2024.05.15 13:21 Fluffhead3344 Gifts for country club sponsors?

I’m joining a nice golf and country club in New York, and I was wondering what the etiquette is regarding gifts for my sponsors. This is a nice club with a long wait list. Not quite Shinnecock, but still a higher end one. What’s the standard protocol here? I have a primary sponsor, a secondary sponsor, and 4 other letters. Am I expected to give them some type of thank you gift, or is it unnecessary?

2024.05.15 13:10 FaithlessStoic Entering UK from EU before Skilled Worker VISA application

I'm currently in process of hopefully moving to the UK to work. I'm waiting for the COS to go through, but as the company I'll be working for is a first time sponsor, it seems that can take a while. I'm supposed to start June 1st, but it seems fairly unlikely that the COS and then VISA will be in place by then, even if I do pay to speed up the VISA.
As I'm from the EU I can enter the UK without a VISA, and I'm considering just going there before as a sort of holiday until the VISA hopefully comes through and I'd then be able to start working straight away. I am, however, unsure if already being in the UK will affect anything in the VISA application I have to make? I'm thinking if there's a question about when I'll be entering the UK, and then answering a date before the application was put in, that this might raise questions?
I've already quit my current job, moved out of my flat and was thinking getting a head start on living in the UK might be a better use of time, since I have a bit of money to help me through it, than couch surfing at friends and family.

2024.05.15 13:01 Potential_Speaker834 Question about expiration

Took a job in January that upgraded my clearance from Secret to TS. Better opportunity has come up and I accepted a job that starts this month.
My T5 was adjudicated and granted this month. My new job announcement advised the new position is only requiring a Secret. The employees I know there says it is a TS.
Is this current TS going to be good but not have a sponsoring agency and I just get downgraded in a sense? Would I need to find a gig requiring a TS or see if this new boss confirms it needs a TS.
Don’t want to lose it but trying to see if it has some time to expire or how it shows in the system I guess.
Thanks!

2024.05.15 12:31 Help_plsdr Help pls

I need a little help and advice on this one,
So I did 1.5 year of nursing, and 6 years of MD school in Colombia (South America), then graduated and did + 1 year of work as rural doctor, I'm choosing to change my path as the pay rate and work conditions are like sh** here and the system is over controlled by insurance and corporations (5-9 USD x H) not even getting paid on time, 0 respect and being exposed to dangerous environments verbal threaten that can escalate quickly into physical violence for problems that are completely dependent on administrative issues, and mostly all the job opportunities are attached to nepotism, among others...
I got accepted to complete a BSH online with a US university, but I'm thinking if I should switch to Computer science instead ? What opportunities I could explore having the academical background and the other responsibilities mentioned (please check background in the part below)
I would like to explore a new field that I can still combine with medicine and have an opportunity to keep helping others but also to help myself and escape the conditions mentioned...
Any comments with experience in the area or just general opinions can be really helpful for me, I'm also oversaturated of thinking about this problem, and I'm looking for alternatives to escape this situation.
Background: come from low income country, (TWC or any other name) half of my profession was sponsored and 50% I'm paying in debt. (parents-sick= both are requiring time and care, and it will only get worse in the long term)
Feeling : oversaturated every day for the responsibilities behind, and lost for not knowing what to do next.

2024.05.15 12:25 Little-Apple-4414 Why we should end all pathways to PR. Start in PEI and then rest of the country.

I have been paying close attention to the PEI PR protest. Your Workforce Minister Jenn Redmond mentioned that the protestors should pivot to "in demand" jobs.
Questions for Jenn.
Are there no Canadians available to fill these roles?
Does she expect foreigners to stay in these roles after they obtain PR after 6 months of work?
Does she not see how given away Canadian passports for 6 months of work in any of these basic jobs might lead to a long term disaster?
It took me YEARS to get PR... it was a cherished moment, and something EARNED from contributing to the Canadian economy with highly technical and niche skills obtained through a REAL education. In the YEARS it took me to get PR, I integrated into Canadian society and made it MY HOME.
Now people expect to get PR from working as a cleaner for 6 months? Can we cheapen citizenship any further?
These lowly skilled and low paid "newcomers" will sponsor their entire families and use up every social safety net and benefit. These social safety nets are turning into wage subsidies for corporations who refuse to pay decent wages to CANADIANS.
These incredibly short sighted policies are structurally changing our economy into a low productivity, highly subsidized economy full of uncompetitive, risk averse zombie companies. It is financially insolvent in the long run. And as someone of Indian heritage, my quality of life has drastically declined in the past 3 years as I am associated with these scammers and opportunists from the armpits of India.
Get out there and protest!

Kansas

Despite voters overwhelmingly rejecting a constitutional amendment that would have allowed abortion restrictions in the state, Kansas Republicans passed several anti-abortion bills into law late last month, overriding the governor’s veto.
The first bill, HB 2436, makes it a crime to “coerce” someone into having an abortion. Democrats attempted to widen the scope of the bill to include all kinds of reproductive coercion, like pressuring someone to become or stay pregnant and prohibiting their access to birth control, and enshrine a right to “reproductive autonomy.” Republicans voted down the amendment.
The second bill, HB 2749, requires medical facilities and providers to (1) ask patients their reason for having an abortion and (2) report the data, including personal information about the patient, to the legislature every other year. Gov. Laura Kelly (D) agreed with the objections of Democrats and reproductive rights advocates, saying when she vetoed the bill that there is “no valid reason to force a woman to disclose to the legislature why she is seeking an abortion.”
  • Democrats offered numerous amendments to HB 2749, including one to require men to report to the legislature their reasons for having a vasectomy and another requiring men to report why they are seeking treatment for erectile dysfunction. Republicans rejected all of them.
Finally, the Republican legislature overrode Kelly’s line-item veto allocating $2 million to the Pregnancy Compassion Awareness Program, created last year with a different veto override. The program is run by an anti-abortion group called the Kansas Pregnancy Care Network, which refers pregnant people to crisis pregnancy centers designed to use misleading information to discourage them from obtaining an abortion.

