I'm on my first cruise (Crown Princess to Alaska) and having quite a good time- leaning into the spirit of "drunken luxury hotel on water."
However the one thing I might improve is that it feels a bit like you're in a casino. Meaning the overall aesthetics and slightly the vibe (nothing against the actual gambling/casino portion of the ship.)
The ship I'm on has that cheesecake factory aesthetic, and a Vegas-y who-knows-what-time-of-day-it-is, gamble and drink til you drop vibe. There are some nice spots I like on the ship (like this room with big panoramic windows and classic 20s decor near the aft,) but mostly you never really "feel" like you're on the ocean when you're in the main entertainment areas.
I'm wondering if there are cruise lines or ships out there that are more old world classic (think Titanic), or on the other end of the scale, more bright and clean, perhaps a bit spa-like.

THE PROBLEM

If you look at the Wikipedia articles for major resorts on the Las Vegas Strip (past or present), in many cases you will find that the pushpin location on the map is a bit off. This is especially noticeable for properties that are located west of Las Vegas Blvd. - the pushpin will show up on the east side of The Strip. POSSIBLE CAUSE & TROUBLESHOOTING

The source of the map for each of these articles is this .png file:

In the description for this map, the bounding box latitude and longitude values were:

top = 36.1424 bottom = 36.0894 left = -115.2097 right = -115.134 

I looked at OpenStreetMaps and tried to find the "true" bounding box values. From my estimation, the latitude values (top & bottom) were pretty accurate, but the longitude values (left & right) were both a bit off. I made an edit to this page where I changed those values to:

left = -115.1947 right = -115.1404 

I made that change yesterday, but it hasn't caused the pushpin locations to change on any of the articles posted above. This was my first time editing anything on Wikipedia, and I'm not sure that changing these values on this page will have any effect on how pushpins are rendered. Perhaps the pushpins are only rendered based on the bounding box values as they existed originally or at the time the map was originally rendered when the Wikipedia page attempted to access the map.

QUESTION

Does anyone here know how I could get these pushpins to show up closer to their true positions? Would it require making edits to each of these Wikipedia pages individually? Would I have to create a new map, and then edit each of these pages to reference the new map? (After all, the original map is from 2016 and already outdated.) Very curious to learn more about how maps work in Wikipedia!

Hello fellow NV fans!
I come to you in an effort to (possibly) fix the near constant crashing of my NV.
It crashes around 30-40 minutes playing OR in specific areas wich I cannot go through, i.e. McCarran interior around Col. Hsu, The Mojave Outpost interior around Maj. Knight and Ranger Jackson.
I am aware that certain mods should be a no-go together like New California and TTW, for instance. My intention with adding specifically New California was cause I wanted a few specific armors and such.
Looking for any specific help or general directions and knowledge in this area.
PS: have lots of crash logs.

Which casinos have Vegas Knights chips? I think I saw some at MGM Grand last year. Going back soon and want to be able to get and keep one. TIA

Playing $1/$2 at MGM Vegas last night around 3AM. Good table, everyone there to have fun except one guy with the biggest stack and something to prove we’ll call poopiepants (PP).
One hand is heads up between Old Man (OM) and Drunk Kid (DK). Ends up going to showdown. Community cards Qh-Qs-4h-6h-2h. OM shows first, Kh. His other hole card is stacked underneath the Kh so we can’t see it. DK shows he had QcTc. PP is sitting next to OM. Immediately after DK flips, PP reaches over to OM’s cards, one position to his right, and splits them to reveal the bottom card, out of frustration with the amateurism and time wasting from OM not realizing he needs to show both cards to take the pot.
Dealer sternly tells PP not to touch other players’ cards. This is apparently an unacceptable insult to PP. He short circuits and tells the dealer he’s wrong, it’s a “tabled hand” so he can do whatever he wants to it. Demands dealer call manager over to prove the dealer is wrong. Manager comes over and doesn’t even understand what the fuck is going on, just sees the King high flush against trip queens and says the flush wins and walks away.
PP cannot let it go. Starts getting into it with another player who’s taking the side of the dealer. He will not shut the fuck up about it, insisting that shit like this is the reason games are so fucking slow, and is toeing the line between taking a strong stance and being a grown man whining in a casino. I thought he was about to start crying at one point. 2 players exit the table because they can’t listen to it anymore.
Regardless of PP’s attitude, who was technically right here?

