To Fix A Printer Or Just Save Money to Buy A New One? Also Open To Repair Advice

2024.05.16 15:46 khantroll1 To Fix A Printer Or Just Save Money to Buy A New One? Also Open To Repair Advice

Hi all,
Figured I'd take a quick reading of the hive mind on this. For years now, my workhorse printer has been an AnyCubic Mega S. Yeah, it's old, but it's worked flawlessly like a champ for the years I've had it. Others have come and gone, but it's remained.
However, a few months the entire hot end became caked in filament. I don't even remember the actual cause, but it wasn't salvageable. I ordered a new one, replaced it, and since then I've gotten two completed prints off of it.
Well, that isn't strictly true. It will print a bed leveling test or a calibration cube wonderfully, and look just as good as it always has. But anything much bigger, and it there is an almost certainty that it will fail before it gets past 10%.
The failures occur when it just stops extruding filament. It seems to jam, and if left alone the filament will eventually snap inside the extruder. However, it stops extruding before that happens.
So far, I've:
Replaced the bowden tube.
Replaced the extruder
Played with the spring tension
changed filament
Increased heat to varying degrees and decreased the fans.
Changed the nozzle.
Non of it has made a noticeable, predictable change on it.
I was looking into the possibility of replacing the hot end again (which would give me an unmolested, assembled setup from the extruder on forward), as well as replacing the control board for the hot end as that could cause temperature issues as well.
That's what bought me to this post: taxes, shipping, and all, I'm looking at around 40-50 bucks to do that. Meanwhile, I can pick up a K1 Max or P1S on payments from MicroCenter for less then that per month, or a Neptune 4 for 200-300 cash depending on model.
So, really, I have two questions:
Is it worth putting time and money into this printer?
Anybody have any better ideas on troubleshooting it?
P.S. No, 50 isn't a lot of money in the grand scheme of things compared to the 600+ of the other machines mentioned, but it's on top of probably another 25-50 in random parts and supplies I've already spent on this issue, not to mention the hours of messing with it.

2024.05.16 15:43 theJamesKPolk AITAH for not going with my wife and toddler to my wife’s cousins wedding?

My family (me, wife, 2 yr old) was invited to a wedding for my wife’s cousin. She isn’t super close to her cousin, but it’s not like they’re very distant, either. A lot of my wife’s family will be there too. It’s about a 3 hour flight, and the wedding setup is a bit hectic - we’d have to rent a car and drive from various different places. They don’t have transportation to the venue or any hotel blocks.
When we got the invite, I told my wife that I didn’t think we should go for a few reasons: * Since having our toddler, we have declined any weddings that aren’t within an hour drive (where we could drive out, go to the wedding, and drive back and just need a babysitter). * We haven’t been on a vacation with ourselves in almost 5 years. If we’re going to fly somewhere, I’d rather we do it on our terms and have a chance to relax a little bit more. * Financially, we are doing OK, but finances are tighter than I’d like and spending 1k on flight tickets + $300 to board our dog + additional expenses doesn’t make sense to me, especially given the point above. I’d rather spend 2k on an actual vacation.
Most importantly IMO is that we see my wife’s family all the time. We live ~1 mile away from her parents and she sees them 4-5 times a week. We hang out all the time (which is great). Conversely I see my family 2 times a year. The only reason we live so close is because we decided to uproot and move close to her parents. We gave up a cheap mortgage and took on a ton of debt (our monthly PITI nearly tripled) - we were in a position of paying off our house in the next 5 years; now it’s going to take 25 years. This is also important because her parents are going to the wedding too and will help take care of our toddler, help with the flights, etc.
My perspective is that if we’re going to take a trip with our toddler, I’d rather: 1) do a vacation for ourselves or 2) see my family since we don’t see them often. Anytime I bring up the idea of a vacation my wife is like “parents don’t do vacations with little kids, it’s not worth it”.
I told my wife she should go herself and I’d happily watch our toddler all weekend. But she decided to go and wants to bring our 2 yr old so our son can “meet his cousins”. So now my wife, toddler, and in-laws are flying to the wedding while I stay home. I feel a bit shitty about this but I was also pretty clear about not wanting to go OR watching our toddler all weekend. I’m already dreading the “wow your husband is an asshole” comments to my wife and the guilt tripping.

2024.05.16 15:40 NonrepresentativePea How to handle shipping company scam that totally screwed me over?

Hi auto transport community, I am hoping you could offer me some advice on how to handle a bad shipping situation.
SM transport quoted me $435 to ship from Texas to Florida. As it’s my first time shipping a car, I had no point of reference whether that was high or low. Since it was the best quote and its kind of an emergency situation I wasn’t exactly prepared for or anticipating (my mom wanted to drive herself to Florida to stay with me despite my warnings it was a bad idea and well being that she is elderly, she ended up in the hospital so I had to go pick her up), I took the offer.
I scheduled the pickup from the tow truck company for the day before our flight to Florida and they never arrived. And of course, now the payment is $200 more to get it picked up the next day.
I refused to pay that bc I literally signed papers that said the total would be $435, they promised it would get picked up on Monday at the price I signed for.
When that didn’t happen, I decided to cancel with them. I got my DP refunded to me and I booked another company. Keep in mind we are now in Florida and the car is still in Texas at the tow truck place - so we needed to get moving.
Now the new company is having trouble finding a driver bc SM transport refuses to take their listing down unless I pay them more money.
The new company said that SM transport listed the price for $700 on the leader board… so no wonder no one picked it up for $430.
What can I do? Is there anyway I can ensure they don’t do this to anyone else?
Helpful info:
The contract I signed said nothing about a cancellation fee or job termination fee or anything like that. They seem to just make up policies as they go.

Fixing a broken pedal with a momentary foot switch... halp...
So I have this T-Rex NeoComp pedal that won't stay engaged. I was hoping I would just be able to change out the footswitch, then I realized that it comes stock with a momentary footswitch. I tried replacing it with another momentary DPDT and it has the same issue, if I put in a latching DPDT, it'll stay on, but there's no signal when disengaged.
I've realized I have no idea how a momentary footswitch is used in a pedal that's supposed to stay on or off, and I'm having trouble finding the info online about this.
Does anyone have any good resources to help me out here? There's only two leads coming of the board to be connected to the DPDT. Just trying to get this thing working again, any advice is super appreciated.

2024.05.16 15:19 MangoSorbet695 Logistics question about getting Grandma through security to pick up my daughter. Any ideas?

I am planning to fly my daughter (under age 5) to Raleigh (RDU) to spend a week with the grandparents this summer.
My plan is to fly with my daughter to RDU and then I would turn around and get back on the return flight from RDU to our home town. There is an hour between when the flight lands at RDU and when it departs back to my home. I don’t think I’d have enough time to escort my daughter out of the airport and go back through security, but maybe I could swing that.
My mom (her grandma) is willing to go through security and pick my daughter up at the gate when we arrive.
Does anyone know a way/process we can go through so that my mom would be allowed to go through security to pick up a minor?
I thought about buying my mom the cheapest ticket I could find on a flight out of RDU around the same time (and then she’d just not board the plane), but if there is a way to avoid that, I would prefer it.
Any ideas?
Thank you!

2024.05.16 15:18 ElRvsco FNM Level Brew in Progress: Basic Bitch

So, with the new ghost quarter on a stick called White Orchid Phantom revealed, I decided to finally try a deck idea that lingered on my mind for a long time. The premise is to run removal and land destruction, that let the opponent search for basics. Once there are no basics left, the value of those spells rises immensely.
That's basically already it. Control the Board with [[Path to Exile]], [[Winds of Abandon]], [[Settle the Wreckage]], [[Skyclave Apparition]] and [[March of Otherworldy Light]], destroy lands with [[Cleansing Wildfire]], [[White Orchid Phantom]] and [[Krenkos Buzzcrusher]]. Use [[Goblin Darkdwellers]] to recycle spells.
I would love some Feedback! There is currently no sideboard, because I first want to try the main deck.
Also [[Knight of the White Orchid]] serves as a placeholder for Ghost Quarter Bear.

2024.05.16 15:06 Normanhouse How to Fix EAFC - The #BoycottEA movement

EA are now focused on the revenue opportunities that have been enabled through microtransactions, at the expense of gameplay. We need to push back.

My essential thoughts are this.

