2024.05.10 22:10 SkyEnvironmental3999 Just returned from first trip to Hawaii

Just returned from first trip to Hawaii
Returned back to Minnesota on Thursday from our first trip ever to Hawaii. It was a phenomenal experience to say the least. We flew out on 5/3 with Delta (MSP to HNL direct) flying Delta One. Best experience to have a nonstop flight and sleep on the plane! When we arrived in Honolulu we took a taxi to our resort. Highly recommend cause driving from airport was insane. We checked into the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort & Spa, we booked a high floor room with ocean view, but definitely didn’t get the high floor. They put us on 14, but the view of the ocean was great no matter what. Everything about the room was great, just think they need to do upgrades to the bathroom as the shower was worse than mine at home. Our first day we did the beach and a little shopping in Waikiki and around the resort. Everyone is so polite and engaging even the locals. It might just be because they have to be since it is a high tourist destination, but more friendly than locals back home are. Day 2: Pearl Harbor with Transportation from Groupon, it was just for the basic tour of the USS Arizona Memorial, but if we wanted they gave us option to add on USS Missouri and Bowfin Submarine. It was a somber experience and a must for all. After we returned to the hotel we explored more of what was in the area. Thank you to those who recommended some of the gay bars to we enjoyed our time! Day 3: After breakfast from Kai Coffee, we rented a car and drove up the shore stopping at Sandy Beach, Kaiwai State Scenic Shoreline lookout, Waimãnalo (where I got soaked on the rocks), Nu’uanu Pali Lookout, Sea Life Park and attended the Aloha Kai Luau. Highly recommend the luau , the food was amazing, even tried poi for the first time and I liked it! Everyone involved with the luau was engaging towards the guests, drinks were strong and delicious! Day 4: Woke up at 6 am got coffee and hit road. Drove all day around the island exploring the little towns and beaches. We stopped at Halewaia Beach and did some swimming, got startled by the sea turtles just popping up near us. We ended up getting some fun footage of the turtles swimming underwater with our phones, not greatest, but worth getting pounded by the waves to just capture the little footage we got. We ended up just driving the rest of the way around the coast of the island where we could. Day 5: Made this day just a beach day and last minute shopping. Planning on returning to Hawaii in 2025, making it an annual trip. The only thing we would do differently is stay away from Waikiki and island hop. Have been pricing out cost to fly into Hilo for the mainstay, but hop over to Oahu to do somethings we never did.

2024.05.09 18:05 grubbinongrits What are these toppings for?

What are these toppings for?
RDU is my home base. The SC food here leaves a lot to be desired… I usually wait til I get to ATL, DTW, or MSP if I am hungry or traveling at lunch time. Delayed today and won’t have time to stop in the MSP club. Decided to take a look and for the life of me I can’t figure out… What are all these condiments for???? It’s the most random 6 bowls of stuff I’ve ever seen and I can’t figure out what they’re supposed to go on. Hot food is roasted creole potatoes, chicken scampi, and a vegetable medley. Soups are lobster bisque and broccoli cheddar (hello cream), and there are 2 mixed salads, brownies and lemon bars, and the plate of pita, hummus, ham and olives…and a roast beef sandwich. Toppings are mostly a mystery but seem to be: shaved parm?, pickled relish??, crispy onions, lime wedges, goat cheese crumbles, and Remoulade.
What creations would you come up with here?

