2024.05.21 18:28 BleepBlimpBop $RILY DD: Long List of Short Seller Claims --- DEBUNKED with proof!

Ever-shifting Short Seller Claims

The short sellers attacking RILY in 2023-2024 have been relentless, with an ever-shifting list of wild accusations.
It's sickening to watch them compile a never-ending list of baseless wild theories and claims to support their short positions, which are demonstrably false. But as each is proved false, they pivot to new claims, and/or change the goalposts.
The sheer volume of shifting claims makes it hard to track how despotic they are with their "platform," and how many falsehoods they've spun. Even for someone who watched it in real-time, for almost a year

Compiled & Debunked

Sunlight kills vampires. To that end, I've compiled a list of (i) claimants (ii) claims (iii) reality (iv) definitive source proving reality.

Why Did They Target RILY?

One of the most vocal short sellers, Nate Koppikar (who also introduced Marc Cohodes to the "opportunity") has a fund Orso Partners. Based on their SEC registration document, this is their investment thesis:
"The Account’s investment objectives are to achieve capital appreciation primarily by identifying and selling short marketable equity securities of underfollowed and complex companies with misleading or corrective disclosures through a research-intensive process. The Account employs a short-biased investment strategy with an emphasis on primarily small to mid-cap companies that are underfollowed and complex (i.e., companies with market capitalizations of less than $5 billion which the market does not yet have a wellformed bull and/or bear perspective)."
RILY fits their description. The icing on the cake was the relatively large market cap, and the relatively small float. Given extremely high insider ownership (32.9% of shares per the proxy), and limitations on when and how insiders can trade, the "free float" of the stock (i.e., the shares that regularly trade) is very small for the size of the company. Moreover, the setup would only get better - given insiders have consistently used their free cash to buy additional shares hand-over-fist (further reducing the float).
That meant, with relatively small amounts of capital, the short sellers could shove around the stock price. That ability to move price opens another profit avenue - taking large derivative positions (buying puts, and selling calls), and shoving the price (or allowing it to drift up) to profit all along the way. It looked so good, the stock has been the highest-shorted on the US indices for several months. Even after the release of the 10-K, shares remain "hard to borrow" with elevated borrow fees.

