2024.05.15 13:22 Strong-Sink-1613 is it possible to an impacted wisdom tooth to still come out normally?

Title edit: is it possible FOR** (sorry)
Let me explain myself. My wisdom tooth bottom left(#17) is stuck and hasn't fully erupted so the oral surgeon told me in March to get it out, but lately I've noticed it's kind of coming out a little more. I had #19(bad root canal from years ago) removed in March and that specific wisdom tooth has been hurting but it kind of looks like it's coming out a bit more. I'm going to go get an updated x-ray soon but I'm curious if it's possible it could come out now since #19 is out of the picture.
Latest x-ray is from January: https://ibb.co/KXxtbTv
Thank you

2024.05.15 13:03 Decent-Arugula-5762 Should there be a follow up after root canal?

I went in for a dental exam and they found a huge abscess. I had no pain or knowledge I had it. I was given antibiotics which didn’t remove the infection.
That tooth already had a crown on it because it was cracked but no root canal was done when it was placed back in 2018.
I saw an endodontist who ended up removing the crown.
The crown was placed back 5 days later with a hole on it. (She first made a hole but ended up removing the crown) it was covered when it was placed back.
After the procedure and during the placement of the crown no X-rays were done to check if the infection had cleared. Is this normal?
I never had pain but apparently it was a pretty big infection. Shouldn’t they check to see if the infection cleared? This happened around a month ago.

2024.05.15 10:34 pearldental12 Risks or side effects associated with root canal treatment

Root canal treatment is generally safe and effective, but like any medical procedure, it carries some risks and potential side effects. Here are the main ones to consider:

Immediate Risks and Side Effects

  1. Pain and Discomfort: It's common to experience some pain or discomfort after the procedure, usually manageable with over-the-counter pain medications. Severe pain is rare but should be reported to your dentist.
  2. Swelling and Tenderness: The area around the treated tooth might be swollen and tender for a few days. This can typically be alleviated with anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen.
  3. Infection: Although root canals are performed to eliminate infection, there's a small risk of a new infection developing if bacteria re-enter the tooth. This might occur if the filling or crown is delayed or not placed correctly.
  4. Allergic Reaction: Some patients might have an allergic reaction to the materials used during the procedure, such as the latex in rubber dams or certain medications.
  5. Temporary Numbness: Local anesthesia used during the procedure can cause temporary numbness, which usually wears off within a few hours.

Long-term Risks and Complications

  1. Tooth Fracture: A treated tooth can become more brittle and prone to fracture, especially if it doesn't receive a proper restoration like a crown.
  2. Incomplete Cleaning: In some cases, especially with complex root structures, the dentist might not be able to fully clean the infected area, leading to persistent infection and possibly requiring retreatment.
  3. Persistent Pain: Rarely, patients may experience persistent pain or discomfort after the procedure, which could be due to missed canals, microfractures, or other issues.
  4. Nerve Damage: There's a very small risk of nerve damage, especially in lower teeth where the roots are close to major nerves. This can lead to numbness or tingling in the lips, gums, or tongue.
  5. Discoloration: A tooth that has undergone a root canal may discolor over time. This cosmetic issue can usually be addressed with internal bleaching or a crown.

Preventive Measures

When to Seek Help

Contact your dentist immediately if you experience any of the following after a root canal:
By understanding these risks and working closely with your dentist, you can mitigate potential complications and ensure a successful outcome for your root canal treatment.

2024.05.15 09:29 Various_Diamond5933 I (23F) worked in an unsanitary dental office for 3 years and had no idea how bad it truly was, advice on what to do..

