What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Gaming. Games like wow, Cyberpunk, Helldivers 2, total war Warhammer 3, some modded skyrim and grand strategy games like Hearts of iron IV. I got 2 1440p 144hz monitors. I'd like to play new AAA single player games in decent quality. Nothing special like video editing or AI stuff.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
500 - 700€
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Within the next few days.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower except CPU, GPU and RAM (I bought them in another country for much cheaper). No peripherals needed.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
Austria, Vienna (no Microcenter)
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
ASRock Phantom Gaming OC Radeon RX 7900 XT 20 GB Video Card G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor

2024.05.15 11:15 tempmailgenerator Ensuring Line Break Preservation in JavaScript for Email Content

Handling Textarea Input for Email Bodies in JavaScript

When dealing with web forms, particularly textareas where users can input free-form text, one common challenge is ensuring that the input is accurately represented in the final output, such as an email body. This is crucial in JavaScript-driven applications, where the dynamic nature of content handling often leads to formatting issues, especially with line breaks. Users expect their input, including paragraphs and line breaks, to be preserved exactly as they have entered it when this information is transmitted via email or displayed on another platform. This expectation aligns with the natural flow of written communication, where line breaks are used to separate thoughts, paragraphs, and sections for better readability.
However, the standard behavior of HTML and email clients strips out these crucial line breaks when displaying text, leading to a block of text that can be hard to read and loses the original formatting intended by the user. Addressing this challenge requires a nuanced understanding of JavaScript and how it interacts with HTML and email formats. By employing specific techniques and code adjustments in JavaScript, developers can ensure that user-entered text is displayed with the intended formatting in emails, thus improving the overall user experience and communication clarity. This introduction will explore these techniques and provide a foundation for implementing solutions that preserve line breaks and formatting.
Command Description
replace(/\n/g, ' ') Replaces newline characters with HTML line break tags to preserve text formatting in HTML contexts.
encodeURIComponent() Encodes a URI component by replacing each instance of certain characters by one, two, three, or four escape sequences representing the UTF-8 encoding of the character.

In-depth Exploration: Preserving User Input Across Platforms

When users input text into a textarea on a web form, they often include line breaks and spacing with the expectation that these formatting choices will be preserved, whether the text is sent in an email, stored in a database, or displayed on another webpage. This expectation stems from the intuitive understanding of text formatting where line breaks signify pauses or separate ideas, crucial for the readability and comprehension of the text. However, the inherent challenge lies in the way different platforms and technologies interpret and display these line breaks. In HTML, for example, line breaks entered by users are not automatically translated into visible line breaks on the webpage. Instead, they are treated as whitespace, leading to a continuous block of text unless explicitly formatted using HTML tags like for line breaks or
for paragraphs. This discrepancy between user input and system output necessitates a careful approach in handling and displaying user-generated content.
To ensure that text input retains its intended formatting across various outputs, developers must employ specific techniques. For instance, when preparing text input for inclusion in an email body or for display on a webpage, replacing newline characters (\n) with HTML line break tags ( ) is a common practice. This replacement can be done programmatically using JavaScript, ensuring that the text appears to the recipient or on the webpage exactly as the user intended, with all line breaks and paragraph separations intact. Additionally, when sending text over a URL, such as in a mailto link, it's essential to URL-encode the text to ensure that line breaks and special characters are correctly interpreted by email clients. This process involves converting the text into a format that can be transmitted over the Internet without losing its structure, using functions like encodeURIComponent in JavaScript. These practices are crucial for maintaining the integrity of user input across platforms, enhancing user experience by respecting their formatting choices.

Preserving Textarea Input for Email Formatting

JavaScript snippet
const textareaContent = document.getElementById('textarea').value; const formattedContent = textareaContent.replace(/\n/g, '
'); document.getElementById('preview').innerHTML = formattedContent;

Encoding Textarea Content for URL

JavaScript for Email Links
const textareaContent = document.getElementById('textarea').value; const encodedContent = encodeURIComponent(textareaContent); window.location.href = `mailto:someone@example.com?body=${encodedContent}`;

Enhancing User Experience Through Text Formatting

Text formatting in web applications, especially when dealing with user input in textareas, plays a critical role in user experience. Preserving the formatting such as line breaks and spaces as entered by the user is crucial for several reasons. First, it ensures that the message's intent and tone are communicated effectively. Line breaks often serve to emphasize points, separate thoughts, or organize content in a readable manner. Without these, text can become a dense and challenging block to navigate, potentially leading to misunderstandings or misinterpretations of the intended message. This is particularly important in contexts like email communication, where clarity and precision are paramount.
Secondly, maintaining the original formatting entered by users when their input is transferred to an email body or another output format respects the user's expression. This not only improves the overall user experience by validating the user's input as valued but also minimizes the need for manual corrections or formatting adjustments post-transfer. Techniques to preserve line breaks, such as converting newline characters to HTML tags or encoding them for URL transmission, are essential skills for developers. These methods ensure that applications handle user input intelligently, reflecting the care and consideration of the user's intentions, ultimately leading to more polished and professional communication.

2024.05.15 10:04 No-Height-8584 Zo Skin cured my Acne

I (28f) I’ve been dealing with the worst skin of my life for the past three years. I quit hormonal birth control, which I’ve been on since the age of 16 and all of a sudden was dealing with acne for the first time of my life.
We’re not talking about a little breakout here and there we’re talking full hormonal acne that would get drastically worse every month. My self confidence tanked and there were some days I would refuse to leave the house. I’ve cried a lot over this.
Now I was not kind to my skin in my early 20s either. Tanning booth, drinking, late nights. I was definitely seeing the effects. Before I quit birth control I started using some retinol and Botox trying to get my skin to look young again. Unfortunately the retinal caused me to dry and then when I quit the birth control, the overall inflammation was a disaster.
I was a cystic acne mess with deep wrinkles. Who knew they could co exist…
Fast-forward years later, I’ve tried nearly everything from microdermabrasion, led lights, differin gel, to thousands on skincare, Morpheus8 and everything in between with zero to no luck. The one thing that was working the best was actually doing less. It seemed the more I tried the more irritated things got. But I’m impatient and hate feeling like I’m not doing something about the problem.
I finally started working with a new dermatologist (I’ve been through like four at this point) and this was the first one who uses Zo Skin Health.
She did a peel. it was a bit dry, but overall not bad and then set me up with a skincare routine that includes the exfoliating cleanser twice a day, the oil control pads, the hydrating cream, and a 50+ SPF
Prior to this I would’ve said no that’s too much exfoliation. My skin is red and dry anyways this is gonna be horrible but I trusted her.
My skin is never red or inflamed. The cleaners leaves it soft not tight. I have gotten rid of almost every fine line. oh my God am I glad I trusted her.
Don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t easy. The first month, i had little breakouts every time I would wake up with a couple big cystic ones. But they all came to a head and went away within a day or two. Not like differen which would leave marks. It was a process, everything that was in my skin came out. I could tell it was purging though so I stuck with it.
Now I’m sitting pretty, my skin better than it was in my early 20s. I do not have feel oily mud day, my skin is never red or inflamed. I have gotten rid of almost every fine line, I’m getting sooo many compliments! The marks are fading and I can start treating the scars (they have also raised)
I’m still in disbelief. No it’s not 100% perfect. There’s small whiteheads here and there that pop up in the morning, but they are gone once I wash my face and don’t leave marks.
I think this routine is the one for me for a while. I look forward to adding a vitamin c in the future.

2024.05.15 09:41 Chris_Thompson7951 Limerence. The Heart's Cocaine. Can it turn a casual dalliance into a life destroying addiction to chasing the un·ob·tain·a·ble?

