2024.05.13 06:32 mightyarrow Weird recurring signal issue? (internet)
| I recently moved back into my home office for work and have noticed something odd that I'd seen months back but never paid attention to. I now suspect that it's been going on for several months now regularly, as I've noticed weird hiccups in YouTube TV for 30-45 secs at a time on occasion. The downstream light on my Netgear CM1100 modem flashes on a recurring basis every 5-15 mins, yet I'll remain connected though with a rougher connection (packet drops, slow responses, etc). I'm fairly certain that the modem itself is fine, but I've got some captured info from the logs as well as the status page. Can anyone please take a look and let me know what you may see wrong? Comcast's position so far on a tech support call is that there's nothing wrong, but I contend there's a signal issue and not with the modem, and I'm pretty sure all they did was their normal "let me press this button and if it says good then it must be good" Here is the recurring set of warnings/errors. Whenever this happens, Critical status gets reached in the Log. Typically the light stops flashing after a few mins, but again -- I'm still connected, but things seems slow to respond for a short bit. I also noticed that channels 32 and 193 seem to keep popping up in these recurring sets of messages. https://preview.redd.it/ghamzzyag40d1.png?width=1475&format=png&auto=webp&s=b4d22d6f604ee2f87504614ab684855f9f6bf940 Here's the modem status page while it's flashing: https://preview.redd.it/a3tv017dg40d1.png?width=1660&format=png&auto=webp&s=d87637e065f8cba3b40799666099e773b9038860 Any help that someone can provide would be appreciated. submitted by mightyarrow to Comcast_Xfinity [link] [comments] |
2024.05.12 02:45 geegol Network issues - Windows 11 computer drops from internet and will not reconnect whatsoever.
I built this custom computer a about 2 years ago and the internet is completely fine then it will act up only on this computer. I don't know why but it always takes me a few troubleshooting steps to be able to get it going again. However, this time it did not want to connect to the internet. I did some troubleshooting on my end but still could not resolve the issue. Below are my troubleshooting notes. I still have not solved this and any guidance or assistance would be greatly apperciated. I think it may be an issue with my DNS settings but I don't know what I am doing wrong.
OS: WIndows 11 pro
Troubleshooting notes:
I cleared the browser cache on Chrome for all time.
I ran the network-reset script. Script contains the following commands below:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
route -f
ipconfig /renew
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /all
route print (this is the last command in the script).
Reinstalled network driver.
I restarted the computer.
Ran route -f
Ran ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew
Ran ipconfig. IP address was an apipa showing 169.254.30.98.
Checked control panel -> network and internet -> wifi -> IPv4 settings. Confirmed a static IP was not set.
I forgot the wifi connection and reconnected to the wifi.
Confirmed no other devices on the network was having any issues.
Tried running ipconfig /renew again but the command got stuck. I waited 5 minutes. Cancelled the run of the command.
Ran route -f
Ran ipconfig. IP address was still an apipa.
Ran ipconfig /release
Ran ipconfig /renew. Command failed with "an error occurred while renewing interface Wi-Fi: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request timed out"
Tested another device (My mom's computer upstairs) and confirmed it had working internet.
Went to control panel -> network and internet -> wifi setting -> ipv4 settings.
Set the following information on the TCP/IPv4 settings:
IP:
10.0.0.136 Subnet:
255.255.255.0 Default gateway:
10.0.0.1 Preferred DNS server address: 10.0.0.1.
I clicked advanced -> went to DNS tab on the new advanced settings window.
I put in the DNS server address
10.0.0.41 on "DNS server addresses, in order of use"
I put
hsd1.ut.comcast.net for the DNS suffix for this connection.
The radio button for "append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes" was selected with Append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix checked.
The box for "register this connection's addresses in DNS" was checked.
I clicked ok to close out of DNS.
I clicked ok to close out of IPv4 settings.
I clicked ok to close out of wifi properties.
I clicked close to close out of wifi status.
I tried to ping google.com. As soon as I got the first request timed out response, I stopped pinging.
I tried to ping yahoo.com. I got 4 replies back.
I tried to go to
amazon.com in google chrome. I could not reach the page.
I cleared my cache and cookies in Chrome for all time.
Restarted Chrome.
Tried going to
amazon.com again within Chrome. "This site can't be reached"
I opened a new incognito window of Chrome.
I tried going to Amazon.com. "Amazon.com unexpectedly closed the connection" I could not reach the site.
I tried to ping
google.com again. I got 4 replies back via IPv6.
I tried to ping google.com using IPv4 (ping google.com -4) I got 1 response and the rest timed out.
I pinged 172.217.164.14 (google.com) and received 4 replies back.
Went back to control panel -> network and internet -> wifi.
Opened wifi properties -> Opened IPv4 settings -> changed it back to "obtain an IP address automatically"
Changed DNS settings to obtain DNS server address automatically.
I clicked ok to close out of the network menue.
IPv4 connectiivty went from "Internet" to "No network access"
I ran ipconfig and found I had an APIPA address of
169.254.30.98 Restarted the computer.
Computer came back up without any issues.
Wifi symbol was a globe for about 30 seconds then changed to a wifi signal.
I ran ipconfig and I had an IP address of
10.0.0.136 /24.
Confirmed a default gateway was showing.
I tried to ping google.com. Ping could not find google.com.
I ran ipconfig /flushdns.
I ran ping
www.google.com and received 4 replies back.
I ran ping
www.google.com -4 and received 4 replies back.
I opened chrome and typed in
www.google.com. "This site can't be reached. The connection was reset"
I tried to go to
www.yahoo.com. "This site can't be reached. The connected was reset." or I will get "Yahoo.com's server IP address could not be found.
Out of curiosity, I ran windows network diagnostics. Troubleshooter could not find anything wrong.
End troubleshooting notes.
Thanks in advance.

2024.05.11 19:29 extremelyannoyedguy Do they no longer offer contract discounts?
My contract for just Internet service went up over 40% this month after my contract expired. Phone sales claimed they had never offered a discount, which we all know isn't true. The salesdrone and manager at my local store claimed they got rid of those years ago before they were both hired. That is also a lie and I had my last two bills with me to prove that. They still wouldn't even ask upper level support if there's a discount.
Do they still do discounts? I can't afford an unexpected 40% increase.
Update: After an hour more of trying, I'm getting and their sales reps are getting errors from their load balancer "VIP HAS FAILED" and from their version of NGINX named OpenResty is also returning errors. The error it is returning is the same one when I screwed up the config on our load balancers at work that run the same software as Comcast before it was forked. I accidentally limited the headers to not large enough to handle the required cookies. Their site for me sets 96 cookies for a total size of 25k bytes. They simply don't know what they're doing.

2024.05.09 19:41 allmyhomieslovepasta Bally Sports Blackout
Over the last year Bally Sports parent company, Diamond Sports Group, has been going through bankruptcy proceedings and recently failed to renew its contract with Comcast (Xifnity) As a result, Comcast no longer shows any Bally Sports channels.
As of right now, if you have Comcast and are fans of the Twins, Braves, Marlins, Rays, Tigers, Guardians, Royals, Cardinals, Reds, Brewers, Rangers, or Angels you have no way to watch.
For example, I am a Twins fan and have MLB TV and Comcast. But as Comcast doesn’t show Bally Sports and MLB TV has regional blackouts, there is no way for me to legally watch the Twins without entirely changing my TV provider.
I haven’t seen a ton of discourse around this, but it feels like a huge oversight error by MLB to allow this to happen and have no contingency plan in place. Almost half the teams in the league are affected and Comcast is currently the largest cable provider in the US, serving ~14.5M households per Forbes.
I’d love to hear the BID team and community’s take on this whole situation and what the commissioner’s best course of action would be going forward.