2024.05.06 22:44 DocNacho Trip Report Part 2

Trip Report Part 2
Based on good support after my first post, I’ve decided to post Part 2 of my return trip to LAX from MKE via MSP on Delta. Thanks, Redditors, for your early feedback and support!
So, I had to change my flight from Monday evening to Sunday evening/night. I bought my original ticket with Skypesos, so it sucked to have to use Skypesos to change the ticket, but whatever, what can you do. Thankfully, I have enough of them. It was about 22k pesos to change to Main or 51k pesos to change to First. Considering there was only 1 seat left in first from MKE-MSP and 3 left from MSP-LAX when I made the change, I decided to splurge the extra 29k on the guaranteed First seats, so I didn’t need to play the high-anxiety waiting game on upgrades, which I doubt I would have gotten even as a Diamond on either leg. Sure enough, the upgrade list MKE-MSP was about 20 deep and MSP-LAX was about 40 deep and neither had any First seats available at boarding time. Also, with a long day of travel and about 3 hour layover at MSP, I just wanted to comfortable on both my flights with total in-seat time of about 6 hours, the 29k came out to roughly $50 an hour, which I see as a good value. Also, the A320 and 737-900 ER first class seats are excellent in my book!
I got to Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport about 1 hour and 40 minutes before my flight departure time. MKE is a great medium-town airport. From arrival to Sky Club was 9 minutes with Precheck (would have been 6 minutes if I didn’t take a quick detour to take photos of the Mitchell Gallery of Flight, which resulted in a family of three and couple just barely get ahead of me in the Precheck line). I have access to the Sky Club with my Reserve card. I got the sleek new White Reserve card just in time for this trip. It’s nice, but I like the other black 747 Metal Reserve card. I never use these physical cards, but they are cool to have! MKE Sky Club is awesome! Almost never crowded, great service, great food, and great drinks (Wisconsin’s renowned Spotted Cow on tap complimentary). No complaints here!
The boarding and flight from MKE to MSP were smooth and we departed on time. PDB and in-flight drink with snack basket were offered to First passengers. A beautiful landing into MSP before sunset with downtown Minneapolis on the port/left side!
At MSP, I had almost three hours to kill. I like MSP a lot and there’s a lot to browse, but I decided to go straight to the G Sky Club, which I had never been to before. It was the First Anniversary of the Club opening and there were decorations all around the Club. It’s a magnificent Club with plenty of space, two bars, large food space, and some exterior space, but the smallest of any outdoor Sky Deck I’ve ever seen. I then walked directly over to the C gates and checked out the old C lounge, which was the same as always, but less crowded than I remember it. After getting dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings (I was sick of Sky Club food), I went to the F lounge and there was a nice Cinco de Mayo display! 🇲🇽
I went to board for my flight from MSP-LAX and boarding started on time and was smooth. PDB offered and promptly served. There’s no meal service on flights after 9 pm in domestic First, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a pillow/blanket in the First seats. There was an annoying Gen Z’r in the seat in front of me who was FaceTiming and histrionically talking about sleeping with an ex’s friend a week after breaking up with them. She was FaceTiming from the boarding gate until about three minutes before take-off and was sneaky to hide it from the FA’s, but otherwise no issues.
For a late night flight, the service was OUTSTANDING! I’ve submitted a formal compliment to Delta on this one. The lead FA must have come around at least 10 times with drinks/snacks. She was very quiet about service also, which I’m sure the sleeping folks appreciated. Lastly, she had a cute little pink flamingo 🦩 and battery-operated tea light on her serving tray. We landed 20 min early. I was off the plane and in my car at P2B within 8 minutes and cruising on the 405 within 19 minutes of walking off the plane, 1 minute before we were scheduled to formally arrive.
In case you missed it in my last post since I added it as a late comment, I wanted to add my thoughts on LAX parking. This might sound bizarre, but I LOVE parking at one of the LAX garages. If you book parking in advance through FlyLAX.com, you can score some great parking deals. I got parking for four days, for $108. Compared to other off site parking options like Parking Spot, WallyPark, etc, this is a great deal. If you book in advance and are signed up for their alerts with coupon codes, I’ve averaged $20-25 a day for parking at P2A, P2B, and P3, which are the best for Delta. It’s also very easy to cancel and rebook parking if a better code comes out or prices drop.
There are multiple reasons I like parking at LAX. Depending on when your flight is, you can enter via departures or arrivals level to these garages. So in the morning when departures is packed, I go to arrivals, and vice versa. I also love getting off a plane and into my car in less than 10 minutes on my way directly going home. Yea, sometimes there’s a little traffic at LAX, but it still saves time leaving especially when compared to taking a shuttle to Uber area or another parking service. Also, don’t have to deal with bad Uber drivers. And then there’s time and money savings for me. It’s definitely cheaper than Uber both ways from where I live and often cheaper than off-site garages. Time savings on landing is priceless to me. All in all, have had great experiences doing this. Just have to book in advance to score the best deals. The earlier the better!
Photos today include the Mitchell Gallery of Flight at MKE outside of security, which is great for aviation nerds like myself, portrait of General Mitchell himself, MKE’s famed “Recombobulation Area,” view from G Sky Club, G Sky Club Anniversary decorations, F Sky Club Cinco de Mayo display, and view of Vega$ and Vega$ Sphere from FL320.
Anyways, that’s all for today’s TL;DR post 😂 Feel free to ask any questions. Hope it was helpful! No flight scheduled until July now 😔 I sure will miss the beauty of flying!

