2024.04.04 03:30 Flashy_Check_5410 Bolens G214

Hello!I just moved to ~40 heavily wooded acres. I'm thinking I'd be better off with a tractor rather than an ATV. Thing is, I know very little about tractors.
Things I am looking to do:
I found a Bolens G214 tractor with a bucket loader that is being sold nearby. 21HP 4wd, 3 cylinder Iseki liquid cooled diesel. PTO with 3-point hitch. Fluid filled tires. Quoted as "138 'actual' hours" that's been stored indoors most of its life.
  1. Looking for some advice on if this would be a good buy?
  2. What price point would you expect from a tractor like this?
  3. Would it be able to do the jobs I mentioned above?
  4. How easy/difficult is maintenance?
  5. How easy/difficult is it to find compatible implements/attachments?
  6. How easy/difficult is it to find replacement parts in the event something needs to be repaired?
  7. What do I need to know about tractors in general?
Thanks in advance for the answers! New to tractors and trying to soak in as much knowledge as I can.

2024.02.05 22:04 MongoloidSpacePoosy Signs of low compression?

I’m new to small engines trying to figure out why this engine only had 30psi compression. As far as I can tell there’s no major signs of scoring on the piston or cracks in the cylindepiston. No signs on forbidden glitter either. Engine goes to a Bolens bl110 weed eater. Any pointers are appreciated. Thanks!

2023.08.11 22:15 AppalachianYeoman Bolens BL110 ready for the dumpster

I've owned the same Bolens weedeater for the better part of a decade now. It ran like a champ until last week, when it died in the middle of trimming my yard. After letting it sit overnight, I went out the next day and it fired up, but would only stay running halfway between choke and the partial choke setting. I went ahead and removed the spark plug and it looked fouled, so I replaced it. I also removed the carb and cleaned everything; the diaphragm looked rough, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway. The issue persisted and fuel was spraying out of the carb intake, so I broke down and bought a new carb and tune up kit. After replacing the carb, all the fuel lines, fuel filter, primer bulb, etc. still no luck. Now it will only fire up and stay running for maybe 10 seconds at the most, and that's after priming it and cranking it several times. I've also tried starting it without the gas cap to no avail.
Any ideas before I smash it into bits? Seems to be getting spark just fine.

2022.04.26 09:50 ronthat John Deere 100 Series (E110) won't crank?

Hi all,
Trying to repair my John Deere riding mower that won't crank. When turning the key (and when trying to jump the solenoid) the engine will just barely start trying to very weakly crank for 1-3 seconds, there will be a little bit of clicking, and then nothing.

So far I have:
- replaced the solenoid with a new one
- replaced the seat switch & clutch switch with new ones
- tested the battery/trickle charged it to 100% capacity
- swapped out the starter with one off of my old bolens riding mower (then swapped back to the original one after confirming this didn't fix the problem).
I've also confirmed:
- the 20 amp fuse isn't blown
- all wires appear to be snug in place
- the flywheel, pullys, blades etc aren't bound and I'm able to turn them by hand
- air filter is good
- plenty of fuel in the mower, oil level is good.

So I'm at a loss at this point for what could be causing this problem. It went from running perfectly fine with no signs of a problem, to not starting 2 days later after sitting in the yard. Any ideas what else could be going on here? Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

2022.04.08 22:27 GSEninja Bolen Weedeater, broken driveshaft

Couldn’t find a sub that was dedicated to landscaping tools, figured I’d ask here.
Driveshaft for my Bolen BL110 broken the other day, got the main piece out, but there’s still about 6” stuck at the head end of the weedeater. This is as far as I’ve disassembled the head without breaking anything. Can’t apply any torque to that nut with putting vice grips on the shaft.
Any ideas on how to remove the 6” piece stuck inside?

2020.11.26 21:14 ET2-SW What consumer tractors aren't junk?

I'm sitting here looking at my 2003 MTD Bolens and I have to acknowledge at some point it will need to be replaced. I think the only reason it's made it this far is because it's the single cylinder Intek with the FNR rear axle. I've stripped this thing down to parade rest for rebuilds several times, but it can't go on forever. The only thing on this tractor I haven't rebuilt is the rear axle.
MTD seems to have cornered the consumer market, but I see way too much plastic when I go to lowes or home depot. I'm not crazy about hydrostatic, but it seems practically unavoidable. I had a coworker get a rider recently that didn't even have a throttle control, it was just "on".
My biggest feature request is repairability. Is there anything in the consumer bracket that's reasonable repairable?