Debunked Claims

The claims made by vocal short sellers could fill a book. Most were outrageous and fanciful when they were proposed. Virtually all have objectively debunked. This isn't a comprehensive list, as their claims are too numerous and varied. But it paints an illuminating picture.
With a track record this poor, one would expect the short sellers to exit - rather than continuing to spin new narratives. Perhaps the continued attacks are their exit strategy to avoid bankruptcy... Well, #Bullish.
With the highest short interest of all US stocks (albeit likely decreased from the highs of ~76% of the float), I think this is more than ripe for a return to fair value - or well above, if a short squeeze occurs.
Note that the list below deliberately excludes three types of posts/claims from the short sellers:
A) Juvenile personal attacks and attempts to character assassinate and dox a long list of people (RILY CEO, RILY new hires, RILY clients, Marcum the auditor, Marcum's lead audit professional, any firm or individual publicly posting a bull thesis on RILY, etc.).
B) Those that make no objective claims, but simply exist as a product of malicious degeneracy (like pictures of roasted pigs in ovens labeled Bryant Riley the CEO, photoshopped pictures of the CEO in prison chains next to convicted felons, video of an obese woman barely able to walk being gored by a bull labeled Mrs. Riley the CEO's wife, etc.).
C) Those that are impossible for short sellers to know, and impossible to objectively verify (e.g., Marc Cohodes claiming a single RILY trader front runs the CEOs personal short trades in front of clients taking following the firm's bullish advice on those stocks, to guarantee profits).
Claimant Claim Reality
1) Wolfpack Wolfpack “RILY will record investment losses of up to ~$700 million in 2023” FALSE 10-K FALSE
2) Wolfpack “new loan to CORZQ will work out just as badly as the last and end in default (again) before June 2023” FALSE Repaid in full, early, on 1/6/2024.
3) Wolfpack “The coupon rate on RILY’s seven issues of baby bonds ranges from 5% to 6.75%, which we believe to be far too low to compensate investors for the existential risk that accompanies these securities.” FALSE Full redemption of May 2024 came early. Far more than sufficient cash to cover debt payments.
4) Wolfpack “According to our analysis, 4 of RILY’s largest 7 corporate borrowers with outstanding loan balances of $295.3 million are at a high risk of default, or in the case of CORZQ, is already in default.” FALSE a. Core Scientific Inc. repaid early and in full ($111MM of the “risk”) b. Exela Technologies repaid term loan in full ($55.8MM of the “risk”) c. Arena Group Holdings debt retired in full ($99MM of the “risk”). Publicly disclosed in the most recent 10-K for each company (search for "Riley" in the filing)
5) Wolfpack “RILY’s NAV is Far Below the $1.1 Billion Minimum NAV Requirement That Is Required for the Nomura Credit Agreement Putting RILY at Risk of Collapse in 2023” FALSE RILY is in full compliance with the Nomura credit agreement. Moreover, reflecting the strength of the relationship, Nomura even granted a no-fee extension when the 10-K filing was delayed. Also see 10-K for current status.
6) Wolfpack “Over $200 Million of the Goodwill and Intangible Assets on RILY’s Balance Sheet is Attributable to its Telecom Rollup, which is Centered on Dial-up and DSL Internet:” - criticizing them as dying businesses with no value FALSE Segment is extremely valuable. From just 2020 to 2023, the communications segment has returned over $212.2MM in adjusted EBITDA.
7) Nate Koppikar (TheFriendlyBear) + Bill Abbate Jr. (JrAbbate), Various RILY committed fraud with loans and closing the FRG acquisition. "The fact $RILY closed the FRG deal while hiding the Kahn loan - an all PIK defaulted loan backed by $FRG shares - is a Hall of Fame worthy act of fraud. I thought after Enron/Sarbox we couldn't have something like this happen in US markets." FALSE A law firm led an internal investigation, and an independent external investigation both found “The review confirmed what the Company previously disclosed: that the Company and its executives, including Bryant Riley, had no involvement with, or knowledge of, any of the alleged misconduct concerning Prophecy.” “The results of the independent investigation confirmed that the Company and its executives had no involvement with, or knowledge of, any of the alleged misconduct concerning Mr. Kahn or any of his affiliates. This independent investigation was conducted subsequent to the Company's February 22, 2024 disclosure of the internal review performed with the assistance of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP as outside counsel.” Also see 10-K
8) Marc Cohodes (AlderlaneEggs), ParrotCapital, Bill Abbate Jr. (JrAbbate), Various The 10-K will never be filed. They can't produce audited financials. FALSE Audited 10-K was filed. Delay was due to Audit committee fulfilling its responsibilities and proactively conducting investigations (internal and external).
9) Marc Cohodes (AlderLaneEggs) + Nate Koppikar (TheFriendlyBear) + Bill Abbate Jr. (JrAbbate) + ParrotCapital Sullivan and Cromwell knew about Massive Fraud, and did a "sham investigation" FALSE Sullivan and Cromwell is one of the most respected law firms, in the US and worldwide. "Sullivan & Cromwell continues to lead all law firm advisers in announced and completed global deals in 2023, according to Bloomberg and LSEG. The Firm advised on global announced deals totaling more than $345 billion, representing a 12.1 percent market share, per Bloomberg, and on completed global deals totaling more than $431 billion, representing a 16.9 percent market share, per LSEG." They're not compromising themselves for a relatively small client.
10) Marc Cohodes (AlderLaneEggs), Nate Koppikar (TheFriendlyBear), Bill Abbate Jr. (JrAbbate), Parrot Capital Marcum is enabling Massive Fraud FALSE Marcum is a respected audit firm, and 13th largest by revenue. "Marcum LLP advanced into the Top 15 in the 2023 Vault Accounting list of top-ranked accounting firms. Marcum climbed six levels to the No. 13 ranking overall and earned a ranking of 14 in prestige. The Firm also won Top 20 rankings across all Practice Area, Quality of Life, and Diversity categories, including several new classifications added this year."
11) Marc Cohodes (AlderLaneEggs) Nomura is enabling Massive Fraud FALSE Nomura is a global financial services company, and the oldest brokerage firm in Japan. They operate in a highly regulated industry. They're not putting themselves on the line for a relatively small client.
12) Parrot Capital "The list of $RILY enablers is massive: Marcum LLP, Sullivan and Cromwell, Seeking Alpha, Holbrook Holdings, $AX Axos Bank, Many, many more." FALSE There's no global conspiracy whereby these companies - all respected law firms, auditors, banks, and media outlets - are collectively colluding to enable RILY to commit fraud. Requires only two brain cells and one functioning synapse to know there's no grand collusion cabal between these disparate companies.
13) Marc Cohodes (AlderLaneEggs), Jonathan Weil at WSJ Franchise Group shares used to secure Kahn loan: "It is unclear whether Kahn pledged the same shares twice—to both Prophecy and B. Riley." FALSE As stated by the company, Simple UCC search disproves this. UCC # 202302295747
14) Marc Cohodes (AlderLaneEggs) “Bryant Riley is on the Road, telling people the ‘audit partner at Marcum left’ and that ‘I have made mistakes’ “ FALSE Marcum audit partner was working on the audit the whole time; the original audit partner had hit the 5yr SEC rule, so he was never working on this year’s audit.
15) Marc Cohodes (AlderLaneEggs) "So it turns out James La Rocca was Fired by MarcumLLP If nothing was wrong with prior $RILY Audits, why is he gone? This will be great in discovery of what exactly went on. FALSE Marcum audit partner was working on the audit the whole time; the original audit partner had hit the 5yr SEC rule, so he was never working on this year’s audit.
16) Koppikar (TheFriendlyBear) “So Bryant Riley did disseminate MNPI back in March” in response to Cohodes claim that he told people the Marcum partner left FALSE Cohodes claimed Bryant Riley was telling people the Marcum auditor left. Koppikar called that disseminating MNPI. Cohodes statement was false (and thus Koppikar's derivate claim is also false). A different auditor worked on RILY, as Marcum follows the SEC rules; the lead auditor can only serve the client for 5 consecutive years. As such, Koppikar’s derivative claim of disseminating MNPI is false.
17) Koppikar (TheFriendlyBear) “He appears to still not be familiar with the voting interest model of consolidation… why is a life science and tech partner signing an extremely complex investment company / broker dealer audit ???” i.e., auditor is unqualified FALSE The auditor is fully qualified. Marcum is a highly respected auditor; they don't hire unqualified people, or assign them to clients they're unqualified to audit. RILY is continuing to use Marcum as the 2024 auditor.
18) Marc Cohodes (AlderLaneEggs) "Now that the $RILY dividend is going away, this omission is serious stuff" FALSE The dividend did not go away. It was reduced from $1.00/share to $0.50/share, to allow them to opportunistically allocate capital. 23Q4 and 24Q1
No source images included for the claims, as this sub disallows images in posts and comments. Images can be seen on a version of this posted to a sub that discusses RILY. All claims can be sourced on the various social media venues and websites utilized by the short sellers. 2024.05.21 17:21 Icy-Sport-2694 AQA English Language P2Q4 answer (using a non-GCSE text)... Could you mark?