It was late November 2015. I was 51 and one year past my divorce (which was not related to cheating) when I became so disgusted with myself that I knew I had to pick myself up. I was alone for the long holiday, and although I wasn't really sad or lonely, I felt empty. However, I had some extra time to consider how does one picks oneself up.
I made a list of potential New Year resolutions that were individually realistic. Some were really easy and stupid like “have your chipped front tooth fixed” and “take & post a selfie”. These smaller tasks fueled my confidence and provided the energy boosts needed to tackle the more challenging resolutions, like starting a weight loss challenge at work.
Skip ahead to March 4th 2016. I had a Friday lunch date with a married client that I met two weeks prior. Of course, it was not a real date, as I wouldn't impose myself on a married woman, nor would I risk my career or my ego, especially if the signals she seemed to be sending were just a product of my wishful thinking, stimulated by checking off some boxes on the list on the fridge dated 1/1/16.
The following is my thank you note to her for a great date as well as for helping me check a lot of boxes over the past few weeks. I sent her a link to it as it is in the form of my first ever online post (one more check box, YAY!).
************************************** We were only 1 minute in the hotel room; her jeans in a ball on the floor. She sat at the foot of the king sized bed and backed her way into the stack of oversized pillows lining the headboard. I followed as If attached by a leash. I landed somewhat awkwardly on my elbows between her legs finding myself squarely face to face with the tattoo. This tattoo, that she so shamelessly revealed just a week ago, the same tattoo that has been scorching my thoughts and the same tattoo that she promised me complete and unlimited access.
It’s been a long time since I have been here or anywhere near as nice as here, between the legs of a beautiful woman 20 years younger and far out of my league....even when I was her age. I took a second to drink in my fortunate situation. I admired her panties. All day I was so hoping she would wear those same panties as before. She didn’t. These were different but similar enough. The delicate lace and silk perfectly framed the tattoo on her hip. She did not disappoint. There is a fruity jasmine scent, intoxicatingly pleasant, and oh so subtle. It is not here. I’ll need to find its source. I want more of that. (I remember being thoroughly impressed and thinking to myself “This girl is good”.)
I briefly forgot that there was someone else here besides myself and the tattoo. How long have I been down here perving out on her? I wondered. I hesitated, and then apologetically looked up half expecting a well-deserved snarky glare. What I found instead was an ear to ear compassionate smile followed by a tilt of her head and an arch of her eyebrow that said “I like that you like that, carry on”.
With confidence restored that we were still in sync, I adjusted myself so that I was in a good position to thoroughly enjoy what I came to do. I kissed the tattoo hard and gave it a good lick. The challenge for today was “Taste the Tattoo” and I won. I did a small celebration gesture that she rolled her eyes to. I continued to kiss and taste all around until every freckle got some personal attention. As I got to the upper most reaches of her inner thighs, I looked up to check in as I was about to cross a new line. For the first time she was not looking back at me but had laid her head back deep into the pillows, her eyes closed. I took that as a yes!
I marveled at the softness of her inner thighs on my cheeks as I gently placed kisses up one and down the other. As I kissed her through her panties, her hips responded by arching her up in anticipation of each next kiss. Before long, those wonderful panties were just getting in the way. I stopped and pondered whether to just slide them aside or remove them or to risk interrupting the mood and attempt a complete wardrobe removal as we were both still fully dressed except for her jeans.
I didn’t have to ponder long as she knew what she wanted and it was not any of the options I was considering. Still lying back with her head semi submerged within the pillows, she held out her arms as if gesturing for a hug. I moved up her body and when I got close enough she pulled me in for a kiss.
Unbelievably, this was our first kiss. I found it odd that we had not kissed yet and was grateful she thought to stop for a moment to have a kiss. We kissed some and then I settled in to thoroughly enjoy it. However, the kiss to come was not the kiss I was expecting or a kiss I was ready for. It was a kiss that could ruin everything.
Technically, there was one kiss before. It was an awkward kiss 5-10 minutes earlier just after we entered the room. All in about the time it took for the hotel door to close behind us, she tossed her bag on the sofa, had her jewelry off and set on the nightstand while I emptied my pockets and silenced my phone.
We approached each other, and as we met I was looking at the place where the tattoo would be under her shirt and behind her jeans. They were higher cut and could not be pulled down that far to get to the tattoo. They would have to come off. To just reach in and do that would be an uncharacteristically bold move for me. But I did have unquestionable permission to have the tattoo in any way that I desired. I reached down with both hands and took hold of the waistband on each side of the button. I didn’t see her simultaneous move in at me at first. Just as I felt the metal of the button, I felt her reaching her arms around my neck and realized that she was tip toeing up for a kiss. It caught me unexpectedly and I think it showed on my face that it did. I tried to recover and moved back in to accept her lips on to mine but it turned into an awkward peck.
I scolded myself for the selfish moment and just as I was trying to formulate a recovery gesture, she, without missing a beat, gently dismissed my fumble and gracefully restored the momentum. “Oh” she said with surprise in her tone, while looking down at my fingers ready to release her button. Then, in a more playfully quizzical tone, she followed with “I guess you want to get right to THAT then” and she stepped back away from me where I lost grip of her jeans. She replaced my fingers on the button with hers, paused, maybe waiting for me to look up to her eyes, which I finally did, then flashed me a devilishly naughty smile and pulled her jeans down to the top of her boots. She then proudly announced, mostly to herself, “You really are going to let me have fun with you, aren’t you!” seemingly shedding any doubts in her mind that I would go through with this. She then sat at the foot of the all white linen king sized bed, removed her boots and jeans and backed her way into the stack of oversized pillows lining the headboard.
Back to our kiss. The kiss that from now on I will reflect on as our first kiss
Responding to her hug gesture, I moved up her body and when I got close enough she pulled me in for a kiss. I didn’t flub it this time, but again, I didn’t know it was coming, and prolly I should have. It took only ten seconds to adjust and synchronize to each other’s kissing form. It was warm and succulent and sweet and was wonderful. I really was surprised at how nice this felt. I don’t recall married kissing being this enjoyable. I remember saying to myself “Damn, this girl can kiss”.
I was on top, in a position that wasn’t going to be comfortable for as long as I wanted this to last, so I backed away to reposition but she held tight indicating she didn’t want me to move. I gestured at the space next to her and she relented. We then settled in facing one another side by side; her smile confirming that this was a nice place. We were hugging and kissing, pulling each other closer and looking into each other’s eyes. Our legs intertwined and our hands were roaming, but not really in a sexual way, more like trying to make as much body contact as possible. I couldn’t get over how I felt so much more familiarity than there was. What I did not recognize at the time was that this was the physical intimacy catching up to match the virtual intimacy we have been sharing online.
Soon the intensity escalated and it was getting very hot very quickly. The intensity and passion that was building was not something I ever expected or planned for. This was the rare kind of making out where accidental hickeys happen and inadvertent “Oh god I love you’s” slip out. Not that either of those was going to happen but my safe, non-committal no emotional strings encounter was getting too hot to not risk introducing emotions into the situation. And that could happen.
At some point I was no longer kissing her lips and mouth but was kissing her.
I broke contact to catch a breath and maybe get some control of the fire. We stopped for a moment to breathe and cool off. She slid herself on top and I rolled over on to my back to accommodate her. She looked at me with eyes that appeared to agree that it was a good time to slow it down. She closed her eyes and she seemed to enjoy that I was rubbing her back with both hands that I slipped up under her shirt. She presented her lips for me to kiss and then her cheek for the same, then neck and ear and lips again. Her long hair had fallen down around us, surrounding our faces like a vail creating a tiny private and even more intimate space. Inside here it was darker and the temperature and humidity rose quickly. We were breathing each other’s breath between kisses. All of a sudden I noticed that Jasmine was back. Not subtle this time, but deep and fulfilling. I loved it.
This fragrance stuff really works. The next morning just after waking up, I caught an unexpected subtle whiff on my skin under my watch and my heart jumped by 20 beats. Who’d a thunk it possible?
The passion was building again but since I was aware and cautious now, I wanted to enjoy and go with it. I thought I could keep it measured and I did for a while as it does take two. The kissing slowed to half and so did the passion. However, the rest of our bodies started to make up for it and the touching evolved into the sexual. She was still on top of me and my hands were exploring and squeezing on her panty covered butt, then under and in those panties. Her body contact became more targeted as she was now very deliberately mashing her fun stuff all over my fun stuff. The kissing subsided but replaced with the audible accompaniment of her squeaks, moans and quicker breathing timed with her mashing I was no longer in control. The passion was under control but being replaced with something intimately erotic.