Louisiana

Louisiana’s legislature is doubling down on its anti-abortion laws, passing bills to increase criminalization and refusing to add exemptions to its abortion ban.
Earlier this month, the Louisiana House took up a bill passed by the Senate that would make it a crime, punishable by jail time, to possess abortion-inducing medication. SB 276, sponsored by 23 Republicans and one Democrat, was initially written to create a punishment for coercing someone into an abortion without their knowledge or consent (e.g. spiking a drink). However, House legislators recently added an amendment to the bill that classifies mifepristone and misoprostol as Schedule IV substances alongside some opioids and benzodiazepines. A pregnant person possessing the drugs for their own use could not be charged, but others who intend to distribute them to pregnant people seeking an abortion or store them for their own potential future use would face up to ten years in prison.
“Neither is a drug of abuse or dependence, and that is what the controlled drug schedule is for,” said [emergency room Dr. Jennifer] Avegno of the abortion drugs. “It makes no scientific or medical sense to put these drugs in the same category as Xanax or Valium.”
Mifepristone is a drug that blocks a hormone called progesterone, which is necessary for a pregnancy to continue. Misoprostol causes uterine contractions, causing the body to expel the pregnancy tissue. Mifepristone is also used to treat Cushing’s disease, a hormonal disorder. Misoprostol is also used to induce labor, manage a miscarriage and in the treatment of ulcers. Neither are addictive. “People do not go around taking them and getting dependent and having bad outcomes because of it,” said Avegno. “It’s like saying your blood pressure medicine or insulin is a drug of abuse.”
A week later, Republicans on the House Criminal Justice Committee voted 7-4 to reject a bill to add rape and incest exceptions to the state’s total abortion ban. House Bill 164, written by Democratic Rep. Delisha Boyd, would have allowed girls younger than 17 to have abortions if they became pregnant as the result of sexual assault.
“That baby [in the womb] is innocent … We have to hang on to that,” said committee member Rep. Dodie Horton, R-Haughton, who voted against the bill. Rep. Lauren Ventrella, R-Greenwell Spring, also voted against the legislation, saying the proposed law would be difficult to enforce. Teenagers who had consensual sex might feign rape or incest in order to get access to abortion services, she suggested…
Dr. Neelima Sukhavasi, a Baton Rouge doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, also implored the lawmakers to approve Boyd’s proposal. She and her colleagues have delivered babies for pregnant teenagers, including mothers as young as 13, since Louisiana’s abortion ban went into effect two years ago. These young pregnant people can experience health complications that affect them for the rest of their lives, Sukhavasi said, and sometimes don’t have the mental capacity to handle the births. “One of these teenagers delivered a baby while clutching a teddy bear,” she told the committee.
The Committee also killed three other bills: HB 56, to allow abortions in cases of spontaneous miscarriage or nonviable pregnancy; HB 63, to clarify that the removal of an ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion under state law; HB 293, to add protection for physicians who do not intend to induce abortion by prescribing certain medications.

Texas

Meanwhile, in Texas—a state that pioneered the war on women and reproductive rights—a man initiated legal action to sue people who helped his former partner obtain an out-of-state abortion.
The man, Collin Davis, filed a petition in a state district court seeking permission to launch legal depositions to collect evidence for a potential lawsuit under a Texas law that contains civil liability for anyone who “aids and abets” an abortion. According to his lawyer, Jonathan Mitchell (who crafted the anti-abortion law), Davis is seeking to sue “co-conspirators and accomplices…involved in the murder of [his] unborn child.”
“Fathers of aborted fetuses can sue for wrongful death in states with abortion bans, even if the abortion occurs out-of-state,” he wrote. “They can sue anyone who paid for the abortion, anyone who aided or abetted the travel, and anyone involved in the manufacture or distribution of abortion drugs.”
Molly Duane, a senior staff attorney with the Center for Reproductive Rights, described Mitchell’s statement and general approach as misleading “fearmongering.”
“People need to understand that it is not a crime to leave Texas or any other state in the country for an abortion,” said Duane, who is working with lawyers from the firm Arnold & Porter to represent the woman and others targeted in the Davis case. “I don’t want people to be intimidated, but they should be outraged and alarmed.” Duane described the woman’s relationship with Davis as “toxic and harmful.”
Mitchell also represents a different man who pursued a similar claim last year: Marcus Silva engaged Mitchell to sue the friends of his estranged wife for allegedly helping her obtain abortion pills. Evidence later revealed that Silva knew about the plans beforehand and did not intervene, likely intending to use the threat of legal action as a way of forcing his partner to halt divorce proceedings.
Monday’s counterclaim illustrates, in painstaking detail, exactly how Silva—aided by Mitchell—allegedly deployed this tactic. It was only after Brittni’s abortion was complete that Silva revealed he knew about the plan and, according to the lawsuit, threatened to turn her in if she didn’t submit to his continued abuse. He even showed the police photographs of messages discussing the possibility of an abortion. “Once I finally got home with the girls he had been drinking and he told me that he knew,” Brittni texted one friend. “He’s using it against me.” In another message, she wrote, “Now he’s saying if I don’t give him my ‘mind body and soul’ until the end of the divorce, which he’s going to drag out, he’s going to make sure I go to jail for doing it.” […]
The counterclaim points out another flaw in his argument: Silva himself “is responsible for the alleged injury for which he seeks to recover.” He “knew that Brittni planned to terminate her alleged pregnancy and acquiesced in accepting Brittni’s actions,” so “it would be unconscionable to permit him to benefit by changing his position now.” His claims, in short, are barred “by unclean hands,” because he effectively entrapped his estranged wife—covertly discovering her plan to terminate the pregnancy, then allowing her to go through with it for the express purpose of blackmailing her into staying with him.

