2024.05.14 14:54 Adrasteanex Rewatching Rick and Morty

So I'm rewatching Rick and Morty and in season 7 episode 4 the Pasta episode. Idk if I'm the only that's all fucked up in the head but I definitely wouldn't have minded to keep eating dead people. It would definitely be a little weird but come on. By the start of the episode they make it sound like the best pasta of the world.
Would you or would you not care if you eat dead people.
And when the cans of food are being produced where people leave a video hologram whatever. I honestly found it funny lol.

2024.05.14 13:01 ImM3llow 26 [M4F] East Coast / Anywhere. I just got diagnosed as your boyfriend. Yeah no they said it's terminal we have to stay together forever until i die🤷‍♂️

Edit: DO NOT message me a simple hi or hello, with no information about you, Put some effort in to your message like i have, come on. Day+Attempt#187
Hello everyone, Thank you for taking the time to read, I know its long, I know - I know. But its worth the read, Trust me. I appreciate you immensely.
Here's a bit about me,
My name is Jay, I live on the East coast of the US. I'm looking for love - like everyone else on here.., but you may not believe or even be doubtful that I've never had a GF before with me being 26, but its true. I'm simply just not willing to "be with" just anyone and I'm very picky. I want us to be a match, more than just have similar things in common.
One thing I have always been told is that I'm a "Real Catch, I'd be extremely lucky to have someone like you" - WELL THEN TAKE ME. I'M FREE. LOL.
About me:
Physically -
~I'm a semi-tall guy, around 5'10.
~I'm thin but muscular.
~I have dirty blonde/ brown hair.
~Changing colored eyes.
~A voice nice enough to melt all your safeguards and get right into your heart and weak spots.
~I do not have any tattoos or piercings. Though I would like to get some eventually.
If you'd like to see a picture of me just ask and I'll show you - IF I may see you as well, I simply just don't want a picture of me out there for anyone to see.
-If there's anything else you'd like to know just ask.
Otherwise -
~I do have 3 pet bunnies I would be more than happy to show you, they are extremely cute.
~I'm a very honest and down to earth guy.
~I'm very patient and easy going.
~I'm very curious and inquisitive. I will try to ask everything I can to learn all about you haha.
~I'm Very VERY Kind & Caring, I will probably ask how you are feeling a bajillion times a day, simply out of care for you.
~I can get pretty clingy, and will always want your attention and to be talking with you. If i have someone im interested in i wont want to talk to anyone else🤷‍♂️
~I'm very trustworthy - you can confide in me, and entrust your deepest secrets and I wont tell a soul.
~I'm a HUGE hopeless romantic, im old fashioned and will always try to impress you.
- I'm, a BIG softie even though I may look a smol bit intimidating, but I'd do just about anything to see you smile or laugh. And yes.., I do mean anything.
~I'm a big goof - I will get up to some silly shenanigans ALL the time, I will crack dumb jokes and send you memes and tik toks just to make you happy, even if its from across the room I'd wait to see your reaction lol.
~I'm extremely loyal, and would never even think of cheating.
~I will cook for you, and clean up too, even around the house, I'm very self productive and don't ask for much. Just don't forget to kiss the cook.
~I'd also love to just cuddle up and watch a movie or read a book together, anything to get us closer. Id try to take you out on dates whenever possible haha. I have a million SUPER romantic date ideas I have but have never had anyone interested enough in me to take out. Here's your chance ;)
~I will always want to share stuff I find interesting with you, and try to share every moment of every day with you. I'm not looking for someone who can only talk for a small amount of time, I want someone who's willing to put in all the effort I put into them back into me, it goes both ways. If I'm "with" someone you are my TOP priority nobody and nothing else would be. You would be the only person I'd truly want to talk to, so rest assured I would NEVER cheat, even more so because no one is interested in me - Hence why I'm here hahaha.
I'm sure there is more to me than this snippet but I cant think of more at the moment haha, so get to know me and find out more about me.
Some of my interests are: Engineering- I'm a nerd. I admit it. I love being technical and hands on, I love building things. All kinds of things, from furniture, machinery, and reverse engineering anything I find. I love learning how things work and trying to improve things.
Music - I prefer music with a very fast pace, or with some very meaningful lyrics I can relate to. I love to sing along to music and songs that have a deep meaning behind it I can sympathize with makes it all the better. Some bands I like are: Bad Omens, Beartooth, Demon Hunter, MIW, I9K - The list goes on. I'm a bit of a metalhead unfortunately.