2019.05.28 17:01 70melbatoast Smoking motor on old Troy-Bilt lawn tractor

Looking for advice. I have a 20+ y/o lawn tractor given to us a few years ago from my FIL when he bought a new one. It is a 1997 Troy-Bilt/Bolens (Garden Way) 13103 13.5 HP Hydro Drive. It has a 13.5 HP Briggs Vanguard engine. Although it has seen some heavy use in its 20+ years, the frame and body are in pretty good shape. The motor was doing very well up until the end of last year when it started running rough prior to storage for the winter. I noticed this year when draining the oil, I got maybe 3/4 of a quart out of it, when it normally takes 1.5 qts. This was worrisome. I completely changed the oil, oil/aifuel filters and replace the spark plug. It was running very well the first few times mowing. Now, it is burning oil pretty bad, especially under load. I checked on numerous occasions and it is not overfilled. In fact, its burning so much I had to add a bit more.
This leads me to my question: Is it even worth it to have the engine repaired/replaced at this point? It owes me nothing and in the few years I've had it, sunk maybe $100 into it, mostly in maintenance. My yard is not large and is very suitable for a new push mower. Do I try and sell it as-is and buy a new push mower, or is it worth it to repair? Thanks for your thoughts.

2017.07.14 12:41 HentaiTeddyBear Some Tips for Demon Souls

So just finished watching the first part of Death Days-Demon Souls and wanted to give some tips and explain some things that aren't really explained. Just feel like I should preface that it has been quite a while since I played so my memory is a little fuzzy.
-So to explain the situation with Health that Bolen was asking about. So like in Dark Souls when you die you become essentially hollow, unlike in Dark Souls though the health decrease for this game is at a permanent 50% decrease unless you have the Cling Ring which you already have, with the cling ring I think it is reduced by about 25%. Like in Dark Souls you can regain your humanity by defeating a boss monster, whether in your game or your friends games. It's been a while since I played so I don't remember if there is an item like humanity from Dark Souls.
Now I don't know how blind Bolen wants to go into this game, so free to not read this part as there will be slight spoilers. I will try to keep it super vague to not ruin too much.
-For starters at the end of the current section they are on, or maybe the next one on they will be told that they cannot proceed further until they beat one of the other worlds in its entirety. My recommendation would be to do World 4 the Shrine of Storms as in my opinion it is the easiest, and the final boss is essentially a gimmick boss, and when you beat the boss you get a very good and easily accessible grinding spot.
-After you beat your first Final Boss and unlock the rest of World 1 I would recommend you do that world last as it just sort of feels fitting to do so and also because the Final Boss has a move that will actually drain your level by I want to say Ten.
-Final Tip if you want to get one of the strongest armors and weapons in the game find a guy name Ostrava, he should be right near the Phalanx Archstone if memory serves correct. Depending on how early you want the items if you kill him right away you should get an item called the Mausoleum key which opens up a door behind the Red Eye Spearman that killed Bolen. If you kill the person behind the door you will get one if the best armors in the game the Ancient King Armor. If you decide not to kill him you have to complete all of Ostrava's quest line which entails essentially beating all of World 1.
Hopefully this helps and if anyone has anymore Tips, or feel I have explained something wrong, feel free to contribute/correct in the comments.

2017.04.10 15:42 benutne How to clean/repair a plastic Carb

To start, I've never done any small engine repair before. I've got a 12-13 year old Bolens mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine on it. It it surging up and down while running really badly. On the low end of the surge it very nearly dies. It comes with a plastic carb. I've replaced the air filter and the spark plug. Can I clean the carb somehow even though its plastic? A replacement carb looks to be about $30, which I may do if I can figure it out.
Any help? It still cuts grass, I'm just worried its on its last legs and I cannot afford a new mower right now.

2017.02.14 14:10 Diethoc Dark Souls Advice Thread

Since Death Days are upon us, I wanted to give some advice to Craig and Bolen since I won’t be able to catch the streams. I’m gonna try to be as spoiler free as I can cause I hate hand holding and I know they beat this son of a bitch.
The Elite Knight Armor set looks dope, but I feel like it’s slowing your rolling too much at this point. I suggest one of two options: shield up all day err’day and tank like a badass with minimal rolling, or change up your equipment to become the quick and agile knight-ninja-warrior we know you can be.
If you want to go heavy, throw on the strongest shield you’ve got and upgrade it at Andre for extra stamina loss reduction when blocking. Soon you can find the Eagle Shield which can be a great choice if you don’t mind only 95% reduction in physical attacks in exchange for great stability. The Elite Knight set is the heaviest armor available to you right now, so keep it on.
If you want to focus on agility, mix and match other armor sets to get the fast roll (which is activated at sub 25% equip load). You can boost this stat by leveling endurance or by getting awesome rings from some hardasses.
Speaking of rings, there are a few available to you that you have missed thus far that could help you without too much trouble. If you don’t want to back track, ignore this part. In order of easiest to hardest and what area they are located in: Ring of the Evil Eye in the Depths, Wolf Ring in the Darkroot Garden, and Blue Tearstone Ring in the Undead Burg. There are more in areas you’ve already been, but they are guarded by very strong foes.
If you have the souls to spare, get the weapon, armor, and repair boxes from Andre. They’re 2k each, but totally worth it for upgrading on the fly if you get some titanite shards to drop.