I 23(F) worked for an 80(M) Dentist for about 3 years, and what I observed and endured as an employee during that time traumatized me and made me quit dental assisting in general, not because I didn't like it but because I loved it just not the dentist and I'm going to just break it down the best I can.
Starting off this specific dentist is really well known in my city, he has been practicing for 50 years now. However not much has changed in that 50 years. His office is so old that patients will come in from 1989 and say how not a single thing has been updated or changed. The floor is carpeted with rotting wood underneath and he just doesn't care. He has like creepy dolls all around the office and creepy clowns. I almost feel like he won't change anything because he wants to still feel like he's in his prime like it's the 80's/90's still.
He denies the fact that he's getting older, he says he is 44 years old when physically and literally he is not. So maybe this is some type of symptoms of a disorder. This is just some background so you can understand the full picture.
So he only hires women of lighter complexions, also certain body size, small not to skinny but curvy but not too big. You have to have long blown out hair that's always fixed, his old rule used to be that you could not wear your hair up bc it's not appealing to him. Also you can't wear glasses for the same reason. If you were trying to get a girl to work there he would have to see a picture of her first and she couldn't have tattoos or "bad teeth" even though he would put braces on staff members for free and I witnessed that, if it was "too much" the person would be a no for him. Even having a simple nose ring was against his rules.
I started working for him when I was 19 turning 20. So I was pretty young and didn't really realize until later that all of this was just so toxic and it gets worse. And so when I found out my pregnancy was healthy I announced it and they decided to not train me on patients for pretty much my entire pregnancy because they thought i would just have my baby and leave
After being post partum and working while also being a first time mom to a baby, I begin to lose a lot of weight because I guess I was stressed. I went from being my normal weight 135 to 116 pounds.
The doctor would comment on my body and say things about my weight loss in front of patients. It made me very insecure and uncomfortable two things I have never felt in my life at a job. I started to have body dysmorphia from working for this man. When he looked at me it felt as if he was staring through me and picking me apart. And no one should I have to feel like that in the work place.
I fell into a deep depression because feeling like I can't go find a new job because as terrible as it sounds, I was attached to the toxic abuse cycle there. He would love bomb and compliment you so heavily that you almost felt bad for thinking of leaving cuz he was so old. He would say things like how much he loved your personality, you were the best employee, best with patients. It was definitely creepy. Also I felt as if I were to try to leave he would be upset or it felt like I was breaking a trusted bond. So I continued working and things...got worse
Enough about my personal experience but now for the patients. The doctor treated each patient nothing more than a dollar sign. Unless they were a known person in the community, a family friend, he would give them treatment but if they had questions or concerns about their teeth he would be very dismissive, and if they argued back he would pretty much belittle them and make them feel like they were stupid for asking a question. Saying what they wanted was "impossible" because that's "the way their teeth were". I watched him take braces off of patients and their teeth were still not aligned properly, I watched him accidentally set a patient on fire, I watched him give a girl bone loss, she lost her tooth because of something he did incorrectly.
Not to mention his entire staff has not been to any type of dental school, every single person hired basically with no experience. I was told because he couldn't "afford it", yet the man has multiple million dollar homes and luxury cars....
To even scam us further he sent us to take a super lax unsupervised "test" that he said would make us certified assistants. Came to find out that was nothing more than a piece of paper.
Not to mention probably more things he has done, like practicing half blind, also urinating on himself daily and it being reported and nothing done about it.The sterilization was absolutely horrifying. Their method is not to use an autoclave but to throw all dirty instruments in a basket and throw them in an old machine that had sterilization and water and put them through an oven baking them.
Also cold sterile which was not monitored properly, and did not soak for 24 hours. Sometimes 5-10 minutes. I just got so tired of not only him being misogynistic, but not caring for health and safety of patients, or even staff members.
And the rest of the current staff members, my heart does hurt for them for them to be in this kind of abusive cycle for so long and not want to remove themselves and realize they deserve better. This kind of environment should not be normalized. And I've watch him say god awful things about every single one of them behind their back and it's honestly sad. Why would you stand by this especially for the incredibly low amounts of pay.
Making yourself look weak to him while he sits back and laughs. It's really sad and I pray for them. And I'm telling the truth and stand by it on everything I say. No I did not get fired, I quit the job. Because I couldn't take the negativity any longer. But the more I think about it the more it angers me for people that give their money to this man.
Im currently enrolled in the Dental Hygiene program at a college. I'm really excited to become a an RDH but the thing is I'm scared working for him and just cold quitting will ruin my career. Also My question is should I report him to OSHA?

History of Bird Nests in Singapore

The use of bird nests in culinary practices dates back centuries, with its origins rooted deeply in traditional Chinese medicine. Initially, bird nests were consumed for their supposed health benefits, believed to improve skin complexion, boost the immune system, and enhance overall vitality.
In Singapore, bird nests became popular through the influence of Chinese immigrants who brought their culinary traditions with them. Over time, the consumption of bird nests evolved from a medicinal practice to a gourmet delicacy, enjoyed in various forms, from soups to desserts.

Types of Bird Nests

Bird nests are categorized into three main types: white, red, and yellow.

White Bird Nests

White bird nests are the most common and are highly valued for their purity and delicate flavor. They are typically harvested from swiftlet's nests found in caves and man-made structures.

Red Bird Nests

Redbird nests, also known as blood nests, are rarer and more expensive. Their distinctive color is believed to result from the oxidation of minerals absorbed during the nesting period.

Yellow Bird Nests

Yellowbird nests fall between white and red in terms of rarity and price. They have a unique color and texture, making them a popular choice for gourmet dishes.

Health Benefits of Bird Nest

Bird nests are highly nutritious, offering a wealth of health benefits. They are rich in proteins, amino acids, and essential minerals, which contribute to overall well-being.

Boosts Immunity

The high protein content in bird nests helps strengthen the immune system, making it more effective in fighting off infections.

Enhances Skin Health

Bird nests are often used in beauty treatments due to their collagen content, which is known to improve skin elasticity and reduce signs of aging.

Supports Respiratory Health

Regular consumption of bird nests can help alleviate respiratory issues, such as chronic coughs and asthma, by soothing the respiratory tract.

How Bird Nests are Harvested

Harvesting bird nests is a meticulous process that requires both skill and ethical practices to ensure sustainability. Swiftlets build their nests using saliva, which hardens into a gel-like structure. Harvesters carefully collect these nests without disturbing the birds or their habitat.
Ethical harvesting practices are crucial to maintaining the swiftlet population and ensuring the long-term availability of bird nests. In Singapore, many suppliers adhere to strict guidelines to promote sustainability and animal welfare.