TV Shows & Movies - I love watching shows, and I'd love to stream some shows and have some E-dates with you, to get to know you, or if you are close to me, maybe we could do it in person. Some shows I like or more of the Fantasy/Sci-Fi, Comedy, Action, stuff like: National Treasure, Halo, BattleBots, Rick and Morty, AHS, Anything Marvel or DC, The Witcher, Wednesday, The Sandman, The Magicians, The Umbrella Academy, ETC.
Gaming - Yes yes I know, Basic guy likes basic stuff. But gaming has been a thing for me since forever. I know most of you wont care or want to hear that, but I'll leave out the specifics on this part unless you are interested in that, MEGA Bonus points if you are.
Here's a lists of Cons to dating me-
~I'm not Ryan Reynolds. Disappointing, I know.
~I will fight you on what goes on pizza lol.
~I'm not rich.., Yet.
~I can't pronounce Worcestershire.
~I'm slightly forgetful, but with good reasoning.
~(Not really a con but- some might disagree) I still have ALL of my firsts, Do with that what you will c:
~I've got an endless pile of love and affection and no one to give it to! What a dilemma! Help me fix it?
Other than that I'll save the rest for a bit more of getting to know each other.
Here's a bit of what I'm looking in you:
~Preferably someone with lots of free time, and loves to chit chat. I'm seriously not interested in getting 1 message a day. Though I understand people get busy, I personally am not willing to try to learn about you and form something with 7 responses a week. Effort gets reciprocated and I appreciate the time you put in me.
~Physically: -I’m not personally attracted to anyone who’s “curvy/ chubby”, I apologize. Not a shallow thing, I just dont have the attraction chemical in my brain for that, I’m sorry. -If you’re shorter than me, thats a plus to me. -I love dimples, if you have those when you smile, bonus points 😊 - I’m not sure what else to put.., but as for nsfw wise find out😂
~I'm a sucker for a different accent other than American, and if you have an Posh English accent you have already won my heart.
~I'm also only really looking for someone within the ages of 18-35. I don't want anyone old enough to be my mom lol.
~I'd prefer (But not a must) people NOT on the other side of the world, as other time zones SUCK. I don't expect to find anyone who also has never had a boyfriend either, but that would be a real plus. I also don't mind a LDR, but I don't want that forever. But it gives us time to get to know each other.
But as for attributes I'm looking for in you:
~Someone who is above all else very very Loyal and would never cheat.
~Someone who is Honest, and will tell me the truth over a little white lie.
~Someone who is Kind & Caring, who'd constantly check on me, and accept me for who I am & help me improve day to day.
~Someone who is trustworthy, and I can count on to keep my secrets safe, or even just help me remember things.., I do tend to be somewhat forgetful.
~Someone who is very Patient and wants to see me succeed and will help me do so, just like I would help you. Even if its small day to day things, I would appreciate your company ANY time.
~I want a partner who is Affectionate, can reciprocate, and loves to snuggle and talk about their day, and what their interests are, and what makes them happy.
~Someone who can admit they get clingy or overprotective is a bonus.
~A partner with good communication is key, if something wrong we have to be able to talk about it.
~A partner who likes to game with me or at least watch me play would be a plus but not a requirement.
~Someone with a good sense of humor and like to joke around, I am a big goof after all and I love to joke around. Sending memes is always appreciated and good to cheer people up too!
~I'd prefer someone with the same music taste, but not a requirement, Plus if you wouldn't mind if I send you love songs occasionally that's a bonus, or sending me some back haha.
~Being willing to voice call is a must, Texting forever is not the way to go. I have to know what your voice is like haha, later on we can video call if you are comfortable with that. I prefer chatting on Discord because Reddit messages of any kind I'm sure you know are unreliable and sucky in general. So please send me your discord if you have one :)
~I would LOVE to see picture of your pets if you have any. Bonus points if it includes your beautiful self haha.
I'm sure there is more I'm looking for but I cant think of it right now haha, I will have to edit this when I think of it.
Please tell me about you as an opener! I told you a good bit about me, now its your turn haha.
Tell me some things like -
~What's your name?
~Where are you from?
~How old are you?
~What are your hobbies / interests?
~What about my post interested you?
~Where is my TV Remote?!
~Selfie? Pet pics?
~Hit me with your best joke or meme :)
~What's your favorite candy?
I'd LOVE to get to know you, and see where things go.
But yeah, I know it was long I'm sorry haha. Send me a message and lets get to know each other! :)

2024.05.14 09:40 Rherose Should I tell my best friends husband she had an affair?