Indiana

A three-judge panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals last month unanimously recognized a religious freedom challenge to the state’s complete ban on abortion.
The case, brought by Hoosier Jews for Choice and four anonymous women of various faiths, alleges that the ban interferes with “their sincere religious beliefs that require and direct them to obtain abortions” criminalized since the law took effect in 2023. According to Jewish law, a fetus does not have personhood until birth, and abortion is required if the pregnancy endangers the life or health of the mother.
Brief of Hoosier Jews for Choice (and other plaintiffs): As indicated by the declarations of numerous rabbis, Judaism teaches that a fetus becomes a living person only at birth, and prior to that is considered part of the woman’s body, without independent rights. Abortion should occur and is mandated to end a pregnancy that may cause serious consequences to a woman’s mental or physical heath. Judaism also recognizes that physical health risks are not limited to those likely to cause substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function. Judaism stresses the necessity of protecting the physical and mental health of the woman—a life—over the potential for life present in a zygote, embryo, or fetus. Therefore, restrictions that prevent a woman from obtaining an abortion where compelled by Jewish law, which mandates that the woman act to protect her physical or mental health, impose a substantial burden on that person’s religious exercise.
Under Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), “a governmental entity may not substantially burden a personʹs exercise of religion,” defined to include “any exercise of religion, whether or not compelled by, or central to, a system of religious belief.” This means that arguments about whether plaintiffs are strictly observant are irrelevant; the law protects sincerely held religious views regardless of whether that view is idiosyncratic or unorthodox. However, even a law that imposes a substantial burden on the exercise of religion can be enforced if it is “the least restrictive means of furthering [a] compelling governmental interest” (the strict scrutiny test).
The state argued that abortion does not carry “religious significance” and, even if it did, the abortion ban satisfies strict scrutiny because it is “sufficiently narrowly tailored” to “further the State’s interest” in “protecting human lives in the womb.” Throughout Indiana’s brief, the state attempts to use science to back up fetal personhood, extending developmental physiology to make unfounded claims that protected life unquestionably begins at conception:
In lower courts, the State’s compelling interest is not up for debate. In Cheaney v. State, the Indiana Supreme Court held that the State’s interest in protecting unborn children is “valid and compelling” from “the moment of conception.” …A basic understanding of biology supports these holdings. “That human fetuses are human beings is a scientific fact, not a theological claim.” Regardless whether an individual person believes this, “the scientific consensus” is that “[d]evelopment begins at fertilization,” after which the newly created “unicellular zygote divides many times and becomes progressively transformed into a multicellular human being through cell division, migration, growth, and differentiation.” …. Science thus tells us that “[t]he act of performing an induced abortion during any stage of pregnancy, from fertilization up to birth, ends the life of an innocent human being.” The State’s interest in protecting unborn fetal life at any stage from intentional destruction accordingly is nothing less than “compelling.”
A panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals—made up of a Republican appointee and two Democratic appointees—unanimously ruled against the state, upholding a lower court’s injunction against the abortion ban as it applies to the plaintiffs. In the process, the court laid out a path for religious freedom challenges to abortion bans in other states and at the federal level.
The trial court found that absent a preliminary injunction, Plaintiffs would be irreparably harmed by the loss of their religious freedoms guaranteed by RFRA. A loss of First Amendment freedoms, which include the right to free exercise of religion, “for even minimal periods of time, unquestionably constitutes irreparable injury.”... Without a preliminary injunction, Plaintiffs will suffer the loss of their right to exercise their sincere religious beliefs by obtaining an abortion when directed by their religion and prohibited by the Abortion Law. They also have shown their sexual and reproductive lives will continue to be restricted absent the injunction and as a result of the Abortion Law.

2024.05.15 12:07 getfiio WSJ article about a crackdown looming for bigger investors

After reading the article, it looks like another misleading headline designed to generate buzz by the sales team at the WSJ.
But I still want to be cautious in my strategy and mitigate any risks.
Curious what do others think of the article?
The article needs a subscription, so I pasted the text below.
Wall Street went on a home-buying spree. Now, more lawmakers want to stop it from ever happening again.
Democrats in the U.S. Senate and House have sponsored legislation that would force large owners of single-family homes to sell houses to family buyers. A Republican’s bill in the Ohio state legislature aims to drive out institutional owners through heavy taxation.
Lawmakers in Nebraska, California, New York, Minnesota and North Carolina are among those proposing similar laws.
While homeowner associations for years have sought to stop investors from buying and renting out houses in their neighborhoods, the legislative proposals represent a new effort by elected officials to regulate Wall Street’s appetite for single-family homes.
These lawmakers say that investors that have scooped up hundreds of thousands of houses to rent out are contributing to the dearth of homes for sale and driving up home prices. They argue that investor buying has made it harder for first-time buyers to compete with Wall Street-backed investment firms and their all-cash offers.

Investors of all sizes spent billions of dollars buying homes during the pandemic. At the 2022 peak, they bought more than one in every four single-family homes sold, though more recently their activity has slowed as interest rates rose and supply became tighter. Two of the largest home-buying firms, Invitation Homes and AMH, are publicly traded companies, while a number of other companies, backed by private equity, hold portfolios of tens of thousands of homes nationwide.
Companies that buy single-family homes say their businesses provide renters the opportunity to live in desirable neighborhoods where they otherwise couldn’t afford to buy.
With home prices and rents near record highs around the U.S., legislators and officials at all levels of government have become more active on housing issues. States have passed new measures to fund more affordable housing, to allow builders to bypass local zoning laws and to make the eviction process more favorable to tenants.
Most calls to block large companies from snapping up homes come from liberals, but some conservatives also show an inclination to crack down.
This “corporate large-scale buying of residential homes seems to be distorting the market and making it harder for the average Texan to purchase a home,” Republican Gov. Greg Abbott wrote on X last month. “This must be added to the legislative agenda to protect Texas families.”
Close to equal numbers of voting-age Republicans and Democrats said they would support a measure to block Wall Street firms from buying homes, according to a new study funded by the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank. The study gauged opinion from 5,000 renters and homeowners in urban and suburban ZIP Codes.
Proposals to curb investors might be popular with voters, but so far they haven’t gained much traction in legislatures. None of the bills in Congress or in any of the state houses has reached a floor vote.
Advocates for the single-family rental industry, such as the National Rental Home Council, oppose such legislation and blame rising prices on an undersupply of new-construction homes. They also point to the relatively low number of homes owned by institutional investors, defined as those companies with portfolios of 1,000 homes or more. Some research estimates these companies own 3% to 5% of American rental homes.
In some American cities, institutional investors hold a much larger share of homes than they hold nationally. In Atlanta, nearly 11% of all rental homes in the five-county area are now owned by three real-estate companies, a recent study by researchers at Georgia State University found. A 2022 analysis by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said 21% of Atlanta rental homes were owned by some large institution.
Rep. Nikema Williams (D., Ga.), from the Atlanta area, in December co-sponsored the End Hedge Fund Control of American Homes Act in the U.S. House. The act “won’t solve all of the problems, but it will definitely make an impact,” she said in an interview.
Critics of regulation note that many of the largest investors have bought very few or no homes in the past year. “The great trade is done,” said John Burns, founder of the eponymous housing research and consulting firm. “So what are you trying to stop?”
Smaller investors that own between 10 and 99 homes have stepped up their share of home buying this year, Burns said. Some of the proposed legislation would also target these smaller investors.
The bills in the House and Senate would cap rental-home ownership at no more than 50 homes for many companies, requiring them to sell off any more they already own. A bill in Minnesota, meanwhile, would limit ownership to 20 homes.
Bills to block landlords in the Ohio and Nebraska state legislatures were written in response to a small number of investors buying up hundreds of homes in a handful of Cincinnati and Omaha neighborhoods.
Louis Blessing III, a Republican representing suburbs of Cincinnati in the Ohio Senate, introduced a bill to tax large landlords so heavily that they would likely feel compelled to sell their properties. Blessing said he is concerned about real-estate companies developing monopoly power in some neighborhoods, while putting starter homes further out of reach for home buyers.
“It’s an antitrust in spirit bill,” he said.

