2024.05.15 04:28 PristineTry630 rs422 question controller/worker?

rs422 question controlleworker?
Howdy. I've setup 2 ESP32s to communicate via UART. I trying to learn more about comm protocols and build projects. My first steps have worked out well. I am playing with different setups. For giggles/fun/STEM inspiration I want to run a 50 foot cable in the office and send 'hello' from one to the other.
My baby steps:
I started by using 1 jumper cable shared between each GPIO pin of the esp2 and esp1 - it all works great.
I then tried using separate jumper cables shared on a bread board - it all works great.
I tried using an rs422 module. Here's where it got interesting to me.
I am hooking them up following this doc/guide/pic:
https://esp32io.com/tutorials/esp32-rs422
https://esp32io.com/images/tutorial/esp32-rs422-module-wiring-diagram.jpg
  1. If I connect the brick power (5V) /ground on esp2 :
esp2 and esp1 are both GOOD to send/rec data - I can see test messages coming in. Life is good.
  1. If I connect the brick power (5V) /ground on esp1:
esp2 gets garbage:
Sent: hello from esp-2
Received: 000000000000000000000000f0f800c0000000000000000000000000000000000108c00c0802000002900000000200000280000020c000000f000e008000000201008100e20002e000321c1e20d80000c00042720000000200000002003203007200480000720020060020e0000f00030090000002000000 - (2024, 5, 14, 22, 21, 57, 1, 135)
While esp1 send/rec just fine:
Received: hello from esp-2 - (2000, 1, 1, 0, 0, 11, 5, 1)
Sent: hello from esp-1
Here's my code on each:
import machine
import time
uart = machine.UART(2, baudrate=9600, tx=13, rx=14)
board_id = "esp-2" # Replace with your desired board ID
while True:
data = "hello from " + board_id
uart.write(data.encode())
print(f"Sent: {data}")
time.sleep(1) # Delay between transmissions
rx_data = uart.read()
if rx_data:
try:
print(f"Received: {rx_data.decode()} - {time.localtime()}")
except UnicodeError:
print(f"Received: {rx_data.hex()} - {time.localtime()}")
I checked the connections - they seem tight and as per the tutorial. Is this b/c there is some masteslave situation I am not aware of ? I checked the MAX490 datasheet but did not glean anything. The modules are these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C1C3VHZW/:
Here's a pic of the setup, if it helps:
https://preview.redd.it/3g2u1al34i0d1.jpg?width=3523&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ce997977877dd85ff60688e5a781ede80ad1c76f
I have tried to move the 5v/ground power a few times to make it is reproducible. It is every time.
Thanks!

2024.05.15 04:24 BiggestCellar4 USI Commercial Insurance Career Track

Has anyone known someone who's gone through this program? Or have firsthand experience? Another member in this sub messaged it to me and I realized I have seen a handful of listings for it job boards before
https://www.usi.com/siteassets/images/about/developing-talent-and-careers/early-talent/commercial-insurance-career-track-program_2024.pdf?v=4928ac
I graduate in December as a Finance major with a minor in Insurance and Risk Management. I will have my ARM completed then as well. I'm seeing lots of "entry level" roles but know I don't want to end up in auto or health claims if I can avoid it because I know myself and anticipate getting bored of redundancy. I'm looking at openings from UW trainee to Acc management trainees. I understand I may have some school type knowledge but I'm ready to get started and focus in on soaking up as much knowledge as I can. I think E&S would be fun to work in with the uniqueness I may see. My non insurance career choice would be sales so I also have interest in working as a producer or similar role one day.
A mentor who I've had conversations with through a mentorship program at the university has recommended that I be less concerned on what I'm doing and what the title is at first, but try to get a feel for what organization will really be able to help me build the knowledge and teach me, which makes a program like this attractive.

2024.05.15 04:21 WanderingLust6843 37 [M4F] #Chicago or online - Neurodivergent Geek Looking to Build Meaningful Connections

Hiya,
I'm a geeky neurodivergent type of human, and I'm looking to find someone who I can laugh, flirt and generally share experiences and conversations with. I live in Chicago, but don't mind connecting online; I've had some very meaningful friendships and relationships virtually, and I value them a lot.
I tend to get along best with people who can talk about pretty much anything, can appreciate trashy movies/tv and who have a good deal of passion for something. Also, people who are at least a little weird.I've been polyamorous for 12 years and have been in a few different configurations of relationships...from having entirely separate relationships to being involved in multiple triads.I'm looking for something meaningful, though that can take a lot of different shapes.
That being said, I tend to like connections where I can just feel comfortable being myself, we share some interests and can talk with equal ease about deep and meaningful stuff, and really stupid silly kinds of things. I also like dynamics where we inspire each other to learn and grow, and can be equal parts sexy and ridiculous.
I'm a bit of an awkward homebody who goes out for movies and theater on occasion. I consume a ton of different kinds of media....I especially love bad horror movies but I'll watch anything from cooking shows to Marvel and everything in between. I also spend a lot of my time playing video games (or board games when there's people to play with).
When I do go out, I like trying out food, drinks and spending time + sharing experiences with the people I'm close to. Oh, and I can't say no to a good espresso martini.
Work-wise, I have a relatively laid back marketing writing job at a software company. I used to lead a marketing team, but went through really severe burn out along with a pretty bad mental health episode, so I generally shifted my priorities away from work stuff and more into building friendships and connecting more with the people in my life.
Anyway, I'd love to have someone to connect with! If you're interested, send me a message and tell me a few things about you.

2024.05.15 03:35 PhantomTricks 24 [M4F] NoVA/DMV -An Optimistic Post

Hello everyone and welcome to my post. In the following few paragraphs, you'll learn a few basics about myself as well as what I'm looking for in a partner. If any of it interests you, please don't hesitate to message me or start a chat. I look forward to hearing from all of you!
To begin with a little about myself, I'm 24M and currently living in NoVA for just over 1.5 years. Before that, I spent most of my life in Massachusetts but eventually ran out of new things to do there. Now, I work in AI research and spend most of my free time either playing board games or exploring nature. I also love to travel and see the world whenever possible. My last trip was to Portugal (pictures available) which was such a beautiful country with such delicious food. Next up in May is Croatia where I plan to visit tons of national parks, especially the Plitvice Lakes (google it, they're gorgeous). Also, one cool and unique facts about me is that I have aphantasia which means I can't see images in my head. Oh and physically, I'm 5'8 with an average build and dark brown hair and eyes.
As for what I'm looking for, I really don't have many expectations in terms of appearance. By far the most important thing to me is that we are able to share each other's hobbies and enjoy time together. For example, I'd love someone I can take on hikes before ending off the day with a board game night at home. And, of course, I'd be interested in sharing and trying your hobbies as well. I also really value communication and people who can keep a conversation going in person and over text.
If you're still interested and made it this far, I've got a LIMITED TIME OFFER for you. In exchange for three unique facts about yourself, I will reply with three pet pictures. These pictures are guaranteed to be extra adorable and come with a 100% money-back guarantee if they don't make you smile.

