The title speaks for it self. I think it would save cachy OS devs a ton of time trying to remake arch packages into v3 cachy packages when you can just install a repository with all that work already done for you? I would be pretty stoked to have a full v3 arch linux experience with -o3 optimizations present in almost every core arch package as well as almost every arch extra package. I would be surprised if you didn't do this.
To access the repos, just install the keyring and mirrorlist first, then add the alhp servers on the web page. You can add a trust all option to it, or not, up to you. Also, consider creating a cachy package that does all the work of installing the repository directly by simply running a script adding it to the pacman conf, to make it more user accessible. Alhp also is working on v4 packages so seriously give it some major thought.
Lastly, Make sure that after installing the repo, that you disable the regular core repo and regular extra repo, run a full upgrade and if you want to be extra clean, just reinstall all packages before adding them back. This way you won't have out of sync package versioning to deal with as much

So yesterday I saw I have 600+ packages ready to upgrade. I thought, why not. But my wise ass also thought "Well, maybe it would be a good idea to create a backup" so I did.
After the upgrade, something in my computer broke (nothing serious, but it annoys me). From time to time I love playing LOTRO, so is important for me as I really need some relax.
The issue: when I launch the game, if there is a window behind the game, then the noise will act as if the game wasn't the, I can even right click and get the context menu. If I left click, the game will minimize and I'm back in the desktop. The game is only usable in the quarter if the screen: upper left part of the screen (this also happened to me in Arch, which was one of the reasons why I moved to Manjaro).
Anyways, as I have a backup, I want to upgrade certain packages so I can do it in groups of, say 100 packages, or at least group them (like, first only gnome, libraries and so on). All of this in order to find the maldito package the is causing the issue and report the bug.
How can I do it in pacman o pamac?

Steamdeck is a great gaming system, but I also use desktop mode for other things. I remember a long time ago before I upgraded the SSD, I had to do some configurations to unlock extra download packages or something of the sorts, but after some trial and error, I was able to get kvantum up and running, to use some amazing themes and transparent windows with Dolphin. I regret not writing any of that down, because now I don't remember what I had to do, lol.
I was wondering if anyone here has done that, and if so, how did you do it?

The specific errors I get when I attempt "sudo pacman -S kvantum" is:
error: keyring is not writeable
error: required key missing from keyring
error: failed to commit transaction (could not find or read file)

so a while ago I got my hands on some codes for the game and realised that they were tied to a server and as such cannot be used to unlock the mazes. That being said, does there exist a modded apk for the game that has all the mazes unlocked? I'd still like to be able to play them

I love chomp champs so far but you feel like there is so much that they need to improve and new features that they should add. Also the servers are jank af. Has there been any news on if they are gonna be updating it frequently or are the developers just releasing it and not touching it again.

ok so as of now there are quite a few AltLinux forks and none of them worked for me out of the box so i'm just posting here how I got it running on my machine, so I can now refresh apps (only works from USB)
I'm on arch linux
the original AltLinux provides an AUR package, which 404s because it doesn't seem to exists anymore. But there also is altlinux-git, which is what i'm rocking it now.
Tho again, this package doesn't even build because it uses pyinstaller, and Arch linux a while ago moved all pip packages to the pacman repo (or something like that), basically you don't install python packages with pip anymore if not for a venv (from my understanding).
Anyways, install pyinstaller and then
git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/altlinux-git.git && cd altlinux-git
now we need to edit the PKGBUILD file, edit the prepare() method, and replace pip install pyinstaller with something like echo helloworld
and then finally makepkg -si
now you've got altserver installed but it won't work yet, you need the new anisette server
like this github comment suggests, download anisette (if unsure, download the x86-64), make it executable with chmod +x anisette* and run it with ./anisette* -n 127.0.0.1 -p 6969
we can finally run AltLinux, cd /uslib/altlinux && ALTSERVER_ANISETTE_SERVER=http://127.0.0.1:6969 /uslib/altlinux/altlinux
I know this is not the best explanation, so if you don't understand something leave a comment, i'm kind of tired as of writing this, but i'm pretty sure that if you've been a linux user for a while you can get this running on your own. Best of luck :)
I really hope AltLinux V2 will happen or that at least a working flatpak or something like that will come out
EDIT: you can also edit the .desktop file (/usshare/applications/altlinux.desktop) on the Exec line like this

Installation Steps on Steam Deck:

1. Download the latest version zip of Hydra Launcher.
2. Extract the zip file to a folder of your choice.
3. If you haven't already, unlock the read-only mode to install programs. Note that the database is in read-only mode, hence you'll receive an error with the same phrase.

Hello. I tried to install pip package aws-encryption-sdk-cli , but I have received externally managed environment error. What does this mean ? Is this related that there might be a conflict between pip and pacman package managers ?
As one of the solutions it suggests creating virtual environment using python -m venv path/to/venv . But wouldn't then the package only exist in that virtual environment and it would not be reachable from my main system ?