Bengaluru broke a 133-year rain record by almost 10mm last Sunday, with 111mm (4.37 inches) of rain falling in a single day. In Sri Lanka, some 24,000 people were displaced by recent flooding. A heat wave swept through the southwest United States and northern Mexico. Part of Niger already broke its June temperature record. Parts of New South Wales, Australia broke nighttime temperatures as well; so did the Philippines, and Vietnam. And a heat wave in Greece.
“Atmospheric blocking” happens when regions of the atmosphere remain stationary for days or weeks, imposing similar weather on a region for a while. A study released in Nature Communications looked at Svalbard, which is warming faster than the Arctic, which is itself warming faster than most of the rest of the planet. The researchers claim that atmospheric blocking has resulted in warmer & wetter conditions in Svalbard, which is driving its ice loss. “The augmented blocking in the Ural and Scandinavian regions in the future combined with the projected declines in sea ice, and increases in sea surface temperatures and moisture availability, will likely increase the magnitude and frequency of exceptional rainfall incidents similar to the 2016 occurrence, posing further hazards to the population and ecosystems in Svalbard.”
A paywalled study in Nature Climate Change emphasizes “in the absence of a global tipping point there is no safety margin within which permafrost loss would be acceptable.” The summary states that permafrost melt does not have a worldwide tipping point, but rather several local temperature thresholds. Permafrost worldwide is expected to be all melted once global temperature gains hit 5 or 6 °C.
We are currently in the brief neutral period between El Niño and La Niña, expected to begin around August. Meteorologists expect temperatures in the eastern Pacific to decline for between 1 and 3 years—and for stronger Atlantic hurricanes. A 14-page report from the WMO forecasts a particularly wet summer for Central America.
Monsoon storms in Sri Lanka killed 14, mostly by falling trees, though others drowned or were covered by landslides. Texas saw “canteloupe-size hail” fall during a freak tornado; some think it is a record size for the region. Experts say some 23% of Africa’s land has been degraded, by five major factors: 1) invasive species, 2) climate change, including Drought and flooding, 3) resource extraction, 4) deforestation, and 5) pollution, including algal blooms. Poverty, population growth, and resource dependencies have aggravated the problem, says the article.
In Kashmir, a glacier Collapsed, sending three plunging into the ice, one of whom has still not been found. In the Philippines, a volcanic mud landslide swept into a village; volcano alerts were raised to 2 (on a 0-5 scale). Rising sea levels are displacing residents of one of Panama’s islands (pop: ~1,200); others will follow. Greece is gearing up for a fierce wildfire season ahead. And, in a moment of hopeful news, Sweden is banning bottom trawling in its “marine protected areas.”
In the EU, early polling appears to show a “greenlash,”, a backlash to the Green Alliance—and perhaps a loss of some 30% of their 72 current seats in the EU Parliament (705 total). Some blame the “moral superiority complex” of Greens, while others believe it is their lack of compromise on important issues. Farmer protests also damaged Green sentiment; now future sweeping climate reforms will probably have to wait years to get passed, since conservatives are expected to make gains. Most results will emerge within 24 hours of this post.
Worldwide, 39% of environmental journalists have faced threats due to their reporting—according to a 112-page report by the Earth Journalism Network. Most of the threats came to reporters writing about illegal extraction operations.
Roughly 20% of sealife near the surface is expected to face a “triple threat” of climate hazards: extreme heat, oxygen loss and acidification. Some of these species will die in place; others will be forced into progressively smaller living spaces. Most of the danger lies in the northern Pacific. The full study in AGU Advances has more.
The UN Secretary-General announced that we are on the “highway to climate hell.” And we aren’t wearing any seatbelts. The EU Copernicus Programme says last May was the hottest on record. This means the last 12 months were the hottest on record, with each consecutive month setting a new monthly record. Our planet is supposedly on the edge of 1.5 °C temperature increase, but some think we’ve already surpassed it.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released a 27-page report, “Global Annual to Decadal Climate Update 2024-2028,” predicting short-term temperatures exceeding the 1.5 °C mark.

“The global mean near-surface temperature for each year between 2024 and 2028 is predicted to be between 1.1°C and 1.9°C higher than the average over the years 1850-1900. It is likely (80% chance) that global mean near-surface temperature will exceed 1.5°C above the 1850-1900 average levels for at least one year between 2024 and 2028. It is about as likely as not (47%) that the five-year mean will exceed this threshold….Arctic warming over the next five extended winters (November to March), relative to the average of the 1991-2020 period, is predicted to be more than three times as large as the warming in global mean temperature. Predicted precipitation patterns for 2024, relative to the 1991-2020 average, suggest an increased chance of low rainfall over North-East Brazil and an increased chance of wet conditions in the African Sahel, consistent with the warmer-than-usual temperatures in the North Atlantic….

The Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy released its 2024 Environmental Policy Index, and the 204 pages illustrate the state of sustainability in 180 countries, according to 58 indicators. The document, full of useful graphics and accessible summaries, presents a world in escalating danger of global heating, pollution, and biodiversity loss. It is well worth skimming. Mexico saw its first human case of a bird flu strain, H5N2, in a dead man supposedly with no known previous exposure to animals. Two turkey farms got outbreaks in Minnesota, and Iowa’s first dairy farm reported bird flu as well. American health authorities expect H5N1 human cases to rise in the coming weeks. Bird flu was also found in San Francisco last week. Millions of human vaccine doses for bird flu are being prepared for the United States this summer.

Credit card debt is reportedly rising, and the “personal savings rate” has dropped to pre-COVID levels. “America’s debt accumulation over the last seven years is akin to the costs of a world war,” says the article. Cuts to the Federal Reserve interest rate are coming, and the rise of tariffs is unlikely to stop soon. I’ve seen multiple pitbulls strolling around in Las Vegas casinos this week posing as “service dogs”. I already think it’s weird seeing people push their tiny dogs around in strollers throughout casinos but I’ve never noticed a Pit before in a casino until this week, and now I’ve seen several. Personally I don’t think Casinos should even allow pets unless it’s someone who truly needs a service animal, like a seeing eye dog, but I know they’re not even allowed to ask people. It was so off putting sitting at a gaming table only to see pibbles at the bar about 25 feet away staring intently at our table. I left after a minute it was really unsettling, I’m surprised there hasn’t been an incident yet at one of these casinos.

I've been to the MGM casinos in Vegas a couple times.
Now I'm considering taking my betting online and I thought about BetMGM first. I've seen their ads and it seems to mirror the experience I had at their physical casinos, but I wanted to check in with you all before I deposit.
Has anyone here played on BetMGM? If yes, I'd like to hear your insight on a couple of things:

1. Are they legit, first off?
2. How does their house edge compare to other platforms?
3. I'm also interested in the withdrawal process. Have you had any issues, and how long does it usually take for them to pay out?

Me (M37) and long time friend(M37) had a heated argument over something so petty. I was telling him about this girl I talk to sometimes on social media back and forth that I met a year ago who used to be a sex worker. She hit me up a few weeks ago asking how I been. I told him I see on her social media page she no longer a sex worker. I never actually hung out with her just met once.
He then says “why are you on her page for” “are you desperate”. I said “what do you mean me and the girl are friends on social media and conversate on there”. He says “stop stalking her page you must be desperate man”.
I then lost it and yelled at him that I got better and more women than him. We then argued about who got more women over our life. He then says “I got more money than you” and “you got nothing I want”. He then insults my girlfriend mental health condition . She bipolar. I lost it again and told him instead of gambling in casinos and going to Vegas you should spend that money on all your kids and all your different kids mothers. I said other men are raising your children. We argued and he got mad and hung up.
2 days later he text me saying don’t ever bring up a man kids and that the only reason he ain’t going to fight me is cause he know my family. I said I only said that cause I was defending myself. He said “you got emotional cause I told you the truth to stop stalking that girl”. We argued more and haven’t talked in weeks now.
Should I try to save the friendship or just let things be?

I’m about to go to Las Vegas to play in my first ever WSOP event. I have some questions about the registration process. It is my understanding that if I have funds on deposit, I can use a kiosk to register for an event instead of having to stand in line. I have an account set up on Bravo poker live to which I can send funds this week. My current plan is to play a single $1K event this year. If I’m going to play a 1K event, do I need to just have exactly that amount on deposit? I’m actually taking a few thousand more with me for other gambling. If I send extra to the Bravo poker portal, can I just withdraw the excess? Is that difficult or is it just a matter of going to a particular casino cage or desk and pulling out the funds? if it makes any difference, I’m staying at Paris so I will be close to all of the WSOP activity.

Hello! I’m going to Vegas here shortly for my birthday but my license expires the day after my birthday. This won’t be an issue for TSA since they accept expired licenses up to a year, but how would this work in the bars and casinos? I have a temporary online drivers license since my new drivers license is in the mail. Would I still be accepted into these places with my old ID and temporary ID together or am I just SOL?

Hey there. I'm experiencing a weird bug with FNV. I just finished Fallout 3 and went to New Vegas. Everything worked smoothly but when Doc Mitchell wakes my character up and says ''How did I do?'' (When the character customization menu is supposed to pop up) nothing happens and he's just staring at me. I tried turning off mods and it still happens, So basically I cannot start FNV as the game will softlock itself and all I can do is load an older save or leave the game. Help?
