2024.06.09 14:05 ArmyOfMemories The ADL is an anti-Palestinian hate group that promotes 'replacement theory' in Israel while condemning it in America.

Thesis

Sources:

Elaboration

The ADL promotes 'replacement theory' in Israel, while condemning it in America.
Awhile back, the ADL put out a hasbara handbook - a guide to advocating for Israel.
In the handbook, on pages 59-60, the ADL espouses views that are word-for-word taken from 'replacement theory'.
Excerpt:
A bi-national state, in principle and in practice, would mean the ideological end of the Jewish State of Israel and lead to the forsaking of Jewish nationalism and identity, along with its special status as a refuge for Jews fleeing persecution.
Furthermore, bi-nationalism is unworkable given current realities and historic animosities. With historically high birth rates among the Palestinians, and a possible influx of Palestinian refugees and their descendants now living around the world, Jews would quickly be a minority within a bi-national state, thus likely ending any semblance of equal representation and protections. In this situation, the Jewish population would be increasingly politically – and potentially physically – vulnerable.
It is unrealistic and unacceptable to expect the State of Israel to voluntarily subvert its own sovereign existence and nationalist identity and become a vulnerable minority within what was once its own territory.
  • Alarmism about 'birth rates' = ✅
  • Alarmism about immigration = ✅
  • Alarmism about the demographic majority becoming a minority and losing its privileged status = ✅
  • Equating the privilege of being a demographic majority with 'sovereign existence' (which in-turn negates the existence and/or concerns, agency, progress, etc. of the Out-group) = ✅
All of this is typical 'replacement theory' talking-points.
A commentator on Twitter points out that the ADL uses the same rhetoric as American and European ultra-nationalists, who fear-monger about PoC and immigrants.

The interplay between right-wing nationalism & support for Israel

The ADL's primary purpose now is to defend Israel's apartheid regime.
Note how Rep. Stefanik is pictured in the ADL tweet. She is the one leading the charge right now with these public antisemitism inquisitions of college administrators.
Right-wing nationalists support Israel because they want to emulate Israel's policies towards Palestinians (as a stand-in for immigrants, PoC, leftists, etc.).
A study on European antisemitism found that xenophobes (who rated higher in antisemitism) tend to support Israel due to its immigration policies. Whereas those critical of Israeli policy were less xenophobic & less antisemitic.
Since Zionism is a form of cult-like nationalism, it's no surprise that the ADL would adopt 'replacement theory' talking-points when discussing their concerns about the political agency of the Jewish demographic majority in Israel.
In order to maintain that demographic majority, Israel uses discriminatory legislation & enormous State violence.
A lot of Zionists obfuscate what Zionism means now (for all practical purposes) by signaling some support/empathy for Palestinians. So the primary question one must ask, is whether you support a Jewish demographic majority in Israel.
If the answer is 'yes' - then you're justifying massive discrimination & violence against the Palestinian out-group. It no longer matters what games one plays with the 'definition' of 'Zionist'.
Get straight to the functional point. Are you morally consistent?

The ADL, Mike Pompeo, and the Jewish National Fund

Peter Beinart, in a discussion with FMEP's Lara Friedman & political strategist Rania Batrice, talks about how the ADL supports discriminatory policies in Israel that it would never support in America.
Peter notes that Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the ADL, has to 'code-switch' when advocating for Israel, for this very reason. Whereas, someone like Mike Pompeo, who is also a cultish nationalist, is more forthcoming in what he wants for America (a Christian nationalist State).
For Pompeo, it's perfectly fine to support an analog to the Jewish National Fund (JNF) in America (ie a hypothetical Christian National Fund; an organization that would support land access/development for Christians only). Greenblatt would lose his mind if a CNF existed in America - but he won't propose abolishing the JNF in Israel.
In Israel, the government controls 93 percent of the land¹ - directly or indirectly through quasi-governmental bodies like the Development Authority (DA) or the JNF. But all of it is administered by a governmental body, the Israel Land Administration (ILA).
The JNF's mandate is to develop land folease land to Israeli Jews, so 13% of the land in Israel excludes Palestinian citizens of Israel & everyone else. Thus, when the ILA tenders a lease owned by the JNF, they are directly complicit in "outright discrimination".²
  1. The Israel Land Administration
  2. Human Rights Watch - Off the Map: Land and Housing Rights Violations in Israel’s Unrecognized Bedouin Villages
  3. Human Rights Watch - Israel: Discriminatory Land Policies Hem in Palestinians
Israeli historian at Tel Aviv University, Prof. Gadi Algazi, explains how the Ben-Gurion utilized the 1949 Absentee Property Law to facilitate the JNF acquiring stolen Palestinian land.
Ben-Gurion circumvented any future international legal intervention by 'selling' (absolutely illegally) the land entrusted to the custodians (Ben-Gurion appointed Israel the custodians of the stolen Palestinian land following the 48' War) to the JNF so that Israel, in the case of an international debate, could say 'sorry, it's not in my hands anymore'. Within days, about a million dunams (1M dunams = about 250K acres) of land were sold for a price well below their value to the JNF. Another million would be sold later on.
Then-Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion appointed the Israeli government as custodian of the land and then sold 250,000 acres to the Jewish National Fund. The problem of the Arab refugees was forgotten in the main despite the United Nations trying to resolve it. Ben-Gurion thought that time would eventually solve the problem. The abandoned village land and houses were given to Israeli soldiers so Arabs couldn’t return.
Some speculate the JNF never even paid for the land. Instead, the Israeli government agreed to subsidize the purchase in exchange for assurances the land would be set aside for Jewish settlement.
But the Israeli cabinet ordered the JNF to stop all efforts at buying land from Palestinians directly, and the men returned to Israel.144 Ben Gurion told Weitz and Danin in December 1948 that “The JNF would buy land only from the State. There was no need to buy land from Arabs.”145
[...]One month after Ben Gurion told Weitz that the JNF should buy land only from the state, the two sides finally concluded a major deal by which the JNF would purchase a huge amount of refugee land in January 1949. Despite his mistrust of sharing power with the JNF, Ben Gurion had long wanted to sell captured Palestinian land to the JNF. In fact as early as May 13, 1948, the day before he publicly read Israel’s declaration of independence, Ben Gurion offered to sell a massive 2 million dunums of land to the JNF for £P0.5/dunum. He was trying to sell land he did not yet control to raise money for arms.
  • Fischbach, Michael. Records of Dispossession (Institute for Palestine Studies Series) (pp. 61-63). Columbia University Press. Kindle Edition.
The deal involving the so-called “second million” dunums was finalized on October 4, 1950, and involved the transfer of an additional 1,271,734 dunums by the Custodian of Absentee Property on behalf of the Development Authority to the JNF, 99.8 percent of which (1,271,480 dunums) was rural land. Granott later placed the amount at 1,278,200 dunums. The amount of £I66 million was to be paid to the government over a ten year period. Some sources indicate that the JNF was actually to turn the money over to the Jewish Agency on the government’s behalf; the amount then would be considered a loan by the government to the JA. Others claim that the JNF never actually paid the amounts it owed under the two deals.163
  • Fischbach, Michael. Records of Dispossession (Institute for Palestine Studies Series) (pp. 65-66). Columbia University Press. Kindle Edition.
Thus, Israel confiscated Palestinian land and held it in trust - only to sell it to an organization that would only allow the land to be used (sold/leased/etc.) by Jewish people only.
The JNF faced no such obstacles and was free to discriminate against Arabs in favor of Jews. Its charter mandated that all land that it purchased thereafter would be inalienable, to be held by the JNF on behalf of the Jewish people in perpetuity. Because the JNF could not sell land it acquired, it leased land to Jewish settlements and individual Jews on the condition that it not be re-let to non-Jews and that only Jewish labor be used on the land—the policy of “Hebrew labor” [Heb.: ‘avoda ‘ivrit]. Thus as a nongovernmental organization free to manage its own land on an exclusivist basis within the new state, the JNF argued for its control of refugee land on this ideological base: if the JNF obtains the land, it will be the best way to guarantee that it is used for Jewish settlement only. This attitude was expressed by a JNF official at the 23rd congress of the World Zionist Organization held in 1951, the fiftieth anniversary of the JNF’s establishment, who stated that the JNF “will redeem the lands and will turn them over to the Jewish people—to the people and not the state, which in the current composition of population cannot be an adequate guarantor of Jewish ownership” [emphases in the original].
  • Fischbach, Michael. Records of Dispossession (Institute for Palestine Studies Series) (pp. 59-60). Columbia University Press. Kindle Edition.
It's important to note that all throughout the history of the JNF, its officials openly talked about dispossessing the Palestinian people and taking their land.
In Records of Dispossession, Michael Fischback writes about the culpability of Zionist organizations in the expulsion of the Palestinian people - and singles out one important figure, Yosef Weitz of the JNF.
The question of to what degree Jewish authorities deliberately expelled Palestinians is a hotly contested one.13 For many historians of the Arab-Israeli conflict, the issue comes down to whether Zionist authorities ordered the deliberate expulsion of the Palestinians according to a master plan of ethnic cleansing. It is beyond dispute that some expulsions occurred as it is that, even before the fighting began, various figures in the Zionist movement were actively investigating the idea of what they euphemistically called “transferring” the Palestinians out of the country. One such person was Yosef Weitz of the Jewish National Fund [Heb.: Keren Kayemet le-Yisra’el]. Weitz was born in Russia in 1890 and immigrated to Ottoman Palestine in 1908. He began working for the Jewish National Fund (JNF) in 1918. The JNF was established by the World Zionist Organization [Heb.: ha-Histadrut ha-Tsiyonit; later, ha-Histadrut ha-Tsiyonit ha-‘Olamit] in December 1901 to acquire land in Ottoman Syria for the establishment of a Jewish state. It acquired its first land in Palestine in 1904. In 1907, the JNF was incorporated in London as the Jewish National Fund, Ltd., although its offices were located on the continent and moved several times over the decades. Starting in 1932, Weitz had risen to serve as the director of the JNF’s Land Development Division. He was also involved in the establishment of the Histadrut, the all-encompassing Zionist labor federation.
  • Fischbach, Michael. Records of Dispossession (Institute for Palestine Studies Series) (pp. 4-5). Columbia University Press. Kindle Edition.
Weitz countered with a hard-line vision of transferring the Palestinians completely out of the country. He detailed his ideas in his diary:
It should be clear to us that there is no room in Palestine for these two peoples. No “development” will bring us to our goal of independent nationhood in this small country. Without the Arabs, the land will become wide and spacious for us; with the Arabs, the land will remain sparse and cramped . . . . The only solution is Palestine, at least Western Palestine [i.e., Palestine without Transjordan], without Arabs. There is no room here for compromises!14
Weitz and Lifshits agreed to try to work toward this goal. In fact, in 1948 they served together on a committee that investigated transfer (see below). When the fighting broke out in 1948, Weitz believed that it provided a golden opportunity to effect such a transfer. By the spring of that year, thousands of Palestinians were already in flight and leaving behind large stretches of land. For Weitz, the proper course of action was simple: prevent their return and take over their land. On May 20, 1948, Weitz noted in his diary that the refugee flight would create “a complete territorial revolution . . . . The State is destined to expropriate . . . their land.” 15 Once the fighting was underway, he would move to realize this.