You see, just like women refused to smoke in public until they saw it as a form of liberation. Covid is our liberation. If things go to plan. We won't know for many years.
The public would never support the most powerful men working to reduce the numbers of the "lower class" until we saw OURSELVES as a deadly virus to the planet. That's been the goal from the get-go.
In the population control document that Rockefellers sponsored it suggests multiple methods of involuntary sterilization such as adding “fertility control agents” to water supplies, temporary sterilization of all young women “via time-capsule contraceptives,” and compulsory sterilization of men with three or more children.
Those are just ideas they floated, it's not like they ever funded or implemented them. It's not like they made an anti-fertility vaccine! They did.
Its not like they ever went thru with an actual involuntary roll out of this tho, we woulda heard about it!
You might have seen this 2014 story "debunked." In 2014, Kenyan doctors found traces of HCG in Tetanus vaccines being distributed by WHO/funded by Gates. Why is this important?
HCG is the same pregnancy hormone that is used in conjunction with Tetanus in that SAME ROCKEFELLER FOUNDATION FUNDED INDIAN INFERTILITY VACCINE. Doctors in the Philippines and Mexico also claimed to have found HCG in their WHO distributed Tetanus vaccines in the 90s (they did). It does appear as if the Rockefellers have implemented their "involuntary fertility control" and have used Tetanus vaccines as cover to test this pet project of theirs, but that's speculation.

Children of Men' (2006) Plot - In the year 2027, after 18 years of total human infertility, war and global depression have pushed society to the point of collapse as humanity faces extinction.
Did you know that "Children of Men" was written by Phyllis Dorothy James, referencing Pat Frank's "Mr. Adam" and "Alas, Babylon" written back in 1950s?
Given the quality of sperm declining due to fluoride, chemical exposure and such, and mRNA-medicine affecting fertility of men and women, that's the exact match.
Joel E Cohen, the Rockefeller University Professor on Population heavily acknowledged the significant drop in fertility rate of white populations in US and EU, explaining driven immigration to sustain the level and boost 'economic prosperity.' As the saying goes, Just as the Egyptians made G‑d’s firstborn (the Israelities) suffer, G‑d punished - measure for measure - the Egyptians’ firstborn. Is there any other way for me and my family to work in the UK without paying 6 grand?
Hi everyone, I want to build a family and furure in England with my girlfriend and my future kids and buy a home. Unfortunately though, it seems literally impossible to enter and work in the UK as an EU citizen, because they require £6k application fee visas, an employer that sponsors the visa and other crazy requirements. Is there any other way for me and my family to reach the UK without paying 6 grand per person? I heard that I could apply to the eu pre settled scheme, but on the Gov website, it is confusing af. I tried to search for a job online and employers are not very keen on sponsoring a visa, even though I offered myself to cover all the costs. Thank you for your help 💪🏽

2024.05.15 11:55 RayaAmadeus What counts as proof of relationship for a Standard Visitor Visa? (sponsored trip)

Hello!
I've seen many questions relating to this for getting a spouse/partner visa but not much in terms of a simple visitor visa. My partner is Indian and I am British. I am sponsoring his trip and so they want proof of our relationship - I am wondering what would count for this? I assume it doesn't need to be as detailed as for a spouse/partner visa? When we are in India, we live at his family home so don't have a joint tenancy agreement/utility bills etc. Someone told me photos don't count but have seen mention of them on this sub (but again in relation to spouse visa).
Also, at the biometrics appointment do they ask any questions etc or is it literally just giving your fingerprints, taking a photo etc?
Thanks in advance for your help.

2024.05.15 11:42 dirtyiana [IWantOut] 21f Egypt -> US/UK/CANADA

In all honesty I don't have a specific country in mind but the rules said to state some so I did. I just want a free place to live in that provides basic human rights. I'm not looking for high paying jobs either, I just want a liveable wage. I'm from a third world country.
I'm currently studying medicine and have about 5 years until I'm done. I'm not doing too good though because it's very draining and my university is very strict and unfair. Add to that I have personal problems and living here is already depressing enough. I thought about getting another degree instead but I don't want to be stuck with a useless degree that won't help me get out of the country so I think the smartest thing for now is to get the degree just incase.
Besides my native language, I speak English and French, my french is at a B1/B2 level and I'm planning on improving it more and taking DELF.
Based on what I've seen I don't think that's enough and I need actual skills/experience if I want to get a job sponsor from any country, that is if I don't take the medical route. As for the medical route, I thought about taking USMLE during/after I'm done, but it's too expensive and not a sure way to get matched especially as an IMG. I'm willing to pay for it though if the chances are high enough.
So I need some guidance, most of the skilled labor work appears to be physically demanding, which I don't mind but I don't know if I'll even get accepted as a female. I have no experience and I can't get any in my country because they will turn me down. What skills can I start learning from now that are in demand or possible for me to get into. Open to anything.

