loan first.
The managing partner of MSP Sports Capital, Jeff Moorad, was a professor of mine in a class I took at UCLA. He is an absolute beast, and an amazing dude to hang with. Unbiased view, MSP is actually highly respected in the industry, and widely regarded as having a razor sharp approach to finance.
They are known to take long positions, but I think Everton would likely be a position they hold for the short term, IF they go alone on this deal. (This is my take, not Professor Moorad). It would be akin to what Elliott Investment Management did with AC Milan when their Chinese owners backed out. They would step in, stabilize the ship, hope the new stadium attracts enough new commercial and matchday revenue, and sell the team to another buyer recovering some of their investment. What Elliott did with AC Milan was absolutely legendary, and in no world would Gerry Cardinale and RedBird have bought AC Milan had Elliott not done its job.
INSIDE INFO HERE: I cannot reveal others in the MSP Sports Capital consortium. Texted a former colleague who is at the firm that are bidders with MSP. If the consortium is agreed upon, MSP comes in with others, who are capable of buying majority control, and running Everton over the long term. MSP in this case would still retain a minority stake. The new stadium holds the key to this deal.
Possibility IV: Everton goes into administration
Cannot rate this option or its likelihood. Let me walk you through this. Administration is a major taboo in the football world, but something extremely common in finance. It is a way for a firm to basically restructure its debt and get back to good health. It does not mean the club ceases to exist.
The preferred way that things are done is through a method called ‘company voluntary arrangement’ (CVA). In a CVA, a deal is put forth, which creditors vote on, usually giving them less money than they are owed, with voting power decided based on seniority. In this case, MSP and RMF would get more votes in the say versus A-Cap and Moshiri.
CVAs are extremely common in the EFL and other leagues, with advisory firms literally minting millions every year, doing nothing but advising teams here. In the Premier League, only Portsmouth has ever gone into administration. Going into administration would see 9 points being docked at the start of next season for Everton.
The Pros of this approach:
- Everton sheds a ton of debt. This would make it extremely attractive for someone to buy the club.
- The reduced debt will likely be restructured over the long run, hence a free-spending owner coming in can actually devote more money to things like rebuilding the squad, enhancing facilities, hiring more staffers, and growing the club.
- A ton of people likely get fired at Everton, as the club must break even.
- The club cannot spend any more money on signings. They may even sell players.
- Local businesses are affected the most, these are folks who provide things like catering services, produce, florists, etc.
- The Big Kahuna: Going into administration can trigger certain clauses in player contracts that allow them to leave for free. I have seen it happen with teams in the EFL, but the situation remains subjective. Any player with such a clause would need assurances from the new owners before the takeover is complete.
Some Questions I think are FAQs
Is Michael Dell buying Everton?
No, Michael Dell is not buying Everton. Michael Dell’s family office is DFO Management, which was formerly known as MSD Capital. MSD Capital was Michael Dell’s family office, meaning it exclusively invested his money. However, in 2009, MSD Capital opened up to outside investors and became an investment firm of its own. In 2023, MSD merged with BDT to create BDT+MSD, the firm that is backing the Bell and Downing bid.
They do still invest some of Dell’s money, and Dell may be their biggest investor, but as far as I know, BDT is huge itself, managing some of the capital from the Walton Family (Walmart), the Pritzkers, and the Mars Family. BDT’s founder, Byron Trott, is worth about $3.2 billion alone. Trott is considered a legend at Goldman, where he helped Buffett structure his investment in Goldman Sachs during the financial crisis of 2008. One of my ex-bosses worked at Goldman during this period under Trott’s team and considers him a legend, even saying he single-handedly saved Goldman Sachs by convincing Buffett to invest and structuring some wild deals.
One thing I know for sure is BDT+MSD would likely pursue a debt-based financing structure. They are not built to go heavy into equity-based financing for sports teams. BDT+MSD have already done a bunch of debt-based deals; Everton won’t be different. In the scenario where Bell and Downing succeed in taking over, Everton would likely owe a lot of money to BDT+MSD.
Would Bell and Downing with BDT+MSD make sense?
My take here is no. Running a football club is no joke. Even though Bell and Downing being Evertonians makes it ideal, I am not entirely convinced of their ability to run a team. Everton would still be severely constrained financially, as they would owe money to BDT+MSD, and Bell and Downing wouldn’t be able to pump a lot of cash into the business from their end.