EA are a corporation, and it is their sole mission to generate revenue. This is absolutely fine. Capitalism as it should be.
It used to be that EA needed to make a great game that would be reviewed well, and convince the customer to buy not only that game, but the game that follows. This was their business model. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn't (see PES era of the middle 2000s). At the end of the day, gamers and developers were united in a common aspiration, a great football game.
Around 15 years ago, came another exciting revenue opportunity. This opportunity was called the microtransaction. You could make a ton of money by not only selling the game, but getting the players to purchase additional packs or loot boxes from within that game.
Eventually, and with the help of behavioural psychologists, the sale of loot boxes was made much more efficient, and profitable. Lootboxes allowed for dopamine hits, and dopamine hits lead to addiction. This process was refined and refined and refined until we are where we are today. Packs are now responsible for approximately approx. 70% of EA's total income. This is derived from a purposefully created addiction mechanic.
If you're EA, and you want to make lots of money, the idea is to generate as much revenue as possible through microtransactions, without compromising the sale of the enabler, which in this case is the game itself.
Where we are now, is that EA have gone far too far, and have done just this. The transparent money grab has alienated the core base. It is clear now that EA's focus is no longer on making a great game, but has shifted to these new revenue opportunities at the expense of the enabler.
The game crashes, huge mistakes are made and fundamental gameplay issues are never fixed. It's basically been in a state of perpetual decline since the atrocity of FIFA19. The game is largely unplayable, but this is a sympotom of the issue, and not the cause of our frustrations.
Why? EA are making more and more money. That's why.
This is why the EA FC point boycott is so essential.
We need them to refocus urgently.
We need to make them understand that the addiction mechanics that they have been trying to pedal will never work while we have a substandard core game.
Getting kids addicted to micro transactions is a disgrace. They have gone too far. We need to put a stop to it.

My 10 point plan is as follows:

1) We all immediately stop buying points. The creators have this right.
2) We convince others to do the same.
3) We stop watching and supporting content creators who use store packs as their engagement model.
4) We use social media to promote these messages.
5) No pre buy of EAFC 25
6) We get the support of, MP's, senators and governments in our push back against loot boxes designed to extract money from children and for those pre-disposed to addictive behaviour. EA are more scared of government legislation than they ever will be of the game’s core community
7) We engage journalists across multiple media. The engine of our messaging should be point 6.
8) We utilised the skill set of the base. We get marketeers, lawyers and industry insiders to help us. Hashtags, media campaigns and contacts will help us breakthrough.
9) We ensure that those creators who are inside EA's create a network are entirely on board.
10) We never stop until we get not only engagement, but improvements.
Thoughts?

2024.05.16 15:00 stairsix I made the pedalboard builder I always wanted, with features like cable spacing, easy sharing, and power compatibility.

Hey all,
Over the years I’ve spent a ton of time (maybe too much) researching pedals and planning out different pedalboard configurations. I’ve used various of tools to do this in the past but I’ve always wanted them to do so much more.
That’s why I’ve been working on pedalboard.app. If you’re familiar with existing pedal planning tools, then you already know the basics of how it works. Here are some special aspects of pedalboard.app:
Pedalboard.app is a tool I built for the community, is 100% free, and an account is not needed to use it. I have so many more features that I plan on adding that I’m really excited about, but I wanted to share it with you now since it’s finally in a usable state. I hope it’s useful for you!
Are there any other features you’d like to see in an app like this? Let me know!
You can check it out here: https://pedalboard.app

2024.05.16 14:52 Henry_POD1 Why 80% of Dropping Odds Alerts are Useless

The majority of dropping odds alerts you receive on POD will likely not lead to a value bet but that’s totally normal.
If you are new to the dropping odds strategy you can expect to place one bet for every five alerts. If you’re more experienced and have knowledge of ‘prime times’ and ‘fruitful markets’ then you will be able to improve significantly on that but even then you’ll still have to sift through alerts that don’t lead to a bet. You may even have times when you go on a streak of 10-15 ‘dud’ alerts but that is par for the course. Remember we get paid for placing good bets but don’t lose money for allowing bad bets to pass us by. Remain disciplined and don’t be disheartened by dry spells. It's also worth mentioning that your alert-to-bet ratio is going to vary massively on what country you are in and what bookmakers you have access to so don't think you're doing something wrong if someone has a better ratio than you because it may well just be because they have different market conditions.
With that being said, in this article, I’m going to look at the two main reasons why an alert might not lead to a bet and how we can improve our alert-to-bet ratio by using some simple tricks and ideas.

Reason 1: The Soft Bookmakers Have Already Dropped Their Odds

Just because the softs are slow to adjust their odds some of the time doesn’t mean they are slow to adjust their odds all of the time. The most common reason you won’t be able to get a bet off is because the odds have already shifted in accordance with Pinnacle meaning there simply isn’t any value in the odds.
Speed up Your Process
You can’t control how long it takes for the soft to adjust but you can control, to a large extent, how long it takes you to react to the alert. Don’t waste time in getting to the market and placing the bet.
💡 Tips to speed up your betting process:
  1. Have your softs open in a separate tab and the bookmaker’s search bar ready
  2. Have your alerts unmuted and volume turned up
  3. Practice reading the team names, market and NVP from your alert quickly so you don’t have to return to POD before placing the bet
  4. Used a fixed stake strategy so you know exactly how much to bet on each bet meaning you don’t have to waste time doing complex calculations
Work in Markets that are Slow to Adjust
Once you have been betting with the strategy for a while you will start to notice patterns. Perhaps a particular competition is throwing up consistent value or perhaps a certain bookmaker is particularly slow across the board… your response to this should be ‘great now I know where to fish’. Set up your filters to target these rich hunting grounds and you will see your alert to bet ratio improve.
Given the fact that each country has different bookmakers which offer different markets and have differing price sensitivity for different sports and competitions I cannot point you to those bookmakers/markets that will be best for you but I will say that in the normal course of betting you will stumble across your fair share of them so keep at it and stay vigilant.

Reason 2: Your Softs Don’t Have the Market

Not every bookmaker has every sport, league, market type or derivative on offer. You will frequently find that an alert won’t yield a bet because you simply have no softs to place a bet on.
Add markets to your coverage
You can reduce the occurrence of this by opening more accounts at soft bookmakers and by betting on softs that have good market breadth and depth like Bet365.
Check Derivative/Correlated Markets
If the odds drop for the over 3.25 market on Pinnacle and your softs don’t cover that market but instead they have the over 3.0 market don’t despair because the odds will have dropped for the over 3.0 market as well given they are heavily correlated. You can check all of the available markets for an alerted event directly from the alerts tab using the ‘QuickLook’ feature which is found by clicking on the blue magnifying glass in the SideKick.
Exclude Competitions
Another way to correct for this is to filter out the competitions that your bookmakers do not cover by using the competition filter’s exclude function. Here’s what I would input in order to filter out alerts for the Nigeria - NPFL competition:notice that the filter is set to ‘exclude’

Why Value Betting isn’t Baseball

The good news is that value betting isn’t baseball, there aren’t any strikes. You don’t pay a penalty for allowing a bad bet to pass you by so if an alert pops up and there’s no value to be had then no worries just wait for the next one. On the other hand you do pay a penalty for placing a bet at negative expected value so do not get tempted to place a bad bet during a period of slowness .
As I said earlier you will inevitably hit a dry spell where you receive 10-15 alerts in a row that don’t lead to a bet. Discipline is the most important trait when it comes to value betting so be strict with yourself and don’t shoot yourself in the foot during these slow periods by either quitting or by placing negative EV bets.