2024.05.15 11:38 litenduva How do we find the gift of desperation? Do I have to wait until rock bottom?

I've been in the rooms since January 2021 when I ended up in a hospital emergency room with bad withdrawal symptoms.
After that point, I've had some prolonged stints of sobriety - longest was 6 months. I have a sponsor, I have a home group with a service obligation, I did the 90 in 90 and I go to 2-3 meetings per week.
The sad thing is, I'm still drinking. No one knows. I feel awful. I'm still filling my service obligations, sober at meetings, holding down a job. But privately I'm breaking apart.
I know that part of the program is that we don't have to make our own mistakes, others have made them for us. But I also know from experience that spiritual willingness and surrender to Step 1 is key, and if I'm really honest with myself, I just don't have that right now.
I'm also 31 which is not super young for the program, but most people I know came in in Their 40s.
Since I don't have the genuine desire right now - do I try to keep working the program? Or do I wait for the rock bottom? I'm so stuck, and feel like such a fraud - half in, half out. Any thoughts welcome. I'm feeling very lost.

2024.05.15 11:26 Agile-Caterpillar421 [Socialists] Can you name a single successful socialist experiment? In my opinion you can't.

Hello. My name is Agile-Caterpillar. I am an experienced and award-winning pro-capitalist influencer(PM for promos and sponsorships). You may remember me from my highly praised submissions such as "My pecker smells - Lack of household appliances and food refrigeration in the USSR during the 7 year plan", "Under capitalism you get a Playstation 5 and under socialism a Starvation 5" and "Hehe - The long awaited collapse of the USSR".
Today I want to talk about why I believe there has not been a single successful socialist experiment in the history of mankind.
Before I proceed I would like to take a break and talk about our new Sponsor, Lockheed Martin. These guys are just amazing. They are using the latest cutting edge technology and advances in aeronautical engineering to help level the playing field in underserved regions to enable the local population to enjoy unlimited accesss to democracy and economic freedom. Visit their website lockheedmartin.com now to view the latest product line and pre-order the products of your choice.
Now let's talk about the repeated failures of socialist experiments. As mentioned above I don't believe a single socialist experiment was successful.
Here is why:
The large longer lasting socialist experiments like the USSR did eventually fail or are close to failure(Cuba). Not only did they fail but they also were authoritarian states controlled by a small number of powerful individuals. The workers didn't own anything. Workers in the USSR or China had less rights than workers in capitalist nations. This is not socialism.
China is sometimes mentioned but they have zero worker rights and are running a capitalist economy. Not socialism.
Rojava is a capitalist society with private enterprise.
The nordic countries are capitalist.
Zapatistas are governing a failed state. Drug cartels took over and the population is subjected to daily harassment by armed gangs and crime ranging from threats and racketeering to kidnapping, land theft, forced displacement and forced recruitment.
Temporary wartime post revolution experiments are not enough to show that socialism can create a lasting and stable society.
Experience in the past 100 years has shown that socialism has failed to create a stable lasting society that liberates workers to a meaningful extent and provides living conditions equal or superior to capitalism.
I don't think any counter examples to this exist.

2024.05.15 11:01 Hot_Objective6444 Would it be worth it ?

Would it be worth it ?
Have got as far as I can in the special sponsor section, with no more objectives really within my reach.
My question is, would it be worth spending the 50 tokens to get the youth prospect at level 20 ? Obviously with recouping 12 at level 19 this would only really cost 38 tokens.
Current academy has 2 prospects I’ve been working on, and a 4 star prospect I’ve not touched, almost being the runt of the bunch. So would be happy to release him if you guys thought it might be worth investing the tokens.

2024.05.15 10:50 Cold_Description_441 Looking for Outside Perspective. Please Share your advice.

Hey guys, this is a throwaway account. So I'm 25, about to be 26, and I have been working for around 3.5 years now.
Now, I have an offer to study MBA in Canada from one of the Top 7 Unis there, with a 20% scholarship. The total cost minus the scholarship along with food and lodging for 2 years will come to around 50-55l, which my family has agreed to sponsor. I would still need to draw around 5-7l from my personal savings as a safe bet.
The other option is that I stay back and appear for CAT this year. In this scenario, I would be making a safer bet, and with consistent effort, I might convert a Tier 2 B school at the very least.
Staying back is safer because I have personal savings of about 15-17l from my work, and I could keep them invested in stocks and mutual funds. Also, if I continue working, I might add another 5-6L to that total, making it a good emergency nest.
While I want to go abroad and explore my capabilities, I don't have huge risk tolerance, which is constantly pushing me to stay behind.
Only drawback of staying behind might be my age, which would be a 2-3 years over the average batch age, and might pose difficulty in placements.
If anyone has been in my situation, or has any insight to offer, kindly let me know. I need a neutral, unbiased view on this situation. Thanks in advance.

2024.05.15 10:37 M1lk_4_Kh0rn3 New sub-faction ideas for Kane Wrath #7 Japan-Korea Defense Initiative (GDI)

