2024.06.09 20:00 sameed_adifference between script and mental representation?
I'm plucking away at my keyboard, mindlessly typing out the script for my new indie movie. Honestly, this is the third script I've written this year and I can tell you, it is vastly different from the mental representations I've built about it in my mind. It all started with a brilliant idea, which in my head was this cinematic masterpiece. I could almost see the characters acting it out, with perfect backdrops and sublime dialogues. But then, translating this mental representation into words, that's a different beast. Every time I finish a scene, I reread it and realize, "Wait, this isn't exactly how I pictured it!" The same goes for the character motives or plot twists. In my head, it all seemed perfectly reasonable – like a beautiful movie with a coherent plot. But on paper, it's like a tangled mess of threads with each one seeming disconnected. The thing is, mental representations are abstract and malleable. They are like watercolor paintings; you can blend the colors and add new shades as you please. But scriptwriting? It's like a mathematical equation. You have to make sure every element fits and makes sense. I mean, I can't just write, "And then, out of nowhere, a dragon appears and saves the day." No matter how cool it looked in my head, it's my job as a scriptwriter to create a believable world that goes by certain rules. And sometimes, these rules aren't in line with my mental representation. Reminds me of the time when I had a brilliant idea for a sci-fi movie. In my mind, there were these incredible aliens and epic space battles. But when I tried to write it down, I got stuck after the first ten pages because I didn't really know how to justify the existence of these aliens or explain their technology. I guess, this is the challenge and the beauty of any creative process. The gap between our mental representations and the actual creation could be frustrating but it also pushes us to grow, to rethink, and to come up with new solutions. And just like in life, it's all about navigating the gap between what we imagine and what is real. P.S. Not a real indie movie maker, sorry to disappoint!😂 Just delivering a hypothetical scenario to give you an idea about mental models in our daily life. Reality, as they say, is not a movie script. We adapt, we change, and hopefully, we create something beautiful along the way.
2024.06.09 19:39 MnkkePale Heart Destination Quests were astounding!
Specifically Micah-10's Ghost Missions. I get they are going back to old content, but it made the world feel alive for I think the second ever time, at least for me. The only other time was the idea of Season of the Risen going on while we dealt with Savathun during The Witch Queen. Come to think of it, maybe finding Hawthorne during Red War tried to touch on that as well. But it just hasn't felt like a common occurrence is all. Sure, we go back to old strikes that aren't customized, no new bosses or change ups, etc. But the dialogue changes make the world feel full and alive, like things are actually happening outside of the DLC which is amazing. Some great examples (Spoilers for Final Campaign Mission Excision below as well!):
Cayde coming to terms with how not caught up he is, how the world did still move on without him, during Nightmare Hunt: Fear. And it's especially awesome because this same sort of thing happens during the final campaign mission where Saint-14 shows up. Dialogue is different here each run, and one is Cayde's surprise that Saint-14 is alive with excitement as opposed to his more sad and somber tone from the Nightmare Hunt.
How there was likely an arms deal happening in the Devils Lair, an official in-game situation stating that Eramis is not involved with The Witness anymore. How the Brigs there are House Salvation Brigs, but they aren't flying colors so it's believed to be pirates. I believe this must also confirm that she is likely still in the Sol System (that and the fact that her Ketch is shown off in a PvP map). This opens up the idea of Eramis being involved again somehow (which was also shown in the final inkblot cutscene too), as well as the idea of House Dusk having either multiple Prime Servitors or a new source of Ether / sustenance.
Going back to Beyond and talking about Nezarec. This was sort of already known via lore, but it's really nice to have official in-game stuff asking whether Nezarec is truly dead or not, and hinting at the potential return from Nezarec in the future.
Elsie finding the remains of Anwar by the Ziggurat (well, in the Europan Pyramid but still). We actually failed on a mission, and someone else helped locate it too instead of us doing everything.
