2024.05.15 18:43 Khelzus_Hyzen [TOMT] Probably around 2019 to 2023. Massive Collaborative computer graphics art project.

It wasn't a single art piece each participant had to make a short video. There was basically only two stipulations that I can remember. The video had to be a side view of someone or something pushing or pulling something. The setting could be anything from historical to fantasy and sci-fi. There were definitely hundreds of videos if not over a thousand. I first saw a clip of some examples on a top of all time or of the year filtered posts on a large subreddit that I can't remember.

2024.05.15 18:37 great_firefang The Official Novel mentioned Godzilla and Shimo fought in the past

The Official Novel mentioned Godzilla and Shimo fought in the past
We first saw Godzilla and Shimo's fight art In The Hunted comic. Yeah, they knew each other a long time ago, and might had a combat. The official novel further showed it. According to the Novel we can know something interesting and important.
1.Godzilla didn't win the battle of past. They clearly showed Godzilla's most powerful weapon, the Atomic Breathe wasn't do anything with her. But I believe Godzilla didn't hurt much. The relationship between Godzilla and her not like Monster Zero. Monster Zero is a pure alien destroyer, He is a old enemy of Godzilla. But Shimo isn't. She is also a protector of nature, she is kind and gentle. she even didn't want to attack Kong until Skar King cruelly order her. So the battle is scarcely possible a death fight. Godzilla probably challenged her, but didn't work. Of Course, Shimo probably wasn't do much thing to him. She is never a cruel creature.
2.Dr. Andrews think she is might bigger and more powerful than Godzilla according to the rock art.
3.Kong believed Godzilla is the strongest thing he had fought(obviously includes Mechagodzilla), However Shimo is stronger. In fact, Untill Godzilla enter his Supercharged Evo Form, he began to the equal battle with her.
  1. Shimo is the direct cause of Godzilla's evolution. We can compare with Kotm story,When Monster Zero wakes up, Godzilla immediately hunting him. But now, he absorbed nuclear power plant and the largest stockpile of solar radiation on the Earth before the war. If he won the battle with Shimo in the past, he certainly had no need to do that massive preparation. In fact, Kong found Godzilla was also not very confident in Hollow Earth Battle, though he is much more powerful than ever. Obviously, Godzilla know her power and not sure if he can defeat her.
  2. Shimo wasn't in the first war of Skar King. The film and novel all mentioned that. I don't know why some absurd people still say Godzilla exiled Skar king and She. Skar King controled her after he was trapped in Hollow Earth.
6.It need to be noted, Shimo shouldn't be seen enemies of Godzilla like Ghidorah and MUTOs. Godzilla had no hatred for her either. They both are members of natural balance. After GxK story, Their relationship will become even much better because he and Kong free her and give her a chance to revenge.
So that is. Those two beautiful and interesting Titans have more potential. I really wish they have more interesting stories, and can't wait to see them in the future films! ☢️ ❄️

2024.05.15 18:20 WastelandViking I'm bagging for recommendations. (Camera bag)

Looking for "the one (camera bag) to rule them all"
I have a Sony a6400 Sony 70-350mm Sigma 56mm Will be getting a ultra wide, when i can decide on 1.
On top of that I also have a Ulanzi F38 travel tripod .
(Also invested in MOMAS Wayfarer ltd + EL-bike. Mentioning it as it might be a bit bumpy, where i use it)
Don't know if this matters, but I'm Almost 6ft6..
Looking for a backpack I can bring on excursions, wether it be through streets, up forested mountains or a country roads less travelled.
I'd love it if the bag could fit: Extra batteries/powerbank Ear buds/Sunglasses Hoodie or jacket Drikking bottle. Maybe a sandwich/snacks. Has a pouch for gps dongle and place for keys And other such niceties. Have easier access to camera than take off my bag completely.
Would also be cool if it can handle camera bag clip on my shoulder straps.
The more of these, the better.
Bags I've looked at: Ulanzi BP10 Hardshell (does not ship to my nordic country) Shimoda explore v2 35L /shimoda urban/Shimoda action v2 40-70.. Wandrd PRV...
BUT I am as clueless about this as a blind man would be as an art painting inspector...
So suggest anything you think would fit.

2024.05.15 17:56 Isunova I lose any and all interest in a game the second the word “rogue-“ is mentioned. The genre is beyond saturated at this point.

I could watch a clip or look at some screenshots of a game that looks like it might be fun, but the second I see or hear the word “rogue-” I nope out and never look back.
Why is every single indie game these days some pixelshit roguewhatever? The games industry is becoming more creatively bankrupt by the day.
I looked through the eShop earlier and I couldn’t tell you the difference between 80% of the indie games on there. Same pixeljunk art style, same roguelike dungeon crawling, same…everything. Fucking hell.

2024.05.15 17:56 HyenaInternational73 Shame has ended many of my relationships.