2024.05.16 14:41 Arbrand The Trickster's Veil

As far back as I can remember, I had always been passionate about the great outdoors. My love for the wilderness began when I joined the scouts, exploring the diverse landscapes of Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. I was never a huge fan of the dry, barren landscapes, but camping provided a much-needed escape from the monotony of Orange County suburbia.
The first time I visited the Pacific Northwest, I was enchanted. The scenery was breathtaking—majestic mountains, lush fields, and meandering rivers. It was clear that anyone who praised the desert's beauty had never laid eyes on the Cascades. Seeing grass and wildflowers growing without irrigation was practically a revelation.
When I was old enough, I moved to Washington state, immersing myself in nature every weekend. My adventures took me hiking through dense forests, camping by serene lakes, and occasionally taking mushrooms under peaceful waterfalls.
I joined several online forums dedicated to outdoor enthusiasts. One community that particularly fascinated me was the Northwest Tomb Raiders. This group of history buffs and thrill-seekers was dedicated to uncovering artifacts, whether Native American relics or treasures hidden in modern ruins. Many members were collectors, fencing their finds to museums and archaeologists, which made it a rather profitable side gig, should you be lucky enough.
In the fall of 2009, an intriguing post appeared on the forum. A user named Lokk claimed to have discovered a cache of artifacts with Scandinavian origins. He couldn't carry everything back due to the treacherous terrain and his age, so he shared the coordinates, hoping someone else could retrieve the items. I scrolled down to see a few posts of people planning to loot it in the Spring, when the paths have reopened. One user, Patagooner, planned on going as early as possible.
Excited by the prospect, I gathered my two friends, Carl and Noah, for the expedition. They weren't as enthusiastic about camping as I was, but after I told them how much a single arrowhead goes for on the black market, they were on board. It was the start of winter now, which had its advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side, the rangers would have a harder time spotting us. On the downside, the harsh conditions posed a serious challenge for two inexperienced hikers.
I must’ve blown about four grand at REI on gear for them, justifying it with the knowledge of how much more I would make with two extra packs. That is of course assuming there really were as many artifacts as Lokk had said, and Patagooner hadn’t beaten me there.
The journey began like any other. We met in the pre-dawn darkness and went over our supplies, ensuring we had everything we needed. By mid-morning, we were on our way, my pickup truck winding up the mountain paths. The roads of Olympic National Park were the epitome of the raw, untamed beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
They snake through ancient forests, where towering Douglas firs and Western hemlocks create a verdant canopy overhead. Mist clings to the trees, giving the landscape an ethereal quality. Occasionally, the forest would open up to reveal breathtaking vistas of snow-capped peaks and deep, shadowy valleys.
As we climbed higher, the landscape grew increasingly desolate. The dense forest thinned out, replaced by rugged terrain and jagged rock formations. The air grew colder, and the first flurries of snow began to fall, dusting the ground in a thin, white layer. The road became narrower and more treacherous, winding precariously along the edge of steep cliffs.
Finally, a road closure blockade signaled the end of our journey in the truck. We unloaded three dirt bikes—one mine, two rentals—and continued up the trail. The bikes roared to life, carrying us several more miles into the wilderness. The trail twisted and turned, cutting through dense underbrush and over fallen logs. The snow began to fall more heavily, blanketing the forest floor and muffling the sound of our engines. The world around us grew quieter, more isolated.
Eventually, the snow became too deep to traverse by bike. We dismounted and prepared to continue on foot. The silence of the forest was profound, broken only by the occasional rustle of branches in the wind. I checked my modern GPS, its screen displaying the coordinates and a relief map of our destination.
The cold air bit into our cheeks as we trudged through the snow-laden forest. The silence was almost oppressive, broken only by the crunch of our footsteps and the occasional call of distant wildlife. The GPS indicated we were close to our destination, but the dense underbrush and uneven terrain made progress slow.
Suddenly, Carl's excited whisper cut through the stillness. "Hey, look at that!"
He pointed to a small, furry creature ambling through the trees. It took a moment to realize what it was—a bear cub, innocently exploring its surroundings.
My heart sank. "Carl, get back," I hissed, my voice low but urgent. "Where there's a cub, there's a..."
Before I could finish, a massive shape exploded from the trees. The mother bear, easily three times the size of the cub, charged at Carl with a ferocity. She was a blur of dark fur and powerful muscles, her roar echoing through the forest.
"Run!" I yelled, but it was too late. The bear was upon Carl, swiping at him with her massive paws. He screamed as he fell to the ground, the bear towering over him. Desperation and adrenaline surged through me. I grabbed the nearest heavy branch and swung it at the bear, hoping to distract her.
Noah joined in, shouting and waving his arms. We had to be careful; one wrong move and she would turn on us. The bear snarled, turning her attention away from Carl for just a moment. It was enough for him to scramble backwards, clutching his bleeding arm.
"We have to get him out of here," I shouted to Noah, who nodded, fear etched on his face. The bear, still enraged, seemed torn between attacking us and protecting her cub.
Using the brief respite, we hauled Carl to his feet. His face was white, and he was clearly in shock. Blood soaked his sleeve, dripping onto the snow. "There's a ranger station about two miles from here," I said, my voice shaking. "We need to get him there. Now."
We half-carried, half-dragged Carl through the forest, every shadow and sound heightening our paranoia.
Finally, after what felt like forever, the small, wooden structure of the ranger station came into view. We had been avoiding the rangers to keep our expedition secret, but now it was our only hope.
Pounding on the door, I prayed for a quick response. The door creaked open, and a weathered face appeared. "What happened?" the ranger demanded, taking in the sight of Carl's bloodied form.
"Bear attack," I gasped. "We need help."
The ranger's expression shifted from suspicion to urgency. "Get him inside. We've got a first aid kit and a radio."
As we eased Carl onto a makeshift bed, the ranger inspected his wounds. "You're lucky," he said after a moment. "The cuts are deep, but they missed any major arteries. He'll need stitches, but we can handle that here. No need for an airlift."
The ranger's face darkened as he turned to me. "What the hell are you boys doing out here?”
I hesitated, "We... we were just exploring."
The ranger's eyes narrowed, his anger palpable. "Exploring? In a restricted area? In the middle of winter? Are you out of your minds?"
He worked quickly and efficiently, cleaning and stitching Carl's wounds. Carl winced but stayed silent, his eyes closed in pain.
"Do you have any idea how dangerous it is out here?" the ranger continued, his voice rising. "The storm, the wildlife... This area is off-limits for a reason! You should have known better." he said, pushing a finger into my chest.
"We'll stay here for the night," he continued, "The storm's getting worse, and it's too dangerous to move him now. We'll reassess in the morning. And count yourself lucky I don't arrest your asses."
Night fell quickly, the storm outside growing more ferocious with each passing minute. The howling wind battered the small ranger station, and the walls creaked under the pressure. We huddled in the main room, the tension thick in the air.
The ranger looked at us sternly. "I need to check the perimeter and make sure everything is secure. There are things out there you don’t want to encounter, especially in this storm."
"Things? What do you mean?" Noah asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
The ranger's expression hardened. "Just stay put. No matter what you see or hear, do not leave this cabin. Understood?"
We nodded, the seriousness in his tone leaving no room for argument. "We'll stay put," I said, trying to sound more confident than I felt.
The ranger grabbed his coat and shotgun. "I'll be back in an hour. Do not leave this cabin." With that, he opened the door and stepped into the raging storm, disappearing into the darkness.
As soon as the door closed, I turned to Noah. "We need to go. Now."
Noah's eyes widened. "Are you crazy? He said to stay put."
"If we wait until morning, we'll be escorted out of here and lose our chance. This might be our only opportunity to find those artifacts."
Noah hesitated with uncertainty "But... what about Carl?"
"He'll be fine here. The ranger can take care of him. We have to do this now."
Reluctantly, Noah nodded. "Alright. Let's take what we can and go."
We quickly looted extra gear from the cabin. I checked the GPS one last time before we slipped out into the storm, the cold wind battering us.
The snow fell heavily, obscuring our vision as we slogged through the forest. The ranger was nowhere in sight as we made our way towards the our destination, each step filled with trepidatious excitement.
The storm began to die down as we approached the coordinates. We stepped into a clearing where the undisturbed snow lay like a pristine white blanket. In the center stood an ancient, weathered stone altar, encircled by intricate wooden carvings, delicate metalwork, and beautifully crafted statues. The sight was breathtaking, a treasure trove, a veritable museum of paganism.
Noah and I exchanged glances, our eyes wide with amazement. "Do you see this?" I whispered, barely able to contain my excitement.
"We're going to be rich," Noah replied, his voice trembling with awe. "These must be worth a fortune!"
We approached cautiously, as if the vision before us might disappear. The craftsmanship was stunning. I reached out to touch a carved wooden idol, marveling at the detail. "This is incredible," I said, my voice barely audible.
We began to load our packs with as many artifacts as we could carry, each one more exquisite than the last. It was beyond our wildest dreams. We were so engrossed in our task that we didn't notice the small figure watching us from the ridge.
It wasn't until I turned to leave that I saw her. A young girl, maybe eight years old, stood there, her blue eyes wide with curiosity. She was dressed in simple, rustic clothing, her blonde straight hair blowing gently in the wind. For a moment, we just stared at each other.
"Noah," I whispered urgently, nudging him. "Look."
He turned, his eyes following my gaze. "What the...?" he muttered, his voice trailing off.
The girl took a tentative step forward, her eyes fixed on the items in our hands. There was no fear in her gaze, only a quiet intensity that made my skin crawl.
"Who are you?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
She tilted her head slightly. "My name is Sigyn."
"What are you doing out here, Sigyn?" Noah asked, his voice shaky.
"I live here,"
"You live here?" I echoed, incredulous. "Is there anyone else around?"
"Yes," she whispered.
"Where?" Noah demanded, looking around nervously.
"Everywhere," she said with a giggle.
The way she said it, so matter-of-factly, bothered me deeply. Noah and I exchanged a look, both of us trying to figure out what to do next.
"We can't take her back to the ranger," Noah started, "We'll lose everything."
I nodded, my mind racing. "Sigyn," I said slowly, "we need to know who else is here. Can you help us?"
She looked at me with her piercing blue eyes, then said, "I'm sorry."
"For what?" Noah asked.
"For what's going to happen to you," she replied, her voice tinged with sadness.
"You need to tell us what's going on," Noah said, grabbing her arm roughly. "Why are you out here alone?"
She looked up at him, unperturbed. "I am not alone," she said softly.
Before we could press her further, a loud, guttural mooing sound echoed through the clearing. We turned towards the direction the girl had come from, and there, emerging from the shadows, was the silhouette of an elk. As it approached, my stomach dropped. Its body was a grotesque amalgamation of life and decay. Its skull was fully exposed, the eye sockets dark and empty. Large patches of its ribs were visible, the flesh around them rotted away.
The elk's movements were slow and deliberate, its head swaying as if in a trance. It walked directly towards us, its hollow eyes fixed on Sigyn. The closer it got, the more the stench of death filled the air—a nauseating mix of decay and earth. I fought the urge to retch.
Sigyn stood up, her expression calm. The monster sniffed her gently, its nostrils flaring. Without a word, she climbed onto its back, mounting it like a horse. It was a surreal and horrifying scene ripped straight from a nightmare.
