2024.05.21 14:58 Zaffar_Zavier Oil Service R&M Engineer with Family contract

Hello, I've been following this subreddit for a while, thanks for all the sharing and information. Just now I have received an official offer to move to Oman with a family status local contract from the company I have worked with for 12 years.
I got an offer 2650 ommonth THP (basic plus allowances) plus other benefits such as medical insurance (for me and family) and education for kids (1500 omr per year for each kid).
I am not sure if this is a good offer as this is actually less than what I expected and a bit less than what I got in my previous country of assignment, but we really interesting in moving to Oman as we heard that it is a calm and peaceful Islamic country.
What I want to ask, can I and my family (2 kids) have a good living while still have some saving with that salary? More importantly regarding the education, will the amount provided by the company cover all the education fee? My kids are currently in grade 3 and grade 5. Thanks

2024.05.21 14:53 Brave-Significance70 Potential issue returning to Japan at the border with debt?

I will preface this by saying that I lived in Japan for many years and I intend to move back soon. I just need some insight into my situation.
I was married in and lived in Japan for many years, eventually got divorced and ultimately decided to move to another country last year.
After a month or so after leaving I started recieving emails from a lawyer stating that back I owe money (just under 40,000yen) to a company called Paidy which is an online Buy now pay later service. I signed up to it ages ago and used to let my ex-wife use it for household things on occasion. I brushed it off thinking it was a scam/spam at the time until I looked recently and noticed that there were multiple emails sent per month up until december last year stating that the payment is overdue after the deadline and the lawyer may take legal action. The account is also actually under the wrong name. When my ex made the account she wrote my old. pre-marital name down. What a nice surprise.
I attempted to contact them however, it lead to a website with no contact information at all, the email itself was a noreply address. There was no number, email etc. Only a local Japanese bank account to pay it into. I attempted to log into my Paidy account and realised that the website is Geolocked and you cannot log in outside of Japan - even after trying to use a VPN too. I also have no way of contacting my ex wife to sort it out. (Actually, her using my money and having debt was one of the reasons we divorced in the first place).
I have recently been offered a job in Japan and I will be travelling there this week as a tourist to talk about it and move back. In this time I intend to also pay this debt.
I am now quite anxious that it will potentially cause me issues at the border. Is there any chance this will flag up at immigration? Will I have any issues entering the country? Does anybody have any idea?

2024.05.21 14:42 BoutxDatxAction Should I move out of an Apartment I Love to save $1k a month

Situation:
Bring in $3k after taxes - in mid 20s - not much debt - got scholarship for college and have ~$6k in total debt (credit card and personal loan with a manageable interest rate)
Current apartment (in NJ, 1 bed 1 bath) I love I am locked in at $2k a month because I would be renewing and they can only Jack rent up so much per year legally in NJ, my exact apartment is going for $2450 if you move in as new tenant right now
I have opportunity to move into a moderate housing unit through state for a total of $1100 a month. The apartment is a 1 bedroom, slightly smaller - not updated like current apartment (not renovated like current apartment is) but it’s in a good/safe community where the updated apartments also go for $2k+ - so it’s safe, just not renovated and it’s a little gross in my opinion (especially compared to where I am now) but it’s is doable/livable if I had to.
Is saving ~$10k over the course of 12 month lease worth the hassle of moving + leaving a place I actually enjoy living?
I obviously am not saving much - my monthly take home is $3k right now and rent is $2k…. I don’t have much emergency savings yet, and don’t get family help with money — I am maxing out 401k contributions at the moment which makes take home pay a little less
I am expecting to get a new job within the next 2 months - I am studying for professional exams which will immediately jump me up in salary by at least $1k a month and potentially much more in near future after that.
Is saving the $10k THAT big of a deal at this stage in my life? Is it worth it to move somewhere I may not be happy from a place I know I am comfortable and is a lot yes, but less than comparable apartment under normal circumstances in my area?
I have like a week to decide and I can’t sleep over this. I am comfortable and more or less happy where I am. I am having a difficult time weighing pros and cons of saving an extra $1k a month. It’ll help me build my savings and allow me to do more things like take a trip/buy new golf clubs - more breathing room essentially - but when I get this pay bump - I will be able to do that in current apartment as well - BUT then I think about a full year of making $4k+ a month and only having to pay $1100 in rent and that would be even more than $10k saved over the course of the year
Really struggling here, having options is a blessing but this one is causing me such stress and anxiety. Do I stay where I am happy and then live with the fact I am leaving money on the table that can change the way I’m saving/preparing for next phase of life (home ownership, building retirement fund) —- or move to a place where I will save more money but I don’t know if I’ll be happy there. It is only a year lease…. If I’m that miserable would just need to make it 12 months (but would then need to try to reenter the apartment market at current jacked up rates and no longer locked into my “lower” $2k a month rent that they legally can only gradually Jack up.
Please help. I know I have to make the decision but desperate for outside perspective and advice. Is the saving in rent over 12 months and the extra cash I’ll be able to save worth leaving a place I love that’s under market value but still too expensive? Would you move or not?