Greetings, When I(35M) was younger I was often considered a very intelligent and talented individual. I was proficient in writing and was talented in the in Arts. My life took a horrible turn when my brother died. I lost most of my faith, and everything that I loved to do suddenly became painful to do. I used to write screenplays and with a cast perform them. I continued doing this for a year but the last one I did I recall thinking to myself as the crowd applauded, I wish he was here to see this. It was the most bitter of sweets. So I stopped everything. That led to some game addiction and playing with other people to fill a hole. Even when I got a girl I often though t about how my bro and her would get along and I just got tired of these thoughts. I crashed for years and now my old friends and family I avoid. My friends have moved and done better things and often they call or text but ignore them. My most recent text was from whoa friend literally asked, "are you alive!?" Followed by several calls. He's doing great and now I just don't want to have people I care hear my lame story, because we know they're gonna ask " what are up to?!" My family is about the same. To know that I was such a promising role model to, now barely able to afford my own apartment, I rather be a ghost than a further disappointment. I know they still love me, but...several years later, until I have something of merit to show them.. I don't think I will want to reconnect with them. At least then I could say " well it took a long time but I made it". Or something along those lines I just recently watched Dr.K video on shame and I'm trying to work through and regain not only my will to push forward but also all my relationships back, I just may not have anymore friends by that time but I would at least be able to make new ones. Thanks for listening

2024.05.15 17:52 Feisty_Cloud862 Gaming Artists, Send Me Some Pointers Please?

I'll make this short, so please read and help me out?
I have experience with freelance character concept art, and basic hobby experience with 2D rigging. I want to build a career creating the artwork for gaming developers to use. I used to do this in pixel art a decade ago when BYOND was still a thing (I feel old now) and it was my favorite thing to do. I let that dream die, because everyone always told me the "Starving Artist! Choose something else!" rant. But now I'm suffering because I gave up on my dreams and lived as a platform for everyone else's dreams. So now I'm crashing back onto my own path to chase my own passion. I need a little guidance to get running though.
Current Knowledge/Skills
What I Don't Know
Because I already have a chunk of useable skills, I don't want to waste time (and money) going through a college degree. So I am forming a 1-2 year plan to self-teach the additional skills and knowledge. Online courses are okay too! I will appreciate any advice and information, unless it is to stop.
Thank you!

2024.05.15 17:51 Brittle-Bees Labour's Transphobia Masterpost - Request

I'm wanting to create a package of the missteps, U-Turns and outright transphobic actions of the Labour Party and it's members, within the past few years, ahead of the next General Election.
I really only want it to use as a resource to present to family and friends ahead of the election to present them with the information in Labour's actions when it comes to trans people so they can go into the next election fully informed. I never want to tell people how they HAVE to vote. But I believe that some people still believe they have a good view on trans issues, which is incorrect as evidenced by their actions in the last 5+ years.
If this is unnecessary, or unwanted, please let me know and I can remove this post. Also, if you are not in the head space to be viewing a post as negative as this, please turn away, your mental health is more important, please take care of yourself. You are loved and the majority of people think so, don't let the loud minority convince you otherwise.
TL;DR - Please share any articles, headlines, tweets and clips of Labour's bad trans policies and actions, so I can create a master post.
EDIT: This isn't to say I'm unaware, I just want to ensure I cover mostof it, if not everything.

2024.05.15 17:39 dajabec Suggestion: Leechified variants

The variants would just be base card art with a big yellow triangle over the art with a big yellow exclamation mark in the middle. If you collect the whole set you get a Leech "thumbs up" emote!
Some cards to include in the set: Annihilus, Silver Surfer, Blink, Sage, Odin, Spectrum, Dr Doom, Ultron, Jane Foster, Modok, Sandman, and a special 5000 token ultimate Leeched Hela.

2024.05.15 17:38 Drummerjawkneed One More Time (I'm making content w VDrums)

One More Time (I'm making content w VDrums)
Hopefully my playing has chilled! 😅 Daft Punk drum performance ☝️
This was during my stream last night on TikTok Live. (First ever for me)
It's cool to post the " perfect take " but people make mistakes and drumming is art. I just post what i stream so you'll see mistakes and TALENT GONE WRONG be these are all one takes.
I enjoy editing and visuals on videos. Figuring out ways to hold a non musician viewers attention span. That's more or less the goal here as not many people (including drummers) want to watch a drummer play the whole song be there's a better clip of someone gaming or talking shit 😂
At this point I've even thought about embedding another gamers stream on my stream to cross utilize viewers engagement and community building. 🤔
Thoughts? 🧐

2024.05.15 17:33 marlonbrochill Starting in my garage?