2024.05.04 20:05 SpacePeanutCat Is this job offer worth the little pay?

Hey all, curious on opinions. I’m working on my A+ and ITF+ through a VA program, and applying to jobs trying to get like a customer service/help desk entry job as I haven’t had direct experience with ticket systems, SIEM’s, daily troubleshooting problems, etc. I’ve just done like home stuff and belong at my good job when I see an opportunity.
Got a job offer from a MSP. Remote, OTJ training by, experience. However, it’s 30-32k which after taxes is like 25-27k at best. I’m debating bringing up my past manager experience and military experience to try to get to at least 35k, something ya know….slightly more livable in todays world then upper class homelessness pay lol
What would you do? It’s a chance to finally get experience but idk how anyone could live off 25k a year without food stamps and all the stuff you need as someone who’s homeless basically. I’d be homeless with a desktop lol so yeah just curious thoughts on this. Thanks all, happy job hunting!!!

I just committed to OSU and I chose Traditions Plus on a whim but after reading this subreddit I’m having second thoughts because I see a lot of people say they get tired of Traditions but when I visited OSU I personally liked the food. Am I gonna have flexibility with Traditions Plus? I also got selected for the MSP LLC which is in Blackburn which is near one of the dining halls iirc. Also what r y’all’s thoughts on Blackburn?

2024.04.30 05:07 ItachiBenzema CTA claim - Delta's settle offer good ?

Hi all,
This is my first time filing a claim with the Canadian Transport Agency (CTA), and I would greatly appreciate your opinion on this matter.
On July 3rd, Delta Airlines (PHX to MSP) were selecting volunteers to be bumped out. They were offering $1000 initially, then increased the offer to $1500. The flight was overbooked. It took them 2 hours to select the volunteers. I volunteered, expressing that I would miss my connecting flight to Canada (YUL) and requested that they select me. However, they did not choose me. Two hours later, we took off. I unexpectedly missed my connection flight and was offered a food voucher and hotel accommodation. I arrived home more than 12 hours than expected.
Afterward, I requested compensation from Delta, but they refused. I then filed a claim with the CTA. Now, Delta is claiming that the balance of the plane was an issue, which is why they selected volunteers. The plane was full though. They are now offering me $1000 (~730 USD) to settle. Should I accept it?
Thank you !

This is the return flight on Saturday, June 22, 2024. If you know ATL, how is going through customs on a Saturday evening? This is a flight from the Caribbean. We’re US citizens. I have TSA pre-check but my girlfriend doesn’t.

2024.04.24 00:53 ForeverOne4756 GA gave away my first class upgrade.

I was on a puddle jumper from MSP to ORD. I got upgraded after boarding and sitting in my seat 21A. I got the notification and showed the FA that I just got upgraded. But he said the GA already gave away my seat and at this point that person is already there. I know there isn’t any drink or food service on a puddle jumper. But I was still surprised that this happened.

‘Is Minneapolis good?’ How a Russian transgender refugee found hope in Minnesota — and a friend at the airport
"He and his partner crossed the southern border seeking asylum. Only one made it this far."
"Erik Georgievich Beda arrived at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport last month on a United flight from Chicago with nothing but a small plastic bag containing his Russian passport and other paperwork.
“’When the plane landed in Minneapolis, I saw that there was a snowstorm outside,’ Beda said through a translator. ‘It was very snowy and frosty. I had no warm clothes, no shoelaces, no food and no money. I decided that the airport police might be able to help me.’
“Beda, 36, stopped the first airline employee he saw, and, using Google Translate, asked to be taken to ‘airport police.’ He was instead brought to the Travelers Assistance station on Level D, where volunteers immediately began to help.
“’At first, I tried to explain as best I could in English, but my pronunciation is very bad, and no one understood me,’ Beda said.
“Through a Russian interpreter, the Travelers Assistance staff learned that Beda, a transgender male, had fled Russia with his partner, Ivan Beda, because of the country’s widespread crackdown on LGBTQ+ people and outlawing of gender changes in identity and gender-affirming medical care.
“’They are considered a terrorist and an enemy of the state,’ said John Pundsack, a Travelers Assistance volunteer who befriended Beda at the airport. “’Erik and Ivan were truly running for their lives.’
"The couple left Russia on Dec. 23, flying to Istanbul and then on to Mexico City. After two months in Mexico, they crossed the border into Arizona and were detained there."
"Only Erik Beda was provided travel from Phoenix to Chicago to MSP. Ivan Beda is still being detained; he is now at the Folkston, Ga., ICE Processing Center."

