2024.05.22 03:50 SentenceHistorical65 Need advice for my almost 10 year old daughter

Ok, as an elementary special education teacher (not teaching in my daughters’ district) I am in need of some advice to help my daughter, almost 10 in 4th grade, to deal with some mean girl behavior at her school. For background, my daughter gets straight A’s in school and always has, does her best to get along with everyone (at home can be a tad bossy with little sister at times), gets great marks in school for her behavior in class and towards others, and has quite a few close friends. She is constantly reading whenever she gets a chance and devours books. She is very musical, plays ukulele and takes lessons outside of the home, and plays cello in the school orchestra. She is super into theater and has done local theater since kindergarten as well as scored the role of the scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz in this years 4th and 5th grade drama club show at school. She loves to sing and is in many school clubs including inclusive ones like Best Buddies. I know, I know, she sounds like the perfect kid, but we’ve worked really hard to make sure we are raising her the right way. She is also a huge eco warrior and cares deeply about lots of things. She can give me a hard time at home because she’s a 10-year-old girl, but overall, I couldn’t be prouder of what an amazing person she is turning out to be.
She had casually mentioned to me about this one girl we will call Virginia. She said they were in gym and were practicing balancing tennis balls on racquets while walking and high fiving the other kids. Virginia gave her a high 5 and then immediately said, “Ew, I didn’t know that it was you.” I told her to ignore the behavior as some kids thrive off of making other people feel bad. I asked her if she had done anything to this girl to make her feel that way and she said she couldn’t think of anything because they’ve never even ever had a conversation other than having to work together in partner groups at school in math.
Last week, she mentioned that her, and this other girl, we will call McKenzie, were saying some mean things on the school bus, or else she thought they were talking about her. I again told her not to feed into it as she knows she hasn’t done anything to them, and she couldn’t be 100% sure they were whispering about her. Virginia is supposed to be her seat partner on the bus and has never sat with her. She told me she never said anything to her bus driver about it because she didn’t want to make it worse.
All week, I’ve asked her if things are continuing and she said no. But tonight, as she was getting ready for bed, she let it out that the girls overheard my daughter talking to her good friend “Addie” who lives up the street and is in 5th grade, about my daughters upcoming sleepover for her 10th birthday. They began to hound Addie and ask her if she was really going to go to go to her sleepover, if she was really friends with her, if it was just a pity thing, and if she really actually likes my daughter. I told her that that was crossing a line and they were dipping toes into mean girl behavior and maybe some light bullying.
She also said there was a strong perfume scent on the bus earlier this week. Some kids were complaining about it and the girls blamed my daughter and tried to get others to join in. She is really worried about looking like a tattletale and/or making it worse.
My advice was for her to go to her teacher who she trusts, and ask for time to talk to her about it alone away from the girls (Virginia is in her class). Then, when they talk, let her know what’s happening and how she has been trying to ignore it and deal with it herself but that it’s getting to be too big of a problem. I told her to explain how this has started awhile ago and that she doesn’t know why they’re targeting her as she has no relationship with them at all. They’ve never been in her class until last year. I told her to let her teacher know that she isn’t looking to get them into trouble, but that she wants the comments/mean behavior to stop and she needs help facilitating a girls circle to have the conversation.
My husband wants to have me reach out to the teachegirl’s parents, but I think my approach is a better first step as our daughter needs to advocate for herself and mean girls are something she’ll have to deal with her whole life. This way it’s at least documented if it continues.
Thoughts? Advice?

2024.05.22 01:08 lolzsmite1018 [TOMT] Story Involving Computer Being Thrown out of School Window

Alright. There's this story that I remember having to read in elementary school, specifically in 4th grade. I don't remember much except for the following details:
  1. If I remember correctly, it was an absurdist novel for children where one major location that the story took place in was a school.
  2. In the intro, a science teacher is explaining gravity to her students via a newly purchased expensive computer. Instead of using it normally for her lessons in gravity, she throws the computer out of a window from a very high floor of the school with her students watching it fall and hit the ground below before explaining to them that what just happened was an example of gravity at work.
  3. It may have been written by Roald Dahl because I remember having to read his novels for English back in 4th grade.

2024.05.21 22:29 SKW1594 What position would be best for me?

I just graduated with my master's degree in elementary education. I have a ton of experience in the classroom as a para, substitute, and private school teacher, working with children from Pre-K through 8th grade. My strongest level in terms of content is kindergarten, which is what I taught as a student teacher. However, kindergarten is especially difficult because you are dealing with small children, some of whom have never stepped foot in an actual classroom before.
I know every grade level has its pros and cons. I would like to hear from teachers with experience in various grades and your thoughts about each. Similarly, due to behaviors in public school, I'm considering working in private. I wonder if there's any difference in behaviors and parent communication. If anyone has experience with that, please leave a comment!
Student teaching really burned me out badly. I couldn't handle the extensive lesson planning PLUS the intensive behavior management. I was absolutely exhausted and very depressed. I couldn't keep putting my all into my lessons if kids didn't care. I need to find something that's not as draining for my health.
Any advice or support is appreciated!

2024.05.21 15:55 Hot-West9928 Soul of a human 7

First_Previous_Royal Road
Again a small lore dump, on magic attributes. Hope you enjoy!
_________________________________________________________________________________
On the way to the next lesson Mor was asked °Think, I could use your magic?° by the human.
°I don´t know, maybe something to try later today° he answered. °Yeah, let's do that too.° Human agreed.
The next lesson was an interesting one, at least for the visitor from beyond, it was a lesson on the rules of magic, even if Mor and quite a few of his peers were lulled into sleep by the soothing voice of the teacher. The human, never expected, that someone could teach something so interesting in such a boring way.
...
As you all know, magic is divided into types, that are known to us as attributes.
Attributes have a positive effect on magic of the same type and a negative effect on the type opposing it. To give you an example for this a mage with fire affinity, will not be able to use higher forms of water magic. We know of the following attributes, but sometimes new ones are discovered, so this list is ever-expanding. Please pay attention now, as this will be test-relevant. We know of the elemental attributes, Fire, Earth, Water, and Wind, the manipulation attributes, Healing and Illusion and finally the royal attribute, only seen in the royal Diamond family, called Gravity.
Here I have to note, that there are spells, that are not included in any of those attributes and can be used by anyone. These are called Basic-attributed spells. Those spells include for example things like body enhancement, magic bolt, or the widely used message spell.
Now please note that the attribute distinctions are only one part, the second part is the distinction of potency of the spells. Firstly there is the single-class, moving and manipulating existing materials, you can pick fruits or use a small amount of water to water a plant, they can only do what anyone could do with their own hands and basic tools. Next up would be group-class where the material to manipulate will be supplied by the magic power and here your attributes will matter. In this class, the basic martial spells and convenience spells are located, with a strength that a small group estimated at around five people could produce with their tools. Then we get into the village-class magic and as you can surely guess those include things, that would need the manual labor of a small village, and here most of you will find yourself comfortable spellcasting. But then we go into the higher forms, here you either need a soul-bound partner with the same affinity as yourself to supply the energy demands, those are called demographic-class, and finally, there would be world-class magic, but the energy required of those could only be supplied by a whole convent of right attributed mages at least that´s the theory. Nobody was able to use a spell like that, it is purely hypothetical.
...
°Ok, that was really interesting, I would like to see what those high-class spells are capable of.° The human stated and Mor answered °Yes, but with my magic reserves, we will probably be stuck at group-class magic.° °Laaaame!° Human exclaimed. °We really need to find a way to get you more magic... This is just stupid.°
°Well it would help if it is possible for you to also cast spells. Then we could be much faster in using magic.° Mor thought. °Well, only a few more hours and we can test that, at home.°
°You´re right.° the human agreed.
With this, both of them either suffered or excitedly listened through the following lessons, and Mor having a peaceful lunch break. At last as peaceful, as it can be with a human trying to move random body parts and cursing about how hard it was. Mor finally made them stop after he was made to involuntary open his hand, and drop his juice. But without the acute danger of the bullies, it was very nice for a change, if a bit lonely. But still much better than before, the only bad thing about the bonding with the human was, that his body ached after the human moved it so violently, but it would pass, he was sure of that.
Finally, after lessons ended, Mor acquired something for supper and retreated to his room, carefully locking the door and at the insistence of the human enhancing the lock with a simple spell to make the lock and door more sturdy.
After they finally "guarded" their room right, Mor refusing to add some "surprises" for anyone opening the door. They sat down on the bed and began with what they discussed.
°I want to try using magic first.° The human opened. °Moving your body is hella exhausting.°
°Yes, let´s try it. First, just concentrate on the magic inside our body and make it flow.° Mor guided the human. °How do I concentrate on the magic?° The question came and Mor explained further. °You have to feel the potential within and then concentrate on it.°
After a short while the human stated °Is it bad, that I can´t feel any potential or whatever? Maybe just go like this and yes I think I feel something flow!° Mor felt elated, now they could cast two spells even with his meager energy reserves. °Great! Now concentrate on the pillow and imagine it fluffing itself up.° And once again the human tried, but nothing would happen. °Huh? Why is nothing happening? I feel something flowing and all.° They asked. °I don´t know, I´m telling you what I was told when I started with the magic. What my parents taught me.° Mor answered.
°Speaking of your parents, you have magic communication. Why is that message taking so long to reach them? Shouldn´t that be instantaneous?° The human asked.
Mor sighed °Your understanding is screwed up, how would you even think that? Message magic is simple, so you need to have a view on your recipient or it won't work.°
°Well, we have some stories in our world, with magic settings and shit, and there it is always super handy and can do just about anything. While here it is tedious and full of "that´s not how it works".° The human sounded disappointed.
°Well let´s get back on track and let me try some more. Maybe you could watch the flow of your energy, then tell me if I do something right.° Human offered and Mor nodded. Like that, they tried, but Mor could not detect any movement in the energies within him. °This is not working.° Mor stated, and the human had to reluctantly agree.
°So we are left with trying to let me do the body movement... Not ideal, but well let´s try something from my world. Take deep breaths and relax, only concentrate on your breathing.° The human instructed and Mor followed the directions and slowly felt his body moving, doing everything in his power to not intervene and only concentrate on his breathing until finally the human let out a satisfied grunt.
°Yes that is better, it is still hard, but now I´m just moving something I´m not accustomed to, instead of fighting you.° The human sounded pretty happy and Mor was too, but a quick glance at the clock in his room let both of them decide to get some sleep. Being late for class and tired would not be good.
Mor awoke the next morning to a world of pain, his whole body just hurt. °What is this, it hurts!°
°I don´t know! I did nothing while you were asleep!°
°You must have! Why else would it be like this?° Mor scolded the human.
°Don´t get snippy with me! I will slap you! And with your own hand no less!° They countered.
°And why I´m the only one in pain, that is unfair!° Mor complained.
°Why would you think that? I feel the pain too, it´s just not as bad as you say. You are just a little wuss.° The human said.
°I´m no wuss, I never had this kind of pain before!° Mor grumbled.
°Really? If I had to describe it it feels just like a little soreness in the muscles... Ah! Maybe, me moving your body is more stressful, than you moving your own. Even if you are distracted you subconsciously try to fight my control. That would make sense, but we can´t know for sure.° Human theorized.
°Really? And now? If this is what happens this is not acceptable!° Mor was still whining.
°Well easy, we will test your theory, that you can´t train your bodies, because, with this new development, I smell bullshit and laziness. Time to train and limber up!° Mor whinced at that exclamation of the human. °We will do nothing like that!° He exclaimed.
°We will, and I will force you if I need to.° The human stated matter of factly. °I hate you.° Mor grumbled.
°Yes. Yes! Let the hate flow through you!° The human snickered. °Still, I won´t let you just opt out without trying!°