I just woke from my 2nd lucid dream ever. Both times I wasn't actively trying to LD, but the moments I realized I was dreaming we're similar:
I somehow ended up in my garage and I realized something was off because it was empty. Then after the LD realization I would open the garage to explore.
The first time, the door was normal and I ended up in my neighborhood (although it was empty and with a yellow haze).
This recent one, the door was like a smooth particle board and orange. And it led to a desert with a bright white Dr. Seuss-like town I could explore.
My question is:
Should I always try and think of my garage when recalling and focusing on intent?
I don't have expectations for what's on the other side of the door. But I'm wondering if it would be helpful to use the garage as a place to see myself becoming lucid.
Thanks! And excited to explore this sub!

2024.05.15 17:10 Chen_Geller Tolkien Begginings: the antecedents of Peter Jackson's (and others) Middle-earth

Tolkien Begginings: the antecedents of Peter Jackson's (and others) Middle-earth
I still sit sometimes and chuckle, thinking "When Ralph Bakshi started animating The Lord of the Rings in 1976, did he know what he was going to unleash on the world?" There was also the Rankin/Bass TV special, being developed concurrently, but its the Bakshi film that, in 1979, Peter Jackson saw, and this young Photoengraver would later direct six (!) live-action Tolkien films and, between himself and co-producer Philippa Boyens, are hard to work producing three more such films. Other adaptations since - namely, The Rings of Power (especially Season One) but also games from The Shadow of Mordor to Return to Moria - have at the very least taken cues from Jackson's films. All because a Kiwi photoengraver saw a cartoon....
But the relationship between these properties is not so clear-cut as it may seem. I ednumbered the similarities and dissimilarities between Jacksons' films and The Rings of Power elsewhere. Now I want to delve deeper into the similarities and dissimilarities between Jackson and previous adaptations of Tolkien.

The Rankin/Bass TV Specials

Side-by-side video comparisons between Jackson's films and the two Rankin/Bass TV Specials do not reveal any similarities that don't come from the fact that they're adapting the same books. This is an important point: Jackson is NOT trying to make some post-modern "collage" Hollywood film. He's only tipping his hat to those adaptations of Tolkien that he had seen growing up and that influenced him personally.1
Due to copyright, the Rankin/Bass specials probably didn't air in New Zealand at all, and although it seems Jackson got a hold of the Rankin/Bass The Hobbit before embarking on The Lord of the Rings, he had not seen their Return of the King, certainly before 1999, and neither he nor his close collaborators have made comments about either of the two Specials. By contrast, the (American!) showrunners of The Rings of Power had referenced the Rankin/Bass Specials, and seemingly tipped their hat to it in a set design for season two.2