The ADL's history of anti-Palestine activism: the spying case

Historically, the ADL surveilled Arab-American and Jewish-American activists who were sympathetic to the Palestinian struggle.
Excerpt, from a JTA (2002) article on the ADL spying on anti-Zionist Jewish-Americans:
Both sides had filed appeals in July when a San Francisco Superior Court judge dismissed the cases of plaintiffs Anne Poirier and Steven Zeltzer, but not that of Jefferey Blankfort, who claimed the ADL obtained his Social Security number "for nonjournalistic purposes." Because the settlement took place before the appeals came though, the ADL agreed to compensate all three.
Blankfort explains the court case:
In earlier decades, the ADL put out dossiers on pro-Palestine activism with titles like, 'Target U.S.A: The Arab Propaganda Offensive' (1975).
News article coverage from that time, reporting on then-director of the ADL Jerome Bakst's speaking engagement in town.
In the present, the ADL still keeps tabs on pro-Palestine activism & activists like Mohammed El-Kurd.
With so many more Zionist groups now, the ADL no longer has to be a one-stop-shop for all things Israel advocacy. They no longer need to spy on Americans when plenty of other organizations do. They no longer have to profile people, because other Zionist groups like Canary Mission do.
So while the ADL isn't outright spying people as it did years ago, it's not out of some moral shift. It's because they no longer have to.

2024.06.09 04:31 SadPollution8260 This is a wasted generation.

This is USA's golden generation, the best players EVER with most depth ever!
When Jurgen Klinsmann was coach of USMNT they were beating Italy and even giving Germany who was on the verge of winning the world cup a run for their money. I remember, he even got Break Shea to score against italy.
Jurgen had found depth with the limited talent he had to work with.
The current coach has the golden generation and totally sucks. He is the limiting factor. He is out of his depth.
Jurgen was able to use Graham Zusi as a play maker and walmart david beckham, He really understood what players strong points were, the current coach is trash.

2024.06.09 01:47 dontcallmefooboy Story: Emma and the Magic Candies

Disclaimer: I’m not into this stuff, obviously. Also don’t try this at home
On a sunny afternoon in a small, quaint village, a young girl named Emma skipped down the cobblestone streets. Her golden hair glimmered in the sunlight as she hummed a cheerful tune. Emma loved exploring the village, especially the old market square, where vendors sold everything from fresh produce to handmade trinkets.
One particular day, as Emma wandered through the market, she noticed a new stall she hadn't seen before. It was adorned with colorful banners and twinkling lights. The stall was filled with jars of candies in every shape and color imaginable. Intrigued, Emma approached the stall, her eyes wide with wonder.
Behind the stall stood a middle-aged man with a kind smile and twinkling eyes. His hair was peppered with gray, and he wore a long, flowing coat that seemed to shimmer in the light.
"Hello there," the man said warmly. "Would you like to try some of my special candies?"
Emma hesitated for a moment, but the man's friendly demeanor put her at ease. "Yes, please," she replied, her curiosity getting the better of her.
The man reached into one of the jars and pulled out a small, wrapped candy. It was a deep, rich purple, and it seemed to sparkle as he handed it to her. "This candy is very special," he said with a knowing smile. "It will make you feel very good inside."
Emma unwrapped the candy and popped it into her mouth. Instantly, a warm, comforting sensation spread through her body. It felt as if she were wrapped in a cozy blanket on a cold winter's night. She closed her eyes and let out a contented sigh, feeling a deep sense of happiness and peace.
"Wow," she exclaimed, opening her eyes. "This is amazing! What kind of candy is this?"
The man chuckled softly. "It's a magic candy," he explained. "It's made from the essence of joy and comfort. Whenever you're feeling down or need a little pick-me-up, just have one of these candies, and it will make you feel better."
Emma beamed at him, feeling incredibly grateful. "Thank you so much!" she said, her heart overflowing with happiness.
Emma spent the rest of the day exploring the market with a newfound sense of joy. She felt lighter and more carefree than she had in a long time. As she skipped home that evening, she couldn't stop smiling, her heart filled with the warmth of the magic candy and the kindness of the mysterious man.
From that day on, whenever Emma felt sad or overwhelmed, she would take out one of the special candies and let its magic remind her of the joy and comfort she carried within her. And every time, she would think of the kind man and his words, knowing that true happiness was always just a heartbeat away.
Days turned into weeks, and Emma found herself frequently visiting the market square, hoping to catch a glimpse of the candy stall. Each time she did, the middle-aged man was there, his kind smile ever-present. Emma began to rely on the magic candies more and more, savoring the warm, comforting sensation they provided.
At first, she only had a candy when she felt particularly down or stressed. But gradually, she started taking one whenever she felt even the slightest bit uneasy. The magic candies became a daily habit, and Emma couldn't help but crave that feeling of pure happiness and contentment.
Her friends and family began to notice a change in her. Emma seemed more distant, often retreating to her room to indulge in her stash of candies. She stopped playing outside and no longer enjoyed the activities she once loved. Instead, she found solace in the sugary treats that made everything feel perfect.
One evening, Emma's mother knocked on her bedroom door. "Emma, are you okay in there?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.
Emma quickly hid the half-eaten candy under her pillow. "Yes, Mom," she replied, trying to sound cheerful. "I'm just tired."
But her mother wasn't convinced. She entered the room and sat on the edge of Emma's bed. "You've been acting differently lately," she said gently. "Is there something bothering you?"
Emma hesitated, her fingers unconsciously reaching for another candy. She didn't want to worry her mother, but the thought of giving up the magic candies was unbearable. "I'm fine, really," she insisted, forcing a smile.
Her mother sighed, clearly not convinced but deciding not to press further. "Just remember, you can always talk to me," she said before leaving the room.
As the weeks passed, Emma's dependence on the candies grew. She found herself needing more and more to achieve the same level of happiness. She began to worry about running out, so she would sneak out at night to visit the market stall, buying as many candies as she could carry. The middle-aged man always greeted her with the same knowing smile, never questioning her increasing purchases.
One night, as she hurried back home with her latest haul, she bumped into an old woman who lived in the village. The woman looked at the bag of candies in Emma's hand and shook her head sadly.
"Be careful, child," the woman warned. "Too much of anything, even magic, can be dangerous."
Emma nodded politely but dismissed the woman's words. She couldn't imagine life without the candies now; they had become her escape, her comfort.
But the old woman's words lingered in Emma's mind. One morning, she woke up feeling strangely empty despite having eaten several candies the night before. The candies no longer provided the same joy and comfort they once had. Desperate, she ate more and more, but the feeling never returned.
Panicking, Emma rushed to the market square, but to her dismay, the candy stall was gone. She searched frantically, asking vendors if they had seen the man, but no one knew where he had disappeared to.
Days turned into a blur of withdrawal and sadness. Emma felt lost and empty without the candies. She had relied on them so much that she had forgotten how to find happiness within herself. It took weeks of struggle and support from her family to begin to rediscover the simple joys she had once cherished.
In time, Emma learned to live without the magic candies. She realized that true happiness couldn't be found in a quick fix; it had to be nurtured from within. The journey was hard, but it taught her resilience and the value of genuine connections with those around her.
Years later, Emma often thought about the kind man and his magical candies. She remembered the initial warmth and comfort they brought, but she also understood the dangers of relying too heavily on something external for happiness. The experience left her wiser and more self-aware, and she carried those lessons with her as she grew.