I abruptly escaped by gently rolling her over on to her back then getting up and knelling between her legs. I took a moment to catch my breath and wanted to say “That is getting WAY too intimate. Can we get naked and have sex now?” However, I tugged at her panties and said something dorky like “can we take these off now?” Yes, we were still both fully dressed except for her jeans
Since I am the kind of guy who doesn’t kiss and tell, (well, only tells about the kisses) and this is not the forum for it, I am not going to talk about the sexy part over the next 30 minutes. I will tell you that we did finally each get ourselves unceremoniously naked and then the sexy part finishes where it started, with me finishing all over that beautiful tattoo. Of course I did a small celebration gesture that she rolled her eyes to.
*************************************************
Cuddle time. Our snapchats leading up to this encounter were heavy on the anticipation and buildup but didn’t contain a lot of detail about or define what stuff would happen during our “fun” time together.
Me: “Ok then, tomorrow lunchtime, I’m in.”
Her: “OMG Are you saying that you are REALLY going to come here and let me have fun with you?
Me: “I’m REALLY going to come there. I am REALLY going to fully inspect that tattoo, as well as the neighborhood where the tattoo lives.
Her: “I so can’t wait to get my hands on you.”
Me: “WOW….Now that this is real and going to happen, my heart is beating so hard that I am afraid that people can see it through my shirt.”
Her: “You have to tell me, are you being SERIOUS right now? You can’t say this and not show up. It’s OK if you are teasing, but you have to say so that you are now….not tomorrow!!!”
Me: “I am SERIOUS and I PROMISE I will be there. You have gotten to me, BAD. All week with the way we have been talking..err..I mean snapchatting; I can’t get you out of my head. Then today with those tattoo snaps you sent; I can’t get up from my desk. LOL…..NOT kidding NOT teasing.”
Her: “I am BAD, and I like having FUN. I am going to have so much fun with you!!!”
************************************************
The only specific things I recall us acknowledging we would do with our “fun” was tattoo inspection and cuddle time. So as soon as cleanup from sexy time was done we both knew what time it was. For me, as good as the inspection was the cuddle was better. Just as during the sexy time we changed things up and we got to cuddle many ways. We started face to face full contact hugging just like our kissing time with some but less kissing and more being in the moment.
We were still hot (temperature hot now) and sweaty so that didn’t last long. She turned over and we spooned some. I was still craving full body contact but it was still so hot that we had to separate a bit. No contact spooning if you will, with just my one hand caressing her exposed shoulder and arm and hip with an occasional butt cheek squeeze.
It was about that time that we had our first ever personal conversation. On the project there were lots of flirty banter and some personal stories but almost always as part of a group. We had many phone calls and a few project meetings with just us two but never did the conversation get personal. Until now the only personal talks (Chats) we have had have been via Snapchat. I don’t recall who asked the first question of the other, but it was like a dam broke and we started filling in the details of our lives, our feelings and all the things we chatted about.
There was a lot to tell and we were giddy like children (child) best friends re-meeting on the first day of school catching each other up on our summer vacations. At one point she had something compelling to say and faster than a fish out of water she flipped back to facing me so she could gesture with her hand and punctuate through her expression. She landed close. Closer that I think she meant to at first and just a bit awkward I felt. But I was wrong. She didn’t back up an inch. I really couldn’t see her hand but I could feel that she was using it in the 2 to 4 inches of space between our chests. Her face was right into mine. She would lean back or up just an inch when she wanted me to see her eyes or smile or frown for emphasis, then settle back into the pillows with our foreheads or noses or cheeks touching. It was the farthest thing in the world from awkward.
If there was a recurring theme for the day it would be HOT; in every sense and synonym of the word. Again, it was getting too sweaty to remain that close. This time she broke contact to catch a breath and escape the heat. We stopped talking for a moment to breathe and cool off. She sat up, crawled to, and grabbed the (sexy time) clean-up towel that was at the far foot of the bed. She turned around so that she was kneeling facing me as she brought the towel up to her chest to absorb the beads and drips of sweat that had accumulated. As I watched, I again thought of my great fortune to be right here right now feeing what I feel and seeing the beauty before me. She pushed the towel down across her belly button and it fell into her lap.
I observed the soft sunlight reflecting off the white sheets, the white towel, and the white pillows bathed her in perfect light creating just a hint of subtle shadows in all of the right places on her angelic white skin. I started consciously taking photos with my mind. I wanted to capture every nuance and note every detail. I don’t know if I will ever be here again.
I don't recall if my next realization was comprehended in a split second, or if it took ten seconds to develop, but a terrible fear washed over me that for the first time in forever, she was beyond my touch and her next action might be to look for her panties or go jump in the shower. We were after all, deep into the second hour of her hour long lunch.
As I was preparing myself for the pain soon to come, I couldn't understand where it was coming from. I had the BEST DAY EVER, but I felt like an exhausted child who just watched the Disney fireworks finally and knows what that means.
What the hell? What is happening in my head? I don't even know this girl, let alone have feelings for her beyond she made my dick feel good at lunchtime.....and, I guess my ego is healthier since I met her. I have not cheated on my diet since she turned on the flattery the week before. I was sure it had to be somehow manipulative, but I hoped that if only a 5% chance it wasn't AND she liked me AND her mom was single, made it easy to keep my snacking to peas & carrots.
My self esteem has been skyrocketing too, as I have been checking a lot of boxes on my refrigerator. LOL, so many in fact, that I have been adding things to the list after they happened that I didn't dare put on it as they seemed pretty unobtainable just two months before. "Get sent a nude selfie, check. Have the confidence to send one back, check. Take a hottie 32 year old client out to lunch and fuck her brains out, check.
Did I just discover that I like girls who make my self esteem feel good more than I like girls who make my dick feel good?
Shit, that wasn't even on my top ten list. Smart, funny, pretty, Kind, whatever is the opposite of bitchy, fun in bed, boobs and/or an age appropriate figure is always nice, curious, someone you can trust to see you at your worst. Before today, "genuinely being a boost & support of my self esteem" was 10th.
Then BAM. I was hit in the face with the towel. Damn girl, I hope you can handle a spanking because I was just on the verge of making an interpersonal discovery of some importance over here, I thought to myself. I noticed the slightest or possibly mock look of concern on her face as she asks "you're not having any regrets or second thoughts over there are you?". I reflexively replied "Oh god no". Then with some emphasys, I continued "today was incredible. I REALLY needed this and you were PERFECT, thank you".
Again she did not disappoint. She crawled to the top of the bed on the far side and then to me over the pillows and laid down at a 90 angle to me on her stomach parallel to the headboard with her head nearly right on top of mine. She propped herself up a bit on her elbows and we kissed deeply. It was nice.
I made a few attempts to shake my internal drama, get out of my head and get back to my goal of picking my self up after my divorce. Oops, I mean back to pleasing a beautiful woman who clearly was not yet done having her fun with me. The emotional rollercoaster ride over the last hours, days & weeks completely blew out my brains ability to generate or absorb endorphins or whatever happens in a situation like this. Shortly after we had joked around while showering together, kissing goodbye (just like when I kissed my endorphin killing ex wife) and going on back to our separate lives.
I drove the hour or so home, brought my dog to the park and had healthiest and happiest cry I ever had. I don't know what I was feeling or why, but I was feeling again and it brought me much relief and contentedness.
We texted a bit that evening confirming that we each enjoyed our time together and agreeing that we should do that again sometime. The next day, Saturday, her husband took their 5 & 8 year old sons somewhere for the day. We checked in with each other again over text and chatted some about our lunch but the spark or excitement we usually had was not the same.
I reached out again that evening and asked if she was in a place that we could talk on the phone. She resisted but did call me (our first personal phone call). It took her 24 hours to let her cry bubble up. It turns out that our emotional experiences were remarkably similar, albeit from different perspectives.
She much later reveals that she felt emotionally dead for her hubby. She evolved to a bad place where she wanted fuck anyone but her hubby but still fucked him twice a week and had to appear happy to do it, killing her brain chemistry.
We rode the best and worst roller coaster in the world for 6 or 8 months....until the the Cocaine eventually wore off or the unobtainable became obtainable and it wasn't the the same rush for either of us any longer. She was the closest thing to a drug addiction that I ever felt. I never wanted anyone or anything like I wanted her.
My hope is that this story helps one person answer the question "Why the hell would he/she risk giving up their wonderful & loving family for an hour with a douchebag or a skank?"