The Ralph Bakshi film

As I said, Jackson went to see the Bakshi film. He had enjoyed some of Bakshi's previous film, including the Tolkien-esque Wizards, released the previous year, and went to see his latest. At the time he hadn't read the books, making Bakshi's film his first exposure to Tolkien, but he does admit he "heard the name" of the book beforehand. His biography suggests he saw it in late 1978, when it first premiered, but surely it would have arrived at New Zealand in early 1979.3
The connection between the two films had been played up, unsurprisingly, by Ralph Bakshi himself. A leonine, grandiose man, Bakshi is anything but a reliable narrator. His own suggestion that he hadn't actually seen the films - only trailers, he claims - sounds believable enough and certainy understandable.4 But, then, if he didn't watch them, it makes his critique of them as deriviative of his films all the more dubious, even without actually looking at the specifics of what he said:
Look at his Lothlorien. Look at my backgrounds of Lothlorien. Take a look! He had much more to see than I did, and if you don't think he lifted it over and over again, you're wrong. I mean, how did he design a knife in Lord of the Rings? How did he design a sword? How did he design the dwarf with his axe? How did he design the fur around him? Why did Peter Jackson put fur around the dwarf? Because I put fur around the dwarf! Why would the dwarf have fur naturally? You see, I could give you a billion little things. I wish I had a movie to look at.5
These are truly some confused claims, for the most part. The most credible part here is the Hobbits hiding under the branch from the Ringwraiths, a shot composition later to also be replicated in season one of the Rings of Power, and which we'll get to later.
Another claim of Bakshi's that cannot be dismissed out of hand is that, however big or small a debt Jackson owes to his film, he said that Jackson didn't publically acknowledge the influence and felt that it was only appropriate to have welcomed him to visit the set or something: by comparison, Jackson invited Rick Baker, who played King Kong in the 1978 version, to cameo in his King Kong.6
Jackson actually did mention the Bakshi filming in passing in the making-ofs. Then again, he entirely fails to mention the radio serial, either. Ultimately, Jackson possibly in cahoots with New Line Cinema, must have felt it unwise to point to a previous adaptation that had only achieved mixed success, at the outset of his own enterprise. He did talk more about the Bakshi film, and more fondly, in the director's commentary to The Fellowship of the Ring and in a couple of later interviews, which are significant gestures, but he clearly wasn't going to trumpet the influence Bakshi's film had on him off of every rooftop.7
In his 2006 biography, Jackson actually briefly reviews the Bakshi film:
I liked the early part – it had some quaint sequences in Hobbiton, a creepy encounter with the Black Rider on the road, and a few quite good battle scenes – but then, about half way through, the storytelling became very disjointed and disorientating and I really didn’t understand what was going on. However, what it did do was to make me want to read the book – if only to find out what happened!8
This is a complementary but admittedly mixed review, and Jackson had made similar comments since, calling it "brave and ambitious" but consistently decrying the hokum of the film's second half.9 Now, it is true that artists can be influenced by a work of art in spite of themselves, but lets see if we can try and quantify the influence.
From the outset, in the audio commentary, Jackson remarks that "our film stylistically is very different and the design is different," which is apposite: Bakshi swore a debt to Howard Pyle, which certainly leaves its mark of the gorgeous natural bakcdrops, but a source closer at hand (especially considering his follow-up fantasy film, Fire and Ice) is the most popular fantasy illustrator of his day, Frank Frazetta: Bakshi's Witch King is practically ripped from Frazetta's famous "Dark Rider" illustration.10
Jackson's approach, however, was steeped in a kind of romantic realism that by and large eschewed the heightened work of Frazetta, opening a yawning stylistic gulf between his film and Bakshi's on a general level. Bakshi's Hobbit-holes have overhanging roofs that give the impression of fairies living under mushrooms (which they in fact had in his previous film, Wizards) and the interiors of Bag End are earthen, more of a rabbit-hole than Jackson's English countryside villa. There are some similarities, like the Hobbits having similarly-clipped pants, but its hard to say costume designer Ngilla Dickson had Bakshi in mind for that look.
There's the basic structure of the narrative: both films leave some of the same plot beats out - Tom Bombadil, most notably - both intercut the Frodo and Aragorn storylines throughout (as per the appendices rather than the body of the text), and both open with a prologue. However, many of these are common-sense approaches that, if one were to put 100 screenwriters in a room, a good 90 of which would choose to pursue: in fact, Sir John Boorman's earlier Lord of the Rings script had likewise intercut the stories and redacted many of the same episodes as both Bakshi and Jackson, and similar approaches were taken in the 1958 Morton Zimmerman treatment. Certainly, in the case of the choice to pursue a prologue, a precedent closer at hand exists in the form in the 1981 radio serial, a point made all the stronger by the fact that when Jackson first concieved of and sketched the prologue, he hadn't seen Bakshi's film in 20 years.11
Bakshi did claim that New Line were screening his film repeatedly, but author Ian Nathan says that was never the case. Miramax did screen the film for Jackson in 1997, after he'd written the treatment. Jackson's treatment included Glorfindel and Erkenbrand, who in subsequent drafts are replaced by Arwen (Legolas in Bakshi's film) and Eomer, but still I find that it falls more into the realm of common-sense screenwriting decisions than anything that could be tied to Bakshi in a clear way, especially the latter which happens at the end of Bakshi film, a part of the film Jackson admits to have found incoherent.12
Rather, the place to look for similarities between the two projects is in the opening leg of The Fellowship of the Ring. Jackson actually, in the director's commentary, points out the shot of Odo Proudfoot calling "Proudfeet!" as a deliberate homage to Bakshi's shot, "which I thought was great." He doesn't acknowledge a couple - only a couple - of other shots that are quite similar: one is the evocative shot of the Ring tumbling over the rocks in Gollum's cave just before Bilbo finds it. Another still is an entire sequence of shots which misdirect us into thinking the Ringwraiths killed the Hobbits in their beds. Both are a little TOO similar to be waved away as coincidental.13
The Ringwraith shot is a more special case: It was nominally based off of a John Howe illustration, ostensibly of the Bakshi scene. But Jackson - who's quoted review of the Bakshi film mentions this scene - could hardly not notice the similarity to the Bakshi scene, especially since the scene doesn't at all play like this in the novel. What's more, the scene was first storyboared only shortly after Jackson say Bakshi's film for the second time, and shot not too long after that being that it was the first scene filmed. So its only fair to cite Bakshi as an influence on that shot.14
https://preview.redd.it/9mbqqm4zul0d1.png?width=550&format=png&auto=webp&s=a45cdd06543d70200e3eacf150f14d03d222203b
There are other bits and pieces: did Jackson have Bakshi in mind when he added a scene of Saruman rallying up the Uruk-hai before the siege of Helm's Deep? Its hard to say. An even more elusive case is made by Bakshi: "I'm glad Peter Jackson had a movie to look at—I never did. And certainly there's a lot to learn from watching any movie, both its mistakes and when it works." In other words, Bakshi here suggests his film influenced Jackson in terms of what NOT to do. To his credit, Jackson does remember that the design process for Treebeard was in part motivated by trying to divorce him from the Bakshi version, which both him and Dame Fran Walsh remember as being "like a walking carrot." But when we start getting into that level, it all becomes very tenuous. There were a lot of things about the fantasy genre in general - Conan the Barbarian and Willow are oft-cited by Jackson - that he tried to avoid.15
Ultimately, I have to judge that the similarities between the two versions amount to a handful of rather insignificant beats, all in the first hour of Fellowship of the Ring. To hyperbolically play up the similarities between the two projects is to give in to Bakshi's hyperbolic rhetoric.