2024.05.08 16:52 thePantherT Will democracy survive 2024. How Americans are being deceived.
The first mistake is to think that America is a democracy, were not. We are what Jefferson termed a Oligarchy. I will tell you my view and opinion, as someone whos studied history especially war history my whole life. Also currently studying pre American history in depth and our system and politics. Not everyone will agree and that's great, its America. The first thing I will say is that Americans are being deceived and misled and brainwashed. The purpose of this is to play both extremes against the middle, to polarize, to distract, to divide, to heard the middle/sheep between the 2 great evils the woke vs the fascists where "they" want us to go which is where were headed. Not only on a political or social level but on a national level through the controlling of information which historically has always been the greatest psychological weapon of war. Information is not completely controlled in America, but the information most people are accessing is controlled, from internet search engines, to news, to social media platforms, to entertainment, the greatest psychological weapon is the information Americans are not aware of. The information Americans see from the media, or google or wherever, does not reflect the actual state of politics in America and I hope to demonstrate this with my argument. Lets start from the basics, how did we get here. For you republicans out their who will probably think I am a leftist, I will start by attacking the woke first and why they are so dangerous to our nations principles and Liberty. The woke movement in America has highjacked the original meaning and purpose of the feminist movement. Woke has waged a war on American principles that has caused a reactionary politic in opposition that falsely correlates peoples support for the LGBTQ and tolerance with wokeism. Most the people supporting the LGBTQ are not even aware of what the woke represents or the damage it has done. They perceive this reactionary force namely conservatives as intolerant bigots and yes their is a radical movement on the far right that does represent bigotry's and racism, but like the woke, does not actually reflect the vast majority of conservative Americans. Let me try to demonstrate this fact with just one issue "abortion." The vast majority of Americans support early stage abortions crossing party lines to include conservatives. Two-thirds of Americans say it should be legal in the first trimester 69%. That's roughly 13 weeks. Majorities oppose abortion being legal in the second (55%) and third (70%) trimesters. Again crossing party lines. This according to gallop. In other words most Americans for you democrats out their, are not supportive of the complete abortion bans that the radical right is pushing, and that movement does not reflect the reality of politics for the vast majority of conservatives. The propaganda to divide people, to radicalize, to polarize, to dehumanize and create division is working but its a lie. The vast majority of Americans are concerned about the same issues but see things through different lenses of controlled information, and both sides are being deceived. Back to the woke and what they represent today. The woke have pushed a infinity of political agendas and policies in the name of Equality and Equity that are fundamentally antithetical to freedom. Such as Hiring policies based on race, sexual preference, or gender. Such as University selection based on race, gender or sexual preference. The woke have also targeted children and parents rights, pushing policies to allow kids to make the most consequential decisions they could possibly make, including gender treatments and puberty blockers, at children's most vulnerable and unstable stages of development. without parental oversight or say, in fact trying to imprison parents in California who apposed this after finding out that schools were "educating children" on their rights to make such decisions, again all in the name of rights. But children cannot buy guns, or drugs, or make other consequential decisions, and this is far from the only communist gospel the woke are pushing. They are targeting free expression, that is speech which is not explicitly a threat or call for violence, but labeled offensive. Even rejecting terms like Women to be replaced with "Birthing person." Rejecting terms like rapist or murderer to be replaced with "persons involved in justice." This stuff is sickening to see and Dr. Phil does a good job on this in his book, WE’VE GOT ISSUES. The woke also want to disarm the population, stigmatizing self defense and guns, once a symbol of Liberty and the Inherent natural right to self defense. A people that cannot resist can and will always end in slavery and oppression. “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”― Benjamin Franklin. Those who are willing to sacrifice their liberty for temporary security are ultimately left with neither liberty nor security. Yes I am aware and consider gun violence to be a major issue that must be addressed but I consider shootings and crime, and suicide, and the declining birthrate to be mere symptoms of much greater problems including our predatory crony system, and the kinds of gun control being pushed does violate the constitution. Illinois banned every semi automatic weapon including pistoles basically every gun available. If their is a line between weapons of war and mass death and the second amendment that has not yet been settled, this is a gross violation of the right to self defense. Homicide was the largest single category of gun deaths among children and teens in 2021, accounting for 60% of the total that year. It was followed by suicide at 32% and accidents at 5%. Among U.S. adults, by contrast, suicides accounted for a 55% majority of gun deaths in 2021. A rise by 50 percent in 2 years. That's 3.5 per 100,000 people. This is far from everything the woke are doing but its a basic summary of some of what they are doing, which is antithetical to American Principle that People should be judged, and have opportunity based on merit alone and nothing else. The woke are pushing an equality of outcome at the expense of the rights of others, and Equal opportunity. They are waging a war on fundamental liberties and the Inherent Natural Rights of mankind. I shall now tackle the radical right, which honestly I have done more research on because many of our current issues do go back to the republicans of the 1970s 80's. Back then it was largely democrats representing American principles and a fair system, and human rights. The radical right, and how they have moved away from American principles. 2016 was a turning point in American history. Donald Trumps election shook the very foundations of the Union, beginning with a denial of foreign influence however inconsequential it was, and an assault on American principles. It has become very clear to former Republicans like myself who still admire Lincolns republican party and remain proud Democratic Republicans, that Trump did not challenge any real systemic corruption while in office. In fact Trump embodied the swamp, excepting dark Corporate money in huge sums. Trump successfully dismantled opposition to his rule in the Republican party, and now threatens the nation with another presidency promising vengeance against political opposition. Trump preaches hate and intolerance rarely seen in American politics, calling his opposition vermin, and embracing Marxist Leninist critical race theory, saying that immigrants are "poisoning the blood" of our nation. Something the republicans of yesterday, Condemned vehemently in support of a colorblind society. The American principle to judge people based on merit alone. Instead of Peace through Strength, Trump would go on to surrender US bases in Syria to Putin's troops, allowing Putin to further consolidate his support of dictator Assad. Trump would move the US embassy to Jerusalem ultimately taking sides in the Israel Palestine dispute, certainly contributing to the Israel Hamas war. Trump surrendered a stable Afghanistan which for the first time had basic human rights and liberty, education and opportunity. He threatened to withdraw from NATO, and other allies including South Korea, Poland and others. Trump gave North Korea international recognition in exchange for a photo, arguably the most repressive system on earth. He publicly declared Americas men and women in uniform liars, stating that dictator Putin was "Extremely Strong and powerful in his denial" after US intelligence exposed Russia's systematic interference in our democratic process. Trumps covid policies hollowed out the middle class. Trumps deregulation further crippled the governments ability to challenge Corporate power, and the corporate stranglehold and impoverishment of our Republic. Today every sector of the US economy is monopoly mirroring the very system which caused the American revolution, Corporations and State. Trumps presidency was a wakeup call to the nation, reminding Americans of the dangers that not only led to the misguided 2016 election of Donald Trump, but superseded his election by creating the dangers and problems associated with crony capitalism and corporate oligarchy. Like the 1920s and what many Americans called "the Republican Great depression" today we face once again the same dangers of Monopoly and corporate domination. Republicans once again embody Corporations and State. If elected republicans are promising to enshrine right wing fascism, Church and State, Corporations and State, into the fabric of the nation. The Republican party of today began the processes which lead to the financial corruption of politics and the sale of our nations independence, the destruction of localized vibrant economies. Starting in the 1970s. Today Corporate monopolies dominate the nation, and while hard working Americans struggle with the incredible burden of taxation, stagnant wages, corruption in politics, a health crisis caused not only by deregulation and corporate capture, but by monopolies dominating medical treatment and healthcare. Robber barons live in wealth and luxury in a system designed to Rob Americans of the fruits of their labor, robbing the nation of growth, innovation, competition, and "the Great Prosperity." In fact "Greed inflation" is at an all time high, Americans are ripped off and impoverished because their is no competition. In a Real Democratic Republic ensuring Equal Opportunity, Americans would have the highest quality products at the lowest cost. Individual Success would be a choice of labor and merit. History has already demonstrated this fact. Beginning with the American revolution, which contrary to the corporate propaganda in our broken education system, was not caused by taxation, their has been a constant struggle for Equal Opportunity that is reemerging today among disgruntled Americans who have been left behind and failed by the current corrupt predatory system. Trump is not the cause of Americas corruption or decline, that is what got him elected, the promise to uproot the corruption. It had an appeal to many Americans at the time including myself, and only later on did I become the critic of Trump that I am now.
Corporate Monopoly today and the American Revolution. The tea act of 1773 which caused the Boston Tea Party, did not increase taxes on Americans, and although like today the sentiment against paying high taxes was strong it did not trigger the American revolution. The tea act of 1773 lowered taxes for the worlds largest Corporation, allowing East India company to undersell and put American tea companies out of business, establishing a Monopoly on tea. The tea act of 1773 was merely the continuation of policies which subsidized large corporations at the expense of the nation. In fact the tea act of 1773 lowered tea prices for Americans. This debate over classical Economics goes back to the beginning of economic theory, and our understanding of economics and scientists like Adam Smith. An important note I want to make is that the democratic republicans of the time rejected some of Adam Smiths classical economics and his invisible hand. They understood that in such systems, corporations have an infinity of levers to artificially manipulate the market, to increase profits and what they called "milking the population for every penny." The results they demonstrated, were always the centralization of wealth and power into a corporate monopoly and Oligarchy. Also the conditions this created they argued, leads to population declines and other major problems and declines. Again all of this debate happened prior to the American revolution but apart of the movement and politics which later encompassed what became the American nation based on Democratic Republican principles. Some of the Democratic Republicans in America were Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, George Mason, James Monroe and many others. They apposed the Aristocratic republicans. The "Boston Tea Party" was a rebellion against Corporations and State. Today Republicans champion the same policies and system which caused The Boston Tea Party, granting tax breaks to and subsidizing large corporations which now fund and control the Republican party. This caused the death of localized vibrant economies bringing corporate chain stores, and killing small businesses, and competition. It hollowed out our manufacturing power, as these same corporations moved their business abroad for cheap slave labor, partnering with tyrannical governments willing to do corporate friendly business at the expense of their own nations and people. Then selling those cheap products to Americans at higher and ever increasing monopoly pricing. Today America is monopolized and faces a concentration of power unlike anything the world has ever seen. Before the 80s no company could purchase a competitor if it meant controlling more then 4% of a product. As a result of "the Powell Memo" which called on corporations to actively involve themselves in politics, followed by corrupt right wing supreme court justices who started this process, by ruling that, money is speech in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, dismantling The Tillman Act of 1907, and allowing corporations to fund politics. Since then Corporations have been funding politics and righting legislation, from the Supreme Court, to the congress, to the presidency, to government institutions like the FDA which are supposed to regulate their profiteers. Worse yet monopolies have gobbled up local economies and centralized every industry in America in the name of lower prices and deregulation. Today only a few big corporations control every industry in the United States. The top 1% of families captured 58% of total real income growth per family from 2009 to 2014. For 40 years prior to Reaganomics the wealth of middle class Americans was increasing faster than the top 1 percent, faster than executive’s although they did just fine. Since then, where we had wide celebrated diversity in every industry like beer brewing for example, Milwaukee's finest and you had to smuggle cores light out of Colorado. Today we have instead 2 corporations that produce over 90% of all the beer consumed in the United States. While South Koreans get internet speeds 200 times faster and far more reliable than what most Americans get, paying only 27$ a month. Americans pay an average of 90$ a month, Europeans pay an average of 19$ a month and the speeds are faster and more reliable and unlimited. The European Union has taken an active role in crushing monopolies. In the US just 1 company Comcast controls over 50 percent of the market. On Wall Street, the 20 biggest banks own assets equivalent to 84% of the United States entire gross domestic product. Just 12 of those banks own 70% of all banking assets. That means if those 12 banks collapse, the entire system collapses. Just 4 companies control 90% of the grain trade. 3 companies control 70% of the American beef industry. Just 4 companies control 58 percent of the U.S. pork and chicken producing processes. In retail Walmart controls 1/4 of the entire US grocery market. 4 companies produce 75% of our breakfast cereal, 75% of all snack foods, 60% of all cookies, and half of all the ice cream sold in supermarkets around the nation. In health insurance just 4 companies control 3/4 of the entire health insurance market. In 38 states just 2 ensures control 58% of the market. In 15 states just 1 insurer controls over 60% of the market. In the cellular phone market just 4 companies control 89% of the market. Capitalism does work for the average American and small businesses, but only when the rules are set that way. Rig those rules to give disproportionate power to the very wealthy and we have what Franklin Roosevelt called fascism.
FDR. "Unhappy events abroad have retaught us two simple truths about the liberty of a democratic people. The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is Fascism—ownership of Government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. The second truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if its business system does not provide employment and produce and distribute goods in such a way as to sustain an acceptable standard of living. Both lessons hit home. Among us today a concentration of private power without equal in history is growing. This concentration is seriously impairing the economic effectiveness of private enterprise as a way of providing employment for labor and capital and as a way of assuring a more equitable distribution of income and earnings among the people of the nation as a whole."
Unlike and antithetical the the Party of Lincoln, Republicans today champion ideas and policies antithetical to the very fabric of our nation, antithetical to American principles. “I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.” —U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864
Likewise Jefferson among many of the founders feared the dangers of corporate power, and advocated until his death for an amendment banning monopolies. “the selfish spirit of commerce (that) knows no country, and feels no passion or principle but that of gain.” "I sincerely believe, with you, that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies" Jefferson also expressed his concerns in a response to the new constitution. "I will now add what I do not like. First the omission of a bill of rights providing clearly & without the aid of sophisms for freedom of religion, freedom of the press, protection against standing armies, RESTRICTION AGAINST MONOPOLIES" Today it is clearer then ever that republicans represent a fascist threat to the United States of America. The republican party champions Corporations and State, but so to do the democrats. Politics on both sides and the institutions of government are captured by corporate interest. Meanwhile America is spending its way to ruin. The interest on the national debt in 2024 is going to be a staggering 870 billion dollars. The controversy in our education system and woke garbage comes at a time when kids are scoring the lowest in critical areas since records began. While Americans suffer the highest chronic illness of any nation on earth, It's a well-documented fact that adverse prescription drug effects and other medical errors are the third leading cause of death in America. Americas foreign policy since the Kennedy Assassination's has been to topple democratically elected governments, to open our economy to nations antithetical to our values, and unwilling to follow the same rules. To impose a national security state, violating the constitution, and to wage a war on our Inherent Natural Rights in the name of national security. My own opinion is that RFK jr is the only candidate running against the real systemic corruption and issues America faces. He is the only one that's talking about the issues and their cause. When I first heard about him I thought he was exactly what the media says, a conspiracy nut and clown. But having learned the hard way about how to think for myself, I had to read his books and see his side of things before taking an opinion based on the accusations and claims of the media. I challenge anyone with an opinion on the matter to do your diligence, read his books before taking a cold hard position on RFK. I was actually shocked. The scientific studies in his books you'll never hear about from the Big Pharma funded news agencies. The information people are getting is one sided and controlled. I actually love RFK for what he is doing and why, because he gives a dam, because real morality exists only in those who contributed human misery and suffering to injustice, and established an emotional connection to justice itself. That is to care about those whose suffering doesn't effect us. My current studies on the Enlightenment and Age of Reason have caused me to think about this in depth lately. But seriously RFK jr in my opinion is the only chance in hell of up righting this ship. Its our choice, and those who say that a vote for RFK is a vote for Trump must face the fact that RFK is taking a much larger percentage of trump support then Biden. Even today I found out that RFKs recent video was already being censored on Facebook.
https://youtu.be/guw1fLJs5EY?si=3h66OCZDNmWGcdUw They want to stigmatize and character Assassinate him with their machine of psychological warfare. They hope that Americans will not do their due diligence and investigate fort themselves, such as actually reading RFKs books or listening to his full statements and speech in context, where they've labeled him a racist and anti vax.

