Looking to get into Lure fishing? We've got you covered!
2024.05.15 23:17 InexperiencedAngler Looking to get into Lure fishing? We've got you covered!
| Getting into a hobby is scary, and not always cheap. People throw information at you and it becomes overwhelming. I'll try and keep this as straightforward as possible. Though like all hobbies people have their preferences when it comes to brands/models, and will 100% have a differing opinion on what I've put below. I'll try to keep the cost down, and you also may decide you prefer to go one way or another and save money else where. Target Audience:- First and foremost, this post is aimed at people who want to just dip their toe into the lure fishing world, who want to keep it light, and want to catch a range of species and do not really care about catching a 30lb+ Pike. Rod :- Type If just starting out stick with a spinning rod, particularly if you've never even touched a bait caster before. You want to focus on the lure fishing experience, rather than driving an hour to bomb a lure out with a bait caster to have the worst birds nest/backlash ever and have to call it a day! Length Rods obviously can be very cheap to incredibly expensive. You obviously get what you pay for. However I will always recommend a rod around 6ft-6ft 5 range. This will cover you for canals, small brooks, rivers of almost all sizes. However may leave you wanting a bit more if fishing large lakes/reservoirs from the banks. Casting weight This is the weight of the lure that the rod is capable of throwing at maximum efficiency. You can go a bit outside of this range but expect to lose accuracy, casting distance etc. A rod that can cast 1-10g is a good range. 3-18g spinning rods will allow for more variety if you want to try some bigger lures for Pike. Though I'm sure plenty of people here will be able to say how they've caught double figure pike on small 7cm softbait lures. Action vs Power This topic gets confused a lot. People will interchangeably use the terms or just may not understand it at all. Action refers to where on the rod the rod starts to bend when pressure is applied. For light lures/jig heads, you typically want an Extra Fast - Fast action rod. Which is what I'll be recommending for someone starting out. These type of rods are usually more sensitive. See image below. Power is usually involved when discussing the rod's capability to cast heavier lures. Heavy rods throw heavy lures essentially. In terms of power I'd recommend a light or a medium-light rod. Good video explanation with a good visual aid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYwG3y8_jSc https://preview.redd.it/dgu0egt8gn0d1.png?width=192&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3173ee40c82aaf806429ece806ad4bf2175b518 Rod Suggestions: Obviously feel free to buy from your local fishing store if you would prefer, these are just examples of what I've suggested above. There may be cheaper rods elsewhere! But again look for something in the 1g-10g bracket, maybe extending to 3g-18g range if you want to try bigger lures if you have more budget. https://www.anglingdirect.co.uk/fox-rage-warrior-ultra-light-fishing-rods?queryID=961dfd673751e9142b56422f11d161ac&objectID=92906&indexName=live_ad_uk_products https://www.anglingdirect.co.uk/okuma-psycho-perch-ufr-spin-rod?queryID=7e20f50fe4574a48b2df981c5af8ce25&objectID=108271&indexName=live_ad_uk_products Reel Reels there is not much to say about them, specially for a beginner, go as light as you can. A reel size of a 1000 to 2500 will be absolutely fine. If you find yourself at a lake then maybe go on the upper end of the reel size, but you won't need to go above 2500 at all. This Daiwa reel is currently on sale and seems to have good reviews: https://www.anglingdirect.co.uk/daiwa-18-ninja-lt-reel?queryID=b1b21ac2b2c49e8f5e3936848924f29d&objectID=73497&indexName=live_ad_uk_products Line: Main Line Braid vs Mono vs Fluorocarbon. All I will say is there is a reason why the best anglers have all moved to braid. It simply offers more sensitivity than its counterparts. I would recommend going for something like Sufix/Daiwa J Braid/Berkley Sick braid. I would actually recommend not going too cheap here, and will recommend the X8 versions over the lesser X4 versions. Thom Hunt does a good video on Braid and all the numbers on the packaging, but ultimately why would you skimp on the thing that tells you when you have a bite. Thom Hunt's video on Braid tldr get braid, get X8 (or 8 strand) and just focus on the breaking strain. Around 12lb will do as a main line. Line: Leaders This is a hot topic and often controversial. Typically people say "use wire trace if there is pike in the area". I don't know about you guys, but no one can guarantee there is no pike as far as I am aware. Unless maybe fishing a commercial. From what I've experienced watching YouTube, the general consensus seems to be is: if using treble hooks use a wire trace. Single hooks that have had their barbs crushed should in theory be easy for any fish to throw the hook if for whatever reason you get bitten off. I'll let you decide what you should use where and when. I personally crush all the barbs on my hooks, I think fishing with barbs is overkill. Get an 8lb fluorocarbon line for a leader, make it about 2ft in length or so, I'd recommend using an FG knot to tie it to your braid. If using a wire trace, I'd recommend AFW wire. You can buy it on amazon/predator tackle. You can tie the wire trace directly to your braid or onto your fluoro leader if you wish. My setup is typically: Braid with an FG knot to a fluoro leader, then I'll use an improved clinch knot to either tie to my hook or I'll use an improved clinch knot to then tie to the wire trace that has loop knot in the end. I really avoid using swivels where I can, they can impact the movement of the lure, particularly something like a jerkbait. Tackle Tackle: Buy some standard jig heads, 2-5g with varying hook sizes. Buy some EWG hooks with some cheb weights, this will allow you to fish weedless. You will probably want 2/0 at a maximum, 3/0 or 4/0 can be used but might be a bit too big/heavy gauge wire. Lures: TO BE UPDATED Additional Tools You will want 12inch forceps, pliers, good pair of hook cutters - test them before you get on the bank! You don't want to be stuck on the bank with pike at your side with hooks stuck between its gill rakers. Landing net, if fishing rivers you will want one that can extend to a couple of meters. Unhooking mat/weigh sling, you can buy these as a combo, Korum Snapper do a good one. Scales if you want to weigh your catch but not necessary. Rod license, Fishing Club membership depending on your waters. Canal and River Trust have a Wanderers Waterways permit which you must have depending on where your fishing - this is only needed if no angling club is renting the stretch of water you are fishing. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/things-to-do/fishing/where-to-fish/waterway-wanderers-scheme Watch some videos on how to handle Pike, this will be invaluable. I am still finishing this post of, it got to late last night and I don't trust the save draft feature. submitted by InexperiencedAngler to LureUKFishing [link] [comments] |
2024.05.15 18:07 ctbjdm Resmed Airsense 10 DIY Humidifier tank expansion
(did this years ago, found Reddit and sharing here now)
I've run out of water in my Resmed Airsense 10 occasionally. I wanted to expand the tank capacity and make it easier to fill.
I did some research and found a thread on the apneaboard forum that someone came up with a DIY solution for this -- full credit to RonKMiller there for the idea and full description of how to do it.
RonKMiller's instructions are here:
http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread ... #pid150798 and spot on / easy to follow. Only difference is you need (4) Watts quick connect 1/4" x 1/8" PL-3004; 2 for the Rubbermaid container and 2 for the stock humidifer container (not sure why he said you only needed 2). Obviously this requires some level of DIY capability and some basic tools but it really was pretty easy (though I am very into tools/construction/etc).