2024.05.15 09:22 Joe2_0 The Nature of Grunts - 2

Memory Transcription Subject: PFC Alus, Yotul auxiliary to the UN Spaceborne Infantry
Date [standardized human time]: March 3\**rd 2137, 1000 hours ship-time
After Gutierrez showed me to our compartment, and I dropped off my duffelbags, he began leading me to the Armory, where I would be assigned my rifle and 'sensitive items' as he put it. As we walked, my mind churned with more questions.
"Hey, uh, Guts. Back in the supply compartment, you mentioned the 'USMC'? That's the American Marines right? I thought you were UN Spaceborne infantry."
"Yeah, so, I am a Marine. Marine to the core. But Earth sorta got thrown into this whole clusterfuck without having a properly unified military, and instead of trying to set up a whole new service from scratch, they got the big five on the Security Council, being us, the Brits, the French, the Chinese, and the Russkis, to pitch in units. So you got Marines and Army making up the American portion of the SI, and Navy and Airforce making up our part of the fleet. Same for every country that pitched in, even some outside the UNSC." Gutierrez explained, his hands moving about animatedly. "Right now it's a hot mess because none of the standards, paperwork, or anything changed, but I guess they'll probably formalize and standardize the SI and Fleet after all this shit is done. All we currently got that's the same is rifles, uniforms, and equipment. The traditions and paperwork and shit are all wildly different from one countries units to another, and sometimes even within the same country's units because of different branches. The US Marines and US Army for instance, we share a lot of the same shit you know, but our low-level paperwork is branch-specific, and our organization is different."
I thought for a moment about what he was saying as we walked though the passageways, pondering on the idea of what a truly united Human military could accomplish, if everything Humanity had done so far was with a truly thrown-together force. As I looked up again, I saw we were approaching the armory, and mentally filed my next question away for later. We crossed through the threshold, and I found myself standing in front of a grated window, another Human on the other side.
"Sarn't Johnson, I'd like you to meet our new Yotul auxiliary, Alus. We're doing inprocessing, and need to get his weapon and equipment drawn and assigned."
The new Human looked down at me curiously and smiled, before reaching down and grabbing a few sheets of paper from under his desk.
"Alright" the Sergeant said, before moving deeper into the armory, stopping at a weapons cage, before unlocking it and inspecting the rifles line up inside "So, what are we billeting him as?"
"Just an 0311, needs a rifleman's kit and associated gear" Guts replied, leaning forward to watch the Sergeant.
"Gotcha. Just gimme a minute here."
Guts and I watched as the Armorer pulled a cart over, and picked out a rifle, laying it down on the cart, and locking the cage, before moving to the next rack and removing a small black bag, repeating the process along the line of cages across one wall of the armory, before coming back to the front, and pressing a button on his desk. I heard a click from a door next to the grated portal, and Gutierrez waved for me to follow him through the door, and into the armory.
The Sergeant had sat back down, and was poring over what appeared to be a checklist as he inspected each piece of equipment, ticking them off down the list one by one. When he was done, he clipped it to a clipboard, and handed it off to Gutierrez, before looking toward me.
"So, Heard you fellas went through some sorta training dirtside, so you should be familiar with at least the rifle?" He asked, picking up a notably shorter version of the standard UN rifle I had qualified on Earth with.
"Yes, ours were longer, it kinda seemed like they weren't really meant for non-Humans to use. We could all barely aim them shooting, uh, offhand I think it was?"
"Yeah, sounds about right for an indoc unit. The M-36 is a piston gun so it's good bit heavier out front than the old M-16's the Corps used to issue way back, Mag in the back kinda balances the whole shebang on the carbine variants" he slapped the side of the firearm he was holding "But on the full length rifles they're just ungodly long barrels. Ay, Guts, something like a 28-inch heavy barrel on the old M-36A1's?"
"Yeah, something stupid like that," Guts said, looking up from the paperwork he had been signing, as he set it down on the table. "Marines wanted a gun that was the same length or shorter than an M-16, Piston, and could reach out to like 800 meters with 5.56. I think Bushmaster pulled out some old relic from the 20th century and just modernized it? I remember the K&M lawsuit right when we started getting the A1's back in 2130, but yeah."
The sergeant nodded and turned back to me, pointing at the firearm again "So, when the Corps finally removed their head from their fifth point of contact-"
"Their ass" Gutierrez helpfully interjected, grinning
"Yes, But anyways, They saw some issues with going back to a full size rifle, and got carbines made to replace the A1's for combat arms. Shorter barrel, shorter gas system, shorter receiver, way lighter out front. Super nice shooting guns to boot. Bushmaster also sold them on this neat quick-change barrel system they thought up too, so now we have a bunch of smoothbore barrels for flechettes, rifled barrels for traditional ammunition, pencil barrels for riflemen, heavy barrels with bipods for autoriflemen, in a bunch of different lengths. These fuckers are modular as hell."
The sergeant had what was probably the widest grin I'd ever seen on a Human as he finished talking, and it very nearly took me aback, despite the Yotul, myself included, not having the same issues with Human mannerisms as the wider Federation.
"I-I'm not gonna have to carry all of those, right?" I asked, hesitantly, and Gutierrez broke out laughing, while the sergeant suppressed a chuckle.
"Nah kid, we just pick a rifle and swap the barrel to the one you need for what you're doing. Mostly just makes shit easier on my end really. You're just getting a carbine-length pencil barrel, lightest of the bunch."
The Sergeant shifted, bringing the rifle to his shoulder, and pointed it at a canted barrel, sticking the muzzle in, and pulled back the charging handle, sticking a finger into the rifle's ejection port, before looking in, and releasing the charging handle, before pulling the trigger with a 'click'. He then held out the rifle for me, and I took it, surprised at how much lighter it was than the one I had been issued in training.
"So, one M-36A2." the Sergeant said, before pulling a metal cylinder from a small pouch, and peering through it up at one of the lights, before getting up and grabbing a metal rod, and walking over to me. He stood alongside me, and slipped the cylinder over the muzzle of the rifle, before inserting the rod down the barrel, and peering closely at a small gap around the rod.
"And one suppressor. Clears the rod check so that shouldn't give you any issues. Guts should be able to explain the adjustable piston to you so you don't get gassed in the face while you're using it." With a quick twist of a collar on the back of the tube, the armorer pulled the device off the muzzle and stuck it back in it's pouch, and picked up a larger cloth case. He pulled something that looked like a visor on an articulating arm from it, and inserted a pair of batteries into a cylinder that ran along the top.
"This here is the AN/PVS-101 'Fused vision system'. Little heads up display that links up with the rest of your fireteam, and also has thermal and Infrared overlay. Just a fuckin' neat piece of kit honestly. Datalink is hardened to all hell, and the whole system's idiot-proof. I've seen ones that pre-date the Satellite Wars. Uses an accelerometer and gyro system to keep track of where you are in the area, and can pulse lidar to give you visuals in full pitch-black. You can also mark obstacles, enemy troops, vics, whatever with eye-clicks, and the system keeps track and spreads that out to all the linked systems. Plus there's a version that goes to the fireteam leader, which transmits all that collated data back to company level, and gives them an up-to-date picture of everything that's going on. Just honestly fuckin' cool."
He then held up a square plate on the back of the arm to his forehead, and withdrew a small box from the back and touched it to the back of his head.
"The FVS mounts to the socket on the front of your helmet, and the Processing unit just mounts to the rear, acts like a counterweight too which keeps your neck from hurting nearly as much while you're using it."
Placing both items back in the cloth bag, He finally held up what was obviously a handheld radio, and a set of earmuffs.
"This is the AN/PRC-255. It's a radio, and might as well work with Angry Pixies. I know it's got a 60 mile range, and hops frequencies, and the Comms nerds have some kind of black magic ritual to make them work. The hearing protection doesn't have some letter-and-number name, but they hook up to the radio, and they'll also link up to other headsets nearby like the FVS to communicate without radio. The Radio isn't nearly as impressive as the FVS, and the hearing protection hasn't changed in a meaningful way in about a hundred years. 3M is the Browning of comms gear, I swear. And, that's petty much it."
I looked at the neat pile of equipment sitting next to the carbine, and looked down at my hands, realizing I had nothing to carry any of it with, before looking up at Gutierrez.
"Is it alright if you carry some of this, I don't think I can carry it a-" I said, before I was cut off by laughter from Sgt Johnson.
"Nooooooo, no kid." The sergeant said, wiping tears from his eyes. "This all stays here unless you actually imminently need it. It's assigned to you now, but it stays under lock and key." he explained, while Gutierrez seemed to look simultaneously aghast and about to burst into laughter. My abbreviated training had failed to explain a few things, it seemed, as I had simply assumed that they had locked up our equipment because we were were trainees.
"See, everything in here is either VERY killy, or VERY expensive. And Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines around Earth all have a penchant for shenanigans, and breaking anything they touch. Occasionally themselves too, if left entirely unsupervised with dangerous objects. So we don't let any of you have things which can be described as 'Killy', 'Expensive', or 'Killy and Expensive' unless it's specifically pertaining to the task at hand, Rah?"
"I, uh, see yeah. Rah?" I replied, somewhat dejectedly, and slightly confused.
"Rah." The Sergeant said in reply, and began to load all of the 'Killy and expensive' equipment back onto the metal cart, chuckling to himself still, as Gutierrez tapped me on the shoulder.
"Hey, chow's in about an hour, let's get you back to the barracks so you can get your OCUU's on, and outta those class-B's right?"
"Yeah, that sounds good, I don't think I've eaten since before I arrived at the Orbital, I'm starving" I said, as I followed the Spaceborne Infantry Marine out of the Armory's door, and back down the passageway to the berthing areas of Grunt Country.

2024.05.15 08:57 Shoddy_While_6142 How Did Moreyball and Advanced analytics contribute to the Three-Point Revolution of the 2010s

How Did Moreyball and Advanced analytics contribute to the Three-Point Revolution of the 2010s
Shooting a below league average 34% from three-point range results in more points scored per 100 possessions than shooting an extremely efficient 50% from closer two-point range shots (NBA League Averages – Per Game, Basketball Reference). This simple fact was the number one driving force in Daryl Morey’s basketball philosophy.
The three-point line was added to the NBA in the year 1979, during Larry Birds rookie season. He quickly took to the shot and added it to his scoring arsenal, and despite taking an extremely small number of three-point shots compared to the leagues current shooting pace, was the first three-point shooting pioneer (Starjacki, Basketball Network), The next evolution in the three-point shot was the shortening of the line to a uniform 22 feet throughout. This lasted from 1994-97 and resulted in the data graphed in Figure. 1 below.