Some context:
Perhaps 10 years ago, my best friend and her boyfriend, let’s call him James, split up. He don’t know the reasons why she just told him she was unhappy. She had actually recently cheated which was a contributory factor but was indeed unhappy for various other reasons. I’ve since found out she cheated more than once. This is not necessarily the information that is playing on my mind.
My friend, let’s call her Leanne, and James split for about 2 years give or take before getting back together. In this 2 years, Leanne had a very intense relationship with somebody she had met new in that time - let’s call him Rick. There were some aspects of physical and emotional abuse from Rick. Eventually they parted ways when Leanne got back with James. He knows at this point about Leanne’s relationship with Rick whilst they were apart.
Perhaps a year or so into being back together, moved in together and happy happy happy. Leanne initiated an affair with Rick. This affair continued for years. She worked away a lot and Rick lived near one of her offices so she found it pretty easy to explain and justify to James. She said she was in love with both Rick & James. I found myself getting caught in the web of lies and lying to both James & Rick to cover her at times. Eventually after some years she split with a Rick and to my knowledge 5 years on they have not kept in contact but Rick did find out she was with James this whole time.
However I do know she has cheated on James numerous other times throughout the course of their relationship since getting back together, numerous one night stands.
Leanne and James are now married with 2 children. To my knowledge there has not been any cheating since getting pregnant with the first child a few years ago. But I have moved away so I am not necessarily privy to all of her life anymore as we don’t talk so much. There’s no bad blood there, just no time to catch up!!
This has recently been weighing on my mind heavily as James is a good guy and I consider him a friend. I feel guilty about helping her cover it up and guilty this poor man is completely oblivious to the fact his now wife cheated on him multiple times, plus had a full on affair.
Do I tell him? Do I do it anonymously and leave them to hash it out? Or just let it go? I don’t know why it’s suddenly so heavy on my mind.
To add: I’m not the only person that knows about the affair. Lots of her friends do.
Thanks in advance!!!

2024.05.14 07:31 hudsonv11 Okafor went to the boat???

So in the first episode when rick confronts okafor he mentions that he saw the phones and the note. The phones were in the bag on the boat. Why would he not take Rick's bag from the boat when he was leaving.
Also in a weird crazy way he's indirectly responsible for his own death because michonne found the boat and then went looking for rick.

2024.05.14 01:44 nachoian Made a sauce that would rival Sarducci 🤌🏻

Made a sauce that would rival Sarducci 🤌🏻
I love cooking, sincerely love cooking. My family already really enjoys the pink sauces I make for pasta, but tonight I made a sauce so good “Sinatra’d even go nuts for it”. Doesn’t look anything like the sauce Rick cooked, but I’m gonna pretend it tastes just like what I made. I keep going around saying “I haven’t tasted sauce like this since Sarducci made it.” I don’t know why I love that line so much, I think I just enjoy the fact Rick is a foodie who knows good cooking. That could extend from Larry Manetti, I hear he put recipes in Aloha Magnum.
Homemade “sun-dried” grape tomatoes (I used an oven), let it marinate in olive oil with a few basil leaves and minced garlic for a day or two. Then I personally crushed them with a mortar and pestle to bring out the flavors, let it all mix in with the olive oil. A little butter in the pan, some more garlic, chili powder, squeeze half a lime, put in the crushed tomato olive oil schlop. Heavy cream and a handful of Parmesan and fresh parsley. Now YOU, TOO 🫵 can cook like Sarducci.

2024.05.13 21:21 AstroRide [HM][SP] Vacations Never Work Out (Part 1)