There is nothing that guarantees Everton will not see the same scenario as it does now, three years after Bell and Downing take over. Private equity folks make sense, as they come in knowing they may know other clubs but don’t know much about Everton. They will, by default, bring on Evertonians on the board, and will have much more incentive to run it over the long term, as the only way they see a return is through actually growing the club economically, which only means a better Everton on and off the pitch.
Are BDT+MSD backing only Bell and Downing?
No, BDT+MSD are free to back anyone in the contention. They are committing to debt-based financing, so as long as the buyer is credible enough, they should have no problem going ahead. Considering they are backing Bell and Downing, I would be surprised if others in the race did not get better financing terms.
As I said, allegiances in debt-based financing are fluid. The hard truth here is BDT+MSD would likely be calling up other potential buyers who bid to see if BDT+MSD can provide financing for their deal. Debt-based financing for a Premier League club is pretty much a dream scenario for any firm, as the underlying asset securing the loan is more stable than in other deals.
Simply put, BDT+MSD are not competing with other potential buyers; they are competing with firms like JP Morgan, Sixth Street, Ares, Arctos, etc., who may want to front one of the buyers.
What’s up with A-Capital?
I do not know. Conflicting things online. I doubt A-Capital will get to invest anything more in Everton, through debt or through equity. I also read that their financial position is under question as the rating they rely on no longer reflects their financial standing. However, I still do not know what there position is.
Who do I want to see win the bid?
Biased towards MSP Sports Partners because of Jeff Moorad. If they pull the consortium through, and the other investors take over the majority club, all I can say is Everton would be lucky. That being said, there are plenty of other people willing to buy Everton with MSP. As of now, the one most likely, along with MSP, would be a dream scenario.
Also, it wont take time for someone entirely new to emerge as a suitor. That is how consortium works. People are surprised, but its literally like texting friends to pitch in and creating a group chat. Things happen over Telegram/Whatsapp/Signal. My boss had once raised $xxx million for a deal texting the LP in the deal. The conversation went along these lines.

Story so far: (can skip the bit in italics)
Adopted 2 cats in 2022, a mother and a kitten. Mother (M) was unspayed, kitten (D) was a skinny little bugger.
Both healthy enough, mum's poop could be a little soft and smelly at times but I figured that was just her poop.
Fast forward a year, i haven't spayed her yet because honestly I feel bad doing it, but i know it's the best thing to do. So I come to the compromise - i will let her have one more litter of kittens and then get her spayed. So I find a good stud cat on the net and get the deed done. A couple months later she gives birth to 5 healthy kittens and one stillborn.
I feed mum more now since she's eating for 6, but her poop becomes really bad, and the kittens have a few poop issues too. I find good homes for 4 out of the 5 and get them away, but for the fifth kitten a buyer drops out at the last minute, and I end up stuck with her (S). Anyway, she's lovely but occasionally has bright red blood in her stool which is worrying.
So i get her poop tested and it comes back with a pure growth of beta haemolytic ecoli. I then get the other two's poop tested and they also come back with beta haemolytic ecoli (predominating but not pure). They are put on a 20 day course of amox/clav, after which i get them all tested again. The older 2, M and D, now don't have signs of the infection, but S, the kitten, still has it and it is now also resistant to amox/clav.
Go back to the vet, they give her an injection of cefovecin (I think that's the name), wait a bit, get them all tested again - now M has the infection again, predominating but not pure, D is still clear and S has pure ecoli culture in her poop - BUT it is no longer flagging as resistant.
These tests were last week so I've sent them to my vet who is yet to get back to me - just asking around here if anyone has any insight.

Maybe fighting the infection on 2 fronts would be more effective? Just seeking advice here, I would like my kitties to be free of this disease and will do what needs to be done for that to happen.
(and in case you are wondering, M is spayed now and i told all the people who took kittens from me about the infection the moment S's first test came back and again when M and D's tests came back)

*** This is a rather long post and if not allowed my apologies. I’m not even sure if this is the proper place to post this but I’ve been a lurker since I had my LO & would just like to share my story…
I struggled with this for weeks. Practically from the moment I had my LO. It’s taken five weeks of debating myself, questioning myself, stressing myself out to decide the switch had to be made for myself.