As she settled onto the elk, she looked back at us, "A thief in the night shall reap what he sows," she said, her voice carrying an otherworldly echo. "Beware the price of stolen dreams."
With that, the beast turned and began to walk away, Sigyn riding it into the shadows of the forest. We stood there, frozen in place. The realization that we were in far over our heads began to sink in. This started to feel like a trap.
We need to get out of here," My voice trembling. "Now."
We turned to leave, our packs heavy with the pilfered goods. But as we took our first steps, the forest around us seemed to come alive. Shadows moved among the trees, and whispers floated on the wind. I quickened my pace, glancing nervously over my shoulder.
"Did you hear that?" Noah asked sharply,
"Just keep moving," I commanded.
A figure emerged from the shadows, blocking our path. It was a man, tall and gaunt, his eyes burning with an intense light. "Where do you think you're going?" he asked, his voice cold and menacing.
"We're leaving," I stammered. "We didn't mean any harm."
The man smirked, and with a swift motion, he raised his hand. More figures appeared, closing in on us from all sides. We were surrounded.
"Run!" I shouted, shoving Noah forward.
We sprinted through the forest, branches whipping at our faces and legs. The figures pursued us, their footsteps silent and relentless.
Noah stumbled and fell, his pack spilling open. Statues scattered across the ground, glinting in the moonlight. "Help!" he cried, scrambling to gather the items.
"Leave them!" I shouted, pulling him to his feet. "We have to keep moving!"
But it was too late, their hands seizing us. I struggled, kicking and thrashing, but their grips were too strong. They forced us to the ground, binding our hands with rough, coarse ropes.
"Please," I begged, "Don't hurt us."
The man who had first appeared stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "A thief in the night," he mocked.
They dragged us through the forest, the trees closing in around us like a cage. We were at their mercy.
In the distance, I could see the elk standing at the edge of the clearing, Sigyn still astride its back. Her eyes met mine, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of pity. But then they turned away, disappearing into the shadows once more.
We were dragged into the heart of the forest, our struggles futile against the unyielding grip of our captors. As we broke through the treeline, a massive bonfire came into view, its flames licking the night sky. Shadows danced around the clearing, cast by the flickering light. A woman stood at the forefront, her presence commanding.
Her eyes were milk white, devoid of pupils, and her long, flowing white hair cascaded down her back. She was completely naked, her skin pale and marked with intricate symbols. Atop her head, she wore an elk skull, its antlers extending like eerie, skeletal fingers. She beat a drum emblazoned with more of the same cryptic symbols, each thud resonating deep within my chest.
Around the fire, about two dozen people stood, all drinking from crude, horned cups. Their faces were solemn, eyes fixed on the woman as she led them in a haunting chant. The atmosphere was thick with a mix of reverence and intoxication.
We were forced to our knees before the woman, who paused her drumming to look down at us. Her gaze was haunting, as if she could see into the very depths of our souls.
"Who are you?" Noah demanded, his voice trembling.
The woman ignored him, raising her arms to the sky. The chanting grew louder, the rhythm of the drum faster and more frenzied. The air around us seemed to vibrate with energy, the flames of the bonfire growing higher and more intense.
I glanced at Noah, fear mirrored in his eyes. The woman began to speak, her voice low and melodic, but filled with power, in a language I couldn't understand. Suddenly, she stopped, lowering her arms. The chanting ceased, and an silence fell over the clearing. She looked directly at me, her white eyes unblinking.
I was terrified and confused. She started again, softer, in a way I could understand.
A thief in the night shall reap what he sows, beware the price of stolen dreams.
His laughter guards our hidden groves, where shadows cloak the forest's seams.
For every stolen breath and lie, a thief must meet his painful end.
The tricksters will, our spirits tie, so in his grace, our lives suspend.
The crowd surged forward, grabbing Noah first. He screamed, his terror echoing through the trees as they pulled him towards a makeshift altar beside the bonfire. The woman chanted louder, her voice rising in a hypnotic rhythm as they began their gruesome work.
They stripped him of his shirt and bound his arms to a wooden frame. I tried to move, to help him, but the grip on my shoulders tightened, pinning me to the ground.
The woman approached Noah, holding a knife with a blade that gleamed in the firelight. She started to slice into his back, her movements deliberate and unhurried. Noah's screams pierced the night as she methodically carved the shape of wings into his flesh.
Blood poured from the wounds, soaking the ground beneath him. The crowd's chant grew louder, almost drowning out his cries. I watched in horror as the woman reached into the incisions, breaking the ribs and pulling them outward, creating a parody of wings.
Noah's agony was unbearable to witness. His screams turned to whimpers, his body convulsing in pain. The woman didn't stop until the work was complete, his lungs exposed and hanging grotesquely from his back.
They lifted Noah's broken body and placed him over the fire. The smell of burning flesh filled the air, making me gag. His life ebbed away as the flames consumed him, the once vibrant light in his eyes fading to nothing.
The woman turned to me, her expression devoid of mercy. "You will meet the same fate," she said, "He demands it."
The smell of burning flesh and the sight of his broken body over the fire was seared into my mind. Despair settled over me as I closed my eyes.
A deafening blast shattered the night. My eyes flew open to see the shaman stumbling backward, a gaping wound in her chest. She collapsed to the ground, her white eyes staring lifelessly into the void.
The villagers turned in shock as another shot rang out, this time hitting one of the men holding me. I twisted free from their grasp and saw the park ranger standing at the edge of the clearing, a pump-action shotgun in his hands. He fired again, the sound echoing through the forest, before one of them tackled him to the ground.
"Run!" he shouted, his voice raw and desperate. "Get the hell out of here!"
I didn't need to be told twice. I sprinted into the darkness, the chaos of the clearing fading behind me. Branches whipped at my face, and the snow underfoot made every step a struggle. I could hear the sounds of fighting and gunshots, but I forced myself to keep moving.
The cold air burned in my lungs, but adrenaline pushed me forward. I didn't stop until I reached the station, my legs threatening to give out from under me. I burst through the door and slammed it behind me.
Inside, Carl lay where we had left him, his face pale and twisted in pain. I stumbled to the radio, my hands trembling as I fumbled with the controls.
"Mayday, mayday!" I yelled into the microphone. "This is an emergency! We need help! Please, someone, come quickly!"
Static filled the room, punctuated by my ragged breaths. I repeated the call, my voice growing more frantic with each passing second. Finally, a voice crackled through the speaker. "This is Ranger Station Bravo. What's your location? Over."
I could barely form the words. "Olympic National Park! The ranger station near mount Christie! We're under attack! Please, send help!"
"Copy that. Help is on the way. Stay put and stay safe. Over."
I collapsed to the floor, my body trembling with exhaustion and fear. Carl moaned softly, his eyes fluttering open. "What… What happened? Where's Noah?”
Tears streamed down my face and I found myself choked up. “He’s gone, man. Help is coming.”
The minutes stretched into an eternity as we waited. The wind howled around the station, and every creak and groan of the structure set my nerves on edge. I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched, that the forest itself was closing in on us.
The radio crackled again, this time with a different voice. "Helicopter en route, ETA fifteen minutes. Prepare for extraction."
I glanced at Carl, his eyes filled with confusion. "Hang on. We're getting out of here."
As the minutes ticked by, I couldn't help but think about the ranger. He had saved my life, but he hadn't made it back. My mind conjured up images of what might have happened to him, the cultists overwhelming him in the darkness. A sense of guilt gnawed at me, knowing he had sacrificed himself for us.
The sound of rotors cut through the night, growing louder as the helicopter approached. I ran to the window and saw its searchlight piercing the treetops, scanning for the station.
I helped Carl to his feet, supporting his weight as we made our way to the hatch. The helicopter hovered above, lowering a rescue basket. The wind from the rotors whipped the snow into a frenzy, but I didn't care. Salvation was finally here.
We secured Carl in the basket first, and I watched as he was hoisted up, disappearing into the safety of the helicopter. My turn was next. I realized that I was now alone and exposed. Fear coursing through me as I scanned around the edge of the forest, expecting to be grabbed and taken seconds before my rescue. But the moment never came. As I gripped the rope, I took one last look at the forest below. The flames of the bonfire still flickered in the distance.
I was lifted into the air, the ground falling away beneath me. The helicopter's crew pulled me inside, and I collapsed onto the floor still holding onto my pack, my body finally giving in to exhaustion. The doors closed, and the helicopter banked away, leaving the horrors of the park behind.
Weeks had passed since the harrowing events, but the memories clung to me like the bitter cold. I had returned to civilization, seeking solace in the familiar chaos of the city. I found a wealthy collector through a network of contacts. The artifacts fetched a price tenfold the cost of gear. The money was substantial, but as I held the cash, it felt like a hollow victory.
Noah's absence weighed heavily on me. His disappearance was chalked up as a missing persons case, and despite my best efforts to explain what had happened, no one believed me. The authorities conducted a search of the area, but they found no trace of the cult, the artifacts, or the clearing. It was as if the forest had swallowed up all the evidence.
I returned to the site where we had parked the truck. The dirt bikes were gone, stolen by opportunistic thieves, but the truck remained. I drove back in silence, the road winding through the dense forest. For a moment, I thought I saw the girl watching me from atop a ridge until I realized it was just paranoia. I stepped on the gas a little harder.
Back home, I checked the Tomb Raiders forum again. The post that had led us into the forest was gone, deleted without a trace. I messaged the mods, but apparently, they don’t keep records to maintain confidentiality. I wrote about our experience, detailing every terrifying moment, but the responses were skeptical at best. Most dismissed it as a work of fiction or a desperate cry for attention.
Time passed, and I tried to return to a semblance of normalcy. Yet, the wilderness called to me stronger than ever. It was my sanctuary, the only place where I could find peace amidst the turmoil. I spent more and more time outdoors than ever before, but now it always felt like I was just running from something.
Determined to prove what had happened, I returned to the forest with a camera and recording equipment. This time, I documented every step, capturing footage of the trees, the snow, and the eerie silence that hung in the air. I retraced our path, hoping to find the clearing again. But each night, as I reviewed the footage, something strange would happen. The files would be corrupted or entire segments missing.
I pressed on. I found the site where Noah had fallen, the ground still bearing faint traces of what had happened. I set up the camera and began to speak, recounting the events in detail. As I spoke, a cold wind swept through the clearing, and the camera's screen flickered. I finished my account and turned to check the recording, only to find the file corrupted once again, the footage replaced by static and a faint, mocking laughter.
I returned home, defeated and exhausted. My attempts to share what I had experienced were met with disbelief and ridicule. The files I managed to save were corrupted beyond recognition. It was as if the forest itself was conspiring against me.
Almost exactly one year later, as I browsed the forums, a new post caught my eye. It was cryptic, eerily similar to the one that had led us into the nightmare. It spoke of another trove of artifacts, hidden deep within the wilderness, waiting to be claimed.
The post was signed with a new name: Skygge. Different handle, same style. Another trap. They had taken so much from me, left scars that would never heal. I opened my drawer, my fingers brushing over the cold metal of my weapons. This was the moment I had been waiting for. This time, I'll be ready.
The forest’s secrets won't remain hidden forever.