Tolkien illustrations

Jackson's first and, at the time, only copy of The Lord of the Rings was a tie-in to the Bakshi film. This would mean he hadn't gotten into the world of Tolkien illustrations until developing his own films, when he suggests he went on a detail-exhaustive search for Tolkien art. He had seen Tolkien's own illustrations, but decided that they're "not very helpful in terms of the lighting and the mood."16
The most acclaimed illustrators of the previous era of Tolkien were Pauline Bayens (whose Minas Tirith is reproduced in the Rankin/Bass Return of the King) and the Brothers Hildebrandt, whose bestial Balrog presents a precursor both to Bakshi's but also to the Minotaur-like Balrog of John Howe.17
Howe was one of a trifecta of Tolkien illustrators, along with Ted Nasmith and Alan Lee, to enjoy great vogue at the time when Jackson was developing his films. Of the three, Lee is often deemed the most celebrated and certainly made the biggest impact on Jackson, whose next copy of the book was to be an Alan Lee illustrated edition. But he also noticed Howe through is work on Tolkien calendars, and later also purchased some originals of Ted Nasmith. All three were approached to participate in concept design for the films, although Nasmith sadly had to decline.18
In many places, Jackson precisely copied designs of Lee's and Howe's existing paintings, and in some places carbon copied their lighting and composition for shots, as well as grading the films (before the advent of the latest remaster) somewhat along the lines established in their paintings. But the majority of Lee and Howe's work for Jackson was in producing NEW concept art to his specifications, and so its wrong to look at Jackson's films as being a part of the Lee-Howe ouevure, as such.

The 1981 Radio Serial

A less touted influence on Jackson's film is the superlative 1981 BBC radio serial. Where Jackson hadn't reread the book nor revisited Bakshi's film between 1979 and 1997, he had spent much of the that time listening on-and-off to a tape of the radio serial, usually while working in his garage on special effects.19
The most obvious similarity is the casting of Sir Ian Holm, who had voiced Frodo in the radio serial, as Bilbo. Holm was apparently at the top of Jackson's casting wishlist, partially for this reason. A particularly striking moment occurs when Holm's Frodo quotes Bilbo's "Its a dangerous business Frodo, going out your door: you step on to the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to", a line again given to Holm - now as Bilbo - in voiceover at the same spot in Jackson's film.20
Again, many of the similar structural choices here are similar to Jackson, adding a prologue, contracting the early stages of Frodo's quest and intercutting the Aragorn and Frodo's stories throughout. Brian Sibley admits to have modelled his prologue on Bakshi's own, but Jackson is unlikely to have known it at the time, and when we start thinking in terms of second-hand influences we're again into very tenuous territory. Otherwise, the influence doesn't seem all too great, although Sibley remembers that Walsh, perhaps half-jokingly, told him "we stole your ending" in the way that they did the Grey Havens and then a quick segue to Sam's return home, basically along the lines of the book.21
A young, and already Tolkien-devotee, Sir Ian Holm recording Bilbo
Sibley had recruited his cast from the BBC's company of actors, which is also the troupe Bakshi turned to, meaning that Sibley ended-up with Bakshi's Boromir (Michael Graham Cox) and, notably, his Gollum (Peter Woodthorpe). In spite of Woodthorpe's evocative performance of Gollum's voice in both the Bakshi and Sibley versions, its influence on Andrew Serkis' performance of Gollum is nonexistent, as Serkis had developed the voice before having heard Woodthorpe rendition, having only read The Hobbit prior to being cast.22

Other fantasy films

Jackson had seen pretty much all the fantasy films of the 1980s, and while they were important in terms of establishing the genre, they hadn't left much of an impression on Jackson. The most succesful - George Lucas' Star Wars - was more space-fantasy, undoubtedly impressed Jackson but didn't much influence his films: to this day, he professes to not be a huge Star Wars fan, in spite of the amiacable manner he and Lucas took with each other in later years, and admits that he sees the influence of Lucas more "in what he did for the industry, not in terms of the actual films that he made."23
The first major high-fantasy film, Sir John Boorman's Excalibur, was a little closer to Jackson's heart, but isn't much of an influence on his films either. Its true that Jackson's films feature a lot of plate armour, but that's indebted primarily to John Howe's abiding love of late Medieval armour, and at any rate is quite different to the Enlightement-era suits of armour one finds in Boorman's film. Willow, produced by George Lucas, was a big shot to the arm of New Zealand's fledgling film industry, and like Star Wars is much indebted to The Hobbit, but left a bad impression on Jackson.24
The Clockmaker's Cottage in Sir Ridley Scott's Legend
Two exceptions are to be cited; Ray Harryhousen's stop-motion fantasy films from the 1950s were huge favourites of Jackson's, although their more Graeco-Roman subject matters were a genre apart from Jackson's films. He is also a big fan of Sir Ridley Scott, and while he joins the consensus of deriding William Hjortsberg notorious screenplay, had taken some cues from his Legend (1986): there's something of the Clockmaker's cottage in Rhosgobel, and Jackson referenced some of the features of Tim Curry's devilish "Lord of Darkness" for the Wargs sinewy faces.25