New sub-faction ideas for Kane Wrath #7 Japan-Korea Defense Initiative (GDI)
"Greeting Brothers and Sisters, today we bring you grave news. The sun we though had set long ago had risen again. Those remained from wars of fifty years ago revived from their tombs, readied to served their GDI masters once more. Our brother in China once underestimated them, now they are trampled under their feet. I fear we will faced them soon."
Brother Duc, a Confessor in Ho Chi Minh city.
Konnichiwa, Annyeong hasimnikka and hello guys and girls. I'm back with the third trilogy of homebrew sub-factions. This time, we'll take a look to the far east, where the Empire of Rising Sun used to be, at least in Red Alert 3 timeline. In the lands of Korean Peninsula and Japan Island, a branch of GDI, the Japan-Korea Defense Initiative (J-KDI) is in charge. This concept based on the Empire of Rising Sun from RA3 with many touches to fit in the scenario of the Tiberium Universe. As this region unique geography, society, economical and technological advances, the sub-faction leaned more toward urban warfare, drone combat and the fragile but versatile mech walker.
As you already know, the Steel Talon also favor walkers but their mech are crude, rugged and focus on late-game punch, J-KDI mechs are more futuristic, high-tech, highly versatile, which is an odd for GDI doctrine, but when taking their operating region into account, the feat seem not very complicated, as Japan and Korea are the least suffered from the first two Tiberium Wars and designated as Blue Zones (Yes, even North Korea is a Blue Zone, maybe Kane get scared, who know?). So, without any further ado, let dive in.
Disclaimer: As always, The image I used in the Post below is from various source on the internet such as CnC wiki and Deviantart to give reader a better look at my idea. If you you felt uncomfortable with this, please let me know in the comment below and I'll remove them
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
J-KDI insignia
Lore
Originally created by the United Nations as a branch of GDI in charge of Japan and Korean region and after decades maintaining security and prosperity with advancing in technologies, J-KDI is one of the most renowned division within GDI. They often active in Japan Main Islands and Korean Peninsula, which saw little Tiberium infestation and stable politic and economic environments. During the chaotic time before the Second Tiberium War, the three governments met with GDI presentative and strike a deal: The three countries will accept GDI officials, tactics, policies and complied to mobilization orders in exchange for maintaining their own decree of independent, including the right to command and develop their own army with access to some GDI technologies. This deal has led to the birth a semi-independent regional forces within GDI, known as Japan-Korea Defense Initiative (J-KDI).
One of J-KDI unique characteristic is due to they mostly operate in large city, thus their arsenal is modified to suit urban combats. With their freedom in R&D and a huge sum of budget to do so, their units seem more futuristic and sometime unrealistic compare to normal GDI war machines. Most noticeable is they managed to recovered old prototypes from older projects, upgraded and let them enter services once again. With North Korea also in the mix, J-KDI also employed well trained armed military polices and tactical nuclear ballistic weapons. On the other side, J-KDI saw limited use of aircraft and cannot access to Ion Cannons due to GDI constrictions, however, they soon found out other "solutions" to fulfill their role.
In recent years, J-KDI had found a new talent, Dr. Liang, brother of Jade Liang, a NOD notorious commander. Dr. Liang worked side by side with his sister Jade in the GDI research labs until they were both accidentally exposed to raw Tiberium. Liang chose to amputate his arm rather than succumb to mutation. He now dedicates himself to finding ways to heal wounds of all kinds with most of his research into pilotless vehicles. And Dr. Liang, who in need of a sponsor met with J-KDI, who scouting for talents in robotics and drone vehicles, thus Dr. Liang was recruited as chief scientist and a battle commander for J-KDI. His contributed in drones and AI developments helped J-KDI advanced further to their vision of a futuristic army, until the end of Third Tiberium War, that is ...
Building
  • Can not build Airfield.
  • Can not build Combat Support Airfield.
  • Call for Transport available after a Command Post is built
Defense
  • Missile Silo replaces Ion Cannon: Sponsored by United Republic of Korea, these things make NOD green with envy. It can launch a tactical nuclear strike delivered by an ICBM with 5 tactical nuclear MIRV warheads at the target location anywhere on the map. If this is not enough, J-KDI commanders can purchase additional warheads at the Silo. Each warheads cost 1500$ and each ICBM can carry 10 warheads at most.
The Missile Silo ready to deliver it payloads
Infantry
  • Riot Squad replaces Riflemen Squad: Basic infantry/policeman armed with mini assault rifles, riot shield and flash bang. They are studier but slower than their counterpart and trained to clear garrisoned building. On the flip side, they can throw flash bang at enemies infantry, which stunned for a while.
  • Dragonfly Drone: Flying scout drones armed with EMP Immobilizer, which can disable ground vehicle. It can ordered to charge and self-destruct in an EMP explosion, hopefully damaging anything around it. Require Command Post.
  • Service Drone: Flying support drone with timed life that can repair or heal adjacent allies units. Can only summoned through Instant Service support power.
The Riot Squad (from Crossfire Legion), the Dragonfly Drone and the Service Drone
Vehicle
  • Cannot build Rig and Mammoth Tank.
  • Assault APC: Troop transport vehicle armed with weapon jammer and fire ports. Weapon Jammer can render enemies weapons to useless, even infantry weapons. Can upgraded to deploy smoke screen to support friendly units.
  • Robo Tengu replaces Guardian APC: Anti-infantry hover walker, first designed for security, then converted for military use. It can upgrade to transform into the Jet Tengu, a VTOL air superiority fighter. Can detect stealth.
  • Striker-VX: Anti-air walker that can spew out surface-to-air missiles into air. It can upgraded to transform into the Chopper-VX, to combat incoming ground targets with air-to-surface missiles. Require Command Post.
  • Megalodon: Powerful assault walker designed for melee combat with plasma blade, excellence durability and quite fast (for a heavy tank). It also immune to hijacking, mind control and only slowed down by EMP effects. Commandos, however, can plant charges on it legs to bring it down. It leaves behind a husk when destroyed, which can be captured or destroyed. Require Tech Center.
The Assault APC (From Generals 2), the Tengu, VX (both from Red Alert 3) and the mighty Megalodon (from Reign of Steel mod)
Aircraft
  • Cannot build any "traditional" aircraft.
Upgrade
  • Cannot purchase Sensor Pods, Hardpoints, Stratofighter and Railgun Upgrade.
  • AP Ammo upgrade benefit Riot Squad and Tengu
  • Transform Modules: Allow Robo Tengu to transform into the Jet Tengu and Striker-VX transform to Chopper-VX. Purchase at War Factory.