2024.05.16 14:26 mwngtns It's alive!

It's alive!
About a month ago I posted asking for ideas on replacement pad sensors for the Roland R8. After some trial and error with conductive paint, I completely dumped the original part and replaced it with a PCB with a 4x4 matrix of momentary switches. Minus the velocity, it works like a charm. The switches I used are clicky, which makes the feel different than what it used to be, but for what it's worth, it was a great learning experience (soldering, designing the board and sourcing parts). I know it's not the prettiest sight, but it works!

2024.05.16 14:09 Former_Pen_2173 What is a viable consumer solution in terms of coding LLM? 7b > 70b in coding benchmark? Single / dual 3090 Upgrade or stick with single 4090?

Hey,
I'm new to this and I just want to run my own coding related LLM for privacy reasons while at least trying to keep energy consumption low.
I read so many different things on so many different posts I got quite confused. I apologize in advance for all the questions, please just pick what you feel like answering, the most important ones to me are the first 4.
I own a 4090. I read that 2x 3090 is a lot better because of the VRAM allowing bigger models. I also read models are becoming smaller / more efficient by the week and 1x 4090 outperforms 1x 3090. Furthermore I click on huggingface benchmarks and see that for coding the highest ranked models are 7b / 33b. Not only that but I also read about people running 70b models on just 1x 4090 (with very different results). My mainboard is supporting 1x PCIe 5.0 x16 and 1x PCIe 4.0 x4.
This raises the questions: 1) Are really 7b/33b models the best there are for coding and superior to 70b ones? 2) Does running 7b/33b models on 2x3090 have any benefit over 1x 4090 apart from higher t/s? 3) On the assumption that 1) is answered with yes, what is the probability of 1x 4090 not being sufficient in the near future due to yet to come larger 70b+ models outperforming the current ones? 4) Is a dual GPU setup with a consumer board that only allows for x4 on the second PCIe bus really fine / worth getting a new GPU for?
As for buying 1x or 2x 3090 I'm considering power consumption and value loss over time (I would expect the 4090 to drop a lot after 50xx series gets released in Q4 2024 or whenever while a 3090 bought now is already dirt cheap and probably wouldn't drop as much).
Resulting in these questions (please remember my application is coding): 5) Is a 1x 4090 1x 3090 setup any good or would 2x 3090s come awfully close in performance to the point where the 4090 is not worth it in a dual GPU setup? 6) Would an NVLink setup of 2x 3090 outperform 1x 4090 and 1x 3090 that can't make use of NVLink? 7) Is the higher power consumption of 2x 3090 justifiable by taking into account that LLMs only process information when asked to, 2x 3090 processing faster than 1x 4090 and therefore potentially not needing that much more power in total because the total time span of usage is lower? Or would idle power consumption be the main factor here? 8) Is selling the 4090 and buying 2x used 3090s worth the hassle? Like I know my 4090 is perfectly fine and I would not know that about the used 3090s that I would need to buy. Generally I trust myself to test used cards to the point that they do their job and are not in too shabby condition but it would be quite time consuming so it wouldn't be worth it for a minor upgrade.
Finally, the OS question. I read that Linux generally performs better than Windows for LLMs. Despite that I have also read that undervolting the GPU to have it run more efficiently is not possible in Linux. However, setting a power limit is possible. (( I stumbled upon this about undervolting but I would rather not fry my GPU trying things I have no idea of - even though AI exists to teach me about it ))
9) Is undervolting negligible as long as a power limit is set?
My whole rig is as follows: 14900k 4090 Aorus Z790 Elite AX 32GB 6400 DDR5
Thanks a lot for your time, I realize that's a lot of questions

2024.05.16 14:08 Impish_Hulk_2002 Who created the word “Vondruke?”

I’m actually interested. It was used in a bizarre unaired SNL sketch with Will Ferrell, completely out of the blue and with no explanation, and then years later it turns up on 30 Rock maybe 10-15 years later, same thing. Is it the pet agenda of some writer or producer who worked on both, or was it a callback/homage? Every time I try to search anything about the word online it’s just people yelling out quotes in the comments from whatever sketch it’s in or how much they love 30 Rock or Will Ferrell and I get it: I love those things too. However what I want to know is did you notice it too, it’s weird right, and how do you think it happened? I’ll put on a pot of coffee, let’s get out the bulletin board and pushpins and yarn.

2024.05.16 14:00 fofo_ibobo Accurate chess board images

I tried to get some generated images of a normal chess board with the normal setting of pieces. But whatever prompt I try, dall-e is not able to generate an accurate representation. How is that possible? It doesn't seem that complicated and there should be somehow enough data in the Internet about this. But it always mixes up the colors or the lines or the pieces. Does anyone have an idea?

2024.05.16 13:57 DavidSteinNY Will the roof over my screen porch collapse on me?

Will the roof over my screen porch collapse on me?
I want to replace the deck board with timbertech decking horizontal not angle. The home builder put the support posts and rails on top of the decking. If I cut back all these deck boards to the edge of the 2x4 will the porch roof collapse on me? I plan on using a saw zall and multi purpose tool to trim right to the end and not anything under neath. I will also add 2x8 around the sides and front of the deck inside the joists so the new boards have something to screen into, Any ideas, tips, precautionary measures please let me know, Pictures attached. Deck/porch is 15 years old.

