OpenAI unveils GPT-4o and new voice capabilities
OpenAI just unveiled GPT-4o, a new advanced multimodal model that integrates text, vision and audio processing, setting new benchmarks for performance – alongside a slew of new features.
Stay ahead of the curve with the latest trends in tech and marketing – join our subreddit community martechnewser today for instant notifications!
https://preview.redd.it/poya7c6hbd0d1.jpg?width=1292&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5a8f139a822981a1db04e84c553c20c30e29e1c
The new model:
  • GPT-4o provides improved performance across text, vision, audio, coding, and non-English generations, smashing GPT-4T’s performance.
  • The new model is 50% cheaper to use, has 5x higher rate limits than GPT-4T, and boasts 2x the generation speed of previous models.
  • The new model was also revealed to be the mysterious ‘im-also-a-good-gpt2-chatbot’ found in the Lmsys Arena last week.
Voice and other upgrades:
  • New voice capabilities include real-time responses, detecting and responding with emotion, and combining voice with text and vision.
  • The demo showcased feats like real-time translation, two AI models analyzing a live video, and using voice and vision for tutoring and coding assistance.
  • OpenAI’s blog also detailed advances like 3D generation, font creation, huge improvements to text generation within images, sound effect synthesis, and more.
  • OpenAI also announced a new ChatGPT desktop app for macOS with a refreshed UI, integrating directly into computer workflows.
Free for everyone:
  • GPT-4o, GPTs, and features like memory and data analysis are now available to all users, bringing advanced capabilities to the free tier for the first time.
  • The GPT-4o model is currently rolling out to all users in ChatGPT and via the API, with the new voice capabilities expected to arrive over the coming weeks.
Why it matters: Real-time voice and multimodal capabilities are shifting AI from a tool, to an intelligence we collaborate, learn, and grow with. Additionally, a whole new group of free users (who might’ve been stuck with a lackluster GPT 3.5) are about to get the biggest upgrade of their lives in the form of GPT-4o.

2024.05.14 12:18 ThiccLine Help, locked my hat Pikachu out of Soupercell Slam

Hello, I overwrote Soupercell Slam with a different move thinking I would've been able to make my Pikachu relearn it later but many saves later I realized I made a terrible mistake. I'm still at Lavender Town and I saw the Soupercell Slam TM is only available on Victory Road. Is there a way I can get it back? If anyone knows if there's a cheat code for that TM I would really appreciate it, I don't really want to have to grind to get another original Pikachu or wait until Victory Road to get a move my Pokemon already had before

2024.05.14 12:16 Rich_Apricot4554 4g Sim, 2FA issue

Hi,
is there any way that the 4g card in the luba2 could send a verification text sent to the sim card to the app as a notification?
I have a cheap 4g card that works perfectly, but the app for the service provider requires 2FA, and sends the 2FA code to the sim, which is in the lawnmower! So I have to take the 4g card out and put it into my phone, just to be able to login. If it could pass on texts into the notification panel, I could just get it from there.
Also it would be great if the in app notifications could go to the phone notifications, then it would ping my phone and watch and i would know its got an issue, without having to check it every 5 mins.
Other than that I love this mower, its epic!

2024.05.14 12:07 legalizePasta System design of a full stack application with services and its deployment on heroku