2024.06.08 19:38 Key-Tip-7521 Edmonton Oilers v. Florida Panthers Facts

Okay folks, I did this last year w/that final. Now, I will be doing it for this year's final. This is, once again, going to be a historic moment in Seattle Kraken Edmonton Oilers or Florida Panthers History. Seriously, it will be a historical one for the league. So, here's what can happen below:
For Both Teams
If Florida Wins
If Edmonton Wins
I could go on. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. But this is going to be historic.

2024.06.08 17:18 Golden_Pineapple07 In your opinion, does my OCs choice make sense?

Here's my first chapter draft so far. It shows the inciting incident that truly starts Akaris' story aswell as her reaction to it and choice as to how to move onwards. If you have any questions let me know, I just want to know if her thought process makes sense:
I really didn't mean to get caught up in a mission to kill the symbol of peace! Seriously, you misjudge a situation, one thing leads to another and you end up caught up in a web that's bigger than you know!
“So we're in agreement?” Asked the guy with a shit ton of hands stuck to him. “You'll get your classmates' quirks within the week?”
‘What choice do I have?’ I thought as I watched him disintegrate the cup he was holding.
“Yes, within the week.”
“Good, good,” he said before scratching his neck again. “Well that will be all then.”
And then, I did the most shocking thing I think i've ever done; I walked out that bar with all my limbs intact and my heart beating.
Honestly, when I realised what I got myself into, I thought I was a dead girl walking, afterall, not many villains would simply let go the daughter of Endeavor, but them? They let me leave, and honestly I was thankful. Yes I have training, yes I have a powerful quirk however I am also quite intelligent, intelligent enough to know that if I were up against a bar full of villains, I would not make it out alive.
‘Now what?’ I thought, and honestly I had no clue! I had just agreed to be a spy, for a group of villains no less!
“Akari, hey, where are you?” A worried yet familiar voice called.
‘Oh shit, Natsuo.’ I thought, biting my lip.
My whole body trembled as the adrenaline rush I was subjected to wore off. I thought about going back to Natsuo, however if he saw me in such a state he would know something was off.
‘Looks like I'll take the long way home.’ I thought, reaching for my phone. I then texted Natsuo, telling him I was fine and that I would meet him at home. I expected that to be the end of it, however, he didn't share that thought.
“Where the hell did you go? I looked away for like, one second!” Natsuo screamed down the phone. I winced.
“Just thought… I saw a cat, it's not a big deal.”
“Not a big deal?! I thought you were hurt—”
“I keep on telling you, you don't need to worry! I'm fine honestly,” I said with some laughter. “I'll meet you at home, alright?”
There was a brief interval of silence, and then a sigh.
“Fine, fine, just get home soon okay?”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Then I hung up with a sigh.
I expect you want to know how I got into this situation to begin with, huh?
Well, I certainly didn't see a cat that's for sure.
Natsuo convinced me to spend the day with him instead of completing my independent training. He insisted I needed a break from my UA preparations and wouldn't leave me alone until I agreed, so that I did, with him by my side, I wasn't able to get much work done anyway.
He tried to do the same thing with Shouto, however, since our brother isn't that talkative, he just ignored Natsuos attempts and was somehow able to work despite the pestering.
Fuyumi wanted to come, however she had work.
So, we started by going to the arcade, which I'll have to admit was rather fun. It was my first time there, which Natsuo thought was devastating. Regardless, I won a couple games and brought some lollipops that make your tongue change colour with my tickets.
Next, we went to a few shops and just messed around. Anyways let's skip to the main event.
Me and Natsuo were walking down the street and minding our own business when I saw some action in a nearby alleyway, a man stealing a woman's bag, and, well, I guess you can say instinct kicked in.
Without giving me the chance to alert Natsuo, my body moved with my permission.
Next thing I knew, I was in the alleyway. My foot collided with a mans stomach, sending him to the ground. He looked up at me, shocked with the bag clasped in his hand.
Blood dripped down his temple, and his skin was purple and blue.
‘Perhaps he had a run in with a pro…’ I thought.
He opened his mouth to speak however I kicked him again, thinking it could release his quirk. Then, I used my own power on the bag, connecting with it.
Tugging it away from the man's grasp felt like I was moving one of my limbs.
He scurried upwards and ran down the alleyway.
‘I doubt he will get far.’ I thought, before turning to the woman, who was smirking.
“Here's your bag.” I said, passing it to her. My hood fell off.
‘Damn, now she'll recognise me…’
“Wow, daughter of a hero, helping a villain, how brilliant!” She exclaimed, swinging the bag over her shoulder.
For a second, it felt like the whole world stopped spinning as my mistake sunk in.
‘I have majorly misread this situation.’ I thought.
“So, choosing another pathway huh? Well, I have, or rather some guy has a brilliant job you may be interested in.” She exclaimed.
“Oh sure, let's hear it.”
Honestly I was unsure as hell at first. I wanted to make an excuse and run but I knew there was a chance it wouldn't go down well.
“Basically, this is top secret so you gotta stay quiet kid, else I'll get in alot of shit, understood?” She said in an upbeat tone, however I could see the threat lying beneath.
I nodded in response.
“Good, good, so there's this guy, Shigi…something, he has a plan to kill All Might but he needs a big group. There's a meeting down that dump of a bar down the road in like ten minutes you should come!”
So, I pulled my hood up and did just that.
That day, while I was taking the long route home, I came to the pretty obvious conclusion that I couldn't allow the attack on All Might to happen.
Yes, I thought about telling the pros however it was too risky. If the villains caught on, then I wouldn't make it to next week, then who would be left to gather intel from the inside? I couldn't do that if I was a pile of dust!
Plus, it had been me that had majorly fucked.
‘I assume by now the civilian has gotten help, it's quite possible he didn't notice who I was even so… nobody is going to believe him.’ I thought with a sigh. It was sad but it was the truth. ‘Plus, I want to be a hero. The public finding out about my mistake would be a setback for sure even if I explained my point of view. I'll make up for it myself.’ I thought.
Guilt rotted away within me. I felt selfish however if the heroes found out, then they wouldn't allow me to grab any intel meaning there would be no chance to prevent what was to come! As I had already gathered, telling them was out of the question.
‘It's for the better.’ I thought.

Before the first day I had a while to get my head clear and to form a proper plan. If you thought I was just going to give them intel and mindlessly let them plan the death of All Might, you're insane.
So, I concluded that while I had no choice but to give them the first round of intel about my classmates' quirks due to the fact I needed them to trust me, whatever they asked me to do next I could possibly play around with. I also figured out that somehow, the quirks of my classmates were linked to their plan to destroy All Might. Also, whatever their plan was, they needed a big group of people to go through with it… Or perhaps just a big choice of quirks.
‘Maybe an ambush?’ I thought as I kicked my legs back and forth. I had travelled to Seketo Peak, the spot I used for private training.
Shouto never used his fire nowadays so practising manipulating his fire during our training hours was out of the question. I had access to Endeavors, sure, but it wasn't the same.
I sighed, looking at the flame dancing upon my lighter before flicking it away.
‘I'm getting sidetracked… maybe it's an ambush during a lecture which my classmates will attend or perhaps they're looking to take advantage of my classmates by holding them as bait or… Getting them to do the job for them.’ I sighed, swinging so I was hanging from the branch upside down before pulling myself up, grabbing the branch and switching so I was hanging from my hands.
I had done this exercise many times, yet this time my joints hurt a bit more than usual.
‘Dad was pretty hard during training today…’
I let go of the branch, landing on the grass below.
‘Maybe… maybe I should tell him and the heroes…’ I thought, but then I remembered the careless mistake I made. Thinking of my Dad's reaction made me cringe, as well as thinking about the face of the civilian I attacked.
‘I completely forgot about him… I hope he's alright,’ I thought. ‘Surely someone would've found him and I doubt he would know my actual identity, my hair was covered afterall.’
I bit my lip as I walked down the hill towards the house.
‘I’ll make up for my mistake by figuring this out alone.’