2024.05.15 03:34 GrandSupermarket4024 Used BLP Scam Attempt

I just wanted to pass along a scam that someone tried to pull on SideLineSwap for a Bushnell Launch Pro. He listed it for sale for 2000.00 and the location of Georgia with the user name being Basiladze9910. The unit was listed as barely used with a gold membership lasting till 10/24. I asked him several questions, one of them being does the unit have club data activated to which he answered yes. Something seemed a little too good to be true but seeing as how the deal was on SidelineSwap which I have used before I made an offer of 1750.00 which he accepted. 2 days later I received a tracking notice stating the package would arrive between 9am and 11am 5/13. Needless to say I was looking forward to getting the unit.
The morning of 5/13 arrived and things started going south. I checked the tracking number while doing some work in the yard and it showed that the package had been delivered but that the package was left at the front desk and signed for by Mike but no address was shown as to where it was delivered. I immediately messaged the seller via SidelineSwap about something being wrong and then got on the phone to UPS. I was informed that the package was to delivered to an address in the same town as me but I was not listed on the package as being the recipient. I also was told the address where the package originated from, which I googled and came up with the Amtrak Station in Atlanta Georgia. So I emailed SidelineSwap about what was going on, I also messaged the seller via SidelineSwap chat. The seller responded that the tracking number was incorrect and gave me a second tracking number which now showed the package to arrive on 5/17 before noon the twist now being the package was coming from California. The issue became that the 72 hours clock on SidelineSwap to release the money to the seller started ticking since the package was now listed as being delivered. If I did nothing and waited the money would have been released 5/16 because the seller did not have the listed changed to reflect that the package was still in transit. So I went to the SLS page and selected the option to dispute the transaction.
So now the seller starts messaging me and accusing me of trying to scam him and that he wants his money and he needs his money and why am I doing this? Please don’t scam him. The whole time I have been emailing SidelineSwap anytime I received any more information from the seller or from UPS. SidelineSwap emailed me and said that I had three options. The first was wait till the package arrived and see if it contained the launch monitor and accept it and release the funds. The second was to open the package and if it was not a launch monitor or if there was a problem with it, then I could request a refund. the third and final option was to refuse the package and have it sent back to the seller I had made up my mind to refuse the package. I called UPS to see if I could refuse the package while it was in transit. I gave the agent the tracking number and was told by UPS that the package associated with that number was not coming to my address and also that I was not the recipient listed on the package. I immediately emailed this information to SidelineSwap and I also messaged the seller about what UPS had told me. The seller proceeded to message me back saying that the first tracking number was correct and that the unit was delivered to my address and he wanted his money.
I was emailing SidelineSwap the entire time and I informed SidelineSwap that I was going to dispute the charge with PayPal and my credit card company. I started the claim with PayPal, giving them a description of what occurred and screenshots of the entire message session with the seller and emails from SidelineSwap. About an hour later I was notified by SidelineSwap that the transaction was canceled and also received verification from PayPal that the charge was refunded.
Like I said, in the beginning, this seemed a little too good to be true, and as it turns out that was the case. The only reason I attempted to purchase this BLP was because it was on SidelineSwap and I know there is buyer protection. If this had been some sort of private sale there is no way that I would have gone through with it because there was no way I could have protected my interests. After it was over, I tried to figure out how this person thought they could get away with this. I could not come up with anything other than the fact that the person is stupid or was hoping that I was even stupider than he was. What I did find to be very curious though is how this seller was able to get 2 tracking numbers for 2 different packages coming to my town. I am sorry that this is so long and confusing, but I wanted to get the message out there of this type of a scam. Right after all this was over I went on a simulator message board and someone had made a post about purchasing a BLP from Facebook marketplace for the same amount of money coming from the same initial location as the one I tried to buy. I related my some of my experience in this case to that person because I do not want to see anybody get taken advantage of and get ripped off.

2024.05.15 03:28 karatemnn Are there any posts from film message boards you still remember and laugh at or find so well written you'll always keep it in your mind?? (any site)

still to me the funniest message board posts i've read were from two sites. the controversial AINTITCOOL dot com website back in the day with the premiere of THE FACULTY and in the review of the film by the extremely controversial HARRY KNOWLES ... the message board let him have it (this was in 1998)
The Tank @$$ line i still think of ...
Also on the gorezone dot net site, there were always discussions lambasting director Victor Salva (rightfully so) for his kiddyfiddling ways and in a post about "Jeepers Creepers" some one posted that Salva would be making a sequel to his film "CLOWNHOUSE" with a movie called "BUTTHOUSE starring Michael Jackson"
very juvenile humor, but I laugh whenever I think of these

2024.05.15 03:06 Purple_Tuxedo The Epic of Clyde: The Nuh-Uh King [VERY LONG]

I wasn't entirely sure where to chronicle the wonderous tale of Clyde, because this spans multiple websites including reddit. Not enough drama localized here for it to be subredditdrama , and not enough on the Discord for it to be considered discordhorrorstories, and not enough TTRPG for rpghorrorstories.
Mods, feel free to direct me to the proper place if this isn't it. Anyway, on with the disaster.
Our tale begins on a subreddit in a semi-niche community of the RP side of Reddit, which I won't name because of Rule 9. It's a medieval-themed board where you can post memes if you want, but is mainly known for it's "encounter posts" and long, long chains of IC conversations between the regulars of the sub. I myself love the place, my Doctor Who OC (isn't relevant to the tale so I'll keep info on that brief) is one such regular, having decided to become that planet's Doctor stand-in. Long irrelevant story. Check my comment history, I'm all over that sub. Any references to that character are just to provide examples for how things work there.

Some background to understand the landscape:

Character creation is pretty lax there. One doesn't necessarily have to be a knight, (such as my character for example) but most people choose to be. It's gotten some controversies in the past concerning technology limitations to some extent, mainly asking folks to flavor things fantasy-style, such as my character being viewed as an eccentric artificer who lives in a box of miracles. A phrase I see commonly for when people ask questions about this is something like this:
"You can have an F-22 Raptor, but it cannot be an F-22 Raptor. Perhaps a Da-Vinci style flying machine propelled by magic to have comparable speed instead?"
Stuff like that. The community doesn't want to stifle creativity, but also don't want people to ruin the DnD-style universe with technology far outstripping the era (hence why my character must be secretive about his Tardis; Meta-perspective it's to avoid violating the tech rule more than it already does by nature). There's also a no-NSFW/ERP rule (unless its in DMs), which will come into play later.
Due to rulings like this, it has the obvious problem of how to settle things like duels, or how various people groups see each other IC. This caused a mutual agreement over on the discord to have the combatants agree on the terms of the duel beforehand, either in DMs or OOC somewhere. Stuff like, HP per character, highest D20 wins/best of 3, or first to Nat 20. Alternatively, self-hosted Encounter Posts can have their own rules, which must be outlined in the comment section by OP. Here's an example stat block from one such encounter:
https://preview.redd.it/xlo49rq4ih0d1.png?width=1122&format=png&auto=webp&s=dd7c9908af081c25953ebebcb1ed1a3a40c04eb6

Now, where does Clyde come into play?