The NBA introduced this rule change to increase PPG throughout the league, as you can see, this change had an inverse effect (Burgess II, Red Bull). The rule was changed back, but it had a lasting effect, as players three-point conditioning improved, and coaches kept running plays focusing on three-point shooting. Figure 2, pictured below, shows how the number of three-point attempts per game continued to increase exponentially in the following seasons.
https://preview.redd.it/2dgjp2s0gj0d1.png?width=827&format=png&auto=webp&s=200b32d5a7271b8a173e73065e340034844eab92

Shea, Stephen. “The Three Point Revolution.” 2018. Shot Tracker, shottracker.com/articles/the-3-point-revolution.
One of those early coaches who prioritized shooting the three-ball was Mike D'Antoni. His trailblazing philosophy was known as the “Seven seconds or less offence” (Koch, 2adays News). This game plan was first introduced to the Phoenix Suns playbook in the 2004-2005 season following the addition of Steve Nash, a three-point sharpshooter (2004-05 Phoenix Suns Transactions, Basketball Reference). In the following season, their win rate went from 35,4% (2003-2004 NBA Standings, Basketball Reference) to a league best 75,6% (2004-2005 NBA Standings, Basketball Reference). In a league era often referred to as the “Dead-Ball Era”, with defenses being the focus and league average PPG at an all-time low, this new, high pace offence broke defenses at the time. The Suns averaged 110,4 PPG during the 2004-05 season, while the league average at the time was 97,2 (2004-05 NBA Season Summary, Basketball Reference). The same trend can be seen with their pace, which was 96, while the league average at the time was 90 (2004-05 NBA Season Summary, Basketball Reference). Mike D'Antoni made the league realize that a higher pace offence prioritizing three pointers led to winning basketball.
But the three-point era could not truly begin until the dynasties of old were finished. The Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich led teams, prioritizing classic big man basketball and slow offensive pace were still winning championships, as were the Kobe and Pau Gasol led teams of the late 2000s (The 2000's - Kobe or Duncan Era, RealGM). Together the two low volume three-point teams accounted for 10 out of 15 championships won between 1999 to 2014 and 13 out of 15 finals appearances (NBA Champions by Year, Fox Sports). The Lakers and Spurs still experienced success due to the lack of experienced three-point shooters in the league, and the raw talent and star power of their rosters.
The GSW (Golden State Warriors) dynasty began following the dismantling of these teams due to retirement and trades. Following the Warriors drafting of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, two three-point shooting specialists who are cited as the two greatest shooters of all time, and hiring of coach Steve Kerr, one of the greatest three-point shooters of the 1990s, the team began seeing unprecedented success in a league-wide era of high parity (Olojede and Hay, Complex). The Warriors went from a team with a 35%-win rate (2011-2012 NBA Standings, Basketball Reference) to a team with an 81,5%-win rate (2014-15 NBA Standings, Basketball Reference) in the span of 2 years, from 2012 to 2014. By the 2014-15 NBA Season, teams were more likely to shoot a three-point shot than a mid-range one, for the first time in league history (Shea, Shot Tracker).
During the 2015-16 season, the Warriors had the winningest NBA season of all time, having a 73 win and 9 loss record (2015-16 NBA Standings, Basketball Reference). This was the tipping point, and in the next 5 years three pointers attempted per game increased from around 19 to 30 (Fig. 2 above). Mike D'Antoni was still a vital centerpiece to this, as he coached James Harden who led the Houston Rockets. Harden is considered one of the 3 greatest shooters of all time (3PM All Time Leaders, NBA). Both the Warriors and Rockets achieved amazing success, with the Warriors winning 4 championships and making 6 finals in a 7-year span (NBA Champions by Year, Fox Sports). Daryl Morey, inventor of the Morey ball philosophy, was the GM of the Rockets at this time, and he created the three-point centric rosters built around sharpshooter James Harden (Ballard, Sports Illustrated). His Houston Rockets hired Mike D'Antoni to help build a strong offensive playbook built around three pointers, as he had previously proved his capability of doing on the Suns (O'Connor, Sports Illustrated). The D'Antoni Rockets completely avoided the mid-range shot, and under him they went from three pointers accounting for 1/3 of their shots to almost half (O'Connor, Sports Illustrated).
In today's league, three-point shooting dominates, with sharpshooters being highly valued and needed on any team looking to achieve legitimate title contention. During the 2023-2024 season, 37% of shots taken were from three-point range (Zillgitt, USA Today), and only 12% were taken from mid-range (Martin, NBA). This data clearly shows the impact analytics have had on the game, showing how data analysis led to the death of the mid-range. This graph below, compares three-point percentage and win rate percentage:
https://preview.redd.it/52d0ipz2gj0d1.png?width=752&format=png&auto=webp&s=3875dc274c9207a7eeec6f8b56bfcb3db483c2fe
Created by Author, Data from: (2023-2024 NBA Season Summary, Basketball Reference).
This data clearly shows that as a three-point percent increases, so does win rate, with very few outliers, none being extreme.
In conclusion, I have found that Daryl Morey, the GSW, and Mike D'Antoni were the main contributors towards the three-point revolution. D'Antoni was involved every step along the way and has been in the background of [almost every]() evolution in three pointers in the last 30 years. Morey ball had less of an impact then I previously thought, but Morey’s work on advanced analytics led to his aggressive pursual of James Harden and his eventual trading to the Rockets, as his philosophy led to him seeing his true value in the numbers before anyone else could. The Warriors proved that a team built around three-point shooting could experience unprecedented success in an era of all time high league wide parity and showed that a dynasty is still possible.

2024.05.15 08:22 OrneryMousse5297 love bombed

i just felt the need to rant because I have nowhere else to rant to 😭 For context I’m 16 F and I was talking to a boy last year late December and I was being love bombed. He led me on for 3 weeks then on the 4th he just completely started ignoring me. I’m still sad about it until this day and I’ve been stalking him and I know it’s unhealthy but idk why I keep on going back to his posts. Anyways he’s with a new girl. Doing all the same things that we did together and it just hurts so badly. I don’t know why I’m still not over this and can’t give myself some peace but I just feel so betrayed and hurt. And what hurts even more is this boy didn’t even give me 3 sentences after all I wrote to him expressing how I felt when he starting ghosting me. He just said something along the lines of “sorry I made you feel that way and sorry I hurt you” or something like that… anyways seeing him kissing this other girl in the PhotoBooth we took photos in makes me want to die. And the happiness he gave me, I don’t think I’ll ever feel that way towards a boy again. He ruined it.

2024.05.15 08:11 SliceCompetitive8024 FULL HERO LIST TIER LIST

FULL HERO LIST TIER LIST
Hello all and with the addition of the self selected heroes and finally being able to read their skills and test them all (besides Eren but based on his Kit I still gave him a fair rating imho) I figured what better time to put together an actual tier list for new and existing players to reference!! I will put explanations below for each hero based on tier:
Ichigo/Naruto: There are no better DPS units that also have self sustainability at this stage in the games cycle (luffy could also go in this tier although I personally don’t find his damage output as high which is what landed him in S Tier)
“S-Tier” Gojo Saturo: Crit aura buff + Self sustainable with a great exclusive weapon making him easily the best Support class unit in the game
Kokushibo: Similar to Gojo he offers a crit buff but his is permanent making him the only unit with such a passive right now! The catch is he does have to die and come back to be viable so be mindful of this. Plus his buffs get reset every wave in stages so you have to bring a healer with him if using him there.
Monkey D. Luffy: Luffy could arguably be on the main focus tier with Ichigo/Naruto and I wouldn’t blame you for putting him there! He has a 100% self heal but his damage (imo) leave a bit to be desired but not so much you drop him down as much as some other units in this list (see Sukuna in “A Tier”), reckless eligible
Son Goku: Amazing AOE damage healer with a passive self cleanse due to his super saiyan passive at 8 ⭐️ plus the damage buff from his base passive place alongside his “reckless” meta eligiblity place him firmly in S tier!
Vegito: Reckless Meta eligible, stacks single target damage buff, plus a cool crit conversion passive, can also do “fatal” damage which blocks unyielding and revive effects! great single target nuker
Shanks: Single target silencer, great damage output and exclusive weapon, increases combo rate when 16 ⭐️
Zoro: Does increased damage to Low HP targets, decreases enemy energy, great single target nuker, reckless eligible
Aizen: Blocks debuffs for entire ally team, fear inducing attacks at 8 ⭐️, AOE attacker, solid support
“A-Tier” Athena: Best pure healer, blessing + damage reduction effects, usable in all content
Jiraiya: Unuielding effect, good back row support, reckless eligible so great alongside z Zamasu, arguably best tank for early/mid game
Itachi Uchia: Great for reckless hero support with or without zamasu, pincer attack passive (for reckless units) , solid single target damage but not on the level of anyone in S tier or even some A tier damage dealers
Majin Buu: Good unit to focus biggest damage threat on enemy team due to passive (Taunt), armor breaker, reduces energy enemy by 100%
Kaidou: Healing Reduction, Stunner, Self reviver (23% only, 8 ⭐️+ only), good back line support due to high Defense
Beerus: Focus fire passive, Reckless eligible, crit buff based on either side death, great single damage dealer
Arthas: Grants revive when there are no revive hero’s, Damage reduction, high defense good back line
Eren Jaeger: Great damage output, self stacking crit buff similar to Vegito but AOE attacker, cannot recieve buffs in exchange for his 15% damage bonus is why he dropped a bit
Ryomen Sukuna: Fear and Vulnerable eligible skills, reckless eligible, HIGHLY reliant on RNG. If his passive had a higher activation rate he would’ve easily been S tier and on the higher end of it. Still a great single damage dealer for a Support type unit
“B-Tier” Sasuke Uchia: Dot Meta, great pairing for Vegeta, decent but not great single target damage when not in the right comp but high potential when used correctly!
Vegeta: Extremely similar to Sasuke with an added self cleanse due to his Super Saiyan passive (only at full rampage stacks)
Boa Hancock: Neutralizes back row and increases ally output, damage reduction, crit buff at 16 ⭐️
“C-Tier” Pain: Skill damage increases over time, healing reduction, vulnerable effect attacks
Zamasu: Zamasu is arguably the most “unique” unit in the game considering you can’t even trigger the second effect of his active skill until he’s 8 ⭐️ and even then you need 2+ reckless type hero’s to make him enter the divine state. If he wasn’t so damn conditional he could’ve easily been a B tier unit (imo)

