2024 - Staked: 122.3u, Profit/Loss: 10u, ROI: 8.18%
I’ve had lots of people DM’ing me and engaging with the content recently, which is amazing and really rewarding. It’s so easy to enjoy this stuff when events like UFC 299 are the talking point, but sometimes it’s god awful Apex cards, and sometimes I need a bit more motivation. If you’d like to keep me motivated, or you wanted to say thank you for any help I may have given in cashing a bet, you can Buy Me a Coffee here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/SideswipeMMA
As always, scroll down for UFC Vegas 88 Breakdowns. The following is just a recap of last event’s results.
UFC 299 (PREVIOUS CARD)
Staked: 18u
Profit/Loss: +7.07u
ROI: 39.28%
Parlay Suggestions: 2-1
Dog of the Week: Michal Oleksiejczuk ❌ (annoying, as I picked Blaydes originally but then it went -110)
I got some really sexy CLV on the UFC 299 card. Did my damn job this week! And the fighters I bet certainly did their damn jobs too! Nice to get back to winning ways after a disastrous week on the Gaziev event. Really appreciated all those messages of support after a poor result, I’m glad I managed to get back in the win column and pay back all the belief you guys seem to have in me. Also happened to pay it back by giving out a couple of winning parlays in my DMs haha. Only point of frustration for me was that I was going to do a Trixie of Wood Decision/JDM KO/Phillips Decision but didn’t have time. That would have been some nice added money. Oh well.
Here’s some live thoughts on each bet:
✅ 3u Sean O’Malley to Win at -188 (won +1.59u)
Haven’t watched the fight yet but I hear it was a masterclass by O’Malley. Like I said, the devil is in the details and his evasiveness is elite. Chito can’t finish what he can’t hit.
❌ 3u Benoit St. Denis to Win at -137
Disappointed about this one, given the number I got was so good. I think I broke the fight down relatively well, as BSD did win 90% of the fight, and I think he still was the side to be on at -135. Dustin’s obsession with suicide guillotines was a narrative I referred to and that played directly into BSD's hands, as expected. Hell of a KO though by Dustin, I was surprised he caught him with the one punch KO. I knew Dustin would have his moments on the feet for sure, but trusted BSD's to take those kind of shots. Oh well, it was fun to get involved in such a divisive fight. Congrats to those who backed Dustin.
✅ 4u Mateusz Gamrot to Win at -225 (won +1.76u) ✅ 2u Mateusz Gamrot & Vitor Petrino to Win at -105 (won +1.9u)
Gamrot doing what Gamrot does best. Did get a bit worried after the early damage, and actually expected him to have more top control success than he did…but a win is a win and I waited three months for that one to cash.
✅ 2u Curtis Blaydes to Win at +100 (won +2u)
Haha, loved watching this one land. It was a weird finish, for sure, but I was really happy with the way Curtis was defending the grappling of Almeida to set that moment up for himself, so I think it was a good bet overall.
✅ 2u Kyler Phillips to Win by Decision at +100 (won +2u)
God damn Kyler looked great there. That opening round was one of the best five-minute performances I think I’ve ever seen. He really was in The Matrix. I also said in my breakdown that Munhoz has one of the best chins in MMA history, and he showed it there. Nice bet, really glad I went two units with it as usually I'm a bit gunshy with props.
❌ 1u Michal Oleksiejczuk to Win at +130
Hella power from Michel Pereira. That was always the danger and he hit that path to victory perfectly. This was a terrible bet, but really happy I got the money management right here to negate the loss from being too disasterous.
✅ 1u Joanne Wood – Decision Only at +200 (won +2u)
Love seeing JoJo ride off into the sunset with a win. Love cashing on her in her last fight. The Sideswipe WMMA party continues. Anyone who bet Moroz at that price, give your head a wobble.

UFC Vegas 88
More UFC Apex, more fat heavyweights. I just can’t wait. I’ve ranted about this one before, no point going through it again.
Let’s just get this over with.

Tai Tuivasa v Marcin Tybura
Binary fight. Tuivasa wants to bang, Tybura wants to grapple. Both men are equally weak to their opponents’ strength that this one is a very obvious 50/50 kind of thing. You could argue that Tuivasa’s path is much easier to hit, given that all fights start standing and all he needs is one punch, but Tybura has been in that kind of spot many times and has found a way to make it work in a lot of them.
There’s not much more to say, the betting line is rightly close. There’s no point thinking anymore about this one, leave it alone and look elsewhere on the card. It’s not a fight where you can get a big enough edge for there to be value.
How I line this fight: Tai Tuivasa -110 (52%), Marcin Tybura +110 (48%)
Bet or pass: Pass
Prop leans: None

Kennedy Nzechukwu v Ovince St Preux
I’m currently writing this whilst watching the Gaziev v Rozenstruik card in the background, so the -900 Javid Basharat loss is still very fresh in my memory. I initially had a 3u bet on both Javid and Kennedy’s moneylines (I bet that when Javid was -400), because I simply thought the -350 price tag here is a joke. I remember when I saw it as the opening number like a month ago and I laughed because I expected to see -600 by the time it hit the UK…but at the time of writing that -350 is still available.
Kennedy Nzechukwu isn’t going to be champion, but he’s firmly established himself as a legitimate UFC level fighter that can comfortably compete amongst the 7-15 ranked fighters in the division. He’s massive, has good takedown defence, hits hard, and has decent enough minute winning ability.
He faces Ovince St Preux, who I think should have retired about five years ago. He’s 40 years old (facing a 31-year-old, I know some of you love the age discrepancy statistics), and has been knocked out in three of his last four losses. The only exception was a split decision win against Shogun Rua, a guy that was also well overdue retirement at the time.
In his last fight, OSP got flatlined by Philipe Lins in under 50 seconds. Lins hadn’t won a fight ITD before that since 2018 when he was juiced up in the PFL. He isn’t known as a hard hitter at all, he’s a decision winning wrestler.
Obviously OSP is most dangerous as a grappler, but considering Kennedy Nzechukwu has recently gotten the better of Devin Clark and Ion Cutelaba, I think it’s safe to say he’s up for the challenge of dispatching someone who wants to land takedowns on him.
I’ve got 3u on Kennedy Nzechukwu. It was originally supposed to be in a parlay with Billy Q, but his fight has been cancelled so now it's a single.
How I line this fight: Kennedy Nzechukwu -900 (90%), Ovince St Preux +900 (10%)
Bet or pass: 3u Kennedy Nzechukwu to Win (-350), 2u Nzechukwu & Charalampos to Win (-110)
Prop leans: Kennedy ITD, but I fear price will be long gone by the time props come out

Mike Davis v Natan Levy
Mike Davis is lowkey one of the most disappointing stories in recent years. I think the guy had all the talent to be a top 15 fighter, but for some reason he just didn’t want to commit to his MMA career, and seems to be way more focused on other ventures outside of the cage than his career in it (dude is always on Instagram hyping up his twitch stream, but seldom posting about being in the gym). Perhaps all those months off dried up his funds, and he’s in need of a pay check?
He faces Natan Levy, who is kind of the opposite of Davis. Someone I have never really rated or expected good things from, but a guy who is respectfully plying his trade, staying active, and improving inside the Octagon.
This feels like the kind of situation you saw back in school, where there was that one kid that tried hard but only ever managed to get mid grades, vs another kid that coasted and never took it seriously but managed to pull good grades out of their ass seemingly every time.
But in terms of a serious breakdown, I think the version of Davis we have seen in the Octagon in recent years is a better striker and grappler than Levy, so should just coast to a win. The Israeli isn’t particularly powerful or show-stopping with his striking, he usually plays the evasive point scoring game (which very likely won’t work against Davis). He does his best work on the mat, but Beast Boy’s wrestling and grappling have always seemed to be at a decent enough level that I can’t really see that being the story of the fight either.
So this one should probably play out as a mild kind of fight, with Davis establishing himself as superior but Levy not getting embarrassed. However, the key word in that sentence is SHOULD, because Davis hasn’t performed since 2022 and I don’t think he’s trustworthy.
To assume that the Davis we get in this fight is the exact same guy from the tape would be foolish, so as much as it pains to pass up on what could be a pretty decent price, I’m not betting on Davis here. Don’t blame you if you choose to roll the dice though, but you should know by now that I’m quite risk averse and won’t force it where I don’t have to.
How I line this fight: Mike Davis -200 (67%), Natan Levy +200 (33%)
Bet or pass: Pass
Prop leans: None

Pannie Kianzad v Macy Chiasson
You know the matchmakers are struggling when they have to rebook the finale of TUF!
Pannie Kianzad is alright. She’s got pretty good hands for WMMA, but it’s still not good enough to separate herself from the rest of the unranked names. She can look great against the lower level, but eventually it turns into a step up and she struggles. Ketlen Vieira and Raquel Pennington are her most recent losses, to prove my point.
She also has a loss to Macy Chiasson on her record already, albeit from 2018. Chiasson was just 2-0 in her professional career back then, whilst Pannie was 10-3. It’s pretty shocking to say, but eight fights later and Kianzad is still arguably Chiasson’s best win, aside from Norma Dumont.
As Chiasson has evolved, she’s relied more on her grappling ability, landing 2.17 takedowns per 15 minutes. That ties in nicely against Kianzad, as that’s where she’s historically struggled (71% takedown defence is a bit of a skewed stat, it was still being exploited heavily by Vieira and Eubanks). It’s enough of a gap in skill that isn’t really present anywhere else in the contest, in my opinion.
So I expect this one to be a very competitive affair, and the potential grappling upside for Chiasson is pretty much the only thing I think that separates the two of them. Furthermore, Chiasson loses most of her fights via a finish, and Kianzad is a pretty unthreatening fighter, which makes this one seem a bit more comfortable for Macy compared to some of her previous opponents.
I think the -163 betting line I can currently see on Macy seems pretty accurate, as the advantages are there, but it’s nothing major that a win for Pannie would really surprise anyone. I’ve not really got any hot takes here, I’ve kind of just spent all these words explaining the matchmakers’ reasoning and saying I agree with it.
How I line this fight: Pannie Kianzad +163 (38%), Macy Chiasson -163 (62%)
Bet or pass: Pass
Prop leans: None, can’t even trust the trusty WMMA FGTD here.

Josh Culibao v Danny Silva
Josh Culibao ain’t that good. He’s committed and he’s tough, but you need a lot more than that to be a good fighter in MMA. Those tools can be good enough to beat a certain calibre at the bottom of the division, but you’ll come unstuck eventually.
I don’t know anything about Danny Silva. He’s got an 8-1 record and hasn’t fought a single person of note. So I have no idea where he sits in the UFC divisional pecking order.
Not sure how anyone can be confident in this one, this fight is an opportunity to find out more about Danny Silva, not one to lose money on.
How I line this fight: I didn’t do tape
Bet or pass: Pass
Prop leans: None

Thiago Moises v Mitch Ramirez
Late notice replacement for Thiago Moises, who goes from preparing to fight Brad Riddell, to fighting Mitch Ramirez. This one should simply be a squash match, where the well-rounded Moises gets to show off his great grappling and decent enough striking – whatever he fancies really. Moises had finally started showing some fight IQ and actually leaning on his high level grappling, instead of being a decision based fighter, which I was really enjoying seeing. The performance against Melq Costa specifically was refreshing to see. The most recent performance against BSD was obviously super disappointing, as I didn’t think we’d ever see someone steamroll Moises on the mat like that (even Dariush got shut down to basic closed guard striking for the most part). But to me that’s a testament to how good BSD really is. It’s probably his best performance to date (I wrote that sentence before the Poirier fight).
Ramirez on the other hand has fought bums, and all but two of his wins have come in under three minutes. Plenty of very obvious red flags on his side, in regards to competition and his ability to fight consistently across 15 minutes.
At the time of writing this, I haven’t seen a betting line, but I’m fully expecting Moises to be -600 at least. It would be justified, and if the books don’t go aggressive enough, I’ll probably bet a short price on Moises before the public forces it to that -600. I’m not afraid to pay a short price if the price has value.
How I line this fight: Thiago Moises -600 (86%), Mitch Ramirez +600 (14%)
Bet or pass: 5u Thiago Moises to Win (-400 or better)
Prop leans: Moises ITD also interesting