2024.05.21 14:37 DingiMD Paying back a bonus and amending taxes?

Hi all,
My wife recently had to leave her job early because we are moving. She received a $17500 sign on bonus in 2023.
The company is asking for the full amount paid back minus $3020 my wife got vested for during months 7-11, for a total payback of $14580.
It is in the contract that we pay back “100% of the total payment”. We aren’t sure if this specifically means the pretax amount in legal terms, or if we could negotiate paying the post-tax that was deposited into our account.
Additionally, they are offering to have us payback by deducting $2916 from each of her paychecks for the next 5 months as opposed to a lump sum.
We have not idea what we are doing, so my questions are:
  1. Does “100% of the total payment” typically mean pretax amount?
  2. Is there a best way to pay this back from a tax perspective? Lump sum vs over 5 months
  3. What would I need to do amend my tax returns in 2023 to adjust for paying the bonus back? I’m very tax naive and use turbo tax, so I wouldn’t even know where to begin.
Thanks!

2024.05.21 14:26 upbstock prepprrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The metal Olympics are taking place in the wild world of commodities, with gold, silver and copper-based bronze all scoring a place on the podium. New highs continue to be notched in the latest games, though there is skepticism about the results and the possibilities of a rigged performance. However, for those betting on which medal might be awarded next, there is plenty to consider for all the competitors:
Gold: The yellow metal just hit levels of over $2,450 per ounce despite a strong American economy and U.S. dollar. Analysts have pointed to a coming Fed pivot on interest rates, as well as geopolitical tensions that have increased demand for the safe haven. Not only are investors getting involved, but there has been a large amount of buying from central banks, while the retail crowd is even getting in on the action with gold bars from Costco (COST).
Silver: The metal has outperformed gold in recent weeks, bringing its total gain to 32% YTD, compared to gold's 18% return. It also benefits from all the safe haven attributes of its shiny cousin, such as a popular hedge against inflation, along with some distinctive practical qualities of its own. Silver is used for industrial purposes, like solar panel cells, and is relatively cheap in ounces when compared to pricey gold.
Copper: The latest rip has made numerous headlines after hitting all-time highs on exchanges across the globe. Fear of supply shortages and trade disputes has helped generate buzz around the industrial bellwether, which is also key for the green transition and rising electrification needs. Copper is used in EVs, wind turbines, power transmission and AI data centers, meaning there are actual supply and demand fundamentals to assess when evaluating the worth of the red metal.
Too shiny? The commodity competition can experience chaotic events, with scandals and manipulation hitting items like nickel and cocoa in recent years. There is speculation that this might be going on this time around, triggered by leveraged contract buying, short squeeze momentum, or price premiums on different exchanges. Others see a lot of metal potential that has even resulted in some real-world M&A action, such as BHP's (BHP) $39B proposed takeover of Anglo American (OTCQX:AAUKF), which would create the world's top copper producer.
Wall Street leadership Succession plans are "well on the way" at JPMorgan (JPM), with Jamie Dimon saying it's up to the board to determine how much longer he'll remain CEO. "I think when I can't put the jersey on and give it my full effort, I should leave," he announced at the bank's Investor Day, adding that the timetable "is not five years anymore." Dimon also outlined that the lender will not repurchase a lot of stock at current prices, noting that such a buyback - at a valuation of 2.3 times tangible book value - would be "a mistake." JPM shares slipped 4.5% following the comments on Tuesday, but are up more than 40% over the past year. (60 comments)
Pulling a 180? Cryptocurrencies are back in rally mode as traders increasingly bet on the approval of the first spot ether ETF. While the industry previously did not expect the SEC to give the green light, the regulator has reportedly requested that ETF issuers update 19b-4 filings on an accelerated basis. The development signals some progress, but it doesn't mean it's a done deal. Ether (ETH-USD) is still up big on the news, soaring 20% to $3,708. The SEC's decision on VanEck's spot ether ETF application is expected on Thursday, and one from ARK Invest is due on Friday. (1 comment)
Bear capitulation One of Wall Street's prominent bears has finally turned positive on his outlook for the stock market as indexes continue to hit record highs. Mike Wilson, equity strategist at Morgan Stanley, now calls for the S&P 500 (SP500) to rise to 5,400, higher than his previous year-end target of 4,500, which was one of the lowest on Wall Street. The forecast is derived from a 19x P/E multiple on 12-month forward EPS based on June 2026 of $283. "This earnings path is based on our economists' growth forecasts, output from our earnings models, and our view that AI diffusion will boost margins starting in 2025," Wilson declared. (48 comments)