System design of a full stack application with services and its deployment on heroku
I have the following design structure and im not sure about a lot of stuff when I want to deploy it. (I want to do this to heroku). My questions are related more to system design/deployment than specific code.
https://preview.redd.it/lfa5xdm89d0d1.png?width=881&format=png&auto=webp&s=da12d28e98fd227de3e3050aaaf3aa40eef59a23
I have the following design structure and im not sure about a lot of stuff when I want to deploy it. (I want to do this to heroku). My questions are related more to system design/deployment than specific code.
I think from a design principle is pretty clear and concise. The app also has not any states (there is not a simutaneusly view of the same page, e.g. a dashboard or something so I don't need anything with concurrency)
I am really not sure on how to structure my app. I have previously deployed apps in heroku with a single repository (frontend and backend in the same repo). Is this a good Idea here? Currently I have the frontend and the processing system inside a single repo but my process takes too long so heroku won't let request over 30 secs to hold (so im taking this different approach with enhancements)
To sum up, Im wondering these things
  1. How to structure the code? A single repo with subfolders for each service/app? Can I dockerize them and push them to different heroku apps from a single repo and how?
  2. Different repositories for each service/app? then I can individually deploy them as a heroku app, is it worth there to dockerize them in this structure?
  3. What will be better for developing and deploying? (I mean the most convenient, the development will be do by me locally)
  4. what are other ways of deploying this except heroku but in a way that it will be easy and I will not stumble into a lot of devops stuff and how about their costs? I know heroku charges per usage so this app will be only up and running for minimal time.
  5. If I want to later go out of heroku to a full time deployment in other services/providers what provisions should I do now so it will be easy?
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.14 12:05 Bonegirl06 The Sad Fate of the Sports Parent

A true sports parent dies twice. There’s the death that awaits us all at the end of a long or short life, the result of illness, misadventure, fire, falling object, hydroplaning car, or derailing train. But there is also the death that comes in the midst of life, the purgatorial purposelessness that follows the final season on the sidelines or in the bleachers, when your sports kid hangs up their skates, cleats, or spikes after that last game.
The passage of time is woeful, and, for a parent, living your dreams through the progress of your progeny is as inevitable as the turning of the Earth. But the sports parent lives the experience in concentrate—a more intense version of the common predicament. You must give up your vicarious hope of big-league glory and let it die. You must part from what, if your kid pursued his passion seriously, had become a routine of away games and early-morning practices, hours in the car, a hot cup of coffee in your cold hand as the sun rose above the Wonderland of Ice, in Bridgeport, Connecticut; the Ice Arena in Brewster, New York; the Ice Vault, in Wayne, New Jersey—home of the Hitmen, whose logo is a pin-striped gangster with a hockey stick. And you’ll suddenly find yourself watching the Stanley Cup playoffs not in the way of a civilian but with the chagrin of knowing that the game’s upper ranks will never include your kid.
One recent morning, courtesy of Facebook Memories, I came across an old picture of my son, a high-school junior who recently announced his decision to quit hockey—to retire! The photo was taken by teammates after a victory at Lake Placid, New York. Sweat-soaked, draped in the arms of friends, grinning like a thief, he looked no less ecstatic than Mike Eruzione after he and his team won Olympic gold in the same arena in 1980.
And me? I was this Eruzione’s old man, waiting with the other parents outside the locker room, experiencing a moment of satisfaction greater than any other I’d known, either as a player or as a fan. I was a car in park with the accelerator pressed to the floor. I was a wall bathed in sunlight. This win was better than the Illinois State Championship I won with the Deerfield Falcons, in 1977. It was better than the Bears’ 1986 Super Bowl victory.
Bears’ 1986 Super Bowl victory.
Read: I thought I’d found a cheat code for parenting
The end began like this: One evening, after the last game of the high-school season, I asked my son if he’d be trying out for spring league. For a youth-hockey kid, playing spring league is the equivalent of a minor-league pitcher playing winter ball in Mexico—so necessary as a statement of intent and means of improvement that forgoing it is like giving up “the path.” Rather than a simple affirmative nod, as I’d expected, I got these words: “I’m going to think about it.” Think about it? For me, this was the same as a girlfriend saying, “We need to talk.”
Only later did I realize that those words were the first move in a careful choreography. My son wanted to quit, but in a way that would not break my heart. He also didn’t want me to rant and rave and try to talk him out of it.
We had reversed roles. He was the adult. I was the child.
He knew he would not be playing college hockey even if he could. With this in mind, he had decided to use his final year of high school to get to know people other than hockey players and spend time in places other than hockey rinks. In the way of a pro with iffy knees nearing the age of 35, he had decided to exit on his own terms. He was not worrying about losing his identity as a player or about missing the camaraderie of the locker room; he was worrying about me. Hockey had been an entire epoch of our father-son life. It had ushered me, the sports parent, out of my 30s, through my 40s, and into my 50s.
.... Because I am human, I tend to blame entities or systems or other people for things that strike me as unfair. As my son progressed, I caught a glimpse, for one fabulous, deluded moment, of the life that he (we, I) would never live: high-school athletic stardom followed by college triumph and possibly even a professional-hockey career. That I knew this was a fantasy—he was never that good—did not make it less powerful. Lost in it, I experienced my life as an NHL fan with new intensity. I was not just watching the Blackhawks; I was scouting, picking up tricks that I could pass to my glory-bound boy. This was a dream that I was too embarrassed to share with anyone, even my wife. I regarded it the way members of the Free French regarded the liberation of Paris: Think of it always; speak of it never. In short, I lost my way. Rather than letting him enjoy the moment and the fact that these seasons were his career, not a preparation or a path toward one, I was constantly scheming about his next move, his next opportunity, his next shot at the big time.
Here’s the worst part: I knew exactly what I was doing. I was attempting to replace my kid’s will with my own. I knew that it was wrong and, worse, counterproductive. The more I pressed, the less he enjoyed the game. The less he enjoyed the game, the worse he played. The worse he played, the more I pressed. Economists call this a negative feedback loop. I knew it but could not stop. It was psychosis.
Maybe the most notorious sports parents suffer from a shared psychological condition. LaVar Ball, Emmanuel Agassi, Earl Woods—those sports dads were all obsessed to the point of being abusive. I prefer to think that I am not; yet, for all the varying degrees of our kid’s success, our predicament is the same. At some point, even if it comes after 20 years in the pros, the set will be rolled away, revealing our true location. Rink parking lot. Beat-up vehicle. Alone. Even the child prodigies will retire.

