As much as the older folks are 'behind the times', you need to remember who is still disproportionately in charge of companies and how they are structured, even in the tech sector. Hell, I had my dad (the BOOMIEST BOOMER I know) help me out.
I went to my 7th job fair after graduation about 2-3 months ago (Feb 2024) and my dad came with me as moral support. Just as usual with most job fairs, there isn't anyone there actively recruiting for engineering / IT / software roles because of the current market. BUT, my dad was having a 'fun' chat with the CTO of a random medium sized company and they both hit it off HARD. Both of them were born in the same part of India, went to the same temples there, and they just kept on chatting. Next thing I know, this same CTO came to me and asked if I was competent at engineering and he'd like to interview me on the spot, but sadly his company had no open software roles. I agreed.
I shit you not, this test was this simple and BLEW it:

1. What is Ohms law? (I got this right)
2. What is an inverter? (I got this wrong)
3. What is a diode? What is it's symbol? (I got this right)
4. Explain what an LED is and what it's symbol is. (I got this half right)
5. What is the purpose of a rectifier? (I got this wrong)
6. Questions about embedded C/C++ (I don't even know the language well T.T)

Thing is, the interviewer was really interested NOT in my capabilities or even my previous experiences. He was intrigued at just how many questions I asked and how I even asked some questions he didn't know the answer to, and how quickly I learnt the information. He told me to come to the company's HQ because he wanted me to meet the R&D manager.
1 week later
I met the R&D guy. Something I noticed is that this whole department was filled with dinosaurs. Not a single human within a 1 km radius appeared below the age of 50 outside of the technicians / trades folk. These dinos didn't even know how to post a job online without the help of HR (I'm sure everyone here knows how HR writes posts and filters applications). Just after half an hour of talking and the R&D manager apparently loved me because "this kid knows jack shit but he's a sponge, he'll learn faster than anyone else we got", which is apparently what R&D is actively looking for in fresh recruits.
Then bam-bam-boom, I got my position starting at this pay, with a guaranteed pay boost after onboarding + training is finished in 6 months, while I bombed every interview question / test. My position is as an R&D Engineer specializing in Embedded Design / Programming. Hell, one of my first projects is to tinker around and try to create and integrate a custom trained AI model with Altium to see if the autopathing system and autolayouts can be made better and human centric if possible.
I looked into this company's history and they have an average employee tenure of 10+ years without a single person ever being laid off ever since 1985. People wouldn't actively stay at a company that long without job hopping if the pay wasn't satisfactory or if it was toxic. Plus it was written into my contract that base pay is tied to inflation!
What are the lessons here?

1. Don't quit. It's a shitty market, but a 0.01% chance is INFINITELY better than 0% if you stop trying.
2. Have a boomer / gen x person help you network and connect you with other boomer / gen x people. Boomers and Gen X folks hire more based on word of mouth and interactions than younger folk like me who focus on the 'skills' part of the resume.
3. Become a sponge. The more absorbent you are and the more questions you ask, the more the senior engineers will love you and actively want you on their team.
4. Target industries that are filled with older folks in white collar positions (assuming you want white collar positions). Here are some examples:
   1. Metallurgy (filled with trades people and old engineers, they are actively looking for fresh blood in white collar areas).
   2. Agriculture (mechanization).
   3. Carpentry (same as metallurgy above).
   4. Welding companies (they have active R&D for building welding machines, just like metallurgy and carpentry sectors).
5. Learn, learn, and learn. Especially for the first job you get, especially so if you don't have internships / co-op experience, people will look for your ability to learn. How fast can you learn everything we teach you?
6. HR seldom knows what the company wants / needs when they post job listings. Getting out there and talking to NOT the recruiters but the engineers will give you that edge. Bonus points if you also do bullet point 2.
7. Be ambitious with your future goals. Not just pretend; you'll run out of steam. If you are ambitious despite your current situation, people will see it and engineers / senior developers will like it. That was also one of the things a senior there liked about me and explicitly said "you're ambitions behind closed doors, I love it, you'll go far and I hope you take the company there with you; more profits for all of us!".
8. Nepotism isn't the right word for how many here think of the job situation, it's just much MUCH more networking than previously thought. This has it's own issues like for those from disadvantaged / foreign backgrounds, but this world isn't fair, and that won't change reality.