I started EBF & everything was fine at first until it wasn’t. Cluster feeding kicked my butt and put a major strain on my mental health. A strain I couldn’t afford to deal with on top of everything else that comes during postpartum.
I thought pumping would solve that problem but if anything it made it worse. It was nice to be able to better see how much my LO ate and to increase my supply but almost immediately the stress of when to pump, how much I pumped, & engorgement reared its ugly head because LO had no desire to be put down. I was a “just-enough” pumper so there came the mental load of was there a better pump to buy, what pieces worked best, what style of pump would be better, creating a better schedule, what to eat to help increase supply, etc. It all came down to me not having a single moment to myself no matter how helpful my husband was when he wasn’t working. It felt like all of my free time was dedicated to pumping once I could get LO off of me long enough to do so. All because I wanted LO to exclusively drink breast milk since it’s been engraved in my brain that that’s “what’s best.”
Meanwhile I felt like my relationship with my first child took a major hit. There may be possible signs of PPD that I absolutely intend on mentioning to my doctor at my upcoming 6 week appt but the stress of pumping has absolutely exacerbated my bad moods and unfortunately my first has taken the brunt of it. I’ve been impatient, short-tempered, and overall a very unpleasant version of myself and we’ve butted heads constantly because of it. The guilt/shame that I felt when I reflected on my interactions with him was the straw that broke that camels back for me.
I finally made the choice to go EFF. I started by supplementing with formula and luckily we found a brand that LO tolerated right away with no major issue. I’ve continued pumping without a strict regimen for the sake of preventing engorging and have been able to incorporate that with the formula to make the transition smoother for LO. Finally today I’m going to be able to have a mommy/son day with my first while hubby stays home with LO. No having to worry about pumping to leave milk for hubby, wondering if I’ve pumped enough, or trying to rush through our day to make it back home for any reason. It’s a day I feel my first and I need & I couldn’t be more excited for it.
My decision felt selfish at first. I felt like a failure for giving in and not powering through to my goal of six months like I had done with my first. But then I think about my circumstances and realize that things are not the same. My family needs a better version of me. I can’t afford to go through the things I went through when I had my first. I managed but it was one of the most difficult times of my life and if I could go back and give myself the grace I needed, I would’ve done the same then that I’m doing now.
I’ve come to realize that the decision to make the switch isn’t just in the best interest of my LO but in the best interest of myself also. What good is EBF if I’m absolutely miserable? What good am I to my family if EBF/pumping stressed me out to the max?
I’m not sure if this will resonate with anyone but it’s something I thought may be helpful to share. I’m hoping at least one person who’s struggling maybe reads this and it helps tip the scales for them to make the choice that’s not just best for their LO but also a choice that’s best for them. ♥️

I enjoy hanging out in this sub, so I wanted to share my experience. Skip to the end if you want the juicy part.
I am 30F, I think I have been in a freeze / flight state since I was a teenager. I have been exposed to mold multiple times, and been quite ill and on medication, antibiotics, most of my life - which further shut down my nervous system.
I'm a woman of science, I even have a degree in Human Genetics. I shunned anything that was too "woowoo" - until I reached my breaking point.
I started bodywork in February 2024, and it has changed my life. In Aotearoa (New Zealand), bodywork is a group thing, you don't do it alone. In the 'clinic' there would be up to five people on tables each with a practitioner, and 1-2 extra practitioners walking around for extra assistance.
I screamed, cried, howled, wailed, shook at my first healing. The practitioners ground you, as they stretch your body, and affirm you are safe, that they have you. There is singing, sea salt spray, warming balms, talking, laughing, hugs. You meet the gaze of others in your session afterwards, and you share smiles, and some chats, both proud of yourself and the other person for the journey you just went on.
I did six of these bodywork sessions - called mirimiri.
It's beautiful, but it might not make a lot of sense to those unfamiliar with the tikanga of Te Ao Maori in my homeland.
My nerves were firing, tingling, it went on for weeks as my system came back online. It wasn't too painful, but it was very noticeable.
I started yoga, twice a week, now four times a week.
I do a little bit at home before bed too, Yin is my favourite.
It had been two months since my last mirimiri, and I was feeling so off.