Once upon a time, there was a user I'll call Clyde. Clyde is effectively the most anime character of all anime characters I've ever seen in my time in that community. To put it bluntly, he refuses to lose. I don't mean like he's very determined or super good at the combat, or a clever RP-er. I mean, his characters (of which the Tupperbox list on the Discord is FULL of, which will come up later), have miscellaneous excuses as to why they can literally never lose any engagement. Not one. Hence the nickname, "The Nuh-Uh King"
Here's a word for word excerpt from the Bio of one of his characters. Keep in mind, he's no troll. I've talked to him in VC before. This is completely, unironically, serious.
She was also born with several vampiric abilities yet none of the weaknesses.
I have plenty of more snippets just like this if not worse, including one that I couldn't relocate to post here that in summary said "can cast Wish as a Cantrip" (Clyde typically prefers to use DnD for organization of his very overpowered moveset.) or claiming to be level 50, despite DnD maxing at 20.
Note: Clyde insists on DnD-puritanism in his interactions, only to immediately violate his own rules.
By far the most cursed of his lineup is the Golden Half-Dragon. This character supposedly can predict the opponent's moves before they make them. Most Encounter Hosts try to make him roll for this, but he insists it's an innate ability that doesn't have to be rolled, and he has "+30 on every roll" (despite the Encounters not typically allowing modifiers) so he cannot fail anyway. Additionally, there is no Saving Throw for the opponent. Using the same justification, you cannot circumvent it. It's always a Critical hit, and he flaunts this totally fair ability to one-shot anyone and anything, including Lovecraftian Elder Gods (We have a Warlock or two who have dark pacts with Outer Beings)
Clyde seems to have no concept of fun for people other than himself. There's been several incidents of him joining other people's threads, of course one-shotting their instance of the Encounter and declaring himself the winner. People often just ignore him, but sometimes people will try to argue with him about it, and he gets very defensive and picks a fight with the person who won't just let him steamroll their combat. Not to mention, the hypocrisy can be smelled a MILE away.
Here's another lovely message in one such argument. TLDR-ed because there was a bunch of anime exposition that I'm not gonna make you read.
"I snap my fingers and the entire army falls dead, (TW: Violence) their heads severed from their bodies in a fraction of an instant with my blade."
The person protests about ruining the fun (Encounter involved liberating an occupied village by stealth or counter-raiding or assassination of the General, a boss. It was open ended, but they asked for creativity in the post. You were allowed to challenge the army, but you couldn't John Wick them, the Host asked that a Tactical victory be done through soldiers of the Commenter's own). They argued that it was overpowered to do that alone and not very fun to host. Posts a hypothetical of what if someone with the same unimaginably powerful level of a character was able to take down his character in one hit and received this as a response:
"If I ever meet a character that strong I won't consider them canon nor interact with them. My characters are too powerful and they can't lose so it wouldn't happen anyway."
Once more, this was without /s, this was without a hint of irony. I've seen trolls do something similar before, but no one has gone to a practically cartoonish level with it. Everyone is pretty tired of it, and he's been warned by the Mods of both the Subreddit and the Discord multiple times, which brings us to Part 3:

Clyde Joins the Discord

Oh, boy. THIS is a story. So the Discord has several separate sections, places where people can interact OOC and talk about games or other interests outside of Text RP. They also have threads for IC stuff if, say, your character wanted to rent a room at the local Tavern, or conduct business at the marketplace, or visit a shop run by someone else.
The moment he discovered that a Discord existed, the Tupperbox creation channel was absolutely flooded with his characters, and ALL of them are almost impressively overpowered in some form or fashion. I won't go into detail, but it's a long list.
Pretty quickly, a nasty habit of "ghost-pinging" or @ ing someone repeatedly and then deleting the messages developed. One of his warnings was due to this habit, and to his credit it happens less often now, but if you don't respond for more than a minute after he continues, the spam begins until you return. Now, I understand sending a reminder to be sure they remember the interaction/figure out if they're ghosting, but this is insane.
The other warning so far was his rampant violation of the No-ERP rule. I'm friends with one of the mods on the Discord, and they showed me a thread of him writing a lengthy scene between two of his Tuppers in the public channels, after being told he couldn't. I've seen a lot worse, but it wasn't pleasant to read over regardless.
This adventure is still ongoing, I'll be sure to post more Clyde Stories if you liked this one. Why he hasn't been banned from both yet, I have no idea, but it makes for amazing tales.

2024.05.15 02:38 BelleofBlue Should I shoot my shot?

So I’ve decided not to use dating apps anymore and just work with whatever network of people comes my way or consider any of the men I already know.
The other day I thought what if I sent a text to my former fitness trainer since he’s in my contacts, at least from my point of view we got along pretty well and for the most part enjoyed conversing with one another.
But I’m nervous to. Idk what he thinks of me at all. I mean when he was my trainer of course he has to be professional and he’s already a friendly person (one time I got him info dumping how much he loves board games and how good he is at them so he definitely doesn’t mind chatting) but I never got the vibe there would be any possible chance he’d find me interesting. He’s shared things about his family life, it wasn’t anything serious but does that mean someone feels comfortable with you? Well we don’t fully know each other so idk
It’s funny my whole life I avoided making movies or showing interest in fear they don’t like me. And like what if he’s already talking to someone?
I saw him recently in person but it was small talk about the gym.
Btw the only way for me to contact him is through text. He doesn’t have a membership of the gym I use to go to.
If I do message him, idk what to say…last text I sent him was a meme that related to him and he found it funny.
I’m probably overthinking this lol

2024.05.15 02:35 Busy_Sherbert_5303 are servers really this lenient on matchmaking or am i just unlucky?

my duo and i were doing a veil voyage because i just became pirate legend not too long ago. (yay!!!) when we had progressed to the center fort we noticed a tier 5 reaper emissary headed our way, so we readied the cannons and positioned ourselves so we were ready to fight. about a minute into the fight one of the players boards, tries to lower the anchor, and kill us with no avail. however, i noticed before he died that this guy was a golden skeleton. keep in mind, neither me or my duo has ever played hourglass. it was safe to say the fight was over as quickly as it started. the golden skeleton sent the standard "*Rolls on deck laughing." messages but the text to speech had a french accent. (i'm from the US and my ping was and has been unusually high recently). a little confused as to how we got out into a server with these guys 🧐

2024.05.15 02:00 PrioritizeSleep 26 [F4M] U.S. (Central Time) F is for friends who do stuff together - U is for you and me - N is for anywhere and anytime at all - Down here in the deep blue sea