We have so much cool stuff going on in the lore, and now we're seeing some of that directly in the game! These made the world feel more alive, more occupied, and still moving in the back ground. Not to mention laying the groundwork for the Episodes and perhaps future content releases and story beats. These honestly were incredible! Probably among one of my favorite parts of the DLC, getting this lore bits officially in-game as opposed to reading off of a page and teasing the future through them. Phenomenal job to everyone who worked on the DLC and these missions. I would love if we got stuff like this in the future and would love to see it fleshed out more!
2024.06.09 19:22 Dry_Shoe_5762What do I do with my sea glass?
Hey everyone, just made my first post here yesterday so I’m still very new to this page and Reddit itself. I’ve been collecting sea glass for about 2 weeks now and have gathered about 10-15lbs with quite a few colorful/smooth/frosted pieces. I was wondering what people do with this other than just collect. Is there a market for sea glass? Specific kinds of art? Let me know what everyone does!

Hello all. Our family once had a 1980 Turbo Trans Am that we'd love to get back, or at least see where it's gone. 1980 Turbo Trans Am I suspect the car is still in the local area (Syracuse, NY / Onondaga County, NY / Central New York), but it might not be. It's a 1980 Ontario Gray (code 84) Turbo Trans Am, VIN 2W87TAN122300 with the black Custom Trim Group Hobnail cloth interior. Options include: WS6, 4-wheel disc brakes, T-tops, A/C, AM/FM cassette (non ETR), power windows, power locks, power trunk, power antenna on left fender, cruise control, tilt wheel, rear defroster, lamp group, and intermittent wipers. There is no hood bird on the car, and we believe the remainder of the decals and S/E style striping to be incorrect for the car. These decals and striping are a reddish-orange color. We replaced the original 301 turbo engine with a 400 from a 1976 Grand Prix. It's an XY 400 with a block date code of C166 (March 16, 1976). The heads are 1970 D-port heads, casting number 13, with the date codes of F180 = June 18, 1970 and F160 = June 16, 1970. We had tall chrome valve covers on it with long wing bolts. It had a Edelbrock Performer intake with a Holley 0-3310 (single pumper, dual feed, vacuum secondary) carb. Had an HEI distributor with a Accel HEI Super Coil on top and Jacobs plug wires. Also had headers. The A/C compressor, condenser, and lines were removed, as was the transmission/steering column interface/lock linkage. It originally came with 3.08 gears but we replaced them with 3.90s. Other distinguishing things include flaking paint on the front nose cone, headliner falling over the right rear seat, upholstery piping on outboard side of driver's seatback poking out, we believe the quarter panels were replaced on the car before we purchased it; there are stickers on the inside of the quarters, hood bulge block-off plate is removed, fan shroud broken/cracked. Goodyear Eagle GT white outline tires, 245/60R15; tire date codes should be between 1989 and 1991 on factory 15x8 Snowflake wheels. Please see the attached pictures and key information. If anyone knows the whereabouts of this car, or have seen it, or can provide ANY details about it, please, please share them with me via private message. And please share the story and pictures everywhere. Anything would be a big help, even if it's just sharing the story to other pages and groups on AND off social media. Thank you.
2024.06.09 19:13 AccomplishedMeat4361 year dating [27F, 36M] and he can’t say I love you
I (27F) met my current long distance boyfriend (36M) at work. We had a beautiful start to this journey, great first kiss, exciting memories so far, discussed future goals and were aligned, and have been maintaining seeing each other almost every month, sometimes more. He comes to my state for work, and I visit him on PTO, usually spending a 4-5 days together. We’ve been going steady, talk everyday, great dates, very affectionate, but not too many conversations on next steps. I’ve given him homemade gifts and lengthy cards expressing my appreciation and admiration, he always bought me flowers and small gifts. Right around the one year mark, I told him I loved him, fully thinking we were on the same page from his actions and the way he treats me. He told me he wasn’t ready to say it back. He mentioned he was numb when I met him due to a death in his family 1 year prior and that he’s still closed off. Even though I felt a bit shocked, I understood and decided to try slow down again. I asked him what he needs to get there and he told me that we need to spend longer periods of time together to stress test the relationship before he can really get to that point. Am I being impatient? Is it possible we won’t ever get there if we aren’t already? I think love needs to come first in order for the rest to make sense. I’m very conflicted and suddenly feeling lonely in this relationship, now that the rose colored glasses are off of a new exciting reciprocated love. Fuel to the fire: We just made it to the 15 month mark and I learned his best friend and sisters do not know we are dating. He did say we are exclusive and some friends know but he seems to keep me separate from his personal life. He’s met my entire family at this point. I’m feeling a bit heartbroken and unsure how to proceed. Any advice? Please be kind.