THE JUICE:
So I signed up to a breath work experience, again it was a group healing session. The focus was on breathing in the light, and releasing whatever the body wished to let go of, no pressure, no expectations.
After some basic breathwork, and sharing time with the group we went on our journey for an hour. Breathing, laying face up in a circle with eyes covered. It forces you to tune in with your body, I could hear the breaths of the others.
Music played, and emotions swirled. Eventually the pain in my left sciatica started to play up and I was uncomfortable, panic set in. One of the practictioners came to ground me , then left, and I was able to continue. Five minutes later the discomfort was back, I ended up needing to curl into a ball on my side.
The practitioner returned, turning me onto my back again and the FEAR just RIPPED through me. She straightened me out, another practitioner came to my feet. I was so scared, so much was washing over me, they encouraged me to breathe, and to let it go, and then it happened.
My whole body started to shake, I was convulsing at the chest, my hips and legs shaking uncontrollably, my hands were quivering and it was terrifying but amazing at the same time. It felt like it would never stop, the energy was swirling in a circular motion inside me. It probably looked like I was possessed.
The practitioners hummed and breathed with me, stroking pressure points on my head and feet to ground me.
This went on for what felt like ages, but was probably only two minutes because as soon as the current song finished, my body went limp and I flopped.
I had to roll over to cough something out of my chest, have some water, and when I lay back down it was the most relaxed and safe I have ever remembered feeling, ever. I can't actually remember a time, even when I was small. A huge wave of gratitude and joy flowed over me, I felt so warm and free.
The others had different and similar experiences, it was wonderful to share our thoughts and feelings afterwards, hugs all around.
My perspective on life since that day has been forever changed. It's a lot easier to move through things, even when they're hard.

Then things get a bit easier, build your startup app to solve the pain point(s) and market to your own audience.

- unlikely but possibility of the UK widening the BN(O) settlement path to all holders
- application through UK's HM Passport Office (rather not deal with Chinese authorities)

- cheaper, easier to apply for? (UK requires countersigning)
- technically more powerful in terms of visa-free access (but which I'll probably never use)
- actually recognized as a travel document within China and HK

What are everyone’s experiences with test knitting? I signed up to do a test knit with a designer I really like, I’ve knitted a couple of their patterns, I loved the process and they fit me really well. I decided to try a test knit because I want to start designing patterns myself and was curious about the process of test knitting and what to expect. I know most indie designers like to do test knits, to see how the pattern knits up in various sizes, different yarns & knitters, and that it’s also good promo for them when they release a pattern. I attended a workshop earlier this year about basic knitting pattern design, run by someone who releases their own patterns but who trained in a yarn company, and their opinion was that test knits are a waste of time. The reason I’m asking all of this is because the test knit I’m doing is held in a discord server (a new to me app) and people have been asking questions about various things - stitch counts, wording etc - and the designer hasn’t really been replying. A couple of ‘I’ll look into that’ but then no answer has been put onto the thread, I myself asked a question a few days ago & it hasn’t been acknowledged but I know the designer has been on Instagram because they’ve posted a few stories. Is this normal? I thought they’d be checking at least once a day? I know we get the pattern for free but we’re the ones who have spent money on yarn to essentially do a favour for the designer and I just thought there’d be a bit more contact?

Baillie Gifford is considering withdrawing support from all literary festivals following vocal protests from an anti-Israel/environmental pressure group.
At least five high profile festivals have severed ties with the asset management firm and a further four festivals have been dropped by the company amid controversy around celebrity dropouts and boycotts.
Cambridge, Stratford, Wigtown and Henley festivals announced on Friday that they had been told that Baillie Gifford was ending its partnership.
Without funding from Baillie Gifford literary festivals are likely to increase ticket prices and reduce their outreach.
Following a coordinated campaign over the asset management firm’s ties to the fossil fuel industry and tangential links to Israel, concerns at the company swelled about the pressure on and safety of staff.
The row first erupted over the Hay Festival in Wales, where comedian Nish Kumar and singer Charlotte Church were among some celebrities who pulled out over the sponsorship deal. Hay eventually caved into the protesters' demands and dropped Baillie Gifford.
Edinburgh International Book Festival also ended its 20-year partnership with the firm, while the Borders Book Festival announced that their relationship with Baillie Gifford had ended following the protests. Stratford Literary Festival stated on its website that its sponsorship deal with the firm will end after this year.