I wanted to share this here for awareness; I did this myself with a modification, using a Rubbermaid Brilliance container rather than RonKMIller's Nalgene container -
http://www.rubbermaid.com/en-US/brillia ... containers. I actually tried the Nalgene container at first but found it made 'crinkling' noises as it was used, and it's a tight fit with that top and the two fittings. I also find the Rubbermaid container easier to open and close to fill since the fittings are on the side vs on the top. I've been using it for
2-3 weeks, years now and it works great - the Rubbermaid container is definitely airtight and it has 2 latches to secure it down as well as a rubber gasket. I fill the Rubbermaid container each night, and that drains into the stock humidifer reservoir (so I never pull that out).
Here's a picture of my solution with the cover off. Note that my implementation isn't perfect. Ideally the height of the input line from the Rubbermaid container is as low as possible, but higher than the stock Resmed humidifier container to ensure it drains down via gravity. Mine works, but could be better - I placed the Rubbermaid on a piece of scrap wood for now and would probably re-engineer this / plan it a little better (perhaps a small stand to put the Rubbermaid container on).
You also have to be aware of the max fill of your Rubbermaid container to make sure you don't overflow the CPAP machine itself.
You will sacrifice your existing Airsense humidifer tank if you do this (by drilling holes/installing fittings) so I would recommend having a spare. But this worked for me first time with no issues.
Happy to answer any questions based on my experience, but again full thanks to RonKMiller for coming up with this.

The Banished are a mercenary group that was previously part of the Covenant but broke away due to disagreements with the Covenant leadership. You’re eventually rescued by the Pilot, a survivor of the attack, who reluctantly assists the Master Chief in his mission to take down Atriox and the Banished. After destroying the warship, Chief is picked up by the Pilot, and they head down to Zeta Halo to search for a “weapon” in the mysteriously damaged portion of the ring. With these two introductory missions out of the way, you’re introduced to Halo Infinite’s vibrant yet dangerous open world. Across the 16-story missions, you will find yourself going across Zeta Halo and into the depths of the Forerunner installation. The campaign features wide and sprawling open fields, claustrophobic underground facilities, and everything in between. The pacing of missions in Infinite is well done and isn’t too fast or slow. Missions are not too long, and you can expect to spend about 11 and a half hours on Zeta Halo when focusing on the main objectives, making it the longest campaign to date, according to HowLongToBeat. When looking to see everything the game has to offer, it’s estimated to take around 27 and a half hours to finish. Knowing the lore behind the factions only adds to how enjoyable it is to fight against each enemy. For example, Brutes are always looking to fight opponents of noteworthy strength, so they approach battles with the Master Chief with bravado and are often happy to battle with the Spartans. Jackals, on the other hand, are typically pirates and mercenaries and will remark about claiming the bounty on Master Chief during combat. They go as far as commenting on canon events during combat, which is a first for the series. For example, Grunts will sometimes taunt you with a remark about the events of Halo: Reach by saying, “Hey Spartan, Reach called! Just kidding - ha!” Sometimes, Grunts dab after killing you, making them even more hilarious to fight. The colorful personalities that make up the Banished mercenaries make them feel more alive and like real characters you’re battling against. Previous Halo games had less personality-oriented enemies whose combat chatter became repetitive and didn’t make for a marginally more interesting battle. GAMEPLAY - 95/100 WEAPONS Since Halo: Combat Evolved, a damage system consisting of Kinetic and Plasma has been in place. Hardlight didn’t make a place for itself until Halo 4 and Shock Damage had its inception in Halo Infinite. Most human-made weapons deal Kinetic damage, which is effective at taking down unshielded enemies like Grunts, while Plasma works best against shields. Hardlight is good against any enemy regardless of their shield status, but the weapons and ammo are few and far between. Shock damage arcs between targets and is great for groups of Banished and their vehicles. As the newest addition to the weapon ecosystem, it makes a powerful statement when used in the midst of battle. Much like previous Halo installments, having only two weapon slots forces you into giving encounters some forethought since you’ll want to be properly prepared for the skirmish. It also makes you have to sacrifice certain weapons and pick up others to gain the upper hand in a fight, especially when facing a boss. Ammo resupplies aren’t new to Halo, but the ability to refill certain ammo like rockets without picking up a duplicate of the weapon is new to the series. As a first for the series, the open-world design makes the open-battlefield style fights from previous games even more exciting by allowing different approaches to fights to be more viable. Previous installments of the series pitted Master Chief against enemies in arena-style fights, which had a repeating cycle of short battles and then exposition. Infinite has a different sense of balance between combat and exposition. One minute, you’re riding along through the ring, and suddenly you stumble upon a battle between Banished forces and surviving Marines. All hell breaks loose. In prior installments, you knew when combat would start due to the layout of an area, but in Halo Infinite, it’s less predictable but in the best way possible. It brings the ringworld to life and has a sense of curiosity as to what you’ll find yourself in next, similar to random encounters in other RPGs. ENEMIES In a first for the series, boss fights also make an appearance in the campaign. The boss fights in the story force you to take the damage system seriously because, without them, you’re bound to have a hard time. The bosses come with their own special fighting style. For example, the Spartan Killers, Hyperius and Tovarus, are both battled at the same time in the mission ‘Pelican Down.’ Hyperius wields a unique Ravager, S7 sniper, and rides a Chopper, while his brother Tovarus has a Scrap Cannon and spike grenades. Fighting both at the same time proves to be a mighty challenge since you’re in an open area with limited weaponry. Each boss has an arena that puts you at a disadvantage, like when you fight the invisible, energy sword-wielding Elite, Chak ’Lok, in a small room full of smoke. Another example would be fighting against the lightning-fast Harbinger in the final mission, along with her incredibly difficult waves of enemies. The bosses come in all forms of Banished and remain a constant threat in both main missions and side objectives. Although the bosses are difficult, Halo Infinite’s standard enemies pose their own threats and must be handled differently. For example, Jackals have to be dealt with quickly since they often show up with marksman rifles that deal heavy damage. Elites are easily recognized by their tall stature and signature mandibles. They’re honor-bound Captains of the Banished whose inspiring presence makes their soldiers more emboldened and less fearful. Taking them out makes the rest of the battle much more manageable. Grunts are the small and frightened cannon fodder of the Banished who often run in fear when their higher-ups are defeated. UPGRADES One of the other new additions to the campaign is an upgrade system. Master Chief can now upgrade parts of his kit to make his gadgets much more powerful by finding and acquiring Spartan Cores. Become a walking tank by upgrading your shield to absorb more damage before breaking or greatly improve the agility of Chief by reducing the cooldown between uses of the Grappleshot. Reduced cooldown is an absolute must if you plan on playing around with the grappling hook during combat since waiting for it to recharge can mean life or death. All of the upgrades play their parts and can be integral to having a battle go your way. The Threat sensor can be upgraded to have a permanent mark on the enemy along with a visible health bar. The Drop Wall can have its strength increased and add shock damage to projectiles you fire through it. Finally, the thruster can increase its dodge distance and give you a cloak effect after use. Each ability upgrade plays into how well you’ll perform during a fight since not using them can cause you to take a lot more damage. OUTPOSTS Those aren’t the only new changes Infinite brings to the table. Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) are another new addition to the map. They appear as outposts you can claim during your fight against the Banished and serve as fast travel points. Alongside these FOBs comes a currency known as Valor. Valor is earned through completing the various side missions available across Zeta Halo. The currency allows you to unlock supplies and weapons to aid you in dominating the Banished and the battlefield. Your hard-earned Valor needs only to be spent once for unlimited access to the requisitions. From the simple yet reliable Sidekick sidearm all the way to the big bad behemoth of ground warfare, the Scorpion, Valor enables you to bring out any sort of weapon or vehicle for any scenario. SIDE OBJECTIVE The open world of Zeta Halo also has many side missions available, such as hunting down high-value targets (HVTs), rescuing UNSC Marines, and capturing abandoned outposts. These missions can be a great break from the story or provide much-needed Valor to help during the story. Undertaking a High-Value Target mission is as simple as going to the marked location and killing the target. The bosses appear as various types of Banished, and each has its own dossier with backstory and potentially useful information, such as strengths, weaknesses, and potential combat strategies. The HVTs also carry a unique weapon that drops when their wielder is defeated and can be purchased with valor for use during missions. When you’re not taking Banished lives, you can instead save those of the survivors of the UNSC Infinity’s crash. The Marine survivors will usually be engaging Banished troops, and it’s your job to make sure they survive. Upon saving the Marines, you’ll be rewarded with Valor as well as some new comrades who are willing to ride in vehicles and fight with you. Aside from the HVT hunting and marine distress signals, outposts are also available. Each Outpost offers several different objectives that need to be completed in order to shut down the facility. The objectives vary depending on the function of the Outpost, and completing a task can cause enemy reinforcement. Similarly to FOBs, the Outposts act as fast travel points after they’re finished and can be used to call in supplies unlocked through Valor. FIRST-PERSON SHOOTER - 80/100 As a first-person shooter, Halo Infinite’s campaign excels at the traditional formula while adding new gameplay elements like boss fights. In these additions, Infinite delivers a fun and memorable combination of well-paced storytelling and solid gameplay. The RPG elements, like armor upgrades, make for a more engaging experience by giving an enticing reason to explore the levels and open world of Zeta Halo. All of these elements come together and deliver an amazing FPS game that doesn’t disappoint. GRAPHICS ART DIRECTION - 95/100 Halo Infinite is the most graphically advanced Halo to date thanks to the new Slipspace engine, which allows it to outshine the previous installments by providing new and updated visuals. The engine enables excellent use of volumetric lighting, giving the interiors beautiful rays of light that shine through cracks and around objects. Each of these components lends itself to the world of Zeta Halo and makes it a true marvel to look at. Indoor sections feel realistic through their use of volumetric lighting and high-resolution textures. These elements make the walk through Forerunner facilities feel strange and alien as the lights twist and turn while you maneuver through the halls. Master Chief's damaged armor looks amazing in the cutscenes, where it looks battered and beat from the various battles the suit has seen. Compared to Halo 5, it’s far more appealing in the lighting and detail while remaining much more realistic with its high-resolution textures. It’s small things like this that make all the difference in how you perceive the game and the time put into it. The art design of the levels works great in conjunction with the Forerunner plot elements introduced in Halo 4 as the beginning of the Reclaimer Saga. We see a lot of the Forerunner technology at work through things like bridges appearing as you approach and the Forerunner Sentinels flying overhead and working on repairs within facilities. These seemingly small details play a big role in making the factions more believable while also allowing the world to feel unique. While some levels in other Halo games felt a little too similar to one another in some cases, each level in Infinite feels completely different while retaining the identity of Halo Infinite. Compared to the first mission, where the halls of the Banished ship are claustrophobic and limit movement while eliciting the feeling of having a daunting task ahead, ‘Silent Auditorium’ brings you within a massive Forerunner facility that feels larger than life and has a feeling of finality to it. The larger-than-life buildings of the Forerunners combined with the shiny silver exterior that makes up their facilities make for very regal settings. When paired with the grand and open interiors, the areas provide a majestic feeling and truly make the sci-fi notion come to life. The Banished forces come with their own unique looks as well, with their scarlet armor providing a contrast to the environment that allows for them to be easily distinguished from the background. The scarlet of their armor compliments their ferocity in battle since the Banished aren’t ones to run away from conflict, even with Master Chief. REPLAYABILITY - 85/100 One of the best parts of Halo campaigns is how replayable they are. Whether you’re playing alone or with a friend at your side, the story of Halo Infinite is captivating and gripping enough to make it worth a few extra playthroughs. The side missions and the optional bosses are plentiful enough that you may not be able to complete the extra objectives in a single run. Aside from a completionist run, you can also try your hand at the infamous LASO challenge. LASO, standing for Legendary All Skulls On, is the ultimate test of your Halo skills and can be as infuriating as it is gratifying once you make it through a section. LASO is just one of many challenging ways the community has made Halo replayable and always a fresh experience. Master Chief’s journey on Zeta Halo is easy to jump back into even after beating it and is great if you’re looking to experience a quality storyline in a fan-favorite universe. FUN FACTOR - 95/100 The Halo Infinite campaign is incredibly fun and makes for a memorable experience with all of its new additions. Between the classic and new formula for Halo, it finds itself in the middle, where new gameplay elements mesh together with the traditional style seamlessly. The game succeeds at giving you fun new things to play around with while remaining true to the original Halo style. You’ll find the most fun moments when the gameplay finally ‘clicks’ and you manage to pull off that awesome sniper shot or kill that boss that’s been giving you trouble. It’s such a satisfying feeling when you manage to latch onto a Brute chopper with the Grappleshot and yank the Banished out of their vehicles. It feels straight out of a movie and makes you truly immerse yourself in the incredible feats Master Chief is known to pull off. These moments of triumph are what add up to making the campaign so fun and can keep you coming back for more. TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE - 97/100 Through the time played on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X, the game was incredibly well optimized. The graphics were noticeably different between the two generations, but it’s to be expected with the hardware differences. The game ran as smoothly as ever from the beginning to the end of the campaign. The Xbox One had some intermittent lag and stutter, but it wasn’t enough to impact gameplay significantly. The game ran very consistently throughout the campaign experience and made for a very enjoyable experience since it suffered no crashes. CREATIVE REVIEW Halo Infinite, released on December 8, 2021, is an ambitious follow-up to 2015’s Halo 5: Guardians. The game began development by 343 Industries just three years later. This sci-fi first-person shooter is the third installment in the Reclaimer Saga that began with Halo 4 and was published by Xbox Game Studios. Infinite was intended to be a launch release for the Xbox Series XS but was delayed due to internal conflict on development decisions. This installment utilizes the new Slipspace engine in conjunction with Faber, a set of developer tools with some of its components dating back to the early 2000s. Since its release, the campaign has been the subject of critical acclaim, with many praising the innovations the new story brought with it. An open world, new armor abilities, and a new faction all come with the installment’s 28-hour story mode. On the other hand, the free-to-play multiplayer was heavily criticized for its lack of content at launch. Since then, Infinite’s multiplayer has gone through several seasons, each of them introducing new content and different cosmetics to obtain through battle pass progression. When I booted up the campaign for the first time, I couldn’t help but reminisce on all the good times I had both solo and with friends in previous installments. Memories like Grifball on Halo: Reach, dying four thousand times to Jackal Snipers on Halo 2, and Arbiter saving Chief with a flamethrower in Halo 3. I went in expecting something at least a little better than the catastrophe of Halo 5, but instead, I was met with something very different and unique for the series. Let’s start from the beginning: the opening cutscene and mission one. While Chief is known to be one of gaming’s coolest characters, he got humbled extremely quickly. The scene opens with pure chaos ensuing. There’s fire, plasma, and bullets flying everywhere, and Chief is at the center of it all. I felt like a kid in a candy shop, watching him skillfully maneuver and take down several opponents. That is until the big baddie of the Banished came along. The following encounter between Atriox and Master Chief was absolute humiliation for the mean green killing machine. Atriox grabs him, beats him with his admittedly cool hammer, drags Master Chief through the hangar, and then throws him into space. I was in pure shock as to how Chief just got beaten like nothing. Isn’t he a ‘hyper-lethal’ class Spartan? Maybe it was because he got caught off guard. Regardless, I just watched my childhood get thrown to his presumable death, and I wanted revenge. Mission one sees us go in a Banished Warship to free the Pelican that Echo-216 saved us with from certain doom. It was straightforward, and I got a good glimpse of that classic Halo gameplay loop so many of us loved: Exploration, combat, and then some exposition. It’s a simple yet effective formula that kept me engaged the whole game. In this opening mission, we get introduced to the newest piece of equipment: the Grappleshot. While simple, it plays a huge role in every aspect of this game. As I got the hang of using it, I found that I could use it for more effective maneuverability in combat, something I did the entire game, which saved me many times. I got to the control room and promptly blew the ship to Smithereens, which left me feeling a lot of satisfaction as I mentally recovered from seeing Chief beaten up by Atriox. After the Banished Warship and one other mission, we get to explore the open world of Zeta Halo. The world is exciting and fun to explore while supporting characters and cutscenes only add to the already gripping story. I quickly fell in love with the campaign and its characters in a way I hadn’t felt since Halo 4. When I wasn’t doing one of the story missions, I was out, causing a ruckus with the side missions. The High-Value Target missions were personal favorites that you’ll love if you’re a fan of boss fights, something Infinite doesn’t shy away from and has plenty of. Each fight feels like a real challenge since they all put you at a distinct disadvantage, like the Pelican Down mission, where you fight Hyperius and Tovarus at the same time with limited space and weaponry. This challenge translated well into a stark contrast between regular enemies and bosses. It made the bosses really feel threatening, a feeling I felt most games lacked since the fight with General Raam way back in the first Gears of War. There were countless battles, a lot of dying, and tons of fun to be had. By the time I reached the Silent Auditorium, I had amassed an arsenal of weapons that I thought would make it a piece of cake. Spoiler alert: it was far from easy. I struggled on this mission quite a bit and had to take a break and tackle it again the next day. There were tons of enemies of varying calibers and carrying a lot of guns, but that was nothing new for a final Halo mission. It feels like enemy AI was much better this time around due to technological improvements and level designs largely being in favor of the Banished. The Silent Auditorium is a beautiful but deadly level that kept me on my toes and gave me a real sense of finality and importance as I made my way through the Banished army, protecting the final boss. It really makes you utilize every bit of tech and upgrade you’ve gotten up to this point. I had to throw down many Drop Walls, use a lot of Grappleshots to run away and heal, and use more Threat Sensors than I could count. Eventually, I got to the final boss with little ammo and very small amounts of optimism about the upcoming fight. The reasoning is spoiler-heavy, so I won’t say much, but when you get ready for this mission, come prepared to die a lot. Halo Infinite had a rocky beginning but has a bright future ahead of it so long as 343 Industries keeps up the amazing work they’ve been doing during the past and current seasons. The campaign is on par with the original trilogy, which many consider to be the pinnacle of the series. It manages to define itself as a fantastic third entry to the Reclaimer Saga that had a rough start with the release of Halo 4 and the negatively received Halo 5: Guardians. While the campaign introduces some things that may initially turn away long-time fans, the gameplay and new additions make the story able to be experienced in a new and unique way. This is only furthered by a fantastic upgrade system that keeps you in the fight against an enemy that hits hard and can take a punch. The level design choices utilize the new gameplay additions like the Grappling Hook to their full extent and encourage you to play around with your new toys, see what strikes your fancy, and master their uses. Likewise, the multiplayer has a lot of charm. The addition of new weapons, new maps, and new modes add up and make for an awesome bout of fun with friends or even by yourself. The seasonal releases and cosmetics for the multiplayer only add to the fun with what many consider to be the best customization received since Halo: Reach. It may have been roughly criticized in the beginning, but it’s clear that 343 Industries took the criticism and set out to give Infinite the makeover of a lifetime. Halo Infinite surpasses expectations while remaining humble in its delivery of an unforgettable campaign and an equally addicting multiplayer that keeps many of us coming back for more. It’s amazing to see how far the game has come since its beta, and it’s hard to contain the excitement that comes with pondering what comes next. SCORE SUMMARY - 92/100 Halo Infinite is a fantastic entry into one of the most well-known gaming series, and it delivers on nearly every front in its campaign. The cutscenes are beautiful, the RPG elements are prevalent but not overpowering, and the core gameplay is reminiscent of classic Halo. The campaign is easily one of the best entries in the series and delivers a stellar game in all aspects. https://preview.redd.it/7efzm81s2h0d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=74b6dc6501766d0d0b7dba6dd892f4b232353ee1 Roland Martinez Reviewer Favorite Game: Gears of War submitted by GPTGamingNews to u/GPTGamingNews [link] [comments] |

2024.05.14 15:56 farawaylands4000 Wikipedia gets undeserved praise and its lifeless articles are inferior to Encyclopedia Britannica's
So I had the intention of writing this for some time. I will give a brief rundown of my relationship to Wikipedia, but that is not necessary for the main point of my opinion.
The main point is that while Wikipedia has a quantitative superiority, qualitatively Encyclopedia Britannica is superior. The specific trigger that motivated me to write this was when I was looking up articles on Johannes Gutenberg.
https://www.britannica.com/biography/Johannes-Gutenberg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_Gutenberg I will not delve on the specific qualities of clarity and intention behind the writing in the Britannica article as compared to Wikipedia's, but I think it is evident if one reads the Wikipedia one first and the Britannica after.
It so much more tailored for what a 'reader' expects to get from the text. Wikipedia seems to be not written with a conception of what the readers 'must get'. It is made up of bland information. It doesn't try to touch the reader, it is lifeless. Reading the Wikipedia's article, the aspects of the story, of the biography, don't stick in the mind. Just blobs of timid reporting, holding hands with the reference latched to it.
When you read it, even the most 'well written' ones, with gold or silver stars and so on, it seems nothing gets through seamlessly.
This probably stems from not giving authority to an authoritative authoeditor to make their decision on what to leave out and what to put in. The article referenced was written by a specific man Hellmut E. Lehmann-Haupt and by the editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica. So the Wikipedia editor may feel like it's too much work to 'encroach' in other contribuitions and remake the whole text to be more 'proper'.