2024.05.08 04:09 yreehawr Search for Root Cause Issue of Streaming Issue
Hi everyone, I'm struggling to run Plex consistently on my Synology DS223j on my Apple TV. I'm starting to worry and regret my purchase and want to get to the root of the issues. I can't tell if my root issue is the NAS, Plex settings, or my routemodem/home network. I'd like to track down the root of this, and so any other subreddits or resources would be fantastic. I am going to post to Synology as well.
The thing that makes me scratch my head is that this Apple TV also experiences hiccups on other regular streaming platforms with a "No Network Detected", so while the NAS correlates to the start of the network issues, the bottleneck might be elsewhere than Plex, but I wanted to ask here.
Some top level things up first:
- Synology 223j with 2x 8Tb WD Reds running SHR.
- RouteModem is XB8 Technicolor modem (Comcast Xfinity - loud booing)
- I regularly speed test over WiFi and usually pull ~300up/50down with < 30ms ping.
- I used Fing to detect that I have ~25 devices connected to my network at any given time.
- A handful of laptops, a few Raspberry Pi Zero Ws, a handful of smart home devices on my 2.4Ghz band, an Xbox.
- At most, I am only ever using 2-3 devices simultaneously and pulling larger bandwidth, but I haven't done a formal test on my network load.
- Apple TV
- Its the Apple TV HD (1st gen) from ~2017 with the following specs
- 10/100BASE-T Ethernet
- Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac with MIMO)
- Note that in the last day I have fully factory reset this thing because I am seemingly only having issues with this one with the Network issue, HOWEVER, I have another Apple TV that only experiences the Plex buffering issues.
I discovered that when I run on my Apple TV using "Play Original Quality" that I get noticeable hiccups that make the playback unpleasant - the video is chopping and slightly speeds up/slows down. At first, I am working only on Wifi - later I connect a CAT5 cable directly between my modem/router.
I changed to "Convert Automatically" and noticed that for many things, that the quality seemed to reduce but it made the playback smoother. However, ever since then, I have been getting "Network Issues" notifications from my Apple TV, or getting the "Server isn't fast enough to convert this" (paraphrasing) issue. I am posting a screenshot of my Resource Monitor on Synology while running these settings. Clearly I am nearly maxing out the CPU.