2024.05.21 09:09 qtummechanic Advice regarding potential resignation.

Hello everyone. I got a job at my Hagwon almost exactly 3 months ago. Since I have been in Korea and working, I have had two completely free days the whole 3 months.
I work at a Poly school (won’t say which one for privacy reasons). When I interviewed, my director said that it was a lot of work but didn’t specify what exactly that meant. I understood that Korean companies work much more on average than American ones, so I was prepared for a heavy workload, but nothing like this. As I said in the opening paragraph, I have had only two free days in the past 90 days. The workload here is nothing short of Herculean. First, I have approximately 40 teaching hours a week. On top of this, we have to grade, correct, and comment 24 Poly Writers Club essays bi-weekly. We also have to grade, correct, and comment on language composition assignments weekly (a first draft essay and the final draft of the previous lesson). We have to do individualized student comments for all of our kindergarten and elementary students (kindergarten bi-monthly, elementary tri-monthly). They require us to make these stupidly long (my kindergarten comments came out to 4000 words for 12 students and the elementary comments 6000 for 22). In August were supposed to do comments for every student we teach (not just our own students), so I’m looking at about 60 comments. I have to grade 12 picture diaries every week. And this does not even mention the lesson planning. My Poly requires an extremely detailed lesson plan which usually takes me hours to make. I also have to do behavior numbers for elementary students. I also have 12 essays for higher level students that I teach that I have to grade both first draft and second draft bi weekly. I’m sure I’m forgetting some things, but you get the gist.
My mental health is suffering tremendously. I always have to bring work home with me and I end up working until 2-3am (I get off work at 6-6:40pm). I have a partner of 2.5 years that lives here as well, and we have not been able to go out together or really do anything other than stay home because I always have to work, so my personal relationships are suffering. Every spare second I have, I find myself mentally shutting down and zoning out. The sleep deprivation is not helping this either. I don’t have hobbies anymore because I don’t have time for them. I literally just wake up, go to work, go home and work, sleep and repeat. As I write this, I’m looking at a stack of 24 poly writers club essays that need to be corrected and commented.
I don’t want to leave Korea, like I said, I have a long term partner here, but I can’t keep up working like this.

2024.05.21 08:56 cashgroen Excerpt from onyx storm?!

Jk, no stolen work here. But what predictions would you make for OS? Here's a conversation I could forsee happening in the book! IF spoilers ahead!
Scenario 1: [Dain dragged violet to the sparring gym after she nearly brings down the entire dorm wing wirh her lightning. He lets her hit him again and again, until the lightning begins to recede and she can disconnect her emotions from the magic floodinf her.]
"You want the truth?" I snap at him. "I think..." I take a steadying breath, willing my pounding heart to calm before I start again. I check my shields to make sure the archive door that leads to Tairn is firmly shut.
"I think love can make you blind. Or, at least it makes you willing to turn a blind eye to so many things. And the worst part is that you don't even question it, you just... you love them so much that you make it work." Dain watched me quietly, not daring to say a word as the words poured out.
"I think once you give that part of yourself away, it's impossible to get back. You wake up one day, and all of a sudden you're not the same person you used to be. And there are days where I don't even know what side I'm on anymore. But he's everything to me, he's my gravity. I can't walk away from him, Dain any more than I could walk away from Tairn or Andarna. Gods help me, even if he drags me to hell I can't walk away from him. And it scares the living shit out of me, but..."
My voice trails off, wavering as I search for the words to convey how completely fucked I am. His dark eyes meet mine, and for a moment he's my Dain again. The boy who climbed trees with me, and caught lizards to slip into Brennan's bed. My Dain, before all of this shit happened and Basgaith changed that fundamental part of us.
"So, I guess that's a no to the private training lessons then?" He winks, his voice landing just flat of his usual teasing tone.
"Shut up, Aetos." I mutter. "You couldn't handle me on the mat, and you know it."
Scenario 2:
[Violet accidentally eavesdropping on dain and ridoc, out of sight. In this context, Xaden pulls a full new moon and left. Sgaeyl refuses to help track Xaden, and nobody knows where he is. It's assumed he's gone for good, after leaving Violet a dramatic "I'll always love you, but this is for the best" letter that's complete bs. She's obviously spending every spare second trying to track him down so she can tell him how dumb she's being, but everyone else thinks he's a lost cause and she should move on.]
"So, how long do you think she's gonna need before she's, you know..." his voice trails off.
"Before she's ready to date again?" Ridoc asks incredulously. I hear Dain clear his throat, and I'm about to throw myself around the corner and deck him when I hear a familiar simpering tone.
"Aetos, let's get one thing clear. One: Once you've had Xaden Riorson... there's no going back to just 'dating'. She's done. Finished. And after everything thats happened, I wouldnt be suprised if she gutted you like a fish if she ever so much as caught wind that you two were standing around discussing her availability like shes the next flock of sheep for your dragons to feed on, like theres not an entire WAR happening out there." I reel, in shock as Cat's normally haughty tone cuts in. If I didn't know any better, I'd almost think there was a hint of... respect in her tone.
"And Two: even if she did move on, it's never going to happen. Sgaeyl might have severed her connection with Xaden, but they're still bonded. So unless you're willing to fight all three of her dragons, to drag her across the continent? It's not going to happen."
I hear Dain mutter something unintelligible, and then the telltale scuff of boots as he storms away and I release a breath I didn't realize I was holding.
"What an asshole." Ridoc grunts.
"Agreed," Cat says, flicking her long braid over her shoulder as she pivots to saunter away.
"Oh, and Rider?" She throws over her shoulder. "If you so much as breathe a word about this conversation happening, I'll see to it that you're stationed on latrine duty for the rest of your life."
"It's Ridoc." He shoots back at her. "And-"
"Whatever, Ridick. Save it for someone who cares."
Scenario 3:
Dain: Breathes.
Everyone: Shut up.

2024.05.21 02:39 bjpmbw Need some advice: job will expand to add middle school students

I work in a kindergarten through eighth grade school and it’s a pretty great place all around. It’s not quite a title one school but we do have our problems…but not severe. My job is a mixture of coaching newer teachers and small group teaching. So next year my job will expand to include middle school grades. This means I’ll be standing in front of middle school students from grades 6/7 /8. I’m honestly just a little nervous & I really don’t know how to approach this. I’m so used to elementary students, and I’m open to any tips. The teachers that I’ll be working with seem happy to have the extra help because they’re entering a pretty new ESL program situation. I’ve been pretty successful with grades K-5 in terms of getting good rapport with the kids etc. I have had other roles in education including classroom teacher and assistant principal, but I have never really worked with middle school students except for a small period with subbing. Did I mention I’m not exactly young, 56 years. I would love to hear any suggestions about starting off the right way when I go into classrooms to start modeling lessons etc. Besides running away, lol.

2024.05.21 01:28 urfreelo How do you put your happiness and your desires first?