All had been targeted by Fossil Free Books (FFB), a campaign group that called on authors to withdraw from the festivals and threatened to “escalate” if the festivals did not give in to their demands.
The group highlighted Baillie Gifford’s investments in companies linked to Israel’s defence, technology and cybersecurity industries. The campaigners demanded that Baillie Gifford divest from companies with “links” to “Israeli occupation, apartheid and genocide”.
It took issue with firms including Amazon, the semiconductor group Nvidia, and Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, which have links to Israel. These companies are among the most widely held stocks in the world and are hard to avoid in a diversified share portfolio. Most UK pension schemes also include investments in these US tech companies.

Our oldest has eczema, since she was about 3 weeks old. When she was a baby we lathered her up with baby soap from head to toe, used regular, scented laundry detergent, and jumped from “miracle cream” to “miracle cream” as the symptoms only seemed to get worse.
She’s 4 now and although we have identified several triggers and found steroid creams and other things that help, it is an ongoing battle. She still wakes up multiple times each night just scratching, and she can’t sleep on her own because she needs one of us nearby to apply cream.
My second was born just over a year ago. We followed the same routine as with our first, but this time with the milder soap and free/clear laundry detergent.
When he was a couple weeks old I started to see those familiar bumps on his face, neck and chest. Exactly the way it started with our first. Desperate, I went back to Google, what can we do? How can we prevent this from happening again?
Then I read the following:
Only use plain water for newborn babies. You can start using unperfumed baby bath from about 4 to 6 weeks, but be careful to only use a little so you don't damage your baby's skin.
How had I never heard this before? Where did we get the idea that we had to cover our baby in soap to make sure they’re clean??
I started putting just a couple of drops of soap in baby’s bath. The bumps cleared up in less than a week and to this day he has had no signs of any skin issues. Not even a diaper rash.
Based on the data I have… I can’t help but feel my daughter’s eczema could have been prevented.
Just needed to get this out in case there is anyone else that might have missed the message about babies only needing a tiny bit of soap, if any.

A few conversations and an effort to be more self aware have recently made me rethink most of my past. I’ve had pretty muted thoughts on it, but now i’m starting to feel like it was realllllly damaging and i was way too sheltered to notice or care. Really would appreciate an outside perspective.
born in alberta canada (I guess this was the first mistake badum tss) Lived with my mom and two siblings while my dad worked and lived in nigeria to support us. we were very well off Never considered myself to be in a single parent household but by definition that’s kinda what it was. In hindsight my mother was grossly negligent despite being a stay at home, to me it was just fun to be allowed to be online/ playing games all day :P
The major issue of my life has been Selective Mutism, the triggering incident was when someone in kindergarten called me a slur and i didn’t know how to respond. From that moment til i graduated high school I never spoke a single word to someone my own age outside of my family/ adjacent. Looking back, any normal parent would’ve tried to do something about this. The most my mom would do was ask me if i made any friends at school a few times in 3rd grade. When my dad heard about it years later i got the craziest beating ever. Had someee friends from church and the neighborhood but most times my mother would tell me i’m not allowed to be friends with them due to “witchcraft” she’s schizophrenic.
In 2011, we visited dad in nigeria, my mother’s schizophrenia told her to say fuckit to the return tickets and have us begin a whole new life there without warning. This is messed up enough but what was more messed up was both my parents just acting like it wasn’t happening, without any explanation being given or like a shred of acknowledgement, all the kids could do was make jokes to each other n withdraw from life to pretend it wasn’t happening. Never knew if we’d go back to our old lives, shit was so freaky. I later learned that the trend in our enclave of society was to go to a western country for university so i figured id just do good in school so i could go back “home” with that method and start over. Otherwise, i had no motivation in life after that incident. It really was handled in a way where life felt so useless. Living with my dad was about the same as what i was used to, another negligent parent. Not much can really be said.
i never knew how to feel about my predicament, i spent all my free time distracting myself with Roblox and other games, and i would play in the loneliest ways i could find. Safe to say, high school was a blur. I also feel like i weaponized my mutism to affirm to myself that i wasn’t supposed to be living there? I just tried to do as little as i needed. I did make a few friends if you could call them that. I try to really examine that time but i find it really hard to grasp. You kinda look forward to your teenage years as a child, a lot is supposed to happen. Not much happened. After i graduated in 2020, i went to a nice university in ontario for one year (online classes era) before taking a gap year to figure things out. Ended up pivoting to doing Roblox full time. Honestly i looked forward to university a lot cause i felt like i knew it would help my social skills. I just had no motivation education wise, i simply had never seriously thought that far ahead. Honestly the only life plan i had since 2nd grade was to be gone by 20.