2024.05.15 08:08 Mister-no-tongue Extra stuff for my homebrew campaign

So I made a homebrew campaign a while back and wanted to add some extra stuff to it for those who may not know the campaign is basically your characters larping and collecting the golden items of the legends aka just grabbing junk. New bosses and locations will be added to this please enjoy.
Locations
Carnival of fools(local Carnival)
Please enjoy the rides that are ready to collapse just by one sneeze, the games which might be rigged and the food which might be edible.
While at the Carnival of fools you can play a game to win a prize from the item table in the book. Either you can have the player do saving roll to see if they win whatever game they play or you can kick up a notch and have the player beat you at a game.
If you decide to have the player beat you at a game use a bag or object that can hold peices of paper. On the peice of paper it will have the name of a card, video or board game on it(do try to make the games short) the player and DM(you) will then play set game if the player beats you they gain a prize and if they fail nothing happens other then SHAME. But if you want to add a little challenge have the player roll a D20. If the number is between 1-5 without any modifiers or re-rolls it will active. it was rigged effect.
Hey it's a carnival what do you expect? When active the player who challenged you now has a new challenges such has starting with extra cards or whatever the DM chooses to be the effect. Note the effect is optional.
Stores
While wondering around the party may come across some stores. Either it being a fast food joint or clothing store. These locations will have a better chance carrying the items the store is designed for so don't expect a cheese burger at videogame location.
Boss and items
Now the big stuff
Minotaur(football jock)
His rage is high and his school spirit is also.
Defeating the Minotaur while grant the party the legendary pig skin(a football that is in a repair) this item can be used with any class. While the player carries it they may use the charge action. The player runs in a straight line up to 20ft and will stop if they hit a creature the player then rolls a Strength saving throw. 5-10 the creature falls prone,11-15 the creature takes unarmed damaged, 16-20 the creature takes unarmed damage and falls prone. If the player rolls a 4 and below the player will fall prone instead. Did you slip in some mud?
Druid(Park ranger)(subclass may be your choice)
Did you just litter?
When defeated your party is rewarded with the book of wild shape(its just a book on local animals) if there is a Druid in your party they may use the item to gain an new animal form the animal must be equal to their current level(best use it when at a higher level.)

2024.05.15 08:05 Quirky-swaggurl-420 I have no idea where to work and my appearance doesn’t help, any advice??

Kind of long, but any advice or input would be greatly appreciated :)
I (22F) have been working in fast food/ retail since I was 17 and I’m finally ready to take that leap to leave my current job and find one that will help advance my career and give me at least some financial stability. I also live in NorCal for context (not sure if I’d be willing to move quite yet.) I’ve been at my current retail job since 2021 and was honestly just going to stay there until I was completely finished with college but I just received my AA and the current management im under is so difficult to work with and extremely offensive I can barely take it not to mention I’ve been in management for about 2 years now and have gone from at least 20hr a week (part time) to less than 10hr a week, less than some associates and they’re all 3 hour shifts so I’m not even allowed to take a 10min break though im not even sure if that’s legal??
I am very fortunate to not have to pay rent as I live with my parents and I only have to worry about paying for my car, gas, phone, school, necessity’s etc. So no rent is a life saver in this economy. With that being said I don’t necessarily need the highest paying job quite yet (willing to work my way up or gain helpful experience) though that would be ideal for anyone. I just want to be able to find something that fits with my personality/ needs and also doesn’t care the way I look. I know sometimes you have to do what u gotta do but I cannot take working somewhere I’m miserable at and I understand that is a privilege within itself so I’m just trying to use the time I do have to really find what I’m passionate about and not be scared to try new things.
I still want to go back to school to get my bachelors degree since it’s always been a dream of mine, but since I pretty much pay for everything out of pocket besides some degree of financial aide, I don’t want to just aimlessly transfer somewhere with no clue on what to study which has been my issues for some time. I feel like my interest haven’t changed much and neither have my dreams to further my education so I’ve pretty much been saying the same things since probably before high school and I still have no clue what exactly the direction is I should go. I would love to gain some first hang experience to know if getting my B.A. is even worth it for the field I want to go into or what major would benefit me the best.
I have many interests and ideas as to what I could possibly do but I feel like as much as I say them out loud no one really relates so I always feel alone or like there’s no possible job for me that I’ll feel happy in. I mean I think majority of people would rather not work and focus their lives on their hobbies and passions but unfortunately that’s not in the cards for most people and though I sometimes live in that dreamland that doesn’t change the fact that I’m extremely dedicated, hard-working and really want to make a difference in whatever field I end up in. So I guess I’ll leave a list of the things I’m interested in, in case anybody has some advice or input on any occupations I’ve listed or have experience in anything I’ve listed.
I guess another thing to mention is that I was recently applying to a lot of jobs in childcare and pretty much every interview I went to turn me down on the spot because of my appearance. Of course I hear the stories of looking less professional due to your tattoos, piercings, etc., which I never understand. I don’t even have a single tattoo or piercing, not even my ears, but I have bright pink hair and that has been such a downside for the interviewing processes, even some retail jobs like Box Lunch for example doesn’t accept colored hair when they’re literally a pop culture store and share the same company as Hot Topic. I don’t want to have to change my appearance for a job. I know it’s just hair but I was never able to express myself the way I wanted to and the amount of money and maintenance that goes with having colored hair would not be worth it to me to color black just to get a job. It would feel like I’m altering myself and changing something that makes me feel good about myself is unfair and already puts a bad taste in my mouth about the company because they are willing to look over my qualifications and work ethic due to one minor detail in my appearance. One of these jobs I even had two on the phone interviews that went amazing and was going to my final in person interview and was literally meeting with a family for a behavioral technician job and the first thing they (the company) told me was I would need to change my hair to even be considered and I had to eventually politely end the interview because they still wanted to me to meet a kid despite straight up telling me they will not hire me if I didn’t immediately change my hair… and I’d be working with a family, not even in a ‘ public setting.’ I would just love to be able to work in a community that embraces people for their differences for the way they express themselves, and encourages self expression.
Anyways, here are some of my interests and I’d be eternally grateful to hear any feedback! Maybe you’ve worked in some of these environments and have advice or horror stories, if you have similar interests to me let me know what kind of job you have because I’m sure I don’t even know the formal titles to half of these jobs, or even have other ideas that match my interests. Thank you thank you thank you!
TLDR: I have so many interests and have no idea where to go with my next steps in my career and schooling, and would love some advice based off of my interest and experience. My unnaturally colored hair gets me nowhere. My experience and interests are listed below.
My schooling/ experience so far: * 5 years of theatre under my belt (onstage/backstage/management) * Just graduated with my AA in Social & Behavioral Sciences (Random but was recommended to do so based on all of the same interest I told my counselor some odd years ago) * Most of my college classes were focused in sociology, psychology, and child development, which has been super interesting so I am willing to branch out from my interest because I did find a lot of interest in the classes I’ve taken previously. * Have worked in retail for four years; Pretty well received by people * A nanny to 4 kids (ages 4-16) for about 3.5 years as well
My personality: (not sure if this will help with knowing if I would be a good fit for any of the jobs listed )
i’m extremely bubbly and can have my extroverted moments, but I can also be introverted at times and when work needs to get done, I will figure out the best way to do it and get to work. I work pretty well with a team and always have ideas flowing and bouncing around, but I can also excel working on my own/have no issues being independent with my work. I don’t have a huge preference on a fast versus slow paced work environment. I would like something flexible, but I have no issue with getting into a routine. I feel like I am truly pretty flexible when it comes to my work environment, I just really want a place that I can express myself and be surrounded by a community of people similar to me. I love to be innovative and creative.
My interests/ ideas: (sorry kinda random and jumps around)
As you can see, most of my interest have to do with childcare and the arts, which are some of the lowest paying jobs/difficult fields to get into, but it’s what I most passionate about and what I can actually see myself being happy doing for a long time. i’m also not opposed to working in one certain field for a while and then branching out to something different or related further down the line, I just want to know what step I should take next so I’m not just floating around doing nothing and being/fill, I just want to know what step I should take next so I’m not just floating around doing nothing and being/feeling useless.
Thank you so much to anyone who responds with advice and kind words :)

2024.05.15 07:48 ACertainThrowawayTag A Brief Review of Trails of Cold Steel IV: Finale- A New Era