‘I guess I'm really doing this huh?’ I thought as I walked through the giant doors of my new classroom, banging right into someone.
“Shit sorry—”
His red eyes clashed with my golden ones, and then, his face twisted into anger.
“Hey you better watch where you're going extra!”
“You should restrain from talking to a fellow classmate like that!” A blue haired boy exclaimed.
“Alright, alright, calm down, I really didn't mean to!” I said, rolling my eyes.
“Don't talk to me like that—”
“You started it—”
“I'm not the one being a clumsy idiot—”
“Dude, you were standing right by the door, what did you expect?!”
“That a future hero would—”
“Woah, woah, woah, hey calm down dudes, how about we start with hello, how are you, my name is, perhaps?” A red haired guy exclaimed.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.” The loud blonde said, walking off.
“You know that guy?” I asked.
“Not really but he was like that during the entrance exam as well… wait, your Endeavors daughter, right?”
“Yeah, that's me.”
And suddenly all eyes were on herself and Shouto.
“Oh my god, Endeavors kids?!”
“Wow!”
“That's so cool!”

2024.06.08 17:17 Golden_Pineapple07 In your opinion, does my OCs choice make sense?

2024.06.08 17:15 Texicans73 Making memories and a bonus TX Pompano

Making memories and a bonus TX Pompano
Summer visit to Houston area gave me and my 9yr old son reason to hit Surfside Beach TX. Made a trial surf fishing run two afternoons prior to shake down gear before a sunrise effort. Yesterday we made our earnest effort and arrived at Surfside at first light 5:50AM, about 1hr before high tide. As we drove on to the beach, I again explained that we were looking for cuts in the sand bar where the wave breaks were flat. First obvious choice was camped on over night by two nice surf truck rigs, second spot was being waded. We saw what looked like a decent hole and decided to not waste time. Parked and got my son rigged up with a self tied two drop rig, #1 circle hooks and 2oz pyramid with shrimp and crab fishbites and a sand spike. I cast him out to that hole just in front of 2nd sand bar and he immediately hooked up a tank of a whiting. Then he repeated the feat with another hoss of a Whiting, then followed by a hardhead. He's 9 and it was only his 2nd day surf fishing with very limited fish handling before so I'm helping land these fish(we live in Dallas). It's now 6:20 and I've only got his one line in the water. I'm putting my rod together and then I hear him yell with excitement, he's on another fish but it's bigger. Look over and his new Daiwa 8' Emcast is doubled over hard. He'd hooked a small Black Tip shark. Get the shark to the sand. Got lucky that the line didn't cut off. Quick pic, set up again and get him back out. Now about 6:30AM... bam a second black tip shark(he got cut off by two more sharks that day).
That was the pattern of the morning. Me trying to get my line in the water while my son keeps hooking fish... Whiting, catfish, sharks, small black drum, croakers, and baby Redfish for the full day. By the time I'd finally got a line wet, he'd landed seven fish. I finally got rigged and started landing Whiting, slimey catfish, small Redfish (rat reds), and eventually my bonus small Pompano (for scale that's a 1/0 circle hook in pic). Threw the Pompano back to grow some more. As we were about ready to call it a late morning, a guy offered us his remaining live shrimp just as the cut bait was exhausted. The shrimp extended our day and catches. In total, my son out fished me 2:1 and landed at least +22 fish we lost count. The hole I set him up on and the first cut were holding fish(not just catfish) that morning. Just 10-15yards over and my action was much slower. My son finished the day cutting and hooking his own bait, casting his new rod with decent form (thanks to 3 seasons of lacrosse), landing and unhooking his own fish, and returning the fish to the water. If he'd only caught zero fish it'd been worth the effort and a memory made because that's fishing, but the extra fish gave him reps and confidence to do everything himself... and I got to end the day a proud dad with my own first rare TX Pompano.
Final kid gear note: Circle hooks are the way to go for kids. Read that on this sub and it was golden advice. Only one foul hook from a greedy catfish all day with an inexperienced fisherkid.
During the shake down run, it was clear that a 7' Daiwa Beefstick was going to cast well for my son. I'd considered a second 9'-10' rod, but felt it would be too heavy and fast for a 9yr old. Found a Daiwa Emcast MHF at Fishing Tackle Unlimited for $80. More than I wanted to spend, and there are better surf rods for the money, but the minimal grip size on the two piece made the rod light weight and a perfect fit for smaller youth hands. Loaded with 2oz weight and light bait, it readily loaded and cast well. The 8' MHF Emcast balanced perfectly with my Penn Pursuit III 4000 reel with 20# braid. There's no way a heavier weight budget surf rod was going to work for my son. He'd have been tired out way earlier. The lighter weight extended this kids fishing day.

There are many different types of German beer, each with its unique taste and reputation. At the same time, some might only be familiar with the most well-known German beers, and they're Hefeweizen or Rauchbier; plenty of other varieties may be worth a try.
However, if you're looking to expand your horizons in the world of beer, here's a rundown of several types of German beer you should check out during your next trip to Germany.

Beer in German culture

For a long time, beer was considered a food source in Germany. The Bavarian Purity Law from 1516 stated that only barley, hops, and water could be used in brewing beer, and no other additives or flavorings were allowed.
These simple ingredients led to clean-tasting drinks that took on local characteristics depending on the brewed region. But it wasn't until much later that different types of German beer became as common as they are today.
For instance, not until 1955 did Dortmund export its first-ever batch of Helles. An amber-colored lager was similar to American-style beers like Budweiser. While pilsners have been around since 1842, pale ales weren't created until 1871.
And it wasn't until after World War II that dark beers started becoming popular among Germans. Today there are over 1,000 breweries in Germany, producing more than 5,000 different types of beer. If you want to try them all (or some), here is a list of some of the most common ones.

History of beer in Germany

Whether you're visiting Germany for Oktoberfest or some authentic German cuisine, you'll want to order a beer (or two). Be warned, and not all beers are created equal.
There are different types of German beer. Ask an American what kind of beer they think is commonly served in Germany. They will likely say Budweiser.
While it is true that America and Germany consume nearly identical amounts of Budweiser per capita, that doesn't mean other brands aren't more popular in Germany.
The truth is that Germans love their beer. The average German drinks around 120 liters of beer each year, translating into about 1 liter per day.
It's no wonder that there are so many different kinds of German beer. Here's a list of some common ones.

Different Types of German Beer

Radeberger Pils

A pilsner is a beer brewed using only pale malt and hops. While many of these different types of German beer can taste bitter, Radeberger Pils does not, and it has a very light flavor that's perfect for summer drinking.
If you're looking for something bolder, try Bavarian Kindl Dark Lager. This robust beer combines a full-bodied taste with a smooth finish.

Altbier

If you're ready for something different, try different German beer types. These brews were traditionally made in northern Germany using alternate top-fermenting yeast, known as alt or old beers.
The best thing about these beers is that they're stronger than other German beer varieties and go great with spicy meals. If you can find any at your local bar or restaurant, give it a try, and you won't be disappointed!

Pilsner, Helles

Pilsner-style beer is part of the different types of German beer that originated in what is now the Czech Republic.
And was initially brought by brewers from nearby Bavaria, Germany. This style is characterized by its pale golden color, a light hoppy taste, and crisp finish.
A classic pilsner will have less than 5% alcohol per volume (ABV). If you're not used to heavier beers, it may be best to start with a pilsner.
Although they are known for their mildness (which can be good or bad). They're also not as filling as darker beers like an Oktoberfest or a stout. Like all beers, pilsners pair well with food—especially seafood dishes like oysters or trout!

Traditional Bock, Maibock

Bock is a lager typically brewed in Germany and Austria. It has a dark amber color and malt-forward flavor. These different types of German beer, like bocks, can taste almost like sweet or wine-like ales.
The only problem? They're also strong: Most weigh in at around 6 percent alcohol by volume (ABV). For example, Ayinger's Celebrator Bock weighs in at 8.3 percent ABV; Kulmbacher Reichelbräu Eisbock clocks in at 13 percent ABV; that's strong enough to knock your socks off! You'll often find bocks served with a dollop of fresh cream or sugar syrup on top to add another layer of sweetness.

Oktoberfest / Märzen, Dunkel

These beers are top-fermented, amber in color, and brewed from August to October (the time when barley ripens). Oktoberfest originates from Munich's famous beer festival, held every year in September.
Regarding the different types of German beer, Germans stick with what they know best. The two best-known lagers in Germany are Märzen and Oktoberfest.
Moreover, they tend towards an amber hue with a pleasant malty flavor, and they will be more flavorful than typical American lagers like Budweiser or Coors.
These are less likely to be found outside Germany than other styles, though some breweries have exported them for years.

Schwarzbier

Originally from northern Germany, schwarzbier is a dark beer hoppy with notes of chocolate. This style—which translates to black beer—was initially considered poor man's beer since it was less expensive than ales.
Since then, craft brewers have shone to schwarzbier and brew it in many different variations. While stouts (like Guinness) are typically made with roasted barley, unlike the different types of German beer, schwarzbier is brewed with roasted malts.
These malts give schwarzbier its smoky taste, which comes through exceptionally well when served cold.