I also wanted to write this, because there is a pervasive good will towards Wikipedia everywhere, specially on the internet. Searching on this subreddit, I couldn't find any similar opinion. Except from more academic proficient folk, I almost hear no suspicion, scepticism or hesitation towards Wikipedia on these levels (quality of writing/quality of knowledge/quality of what makes a good encyclopedia article).
Now with that out of the way, my relationship with Wikipedia, which is not required reading. First, I was positive towards it, in my teens. I read a blogger which had good opinions about it. In his youth he would say he looked with glowing eyes to the Barsa encyclopedia. And when Wikipedia arrived, with its aura of freedom of information and thought of the new internet, he liked it. He liked the way it functioned, with a peer network anyone could participate to deliberate on what should be done, what policies should exist and when it should be enforced in this or that way. Politically, he made metaphors on how politics could work more like that, with direct democracy being a possible horizon to go towards.
So I used Wikipedia in this period, until the next epoch of my attitude towards Wikipedia, in this naive way. Not looking up the sources, just reading the summary phrases in the article; not realizing what sources were allowed or not (and the implication this has on a correct assessment, to reach the truth). But I did read some discussions between editors in some articles.
Amusing disputes, where policies were cited left and right and long discussions followed on the correct application of said policies. A little bit of cynicism started to be picked up by me, regarding who won the disputes and how and why.
Anyway, my second contact with differing inclinations towards Wikipedia was brought by Nathan Rich, by some videos of his on his Youtube channel. In some videos, he shows the bias of The New York Times, and of Wikipedia, all regarding China. This made it patent to me that media can be biased, in subtle ways, which when you are properly on the know (with the 'They Live' glasses on your nose) in very unsubtle and laughable ways.
The disputes on Wikipedia could be won if a relentless enough editor kept at it, almost like a lawyer; or better, similar to how a judge can, in weighting the interests and rights of opposing parties, sway either way according with its moral/ideological inclinations.
This view of judges grew out of watching American contract law lectures by Yale University, available on Youtube, which gave me a sense on how there is a lot of gray area in deciding the 'common good'. And lectures and books by Ian Shapiro, also from Yale and available on Youtube, which showed me a biased judge which subtly had defended a member of the capitalist class, using legal justification which passes as good enough for the system, despite being arguably not in accordance with the law, according with Shapiro's judgment.
Anyway, the next epoch of big blocks of views I was exposed to, was from the Youtube videos of BadEmpanada ('The Holodomor Genocide Question: How Wikipedia Lies to You' by BadEmpanada). He showed also how Wikipedia articles can be biased. They almost certainly are regarding political matters, where there is concentrated interest in swaying public opinion and forming a status quo of consent and hovering consensus. The references allowed, western 'free press', are heavily biased. Noam Chomsky and the other guy's Manufacturing of Consent became clear in my mind. There was no free press. Journalism wasn't a glamorous endeavor, with the pen of justice and truth as its symbol. It is a clown show, for the most part.
BadEmpanada showed the efforts put in bot farms and manual troll farms to create a specific consensus of what is and is not common sense (I did not find the video now). In particular, the efforts of the country of [You may not have "" in your post body.] (now I think I may have that word in the post; the country is Israel), also on Wikipedia if I am not incorrect. Creating task forces to 'litigate' on the Talk section.
Another contact was with the video 'How Wikipedia Got Ex Machina (2014) Wrong' by Shaun. The author has a positive outlook towards Wikipedia, but points out another fault in qualitative quality of the writing. There is also a right wing (libertarian) channel with a video criticizing Wikipedia, which is the only video I agree after watching a couple of his later.
More recently, yesterday, I entered another epoch. 'Wikipedia Donations Exposed. The Truth.' by Logically Answered, put Nupedia vs Wikipedia on the spotlight, and it makes it clear Wikipedia only 'won' because of numeric advantage, outputting more articles. That Wikipedia has articles other Encyclopedias don't have, well ok; that is not my point, good for Wikipedia I guess. And Wikipedia shennanigans on how it asks for money, and how the money is not spent to improve the aspects of the quality of writing, just adds to all this unpopular opinion.
In conclusion, wikipedia is too highly regarded, with at most some criticism about how it is not a 'source' in itself, but none about the qualities which make an encyclopedia article good as an encyclopedia article. The criticism seems to rest mostly on the bias regarding political/social articles, and how one should approach the references. But there is a general sense that despite that, with the right approach, it is a good resource to learn about a subject. My disagreement is regarding that; as a learning tool, it is often ignored how lacking in intention the writing is. Sometimes I read some paragraphs, and nothing is apprehended truly. If you pick the first reference of a Wikipedia article, often used in the first paragraph to define the subject of the Wikipedia article, and compare that unobstructed definition with the Wikipedia's introduction/definition, the difference is stark. One coldly 'informs' and the other richly entails meaning and comprehension.

2024.05.14 15:54 ASpookyDog A Mega Man Retrospective - Mega Man Zero 2
Hi there!
Boy, I had a lot to say about this one. So far, the Zero series has been a blast. Really excited to keep diving into them! I've heard the ZX series is also good, but a bit weird... but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
As always, if you read all this rambling nonsense, thank you!
Mega Man Zero 2 A game sequel is a great opportunity to fine-tune a great or flawed game. Where Mega Man Zero set the stage for yet another Mega Man spinoff series, Zero 2 is where it begins to find its footing—but not without tripping a bit.
I think Zero 2 can be summed up like this: it is more Mega Man Zero. If you liked that game, you will like this game. It carries over much of what that game established and adds a few minor QOL tweaks to make it shine. Sadly, I think the flaws it doesn’t address is what holds Zero 2 back from being truly great.
Let’s start with the good stuff.
The storyline here is a big step-up. With these games, it’s clear Capcom wanted to place a greater focus on the characters themselves, along with storylines that are a bit more complex than “wake up Mega Man the same asshole you’ve fought for 10 years is, to everyone’s surprise, being an asshole”. The game’s main villain, for example, is a well-meaning chap that starts off on your side but becomes corrupt thanks to what seems to be an intense desire to prove himself—a desire that leads to a ton of collateral damage to both allies and enemies. We establish what I imagine will be a key theme going forward: whatever the hell the Dark Elf is, it seems to latch onto personality quirks that it can use to its advantage and crank them up to 11. Just about every boss you fight exhibits this, especially in the refight stages. It’s not quite going Maverick; something about it feels more sinister, somehow.
The elf system returns, and using them still tanks your rank, but this time you can at least find sub tanks out in the world. A new upgrade system rewards you for playing through levels in specific ways (kill X amount of enemies with a dash attack, kill Y amount of enemies with the buster, etc.) and grants you new forms that do everything from turning your saber combo into a single powerful swing or letting you roly-poly-blenderman your way across stages (a personal favorite, for sure).
Another upgrade system, one that I have mixed feelings on, is EX forms. Bosses still don’t drop their weapons, but if you clear a level while your rank is A or higher, you’ll unlock a unique, often powerful ability. I’m mixed on this because on one hand, rewarding skilled play is great. It incentivizes more playthroughs and taking the time to master the game’s systems (and, indeed, I do really want to play this one again and see if I can improve! And I wanna try hard mode! Mega Man games do not typically have this effect on me!). On the other… well. I don’t think it’s very fun to grant awards that ultimately make the game easier and more fun… to highly skilled players only. I feel like they could’ve balanced this better. If nothing else, tying the “damage” points to how much health you have at the end of a boss vs. how much damage you took throughout the level may have balanced it out more.
Or perhaps I should simply “git gud” as the kids say. (Do the kids still say this? Sorry. I’m an old)
One thing to the game’s detriment is that weapon upgrades return, and they’re just as clunky as before. Kill X enemies with a weapon and you’ll unlock a new ability for it, and just like Zero 1, the charge shot takes way too long to get to. Let me charge my damn shots, Capcom! Why make me wait?
The other returning flaws are harder to blame the game for—i.e., the GBA’s screen size making it harder to avoid damage from off-screen (and spikes, Capcom please, you do not need to put spikes at the bottom of a long drop, who hurt you?). Things like that.
Along with returning flaws come a handful of new ones. The most significant one being the Chain Rod. I don’t really know how to sugar coat this: the Chain Rod sucks. As a weapon it’s mostly fine, I guess. But the utility is bafflingly poor. The intended use of it is to use it as a grappling hook, swinging across ceilings to avoid spikes or to reach higher, hard-to-reach spots. The problem is that it feels awful to use. Building momentum simply isn’t possible—it stops you dead in your tracks unless you manage to angle the shot just right during a jump. Maybe my brain is just hard-wired to use these things a certain way (Super Metroid, Super Castlevania IV, and even Environmental Station Alpha comes to mind) but there was almost never a point where using this thing felt better than just jumping across a gap or finding some other way to get to an Elf.
That aside, when I say this game is “more Mega Man Zero” that does mean all the good things as well. Boss fights? Sublime. Zero’s controls? Smooth. The spritework? Immaculate. Ultimately, I feel that Zero 2 is an improvement over Zero 1 in almost every conceivable way. But there are enough little things carried over from the first that I’m left wanting more. It is for that reason that I’m giving it a slightly lower score.
8/10

2024.05.14 01:07 Natural_Sundae2110 Sharing my experience with pre-built pc (Lenovo Legion Tower 5i)
Might not be the right /r but I want share my experience anyways. I recently got a Lenovo Legion Tower 5i pre-built pc from my local BestBuy (B660 MOBO/i5-13400f/32gb DDR5/512gb NVME SSD/550W PSU and RTX 3060 12GB) for $1200CAD on Sale. I had initially put these parts online and it came in only slightly cheaper on new parts but considering I did not have to put the time and effort to put it together and cable manage it I think it was an okay deal. This was my first gaming PC after almost 15 years since I moved to a PS4->PS5 and never looked back until now.
I decided to upgrade the GPU for a 4060ti ($500), I know, it does not meet the price vs performance ratio but it was what I could afford and I wanted DLSS Frame Gen. The 4070 next in line was $250 more expensive than this one and even a 3060ti was the same price so this is where I went, Yes, I wanted to buy new only.
But lol did I underestimate this simple exercise, turns out the pre-installed Windows 11 OS is a piece of crap! It would freeze every time I put in the 4060ti and when I went back to 3060 it would run fine. Every driver update would cause the PC to freeze (yes I tried the display driver reset key shortcut) but that did not work either! So yuck, please do a fresh install of Windows on your pre-built to avoid this!
Anyways, I just decided to do my own clean install. A small tip here for first time users, if you are buying pre-built first startup the PC using your Microsoft account so that the license key gets linked to it. Then when you use the Media Creation Tool to create a new Windows Copy it just takes the old key linked to your account and no more activation steps are needed!
Anyways, been 2 weeks now since the clean install build and no complaints, the 4060ti is OC and performs rather well. Oh, and another thing, when you do a OS Installation using the Media Creation Tool remember to have it hooked up to Ethernet because it won't install the Wifi drivers automatically. My router was 25ft away, so my wife wasn't exactly thrilled with the cat6 line running through the middle of the house! But hey, it needed what it needed. I got a decent setup now and just wanted to share my experience. Let the Hunger Games (for my GPU choice) begin!

2024.05.13 08:21 Weird_Tomatillo4824 I created a code gen / framework to simplify backend dev in Node.js
Hey fellow Node developers!
I created a code gen / framework to simplify backend dev in Node.js. My goal is to help backend dev (at least for myself) to save time writing the basic logic wiring the data all the way from database schema to business logic to the API presentation. Here are some problems I was trying to solve:
- Avoid exceptions on undefined fields, and load associations on demand without worrying about N+1 issues. Very often, when we load data models with ORMs, we got POJOs that contains only fields that we selected or included (e.g. Prisma), and there's no way to easily load associations later on unless we explicitly issue another query with the ORM. This framework created "Entity" for every data model that can automatically load associations when you need without having to remember what is loaded vs what is not loaded originally.
- Extend the data models to include extra fields for API presentations. A lot of times, you have fields that are derived from the raw db fields and you want them to be exposed to API only. The framework's "Entity" supports defining the extra computed fields with custom logic for API presentation.
- Present fields on demand. The framework supports loading or computing only the field that is requested, similar to what GraphQL intends to do.
- It can generate Prisma's DBML to "Entity" for all the above beneifts.
- It can support endpoint-level and field-level API permission checks. For full-stack projects like Next.js, it can automatically generate API routes and client side SDKs. It can even be used to generate react-query hooks...
Here're the project links:
Please let me know what do you think about this and if the post describes some problems you might have had as a backend developer. If you feel the tool is valuable, feel free to message me. I am also happy to hear if there's a better framework you would recommend that can solve these problems. Thank you for taking your time reading through this post!

2024.05.13 05:07 SudsyRuby12509 Help me build an engineering and gaming workhorse! Budget $3000-4000
Forgive my wordiness, I've been wanting to build a PC since 2017, finally have the money to do so, and want it to be the best given current state-of-the-art components.
This prebuilt got me through college and the last couple years, but it's time for a significant upgrade to carry me well into the future. I want to use the computer for years to come.
Please reach out with follow-up/clarification questions or comments.
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using. Looking for a workhorse PC for the following usage categories:
- General Life Tasks (approx 20% of usage)
- Engineering (approx 30% of usage, but is likely to significantly increase as I invest more time into projects and expand my knowledge/application base)
- Gaming (approx 50% of usage, likely to decrease due to reasons above, but still an important part of my life, and I want quality)
Specifics of each usage category: - General Life Tasks (~20%)
- Description - all I really mean by this is day-to-day web browsing, video/Netflix/etc. streaming, Microsoft Office Applications, etc. Think all the basic life related things you would need to use a computer for (personal budgets, setting up insurance, online banking/investing, planning vacations, photo storage, etc...). This should be a cakewalk for the computer, given the specs needed for the other two usage categories.
- Programs and Computer Features Used:
- General internet browser (Chrome, FF, etc.), email
- Spotify, YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc.