Traditional vs. Modern Bird Nests

The production and consumption of bird nests have evolved significantly over the years. Traditional methods involved harvesting nests from natural caves, a practice that was often dangerous and labor-intensive.
Modern methods have introduced the use of swiftlet houses, where birds can nest in a controlled and safe environment. This shift has not only increased the supply of bird nests but also improved the quality and safety of the product.

Buying Guide for Bird Nests

Selecting high-quality bird nests can be challenging, especially for first-time buyers. Here are some tips to help you make the right choice:

Check the Color

High-quality bird nests should have a consistent color, whether white, red, or yellow. Avoid nests with dark spots or uneven coloration.

Examine the Texture

The texture of bird nests should be smooth and firm. Nests that are brittle or have a rough texture may indicate poor quality.

Smell the Nest

A good bird nest should have a light, natural aroma. A strong, unpleasant smell could be a sign of contamination or poor processing.

How to Prepare Bird Nest at Home

Preparing bird nest at home can be a rewarding experience. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get started:

Soak the Bird Nest

Soak the bird nest in cold water for several hours, or overnight, until it softens and expands.

Clean the Bird Nest

Gently rinse the soaked bird nest under running water to remove any impurities or feathers.

Cook the Bird Nest

Place the cleaned bird nest in a pot with water and simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes to an hour. Add rock sugar or other ingredients to taste.

Bird Nest for Beauty

Bird nests are not only consumed for their health benefits but also for their beauty-enhancing properties. They are rich in collagen and other nutrients that promote healthy skin and hair.

Skin Care

Bird nest extracts are often used in skincare products to improve skin elasticity and hydration.

Hair Care

The nutrients in bird nests can strengthen hair follicles and promote healthy, shiny hair.

2024.05.15 09:05 hannah0banana terrible tooth pain, need advice

this is kind of a long story, but I’m going to try to make it as quick and simple as I can. about 7 or so years ago, I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed because they were growing in sideways. fast forward a few years to 2020 when I was seeing a new dentist. the last molar on the top left had been so pushed and twisted by the way my wisdom teeth grew in, that it was almost impossible to reach while brushing my teeth, and it wasn’t even really a functional tooth anymore. they recommended that I have it extracted and were going to keep an eye on the other back teeth. so I had it pulled, everything was fine. after that, I really neglected going to the dentist. I moved to a new state, and just never bothered finding one near me (terrible, I know). now, at the beginning of this year, I started having some tooth pain on the lower right side of my mouth. I finally went to see a dentist, and I was expecting the worse: both because I hadn’t been in so long, but also because dental problems runs in my family. it turns out I had 4 cavities on the right side (the back 2 molars on the top and bottom) and gingivitis. they did a deep cleaning and prescribed me toothpaste and mouthwash for the gingivitis. I decided to have the last tooth on the bottom right extracted, because that had the same problem where it was impossible to reach during brushing and wasn’t a functional tooth. the other cavities were going to be filled after the extraction. I originally made an appointment with an oral surgeon a couple weeks out, but pretty quickly, the pain became so unbearable that I couldn’t take it anymore and had to schedule an emergency appointment. it was weird, because it seems like the pain got so much worse after the dentist appointment. anyway, the tooth was pulled at the end of march. everything healed fine. I go back to the dentist soon after, and the dentist tells me I need a gingivectomy on the top few right teeth. I got that done, and it was fine. I didn’t really have any pain. about a month ago, I had the remaining 3 cavities filled. my mouth had been sore afterward, so I’ve been taking ibuprofen for it. well, the last week or so, the pain has gotten a lot worse. while looking in my mouth, I found a bone spur on the bottom right. the oral surgeon is having me come in this week because they want to check it out. the last few nights, it’s been hard to sleep because the pain has been excruciating. taking a combo of ibuprofen and tylenols helps, but obviously that’s not a long term solution. like I said, I am seeing the oral surgeon this week and I have an an appointment with the normal dentist just to follow up. I plan on bringing this up at my appointment, but i wanted to get some advice from others. I’m really nervous about the pain and the fact that it got significantly worse after going to the dentist. it makes me wish that I hadn’t gone at all, because the mild tooth pain i was experiencing before was at least bearable. sorry for the super long post, but i’m looking for any advice on what to do

2024.05.15 08:30 creepypond My mother wants to meet over memorial weekend, she wants me to fly out a day to visit before I’m getting married.