Why shouldn’t you trust trees? They seem shady, but you can trust me!
I am a college graduate and work full-time, so at times, my responses may be slow. I will always try to respond as quickly as possible. My job does require long hours but one of my current goals is to achieve a better work-life balance. I usually watch a movie/show/YouTube video every night and if we hit it off after chatting for a bit (Chats preferred over Messages), watching something together sounds really fun. I don't have many forms of social media, so to move the conversation away from Reddit my only other options are WhatsApp and Telegram, or we could just text like the good ole’ days. P.S. I don’t use Snapchat and will not download it.
My hobbies include:
Now, this part splits into two, the infamous what I am looking for (DISCLAIMER: I believe that relationships start from a great friendship):
Friendship:
I am looking for someone older (preferably between 30-40) as I tend to be able to communicate more effectively with those who are older. I reside in the U.S. and would like to chat with others in the U.S. as well to not have to work around too many different time zones. I would like to have a conversation flowing throughout the day as opposed to one message a day. Also, wouldn't it be great to be able to send and receive funny TikToks throughout the day? (Extra Bonus Points for iPhone users. iMessage and FaceTime are both fantastic) Someone with similar core values as myself. I value honesty and would much rather have a brutally blunt answer than sugarcoat something. I don't believe in lying even if it is just what most consider "a little white lie". I am an extremely motivated and goal-oriented person and would hope that my friends are passionate about whatever it is that they want to pursue. With that being said, to put it bluntly, I am not looking for someone who plays video games and watches anime for hours on end.
Relationship (take everything above + some extra fluff):
If you are interested, please send me an introduction about yourself as opposed to “hey” or “hi”. I will not respond to a lacking introduction. A great conversation is a two-way street.
Note 1: Due to the number of creeps on here, please send a picture of yourself, fully clothed, I may add, so I can ensure you’re not an 80-year-old man looking for some adult time. I will also send one in return.
Note 2: Some unpopular Reddit opinions; I am not into video games or anime (old-school Nintendo games and board games can be fun though). Politically, I lean right. I do not believe a person’s political views should be a deal-breaker in friendship but then again, this is Reddit.