Ode Osbourne v Jafel Filho
Filho’s a good example of the UFC’s current matchmaking model – you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours. He came in to be sacrificed to Mokaev (gave a very good account of himself I thought), so they rewarded him with Juancamilo Ronderos, who is atrocious. That guy pulled out, so they dipped into the bargain bin and pulled out a regional fella. Filho hits the R1 submission and O.M.G we have a prospect…Sarcasm but that’s what the matchmakers will be trying to peddle.
It's easy to have a short memory as a UFC fan though, so if you’re considering putting Filho in your parlays I encourage you to watch that Barez fight back on Fight Pass, it’s only three minutes. What you’ll see is that his striking needs real work. He’s jittery and doesn’t really plant his feet properly, there’s definitely some technique issues visible, and he relies on his chin way too much. He got tagged pretty damn hard and dropped twice with body shots, and if Barez hadn’t have gassed getting excited and blowing his load too early, I think Filho definitely loses that one. Obviously the grappling is where he really shines, but I don’t think we’ll see him cut through every opponent that quick. It was because the Spaniard was gassed, Barez actually won more minutes than Filho. He’s on the fade list.
Personally I don’t understand how you can have Ode Osbourne as the underdog here, purely on skill alone. Ode’s clearly had his chance to put wins together and actually show himself to be a force, but he keeps dropping the ball and now the UFC are trying to cash out. He did it against Kelleher in his debut, did it against Tyson Nam…his record has too much wear and tear to be put on display, basically. That’s probably by they were so happy to let him take the Almabaev fight most recently.
I will say, Ode is a strange one though. He’s athletic, he’s got power, he’s got submissions…he’s not actually got a significant weakness in any area but cardio, so he’s one of those guys that I actually struggle to clearly see losing, despite the record looking shit. Kind of like a Charles Johnson.
If I was lining this fight purely on skill I’d say Ode gets slight favouritism at -125. However, the unreliability as well as the bad cardio are key red flags here, especially considering Ode thrives better as a finisher and less as a technical fighter, and Filo looks like a tough motherfucker.
So this one is complicated. I see a bit of value on Osbourne but he’s not the kind of guy I’d be comfortable risking it on, so I’m opting to pass instead. If you want to bet on this fight, I’d recommend taking the underdog…but I’m comfortable passing.
How I line this fight: Ode Osbourne +100 (50%), Jafel Filho +100 (50%)
Bet or pass: Pass
Prop leans: None

Christian Rodriguez v Isaac Dulgarian
The matchmakers absolutely hate C Rod, don’t they!? How can you go from Raul Rosas Jr, to Cameron Saaiman, to Isaac Dulgarian. These four names could well be in the top 5ers in a matter of years, and Rodriguez has had to run the gauntlet against them all. He’s 2-0 so far, and if he makes it three for three I think it’s time we started talking about him as a serious, serious prospect.
Isaac Dulgarian is one of those rare fighters whose reputation proceeds him. He’s 6-0 and already in the UFC, and aside from the debut win over Francis Marshall, his opponents’ combined record has been 12-8. Nothing at all to write home about, yet this guy’s seemingly really well known to a lot of hardcore MMA fans, and the fact that he’s currently a favourite against a man with the scalps of Raul Rosas Jr and Cameron Saaiman to his name shows how serious people are taking him.
Reason being, he comes from an extensive college wrestling background. We saw him use it to dominate Marshall, pinning him down and going to work with some great ground strikes until he forced his opponent to quit in the opening round. Dominant display, especially as a +150 underdog. Kudos to whoever was on that line, that’s one hell of a bet.
I went and re-read my breakdown for that fight, and I actually attempted to fade Dulgarian’s frantic R1 pace, thinking he might slow down and gas out after the crazy energy he brings to the opening round. He got the job done in the way that he needed to, so I lost my bet, but there are positive signs that the fade could still be on with that narrative, as Isaac still came hot out the gates there also.
I’m betting Christian Rodriguez here. I can’t necessarily justify it stylistically like I can with most bets, but I’ve got good vibes from backing Rodriguez as an underdog. At some point, the analysis has to go out the window and you have to acknowledge the experience and the unknowns. C-Rod has proven that he very well could be the next big thing at Flyweight…and we are getting the opportunity to bet him at + money against a 6-0 guy who hasn’t gotten out of round one.
There are so many “what ifs” for this fight, and they all conclude on doubt towards Isaac Dulgarian. What if he’s biting off way more than he can chew? What if he doesn’t have 15 minutes of cardio? What if he gets extended to R2 for the first time? What if he can’t land takedowns? These are all valid questions.
So I’m going to ask all those questions with my money. 2u on Christian Rodriguez to Win at +114, but I’m going to watch the line like a hawk and cash out if it trends the other way.
I bet C-Rod as a +200 dog against Raul Rosas, I’m a believer that he’s hella talented. So it’s up to Dulgarian to prove me wrong. If he does, colour me impressed…but I think long term it’s a good idea to be putting your money in spots like this. You could have done it with Jack Hermansson, you could have done it with Jairzinho Rozenstruik…perhaps you could do it with C-Rod.
How I line this fight: Honestly impossible to cap given how many unknowns there are with Dulgarian, but I don’t think you can conclude that C-Rod should be the dog
Bet or pass: 2u Christian Rodriguez to Win +115 or better)
Prop leans: None

Bryan Battle v Ange Loosa
EDIT on Tuesday: I've had a change of heart with this one since listening to some other opinions and rewatching more tape. I've edited the breakdown accordingly.
I’m still trying to figure out how I feel about Ange Loosa, I think. Looked phenomenal in the first half of the AJ Fletcher fight, but suddenly gets cracked and he’s out there doing all sorts of stanky leg. He’s really physical for the division and, despite not knowing where he was, he was still stuffing AJ Fletcher’s takedowns with ease (and AJ ain’t a bad grappler).
Loosa just seems like a C+ level everything, and it really doesn’t surprise me that he’s had his fair share of losses. However, that’s not always a bad thing, because it allows him to lean on certain attributes that he can use against opponents with weaknesses. In the case of AJ Fletcher, it was athleticism, takedown defence and cardio. In the case of Rhys McKee, it was everything. Despite him clearly being the better and more well-rounded MMA fighter on both occasions, he got himself hurt and almost dropped the ball from cruise control on both occasions, showing great toughness to fight through both. He also got absolutely destroyed on the feet by JDM, but we can't really blame hm/
Bryan Battle’s a guy I’ve always liked – he’s got a great frame for the division, has finishing ability via KO or submission, and offensively he’s just very well-rounded. My only issues with him are his patient striking approach, and his seemingly sub par takedown defence. Sometimes Battle looks like a lanky Derrick Lewis with the way he stands still with his hands up, shifting weight from one foot to the other and just staring square at his opponent…but just like Lewis he’s shown immense one punch KO ability, so I can’t really knock it too much.
They have a common opponent in AJ Fletcher, who demonstrated in the opening five minutes against Battle that he can be beaten on the feet, by closing the distance, not respecting his power, and having the superior volume. These are all things I think Ange Loosa could achieve, given the way he fought against Rhys McKee. However, the difference there is that Rhys doesn't really have too much in terms of one punch KO power, which allowed Loosa the confidence to come forward so aggressively.
I worry that Loosa is at a disadvantage in terms of finishing ability and general reliability here, as his cardio is also clearly inferior to Battle. Given the significance of damage and knockdowns in scoring these days, I think Ange will struggle to win fights against a certain level of UFC ability, simply because he is so prone to getting hurt. Sometimes the lack of finishes a guy suffers can lead us to falsely credit their chin (Robocop comes to mind), but there is solid proof that Loosa is a liability on the feet...and I think Battle can be trusted to make the difference with his power.
So whilst I initially thought this was a pick'em, I've since decided Battle has a massive gamechanger in terms of power, and that Loosa is stylistically in a tricky fight where he will struggle to find a place to be comfortable in. Yes Battle's got bad takedown defence, but I see him as the better grappler of the two and trust him to get back to his feet. A gameplan like that likely gasses Loosa out, and opting to trade with the harder hitter likely sees him come unstuck also.
Therefore, I think Battle should be a steeper favourite than he currently is here, around -200. I bet him for 2u at -150 as a result.
How I line this fight: Bryan Battle +100 (50%), Ange Loosa +100 (50%)
Bet or pass: 2u Bryan Battle to Win (-150)
Prop leans: None

Cory McKenna v Jaqueline Amorim
Jackie 1 round is back! Always find it interesting when she competes, given the fact she’s got this reputation for being a terrifying buzzsaw in the first five minutes, then completely falling apart. We actually saw her first successful venture outside of R1 in her last fight, but it was against Montserrat Ruiz who is atrocious and a literal warm body. The cardio narrative only works if you’re made to work hard, and Amorim definitely wasn’t. She styled on the Mexican for 14 whole minutes, even pulling guard and hitting a lovely sweep straight into full mount. Slick stuff.
She faces Cory McKenna, who is somewhat of a grappler in her own right. The little Welsh lady hasn’t fought in over a year, but we were starting to get a sense that she could well be a decent wrestler with the skills to confidently shut out a lot of the lower ranked women at Strawweight.
This will feel a bit like a familiar test for McKenna, who has already beaten the likes of Vanessa Demopoulos and Kay Hansen, who are two of the higher regarded BJJ players we’ve seen in WMMA in recent years. You can instantly see that Amorim is a cut above those two, obviously, but BJJ is a very limited skillset if your opponent is capable of dealing with it. We even saw that in the third round of Amorim’s win over Montserrat Ruiz. She pulled guard and lost most of the round, before hitting that sweep and Ruiz quit on herself.
If McKenna finds herself with top control (which I think it’s likely she does with her own wrestling ability and Amorim’s enthusiasm to pull guard) then I expect her to be able to shut down quite a few of the tricks that Amorim showed recently. Once those are off the table, Amorim’s going to look a bit feeble.
It’s still going to be a hairy first round for McKenna though, because a fresh Amorim is a very dangerous one, but I think this is one of the harder unranked matchups that Amorim could have been given to hit her already limited path to victory.
I saw the opportunity to bet McKenna at +100 here, and I took it for 2u. I know the dangers with Amorim and could even potentially try to hedge with her R1 prop, but I think McKenna can be trusted to fend off a pure BJJ threat, and the fight swings significantly in her favour if she makes it to the stool
How I line this fight: Cory McKenna -150 (60%), Jaqueline Amorim +150 (40%)
Bet or pass: 2u Cory McKenna to Win (+100)
Prop leans: Probably McKenna by Decision, but I’m not betting specifics when I can + on the ML
Live Betting Leans: Definitely look to live bet Cory if they get to the stool, especially if she’s been working Amorim hard. You’ll get a nice number for it.

Chad Anheliger v Charalampos Grigoriou
Always been very keen to fade Chad Anheliger. He’s rubbish, massively undersized for the weight class, has bad grappling, and has a serious case of T-Rex arms. If he can’t get into boxing range and throw heat, he’s not got much upside at all. I didn’t expect his UFC career to amount to anything when he got signed originally, but he’s now on a two fight losing streak and he’s 37 years old.
Charalampos Grigoriou makes his UFC debut. He’s 8-3 which isn’t impressive, and the calibre of opponents is probably even less of a good look. He was a +160 underdog to Cameron Smotherman on the Contender Series. We saw his power, but that finish came so quick that there’s not much else you can take from it.
Usually I’d draw the line there, but the -200 price to fade Anheliger was too tempting so I dug a bit deeper. I liked what I saw from his grappling and top control against Crisostomo (who obviously is awful), which adds another wrinkle to his game, but I did also really like what I saw from his striking. He throws with decent volume, using good combinations and different angles that clearly are tricky to deal with for his opponents.
Unfortunately he’s not got a massive size advantage over Chad here, which is the most comfortable angle I would want to see when trying to fade him…but I think Charalampos is deserving of his -200 price tag here.
I don’t however think there’s enough meat on the bone to force a big bet here though, as much as I want to go hard fading Anheliger one last time. Grigoriou has only fought cans in his MMA career really, so you have to pump the breaks on any good footage you see. He is unproven at this level outside of a very quick finish on DWCS, so it’s not enough for me to trust him to swing the hammer. However, I do like what I see so far, so I will be playing him for 2u at -175.
And since writing all that, I've decided to put another 2u on him in a parlay with Nzechukwu at -110, so maybe it is a big play after all.
How I line this fight: Chad Anheliger +250 (29%), Charalampos Grigoriou -250 (71%)
Bet or pass: 2u Charalampos Grigoriou to Win (-175 or better), 1u Grigoriou & Nzechukwu Both to Win (-110)
Prop leans: None

Gerald Meerschaert v Bryan Barberena
Pretty easy fight to write up here, all without doing tape. Gerald is incredibly flawed and is awful on the feet, but he’s awkward and a real threat in the grappling department so it leads a lot of guys to shit their pants and not fight him properly. They either dial down their output massively, or they swing for the fences with no set up (looking at you, Andre Petroski).
Bryan Barberena can throw hands and obviously hits pretty hard, but he’s frail in the twilight of his career and cannot defend a grappling threat to save his life.
Pick your poison, right? Does Barberena keep it standing and starch Gerald, or does GM3 show his crafty veteran savvy for the hundredth time against an opponent that should give him a path to victory on a platter.
Kind of a hard one to call but I think you should slightly lean towards Meerschaert. He’s still showing signs of being able to cope on the feet against some guys, whereas Bryan is completely incapable of grappling defence since his motorbike accident a few years ago (he used to have pretty admirable takedown defence like five years ago, you know!).
But, having said that, the idea of betting on a fighter as flawed and clunky as GM3 at a minus number is enough to make me want to register at a mental asylum, so I obviously won’t be doing it at all. You shouldn’t either.
Since writing that, GM3 has moved from -150 to -200, which I think is insane. That’s serious juice on Gerald. But I still am not that keen on playing Barberena. I'll keep it small and go 0.75u on the Moneyline at +230, as well as 0.25u on Barberena to Win & Under 2.5 Rounds at +500
How I line this fight: Gerald Meerschaert -125 (56%), Bryan Barberena +125 (44%)
Bet or pass: 0.75u Bryan Barberena to Win (+230), 0.25u Baberena to Win & Under 2.5 Rounds (+500)
Prop leans: Either GM3 SUB or Barberena KO, obviously