This is a long read sorry!
Hi, I (22F) literally just joined, I have been on reddit for a while now, I post here or there but I really need the grace that only reddit seems to have, kisses but you know it's true. So, I guess, I am screaming into the void, because the truth is I am so gutturally confused.
Like the title says- I have always fantasized of being a flower child, a changeling, of turning towards the corner of the yard, the woods beckoning me to run away, the gentleness of which the coyotes would pick my bones clean. My childhood felt like a house fire only I could see.
My father's nightcap of whiskey got less and less watered down as nights were uncomfortable to spend on the family room couch. The one that he fiercely protects, once threatening my friend who mistakenly lounged in his spot. My mother's love felt scarce, a luxury only my younger sister could afford. Between that and her ambition to become the first nurse and college graduate of both families, I was more of my father's daughter. My younger sister and I were doll-like children, meek and polite to the price of our own dignity and self. To give a brief snapshot of what it was like being raised by them \~ even though "I'm remembering it all wrong, or not at all" I will try to go in chronological order, but you can quickly see most of these were not isolated incidents and I jump around:
-daily spankings because of crying during daycare drop off (fair technique)
-tricking us out of the "broken" car, in the rain on a dirt road "get gas" and proceeded to speed past us laughing as we ran after his taillights in the mud, we were in another country, on a solo trip with just our dad, we were both elementary school age.
-In elementary school and 6th grade I lived in a sweatshirt because when I hit puberty. I pleaded to my mother how hard it was to hear my father's constant comments about my womanhood and new body. He started to compare me to a hooker around this time, calling me a slut for trying to wear what my friends wore to school- leggings, shorts shorter than the knee but not offensively short I promise, though I strongly feel as clothing does not mean consent.
-For as long as I can remember, he would take pictures of us when we looked embarrassed then show it to family, friends, whoever in conversation in front of us then scold us when we inevitably felt bad or asked him to stop. He would also promise to delete the photo but would continue the previously mentioned above.
-So far, I have just been harping on my father, but the truth is they are a match made in hell, and though I feel like my mother is a victim in her own way. It was very hard to exist without their constant horrible comments about my appearance and character. They both shamed skinny children to be thinner, critiqued my body through puberty, and felt entitled to touch my body when and how they wanted. Examples include my father's frequent ass grabbing, and then allowing his adult male friend to do the same.
-They both would ridicule me for working minimum wage jobs in high school, while my father funnels out of my sister and I's joint accounts, only when we confront him does he fess that he required the money we earned for ourselves for the "mortgage". He continues as well as set monetary account goals, right before trips or plans, he would always be surprised that we had managed to scrape together enough money. He expects me to find a place that will fire and schedule me on a winter vacation, or to amount 5k in less than 3 months, while paying for my own necessities, thank you for teaching me to live on frugality as a means of survival.
-The name calling I touched on, but I would be the first to come home from school, my father would take his lunch to come home and berate me verbally of how much of a loser I am and will continue to be. The verbal arguments were daily, I fully admit to yelling back but in truth I couldn't leave his spewing red face hurling threats, I had to stay glued in place until he had his fill.
-Another solo trip with my father and sister, my mother had cleaned my room while we were away and had found my treasures- vapes, two beers. I got pulled out of the running shower to be beaten on and off through the night whenever my father took a break from tv, my sister sob in the room with my father to stop and I sat on the couch until morning. We had a tourist excursion the next day and I got it again before we left because I was not to "ruining the rest of his vacation with my bad attitude"
-They locked away my childhood cat, sick with cancer, to die alone in the basement so she would ruin their floors with her incontinence. When she passed, they did not tell me, they buried her in the woods behind our house, I wish I could lay beside her, I'm sorry little one.
-My father would come home and yell at me for not having dinner ready for him, because when my mother worked late or was not home, the next one responsible for dinner was my younger sister or me.
-He physically corners us or refuses to let us leave. Threatened my life when I tried to leave the house during an argument.
-Put his hand through the door a couple of times because I “gave attitude” by responding with ok. Readers, please note I am capable of attitude, but this was not the case, I was scared, and I just wanted to give him whatever answer he wanted
-I'm a summer birthday, so for my big 21st I had my cousin, bf and sister have a pool party in my parents' pool. No one told me the plan all day. I was told to just relax by everyone, because normally I would be running around serving people or helping my parents. No one told me anything, so we played some games in the yard, had some wine coolers and then swam. My father flies outside and starts yelling at me from the side of the pool to get my ass out and blow out my candles because he needs to drive my cousin 20 minutes home each way. So, I blew out my candles, soaking wet staring daggers because my father has always managed to underplay or make me feel bad on my birthday too? Another grievance from my 21st birthday is that my father grilled frozen steaks, and I truly do not want to seem like a stuck-up princess, but he proceeded to buy 300$ of food from my favorite restaurant and his favorite food is steak not mine. Note his birthday is the next day following mine.