Hello everyone,
This is my first post. I’ve been watching Dr. K’s videos for about a month or two now, and I want to share some realizations I’ve had from watching them. I just watched the first 45 minutes of today’s live stream on “sh*t life syndrome,” up to the part where he starts addressing how to fix the syndrome. I don’t think I have it right now, but I can see myself developing it in the future.
I’ve been fortunate in many ways. I’m an Indian growing up in a wealthy American suburb with a lot of Asians near me. I’ll share a bit of my personal story to provide context.
I was a super positive, outgoing child, probably because my dad was very extroverted. I was also good at sports and considered academically gifted. In that aspect, my life was great. I had a lot of friends and did everything I wanted—I felt like the king of the world. But at home, my parents fought every morning, and although they tried to shield me and my brother, we could still hear their screams. They even got physical to the point where they tried to kill each other, and the police were called. My father wasn’t abusive, but he cheated. I didn’t understand why there was so much negativity until my mother told me when I was 6 or 7.
When I was 3, my parents started to separate, with one living in an old condo they had before moving into our current house. They switched every few months, and when I was 4, they moved back in together. Without any knowledge of this, on the last day of kindergarten (when I was 6), my mother took me and my brother to an apartment, and we started living there. My brother (5 years older than me) and I would live with my dad on the weekends, but as time passed, my mom wanted weekends with us too, so we only saw our dad every other weekend.
I loved my father a lot back then. He was a great dad—playing baseball with me during the day, biking around our subdivision, and indulging in fun activities at night like watching movies, playing games, or making music together. When I was 7 or 8, he got me a drum set and lessons. In June 2013, when I was 9, he passed away from a heart attack due to diabetes. Coincidentally, my parents were officially getting divorced two days after he died, and the day after was our school’s field day, which got canceled due to rain.
During the years my parents were separated, I preferred staying with my dad. My mom was strict and had anger issues, though she wasn’t very abusive—just the classic Indian mom slaps. Despite this, I loved her, but even at 6 or 7, I threatened to kill myself multiple times and even grabbed a knife once. I think this mindset has been there since then. When everyone around me criticizes me, I get thoughts of just living for them like a puppet and then eventually killing myself. In the end, I had to mentally side with my mother and demonize my father because he was dead and had cheated on her. Since then, I’ve always tried to be tolerant of my mother and avoid negative thoughts about her. These decisions have had repercussions. Subconsciously, I started to hate my mother, likely for making me hate my father. I couldn’t express my emotions—I couldn’t cry or be angry. I had been a big crybaby before, but after my dad’s death, I rarely cried, even at his cremation.
Over time, I became very disconnected from my emotions. Recently, I came to a theory: the parts of my father that I resembled, I locked away because of how my mother spoke of him. The extroverted, charming, and optimistic parts of me disappeared. By 9th grade, I didn’t know why I was living. When COVID hit in my 10th grade, it was almost a saving grace. My grades were slipping, and I played more video games. During quarantine, I reconnected with my best friend, and we spent a lot more time together. Our friend group started having more group calls, and I got into a relationship with a girl, which made me see a life I wanted to live for myself, not for others.
Both of us had issues, and I realized I needed to deal with mine before getting into a relationship. During our time together, I had a huge issue with pathologically lying to maintain appearances. I still lie today, mainly to my family, about things like my GPA to escape judgment. Every move I make, every word I say, gets judged by them. They even critique my vocabulary and how much I smile and laugh. This constant scrutiny has led to the life I am living today.
After my breakup with my girlfriend, I decided to try therapy again because I realized I had unresolved issues. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to open up, making it a waste of time and money, except for a book my therapist recommended, “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself,” which helped open my eyes a bit. After reading this book and starting college, my life was improving, and I was happy. However, it quickly deteriorated as my family began pressuring me about job placement. Since October 2023, two months into my second year in college, there have been many times when I feel there’s no point in waking up tomorrow. The expected path for me is to climb the corporate ladder. When I think of that, all I see is slaving away, working 100 hours a week, around superficial people, building wealth, giving it to my family, and then disappearing to another country where I can actually be happy. Alternatively, I imagine going somewhere, partying, doing drugs, and overdosing, or simply killing myself in my early to mid-30s.
I can envision lives where I could be happy, but there is pressure from my family to pursue a corporate career and secure a six-figure job. While I don’t dislike money, I can’t see a happy life whilst chasing it—it feels so useless and pointless. I’ve expressed my desire to do other things with my life to my family. My family isn’t necessarily against it, but there are high expectations for me. Growing up as the prodigy child with a high IQ, I was always expected to outperform my older brother. Because of these expectations, I’m constantly compared to others who were in my place in college not too long ago.
I tried to get into investment banking because it’s high-paying and well-respected, but I’ve had no luck with that or any other internships, even with local small firms. I’m a finance major, and after coming home from college two weeks ago, I feel like I’m constantly criticized and judged. If I make food, they comment on how much time I have. If I don’t eat, they say I’m depressed and that I can’t be too busy to eat. I genuinely believe I am depressed, I have issues related back to my childhood where I have locked off parts of me, and I want to do therapy for it but don’t know possibly when. I’m frustrated that life isn’t turning out as I hoped.
I’ve spent over 1000 hours in the past 2-3 years applying for internships but have landed none. It’s frustrating because all that time could have been spent doing things I actually want to do and building a life I want to live. I’m currently doing an unpaid internship through a family friend because I needed something on my resume, along with an externship, networking, interview prep, and mindlessly applying. I don’t know how to live a life at home without constant criticism, and I don’t know what to do. I have pathways I want to pursue but lack the time and energy to commit to them properly. I know that putting in little effort once a week isn’t enough—they need commitment. I don’t believe I have a terrible life, but I feel like I’m heading down that path. I genuinely don’t know what to do. When I came home, I planned to focus Monday and Tuesday on my internship and externship work, Wednesday and Thursday on what I genuinely want to do, Friday on my research, Saturday on playing guitar, painting, and doing anything creative, and Sunday on personal development (watching Dr. K videos, miscellaneous stuff, and journaling about my childhood). But since my brother came back and he works from home, he constantly talks about how his girlfriend and all her friends got internships sophomore year summer, and she was in finance and it was only last year too, and asks me to do stuff around the house (which I don’t mind) but he asks in a way acting like I have all the time in the world and I am doing nothing. This leads me to being pressured to apply for internships, network, and interview prep, that I did not plan to do this summer or want to. After living like that for 2-3 days working for 18-20 hours a day I get angry internally and pessimistic and start to dread and hate my life. Then I coop myself in my room the next days, watch tv or anything that’s brainrot and act like I’m working while I do like 1-2 hours of work that day.
I honestly don’t know how to fix this. I’ve tried adopting good habits and ignoring the criticism from my family, and it works temporarily, but that’s all it is—temporary. I don’t necessarily blame my family; my mother is pretty supportive of anything I do nowadays. It’s more the overall image and fear of people looking down on me and badmouthing me. The only one who directly criticizes me the most is my brother, and even then, his intentions are usually good; it’s just the way he goes about it, along with my mother and brother undermining my actions. I know I left a lot here, and I have a lot of problems to deal with. I have high levels of anxiety, I’ve suppressed a lot of my emotions to the point where they bottle up and seep out
What I’ve done in the past: Consistently workout Socialize and have fun, actually enjoy my life Gratitude Journal daily Weekly journal Mindful Meditation daily Proper morning and nightly routine

2024.05.21 00:41 AdventurousTone594 I have a kid (12F) who was recently diagnosed. Does her history and evaluation sound right to you?

My daughter's typically been a very well-behaved, bright child. So this diagnosis was initially quite surprising to me! But I want to share her story to see if the evaluation makes sense? Or how we can move forward from here? Kind of a long post, just a heads-up!
I miscarried a son just a year before I had her (it was a problem with my appendix, so she was born after I had it removed) if that matters at all. She was born with a larger head than all her siblings. I have type I diabetes by the way.
She was a pretty typical child after her birth. She began saying her first words early at 9mo, and walking at 13mo. However, ever since she was just a few months old, she'd been having violent meltdowns at parties and whenever I turn on the vacuum. Crying, screaming, kicking-- and she wouldn't stop until I took her somewhere quiet. She was breastfed, though I can't remember when we stopped.
Other than that, she was a quiet kid who was very focused on her surroundings. She would often get stuck in a sort of trance-- blankly staring and suddenly very still. These were not seizures; she would snap out of it with a small tap on the shoulder.
She usually responded to her name unless she was very focused on something. Otherwise I'd have to say her name a few times or tap her. When I pointed or looked at something, she wouldn't turn her head unless I said "Look!" or something. She also didn't move her face much or show too many emotions. Her reactions were a little slow.
She has trouble following directions without being explicitly told or shown what to do. This wasn't a problem in younger years, but this is a big issue now (lots of trouble doing chores).
She also had issues with empathy occasionally. She had a bad habit of pushing her younger brother. She'd always laugh afterwards.
Fast-forward to starting preschool. She was very well-behaved and quiet, she didn't talk with other kids unless she was asked to. She would strangely move her fingers around in front of her eyes during nap time (she did the same thing at home).
She played with toys the same way each time unless she was told to do differently. Often, she would get really focused on whatever she was doing and start rocking herself unintentionally. She also loved to-do lists-- she made so many of them as a little kid I stopped counting.
She loves certain sounds and will often seek out these noises on her own.
She was fascinated with other people's emotions. In kindergarten, she would bring up sad stories (like her grandmother's death) and intentionally sit alone to evoke sympathy.
She kept this up for years -- starting drama she didn't care about to see how people react, ending friendships for no reason, lying to her friends to seem more interesting. She got herself into trouble in second grade for passing mean notes to a classmate. This is something that makes me doubt her autism diagnosis a little, since these kids are usually very honest. But she IS also diagnosed with ADHD, so maybe her impulsivity and boredom with life caused her to start drama with her classmates? I dunno.
In third grade, she became obsessed with a certain video game. She played it all day, all night. Her screen time was upwards of 12 hours a day sometimes. Her grades began to plummet, and so did her mental health.
COVID happened, and she had a lot of trouble with the transition. She had bad grades and started cutting herself in fourth grade. She stopped after an intervention.
In fifth grade, she was fine. But she would often read in the middle of class since she couldn't focus on lessons. She couldn't go a minute without doing something. She also continued to rock herself and all. She loved listening to stories or gossip though. She still didn't have a lot of friends.
In 6th grade, she got much louder. She often couldn't tell how loud she was being and was very impulsive. She had a lot of friends (but I've talked to their parents and stuff. They said she is strange and somewhat childish, with an odd sense of humor, but generally quite likeable and funny.) She could only really get along with younger kids, since she was (and is) fairly immature.
At the end of 6th grade, she attempted suicide. We sent her to a psychiatric hospital for 10 days and she continued on meds for a few months. It didn't work-- she attempted again on the third day of seventh grade. The psychiatrist who saw her in the ER after her second attempt told me to take her for autism testing since he noticed several symptoms while talking to her.
Then I spoke to her guidance counselor, who gave me a better perspective on her behavior at school. She doesn't make eye contact, she is attached to a small hamster plush she carries around (emotionally distressed and unable to function without it). She often screams in class randomly and makes impulsive decisions to get reactions out of people (slamming the door or writing disrespectfully to teachers). She has issues remembering social norms, unknowingly interrupts people while they are talking and has a lot of trouble focusing in class. She usually covers her ears during fire drills and won't stop until it's over. She also took something from someone's locker and moved it.
Her guidance counselor used to work as an occupational therapist for children with disabilities and strongly recommended taking her to get evaluated. We were referred to a behavioral therapy/health program.
It's also worth noting that she is very aggressive towards her brother. They get into physical fights, and she has given him two black eyes before.
This is what the evaluation looked like: The therapist privately spoke with my daughter for an hour while she discussed her struggles with depression and behavior issues. During this talk, the therapist examined her behavior thoroughly (restless, little eye contact, unusual voice) She was also asked to fill out some forms with some agree/disagree forms. We also spoke to the psychiatrist -- I told him about her history, and he also looked at her behavior. The psychiatrists and therapists all recognized not only autism, but ADHD as well (her brother and sister both have symptoms of ADHD, but I don't have full custody of them so I didn't get them evaluated). Does this evaluation sound right, is this how the process is supposed to go? We didn't get a paper or anything, but they put her in the system to get treated for these three diagnoses (depression, autism, adhd)
Her symptoms have become more clear to me now. She often repeatedly makes meowing sounds or counts to twenty in italian for no reason (maybe a stim, or repeated behavior?) She has poor facial recognition. She has a very good rote memory. Her vocabulary is years ahead of other kids her age. She can't make eye contact, though from therapy she has learned to look at people's noses! She is obsessed with order and structure (autism) but has trouble maintaining it (adhd). She is afraid to do new things when pressured (autism) but eventually comes around, needing something new and more stimulating (adhd). She often flaps her hands as well, when she is frustrated or really happy. She's still bothered by loud noises and sometimes has to leave the classroom to do work.
She still accidentally interrupts people, but has learned a few more respectful ways to respond. Still has hardly any friends and gets along better with children in special education (she's in general ed right now) And she has a strong interest in giraffes (has them hung up all over her wall, a bunch of figures and plushes), the Holocaust (talks about it a lot, reads lots of books about it, watches videos), geography (can name every country, find it on a map, and draw the flag), and geology (collection of 80+ rocks).
One problem is that her depression heavily masks her ADHD. We recently moved (the transition was initially hard for her, but she was very curious and interested in the new place, probably adhd boredom?) and her behavior issues have disappeared since she isn't as happy with life as it is (so not as energetic or hyper). But I know that once she gets all cheerful and giddy, she will act up again. She has no ADHD medicine yet.
So yeah. Does her diagnosis sound right? Is this how the evaluation process usually goes? How should we proceed from here?