Josiane Nunes v Chelsea Chandler
Nice to see Chelsea Chandler back. I’ve still got fond memories of betting 4u on Norma Dumont at -120 against her last time. Watching her run across the entire cage when she realised she had no hands was hilarious.
I said it then and I’ll say it again, she’s not good at anything. Her striking is poor, and her wrestling relies solely on physicality to bully her opponent. It worked against armbar-or-bust Julija Stoliarenko, but that’s not really saying much is it. She’s 33 years old too, and seems to have gone quiet on all social medias since she lost that Dumont fight.
So how does Josiane Nunes stack up against her? Well firstly she’s one of the more dangerous strikers in WMMA at the moment. She’s got power in her hands and has 7 KOs from 10 wins, which is insane for WMMA standards. She even landed two knockdowns in one of those decisions. Also, like Jessica Andrade, the queen of WMMA KOs…she’s massively undersized for the division.
She’s 5’2, whilst Chandler is 5’8. It’s not always a big issue, but Nunes has shown grappling deficiencies in her brief UFC career so far, against the very low level but physically superior Ramona Pascual. Ramona couldn’t stop herself from getting pieced up on the feet, but she did find three takedowns against Nunes, where we saw the Brazilian be a bit too keen to play guard. Something you never like to see unless you’re super good at BJJ. Nunes doesn’t even have a submission win.
So whilst I clown Chandler for not being very good, her grappling game compliments the size advantage she has, and could well be good enough to get her the win here. Of course, on the feet she’s going to be at a big disadvantage.
Overall I agree with this one being lined quite close, but I’d have expected Nunes to be a shorter favourite here, given the consistent demonstrations of power and the way fights are scored these days. Personally I’d have her about -175, as I can see the path to victory for Chandler. Given that I’m currently seeing -137, that’s only a 5% gap and only on the cusp of being considered value. As much as I love WMMA, I’m going to opt to pass on this occasion. I don’t mind a bet on Nunes though, if you’re happier for a bit more risk.
How I line this fight: Josiane Nunes -175 (64%), Chelsea Chandler +175 (36%)
Bet or pass: Pass
Prop leans: None

The Kurdish Mahmudi tribe, Ezidism, pre-Islamic Ezidi architecture
The Mahmudi, also known as Pinyanişi, were rulers of a Kurdish principality that ruled 𝙑𝙖𝙣, 𝙃𝙖𝙠𝙠𝙖𝙧𝙞, & 𝙆𝙝𝙤𝙮 from 14th-19th century. They originally followed Ezidism & became Muslim in the 16th century. In 17th century, Evliya Çelebi reports that this tribe had 60,000 warriors.
He describes them in the following manner: “𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙤𝙣, 𝙛𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙨𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙞𝙨𝙩, 𝙙𝙖𝙜𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙙, 𝙥𝙞𝙚𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙮, 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙞𝙩.”
According to Şerefxan Bedlîsî, Mahmudîs shared same lineage as Marwanids & Azizan dynasty of Bohtan, also originally adherents of Ezidism. The founder of Mahmudi dynasty, Şêx Mehmûd, migrated eastwards from Bohtan, to near Urmia region with other Ezidi tribes in 14th century.
The castles of 𝙓𝙤𝙨̧𝙖𝙗 (Hoşap) & 𝘼𝙨𝙝𝙪̂𝙩 were given to Şêx Mehmûd & his family by the Qara Koyunlu Turkmen who ruled the region at the time.
In 1550, when the Mahmudî chief Hasan Beg bin Iwaz adopted Islam after allying with Ottomans, consequently, the tribe was islamized. Some sections who refused to convert, lived in isolation from their tribe to avoid persecution & migrated later on to Caucasus with other Ezidis.
Their 17th century chief, Sarı Suleyman Bey, is accredited for upgrading and building the most of today's famous and iconic castle in Hoşap (Güzelsu), Van. Hoşap is full of Mahmudî architecture, which contain pre-Islamic Ezidi elements.
For example, above the entrance of Silêman Beg's mausoleum in Hoşap, there is a hexagon star with a six-petal flower in the middle, similar to the one in Lalish which in Ezidism is a fertility related symbol.
In addition, the eastern window in Silêman Beg mausoleum is decorated whereas the other windows are plain. This increased importance and emphasis on the eastern wall can be a possible remnant of Ezidi tradition, as Ezidis pray east when the sun rises in the east every morning.
Moreover, at the Madrasa of Evliya Beg, the diagonal walls on the interior of the octagonal room with a dome contain deep rectangular niches that are rare for a prayer hall in Islamic architecture, but very common for Ezidi mausoleums

2024.01.01 22:04 M1chaelLanz Unqualified Space Chapter 10

Cam gave one last look over his uniform while he stood at her door. Nothing was out of place, except him. In two days, he went from an incompetent engineer to a well dressed bodyguard. It hadn't fully dawned on him the position he was in, but there was no going back.
"Here goes nothing." Cam raised his hand to knock on the door when it opened for him. He jumped a little from the sudden opening, but no one was there. Did I just open this? Cam peeked his head inside. He took a few cautious steps in and announced himself to the empty room. "Hello? Is anyone here?"
Captain Tarkey bumped around in her room until she leaned out of her bedroom doorway wearing nothing more than her pants and white lacy bra. She fought her reflex to cover her chest, since she was not used to being so exposed in front of a man. The plan was to be breezy, instead of what her sister suggested.
"I'm just getting ready. Please make yourself comfortable," Captain Tarkey said and went back into her room. From the shelter of her room, her smile grew. She saw his face flush red, despite his gentlemanly attempt to avert his eyes. "Maybe Vani is right. I am sexy."
What Cam was thinking was not quite the same. I feel like a pervert. She's getting dressed and I'm here invading her space. I should just wait outside. The door closed as he turned to leave. He waved his hand and it didn't budge. "How does this even work?"
"What was that?" Captain Tarkey asked from her room, unable to make out what he said.
"I said you have a nice place." Cam picked up a strange metallic doohickey. It had five spires intersecting at the middle of a round bronze ball. He didn't know how it worked or what it did, but it looked neat.
"Thanks! Just one of the perks of commanding my own ship," she said, finishing the buttons on her uniform. "You excited for your first day?"
"You could say that," Cam said and after pulling on one of the spires, the whole thing unraveled. In a panic, he tried to gather the pieces and put them back together. Two of the five went back in, but the others resisted. Way to go, now you're breaking her stuff.
Captain Tarkey was oblivious to Cam's plight, adding a spritz of perfume to the nape of her neck. She smoothed out her uniform and admired herself in the mirror. Her confidence was building by the second.
"You got this. The first day of many. Make it count," Captain Tarkey said to herself.
"Hey, is Mr. Sexy there yet? Did you try out the bra thing?" Vani said from the communicator that was left on the couch.
Captain Tarkey became a petrified ferret for a few seconds. She was already being torpedoed and had yet to begin courting him. There was little time to waste if she was going to salvage this situation. She walked out of her room, checking on Cam's reaction first. He smiled with his hands behind his back.
"I'm sorry about my sister. She doesn't have much of a filter."
I wasn't listening, what did she say? Something about bras? Damn, these spikes hurt. "That's okay, siblings are like that. I get it."
"One second," Captain Tarkey gave him an apologetic smile and went over to pick up her communicator. "Vani, can you please be professional over the comms?"
"He is there, isn't he?"
"He most certainly is. I'm sure he would rather be referred to by his rank, Petty Officer Cassidy," Captain Tarkey smiled at him.
I'm an…officer? I wonder what other perks it comes with? Cam mused to himself silently waiting for the ladies' conversation to end.
"I'm your sister, I think I should be promoted before him."
"You want to be my bodyguard?"
"And spend every second around you? I love you, sis, but not that much," Vani said. "Good luck Cam. Don't let her boss you around too much."
Captain Tarkey shook her head and stowed the communicator deep into the couch cushions. Her sister never failed to embarrass her, but she was confident Cam didn't look too far into it.
"You two seem to get along," Cam said.
"We have our moments," Captain Tarkey said. She paid more attention to him, noticing he was fidgeting with something behind his back. "What are you hiding?"
Cam sighed and hung his head low. He revealed the broken object. It was a monument to his shame.
"I broke it…whatever it is."
Captain Tarkey giggled, taking it from him. "I got this from a queen on Beesmar. I have no idea what it is either."
"A queen? Do you often meet with royalty?"
"I don't. Only reason I met her was to accept a gift on Captain Tilhan's behalf."
"What did he do?"
"Not sure, but knowing him, he didn't do it out of the kindness of his heart." Captain Tarkey tossed the item in a nearby trash bin. "I don't think he'll miss this thing anyways. He prefers gold."
"I prefer gold to a porcupine as well."
They both laughed, relaxing in each other's company. Captain Tarkey wanted to enjoy the moment, but the bridge needed her attention. They would be hailing her soon if she didn't get a move on.
"We better get going."
"Lead the way, Banyani."
And lead she did. She strutted out of her place with pride. It was her time to show him what she was like on the job. Men liked confidence in a woman. The same kind her stride emitted when her shoes clicked on the floor. Any passerby noticed her, or less importantly, the new face of her security team. Hushed tones traveled through the halls, carrying rumors and speculation, some of which were correct by accident. Captain Tarkey cut the noise out, opting to strike up more conversation.
"Seems like you are popular today," Captain Tarkey said, still looking straight ahead.
"They are probably looking at your braid. It is shinier than normal." Cam tried to assure himself it wasn't him they were all staring at, even though it was obvious.
"Thank you for noticing. I tried a new shampoo. It smells great!"
Eh, I could take it or leave it. "Is there anything I should be doing when I get to the bridge?"
"I will leave that up to you. I trust you."
"You trust too easy."
"Then it's up to you to root out anyone I shouldn't trust, isn't it?" Captain Tarkey swiped the bridge door open and they both went in.
The bridge brought Cam back to the days of watching sci-fi shows on TV. It was an octagonal design, with a station for two people on each wall. They all wore white uniforms, much like the Captain, except they had a lone colored stripe on the front along the button line and top of the shoulders. The colors were different between crew members to designate their role on the bridge.
"Captain on deck!" Borgan announced, moving aside for Captain Tarkey and Cam to come in.
Everyone stood up from their stations and saluted. All eyes were on them. Captain Tarkey went to the center of the room, where a throne worthy of a captain was waiting unoccupied. Cam followed more hesitantly, not wanting to attract more attention than needed.
"Situation Report," Captain Tarkey said, prompting the helms woman in front of her to speak. She was a red haired Hiloran who was ready to answer.
"We are on course. No obstructions or other ship activity ahead."
Captain Tarkey turned her head to the right. There was a male Hiloran paired with a female Jeltan to monitor weapons systems.
"Weapons systems nominal," the Hiloran said.
"Defenses? Life support?" Captain Tarkey called out, looking in the opposite direction.
Cam was trying to follow it all as she kept going around the room asking the crew of the status of the system they took care of. When the room wasn't answering her questions, their eyes drifted over to him. It was unnerving for Cam and mildly distracting to Captain Tarkey, forcing her to address it.
"I can see all of you must be wondering why we have another member in our ranks." She gestured to Cam. "This is my personal security officer, Petty Officer Cassidy. He will be joining us on a regular basis, so please feel free to introduce yourselves when time allows. And with that, let's get back to work everyone."
Most turned around to work at their stations. Captain Tarkey went over to talk to her helms woman, while Cam was approached by a giddy, Mentaran who smelt faintly of popcorn.
"Hello, Petty Officer Cassidy. Welcome to the bridge, or as I like to call it, The Place Where The Magic Happens," the blonde Mentaran said. "My name is Carsha. I monitor the life support systems over there."
"Nice to meet you," Cam put his hand out to shake and she enthusiastically shook it. She reminded him of an excitable dog when meeting new people. "You have quite the handshake."
"I sure do!" She then stopped. "Do you want me to give you a tour?"
"Umm…I don't see why not." Cam punctuated with raising his shoulders.
"Yay! Let me introduce you to everyone!" She spun him around to the back where a lone Klendaran was hunched over at his station. "This is Glen. He handles the shields. He's not a talker. Kind of lives in his own little bubble."
Carsha pointed out her station next to him and then went over to weapon systems. "That is Ollie and Wallie. They are a cute couple."
Cam noticed Ollie's tentacles were limp over the station, except for one that rested on Wallie's lap. She didn't move much at all, while Wallie did most of the work, whatever they were doing.
"Ollie doesn't move too fast, does she?" Cam asked.
"She blind and mute, but communicates to him through her tentacle. That's why her tentacles are laying all over the console. It is her way of seeing."
"Are all Jeltan's like that?"
"Blind? No. Just her," Carsha said and lowered her voice. "Although, between you and me, she has used that excuse more than once to get a little extra handsy with Wallie. I don't like to gossip, but one time I heard they did the nasty on the bridge."
So much for not gossiping… "Who else is here?"
"Oh yes, then there is the Notie twins, Venzen and Zenzen. They handle ship-to-ship communications." Carsha pointed out the two young male O'Hairens.
"Among other things," Venzen winked at her. "Nice to meet you, Petty Officer Cassidy. You're a human, right?"
"Yeah, last I checked," Cam said and Zenzen came up to him.
"I never knew there was a position available," Zenzen said.
"There wasn't. She hired me on the spot."
"What are you supposed to do?" Venzen asked.
"When I find out, I'll let you know."
The twins laughed, getting the attention of Captain Tarkey. She noticed far too many gathered around him when they should be working.
"Venzen. Zenzen. Did you get yesterday's transcriptions sent off?" Captain Tarkey asked.
They both pointed to each other and looked at her. Clearly that was a no.
"How about you both work on it?" Captain Tarkey said and addressed Carsha. "I think I'll take over the tour from here."
"Ohhh, but I haven't introduced him to Allana. They would be such a cute couple!" Carsha begged.
Captain Tarkey wasn't going to let Carsha play matchmaker with her man. She ushered Carsha toward her station. "Don't worry, he'll get to meet everyone soon enough."
"Bye Cassidy!" Carsha waved goodbye, giving Cam a chance to fully absorb everything.
"Sorry about her. She loves meeting new people," Captain Tarkey said, moving their conversation to the chair in the middle. "How are you holding up?"
"Okay so far. It's a lot to take in," Cam admitted.
"First days always are." She tapped away at some buttons on the armrest of her chair. "Can I get your opinion on something?"
Cam nodded and a small hologram emitted from the armrest. It was of Captain Tarkey sparring with Sergeant Andid. She was holding her own well, dodging strikes and following up with her own. He was struggling to keep up until he tackled her to the ground. Once her back hit the mat, she was done for. Pinned in seconds.
"What can I do to improve my ground defense?" Captain Tarkey asked.
Cam had no idea. Wrestling always confused him. His grasp on any hand to hand combat was mostly acquired from movies, which would likely get him killed in a life or death scenario. I break a guy's hand by accident and now I'm the expert. Is this a test? Best not say too much.
"I find it easier to not get to the ground to begin with. You were doing better on your feet."
"That's why I need to improve my weaknesses. You must've saw something I could improve on."
She is not going to let it go. Gotta give her something. What is a key thing in fighting? Movement? Sure, why not.
"When you hit the ground, keep moving. Don't let him outmaneuver you."
"You might have to show me some time," Captain Tarkey said. Her tone was much more soft, teetering on flirty. Vani would've demanded better, but she had a reputation to uphold. Before she could get sucked into a daydream of what it would be like to be pinned by him, the deck required her attention.
"Captain, I am picking up a ship ahead of us," Zenzen said.
"Put it on the display," Captain Tarkey ordered, going right into Captain mode. She sat down in her chair and took a look at the large wall display in front of her.
The ship in question was a Jennis-class cargo ship. This class of ship had crews no bigger than twenty and were typically used for small to medium cargo runs to nearby planets or space stations. The wall displayed the rusted boxy ship, along with flight metrics. What stood out to Captain Tarkey was not the ratty appearance or slow movement, but the location. They were not scheduled to pass any cargo routes nor were they near another planet, except for Ohar.
"We are being hailed, Captain," Venzen said.
"Sent it through."
The display changed to a muffin. Yes, a muffin. It was of the blueberry variety and had an adorable smiling face. The muffin spun like a loading screen.
"Who has been messing with the loading animation?" Captain Tarkey asked the deck.
Nobody confessed to the delightful digital defacement, but as Cam looked around, he saw the guilty party. Carsha's eyes darted back and forth and her lips pursed like a happy woodland critter. Her antics were innocent. Cam respected that. And blueberry muffins.
The muffin teased the crew for a few seconds more before the feed came in. If you asked Cam, the alien on the feed resembled an actual muffin, but without the cute face. This alien had random hairs coming out of his puffy face. His teeth were stained yellow and filed down evenly. The rest of the body was hidden from view, but Cam figured the alien weighed over three hundred pounds if the face was anything to go by.
"Hello, is this a Galactic Planets vessel?" the alien asked.
"This is Captain Tarkey of the Uktan Five–"
Cheers came from the crew on the other end, cutting her off. The alien turned his head around. "Okay everyone, get back to work."
Captain Tarkey was caught off guard by the interaction. She watched some aliens in the background leave, but the alien hailing her didn't turn his head back to her.
"Sir?" Captain Tarkey said.
The alien waited for the door to close before turning around. "I have an urgent message to give you. Please meet me onboard my ship."
"We will bring you in–"
"No! You can't! My ship cannot be taken in. I have security measures in place to prevent capture."
Captain Tarkey knew what that meant. It was an uncommon practice, but there was a time when cargo vessels attached explosives set to detonate if the vessel had been captured or boarded forcefully. The practice was never banned due to the complexity of implementation and exceedingly low incidents involving such vessels. That didn't mean today couldn't be different.
Captain Tarkey muted herself and turned to her left, addressing two crew members Cam hadn't met yet. "Scan the ship. Let's make sure he is telling the truth." She then unmuted and returned to the conversation. "Please identify yourself."
"My name is Haggar Hortrune. I am a loyal citizen of the Galactic Planets and have sensitive information I need to give you."
"What is this information?"
"I cannot say over this channel. The information is too sensitive. You must meet me here."
He seemed earnest in his conviction, but Captain Tarkey's instincts told her something was off. She looked back at her crew who were scanning the ship. They confirmed Haggar's statement, leaving her with limited options. Protocol for boarding a vessel in this specific scenario was to launch a craft smaller than the one they were boarding. Their craft needed to dock with the vessel, instead of using alternative breaching techniques. It made launching an assault near impossible, forcing peaceful interactions.
Captain Tarkey's other option was to let it go. There was no expectation of intervening, nor were they committing any crimes. It would be the safer move on, but what if it wasn't the right move? Haggar's information could be vital to The Galactic Planets. If she ignored it, what knowledge would be lost? She pondered the ramifications of going to meet Haggar until one thought convinced her entirely. Or really one person.
"Very well. I will see you soon," Captain Tarkey said and stood up. "Lieutenant Commander Smiles, you have the deck."
Captain Tarkey made her way to the door when Borgan went up to her. "Captain, you can't go there alone. It is rigged to blow."
"You heard their crew cheering. They won't kill themselves on account of me." Captain Tarkey patted Borgan on the shoulder. "And besides, I have a new security detail. I won't be alone."
Cam gulped, following her out the door. He waited for no one to be within earshot to speak his mind.
"Banyani, why are we doing this? Can we have someone else do it? I mean, you're the captain."
"Sometimes a captain needs to be the one to do the work. Thankfully though, I have you to help me."
Yeah, but who is going to help me?