Previous Post-
A Brief Review of Trails of Cold Steel IV: Act Three- A Worthy Rivalry by inFalcom
Introduction- This feels like a major turning point for the series. The various revelations about the forces behind what caused the Hamel tragedy and subsequent war with Liberl that are so critical to understanding Sky, the various incidents in Crossbell that were both linked to and related to both Erebonia and Ouroboros' plans, and of course the mammoth, four game Cold Steel arc. There may be Reverie after this to contend with, but for all intents and purposes, this feels like the end of a major part of the series. On a personal level, having played each game in the series in order, essentially back to back, since I started Sky in November, this feels bittersweet. I have a post planned for after I finish Reverie that goes a little bit more into this, but suffice to say I feel like I've been on an incredible journey, and yet I still want more.
With all that out of the way, what do I think of the Finale of Cold Steel 4, Cold Steel 4 as a whole, and perhaps even all of the Cold Steel arc? Well, I might do a separate post about the Cold Steel arc, but... Cold Steel 4 is really good. In spite of some of its pacing, and the way it sometimes just flings stuff out there with little explanation and you don't hear about it again (sometimes it comes up again, sometimes it doesn't), I really enjoyed Cold Steel 4. I think it's my third favourite game in the franchise.
But first and foremost, some pros and cons for the finale.
Pros- -The Hamel sidequest Really nice, as opposed to the Crossbell sidequest which hinged on the least interesting member of the original SSS, it does a good job of (quite literally) putting the ghosts of Hamel to rest. The interactions between Ash and Joshua are great, and I liked how some of Loewe's residual spirit came back too. We'll never see him resurrected, but since this series has long established that residual conciseness stays behind (and also the existence of the beyond and Loewe's link to a sword made by its rules), it was was a nice little touch.
-The entire final area From the Salt Pales, to Tuatha de Danann, to the final fight with Ishmelga Loge, I could not have asked for a better send off to the Cold Steel arc. I think in general it was well paced- about as long as Azure and CS2's final dungeons- and the final area itself was designed in such an enigmatic yet fascinating way. The Liber Ark's still better though.
-McBurn What to say about McBurn? Arguably the most important lore dump we've ever gotten in the series, the stuff that implies the human he fused with *might* be Epstein, the stuff he remembered at the end seemingly relating to something the Grandmaster and Campanella did, and of course The Beyond and the 'Possible World'. Seemingly endless complexities and lore implications that both add too what we already know, and yet leave so, so many more questions. Here's my one. If Aidos truly didn't create the Beyond
then who did?
-Ouroboros I risk being controversial here, but I truly love Ouroboros' outing in Cold Steel, and this is a fitting send off, finally getting them in a position where they have to at least give a vague explanation for what they're doing that goes beyond 'it's all going to plan'- leaving a lot open, but also with more of a target for theories and ideas. I think it's made absolutely clear that their open nature as an organisation is entirely by design (of course helped by that final scene with the Grandmaster), and I can't wait to see what they do next.
-Earn Your Happy Ending There's a trope on TV Tropes by this name and. Yeah. After all the shit they've been through, Class 7 and Rean definitely earned this. It's a bit sappy, and perhaps a little bit too cheesy, but I don't mind it.
Cons- -Does everyone really need to speak? Whilst I like the finale as a whole, it felt like every time we were about to face a new boss, literally all of the 16 or so characters in the party had to chime in with the same line every time. It got old quick, and represents some of the sins of Cold Steels writing, where it can get pretty repetitive after a while.
-The Crossbell sidequest It was nice to see Diana MacDowell finally reunite with her daughter, and the stuff about the devil only targeting women is some pretty interesting lore, and perhaps a set up for future games (the Calvard arc), the same as quite a lot of the stuff from near the end of the game that didn't directly deal with the final bosses- but other than that the sidequest just didn't hit the mark I wanted it too. Again, it focused too much on the least interesting member of the SSS, and didn't do much of anything to make her more interesting. Shame really.
-That goofy portrait of you and your lover after the credits Did they need to make it any more obvious how tacked on the romance system in these games were? Couldn't even commission art that made it look like the other photos on Rean's desk, just a generic 3d rendering? Come on now lol. This is the most petty of petty grievances but it did stick with me.
Conclusion- This finale was great. It had a lot riding on it, but I think it managed to do good with what it needed to do. I'm certainly looking forward to Reverie, to see some things cleared up more, and to bridge the gap between the Crossbell and Erebonia arcs and the Calvard arcs, and whatever might come after it. However, there is still one more thing I need to do here.
Conclusion on Cold Steel 4 as a whole- A game of many faces. From the brilliance of Act One, Act Three and the Finale, some beautiful character moments and bonding events, to the somewhat mediocre Act Two, the romance system, and some of the story explanations as a whole, it doesn't take a genius to see why Cold Steel 4 is so divisive. Me I fall on the 'it's really good in spite of its issues' side of the divide. I think the curse is a good idea, if done better in other places (Fullmetal Alchemist for instance, with a very similar resolution in both cases), that isn't presented that well and thus might cause more confusion than if they'd spent more time properly fleshing it out.
Like I said, I think it's my third favourite game in the series, behind only Azure and Sky SC, and it deserves its flowers. That being said, I think there's a pretty sizeable gap between what I think of Azure and what I think of CS4, and I hope Reverie will rectify some of the issues I have with the game. It's been an honour to have your readership across the Cold Steel arc, it's been a mammoth task, especially with my reviews that I try and do each time I finish a section of the game, but I think it's been very worthwhile.
I'm probably jumping right into Reverie, but until then, I hop you enjoyed reading, and see you next time.

2024.05.15 07:10 bomphcheese Possible bug in PHP itself? All properties of object are deleted after comparison (===) is called.

I am running into a REALLY odd issue, and my best guess is that it's a bug within PHP itself. When comparing (===) the value of a property on one object with the value of a property on another object, all the values of the properties on one of the objects are deleted.

From the top

I'm editing a Post model, and running the update method on form submit

Routing

Route-model binding works as expected, and the correct controller method is called.
Route::patch('/posts/{id}/update', [PostController::class, 'update']) ->name('post.update');

PostController@update

public function update(UpdatePostRequest $request, Post $post) :RedirectResponse { // A quick test here that will become relevant in a moment // dd(request()->user()->id === $post->user_id); // true // Results in 403 if (request()->user()->cannot('edit', $post)) abort(403); . . . }

PostPolicy@edit

The cannot() method will call the PostPolicy class to check if the user can "edit" the $post. The if statement is false despite the fact that the values being compared are identical.
/** * Determine if "$user" can perform "edit" on "$post" */ public function edit(User $user, Post $post) :bool { if ($post->user_id === $user->id) { // Expecting this to return return $user->can('edit.own_posts'); } else{ // Always gets returned return $user->can('edit.posts'); } }
Note: I have verified all roles and permissions are properly assigned, although that isn't really relevant to the issue I'm seeing.

The Problem

In the above function, checking the value of $user and $post BEFORE the if statement yields exactly the values that are expected ... $post->user_id is strictly equal (===) to $user->id.
However, checking the value of $post from within the if statement block, reveals that all the properties on $post are empty. They all just disappeared.
Here are the results of various dd() (dump() and die()) calls.
public function edit(User $user, Post $post) :bool { dd($user->id); // int 112 dd($post->user_id); // int 112 dd($user->id == $post->user_id); // true dd($user->id === $post->user_id); // true // What if accessing the property is what causes it to become null? // Let's dump it twice. dd($post->user_id, $post->user_id) // int 112, int 112 // After the comparison, all properties of // $post are empty if ($post->user_id === $user->id) { return $user->can('edit.own_posts'); } else{ dd($user->id); // int 112 dd($post->user_id); // null dd($user->id == $post->user_id); // false dd($user->id === $post->user_id); // false return $user->can('edit.posts'); } }

It Gets Weirder

This one is really throwing me off. If, and only if, I place a dd() inside the if block, it will execute as if the comparison resulted in true, but will not execute if I remove the dd().
public function edit(User $user, Post $post) :bool { if ($post->user_id === $user->id) { // This line executes when present. Removing it will cause // the `else` block to execute. dd($user->id, $post->user_id); // int 112, null return $user->can('edit.own_posts'); } else{ // This line only executes if you remove the dd() above return $user->can('edit.posts'); } }
No matter what I do, the second return statement is the only one I can get to execute. But just for fun, let's try inverting the logic.
public function edit(User $user, Post $post) :bool { if ($post->user_id !== $user->id) { // Always executes return $user->can('edit.posts'); } else{ return $user->can('edit.own_posts'); } }
For visual reference, here is the dd($post) result before the comparison call.
https://i.sstatic.net/gzA8RkIz.png
And here it is again called from within the if block.
https://i.sstatic.net/4aYluG9L.png
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before, or have any ideas what could be causing it? Thanks in advance for your help.

2024.05.15 07:04 Responsible_Ask_2713 Why We're Here.