2024.05.21 14:16 thatimmi Probation legal options

Hi all, I've started a new job this year. I'm in probation period till July.
In my discussion with my manager today he raised that I wasn't performing to his expectations and he'd expect more from my level.
It's a new industry for me and there is a fair bit of learning required to execute some of my tasks that included valuation, business modelling, financial planning reporting for a large multi Billion dollar revenue.
My manager rarely communicates his expectations clearly and drops things on us in the last minute. I've spent nights and days working trying to do my best, including trying to lead my team. Its team of 2 team members, who were told they werent meeting expectations prior to my onboarding.
The manager communicates directly to the team many times with changing priorities and information, sometimes leaving me out of the loop. On many occasions I've looked past it and thought it's just how they work. It impacted how the team and I worked and I many times had to catch up.
My manager constantly raised issues with my team members work and wanted me to convey those issues.
Today he raised my performance and I said I'm doing all can and his expectations are for someone step into a role and drive with no support from him, perform at speed, deliver everything on time and to what he needs that he can't communicate. It's unachievable and frankly not manageable.
He said if I want to continue in the role ie in my next month he needs to see big step up to make it to probation.
I know they have the right to terminate per law. I quit my last job and made fair effort to perform the role inspite of being setup to fail. How can this be legal for a listed business to operate this way? Where is the protection for the employee in this circumstances?

2024.05.21 14:14 BobbyKick Cashed out on a sale, how to handle to assets?

Hi all, coming here because I've been reading the solid advice on this sub for a long time.
I recently cashed out on a sale and have $80k to work with. $48.5k of that needs to be used to pay down a personal loan (obv high interest), so that leaves $31.5k to invest.
My plan has been to put $6,500 into a Roth and $12k into my 401(k). The rest I'll use to pay off my private student loans at $13k.
Hate to raise this but is now the time re: the market and all (I know no one can truly predict, but...).
Also, one thing that's confusing me is that with the $80k sitting in my high-yield savings account I'm making $4k per month at 4.2% (have $95k there actually) - should I let that ride at all? (I assume the Roth and 401k will provide 7-12% returns, but on smaller amounts)
would love to hear what you think of this plan. THANK YOU

2024.05.21 14:12 priya_dogra Commercial Heat Pump Water Heater Upgrade in Victoria

Commercial Heat Pump Water Heater Upgrade in Victoria
While the governments across the globe seem to be focused on rapid adoption of zero-emission vehicles and solar panels to cut carbon emission, a new climate-tech hero has emerged on the scene — the heat pump.
Though the first heat pump was created in the mid 19th century, the technology found its place in the spotlight only in the early 21st century.
Why are heat pumps tech heroes?
Unlike conventional technologies — which use gas or electricity for space heating/cooling and water heating — a heat pump pulls warmth from surrounding air (even if it is snowing outside), amplifies it, and pumps it inside to warm a space or water inside the water tank.
The heat pumps are powered by electricity, but their energy output — in the form of water heating or space heating/cooling — is 3-5 times greater than the energy consumed.
Since, we are currently offering upgrades under Victoria government commercial hot water rebates program, the rest sections of this blog will be focused on the commercial heat pump powered hot water systems and rebate application process.
Commercial Heat pumps offered under Victoria government programs
The Victoria government has set an ambitious target of 45-50 percent emission reduction — to 2005 emission levels — and net-zero emissions by 2050.
To achieve this target, reducing emissions in the electricity sector — which accounted for 51.8% of Victoria's total net emissions in 2021 — becomes all important.
About a quarter of the total electricity produced is consumed by commercial buildings in Australia, and appliances like water heaters, air conditioners and freezers are responsible for the highest energy use.
Energy-efficient appliances can reduce the energy consumption and decarbonise commercial buildings by a large margin.
The reduction achieved by achieving higher energy efficiency will in turn result in more energy and money savings for businesses and reduce their carbon footprints.
If you run a business in Victoria state, achieving energy efficiency in your office/workplace building has never been so doable and budget friendly.
The Victorian government —under the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program — is offering free replacement of your commercial electric boilers/water heaters with air-sourced heat pump powered commercial water heaters. The rebates are also on offer for replacement of gas-fired water heaters with heat pump units.
The 3 to 5X energy efficiency achieved by heat pumps offer a great advantage for businesses who are looking to reduce their operating cost and carbon footprints.
However, to achieve this, there are the following variables you need to factor in to achieve the maximum quantum of reduction in energy demand at your business:

  • COP (Coefficient Of Performance) of heat pump unit.
  • Quality of installation.
  • Size of heat pump system
  • Energy star rating
  • Compressor efficiency
  • Type of compressor
  • Insulation of pipes and water tank
  • Warranty
Application of heat pump technology in Industrial & Commercial sector
Heat pump technology is used in a range of industrial and commercial applications, such as:
  • Product heating and cooling in agro-based industries.
  • Space heating and cooling in agriculture and industries
  • Water heating and steam generation in industrial applications
  • Pool water heating and cooling in swimming pools
  • Air heating in agribusinesses and industries
  • Drying, cooling, boiling, distillation, and blanching in food & beverages industries.
  • Drying, melting and preheating in food processing applications
Upsides of commercial heat pump water heater
Employing Heat pumps in commercial and industrial applications offers the following advantages:
High energy-efficiency
Commercial heat pumps offer 3–5 times COP (Coefficient of Performance) than their gas or resistance counterparts. This makes them suitable for reducing energy demand and energy bills of the various commercial and industrial processes.
Low operating cost
The cost of running heat pumps is always lower than gas-fired or electric boilers. Here is a comparison of the operating cost of various commercial heating technologies
Comparing the operating cost of various commercial heating technologies.
As we can see in this chart, a commercial air-source heat pump can deliver 1 GJ (gigajoules) of heat (when electricity is charged u/120/MWh) for $12.92. The resistive water heater delivers the same heat for $33.33 and gas-fired steam boilers deliver the same amount of heat for $30.60 (when electricity is priced @ $24/GJ) and for $15.65 (when electricity is priced @ $12/GJ).
Low maintenance cost
Rightly sized and installed heat pumps need less maintenance than their electric and gas counterparts. Maintenance is only required if the manufacturer has recommended replacing air filters and cleaning evaporator and condenser coils after a certain period of time. One can find the coils and filters replacement schedule in the product document supplied with the heat pump system.
Lower emissions
Due to higher energy-efficiency, heat pumps produce lower emissions even if the electricity grid is powered by the coal-fired power plants. As the Australian electricity grid is getting decarbonised every year and its emission factor (amount of CO2 per MWh of generated power) is expected to reduce to less than 0.3–0.45 t CO2/MWh by 2030, replacing resistive and gas-fired boilers/water heaters with heat pumps will deliver a substantial reduction in businesses and industrials sites.
Pairing with solar panels
Powering heat pumps with solar panels can further reduce operating cost of heat pumps and achieve the holy grail of climate conscious businesses — net-zero emissions.
Integrating with thermal storage systems
Integrating heat pumps with thermal storage units (such as insulated water tanks) offers several advantages, such as:
  • Reduced heat loss from the stored water.
  • More efficiency
  • More savings: thermal storage systems can be programmed to store thermal energy during off-peak hours and utilize it during peak hours. It saves money and reduces dependence on the electricity grid.
Safety benefits
Heat pumps reduce fire hazards in commercial and industrial processes as they are fully electric and handling of combustible fuels/gasses (as in the case of gas-fired boilers) is not required.
Downsides of heat pump water heaters
Despite the above advantages that heat pump hot water systems offer, they are associated with the following drawbacks:
Limited efficiency in colder climate
As the heat pump systems are primed for sourcing warmth of outdoor or ambient air and transferring it to the sink (which may be a water tank or a space inside a building), the efficiency of heat pumps drops significantly when the outdoor air temperature falls below zero degree celsius.
The sub-zero temperature conditions (during the winter months of June, July, and August) in Victoria state are not a concern, as the average temperatures range from 6.5 C to 14.2 C during these months.
Limited output temperature
Most commercial heat pump water heating units can achieve maximum output temperature in the 60 to 80 degree celsius range. Some heat pumps use auxiliary resistive heating (called booster) to increase the max output temperature range, but it makes them less efficient.
Cost
Heat pump technology based commercial water heaters are more expensive — than gas and electric — upfront. Businesses in Victoria can utilize the government rebates/incentives to reduce the upfront cost.
Refrigerant consideration in commercial heat pumps
Refrigerant’s global warming potential (GWP) and toxicity level are two key considerations that one needs to consider while choosing earth-friendly and safe commercial water heating systems. GWP is the heat trapping potential (relative to carbon dioxide) of a substance.
A heat pump with carbon dioxide refrigerant has a GWP of 1. All natural refrigerants like CO2 (R744), propane (R290) and ammonia (R717) have low global warming potential.
Among these natural refrigerants, carbon dioxide has a low toxicity level and ammonia — which is a flammable and corrosive gas — has a high toxicity level.
Let us walk you through the upgrade process.
Defrosting heat pump
During normal operating conditions, air source heat pumps sources the warmth from ambient outdoor air and transfers it to a heat sink such as indoor space or water storage unit.
However, in cold winter days when outdoor air temperature dips below freezing (0 °C) and wind speed is below 16 km/h, moisture in the air condenses into ice crystals, frost starts forming on the fins of evaporator coils of the heat pump.
When the air temperature continues falling several notches below the zero degree Celsius, a thick layer of frost can form on the fins. At this stage, removing the frost is the only way to resume the heat transfer from outdoor air to a water tank or an indoor space.
Commercial heat pump water heaters automatically defrost the evaporator fins by reversing the refrigeration flow. It is achieved by a four-way reversing valve (a solenoid coil operated valve) and heat pump sensors monitoring the air temperature and accumulation of frost on fins of evaporator coils.
The reversing valve directs the passage of hot refrigerant from the compressor to the evaporator coils to melt the build-up of frost and ice.
Some commercial air source heat pump water heating systems also have an auxiliary water tank to prevent heat loss in the main water tank during the defrost cycle.
Most commercial heat pump water heaters employ a hot gas defrost method to defrost the evaporator coils.