2024.06.09 19:06 HellzBellz2024How Do **YOU** Actually Use Washi Tape?
Just read an archived post on this sub, so couldn't comment, where several people agreed that washi was pointless. I LOVE washi tape and use it often. So I want to hear from people who actually ***USE*** it, what you do with it--NOT a listicle of what one could potentially do with it, but how *YOU* actually use it, if you do. Here's some of my favorite ways:
I prefer to do my morning page brain dump in cheap spiral notebooks, and I use the ultra thin line washi to go over the red margin lines and coordinate with the stickers I also add to the pages to inspire myself.
i cover objects I use or see often with washi, often with multiple stripes of varying thicknesses. I added some stripes to my ikea metal art cart, covered my ugly black scotch tape dispenser, added some to my ugly black travel alarm clock and put a border around my laptop screen
I use the colors/designs I don't like that come in multipacks to tape down paper I am making art on and to put an easily removable border around paper I am going to watercolor on.
I use in my journal and planner to divide sections.... e.g. if I'm going to make a gratitude list, I'll use washi to section off a box somewhere on the page. I also will use it as a border on a whole page if I am making a special list, or over the edge of a page I want to find easily. Sometimes I use them as page tabs or flags
add to snail mail and packages to give a pop of color or some flair. Sometimes I will make the address box out of washi
I hate having product branding on things around my home so I often will cover it with some coordinating washi tape-- such as boxes of kleenex, or my hand lotion or the box of coffee filters
washi is really pretty. i am attracted to colorful designs, and I have them displayed in my art room on tree branches of various sizes that have fishing line and these brass curtain rings on each side and have them hung in tiers so it's kind of a triangle tree shape. It's still fairly functional to use them and put them back in a random order or a purposeful one, so I have an ever-changing 3D art installation.
2024.06.09 18:47 throwawaylgbtsun4This guy (stranger) on insta asked a lot of info straight up, advice please
Hi guys so for context as i bring this situation up, i also would like to know what you overall consider appropriate ways on communicating on insta with strangers we follow and like/heart content of? Sometimes i might respond to a story with a friendly thing like “love yr artwork” or “great photo” nothing much to really look into, and when some message me saying “thx for the follow, cool profile” i pretty much do the same, conversation doesnt usually continue from there, i assume cause, well…we are strangers, its just politeness, though as i dont have many friends amd defo would love to chat more with people on insta i have stuff in common with, i completely understand the awkwardness and fear of it, and with this situation we have perhaps that example from his guys straight up ness, so.. we are both gay men, and i follow a bunch of travel and art profiles/ pages on instaggram cause its what im into, thats what public profiles on the platform are for, right?, and so this one account i started following ,the guy followed me back and messaged me the following, HIM: “hey, How are you? Nice Profile 😘” ME: “Hey, i'm gd thx, hbu? and same with yrs :) I especially dig the green eye imagery 👁️💚” HIM: “Hey, thank you! I’m glad you like my eye color so much 😍 I’m doing great too. You have a really interesting profile. I really like it and I would like to find out more about you: where are you from and what’s your name? 