Hello all, I am a year 10 student. I am wondering if it would be possible to mark an answer that i did in the style of a paper 1 question 4. My teacher has read it however refuses to tell me the amount of marks I would get (out of 16) as it is unfair and she, and i quote, "isn't aloud".
The sources were about the death penalty/capital punishment.
Question:
Compare how the writers convey their different attitudes to the death penalty. In your answer, you should:
  • compare their different attitudes.
  • compare the methods they use to convey their attitudes
Support your ideas with quotations from both texts.
In Source A, the writer believes the death penalty is a vile and dehumanising form of punishment. The writer uses metaphors to describe the hanging posts as a "machinery of death". This suggests the huge mass of executions are inhumane and desensitising. This implies the hanging posts are being used to satisfy and prioritise the law by ending a human life in this way. The noun "machinery" highlights the systematic approach to the death penalty and, as brutal as it is, it is normalised in society. Whereas, in source B, the writer is in favour of capital punishment. The writer uses a range of statistics to reinforce that there is a "20 percent reduction" of sickening crimes, especially those against children. This strongly expresses that the writer, and the American public, believe that capital punishment is the only correct, logical and acceptable form of punishment. The reference of "child murder cases'' is particularly emotive and touching for the reader because they are small, helpless and innocent. This makes the reader recognise these victims as the most vulnerable and therefore needs to be protected by all. This highlights that the criminals deserve to feel the pain and suffering of their victims and have their life ended as a form of justice.
In Source A, the writer believes the death penalty is an uncomfortable, yet exhilarating, sight. The writer transitions to a first-person perspective when he informs us about his experience halfway through the extract. The writer does this deliberately to allow the reader to form their own opinion before sharing his own opinion. This opinion is established to be negative as he "confess(es) to a shudder". The verb 'shudder' suggests the horrorful experience he is having which expresses his discomfort. This highlights that the death penalty is traumatic amongst members of the public; especially when the execution occurs in public. Overall, the writer's purpose for writing this article is to inform others on how inhumane the death penalty can be. Therefore the writer’s attitude of the death penalty is negative and unsupportive of this law which is different to source B where the writer is in support of capital punishment. The writer uses a circular structure to link his opinion of the death penalty to the murder case of Ringo. By presenting Ringo’s crime at the beginning (and providing evidence of “reduced murder rates” in the middle) he is persuading the reader to believe that the death penalty is “morally just”.
If you have the time to mark it, that would be great. Also if you can, could you also say what I have done well and what I can improve on?

2024.05.21 16:45 _Luminous_Dark What are the best Cornerstones?

The Vanilla Factions Expanded - Tribals mod allows you to advance from one technology level to the next by researching every single technology of the current level, and rewards you with a Cornerstone for doing so. This isn't my first Tribals run, but I had to start over and am about halfway through Neolithic, but haven't used my first cornerstone yet, because I'm not sure which one is the best option, and wonder what other people use. Here are some of my finalists: +5% Global Work Speed +.15 Movement Speed +10% Learning Speed -5% Mental Break Threshold +10% Immunity Gain Rate (Might be enough to make almost all diseases trivial, since when someone dies from a disease or infection, the immunity gap is almost always just a couple percent) +10% Psychic Sensitivity (I have 6 psycasters, since tribals can link to the anima tree)
There are another two that increase rest while sleeping and decrease rest fall rate while awake that might work well together.

2024.05.21 15:27 upbstock 2% inflation?

Fed Governor Waller says progress toward 2% inflation 'likely resumed'
In a speech at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, Fed Board of Governors member and a 2024 FOMC voting member Christopher Waller stated: "After a run of great data in the latter half of 2023, it seemed that significant progress on inflation would continue and that rate cuts were not far off. However, the first three months of 2024 threw cold water on that outlook, as data on both inflation and economic activity came in much hotter than anticipated. Initially it seemed like the bad data might be simply a "bump" in the road, but as the data continued to point in the wrong direction, the narrative quickly turned towards concerns that the economy was not cooling as needed to keep inflation moving down toward the Federal Open Market Committee's (FOMC) 2 percent goal. Progress on inflation appeared to have stalled and there were fears that it might even be accelerating. Suddenly, the public debate became whether monetary policy was restrictive enough and if rate hikes should be back on the table. But more recent data on the economy indicate that restrictive monetary policy is helping to cool off aggregate demand and the inflation data for April suggests that progress toward 2 percent has likely resumed. Central bankers should never say never, but the data suggests that inflation isn't accelerating, and I believe that further increases in the policy rate are probably unnecessary.