I found a lot of success in 2022 now living alone in toronto, so since 2021 i genuinely haven’t been in, like any real life social situations. I mastered isolation long ago and never figured that my financial freedom meant i could go outside and mingle and enjoy things. I don’t really know how to, i’ve never ever done that whatsoever. I definitely tried man. but looking back at 2022 the shell shock was still so real. I’m addicted to watching Twitch for social stimulation. One time i donated 50 subs i knew i had gone too deep bruh i signed up for therapy so quick… I only donated 6 today
Today I went to an amusement park. I’ve been trying to think of myself more as a normal person, but the more i observe people the more pain, regret i feel as i see countless normal interactions present such a stark contrast to the type of life i’ve lived. I just want to integrate into society, but i feel so alien. Looking at other people, i feel like i was failed by my parents and robbed of agency, purpose, confidence and the ability to enjoy life beyond music and a few other escapes. Going outside always feels like i got a gun to my head, idk how to describe it. people are so scary to me

born in alberta canada (I guess this was the first mistake badum tss) Lived with my mom and two siblings while my dad worked and lived in nigeria to support us. we were very well off Never considered myself to be in a single parent household but by definition that’s kinda what it was. In hindsight my mother was grossly negligent despite being a stay at home, to me it was just fun to be allowed to be online/ playing games all day :P
The major issue of my life has been Selective Mutism, the triggering incident was when someone in kindergarten called me a slur and i didn’t know how to respond. From that moment til i graduated high school I never spoke a single word to someone my own age outside of my family/ adjacent. Looking back, any normal parent would’ve tried to do something about this. The most my mom would do was ask me if i made any friends at school a few times in 3rd grade. When my dad heard about it years later i got the craziest beating ever. Had someee friends from church and the neighborhood but most times my mother would tell me i’m not allowed to be friends with them due to “witchcraft” she’s schizophrenic.
In 2011, we visited dad in nigeria, my mother’s schizophrenia told her to say fuckit to the return tickets and have us begin a whole new life there without warning. This is messed up enough but what was more messed up was both my parents just acting like it wasn’t happening, without any explanation being given or like a shred of acknowledgement, all the kids could do was make jokes to each other n withdraw from life to pretend it wasn’t happening. Never knew if we’d go back to our old lives, shit was so freaky. I later learned that the trend in our enclave of society was to go to a western country for university so i figured id just do good in school so i could go back “home” with that method and start over. Otherwise, i had no motivation in life after that incident. It really was handled in a way where life felt so useless. Living with my dad was about the same as what i was used to, another negligent parent. Not much can really be said.
i never knew how to feel about my predicament, i spent all my free time distracting myself with Roblox and other games, and i would play in the loneliest ways i could find. Safe to say, high school was a blur. I also feel like i weaponized my mutism to affirm to myself that i wasn’t supposed to be living there? I just tried to do as little as i needed. I did make a few friends if you could call them that. I try to really examine that time but i find it really hard to grasp. You kinda look forward to your teenage years as a child, a lot is supposed to happen. Not much happened. After i graduated in 2020, i went to a nice university in ontario for one year (online classes era) before taking a gap year to figure things out. Ended up pivoting to doing Roblox full time. Honestly i looked forward to university a lot cause i felt like i knew it would help my social skills. I just had no motivation education wise, i simply had never seriously thought that far ahead. Honestly the only life plan i had since 2nd grade was to be gone by 20.