I looked up this compatibility matrix from the Plex website after the purchase (yay) and I am struggling to understand what this implies for me.
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201373803-nas-compatibility-list/ What does software transcoding and hardware accelerated transcoding mean for me?

2024.05.07 16:59 OceanJasperhasmy6 Rather get a gyno check w/1800s equipment than deal with Xfinity/Comcast/whatever their name will be in 3 years....
I'm really going to try to keep this short. It's not going to work.
April 26th, I called Xfinity to downgrade from 800mb. Finally started to research and spoke with an old colleague, realizing I didn't need even close to this speed. Flat with two humanz, who stream and browse. No uploads/downloads or gaming (if this matters).
I hate calling Xfinity, I would rather get 8 root canals and a pap smear with equipment from the 1800s instead of trying to communicate with Concast/Xfinity. But, in calling to downgrade, no contract, phone PIF (don't get me started on getting it unlocked). Striaght forward, yes? Sigh.
4/26th I call at 6:21pm est. Ended at 1130pm(ish) to downgrade. I'd finally reached a tier two supervisor who seemed to actually care abt the customer.
I have both mobile/net through them (12+ yrs w/net, 5/7yrs mobile). I never received discount promised & was oversold on 800mb of speed. No uploads/downloads, no gaming (if that matters). By the time I reached said tier two, offered $150 credit (BTW, I do record calls to them, and say so as they record too), which for Xfinity is a unicorn, I know. I really don't mean to sound greedy, but ffs, on the low end of said discount, I was owed around around $540. I know it isn't the reps, supervisors, tier two, three, 18 who have thee powers.
Cut to the point. Last week, I was able to access my statements, had a quick glance, & would download, simplify three billz from 2021, '22, '23. I dunno why they can't see it. Yelp. This all changed after I called to remove my $15 phone warranty. It brought my unlimited down to $30.
Two days ago, I was set. I'm going to grab the statements and send them off. Of course, he'd have to send them to a different part of the company that handles these issues. The $150 would still be good if they'd deny it, which, well....
Only I can't. I try to sign into my account. I get this notification due to a processing error on their end, my bill has been updated to show the correction. It's options *review later or review and approve changes. I try both. It cycles back, either option. Regardless of what I choose, if *I don't approve it it loops right back to due to a processing error.
I can't access my statements. I can't access my account. (They say, "Don't let anyone ever take your peace" (whomever they* are) haven't ever dealt with comcast). I don't want to call them, chat them, however, no options. Reps can't send my statement or email error, they say. BUT I do get an email that they gave me a $10 credit. I ask to have processing error explained. Ignored. At this point, I'm chatting & waiting on the line. Started at 935am, gave up around 1pm.
Miraculously, my mobile statements appeared, emailed 5m after i gave up. From 2021 to now. So, circling back, the original tier two supervisor doesn't have access to my account history? I've emailed him said statements and not a peep. Can't Sat I'm surprised but definitely disappointed.
To recap/or TL;DR (semi-colon or not) 1. Tier two supervisor say no access to mobile statements going back to 2021. 2. I can't access my account due to processing error on their end, and must review and approve, & 2 options are given, both on app & laptop, trying multiple browsers. Review later or review and approve changes Either one, if I don't click approve I'm looped right back to the processing error notification. This, coincidentally, appearing a week after canceling my $15 warranty charge for my phone.
The final detail I'll mention, is they do (I don't even have the words to explain it) show previous plan $30.65 new updated charges $86. My internet bill has never ever been 30 bucks. Where this number came from.... maybe it was a bill where I was credited a certain amount bc I've been paying anywhere between $60 - 90 & that's not including my cell.
I haven't been able to search into other internet providers because this time around, I'm either doing small claims or arbitration. In my state I can do small claims up to 10k. I've never sued anyone never mind a company with way deeper pockets than I'll ever have. I'll be lucky if I can afford the small claims fee + serving the demand letter. I have gave them the 120 day notice.
I've screencapped my calls (you can see how many times i was disconnected during transfers, video recorded the looping, both on the app, laptop via chrome/brave/firefox, etc.
They are now offering new customers the essentials package, at $29.95, a free phone & free year of unlimited service.
Us, those who've been with them for over a decade, if not longer? Zip. I'm sure anything I've recorded even with their acknowledgement/consent won't be admissible in court.
Or I'll be disappeared 😆

2024.05.07 02:25 GroundbreakingYak527 Not a Customer of Comcast
As a mod on the corvette forum, I get probably 30+ reports (emails) a day from forum members about "he said; she said, or tech, whatever. Well I have my home email linked to the corvette forum (CF) as the target of the emails that come from the forum. On April 15th, my mail from CF stopped. Dead, Nada, Zilch. Our CF techs tell me that they are getting an email error message that states something on the order that "I am not a customer" of comcast. This is somewhat of a surprise as I have TV, Internet, & phone with comcast. I am receiving (as far as I can tell) email to my comcast email from the world (Bank, Amazon, spam, ads, physicians), basically anyone that wants to send to my personal email address with comcast is received. I changed my email to my wife's comcast email ID and I receive email from the CF. I used an old AT&T email ID to test and I get forum emails on that ID.
The
only site that I
can't get mail from is the CF when I use my [
personalID@comcast.net](mailto:
personalID@comcast.net) email as my destination email address. I've been a moderator on CF for many years and have had no issues with my email ID.
Comcast has me on some higher tier for their trouble shooting attempts.
I have:
Intel 10 core I9 10900K 4900Mhz 64 GB DDR4 RAM Windows 11 NVIDIA GTX Super 6GB 1 TB SATA HD 1TB PCI-E 3.0 HD Using MS Office 365 with Outlook 365 to pull my mail.
Changing from comcast is not an option. With AT&T I got 18MB down and 2MB up while I'm running 500MB down and 35MB up with comcast. No way in hell I'm going that route with AT&T. We have a new fiber system going into the neighborhood but I'd have to reorganize pretty much every service I have to stream or whatever, nope not going there.
Sigh... I wonder if anyone else with comcast has fallen into the same black hole that my ID hit. Anyone got a way to see if there are other people affected the same as I am?
80 years old and way too old to have to put up with this issue. Remember, really technical answers might be a serious challenge for me to understand. I was told about this site and that it offered very good information on what I need to do or if comcast is the problem, a good contact to get problems fixed.
I'm guessing on the response of "flair".