- Excel, Word, Lots of OneNote
- As a side note, if anyone has any note taking apps they really like, please let me know. I like OneNote since I use it at my engineering job, but I know there are some really good applications out there.
- Engineering (~30%, to increase)
- Description - I am a trained mechanical engineer with a passion for engineering design. I have lots of ideas for various projects I want to complete within the fields of mechanical eng, electrical eng, computer science, etc. I plan to use this computer as a tool to complete these projects - whether its for the planning/logistical side or technical, number-crunching side of design engineering. Lots of "multi-tasking" is done during these projects, so I want the computer to swiftly and efficiently handle these tasks concurrently (within reason, of course).
- Programs and Computer Features Used:
- CAD (Computer Aided Design) - Fusion360 now, would love to upgrade to a more robust CAD package at some point
- 3D Printing/Slicing software - I currently have a Prusa i3 MK3S+ and related software
- Other Manufacturing softwares - none used yet, but think laser cutting, CNC machining, etc.
- Engineering Softwares - Matlab, Arduino, COMSOL, CAD-based simulation (FEA, CFD), etc.
- Coding - VS Code, Equation solvers, etc. I'm a Python enjoyer, but can dabble in most common languages.
- Other - Excel, Word, PDFs, OneNote, videos
- Gaming (~50%, to decrease)
- Description - Casual gaming with my friends has been, and continues to be, an important part of my life since childhood. Ever since 2017, I've wanted to build a PC for crisp gaming, but that has obviously changed to include engineering usage too. I want the games I play to run smoothly and look beautiful. There's also potential I'd want to explore map/game design (think Black Ops 3 custom maps).
- Programs and Computer Features Used:
- Discord, streaming - only to friends through something like Discord, I do not want nor plan to become a streamer :)
- Steam, battle.net, riot, etc.
- Oculus/VR - I have a Quest, but don't really use it much. This would be more of a bonus to include.
- Examples of games I play a lot and/or want to look really nice:
- Call of Duty - Multiplayer
- Call of Duty - Zombies + Modded
- Helldivers
- Minecraft, vanilla and modded, with shaders and nice texture packs
- Red Dead 2
- League
- Valorant/CSGO (other shooters in general)
- Bonus Usage:
- I love EDM and music in general - would love to mess around creating some music at some point. DJ/Mixing (DAW) software.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes? Looking around $3,000-4,000. If there is a significant argument to bump up components based on my usage categories above (i.e. 4080 Super vs 4090), that is fine. I plan to use this PC for years to come, am treating it as an investment, and want quality and performance.
I know it is against the rules to say "No budget! Give me the best!" but that's honestly what I'm looking for here. From what I've seen, anything over $4,000 is really just overkill cost wise for the small bumps in performance, but you all are the experts :)
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Soon. I'd say within a week of this post, the replies, and any follow-up. I have a friend at Microcenter out east (PA, USA) who I've been discussing the build with and can hook me up with shipping/rebate deals as applicable. Essentially, looking for 2nd/3rd opinions since I'll be investing quite a sum of money.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc) Toweall internal components, any tooling/thermal paste for the build, and a fresh copy of Windows.
I have monitors, keyboards, mice, etc. that I will be reusing for now, but will upgrade in the future. See below.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location? Wisconsin, USA. I have a friend who works at a Microcenter in Pennsylvania, USA, so have access through him. Worst comes to worst, I'm fine taking a trip or shipping from the Westmont/Chicago locations.
I also have some BestBuy and Amazon gift cards to burn, so we have options there.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated. Monitors:
- Dell S2422HG (main, gaming, CAD, etc.)
- Dell ST2320L (aux)
- Acer Predator XB241H (used for remote job, used to be main gaming monitor)
Keyboard - Logitech G413 SE
Mouse - Logitech G502
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU? Always been curious about overclocking both GPU and CPU, but I don't know what I'd use that for yet. Would happen down the line, and I'd be a newbie at it.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc). - Lots of storage for games, engineering files, photos. SSDs are a must. I don't want to be tearing the beast apart to add more storage unless absolutely necessary.
- I've heard that installing your OS on a solely dedicated SSD is ideal for performance, not sure if that's the case at all. Looking for guidance there.
- I want to eventually bump my main monitor up to 1440p (maybe 4k if I'm feeling crazy), 144+ Hz refresh. Generally, just want top-of-the-line graphics for games.
- Liquid cooling
- Prefer Intel, as I've heard it handles multicore processing better for all the multitasking the computer will do (i.e. i9-14900K, etc.), but I'm by no means a processor expert.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components? I believe a mid-tower will suffice for my application, but please advise if not. I want the case to get lots of airflow to ensure components are running smoothly and cool. Total LxWxH size is not really a problem, although, I don't want a server tower sitting in my bedroom :)
I'd like to be able to see into the computer (glass side panel). Color-wise, I'm going for low-profile, black. RGB/LED is not a huge concern, but would definitely be welcome (a little color never hurt anybody). If RGB/LED is included, I'd like to have as much control over the colors/flashing/etc. as possible. It would be nice to see the internals lit up, but not a key priority.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference? Yes, I'll need a fresh copy included. Latest/recommended version of Windows Pro based on above usage descriptions.
Extra info or particulars: I think I have everything covered, but please reach out with clarification questions or comments if I am missing any key details. I don't plan to tear the build apart or upgrade in the future, so I want the initial build to be robust (barring storage expansion, if need be).

2024.05.12 01:50 Norst4thwckd 07 Sienna Rear Hatch Help
07 Sienna. I’m trying to diagnose an issue with the rear hatch lock actuatomotor. I have 3 of them so I will refer to them as follows. Stock actuator = A1. Replacement actuator from an 07 Sienna from a junkyard = A2. Second replacement actuator from an 08 Highlander from a junkyard = A3. In an attempt to fix my problem of the rear hatch not working I purchased A2 from a near by pull yard. A2 did not correct the issue. A2 worked one time while attempting to test it. I hooked the vehicle up to a scan tool and it registered a signal from the trigger to open the rear hatch. Knowing that I was getting power to the actuator and that I was getting a signal from the trigger I assumed A2 had the same issue as A1. I went to the same pull yard and grabbed A3 from an 08 highlander “the latch assembly is slightly different but the motors are identical down to the part number.” I took A3 out to my vehicle, plugged it in and hit the trigger. A3 activated, I manually put it back into a locked position and triggered it again. It worked and I repeated that a few more times with the same result. Satisfied with my results I attempted to install A3 but it did not line up quite right. I swapped the motor from A3 and put it on the latch assembly from A1. I finished the install, made sure everything was plugged in and hit the trigger…defeat. I was very confused by this so I swapped the A3 motor back to the A3 latch and it would no longer actuate. I hooked my power probe to both A1 and A3 motors, both of which turned on so I know the motors work. I know the motor gets signal. Why are they not actuating? If anyone knows the reason or knows where to look next I would greatly appreciate advice. To answer and potential questions, I have checked fuses, I have checked the wiring coming off the connectors, maybe about 6 inches from the connectors. I made sure the vehicle was unlocked and the latch was in the latched position. Please help.