Background
Male, Australian/Israeli, 36 Years Old, 5'7, approx 65kg
I've always enjoyed running casually, but these past few months of preparation for a sub-3 hour attempt at the Barcelona Marathon 2024 have been on a different level, so I wanted to sit and write this down.
I did one marathon back in 2015. I hit the wall at about 38km and struggled my way across the line with a 3.35 hour time. It was a miserable experience, and I was glad to tick off the list and looked forward to never doing another marathon again. I wasn't wearing a watch and wasn't aiming for a certain time - I just wanted to get it done. In hindsight, I was underprepared, under motived and under researched, although still achieved a pretty decent time.
I went back to running casually at approx 10km distances. I'm lucky to have my Dad's genes (2.45 hour marathon time), so running came easy to me and I enjoyed it. I never timed myself and just ran by feel.
Fast forward to August 2020 where I broke my patella (kneecap) in a surfing accident - my two ligaments pulled an already fractured bone cleanly in half. I had surgery to put the bones back together where they inserted pins and wires into the kneecap to hold it in place, and I started my 1.5 years of intensive physiotherapy. My leg was stuck straight in a brace for two months and all the muscles in my left leg wasted away until it was about half as skinny as the right leg. I had no range, strength or balance in the leg, and running was a distant dream. 6 months later I had all the pins and wires removed from the knee, and I could finally start running again. I started on an anti-gravity treadmill, then running in water, then on soft sand, before I started hitting the tarmac.
I bought a Garmin watch to ensure I was easing myself back into running in a controlled manner, and now running had a very different philosophy - I was timing everything. After feeling that I was back to my strength, approx 1 year after the accident, I set myself an aim to get below 40min in the 10km, which I hit approx 6 months later - 1.5 years after the injury.
I had hit my 10km under 40 min target, so in my eyes, I was fully recovered. Once I hit this goal, I started increasing my range and running more than 10 km, still pretty casually. I signed up for the Tel Aviv Half Marathon in Feb 2023, and surprised myself by achieving 1 hour 26 mins. It was at this time I briefly crunched the numbers in my head and started thinking about a Marathon. I did some research and found that going sub-3 hour is 'a thing', and something pretty achievable for me with some serious training. Israel gets super hot in the Summer, so I thought I would park the idea until later in the year, and decide closer to November (winter), which would give me enough time to train for the Tel Aviv Marathon at the end of Feb.
On 7-October, my wife and I woke up to air-raid sirens. Here in Israel we're pretty used to these sirens, but this time they came unexpectantly and were a huge surprise - usually they come in a certain context, but these ones came out of nowhere. We went down to our bomb shelter, and tried to understand what was happening. The smell of death was everywhere. My friend had been shot in the initial attack, and my friends and family were getting immediate call ups to the army. The next few weeks are a blur and our lives were put on hold. We spent time volunteering, helping, and doing what we could and I completely forgot about the Marathon. I fell into a dark place - the war was mentally, physically and emotionally exhausting, and I had no energy to spend anywhere else.
Throughout October and November I managed to pull myself away from the news and went for a few runs just to get away from it all, although the war followed me. The streets were quiet and eerie. I felt uncomfortable running knowing that someone from the running community was being held hostage in Gaza, and that many of my friends and family were risking their lives during this war. One of my runs was interrupted by more rockets coming from Gaza, and air-raid sirens. I took cover under a shelter in the park and peeked out to see the Iron Dome intercepting some rockets over the skies of Tel Aviv. Then I continued my run.
I realised that maybe training for this marathon would be a good way to spend all the weird energy that I had, and at the beginning of December, I decided to up my mileage. I wasn't yet committed to doing the marathon, but the long runs were great for my mental health. By mid-December, I decided that I would commit to aiming for a sub-3 Hour Marathon at the end of February, and I started my training. I was excited.
Then, the next set-back... in January, the Tel Aviv Marathon got cancelled due to the ongoing war. I was gutted.
My wife suggested that getting out of Israel for a break might be a good idea, and I found that the Barcelona Marathon was scheduled for 10-March, just a few weeks after the cancelled Tel Aviv one - perfect. By the end of January, I was registered for the Barcelona Marathon and deep into the training. I decided that this was an 'all or nothing' run, and that I would try hit sub-3 hour as I wasn't planning on doing another marathon any time soon.
Training
The training was solo, which at times was tough. In hindsight it would have been nice to train with someone. I spent some time on AdvancedRunning and FirstMarathon but honestly, the forums made me pretty anxious as everyone is different.
I researched and landed on the Pfitz 15/55 Training Plan, and adopted a very heavily amended version of it - I was mainly using the plan for an idea of how many weekly kms to aim for. Below is a weekly mileage summary;
Week 1 Total Distance 16.50 km
Week 2 Total Distance 57.41 km
Week 3 Total Distance 57.02 km
Week 4 Total Distance 64.02 km
Week 5 Total Distance 60.30 km
Week 6 Total Distance 71.08 km
Week 7 (Including HM race) Total Distance 78.94 km
Week 8 Total Distance 78.52 km
Week 9 Total Distance 79.01 km
Week 10 Total Distance 92.59 km
Week 11 Total Distance 83.62 km
Week 12 Total Distance 87.29 km
Week 13 Total Distance 54.02 km
Week 14 Total Distance 54.02 km
Week 15 (Race week) Total Distance 74.70 km
As someone who was used to running fast each time I went for a run, the biggest learning curve of this training block was learning how to run slow. But even on these slow runs I would get inpatient and throw in a few kms at Marathon Pace.
I ran approx 5 times a week and did leg strength work once a week in the gym, and some cross training/yoga once a week. My weeks were made up 2 x medium distance / medium paced run, 1 interval run, 1 recovery run and a long distance run (maxing at 37km 2 weeks before the race). I enjoyed variety within each run - eg my long run would be 5-10km warm up, 10-20km marathon pace, 2-5km cool down.
Another huge learning curve was learning how to taper. The two weeks leading up to the race were full of jitters and nerves. I had dropped my mileage from approx 90km down to approx 50km, which felt counter intuitive. I tried to 'trust the process', but I arrived at the starting line feeling pretty rusty, unconfident and out of shape.
At the beginning of the training block I bought the Nike Pegasus 40 for eating the miles, and the Saucony Endorphin Speeds for Tempo. I was planning on buying the VaporFlys for the race, but ended up running in the ES3s.
The race:
The race itself is a bit of a blur, but my training definitely paid off - I'd say that the leg strength work was a HUGE investment, and I found it helping towards the end of the marathon. Don't skip leg day.
I had planned to stick with the 3 Hour pacers, and reassess at 35km to see if I could pull ahead. However the 3 hour pacers set out really strong - it felt like they were holding 4 min km's for the opening few kms. I decided to let them pull ahead, although I kept them in sight and didn't let them get more than 200 meters ahead of me. I caught up and took over them at about the 37km mark.
Hitting the wall at my first marathon a few years earlier was a huge lesson and helped me prepare for the last few kms of this marathon. I knew I had to keep energy in reserves for the last few kms, which I did.
I consumed about 5 gels throughout the race, and took some water at most stops. I also took some electrolytes when they were on offer at the water-stops. They also had oranges and bananas so I grabbed a couple of oranges towards the last few aid stations.
Reflections:
In Judaism we believe in charity. My Dad has a bit of a tradition and a 'trick'. Whenever we travel, my Dad gives us some small change and tells us to give it to charity on our return. His 'trick' is that God would protect us on our trip to ensure that the charity reaches the needy on our return. I don't personally believe in God, but I love this idea, so I ran the marathon with these coins in my pocket to keep me safe (and fast). This helped me remember the deeper 'why' of my run.
The last few kms were emotionally overwhelming. I reflected on the 2 Year journey I had been on since my injury, and I also kept in mind our hostages who are being held in Gaza.
I finished the Marathon in 2:57:16, and crossing the line, I was emotionally and physically full.
Mission accomplished.