2024.04.30 23:12 Icy-Environment-6234 Access Denied - You don't have permission to access "[SEVERAL SITE ADDRESSES]" on this server.
For going on 10 days now I have had this recurring message (site and reference changes)...
"Access Denied - You don't have permission to access "[SEVERAL SITE ADDRESSES]" on this server. Reference #18.6eca4d17.1714509399.3d8df266
https://errors.edgesuite.net/18.6eca4d17.1714509399.3d8df266"
... on several, oddly enough, travel related sites: United, Southwest, Delta, American, Marriott, Hilton, Vrbo but not National Car Rental. I searched this community and there are similar messages from several years ago but don't seem to be exactly on point nor offer a solution.
I have a Comcast/Xfinity wireless router, no other equipment in the loop (no second/other wireless router). To date, after LOTS of worthless calls to Xfinity tech support, the awful "assistant" chat, and finally getting to someone on the phone who sent out a tech who did everything I have already done, in total, I have...
- Either I have or Xfinity has reset the router a total of 12 times as of 4-21 to 4/29 NOT counting installing a new router TWICE - I'm on my third router in 10 days
- Ran Malwarebytes AND Acronis scans, no malware then disabled all malware protection, disabled the firewall, cleared cookies and cache (twice now) and nothing changes (reenabled protection...)
- Unistalled and reinstalled Chrome and also tried fresh installations of Edge and even Mozilla
- Tried incognito in Chrome
- Tried other devices (in total, two desktops, two laptops on Windows 10 and 11, all latest updated releases, and one Google Pixel phone) and when they are connected through the same router either wireless or hardwired, they all get to the same error message (different site names, different reference number, otherwise same message)
- Saw some other advice and did a "blacklist check," I checked my IP address and one of them (based on the IP address of the router 3 routers ago...) WAS blocked at "SORBS" and "SORBS HTTP" but the newest IP - with the 3rd router now - does NOT show up on that list, Xfinity says they can't change my IP address anyway and we still have the same problem
- Xfinity rep told me to check IPv6 – I did, it scores 0/10 connected through Xfinity
- I went to the Xfinity store and changed out the router, reinstalled, it and everything worked with the same SSID and password for a while, then failed again a few hours later with the same Access Denied error messages at same sites
- Xfinity sent out a tech, I showed him what I'd done, he checked wires and connectors, switched out the router (that would be #3 in this 10 day period), watched me set it up, we used a completely different SSID and everything worked then changed back to the normal SSID I have used so everything around the house reconnected and - as before - everything worked, so he left, 24 hours later, we're back to "Access Denied."
- I have used the exact SAME devices, the same software, BUT connected through my T-Mobile phone's Hotspot, all could successfully access the sites and scored 10/10 on my T-Mobile hotspot for IPv6
- I used the Xfinity router BUT connected through a VPN and everything - on the listed devices - all access worked, no error message
I think I have demonstrated the problem is not PEBKAC and - since the devices work with a different connection - not with my devices. I'm out of options and Xfinity support has been nearly 0/10 apart from the short term "fix." Before I give up on Xfinity and run coffee cans and a bit of string for connectivity if I have to (I'm that frustrated) I'll open this up to anyone's thoughts.

2024.04.26 22:08 Sid_Sheldon Broad Com/VMware new Support seems remarkably useless
My manager ends up, not getting an invitation to the new broad Com portal for VMware. I try the Broadcom webpage the new one get various errors indicating something in the account screwed up that I just transitioned. I tried calling Com support from the number on that same webpage and basically told no you have to call VMware Then call VMware Promtly end up in India where the person who answered the phone call had no idea about the webpage no idea what to do and essentially told me to call Broadcom back. So I’m stuck out of luck. I’ll wait until they transition over and see if I can get a live human being. I’m not hopeful every time I think the tech-support is pathetic and it gets worse. Support makes Comcast look like a rockstar.

2024.04.25 23:00 catanalogy Hitron Coda56 experiences (upgrading from M7621)
This post is somewhat of a follow up to
my recent tech support post, where I was noting difficult-to-diagnose connection stability issues that persisted despite a technician visit and physical upgrades to cabling, etc. Given that we're due to get the next-gen upload speed upgrades in our neighborhood in a couple weeks, I figured it was time to get a new modem anyway, and the helpful Xfinity reps here on reddit and I wondered outloud if a new modem might help with the connection issues too. A couple people here who read my original post indicated they would be interested to hear my impressions of the Coda56, so here they are.
My previous modem was a Motorola 7621 which I've used for years with zero problems until recently. It's DOCSIS 3.0 only, so theoretically maxed out on my 800/20 plan. Was curious about the Netgear C3000, but not for $300, so that left the Hitron Coda56 which was $139 delivered from Amazon.
Activating it took about 10 minutes using the Xfinity app. Once the system found the unit it upgraded the firmware (I could see the modem restart twice), then it was good to go. Connected it to my Eero head unit and my network was back in business as expected. Easy.
With the Motorola, speed tests maxed out at around 830/20 and took some time to ramp up to those speeds. With the Coda56, using the Ookla Speedtest app on my Mac, the speed
immediately jumps to 930-950 and stays there. Upload speed similarly now pegs at 24 without delay. Unfortunately, I don't have a device with a 10G (or 2.5G, for that matter) network port handy so I can't test if I've got over-provisioned speed beyond 950 or so, since that's pretty close to the practical max of 1G ethernet, but regardless, I feel like I now have a modem that has plenty of room to run if I ever upgrade to a higher speed tier, higher-end networking equipment, or once the next-gen upload upgrades are complete.
One negative is it's not easy to access the modem's internal GUI. I have to connect a laptop directly to the unit itself with a manually-assigned IP address in a certain range and only then can I load the signal information page—it won't load through a router as every other modem I've ever owned does. Annoying, but, again, knew that would be the case going in since it's a well-documented quirk of Hitron's setup.
Modem shows signal signal readings inline with what the Motorola showed—a side effect of a recent Xfinity technician visit to my house is I now have a hot signal: I have no splitters or anything between me and where the cable comes into the house and all connections and cables, including from the junction box in the back yard, are brand new. My downstream power levels are around 8-9 and upstream around 38-39, as a result. I was controlling this on the Motorola with a 6db attenuator, but I've removed it for now to see how the Hitron deals with my unmolested signal. None of the next-gen upload connections (OFDMA) show as active, which is expected since that upgrade hasn't happened locally yet, but is coming soon.
So far, no uncorrectable errors, and only a tiny handful of correctable after several hours. But I need to monitor this over the course of a few days to see if I run into the same problems I've had on and off for the last three weeks (random huge bursts of uncorrectable errors and significant packet loss). But so far, after about half a day, I'm cautiously optimistic.
TL;DR: Replaced old DOCSIS 3.0 modem with Hitron Coda56 as a result of recent connectivity issues and to prep for next-gen speed upgrades. Setup was trouble free and Coda56 has already improved my existing speeds. Seems, so far, like a great value and a decent choice for a basic, performant, stable modem. I'll be watching for reemergence of my on again, off again connectivity problems. submitted by

2024.04.23 20:30 Connect-Gur6020 Cable Card Issue
Saturday morning 4/20/2024 I noticed that the various channels associated with teh Entertainment
and News package which is on my account all return a V58 error on my Tivo. I called Comcast and the
last troubleshooting step we took was to replace the Cable Card in one of Tivo units. I have 2 Tivo's and they both had the same issue with channels in the package. After replacing the card ( I have 2 spares due to an issue I had in November 2023) the card would not complete the pairing/activation process. Now no channels work on the Tivo. A ticket was opened, but I don't have the number. I called Monday afternoon, but the only update is that a ticket had been created. I don't understand what is taking so long to correct an issue that Comcast caused.
Thank you for any information you can provide.

2024.04.18 18:57 ObsoleteUtopia Email catastrophes
I apologize in advance for the length of this. I'd rather explain too much than too little.
A couple of months ago, for reasons I don't understand, Comcast asked me to change my password. I'd changed it on my own earlier this year and it is 17 characters of gibberish. Finally, it wouldn't accept my credentials any more so I had to go ahead with it.
I changed it, and it didn't work. I asked for a code to be sent to a non-Comcast address I have; it didn't show up, so I called "tech support". I was on the phone for about 70 minutes (I am not making this up) and eventually got somebody who seemed to know what I was talking about, but the connection was so bad I couldn't continue the conversation. I asked her to call me back, but she didn't. (The connection was pretty bad all the way through, and one of the people was obviously in a "boiler room".) I did glean how to get to where my password is on the server, but I was so frustrated by then I didn't write it down.
I tried again a couple of days later and successfully changed it, kind of, or I thought I did.
Right now my problems are:
I can get onto the server and read incoming mail. I get a pop-up message saying there's an error on SMTP, but I cannot find it. I re-entered everything on my offline email client, but maybe there's an error online (I've got "keep me signed in" set on the server). I want to get on the server and see if there's an error on my password there, but I don't know how.
Also, one time when I went on the server to see if I'd gotten anything, I was able to download the mail after that, but then it stopped working again. I put my creds and PW into the settings in my email client, just in case the database got blemished, and it worked again. Once.
So I think what I need from you is:
- How do I get to my password information on your server?
- Is my username on SMTP "username" or "username@comcast.net"?
I'm going to have to do the same thing to a couple of other comcast.net email addresses (for my wife), so I really need to know all this stuff.
I really can't spend another 70 minutes on the phone.
My email client is Vivaldi, which you may never have heard of. It is a reconstruction and modernization of Opera, built on Chrome, with an email module built from scratch; it has worked flawlessly for about two years. The OS is Windows 10.
(I don't know if this matters, but one of the new passwords I tried to use had a very rude comment about Xfinity embedded in it.)