I may post in regard to the tribulation that was my childhood in this thread again, but it takes a lot out of me, and I have already had myself a day sorry. Now you're all caught up and I just want you to know-
I have long ruminated over my own words and actions; though I have many regrets I do not feel ashamed of my choices or who I am because I try to treat everyone with kindness and most importantly respectability. I know the lengths my immigrant parents have gone through to build themselves a life. I know the struggles my father had with his father, the alcoholic who raised him with cruelty reserved for not even a barn animal. I know that my mother lived in the shadows as a neglected middle child hoping to find someone who realized all her good in the way her parents did not. I can see and understand that I carry the same wounds, and now it is within my responsibility to be better.
So, my relationship with my parents is strained right now. I have been in low contact with my mother and father for nearly four years, with periods of better contact. We have tried therapy, though it's difficult as my mother uses this as an opportunity to explore her wounds rather than our history or relationship. Though the therapist was helpful in directing the conversation back, I believe that the work can only happen with the person wanting to actually work on themselves, so I feel like I am at a frustrating impasse.
Every time I feel like I can take out a brick between the wall I keep between us, my mother will say something that makes me build another layer. I try not to be sensitive, yet I know my mother likes to cut with her words, though she claims otherwise. In a recent conversation my mother admitted that my father and she spent a great effort in making sure my beauty did not go to my head and did this in order to keep me humble.
For context, my mother’s side of the family does not like my father, and this along with other childhood issues festering into adulthood drove a wedge between my mother and her younger brother. His recent divorce and my mother’s empty nest have given them much time and space to rekindle their sibling relationship. So on our already strained phone calls she hits me with these metaphors of her brother and her relationship to ours. Am I off for thinking that those are two very different relationships, yet both have.. Jealousy? Furthermore, I feel a looney because I am fighting to keep them in my life, and they are fighting to be right.? To be absolved of the guilt and shame that maybe they did do the wrong thing.?
What gives them the right? When we all have to lay away at night with our guilt you want me to hold yours? I want a mother and they want a guiltless soul
Truthfully, I do not know what kind of future lies ahead for us. I think I grieve having bullies instead of parents, of what I missed out on and who I could have been. Like I said I am low contact right now, but after a normal phone call talking about the weather and our pets today, I had an anxiety attack to the point I fought to stay conscious. This has not been the first time I have fainted due to anxiety, mostly surrounding situations that remind me of them or things they punished or did to me in the past. The day after I wished my father a happy birthday after a year of no contact, I got two pills of ativan to the face after a ER visit in which they thought my poor bf was trafficking me. Though this is maybe too much, I am always sweating, my sides literally pour, my hands shake, and I can string together a sentence if I try. I feel like a different person, a moist, meek person.. which is not me, I self tattoo and pierce, I can and have tackled an attacking dog and I have punched touchy men square in the nose. I’m tough because I fought tooth and nail to be kind and gentle, we rescued cats and recently a possum, and we let out spiders and bugs, so our cats don’t terrorize them.
Here’s the thing… we’re getting married!
We’re tying the knot in the woods at the end of May, but I feel like an asshole because I have not told my parents. They know we’re engaged.
My mother, in a recent phone call, told me of this travel nurse that she had gotten close to, that was getting married soon, and invited my mother to go dress shopping with her. My mother told me how sad this girl felt that her family was all the way across the country, coincidently much like we are. This felt like she was guilting me, but she went so far as to send me a picture of a couple, I didn’t verify who it actually was.
Another issue is I am dealing with the guilt of getting a ring and bands elsewhere. My father is a high-end jeweler whose work has been showcased by celebs, my whole life I heard that my father was going to design and make my engagement ring. After long consideration, we picked out a ring from Madrid that felt more like me. When I look at my wedding rings I want to think of my husband not my father. I am more than happy with anything else, rings for other occasions, but it makes my skin crawl and my stomach curling because part of me feels as if it's more of a collar than a ring then.
My mother wants to meet over memorial weekend, she wants me to fly out a day to visit before I’m getting married.
I do not know if I should facetime them and break the news before, after or invite them. It’s already last minute so airfare will be expensive, but I know they are going to be so heartbroken. Part of me does not want them there either because I have felt alone my whole life, I figured I would do my wedding the same way, though it's hard because my fiancé's family will be there, and I will have no one. I wish I could hire a friend... lol typed that with a tear in my eye that's ironic.
Suggestions please