Rauchbier

A beer style dating back to medieval Germany, Rauchbier (which translates roughly as smoke beer) is brewed using malt dried over an open flame, and the technique lends a smoky flavor and aroma.
This particular type of German beer is popular in Bamberg, a city in Bavaria known for its breweries and annual Rauchbier festival.
Sample classic and inventive versions from breweries like Schlenkerla, Spezial, and Füchschen at your local beer-focused bar or craft beer store.

Doppelbock

A Doppelbock (double bock) is a dark beer that originated in Bavaria, Germany, and it's also part of the different types of German beer.
It's often sold during Lent, when many Germans choose not to drink. But unlike other beers considered liquid bread or liquid nourishment, double bocks aren't thirst-quenching; they're meant for celebration.
Doppelbocks tend to be full-bodied with notes of caramel and fruits and hints of chocolate and coffee. One of our favorites: Ayinger Celebrator! At 8% ABV, it's a doozy. Another favorite? Einbecker Mai-Urbock—it's been described as incredibly smooth with notes of raisins and vanilla.

Kölsch

Kölsch is one of Germany's top-fermented beers. It is named after Cologne, or Köln, where it was invented. The beer is a bit hoppier than most different types of German beer in Germany, with fruity aromas from its use of pale malts.
It also uses a top-fermenting yeast strain, meaning it has low amounts of sulfur compared to other styles. If you enjoy hefeweizens for their banana and clove flavors (kettle-soured) and tartness, kölsch could be an exciting choice.

Weissbier

If you want a refreshing and crisp beer from the different types of German beer, Weissbier is your go-to. There are several types of Weissbier: Hefeweizen, which has been around for over 500 years, Dunkelweizen (or dark Weiss), which has been brewed in Bavaria since at least 1393 and Kristallweizen (or clear Weiss), which was introduced in 1997.
The reason behind its creation? Lighter wheat beers weren't suitable for year-round consumption because they didn't stay fresh during warmer months.
Weissbiers are brewed using more than 50% malted wheat and are low in hop bitterness, making them great summer beers. Unlike most ales, they're not stored or aged with yeast, so you can enjoy a cold one anytime!

Lager

Lagers are the most popular beer style among the different types of German beer in Germany; lagers are light-colored, full-bodied beers with low hop content.
The yeast used to make Lagers ferment at lower temperatures than ales. They're stored at room temperature until they're served or packaged despite their name.
Also, they're often associated with bland domestic beer in America. Still, American craft brewers have been experimenting with them as well: Sierra Nevada's Kellerweis and Sam Adams' White Lantern are examples of good American Lagers.

Erdinger Kristall

This is one of my favorite beers to drink on a hot summer day. It has a lot of flavors, and it's not too strong, making it perfect for sipping outside on a beautiful day.
All their beers have fruity undertones and are refreshing, but some are stronger than others. Erdinger is one that you can drink all afternoon without getting thoroughly buzzed!
Meanwhile, If you're looking for something with a little more kick, try Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel. I've never tried anything like it before - it's got an earthy taste that goes down smooth and doesn't give me any hangover symptoms (which means I can enjoy another beer or two later in the evening).
The main difference between these two beers is strength - Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel is much stronger than Erdinger Kristall.
If you're looking for something light and fruity among the different types of German beer, go with Erdinger Kristall; if you want something with more body and character, choose Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel instead.

Märzen

A Märzen is a German lager created for special occasions, notably Oktoberfest. Märzen (or Oktoberfestbier) is brewed in March and is meant to be enjoyed from September through October.
Typically, it's amber-colored with a malty aroma. While you can enjoy a pint any time of year, drinking it around its appropriate season will give you an authentic experience. Prost!
Conclusion
Now that you know about these different types of German beer, it's time to take your taste buds on tour. Stop by one of these breweries, or head out for an authentic Oktoberfest! Remember: lots and lots of beer is fine, but don't forget your designated driver. After all, we want you safe while enjoying your new favorite brews.

2024.06.08 14:00 Cailly_Brard7 Buffy The Vampire Slayer has aged incredibly well

Buffy is an American series that came out in 1997 and ended in 2003, but having watched the entire series many times now, I've come to realize just how much it has aged. The series is considered, alongside The Sopranos, to be the show that paved the way for “The Golden Age Of TV”, “[1999] was a year when I wasn't yet a professional TV critic, just a woman, standing in front of a TV show, begging everyone to like it. Every week, I watched The Sopranos and Buffy the Vampire Slayer; I was a die-hard fan of both, convinced that David Chase, creator of The Sopranos, and Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy, were making something radical and revolutionary out of television, the former by deconstructing the mobster genre (as well as capitalism and psychotherapy), the latter by forging a mythic, feminist blend of horror, comedy and teen drama. "says Emily Nussbaum in 2014. 1999 saw the television debut of The Sopranos and the broadcast of the wonderful Buffy season 3. Watching the series now, it still seems to retain its originality. Many teen series mixed with the supernatural have tried to achieve the same level of writing without ever really succeeding.
While the series is often cited as having created the TV “tropes” often seen in teen series, Buffy creates brilliant character developments, subduing its own tropes. As for the special effects, sure they're a bit out of date, but some of them are precisely what make the series so charming, especially if you can find a way to watch them in 4:3. The dialogue is intelligent and magnetic. Seasons 2, 3 and 5 are among the best seasons ever seen on television, with innovative episodes and concepts. For example, some series have tried to reproduce the Angelus arc (e.g. Legacies features the character Hope sleeping with her first love, Landon, for the first time, and he disappears because the two aren't meant to be together due to the Malivore thing or in The Secret Circle when the protagonist Cassie sleeps with her lover but a curse hangs over their families or something like that) despite all these attempts, none of these storylines have reached the level of genius of the last arc of season 2. It's also hard to find a female protagonist as well-written as Sarah Michelle Gellar's Buffy Summers these days. If you take a look at the Youtube reactions to this series, you'll see that many things about it are still original and innovative.
If Buffy The Vampire Slayer were released on Netflix these days, it would surely be in the Top 10 after 2 days.

2024.06.08 13:36 monkaSman The Hercules Hold Records: What is the Hercules Hold

Although modern humanity will likely never encounter the trials of strength and stamina faced by the mythical demigod Hercules himself, one competition, originating from the world of Strongman sports, replicates the essence of Herculean challenges. This is none other than the “Hercules Hold.”
The Seeds of Hercules Hold History
The Hercules Hold has its roots in the blood, sweat, and iron of Strongman competitions. To truly understand this event, one must peer back into the annals of history. The sport’s origins are as diverse as its participants, with many cultures having their iterations of athletes displaying their physical prowess, from the ancient Highland Games in Scotland to primitive weightlifting in early civilizations.
The modern iteration of the Hercules Hold is a reinterpretation of these age-old contests. Participants must maintain the hold over two hinged pillars, designed to pull away with increasing force, simulating Hercules’s strain in holding apart two mythological beasts. Over time, it evolved into a fan favorite due to its tremendous display of strength and endurance, concepts central to the spirit of Strongman events.
Understanding the Hercules Hold Mechanics
Today’s Hercules Hold is all about a test of grip strength and mental resolve. Athletes stand between two hinged pillars or handles, held arm’s length away from the body. The handles are then released, and slowly but surely, gravity starts pulling them apart. The objective? Hold on as long as possible, grin, and bear the intense strain.
Just possessing brute strength isn’t enough to triumph in this event. It is a test of mind echoing the ancient hero’s resolve. The load on each handle can be up to 350 pounds, and the strongest can withstand it for around a minute – a ticking clock that is both incredibly swift and agonizingly slow to the contenders.
Training for the Showdown for Hercules Hold
Achieving incredible strength and endurance in Hercules Hold requires focused training, strategic approaches, and persistent dedication. Participants must develop a comprehensive strength-building regimen targeting essential muscle groups and building mental resilience. Here are some essential training components for the Hercules Hold:
Grip strength: Central to Hercules Hold, competitors must develop a strong grip through exercises such as towel pull-ups, dead hangs, and fat-grip implements, in addition to the main gripping exercises mentioned above.
Shoulder stability: Exercises such as overhead presses, face pulls, and rotator cuff variations are crucial for building robust shoulders while maintaining joint health. Strong and stable shoulders serve as the foundation for enduring the forces exerted by the Hercules Hold.
Core training: A strong core allows athletes to maintain their balance and body stability during the event. Exercises like planks, cable rotations, and hanging leg raises are important components of preparing for the Hercules Hold challenge.
Large compound lifts: Total body strength is crucial for strongman events. Including compound lifts such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses, and Olympic lifts in a training program supports overall strength development and contributes to specific performance improvements in Hercules Hold.
Mental preparation: Embracing adversity and building mental toughness is essential for overcoming the physical demands of the Hercules Hold. Visualization, goal setting, and mental techniques like mindfulness can help athletes develop the necessary mental strength to endure the event.
Cardiovascular conditioning: Although Hercules Hold primarily tests musculoskeletal strength, having better cardiovascular fitness allows athletes to recover quicker between attempts and maintain composure during the hold. Incorporating both low-impact steady-state (LISS) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) helps maximize recovery and performance.
Mobility and flexibility training: Maintaining healthy joints for optimal range of motion is crucial to prevent injuries and ensure peak performance. Including stretching and mobility exercises as part of the training program helps safeguard the competitors from potential setbacks.
Safety should be a top priority during training. Competitors must use proper lifting techniques, mobility drills, and progressive overloading to ease into their training and minimize the risk of injuries. Building strength focuses on incremental improvements, and a cautious approach is vital to achieve lasting strength gains.
The Apotheosis of Holds: World Records
Now, let’s look at the stories of the two record-setting titans: Mark Felix, and Laurence Shahlaei.
mark felix hercules hold
Mark Felix: A Deep Dive into His Legacy, Hercules Hold, and other Achievements
Early Life
Birthplace: Born on April 17, 1966, Mark Felix spent his early years growing up in the lively town of St. George’s, Grenada.
Migration: At the pivotal age of 23, seeking better prospects, he made a big leap and emigrated to Rishton, Lancashire in England.
Initial Expertise: Before strongman contests, Felix was dedicated to bodybuilding. Bodybuilding laid down his base, establishing a solid foundation of strength, discipline, and commitment, all of which were instrumental for his future calling.