  • Smoke Launcher: Allow Assault APC and Predator Tank launch smoke grenades at targeted area, creating a smokescreen that lasts for 6 seconds and greatly reduce sight range and attack range of units caught within. It can also force garrisoned infantry out of buildings. Purchase at Command Post.
  • Expanded Missile Pods: Expands the Missile Pods for Pitbull and Striker-VX, allowing more missiles per salvo. Purchase at Tech Center.
  • Hydrogen Fuel Cells: Increase Robo Tengu, Striker-VX and Megalodon speed by 33%. Megalodon also gain immunity from EMP effect. Purchase at Tech Center.
Support Power
  • Cannot use Orca Strike and Bloodhounds.
  • GDI Airborne summon two Riot Squads and two Missile Squads instead of two Rifle Squads and two Missile Squads.
  • Drone Strike: Call in kamikaze drone which crashes itself onto targeted area, explode and causing high damage. Summon 3 drones initially but every GDI War Factory present on the battlefield will release an additional Hunter-Seeker drone upon activation. Require Command Post.
  • Instant Service: Call in a flock of 3 Service Drones with timed life anywhere on the map that can heal and repair adjacent allies units. Require War Factory.
Notable Events
  1. Clear House. Location: Kobe, Japan. After the Firestorm Crisis, Empire of Japan and the United Republic of Korea, designated as Blue Zones B-6 and B-7, entered a decade of rapid development thanks to geography locations, efficient governments and technological advances. But shadows of previous conflicts still remained and now, they stir once again. Dr. Liang, a newly appointed chief scientist of J-KDI, accompanied by Battle Commander Sato in a riot control mission in Kobe. The investigators discovered that riots incited by the local Yakuza and backed by NOD. A MCV with escort arrived and quelled the riots by destroyed all hidden NOD infrastructures around the city. At one of the base, J-KDI found documents about a large operation in nearby Osaka Port.
  2. Hand of Darkness. Location: Osaka, Japan. From the documents J-KDI discovered NOD had secretly taken control of Osaka Port operations through several Yakuza shell companies. There, they established a base, hidden by Disruption Towers to wait for a "special shipment" arrive. J-KDI sent a Commando task force to intercept the cargo. As the Commando arrived, he cut through NOD patrols and secured the cargo ship. With the cargo carried away by a V-35 Ox, J-KDI sent in their MCV to build a base and proceed to eliminate NOD presence in the port.
  3. Hidden Vipers. Location: Ningbo, China. The cargo contained parts of a liquid Tiberium base explosive device and from NOD captives and documents, they intended stage a "test" in Tokyo area. This information raised concern for both J-KDI and GDI alike as such attack will cause massive casualties. Doctor Liang traced back the device is manufactured in Ningbo, China and had signatures of his sister, Jade Liang, now a defector. GDI Council authorized a joined assault on China Yellow Zone and put a stop to these devices production. After a bombardment, Steel Talon vanguards landed at the port while J-KDI mech wings escort Hovercraft upstream Yong Jiang river to strike at the rear. However, the city is defended by Emerald Vipers, a NOD faction specialized in toxic and liquid-T weapon. The Vipers led by Jade resisted fiercely to defend their facilities but crushed eventually. Jade escaped with only a handful of troops and GDI claimed their victory.
  4. Incoming Storm. Location: Tumangang, North Korea. Several years passed since NOD Incursion and GDI slowly diminished their military forces. But J-KDI still maintained their semi-independent status and continued to developed new weapons. Recently, there words of a huge NOD armored column pushed down from Siberia toward the Korean Peninsula. Commander Sato had been mobilized to Tumangang in the Russia-North Korea border to intercept NOD advance. He arrived and begin fortified river crossing just before NOD first wave arrived. After the first wave intercepted, second wave arrived and set up shops at the opposite river bank. From there, NOD aircraft and infantry can support the third and fourth wave directly, giving Sato a hard time, however, no vehicle crossed the river. Just before the last wave, Sato receive information about the attacks on GDSS Philadelphia and Japan. He quickly finished the last wave and returned to Japan.
  5. Day at the bay. Location: Yokohama, Japan. NOD attacked a GDI Council's installations in Yokohama and J-KDI called in as reinforcement to take back Ion Cannon Control Centers there. However, there early reports that another GDI force already there. Feeling something amiss, Commander Sato send a Commando and a Sniper Team to investigate the situation. Turned out, a GDI Insurgent, the Dark Eyes Insurgency (D.E.I) had taken control of the Ion Control Centers there and in process of stealing an Ion Cannon for there usage. After a brief skirmish, Sato cannot stop the D.E.I from finished taking control an Ion Cannon. At this point, the D.E.I commander propose a deal with Sato, as they willingly to help him take back the vital port of Yokohama in exchange for a blind eye, as GDI Council not giving J-KDI access to Ion Cannon Network either. Having no better choice, Sato agreed and the combined GDI wiped out remaining NOD foothold in Yokohama. Before leaving, the D.E.I generously provide Sato a shocking new: Dr. Liang life is under threat by his little sister, as she going to attack at San Diego Conference, where Dr. Liang and many GDI top scientist currently in.
  6. Santa Coming, Too. Location: San Diego, California. Dr. Liang and San Diego base had been warned about the coming of NOD forces. However, the defense of the base fall in local GDI hands, as Dr. Liang forces are only a handful of guards and mechs. As the Vipers approached, they were caught surprised by J-KDI transform mechs and Vipers aircraft soon removed out the sky as their home Air Tower destroyed. This angered Jade and she soon send in more troops to the meat grinder. In the moment the base about to fall, an APCOM reinforcement wing arrived and bombed NOD forces to oblivion. Jade herself forced to abandoned the battle, leaving behind many Vipers casualties behind.
  7. Relics of the Past. Location: Point Hope, Alaska. Having stabilized the Blue Zones, GDI High Command planned for a retaliation strike at NOD. J-KDI Command didn't sit still either, as they're dangerously close to the China Yellow Zone. However, to J-KDI also lack the capability to strike deep into China mainland where NOD headquarter is. Dr. Liang proposed a bold idea: by using an old experimental device Allied forces used during the Third World War, they can teleport a limited number of vehicle directly at NOD headquarter and destroy NOD from inside out. However, this device currently mothballed in a abandoned base in Alaska, with rumors of NOD activities in the region. As the plan when through by GDI High Command, Dr. Liang and Sato lead and expedition to dig out the old Chronosphere and charged it to full. While Dr. Liang busy restore and recharge the Chronosphere, Commander Sato take charge of a naval battle with two NOD Battleships and their escort.