2024.05.15 08:27 Independent-Mix5891 Decision to take ms in cs or stay in job here in India.

Hi guys, Firstly thank you in advance for your valuable time & advices.
Background : no assets at all nor father is working now as he recently got treated with by pass surgery and the vein from which leg took was infected and due to that since past 6 months every day going through dressing. Again few days back my father faced some swelling in one hand which doctor said that it was due to medicines and said to need to be treated with a injection. I also have my older sister lucky to have her but my parents want to do her marriage asap as she got aged.
I am loving a girl since my undergrad before judging it love or not. I feel loyalty matters. So I just want to stay there because all the time I really feel privileged to have such kind of love My bad luck as always. After one year into this her father died and her mother found out about us.
I want to purse ca just I know that they paid well but due to financial issues unable to and joined engineering out of nowhere. Selected ece as people said that you can choose hardware or software. So I did not have knowledge about it. During my engineering tenure I collected more backlogs nevertheless to set things right. I cleared all and became first one from dept to get oncampus job. The prof of dumbness I have is that I don't know about IIT nit until my campus recruitment training after 6th semester but I saw lot of posters and ads about them but never have info about them.
I did not join my campus job as her parents need assets which I don't have one. I thought I need to join some product based company for higher package and also I feel like I love doing coding but after 2 months of graduation my father came to me and said to earn some as due to covid he is not getting any work. So I selected mnc over mindtree just because it has lower bond period but as soon as I joined in rush to make money tried digital exam failed twice which wasted 1 year but next 6 months I cleared it but they took 5 months to release ther score. So 2 years completed like this I realised and don't know what to do. Upon observing my colleagues pursuing ms I thought it might have give me better chance to make her parents accept me. So I started preparing in a way to graduate as soon as possible earliest I can join is spring 2024 intake. In this application process my father got hospitalised as I want to leave job I did not added my parents for health insurance. So all the saving vanished anyway I got rejections from all colleges I applied due to I applied late and also have backlogs. I even applied to some top 300 univs for ms in cs because I really want to challenge my self and to prove myself that I do have more caliber. Then after that tried for summer intake but then realised that no colleges were there in summer hence again applied lately to fall 2024 again same story rejected from which I want to pursue like suny buffalo, unv of Georgia & unv of south florida.
Recently, I got admission to University of albama at birmingham for ms in CS which costs me around just 46 lakhs for tution fee itself cuz they gave me extra course and extra tution fee ( integrated masters program. Not exactly direct ms in cs admit ). With expenses it might go upto 60 lakhs I think and they gave me one time scholarship of 1.5k.I need to pay deposit of 2000$ around 1.70 lakhs which I don't have so I need to take loan to pay this and also to pay processing fee to get loan sanction letter. I think I need to take for visa slot, travelling ticket fee etc..
So this is it guys I don't know what to do really. Since graduating in rush to ear some assets did not think clearly and did not take any good decision. I don't have anyone to give them clear picture to take informed decision I know most of them will say to stay here. Anyway now
Pros of ms in cs : 1. I will learn computer science which I think I like but not sure. 2. If I get job I think it will atleast give me some chance to have conv with her single parent mother.
Cons : 1. Huge loan and don't have anything to back it up. As my father health not totally good. I can't help him for 2 yrs I think financially. 2. Need to learn like someone preparing for upsc because I thought this is only thing that differentiate me from other who are knowing pursing and doing part time parllely.
Stay in India
Pro : 1.Atleast I can financially help my family though my sister supports now but my parents want to get her married but there is so many complications here too. 2. I don't have that huge loan burden
Cons : 1. I need to get into 24 Lakhs package. at least to stand in front of her mother to ask her to consider in a 6 months or so but market is so shit. 2. I won't get chance again to learn something and that college life
Dont know what to do literally even while I am pursuingy ms I don't have guarantee that her parent will wait until my graduation. Unable to take any decision feeling like lost and not able to do anythin except routine tasks. Wasting every night and day sleep. As I am from witch I don't have experience except on AWS and lost all my knowledge on proframming languages too and don't have much knowledge on DSA too.
Please be kind.

2024.05.15 08:02 pearldental12 How does a root canal treatment benefit me?

A root canal treatment provides several significant benefits, particularly for preserving your oral health and overall well-being. Here are the main advantages:

1. Pain Relief

The primary reason for needing a root canal is to address an infected or inflamed pulp inside the tooth, which can cause severe pain. A root canal removes the infected tissue, alleviating the pain effectively.

2. Saving the Natural Tooth

A root canal allows you to keep your natural tooth, which is preferable to extraction. Keeping your natural tooth helps maintain proper chewing function, preserves the natural appearance of your smile, and prevents other teeth from shifting out of alignment.

3. Preventing the Spread of Infection

By removing the infected pulp and sealing the tooth, a root canal prevents the spread of infection to neighboring teeth and the jawbone. This helps maintain overall oral health and prevents more severe health issues.

4. Improving Oral and General Health

Infections in the tooth can lead to more serious health problems if left untreated, such as abscesses, bone loss, and the spread of infection to other parts of the body. Root canal treatment mitigates these risks.

5. Efficient Chewing and Normal Bite Force

After a root canal and subsequent restoration (such as a crown), your treated tooth will function like any other tooth. This means you can chew food efficiently and maintain normal bite force and sensation.

6. Protecting Adjacent Teeth

Keeping your natural tooth helps protect adjacent teeth from excessive wear or strain that could occur if the infected tooth were extracted and not replaced. It also helps maintain the alignment of surrounding teeth.

7. Cost-Effective in the Long Run

While root canals can be costly upfront, they are often more economical in the long run compared to tooth extraction followed by a dental implant or bridge. Saving the natural tooth avoids the need for more complex and expensive restorative procedures.

8. Preserving Jawbone Health

Extracting a tooth can lead to bone loss in the jaw over time, which can affect the structure of your face and smile. A root canal helps preserve the integrity of the jawbone by retaining the natural tooth root.

Summary

Root canal treatment benefits you by relieving pain, saving your natural tooth, preventing the spread of infection, improving both oral and overall health, ensuring efficient chewing and normal bite force, protecting adjacent teeth, being cost-effective in the long term, and preserving jawbone health. By choosing root canal treatment, you make a decision that supports long-term dental and general health.

2024.05.15 07:56 chopinbloc Sore nose on reactive girl

Sore nose on reactive girl
Good day all,
Looking for a tad of medical advice and wondering if I should take her the vets yet.
As picture shows, our April, a rescue boxador, about 8-9 years old, has a little rough patch on her nose. We recently went on a lovely jaunt to the Lake District and let her have a ball running around and exploring the Cumbria countryside. We do, however, keep her muzzled in new environments as she is quite reactive (alot of exhausting training has improved her behaviour vastly) round other dogs. She has snapped (not made contact) with a couple of canine comrades in the past so in an attempt to be the most responsible dog owners we make sure she can't get at anyone out and about. We know the muzzle annoys her, especially in an exiting new environment as mid play she'll drop to the ground and rub her face in attempt (presumably) to get it off but now it looks like it's caused abit of soreness.
Has anyone had similar? Will this just heal over time? It doesn't look too infected or anything and she going about her life as normal and doesn't seem to be irritated or the likes. But you can clearly see the abrasion. Should any medical treatment be sought after immediately do you think?
Thanks in advance,
A slightly concerned dog dad