2024.05.21 14:12 priya_dogra Commercial Heat Pump Water Heater Upgrade in Victoria

Commercial Heat Pump Water Heater Upgrade in Victoria
While the governments across the globe seem to be focused on rapid adoption of zero-emission vehicles and solar panels to cut carbon emission, a new climate-tech hero has emerged on the scene — the heat pump.
Though the first heat pump was created in the mid 19th century, the technology found its place in the spotlight only in the early 21st century.
Why are heat pumps tech heroes?
Unlike conventional technologies — which use gas or electricity for space heating/cooling and water heating — a heat pump pulls warmth from surrounding air (even if it is snowing outside), amplifies it, and pumps it inside to warm a space or water inside the water tank.
The heat pumps are powered by electricity, but their energy output — in the form of water heating or space heating/cooling — is 3-5 times greater than the energy consumed.
Since, we are currently offering upgrades under Victoria government commercial hot water rebates program, the rest sections of this blog will be focused on the commercial heat pump powered hot water systems and rebate application process.
Commercial Heat pumps offered under Victoria government programs
The Victoria government has set an ambitious target of 45-50 percent emission reduction — to 2005 emission levels — and net-zero emissions by 2050.
To achieve this target, reducing emissions in the electricity sector — which accounted for 51.8% of Victoria's total net emissions in 2021 — becomes all important.
About a quarter of the total electricity produced is consumed by commercial buildings in Australia, and appliances like water heaters, air conditioners and freezers are responsible for the highest energy use.
Energy-efficient appliances can reduce the energy consumption and decarbonise commercial buildings by a large margin.
The reduction achieved by achieving higher energy efficiency will in turn result in more energy and money savings for businesses and reduce their carbon footprints.
If you run a business in Victoria state, achieving energy efficiency in your office/workplace building has never been so doable and budget friendly.
The Victorian government —under the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program — is offering free replacement of your commercial electric boilers/water heaters with air-sourced heat pump powered commercial water heaters. The rebates are also on offer for replacement of gas-fired water heaters with heat pump units.
The 3 to 5X energy efficiency achieved by heat pumps offer a great advantage for businesses who are looking to reduce their operating cost and carbon footprints.
However, to achieve this, there are the following variables you need to factor in to achieve the maximum quantum of reduction in energy demand at your business:

  • COP (Coefficient Of Performance) of heat pump unit.
  • Quality of installation.
  • Size of heat pump system
  • Energy star rating
  • Compressor efficiency
  • Type of compressor
  • Insulation of pipes and water tank
  • Warranty
Application of heat pump technology in Industrial & Commercial sector
Heat pump technology is used in a range of industrial and commercial applications, such as:
  • Product heating and cooling in agro-based industries.
  • Space heating and cooling in agriculture and industries
  • Water heating and steam generation in industrial applications
  • Pool water heating and cooling in swimming pools
  • Air heating in agribusinesses and industries
  • Drying, cooling, boiling, distillation, and blanching in food & beverages industries.
  • Drying, melting and preheating in food processing applications
Upsides of commercial heat pump water heater
Employing Heat pumps in commercial and industrial applications offers the following advantages:
High energy-efficiency
Commercial heat pumps offer 3–5 times COP (Coefficient of Performance) than their gas or resistance counterparts. This makes them suitable for reducing energy demand and energy bills of the various commercial and industrial processes.
Low operating cost
The cost of running heat pumps is always lower than gas-fired or electric boilers. Here is a comparison of the operating cost of various commercial heating technologies
Comparing the operating cost of various commercial heating technologies.
As we can see in this chart, a commercial air-source heat pump can deliver 1 GJ (gigajoules) of heat (when electricity is charged u/120/MWh) for $12.92. The resistive water heater delivers the same heat for $33.33 and gas-fired steam boilers deliver the same amount of heat for $30.60 (when electricity is priced @ $24/GJ) and for $15.65 (when electricity is priced @ $12/GJ).
Low maintenance cost
Rightly sized and installed heat pumps need less maintenance than their electric and gas counterparts. Maintenance is only required if the manufacturer has recommended replacing air filters and cleaning evaporator and condenser coils after a certain period of time. One can find the coils and filters replacement schedule in the product document supplied with the heat pump system.
Lower emissions
Due to higher energy-efficiency, heat pumps produce lower emissions even if the electricity grid is powered by the coal-fired power plants. As the Australian electricity grid is getting decarbonised every year and its emission factor (amount of CO2 per MWh of generated power) is expected to reduce to less than 0.3–0.45 t CO2/MWh by 2030, replacing resistive and gas-fired boilers/water heaters with heat pumps will deliver a substantial reduction in businesses and industrials sites.
Pairing with solar panels
Powering heat pumps with solar panels can further reduce operating cost of heat pumps and achieve the holy grail of climate conscious businesses — net-zero emissions.
Integrating with thermal storage systems
Integrating heat pumps with thermal storage units (such as insulated water tanks) offers several advantages, such as:
  • Reduced heat loss from the stored water.
  • More efficiency
  • More savings: thermal storage systems can be programmed to store thermal energy during off-peak hours and utilize it during peak hours. It saves money and reduces dependence on the electricity grid.
Safety benefits
Heat pumps reduce fire hazards in commercial and industrial processes as they are fully electric and handling of combustible fuels/gasses (as in the case of gas-fired boilers) is not required.
Downsides of heat pump water heaters
Despite the above advantages that heat pump hot water systems offer, they are associated with the following drawbacks:
Limited efficiency in colder climate
As the heat pump systems are primed for sourcing warmth of outdoor or ambient air and transferring it to the sink (which may be a water tank or a space inside a building), the efficiency of heat pumps drops significantly when the outdoor air temperature falls below zero degree celsius.
The sub-zero temperature conditions (during the winter months of June, July, and August) in Victoria state are not a concern, as the average temperatures range from 6.5 C to 14.2 C during these months.
Limited output temperature
Most commercial heat pump water heating units can achieve maximum output temperature in the 60 to 80 degree celsius range. Some heat pumps use auxiliary resistive heating (called booster) to increase the max output temperature range, but it makes them less efficient.
Cost
Heat pump technology based commercial water heaters are more expensive — than gas and electric — upfront. Businesses in Victoria can utilize the government rebates/incentives to reduce the upfront cost.
Refrigerant consideration in commercial heat pumps
Refrigerant’s global warming potential (GWP) and toxicity level are two key considerations that one needs to consider while choosing earth-friendly and safe commercial water heating systems. GWP is the heat trapping potential (relative to carbon dioxide) of a substance.
A heat pump with carbon dioxide refrigerant has a GWP of 1. All natural refrigerants like CO2 (R744), propane (R290) and ammonia (R717) have low global warming potential.
Among these natural refrigerants, carbon dioxide has a low toxicity level and ammonia — which is a flammable and corrosive gas — has a high toxicity level.
Let us walk you through the upgrade process.
Defrosting heat pump
During normal operating conditions, air source heat pumps sources the warmth from ambient outdoor air and transfers it to a heat sink such as indoor space or water storage unit.
However, in cold winter days when outdoor air temperature dips below freezing (0 °C) and wind speed is below 16 km/h, moisture in the air condenses into ice crystals, frost starts forming on the fins of evaporator coils of the heat pump.
When the air temperature continues falling several notches below the zero degree Celsius, a thick layer of frost can form on the fins. At this stage, removing the frost is the only way to resume the heat transfer from outdoor air to a water tank or an indoor space.
Commercial heat pump water heaters automatically defrost the evaporator fins by reversing the refrigeration flow. It is achieved by a four-way reversing valve (a solenoid coil operated valve) and heat pump sensors monitoring the air temperature and accumulation of frost on fins of evaporator coils.
The reversing valve directs the passage of hot refrigerant from the compressor to the evaporator coils to melt the build-up of frost and ice.
Some commercial air source heat pump water heating systems also have an auxiliary water tank to prevent heat loss in the main water tank during the defrost cycle.
Most commercial heat pump water heaters employ a hot gas defrost method to defrost the evaporator coils.

CPU - Following the graphics card, the processor stands as the second most pivotal element in your gaming laptop. Although the GPU generally bears the brunt of gaming demands, the CPU significantly influences overall system performance and holds the potential to bottleneck the GPU's capabilities. Gaming laptops housing more robust GPUs are often accompanied by 8-core processors. In the mid-range spectrum spanning $400 to $800, you'll typically find quad-core CPUs. While dual-core CPUs can handle gaming, they aren't optimal since sustaining boosted clock speeds might not always be achievable.

RAM is generally the most straightforward laptop component to upgrade. So, if you're working with a tight budget, you have the option to choose a laptop with lower RAM and later upgrade it yourself. Overspending on RAM is unnecessary; 16 GB is sufficient for gaming. However, considering 32 GB can provide future-proofing for your laptop.
Storage-wise, if your budget permits, it's advisable to select a laptop equipped with an SSD for storage. An SSD can significantly enhance a laptop's speed, particularly when compared to an HDD. This translates to reduced boot times and quicker load times, resulting in noticeably improved performance.

2024.05.21 11:19 GuidanceDue9602 First time canceling class after it started

For the first time i reported a student and hid from the. Nothing horrible happened just saw right away it wasn’t going to work. I did it within the first two minutes. I believe this doesn’t affect me but I am not sure I did this correctly. Im newish, just under 10000 minutes. Still have the 5. And 100 percent positive. Will this affect my rating much? thanks in advance for any answers.