2024.05.16 13:54 Super-Thought34 got super screwed over on a flight, is there any way to get a refund?

basically we had a flight booked for 1 pm, got there, boarded late, waited on the runway for an hour then was told that they needed to deplane because of a computer issue on the plane. we all get off, flight gets formally cancelled, new flights/refunds are issued. we opt for a new flight on delta, are told our tickets are paid for, then go to the delta counter. we check in, check bags, get through tsa, then wait 5 hours for our flight. we go to board and are told our tickets were voided 2 hours prior by whatever travel agency spirit used to book tickets. Delta said it wasn't their problem, spirit is also saying it isn't their problem, and the travel agency (travelmeetings?) seems to just not actually exist anywhere on the internet. we have been stuck in the airport for almost 24 hours at this point, and they won't issue us a refund or new tickets. any ideas?

Speculation: The stock is sexy, particularly among the younger people. What was Easy-A is now Easy-Gamestop. Looking really great in the black.
8.15am - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790717515523658119
Description: First we have a scene from the movie Prestige, with a Michael Caine voiceover about a magicians magic trick of making something disappear. The quote is "The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back." Meanwhile a person with a gamestop logo is being electrocuted to life a little frankenstein like and then a Gamestop logo bursts through an explosion. We then go to a fight scene with the song "back in the saddle again" by Aerosmith playing.
Speculation: The quote from the Prestige in full talks about the different parts of making something disappear. In full " Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige"." The Aerosmith song also has some interesting lyrics, "Ridin' into town alone by the light of the moon" "I'm ridin', I'm loadin' up my pistol, I'm ridin', I really got a fistful, I'm ridin', I'm shinin' up my saddle, I'm ridin', this snake is gonna rattle"
8.30am - https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790721293089964126
Description: Not sure what film this is from but essentially we have a group of people looking for someone who is messing with them, they come across the infamous meme of death looking for Gamestop and then they track down Roaring Kitty alongside 893489 CHIMP located in Boston. We then get a message of Prep mode and arm ready for transport, hold pattern until further notice and a message again on a watch saying the same with a Gamestop logo
Speculation: WS looking for DFV and just coming across more memes, not really understanding it. As pointed out by many, 893489 is the hexcode for purple https://www.colorhexa.com/893489 which could be a direct reference to people DRSing. Final message suggests it's a hold until further notice, potentially a gamestop announcement who knows?
8.45am - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790725065585439065
Description: We have a scene from Ozark where the wife of the money laundering family is alone in her bedroom reflecting to the sound of The Daily Mail by Radiohead. Some Gamestop logos on the wall which i think replace a picture of her family in the original clip. More reflection.
Speculation: Not sure about this one other than the family in Ozark were right on the line of legality when it came to what they were doing, essentially they were money laundering and in the end it cost them their family. SHFs messing with Gamestop to the point of legality could be what costs them their family of investors?
9.00am - https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790728848226521547
Description: This is a famous scene from Star Wars where Han Solo takes them through the asteroid field despite C3-PO's cry that the odds are so greatly stacked against them, approximately 3720-1 to be exact! "Never tell me the odds" says Hans Solo. The Song Come Along by Cosmo Sheldrake comes on as the ship navigates it's way through.
Speculation: This play is a high risk play as we all know but DFV doesn't care about the odds, so many people have told him how crazy he is but that doesn't stop him absolutely nailing it. The song has some interesting lyrics to pick a few, "Don't let moments pass along, And waste before your eyes", "We'll be here when the world slows down, And the sunbeams fade away, Keeping time by a pendulum, As the fabric starts to fray" Full lyrics here
9.15am - https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790732615022195139
Description: This is taken from The Chappelle Show "when keeping it real goes wrong". In this sketch Kitty replaces a lot of the words to relate to him and the scene ends with Wu-Tang being brought up.
Speculation: Really i think this is just DFV having some fun with this sketch, replacing the woofs for meows, it brings up Wu-Tang as well which was a talking point way back in the NFT marketplace chat.
9.30am - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790736391124774975
Description: We have a clip of Moon Knight from Fortnite alongside the song Day and Night by Kid Cudi. This is the official fortnite music video.
Speculation: The Moon Knight in fortnite is considered a rare character. In fact the last time the Moon Knight was in the fortnite shop was Nov29, 2023. With that, it's a very valuable and sort after skin. Also worth noting about the Moon Knight, "For a quick run-down: Moon Knight is actually a former mercenary named Marc Spector. One day, when he's left for dead in the desert, the ancient Egyptian moon god Khonsu revives him. Along with a new lease on life, Khonsu gifts Marc with god-like powers to fight evil". Take from that what you will.
9.45am - https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790740164848861227
Description: Not 100% sure on the cartoon being shown but the rap is Mr. Niceguy by Will Smith.
Speculation: I don't think DFV is liking the public dissing he is getting from various media outlets but really he doesn't care that much as he can just nail some memes he has lined up like this. If you want the full lyrics to the song, you can find it here
10am - https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790743946764644659
Description: This is the epic reveal in fight club and DFV has replaced a lot of the words. In the original scene, if you haven't watched fight club, the main protagonist has put the pieces together to realise that he himself is actually the same person as the other protagonist in the film and it was him alone that accidentally setup a sort of movement against the financial elite. In this clip DFV plays off the two characters between DFV and Roaring Kitty.
Speculation: Roaring Kitty was the twitter handle and Youtube profile for Keith Gill where he would speculate on the stock because he just loved doing it. DFV was the reddit handle where he is associated to that other sub i can't mention here but you know where i mean. I think that DFV is saying that what started as a fun speculation of the stock became something bigger than himself with his other channel in DFV on reddit. Now the wheels have moved and in the film it ends with the financial institutions being blown up, perhaps something similar metaphorically is already in place right now. It's actually a great analogy from DFV about his situation.
10.15am - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790747714440892825
Description: This is the scene in Breaking Bad where Walter comes clean to his wife Skylar about all the money he has made selling meth. Skylar sees him for who he really is in this scene and really it's the beginning of when Walter begins to really lose himself. There is a funny insert of Methamphetameme and a mention of Caroline who i believe is his wife in real life.
Speculation: I think this is just DFV having some fun and giving an idea of how nuts it probably was for him to talk to his wife about everything that has happened/is happening. I know to us DFV seems like some sort of oracle but to many people he would just seem like some of stock bro who is nuts, even his wife.
10.30am - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790751492451754012
Description: This is from the oceans 11 film again where the gang are discussing about what they are and how they have come to be. DFV inserts "the Cohen crunch" as what everything could be called and also says "One could make the argument that because it was in fact Cohen joining the board that seemed to kick things off maybe it should be...". DFV then has a big reveal of the reddit user u/ avocado-in-my-anus.
Speculation: Is this all about Ryan Cohen? Is it about DFV? Is it about the Squeeze? Or is it about Avocado in my anus!? - If you follow to that reddit user you will see 3 posts, all on October 29th of each of the last 3 years, all saying Happy Cat Day posted to 3 different subreddits, "never tell me the odds", "next fucking level" and "woah dude". Why is october 29th so significant? See for yourself here
10.45am - https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790755264733626879
Description: First we have a clip taken from CNBC where they say "is Roaring Kitty the one running this company?". It then cuts to a classic superbad scene of lots of dicks being drawn.
Speculation: I would imagine CNBC's angle here is that in their opinion Roaring Kitty is the one helping the stock so much with his influence that he might as well be running the company. Judging by the fact we go to a load of dicks after that I don't think DFV agrees with that opinion...
11am - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790759048985612468
Description: This is taken from The Avengers Endgame and it's where Peter Quill and Thor are told they should fight one another for the honour of the leadership of the Guardians of the Galaxy. They reply they don't want to go against each other and then there is a little humored ambigurity over who is in charge.
Speculation: This could be about DFV and RC. Not 100% which one is which but DFV is saying they are on the same side and respect each other in their view on what is best for Gamestop. DFV conceding he isn't in charge here and sort of plays into the last meme.
11.15am - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790762813868175516
Description: This is a scene taken from Love Actually and you will most likely recognize Rick from The Walking Dead. In the original clip he is filming his best friend (and it turns out he actually is in love with his best friends wife in this film). It then cuts to some memes of Ryan Cohen and a clip from his stream about updating thesis regularly.
Speculation: I think this is summed up pretty well by u/ starhammer4billion. "In 2021, DFV was mad, that R.C. did not push the button/do the buyback and told us clearly that he did not like R.C. anymore with this meme. Now in 2024, he rewinds that meme and tells us, that he thought that at the time in 2021, but that the investment thesis evolved over time and he now sees R.C. as a supermodel. So basically he saw what R.C. was doing in 2024, which he did not in 2021 and he likes R.C. again now. Probably because R.C. pushed the button and also did some plan with loopholes and stuff that DFV may not have thought about."
11.30am - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790766591526735887
Description: Here we have a clip from the music video Gossip Folks by Missy Elliot. Some of the lyrics have been replaced by Roaring Kitty. It tells the story of DFV and then there is a ton of emojis that read 😳💩😿🥜🐸🍦🤢👍👊💀🥸👀🤩⚡️🎮🚀🍄💥🍏🤨😵‍💫💜🫂👌🤝⛺️😼🎯👀🐶🇺🇸🎤👀🔥💥🍻
Speculation: DFV is saying this is going to go down again 3 years later after it all went down last time. The emojis i think tell the story so far too and maybe what's to come. I'll try my best to elaborate - it's really tinfoil but why not.