Rescued Pit has Heartworm, Donations Appreciated
Hey everyone, I recently adopted a dog who was found on I-30 in Dallas by a kind Redditor and posted on Reddit for adoption. (Here is his adoption post by the person who rescued him from the highway.) I had never considered owning a pitbull before, but after meeting Lucky and getting to know him over the past couple months, I'm so glad he's part of our lives now. Lucky is a total sweetheart who loves nothing more than being doted on, and we love him already. Unfortunately, we found out that he had more health issues than initially apparent to my untrained eye, including heartworm, mange, and infections of the ears and private area. The costs for his care have mounted to more than I anticipated and I could use some help. I'm loath to ask, but I'm putting aside my pride for his sake. If any of y'all would be able and willing to contribute to his care, it would mean the world to us.
Link to the Gofundme campaign will be in the comments. I didn't realize I could only post one picture here, but there are more pictures in this crosspost and on his campaign page. Thank you!

2024.05.15 06:17 HalfAndHafnium First time getting Covid, sick & testing + for almost 3 weeks. Now more committed than ever to precautions.

Howdy fellow CC community, I'm new to posting here. I'm a scientist who still takes Covid precautions. Most obvious to friends, family, and colleagues are my ever-present Aura masks. I also haven't eaten in a restaurant since early 2020. When I have to go to a work dinner, I hang out in a mask and take the food to go.
For background, my main motivation to avoid Covid has been concern around Long Covid, especially given the fact that I already deal with long-haul tickborne infections. I'm not looking to collect chronic illnesses like Pokemon.
I was motivated to post this partly because of the dismay around the recent unmasked scientists pictures. I'm neither a celebrity scientist nor a medical doctor, but I am one more person with scientific training who is absolutely not going to take my mask off. And now I have even more reason to say that...
Obviously, based on my post title, in spite of my precautions, I got Covid (thanks to non-optional work travel). Having now been quite sick for almost 3 weeks, in spite of taking both Pax and metformin, I just wanted to say that I would continue to mask and take other precautions indefinitely *even if LC were not a concern* (to be clear, it is). This is the sickest I have ever been from a virus in terms of a composite of duration & severity. My body is obviously having a very tough time clearing SARS2 and it's not surprising to me at all that there may be long-term viral reservoirs that cause ongoing damage. Not a cold, not the flu.
tl;dr Avoiding LC has been my main motivation for being CC, but now that I've experienced acute Covid, avoiding the *acute phase alone* completely justifies CC behavior in my view. With both considerations together, being CC is a no-brainer.

2024.05.15 06:10 viagrawithlegs Finally, finally I’m better ? and it was not what anyone thought

TLDR; After trying EVERYTHING I reduced stimulants to promote rest and digest and reduced sugar to limit bacterial infections Would like honorary phd for this ten year $100k research project “Fine” now 🥹 ?
Full story: I have had eczema since 8 months old. Cats and dust allergy and sweat/heat induced. It was no biggie. An antihistamine and the occasional topical OTC steroid cream - easy peasy.
Fast forward, I’m 24. I started getting really hot and red in my face. Can’t tolerate heat at all. My eczema was flaring non stop like crazy. Had it in places I never had before, eye lids, neck. Couldn’t sleep I was so itchy. Had restless leg wtf could only sleep every second day
Saved up for an allergist and started doing desensitisation treatments, bactroban in the nose, and the nurse secretly told me I could take up to 6 antihistamine pd and switch between a few brands
My skin got so bad the doctor wouldn’t let me have the injections anymore Doctor offered me lyrica and prednisone. I was so far gone the prednisone did NOTHING . They literally told me “I can’t help you anymore please don’t come back”
My skin was now flaking bad, like I was turning into sand. Scratch , weep, scab, flake, repeat. Folliculitis all over my legs. I was itchy every waking hour. I slept in a bathtub for 6 weeks getting 1 hour sleep while working full time wearing cream and barrier cream under full body bandages. Found out about TSW and related
Ended up in hospital with a golf ball sized boil in my eyebrow. IV antibiotics cleared up the infection but still itchy. Was told it was the type of antibiotic they don’t give out unless you’re about to die .
Finally saved up and waited 3 months to see a dermatologist. She said option 1. Cancer drugs (assuming an immunosuppressant?) 2. Light therapy
I chose 2. Not sure what it did but I got a nice tan I also tried EVERYTHING short of sacrificing small animals and children during an eclipse . Spent $$$$ laser hair removal, chiro, naturopath , special elixirs, creamssss , dottera, hcl tablet, bleach then peroxide baths, condys crystals, iron, avene, acupuncture, fungicide, silk sheets, plain tooth paste, shower water filter , digestive enzymes, magnesium, tar, charcoal poultice, drink clay powder, activated grains, keffir , blood type diet, psychology, relaxation , Chinese herbs, vitamins, shaman ritual with eagle feather (not joking). Taking showers scared me because of the excruciating pain of open wounds everywhere. Tried swimming in the ocean. Felt like being set of fire but I was wrong. Had a bath with a bit of tea tree oil. Ah, NOW I know what it feels like to be set on fire (creepily got itching relief from the pain Ala black mirror).
Nothing working So I quit literally everything I ate except 30 INGREDIENTS (1 water, 2 salt , etc) on the combined advice of three eczema books Eczema slowly improving Reduced it further to having nothing but one fruit smoothie per day for SIX MONTHS “because fruit is healthy” (and eating one celery stick was too depressing ). Somehow lost no weight . Was getting better but still red and hands still looked like dinosaur skin. I
An energy healer told me it was fruit. lol. Stopped eating the smoothies and skin was better in 1 week. Redness/heat tolerance didn’t improve. Still have restless leg
Flakes and infections came back every year. Back in hospital with another golf ball boil when I’m 30. Goes away Flares again a year later
Had emotional crisis and got Valium from doctor . Magically healed! Stop Valium (not a fan) Heat intolerance recurs. Frequent flare up Try medical cannabis . Fine for a while then I adapted again like the Borg
This year (I’m 34, with 1 year of a biomed degree under my belt) I hear about anticholinergic syndrome and relate. I quit drinking tea and coffee (rip ☠️ switched to chicory root) or taking antihistamines.
Redness going away Heat tolerance improving Eczema disappeared Been healthy??? for 6 weeks Wish me luck 🍀
Sorry this post is so long , tried to condense a 10 year journey of misery as short as possible. hope this helps someone