2024.05.21 09:08 poopyscoopy24 Usual new fish addition death rate

Hello all. I’m a reasonably experienced reefer. I had an 80 gallon mixed reef tank going for 5 years with some major nutrient export issues (chronically high po4,no3) but all was more or less well. 3 months back I decided to go all in and bought a reefer max g2+ 625. Reused probably 50 percent of the water, doubled my rock and used all new live sand and a few bottles of bacteria. Let the tank “cycle” for a week and moved all my old frags and fish over. Never actually got any perceptible cycle. Got a small diatom bloom but that’s all. . 0 ammonia 0 no2 , 5 no3. All my existing coral was doing well so I dumped a pretty big chunk of change on a ton of new frags to fill out the new tank. Let the new setup “rest” for another few weeks and everything did and continues to do amazingly well. However I am having a puzzling situation with fish deaths. I’ve added probably 20 fish over the course of a month or so. Nothing crazy or expert level. I have lost like 7 fish now. They all seem well and then I’ll wake up in the morning or come home from work and find a body. Six line wrasse, flame angel, a cardinal, hippo tang, gramma, and a few others I’m forgetting (sorry, post night shift er doc and deliriously tired). But some of these are high dollar fish and I’m becoming really discouraged. Am I adding fish too fast?? Is a 25-30 percent death rate par for the course for some people??? I’ve had fish deaths within days of adding in the past but this seems ridiculously excessive. I’ve got plenty of other fish in there that are happy as can be with no signs of illness. Wtf gives???
NH3 0 NO3 5 NO2 0 P04 0.08 Ph 8.2 SG 1.025

Just did a full panel with my Hanna marine master so I know it’s not my parameters. Thanks for the help. I am sad I keep killing fish.

2024.05.21 08:01 mytendies The Debt Cycle Dichotomy

The following presents the economic, fiscal, monetary choice we face.
TL;DR - bullish interest rate sensitive stocks QE is coming soon.
We can have a recession and the cycle can end OR they intervene with fiscal and monetary programs at the first signs of danger.
We can get inflation back below 2 percent through austerity OR the FED can act like we are trying and instead export the cost of the debt.
We can have the political courage and long term thinking to solve the problem OR politicians can focus on winning the next election via stimulus and buying votes.
We can have an honest discussion about jobless claims, wages, cost of living and the well being of US citizens OR they can scrub the data in the headlines and revise it months later so the optics of the economy is positive.
We can have an independent FED focused on price stability and max employment OR we can have a FED politically complicit with the needs of the treasury and debt monetization.
Congress can have a treasury and budget that is responsible, affordable and reduces debt OR we can increase debt borrowing more from our future to pay for today.
We could keep yields down by simply not issuing new debt auctions OR the FED cut rates and starts QE.
We can take the pain and reverse the stimulus over the past 3 years OR we can kick the can down the road and monetize that debt over time via inflation.
We could do the hard thing we should do OR we can do the easy thing like we shouldn’t but always do.
Pay it off OR cash out equity refi at a lower rate?
What do you think they will do this time?
Lower rates are coming. We might see a melt up if FED loosens “too early” and is too accommodating while treasury is still deficit spending.
What should you do?
Long financial assets especially interest rate sensitive stocks.
RKT, SHOP, SOFI, NET, TWLO, PLTR, HOOD, TSLA etc
As an option buyer give your sell more time than you think - 60 day’s minimum. As a seller, sell put credit spreads 30-45 DTE rinse and repeat.
PS. The only way to protect purchasing power is to be invested in financial assets.

2024.05.21 04:32 Human-Risk-5462 Underfunded HOA? OC, CA 22%

Underfunded HOA? OC, CA 22%
Underfunded HOA - OC,CA 22%
Hi guys,
Getting ready to close on a condo when I really looked closely into the HOA docs. My realtor said it was fine but it looks like they don’t have sufficient reserves for the next two years.
For context, the place was built in ‘87. The exterior is fine. A little dated but better than most places we saw. It has everything we want in a place and is in a really great location/neighborhood. HOA is still relatively low. Area still seems to be well maintained.
My question is looking at these finances, is it enough to say no?
We have 166 units. HOA is $350 (we pay $40 for a second HOA)… and in the paperwork it’s talking about taking out a 1.65MM loan to have sufficient reserves. What are pros and cons?
Should I be running away? For context this neighborhood is highly sought after. Something will hit the market and sell for 60k+ over asking price… and there’s not many units selling.

2024.05.21 04:30 2023_CK_ Lead in Gasoline caused the 1960s-2000s Crime Spike + Heart Disease