2024.04.16 13:21 Network-Geek Why a T3 exact same time every day?
I am hoping someone from Comcast like
u/CCBrieD might be able to help with this question...since I have been on mid-split upgraded service with a Netgear CM3000 for about 6 weeks or so, everything has been working fine except for one curiosity. Every morning at 4:30 AM, the modem log reports a T3 error. This never happened prior to the mid-split/CM3000 install.
It's just one T3 - and it's literally from 4:29 AM to 4:31 AM local time every single day! Most days I get no other T3 errors, maybe some days I get 1-2 throughout the day - that's expected I think.
This obviously doesn't impact our network operation in the house, but I am very curious what it could be. There is nothing on a timer in the house that could be setting it off with a power surge or something - no lights, water heater, heat/AC, appliances, TVs, etc. The cable from outside is very clean inside our house, and is not near anything. Outside the cable goes up to a pole.
There are never any uncorrectible errors on the modem page, and in a week there will be about 10-15 correctible errors on about 10 downstream channels. Also, SNR are excellent (~44 on all channels), and power levels are well in spec. There are no T2, T4, MDD, TCS partial service, or other errors in the modem log. So it seems to be a very clean line. If there was some sort of power surge inside/outside the house causing this, you would think it would happen other times of the day as well.
Is Comcast resetting the network or something every morning? Is this common n mid-split networks? I would love to know what it is if anyone has an idea. Thanks!

2024.04.16 02:05 BudgetPear7084 Comcast/Xfinity Sold 187$ Debt to Credit Management That They Made in Error
Hello All!
I'm just stopping by here to ask for some advice on how a situation will impact my credit score.
So, in October of 2023, I moved out of my old apt building and into a nicer complex that provided internet. After having Xfinity since 2019, I sadly had to part with it since I wasn't going to be paying twice for the internet. I closed my account, got a receipt for my returned equipment, and was told by the agent that my account was paid in full. I went about my day until I got a charge on my card for 187$ from Xfinity. Confused, I called them and was told that this was done in error so I should see a refund in 7 days. That week went by and no refund, so I called my bank (Discover) and had them dispute it. Whatever they found warranted my dispute and I was returned my money.
Xfinity sent me another notice that I owed them money so I gave them another call. The agent says the system is automated and has not recognized that I did not owe them money yet. I accepted this and went about my life. Then I got a letter from Credit Management that now I owe them money. I called them and the agent said that Xfinity made a note on my debt that says that I was charged in error and did not owe the money. He told me to dispute it with Credit Mgmt since I had the letter from my bank that the charge was not valid, transcripts from the chat from my last communications with an Xfinity agent, and also the proof that Xfinity gave themselves. Well, weeks go by and now I am being told that the debt is "true and accurate".
Baloney.
I called Credit Mgmt again but the woman kept repeating the same thing that Comcast validated the debt. She completely ignored any comments I was making about all the evidence I had that said otherwise. Eventually, I told her that the balance was not going to be paid because I did not care what they found "true and accurate".
Currently, my credit score is at 755 and I've been working hard to keep it in the high 700s. Will this impact me terribly if I just ignore it?
Thank you in advance!