2024.05.21 14:12 Saint82scarlet WIBTAH If I reported to the DVLA about my friends gf wanting to buy a car

My mates gf is type 1 diabetic, she has had loads of uncontrolled hyper and hypos where she has needed to go to hospital because of how poor her control is.
She wants to buy a car next month, I've already told my friend that it's a really bad idea, and legally she can't drive, because she has had too many hypos.
She looks after herself so badly, that she has actually had a lot of her intestines removed. She used to inject herself once every 3 days, instead of 3 times a day.
Her diet is extremely poor too, eating crisps constantly, and saying that it's ok for her.
I am type 2 diabetic, and I've reduced my bg from 120 down to 47, so I have done a lot of research.
She wants to waste what little money she has on a car, they are on benefits, and recently has spent a significant amount of money recently on essentially nothing. (She had back payment)
Thing is, I don't think my friend thinks I'm serious about her not legally being able to drive and my warning a few months ago, saying I would report her to the DVLA.
I don't know if I should do this anyway.

Said it once and I’ll say it again it’s a treasure trove of content especially for x-men fans and at $9.99 per month which amounts to the price of two issues you get access to a large library of marvel comics yet you never see any YouTube ads or ads on the ad supported Disney plus membership it’s always some random Facebook post or instagram post and I’m not sure that should be all they do for marketing seeing as comic shops aren’t exactly as plentiful as they once were

2024.05.21 14:04 throwaway07072 In the process of buying a house I don’t want anymore and potentially moving abroad - want to make the best financial decision with my lifetime ISA.