Trials of Titans: Training and Diet for Hercules Hold
Each record holder’s journey to the zenith of this event involves a meticulously planned training regime, a disciplined diet, and, in some cases, performance enhancers.
Mark Felix Workout & Diet for Hercules Hold Events:
Workout Frequency: As a professional strongman, Felix’s training would typically range from 4-6 days per week depending on where he stands in the competition season. Off-season might involve less frequent but heavier sessions, while pre-competition periods could include more frequent but varied training for conditioning.
Routine: A strongman’s routine involves a mix of compound movements like squats, deadlifts, and presses, each performed for 3-5 sets of 3-8 reps to build maximal strength. Felix might integrate specific strongman events training, like farmer’s walks or atlas stones, into his weekly routine.
Grip Training: Mark’s unparalleled grip strength training likely revolves around heavy carries, holds, and pulling exercises with thick handles to mimic the grip challenges of competition. High-rep sets and timed holds could be frequent in his regimen.
Diet: To fuel such intense workouts, strongmen consume upwards of 5,000-10,000 calories per day, split across multiple meals rich in protein (meats, fish, eggs), complex carbohydrates (rice, potatoes, oats), and healthy fats (nuts, avocado, oils), with vegetables providing necessary vitamins and fiber.
Recovery: Active recovery such as mobility work, light cardio, and stretching, as well as passive recovery methods like massages, ice baths, and sufficient sleep, would be crucial to Felix’s ability to train consistently.
Laurence Shahlaei and his Training Before Hercules Hold Contest:
Training Split: Laurence would have likely adhered to a training split that targeted different muscle groups and strongman events across the week, ensuring ample recovery time for each muscle group.
Cardio and Conditioning: His regimen would include cardio and conditioning work like prowler pushes and sled drags, aimed at maintaining the endurance needed for competition events like the Car Walk.
Volume and Intensity: Training would likely alternate between periods of high volume (more reps, lighter weights) and high intensity (heavier weights, fewer reps) to build both muscle endurance and peak strength.
Dietary Regimen: Shahlaei’s diet would be meticulously designed to support both weight management and muscle gain, with a focus on lean proteins, carbohydrates timed around workouts for energy, and healthy fats for hormonal balance and inflammation control.
Recovery and Physiotherapy: As a strongman and a personal trainer, Shahlaei understands the importance of recovery, likely incorporating active rest days, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation exercises into his routine, especially after sustaining injuries throughout his career.
Steroid Usage of Hercules Record Holders
While there is no publicly available evidence or confession regarding steroid usage by these bodybuilders, many speculate that due to the immense pressure and competitiveness at the professional level, they might have used performance-enhancing drugs to gain an advantage.
Mark Felix Steroid Cycle
According to the opinion of pro bodybuilders and fitness experts, Mark Felix might follow a steroid cycle similar to the following:
Testosterone Cypionate: 500-750 mg per week
Deca Durabolin: 300-500 mg per week
Dianabol: 30-50 mg per day
Human Growth Hormone (HGH): 4-6 IU per day
Anastrozole: 0.5-1 mg every other day
It is essential to remember that these are purely speculative and not confirmed by Mark Felix or any official sources.
Laurence Shahlaei Steroid Cycle
Like many professional athletes at the top echelons of their sport, Shahlaei may face speculation about steroid usage or performance-enhancing drugs to maintain a competitive edge.
According to the opinion of pro bodybuilders and fitness experts, Laurence Shahlaei might follow a steroid cycle similar to the following:
Testosterone Propionate: 400-600 mg per week
Trenbolone Acetate: 300-400 mg per week
Equipoise (Boldenone Undecylenate): 200-400 mg per week
Anadrol: 50-100 mg per day
Arimidex: 0.5-1 mg every other day
Again, it is important to note that these steroid cycles are speculative and not verified by Laurence Shahlaei or any official sources.