2024.04.17 12:23 anarchistexplorer A 3rd world ( especially INDIA) perspective on minarchism

I WROTE THIS POST TO KNOW HOW MINARCHISM ACCEPTS THESE ISSUES THAT 3RD WORLD COUNTRIES MOSTLY FACE EVEN THOUGH THE NUMBERS ARE FROM INDIA THE MOST DENSELY POPULATED COUNTRY OF THE WORLD . I REQUEST THE MEMBERS TO GIVE PRACTICAL AND STEP WISE SOLUTIONS IF POSSIBLE OR ATLEAST A CLEAR INSIGHT THAT MINARCHISM GIVES ON HOW TO DEAL WITH THESE ISSUES. PLEASE DON'T RANT ABOUT THIS ISSUES BY JUST SAYING TERMS AND CALLING THEM AS SOLUTIONS. GIVE SOLUTIONS TO THESE ISSUES TO A NON MINARCHIST:-
1:- unions and corporatives :- in India we have huge business like tata and Mahindra that people love, respect and are loyal too for playing a huge role in shaping morden India and employing many people but we have crony capitalists too like Ambani and Adani who have exploited workers and natural resources!!! We have Cooperatives like Amul who made India a milk producing country from a milk deficient country while also looking after farmers, Mumbai dabbawala a 127 year old coorporative that plays a crucial role in Mumbai tiffin service and have a huge workforce that is like a family and not a business venture environment where any person is thrown out simply if he is a liability and emotions are attached to such coorporatives and people are proud of it and even the government advocates and help these coorporatives too in increasing their working areas to this major landmass as they are also profit generating coorporatives!!!! We have unions like AITUC, BMS, INTUC, UTUC, CITU, H.M.S . they have played a crucial role against crony capitalism, workers exploitation and rights and better working conditions for workers. They are present in India since the time of colonialism and are still relevant, play a crucial role and lakhs of people are in these unions!!! We have syndicates like warna and many tribal associations that have their own product and control means of production. Even the government is proposing the idea of a product for each district that the local people manage. PSUs handling national resources and other things. Government has made laws to prevent workers exploitation and wage allocation which are necessary for some companies. I GAVE ABOVE EXAMPLES JUST TO TELL THE IMPORTANCE OF UNIONS AND ALSO MIXED ECONOMY IN THESE COUNTRIES WHILE I HAVE SEEN MINARCHISTS BEING OPPOSED TO UNIONS AND SYNDICATES AND GOVERNMENT LAWS FOR MARKET.
2:- WELFARE PROGRAMS AND TAXATION ON IT:- I HAVE SEEN MINARCHISTS SAYING MINIMAL TAXES AND ADVOCATING THAT SUCH PROGRAMS SHOULD BE DONE BY PRIVATE COMPANIES. In India more than 800 million people live on free ration/ food from government, old people and women get subsidised transport, people get subsidised electricity, we have free education or at very low cost in government education institutions ( private institutions have 100 times more fees but still service is not much better) , free government healthcare and free prescribed medicines from government hospital ( while capitalist countries like USA healthcare is very much expensive with expensive medicines while those same medicines patent are given to Indian pharma companies that make the same quality medicine at cheaper price for example take Novartis pharmaceuticals case) . More than 100 million people use government healthcare and schools ( take the major example of government hospitals and medical College like AIIMS, kgmu etc with total fees of 1200$ and compare it's services and facilities to private colleges with total fees no less than 100000$ and low services) . Around 17 million people are working on government pension not payed by taxes but by those people own salary share ,4 million people employed in government workforce, employment schemes like MGNREGA give 154 million people employment or wages under them, MSP by government to farmers and many more. I am saying this because it is all done by taxation on people who can pay taxes and tax rates are normally 30% and in some cases till 35% but people are getting these services for them. HOW WOULD A MINARCHIST AGAINST TAXATION AND INVOLVEMENT OF STATE IN WELFARE PROGRAMS WOULD CONVINCE A NORMAL PERSON DEPENDENT ON THESE PROGRAMS ABOUT MINARCHISM AND HOW WOULD THEY REPLACE THE WELFARE PROGRAMS WITH. I HAVE SEEN MINARCHISTS AGREEING TO PAY 10 TIMES MORE TO SOME PRIVATE COMPANIES THAN PAYING A MINIMUM AMOUNT TO TAXES. THEY CALL STATE BAD SIMILARLY ONE COULD CALL THE COMPANIES BAD!!!