Edit\* As pointed out by u/ mmilad https://www.reddit.com/Superstonk/comments/1ctc9g2/dfvs_tweet_yesterday_with_emojis_are_all_rcs/ - they emojis do run in a sort of chronological order to a lot of RC's tweets, if you go to his twitter page and scroll through from his first tweet you can begin to tick off the emojis one by one.
11.45am - https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790770363627921776
Description: We have a pizza being cut in too more and more slices and dubbed onto the pizza are reddit awards along with DFV's last position update post.
Speculation: The amount of awards that were constantly being given to this post got so out of hand i can't even think how many notifications and reddit coins DFV must have got back in the day. Definitely a joke on DFV's part and just a reminder to how funny it was the amount of awards he was getting.
12pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790774146994966570
Description: This clip is taken from Spiderman i think the one where Spiderman goes dark but i can't remember exactly. The music is The Black Swan taken from Swan lake and it cuts to the movie of Swan Lake with Natalie Portman as the Black Swan and Kitty being dubbed on her face as she transforms.
Speculation: Black swan events are defined as "A black swan is an unpredictable event that is beyond what is normally expected from a situation and that has potentially severe consequences". When GME does squeeze, it's going to have severe and brutal consequences for the market.
12:15pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790777913245421806
Description: First we have Snoop Dogg in his music video for Gin and Juice talking about drama in the GME then we cut to Scarlet Envy saying "is it me, am i the drama", "am i the villain?"
Speculation: Just DFV having fun with all the drama that is being caused through GME, through his memes and everything in a fun light hearted DFV meme of way.
12:30pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790781688848450012
Description: The first clip is taken from Oceans 12 where Ryan is bring the gang back together for an even bigger heist of casinos. Then we have part of the heist where he is stuck waiting in the dining cabinet and cannot escape until they let him out, then we cut to 2 people talking, "waiting", "for what?", "for this". Finally we cut to Batman, i think in the Dark Knight where the Joker is in the hospital and plans to blow it up.
Speculation: Bigger squeeze than last time, band back together, GME holders for the last 3 years could be like the guy in the box just let out in time by DFV, we say "where the fck you been?", he has been waiting, waiting for this.
12.45pm - https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790785463118348420
Description: This is taken from The Dark Knight rises where Bane states "it doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan", "no one cared who i was until I put on the mask", "was getting caught part of your plan?" "of course"
Speculation: This is taken online about Bane in this movie, "Everything that Bane did was never for himself, not really, we find out his real loyalty later and I think that is a big reason why he said who he is wasn’t important. He wasn’t there to impress the masses, he was there to execute a plan, to be the playmaker for a person he cared for. He wasn’t one who liked distractions and the concern over who he was, I took it as he saw as unimportant to what the plan was itself" DFV doesn't matter, the whole thing is bigger than him now, similar to the fight club tweet reference.
1pm - https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790789242513433071
Description: This clip is the big reveal in The Usual Suspects. BIG SPOILER HERE TO THE FILM - The police chief realizes in the film that he has just been completely done by the person who actually committed the crime and he was right there all along in the station . In this clip the drawn sketch of the suspect is replaced with the 'ill do it again' meme.
Speculation: The mug has roaring kitty on it so I wonder if this really is DFV noticing a similar pattern to what is happening with the stock as to what happened before and has made that realization that it's time to come back and this is all on again. HF's digging the same hole for themselves.
1.15pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790793012936851665
Description: This is a clip showing Keith Gill and a narrator saying that investors were looking for someone to blame for losing big on Gamestop. Then it cuts to "shut up bitch" from The Rock in WWF.
Speculation: This is a lol meme and basically DFV saying people invest themselves it's not his problem. People did try to sue him if i remember so it's a bit of a fuck you to them.
1:30pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790796790360363016
Description: This is taken from Seinfeld and is about how George goes so far just to zing a guy. DFV replaces some words and makes this about the previous tweet, some more fun on his part.
Speculation: The episode i believe this takes place is called "The Money" and the episode in which George actually flies out is called "The Comeback", jokes aside that's some interesting references...
1:45pm - https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790800562654691686
Description: This is taken from the Saturday Night Live sketch 'old friend'. It's about two old friends reconnecting, DFV expertly chooses this and only has to change the last name of the Keith in the sketch.
Speculation: Everyone thinks DFV is nuts, i mean the guy is posting a lot of memes and taking away my work mornings trying to understand them. Maybe he just loves memes, who knows?
2pm - https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790804340673789978
Description: This is a video of beat saber to the song freaks by timmy trumpet and savage. "The bass and the tweeters make the speakers go to war", "the mighty trumpet brings the freaks out to the floor", "where the freaks at?". Big tune and then the vibing cat makes an appearance.
Speculation: Hard to say much about this other than it's a fun song and makes you vibe just like the cat. People are coming to twitter to see his memes and we are all vibing out off of it.
2.15pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790808112741630320
Description: Shows a man being followed around by a man in a suit with a red right hand. I'm not sure what this is taken from but the song is definitely Red Right Hand by Nick Cave and the Bad seeds. For me personally this song is most associated with The Peeky Blinders.
Speculation: The man could be anyone short on GME and the man following him making him scared could be DFV or whatever else is going to pound on those shorts. If you want the lyrics to the song then you can find them here
2.31pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790812277530034448
Description: Shows a bear on a pink recliner with a kitty sneaking in the background.
Speculation: This was a direct response to a Jim Cramer tweet who was essentially poking fun at DFV by saying he should make more memes as it's not working on helping GME. Worth noting that this doesn't look like a scheduled tweet and was probably not planned.
2:45pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790815662203617755
Description: Shows Jim Carrey not 100% which movie it is though i recognize it with a red graph overlayed showing the stock price going down. His smile deteriorates but he seems to have some sort of demented plan in a weird way.
Speculation: Stock might be going down and that might initially take the smile off but the creepy smile at the end shows that it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, they are going to get it by the end.
3:00pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790819440617033914
Description: This is taken from the Truman show where Jim Carrey plays a character who's whole life is a television show for everyone else to watch. He is unaware of this but starts to become more aware as the film goes on. This particular clip is where he is trying to get to the edge of the world to see behind the curtain and the director is trying to stop him with lightning strikes and storms and whatever else he can throw.
Speculation: They are doing everything they can to keep a lid on GME. Firing as many shots as they can but it's not working. Is this the best they have?
3.15pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790823211745063394
Description: This is a clip from Dunkey's best games of 2017 and here we see a game where it's just boss fight after boss fight and is really fun.
Speculation: This is a game for us, they can hammer down the stock and do what they want but GME holders just keep buying more and moving to the next level
3.30pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790826988019528035
Description: This is taken from Tenet and is about inverted bullets. It talks about being able to drop bullets and bring bullets back up and move bullets without touching them.
Speculation: I certainly don't understand even a little of what is going on with the stock, but you can still have a feel for what is happening with the stock and it feels good right now even with the dip. Could be something to do with inverse hedging but don't know enough about that to speculate.
3.45pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790830761542664192
Description: Firstly we have the Matrix where Neo is about to fight Morpheus and then we have Alice in Wonderland with Alice going down into the rabbit hole. (The rabbit hole is mentioned in the Matrix too when Neo is given the pill option).
Speculation: The scene where Neo fights Morpheus is really the first time we start to see Neo believe in his ability to be the chosen one but also understand the power being able to beat the matrix. With the Alice in Wonderland it's about seeing how far the rabbit hole goes, things will get more crazy for sure and we are going to find out just how deep this goes.
4:00pm - https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790834536403574936
Description: Here we have the music video for Karma police by Radiohead. A man is running from a car at a hobble speed and then stops turns around and there is a trail of fuel heading towards the car that has stopped. He pulls out a box of matches from his back pocket and is just before to set the car alight by dropping a lit match on the fuel.
Speculation: Another Radiohead song, you can find the full lyrics here but to pick a line out "this is what you get when you mess with us". Whilst being slowly chased down, there is going to be a flip reverse based on the trail left by the shorts only to blow it all up.
8:00pm - https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790894938277695671
Description: This is taken from the Shawshank redemption where the main protagonist has escaped from the prison after being wrongly imprisoned for many years. DFV has changed some of the narrators (Red) words in showcase his story of being wrongly accused in 2021 and having the flee out of the spotlight. He talks about pressure and time, he presents a lot of memes he has created over the years and then shows a particular screenshot of one of his streams.
Speculation: This tells DFVs story but also has some juicy parts. I think Red in this is a bit like the reddit crew (us) keeping tabs on his story but DFV is saying to escape like him it takes pressure and time (could be gamma squeeze, could be LEAPS, could be DRS, could be holding and buying, could be ALL of it) but all it takes is time and pressure. The memes he posted i wonder if some of those have found their way into various subs over the last 3 years without any of us knowing it came from DFV. The steam he screenshot has been spoken about a lot this morning but it seems to come from one of his youtube streams when GME last broke $30.
Hope you enjoyed these takes.
Love ya DFV