When gasoline combusts prematurely, it causes "pinging" or engine knock, which can damage a car's engine. Back in the 1920s, General Motors (GM) discovered that adding ethanol to gasoline reduced pinging by raising the fuel's octane level. Adding lead to gasoline also reduced the pinging. The oil and auto industry decided to add lead to gasoline instead of ethanol- even though it was well known that lead is highly toxic and harmful- because ethanol couldn't be patented and the oil/auto industry didn't control corn production.
Rick Nevin, an economist, argues the generations that grew up in the US from the 1940s-1980s was routinely exposed to lead fumes from gas- especially in urban areas- which reduced IQ and caused criminal behavior. In the late 1970s, leaded gas began to be phased out and was finally banned in 1995 in the US and ethanol was used instead to reduce pinging. Nevin believes this is the real reason crime plunged and cities like NYC became so safe in the early 2000s. (Crime is going up now due to the declining economy and deliberately lax-laws which are part of a "controlled demolition"- but that's a whole different conspiracy.)
https://www.motherjones.com/environment/2016/02/lead-exposure-gasoline-crime-increase-children-health/
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5916377/pdf/EHP2636.pdf
The most convincing evidence of this effect is that different countries phased out lead in gas at different times and the same rise-and-fall in crime rates is seen in these countries. Mexico, and Central and South American countries phased out lead much later than the US. Leaded auto gas was still used in North Korea and some African and Middle Eastern countries until the 2010s/2020s.
https://ricknevin.com/central-america-homicide-rates-are-falling-fast/
Lead was phased out of the electronics industry as well in the 2000s but is still widely used in ammo, of course, and in aviation fuel for small planes and helicopters.
Most people think heart disease is due to eating fatty foods and smoking. But there's strong evidence that saturated fat is healthy and heart disease is really due to other factors like heavy metal poisoning, especially lead, and perhaps EMF.

2024.05.21 03:46 DavidM412 Back pay date

“20 percent is increased to 30 percent effective December 3, 2023.”
If I just received my rating on Friday and the effective date is December 3, 2023 would my back pay be for 5 months? ( assuming Jan-May)

2024.05.21 03:46 Christopher_Capital StockCharts dot com Indicators & Features...

Forgive me if I do anything wrong, new to Reddit, first post...
I love TradingView, but getting more serious about Technical Analysis and noticing that there's some key indicators/features that we don't have, and I don't want to have to switch over to StockCharts for them... Please consider getting these following indicators & features for TradingView
Thank you
- RRG Charts
- HeatMaps - Size by % or a RankingSystem Performance (not on StockCharts either, but would be nice)
- Source - ETFs- heatmap all the stocks within various ETFs
- Sector & Industry - heatmap the 11 sectors, click on one to heatmap the Industries within that sector, click on an Industry to heatmap the stocks within that Industry.
- Seasonality Charts - Composite of chosen # of years for an asset, a sectoindustry group/stock, to show seasonal tendency over the months of the year
- All the Dow Jones Sector & Industry Group Indices
- a stock rating/ranking system, based on relative strength & fundamentals, like StockCharts' SCTR, or MarketSurge's RS system
- ETF Screener and/or Heatmap, organized according to the Global Industry Classification Standard GICS, like mentioned above... click on a sector to collapse/open up a list or heatmap of Industry Groups - choose one to go another layer deeper to see the Industries within - choose one to go into the sub-industries or individual stocks within the chosen industry... a heatmap system for all this would be optimal, but even at least an ETF/Stock screener organized in this fashion would be appreciated.
- SectoIndustry Group performance chart like StockCharts, if not heatmaps as described above
- Bullish Percent Index
- NAAIM Exposure and Rydex Bull/Bear
- AAII Bull/Bear

2024.05.21 02:16 Eastern_Wrangler_217 Financing option based on residence location or delivery location

I live in Kansas I am planning to get a modelY. But Kansas isn't a qualifying state for financing so can I get it delivered to Missouri location and still get 1 percent interest rate.

2024.05.21 02:10 idoodooyoohoo 2.5 Weeks Post Seton Placement - Advice Needed

As the title mentions, I'm at roughly 2 and a half weeks post seton placement, and between the pain and the constant run around I've been getting from my CRS, I'm hoping someone can lend me a bit of advice. This is gonna be a bit of a novel, so thanks in advance for reading all of this.
So, I (33m) had surgery to get a draining seton placed back on May 1st. It all started back in early April when I went to the ER for severe rectal pain (this was back on the 12th of April), a CT scan showed a perianal abscess, and I was admitted to the hospital to get it drained by a CRS the next day. After the surgery and a couple days of recovery, I ended up going home. A week later I returned to work as the pain had become manageable with otc pain meds like Tylenol. After a few days of being back at work, I noticed I was having more and more pain, until the morning of April 28th when it became too severe to manage and I went back to the ER. They ran another CT scan and this time saw a small fistula had formed, so they admitted me once again. The CRS came in the next day and said that the CT scan was not the best and that he wasn't sure if there was a fistula or not, so I was to sit in the hospital with an IV of antibiotics for 2 days and then if I wasn't somehow better in those 2 days, they would put me under and root around down there. The day of the surgery arrives, they put me under, do what they gotta do, and I wake up with a seton placed as he did in fact find a fistula. The hospital I stayed at, Piedmont of Augusta, is a miserable excuse for a hospital. It used to be called University Hospital, and it was one of the best hospitals in town, but every since Piedmont took over, I think they have like a 2.3 star rating on google lol Kind of going off topic there, but I say all this to say that there was very little communication between the CRS, the nursing team, and myself and my stay at the hospital was just a miserable time, so despite still being in considerable pain, I decided to dip out as soon as possible, which was 2 days after the surgery. When i was discharged I got absolutely no instructions on any aftercare or anything which I thought was weird. Doc told me to come back in a few weeks for a check up, prescribed me hydrocodone 5s and Augmentin, and I was on my way home.
I have been in constant pain since then, and I've been communicating with my CRS and his staff, I have been denied refills on pain medication, they say I shouldn't be in pain ( when i left the hospital he said I should be good to go back to work in 2 or 3 days...yeah right lol). I go to my appointment, and my CRS wants to do another CT scan before the appointment. I dont have insurance so i have to pay 50 percent of the cost of a scan up front. I've been out of work almost all month, I didn't have the money, so we couldn't do the scan. And because we didn't do the scan, he says there's nothing for me to really look at so idk what to tell you. didn't tell me how the seton looked, didn't tell me any kind of time line for when it would be taken out. all he said was for me to go back to the emergency room so they can get another CT scan. This is all well and good, but like, he didn't like or believe the CT from the last er visit, and I was in the hospital for 2 days prior to my surgery, so why didn't he order a new CT scan at that time?
My dilemma is idk if they pain I'm feeling is related to the original abscess, the seton surgery, the seton itself, or if there's something else going on. I just bought some health insurance that goes into effect on June 1, but I am in so much pain on a daily basis that idk if I can hold out that long. If I do go back to the ER, I should totally go to a different hospital right? it seems like this guy is just running me in circles and not knowing what is going on with me has been giving me a lot of anxiety. Sorry for the disjointed rambling, I'm just approaching my wits end