Other films

Jackson took influence from paintings of old battles and landscapes, but surely his biggest influences are other films: Zulu and Saving Private Ryan had been referenced for Helm's Deep, and there's a touch of Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line, which Jackson had watched before principal photography, to the atmospheric shots that close the Fellowship prologue. Jackson admitted to rewatching mostly Scorsese films while shooting, and certainly the energy of his moving cameras find a closer kin in Scorsese's films than in anyone else's. There's something of David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia to Jackson's intention to make living, breathing people out of his fantasy characters.26
Surely the inspiration for the shot of Aragorn arriving at Helm's Deep
But there's one film that looms largest in Jackson's films, overshadowing any influence we're looked at so far: Mel Gibson's latest spectacular, Braveheart. Along with other films of this kind like Dances with Wolves and Rob Roy (Gladiator came too late to much influence Jackson's films) it is of crucial importance to the overall cinematic style of Jackson's films, having come out just as Jackson first started thinking of making an original fantasy film, and winning the academy award for Best Picture before any sustained work was done to develop The Lord of the Rings.27

Conclusions

Any notion that Jackson's films are derivative of previous Tolkien adaptations - namely, Bakshi's - are very much hyperbolic, and stem more from adopting an inflated rhetoric taken by the likes of Bakshi. As an adaptation, Jackson's works are based soley on Tolkien's books, and merely tip their hat occasionally to previous adaptations - and not all previous adaptations, either. Cinematically, they draw rather from other sources: less from other adaptations of Tolkien or other fantasy film (Tolkien-esque or not) and more from historical epics, both from the 1960s but also and especially from the time in which Jackson first started developing his films.

Artist who hates line art does line art (pain) [OC art]
I quit doing lineart a couple years back, but I do have a ton of practice with it, so my lines are somewhat stable. The brush was *mwah*
This took around 2 hours to make (excluding coloring which I didn't include)
Usually, when I draw, I do a simple sketch. I never aim for the sketch to be perfect, and I leave some things to be cleaned during the rendering process. After the sketch, I had the base colors, and then render (which includes a lot of duplicating, merging and liquifying) I try to prioritize speed over anything else, which was why I stopped doing line art all together, because of house time consuming it is. This bust of my character took 2 hours to make, which is how long I take to make a fully rendered piece.
If I didn't do the lineart it this, I would've been able to render it 💀 It took me all morning.

2024.05.15 16:08 PsychologicalYou4746 Living with my (24M) long term boyfriend (24M) is like raising a toddler. What should I do?