I have seen a lot of students posting things, like, I just finished my +2, bachelors, and I want to go to USA. Kun consultancy jaam, yo kasari garam, tyo kasari garam, in reddit and in facebook, and I reply to a lot of students in the facebook.

I have had this thought of creating a website that provides all the helpful materials to the students who are trying to prepare for the USA. It will have things like:
1) gre/ielts/toefl.. study materials
2) lor and sop samples.
3) A tool that could help them short list the universities.
4) Interview experience of others.
5) Tutorial videos on variety of things, like, how to fill out the college application, how to approach the professors for assistantships/scholarships, and things as such.
I have already started working on it myself and have got the first feature work perfectly. The users can share the study materials with each other. My concern is, is this idea really applicable? It concerns me, because I have seen a lot of students who dont want to take any responsibility themselves, and strictly seek consultancy's advice. If this website becomes live someday with all the features that I have mentioned, will you, as a student accept it instead of going to consultancy? What do you think of this concept?
My other concern is, to implement 3rd feature (i.e to create a tool that could help the students short list the universities). It will require a lot of data. Those students who are already in the USA, how possible is it for them to give the data (no personal data). The data it requires is, what you studied in Nepal, what were your test scores, what universities you got accepted into, for what courses, and do you have any scholarship there? I am not doing this for any profit and if I create the website, its services will be free of use for all. If you are already in the USA I need your thoughts on this.

boyfriend treated his ex better than me
for context, me and my boyfriend has been official for almost a year, and he had exes and the last one was a situationship that went on for about 5 months lang.
at first sobrang okay we had no problems. but me being me i was a cool gf at first, medyo yung describe sa gone girl monologue pero may ounce of self respect pa rin naman kahit papano.
but i cant help but compare— i know my fault im sorry. ang dami kasing traces ng ex nya all over his soc meds na di nya p nadedelete and palagi kong nahhuli yon. he bought his ex situationship flowers and wrote long paragraphs everytime they had a problem to fix things between them. me i never really received gifts from him, his last bday gift was something he bought but chose not to use na. ako gift giver talaga ako and more on acts of service. as the rel progresses rin i find na ako yung pinaka nagffix ng problems even though ako yung naunang mabother about something. he would either go silent, turn things into an argument of how i always provoke him, or sleep. sometimes i have to go to him or call him whenever he escapes fixing problems rin. although i can understand since im a very expressive person and i always want to confront even the smallest things, not to turn into an argument naman pero para lang ma acknowledge whatever i feel.
seeing how he was able to send paragraphs, send flowers, and go out of his way to fix things with his ex-situationship made me somehow question my worth. i dont know if pulling back would make a difference, i know he loves me pero i feel like he is more complacent with me as compared to his past.

I have not been to my local stealership in a while and they sent me a letter for a synthetic oil change for $21.95. Prius was pretty close to 5,000 miles, so I took them up on it. While I was at the desk of my service advisor, there were two other advisors talking at the desk behind us. I didn't get the entire conversation, but one was saying how he had xx number of brakes and the other one said he had xx number of batteries. The louder of the two said that he only needed a couple more of (something) and he was going to have a very nice vacation. While they are talking about all this, I said to my advisor "don't they realize there is a customer that can hear them?" It was irritating that one of them was especially bragging about what services he had sold. There were four things recommended for my car totalling up to over $1,200 with $361 for changing the spark plugs! I had already had three out of the four things done. The one not done was something called Climate Control Service (EVAP service), but I think I can live without that.

Could anyone offer advice for me as I apply this cycle. I am a traditional applicant but I unfortunately scored a bit low on my MCAT compared to my FL averages but it's too late to take it again this cycle. Do AP readers care if I use ”I” pronouns consistently in my argumentative essay? I was asked a prompt about possessions, and my thought process was using myself as evidence for each body paragraph. I first wrote about a dog leash, then my grandfather’s ring, and then contradicting a claim talking about attachment issues affecting me. I’ve been stressing about this ever since I took the exam, please let me know I’m fine.

Just few weeks left and on Friday they were hit with two projects due this week: a 5 paragraph essay on who they would want to be a substitute teacher and why. The other project is a creative poster on a country of their choice. That one is a breeze and dye Friday. The essay was due yesterday. She already has anxiety attacks before and after school, but she wasn't able to finish the final draft and if half the grade means for the marking period, she'll fail. I wrote lengthy email asking what this is supposed to teach the students, and told her to make time before the end of this week ro sit down and discuss what her strategies are for teaching. When there's a class party, she sends out a text to parents that there's been a great deal of bad behaviors, with no specifics nor does she reach out to parents about it, and doesn't respond to emails. My Daughter hasn't smiled in months. Last month she had a dentist appointment and they called the week before because they were having trouble finding her in the system. I called member services and they confirmed that she was no longer enrolled. I had to take care of myself before I could handle these things, so I'm really.
As teachers, do you justify putting this much pressure on students? If they knew in the beginning of this marking period that they had an essay that would be half of their grade, they would have had time to work on it here and there until she handed out the specifics of the essay. But 4 days? Please give me some advice here!

I have vowed to not buy one more thing until all of the “stuff” I drug home is gone. That means either sold or donated. Currently I have a fairly large amount of things which will bring good money when sold. I’ve been listing them and have done well on a few online platforms. -My son’s huge Lego collection which he returned to the original boxes. This represents approx a dishwasher cardboard box full of them. -Other things are a few actual MCM household items all in good condition with the research on its manufacturer and background ready to be listed. -Lower on the list but “sell able” are many things which should sell but the actual money I’ll get is peanuts. The advantage is I get some $ and most are in person pick up. I don’t have to have anyone load a car to drive anything to donate.
With this general information- please advise me on strategies for this Saturday. My daughter’s friend has agreed to come devote a few hours to help me. I’m paying her, which I am happy to do. I’ve suffered a physical injury that prevents me from walking much and I can’t carry anything, so I really need the help.
There’s 3 bedrooms, a bath, a hallway closet and a knee wall attic space. Every room and everything is clean, either in a storage container or box. Each room has like or similar things in it. From here I’m lost as to how to best proceed. -Some of the things my 3 kids left me to deal with. -Some of it my family dumped on me when the childhood home was cleaned out and sold. -Some of it I picked up at some point with the intention of flipping but didn’t. -there are a lot of sentimental things, photos, kids cards and papers, my own memories of vacations and people. -I was given almost all of one family member’s needle craft projects. All started but many not finished. Also their finished pieces which were entered in contests. - I have a lot of supplies for activities I won’t be able to do in the future. I’ve tried to discipline my self with a 5 choice list. These are the things I know I’ll always want to do in the future. The rest should go.
Normally I would use the keep, donate and trash system. I’m leery that will only become further churning, we don’t need churning! The friend is smart, young and able bodied. My thought is to have her help by putting the obvious “keep”, “sell”, “donate” and “toss” items in like areas. Then the things which are donate or toss, have her bring them downstairs for my spouse to take out to car and or garage.
What do you see which is going to derail this de-clutter? What suggestions can you give to help me/us better accomplish this headache of a job? Am I correct that the little written things from the kids, the trinkets and homemade string and pony bead necklaces are pretty much a toss?

Hey there! Its been a while since I have wanted to roleplay but I am feeling the itch. I want to be straightforward from the get go;

Me and my girl have been together for 4 years now. We’ve been on dates and vacations together. Met each others family. The whole 9. My parents are terrible with money so I’ve been paying bills since I could work. Which means I wasn’t able to just leave when I turned 18. Then my mom had an accident yada yada yada fast forward 4/5 years my girl lives with me and my parents.
Here’s my thing, yeah there are problems that come from not having our own house but we handle. The thing is she won’t cook for me. She cleans so much less than me. She doesn’t have any hobbies or interests that she dedicates her time to. I pay for everything. Our rent, car insurance, I helped buy her car. Everything but her phone bill.
I’ve told her that this bothers me. I’ve told her that to be my partner, the mother of my children, she has to develop into a more functional capable adult. It feels like it falls on deaf ears. Her childhood trauma makes it so difficult to communicate about anything serious because she freezes up and can barely form a sentence over the simplest adult conversations.
Now to the meat and potatoes
She fell asleep a couple weeks ago on her phone. I woke up and noticed her snap was open and I saw she had a 2/3 week streak some guy. She also had notifications turned off for said guys messages. It didn’t take much for me to get that the notifications were off so I didn’t see when they were texting eachother.
I confronted her about it. I told her that I’m not okay with her snapping guys especially without telling me. She agreed that if I did it she would be bothered so I told her to quit. A few days ago I woke up with her asleep on the phone again. She’s snapping the guy and the message she had been typing as she fell asleep before she could send said something like “it’s okay boo you’re good etc”
I confront her again. She tells me they’re just friends. I’m over it at this point. I already feel like I’m raising a child and now I feel like she’s playing with me.
What should my next steps be here. I want to cut my losses but don’t know if I’m overthinking.