2024.04.08 04:03 rumplump I am 25 years old making $260K working in tech in San Francisco
Background
This is an update to the
money diary I wrote in 2022. A quick recap: I work as a data scientist, own a studio apartment in San Francisco, and am in a long-term relationship with a PhD student (25M). P and I split expenses 50/50 and don't live together yet. Since my last money diary, I was laid off but fortunately found a new role soon after. My new job pays more than my old one, but requires me to commute out of the city on most days.
Net worth
Assets - 💵 Cash $10,000
- 👵🏼 Retirement $80,000
- 📈 Brokerage $150,000
- 🪙 Government bonds $10,000
- 🏡 House $500,000
Liabilities I got a lot of questions about owning a house on my last post, but to clarify, my studio condo isn't really what most people would consider a house. It is a micro-unit (less than 300 sq. ft), which I bought in 2021 when the market was down and interest rates were at all-time lows.
💰 Total Net Worth $330,000 💰 Income
I work in tech and am on track to make $260,000 this year. This includes:
- 💵 Base salary $190,000
- 📈 RSU $40,000
- 💰 Bonus $30,000
Monthly Expenses
This includes my mortgage payment, private mortgage insurance, property taxes and HOA fees (which cover trash and water). Property tax has gone up $100/mo since I last posted.
- 🏥 Medical & insurance $100
I now have my own health, vision & dental insurance, which I pay $100/mo for.
I still buy almost all of my groceries from Costco, but the new office doesn't provide snacks or lunch so my food costs have increased substantially.
The bill usually fluctuates from $50- $100 depending on the season.
Comcast sneakily raised prices on me a few months ago, and I keep forgetting to call them... maybe this weekend.
I got an Equinox membership, which I love but lately I've been finding myself too busy and tired to go. May cancel this one soon.
I pay $25 for AMC A-list, $15 for Netflix, $11 for Spotify, $10 for Apple TV+, $10 for Apple Care+, and $6 for NYT Games monthly.
💸 Fixed Monthly Expenses $3,477 💸 What I Spent In A Week
Sunday, Day 1 - 🚌 I woke up and got ready to meet my friend for coffee on Fillmore. Took me a bit longer than expected so I texted her that I was running late and sprinted to catch the bus. Total: $2.50
- 👋 I see a guy I met at a party last year on the bus and say hello. I'm about to get off but turn to say "Nice to see you!" and in that instant I see the bus I was supposed to transfer to drive past... ugh! I end up walking six hilly blocks to the coffee shop.
- ☕️ I apologize to my friend for being late and she assures me it's fine. We place our orders and catch up on life. I get a thick cut avocado toast and spend the better part of the hour slowly sawing through it. Total: $17.28
- 📕 We pop into some stores nearby. I buy God Emperor of Dune from Green Apple Books. I've been re-reading the Dune series since the movie came out and I'm obsessed! We also walk into a makeup store where I tried to find a cleansing oil, but the shop was way too overwhelming and we leave expeditiously. Total: $19.55
- 👚My friend has to go, but it's such a beautiful sunny day and I have a strong urge to keep shopping. I hug her goodbye and call in the boyf! I try on some clothes while waiting for him to arrive. I love Ref because I've been trying to buy local lately and they're one of the few stores that stocks items made in North America. I buy a cute work top that is made in the US. Total: $73.87
- 🙋♂️The BF has arrived! I have him sniff test some shampoo from Le Labo. He likes the Rose and I like the Noir, so we buy the Noir. Apparently it's made in Canada. We walk to dipytique to try candles but end up leaving empty-handed with olfactory fatigue from all the scents. Total: $130.35
- 👖We head to rag & bone since they have a 25% off sale and American Express is offering $75 off purchases of $275 or more. The sales associate saw the number of bags I was holding and beelined toward me, offering help and water. I was hoping some of their pieces would be made in the country since their marketing emphasizes New York so heavily, but every single thing in that store was made in China. The two jeans I picked did fit my bf wonderfully, though... I struggle for a minute then decide we should get them since it's hard to find things that fit him well. He promises to check Todd Shelton for similar jeans and we'll return these if that works out. Total: $369.06
- 📲We take the bus back and I look for some black jeans to go with my new work top. I find a decent pair on MOTHER and place the order online. Total: $269.39
- 🌮 P whips up this black bean recipe he found on Instagram. It's deliciously filling and has become a staple for us. We eat it with toast and an avocado spread. Yum!
- 👫 I lay down, belly full and tired from all the walking. P and I are talking about our day when the conversation turns more serious. We usually have a "State of the Relationship" on the 1st of every month but decide to do it a day early since why not? We have a productive conversation reflecting on the past month, touching on our recent vacations, income disparity and plans to move in together after P graduates. We end up cuddling and falling asleep soon after.
Daily total: $882.00 Monday, Day 2 - ⏰ I wake up at 6:30 to kick off some Spark jobs. I'm really hoping they'll run before my 1:1 with my manager. I join some other meetings and leave them running in the background. P leaves for campus.
- 🍝 I pop some leftover takeout into the oven on low. There's no time for preheating, I need to join the 1:1.
- 💾 Nothing has finished running but thankfully my manager is understanding and offers tips to improve the performance of my code. Our call runs way over and my food burns in the oven. I dig up some week old leftovers and eat those instead. Definitely questionable but I gotta get back to work.
- 🏎️ My neighbor, who has recently modified his car to be super loud, revs his engine and then floors it just outside my window. His tires squeal as they turn onto the main road. I grit my teeth and Google whether it's against the law to modify cars like this. It looks like it might be but there's nowhere to report it and I don't want to be a Karen, so... sigh.
- 🧹 I take a break from work around 6 and clean up the house, do the dishes and swiffering the floor.
- 🍕P comes over and we both feel like having pizza tonight. Sadly our favorite topping (pineapple) has expired in the fridge. We make a quick trip to Safeway. It's a clear day in SF and the sunset is breathtaking. I take some photos while P shops, the views here never get old. He pays and drives us back. Total: $0.00
- 📺 P makes the sauce and assembles the pizza. He puts Kim's Convenience on the TV and cooks while I get some more work in.
- 📖 After dinner, I get into bed and spend some time scrolling on my phone. I recently learned that my company offers a $5k stipend annually for education and want to see if I can squeeze a master's degree out of that. I am shocked to discover that most reputable schools charge $30-60k per year for tuition. I throw the idea out and go to sleep.
Daily total: $0.00 Tuesday, Day 3 - ☕️ I wake up around 7 and start getting ready for work. Then it's time to make a honey cinnamon latte: I grind my beans, pull an espresso shot, steam milk and add in the honey cinnamon syrup I made a few days ago. The syrup was inspired by Dune, where coffee is made with melange and is described as having a rich cinnamon smell. I love it!
- 🏆 P wakes up and we play some NYT games together - Wordle, the Mini, and Spelling Bee, which has been our favorite lately. We get to Genius level and then head out.
- 🚗 P drops me off at the company shuttle stop at 9, where I brace myself for a long ride. My commute takes anywhere from 60-90 minutes. I usually spend this time working on my laptop, but the wi-fi is too weak to do any data intensive work. I reply to e-mails, messages, and build the skeleton of an upcoming presentation.
- 🥗 I make it just in time to join an in-person meeting, and then work at my desk for the rest of the day. I have a breakthrough on the task I'm working on, and take lunch at my desk so I can keep focusing.
- 🚏I take the shuttle back home at 3pm, it is absolutely packed today. I end up sitting next to a larger man who has folded the table in to create more room, blocking the cupholder. I put my cup on the flat part of the table right as the bus starts, and spill water all over myself. Great.
- 📲 The ride takes just over 90 minutes. I try to work but the space is cramped and I give up after a while. I ended up spending most of the time texting my friend from college who is a Zionist and with the news from Israel today, our conversation is contentious. I leave the conversation feeling upset and neither of us change our minds about anything.
- 📧 I have more work to do, but I can't quite focus. I chow down on some fried potato snacks, swiffer the floor, and decide to e-mail my congresswoman and the senate candidates about supplying weapons to Israel.
- 💻 If I put it off any longer I'll be up all night, so I get to work. There are a lot of new tools and software for me to get used to at this job, so I'm slow at everything. I'm afraid my manager is going to think I'm dumb, but it's just taking me a while to learn new keyboard shortcuts, syntax, and little things like that.
- 🍔 P gets back and he's brought a Chick Fil A burger, a cookies & creme milkshake, AND my favorite Lays chips. I love this man so much. We bask in our riches and I squeeze in a little more work before going to bed.
Daily total: $0.00 Wednesday, Day 4 - ☕️ I sleep in a little, rolling out of bed at 9:30 to make my latte before walking to the shuttle stop. I do some work in on the ride. Unfortunately there's quite a bit of traffic and I'm ten minutes late to my first meeting of the day. Thankfully it's just a 1:1 with a nice coworker of mine, and she is pleased with the work so far.
- 💻 I get into focus mode and start along the direction we discussed in the meeting. I'm hungry but forgot to pack lunch this morning and don't want to pay for something at the cafe. I eat some snacking mozzarella I had thrown in my backpack a few days ago... probably safe, right? It smelled and tasted fine.
- 🇵🇸 I notice internal company website is featuring a 2:1 match on donations to Gaza. I donate to World Central Kitchen, still thinking about the conversation I had yesterday. Total: $100
- 💁🏻♂️ My manager asks me how things are going and I share my work so far. He points out a few numbers that look odd and I agree to spend some time looking into them. We discuss an upcoming presentation and split up work on the slides.
- 🚌 I take the first shuttle back to San Francisco because I'm getting hungry. Unfortunately for me, the bus driver takes a wrong turn in the city and ends up back on the highway at peak commute time. It takes over two hours in total to get home and I am ravenous.
- 🍿 I devour a range of snacks at home including popcorns, oreos, cheese, olives, crackers, and several tangerines. Girl dinner!
- 📊 I check my phone and see a reply to the thread - my manager's posted his half of the slides. Damn it, I thought that was a task for tomorrow. I spent the next three hours putting mine together - they're complex charts and I almost make a few errors entering the numbers in manually, so I end up writing a script to automate the inputs. I finish around 11pm and schedule the attachment to be sent at 6:02am tomorrow, so people don't think I worked too late.
Daily total: $100.00 Thursday, Day 5 - 🚌 Today's an early day. I pack a few snacks, grab my latte, and get on the shuttle at 8 something. I try to work but end up falling asleep for most of the ride.
- 🏢 Thursdays are my most meeting-heavy days, I walk back and forth between conference rooms talking to people for most of the day. Just when I think it's all over, my manager puts some time on my calendar to follow up about the last meeting.
- 📋 Thankfully he just wanted to give me some positive feedback and outline the next steps. We end the call and I walk over to the shuttle.
- 🚌 I catch up on e-mails, text friends, and play NYT games on the shuttle ride. Traffic is average but the hill from the bus stop to my apartment feels steeper than usual. I really need to get myself back in the gym regularly.
- 📱I call my little brother, who'll be finishing his freshman year in college soon. He's gotten into bodybuilding lately and tells me about his routine. The conversation leaves me feeling a little sentimental. I can't believe he's grown up so fast!
- 🧹 I embark on a deep clean of the house, especially the fridge and closet. There's a couple things in the back of the fridge that have gotten really gross and moldy, and I curse myself for letting it get so bad as I take the compost out. Once I'm done it looks so much better, with veggies organized and greens placed in clear mason jars filled with water. I light a candle and lie down.
- 🍛 P gets back late after working out, he's tired and hungry and has brought all our laundry. It's almost midnight but our favorite Indian place is still open, so we order some chicken tikka masala. I put the laundry away neatly in the closet while we wait for it to get delivered. Total: $37.89
- 📱 We chow down while watching some TikToks. It's past midnight when we finish eating so there's a new Spelling Bee out. We get into bed and play until we fall asleep.
Daily total: $37.63 Friday, Day 6 - 💻 I'm so glad today is a WFH day, I am tired of the commute. I join all my meetings in my PJ pants and a sweater. P leaves for campus.
- ✍️ My manager and I chat over Slack in the afternoon, and agree to catch up on the work on Monday. That kills my motivation for the rest of the day and I start handling some administrative tasks while getting ready to log off.
- 🩺 I'm reviewing my pre-tax deductions and thinking about what to use my LP FSA on. A quick Google shows that I could use it on expenses associated with wisdom tooth removal (which I might have to do soon) or LASIK. I've never really considered LASIK before but after seeing the success rates I start feeling like I should do it. One quick surgery and I never have to wear contacts or glasses again - sounds pretty sweet to me.
- 🏥 I go down a rabbit hole reading about the types of laser eye surgery - LASIK, PRK, and LE. I set up free consultations with well-regarded surgeons in the area and reach out to a university about an upcoming clinical trial. The trial seems promising, testing a laser that's already been approved in Europe and Asia, and if selected, the procedure would be free. I hope I get selected!
- 📺 I watch some videos of the surgery. It's actually really freaky watching the surgeon scrape a piece of someone's cornea around with a spatula. I don't want to be selected anymore. Maybe this is a bad idea. What if I go blind!?
- 💬 I text my friend in medical school who asks her friend in optometry school about the trial. After asking a few questions, they say I would be a good candidate. Encouraging but I'm still anxious and I haven't even been selected yet!
- 🥰 P gets back home and I tell him all about the surgery idea. He agrees to read the papers I've found about it and evaluate the risks. We cuddle and he watches some TV while I read God Emperor of Dune. He polishes off the Indian food and I have some chicken noodle soup.
Daily total: $0.00 Saturday, Day 7 - 🚿 It's the weekend at last! I'm so excited to lay around and do nothing. I take a long everything shower and fall back into bed.
- 🥞 P and I get up around noon and make blueberry pancakes from scratch. It's fun although neither of us can flip them in the heavy cast iron pan.
- 🧾 I spent most of the day doing my taxes before realizing that my last employer needs to send me a corrected W-2. Ugh. I'll probably have to file an extension. Or should I just use the W-2 I have and amend the return later? I decide on the latter since I'm almost done anyway.
- 🤧 It's kind of cold in the house and I start sneezing. P turns the heater on but I keep sneezing. Ughhh.
- 🎥 We had plans to see Monkey Man tonight, but I'm feeling too sick. I tell P to go on his own and cancel my AMC ticket. I'm a little disappointed to miss out but honestly more happy to go to bed early.
- 🧴 I spent some time on my a nightime routine: oil-based cleanser, water-based cleanser, retinol, hyaluronic acid. I do a quick scalp massage, put my hair in a silk bonnet, and throw on some silicone under eye patches.
- 📕I'm still sniffling but feel much better after my routine. I finish God Emperor and go to sleep before P gets home.