My boyfriend and I have been together since highschool and survived being long distance during college. After college I got a high paying engineering job and had to move to a specific city for it. He struggled to find a job after college and continued to work in his school's library part time. He didn't have much financial freedom because of that, but still wanted to stay in an expensive, east coast city rather than moved back to the midwest. I think he expected that I would eventually move to his new city instead, despite me telling him that I can't really compromise this job.
He moved into a place with some roommates in his college town. After a while of putting up with some abuse from these roommates (others have agreed that he was subject to some abuse from them; those aren't just his words) he finally agreed to quit his job at the library and move in with me across country. Almost immediately the problems began. Up until that point I had been living alone for a year, working full time, and keeping a very strict diet and work out regimen. I don't want to get too much into it, but I've struggled with disordered eating in the past and while tracking calories and macros aren't the best practice, it's what I need to do to avoid bingeing and starving cycles. It was a lot of work but I managed to keep myself healthy and my apartment mostly clean by myself.
When I say clean I don't mean a deep clean every weekend type of deal, but things like putting groceries away, making sure the dishes aren't piling up, hanging up laundry, etc. Apparently that is wanting to live in a "show home," to my boyfriend. Upon arrival he unloaded a cargo van's worth of things into my apartment, which fair enough that's how moving works. After the first week of things going unpacked and making it impossible to use the living room, however, I expressed how much it was stressing me out to not be able to use my own spaces anymore and he guilt tripped me about how he just away from two roommates that would scream at him over slight messes while not cleaning up their own messes, saying I was triggering him. I decided to give him more time to unpack and get organized. I even bought more shelves for him to store all his things on so they're off the floor. It's been months and there are still boxes of things just shoved in the corner and apparently there are more things on the way because when he went to college he left some boxes with a friend of his from highschool.
Since he was unemployed when he got here and was already struggling financially before that, and I make more than enough money to support my own life style, I was covering all the rent, groceries, transportation, etc. I was also doing pretty much all the cooking because I wanted to keep up with my meal prepping and whenever he uses the kitchen he leaves behind a huge mess. One time I made the mistake of telling him how much his mess was stressing me out and I got hit with the same "you're triggering me because you know roommates X and Y would keep me from using the kitchen." I had even prefaced my statement by saying "I know this is a rough subject, but..." So now I'm buying all the food, and cooking all the food, but he's apparently so stressed from the last few years that his "threshold of tolerance," is so low that the only thing he can eat is bland, simple food, usually soup. If I spend time cooking my own food he assumes it's to share and will complain that I added spices or made a curry or chili that's thick instead of soupy how he likes it, but then if I make him the bland food his stomach can handle he'll forget it in the fridge and it gets thrown away. And I am ALWAYS the one dealing with rotten food that needs to be thrown away. He just leaves the containers of food on the counter until I deal with them.
On top of that he leaves half eaten food out for days at a time, leaves empty food container like chip bags or apple cores sitting out, leaves napkins and tissues all over the place, misses the trashcan when throwing stuff away and just leaves it. And there's just constant clutter of his art supplies. Art is the one thing he can handle focusing on, an I try to support him to put his things online and try to make some money off of it. A lot of his art work circles around repurposing literal trash though and he uses maybe 1/10 of the "supplies" he gathers. There's a container of onion skins on the counter that he tells me to save because he wants to make ink with it, he makes me save the bags from frozen fruit and veggies so he can make "plarn" and weave it into a picknick blanket, he gathers random bits of literal garbage that he sees on walks to basically piles in up in the spare bedroom which I cannot even enter anymore because of the mess.
There's been a little progress with getting his digital artwork on a website, but I had to hold his hand and walk him through the process of putting together a shop because the task was too much to deal with on his own. That's really the biggest issue: he cannot handle any tasks if I'm not holding his hand all the way through it. Doing the laundry is basically the only thing he can do without prompting or input. There are big things I understand wanting moral support for like putting in job apps and going to interviews, but even little things like making sure he goes for a bike ride or eats enough is offloaded onto me. Everyday I have to spend like a half hour going, "hey are you going to go for that ride you said you wanted to? You should get going before it's dark, you'll feel better afterwards, etc" in order to get him out because I KNOW if I didn't get him to do it then he would make it my problem that his back hurts from not working out. Every day it's "have you eaten yet? What would you like? Can I make you something?" Because I KNOW if his blood sugar gets low and he gets cranky it'll be my problem. I have to spend an additional half hour every night making sure he eats the food I bought and I cooked.
And all this time I spend making sure he's comfortable and taken care of and being productive on his own tasks takes away from time I used to spend doing enjoyable things. I used to enjoy reading and writing and was working on a novel, but I just don't have time anymore. I'm missing days at the gym and needing to take shorter runs. I have to cut down on time I spend playing D&D with my friends. I can't find time to go to the local maker space and blacksmith, which is my favorite hobby. I can't even get my own chores done because every time I try to get locked in on a task I'm interrupted every minute by him calling me to come give him input on something or rub his back or just sit with him while he does something. It's actually making me worse about keeping up with cooking and cleaning. Silly me for thinking having an unemployed person living with me for free would make it easier to keep the apartment in order.
Before I go on, I need to emphasize that I understand why he's acting this way, and I know it isn't malicious, which is what makes this so hard. I know the hording comes from his abusive mother who would get drunk and throw away or break all his things randomly when he was a kid. I know the hype stress responses to doing anything work/money related is because his aunt forced him to go to school for a degree he didn't want, he was rejected from so many STEM jobs, and he's been living in poverty his whole life. I know the cleaning is because he just lives with the clutter his whole life and I don't think he even recognizes it. I know why he's doing all the things he does and needs all the support he does, and I know he isn't doing it to intentionally hurt me. That said I was already practicing a lot of discipline and exerting a lot of energy to keep my life on track before he moved in and now it feels like I have double the responsibility and half the progress.
A few weeks ago he finally got a job as a shipment manager in a grocery store, which I thought would be good for him: he could meet some new friends, earn some money, get out of the apartment more than once a week. He hates it, says there's work drama, and has needed to come home early multiple times because the stress was causing him to dissociate. We need to move again soon because I'm being relocated for work and he says he's glad he won't be working there for very much longer. We move at the end of June and he's supposed to go live on a farm for a few months in September. For context there's a self-sufficient farm community that takes volunteers in exchange for a stipend and room+board that he's been talking to for years. It didn't work out during college, but he's supposed to go this year for a few months.
Obviously I have mixed feelings on that. 1) that means he'll probably be unemployed for two months again after we move. 2) I'll be glad to be living alone again. 3) I'm afraid he's going to find out how much work a farm is and come back in even worse shape than he's already in. All around I don't know how to handle this. I know I don't want to live with him, which really should mean we break up, but we've been together for almost a decade and I know exactly why he is behaving the way he is. I don't know if he can recover and get back to being self sufficient like he was before college, but I know it is hurting me to try and help him in his healing. I still love him and I don't want anything bad to happen to him, which is why I can't just kick him out. He doesn't have the money to live alone and he doesn't know anyone else he could live with without moving across country again. I don't want him to be homeless because he needs support that I can't keep giving, but I can't keep living like this.
TL;DR: My boyfriend moved in with me and due to valid stress and trauma he is nearly incapable of adulting. The stress of supporting him in basically every facet of life is becoming too much to handle, but I don't want to kick him out and make him homeless.