2024.05.15 06:08 jc_time Extraction Site Healing Normally?

Extraction Site Healing Normally?
Hi, I just had my wisdom teeth removed 5 days ago, and I’m worried if my extraction sites are healing properly. I’m also worried if there might be a possibility of dry socket. Because on day two when I did my salt water rinse, I’m pretty sure my blood clots came out during (I didn’t swish hard nor spit, just let things fall and plop, suspicious looking things that resemble blood clots came out.) I’ve been combating with 600mg of prescription ibuprofen since day 4, lost my sense of taste/smell since day 2-4 (as you can see my tongue was brutally wounded lol from my surgery- not to mention I have one hell of a lisp), also sneezed (A LOT) day 2-3 (pretty sure my upper left was impacting my sinus)
My diet has consisted of mostly liquids, and soft foods- I do not smoke or drink, and I’ve stayed away from straws, anything too hot or cold, nothing spicy or crunchy- so I’m on the clear at that. I also cannot open my jaw fully but after each meal I make sure to do a warm salt water rinse 3 to 5 times afterwards.
I just want to know if they look normal, (I’m only able to capture my lowers) how the picture looks it’s wonky, but my holes are pretty deep, and I still have mild pain/discomfort day five. I will note that I am also a mouth breather and at night is when I worry the most of developing dry socket.
Also I am on 250mg of liquid amoxicillin 10 ml twice a day for ten days to prevent infection. And I plan to make an appointment with my actual dentist for a follow up hitting the second week mark just in case.
So I just want to see if these look normal, and if I’m not going crazy. 1-3 months feel like a long time, but it took 3 years for me to grow each of my lower wisdom teeth so 3 months to heal fully will feel like nothing-
Hopefully.

2024.05.15 06:07 bidgoot Sinus perforation?

Sinus perforation?
I got a first molar extracted about a week ago, and to prepare for an implant I was supposed to get a bone graft and also a sinus lift. But after the procedure the surgeon said that when he extracted the tooth, there was just a hole directly into my sinus, no membrane, so they couldn't perform the sinus lift. He still put in the bone graft in the extraction site and stitched me up. Almost all of my swelling is gone and I'm not in pain, but today when I was breathing a little too deep through my nose I could feel it in the extraction site. Is this to be expected with a hole in my sinus? It feels weird, my sinus kind of vibrates around and I can feel the hole itself. Is it possible this wont heal on its own? I dont drink or smoke at all, just like to occasionally take a deep inhale through my nose :l Every now and then I feel a little bubble in that area and its kind of uncomfortable

2024.05.15 05:52 thedesignist Red sores on paw?

Photos here.
I noticed my corgi licking his paw the last few days but didn’t think anything of it. After our walk yesterday (we live in downtown and walk through the city to get to a grassy park) I noticed his back paw was bleeding a bit. I saw a raw looking spot (the bottom left) that looked like it had partially scabbed over so we sprayed liquid bandage on it and wrapped it overnight to keep him from licking it. We took it off in the morning and it looked much better. He didn’t really lick it at all yesterday or today and the paw seemed better (no bleeding and looked like it was healing). We took him swimming instead of his usual walk today; after we got back we noticed more licking. Upon checking his paw we noticed two more new reddish spots (pictured) but the original spot looks scabbed over with no bleeding. The 2 new spots aren’t bleeding, no broken skin but they look pretty red.
His other paws are totally fine and he hasn’t licked them so I don’t think it’s allergies (he doesn’t have any other allergy symptoms either). I’m wondering if it was an injury he got during a walk that maybe got infected? Should we take him to the vet or is this something that will probably heal on its own if we keep him from licking it more/keep him from walking around downtown for a few days?