Background
My partner and I have been saving into a lifetime ISA for the last few years to purchase a house. At the end of 2022 we decided it was a good time to go ahead with a house purchase. We shopped around and found a nice new build in the first phase of a housing development. We were under the assumption it would take 6-8 months to complete due to what we had been told by the developer and the estate agent.
6 months passed, then a year passed and so on, we are still waiting. It turned out there were some legal issues with the developer's laying of the road. I'm unsure of specifics. Anyway, this lead to a great delay. This gave us some time to think, and we have decided we would like to live abroad (for at least 1 year, but with the possibility of it being permanent).
We have around £55k total between our lifetime ISAs for the deposit and the house has an agreed sale price of £275k. This remains unpaid until the developer can sort their legal issues. Right now I am only out £1k for the new build reservation fee, and thankfully not my entire deposit.
In the meantime, the developer has started building the second phase of the development. Another identical property (with less land) is now sale agreed for £295k, £20k more than we have an agreement to buy ours for.
Some other caveats is we have kitted out the house with upgrades as it is a turnkey new build. So if and when the purchase does happen, we will be paying £275k and an additional £12k for upgraded flooring, kitchen etc.
I'm really just looking for some thoughts, experiences and opinions here.
Is it worth buying this house when it is possible for £287k total, and then reselling it immediately for a higher price of £295k (or possible more due to higher quality finishing)? Will the price of the mortgage per month (~£1k) and fees offset any of the profit I could potentially make if the sale takes some time?
Or would I be better letting my lifetime ISA grow with interest and if I ever come back to the UK use it then?

2024.05.21 14:01 St4ffordGambit_ Nissan GTR - Buying Advice (Budget £55K)

Hi All,
Please let me know if there's a better sub for this. The generic GTR sub seems very US focused.
Current budget is £55-£60K range, and would be a cash purchase.
With this, I am looking at the tail end of the generation ending in 2016.
First Q is, is it worth it to hold out and save for another year and come back when the budget is closer to £75K to purchase the 2017 generation car? Is it that much of a difference in upgrade?
Second Q is, my motivation will be for straight line speed, particularly 1/4 mile times. I visit the drag strip most months. Current car runs mid 11s. The new car would ideally be a big upgrade. Would that influence Q1, or are both generations tunable to get into the 10s?
Stage 4.25 times I am seeing online seem very underwhelming (11.2 etc?) but many variables including bad car, bad driver, bad track, etc. Would also be looking for any insight re Litchfield 4.25 (which I've heard of and looked into) vs Auto Torque 4.25 (which I haven't heard of, but is on an advert for a GTR in my price range on auto trader).
I'd really be looking for a car to do 10.8 or better.
Is that doable with £60K whilst still being somewhat new (2014 plate at a minimum).
This would be a daily driver, but I only do 5K miles per year. Ideally need it to be fully road legal, such that it'd pass an MOT without me needing to find a friendly tester.

2024.05.21 13:49 The_Naked_Buddhist A Deep Dive into the political beliefs of Aon Tu, as presented via their Twitter accounts. Presented without comment.

Lately, both in person and on this sub, I have seen a worrying amount of misinformation spreading about the political party Aon Tu. This misinformation either states that they are a left/liberal party or that they are not right/conservative. This is however clearly wrong as any amount of inspection of their statements and social media makes clear; any clear dive into their policies and statements make it clear that they are instead very right wing, if not far right. They use the many familiar terms associated with similar parties, hold the same stances, and even retweet them and their content.
In order to illustrate this below I am presenting the various tweets made by Peadar Tóibín (the current leader of the party, their founder, and currently sole elected official) as well as their official twitter account. I have limited it solely to tweets due to time and space constraints, I have also had to limit the amount of tweets due to the same constraints There is more and I strongly encourage anyway to check their accounts for themselves. If there is interest I can do a deep dive into their other socials and statements, however I do not think there is a way to access the backlog of debates they have had on RTE and radio unfortunately. I believe this thread will stand on it's own however and other such threads won't be needed.
I will present the below tweets without comment, sorting them only into sections for ease of reading. Some may contain a note below in order to give more context as to what the tweet is referencing. The one section I did not include was the various tweets on the referendum, this is because due to recency I did not think it was needed.

2024.05.21 13:44 anonme1995 [MA] discrimination?