2024.05.15 16:00 HylyniXx There is no clipping in the 3D viewport, but there is in the rendering.

Hello everyone,
I've started recently to use Blender for posing and render 3D art. I've used this Tifa Lockhart model as my first one.
I modified her proportions, so her body is thicker and more athletic but the problem resides in that there is no clipping in the 3D viewport, but there is in the render.
Like I said before, I'm a noob, so I watched some videos here and there to avoid clipping in the outfit. In these videos, it was used weight paint but I didn't manage to solve it/use the tool correctly, hence I used sculpt mode, concretely the inflate tool.
It seemed solved but in the moment of rendering the scene, it is shown as I didn't use any of the previously used tools.
I attach how the model is seen in the 3D viewport, the rendered image and the output properties.

Thanks for taking your time reading this, and I look forward to hear from all of you. ❤
P.S: If these aren't enough images, let me know so I can provide more, it is my first post on here, sorry if I did something wrong.

2024.05.15 15:57 ExperienceDeep7473 I'm getting fucking fed up of this girl.

tl;dr: I have a female classmate who is really SUS and still super popular
copied from one of my earlier comments:
haha yessss that explains it. after seeing your post I did some research on google on this girl who is SUPER popular and is "a genius" . But guess what , she is conventionally attractive so her popularity is explained by the other boys want her to suck their d**ks (like seriously she has less character than most computers I used, my computer has a friendly UI, she is less friendly than a MacBook with soldered on components is repair-unfriendly, not to mention she uses gay and down and cancer and that sort of shit as swear words) and WOULD YOU GUESS WHAT, her parents are very successful, not the Steve Wozniak kind of successful, but the "had rich family inheritance and does corrupt bullshit" (in fact they had been tried for corruption but the expensive lawyer got them out of it) kind of successful. so I wouldn't be surprised if THEY were pulling some strings to make her "seem smart". You know what, I know a person with Down syndrome, and they are more emphatetic than her. serious, fuck pretty people, and especially fuck pretty people with more money than their brain the size of a Meteor Lake IO die (New Intel processor) can comprehend. and especially fuck pretty people who misuse their money with their pea sized brain the size of Meteor Lake IO die. as a computer enthusiast, it pains me to have to deal with such shitty Apple sheep who defend soldered on SSDs (I say that as a huge Mac fan, I can appreciate Apple and criticize their decisions without being a mindless Apple hater). As a science buff, it pains me to have to deal with someone who doesn't appreciate the beauty of science and just pimps it to SEEM smart (while not knowing what the difference between a up and down quark is). As someone with a sense of humor, it pains me to have to deal with a douche who goes and claims laughing at a suggestive joke is "misogynistic". Like guys, why make this douche popular when in reality she belongs in hell, sitting on a 14900KS with no cooling (14900ks runs really hot).
p.s. : she won an art competition. seems sus?
P.S.S: I asked ChatGPT for its opinion and it agreed she is a douche( not litterally called her a douche but OK)
yeah pretty much that, but I want too reiterate that people like her belong in hell once again. like today we got a surprise test back, the average was like 9 percent. I got 20 percent, a really smart guy got 33 percent, but guess what, she got 96 percent. like legit this douche was the only one to get anything above 60 percent. I really wanted to solder her onto my Macs empty NAND pads when I saw that. What is the reason for her like never having a bad test, ON A FUCKING SURPRISE TEST. I sit in the class with by far the highest average in the school, the school wide average is 68 percent, in my class that jumps to 81 percent, so its not like my class is filled with dumbasses or anything, ALL of us got into the schools gifted students program. Oh god would I like to jam her into a black hole (a supermassive black hole to prolong the torture.

2024.05.15 15:56 WastelandViking Looking for "the one (camera bag) to rule them all"

Bags I've looked at: Ulanzi BP10 Hardshell (does not ship to my nordic country) Shimoda explore v2 35L /shimoda urban/Shimoda action.. Wandrd PRV...
BUT I am as clueless about this as a blind man would be as an art painting inspector...
So suggest anything you think would fit.

Positivem Hundetraining verwechseln:
Positive Verstärkung / Belohnung: etwas angenehmes Hinzugeben.
Negative Verstärkung / Belohnung: etwas unangenehmes Wegnehmen.
Positive Strafe: etwas unangenehmes Hinzufügen.
Negative Strafe: etwas angenehmes Wegnehmen.