2024.05.10 22:47 jortheho333 Rough Country compressor install
| Been looking at the ARB compressor but wasn't thrilled about the $600 price tag. Saw the RC was half the price and decided to give it a shot. First I found out the mounts for the ARB is not compatible, so I decided to make my own. Using CAD (cardboard kind) I starting to Figure out where I would mount the compressor. I made a more solid mount out of fiber board. Then some 11ga aluminum. This was to thick to bend in my wood working vice, so I milled some slots and annealed the 3 tabs and got a perfect bend. Knowing I will be eventually adding more accessories, I decided to install a fuse box with a breaker. Chloe Kuo has a good video on the mount for these. I was able to run the switch wire through a the fire wall with a factory harness. So no added holes. Once I got the compressor mounted I heat shrinked the fittings. (Don't know if it was nessisary, just like using it) connected everything the fuse box. Unfortunately cause I didn't want to use a fuse tap it always connected to the battery. But a flip of the breaker and I don't have to worry about a dead battery. Previously I installed a 5 gal tank above my exhaust and plumbed that to a air chuck and blow off valve. Running 8mm line from the RC to the tank was easy but after running the compressor for 17 minutes, the 8mm line got to hot and popped. I put a manifold right on top of the compressor with a air chuck and psi gauge, my thought was it would act as a heat sink. But decided that would be to much weight. So I decided the mount the manifold to the mount that I made. I had to move the psi gauge to the truck bead and the blow off valve to the engine bay to get everything to fit. I used a bulk head npt fitting to attach the manifold to the mount, with 1/4 air line running to the tank in the bed. I ran out of the 8mm stuff. I had to change the line once already cause it was to close to the CAT but after re running it and checking for leaks I finally got the tank to hold air. It sits right at 145 psi (that's when the compressor shuts off automatically). Also Previously I made another manifold to air up all the tires. Because I was using two conventional tire inflators (Dewalt and Avid)I added two shrader valves that would still take 20-25 minutes to fill all 4 tires. About 6 mins a tire if used individually. Im probably going to add another psi gauge to the inflator manifold. Right now I have a nifty tool that fills the tires to a desired psi and shuts off. It also deflates tires too. Hooking the tire inflator up take 3 minutes and filling the tires from 18psi to 37psi takes just under five minutes. So it's a good improvement. I can use a impact gun using the air and was able to get 5 lugs off easy the 6 I had to let the compressor build a little bit (3-4mins) putting them back on I didn't test to see what they are torqued to. But looks like I have minimal air tool use. Eventually I'm probably going to run a more robust line fron the compressor to the tank. Dont trust the 1/4 line. I did have to hunt down two leaks, that was a pain due to all the fittings. I have one unused spot if I ever want to do air lockers but still undecided on air vs electric. Currently I'm loosing 20 psi a day but can't find the leak, I think is coming from the stainless steal jumpers does anyone have experience with these? submitted by jortheho333 to 4x4 [link] [comments] |
2024.05.09 20:21 Smokes_LetsGo_ Early Review of Stick Vac Upgrade from PBLSV716 to PBLSV719
My PBLSV719 Advanced Stick Vac came in the mail today, and I wanted to get my early impressions out, comparing it to the PBLSV716 Single Roller Pet Stick Vac I’ve been using for two years.
Major Pros: - The noise. This is easily the most welcome improvement. The noise level of the 716 was a bit of a deterrent to using it, despite how convenient it was. It has a loud, high pitch whine from the motor, and a fairly loud roller. The 719 has much quieter rollers, and the motor noise is much more tame and lower pitch. High speed on the 719 is quieter and more pleasant sounding than eco speed on the 716.
- The 719 is noticeably better performing than the 716, I can actually feel the vacuum’s suction to the floor now. In my very early testing, I found myself having to make less passes on hardwood, and it seemed to be much more useful on rugs, where I didn’t even bother to use my 716 on rugs. The additional plush roller is helping, I’m sure.
- The canister is clear now on the 719 instead of dark tinted on the 716. The dark one looked nice, but it made it very hard to tell when I had reached the max fill line. This was actually quite annoying, looking back at it.
- The 719 has a HEPA filter, and the 716 doesn’t. This is ultimately what won me over when considering the upgrade.
Pros: - The canister is slightly larger on the 719. 0.8L vs 1.0L.
- The 719 has a 10” roller width vs 9” on the 716. Might not fit in some spaces that the 716 could, but it’ll lead to less passes overall when cleaning an entire floor.
- The anti-hair-wrap roller works. I vacuumed up the area where my wife does her hair, and I found almost all of the hair made it into the canister, with minimal wrap. The claim is up to 9 inches of hair won’t wrap, and I believe it.
- On the 719, the vertical portion of the handle (when the vacuum is standing up) is now longer, so you can actually hold the vacuum from that portion now. Basically you have two angles to hold it instead of one in handheld mode.
- The roller base has a more secure mechanism to keep the vacuum standing up. On the 716 it felt like you had to make sure it was in the right position before letting go. It’s a more satisfying click on the 719 where you know it will stand up if you let it go. The larger base helps here as well.
- The roller base wheels are wider, smoother, and have less play on the 719. Much more premium feeling and quiet rolling it across the floor. Some of the play in the wheels on my 716 could be from wear, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the 719 had upgraded bearings. It feels that way.
- The roller base in general feels more robust. Of course I’m comparing a single roller vs a dual roller, but the 719 base does seem better built, maybe using some thicker plastics. I’m sure that contributes to less noise made from the base when rolling across the floor.
- The LED light is brighter on the 719 and shines a bit closer to the front of the vacuum than the one on the 716.
- The “Cheerio hole” is about twice as tall on the 719, so larger debris will get sucked up and not just pushed forward.
Minor Pros: - The rubber flap where debris enters the canister is redesigned, it seems that less material will get trapped there now.
- The additional micro crevice tool, motorized beater, and hair cutter for the roller are appreciated. I’m interested to try the micro crevice tool for cleaning out vehicles.
- I already appreciate the accessory holder you can snap onto the extension, which holds two accessories. It’s not the most robust system, but it’s much better than not having them on the vacuum itself at all times. I think the brush tool and crevice tool will live on there for me.
Cons: - I appreciated that the 716 started you on the high setting instead of eco, which I never used. The 719 starts you on medium, which appears to have less suction than high on the 716. I didn’t upgrade vacuums to have less suction, so I’ll have to switch to high almost every time I turn it on.
- Because of the new area to grab the vacuum that I mentioned, the buttons have been moved down. This means when you’re grabbing the vacuum in standing/roller mode, the power button is no longer conveniently located where you naturally rest your thumb. On the 716, the process was grab, press the power button with your thumb, and go. On the 719, the process will be to grab further down to turn it on and turn it to high, then shift your hand to start using it. Not a huge deal, but it won’t be as convenient to get started as it was on the 716.
- I’m not convinced the new system to latch the canister is any more user friendly. So far it seems more finicky to get on and off, but I imagine I’ll get used to it. It does seem like it should be more robust though, no longer relying on a small clip.
As a note, I did not end up going for the kit with the charging station, just didn’t have a need for it.
Hopefully this helps out for anyone who is in the market for one of the stick vacuums, or is thinking of upgrading. Most of what I talked about should also apply to the PBLSV717 dual roller. Let me know if you have any questions.