2024.05.21 00:57 surfaholic15 MONDAY at the LCS and Random Shit

High 50s/ low 60s, partly cloudy and breezy in Helena MT AND MY SILVER!!
https://imgur.com/a/HpDVR19
Welp, I was hoping for a little dip at shopping time lol. Nope. But I did get a good price on 2 pieces of MINING interest plus a Free Man round! The shop was momentarily empty when i arrived, and the gold case was pretty well cleaned out except for the highest dollar items. The Silver cases had tons of neat things to choose from. Other folks came in to buy things while I shopped. Rounds were 34.00 for generics. I got those two special beauties for 40 each. So a good to great deal. Folks who were buying were NOT asking price, they were buying. While I was shopping lots of sovereign silver was selling, and gold. The ladt of the gold jewelry in the case, some gold nuggets, 1 gram pieces of valcambi, a few small numismatics.
Our guys are temporarily not buying themselves in terms of silver unless you are willing to take 1.00 UNDER spot, what their wholesalers charge. Other than numismatics, those you haggle. They are buying gold at the wholesale rates.
And selling gold by the gram! They have a pile of Valcambi bars, and apparently it is now a thing to want to buy individual grams. Despite a ridiculous premium, dang close to 15 percent by the gram, on an already premium heavy product... YIKES!!
The art silver pile is growing in advance of summer tourism, lots of premium MT copper items, silver items as well. All the locally produced stuff is high cost. There are Montana items made by other mints in the tourist case including rounds from Engelhard and JM. Scottsdale pours, Niue art and other exotic stuff (like a ridiculous Barbie item, and more fenders and surfboards). Folks from California and elsewhere often buy here, no sales tax.
As to MY SILVER: a 1973 free man round, RCN. Iwo Jima on obverse, Trust in The Lord on reverse. A beautiful piece. I know I have a few others, just gotta remember which boating accident they got lost in...
The first year of issue Pegasus Gold Corporation, limited edition. The company and stories behind their mining shenanigans are notorious. In fact, there is still all kinds of crazy here in Montana regarding their mines lol. There are 11 in the series. And the lawsuits surrounding the mines themselves are still going on... info varies on numbers of each round from 10k to 25k. This first in series actually has the simplest reverse, showing a metal pour. Obverse is the same on all excluding the date.
The other beauty is BH-3, number 3 in a series of 5 from Bunker Hill Silver. 1981-1982, and this series has several interesting things. Limited to 30k of each round, they were given as sets to investors, employees and Big customers. They chronicle the growth of the Coeur d'Alene Idaho silver mining/gold mining industry. At one time 20 percent of the country's silver and gold (and base metals) came out of the smelters, refineries and mines in the area. This round commemorates the lead Smelter opening in 1917 in Bradley Idaho.
The rounds were not produced until AFTER Bunker Hill Silver stopped doing business. The designs are all exceptional. BH-3 was the first release in 1982.
So I am a HAPPY CAMPER.
In other random news, regular gas 3.33/diesel is 3.69. Crazy small gap. Mid grade and premium now cost more than diesel. Red dye is less than regular gas... A case of large eggs was 9.15 at Walmart, 12.10 at Costco. But I also scored a pork loin at Costco for 1.29 a pound! Actually bought 2 of the smallest, under 5 pounds each, 5.00 off per package. They were originally 2.29 a pound. Not bad.
At our bakery outlet store a lot of bread was marked down further than typical, and they gave us more free with our purchase (we give the freebies to the food pantry).
Dollar tree has 2 employees. Both women my age. They change the hours they are open with handwritten signs as needed. They had thought they were getting lucky this week, hired a young dude. Young dude apparently quit after getting first paycheck.
Winco is also light on help, and the help is older folks. Walmart is always understaffed anyway. We shall see what happens, but it seems things are slowing down everywhere...
AND WHEN ARE WE GONNA SEE SOMEBODY EAT CRAYONS? ANYBODY?? I want to see crayons, dammit!