This short story is a part of the Mieran Ruins Collection. The rest of the stories can be found on this masterpost.
The beach was a symbol of relaxation. It was where children played in the waves while the parents relaxed in the sun. Well, the parents let themselves bake in the sun until they realized they lost their kids. Then, they panicked and searched across the sands annoying everyone. Eventually, a helpful volleyball player showed up with the kids. You thank them until. Wait, why is your spouse staring so long at that volleyball player? Sure, they look like you did younger. Well, more like a young fit version of you. Okay, they looked nothing like you did, and why was your spouse standing so close. This was a disaster. We should've never came here on family vacation.
To most people who haven't had such a dramatic experience, the beach was a nice place. It represented a freedom from modern stresses and a chance to enjoy the sun. Sandcastles lined the sands like an army defending its territory. Shells were collected as if they held monetary value. Such a shame this culture was destroyed by the Mierans.
Humans had always liked to take breaks, but the location was limited by time and resources. When the world was destroyed, the breaks turned into a night where two people guarded the door rather than three. The prime real estate became the pond a few blocks away to keep an eye on the supplies. Tourist traps became rusted as there was a lack of tourists to trap. Except for the dumbest people.
"Hurry up, we are going to be late," Polly yelled. Jim fell down the stairs. He had a beach towel on one arm and a tuxedo on his other.
"What is that for?" Polly grabbed the pants.
"You said bring a swimsuit," Jim said. Polly shook her head.
"Why I am surrounded by idiots." She turned back to the stairs. "Check-in ends at four pm."
"Isn't it your friend who's in charge?" Olivia walked down the stairs carrying a handbag full of vacation essentials. Her dress was loose and flowing.
"He told me that he wouldn't make exceptions," Polly said.
"That makes sense. If you were my friend, I wouldn't make exceptions for you too," Olivia replied. Polly ignored her which angered Olivia.
"Reid! Frida! Get down here," Polly yelled. Frida ran down the stairs. She was most excited about the possibility of hunting. As such, she had a crossbow, a harpoon, and a flare. Her prey wasn't sharks; it was crabs. Reid followed her down in a swimsuit. With every step, he practiced flexing and posing. His body was adequate. His biceps were present, but they didn't bulge. If he held his breath, his torso acquired some definition. In total, he was making a fool of himself.
"I'm ready to mingle." He shimmied at the bottom step. Polly and Olivia reacted with horror while Jim nodded his head.
"We're going to be so popular." Jim put his arm around Reid who shook him off.
"Just me. You can be my wingman," Reid said.
"Sure thing," Jim replied.
"Whatever, let's get going," Polly said. The five of them made their way out of their small house. The road to the vacation was long, and it took a few days travel by foot. They didn't plan on travel time. Fortunately, Frida was skilled at capturing beasts (some of which were mutants) and tried all plants to ensure it wasn't poisonous (Jim tried them as well because Frida was likely immune to all poisons). After their journey, they reached Pacifico City.
It was one of the few cities established after the war. The military ran the country, and Pacfico City wanted to cater to their needs. Multiple resorts sat close to the beach. By the resorts, there shooting ranges and ATVs for pleasure. There was an assortment of bars and restaurants as well. Each had its own signature dish or cocktail. There was one issue. The customers never came.
The upper brass couldn't leave. The new military was disorganized, and vacations were an opportunity to be removed by force. The soldiers were forced to stay by their commanders. If they were going to be miserable, everyone else was going to be miserable as well. The result was a sad city filled with abandoned resorts. The weapons and ATVs were stolen by raiders who put it to better use. The bars and restaurants had their supplies looted, and the workers moved on.
The vacation house in question was a dingy hotel far from the beach. When the five arrived, a man sat behind the desk with his mouth open. A fly flew in and out of it. There was a wall with keys behind him. The man didn't react when they entered. He did perk up when Polly hit the bell on his desk.
"Welcome to Tropical Fun. You missed check-in time," he said.
"Rick, it's me. Can't you make an exception," Polly replied.
"Check-in ends at four. It's half past five." Rick pointed at the clock. Olivia looked down.
"That clock isn't moving," she said. Rick looked down.
"Oh, I've only been working here for a few months. I inherited it from my uncle. He died in a mutant iguana attack," Rick said.
"Sorry for your loss," Polly said.
"Don't be. I hated him." Rick turned around. He gave them two keys. Before arriving, it was agreed that Olivia would get a room by herself. Reid and Polly were okay with this because Jim and Frida slept on the floor. The floor was preferrable when they saw their rooms. Reid's bed was simultaneously too hard and too soft, Polly's was always wet, and Olivia's had mutant bed bugs. The rooms smelled like burnt cabbage. The bathrooms were filled with flies and rodents.
"Well this is a disaster." Reid looked out the window. "There's no one here to enjoy my show."
"Their loss." Olivia was hiding in the other room because she was scared of bugs. She wouldn't let them know.
"No, every cloud has a silver lining." Reid turned with a smile on this face. "We are going to restore this city to its former glory."