2024.04.06 08:42 Encryptycs Cant connect to minecraft server FAILED TO BIND WITH PORT __FIX__
For those of you that are suffering from the "FAILED TO BIND TO PORT" while trying to run your minecraft server I have found 1 temporary fix and 1 permanent fix for me currently.
STEP 1: windows + r and type regedit, and open it (just make sure you open registry editor in admin mode)
STEP 2: go to computeHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/PerfOS/Performance
STEP 3: delete Disable Performance Counters by right clicking and deleting
STEP 4: Right click the empty space under "files" so to say, and click > DWORD (32-BIT) Value
STEP 5: Type in the name as following "Disable Performance Counters" and press enter
STEP 6: if the value of the "Data" part of the right is one, change it to 0 by double clicking the name of the file and typing 0 instead of 1. If it's 0 leave as is.
7: now close it and open server.
This was my temporary fix that worked overnight for me. But the next day it wasn't working. My permanent fix I just figured out and after a total of 10 straight hours of looking yesterday then today I realized that on my portforward it had a "reserved in address". The reserved address did NOT match my ipv4 address in my command prompt. I personally have xfinity/Comcast so what I had to do was type 10.0.0.1 into a Google browser and go to the website. For the username put admin and the password is password. This is set by default. When you get in click the connection panel on the left side of the screen or press view connected devices near the bottom right. Then go to whatever device you are using for your sever and click edit. Then click "Reserved IP" then change your ip to what it says for your "reserved address" when you port forwarded. Click save and it should work. If it doesn't. That means THERE IS A DIFFFERENT DEVICE THAT IS USING THAT RESERVED IP. This is why the sever cmd said something else is using the port. So you have to go to everyone of your other devices and check what their reserved IP is. When you find the one that has been using it change it to something that wasn't to much higher or smaller of a number so you don't go out of the range. For example: ip is 10.0.0.123 and the range is 10.0.0.100-150 so if you put 10.0.0.151 or higher it will not work. But make sure whatever you do put doesn't match any of the other devices. When you do that go back and switch your devices IP. Click save and you shouldn't get an error. Next just close it out and start up your sever.
Oh also if you don't know the ip to give to your friends look up "my ipv4" then click whatever link and copy the ipv4 address and put the port number after for example random ipv4 74.106.13.64 then put a :25565 after it. =74.106.13.64:25565.
I really hope this finds someone that needs it and can save them hours and hours of work just to find absolutely nothing on it. Sorry for such the long post.

2024.04.04 17:33 r2c1 Leviton Smart Load Center connection issues
Overnight I received a couple dozen connection error messages from Leviton's load center monitoring service. What's going on, Leviton?
https://imgur.com/a/Td8eGKD In the last few months I've noticed that I'll receive one or two every week or so. The data at
https://my.leviton.com/ has good so I've just interpreted those emails as Leviton deploying updates to their back-end services or related infrastructure. Maybe some devs had fun last night?
In case there were any doubts, our home ISP connection to Comcast was stable at the time-- no reported WAN errors from our pfSense router or error messages directly from our ISP. This seems to suggest that either the Leviton Smart Load Center in our panel was having issues or Leviton's backend services (which our load center is connecting to) were having issues.
These emails used to never happen so they're actually a step in the right direction! Previously the smart center would go offline for weeks/months before I noticed and manually reset its breaking meaning I lost month's worth of data-- beyond frustrating to lose that much data. Thankfully Leviton finally updated their load center firmware to be more resilient to whatever was previously causing it to drop offline.
Update 4/5: The number of emails have increased. Leviton support says "we have not had any other reports of this issue." Maybe my smart load center is going bad? Update 4/11: Leviton support is supposedly sending me a new firmware update (presumably with some form of diagnostics/telemetry enabled). At the same time I'm wondering if my home's Wi-fi is going bad and that the load center is defaulting to it versus the Ethernet it's plugged into-- that would explain the random connection issues.

2024.04.04 03:29 fkn-svg Comcast Bridge Mode with Ubiquiti Ruins Everything
I recently purchased a Ubiquity UDR and it is amazing. The setup is fantastic and I already purchased one of their little Expresses and a PoE switch for some testing.
The issue is, I still need to use my Comcast XFinity as my modem or they will charge me if I go over a certain data cap (Comcast sucks). If I leave it as is, so with Bridge Mode disabled, it is acting as both a router and a modem and I am double NATed. Any traffic outside my network has to come through the Xfinity Modem (73.x.x.x.) and then that traffic is NATed going to my UDR's network (10.0.x.x.) then from my UDR (192.168.x.x.) that traffic is NATed to my actual device (192.168.x.x.). If I enable Bridge Mode and disable the routing functionality so it is only a modem, my internet works great for about two hours, then it drops off. It will come back up in about 10 minutes, apparently randomly.
I found an article that said it could be the ARP Cache Timeout, so I changed that to 30s on my UDR. I understand ARP as mapping changing IP addresses to physical static MAC addresses. And I understand ARP Cache as a record of those mappings. Why would changing the ARP Cache Timeout fix my issue? Does my Comcast Xfinity Modem have its own ARP Cache and it communicates that ARP Cache with my UDR? And if they get out of sync do strange things happen? Why and how? Here is the article I am referring to
https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/your-home-network/bridge-mode-causing-errors/602db0a3c5375f08cd34ce41 . Why did this fix their issue with packet loss? Does the UDR assume it knows the route somewhere and then when it communicates that with the Comcast Modem it says "no"?
Can anyone help me understand what is going on? Or simplify what I am saying? Also this is a dumb question, but what is my gateway in the scenarios above?
I am more trying to understand what is going on than a solution, but I would love a solution if anyone has one. I want to test some stuff with port forwarding and I won't be able to do that with this setup.

2024.03.28 22:39 Illustrious_Dig5319 Am I the only one that thinks the xfinity website is horrid?
Every time I go onto
xfinity.com to change my plan or see the options, I get an error that suggests I call and speak to someone. This happens if I want to price an expansion of a service or remove one, which is really frustrating.
I really need to change my plan and remove some services that are unused but I can't even get a price online as to what it would cost.
It's 2024, can't xfinity/comcast build a working website that actually assists customers?
Is there a better route than spending time on hold during a phone call?

2024.03.24 19:17 HonestSpaceStation Help getting dual WAN LAG working
I just setup my new Omada system yesterday, and I'm loving it, but I have 2 things I'm hoping I can get this community's help with. Here's how it's configured:
1.2G Comcast cable internet -> Arris SB8200 -> ER707-M2 router -> unmanaged 2.5G PoE switch -> {OC200 controller, 2 EAP670 APs, a bunch of other wired LAN devices}
Here are my 2 issues:
- Because my internet is 1.2G, I want to get LAG working to take full advantage of the speeds. I've got the modem connected to 2.5G WAN1 and WAN/LAN3 of the router. In the OC200 interface, I have both enabled as WAN ports. I also have LAG enabled in the Arris modem interface (see question 2 for more on this). However, my logs are filling up with errors about WAN1: "failed to obtain the IP address for unknown because no response from the server". Here are some screenshots that may or may not be useful:
- Not sure if it's related to issue 1, but I'm unable to access the modem's web interface. The request times out. This particular modem is accessed at http://192.168.100.1/, but it just doesn't seem to resolve. To log in and turn LAG on, I had to bypass the router and connect the modem directly to my computer.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should do to fix these issues? I really appreciate any help!
Some more stuff that may be useful:
- I'm running the latest firmware on all devices (including the controller).
- Most of my config is unchanged from the defaults.