😘 And how did you find out about my profile?” Ok so…i dont really know how to fully interpret his kissing emojis, and i dont wanna seem rude, im all for a short regular friendly chat but , i dunno isnt it a lil, i dunno? …Quick to ask straight away my name and where im from? Like, i could be overanalysing this but, i thanked him already , we are from diff countries, he seems a legit human being, not a scam bot or that, he has lots of photos of himself and has a few thousand followers but, i just wanna respond nicely, without giving too much of my private life/details out there, advice plz? His photography is awesome, hence me following, and he has been nice from these messages, so how should i best respond to him. Cause ok, say i give my name and country, will he then ask for job title, if i am single, city i live in etc? I don't even know him, i dont love his green eyes lol, it was a post of a really close up shot of his eye which happens to be green, and i was being polite towards that image in my mind, not caring for the color itself, the “how did you find out about my profile” i am obviously fine with answering, it was merecely on homepage a travel pic of his appeared like thousands of others… did i do anything wrong? And going forward how should one socialize with people on insta without revealing too much or if i do then for whatever reason dont wanna chat more

2024.06.09 18:41 thethrowaway_brideHot take: Mainstream wedding inspiration content on Instagram is borderline toxic and I’m this close to giving up on it entirely
I’m going to start this post out by saying that yes, it’s always generally a good idea to limit your exposure to this sort of content and not let it influence you. I have a seprate instagram to look at wedding inspiration so I can keep it separate from my main stuff and am very deliberate about not spending too much time on it - I highly recommend this to everyone for that reason. I am also mentally intentional with reminding myself that my wedding is what I want and this content will not pressure me in any way. That being said - I originally wanted to check out this content to get inspired and find out hacks, especially to save money. But the content that does well on wedding instagram aka what is promoted to you in reels and on the explore page is driving me nuts. Most of the content I see is some variation of:
almost exclusively really expensive weddings that photograph/film well but are mostly unattainable without huge $$$
very similauniform, almost cookie cutter aesthetic: very luxe, similar color palettes, fonts, designs, and mostly very polished and impersonal looking. original or different theming or details are almost impossible to find
weirdly pushy vendor content, sometimes straight up contemptuous of lower budget brides
people being really defensive about natural diamonds in rings for some reason
I’m this close to deleting my wedding instagram because it all just looks the same, pushed the same spendy agenda, or is just pretentious. Anyone else feel similar? Any recs for accounts posting stuff that is genuinely helpful or original, or shows off attainable wedding elements?
2024.06.09 18:39 YoungSanchezNeed Help with crashes and broken project in Davinci Resolve 19 Studio
I am working with the Studio Version 19 and it crashes A LOT. Like every 2 minutes when I am color grading. I thought it was my PC because I had a few crashes with version 18, but I just formatted my computer and it didn't fix it. All drivers are updated and I have no idea what to do. Oh, and to add to that, now my project is broken and I can no longer open it, unless I create a new blank project, go to the delivery page, and from there open the broken project. I have 5 videos to deliver by tomorrow and I am going crazy. Anyone can help me? I am working with sonny FX30 4k footage, my computer is a RT 5700 XT and a Ryzen 7 3800X with 64gb of RAM. All the footage is in a NVME M.2 disk with plenty of space. This is the last part of the log file: https://preview.redd.it/a22yruyspk5d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=562401f25edd9bd750f9e12b878c83faaca7fcb8
2024.06.09 18:38 mrsajadppGoogle Search Result Shows Incorrect Page Title for My Website
Hi Reddit community, I'm facing an issue with how my website's page title appears in Google search results and could use some advice. I run a website for a CSS Minifier and Compressor tool. The title of my webpage is set correctly in the HTML as "CSS Minifier and Compressor." However, when the page appears in Google search results, the title is shown as "CSS Minifier and Compressor - Grovix Lab." Here's the relevant part of my HTML:
CSS Minifier and Compressor Google tag (gtag.js)
Steps I've Taken:
Verified the Title: Ensured that the tag is correct and matches the desired page title.