I am currently halfway through my pregnancy and I can tell how differently I am being treated. I need to know how to handle this. I am a lead service agent for a chain of auto dealers and have been for the last 6 years.
  1. When I told my direct boss I was pregnant, he started to ask me questions on returning to work. This is all normal and part of management process, i understand. But what didn't feel write was him asking me about childcare since he knows my parents are dead (verbatim). My husband also works for the company, he is a foreman and on his 10th year. He asked about my husbands parents and I said they didn't live in the state but there's various options for childcare and my plan is to return after my 20 weeks paid. He looked shocked when I said 20 weeks and he said I can only be out for 12. I told him no and that I already spoke with my OB and HR and you can get up to 26 weeks but I am pre approved for 20 (6-8 for medical leave, 12 for bonding) (Massachusetts has PFMLA, which can be a max amount of up to 26 weeks of paid, job protected leave). His face turned a little red when I said that. The conversation left a sour taste in my mouth.
  2. Since December of last year, I have been working to get a promotion for the same department but as the BDM, Since our last BDM left, its just been me kind of overseeing the department. Numbers have exceeded all goals so far and it's been shown during meetings that our GP is increasing in the service facilities. I have never been told I am not going a great job. Back in March, I was told in April we would since down and talk a new job description, expectations and pay plan. That didn't happen. But the company on other departments weren't doing too great so I figured it wasn't as important in the moment. I finally started pressing them end of April. And last week we had our meeting we we're supposed to have back in April. I was given the job description, expectations and the pay plan. I only signed the job description but they had me keep the pay plan document. I asked when this pay plan would start (the pay plan includes a possible $15k-$20k increase per year). They told me it would start until August 1st, so my first commission check would be September 15th...
My due date is October 7th and I may even be on leave starting in September god forbid any health concerns come up. So far I am having a very healthy pregnancy. I wasn't even sick at all during my 1st trimester and haven't used any sick days this year so far.
I am just overly confused on what the hell is going on... Are they not trying to pay me while I am still here and wait to see if I come back to pay me?? I have been doing everything a BDM would do on my lead pay. I guess its partially my fault for taking on so much responsibility without pay, I just figured I would show them what I can do for a couple of months and then lay out all the improved numbers.
HR makes me nervous. Especially with something like this, I don't want to be labeled a "cry baby" or hard to work with because I want to bring this to someone's attention. I pride myself on hard work and not complaining along the way. Shit happens. But my husband wants me to go to HR immediately because there has been multiple men in the last year who have had promotions (including him) and they never made these employees wait for enact their pay plans. It always started the 1st of the next month from when they signed. He see's the difference in treatment but I know he's biased because we're married.
Pregnant or not, I would still be emotional over this.
Any suggestions here? Advice?

2024.05.21 13:42 EmbarrassedCollar475 Anyone get filler that WON’T dissolve?

Hiya! Seeking help for anyone who’s had lumpy migrated filler dissolved before.
Here’s the situation:
I got HA filler in marionette lines in December 2023. This was the first time getting it in that area. I had to go in twice to get it dissolved with Hyaluronidase in December 2023 and again in Jan 2024 because they seemed overfilled. I had been using this injector for a couple years (filler, Botox, you name it) and never had a problem with her work before.
I wasn’t sure what was happening to MY FACE (I never had problem with filler before with this injector) but since then it migrated and got lumpy. My lower mouth looked super heavy and I looked olddddd. I figured I just got old looking.
I looked at my old medical records and the injector basically lied on the notes saying she had to dissolve filler that I “got somewhere else” and I couldn’t find the actual name of the filler she used (it wasn’t Sculptra) because she omitted the fact that I got filler there (but forgot to take out the marked photo of the cartoon face that she had put something in the marionette lines area).
Fast forward ~1 year and 4 months later: I went to a new injector last month and hadn’t had any work done since - I needed Botox for my 11s. When I was there, I asked her if what I was seeing was filler that migrated or new fat pockets/aging (I believe those are called perioral mounds). She said it was filler that migrated, and injected with dissolver again (and used numbing cream, the other lady didn’t use numbing cream because she only put a little bit). Oof that burned! It got a lot better looking after that, the migrated parts had disappeared, but I still had two lumps under corners of my mouth (not in the right area).
Two weeks later (last Thursday), I went back for Botox touch up and got the filler dissolved a bit more.
Yesterday, I iced the area per their recommended to see if it was just swelling I was seeing. After icing for ~20 minutes, I came to the conclusion (which may or may not be correct) that those lumps weren’t fat pockets. I think it’s still filler because in the area where I iced (mouth to chin area) the “normal” tissue responded to ice normally (constricted) and the two lumps became much more noticeable (assuming because the tissue around it got smaller and the lumps were not affected by ice).
Today, I still see the lumps!
WTF is going on?! It’s been now almost a YEAR AND A HALF since I had that filler injected and had it dissolved FOUR TIMES ALREADY. From what I read, the effects of dissolving it happen rather quickly, with some results showing immediately, and sometimes it takes a few days for swelling to go down.
I assume both injectors injected a conservative amount of Hyaluronidase because (as I understand it) if you put too much for the amount of filler you have, it will eat away at healthy tissue.
But damn every time I go to dissolve it it’s $350!
Has anyone had this situation happen before? Or any type of filler dissolver stories? WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY FACE!?
Welp. I’m going to make another follow up for next week (2 weeks after last appointment, yes I got more Botox) and call them to see what they say.
Of course this lumpy migrated filler that ages me 10+ years is the one that sticks around forever and not my beautiful lip fillers 😂😭!
Any advice? Thoughts?