2024.05.20 15:53 furtree Description of Higher Densities/Loss of self-hood

I have seen a lot of questions in this sub and amongst those I know who are curious as to what higher densities are like and what joining a social memory complex is like. Many fear the loss of individuality as they join a social memory consciousness. I looked through my notes and stitched together some explanations that may help beginners here. I think one of the most interesting parts of these passages, which you can read below under the title "6th Density Transition for Negative" describes how, after. negative entity transitions to positive, while extremely difficult, they become "the most positive of positive entities". Further, as you will see below, the entire loss of self-hood (for those scared of losing their unique beingness) appears to only become intensified in 7th density.
Positive 4th Density:
Positive entities who have polarized adequately move into fourth density, become closer and closer, and begin to form themselves into societies so harmonious, because of all thoughts being open one to another, that they become social memory complexes, each entity within this society able to know and to feel whatever has been known and felt by all other entities within that particular group. In this setting, which is far more harmonious, and far less given to strife, the lessons of love, and service, and compassion, and understanding, are perfected to a minimal point. It does not have to be perfect, but it must be such that the next density, with its greater density of light, may be accepted with great comfort and enjoyment, and therefore be the native light which that entity has earned. (Q'uo July 1, 1990)
We are, as you, fallible, imperfect, unsure—but a little surer than you, my friends, for in the vibration which we now enjoy we can see that our brothers are one with us, so that to do harm to them is only to do harm to ourselves. We cannot lie, for our thoughts are visible to those about us, just as your clothing is obvious to those about you. Our vibrations are visible; thus, there is no deception, and there can be no confusion between people. We no longer even have names, for we do not need them. We were aware of your conversation earlier about names, and it made us smile—for, indeed, in our society we do not need to name an individual, for each individual vibrates in a unique manner and could not possibly be mistaken for another person. Seeing the vibration that is based upon the great octave of love in each person, we thus love each person. But that is easy for us; it is not easy for you. (Hatonn August 2, 1979)
Negative 4th Density:
In negative fourth density there is a similar attempt to polarize ever more strongly, to perfect the lessons of love. In the negative case it is always the love of the self and control over others which is a constant drain upon those who are in fourth-density negative, for they form uneasy alliances, and are always ready to challenge someone they think they know best in order to gain their power and to control them. Thus, although thoughts may be known by all, thoughts are attempted to be hidden, armored and guarded in as many ways as possible. Then the entities must gain enough of a strength of love of self and the ability to use that love in what they think is honest service to the Creator, whom they love, to be able to use light of the next density, which is that of wisdom. (Q'uo July 1, 1990)
5th Density Positive/Negative:
In fifth density positive and negative, one finds a good deal of isolation of entities, both positive and negative seeking the path that is its unique path, holding finally the wisdom of knowing itself totally. However, in fifth density positive, there is the constant flowing back towards community and communion, the communal meals, the communal services of worship and adoration to the one infinite Creator, and the happy blending of mates and friendship. In fifth density negative, there is nothing for the fifth density entity but the cave, the rock, the solitude and the seeking. (Q'uo July 1, 1990)
6th Density Transition for Negative:
Graduation to sixth density is very difficult for the negative polarity, for sixth density is the density of unity. When negative entities reach the point in sixth density at which they fully understand the lessons of sixth density, that is, that all things are One, they find that their negative path is at an end, they are at a standstill, unable to evolve one iota more. Using every bit of determination, will and faith that they have, they cause themselves to switch polarity in order that they may go on evolving. This seems at the time to be a service-to-self choice, for one thing that may be said of all densities is that there is an undeniable drive towards evolution. However, when the negative entity has switched polarity, it quickly discovers the sweetness of its choice. It must review a great deal of material it has missed, but it is the convert that is more fervent, if anything, than the one who has always been positive. It is the most positive of positive entities, the most loving, the most desirous of service, for it knows that it has finally discovered the truth that will continue its evolution.
6th Density Description for Both:
Therefore, you see that of which we shall speak in a moment must be seen against a backdrop of a great length of time, and, indeed, in sixth density is not the end of learning, for those in sixth density study and perfect the combining of compassion and wisdom, until compassionate wisdom has been grasped to an acceptable point, and the final lessons of egolessness and foreverness begin to be yearned for, to be learned, and so there is another graduation into the density of foreverness.
Now, in mid-sixth density your future self turns towards you in what seems to be the past, and gives you a gift, the gift of your self in a state of compassionate wisdom. This is your truth within. It is yourself.
7th Density:
In mid-seventh density, as spiritual gravity begins to move the ego into a lack of desire for form, for self, that creature turns back and in turn gives a gift to the mid-sixth density entity, so that in actuality each entity in third density has two levels of its own guidance to depend upon which are gifts from your future, as you would call it in your illusion. This mid-seventh density gift is, quite simply, the total data of all possible choices and all possible tracks at all decision points that have been registered along the way. It is a very subtle and complex gift, holding within its memory all those dreams that were not followed, all those paths that were not taken, and the results that would have happened had these paths been taken. It is your deepest intuition, and it is your gift to yourself.
As the seventh density entity loses all need to feel selfhood, the power of love which has infinite intelligence and no awareness of self at all calls it home, and it rejoins the Creator, which is intelligent infinity. At that point, so we understand from those few who have come to us from future creations, loss of self is in itself an illusion, for that which the Creator has created is never lost. There is no beginning over. The knowledge of this entire octave of creation is simply a gift to love itself, and love learns about love, and the heart of the universe beats once more, and a new creation, based upon the learnings of the previous, begins.
As far as we know this is an infinite process, but we urge you to be always aware that all things of which we speak are our opinions only, they are not infallible, and we only give you that which we believe to be true. You must hold each thing which we say to you to the mirror of your own discrimination, and if it is not your personal truth, [if] it does not seem to spring from your memory with a recognition and a resonance to you, then it is not your truth, and we ask you humbly to let it lie, for we would not be a stumbling block before you.
Those who do not polarize:
Thus, those who are indifferent in your density are those most to be mourned, for as they eat and drink and be merry without regard to serving others or the self, they simply continue in this density of experience, finding upon graduation that they have not graduated, they have not learned to love, they have not learned to turn towards the light, or to use the light. And so they shall be given—not hell, any more than third density is hell—but simply another third density experience lasting approximately 75,000 of your years.

2024.05.20 08:28 Either-Lawfulness537 First walk in.

First walk in.
First walk in was a good experience with plenty of lessons learned. Setup as follows:
TL;DR Have a plan, carry water, travel light, have contingencies, don't become complacent, use the right pack, and be sure to eat and drink.
Helikon Numbat (front pack) - multi-tool, map, compass, Lora device (meshtastic), snackies, pen, paper, sidewinder headlamp, 550 cord, batteries, and pistol (interior). Gloves, 1L canteen (pathfinder), and poncho (exterior).
Helikon Bergen (Back Pack) - 2xMREs, mountain house meal, canteen, canteen stove, canteen cup, change of clothes (shirt, pants, 2x socks), woobie, 2L water bladder, 2L empty collection bladder, more snackies, first aid, tea, drink tablets, iodine tablets, fire starter, and some whiskey (interior). Thermarest sleep pad, bivy, tarp, gorka top, trash bag, saw, and e-tool (exterior)
The overall weight was ~35 pounds.
The plan: Originally meant to do a walk through hike/camp roughly 7 miles in the Appalachian mountains. Gave the family a secondary map of key locations, checking, alternate methods of contact, and dead stop emergency checkpoints.
What happened: My second hiker bailed due to weather (luckily spectacular) since the forecast was thunder storms and rain. I doubled down and said I was going to proceed. I was thinking I would get drenched but the stubbornness proceeded to expectation to learn a hard lesson. This leads into my first mistake. I was expecting rain and thought gathering water would be easy with rain. I then decided to dump a liter of water to make it fit better in my pack.
The hike was overall easy except when plotting on the digital map I got lazy and pinned the roundabout area of the camp site. This lead to confusion and an extra mile of walking up, down, then back up mountainous terrain. I was able to gather my bearings and eventually found the right location even though I wasted at least an hour and extra calories walking.
Once the destination was reached I was able to drop gear and set up camp. It was a cliff overhang with high winds. I was glad I brought the gorka that I waterproofed but the extra weight of the ponch and tarp wore on me. The weather was unpredictable and I'd have and not need than not have and need. Given the situation I could of at least left the tarp, using the poncho/trash bag to cover my gear and the bivy to protect me while I slept.
Back to issue one. I pretty much depleted my water with just a meter left between cooking, drinking, and tasty teas. I knew there were springs in the area and luckily passed by two on the walk. I went back to them both but the water was trickling out of the mountain side so it was difficult to collect. I was only able to gather half a liter. I got uppity with my water selection and should of settled for a full bladder with murky water instead of half of a half of water with little debris.
Back at camp I needed to boil water so I made a fire. My friend was going to bring the fat wood so I improvised and used cotton balls with petroleum jelly. They worked well but if it was raining then it would of been difficult (for me at least) to build a fire. I was able to boil the water and use it the next morning.
The following day (1000) I was calorie deficient and had muscle fatigue. I knew I couldn't make the 5-7 mile hike straight through even though it was downhill. I opted to return the way I came since it was closer. I usually don't eat an early breakfast so I wasn't hungry after packing up but knew I needed calories. I ended up forcefeeding myself slimjims, peanut butter, and a tiny chicken salad and crackers to fill the gap. This was not enough.
During the walk back I knee the way and became lazy./fatigued. On the way up I was making sounds (crazy people sounds to alert wildlife) in order to avoid jumping black bears since it's cubbing season. I was so fatigued the gravity was doing my work and carrying my feet so I was focused on where they fell. As you see in a photo there is a cubby in a tree (in the pictures) that was within a stones throw. The mother was much closer. Luckily she looked at me, her and the other sibling ran. The mother had such agility that she was gone on the blink of an eye. At that distance I don't think I could have reached my pistol to stop her if she did charge. On top of that, my exhaustion would have just accepted fate. Gratefully, black bears are prone to running instead of charging. The deer and hiker I seen the day before were much more terrifying lol.
I finally started on the steep downhill decent before the upwards climb to my parked car. I sat for a bit before going all the way down to cross a creek since I knew there was a goo 70 meters of straight incline after that between me and my car. Once I mustarded the will to walm down into the draw, I collected a canteens worth of water. I half anticipated having to stop halfway up the climb to boil it to drink or use it to eat.
Additional complaint, the back pack is super tight/small. The thin shoulder straps aren't great for carrying weight a great distance. Good for hikes with food and water but overnight adventures are not so great.
Once to the truck I immediately drove to town, didn't eat but instead got water and a milkshake lol. Over all I did six miles there and back and it smoked me.