2024.05.15 01:13 vrhelmutt My thoughts on pizzagate

Conspiracy theories involving “elite” pedophile rings have recently been dominating social media in a disorienting frenzy. They have been around for some time but in this century rose back to popularity during the 2016 Election cycle. This crop, at least, took root with what became known as “Pizzagate.”
Promoters of that conspiracy theory in 2016 used social media platforms to make unfounded but viral allegations that Hillary Clinton and other prominent Democrats were running a pedophile ring out of the basement of a pizzeria even though that restaurant had no basement, or any ties to known politicians other than the typical flesh pressing (Phrasing I know) moments fit for a picture hung on the wall.
Since then, the dark theme of Pizzagate has found new life with permutations forming part of the #Qanon conspiracy theory, incorporated under the umbrella term “pedogate.” The gist of the #pedogate conspiracy theory is that global elites (politicians, celebrities, and wealthy businesspersons) are covertly involved in a far-reaching ring that uses young children for sexual purposes.
“What most of these conspiracy theories involve in one way or another is laying accusations of pedophilia or involvement in pedophile rings at the feet of people that they despise or hate, and during the 16’ election cycle, Democrats were a wide target for an opposing political movement that had hijacked the rival Republican party. Pizzagate originated with the “alt right” and “alt lite,” far right extremists who range from outright white supremacists to those who publicly shun racists but otherwise fall in step with their belief systems.
Pizzagate jumped from the fringes to the mainstream because as it denigrated Hillary Clinton, it sucked in supporters of then-candidate Donald Trump.
After the election all mention of pedogate seemed to be put on a simmer while other National outrages boiled over (#Covid #RussiaGate #BLM) and just like clockwork (heading into our next election cycle has been turned back up.
The pedogate conspiracy and all associated stories employ a centuries-old tactic: playing on deep-seated human anxieties by conjuring images of imperiled children, the purest and defenseless victim of any manner of injustice.
An example in the modern era of weaponized conspiracy was the satanic panic of the 1980s, in which a wave of hysteria over alleged child molestation at daycare centers swept the nation. But while that phenomenon was a moral panic attributable, at least in part, to social anxiety over white middle class women entering the work force en masse for the first time and entrusting their children to others, the current conspiracy theories about pedophile rings equate to similar propaganda. They carry a danger for stirring up violence.
If you want to elicit violent action the way to do it is through hate and fear. Once you target and label a population as pedophiles, you can do anything you like to that population with full excuse being given to the myth you’ve wrapped around it.
That’s not to say fears of child abuse or sex trafficking are unfounded. There are many as pedophilia has ancient roots and in many cases was encourage by many world cultures and religions a lot later into Civilization than we’d like to admit. The International Labor Organization reports that 25 percent of the world’s 40.3 million victims of human trafficking are children.
The most vulnerable, according to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, are migrants, runaways, the homeless, and youngsters who have been victims of violence. Despite their obsession over the topic, conspiracy followers aren’t worked up about those children who are in true harm’s way.
In the world of propaganda, it’s never about real children. Instead, it’s about what children represent. The children imperiled by conspiracy theories, in other words, are only metaphors.
Children carry a vast amount of weight in any society, but especially modern ones when they’re expected to survive past the age of five. It wasn’t as intense before the 18th century when child mortality rates were really high. They represent the future, and all that is beautiful and decent and honest in a society, because they are innocent.
For most people also, the meaning of their existence is rooted in their children. Children are eschatological, they represent death for us, and what is coming behind us after we are gone. They also represent the threat of loss, if they disappear, if they die, that is the death of society. That’s why they became so crucial and central to Cold War propaganda. The real terror of the nuclear holocaust would be the death of the children, because that’s the death of everyone.
A recent example of this is in a recent police investigation into conspiracy claims of PizzaGate style accusation of Portland’s Voodoo Doughnuts. Detectives attempted to contact the person accusing Voodoo Doughnuts on social media of running a pedophile ring. The accuser did not cooperate with investigators and it’s been documented in other coverage online that they had become agitated and accused the Police with complicity when tracked down in person, even though they were attempting to investigate.
The pendulum of conspiracy theories about systematic child abuse has swung back and forth for centuries. Examples such as blood libel, when Jewish communities were attacked over false allegations of murdering and consuming Christian children in the Middle Ages.
In Europe, During the Thirty Years War, entire villages were put to the sword because it was believed they were abusing children of the other religions.
One characteristic that helps Pizzagate-style conspiracy theories gain popularity is that they function like a puzzle game and give its audience a large level of involvement through social media.
A lot of conspiracy theories are oracular, where the information comes from one source an oracle. Then there are others where there are a few people who promote the notions, almost like gurus or a conspiracy priesthood.
With Pizzagate, it’s more of what one would call a participatory conspiracy theory. Participatory conspiracy theories lay out a scenario or situation and then they ask their audience, ‘what more can you find out about this, what more can you add?’ It turns the audience into willing participants, some knowing they are creating a destructive madlib and other (potential real victims) caking on mystical distraction to issues that have been unreported or scars that have not bee properly treated.
The thing about participatory conspiracy theories is it can really create a devoted following because it gives people something to do, it makes them feel they can solve the whole thing or uncover new aspects to it. Once you get that energy going it’s almost self-sustaining. Followers of the Qanon conspiracy theory, call themselves “bakers” because their protagonist “Q” pops up on Internet message boards and leaves “crumbs” (i.e., clues), and they are tasked with picking up the crumbs in order to solve the puzzle. (“Q” is supposed to reference the character’s government security clearance level).
*#Q followers believe an even more incoherent version of Pizzagate. This is largely a right-wing fantasy that originated in a series of incoherent posts on #4chan in 2017 by someone calling themselves #QAnon. Following on the heels of similar idiocy such as Pizzagate, it advances a fantastic web of deceit that wraps up Trumpism, deep state fearmongering, evil, satanic pedophilia rings controlled by the Democratic Party, investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 US election, the Las Vegas shooting, and New World Order paranoia into a package easily and wholeheartedly promoted by internet cesspools and far-right personalities such as Alex Jones.
The premise is that President Trump is secretly working to take down a global ring of elite, cannibalistic, satanic pedophiles. And the investigation into Russian meddling into the 2016 election, led by former FBI director Robert Mueller, is actually an investigation into the so-called “deep state”, where a cabal of evil, globalists, including Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, are responsible for everything from a global pedophile ring to the mass shooting in Las Vegas in 2017.
According to the enlightened, when Trump awkwardly took a drink from a bottle of Fiji water at a press conference in November 2017, it wasn’t because he was thirsty; it was actually a secret signal to those in the know that the annihilation of deep state pedophiles had begun (or was about to begin). Because as everyone knows, Fiji is a hot spot for child trafficking.* ( I could go on and on with this poorly thought-out shit, I will spare you )
The role the Internet and social media play in helping to spread such insanity can’t be underestimated. Just a few decades earlier, conspiracy theorists would identify each other using letters to the editor printed in newspapers and magazines. It was a lot harder to identify your fellow conspiracy theorists. You would have to physically meet to swap your stories or send letters or call. They would set up these groups that would communicate by newsletter. They would meet in a physical space, like someone’s living room.
I personally witnessed people from my childhood, dutifully photocopying newsletters they had received in the mail to give to others (Primarily at my #JW congregation, how ironic). Now obviously it can go much more quickly, because you can identity people immediately. You can quickly share ideas and the data you’ve collected.
The Internet allows such people to exist in bubbles where they rarely have their beliefs challenged. The extraordinarily polarized society we’re in right now has made people less willing to seek out other view points. Because of the internet you have less chance of doing this.
There’s very little incentive to look outside one’s own bubble once they have become invested in a conspiracy theory. Once you start to act out on those behaviors you are forced to double down by repeating the act to prove it was a just act. Eventually you get caught up in a movement that totally defines your conscious and you can’t get out of it. The second you step out of that world view your actions go back to being reprehensible.
Now the question becomes, “What’s the harm? If it sheds light on child abuse, then isn’t it still productive?” The answer in this case is a resounding NO. In my opinion and PAINFUL experience, the root cause and sustaining factors of institutionalized child sex abuse are all things that would counter your typical Conspiracy Nut’s world view, thus causing a complete blackout to the problems.
The entity taking part in the harming of children on a local and tangible level aren’t some suit and tie wearing global elitist. It’s a guidance counselor, youth pastor, unvetted young substitute teacher, aunt/uncle/cousin/neighbor.
It’s anyone who has been given routine private access to a child’s mind and body because of the social conventions that have been protected for generations by our relatives whether they themselves are guilty of abuse or not.
In all the Qanon madness I also kept very close tabs on the pending prosecution of the Boy scouts of America and never saw any widely shared memes about their involvement in the abuse syndicate.
Why is this? How is this so? Aren’t these people watching the news, seeing the court records and hearing the individual cases being brought against Scout Leaders (SOME OF WHO RAN THEIR OWN NETWORKS!!)?
When I would find mention of accusation it was met with the ever scarce “skepticism” because if the media is covering it, it must be a plot to destroy the organization. There are now non-for profit organizations setting up victim funds and protections for people to come out with their stories and somehow THIS is the fake ruse.
Some that know me know that I was a Jehovah’s Witness as a youth/teen/young adult. That chapter of my life could fill many chapters and the research on the organization, the real true black and white history of the religion would honestly surprise you. I saw what I now know was abuse, I personally experienced abuse in many forms. The perpetrators involved are either still Witnesses or are dead or have moved “away from the organization”.
One thing that was left intact in each situation was the secret that they prey on children. The parents, these organizations and the collective promise to keep up appearances are directly to blame for the suffering untold thousands, millions of children and broken adults.
All for what? Pride and Vanity and a commitment to all involved to protect them from the “mean old world” despite allowing predators to eat their children from within.
Being a #JW was a very interesting experience. It provides a very efficient form of insulation from outside society and allows people involved to view the chaos from afar. There is this persistent (albeit false) sense of shared peace that members have. It’s as though for three days a week you go to this meeting where no matter what, everyone has a smile and feels about things EXACTLY how you do. There is no cursing, there are no politics, there surely isn’t any destructive influences that would tarnish your chances of salvation. For a parent this is a refuge when raising a child in a world that is dangerously unpredictable.
A Child that you are unable (or unwilling) to teach coping skills to get along by societal standards, A child you want to protect by hiding. This is problem #1.
As an adult the congregation presents an avenue for which you can act and behave in a way that allows you to reconcile your past, a way to have less of those nights awake because you think about past wrongs you’ve committed against people. It’s the proverbial band-aid for a guilty, bruised, destroyed conscious of any size. Coming into the organization takes nothing more than the desire to change, publicly declaring your willingness to hand over your life to God (The organization). Bam, You’re in! No credit check, no background check. This is problem #2.
A JW is taught that “every facet is an asset” (Ministerial Servants know what I’m talking about). What this means is that every facet of your life is an asset to the organization to spread its word. If the world see’s their product’s application into your life and thereby how much better it is than a normal person’s, then they’ve made an “Effective Witness” to the world. This causes Witnesses of any age to allow almost every facet of their life to be a tool by the organization. For a parent this includes their children. This is problem #3.
When you get a culture that insulates itself from the real world, that allows you to enter without any coherent vetting, give access to children whose parents feel obligated to present as a “witness” to the lifestyle. You get a twisted corridor in which victims can get lost for a lifetime and predators can hide in plain sight.
For any proponents of the “Save-The-Children” movement to not take a step back and really analyze their local community and lifestyle through these lenses only illustrates that child abuse is being weaponized politically at the expense of others whom you aren’t willing to save because it would look bad for ‘your side’. If you truly care, you wouldn’t be sharing email forwards about what evil unverified unmentionable thing you read some celebrity or politician did. Instead, you’d be drawing back on your experiences as a child.
Even if nothing happened directly to you, I’m sure you know some one that had an experience that forever harmed their life. Who did it? Was there a pattern or social condition that allowed for this as was laid out in the JW example?
How could it have been avoided? Would you have stopped it if you saw the signs? Are you willing to stop it in the future, knowing what you know now?
If you can answer any of those questions with a yes, then you have all you need to WRITE your own material to reach real victims and their families. Does your action cause problems for your ‘side’? It shouldn’t matter and you know that. If it does make a difference to you then you are no better than the shadowy pedophilic cabal that you are so obsessed with.