  1. amount of lectures and it's time vs outcome : takes 2 hrs per lecture , 20 for mapping , 37 for physical geography , 32 for Indian geography( are you kidding me) , 10 for resources , 42 lectures for environment. now this sums upto how much? almost 140 lectures of 2 hours or 5 mths per day lecture .
  2. after spending 5 months of your time you realise he mainly caters to those aspirants who are mainly Hindi speaking , are aiming for upsc 2 or 3 years later are at college.
For instance at start of environment he said don't read any book exam pattern has changed it is more current based. Literally 42 lectures later I can prove it , he almost made videos out of Shankar ias + he makes us remember protected area networks ( Bhai Kasam se 1 question aata h yaha se aur ispr meiney 30 hrs dia )
He didn't teach species , he didn't teach current , he said go to my YouTube for it.
Faltu bakwas krke book ko easy banakr sikha doge lekin question nhi banengay waha se I confirm
Baat ye h ki Bhai physical aur Indian if you do from any book and see pyqs , you will be able to solve , it is easy. But not the same for environment. And Bhai itna time Dena h kya is what you should think over.
Totally refrain doing sidhart arora , hima bindu s&t ( literally she called autism as mental re*ardation and claims herself as PhD biology).
We are very gullible , prone to manipulation and these faculties a bunch of them are very expert at manipulation , coz if 18 lakh people appear in this exam and 600 crack it , these don't survive teaching 600 , these target remaining population as it would be more profitable to cater evryone, taking everyone means being slow at pace , less information, less serious, more bakchodi. Choose wisely.

2024.05.21 13:23 enthuvaade Has anyone successfully claimed a 3rdparty insurance claim ?

TLDR; Random taxi driver rammed into car causing 20% of car cost in damages. Have to resort to first party claim as everyone is suggesting 3rdparty is tedious and might not even pay the full amount.
Full story: So my brother has parked his car in a parking lane on a main road. One cab driver seems to have (maybe drunk) smashed into it and then smashed into the rear side trying to reverse away from the situation (the second crash is why I feel he was drunk).
Now the scenario is car is a Hyundai santro 2018. Repair costs as per Hyundai are coming near 1 lakh which is 20% of the cars purchase cost.
Cab driver is ready to file FIR and start claim with 3rdparty insurance, but all service centers even FNG ones are suggesting to take the loss and claim first party insurance as 3rd party insurance takes 6-8 months and involves you to go to court multiple times and there are chances the insurance won't pay if the driver was detected drunk, then the cost falls on the driver. Now the driver is poor and can't afford 1 lakh payment and considering he didn't run away and agreed for FIR, it looks like a genuine mistake from him and he says he wasn't drunk.
We had to finally resort to first party insurance and take the NCB hit and probably a premium increase in next renewal.
Wanted to check with this group if anyone has successfully claimed 3rdparty insurance

2024.05.21 13:10 Hannahlane2005 Rent or Board

Hello. I am on jobseeker youth allowance (19yo) and I am currently living at a friends house (just temporarily for the month). I am moving back in with my father in 2 weeks and he is refusing to sign a rent certificate for me so I can get rent assistance on top of my usual Centrelink payment. He thinks that it is boarding but it is really renting.
He is charging me a reasonable (but still quite high) price atm but he is NOT proving me food, medication, things a parent would buy…
So the “board” that I am going to be paying him is only providing me accommodation, electricity and gas. So that would be classified as RENTING! Board includes food and medication and basic living necessities.
If I get him to sign a rent certificate for my rent assistance, he is going to be charging me 4x the amount of board/rent he is originally making me pay. Which would be half of my Centrelink income. Which means I can’t afford to pay his BOARD price WITHOUT rent assistance, and I can’t afford to pay his RENT price WITH rent assistance.
Can someone please offer some advice or some Centrelink knowledge or some legal rent/board knowledge towards this situation for me.
Any questions (on topic) are encouraged.