Tapping her clawed finger against her arm Kica looked at the corpse with an expression of pondering,” I’m not sure what else I can even ask. I’ve learned so much more than I ever thought I’d know.”
“Yes, Aloko agreed. “And a lot of what you are saying. I’m finding it far easier to follow now. Though I have to admit, teacher, I just don’t quite understand all yet.”
“No need to fret, Kenneth reassured them as he dried his gloved hands. “It took me almost a decade to become a healer.”
“A decade!” Kica and Aloko exclaimed.
“Well, technically, not a decade, Kenneth responded. “You finish your education after four years, but you still have to learn from someone with experience and eventually stand on your own two legs.”
“URG…! Is that how long I have to listen to you!” Pilu.
“Luckily for both of us, it won’t take that long, Kenneth replied. “As much as I want, I can’t give a specific timeframe, but it will be far sooner now that Kica and Aloko seem to have gained a better understanding of anatomy.”
“Umm… Kenneth, Kica said while staring at the Nok’s internal workings. “Is this understanding I’m supposed to get the same that allowed your kind to put an arm back on someone without killing them?”
“Yes, without understanding the body to the extent I do, such a thing would have been impossible, Kenneth answered. “Actually, after having thought about it for a bit, I’ve come up with a theory for why healing using magic doesn’t work that well with severed appendages.”
“A theory?” Kica repeated, tilting her head.
“Well, do you remember that time you healed Kila?” Kenneth asked.
“Which one? Kica questioned. “Kila and Fenik come to get healed by me rather often.”
“Right… well, It was after we returned with the blue flower bush, and you healed Kila’s leg, Kenneth reminded her. “You fixed it, but his knee was still a bit dislocated.
“So if healing doesn’t put everything back perfectly, then it stands to reason if you tried to reattach a severed arm and it wasn’t perfectly aligned down to the millimeter, it could be healed wrong.”
“More shit out of your mouth, Pilu interjected in an annoyed tone of voice. “How can you heal wrong… No, wait, I don’t actually care.”
“I-I don’t understand what you are saying, Kica said as she stared at her glowing hands. “Am I not just making wounds disappear.”
“At first, I thought the same, but after seeing you heal Wilf’s bones, I began to rethink that. Kenneth said, much to the confusion of everyone in the room. “The crack between the halves of the bone didn’t just disappear; It looked like they just naturally grew back together in a matter of seconds.
“If I had to guess, I think you are actually just speeding up the body's natural healing process.”
Becoming silent, Kica’s eyes grew distant and thoughtful. “I never thought of it that way, but didn’t you say your kind didn’t have magic?”
“Well, yes, my kind doesn’t, but that doesn’t stop us from imagining what it would be like to have it, Kenneth replied. “Of course, everything I just told you regarding magic comes from someone who has very little knowledge himself.
”For all I know, I could be completely wrong, but it was just how it looked to me.”
“Even so, Kica responded. “I’ve never thought about my ability to heal in such a way as you described. ”
“Yes, Aloko agreed. “Honestly, I’ve never thought much about what we can all do.”
“Well, you have all the time in the world to ponder, but I think we should call it a day for now, Kenneth recommended. “I don’t know when lunch is ready, but I’d like to finish up here before that.”
“Finally! Pilu rejoiced. “You both heard the black healer. Out.”
Neither Aloko nor Kica had any more questions to ask Kenneth, and so both left feeling exhausted yet filled with a new sense of understanding that they hadn’t had before.
Standing alone in the room, Kenneth took a deep breath and turned to the corpse, thinking, ‘Well, I’ve taken you apart and learned all that I could. Now I think it’s time I put you back together.’
Reinserting the Nok’s organs into the right position proved not to be an issue; however, it was when Kenneth tried to suture the gaping hole. The hardened scales that the Nok possessed proved to be far more difficult to pierce with a needle than he had at first thought.
At best, he could only stitch the flesh between the scales, but no matter how he looked at it or what method he used, such a thing wouldn’t work in a real situation where he tried to keep a Nok alive. ‘Ugh…! If I knew I would one day have to perform medical procedures on anthropomorphic foxes and crocodiles, and whatever a Sil may be, I would have become a veterinarian.’
Racking his brain, Kenneth tried to think of any alternative stitching or suturing method than the one he was used to. However, nothing at the moment came to mind, even though he knew crocodiles and other reptiles at times had operations done on them.
For now, he’d just have to think of another possibility, but as far as closing the gaping hole in this Nok was concerned, stitching between scales would work.
Throwing his tools in the bag, Kenneth once again washed his gloved hands and exited the room.
The great hall looked a bit barren, and there wasn’t even the slightest whiff of meat in the air, so lunch was still a bit off. ‘Might as well see how Nokstella and Selisio are doing.’
Still a bit tired as he exited the great hall, Kenneth jokingly reached into his bag and wished for a nice warm beaker of coffee. As the beaker appeared, Kenneth felt its weight and froze, knowing It was far too heavy to be empty.
With a wide smile, Kenneth quickly unzipped the bottom of his mask and brought the tip of the beaker to his lips, gulping down a mouthful of pills.
Discovering in the most uncomfortable and disappointing way the beaker was filled to the brim with caffeine pills, Kenneth let out a sigh and returned everything to the bag.
‘And here I was, hoping I could taste it again. I guess it’s true what they say that you miss the small things,’ Kenneth thought as he began to walk again.
Arriving at the back street, Kenneth quickly spotted Selisio just outside the nursery, talking with Jinki. However, as he got closer, Selisio eventually spotted him and, without word or warning, sprinted toward him.
He barely had the chance to say “hi” before she wrapped her arms around his torso in a hunched-over position. “You're friendly today. Is everything fine?”
“I’m just happy to see you,” Selisio giggled as she walked in a circle around him, her arms still wrapped around his torso alternating a bit in height.
‘Is this some kind of tradition or social norm?’ Kenneth wondered in confusion as Selisio made a full turn and suddenly let go of him. Darting back over to Jinki, she whispered something into his ear before vanishing into the nursery.
Scratching his head, Kenneth searched his memory to see if anyone had ever mentioned or done such a hug before.
Perhaps it was just something good friends did, or she somehow thought it was how humans did it. However, if that was true, how she’d come to that conclusion would probably be a mystery for the ages.
He wasn’t allowed to ponder for long as Jinki, like his mate, quickly approached him.
“Good to see you, friend! Jinki loudly greeted, wrapping one arm around his neck. “What brings you here? Shouldn’t you be resting or off talking about healing?”
“I could ask you the same thing, Kenneth replied. “Didn’t you have the night shift? I’d imagine you’d be sleeping right now, or did you squeeze in a bit of shut-eye while on guard.”
“Me never, Jinki adamantly replied. “However, I have to thank you. That story you told at the party about that headless person inspired me. I created a brilliant way to scare some lazy lot who fell asleep, and Oh, they did not dare sleep after that!”
“Glad to help, Kenneth replied as he began walking again.
“Hey, wait! Jinki yelled, wrapping his other arm around Kenneth in an attempt to halt him, which didn’t quite go as planned as he was pulled along, claws dragging in the dirt. “By Akina, how can you be so strong?!”
“So, are you going to let go, or do you want me to carry you?” Kenneth questioned.
“Hmm… carrying me like the merchant's son could be fun, Jinki mumbled. “Speaking of, what do you usually do for fun?”
“Fun? Kenneth repeated as he stopped up and pondered the question for a moment. “I guess… well… actually, I’m drawing a bit of a blank here. I suppose I find it fun to play a board game or listen to a song, but I don’t think I have an activity I just do for fun. I tend to focus a lot on work.”
“Really?! Jinki questioned, completely flabbergasted. “We can’t have that. Everybody needs to have some fun, and I have the perfect idea in mind. Just come along with me.”
“Umm… actually, I was going to visit Nokstella and see how she was doing,” Kenneth objected.
“Relax, Jinki said, letting go of Kenneth. “The little heretic will be there when we get back, and Selisio will keep her plenty entertained. Right now, let’s have a bit of fun.”
“I suppose it couldn’t hurt, Kenneth agreed. “So what did you have in mind?”
“Hunting, of course, Jinki gleefully replied as he began walking toward the main street. “Nothing is more fun than stalking your prey, hiding in the undergrowth or in the foliage of the trees, slowly getting closer, waiting to pounce, and delivering that single killing blow.”
“You sound like a serial killer, Kenneth flatly remarked as he followed Jinki. “But it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve gone hunting.”
“Si-ria-l killer! Jinki excitedly repeated, his tail wagging from side to side. “Is that some kind of title for the greatest of hunters?!”
“You know what forget I called you that; it was uncalled for on my part, Kenneth apologized. “But isn’t it dangerous to go on a hunt right now?”
“Don’t worry about the heretics, Jinki said reassuringly. “After repelling an attack, it’s rare for them to stay in the surrounding area. And rest assured we are not venturing too far, just enough to get the feeling that we are on a hunt.”
“Well, you know a heck of a lot more about this stuff than me, so I’ll trust you,” Kenneth replied as the pair made it to the gate.
Looking up, Jinki spotted two hunters he recognized.“ Qpoka, Biku!”
“What is it, commander?!” Qpoka asked.
Leaning up against the railing, Biku yelled in an annoyed tone of voice.“Don’t tell me you want me to practice my archery until my fingers bleed, too. I was actually able to repel every heretic that tried to breach the wall I guarded.”
“And how many heretics were on your side of the outpost again? Jinki retorted.”If I wanted you to practice until your fingers were bleeding, you’d already be crying. No, I just wanted you both to throw me your bows and quivers.”
“You are going out on a hunt with the black healer, “Qpoka said. “You do know the commander said no hunts for some time.”
“Yes, but of course, the commander’s orders are final, Jinki agreed. “However, the scouts have been gone for some time now, and I’ve started to worry they might have been attacked by a pack of Sleecies.
“I wanted to confirm for myself and asked if Kenenth would come along if any were to be injured.”
Mulling it over for a bit, Biku decided to descend the ladder with Qpoka in tow. Taking a few short steps, both handed their bows and quivers to Jinki and Kenneth, respectively. “You could just have gotten some bows and quivers from the armory yourself, you know.”
“I know, but then I’d have to explain myself to Zilika, and she isn’t as understanding as both of you,” Jinki said as he threw the quivers over his shoulder and tested the bowstring.
“Do me a favor, commander, and get back before anyone asks any questions, Biku said. “I don’t feel like getting yelled at.”
“Oh, you don’t have to worry, Biku. I’ll be as fast as an inexperienced man during mating season,” Jinki laughed as he walked over to the gate.
“Um… Qpoka, if you had a moment?” Kenneth asked as he threw his quiver over his shoulder.
Raising an eyebrow, Qpoka barely showed any interest. “What is it?”
“I could have heard wrong, but Hoota… just before he died, I think he wanted me to tell you something,” Kenneth replied.
“Don’t bother, Qpoka sighed, crossing her arms. “I know what he wanted to say, and my answer is the same as every other time he’d asked me… but thanks for being there for him. He may have annoyed me at times, but it’s good to know he didn’t die alone.”
“I… yes… I suppose so,” Kenneth hesitantly responded.
“Are you coming?” Jinki asked. “I can’t open the gate by myself.”
“Coming,” Kenneth replied quickly, walking over to Jinki and assisting him in opening the gate.
***
“Are we there, father?” Kolu impatiently asked.
“Almost. The supplier wagons need to be returned, and all of the outpost reports need to be delivered,” Solk replied as he stepped out of the wagon with a huge stack of bound letters in his hand.
Before he even set foot outside, the supplier wagons were already being thoroughly inspected for any damages by the city guard.
‘I wonder how much they deny me this time for some crack or hole,’ Solk wondered as Captain Okstra made his way over to him.
He was a tall and imposing man adorned in the attire of the city guard, which loosely hid his dark grey fur. His eyes were as sharp as daggers, and above them, encrusted into his helmet, was a black jewel.
“Well, this is a pleasant surprise, Solk said, greeting Captain Okstra with a smile and accompanying gesture. “It is rare to see you out of your office. Tell me, what’s the occasion?”
“A few scratches and cracks here and there, Jukibi. Captain Okstra said firmly, looking at the Qsiosija. “I heard from some of your men you were attacked by heretics twice. The wagons are not too damaged, all things considered; however, the fee for repair has been deducted from your payment.”
“All business, no pleasure then, Solk replied. “I am yearning to go home, so I hope you do not take offense to me moving things along in a timely manner.”
Keeping his friendly smile, Solk handed Captain Okstra the outpost reports, and in turn, he was handed his payment for a job well done.
“On behalf of the city guard and crown, I thank you for your continued work in supplying our brave soldiers on the frontline with essential resources,” Captain Okstra thanked, sounding bored, if anything.
‘Yes, and what an honor it is; I can really feel the gratitude in my hand,’ Solk thought, the weight of his payment lighter than what it ought to be.
“One thing before I take my leave,” Solk said. “On my travels, I encountered something quite peculiar. I do not know what my men have told you, nor do I know if you believe them if they said anything, but I strongly advise you to read the reports from Laoli.
“I do not know what is written in them, of course, but I can testify that anything that sounds like the words of someone inflicted with madness is true.”
“Laoli…? Laoli…? Captain Okstra muttered. “You mean that outpost with a lowborn commander. I’m surprised you even bother bringing me those letters; I usually just burn them. Regardless of what that emotional vixen of a former commander may say, a lowborn’s word can’t be trusted.”
“Regardless of how much the word of a lowborn can be trusted, I advise you not to burn these letters,” Solk recommended.
“Hmph… Very well, Captain Okstra agreed. “Your word is trustworthy. I wish you a safe travel home.”
“I doubt I’ll need it knowing a watchful captain such as yourself is keeping the capital safe, and as always, my family will be happy to serve the crown and city guard in aiding its brave soldiers,” Solk replied, bidding Captain Okstra farewell as he entered his wagon.
Letting his fake smile fade away, Solk let out a sigh and sat on the bed, placing his coins beside him.
Quickly scampering around the confined space, Kolu jumped onto the bed and began climbing up Solk’s back.
Smiling genuinely, Solk reached behind and lifted his son up on his shoulders. “Was this how Kenneth carried you around?”
“Yes! Yes! Kolu feverishly replied, leaning forward to look his father in the eyes. “Are we going home, father?! Are we?! Are we?!”
Chuckling, Solk had delayed for long enough. “Yes, we are son.”
Eyes filled with unparalleled excitement, Kolu jumped off his father’s shoulders and ran around the confined space one more.
It was only when the wagon came to a stop that Kolu slowed down, waiting in front of the door, teetering on his claws, his tail thrashing about wildly as he jumped from side to side and up and down.
“Son, Solk said in a slightly disapproving tone of voice. “Is this how you’ll greet your mother after not seeing her for so long? Messing up your neatly brushed fur and behaving in such an undignified manner. If anyone saw you, they’d think you were the earth child from Underfoot.”
Looking ashamed, Kolu grabbed his tail and tugged on it until it calmed down. Remembering every lesson in etiquette and all the words of his father as to how a royal should behave, Kolu calmly waited in front of the door.
Once he was certain Kolu wouldn’t just run, Solk opened the door, and both stepped outside. It had been a long time since he’d seen his home.
It wasn’t the largest home a royal could possess, only standing two floors tall and surrounded by an old, sturdy iron fence.
The building itself only had a few long pieces of finely crafted glass fitted into the upper floors, and just above the entrance was the Jukibi crest, a set of hands exchanging goods for coins, with the words inscribed at the bottom, “Trick of the trade.”
Quickly approaching, the two houseguards, Thefke and Roksna, opened the gate and welcomed them home. “Lord Jubiki, we hope your travels went well.
“I’ll tell Lady Jubiki of your arrival,” Roksna said as he hurried off to the mansion.
Walking through the gate with his son by his side, Solk gestured for his men to bring the wagons inside. He’d have to think about the situation with the Qsiosija, but for now, it could wait.
Right now, Solk had more pressing matters to attend to as Pefka, a beautiful woman with short white and green spotted fur still in her silver years, stepped out from the mansion and greeted both with a relieved smile.
From afar, her dress was a beautiful blue color that hid her lower features, but Solk knew if it was viewed with a keen eye, one would spot much of the patchwork that went into repairing it each and every time it had ripped or torn.
Keeping an eye on his son, Solk was proud he stayed calmly by his side even though he looked torn, probably wanting nothing more than to run into his mother’s arms.
She had such a gentle expression as Solk and Kolu walked closer, and he couldn’t wait to feel her touch as they locked eyes. However, from behind Pefka came Solk’s three daughters, Hiku, Jiji, and Viri, yelling Kolu’s name.
Without word or warning, each one of them tackled Kolu to the ground, laughing and playing in the dirt.
Watching the scene unfold, Solk let out a conflicted sigh, knowing everything he’d taught Kolu on their long journey had been ruined, just like all of their clothes by the dirt.
“What a sight to behold,” Pefka chuckled, approaching her mate.
“I’ve seen heretics sneak attack someone with less ferocity than our three girls,” Solk replied with a mixed expression as he watched his children rough-and-tumble on the ground.
“Don’t blame them too much. Pefka said in a caring tone of voice as she embraced Solk. “Ever since you left, they’d been asking when both of you would return.
“They haven’t had the hearts to play as much as they normally do without their brother, and now that he’s home, I think they are making up for lost time. However, that is no reason to be so disrespectful of their father.”
Clapping her hands twice, all of the rambunctious children quickly stopped and got up from the ground.
“Girls! You’ve said hello to your brother, but isn’t there something you're forgetting?”
Looking a bit shy and apologetic, Hiku, Jiji, and Viri walked up to their father. “We’ve missed you, father.”
Kneeling down, Solk couldn’t resist. Before they knew it, he wrapped his arms around all three of them in a giant hug, stroking and ruffling the fur on the top of their heads as they screamed and laughed. “I’ve missed you three so much.”
At the same time, Kolu ran over to his mother, who indulged in his desire as she picked him up in a giant hug. “Was it exciting being out there in those outposts?”
With an excited gleam in his eyes, Kolu started raving about what happened on the journey. “Yes! Yes! I meet a great healer! An-and I saw Golden Knight fight heretics!”
“What a fun story, Pefka chuckled, placing Kolu on the ground. “Why don’t you tell me and your sister more later when we celebrate you and your father's return.”
“Come now, Solk interjected, placing Viri, Hiku, and Jiji on the ground. “I’ve been out at those outposts and back more times than I can count by now. I don’t think there’s any reason to celebrate… me. But Kolu, this was his first time, and he behaved splendidly.”
“Splendidly, you say, Pefka smiled. “Then let us celebrate not only Kolu’s safe return but his first journey from the capital to the outposts. So Kolu, my brave little man, what would you like to eat? I’ll have the maid make it ready.”
“I-I get to choose, Kolu said gleefully, overwhelmed by the many choices he had. “All! I want all!”
“All? Pefka questioned as she playfully rubbed his stomach. “Are you sure you can eat so much?”
Laughing as he squirmed, Kolu responded with a loud “Yes!”
“A strip of every piece of meat we have. Pefka said. “I’ll tell the maid, and in the meantime, why don’t you play with your sisters? They’ve been missing you a lo--”
Before she could even finish, Hiku, Jiji, and Viri descended on their brother, too eager and impatient for some more rough-and-tumble. With the children preoccupied, the adults finally had some time for each other.
“Have you been well while I was gone?” Solk asked.
“Yes, but I worried sleeplessly so often for not only your but Kolu’s safety,” Pefka replied as she watched Kolu, afraid he’d disappear if she took her eyes off him.
“Look at him and me, Solk asked of her. “We are both well and home after a long journey… with a little gift to you I managed to procure from one of the outposts.”
“Would those savage places even have something for a woman?” Pefka asked.
Leaning in close, Solk whispered into her ear, and she couldn't believe it, having to stop herself from loudly exclaiming in shock and disbelief.