2024.05.15 00:59 MajorWilliams Flan_dad, Vendor Disputes, and Supporting Vendors Update. Please read.

There was recently a post about Flan_dad with lots of drama. I investigated this, painstakingly read the messages myself. Timeline was as follows, you can make up your own mind, but customer was also warned here and did some odd behaviors. No names are given of the customer.
  1. The customer asked if his used watches could be plated
  2. Flandad said no used watches, and it's EU
  3. Customer insisted and accepted the risk. Watches were plated, QC sent to customer. https://imgur.com/a/xKzcVz8
  4. One month after receiving with accepting feedback, he took it to a 'goldsmith' for a mass spectrometer gold test. They "were not plated and had no gold" when the test results came back, and expected a full refund, all in one message.
  5. When asked for a copy of the test results, he did not furnish them (which is odd, mass spectrometers have readouts as it’s the only way to assess a result) and said it was done 'off the books'.
  6. Continued to insist on a refund stating that the work was not done. Based on the videos provided, the work looks to be done.
  7. Continued to insist and insult in PMs and that's when both parties got defensive and screenshots were posted on RepTime. I believe most TDs have been guilty of insults from time to time as well.
  8. Note that there are other details in the interactions but are removed to isolate some of the main points that are odd to me.
My honest opinion is that shouldn't be allowed here: to make Reptime the drama board for disputes, but that's just me. Customer insisted there was no gold due to a test from an 'off the books test' and didn't furnish the results when asked, and continued to double down when demanding a refund. I've seen people try to scam TDs with more effort, but finding the truth is near impossible without proper proof, especially to the one making the claim. As it is I would consider this still an open dispute.

At a broader level, supporting vendor discussion is no longer supported here due to the customer support model at forums. Trusted Vendors' discussion are always supported.

Please upvote for visibility. Feel free to discuss, but keep comments civil. This is stretching my limits of what I enjoy being a volunteer mod here.

Healthcare staffing agencies play a vital role in providing qualified healthcare professionals to meet the growing demand for healthcare services. These agencies act as intermediaries between healthcare facilities and healthcare professionals, ensuring that the right professionals are placed in the right positions. The introduction of healthcare staffing agencies has revolutionized the healthcare industry, offering opportunities for both healthcare professionals and healthcare facilities to optimize their operations and provide quality care. In this article, we will explore the opportunities and challenges of starting and growing a healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota.

Importance of healthcare staffing agencies in South Dakota

Healthcare staffing agencies play a crucial role in South Dakota by addressing the growing demand for qualified healthcare professionals. With the increasing population and the need for quality healthcare services, these agencies serve as a bridge between healthcare facilities and skilled healthcare workers. They ensure that healthcare facilities have access to a pool of competent and reliable professionals, while also providing employment opportunities for healthcare workers. By effectively matching the right professionals with the right healthcare facilities, these agencies contribute to the overall improvement of healthcare delivery in South Dakota. Moreover, they help alleviate the burden on healthcare facilities by handling the recruitment and placement process, allowing them to focus on providing quality care to patients. Overall, healthcare staffing agencies are essential in meeting the staffing needs of the healthcare industry in South Dakota and ensuring the delivery of quality healthcare services to the community.

Market analysis of healthcare staffing agencies in South Dakota

Market analysis of healthcare staffing agencies in South Dakota reveals several opportunities and challenges for entrepreneurs looking to start and grow their own agency. The healthcare industry in South Dakota is experiencing significant growth, creating a high demand for qualified healthcare professionals. This presents a lucrative market for staffing agencies to connect healthcare facilities with the right talent. However, the competition in the industry is also intense, with numerous established agencies already operating in the state. To succeed in this market, entrepreneurs need to carefully analyze the current landscape, identify gaps and niches, and develop unique strategies to differentiate their agency. Additionally, understanding the regulatory requirements and compliance standards specific to South Dakota is crucial for ensuring smooth operations and building trust with clients and healthcare professionals. With the right research, planning, and execution, entrepreneurs can navigate the market and establish a successful healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota.

Legal Requirements for Starting a Healthcare Staffing Agency

Licensing and registration

Licensing and registration are crucial steps in starting and growing a healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota. In order to operate legally and provide quality services, it is important to obtain the necessary licenses and registrations from the appropriate authorities. This ensures compliance with state regulations and helps build trust with clients and healthcare professionals. The process of obtaining licenses and registrations may vary depending on the type of agency and the services offered. It is essential to thoroughly research and understand the requirements, fees, and timelines involved. Additionally, maintaining updated licenses and registrations is vital to avoid any legal issues or disruptions in business operations. By prioritizing licensing and registration, healthcare staffing agencies can establish a solid foundation for success in South Dakota's competitive healthcare industry.

Insurance and liability

Insurance and liability are crucial aspects to consider when starting and growing a healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota. As the healthcare industry is highly regulated, it is important to have the appropriate insurance coverage to protect the agency, its employees, and clients. This includes professional liability insurance to cover any potential malpractice claims, general liability insurance to protect against accidents or injuries on the agency's premises, and workers' compensation insurance to provide financial support for employees who may suffer work-related injuries. Additionally, it is essential to regularly review and update insurance policies to ensure they meet the changing needs of the agency and comply with state and federal regulations. By prioritizing insurance and liability management, healthcare staffing agencies in South Dakota can mitigate risks and safeguard their operations, reputation, and financial stability.

Compliance with employment laws

Compliance with employment laws is a crucial aspect of starting and growing a healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota. As the healthcare industry is highly regulated, it is essential to adhere to all relevant laws and regulations to ensure the agency operates legally and ethically. This includes understanding and complying with federal and state employment laws, such as the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). Additionally, healthcare staffing agencies must also comply with industry-specific regulations, such as those set forth by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Failing to comply with these laws and regulations can result in severe penalties, legal consequences, and damage to the agency's reputation. Therefore, it is imperative for healthcare staffing agencies in South Dakota to prioritize compliance with employment laws to ensure the success and longevity of their business.

Recruitment and Hiring Process

Identifying staffing needs

Identifying staffing needs is a crucial step in starting and growing a healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota. Understanding the demand for healthcare professionals in the state is essential for determining the specific staffing needs of healthcare facilities. By conducting thorough research and analysis, healthcare staffing agencies can identify the areas and specialties that require the most attention. This knowledge allows agencies to tailor their recruitment efforts and provide healthcare facilities with qualified professionals who can meet their staffing needs effectively. Additionally, staying updated on industry trends and changes in healthcare regulations is vital for staying ahead of the competition and addressing the evolving staffing needs of healthcare facilities in South Dakota.