My 4 yo and I love going to the library together. There are so many lovely, charming, educational and clever books.
And than there’s the vague poetry.
These books, with whimsical pictures and paragraphs (PARAGRAPHS! It’s a small kids book! As if bedtime wasn’t enough of a production already!) about breathing in the dew of May and the whole world is us and the begonias blossom etc etc etc.
Most recently I grabbed a book on our way out called Everything You Need for a Treehouse. Seems like a cute, straightforward premise. Nope. It’s a nonsensical essay about the need to look up and the sap within and time. Lovely pictures though.
I end up making up my own words/story for these books as neither my son or I have the patience to read them. Ugh.

Hi, I was sexually assaulted in my apartment building by a complete stranger who is a resident and it was all caught on CCTV. I had reported it to the police on early morning that same night 12/5, reported it to security and saw the CCTV myself and security wrote a statement with timestamps. Also I emailed the manager that same night 12/5 at 00:45.
I did not stay in my building on that night and I stayed at my friends house because I felt very scared and shaken up and unsafe. I returned to the property that evening as the police had said that they were going to come to my building to speak to me however they didn’t and we had a phone call instead where they made me aware that they were sent the cctv and a written statement by my security guard. On Monday morning 13/5 around 11:30. I had anticipated that management would have said something to me. However the manager had not yet replied to my email so I went downstairs to speak to them. Unfortunately I did not record the conversation however the information disclosed during the conversation would not be information that I would know had we not had that conversation and I also followed up with an email to confirm that we had a meeting and that he was still in the building, that morning 15:28. During the meeting the managers had made me aware that they had not removed him and that he was still in the building living in the building with no consequences. As a previous residential advisor in my old university for 2 years I know how safeguarding works. This was very alarming for me and I was very scared to still be there. During this meeting the main manager disclosed that the man is living in an apartment rented by the company. He works for who rent 7 to 8 apartments within my building. It was also suggested that because he’s from another country this might just be his customs but what he did was absolutely sexual assault and I don’t think sexual assault is a custom of any country. Also the other manager suggested that one of the options of the situation would be that I leave, not him but myself. They also made several comments asking me if he was drunk or high however the things he was saying during the interaction are not the things that you would say if you are not sober he was competent enough to do what he did and also apologise and also we had a conversation in both English and Spanish as I speak both and I could tell he spoke Spanish so I spoke to him in Spanish and he apologised in Spanish so that’s not a drunk or high man. Also following this meeting I had asked for a list of things that she said that they were going to email me following this meeting and that they were getting in a meeting with the senior management on that same day. I did not stay in the building that night either as I felt very unsafe and completely not safeguarded by my building who claim to have a 24/7 security. Also despite knowing a crime had occurred within their building they did not send any mass email alerting the residence of the building that there is a criminal in the building. And in the meeting, they also did say that this is the first time something like this has happened in this building.
They still hadn’t emailed me by Tuesday. On Tuesday, they sent me an email at 9:30. In this email they said they were having another keyword* (and in the meeting, they also did say that this is the first time something like this has happened in this building) another meeting with the senior managers and they were going to tell me the result of this meeting by 11:30 on the same day. At 10:18 they emailed me to tell me the resident would be removed that same day however before this email they called me to which I said just email me as I think it’s important to have a paper trail of this whole situation. Also, some of the information I requested was sensitive information so I will have to go through the GDPR person to get this information which is fine. I will do this. At 14:37 they emailed me to make me aware that the occupier of the apartment has now vacated the premises. In the email they also gave me a link to their complaints procedure as they can anticipate that I am going to sue the fuck out of them for their negligence. Also, whilst all of this was going on, I am a masters student and I was meant to have an exam on Monday however due to the whole situation I was very shaken up and I meant to have an exam on Thursday and I mentally cannot bring myself to do that, so theyre also affecting my education as I will have to do my exams in August whilst also doing my thesis at the same time, which will be very stressful. I have also spoken to my GP who has given me a not fit for Work note and everybody at my university to do with well-being and security and support who I could have possibly spoken to. I have also spoken to the mental health support at my life insurance. And I am waiting for counselling victim support from the police. I am still going through the contract however the contract does state that tenants need to follow the house rules and if you don’t follow the house rules the landlord can kick you out immediately.