I have been following Rooster Teeth since i was in fifth grade in 2006. I grew up with them in my lives for the past 18 years and i will sorely miss their antics. So let me give my own retrospective answer on the famous question; "Do you ever wonder, why are we here?"
The reason why you were here was to fill my life with joy. to teach me to not take the harshness of reality too seriously, and that it can be the best of fun to take completely harmless things absolutely seriously. The reason we are here is to learn from those we choose to follow the example of. and i am so glad that so many people who've worked at RT through the years have been so awesome and fun. I want to thank every single person who has worked at or for RoosterTeeth and all its subsidiaries for all the joy they have brought me. I want to thank every fan, viewer, and gamer that has enjoyed their content as i go on to ask my one favor.
I don't want to forget anything as it all shuts down. I want to remember every memorable line like Michael and Gavin going "Happy Christmas Harry" and "Da Bubble Shield Brotects Me From Bolderbort" in Halo 3 Laso, to Andy proudly proclaiming that "No word in the English language starts with G.H." on on the spot. Please tell me all of your favorite goofs, gaffs, FISH!, CHEESE! and other lines and episodes that live rent free in your head, because right now i can't stop thinking about how windy it is outside today and i am tripping hard on nostalgia vibes.

2024.05.15 06:59 Unlucky_Dog_8907 I (f22) am really struggling with my partner’s (nb22) lack of social awareness. It’s ruining our life but I love them. What can I do?

The context is that my partner is a really sweet, amazing, kind, generous, caring person. They are every kind thing you could say about somebody. They are incredibly book smart and have multiple degrees and are going for their law degree on top of all the degrees and certificates they already have. It’s exceptional. The problem is, and I am trying to say this in the nicest way possible. My partner is seriously bad with social skills and comes off as ‘dumb’, ‘cringeworthy’, ‘childish’ and oblivious at times. They will seriously just blurt out anything that comes to their mind and do anything in public. No matter how embarrassing it is. A small example of this is that one time we walked into a bar and my partner got super excited about the cool decor. There was chains hanging from the ceiling and and coffin shaped tv screen installed in the wall with some cool graphic in it. Upon seeing this as we walked in they got so excited they threw their arms into the air and yelled “AHHHHHHH!” And ran over to the chains and started swinging around on them, knocking into a nearby table that a couple was sitting at. After this, they threw their hands up in the air again and yelled “YIPPIEEEEE” as they ran over to the coffin and banged on it with their fist so hard that it actually flashed black and for a second I thought they had broken it. EVERYONE in the bar was looked at me crazy and the security guard had to pick up the mess with table and the drinks my partner just made. It was like a bad ass toddler has just gone loose in the bar and I imagine people just assumed they were way drunk but they were 100% sober. When they returned to me the first words out of my mouth “sit your ass down what the fuck is your problem?” And they immediately bursted out in tears. Because another problem they have is that they are INCREDIBLY sensitive to criticism. They cannot handle one ounce of even constructive criticism, even if it’s said in the most way gentle possible way they will start to cry.
Honestly, I’m not use to dating people my age. I moved out my house and have been on my own living as an adult since I was 16. Typically you will see me with someone ranging from 24-27. My partner is the first person my age I have been with. But, I understand that becoming a lawful adult at 16 is not a universal experience so that’s why they are a bit immature but they are a good person with a good heart which is not easy to come across nowadays so I am willing to wait and be patient with then until they mature a bit more.
My biggest problem with them though is talking to strangers. My mom taught me at a young age about stranger danger and have admittedly had a pretty traumatic life so I am very cautious about who I trust. It is as if my partner is a toddler who has never once been told not to speak to a stranger. They will tell ANYBODY ANYTHING. No shame or reservations or even the idea that the person might be uncomfortable. They will tell the waiter about the wild sex we just had in DETAIL. They will trap the cashier into a 30 minute conversation when the line is piling up and the poor cashier doesn’t want to know every single detail about whatever. And, it’s not even typically a conversation because it’s just my girlfriend yapping without giving the other person time to say anything. They will treat someone they just met less than 5 minutes like someone they’ve known for years and get into people’s personal space. An example of this would be that one time they stopped a girl in the street to compliment them but then it turned into the usual 30 minute yap sesh. My partner got very excited about whatever they were yapping about and for some reason they decided to suddenly press their forehead to this strangers forehead to express their point. I could see the poor girl get visibly frightened so I yanked my partner back out of instinct to protect not only the girl but my partner to whatever reaction the girl might have. Being completely oblivious to the fact that my partner might’ve just got their shit rocked for triggering this stranger they spun around and said something like “OMG BABE you are SO JEALOUS AND CONTROLLING HAHA SHE IS NOT GOING TO STEAL ME” I wanted to shout “dude, nobody WANTS TO STEAL you. You are EMBARRASSING.” But I didn’t want to embarrass my partner so I threw my hands up and walked away silently.
I’ve tried to talk to them about this. I told them a story my mother use to tell me about a very friendly pretty baby that would wave at everyone until she waved at the wrong stranger and got kidnapped. I explained to them that you can’t just assume everyone has good intentions and you definitely can’t predict what will upset someone so it’s best to keep out of strangers personal space and to never share unnecessary information. They see this as if I am trying to steal their ‘light’ or that I am jealous.
This behavior has not only put us in danger in the past but it is now affecting our living situation. Because the one year mark we decided we wanted to move in together. We found the most gorgeous beautiful lake house that was actually an airbnb but the lady liked us so much she was willing to let us stay long and remove the place from airbnb. It was a godsend. The problem is that on the same land there is 4 other properties just a few feet away from us that the landlord rents as airbnbs so we see all kinds of shady or weird people everyday.
I guess, one day when I wasn’t around my gf told a guest about our living arrangement in detail and the guest tried to ask the landlord for the same thing and when the landlord denied it the guest became aggressive and started bringing my gf’s name the details that they were told into the conversation. The landlord reached out to us and showed us the conversation and the guest was threatening us and her with violence. She asked that we keep the fact that we even live on the property to ourselves. It was a very scary situation and I really thought that my partner learned their lesson about strangers.
But, they didn’t. I’m traveling out of town for work and I guess there was a break in on one of the of the properties. The landlord was reviewing the security cameras when they caught my partner telling another guest about the details of our lease again. They wanted to call my partner and speak to them on the phone to express how serious it is that they do not share details about our lease but I guess when confronted about it, my partner lied and said they didn’t say anything. I guess partner didn’t realize they had been caught in 4K.
The landlord was really upset not only that partner lied but went against her wishes of keeping the agreement to themselves once I calmed the landlord down I phoned my partner but by the time I got ok the phone with my partner I was honestly incredibly irritated. I didn’t raise my voice but I was firm and harsh and told them that the oversharing behavior and it has got to stop. I said “really, how hard is it just to keep your mouth shut when our safety is at risk?” I told them they need to look at going to therapy for this behavior.
They became so agitated they started screaming and crying at me “I AM NOT ENOUGH FOR YOU!!” (What? No one even said that!) & “I DONT EVEN CARE ABOUT THIS STUPID HOUSE ILL JUST LEAVE!” (Ez for you to say you haven’t subleased your apartment and moved all your belongings into here yet)
I let them know that we both should take a breather from the convo and now I’m sitting here with my head in my hands, wondering what to do. I know that this is a long read and many people might not make it this far, but if you’ve made it this far, I could really use some advice. I don’t want to talk to my friends and family, because I don’t want them to form a bad opinion about my partner. I feel like I’m dating a child and then I have to correct them like a parent but I don’t want to break up because they are just so good to me outside of this. Please anyone help.

2024.05.15 06:56 JansenTempest Prebuilt advice

Hello.
I'm looking to buy a prebuilt pc. I don't know much about pc building so I'm probably gonna go for a prebuilt one. I don't know yet.
**What will you be doing with this PC?
Light-medium gaming;
The game that I'm gonna play most of the times is Asphalt 9. Currently I play this game at windowed mode at lowest graphics at 40 FPS so I'm looking to improve all of these.
Other games would be;
-Honkai Impact 3rd / Honkai Star Rail / Genshin Impact (These maybe at low graphics but with at least good FPS at full screen)
-Android emulator or Google Play PC client
**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?*\*
I live in Mexico so it would be around $12,000 - 15,000 mexican pesos. Approximately $700 - 800 USD
**When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
I'd like to have it around July-August.
**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc\)*\*
If I can land a good monitor as well that'd be perfect. The rest are not that important.
**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?*\*
I live in Mexico, Mexico State and there are no physical stores nearby where I can buy parts so everything has to be online.
**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.*\*
The PC I'm currently using won't be reused as it's going to be gifted to another person.
**Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?*\*
Nope.
**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)*\*
Maybe a fan to reduce heat. It's very hot in my area.
A certified power supply that I'd like to have in case the one that is inluded in the prebuilt fails.
**Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?*\*
I'd prefer no LED lights at all or the option to turn them off.
**Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?*\*
I will need Windows 10 to work.
**Extra info or particulars:**
Here are some links of prebuilt pc options. These are from Amazon Mexico and MercadoLibre, two sites where I might purchase the PC. Any advice of what to choose will be greatly appreciated!

Although I said I'd go for a prebuilt, I might consider learning to build one as long as the parts are cheaper than the prebuilt pc. Suggestions are welcome as well as sites where I can buy parts that ship to Mexico.