Sourcing qualified healthcare professionals

Sourcing qualified healthcare professionals is a critical aspect of starting and growing a healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota. The success of the agency relies heavily on the ability to attract and retain top talent in the healthcare industry. To ensure the highest level of care for clients, it is essential to have a rigorous screening and selection process in place. This includes conducting thorough background checks, verifying credentials and certifications, and assessing the skills and experience of potential candidates. Additionally, building strong relationships with educational institutions, professional organizations, and other healthcare providers can provide valuable networking opportunities and access to a pool of qualified professionals. By investing in effective sourcing strategies, a healthcare staffing agency can position itself as a trusted provider of high-quality healthcare professionals in South Dakota.

Screening and interviewing candidates

Screening and interviewing candidates is a critical step in the process of starting and growing a healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota. The success of the agency relies heavily on the quality of the healthcare professionals it recruits and places in various healthcare facilities. To ensure that only the most qualified candidates are selected, thorough screening and interviewing techniques must be employed. This includes conducting background checks, verifying credentials, assessing clinical skills, and evaluating cultural fit. Additionally, it is essential to adhere to all legal and ethical guidelines throughout the screening and interviewing process. By implementing a rigorous screening and interviewing process, healthcare staffing agencies in South Dakota can attract top talent and provide exceptional services to healthcare facilities in the region.

Building Relationships with Healthcare Facilities

Understanding the needs of healthcare facilities

Understanding the needs of healthcare facilities is crucial for starting and growing a healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota. Healthcare facilities rely on staffing agencies to provide them with qualified and competent healthcare professionals to meet their staffing needs. By understanding the specific needs of healthcare facilities, such as the demand for specialized healthcare professionals or the need for flexible staffing solutions, consulting firms can develop effective strategies to address these needs. By offering tailored staffing solutions and providing expertise in healthcare staffing, consulting firms can help healthcare facilities optimize their staffing processes and ensure the delivery of quality patient care.

Negotiating contracts and agreements

Negotiating contracts and agreements is a crucial aspect of running a successful healthcare staffing agency. It requires careful consideration and attention to detail to ensure that both parties involved are satisfied with the terms and conditions. One of the key challenges in this process is dealing with corporate companies that may be losing money. It is important to approach such negotiations with tact and professionalism, offering solutions and strategies that can help mitigate their financial difficulties. By understanding their unique situation and providing tailored solutions, healthcare staffing agencies can build strong partnerships with corporate companies, creating mutually beneficial agreements that contribute to the growth and success of both parties.

Providing ongoing support and communication

Providing ongoing support and communication is crucial for the success of a healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota. By maintaining open lines of communication with clients and healthcare professionals, the agency can ensure that staffing needs are met efficiently and effectively. This includes regular check-ins with clients to assess their staffing requirements and address any concerns or issues that may arise. Additionally, the agency should establish a reliable system for healthcare professionals to communicate their availability and preferences, allowing for seamless coordination and scheduling. By prioritizing ongoing support and communication, the healthcare staffing agency can build strong relationships with clients and healthcare professionals, leading to long-term success and growth.

Marketing and Promotion Strategies

Creating a strong online presence

Creating a strong online presence is crucial for any healthcare staffing agency looking to thrive in today's digital age. With the majority of people turning to the internet to search for healthcare services, having a well-established online presence can significantly increase visibility and attract potential clients. To create a strong online presence, healthcare staffing agencies in South Dakota should focus on developing a professional website that showcases their expertise, services, and testimonials from satisfied clients. Additionally, investing in search engine optimization (SEO) strategies can help the agency rank higher in search engine results, making it easier for potential clients to find them. Lastly, leveraging social media platforms and online advertising can further enhance the agency's online presence, reaching a wider audience and establishing credibility in the industry. By prioritizing the creation of a strong online presence, healthcare staffing agencies in South Dakota can position themselves as leaders in the field and effectively compete in the digital landscape.

Networking with healthcare professionals and facilities

Networking with healthcare professionals and facilities is crucial for the success of a healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota. By building strong relationships with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers, the agency can gain valuable insights into the needs and preferences of the local healthcare community. This knowledge can help the agency tailor its staffing solutions to meet the specific requirements of healthcare facilities in South Dakota. Additionally, networking allows the agency to establish partnerships with hospitals, clinics, and group homes, which can lead to a steady stream of clients and job opportunities. By leveraging these connections, the agency can position itself as a trusted and reliable resource for healthcare staffing in South Dakota.

Utilizing targeted advertising and marketing campaigns

Utilizing targeted advertising and marketing campaigns is crucial for the success of a healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota. By identifying the specific needs and preferences of healthcare professionals and facilities in the area, the agency can tailor its messaging and promotional activities to effectively reach its target audience. This may involve utilizing online platforms, such as social media and job boards, to connect with potential candidates and clients. Additionally, the agency can leverage local partnerships and industry networks to expand its reach and visibility. A well-executed advertising and marketing strategy can help the agency establish a strong brand presence, attract qualified healthcare professionals, and build relationships with healthcare facilities, ultimately leading to the growth and sustainability of the business.

Challenges and Opportunities in the Healthcare Staffing Industry

Shortage of healthcare professionals

The shortage of healthcare professionals is a significant challenge faced by the healthcare staffing industry in South Dakota. With the increasing demand for healthcare services, there is a growing need for skilled and qualified professionals to meet the needs of the population. However, the limited availability of healthcare professionals, especially in rural areas, poses a major obstacle to the growth and expansion of healthcare staffing agencies. This shortage not only affects the quality of patient care but also puts a strain on existing healthcare facilities. To address this issue, it is crucial for healthcare staffing agencies to develop strategies to attract and retain healthcare professionals, such as offering competitive salaries, providing professional development opportunities, and establishing partnerships with educational institutions to promote healthcare careers in the state.

Competition from other staffing agencies

Competition from other staffing agencies is a significant challenge that healthcare staffing agencies in South Dakota face. With the increasing demand for healthcare professionals, the market has become highly competitive. To stand out from the competition, healthcare staffing agencies need to focus on providing exceptional services and building strong relationships with healthcare facilities. One area that can give a competitive edge is email deliverability. Ensuring that emails are delivered to the intended recipients in a timely manner is crucial for effective communication and maintaining client relationships. By prioritizing email deliverability, healthcare staffing agencies can enhance their communication channels and improve overall client satisfaction.

Changing healthcare regulations and policies

Changing healthcare regulations and policies play a crucial role in the success and growth of healthcare staffing agencies in South Dakota. Staying updated with the latest changes ensures compliance and adherence to legal requirements. It also allows agencies to adapt their operations and strategies to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare industry. By closely monitoring and understanding these regulations and policies, healthcare staffing agencies can effectively navigate challenges and capitalize on new opportunities.