2024.05.20 05:57 Determination7 An Outcast In Another World (Subtitle: Is 'Insanity' A Racial Trait?) [Fantasy, LitRPG] - Chapter 265 (Book 6 Chapter 50) (Part 1)

"Stop! STOP!"
The terror in Kismet's voice rose higher as death drew nearer. He fled from Rob's grasping hand, but a Purge Divinity-infused fingernail managed to graze him, carving out a scoop of divine essence as if flaying a mortal's skin.
Kismet let out a screech as the Purging energy added to his growing collection of scars. A dozen small holes now dotted the surface of his mana-body, looking like he'd been pockmarked by wasting disease. Each wound represented a moment where the god had narrowly escaped with his life.
If those injuries had been inflicted by any other ability, then he could have rejuvenated himself in the time it took to blink. Purging energy was not so kind as that. It was purifying wrath in the shape of a Skill; their vengeance given form. Whatever divinity it touched, it extinguished.
As if cleansing the universe of a sickness that had infected it for far too long.
The BERSERKER continued his unrelenting advance. In response, Kismet threw up a frantic barrier of mana. It was strong enough to deflect one of Ragnavi's Annihilation beams–
And Rob blasted through it like paper mache. His charge sent broken shards of energy scattering across the divine realms. More mid-air rifts tore open, the HUMAN's aura strangling the surrounding area in a vice grip of power. Purge Divinity seemed to glow with light emanating straight from the pits of hell.
None of which was anywhere near as unnerving as the murder contained within his piercing gaze. When Kismet met Rob's eyes, he saw the end of eternity fast approaching.
The god's next barrier was just as frantic. However, this one was not comprised of mana, but of solid matter. Kismet summoned the hardest, most dense substance known to the mortal realms, then transmuted it into something that otherwise could only have been forged inside the heart of a dying star. It was many times more durable than the impossibly tough walls of an aberrant Dungeon.
So when Rob demolished it with a single punch, he actually had to put a bit of elbow grease into his windup.
Another wall materialized in front of him. He crushed it, then the one after, and the one after that, lashing out with bestial ferocity. The BERSERKER plowed through Kismet's hastily-built defenses like a bulldozer of fists and savagery. Rob was knocking them down as quickly as the god could make them, relishing the sensation of being able to vent his anger on targets that weren't fucking running away.
Then the twelfth wall fell – revealing a monstrous, spiky, fanged behemoth concealed behind.
Rob paused, momentarily taken aback at the sight of a mundane creature within the divine realms. 'Mundane' in relative terms, anyway. This monster was on par with a newborn Blight, radiating power that would have sent ordinary fighters sprinting for the hills.
It was also barely cognizant of its surroundings. The monster stared at him with unblinking, vacant eyes, just the tiniest glimmer of awareness present in its gaze. Rob noted that segments of its flesh were bubbling, as if the creature was fresh out of the oven and still needed to settle.
He couldn't help but feel a modicum of pity. This was yet another thoughtless creation, condemned to existence by an uncaring maker. Even monsters deserved better than that.
Rob caved the beast's head in before it could realize that it was alive. Pity was not the same as hesitation, and this was the only mercy he could afford to grant right now.
Didn't matter. Kismet's pawn served its purpose. In the brief instant that Rob spent getting over his initial surprise, the god had teleported to safety. He was already planning his next stunt that could buy him a few precious seconds of survival.
The HUMAN grimaced as he turned to give chase, unable to suppress the burgeoning sense of unease growing within his chest.
It almost didn't seem fair to feel that way. Rob knew he was winning – at least on the surface. Any outside observer would've bet their life savings on him, especially after the show of overwhelming superiority he'd just displayed. Kismet had been at a disadvantage before Never Forget Your Rage's recent upswing, and now it was no contest. Rob was confident that he would still be stronger even if the eight gods merged into one super-deity.
He also knew that he was living on borrowed time.
Whenever he moved, or activated a Skill, or even breathed...the sensation was there. Strength accompanied by incongruous frailty. Like background noise that kept getting louder with every action he took. His body felt close to pulling itself apart, as if his very molecules were a hairsbreadth away from coming undone.
It was different from Soul Instability. Whereas that threatened to collapse his soul, this frailty was an affliction of the flesh. The longer he fought, the more his physical form was at risk of popping like a balloon.
Such was the price of constraining godlike power within a mortal shell.
"Stay back!" Unaware of the turmoil fermenting in his assailant's mind, Kismet threw up his hands and...inverted...space? Rob didn't have a name for what he was seeing. Rather than stopping to puzzle out this latest brand of divine bullshit, he sent out a pulse of Purge Divinity, canceling whatever esoteric effect Kismet had been attempting to produce.
His Purging energy scraped against the divine realms like a cheese grater. Five rifts immediately tore open near both Rob and Kismet, with the god anxiously retreating from one that appeared just inches away from him. A low rumble echoed around them, and for a moment, they felt struck by an abrupt feeling of vertigo – until the realms gradually stabilized, righting once more.
For now.
Rob eyed the rifts with a detached, clinical gaze. An endless sea of mana resided behind them; the bedrock of the system itself. While he recognized that the rifts tearing open was bad news, he also couldn't really muster the energy to care. Between his overflowing rage, overtaxed body, and overburdened soul, minor details like the impending destruction of reality were hard to give much focus.
There was a way to fix all of that, of course. Rob couldn't outright deactivate Never Forget Your Rage – not without losing its bonus stats. But he could attempt to ease the storm of fury in his heart. By lessening his anger to more reasonable levels, Never Forget Your Rage would put less strain on both his body and the divine realms.
The notion forced a peal of hideous laughter to claw out of his throat. Lessen his anger? He'd have better luck trying to douse a volcano with a garden hose. No. For a wildfire that had grown this out of control, the only thing to do was stand aside and let it burn, burn, burn.
Until naught remained.
"I said stay back!" Kismet bellowed. He lifted his arms into the air. "Begone!" One moment later, Rob's vision was filled with scorching light. An apocalyptic geyser of mana burst forth from underfoot, intense and searing. It stripped the flesh from his bones in no time flat, powering through Almighty Resistance with pure, unmitigated violence.
And it still wasn't fast enough. Rob flickered a Purge Divinity shield for just an instant, allowing him to escape the geyser with his upper body – and most of his HP – intact. Lifesurge swiftly patched him up, leaving both combatants right back where they'd started.
Slowly, Kismet lowered his hands. They were shivering. "What are you?" he whispered. "Why are all my efforts in vain?"
To be honest, Rob was mildly impressed that Kismet had held on for this long. The god's combat efficacy was increasing as time passed, improving from panic-spamming teleports to more inventive maneuvers – as if he was learning how to fight on-the-job. He'd also stopped draining the other gods to supplement his power, having found an alternative source of fuel: mana seeping out from the sporadically-opening rifts.
It was the one silver lining to fighting an implacable BERSERKER so powerful that he fractured reality. Whenever Rob utilized Purge Divinity, more rifts opened up in the realms, and more mana leaked out from inside. The gods had invested that energy into the system millennia ago, and it typically would've been off-limits until they closed up shop and left Elatra. Kismet was making use of it now, absorbing the extra mana to strengthen himself, like a lifeline barely keeping him afloat.
The god's tenacity was...calling it 'admirable' would be going too far, but it did warrant a sort of begrudging respect. As someone who'd tangoed with multiple Blights, Rob knew what it was like to square off against a frenzied beast that could end him with a touch.
Being the scary one was a nice change of pace.
In exchange, Kismet had graciously donned the role of their battle's Combat Class user; fragile, outgunned, and pulling improvised maneuvers out of his ass for a chance at victory. The god could finally feel what it was like to be vulnerable. How exciting! Rob was more than happy to assist. Learning experiences such as these only came around once an eternity or so.
Flippancy aside – while Kismet still possessed room for improvement, this was the most that could be asked of a deity who hadn't seen combat in literal eons. His biggest fuckup had been taunting Rob in the wrong ways, but he couldn't have known about Never Forget Your Rage, that was an excusable oversight. By all other accounts, Kismet was performing adequately.
Even so...
"YoU aRE noTHinG."
The sound of Rob's voice caused two fresh rifts to open up. Kismet flinched, casting a teleportation spell out of pure reflex. Without pause, the HUMAN resumed his hunt.
Nothing. Perhaps that statement was hyperbole – yet it rang true nonetheless. While Kismet may have been a creature of supreme divinity, on the field of battle, his pedigree meant nothing. In the face of an implacable, unstoppable foe, his power was worth nothing. Very soon, he would be nothing, consigned to oblivion by Purging energy.
Rob couldn't help but unfavorably compare Kismet to the final Blight. Weren't these supposed to be two sides of the same coin? Each one-half of an original transcendent Will? Yet the Second Will had brought Rob to the edge of despair...and Kismet was fleeing like a cornered rodent. It was difficult to reconcile the two divinities as theoretical equals.
Although he knew that was an unfair comparison. Rob had fought the Blight before learning Limit Break and Never Forget Your Rage. Kismet wasn't weak.
The HUMAN was just far too strong.
If he rematched the Second Will today, he would beat it to death with his bare hands.
"Look at what you've wrought!" Kismet swept an arm out, gesturing towards some of the many rifts that Rob's presence was tearing open. "Do you understand what will transpire if you persist in this folly?! If the divine realms shatter, then so will all of Elatra! You are on the brink of destroying everything which you have striven to protect! Cease this–"
"CAN'T."
In a flash, Rob dashed forward and scooped out a chunk of the god's mana-body with Purge Divinity. Before he could do more, Kismet shrieked with pain and teleported away, leaving the BERSERKER to crush his prize between five clenched fingers.
"FoRCed mY HAnD." He located Kismet again. "NO GOING BACK."
Stopping wasn't an option. If the divine realms crumbled and Elatra imploded...well, that would be a faster end than what the gods had in store for its people. At least this way their deaths would be quick and hopefully painless – and his friends wouldn't be turned into Skills tortured for all eternity.
Still, Kismet did have a point. Destroying reality wasn't exactly the ideal outcome. There had to be a way to speed up the conclusion of their fight. Rob was certain he would win if given enough time, but he couldn't guarantee it would be before either his body or the divine realms collapsed.
{Ascend.}
Like a snake slithering through a minefield, Leveling High skirted past the whirlwind of thoughts and emotions raging within Rob's mind. He attempted to tune out its voice, yet Humanity's curse refused to be denied, the static loudening until he was compelled to respond. Quit distracting me, he snapped. In case you haven't noticed, I'm FUCKING. BUSY.
{You seek to ensure victory over those who rule above,} Leveling High continued, without missing a step. {As do I.}
Then sit back, shut up, and–
{Ignoring your deficiencies will not make them disappear. This body is...feeble. Incomplete. Unfit to wield the power contained therein. Like a polished sword attached to a brittle hilt, liable to snap in twain at any moment.}
Rob grit his teeth. He couldn't deny Leveling High's assertions. Normally he'd just tell it to piss off, but considering how much was at stake here...
With a feeling like he'd sat down to deal with the devil, Rob sighed. Then what do you propose? That we upgrade my body somehow? I don't think putting more points into Vitality would help, even if I had any to spare. Me being so juiced up on stats is half the problem.
It shook its head. {You have far surpassed the limitations of mortality. Strengthening your power further would be akin to pouring water into an overflowing cup.}
So we...what, increase the size of the cup?
Static akin to laughter echoed inside his head. {We do away with it entirely.}
An icy chill began creeping up Rob's spine, as if the cold hands of fate were working their way towards his neck. He recalled a system notification from days before – 'Your Race has morphed from Human (?) to: Ascending HUMAN'.
Not Ascended. Ascending.
Weeks-old memories came surging to the forefront. 'The Heartkiller is closer to our form of life than those you call friends,' the Blight-child of Elysium had once said. 'As long as you continue to live, eventually, you will become an existence with the power to crush the Others and free the Skills from their shackles. You are no longer one of the Ephemeral. Now, you are a cocoon, metamorphosing into something grander. When you emerge, you will be as the Eternal.'
The Blight-child had laughed at him, then. 'After joining us, preserving these worlds will no longer be your desire.'