After clear out a NOD outpost, a MCV with some mech teleported and begin set up shops at the west bank of the river. Local Black Hand alerted of J-KDI presence and sent a Purifier with a few Scorpions to intercept GDI but soon torn to shed by mech reinforcement. This, however, do not deter the Black Hand and NOD from sending in more troop and vehicles at the J-KDI base, stalling J-KDI advance for a time. After a few round of reinforcements, Dr. Liang inform commander Sato that the Chronosphere will reach it limit soon, but a ZOCOM commander volunteer to arrived at a last batch reinforcement. A ZOCOM MCV with some vehicle and two MARVs soon teleported in was the last reinforcement, but they are more than enough. Together with ZOCOM, J-KDI pushed forward and even destroyed a Black Hand Redeemer, forcing them to retreat. The main NOD base soon followed suit and fall to the combined might of the two MARVs. With their Command Headquarter destroyed, NOD forces in China soon fall to disarray. This mission is a total victory.

Peace finally there, but it is short lived, as the Earth under attack by an unknown Aliens. There crafts landed across the globe and their forces strike in every Blue and Yellow Zones. A Drone Platform had landed in Incheon and Commander Sato sent to deal with it. A strike team arrived from sea and encountered heavy Alien patrols. Battleship called for bombards to clear a landing zone for an J-KDI outpost. The alien deployed their Rift Generator, intend using it to wipe out any humans resistant. In face such mass destruction weapons, J-KDI authorized the use of Tactical Nukes and a Silo is deployed. With the help of a EMP Control Center, J-KDI disrupt the Rift Generator long enough for their forces to destroyed the Rift Generator and nuked the Drone Platform along with any remained Aliens to oblivion.
  10. Under the Sacred Mountain. Location: Mt. Fuji, Japan. When Commander Sato busy dealing with the aliens in Hiroshima, Dr. Liang received distress signals from a GDI facility in Mt. Fuji. Apparently, his little sister, Jade attacked the facility to eliminate a high ranking NOD defector sheltered there. But the Aliens arrival foiled her plan and now she caught in the crossfire between GDI and Aliens. This opportunity cannot be missed but J-KDI had given order to prioritized the defector safety first, thus Dr. Liang led reinforcements to Mt. Fuji. He arrived from the north to the final GDI base there while Jade three base besieging them. As for the Aliens, there coming from the South, keep hammering Jade from behind. J-KDI first recaptured the Power Plant to reactivate the remain defend system, which temporally push Jade forces back. Afterward, they begin to hammer Jade bases while she fend off the Aliens. Cannot withstand any further, Jade flee again, abandoned remaining forces to their fate. The Aliens also dealt with afterward and the defector escorted to safety.
  11. Shipwright. Location: Naval Base White Beach, Okinawa. A ZOCOM aircraft carrier task force arrived in Okinawa for emergency repair and refuel. The carrier carried with it a special cargo and under attack by the Reaper-17 pursuers. J-KDI sent Commander Sato to unsured the cargo safety. When be Carrier under repaired, all sirens sounded as Alien Storm Riders approached, but all shot down. Soon, more Aliens ground forces arrived along the north beach while more Storm Riders flied in from the sea. J-KDI and ZOCOM hold off the Aliens long enough for the Carrier Task force to repair and refuel, then escort the task force to high sea, after destroyed the Alien foothold in the region, of course.
  12. Race of Arms. Location: Threshold 14, Guangdong, China. The cargo had reached safety in the high sea while the Aliens pursuer retreated. GDI High Command, alerted of Alien's Towers in the Red Zone, planned to destroyed them before they finished constructing. J-KDI had been assigned to bring down the Tower in China Red Zone, code name Threshold 14. When the vanguard arrived, they found themself not only facing Alien but also NODs. Under pressure from both side, J-KDI hold on to their footholds while withering down Alien and NOD forces. Soon, Dr. Liang informed that a special Chrono delivery is coming. Commander Sato send the signal for three warheads to teleported near the Phase Generators and denotate them, reduced a huge chunk of Alien base to dust. With the Phase Generators outed, the Tower is now vulnerable and a nuclear strike later, it blew to smithereens.
  13. Of Brother and Sister. Location: Giraud-Moebius Tiberium Crater. Five years after the Third Tiberium War, GDI now stand victorious and the Brotherhood back to it shadows once more, J-KDI busying rebuild their city and society when Dr. Liang receive a shocking news, his sister, Jade Liang had betrayed Kane and now withdrawn to her final stronghold deep within Central Asia Red Zone. Dr. Liang asked for permission to finish business with his sister and authorized by GDI High Command. As Jade stronghold is hard to breached, J-KDI use a more bold approach, drop a MCV dropped from orbit inside her compound and destroy it from within. As J-KDI about to attack, the Marked of Kane already begun their assault. This created distraction needed for the MCV to make land fall and how can Dr. Liang refuse such a chance. A MCV task force dropped behind Jade lines and start to set up shops while Jade busy fighting cyborgs. Only when she realized her defend line pincered by both mechs and cyborgs then it is already too late. Not willing give up, Jade activated four Cloning Vats, devices left behind from Soviet-era that can clones every infantry Jade forces have trained. Fortunately, the Kenan Corp reinforcements arrived and together, the three forces pushed toward Jade headquarter. Jade in her madness, denotate a Liquid-T Bomb, intended to take the attacker down but ultimately failed and captured by J-KDI troops. After a brief conversation, Dr. Liang bid farewell to his sister and handed her to a cyborg, then a gunshot rang ....

2024.05.15 10:33 RealisticScholar8157 Digispec Work-learn at NTU

Have a few questions about 4 years digispec work learn scheme and hope that seniors would be able to answer some of them or share their experience. Would appreciate any advice or comments about this too, as I need to choose unis soon.
  1. When would they give you an offe when did you get your offer? As I have to choose unis soon, not sure if they will offer before the deadline?
  2. Does it disrupt your studies alot? Heard it's better than Cyberspec because this one is sem in sem out.
  3. Each time you work, are you posted to new unit to do different things, or stuck doing same thing all the time?
  4. Are there any downsides to this scheme? Seems like too good to be true, give you regular pay, then sponsor your studies, and still finish your uni at the same time as your peers. Only con I can think of is you must choose NTU instead of NUS. And must pass ippt?
TIA