I have lived here since October and my tenancy will be over in October. The criminal investigation is still ongoing and I haven’t gone to the police to make my official statement yet as it has not been assigned to an officer, however that is separate from this.
Please help me I am genuinely so angry. I cannot believe that this is the situation that I’ve been in and that this is how this has been handled.

I'm giving one of my favorite book series a reread, and it's reminded me how interesting the setting of Roshar is. Also, it's been some time since I've done a long-lasting RP, so I'd love to run something in the complex and dangerous world of Roshar. Don't worry if your knowledge of the setting patchy or nonexistent as long as you're interested in a fantasy world full of mystery, politics, and magic.
About me some, you can call me Star. I'm 25, work a 9-5, and all my hobbies are the type of nerd stuff you'd expect. Fantasy, TTRPGs, Warhammer, MTG, all that jazz, haha. I'll be writing in 3rd person as I'm DMing and would prefer my partner does the same, and I generally shoot for 3 paragraph responses but that will often change as I really just write whatever needs written. Long responses to set up scenes or explain complicated scenarios, short responses for back and forth conversation, and such. I'm sure you get it. I can probably manage a few responses at work, but mostly, I'll be available between 6pm-2am EST on weekdays. Weekends are totally free for me, though.

I’m going through the entire Bible for the first time.
I’m in Genesis, and I must admit, I’m est really confused. Here’s a few reasons:

1. The numeric values of peoples ages, when they became fathers, when they had kids, how old their kids were, etc - I’m just struggling to understand the value of why this information is included in biblical text? From my perspective, it seems like non-value adding content. For example, see the first few paragraphs of “from Shem to Abram” in Genesis 11.
   
2. See Genesis 6: 5-8. I’m reading the NIV version of the Bible. On 2 accounts in the above text, the word “regret” is used. I’m failing to wrap my head around God having regrets. I’ve looked at God as the all knowing, all wise, the only one aware of the past, present, and future. Regrets come from mistakes or matters one wish they could change. I don’t believe the all knowing or all wise would have regrets or wish they could change things, as that contradicts the characteristics mentioned.
   

Surely when God created human he knew what humans would do.
I recall many Christian lectures where the pastor was talking about God knowing YOU before you were even born. He orchestrated your life, etc.
How can God have regrets and regret making humans on earth?

1. The great flood occurred to wipe out the wickedness and restart. I’m held up here for 2 reasons:

A — Jesus came after the great flood to save the world. He’d only need to save the world if things went off track again. They did. But then is it correct to say the flood didn’t serve its purpose?
B — one may argue there is more violence in this world following the death of Jesus than before Jesus or before the great flood. If God stepped in to cleanse the world with the flood thousands of years ago, why not cleanse it again?
I write these questions to not debate religion. I recently accepted Christ in my life due to searching for God for many years and Jesus presented himself to me after sincere prayer.