2024.05.14 11:59 And_be_one_traveler Ever noticed how often r/AITA and all the similar subreddits love to blame feminism for things it doesn't advocate for?

For example, when they talk about how paternity works legally and the susposed acceptance of cheating
Legal Paternity
It's usually the case around the world that if a wife has a child during their marriage, the husband is legally assumed to be the father. Even if everyone involves knows he isn't, and all want to change this, they may still have to go to court.
This is somehow blamed on feminism. Never mind that depending on a guy who resents being a father for child support can be worse than just relying on welfare. And nevermind that all the women who fled their abusive husbands would love to not give him custody rights (because, many abusers see getting custody of their kids as a way to hurt their mother).
So why did it come from?
Firstly, law codes were mostly developed before paternity tests were a thing. This is just a guess, but at least in the West, where it was usually men who controlled the couple's money, lawmakers likely didn't want their sisters and daughters left destitute by false claims of infidelity.
And at least partially it comes from the fact that the state doesn't want to pay benefits it can get a way with. Which also explains why almost no politicians will advocate against the assumption of paternity for the husband. Just paying for a few weeks of welfare until paternity tests came back for every man, and then hoping the men will all pay the state back, would increase the cost of the social welfare budget for little, if any, community gain. And social welfare is often a large part of a state's budget.
And of course, modern DNA tests have their own problems, like the ethics around the use of DNA given for other purposes to catch criminals. And who would pay for them, and some others.
Cheating
Literally no popular feminist work advocates this. You could argue works like the Scarlet Letter are trying to cast sympathy on women seen as cheaters, but even those are asking why women are being punished much more harshly than men. And if cheating should be a purely social wrong, rather than a legal one. Some thing goes for the Handmaid's tale, particularly the series rather than the novel, where June is the other woman, rather than dating an already divorced man as she does in the novel.
You'll see cheating accepted in some film and TV shows, but I don't think feminist films are more guilty of this than any other genre. Those that do usually protray the women as a victim of abuse by her spouse, however Hollywood does like to sometimes show affairs as romantic simply because the other partner is kind of annoying and the main couple belong together. However, these nearly always have a man willingly a part of the affair. Hollywood is very happy to show men cheating too and protray it as a good or kinda bad thing when it wants too (eg. Oppenheimer).
Thinking about the major feminists I've heard of, I think their responses to having constant affairs would vary.
So yeah, feminism does not equal screwing over men. But AITA-land likes to insist it does

2024.05.14 11:53 apps-1 Modernizing Enterprise Applications with Low-Code Platforms

Enterprise applications are the backbone of modern businesses, supporting critical functions such as customer relationship management, supply chain management, and financial operations. However, many legacy enterprise applications struggle to keep pace with the rapidly evolving technology landscape, hindering organizational agility, innovation, and competitiveness. Low-code development platforms offer a compelling solution for modernizing enterprise applications, enabling organizations to accelerate the pace of innovation, improve user experiences, and drive digital transformation. In this article, we'll explore how low-code platforms can be leveraged to modernize enterprise applications effectively.