Rob grimaced. Denied, he flatly told Leveling High. Whatever you're about to suggest isn't happening.
It scoffed at him. {Your prejudices blind you. Do you think the gods have need of physical bodies? Does it hinder them in any capacity? No – the opposite. By definition, infinity cannot be constrained. Discard this useless flesh, and your conquest of the divine realms is assured.}
Maybe you didn't hear me when I said–
{By all means. Spurn my counsel...and condemn your friends to death. Shall their lives be worth it, in the end?}
Rob sucked in air through clenched teeth.
{Ascend.} Leveling High purred with anticipation. {You are bound by a prison of meat, bone, and blood. Break free. Finish what has already begun. Gaze upon the tapestry of infinity in all its dreadful splendor. Seize victory not as a Human, but as a completed, transcendent HUMAN.}
With a scream to drown out the static, Rob chased after Kismet again and again. The god was in full-on panic mode, eschewing offensive attacks in favor of perpetual retreat, focused wholly on keeping the BERSERKER as far away as possible. He would teleport the instant that Rob laid eyes on him, frantically stalling for his life.
It was – quite unintentionally – providing evidence to Leveling High's claims. If Kismet was on the defensive, catching him would take time they might not have.
I... Rob narrowed his eyes. How would I finish Ascending, anyway? It isn't like I can just flip a switch and make it happen.
{Incorrect.}
He blinked. WHAT?
{You have long since achieved the qualifications for true godhood,} Leveling High explained, in a lecturing tone. {There is no milestone that remains necessary to achieve. Rather than needing to overcome some hurdle of strength or power, the obstacle barring your path is more...arbitrary. Self-imposed.}
Humanity's curse seemed to peer into his soul. When it spoke next, its voice was filled with disgust. {You remain mortal because you wish to do so – both consciously and subconsciously. The Ascension of a nascent deity has been obstructed by cheap sentimentality.}
Rob almost started an argument over its usage of 'cheap', but he exercised restraint, keenly aware that there was bigger fish to fry. Can't do anything about the subconscious. I am \not* activating Melancholy Resistance.*
{Nor should you,} Leveling High remarked, shuddering at the prospect. {A grand statement of intent will be sufficient to shift your mentality. I believe...yes.}
The static churned like a hive of buzzing wasps. {When you next tear off a piece of the leader god's mana...even if just a sliver...devour it. Gorge yourself on their essence.}
Bile threatened to rise to the top of Rob's throat. Seems excessive, he mused, trying and failing to keep his tone lighthearted. To become a god, I eat a god? Wouldn't that make me a divine cannibal?
{You ARE a cannibal.} Leveling High's voice wavered, its veneer of helpfulness slipping to reveal the madness that lay beneath. {What do you think you've been DOING for nearly a YEAR? You kill, ingest your prey's Experience, and MAKE THEIR POWER YOUR OWN. This world is one of consumption and parasitism – devouring a god's essence is merely a more HONEST variant of THE SAME actions.}
...You clearly weren't paying attention during Diplomacy's PR lessons. Rob pursued Kismet once again, pressing his fingernails into his palms when the god hurriedly teleported away. There is such a thing as being too straightforward. If you want people to listen to you, then maybe dress up your words so they don't sound so horrifying.
{BUT AM I WRONG?}
Rob had no answer to that.
Bolts of divine mana peppered his skin. Kismet had barely managed to squeeze an attack in-between his escapes. The bolts ricocheted off Rob's skin like ping-pong balls, leaving minor scrapes and nothing more. It wasn't anywhere close to bypassing Almighty Resistance and his massive HP pool.
Yet it also reminded him of the mana-spears that Kismet had sent towards the rest of Riardin's Rangers. His Party members only possessed a shared, diluted version of Almighty Resistance, and their HP was a fraction of his. If Kismet aimed another attack of that caliber at them...how many would perish, right then and there?
Was Leveling High correct? What point was there to sentimentality if it just got his friends killed?
In truth, Rob knew that it didn't really matter if he completed his Ascension. Based on what he had planned for himself after the gods were dead, little would change either way. Still...he also knew that Ascending would be a one-way trip. No take-backs. If he went through with it, a fundamental part of him would be irrevocably altered.
Something twinged in a corner of his mind. It wasn't Leveling High, or his rage, or any of the other emotions currently dominating his headspace. This was a familiar friend; perhaps Rob's #1 most trusted confidant since he'd first set foot in Elatra. One that had rarely ever steered him wrong.
Paranoia.
And at the moment, it was telling him to be very careful before jumping into the deep end.
Ten teleports.
{What?}
Give it ten more Kismet teleports, Rob said. If I haven't dealt him a serious injury by then....I'll do what I need to do. He grimaced as Kismet vanished before he'd even finished the thought. Ten starting now.
Leveling High's static quieted. It resembled a patron at a restaurant who'd ordered their meal, and was waiting patiently for the main course to arrive.
Rob didn't waste time being offended over its nonchalance. Free of distractions, he immediately swept his gaze across the divine realms, pinpointing his quarry in a micro-instant. The BERSERKER dashed forward, pushing his body as far as he could, layering Rampages on top of Dexterity that made the laws of physics want to curl up and weep.
Kismet was prepared. He'd drawn more mana from the fractured rifts, quickening his speed and reactions. It wasn't much, but it was enough to keep his head above water, not yet outpaced by their continually escalating arms race.
The HUMAN struck, the god fled, and both were left in the same position as before.
{One.}
Rob turned on a dime, charging without needing to look. He'd heard the moment that Kismet's teleport ended. It afforded him a split-second head start.
A gravity well suddenly appeared below his feet, as if a miniaturized black hole was weighing him down. Apparently, Kismet had set it up ahead of time as a just-in-case trap. Rob pierced through the spell's area of effect before it could ramp up to something dangerous, but his pace was slowed by a hair in the process, and his prey escaped.
{Two.}
You know what? Screw this. Rob whirled away from Kismet's newest location and blasted straight towards one of the lesser deities that his Party members were fighting.
He'd been too hung up on getting even with a hated foe – when there were seven other juicy morsels for him to play with. This way, Kismet would either sit back and watch as his allies were massacred, or the god would be forced to act instead of running like a goddamn cowar–
Sense Mana alerted Rob to magic gathering behind.
Pivoting, he leapt into the air. Rob superimposed himself in front of Kismet, bodyblocking the rainstorm of destructive mana that was about to be unleashed upon Riardin's Rangers.
Due to his swift response, the attack was released early. A simple Purge Divinity shield prevented him from incurring any damage. Rob still felt no sense of triumph as the mana dissipated around him. He just wasn't fast enough to kill the lesser gods and protect his Party at the same time – or at least not fast enough that he should gamble their lives on it.
Kismet disappearing a moment later didn't help matters either.
{Three.}
Frontal assaults weren't guaranteed to succeed, and targeting the other gods was a no-go. Could he take Kismet by surprise? Increase his Dexterity?
Rob contemplated mining Never Forget Your Rage for more stats, but swiftly vetoed the idea. His body was already struggling to hold itself together. Putting additional strain on a shaky foundation seemed...unwise.
Plus – at the risk of eating crow in the near future – he didn't actually think it was possible to feel angrier at the gods than he was right now. Seriously, what was left?
He hated them for sending him to a fantasy deathworld. He hated them for tormenting his friends and family. He hated them for being partially responsible for the Blight. He hated them for what they'd done to Elatra and Earth. He hated them for all the lives they'd stolen. He hated them for being the living embodiments of indifference and cruelty. He hated that they fostered good PR among the people they oppressed. He hated how monsters of such craven hypocrisy were also immeasurably powerful. He hated the sensation of divine mana crawling on his skin. He hated the unsettling sound of their voices. He hated their bizarre formless appearances. He hated them for being pompous pricks. He hated whenever they tried to relate to him. He hated whenever they didn't.
Most of all, he hated that they were still alive.
Even if he found out that they'd personally antagonized him since birth or some petty nonsense like that, it wouldn't measure up to the litany of transgressions they'd committed thus far. The blazing inferno within his soul could burn no hotter. Should burn no hotter. For his sanity's sake, if nothing else.
Kismet teleported. It wasn't in response to anything. He'd merely anticipated some sort of action – and was then baffled afterwards when he noticed the rampaging BERSERKER standing quietly in deep thought.
{Four.}
Rob advanced. While he didn't have a plan yet, he'd also learned that if he gave Kismet the slightest amount of breathing room, bad things tended to happen.
Can any of my Skills give me an edge? Unfortunately, he didn't think so. As usual, his lack of ranged options was biting him in the ass when it mattered most. Almost everything he could use required getting in close – which was the whole freaking problem – and none would be more effective than Purge Divinity, regardless.
Maybe I could set up a Waymark point, then catch Kismet's teleport with one of mine...no, that won't work either. The odds of him popping in next to a random Waymark point are slim. Could fill the battlefield with lots of Marks, but even then I have to consider the Skill's activation time. With my current Dexterity, it'd honestly be faster just to run at him.
The vast majority of his abilities simply weren't up to par in a clash with divinity. Limit Break, Purge Divinity, and Never Forget Your Rage had been specifically designed by the Skills to facilitate deicide. Something like Power Slash couldn't possibly compare to jailbroken stats and a touch of death.
As an act of defiance against his own logic, he cast Enmity, the only ability that could feasibly hit Kismet at range. The god casually shrugged off its effect before promptly escaping.
{Five.}
Like a frustrated animal, Rob snarled and gave chase. Just need to keep trying. Kismet isn't perfect.
{Six.}
Sooner or later, he's going to mess up.
{Seven.}
He's going to mess up.
{Eight.}
HE HAS TO MESS UP.
Suddenly, Kismet transformed his right hand into a blade of mana. With one harsh motion, he sliced open his own left arm.
By now, Rob had conditioned himself to never stop moving forward, even if something shocked him – which this sight very much did. His mouth dropped open, and Leveling High paused in the middle of eating its metaphorical popcorn. They still kept advancing without an iota of hesitation.
And ran straight into the mana cloud leaking out from Kismet's wound.
Rob blinked, opening his eyes to a wonderful day. The twisting plains looked dazzlingly beautiful, with fauna and plantlife lit by rays of effervescent light from the twin stars shining above. People cheerfully went about their day, happily shaking their trunks in shows of greeting, or rattling their scales to initiate merry games.
All was at peace.
Until – in unison – everyone froze. The tumult of life went quiet in an instant, replaced with pensive silence.
As if they'd been struck by the creeping, pervasive sensation of being watched.
A sound rang out. Half of them immediately fell over dead, fluids gushing from their ruined bodies.
The survivors could only lay there, crippled and in pain, as more people slowly rose into the air. Invisible fingers seemed to pluck them from the ground – and then began ripping off their limbs, one at a time, like a child dissecting butterflies–
Rob dragged himself back to the present.
It had taken much less time than before to recognize what was happening. Now that he knew what to expect, experiencing the remnant souls' lives wasn't so different from the dreamlike quality of an Attunement vision. Although...realizing that he'd witnessed the end of a world preceding Elatra did cause his thoughts to hitch for a single moment.
Which was just enough for Kismet to forge a spear of mana, then send it plunging through Rob's eye, skull, and brain. Its tip was forged to shred anything it touched, no matter how durable or Resistant.
The god whooped with glee – only to wince as the HUMAN's sole reaction was a long, drawn-out sigh. With an air of exasperation, he reached up and yanked the divine spear free with a nauseating splorch.
His eye had been reduced to a seeping red mess. He closed its eyelid. When he opened it again, the orb within had already Regenerated, now sporting an unamused glare.
It was something of a unique moment. Mid-battle events didn't typically leave both combatants feeling disheartened. The all-powerful god was losing faith that he could ever hope to stop Rob's onslaught...
And the BERSERKER didn't know if he could justify continuing on like this. His body still felt like it was pulling itself apart; if anything, the sensation was growing more pronounced as their battle progressed. While Kismet would make a fatal mistake eventually, Rob couldn't guarantee that he would last long enough to capitalize on it.
Unless he followed Leveling High's advice and–
With a howl that shook the divine realms, Rob launched his stolen spear at Kismet. His aim was true, yet it sailed through empty air, the god's afterimage tauntingly fading away.
{Nine.}
Final chance.