Conclusion

Summary of key points

Starting and growing a healthcare staffing agency in South Dakota presents both opportunities and challenges. To succeed in this venture, it is important to understand the key points that can help navigate the industry. One of the key points to consider is the projected growth of the nursing industry in Georgia by 2023. This presents a significant opportunity for healthcare staffing agencies to provide qualified nursing professionals to meet the increasing demand. Additionally, understanding the specific regulations and licensing requirements in Georgia will be crucial for operating a successful agency in the state. Future prospects of healthcare staffing agencies in South Dakota

The future prospects of healthcare staffing agencies in South Dakota are promising. With the increasing demand for healthcare professionals and the growing population in the state, there is a significant need for staffing agencies to provide qualified and skilled healthcare professionals. This presents a great opportunity for healthcare staffing agencies to expand their operations and cater to the healthcare needs of the community. However, along with the opportunities, there are also challenges that healthcare staffing agencies need to address. 2024.05.15 00:22 SociallyDrivenMusic Sometimes Music Reflects Society, Now It Must Also Urgently Lead Again!

So, it’s been suggested that we present a simplified overview of the recent essays (linked below) that I co-wrote with respected analyst Hanna Kahlert, of renowned London-based MIDiA Research, which covered so much territory of interconnected concepts that all affect the current and future viability of the music industry. This summary eschews the essays’ “$10 words,” (with the exception of using “eschews” here!) with which some have struggled, and is shared in the bite-sized, more digestible form of a survey and petition in combination with this summary/bullet point preface of some of the most salient points. The survey and petition presents the essence of our thesis in the uncomplicated context of a proactive social impact campaign format.
First, let me explain. I grew up in a Long Island suburb town (about thirty miles outside New York City) during the “English Invasion” of music. I’d first hear new releases on my FM clock radio tuned to stations that prided themselves on finding the “cool stuff” first. It was a time when we were met almost every day with another astounding, mind-blowing record and artist to discover, often with something worth thinking about and culturally significant. Sometimes these releases would even be life-changing. Many of these recordings would become iconic — classic evergreens with songs covered endlessly. Yes, like today, there were also dismissable records then. The difference would seem to be that there are more songs about nothing today, replete with de rigeur profanity that only further detracts and is anything but “cool." While there are some very imaginative productions and impressive singers, there are few records now that demand a cerebral, emotional response, and there is a dearth that will be remembered as moving the needle at all, so to speak. Even customary love themes are largely just recycled imitations of the greats.
Since I also relate to the sensitivity of empaths — someone attuned to the deep feelings of those around them at a personal level — I tend to gravitate to music with a message that connects with us viscerally, that which touches the soul. Especially in our currently fraught times, there clearly is a need for thought-provoking music and for more attention given to the evolution of this genre of what was once deemed “protest songs.” Socially poignant music is a category that disguises protest in metaphors and yet is just as potent. It will create community and superfans, lift spirits, and engender a large movement of positive social advocacy. I established Socially Driven Music to develop and market #Music4APurpose. The concept resonated with Hanna Kahlert and we set about to co-write what we envision.
While developing our conclusions towards offering actionable, viable value-propositions for the music industry, we took several months to sort our ideas, research, digest and assimilate the daily deluge of information about changes battering the music industry. While I wasn’t aware that Mark Mulligan, MIDiA’s Founder and Managing Director, was developing his “Bifurcation Theory,” it is validating to be in sync with his thinking and to be presenting what I consider to be the roadmap to implementing that theory. I am excited about offering takeaways that will hopefully propel many away from feelings of helpless, hopeless despair and towards optimism and positive activism through the enrapture we seek from our music and the communities built around it.
Socially driven music has traditionally been a powerful way to raise awareness about issues across the board, such as Discrimination, Climate, Democracy, Mental Health, Bullying, Substance Abuse, Antisemitism, Equality, Homelessness, Veterans, Suicide,Terrorism, Gun Control, Women’s Productive Rights, Food and Clean Water Insecurity, Cancer and other illnesses, Animal Rights/Protection, Environmental Justice, Oceans, LGBTQ+ rights, etc. Our mandate recognizes the crucial difference of a sustained campaign animated by a song.
Above all, we must always remember and honor “The Greatest Generation” (and all Veterans) who fought and died upholding ideals that they expected us to continue to respect. Political affiliation is most often indoctrinated and not questioned individually. Support traditional Republican philosophy if you must, but #MAGA is not the antidote to Democrats and is authoritarian and dangerous to our democracy!
All causes, including music rights, are affected by the influence of a common denominator — politics. Each social cause group is a large community which can be further grown and energized with the natural evolution of fans to music superfans. Compelling socially thematic music enraptures and beckons fans to demonstrate their proud commonality and membership in a next generation fan club that can actually impact society with its fervor and political influence.
Socially Driven Music, the #Music4APurpose consultancy brand, powers extraordinary reciprocal benefits for artists and songwriters when integrated with the community of fans, causes, supportive brands and empathetic politicians ! [info@sociallydrivenmusic.com](mailto:info@sociallydrivenmusic.com)
A list of many social impact causes can be found in the dropdown menu here.
We are thrilled and very appreciative to have been invited to talk with some of the most highly regarded podcast and webinar programs which will include delving into why major record labels discouraging artists espousing political views is anachronistic, irrelevant and no longer a barrier.
As you work through the survey and petition in this post, you’ll likely have an “aha moment.” We look forward to working with you and our fast growing interactive coaltion who share a passion for energizing positive changes in causes that matter to us all.

Join us. Democracy is a big issue in 2024 and one we can influence together! (The correct local and national choices will influence the rest.)

ONE:
The Survey
TWO:
The Petition
THREE:
Connect With Your Senators and Representatives
Identify your Senators and Congressional Representatives with this link and website tool, below, and let us know in the above survey for what purpose you’d like to collaborate with them. Socially Driven Music’s mandate is to facilitate a potent music-fan-cause-brand-political influencer consortium for positive social impact.
Raise your hand in the survey if you are an artist who might want to volunteer at a voting polling station or actually volunteer to help a campaign with calling voters (and meet some new fans).
PS: Although this piece is focused on how music can influence American politics and the fraught issues it impacts, this same template can be applied worldwide. Talk to us!
And here is the epitome example of what we aspire to create:
Paul Simon wrote the masterpiece “American Tune” in 1973 and it applies 51 years later even more to today’s troubled times. This is one of the best examples of the socially poignant music that we contend is so important to create again today, and a brilliant example of a copyright that will live on forever.
The first link is Rhiannon Giddens with Paul at the Grammy Salute evening for him. The second link is Paul’s original.
The song will bring the listener to tears as it describes a societal hopelessness and yet compels the listener to fight through the despair. It perfectly summarizes the emotion powering Socially Driven Music and I hope helps convey what this written summary is trying to articulate.