2024.05.16 13:45 Organic-Possession43 Consider this my Formal Complaint Regarding Lenovo Legion Y740 Service Experience

I do not know if you have the patience to read this review as it is over 1800 words, but I have tried my best to write it in a narrative of how the events happened. I just had to express how bad and sad I feel about this whole experience. Please do read it and help me find a solution.
I have a Lenovo Legion y740 I7 processor and RTX 2060 that I saved up for 3 years and bought for 150000 Rs in May 2020. I treated my laptop with all the love in the world, learning about all the laptop etiquette that is required to operate such a powerful machine. The laptop ran most games beautifully and I enjoyed every moment with it. I traded stocks, did my data analysis for my job, and kept a detailed plan for my future studies on my laptop. For around 4 years, all was good...
Until…
On Feb 1st, 2024, my laptop would not turn on and the next day (Feb 2nd) I rushed it to this Lenovo service center. I explained the problem and the first thing I was asked was if it was under warranty. It was not under warranty.
They explained that there could be an issue with the motherboard, and they would get back to me soon. So, I waited and waited and waited. There was no response. So I called them on Feb 5th, 2024, and asked them about my laptop, they asked me for another day, and then on 6thFeb, I got an Email (Screenshot attached), saying that I had two options, one was to get the motherboard replaced( which they told me would cost me about 60000 Rs) The other one is more interesting and cost-effective, it was the chip level repair option where they would replace the chip and ( as estimated in the email) would cost 5000rs to 7000rs and would take 25 to 35 days( remember this, it is important for what’s coming). I gave a thumbs up for the chip level repair on 6th Feb 2024.
On 26th March 2024, I sent them an email(screenshot attached) asking about the status as it had been over 50 days since I had given them my laptop. On 27th March 2024, they responded saying it is still under repair and the lab team has not responded to them, and that they’ll get back to me in a few days. I requested them to keep me updated in the process, and they said “Noted” (remember this, it too is important).
On 1st April 2024 (over 60 days now) I called them to enquire, and they gave me complete technical jargon about why the repairs were late, thinking I would not understand it, but guess what, I did understand it and realized that they are, for some reason, the people at their “Lab” where not able to find out why my laptop was not turning on.
On 2nd April, This is when I sent them a strongly worded mail. (screenshot attached). Expressing how they have wasted my time of 60 days and how I want a fully functional laptop and I am not willing to pay anything currently.
They did not respond to this email. So, I called them and they explained that there was something wrong with the CPU and that I must prepay for the part to be delivered to the center. It had been over 60 days, so I agreed to this repair.
After another Email exchange where I request the quotation of the price. On 4th April 2024, they sent me a quotation of 20284 Rs (Screenshot attached) and asked for another 4 to 6 weeks. I promptly make the payment, explain to them it’s my hard-earned money and do the repairs promptly.
Fast forward to 22nd April 2024, when I asked for an update, they replied saying it is still under observation in the lab.
On 29th, 30th April, and 2nd May, I sent three emails asking for an update about my laptop, but there was no response(please keep in mind that ‘noted’ part they said about updating me). On 3rd May, I got an email saying my laptop was not functional (screenshot attached), I called them, (By now it has been over 90 days), over a 23-minute call (I have all the calls recorded) …
They told me my laptop was still not functional and that I should take the refund of the 20284 Rs and collect the laptop and it is best if I just go. I don’t want that, my 90-plus days have value. My time and mental health have value!!! The anguish and anxiety I went through have to mean something, there has to be some result to my 90 days!!!
On that day, I rushed to the service center and had a word with the management where I clearly and strongly expressed my worries, concerns, and anger with the management and how they have caused me over 90 days of absolute mental anguish (this conversation took over an hour and a half). They blamed the lab, the engineer, parts delivery, and many more things when I confronted them.
Let’s get one thing clear, as a consumer who has paid 150000 Rs for the laptop and 20284 Rs for the part and repairs, do I have to understand the internal workings of a service center? Should I go talk to the engineer parts delivery personnel or the lab? Or should I as a consumer hold the service centre accountable for all the loss of time and money? Are the internal workings of a service center my problem? I’d say no, it’s not, so I do not want to hear why it is late, because whatever the reason is, it is not my problem. My time, effort, and money have been wasted.
After bantering for a long time, I simply requested a fully functional laptop or refund of 20284 and compensation for the 90+ days they wasted mine. For this, they asked for time till May 11th, 2024, to which I agreed, and asked them to not expect me to pay anything.
On 11th May 2024, AFTER OVER 100 DAYS, I got a call from the engineer saying my laptop works and asked for the password to check the functionality!!! Hurray !!! I leaped in joy and rushed to the service center. I sat down they turned on the laptop, I put in my password and the screen opened.
BUT………
As the laptop settled in, the fan speed increased and there was a rough noise from the fan, like the fan was rubbing against something as it turned, the sound was so loud that even the sound from the laptop speakers could not subdue it. I raised an issue immediately.
The facts – 1. They had my laptop for over 100 days.
  1. The fan has an issue that was not present before I gave them the laptop.
So, I asked them to fix it, to which they surprisingly agreed. For the sake of documentation, I sent them an Email alerting them of the situation.
Ohh but it’s not over yet….
On 13th May 2024,
They sent an Email (screenshot attached) saying it was fixed and that I could collect it. So
So, on the 14th of May 2024, I am going to pick up my beloved laptop from the center. I carefully inspect it as per their instruction on their bulletin board AND I FOUND ANOTHER ISSUE. This time, when I used discrete graphics instead of switchable ones, MY SCREEN WOULD BE VERY DIM until connected to an external display and this was unacceptable after they claimed full functionality.
They took my laptop in for another inspection, and after 1 and a half hours, they came out saying it worked well on their testing SSD and suggested that I back up my data (which I did at that moment) and allow them a day to factory reset my laptop. For which I agreed, and they offered to deliver it to the next day. The laptop works fine except for this software issue and I was in high hopes that it would be delivered fine.
The next day, 15th May 2024, I got an email saying my laptop was to be delivered to my workplace, which is only 20 minutes away from the service center. And I get a call and go pick up my laptop around 1:40 pm. I let it rest at my desk and around 4: 45pm, after all my meetings, I open my laptop.
AND GUESS WHAT FOLKS….
The moment I opened the laptop I found that the hinge was damaged, the laptop had not been reassembled properly, the sides were loose, and the hinge was damaged to the point where the display on the right side of the laptop was …POPPING OUT.
My blood boiled, I immediately called the service center and told them about this, but they responded very insensitively. I rushed my laptop to the service center.
On the verge of tears, I explained everything, and the manager Rashid Khan, and Engineer Prasad Reddy were just saying the same thing over and over again- about how they deliver many laptops every day and most have never had such an issue. They need time till Friday 17th May 2024 to give me a course of action for this issue, about how they need to check the CCTVs at their service center to see if this was caused by the internal team.
But here are the facts,
My laptop has been in the care of the service center for over 100 days.
On 15th May 2024, it was delivered at around 1:40 pm.
On 15th May 2024, at around 4:45 pm when I opened it, I found that the hinge and display were damaged.
I reluctantly agreed and sent them an email to keep things documented.
Now I sit and write this with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes. I do not want to be experiencing this. I just want my laptop back in a fully functional condition.
Here are what mistakes the Service center made according to me :
  1. They asked for 25 to 35 days and did not inform me until I emailed them 50 days later.
  2. There was absolutely no communication from their side about my laptop’s condition even after they ‘Noted’ my request. They kept me on hold for a long time or simply did not respond to my calls.
  3. If they had not diagnosed the problem by day 35, they should have informed me and I would have taken it elsewhere, it is because they are the official Lenovo service center that I trusted them in the first place.
  4. Even after repairs, they did not check ‘Full functionality’ and yet claimed the laptop was okay.
  5. I had to go to the center and diagnose my laptop because they kept overseeing everything.