2024.04.17 02:52 Excellent_Ideal8496 Six flights, no issues

In the past two weeks I’ve flown Delta: MSP-SEA, SEA-ANC, ANC-SEA, SEA-MSP, MSP-AMS, AMS-MSP. No unruly passengers, no rude flight crews, no broken equipment, excellent food, on time departures and arrivals, smooth boarding. Posts I see here make flying Delta sound like hell on earth (and in the sky). Where are you all having these miserable experiences?

2024.04.16 16:57 n8opot8o Thanks from the Twin Cities!

Before I start, I apologize for the wall of text. So I'll just slap on a preliminary tl;dr: we had a great time in your city!
We drove down from MSP for the weekend and had a great time in your town. I know it's a fluff, bullshit post but I always like to say thanks when we have a great time someplace, especially when so many of our tips about things to see and do came from searching your sub.
We spent 99.9% in and around downtown. It was pretty lively, especially at night, and everyone was friendly. We walked over 15 miles on Saturday alone and didn't run into any trouble or feel uncomfortable at any point. Usually there's at least one weird moment, but we never felt unsafe. I only mention this because it seems, these days, a lot of folks are afraid of cities and yours feels pretty darn safe and clean when compared to others we've visited.
As I said above, we got a lot of info from this sub, so here's what we did, saw, etc:
Our first stop was the Working Man's Friend. Got the double cheeseburger and chalice of Bud. We love old dives, great spot. Drove to our hotel (La Quinta on Washington; not the best, not the worst), parked our car, then walked over to Monument Circle. Then we checked out the Capitol Building and headed towards Old National Center then up Mass Ave. Had some drinks at Liberty Street then stopped for apps and drinks at Condado because it smelled really good. Hoofed it back to the hotel and mentally prepped for day two.
Saturday started with a drive to Long's Bakery for donuts and coffee. After that, we drove down to Garfield Park because someone here had posted photos of tulips and we really wanted to see some spring flowers. The tulips were already looking a little tired but we had fun walking around the park doing some geocaching. The kids garden was super cute. The flowers there were pretty and the chicken had escaped its enclosure and was running around the area and attacking bugs which made us chuckle. After our park visit we parked back at the hotel and walked around the city. Walked every block in Lockerbie Square. The old cobblestone road is really neat. Then we stopped for lunch at Fat Dan's and after that headed to the canal. Stopped to look at the Scottish Rite Cathedral and all the other sites in the area. Got to the canal at the northern-most point and walked down to White River State Park. Highlight on the canal for me was the steam clock, that's pretty fucking awesome. Arrived at and walked around the park, we were lucky enough to have missed the 5k that was going on earlier and were able to peacefully enjoy everything in the area. Wow, you've had a shit ton of rain down here, that river is high af. Headed over to the (often maligned in this sub) mall to grab some souvenir shirts for our kids. The mall made me sad, especially coming from the land of malls, but we were able to get what we were looking for and that's good enough for us. After the mall, we walked over to see the Wholesale district then back to Mass Ave again to go check out the food hall. Place was hopping; neat area. Walked back to our hotel to take an hour break then, after our rest, we walked to the Chatham Tap for the War Pig pork tenderloin sandwich and an old fashioned. Great stuff. Then we went back to Old National Center to see Me First & the Gimme Gimmes. Fun venue, fun show. After the show we had drinks and took in some live Irish music at Nine Irish Brothers and headed back to the hotel, fucking exhausted.
And, finally, Sunday. Stopped at Charlie Brown's for Larry's Haystack and then took a walk around the speedway before heading back on the road to Minnesota.
There are a lot of other minor details that I won't bore you with since this post is already so dreadfully long and who gives a shit what some random tourists did anyway? (Haha). But I do want to sincerely say thank you to everyone who posts in this sub for all of the information here, it made our trip great. Despite everything we did and saw, it feels like we barely scratched the surface. Y'all should be very proud of your city. The people and place are absolutely wonderful and we look forward to visiting again.