I found a lot of success in 2022 now living alone in toronto, so since 2021 i genuinely haven’t been in, like any real life social situations. I mastered isolation long ago and never figured that my financial freedom meant i could go outside and mingle and enjoy things. I don’t really know how to, i’ve never ever done that whatsoever. I definitely tried man. but looking back at 2022 the shell shock was still so real. I’m addicted to watching Twitch for social stimulation. One time i donated 50 subs i knew i had gone too deep bruh i signed up for therapy so quick… I only donated 6 today
Today I went to an amusement park. I’ve been trying to think of myself more as a normal person, but the more i observe people the more pain, regret i feel as i see countless normal interactions present such a stark contrast to the type of life i’ve lived. I just want to integrate into society, but i feel so alien. Looking at other people, i feel like i was failed by my parents and robbed of agency, purpose, confidence and the ability to enjoy life beyond music and a few other escapes.  | TL;DR My dog tore her CCL and has 2 tumors, my bfs dog impaled himself and got a really contagious infection. I find out as I’m picking up my dog from surgery and cannot go home for ~10 days. One of her incisions opened while I was at work, and her second knee ruptured. All events happened over the span of ~9 weeks. (Please read for all info bc I know this sounds like we are horrendous dog-parents) submitted by Erindylyn to DogAdvice [link] [comments] My pup Laika (black/brown/white dog, 6) ruptured her CCL, I took her to an emergency vet who told me it was a partial tear (no imaging recommended) and to follow up with her vet in 4 weeks. I limited her movement (per ER vets instruction) and went to the follow up 4 weeks later, imaging shows it is a full rupture and we schedule corrective surgery. I had to schedule the surgery two weeks out due to my work being inflexible, and the surgeon only works days that I work. I was even more strict with keeping her from moving unless necessary to avoid further injury and to avoid the opposite leg rupturing, as it already was showing signs of inflammation (following regular vets instructions). I also bought plenty of stuff to help out following surgery (enrichment toys, lick mats, orthopedic beds for the kennel and the bedroom, ice packs etc.) The week before her surgery, my boyfriend‘s dog spike (9) tried to jump the fence at grandmas (where he lived as a farm dog) and he punctured his groin on the fence. He’s done this once before (years ago) so we decided spike should move in with us after that emergency surgery. He only lived apart because we wanted a fence for him first. When I scheduled laikas surgery, we planned to take off two tumors as they were mass cell and we weren’t sure if they were aggressive. Surgery goes perfectly, she had the two mass cells removed as well as corrective CCL surgery and the vet called to let me know there was a partial tear in her second knee, but we could wait until her first knee was stable enough to go through the second surgery. My vet does not offer bilateral correction. Since I work night shift, I dropped her off for surgery and then went home and took a nap. While I was sleeping my boyfriend took spike for a second surgery (different vet) because his cone was too short so he was able to get at his incision while we were sleeping and it reopened. While in surgery, his blood cultures came back positive for MRSP (similar to MRSA) And I found out as I was driving to pick up Laika. All I had was a towel and a leash… everything I bought to prepare for her aftercare was now contaminated and I also could not take her home. I took her to my moms and stayed there until spike was no longer contagious. I took her home after I completely bombed my house with every disinfectant I could find. Laika was doing amazing and was a week ahead of schedule in terms of mobility/healing but her elbow incision was problematic. Laikas front elbow incision (tumor) opened from adjusting In the kennel while we were at work so they had staples put in. This delayed her physical therapy. Now we are 19 days post op so she was supposed to be using a water treadmill. They chose to put her on an incline treadmill since her incision can’t get wet. The physical therapist was aware of her condition and her other legs deteriorating status. After her physical therapy, I knew she would be sore and she was limping more after that session (yesterday). Now her second knee must have fully ruptured because she’s gone completely lame on that leg since her PT yesterday afternoon. I am following instructions from an emergency vet that I called after I got off work tonight and called elsewhere for second opinion. I know it’s extremely common for the second CCL to rupture soon after the first, but I did everything I could to limit her movement and followed the post op care my vet gave me to prevent further injury to her second knee. Spike is on the mend and should be cone free in a few more days. Laika on the other hand, is currently set up on an orthopedic bed in her kennel with food and water. I can post an update if people are interested once I get more information from my vet when they open on Monday. I would like to add that I have anxiety and due to that I’m incredibly anal with any instructions I get from the vets so I know I followed everything to the letter and I review everything daily. I’m just thankful for the pet insurance I’ve been paying into for ~5 years (fetch) and that my boyfriend was financially prepared to pay for spikes surgeries since he hasn’t got insurance on him. |