2023.12.31 01:02 0ctach0r0n I am well and responding to treatment nowadays but this was my experience before.

I would spend long hours in my bathroom because I had one that had no windows in the house where I was living at the time. When I was in this state I would need to crawl under the windows when walking around the house.
I was convinced my landlord had a laboratory underneath the house that he was using to experiment on me through a camera in the mirror in the bathroom. Sometimes I could hear him discussing this from beneath the ground, with my family and friends.
During these times the water running in the tap used to sound like small pieces of metal dropping on to the porcelain, and the bird song sounded electronic, as if the birds outside were all robots.
My house was under surveillance by Satanists and I used to find offerings of meat they had left outside the house in octagonal bowls every morning. When they came to leave them they would signal to me by banging on the bins outside the house.
They were using the hotel where I worked to harness my thoughts to use to fuel the magic powers of the building that were operated by sigils on the roof connected to different burial sites around the city.

2023.11.28 10:52 canyourepeatquestion 3PLs that are flat-fee, equipped for e-commerce and located in the Midwest?

So currently I'm located in the Midwest (nearest city is Omaha, NE) but I'm set to move into the Denver area soon. I've got a death pile of TVs and printers and since I'm with family for the holidays I figured it might as well be shipped off to a 3PL proper, I've been in conflict with my folks who disapprove of me using my living space despite me explaining the tax writeoff aspect. Small business so I'm not big on high storage fees every month, I want the stuff liquidated fast. The place can charge $20 every time an item sells, I just want the warehouse to work on a per-fee business until my business can scale proper. Low-volume but high-SKU. Think HP Officejet 8710 and 7710. Have a wooden cabinet TV like this: https://thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/images1/467/0321/30/rca-television-emerson-flat-screen-tv_467_2ee6fe3d5b71550ef4b13f5d1d1148dd.jpg
Calculated my inventory takes up 400 ft3. Not interested in doing the octagonal bulk bin stuff. The antique TVs throw me off since my business does an excellent killing on them (actually set to send one out today), but I imagine a lot of the 3PLs here deal with high-volume low-SKU in-box stuff.
What 3PLs are closest to where I'm at currently? I've worked with XPO Logistics before but usually with LTL. Since I don't want to palletize everything I just want to go with regular truckload and I want to minimize the fee when it comes to distance when I send it to the warehouse. I have to move fast. Suggestions?

2023.11.24 02:19 Jasper371 [WTS] 🦃🦃🦃 Gold Grams, Mardi Gras Doubloons, Vintage Silver, NEW Gram Cases, Cheap Supplies, and FREE STERLING Addons!🦃🦃🦃

Proof Photo
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Got some new stuff for ya today, and giving away some pieces for free to the first few people that buy something and get it paid for. Also be sure to check out the bottom of the post for CHEAP PM related supplies.

🍽️🍽️🍽️ 1 Free Item w/ First 5 Orders 🍽️🍽️🍽️
Sterling Freebies. First 4 orders can pick 1 item from what's pictured to get for free. Ford Coin, Carter Coin, Cowboy Charm, Ski-Lift Charm available. There's also a Mercury Dime in a base metal bezel that I forgot to take a picture of.

🌟🌟🌟 Gold Grams 🌟🌟🌟

  1. Valcambi Gold Grams. Everyone's favorite low premium gold Gram. Each order comes with 1 free gram holder(That's one per order, not 1 per gram). $6 over melt as of posting, $70 each. 16 2 available.
  2. Sunshine Minting 1 Gram Gold. Little Sunshine Minting bar in a tiny capsule. $70

🚀🚀🚀 Vintage Bars and MORE 🚀🚀🚀

  1. Cascade Refining 25.16oz Bar. Born on 10/01/1982. Cascade Refining made some beautiful bars and this is one of the nicer ones I've seen. I recently realized prices on these came down quite a bit so here's your chance to snag one cheap. $750
  2. Augustus Humbert $50 California Gold tributue 1oz Silver Octagon Slug. Serial N02815. Stunning vintage silver piece, this is the last one I own and finally selling it to cover some other purchases. $100
  3. Hamilton Mint Art Bars. Wonders of America series. Beautiful artwork on the front, and a little bit of history on the back. $27 each. Redwood sold
  4. 1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar. Great looking coin, and a semi-key date or so I'm told. Honestly I'm not much of a Morgan collector and this one is sort of wasted on me. Coin has decent luster and looks great in person, tried to get pictures from multiple angles. $50
  5. 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar. Another good looking Morgan. Possible signs of old cleaning, but you be the judge. $40
  6. Silver Mardi Gras Doubloons. The common aluminum Mardi Gras Doubloon was invented in 1959 by H Alvin Sharpe and first seen in the festival of 1960. You can read more about that here. As you know, these are typically struck in aluminum so that they don't hurt people in the crowd. Small numbers are sometimes minted in .999 fine silver to be given to members of the Krewe's and other important folks. I've been collecting these tokens for the past year but I'm really trying to downsize to just a few artists. The weights on these vary quite a bit, so for simplicity sake I'm putting them at $1 per gram. The top row are all 30-32 grams, middle row 26-28 grams, bottom row 23-26 grams. Babylon/Carrolton/Dragon sold
  7. Sterling Post Office Coin. Historic Cable car from 1971. Listing at melt but if it doesn't sell I'll just give it to my local Postmaster for Christmas. $18
  8. 2014 Suns of Liberty Mint 1oz. Love these squares from SOLM. $40
  9. Suns of Liberty Mint 1/4oz. .25 class from SOLM. $12
  10. 1984 National Happy Easter 1oz bars. Really cute art on these. $30 each. 3 2 available.
  11. Coin Palace Too Pegasus Rounds. I think Coin Palace was a casino in Vegas but I'm not a degenerate gambler, just a regular one so what do I know. Milk spotting present. $30 each. 3 2 available.
  12. Sunshine Mining Silvers. ~~1986 and 1987, pretty close to when they changed their name. $28 each.
  13. World Wide Mint Eagle BaRound. WWM is sort of under rated in my opinion. The engraving work on their dies was pretty good, especially for the time period. $28 each.
  14. Gold Resource Corporation 2010 1oz Round. Cool little tribute round. The production on these is more recent than my normal fare but they still seem quite scarce. $32
  15. 2011 Canada Maple Leaf Toners. Definitely not BU. Probably the opposite. Whats the opposite of Brilliant Uncirculated? Unremarkable Circulated? $27 each. $53 for the pair.
  16. Mexico Wash Peso's. $2 each. 24 9 available.
  17. Trump / Biden Heads or Tails 1oz Round. Featuring both our 45th and 46th presidents. That's 2 leaders for the price of one folks. Probably one of the more flattering depictions of Biden I've seen this year as well. $29
  18. Sterling Cat and Kitty Ring. Little under a size 7. 4.46 grams. $7
  19. Pendant with some jacked dude choke-holding a dog or something. I wanna say this weighs like 20 grams but I'll edit the post in a little bit. $25
  20. Tiffany & Co. 925 Streamerica Business Card Holder. Live out your American Psycho business card fantasy with this amazing vintage Card Holder. These seem to sell for around $350 in mint condition. This old girl has some patina and some small dents. Opens smoothly and lid closes tight. $200

🪄🌋✨ Jasper's Frosty Pours n More ✨🌋🪄

Larger bars feature the Leidenfrost Effect, and you may notice it on some of the smaller ones as well. Silver for these pours is sourced from .999 fine silver bars/rounds/Shot. Weights are taken on a RCBS reloading scale that is accurate to +/- 0.1 grain and then rounded down to the nearest gram. Some bars may have a very small amount of flux on the surface and I'm actively improving my methods to reduce this to zero.
  1. 1oz Silver Muffins. Fresh out of the oven. Some may actually identify as cupcakes. Last one for now. $30
  2. 1oz Bootleg USVI A-Mark Chunky Ingots. These were some of my first 1oz pours since I wanted to do smaller sizes for people on a budget. $26 each. 4 available.
  3. Serial #005, 39.5 Pennyweights. DWT bar is lingering in my possession but that's totally fine because I like it. The last bit of silver from the crucible fell into the mold at the same time the surface was about to cool and solidify creating a splash crater. Not something I could repeat even if I tried. If you're too lazy to use google this is somewhere around 61 grams. $60
  4. Serial #017, 54 Grams. With this bar its evident that I started to run out of gas and was also low on silver. Has a fun shape to it and lots of character though, so decided to keep out of the melt bin. $51

🗄️🗄️🗄️ Supplies 🗄️🗄️🗄️
  1. Cases for 1 Gram Valcambi Gold Bars. I wanted a way to store Valcambi gold grams so I went looking. I found some very nice options, but they carried a premium price tag and it didn't seem worth it to me. I designed these and after some printing and testing, I'm at a point where I feel comfortable with them. Available in multiple colors and styles, and sized to fit inside an AirTite 1oz bar capsule. (Do note that due to the somewhat variable size in Grams from Combi-Bars, some bars may fit somewhat snug.) $5 w/ capsule.
  2. Assorted Used Capsules. Various sizes and condition. Each coin you buy can come in one for free, or $1 for 6. Only white ring capsules remain.
  3. 6 Whitman Dime Tubes. Bit of tape residue on them but should still serve their purpose. $2 for all 6.
  4. CoinSafe 1oz Bar Tubes. Brand new condition. The best way to store 1oz bars in my opinion. $3 each. 3 2 available.

Shipping will be $5 for First Class Ground Advantage and $10 for Priority in the US. Tracking included, insurance costs extra. I highly prefer Zelle and Paypal F&F (NO NOTES), but I also have Venmo and CashApp. I am not currently taking trades unless you have some old stuff from H Alvin Sharpe or maybe South American silver bars.

2023.11.20 02:30 NitroCellularData Class Trial 72: Meta

Hey everyone, Hypno here. I hope you had fun engaging with the trial. I had a lot of fun hosting it and getting to watch all the performances. I'll go ahead and break down the murder plan in full now as well:
Before lunch, Himiko acquired extra rigid licorice from the vending machine on the third floor of Grape House after finishing jumping rope with the others. During the brief window she had alone for cleanup, she used her skills as a magician to conceal a portion of the rope on her person, then deposited the remainder in the dining hall trash. At lunch, she then quietly convinced Gonta to try some of the fizzy lifting drinks in the tower with her later that afternoon at 2pm. From there, she went to get her hands on the needed drinks, but had to claim to head back to her room because of the others who were present there after lunch. Almost immediately after they left, Himiko went back and grabbed 4 fizzy lifting drinks, two strawberry and 1 of the other two. She met with Gonta in the tower at 2pm and gave him one of the strawberry drinks, pretending to drink from a grape one as well. After Gonta ingested the drink and began to float, the Himiko kicked his legs out from under him, causing them to rise above his head, able to do so because the anti-gravity effects of the drink effectively made Gonta helpless. She then wraped rigid licorice around his neck and hardeded it by dousing it with grape fizzy lifting drink (this made the green puddle) then stuck the end of the licorice it to the wall of the tower. As Gonta’s body floated up after already being propelled by Himiko, he was strangled by the licorice.
After managing to get what she could of the licorice off the wall, (leaving a sticky spot behind) Himiko then drank the remaining strawberry Fizzy lifting drink and used more licorice as a sticky rope attached to the wall to guide a flight up the lift with Gonta’s body tow and entered into the 1st floor of Strawberry House. However, Gonta’s body was quickly becoming heavier as the lifting drink wears off and it was becoming too heavy for Himiko to move around. She opted to dump Gonta’s body in the nearby elevator and retrieved explosive candy from the Octagon, which she then use to blow Gonta’s body in two at the torso, cauterizing it in the process, along with intentional destroying the elevator control panel in order to hopefully delay the discovery of the body as much as possible. Himiko then took the now lighter upper half of Gonta’s body and accidentally uses the Mysterious Monokuma Machine in the Final Dead Room to turn the body and the 3 empty cans of fizzy lifting drink into brown-colored candies wrapped in plastic, resulting in the concealment of the strangulation marks and disposal of some evidence. She had figured that the machine's bin would be a good place to hide part of the body, not knowing its true function.
Thinking quickly, Himiko unwraped the candies and mixed them with the exploding candy in the octagon bins to try to hide them. Then, she downed another fizzy lifting drink and use it and licorice to float/pull themselves back down to the first floor of Grape house. (This travel between floors using the licorice as a way to direct their flight path was what left the remaining two sticky spots.) She ate the soft portion of the licorice and then stuck her way upstairs, only managing to pass Sakura and Mondo because the former was busy observing the latter, and the latter was investigating the walls. Unable to get to her room, she opted instead to go to the dining hall, but was forced to pass Ryoma to do so. In the dining hall, she disposed of the empty can and plastic wrappers in a trash bin.
Did you enjoy participating in this Trial? Why or why not?

Monokuma File
Gonta’s torso and legs were found in the elevator at Strawberry House by Mikan and Kaede at 5:55pm. The upper portion of his body has not been located. According to the results of Mikan's autopsy, the top of the torso appears to have been severed erratically and is cauterized. There are scorch marks on the floor of the elevator around Gonta’s torso. Neither the cause of death nor time of death can be determined. Body Visual
Mysterious Monokuma Machine
It’s got sugar and spice and nothing at all nice! Well, you don’t really know for sure…All you can say is it’s big, boxy, has a bunch of indecipherable gages, pumps, dials, meters, and vents. along with two openings: a large bin that can be tilted open via a handle, and a small tube. It is located in the Final Dead Room, on the 1st floor of Strawberry House.
Exploding Candy
For your enemies. Plenty of gel ignitor in these bright yellow little balls. Explodes when enough kinetic force is applied. They are stored in large bins in the Octagon. Additional information
Fizzy Lifting Drinks
They’ll put more than a spring in your step! When consumed, they’ll allow you to float as though you were in zero-gravity with an upward force applied. Comes in Strawberry (Red), Grape (Green) and Des-Pear (Black) flavors! They are available at a bar on the first floor of Grape House. Their effects last for about 15 minutes, and weaken over time to ensure a safe landing.
Rigid Licorice
This specialty red licorice starts out flexible, but gains extreme tensile strength and stickiness after being exposed to moisture other than saliva. Available from specialty vending machines on the third floor of Grape House. It is dispensed in 3ft lengths.
Tower Lift Music
The lift in the tower has been configured with a sound system that plays a jaunty, yet sinister, tune whenever the lift is in motion, along with a series of lights and frightful images projected onto the walls. This can be heard from the first floor of each house. It will only function after 7:50am.
Colorful Puddle
There is a greenish puddle on the far side of the tower lift.
Sticky Spots
There are 3 sticky spots on the walls of the central tower. Two are near the far side of the room on the first floor of Grape House, and one is close to the door on the first floor of Strawberry House.
Funhouse Elevator
The inside of the elevator has been soundproofed by Monokuma, preventing sound from getting in or out when its doors are closed. Additionally, it will not run until nighttime is over at 7:50am.
Elevator Control Panel The control panel inside the elevator has been destroyed, rendering the elevator non-functional. There are scorch marks around the panel.
The Final Dead Room
The Final Dead Room has been massively renovated to accommodate the Mysterious Monokuma Machine. As such, its completion is no longer required for entrance into the Octagon.
Octagon Hatch
Some heavy blast-proof storage bins for the explosive candy cover the top of the Octagon’s hatch. As such, it is currently inaccessible. It has also been reinforced to bear the extra weight. The dust near the bottom of one of the bins seems disturbed, and some small scratches are visible on the surface of the hatch in the same spot.
Dining Hall
A dining hall, complete with a kitchen, has been installed on the 3rd Floor of Grape house, replacing the Monokuma Museum.
Dining Hall Trash
In the dining hall trash, there was an empty can of Des-Pear flavor fizzy lifting drink, many small wrappers, and a decent amount of rigid licorice. The licorice in the trash was still flexible.
Drink Bar Trash
In the trash by the bar, there were three cans of Strawberry fizzy lifting drink, and two cans of Grape fizzy lifting drink.
A Lifetime’s Supply
All the sources of candy and sweets are restocked at the beginning of each night.

Mysterious Monokuma Machine
It’s got sugar and spice and nothing at all nice! Well, you don’t really know for sure…All you can say is it’s big, boxy, has a bunch of indecipherable gages, pumps, dials, meters, and vents. It also features a large bin that can be tilted open via a handle. It is located in the Final Dead Room, on the 1st floor of Strawberry House.
Exploding Candy
For your enemies. Plenty of gel ignitor in these bright yellow little balls. Explodes when enough kinetic force is applied. They are stored in large bins in the Octagon.
Drink Bar Trash
In the trash by the bar, there were three cans of Strawberry fizzy lifting drink, and two cans of Grape fizzy lifting drink.
A Lifetime’s Supply
All the sources of candy and sweets are restocked at the beginning of each night.

2023.11.08 01:09 Jasper371 [WTS] 🍂🍂🍂 Cascade Refining, Mount Everest Mint, Brown Materials Co, Great Lakes Mint, Silver Strikes and MORE VINTAGE SILVER 🍂🍂🍂

Proof Photo
Lots of new goodies to ogle today.
🚀🚀🚀 Vintage Bars and MORE 🚀🚀🚀
  1. Cascade Refining 25.16oz Bar. Cascade Refining bars are some of the most beautiful vintage bars out there, and this example is no exception. Instead of serial numbers, Cascade stamped the date the bars were born, this one being from 10/01/1982. $950
  2. Augustus Humbert $50 California Gold tributue 1oz Silver Octagon Slug. Serial N02536. Stunning vintage silver piece, downsizing since I don't need to own 2 of them. $100
  3. 1973 Mount Everest Mint First Silver Bar. This is the first silver bar they put out when they opened their doors in 1973. $35
  4. 1973 Mount Everest Mint First Medallic Issue. I suppose this would be their first medallion/coin. Kind of an odd duck, as it weighs 13.9 grams. $15
  5. 1973 MEM Sherl Joseph Winter - Family. “A penny is more than loose change,” he told the New York Times. “You are carrying around a little piece of sculpture all the time.” Winter was a painteengraver located in Philadelphia and even worked for the US Mint. History buffs will notice the initials "J.W." on the reverse of the American Gold Eagle, and Winters was the sculpture for the design. $35
  6. Brown Materials Co 1oz Silver Round. Extremely rare 1oz round from Brown Materials Co. There's more information on the internet about their large poured bars than these 1oz pieces. For a estimated time period, we can assume early 70's. Brown Materials poured bars used the same molds and purity stamps as Golden Analytical. Due to scarcity I only have ONE auction comp to go off of. $100
  7. 1973 SilverTowne Peace Bar. SilverTowne's been in the game for a long time. Love the textured finish on the front side. $32
  8. 1975 USSC 200th Anniversary Bars. Speaking of texture, check THESE bars out from United States Silver Corp! $32 each. 3 available.
  9. 1974 USSC World Trade and Commerce 1oz Round. I guess everyone was really concerned with the entire WORLD in 1974. USSC was located in Van Nuys, California and would change their name to Continental Coin Corporation in 1978, likely due to their affinity for WORLD domination. $32
  10. Boise Cascade 1oz Silver Round. I'm not sure if the backs of these are supposed to be blank or not but here she is, lol. $30
  11. Hamilton Mint, America the Beautiful, Cog Railway. Cool old 70's bar with nice toning. $30
  12. Gold Resource Corporation 2010 1oz Round. Cool little tribute round. The production on these is more recent than my normal fare but they still seem quite scarce. $35
  13. 1973 Great Lakes Mint High Wheeler. Nice dark toning on this bar. $30
  14. A-Mark A0100 1oz Bar. This is the older, slightly thickesmaller type bar. Album has it next to a standard sized bar for comparison. $38
  15. National Refiners and Assayers. Seems I only ever find these in OGP. $30
  16. 1973 World Mint Corp One Silverado. Basically the OG prospector. $35
  17. California Crown Mint Trade Unit. Crazy deep strike on one side, lots of detail. $28
  18. 1981 US Assay Office Strategic Stockpile. Nice lustrous example. $28
  19. South East Refining Eagle. Everyone's favorite mint from Panama City. $31
  20. Liberty Mint, USS Constituion. I can't express how much I like these rounds. I recently replaced this one with an older version so letting this one go. Remember, Honest Value Never Fails. $28
  21. 1970 Kansas 100th Anniversary. Any Kansonians? Jayhawkers? Idk what y'all refer to yerself as. $27 Pending
  22. 16.5 Gram Replica Ancient. Lots of detail there, including the Goat's junk. $20
  23. Silver Strikes! I know these are the reason like half of you are even looking at my post. $18 each. 8 available.
  24. 1893 Colombus Exposition Half. Appears to be cleaned. $15
  25. Absolutely Roached 1876 Seated Quarter. $5
  26. 1980 Casa de Moneda Onza. Dirty bird that I'll dip for free if you want. $33
  27. Return of the Wash Peso's. They're back! $2 each. 7 available.
  28. Vintage Mexico Sterling Bracelet. Beautiful piece. Weighs approximately 35 grams, probably more since my scale sucks. Fits a 7 inch wrist. $60
  29. Silver Bell / Whistle Combo. Fair warning, this might just be plated but I think it's cool anyway. This was probably used to royally piss off servants and housekeepers for decades. Imagine the look on your wifes face when you give this a jingle and produce an ear-piercing whistle. Weighs approximately 20 grams but like I said, could be plated I'm not sure. $20
  30. Random Sterling Goodies. Roughly 26.5mm Coin Bezel $5. Vintage engraved locket $7. Sterling Jesus $5. Woven Cross $6
  31. Stagecoach Divisible 1oz Bars. For when you need to get out of dodge. Say you're bartering with a local scrap dealer but you're not trying to overpay with a whole Troy Ounce for his roasted lizard kebab. No worries, just break off 1/4 of this bad boy and you're enjoying your irradiated dinner in no time. $30 each. 6 available.
🪄🌋✨ Jasper's Frosty Pours ✨🌋🪄
It's called the Leidenfrost Effect, but we're just gonna say they're frosty. The first bars that I sold are in the hands of their owners and the feedback has been incredible. It's hard to photograph, and thats why each album has a short video showing the bar at various angles. Silver for these pours is sourced from .999 fine silver bars/rounds and I had a local shop sigma test 4 different bars, with all 4 ringing true at .999 purity. Weights are taken on a RCBS reloading scale that is accurate to +/- 0.1 grain and then rounded down to the nearest gram. Some bars may have a very small amount of flux on the surface and I'm actively improving my methods to reduce this to zero. Enjoy.
  1. Serial #005, 39.5 Pennyweights. Yeah I used DWT's, what are you gonna do about it? The last bit of silver from the crucible fell into the mold at the same time the surface was about to cool and solidify creating a splash crater. Not something I could repeat even if I tried. $60
  2. Serial #013, 57 Grams. By this point my notes are really starting to provide visible results. Smoother surface texture while maintaining subtle ripples and good frost. $55
  3. Serial #015, 68 Grams. At this point in the pour session I actually poured 20 bars in a row with ZERO frosting effect and started to panic a bit. Tweaked some variables and eventually got back to the good stuff. $65
  4. Serial #016, 67 Grams. Another moment where Icarus flew too close to the sun. Top left corner has a bit of pitting/flux but had enough going for it that I didn't want to melt and try again. $65
  5. Serial #017, 54 Grams. With this bar its evident that I started to run out of gas and was also low on silver. Has a fun shape to it and lots of character though, so decided to keep out of the melt bin. $50
🚤🚤🚤🚤🚤🚤
Shipping will be $5 for First Class Ground Advantage and $10 for Priority in the US. Tracking included, insurance costs extra. I highly prefer Zelle and Paypal F&F (NO NOTES), but I also have Venmo and CashApp. I am not currently taking trades unless you have some old stuff from H Alvin Sharpe or maybe South American silver bars.

2023.11.04 22:26 CycloneDensity Can a Kobold Save The World? part 44

Author’s note: EDIT: Aww, that was some lovely father-daughter bonding right there. let's see what other things they did with those gems, eh?
Attention everyone, this is a Kobold Public Service Announcement. A new path of fate has been opened, and the way to Royal Road has been revealed. Onboarding processes are ongoing as of this moment, please stand by for further information.
[First][Prev][Next]
Bahruk and I worked hard to make a different selection of gem parts. We had round gems, square gems, octagons and hexagons, and even a few gems that came to a point at the end. The effect seemed to be that flat gems would work only with their flat faces as different logic gates, round gems would have some kind of capacitor or resistor reaction, and pointed gems would focus mana into the point instead of to the faces while pushing the energy along its path at a higher speed. I’m sure a technological wizard could take all these different gems and make a fully functional computer in this world, but my mind wasn’t geared for that kind of thinking.
As we worked and tested the multitude of varying gem and shape combinations I pitched the idea of selling them to wealthy people, and as I expected it was quickly shot down. As it turns out, high grade gems had certain laws and restrictions they had to pass through, and since neither of us were doing this under the direct order of the master merchant elder it would be impossible for us to sell these without him noticing and sicking the kobold cops on us. I hate trade laws and taxes, so I’m going to keep all of these shiny rocks for myself since making them for the purpose of inventing technically falls under my domain as an inventor.
Going back over my notes on the crystal components of dubious legality, I had determined that each type of gem we had could work in these regards: emerald took more than one input to get an output, ruby would only pass the mana if it was fed from a single source, sapphire would split the mana into every direction, and amethyst would always redirect mana to flow out to the clockwise adjacent face of the input side. When they were made into round or pointed ones I noticed that rubies and amethysts would build a charge before release with rubies going for a single pulse and the amethyst making multiple bursts of power, the sapphire would always cause the mana to flow in a concentrated line for a while after leaving the gem, and emeralds sent the mana out in a rolling fog. Perhaps these could have an effect on runes that they fed into, causing them to operate differently depending on how they were tuned.
I racked my brain to try and find some use for them, but it had already been a few hours of dad and I playing around and testing magic changing rocks. The gray matter needed some sugars if it was going to make any more progress, and I wanted to get out and stretch my legs. I slid my slate over to my dad, who was scratching at the metal shell of the happily chirping Tim.
“I need a break. Want to get something to eat?”
He let out an amused chuff before springing from the stool with renewed vigor.
“Yeah, sounds good. I know a place you will like.”
We each went and grabbed some cash before making our way to the door, only for something in my mind to stop me like an invisible wall placed over the entrance. What was this feeling of dread I was getting, and why was it pulling me back towards the hobby room? I allowed this foreign sensation to guide me back through the doorway where it vanished, but it became clear from a cursory sweep of the room what was wrong. The work table was covered in a mound of precious metals and gems, the kind that would fetch an asking price in the thousands of Draks. Was fate trying to warn me that someone might steal all of this while we were out? Thanks for the warning, but how was I supposed to hide all of this?
Bahruk wandered in after me and saw the predicament, though he already had an answer.
“We should probably put this all in the storeroom to be safe. Wouldn’t want a kobold of poor reputation to take a gander in our den while we were out, now would we?”
That was a good idea, but I wanted to test something as well. We moved all of the expensive items into the storeroom, but I intentionally left behind a small pile of valuables that would be a decoy treasure mound. I tried to make it seem as if an apprentice jeweler was working on something by leaving a small sapphire and a few bent pieces of silver metal lying around off to the side with my bargain bin tools lying across the table in a semi-organised way. If fate was going to give me warnings like this from now on, I wanted to have some assurance that they were reliable and had some manner of accuracy to them. The only way to test for accuracy was to give it a shot, and from the miniscule sense of despair I felt when leaving the den I knew that it was still actively warning me of some incident in the future.
With the potential damage mitigated and our wallets ready we set off for this place that dad wanted to take me. We didn’t take the lift to get there, but it was only two floors above us and a quarter rotation around the city. This was the same floor as Tuleni’s clinic, but no matter how long I stared at the tunnel that led to her abode I never saw the rest of our family emerge from there. The place I was led to looked like another of those food courts the kobold architects were so fond of, but the main kitchen was made in the center of the area and the walls were made of smaller vendors. Our focus was set on the kitchen in the center, and the unusual things going on in there.
First off, the kobold running this place was one of those vaguely goblin looking people, and from up close I could finally see and smell that they were indeed kobolds. Given the presence of those predatory eyes, the terrible claws, a pair of twisted black horns, as well as the patches of scales present around the shoulders and forearms, I couldn’t confidently call them goblin-like anymore. The woman woking here was a kind lady with gentle eyes and a small bun of brown hair tied up atop her head, and she was more than eager to ramble on about her kind when Bahruk asked on my behalf. Apparently people sharing an appearance to her are kobolds as well, but they like to be called Imps or Implins.
She also took the time to give us her name, Myu-Mill and let us look around her business since it was a slow day for her. The kitchen she showed us was impressive for its small size: she had a nice fire pit burning in the center, a counter running the length of the back wall covered in spices and knives, and a series of catwalks that allowed her to get up and around to the various shelves she had around here. I only noticed when she got close to me on the platform she was on that her head only came up to my side because she was up there, but on the ground she would only reach my knees. Regardless of her height, she was able to run this kitchen on her own and serve hundreds of kobolds as big as us a meal every day.
The meal in question was currently rotating above the smoldering fire in the center of the kitchen. It was one of those chunks of meat that was rotated slowly over a smoky flame, which if I remembered correctly was called shawarma or al pastor back on Earth. I wouldn’t know, I’ve never had it. Either way, the meat that spun slowly over the embers smelled heavenly, and my mouth was watering just thinking about it.
Suddenly, Mye-Mill let out a delighted squeal as she noticed Tim scuttling by my feet.
“Oh goodness, is that yours? Oh he is just a cutie scootie! I have a pet too, you want to meet her? Blop, wake up Blop.”
She gestured to the fire for it to respond, and from the ashes rose the head of an ash gray lizard with black spots. It’s tired eyes looked around at the gathered people until it recognized its owner, and once seen she responded by giving it a tickle under the chin to its delight.
“Blop is a fire salamander, and she’s been with me for years now. My business was always a burden financially, but when you don’t need to buy firewood for cooking anymore it gets a whole lot easier. She eats a little of the dish herself as payment, but it’s all good. The customers love her, I love her, and she’s more than happy with her job.”
Tim seemed intrigued by Blop, but upon getting close it became quickly apparent that Blop was not fond of her visitor. A small jet of flame rolled over the isopod’s shell, but the densely armored critter didn’t seem to notice the attack. He persisted in poking at her with his antennae, and once he was satisfied with his inspection he made his way over to the corner and began climbing his way into the kitchen’s rubbish bin. Dad was quick enough to stop him, but not before Tim snagged a prize with his little jaws.
Mye-Mill got a good laugh over the exchange, but Blop seemed nonplussed by the bug’s behavior. We apologized for Tim’s behavior and thanked her for her kindness, as well as paid a little extra for giving us a larger than average portion with each of our orders. We both took our meals and the trash munching bug over to a spot overlooking the bustling city and ate while watching everything go on.
After a while I began to get this incredibly unsettling feeling that we were being watched, and soon enough I detected mana moving around us that matched the profile of those awful floating camera eyes. I wanted to just ignore them, but the more I did the closer they crept and the more disturbed my thought became. I looked over my shoulder at the one that shared the same floor as us and stared it down as it bobbed silently in the air. Unlike the other ones from before, this device didn’t flinch under my gaze and instead seemed to want to draw my attention towards it. This was too sketchy for me to be relaxed about, meaning that I was checking every possible angle that my head could turn to face.
As if right on cue, a terrible spine chilling stare bored into my soul. I recognized the intense malice and foreboding drone that rang in the back of my mind as the vision of one of the accursed elders. I traced the line of their magic stare back to its source, but my eyes only drifted up to look into the blue sky above where the mana had come from. The other eyes that had surrounded me scattered in every direction save for the one I had looked at. I resumed our silent interrogation, but the eye seemed satisfied with whatever had just happened and turned to leave.
A deep well of hatred and anger was boiling up alongside a weeping pit of fear. Almost all sound around me was beginning to become drowned out as a crackling was filling my ears, and that toxic rage was now pushing against my every thought. What were they doing messing with me like that? Did they think I was just going to balk when they revealed themselves? Did they think I would be afraid? My jaw clenched hard enough that my muscles began to complain from the pressure I demanded of them, the feeling of pure vitriol behind my eyes making me want to bite at the throat of every last-
“Kayrux, we need to go home. Now. “
I barely registered the words, but looking back at my father made the fury rising up from my stomach fizzle out. He looked absolutely petrified, and he wasn’t looking at anyone else but me. I only noticed as my mind slowed down that I was panting like some animal, and that my hands were trembling in front of me. Oh God, I must look like a real psychopath. People who were walking by had also begun to stop and stare, which only added to the awful gut feeling of guilt that had taken the rage’s place.
I clutched my bag and my slate to my chest and skittered away as quickly as I could without breaking into a full sprint. Dad was close behind me with Tim curled in his arms, but through the tears running down my cheeks they looked like a purple and gray blur tailing me. I passed through the entrance of the den and flew into the hobby room to sit behind the crates and boxes in the corner. I tucked my head into my arms and hid until I could think rationally again.
What’s wrong with me? I’ve never been a spiteful or angry person before, but just having that feeling of one of the elders watching me sent me into a blind rage. It was as if I were forcibly pushed out of control within my own mind and as I struggled to free myself I was locked in the metaphorical trunk. Flashbacks to the inside of the cage came to mind, the conversation with the mirror dragon too, but these memories weren’t enough to cause me that kind of fury, were they? I clutched my knees to my chest tighter and locked myself tight with my tail.
I don’t want to hurt anyone.
I don’t want to be a monster.
I don’t want to scare my family.
“Are you alright my dearest daughter?”
I barely loosened my grip on myself enough to peer up at him. Dad’s face wasn’t one of terror anymore, but was now that calm sort of worry and concern that a father gets when he wants to check on his panicking daughter. I didn’t want to move from my spot yet, not until that crackling sound stopped. I pushed my snout back into my shins and tightened the coil of my tail until I was packed as small as I could be.
“I will assume that your egg-shape means that you are not alright. I will wait right here until you are ready to answer me, but I need you to come out of the corner first. It is important that you see what is happening to yourself in the mirror.”
What does that mean? I uncurled my arms and wiped the tears from my arms, and only when I did so could I detect the flickering light on the wall behind me. I carefully crawled out of the corner and pushed myself onto my feet, then faced the mirror to look at my reflection. What the hell?
I looked into the eyes of my mirror self, and I could understand why my father had been struck by absolute dread. My eyes were glowing, actually emitting light enough that the golden color of my eyes were like the filaments of incandescent lights. Along my back was a ridge of raised spike-like protrusions I had never seen before that pulsed with energy, and between them came arcs of golden energy that snapped with the power of thunder magic. Only now did I smell it, but the air of the hobby room reeked of ionization and burnt wood. I looked back into the corner and saw scorch marks from where my back had pressed into a box.
I looked into myself to inspect the mana lines, and was aghast to see that multiple variable limiters and thunder runes had formed along my mana lines. I reached out mentally to turn the power of these runes off, but the moment I released the limiter to allow it to drain its excess mana it would spring back to its 10% output limit and send a surge of mana into the thunder rune to cause another spark of electricity.
Bahruk approached me carefully, but one stray jolt touched the floor at his feet. I jerked away from him and raised my hands to signal that he needed to stay away, but he took another step towards me with his own hands raised.
“Kayrux, you need to listen to me. You’re cascading right now, but not involuntarily. Some part of you is trying to defend itself against something and won’t stop until you recognize that you’re safe now. Trust me when I say that you are safe here in our home. The front door is blocked, the room we are in is blocked, and you have your father here to protect you.”
He reached over and grabbed the copper sword from the scabbard, and with one swift movement drove it deep into the earth at his feet using his earth magic. He knelt by the plunged blade and clenched a fist over his heart.
“I am not a brave man, nor am I a strong man, but my wits are what I will use to defend my family. Never again will I stand by helplessly as my family is harmed, and no more will you suffer for our sake. Come, take hold of this blade and disperse your magic into the ground. Your power* is vast, but the mountain might yet be greater. Even if it does not stop the cascade, you may be able to think of a remedy once your body is purged of the excess power.”
What other choice did I have but to go along with his plan? None, and right now that was the only logic I needed to think about. He stepped away from the makeshift lightning rod, far enough that he wouldn’t catch any stray shots of magic, and nodded for me to go. I braced one heel against the wall, took one deep breath, and lunged forward towards the handle. The lightning beat me to it, but in the end that was all I needed. In that instant the copper sword was erased from my view and every limiter was drained of power by the thunder runes now hungrily devouring more mana to replace the spent electrons, giving me just enough time to will every limiter closed and locked shut until the leftover mana could bleed out from the thunder runes. My body ached and my muscles spasmed, but my mental hands would not release their death grips on the rebellious limiters until every thunder rune had been dismantled.
When there was no more mana coursing through me without my say so, I gave Bahruk a thumbs up from my prone position to signal that the coast was clear. I felt his hands pull me from the ground and wrap me in a hug and Tim's little antennae poking at my leg curiously. I think that’s enough magic from me for one day.

2023.11.04 04:11 CycloneDensity Can a Kobold Save The World? part 43

Author’s note: A typewriter is on the way, and Kayrux will need a dozen times more ink pots if she wants to keep that thing fed with how much she writes. almost as much as me... As always my dear readers, enjoy!
[First][Prev][Next]
The next morning I awoke to find that everyone except for Bahruk had gone out to get some last minute supplies, as well as to visit Tuleni. It seemed as though mom was finally ready to face her again, and I could only pray that she would come home with good news. Good luck to mom and grandma both, may calmer minds prevail.
I decided that today was going to be a day of preparation of my own for the week ahead, as well as a day of material analysis and note taking. From the cluttered shelves of my belongings and the miscellaneous bins in the hobby room I reclaimed the assorted materials I had purchased for mana experimentation. Uncut gems, precious metals, minerals and liquids of varying consistency: anything I thought could be used to make something mechanical to some extent. My table now looked like a dump, but that was a temporary issue as I had begun to take the items one by one and allow my scanner runes to determine their magic properties.
First we had the metals. Silver was the commonly used mana conductor around here, and for good reason as it had something like a 90% conductivity rating and a remarkable resilience to being overcharged with mana. Gold was less than impressive at around 70% and showing signs of being made brittle by the mana currents. Interestingly, pure Iron acted as a high grade mana insulator, but my sample of steel showed decent conductivity and a generous capacity for being fed too much mana. Was it possible that alloys had unique characteristics of their own? Once I had some brass and bronze of my own to play with, I would definitely be testing that theory.
I still had that lump of zinc from before and was able to deduce it had an unimpressive conductivity, but something else was happening when I attempted to supply it with mana. That blue tinge crept over it from where I held it, and the larger the blue area grew the hotter the piece became. I had more zinc in the workshop and there were no flammable materials around, so I went ahead and pushed on but using the silver ingot as an intermediary surface to pour mana into it. Once the blue tint had fully enveloped the metal it became much more lustrous than before, and after checking to make sure it had cooled down I was able to pick it up and scan it.
This was no longer zinc. It was cool to the touch, much cooler than the room around it, and it felt much denser than it had before. My runes told me that it now boasted an 80% mana conductivity, but also was storing magic energy in itself. I attempted to drain the mana from within the new metal, but it wouldn’t budge. Looking closer, it seemed that the mana I had funneled into it had stabilized within, and was bonded to the metal somehow. I tried to do a few material tests on it to see if it was any different, but after my first tap with a hammer the sample sparked then crumbled like wet chalk before turning back into regular zinc. This would be seeing more experiments in the lab, that was for sure.
Without any more metals to test my eyes settled on the minerals and gems next. Each gem was given a three phase experiment to see if my theory was correct. The first test was on the basic uncut gem with no processing or tampering. The second test was to see if my filter rune could pick out specific substances and filter them, since it could do both single atomic metals and molecules like water. The third test was the same mana test on the now filtered gems to see if they had any change.
The tests began and my hopes were immediately shot when the cracked ruby I had bought shattered before my sensor could have enough time to get any data. I was much safer with the sapphire and slowly scaled the mana up, but there was this humming from the crystal that bothered me. A new sensor was set up to watch how the mana flowed and give me a shape to focus on. As the mana would pass through the surface of the gem, it would bounce around erratically then shoot off in random directions before making its way out. The unregulated flow of mana seemed to be eroding the gem internally, and as such was causing any flaws inherent to the gem to become worse.
I wanted to proceed with the filtering test, but I also wanted someone on standby if the gem cut me or if the refined gem had some unforeseen spell effect. I went into the main den area to find dad sitting comfortably with a book in his hands and a curled up ball of iron isopod in his lap, which in itself was an adorable sight. I crouched down beside him with an explanation of my current situation written out for him. He closed his book, rolled Tim off of his lap, and came with me to the hobby room, only for our delightful pet to come skittering after us.
I showed him my notes on how conductive the metals were and the things I had noticed about gems, which he seemed fascinated by until he read my current plan.
“Using gems for runework is a dangerous thing. Only pure gems can work properly, and even the pure ones have their own special way of letting mana flow. If you’re sure you want to try that filter spell on the gem then I can only support you.”
Thanks dad, that’s good to hear. With nothing else holding me back I took the gem in my hands and made a rune setup identical to the metal refining system. As before there was no perceptible change to the gem until the mana reached a certain point, but there was this sense that the rune wasn’t strong enough to get at the internal impurities. Nothing about the setup felt like it would evolve if I cranked it up a few degrees, so I obliged the power hungry rune with an increase in power. Still not enough, so let’s bring it to the very edge of 20% of one mana line. There was that twisting sensation again as though the rune was about to snap free and take on a new form, but even at the edge of changing into a new rune the setup was unable to pierce the crystal’s surface.
I set the gem down so I could jot down a question for Bahruk.
“I’m giving the runes in my mind as much power as I safely can, but they aren’t strong enough to do the task at hand. Should I allow them to evolve into stronger runes? There comes the risk that they will do something unexpected, but if I can keep the new rune under control then I can probably purify the emerald.”
He scratched his chin as he mulled it over, then nodded with a smile.
“I think you’ll handle it. You don’t give yourself credit, but you have definitely improved. The times I see you just cast magic without even trying is uncountable, but every time you do so flawlessly. Just do whatever it is you do to make your regular spells safe, and go from there as you judge it. Embrace the newness and stay calm, just like always.”
Switching in these low energy runes on the fly for menial tasks isn’t quite the same as letting one of said runes transform into something unexpected, but I can understand what he meant. Keeping a variable limit rune on hand at all times had just become my default state and visualizing a quick wind or cooling rune was easy. This was a whole different animal, one that I had few encounters with before. Flashbacks to the hole in the wall and the sudden greeting my head made with the ceiling came to mind, and I hesitated long enough for Bahruk to offer me another way.
“Why don’t you try making that new rune on something safer first? Get the bigger rune, then try to use it on the gems once it’s known and ready?”
That sounded a whole lot more doable, and had a lesser chance of breaking something valuable. What could I filter other than the gems though? Everything we had was either rocks or wood, and filtering a specific element out of those would leave more waste than refined material. Maybe if I had an alloy item, something that had a majority of one metal and less of others I could give that a whirl. Oh wait, my bronze shortsword I never carried anymore!
I went back into my room and dug it out from under other crud I had accumulated, then jogged back into the hobby room with it at my side. I held it out while standing in the center of the room and checked with dad to see if he was ready. That’s a thumbs up, so we are ready for action. Here goes nothing.
I started the system at ten percent power, the maximum that my regular variable runes could go to, and saw that the bronze was almost giving up its impurities and returning to copper but was still resisting my power. I doubled up the variable limiter sizes and ran the system again starting at ten and slowly ramped it up. The filter rune began to jitter and thrash, but instead of holding it together I let it bend and twist as it wanted until it was almost in place as a new rune. Eugh, this doesn’t feel right, almost as if this rune isn’t done changing because it still doesn’t have enough power. I restarted the process after scrapping the half formed rune in favor of a fresh one, then switched the limiters to handle up to thirty percent power. I was shaking at this point since I had never intentionally gone that high on the power scale, but I knew that progress was locked behind this evolution.
I started the rune arrays one more time. The filter rune, which looked like a small depiction of a rising sun, began to shatter at the edges and bloat into a three dimensional image of a sphere radiating squiggly lines from every direction, all connected by a finer webbing of power lines running through the center of it all. Damn, this rune was a power hog! I kept feeding it power until it finally stabilized at 30%, at which point I watched in amazement as the non-copper of the sword peeled away like a waxy film into the swirling vortex that was my other matching filter geared for gathering the impurities into one compact ball. There was nothing else coming off of the sword, and the once dull orange had sharpened into a gorgeous copper hue better than any metal that came from the workshop, so I let the runed power down and drain their excess mana back into my source.
My arms felt sore, as if they had been holding tight onto the handle of a lawn mower for the past hour. Not nearly as bad as when the moon-fall happened, but still not pleasant. I presented the refined copper shortsword and ball of silver white metal to Bahruk, who looked at me with unrestrained jubilation.
“See, I told you that you were good! Are you alright though? You look a little tired.”
I handed him the objects so I could roll my shoulders to work away the strained feeling in my muscles. Two thumbs up from me dad, I’m just peachy! In fact, I’m feeling even more motivated now that a proof of concept has been achieved. These new runes will be my ”refine” runes, and with them I should be able to tackle these gems and move my way through the crates of ore in the workshop with ease. I took the copper sword and returned it to the crude sheath before hanging it from the edge of the table. The ball of what I assumed was tin wasn’t really useful to me, but I knew someone who liked his tin: Tim.
I rolled the ball across the floor, which delighted the bug enough that he chased it with a small trill and pounced upon it. Dad and I shared a good laugh as the silly creature attempted to curl into a ball around the orb, only to launch it a few feet behind itself and starting the chase again. I loved this little goober. Dad patted me on the back, and when I looked him in the eyes I could see great joy in his heart.
“I’m proud of you, my daughter. You’ve amazed me once again. Now let’s get on with the main project here, shall we?”
Hell yeah! I sat back in my chair and snatched the emerald from the table so I could go ahead and start the refining. As expected, the gem put up considerable resistance when the setup was at low power, but after the refine rune crossed the 20% power threshold it began to pry that vapor-like dust from the inside of the crystal as well as tear away any of the surface layer imperfections. I felt confident that nothing bad was going to happen if I went for 30%, and for once I was right in my assumption when the dust began to spew from the gem at a rapid rate until there was nothing left to purify. My sensor runes told me that the procedure was no longer making any changes to the object, meaning that the pure green chunk in the palm of my hand was a pure emerald. Even uncut it shone beautifully in the light.
Bahruk held out his hand expectantly, and I complied with letting him see it. To my surprise he began to make those strange hand motions that correlated with his earth magic, and in response the gem began to shift and writhe in his hand. It looked as though the emerald had become a liquid in his hands as the mana from his spell ripped through it like a jagged knife. He grunted as the strain of maintaining the spell set in, though he still managed to keep his voice level as he asked me a question.
“Any shape you want it? Just draw it and it’ll be like that.”
What shape comes to mind when I think emerald? Something long and flat with a rectangular shape, but also no sharp ninety degree angles. I drew a tall octagon on my slate, which Bahruk was able to recreate with ease in the palm of his hand. The mana flowing through it tensed and made harsh strands that ran through the crystal like a web of grid-like structures, resulting in the perfectly smooth emerald to solidify and shine in his palm. He gently laid the impossibly perfect gem atop the table for inspection and testing.
I had to take a moment to take in just how gorgeous this gem was. A perfect emerald with zero impurities or defects that could never occur in nature, reshaped by magic to be an impossible cut that not even the finest of jeweler could manage. This thing was probably a priceless treasure now and would sell for a shit-ton of money, and I was about to use it to learn more about magic. I looked to the box of other uncut gems and chuckled at the potential side business of making incredibly valuable gems for the rich and powerful.
Realistically it would never work due to the fact that a war was slowly encroaching on my homeland. Someday it might work, but for now these shiny rocks were just another part of some machine yet to be built. Realigning my mana lines to be just power supplies and sensors again I tapped a finger to the narrow edge of the emerald and pushed a small trickle of mana inside. The mana flowed in easily and without any change in path, but once it had reached the center it began to swirl around in agitation before coming back my way and reentering my mana lines. I left some residual mana inside of the crystal and moved my hand away, only for the energy to dissipate back from where it had entered.
I tried each side and noticed that it would have the same effect no matter which way it came in from. What if I tried to power it from two different sides at the same time? When I tried doing just that the mana entered the center of them gem and began to flow out towards along a perpendicular path until they exited from the sides not being touched. The same thing happened every time, leading me to understand that this gem was working like some kind of computer logic gate or something. I wrote all of this down and passed the sheet of notes to Bahruk, who seemed confused by my explanation.
“You mean that the magic only leaves the way it came unless it has more coming in from the other way? What if you try feeding it from one of the long sides and a short one?”
Ah, he seems to be just as curious as I am. Doing as he suggested resulted in the mana flowing into the diagonal edge between the unpowered faces. This gem really was acting like a little smart rock! Dad looked at my notes as I wrote them and nodded along in understanding. He was getting ideas, just as I was.
“You could make safe tools, ones that only work if you have two hands on them. Clever machines that only work with one end depending on which sides are fed. A row of rune devices that can spew different magics determined by the one holding it. Is ingenious, but also so strange. Now I wondering what different shapes do and what different gems act like. Oooh, not been exciting in many time!”
Calm down there pops you’re starting to go full on lizard brain! Who am I kidding, I’m about losing it myself here! He had the same idea and plan that I did, and just as much enthusiasm. Oooh, maybe we can work together to piece the broken ruby back together too! This was going to be so much fun for the both of us.

2023.11.03 02:19 Jasper371 [WTS] 🌋🌋🌋 Frosty Pours, Cascade Refining, Vintage Bars, World Silver, 90%@19x and MORE 🌋🌋🌋

Proof Photo
Another late night sale while I try to raise funds to buy an electric melting furnace and some other supplies. Have a new batch of pours that I was able to do before I ran out of gas (again).
Enjoy.
  1. Serial #004, 60 Grams. The oldest bar currently in my possession. Good ripples and shimmer. $60
  2. Serial #005, 39.5 Pennyweights. Yeah I used DWT's, what are you gonna do about it? The last bit of silver from the crucible fell into the mold at the same time the surface was about to cool and solidify creating a splash crater. Not something I could repeat even if I tried. $60
  3. Serial #010, 60 Grams. First of the double digit serials. Nice hourglass ripples. $60
  4. Serial #011, 3.1oz. The largest pour I've done, as the silver for this bar came from a 10oz bar and was the last in the session. Discounted at ~~$90 $83~~
  5. Serial #012, 61 Grams. This bar was the first keeper from the latest batch of pours. I get roughly 1 keeper out of every 5-8 pour attempts, but this is mostly because I am striving for more than just an average looking bar. $61
  6. Serial #013, 57 Grams. By this point my notes are really starting to provide visible results. Smoother surface texture while maintaining subtle ripples and good frost. $57
  7. Serial #014, 58 Grams. "Behold, blessed perfection." This bar isn't exactly perfect, but it's probably the closest I've come to my own ideal. The shape, the shimmer. Hell, even the bottom is frosty. I don't mind keeping this one as an example of what to strive for, so it will be priced slightly higher. $68
  8. Serial #015, 68 Grams. At this point in the pour session I actually poured 20 bars in a row with ZERO frosting effect and started to panic a bit. Tweaked some variables and eventually got back to the good stuff. $65
  9. Serial #016, 67 Grams. Another moment where Icarus flew too close to the sun. Top left corner has a bit of pitting/flux but had enough going for it that I didn't want to melt and try again. $65
  10. Serial #017, 54 Grams. With this bar its evident that I started to run out of gas and was also low on silver. Has a fun shape to it and lots of character though, so decided to keep out of the melt bin. $54
  2. McLemore Metals Inc. 25~oz Bars. Made by a small operation from Longview, Texas. Nice vintage loaf at a reduced price. $700
  3. Augustus Humbert $50 California Gold tributue 1oz Silver Octagon Slug. Serial N02536. Stunning vintage silver piece, downsizing since I don't need to own 2 of them. $110
  4. 1973 Sitting Bull 1oz Bar. Very rare bar from the Patrick Mint. Super high relief portrait and great showcase of how they achieved it with the dimple on the back of the bar. Bar is in near mint condition, likely stored in a flip since new. $100
  5. GOLD STANDARD 1oz bar by Engelhard. Very rare tier 2 Engelhard bar made for the Gold Standard company. Less than 2000 made and in mint condition in original packaging. Blank back variety. $105
  6. Another Gold Standard 1oz bar. Same type as the above bar but hes been free from his factory packaging for some time. $80
  7. Gold Resource Corporation 2010 1oz Round. Cool little tribute round. The production on these is more recent than my normal fare but they still seem quite scarce. $35
  9. South East Refining 1oz Bars. Old refinery from Panama City, Florida. $30
  10. 1974 United States Silver Corporation World Trade and Commerce 1oz Round. I guess everyone was really concerned with the entire WORLD in 1974. USSC was located in Van Nuys, California and would change their name to Continental Coin Corporation in 1978, likely due to their affinity for WORLD domination. $33
  11. Western States Refining Eagle Eagle 1oz Round. It's got America stamped on it twice just in case you forgot. $35
  12. Jackson Precious Metals 1oz Bars. 2 different varieties of JPM bars here. I wanna say the bottom one is older, as its more in line with the shape of bars from the 70's. $28 each.
  13. Boise Cascade 1oz Silver Round. I'm not sure if the backs of these are supposed to be blank or not but here she is, lol. $33
  14. America Argent Mint Ltd 1oz Bar. That's one pissed off looking Eagle. $30
  15. Hamilton Mint, America the Beautiful, Cog Railway. Cool old 70's bar with nice toning. $30
  16. 1972 World Wide Coin Investments 1913 Nickel Art Bar. Cool old bar from 1972. $38
  17. Mexico 1978 Cien Peso's. Nicely toned and a little bit, eh, seasoned. $17
  18. Mexico 1956 Diez Peso's. Silver 10 Peso, aka "Hidalgo Grande", aka the gov coin that all others fear. $25
  19. $4.50 FV US Quarters. The nicest examples were cherrypicked already but the remainders are still quite nice. Asking 19xFV, so $4.75 each. $3.75fv available.
  20. 2oz Silver Lone Star Nickle. BIG Buffalo. $52
  21. 1968 Chile 5 Peso Proof. Coin is pretty dirty but I'll leave that up to the buyer to deal with. Auction comps are sorta wild for these and I'm not really sure why. $50
  22. German 5 Marks. $8 each.
  23. Mixed Foreign Silver Lot. Philippines 20 centavos, Portugal 2.5 escudos, Cuba and more. Nice little mixed lot for $30.
  24. 1980 Casa de Moneda Onza. Dirty bird that I'll dip for free if you want. $33
  25. 2018 South Africa Krugerrands. Forgot to list them so adding them in a late edit. $27 each. 7 available.
🚤🚤🚤🚤🚤🚤
Shipping will be $5 for First Class Ground Advantage and $10 for Priority in the US. Tracking included, insurance costs extra. I highly prefer Zelle and Paypal F&F (NO NOTES), but I also have Venmo and CashApp. I am not currently taking trades unless you're trading me .999 at melt.

Hello! I recently got my first bunny rabbit. He came with an average size litter box, but I feel as though it takes up too much of his octagonal cage. I found a little storage bin that's 14in x 11in x 3in. Is this too small for him?

Gem cutting: research on cut and type distributions
Hey folks, I wanted to share some research I've done on the distributions of the output type of gem cutting (cuts gems, large gems, or crafts) and gem cut (e.g. octogon cut, cushion cabochon).

Motivation

I wanted to know how frequently I get large gems and what cuts were selected. I have a plan to make a giant museum of all large gem types and this research is necessary for effective planning. I think it would be very dwarfish to greedily hoard numerous large gems and stash them away for drooling over.

Methodology

I've been running my fort for 67 game years (year 5 to year 72) and I've amassed a hoard of rough gems -- just over 2000. I set up 4 gem cutters and trained them up on green glass gem cutting. This was so they would cut things faster (?) and I'd get some masterwork large gems also.
I wrote a small DFHack Lua script to write all of the items in a stockpile into a text file. This allowed me to accurately capture the input and the output of gem cutting on these 2000-odd rough gems. I set my 4 Urists to gem cutting and waited a long time.
I'll note that I had to select the specific gem on the "Cut gems" job. There is a bug (apparently since v50.07, see the forum post) where if you just select "Cut gems" without a specific gem material you will just get cut gems. No large gems or crafts at all! Yikes! This made the cutting process a bit more tedious but I only had 57 gem types so it was pretty easy. One of my gem cutters Stukos Bardumonol was an absolute machine, outpacing his 3 peers. Not sure why.
Once all of the cutting was done, I once again captured the stockpile contents into a text file. Finally, I wrote a small console app in C# (my comfort programming language) where I validated the items (e.g. are all of the rough gems accounted for in output products?) and wrote the results to a CSV file. Below is an analysis done on those CSV results in Excel.

Results

The results were relatively clean. Only 3 problems occurred.
  1. A green glass large gem magically appeared in the output stockpile which I had to disregard. I think a Urist disowned an item?
  2. 7 rough gems went missing in the process, very likely due to a Urist taking a 5 finger discount.
  3. A rough emerald somehow made it's way into a cut gem bin. Bug! I garbaged it, unforbade it, then recut it to fix the problem.
These problems were excluded from the data or resolved manually.

Type distribution

Type Count % of total
cut gems 1937 95.00%
large gem 93 4.56%
craft 9 0.44%
It looks like a 95% of cut gem, 4.5% chance of large gem, and a 0.5% chance of gem craft (!!!). So, gem crafts are very precious!

Gem cut distribution

This disregards the 9 crafts since they do not have gem cuts.
Cut Count % of total
tapered baguette cut 105 5.17%
table cut 105 5.17%
oval cabochon 104 5.12%
cushion cut 102 5.02%
baguette cut 102 5.02%
square cut 101 4.98%
emerald cut 99 4.88%
single cut 99 4.88%
square brilliant cut 99 4.88%
point cut 98 4.83%
marquise cut 93 4.58%
trillion cut 93 4.58%
round cabochon 91 4.48%
round brilliant cut 90 4.43%
pear cut 87 4.29%
rose cut 86 4.24%
cushion cabochon 86 4.24%
radiant cut 86 4.24%
rectangular cabochon 85 4.19%
briolette cut 75 3.69%
octagon cut 74 3.65%
oval cut 70 3.45%
Using a Chi-squared test and hypothesizing that the cut distribution is uniform (any of the 22 cuts is equally likely), we get a P-value of 0.28. I forget my statistics from college so I forget how to compare this to a reasonable level of significance (e.g. P = 0.05). If someone can help with that I would appreciate it. But eye-balling it makes me think that yes, the cuts are all equally likely (~4.5% chance of any given cut). The 0.28 P-value is neither too close to zero or too close to 1 so I'm not sure what to make of it other than we probably need more data to be very sure.

Craft type distribution

Type Count % of total
bracelet 4 44.44%
scepter 2 22.22%
figurine 2 22.22%
amulet 1 11.11%
I wish crafts were more likely, but if I were to guess all types of crafts are probably equally likely. This could perhaps be tested on a more common substance like bones and assume the distribution is the same.

Code and data

So I can show my work:
  • count-items.lua: DFHack Lua script to write out stockpile items
  • Program.cs: C# console app to analyse items and write the results to CSV
  • before-input.txt: the contents of the input (rough gem) stockpile before gem cutting
  • before-output.txt: the contents of the output (cut gems, large gems, gem crafts) stockpile before gem cutting
  • after-input.txt: the contents of the input stockpile after gem cutting
  • after-output.txt: the contents of the output stockpile after gem cutting
  • results.csv: the resulting CSV used for Excel analysis