2024.06.07 23:07 TFermTheDoggy Universal Season 16 - Full Release

Hello everyone, and welcome to Universal UHC Season 16!

Universal is a reddit recorded round founded by brinkwhy and TehBaconBrawlerZ, and is now organized by Fcrm. This round aims to bring public game styled matches into the recorded round scene through means of consistent meta scenarios, fast paced gameplay, and a relatively open roster.
For our sixteenth season, it will be Chosen Teams of 2. Additionally, crossteaming was allowed up to the max teamsize of the game, and betraying crossteams was not allowed.
The scenarios for this season were:
  • Battle Siren: Whenever a player starts hitting another enemy player, it will broadcast the general coordinates of where the fight is happening.
  • Bleeding Sweets: When a player dies, they will drop a diamond, 5 gold, a book, 1 string, and 16 arrows.
  • CutClean: All food and ores will automatically drop in their smelted form.
  • Golden Retriever: When a player dies, a golden head automatically drops as opposed to dropping a raw head.
  • Hastey Boys: All tools are automatically given efficiency 3 and unbreaking 1 when crafted.
  • Red Arrows: When a player dies, a giant red arrow will spawn above their death location.
  • Siphon: Whenever a player gets a kill, they will receive 2 hearts of regeneration, 2 levels, and a random tier 1 enchanted book (aside from fire aspect or flame).
  • Team Health: Each player’s health is displayed as the combined health of their entire team. Players cannot use /h.
  • Team Inventory: Each team has a separate inventory that each member of the team can collectively access using the command /ti.
  • Timber: When a player breaks any log of a tree, the entire set of logs will be broken.
  • Triple Iron: When mining iron, it drops 3 iron instead of 1 iron.
Enjoy the season!