Hi, I was sexually assaulted in my apartment building by a complete stranger who is a resident and it was all caught on CCTV. I had reported it to the police on early morning that same night 12/5, reported it to security and saw the CCTV myself and security wrote a statement with timestamps. Also I emailed the manager that same night 12/5 at 00:45.
I did not stay in my building on that night and I stayed at my friends house because I felt very scared and shaken up and unsafe. I returned to the property that evening as the police had said that they were going to come to my building to speak to me however they didn’t and we had a phone call instead where they made me aware that they were sent the cctv and a written statement by my security guard. On Monday morning 13/5 around 11:30. I had anticipated that management would have said something to me. However the manager had not yet replied to my email so I went downstairs to speak to them. Unfortunately I did not record the conversation however the information disclosed during the conversation would not be information that I would know had we not had that conversation and I also followed up with an email to confirm that we had a meeting and that he was still in the building, that morning 15:28. During the meeting the managers had made me aware that they had not removed him and that he was still in the building living in the building with no consequences. As a previous residential advisor in my old university for 2 years I know how safeguarding works. This was very alarming for me and I was very scared to still be there. During this meeting the main manager disclosed that the man is living in an apartment rented by the company. He works for who rent 7 to 8 apartments within my building. It was also suggested that because he’s from another country this might just be his customs but what he did was absolutely sexual assault and I don’t think sexual assault is a custom of any country. Also the other manager suggested that one of the options of the situation would be that I leave, not him but myself. They also made several comments asking me if he was drunk or high however the things he was saying during the interaction are not the things that you would say if you are not sober he was competent enough to do what he did and also apologise and also we had a conversation in both English and Spanish as I speak both and I could tell he spoke Spanish so I spoke to him in Spanish and he apologised in Spanish so that’s not a drunk or high man. Also following this meeting I had asked for a list of things that she said that they were going to email me following this meeting and that they were getting in a meeting with the senior management on that same day. I did not stay in the building that night either as I felt very unsafe and completely not safeguarded by my building who claim to have a 24/7 security. Also despite knowing a crime had occurred within their building they did not send any mass email alerting the residence of the building that there is a criminal in the building. And in the meeting, they also did say that this is the first time something like this has happened in this building.
They still hadn’t emailed me by Tuesday. On Tuesday, they sent me an email at 9:30. In this email they said they were having another keyword* (and in the meeting, they also did say that this is the first time something like this has happened in this building) another meeting with the senior managers and they were going to tell me the result of this meeting by 11:30 on the same day. At 10:18 they emailed me to tell me the resident would be removed that same day however before this email they called me to which I said just email me as I think it’s important to have a paper trail of this whole situation. Also, some of the information I requested was sensitive information so I will have to go through the GDPR person to get this information which is fine. I will do this. At 14:37 they emailed me to make me aware that the occupier of the apartment has now vacated the premises. In the email they also gave me a link to their complaints procedure as they can anticipate that I am going to sue the fuck out of them for their negligence. Also, whilst all of this was going on, I am a masters student and I was meant to have an exam on Monday however due to the whole situation I was very shaken up and I meant to have an exam on Thursday and I mentally cannot bring myself to do that, so theyre also affecting my education as I will have to do my exams in August whilst also doing my thesis at the same time, which will be very stressful. I have also spoken to my GP who has given me a not fit for Work note and everybody at my university to do with well-being and security and support who I could have possibly spoken to. I have also spoken to the mental health support at my life insurance. And I am waiting for counselling victim support from the police. I am still going through the contract however the contract does state that tenants need to follow the house rules and if you don’t follow the house rules the landlord can kick you out immediately.

Hey all! I'm 26 F, around 5'6"- 5'9" and weigh around 185. I also don't have the money for a trainer or a gym membership.
I decided I wanted to finally get rid of the extra fat I've been glaring at for a while now. Most of it ranges from my stomach to thighs. However, by no means do I have little muscle, I used to lift regularly at my job aka hide a beds, couches, things like that. So it's not all fat per say..
My goal is to get to around 130.
As of two weeks ago I started going to the free gym at my complex, I generally go for 1.5-2 hours and I'm determined to go 3-5 days a week (mainly 4 to 5 but I stand all day at work and I don't want to push my feet too hard as there was one or two days it actually hurt to stand after a short time) I do 30 mins on bike, 30 on treadmill and the rest goes to leg press/extention, then crunches and planks and respective rest time. I think I got a decent system down but I mainly just do the same things every time and listen to my body when it needs a day or tell myself to take a day for everything to heal.
I also changed my diet up a bit. In the mornings/throughout the day I drink a smoothie and I don't have as much potatoes/rice/bagels etc and try to do more veg. I also think I cut down portion sizes for lunch and dinner but I'm not really sure what correct ones are. So I'm in limbo there.
I'm basically looking for advice in any way shape or form to improve what I'm already doing. I'd also like to know any stretches targeting the lower back as a previous injury has flared up a tad with all this working out
Good/better exercises to try (not a lot of equipment ones as there's little to work with at the gym I have)? Meals/portions/snack ideas? Anything and everything is welcome.