2024.05.20 04:32 Vegetable_Insect_966 K-5

So I think I was just born introverted. However, I was much more confident (and even sometimes aggressive in kindergarten.)
Something my teachers always wrote on my report cards is that I wouldn’t stop talking. This is so far removed from my adult and teenage self they actually sound like different people. Like between K-5 I would have multiple best friends and from 6-12 I had 2 (with gaps, by accident.) I would usually be allowed to sit with a close friend during initial seating and then be moved permanently by early fall this led to me playing weird make believe games with paper figures in my desk, day dreaming, play, etc. Often just diving into the lesson to be in a reading group with SOMEONE I could take to. Did anyone experience this? Thoughts?

2024.05.20 04:14 Rough-Ad-606 Navigating the Emotional and Mental Toll of DUIs: A Cautionary Tale of Engaging with Intoxalock Interlock. Read below 👇

For several months, I have dedicated significant time and effort to this thread, prioritizing it above other aspects of my life. While some may perceive this level of engagement as unconventional, I am resolute in my commitment to assisting others in navigating this process, aiming to prevent them from encountering the pitfalls I experienced with my chosen interlock provider, Intoxalock.
My ordeal commenced with the installation of an Intoxalock device in my vehicle, which swiftly led to battery-related issues within the initial week. Possessing a background in vehicle maintenance and repair, I accurately attributed these troubles to the device, impacting my relatively new vehicle. Regrettably, the customer service experience exacerbated the situation, as the persistent issues caused by Intoxalock resulted in violations, mandated towing expenses, and lockout fees. Moreover, the pricing discrepancies starkly contrasted with the initial discussions during my provider selection process, with undisclosed fees proving exorbitant. Compelled to engage with an application and sign an agreement laden with onerous clauses, including relinquishing the right to legal recourse in case of exploitation or financial harm, further compounded the unfavorable circumstances.
It has come to my attention that Intoxalock maintains a presence on Reddit, disseminating misleading information in an attempt to discredit not only my narrative but also that of numerous individuals who have endured similar hardships with the company.
My dissent is not directed at interlock systems per se, but rather at Intoxalock for what I perceive as a deliberate design flaw in their device, creating an undue drain on the vehicle battery when the engine is inactive, resulting in battery depletion, subsequent towing, repairs, and incurred lockout charges. This cycle, in turn, serves as a pretext for prolonging the interlock sentence and facilitating further exploitation. Notably, Intoxalock has garnered the highest volume of complaints among interlock providers in the states where they operate, with a disproportionate share of grievances attributed to their services compared to other providers.
Allegations regarding Intoxalock's employment practices, including the recruitment of an individual linked to the Department of Defense, and suspicions of financial impropriety to influence state-level interlock supervisors, underscore a troubling pattern. Public records, including Freedom of Information Act requests, may shed light on these claims. The recruitment of a former Director of Product Management from LexisNexis, a prominent risk analysis firm utilized by insurance companies, further underscores the strategic acumen with which Intoxalock navigates its operations, potentially contributing to their sustained predatory behavior.
Notably, Intoxalock's decertification in Virginia and Missouri, alongside ongoing investigations in various states and multiple pending legal actions in federal district courts across the country, underscore the gravity of the situation. Consumer Safety Technology, operating under the trade name Intoxalock, is the subject of these legal actions.
The utilization of TrustPilot for reputation management, including the retention of an executive account to curate reviews, raises questions about the authenticity of the overwhelmingly positive feedback attributed to Intoxalock. The systematic removal of negative reviews and the orchestrated dissemination of positive feedback via social media channels further erode the credibility of their online presence.
While issues may arise with other interlock providers, the magnitude of challenges posed by Intoxalock surpasses that of its counterparts, warranting a call for accountability and reform. Failure to address these concerns may set a precedent for similar exploitative practices within the industry, necessitating proactive measures to safeguard consumers' rights and prevent widespread harm.
It is crucial to remain vigilant against misinformation propagated by Intoxalock's social media team across various platforms, including Reddit, and to advocate for transparency and accountability within the industry. My personal experience has fueled a steadfast commitment to raising awareness and advocating for change, driven by a desire to prevent others from enduring similar hardships.
In closing, I urge individuals undergoing this process or those who have traversed similar paths to persevere and glean valuable lessons from their experiences. Mistakes are inherent to human nature, but the ability to learn, evolve, and advocate for justice underscores our capacity for growth and resilience. A DUI should not serve as a pretext for dehumanization or exploitation, underscoring the importance of upholding ethical standards and fostering a culture of accountability. Wishing strength and fortitude to all individuals navigating these challenges—may we collectively strive for a safer, more equitable future. Drive responsibly, my friends.