Understanding Enterprise legacy Application Modernization

Enterprise application modernization involves updating and transforming legacy applications to meet current business needs, technological requirements, and user expectations. Traditional approaches to application modernization often involve extensive rewriting or refactoring of code, which can be time-consuming, costly, and disruptive to ongoing operations. Low-code platforms offer an alternative approach, allowing organizations to modernize legacy applications rapidly using visual development tools, pre-built components, and automation capabilities.

Key Benefits of Modernizing Enterprise Applications with Low-Code Platforms

  2. User-Centric Design: Low-code platforms prioritize user experience and design, providing intuitive visual interfaces and drag-and-drop tools that empower developers to create modern, user-friendly applications that meet the needs of today's digital workforce.
  3. Integration and Interoperability: Low-code platforms offer robust integration capabilities, allowing organizations to seamlessly connect with existing systems, data sources, and third-party services. This enables smooth data exchange, process automation, and collaboration across the enterprise ecosystem.
  4. Scalability and Flexibility: Low-code platforms are designed to scale with the needs of the organization, supporting applications of varying complexity, size, and usage patterns. Whether building simple departmental apps or mission-critical enterprise solutions, low-code platforms offer the scalability and flexibility to support diverse use cases.
  5. Empowering Citizen Developers: Low-code platforms democratize application development, allowing business users, domain experts, and citizen developers to participate actively in the development process. By empowering non-technical users to build and customize applications, organizations can accelerate innovation, drive business agility, and foster a culture of digital innovation.

Strategies for Modernizing Enterprise Applications with Low-Code Platforms

  1. Assessment and Planning: Start by conducting a comprehensive assessment of existing enterprise applications to identify pain points, technical debt, and modernization opportunities. Develop a clear modernization strategy that aligns with business goals, prioritizes initiatives based on impact and feasibility, and establishes metrics for success.
  2. Selecting the Right Platform: Choose a low-code platform that aligns with your organization's requirements, technical capabilities, and modernization goals. Evaluate factors such as platform features, scalability, security, vendor support, and total cost of ownership (TCO) to select the platform that best meets your needs.
  3. Incremental Modernization: Adopt an incremental approach to enterprise legacy application modernization, focusing on iterative improvements and phased migration to modern architectures and technologies. Start with low-risk, high-impact initiatives, such as user interface (UI) modernization or integration with cloud services, and gradually expand legacy application modernization efforts to cover the entire application portfolio.
  4. User-Centric Design: Prioritize user experience and design throughout the modernization process, soliciting feedback from end-users and stakeholders to ensure that the modernized applications meet their needs and expectations. Leverage the visual design capabilities of low-code platforms to create intuitive, engaging, and responsive user interfaces that enhance productivity and satisfaction.
  5. Integration and Interoperability: Pay close attention to integration requirements and interoperability considerations when modernizing enterprise applications with low-code platforms. Ensure seamless integration with existing systems, data sources, and external services, leveraging APIs, connectors, and middleware to enable data exchange, process automation, and collaboration across the enterprise ecosystem.

Conclusion

Modernizing enterprise applications is essential for organizations looking to stay competitive, innovate, and adapt to changing business requirements and user expectations. Low-code platforms offer a powerful solution for modernizing enterprise applications rapidly, efficiently, and cost-effectively, enabling organizations to unlock new opportunities for innovation, growth, and digital transformation. By embracing low-code platforms as part of their modernization strategy, organizations can accelerate the pace of innovation, improve user experiences, and drive business agility in today's dynamic and competitive business landscape.