Season 5 is such an unbearable nightmare of Brandi's unhinged behavior. I can't even put towards how astounded I am by her behavior, lack of boundaries, utter disrespect for everyone around her. Yes, the other women have all had their issues, but Brandi really takes the cake. I had a hard time with LVP and Brandi and season four; I felt like the behavior was just disgusting and rude, especially where Joyce was concerned. I'm glad LVP learned her lesson, even though she definitely has her flaws. I'm finding that I really appreciate LVP, Kyle, and Yolanda as mothers and enjoy the scenes of them with their children for the most part. I really like Yolanda (come for me, I can take it.)
I was floored when Brandi threw the glass of wine in Eileen's face and really admired and appreciated how gracefully Eileen handled the situation...like a mature adult woman. I had written like five paragraphs while watching season four (what a shit show!) and I never posted it. This season is definitely not as intense but I am watching the episode with the mixer where Kim decides to bring Brandi even though Kyle and Brandy have not resolved their issue...
I agree, and I think I saw it in someone else's post, that Brandy was just doing anything anything to stay relevant in the group at this point and really the only way she could do that was by being horrible all the time..? She looks so awkward and uncomfortable arriving at Kyle's mixer knowing that she shouldn't be there and wasn't invited. Kim seems intoxicated pretty consistently after E10 or so...
Her one friend who works in substance addiction seems to be providing her counseling more than friendship. I also noticed how her Black girlfriend was never back on the show after season four and told her that she was stupid for the comment she made to Joyce about being in the pool....
Brandi is just such a hot mess it's horrifying to watch her and I can't even imagine what it was like to participate with her on the show. I've seen pictures of her recently and I genuinely feel bad for her. I would love to work with her in a professional capacity (I'm a therapist), prior to seeing this show!, because there is so much happening there that seems like it has never been addressed. It's very sad and I feel for her children.

I thought it would be a fun idea to write out my headcanons for the other, unmentioned settlements/cities in the New California Republic. As a SoCal native, I thought it would also be fun seeing how some notable cities in the region would look in the fallout universe. I’ve only included places in Southern California because I honestly don’t have too much detailed knowledge about central/northern CA cities.
I tried fitting it in with the lore at the time of New Vegas in 2281, but there might be a few mistakes here and there.

San Diego Area

-Camp Pendleton: Controlled by one of the largest Raider groups of SoCal, cutting off entry to the San Diego area from the 5 Freeway. Uses restored Vertiberds, Power Armor, and APCs left over by the Marines after the war. Because of this, they are an extremely valuable target for the Brotherhood of Steel, though they have not launched a full-scale attack due to fears of high casualties. This, along with manpower shortages in the region due to the the situation in the Mojave, has prevented the NCR from conducting operations as well. Many in the San Diego area have discussed creating a temporary alliance between Settlers/NCR, the BOS, and the Temecula Super Mutants, though the feasibility of that seems a bit low.
-Escondido: Settlement located along the former 15 freeway and acts as a trade settlement on the way to San Diego. Population: 400. Facing raider attacks from nearby Camp Pendleton and feeling like they’ve been failed by the NCR, some local leaders have considered asking the Temecula Super Mutants to assist in a joint assault on the camp. Population: 500.
-San Diego: Though one of the founding states of the New California Republic, San Diego, now known as Dayglow, is severely underfunded and underdefended compared to other States. Some say this is because of its distance from the capital, others says its because of continued discriminiation towards Ghouls and Super Mutants who helped found the settlement. Despite this, it still operates as a thriving scrap hub and exports many of the materials used by NCR soldiers, vehicles, and machinery. Many smaller settlements still exist in areas farther from downtown, the most major of which include El Cajon, Chula Vista, and Miramar. The latter is the main NCR facility in the area, and has been requesting additional support from Shady Sands to help defeat the Camp Pendleton Raiders. Though having the threat of Raiders in the northwest as well as threats of increased radiation exposure from the Glow in the northeast, many of these settlements are some of the most advanced in the NCR due to the pre-war governance and technology maintained by the descendants of Vault 72. Located near Balboa Park, Vault 72 is the only known vault in the area. Though initially an experiment vault, like Vault 81 in the Commonwealth, its operations were cut short, in this case after a mutiny against the scientists and Overseer by the inhabitants, many of whom were Ex-military due to the Vault’s close distance to the San Diego Navy Yards. For the next century and a half, Vault 72 acted as a control vault. Eventually, its systems started to fail, and many of its inhabitants exited the vault in search of new settlements, bringing the technology and infrastructure found in the vaults with them. As the New California Republic expands, there have been rumors among NCR soldiers about restoring some of the abandoned Navy ships in the former San Diego harbor, though nothing has been completely confirmed. The Brotherhood of Steel also seeks to acquire former military technology in the area, but has been unable to do so.