Need some help with finding a mobile game I played like 2-3 years ago. I hope someone can help me.
It had a pink and black pixel art style (kinda like Jsab but with pixel art). It's gameplay I have never seen before tbh, pacman-like rogue-lite? With mazes you could go around in and enemies that tried to hunt you down. As the game went on you would encounter bosses and the number of enemies in one maze would get higher. You could collect items and most importantly bombs you could put down and kill the enemies with. You could also unlock characters with abilities.
And the last detail is that this game was made by a dev who made a more succesful game that I played before. And the saddening part is... I SWEAR IT IS CHILLYROOM BUT THE GAME ISN'T THERE. Maybe they deleted it or sumin, Idk.
I would be grateful if you could find it.(and so would you because I tell you it was great fun.)

Okay, so i have updated the system using pacman -Suy and after I have rebooted all USB ports, trackpad, thinkpoint and bluetooth stopped working. nmcli and ip a only show "lo" device ...
Im using Thinkpad x220 and it all used to work before the update.

ok so i recently just tried installing emulatorjs and had it take over port 80 and now the favicon on port 80 is stuck as pacman even after i have deleted emulatorjs is there a way to remove the pacman favicon .i know it is something minor but still want to change it back to the original casaos web icon I've been trying to find the files that didn't get deleted even after i deleted it but couldn't find any files that where labled to indecate they were from emulatorjs.

I’m creating this post to assist newcomers in setting up HDR support on Linux using Plasma 6. I’ve encountered partial and use-case answers, and the wiki isn’t exactly coherent. Hopefully, this guide will help someone (or preferably many people) get HDR working without spending hours on Google, Bing, and Copilot searches. Also, I used Copilot to make this more legible after typing it out. So, if bits of it sound like AI, it’s just rephrasing something I said.
IMPORTANT:

• The commands provided assume you are using Manjaro or at least Arch. These distributions are known to be excellent for gaming until SteamOS 3 is generally released.
• If you’re using a different distribution (e.g., Ubuntu), adapt the commands accordingly. For instance, replace pacman -Syu with sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y.
• Be proactive but ask for help if you can't find your distros equivalent.

Instructions:

1. Check Display Settings:
   • Go to Settings > Display & Monitor and look for an HDR option. If it’s there, skip to step 5.
   • If no HDR option appears, proceed to the following fixes.
2. Ensure You’re Using Wayland:
   • Wayland supports HDR, while Xorg (X11) does not.
   • Check your current graphics platform under Settings > About This System > Graphics Platform.
   • To switch to Wayland:
     • Go to Settings > Colors and Themes > Login Screen (SDDM) > Behavior (top right).
     • Set Auto Login to use Wayland.
     • Restart your system. (There might be alternative methods; feel free to comment if you know one!)
3. Driver Caution:
   • Switching to Wayland may break your drivers.
   • If so, run the following commands and restart: sudo mhwd --remove pci video-nvidia && sudo mhwd -i pci video-nvidia
4. Enable HDR:
   • Now that you’re using Wayland with fresh drivers, the HDR option should appear. Refer to step 1.
   • Change settings one at a time or it may not apply correctly (e.g., 1080p > apply > 120Hz > apply > HDR on > apply). KDE can be quirky like that.
5. Install Gamescope:
   • To get Steam games running in HDR, you’ll need Gamescope.
   • Install Gamescope with the following command: sudo pacman -Syu && sudo pacman -S gamescope
   • Enable Steam integration: gamescope -e -- steam
6. Steam Launch Options:
   • Add launch options for the game you want HDR in.
   • For 1080p@120Hz, the launch option might look like: gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -r 120 --hdr-enabled -- %command%
     • gamescope specifies the use of Gamescope.
     • The custom resolution and refresh rate are necessary (there’s a reason, but I forgot!).
     • Ensure HDR is enabled in the launch options; otherwise, it won’t work.
7. Testing HDR:
   • After completing the steps above, HDR should work in your game.
   • Keep in mind that the Steam UI will probably be very glitchy at this point. Patience and deep breaths are essential.
   • I tested it with Horizon Forbidden West, and it worked phenomenally once I was in the game.
8. Returning to X11 for Compatibility and Comfort:
   • Repeat Step 2, choosing X11 instead of Wayland.
   • Remove launch options.
   • Voilà, we’re back to square one!

Caveats:

• Using Wayland affects Steam significantly:
  • The store page becomes unusable.
  • The big picture menu (home, settings, etc.) is almost completely broken.
  • You can still navigate with some guesswork.
• Wayland resets display settings on every power-on:
  • Re-enable HDR.
  • Set resolution (if you have a 4K screen, playing in 1080p might result in a tiny box if the desktop resolution is set to 4K).
  • Often restart Steam before launching anything.

Hi, so I misclicked because i typed a little too fast ... Now the sudo pacman -Syu is broken and every time I tried to run it it returns

error: failed to prepare transaction (invalid or corrupted database)

Anyone knows how to fix this ...

I'm trying to update yay, but it throws me an error that no AUR package for gcc13 was found. I tried removing it with pamac, yay and pacman, none of them found it. I don't see any way to exclude it from the update either. How do I fix this?

I can see the device in my lsusb:
