Thanks to someone in this group, I was introduced to the monogram Lacoste bags. I wasn’t exactly looking for something similar to Goyard, but I feel like Lacoste accomplishes the same vibe with great quality, using 100% cotton canvas. My daily style is very casual, mostly athletic-wear, so I think this bag will integrate nicely. I do want to say that it’s very small. It’s about the length of my phone which is an iPhone 12max. It won’t fit much more than that, a lip gloss and wallet if needed. Now that I have this one in my hands, I’m temped to get the larger tote. There’s a really cute light blue one that I’ve been eyeing. Here’s the link for the one I got, which is also on sale now. https://www.lacoste.com/us/lacoste/women/bags-leather-goods/crossbody/women-s-zely-canvas-monogram-mini-tote/NF4463ZE.html?color=M44 submitted by Cop_that_bag to handbags [link] [comments]
2024.04.21 23:54 insepsis Help me figure out what my old gear is worth....
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, couldn't find anywhere else to ask this question. This is not a for-sale post, just trying to get more info. I have a few people that mentioned buying it from me and I figured around $1500 would be reasonable for everything but hoping to get your guy's insight/advice.
I have a lot of my old Vinyl equipment from years ago that sadly collects dust. If I don't sell it all as a lot I will keep one of the turntables to use at home for nostalgia and piece the rest of it out.
I wonder if I should try to piece this out or see if I can sell it as a whole (locally since it's so damn heavy...)
Here are some photos of the items:
https://imgur.com/a/Gw8kNRa The kit consists of the following:
- Technics SL-1200 M3D - with Shure M44-7
- Technics SL-1200MK2 - with Shure M44-7
- Vestax PMC 07 Pro 25th Anniversary - Black (fairly rare if I remember correctly)
- Odyssey CBM10E Turntable Coffin
- Native Instruments Audio 8 DJ USB Audio Interface with 8 RCA Inputs with USB and RCA Cales, also comes with 2 Traktor Pro timecode records and some butter rugs. Probably not worth anything at this day and age.
Everything works great, I just haven't used it in several years and it's time to stop hoarding...
Thanks in advance!

2023.12.31 20:26 SFogX [WTS] Do rare pens click with you? with giveaway! and rare OLight!
Hello and welcome to a big ol' EDC sale! Giveaway and OLight are gone, sorry!
Fine, not
all the pens are rare, but most are :) Almost all are catch and release, many from reddit sales in EDCExchange. Honestly, I went crazy trying to find the 'perfect' pen. If someone on
machinedpens said it was great, or that I had to try it, well, I went and found one. Sometimes, that was super difficult... a few months later, I mostly know what I like and don't, so it's time to let some go.
Here's the second batch. Everything here is A- unless stated otherwise -- they've been opened, probably a better refill was swapped in, I wrote for a few minutes, and then put them back in their boxes. Everything here has boxes and either a fresh stock refill or a better one. More pics and videos available by request.
Most of these pens are sold out and hard to find. I'm going to list those for what I paid, including any discounts or negotiation I did with the seller. I broke their hearts for $10 off, so you don't have to break mine!
Timestamp! including numbering of the pens:
https://imgur.com/a/u5mU2GD 1. Q3D SwiftClick – parker tip A- I absolutely love this maker – he discusses all his designs on
machinedpens, announces drops there, and generally is entirely in on the community. My first pen from him was a TwisTi and it’s just nuts gorgeous and has a place of honor here. I picked this one up and it’s well done, just didn’t grab me. Went back into the box. He doesn’t really do returns, given how hard they are to track down, so I’ll sell it here. I bought it for $165 which is still retail price. Buy it from me for $155 and you get free shipping and no sales tax.
It looks exactly like this:
https://www.shopq3d.com/products/swiftclick-preorder-open 2. Inventery Bolt Action Pen v.02 Onyx/M A- Honestly this is a pretty nice one. The little 'pomp' sound you get when you close the bolt almost made me keep it. Bought direct. These list at $125 but they always have a 10% offer so I paid $112.50. They are available now to buy, so let's call this $95.
https://www.inventery.co/products/bolt-action-pen?variant=41693683286188 My pretty pics/vid here:
https://imgur.com/a/Bz0vnl6 3. [B] Prometheus Alpha in copper. I love, love my prometheus alpha in nickel/Ti, and if you haven't written with Mont Blanc refills, you should. I thought, wouldn't it be even better in copper, for that extra weight to hold the pen on the page? And the answer is, yuck, copper pens make my hands smell. Some people are cool with it, not me. Prior owner carried it a month. It of course has patina, because it's copper. It polishes right off.
Bought it here for $155. Available new for $195.
https://darksucks.com/products/alpha-pen-ti https://www.reddit.com/EDCexchange/comments/16btn2v/wts_prometheus_alpha_copper_pen/ My video ... there's no bolt, so I unscrewed the cap! Awesome.
https://imgur.com/a/asj95bJ 4. Schon Dsgn V2 Anniversary Ocean Depths. A- This is a gorgeous pen, and very light, but I'm allergic to pen caps. Except if it's a promtheus alpha, because it's worth putting up with a cap for a mont blanc refill. Anyway, they don't seem to sell the machined aluminum ocean depths any longer, but the other ones are going for $165. I don't have records on this so I'll start at $150 and see who bites. Happy to keep this because it looks nice in the pen box.
https://www.schondsgn.com/products/the-machined-pen-v2-the-anniversary-edition?variant=39916515295365 My pictures, which needed a better CRI flashlight:
https://imgur.com/a/BKXdqCH 5. Fellhoelter Baby Dragon Scale Tiny Bolt A- I mean, this thing's pretty darned cool at a solid EDC. Great mechanism, solid machining. But I have giant meathook hands, so even for ultra portable EDC I need something bigger. Even in this video I drew on my palm. Was listed here at 180. I paid $165, and will pass the savings along to you. https://www.reddit.com/EDCexchange/comments/156wril/wts_nottingham_tactical_fellhoelter_tactile_turn/ Slick pics and video: https://imgur.com/a/uhpZCKC - DDR Darrel Ralph Gents clicker. BNIB … but B
If you like a click mech pen, this one’s solid. Titanium and copper, and of course, I can’t mark a pen with copper as an A due to patina. I’ve never used it, and the seller said the same. I can’t find this mixed metal pen, but the ones I see run 100-200 euros. Let’s start with this at $100 sell value. It has a fisher space pen with an adapter on the end, which sure looks like it runs Parker refills, but I can't get one to work :)
Traded from here:

Wacky v-path bolt mechanism. Love it or hate it? Some signs of use from being carried. Includes extra screws, bolt, and o-ring. My notes say $65. Images: https://imgur.com/a/u5mU2GD 9. Tactile Turn copper Mini Slim Bolt Action – B Tactile Turn, old school. Old clip with two screws. I have a DLC clip and bolt for it as well, if you’d like them. Copper so it has a patina, but zero use by me and minimal reported by original owner. Looks like these go $99 new and I paid $75, so let’s start there but there’s some room to negotiate. SOLD Images: https://imgur.com/a/u5mU2GD 10. Olight S2R Baton II Ti limited edition in courage blue This one’s pretty slick. Prior owner reported no use, just ogling, thought it was too nice to use. I took it out of the box, shined it around my room, compared it to some of my other lights, and decided it was perfectly fine but I prefer my hanklights and Anduril controls. So, it’s never been carried. Very satisfying frag pattern, the blue is perfect, and for an Olight you can actually remove the frickin battery. Looks like these were $130 new, are sold out everywhere, and for some reason I was able to buy it for only $70 and I will pass that along to you. Here's one online: https://www.wayofknife.com/olight-limited-edition-titanium-s2r-baton-ii-courage/ Here’s some pics: https://imgur.com/a/8wPtloO 11. Tom Bihn Cache This is the laptop container pad that you can use standalone, or inside of certain Tom Bihn suitcases and it goes on the rail system. Neat idea, you can open your suitcase and slide your laptop out a bit so it scans properly at the airport. But, I bought the cache with the rails in the wrong direction for my bag, and I kept meaning to swap it and never did. Years later, I never used the cache. Maybe one of you can use it. I measured it as about 10” x 14”. This is a giveaway but you have to pay for shipping, which will probably be $10 or so CONUS but who knows. Sort of like this: https://www.tombihn.com/collections/laptop-bags/products/cache?variant=6900434305087 Pictures: https://imgur.com/a/u5mU2GD LOGISTICS Payment: Prices are net to me. I'll ship free in conus, USPS, insured to $100. I take Zelle, PayPal FF, Venmo. You could mail me cash, too, I guess? :-D At your expense, I'll add more insurance, ship UPS, or take paypal G&S (+3.5% US, +5% WW).
$5 off for each additional purchase. No, that doesn't include the giveaway ;)
I've got 25 trades in EDCExchange, and 18 on
WatchExchange, and 40+ on
Knife_Swap.
Trades? I'm absolutely WTT for any fidgety/bolt pen I haven't tried. I've tried Bastion, BID, Confounded Design, DDR, Fellhoelter, Grimsmo, Honey Badger, Inventery, Kaweco, Keras, Kyle Bracht, Lautie, Machine Era, Magnus, MIG, Modern Fuel, Nottingham, Prometheus, Q3D, Refyne, Ryworx, Schon, SPP, Spoke, Suprlativ, TT, TI Design.
I’m a knife nerd. Current wishlist is Pena X Raptor XL; Kansept Rafe in purple; ZT 0545 magnacut; CKRT mbombo; D rocket spacex; Sangin Corsair; skiff flipper; CJRB frack s90V; Miguron Ekry. But hey, if you have something fidgety, try me.
I'm also a flashlight nerd, looking for a Thrunite T10, Zebralight SC53c N, M44 519a tint ramp, D4K Ti Crackle W2, KR4 Ti, D4k Triple.
And I’m a watch nerd. Lord help me. This would be a trick to make a trade work, but if you’ve got one of these you’re wanting to get rid of and want some pens and cash, let’s chat. AnOrdain, Grand Seiko spring drive, Glashuette Original, Dornblueth, Muehle Glasshutte.

Found through a local sale. I’ve been looking for one since I started collecting a little over a year ago. Never thought I’ve ever own one and especially at the price. My russian collection so far on the last picture. Pictures of the Svt markings attached as well, any markings of note? Came with 2 extra mags, he was asking $2000 so I bought a 38 nagant revolver for $500 from him as well. M44 next? Shout out to another local collector who sent me the listing, we’ve never met but if he didn’t tell me about it I definitely would have missed it. submitted by StinkerAce to MosinNagant [link] [comments]
2023.08.27 01:55 JAWNEHBOY Update: Amazing Customer Service from Hank!
My original post I recently posted looking for help diagnosing my D4K which all of a sudden stopped outputting anything from the main emitters. After trying all the suggested troubleshooting steps, I decided I'd just have to talk to Hank himself and see if he'd send me a boost driver for free so I could attempt to replace it with some soldering advice from YouTube.
I was already saving up for a DW4 as my next light, but with the sale I had to jump on an M44 too. I emailed Hank after placing my order, and he quickly responded that the solder job would be difficult, and he'd include a brand new head for my D4K with my order!
With all the rave reviews about Hank's customer service I thought he'd do me a solid with the driver, but I did not expect basically an entire new light!
Now the hard part is deciding what to order next. . .

2023.08.13 02:22 Slay3rOne Not quite a 10+ flair, but my current Hanklights collection (+beams comparison)
Finally took the time to take some photos of the current state of my Hanklights collection! Got them all on a small shelf over my desk, next to the PC. Looks like that shelf will let me reach the 10+ flair at some point, but won't allow me add more... 🤣 Not quite the 10+ flair, but getting dangerously close at 9 so far! Let's have a closer look at each one! (My Smart Doll Ruby helping me take cool photos 😂) Let's start with my latest addition, arrived yesterday! D4K copper, stainless bezel/ring, amber switch, E17A 1850K, stock floody optics. Got a Molicel P42A inside. Absolutely love those emitters, and it goes really well with the copper. One of my top 3 favorites for sure! At first I wanted to go with brass, but I much prefered getting a D4K, and Hank hit me with the classic "we don't have the plan" LOL. So after much thinking, I decided to go with copper. I do not regret that choice! It's gorgeous! But I'll see how it ages, what I think about the patina all over later on. D4K Cu / E17A 1850K DT8K blue anodized alu, cyan switch, single channel 8x W2 (6000K). Also a Molicel P42A inside. I kept hearing how super bright these could be, and it took me quite a while before deciding on getting one. But damn... what an absolute wall of light! It's not the prettiest high CRI beam or anything, but it just turns night into day outside, or fills an entire room with light even during the day. I understand now haha! Plus I really like the form factor of that light. I might get another DT8K later on, but not sure which emitters. Maybe the criss cross pattern E21A in tint ramping, but I already have my M44 in tint ramping, so not sure. Any recommandations? DT8K / W2 6000K Now, an absolute classic to my eyes. D4V2 titanium, cool white switch, SST-20 4000K 95CRI FA3 bin, boost driver. With a Molicel P26A inside. I just love this light! At first I thought well, it's a bit heavy... but I ended up really liking the extra weight of it after using it for a while. Really like the beam and tint. Sadly once it got some water on the outside shortly, and it somehow killed it... Hank was able to send me a replacement head and here it is back in my collection! I will try and repair the damaged one at some point, maybe swap the emitters to some 219B SW45K (never tried those!) and get a stonewashed Ti body. Will see. D4V2 Ti / SST-20 4000K FA3 Well, the latest model released at the time. M44 Meteor stone white, cool white switch, 519A domed 5700K on CH1 and 519A domed 2700K on CH2. Got 3x Samsung 30Q in. I wanted a high CRI flashlight to assist in some photography (mostly on 5700K). And at the same time, I always wanted a high output tint ramping light, so I thought it would be a perfect candidate for it. Sure enough, I'm not disappointed! That said, I'm considering dedoming the 2700K to get an even warmer tint... but with the stock optics I seem to understand it could look weird. So maybe I should switch to the floody optics. Not sure yet. I don't want mid ramp to be too rosy either, so I'm not really sure about that whole thing. Any advise on that? Anyone tried dedome on one channel, and domed on the other? M44 (dual channel) / 519A domed 2700K & 5700K DM11 grey anodized alu, amber switch, B35AM R9080 3500K, less throwy optic. Yet another Molicel P42A inside. Another one of my favs, but I don't use this one too often. Its beam shape and tint just reminds me a lot about the good old incandescent bulb flashlights! So I really enjoy using it from time to time. But since I tend to use it inside, being on the throwy side makes it a bit less practical to me in general. Love the look of this light as well! DM11 / B35AM 3500K THE floodethrower. DM1.12 stone white alu, cool white switch, 519A domed mix of 5700K and 4500K on the flood channel, and SFT-40 6500K on the throw channel. I had to ask Hank for the domed 519As and I was glad he accepted! I did that mix before he had the 5000K, as it gets real close, and I really like this tint. It has a Molicel P42A, but I also have the longer tube and some QB26800. I tend to prefer the cheese grater look LOL, with a smaller overall body. This really floods a lot on the outer ring! When I got my M44 after, I realised the DM1.12 floods much more! Before getting this, my main flood/throw combo was the LH351D/W1 in the D4SV2 (below), but now whenever I need both, I grab the DM1.12. It really does a great job! DM1.12 (dual channel) / 519A domed mix 5700K-4500K & SFT-40 6500K This was my entry in the custom flashlights world, first Hanklight almost exactly 2 years ago! D4V2 antique brass, stainless bezel, warm white switch, E21A 2700K, 7.5A driver. Got a Molicel P26A inside. I really tried to get something unique back then, and I wanted to get one of the warmest high CRI emitters, so I went for the E21A in 2700K. I realised 2700K was not quite exactly what I had in mind, plus brass does weigh a ton really... Now I enjoy the E17A 1850K much more tbh. I had this flashlight as my bedside lamp, but I'll probably be moving to the E17A now, so this light might not see much use in the future, sadly. I might be reselling it soon, I'll see! D4V2 Brass / E21A 2700K D4K stone white alu, dual channel, stonewashed titanium bezel, red switch, 519A domed 5000K on CH1 and SST-20 deep red on CH2, floody optics (cause the red has artifacts on clear optics). So this was... unnecessary LOL. It was my first D4K back when it was released not long ago. I was looking for a configuration I'd like, and I thought hell, let's give the SST-20 deep red a try, alongside an emitter I really appreciate as the primary channel. The red is very... red haha. It's impressive really, but let's just say I don't use this light too often really. I might also be reselling this one soon, I'll see! D4K (dual channel) / 519A domed 5000K & SST-20 deep red Last one. D4SV2 black anodised alu, dual channel, cyan switch, stainless bezel, LH351D 5000K 90CRI on CH1 and W1 (6000K) on CH2. Got both 26650 and 26800 body, currently with a QB26800 inside, but I used to swap with some Efest 5000mAh cells at times. That was part of my second order, early 2022. Back when I got this, I was still new to the hobby, and I spent a lot of time trying to decide what emitters to get, as I wanted to see flood and throw with my own eyes, and cold CCT this time. It definitely did not disappoint, I enjoyed it for quite some time really! But since I got my hands on the others, especially the DM1.12, it has been sitting unused for a while, unfortunately. This was before the 519A was a thing, and after that, it pretty much replaced the LH351D for me. This light will be for sale soon! D4SV2 (dual channel) / LH351D 5500K & W1 6000K Well, that's it, all 9 of 'em! As I mentionned, I might downsize my collection a little and sell the last 3 at some point soon (without batteries). How do I sell lights here, anything special? The others though are absolute keepers for me! I could say I'm done now, but it's never really the case 😅 I mentionned maybe wanting to try the 219B emitter, and also I have no mule... Would love to do a custom E17A 1850K mule for example, or think of something else, I don't know. I won't go for pure flooders in the future, as I have little to no use for them really. If only Hank had the plan for a single emitter 14500 light (instead of the right angle model), I would get a bunch of these with various emitters. Also a brass (not antique) D4K, would love that too! Oh well... Maybe I'll get one of the right angles at some point, either the small D2 or a DW4. What do you guys use right angle flashlights for? It would be a first for me really. Alright. Can't end the post without showing some beams!! Here is a comparison! Primary channel. Shot on Sony A6600, did my best for the white balance. Secondary channel for the dual channel lights. EDIT: Fixed SST-20 FA3 was 4000K and not 4500K. EDIT2: Fixed SFT-40 was 6500K and not 6700K. submitted by Slay3rOne to Hanklights [link] [comments]

2023.04.20 21:06 zman2100 Two Months of using a AWB OneSky 130mm Telescope as a Complete Beginner
I have owned an AWB OneSky 130mm for right around 2 months now (received on February 24th), and after spending two months with it as a complete beginner, I wanted to share my thoughts and experiences. I am brand new to amateur astronomy and have never owned a telescope before now. I was given another telescope as a gift in mid-February and came to this sub seeking advice (which you can see
here), and returned it and bought the OneSky. Being thrown into a hobby due to being given a gift is certainly an odd experience, but credit to my wife for recognizing that this is something I'd likely enjoy doing if given the chance.
So, what resources did I use to get started? - This sub was the first place I came, as I said above. The pinned buying guide was essential to pointing me in the right direction as I started to suspect that the gifted telescope I'd received was actually bad and there are better options. Being able to come and ask questions and get answers from experienced people was great, and searching the archives and finding past discussions has also been helpful.
- AWB OneSky Cloudy Nights thread - This is another place that has been excellent. I don't know if other scopes have dedicated threads there, but for the OneSky the thread has been excellent. It's been another place to go and get answers to questions and read through past discussions that are all about the OneSky, whereas this sub obviously has much broader discussions.
- Sky Safari 7 Plus - Absolutely phenomenal app and has been essential to me learning the sky and learning where to find good targets. I'll share my observed objects list below, and the entire reason it's as long as it is is due to Sky Safari being an irreplaceable tool for me learning.
- Astrospheric - Great app for using to figure out if you'll have a good night or not, particularly if you're trying to plan even a short drive out to darker skies.
- Local Astronomy Club - This gets mentioned a lot, but joining your local club is great. I've already done two outreach events with them and attended a general meeting, and being able to work side by side with someone who has years or decades of experience is something you won't get to do if you don't join a club or go to events. My club has a dark site an hour outside of my city in Bortle 2 that I haven't visited yet but intend to as soon as I'm able, and I'd imagine most other clubs are similar across the country.
- AliExpress Scope Accessories List - Compiled by u/__Augustus_, this is a list of vetted links to items available direct from China for much cheaper than what you'd pay at a US retailer. The dirty secret is that off-brand and name-brand eyepieces are made in the same factories and then branded later and sold for a mark-up, and this list helped me sort through and find some items to purchase that allowed me to save some money.
What equipment have I purchased in addition to the scope? - IKEA KYRRE Stool - The OneSky is a tabletop dob, so it needs to sit on something. The linked IKEA stool is the perfect fit and is only $25. I will say that it places the scope in a slightly awkward spot for viewing, as it's in between being comfortable for sitting or standing unless it's pointed straight up, but an astronomy chair or adjustable stool could help rectify that issue. I may attempt to build something for it to sit on, but for now the IKEA stool will do.
- Harbor Freight Apache 3800 Case - I would have bought the slightly smaller 2800 case, but when I went to the store the 3800 was on sale for $30, the same price as the 2800. It's definitely large for the small collection of eyepieces and accessories I currently have, but I can grow into it as I add. Solid case for the price, especially when compared to Pelican cases.
- Black Diamond Headlamp - I actually already owned this but discovered that it has a red light function that I'd never used, so it now lives with my scope stuff.
- 3D-Printed Light Shroud and Flocking Paper - I learned quickly from reading here and at Cloudy Nights that a collapsible scope like the OneSky really needs a shroud to elevate the scope's performance. My friend has a 3D printer and printed it for me for free with an old spool, and then I painted it and lined it with flocking paper.
- Mounted Green Laser - This has been an absolute game-changer. The OneSky comes with a Red Dot Finder that is decent enough, but when you're pointing at anything higher than 30 degrees, it's a literal pain in the neck to use because of how low you have to get to use it. Popular finders like RACI scopes and Telrad are too large for the small collapsible tube of the OneSky, and as such options are limited to upgrade beyond the RDF. The laser pointer is perfect for this; it comes with a corded button that can be turned on and off quickly and makes it really easy to point the scope where you want to with little effort. I've seen generally positive sentiment around using a mounted laser, but I've also seen some discussion of it being a bad option due to the potential dangers of using it, namely it having the potential to blind or be a problem with planes. Checking the sky for planes before using is easy enough, and I intentionally take the battery out of the mount when I'm not using it to prevent accidental activations. I also don't use it at outreach events where there's a lot of people around. But given that 95% of my observing time so far (albeit with a small 2 month sample size) has been either alone or with only one other adult aware of the risks, the laser has been a great option with low risk of causing problems.
- Eyepieces
- Celestron X-Cel LX 25mm - Excellent eyepiece for this scope and a worthy upgrade over the included 25mm. Has a wider FOV and significantly better eye relief. I got to try one out before ordering when a club member let me use his at an outreach event.
- SVBONY Redline 9mm - Another great upgrade over the included 10mm, particularly for the price. The 25mm stock EP is at least useable, but the 10mm stock EP is really bad with annoyingly short eye relief.
- Celestron Omni 2x Barlow - Can't be beat for the price, and I couldn't notice any difference in using this vs a more expensive Barlow borrowed from a club member.
- Potential future purchases
- Higher power eyepiece (likely something in the 3.25-7" range for when planets are back)
- Binoculars - would love to have a good pair of 10x50 binos in the future to put in my case and use alongside the OneSky
- Astronomy chair - may buy one, but more likely to make an attempt to build one. May start with something like this that is easy yet functional
- Filters - I'm conflicted about this one, as it seems most filters aren't actually that good, but there does seem to be a consensus that UHC and OIII filters can actually be worthwhile buys
What have I been able to see? First off, a note on my observing conditions. I am in a large Florida city in Bortle 6-7 and my house has a street lamp in the front yard and heavy tree coverage in the back, so I don't have great viewing opportunities at home. However, my in-laws are about 20 minutes away on the coast line in Bortle 4 just between two cities, so I have twice made a trip out to sit on their dock over a marsh and had a great time. Most of this list was done alone with Sky Safari as my guide; the two outreach events I did with my club mostly just hit the highlights you'd expect while doing outreach. With all that said, here is what I've observed in the OneSky in my first 2 months:
- Local Objects:
- The moon (duh) - The moon sucks when it keeps you from viewing DSOs, but at least for now I am still fascinated by looking at it, particularly at high mag. As a bonus, it's great no matter how bad your light pollution is.
- Jupiter - could clearly see the 4 moons but never was able to make out surface detail; it was already getting low on the horizon and I only had the 10mm stock EP at the time, so 65x mag just wasn't powerful enough to see anything. I'm looking forward to it coming back.
- Venus - never more than a bright disc
- Mars - just looks like a red star because of how far away it is at the moment
- Uranus - just a little blue disc
- Deep Sky Objects
- M3 - Globular Cluster in Canes Venatici
- M5 - Globular Cluster in Serpens
- M13 - Hercules Cluster
- M41 - Open Cluster in Canis Major
- M42 - Orion Nebula
- M44 - Beehive Cluster
- M45 - The Pleiades
- M51 - Whirlpool Galaxy
- M68 - Globular Cluster in Hydra
- M81+82 - Bode's Nebulae
- M92 - Globular Cluster in Hercules
- NGC 2264 - Christmas Tree Cluster
I've also split some double stars but admittedly haven't done a great job of keeping track of those. Open clusters in my opinion make for the best targets in the OneSky, with globulars also being decent. Beehive and Pleiades are my favorites so far. I admittedly could probably see globulars even better with higher power, but right now I'm limited to 144x or less with my current EP collection. M13 is the best globular I've seen, with stars able to be resolved at 144x. Others either have required averted vision to resolve or can't be resolved at all and only appear as bright smudges. Galaxies are nothing but faint smudges, with M81 being the easiest to see the faint haze of the structure. M31/Andromeda was already dropping too low on the horizon for me to see, so I haven't actually observed it yet. M42 is obviously very impressive, with the faint haze of nebulosity able to be seen at 72x while also being able to see the Trapezium. Getting a brand new scope in February was a blessing and a curse: a blessing because M42 is such an awesome target in even a small scope, but a curse because it sets bad expectations for what other DSOs will look like when you put them in the scope.
What else? Time for some random thoughts and musings, mostly about my experience of learning and doing so much so quickly.
- Observing is NOT like looking at astro photographs! This is the biggest thing with which I had to come to grips. Everyone, no matter where they're starting from, has seen awesome astro shots. Whether it be from Hubble (or now JWST) or an amateur with good equipment, most people have seen some fantastic photos of how beautiful space is. Using a 5" telescope in your backyard is NOT going to be anything like looking at those photos. I had to completely reset my expectations of what I'd be able to see, but that isn't a bad thing. For me, half the fun has been finding stuff on my own and having a sense of achievement from that. I was ecstatic when I found M3 in my backyard for the first time a few nights ago, and I continue to feel that way every time I find a new target for the first time or even find a difficult target on subsequent times.
- Aperture envy is real. It's only been two months and I'm already looking at marketplace forums/websites for used 8 or 10" dobs. I saw an 8" for $200 the other day and it was gone in an hour. That said, I've made the decision to stick it out with the OneSky for at least a year before upgrading unless I see a truly this-seller-has-no-idea-what-they-have kind of deal. It's a great scope and I will continue to learn a lot from using it.
- Outreach is fun! Even though I'd only had my scope for a month, going with my club to help do a Girls Scouts event was a rewarding experience and I already knew enough to be helpful and educational in talking about astronomy and putting my scope on targets for observation.
- Journals/logs are a must. I didn't realize this until a week or two ago, but having record of when I first viewed an object and describing what it looks like is something I wish I had started from the beginning. Currently I'm using Sky Safari's built-in observing session tools, but I'm open to looking at other digital options. I'm not a pen-and-paper kind of guy, so let me know if there are some other good tools out there. My biggest fear in using Sky Safari's admittedly great tools is that there doesn't seem to be a way to export logs, which means I could lose access to them should the service shut down.
- Imaging with a dob and a smartphone is a waste of time. I bought a cheap $10 eyepiece mount and grabbed this image of M42 the first night I spent at the Bortle 4 location. Looking back, it's a cool thing I was able to do but I have shelved the mount and spend zero time trying to grab photos since then. The photo is pretty good for the equipment I used but is very bad by any other metric. I spent probably 30 minutes of my 2 hour session trying to grab that photo which ultimately to me is a waste of time that could have been spent observing. I'm not opposed to getting into imaging down the road, but if I do it will be with equipment made for imaging.
- ADDITIONAL EDIT: Dark skies make a big difference! I live in Bortle 6-7 and driving just 20 minutes to Bortle 4 makes such a huge difference in what I’m able to see. Some of the tougher targets I’ve found are impossible at my house given the light pollution, while the darker location either enables them to be seen at all or at a minimum makes it easier to find things.
I'm sure there's some stuff I'm forgetting, but this post is long enough already. In conclusion, this is an awesome hobby and the OneSky is a great beginner scope, and I can't wait to keep learning more.

TLDR; UK guy married to Canadian woman. Wife not managing our finances well, a large amount of debt, and she's involved in so many projects she can't keep up with anything, including getting her Canadian taxes filed to sponsor me, and won't listen or take things seriously.
Don't know what to do or how to handle her.
Long version:
I (M44) am from the UK and married to a Nova Scotian (F34), and we have a 6 year old daughter.
We were in the UK but she decided she wanted to move back to Canada. She and our daughter went first, and I followed a while after. It was my understanding that we'd do my permanent residency when I got here.
My wife has a problem, she has six (6) business projects on the go, including one that services dozens of other businesses. She is overstretched both financially and logistically. I have always been the submissive one in the relationship, so when I've tried to talk her down from doing so much it doesn't go well. Furthermore, she is in complete control of our finances, and I have access to and little knowledge of all the places we owe money. There's a lot of credit cards, and one or two loans, to my knowledge, but there are bank transactions to companies that I don't recognize. Also, she spends irresponsibly, and I've not been able to stop her, I've just been too passive, and I'm paying for that now. Literally and figuratively.
Finances: I knew for a while that things were slipping (because she's so busy), but I've slowly been discovering more and more. We have a lot of debt in both countries. I recently discovered that she has over 4K (CAD) on a
45% credit card. This was the final straw for me.
Also, she has been too busy to even file her taxes, so she hasn't been even eligible to sponsor me. I am currently beyond my initial 6 month visitor stay and am in "maintained status" while I await a decision on my application to extend the visitor visa.
On the subject of being too busy, she has a company registered in the UK, which is on the verge of being struck off because she hasn't yet filed the taxes.
At the moment she is actually in the UK, preparing our UK house for sale. She wants to use the money to fix up another property that she owns here in Canada (under a private mortgage with a family member which I believe she is behind payments on) in order to sell it. The UK house is under my name, and I'm drafting a letter where I'm going to tell her that I will not sign without full disclosure of our debts, and that the money from the house sale must be used to pay our debts, and that the money will be paid into an account that she doesn't have access to.
I'm also hearing from friends and family whom work for her, that she hasn't paid them for several weeks.
Our own personal finances are going into propping up her business, especially at times when clients don't pay her etc.
I work freelance, and I bring home a healthy amount, but I have nothing. Even when we sell my house, that's going to disappear into debt, assuming I can get her on board with it.
When she is tackled about things, she always minimizes, says I'm overreacting or acts like the victim. In the case of talking to her about my residency, her solution was for me to go into the USA for a few days then come back with a fresh 6 month visitor status!
What do I do? How should I handle this situation?
I could just say to hell with it and return to the UK, but there's my daughter. Her life is here and it would be unfair to uproot her, so I have to try to stay here. And then there's how do I go on with my wife who is on the course she is on and won't listen to anyone? To be honest I don't even know how to get her out the hole she's in, it's all too much.
I have been gaslighted so much over the years that I am constantly doubting my own sanity on all this.
I need advice and guidance please.

2023.02.08 01:49 dominator_05_ M44 value?
My local pawn shop has 2 m44s for sale. I’m thinking about buying one, which I believe is a Romanian m44. They’re asking $350 and from what I’ve found elsewhere this seems to be a pretty good deal but I thought I’d check here first. It’s in fairly good condition from what I could tell.

2022.12.04 20:07 edharrison007 Looking for some advice
I have been a heavy drinker most of my life, m44. I am in b2b sales which does see me entertain a lot.
My partner and I would, if I have to be honest with ourselves drink a bottle of wine each on average 4-5 days a week. We both acknowledge it is not a life we want to live.
Could anyone offer some tips on what they did to change these habits.
Thank you for your thoughts in advance.

2022.09.17 15:26 MarioGroups Launch of Group M44
Group M44 launched to buy Lotto Max tickets for the September 20 draw. Cost to join is $20 per share.
The $70 million Lotto Max jackpot for the September 16 draw was not won and is capped at $70 million plus an estimated 23 Maxmillions for the September 20 draw. None of the ten Maxmillions were won. Sales of $39.8 million were 14% higher than average and 42% higher than the previous draw. There was a 79% chance the jackpot would not be won, a 19% chance of 1 winning ticket and a 2% chance of 2 or more winners. The expected value was above average at 62%. The jackpot and Maxmillions were fully funded from sales.
There are discrepancies in the prize payouts for the September 13 Lotto Max draw as reported by Lotto Quebec in comparison to the other lottery jurisdictions. For example, Lotto Quebec reports 2 Maxmillions were won whereas only 1 Maxmillions was reported won in other jurisdictions. Players should hold off redeeming their tickets until the problem is corrected, otherwise they may be paid a lower, incorrect amount.

2022.06.06 13:23 pcvcolin Understanding H.R. 7910 and H.R. 8, How they Function, and why you should oppose them
What H.R. 7910 and H.R. 8 are - and why it's important to consider them together Hello, first let's get into what H.R. 7910 and H.R. 8 are. These are gun control bills that are being moved quickly currently through U.S. Congress. H.R. 7910 is a bill that is technically made up of language from various other bills in an effort to sidestep what would normally be a longer process involving multiple bills. It recently had a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee.
Now the important details:
H.R. 7910 has passed the House Judiciary Committee and soon will pass the House. (EDIT: As of evening of 6/8/2022, H.R. 7910 has passed the House. It now goes to the Senate.)
H.R. 8 has passed the House, was received in the Senate, and has been placed on the Senate Legislative Calendar (!!). (This happened between 3/01 and 5/25.)
Edit, late add:
H.R. 2377 (a red flags bill that was voted on along with H.R. 7910) was also approved in the House and now is in the Senate. Please oppose this as well.
All of these should be opposed in the Senate. Write to your Reps and Senators:
https://democracy.io/ These two (H.R. 7910 and H.R. 8) bills together would prevent most (18 to 20 year old) Americans from owning or transferring even curio and relic firearms such as the M-1 Garand, and would prevent transfer of a curio and relic firearm such as the SKS fixed magazine (10 round) firearm. They not only would eliminate the capability for many Americans to own or transfer Glocks or similar modern pistols, and AR pattern firearms, but as well would effectively prohibit ownership and transfer of even curio and relic firearms that are by definition over 50 years old, and many of which typically have 8 or 10 round magazines. Further, H.R. 7910 in particular would create a definition for "large capacity feeding devices" and thus make self defense with reasonable magazine sizes (17 or 20 round magazines) illegal. These two laws together would frustrate the process of transfers from, for example, grandfather to grandson or granddaughter, father to son or mother to daughter, etc. H.R. 2377, the third bill, is simply another way to unconstitutionally remove firearms from civilian ownership. The bills are together essentially part of a larger battle against gun owners, and should be opposed.
Why is this so? H.R. 7910 proposes to add requirements, in part, that you would need to be 21, in order to own,
- a semiautomatic centerfire rifle or semiautomatic centerfire shotgun that has,
or has the capacity to accept,
an ammunition feeding device with a capacity exceeding 5 rounds, (... )
(Note: A Mosin-Nagant (M91-30, M44, etc.) is a bolt action rifle with a five round fixed magazine. An SKS in its original, 10 round fixed magazine configuration is a semiautomatic firearm. An M-1 Garand has an 8 round capacity and is a semiautomatic firearm. A Glock 17 Gen3 is a semiautomatic pistol which has magazines available in 10 round and 17 round (or larger) depending on the state you are in. None of these (except the Mosin-Nagants as the examples I mentioned) would be available to persons under 21 under this proposed bill. The language "has the capacity to accept" forecloses on any opportunity for a magblock solution - the 18 to 20 year old segment is deemed not worthy by Congress of having the right of self defense.)
- a firearm other than a shotgun, a rifle, or such a semiautomatic centerfire rifle or semiautomatic centerfire shotgun
(and in the case of any other shotgun or rifle, and would need to be at least 18 years of age)
H.R. 8 proposes to add requirements, in part, as follows:
(a) In General.—Section 922 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:
“(aa) (1) (A)
It shall be unlawful for any person who is not a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer to transfer a firearm to any other person who is not so licensed, unless a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer has first taken possession of the firearm for the purpose of complying with subsection (t).
What does subsection (t) say in the current law to which the proposed law section above refers?
***(t)(1)***
Beginning on the date that is 30 days after the Attorney General notifies licensees under section 103(d) of the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act that the national instant criminal background check system is established, a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer shall not transfer a firearm to any other person who is not licensed under this chapter, unless— (A) before the completion of the transfer, the licensee contacts the national instant criminal background check system established under section 103 of that Act;(B)(i) the system provides the licensee with a unique identification number; or***(ii)***
3 business days (meaning a day on which State offices are open) have elapsed since the licensee contacted the system, and the system has not notified the licensee that the receipt of a firearm by such other person would violate subsection (g) or (n) of this section, or State, local, or Tribal law; and***(C)***
the transferor has verified the identity of the transferee by examining a valid identification document (as defined in section 1028(d) of this title) of the transferee containing a photograph of the transferee. (...) Supposedly, there is an exception in this proposed law, as follows (where the transfer restrictions above shall not apply to, for example, the following):
"a transfer or exchange (which, for purposes of this subsection, means an in-kind transfer of a firearm of the same type or value) that is a
loan or bona fide gift between spouses, between domestic partners, between parents and their children, including step-parents and their step-children, between siblings, between aunts or uncles and their nieces or nephews, or between grandparents and their grandchildren, if the transferor has no reason to believe that the transferee will use or intends to use the firearm in a crime or is prohibited from possessing firearms under State or Federal law;"
It appears therefore that H.R. 8 and H.R. 7910 are provided together in order to divide and frustrate people in the gun community. On the one hand, H.R. 8 at least does provide for OPLAW / parent to child / grandparent to grandchild transfers (even though it's a horribly written bill). On the other, it's pretty obvious that H.R. 7910 would, if it becomes law, ban people from 18 to 20 years of age from becoming recipients even of a gift of a weapon that is handed down by their parent or grandparent and would also (if H.R. 7910 becomes law) result in inheritances not being able to take place. In the end, it's likely that H.R. 8 and H.R. 7910 were written as a joint effort to attempt to reduce the possible ability of people who might be able to exercise their rights via a transfer process.
Both these bills should be voted down, not approved. In California, under current law, for handguns to be transferred to persons 18 to 20 years of age, PC (Penal Code) Section 27510 prohibits dealers from facilitating handgun transfers to those who are 18-20 years of age, so OPLAW/PC 27875 is almost the only option for such a transfer, because retail sales and non-family private party transfer are out of the question. PC 27505 prohibits a sale of a pistol to anyone 18-20 in general, so gift is really the only option (unless the parent or grandparent passed away in California, the 18-20 year old lives in California, and the pistol is passed to the 18-20 year old by inheritance, in which case the 18-20 year old has a short period, 30 days after the testator effectively passes on and transfers the firearm asset to the 18-20 year old, in order to consult with the lawyer and / or executor involved for the parent or grandparent’s matters, and then file the intrafamilial firearm transaction form on CFARS). In the alternative, somebody under the age of 21 but over the age of 18 can legally buy a handgun but only if it was made before the year 1899 or loads from the muzzle using black powder for propellant. Additionally, such a handgun does not have to be sold through a licensed firearms dealer (and antique pistol / antique replica pistols can be sent direct to one's door).
Some of you reading this will ask why I'm not covering the various other gun bills pending before Congress. I feel these two are the most significant ones for the time being although I'll briefly mention the others at the end I feel you should also be aware of.

Late edit: H.R. 2377 - a red flags bill that has been pushed through the House and now is on its way to the Senate.
H.R. 3015: Rep. Brown’s bill that would make felons out of Americans under age 21 to own AR-15s and hundreds of similar firearms.
H.R. 6370 / H.R. 130: Rep. Slotkin’s and Rep. Jackson’s bills that would make felons out of Americans who own firearms and have kids in their home, unless those guns are locked up 24 hours a day.
H.R. 2510: Rep. Deutch’s bill that would make felons out of Americans who buy any magazine that holds over ten rounds of ammunition.
H.R. 2280: Rep. Kelly’s bill that would make felons out of Americans who buy a gun for someone with the intent of selling or giving it to someone else -- which is already illegal.
H.R. 748: Rep. DeLauro’s bill that mimics the storage requirements found in H.R. 6370 above, on federal and tribal properties.
H.R. 3088: Rep. Cicilline’s bill that makes felons out of Americans who own an unserialized / homemade firearm. This bill would send you to prison unless you put a number on your firearms and gave it to the federal government.
H.R. 5427: Rep. Titus’s bill that makes felons out of Americans who own an unregistered bump stock. The left is scared that a court will vacate the President’s order on this, and want to put this tyranny into law.
Other: (Factoring Criteria for Firearms with Attached Stabilizing Braces - ATF-2021-0002) - pending, not yet finalized as of this date.
Others (late edit): Related bills referenced directly under H.R. 7910.
https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/7910/related-bills All these must be opposed as well.
Conclusion / Recommendation: Congress must overturn the rule (Factoring Criteria for Firearms with Attached Stabilizing Braces - ATF-2021-0002), which is pending as of this date (6/9/2022).
Congress must vote to approve S.J. Res. 45 and H.J. Res. 86 (Providing for congressional disapproval under Chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of a rule submitted by the Department of Justice relating to "Definition of 'Frame or Receiver' and Identification of Firearms".)
Congress must vote against H.R. 7910 'H.R. 7910, Protecting Our Kids Act.
Congress must vote against H.R. 3015, H.R. 6370 / H.R. 130, H.R. 2510, H.R. 2280, H.R. 748, H.R. 3088, H.R. 7545, H.R. 5427, H.R. 8, H.Res.1153 / H.R. 2377, S.1108, S.1558 (this includes related gun bills under H.R. 7910 as well as others), and any other gun control bill.
Congress must defer to the U.S. Supreme Court and look for NYSRPA v Bruen and accept the decision.
This is meant to put Congress on notice that our rights are not negotiable, not as a demand that Congress perform a job which it has essentially abandoned.

2022.05.26 07:29 Less_Republic5253 Should I move to another city for my partner of 6 years? I have two autistic sons aged 17 and 15. Partner says they don't have any friends here anyway.
I (F38, high-functioning autistic) met by partner (M44) 6 years ago. He has two daughters who were 3 years old back then, and they were staying with him every other weekend.
We both own a house. Mine is in a rather big city with a university, his is about 1.5 hours drive away. He's been working in my city the last few years, so he often stayed at my house during the week.
My partner applied for custody of his daughters a couple of years ago because their mother kept moving around and seemed to neglect them. Lengthy process, but we just found out he won. But... The one condition is that they have to stay in the smallish town they live in right now, about 2.5 hours from here. Not what we expected.
My partner immediately set his house up for sale and is looking for a house in his girls' hometown. Of course, I totally understand this decision, and it's the right thing to do for the girls. They need stability.
Now the issue. My partner would like me to come live with him and the girls. I like the girls a lot, but I HATE the idea.
I have two (high-functioning) autistic sons aged 17 and 15. My eldest one is already preparing to move out (he will stay in this city) once he turns 18, and he will be done with "High school" next summer. My youngest will finish normal school in a few weeks, but he had some serious mental health issues the past two years (depression, anxiety, OCD) so he will take a break before continuing his education.
My partner says that my sons don't have any real friends anyway (they struggle with social stuff, but they have a few friends, they rarely see them IRL, though), that my eldest one is moving out soon anyway, and that, if he had to be honest, my youngest one probably won't make it to university anyway, since he is struggling so much right now. I'm self-employed so not tied to this city, and I'm from abroad, so I have no family here either.
I'm honestly unsure if I'm just too close-minded and afraid of change that I'm rejecting the idea of moving to this town so much. Am I too clingy? I know my sons are almost grown up now, but I feel like I'm leaving them behind if I would move. I've been thinking about this constantly for two weeks now, and I can't seem to get any closer to a solution.
Any piece of advice would be highly appreciated!

2022.04.10 13:28 kroxxii Total life change, should we go for it?
Me (f33) and hubby (m44) moved from my country to his in December 2021. We are actually supposed to go back around September, but we just love it so much here and don’t really want to. There is a business for sale in our village, a bookshop. We have seen their numbers and they look good (my husband is a professor of accounting and business). But, there are some things that have stopped us from buying it this far, and we just cannot make up our minds. So I’ll list some pros and cons below:
Getting the shop and stay here for good.
Pros 1. Getting to live here permanently! 2. Our house here is much bigger and nicer than our flat back in my city. We are trying to have kids now and this place is perfect. 3. We have 3 cats, but really want a dog too (our cats are all great with dogs) and this is on the countryside and very animal friendly. 4. I need to take my drivers license, which will cost me about 700 euros here. 4000 in my country. 5. Less stressful life in general 6. Running a shop would also really help with meeting people and improve my language skills. 7. I have lots of experience from being a store manager and I enjoy working in retail.
Cons: 1. I have been struggling a little to get friends here, but I guess that will get better with time. Also, lots of regular activities have been shut down because of COVID. 2. To buy the library we’d have to sell our flat in my country. That means that, we’d be fucked if we wanted to return. Real estate prices are insanely high and we would never manage to enter that market again. Also, our flat is increasing in value A LOT every year (150 000 euros up in 6 years) so it’s not so economically wise to sell it yet. 3. I really like my job (that I’m working from home with now), and I would have to quit it. 4. My husband has to leave 3 months a year to teach and I’d be alone here, although he’d visit and I’d visit of course. 5. If we have kids in my country we’d have to sell our flat and move anyway.