Inland Empire

-Riverside: Home to “Rubidoux,” a mid-sized NCR town with a population of about 1,000. Located on the base of Mt. Rubidoux. The Mission Inn, located in the former downtown, is now utilized as an NCR armory and base. Possible plans to rebuild more of downtown have been discussed by local leaders, but not implemented. Vault 54 is located near Rubidoux on the base of Box Springs Mountain. It is a rare control vault with around 800 living citizens, and has been frequently trading with the nearby Rubidoux settlement since its opening in around 2245.
-San Bernardino: Took the most nuclear strikes out of all cities in SoCal’s Inland Empire during the Great War. Due to this, Feral Ghoul encounters are common in the area, though their population has been dwindling in recent years due to Rubidoux settlers and NCR forces slowly clearing up the area, mainly to help caravans from the area safely travel the 215 freeway to reach high desert settlements.
-Temecula: Reclaimed by former Master Super Mutants into a small settlement, population of 50. Do not mind caravans using the former 15 freeway that goes through the city to reach the San Diego area.
-Hemet: Thriving farm town. Decently isolated from the SoCal sprawl, Hemet is relatively sleepy and peaceful. Supplies a decent amount of crops to the IE region. Nothing really interesting about it besides that. Population: 300.

Desert Regions

-Idyllwild: Used as a training ground for NCR soldiers due to its isolation in the mountains.
-Palm Springs: Run by the remnants of the Agua-Caliente, Cabazon, and Morongo Native American Tribes. Due to its strategic prominence, being south of the Mojave and west of Arizona, as well as its proximity to the Idyllwild training grounds and routes to Shady Sands, it has become popular with many NCR higher-ups, many of whom own second homes in the town. Population: 1,000. Vault 93: Located in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains. Experimental vault studying the effects of celebrity influence. A dozen celebrities were selected among the 900 civilians who entered the vault, where factions aligning with each of them divided up the leadership inside. No holotapes have been found showing what happened next, though it is to assume that whatever played out led to Vault 93 being opened and vacated. Though considered by the NCR to be repurposed, it sits abandoned, now silently overlooking the Sonoran wastes.

Orange County

-Huntington Beach: Inhabited by the descendants of the Children of the Cathedral, who founded a settlement in what was Huntington Beach after the destruction of the Cathedral in Long Beach and the end of the Unity project in 2162. Though they tend to keep to themselves, there are still some devout Unity believers who kidnap caravans travelling along the former 405 freeway in order to adopt them into the cult and keep the population afloat (They don’t have any FEV to make Super Mutants). Population: 100.
-Irvine: Largely an NCR base centered around the former John Wayne Airport, though there are a decent amount of civilians who have set up shop to cater to the large soldier population. The 452nd Battalion is stationed at the airport, though their numbers have dwindled due to transfers to the Mojave. This has made them unable to respond to the Camp Pendleton Raiders. Population (including soldiers): 2,000.
-San Clemente: A “Ghoul only” settlement ran by wealthy pre-war Ghouls who maintain the area. Despite the exclusivity, it has maintained a population of over 1,000 mainly by bringing in other Ghouls from Orange County and the surrounding area. Mainly keeps to themselves though they accept caravans for trade, though less have been showing up due to the threat of the Camp Pendelton Raiders.