Updated Meta Tags: Checked and updated all meta tags to ensure consistency.
Google Search Console: Used the URL Inspection tool and requested indexing for the page.
Despite these efforts, Google still displays "CSS Minifier and Compressor - Grovix Lab" instead of just "CSS Minifier and Compressor." Does anyone have any insights or additional steps I could take to resolve this issue? Is there something I might be overlooking that's causing Google to append "Grovix Lab" to the page title? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I wanted to share a project for intermediate HTML designers. I'll include the code and steps for each part. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Step 1: Setting Up The Project
Start by preparing your environment to develop an interactive photo gallery with HTML. If you want to dive straight in, I'd recommend following along with me using our online coding environments. We’ll use some JavaScript for this project, so I’d recommend using an online JavaScript compiler to build with. I will also outline the steps for you to create the necessary files and organize your workspace on your own computer. Just follow these, and you'll have a solid foundation for your project. i. Choose an IDE or Editor Before you start, choose an IDE or editor tailored for web development. I favor Visual Studio Code (VSCode). It's for HTML and CSS and a solid choice if you’d prefer to build on your own machine. ii. Install Necessary Plugins If you choose VSCode, consider installing VSCode extensions like "Live Server" to preview your HTML pages in real time and "Prettier" for code formatting. These tools will make your development process smoother and more efficient. iii. Create a New HTML Project Once your editor is set up, it's time to create a new project:
Open your editor and select the option to create a new project or folder.
Name your project folder something descriptive, like "InteractivePhotoGallery."
Inside this folder, create three files: index.html for your HTML content, styles.css for your CSS styles, and script.js for your JavaScript logic.
iv. Set Up a Basic HTML Structure Open your index.html file and set up a basic HTML structure. Here’s a simple template to get you started:
Interactive Photo Gallery Header content like a title or a navigation bar Gallery content will go here
Here's the compiler where you can try it. This is the basic structure every HTML project that uses JavaScript starts with. We've got our DOCTYPE, HTML tag, head section (with meta tags, title, and links to our CSS and JavaScript files), and the body where our content will go. This basic structure also introduces the JavaScript file linked with the defer attribute, ensuring it loads after the HTML content. v. Prepare for CSS and JavaScript Development Make sure your styles.css is linked correctly, and your script.js is set to load at the right time in your HTML file to start adding styles and functionality in the next steps. vi. Verify Project Setup To ensure everything is set up correctly, try opening your index.html with the Live Server plugin or directly in your browser. You should see a blank page with the basic document structure ready to be filled with content. And there you have it! You’ve successfully set up your environment to create an interactive photo gallery with HTML. Next, you'll create the HTML structure for your interactive photo gallery.
Step 2: Creating the HTML Structure
With your development environment ready, it’s time to construct the HTML skeleton of your interactive photo gallery. i. Create the Header Section The header will introduce your gallery. You might want to include a catchy title or a brief description:
My Photo Gallery
Explore my collection of high-quality images ranging from landscapes to portraits.
Caption for image 1
Repeat for other images
This sets the tone and context for the visitors of your gallery. ii. Set Up the Gallery Section This main part will hold all your images in a grid or other layout:
Caption for image 1
Repeat for other images
Replace "path-to-image-1.jpg" with the actual path to each image. Ensure that each image has an appropriate alt text for accessibility. iii. Include a Filter Section (Optional) If your gallery is large, consider adding filters to help viewers sort images by categories:
These buttons are set up to trigger JavaScript functions that will filter the gallery based on the category. iv. Add a Modal for Image Viewing (Optional) To enhance the interactivity, include a modal that opens when an image is clicked, allowing for a closer view:
×
This section will be controlled via JavaScript to display images dynamically when clicked. Here’s a summary of what we've accomplished in this step:
Structured the Page Content: Created distinct sections like the header and gallery, employing semantic HTML for better accessibility and SEO.