2024.05.13 20:17 communityproject605 What's next for the Winners of BKFC 61? Performance reviews plus their next moves.

What's next for the Winners of BKFC 61? Performance reviews plus their next moves.
BKFC 61 is now on the Monday morning drawing board. Jimmie Rivera claimed his highest profile BKFC win and Mike Trizano looked like the new boogeyman of the 155 pound division. What do these main event winners move on to next? Let's take a look at our undercard winners first.
Danny Pettit:
Performance Grade- B
Pettit made his debut opening the card with an interesting fight where Pettit saw his opponent on the canvas from his punches as well as the punches his opponent was throwing at him. A TKO victory is a great way to start his career in the BKFC, but with the caliber of opponent he faced he took too long to seal the victory and ate some wild shots that put him in unnecessary danger.
Who's Next: Quentin Gaskin (1-0 1KO)
Pettit will likely find himself on another undercard as the BKFC moves through the North East later in the year. Gaskin is from New York and also 1-0 in BKFC.
Scott Roberts:
Performance Grade- C
Roberts made his combat sports debut against a veteran of the squared circle and won by doctors stoppage when his opponent suffered an apparent hand injury. Roberts came out swinging and kept the pressure on, but was majorly off balance while chasing Sarro for the finish. That style works in BKFC against lower competition, but Roberts would have been in trouble against a game opponent with the style he fought with at BKFC 61.
What's Next: There is no one at 1-0 on the roster that I'd currently match Roberts with in the 205 pound division. A fight against a debuter on a Prospect Series card makes sense for him.
Patrick Brady:
Performance Grade- A
Brady put on a dominate performance against a durable veteran in Lewis Rumsey. Brady landed hard and often with 5 knockdowns recorded before ending the fight in the 2nd round. Brady looks very promising in a heavyweight division that needs new contenders and fresh faces to shake things up.
Who's Next: Zach Calmus
Brady passed his first test in the squared circle with flying colors. His next adventure into the ring should be against the man who fought right above him on Saturdays card. Calmus brings a ton of experience to the ring and would be a great test to see where Brady stands in the Heavyweight division.
Zach Calmus (4-2 2KO's)
Performance Grade- B
Calmus took his time putting away Connor McKenna in a fight he could have won within the first two rounds. Calmus may not be championship material, but he is the prime example of a veteran gate keeper. He has his place and will be that test a lot of young heavyweights should be prepared to take on if they want to move onto fighting the best in the division.
Who's Next: Patrick Brady (1-0 1KO)
Brady put on a dominate performance against another veteran gatekeeper before Calmus took the ring. Brady is 40 years old and needs to make a quick leap in bare knuckle competition before mother time catches up. Calmus would push Brady to his limits with his BK experience and show us where Brady stands in the heavyweight division.
Rick Hawn:
Performance Grade- A+
Hawn did exactly as he was supposed to against lackluster competition, putting the fight away early in the first. The only downside we can see in Hawn right now is his age. Coming in at 47 with lots of mileage on him from being an Olympian to mixed martial arts fighter, how long does he have left in gas tank? Houston Alexander has shown his ability to stay competitive into his 50's through BKFC and Hawn gives me the impression he could probably do the same.
Who's Next? Ja'Far Fortt (3-1 3KO's)
Fortt is coming off a first round loss to Elvin Brito after winning his first three fights under the BKFC banner. Hawn needs an experienced opponent to see if he can slingshot himself into the elites of the 165 pound division and Fortt offers that door knocking opportunity.
Natalie Gage:
Performance Grade- B
Gage engaged in my opinion the best fight of the night when she went toe to toe with Sarah Click. Both ladies took turns making each other's faces swollen and bloody, before the commission would give us a premature ending due to a cut above Clicks left eye. Gage was starting to come on stronger as the rounds went by and with it being her debut made quite the impression on a lot of viewers. She would grade higher, but there were exchanges where Click was beating her by a wide margin that made Gage look very uncomfortable. With her having the bare knuckle experience under her belt now I'd expect solid fights to come for Gage in a shallow 115 pound women's division.
Who's Next: Crystal Lawson
Lawson came up short in her debut against Crystal Van Wyk but stood tough and exchanged big shots with Crystal for the full five rounds. Lawson can be a big test for Gage's toughness and if these ladies meet it could be a blood bath from two fighters who don't back down.
Ryan Reber:
Performance Grade- C-
Reber stepped into the ring for the 6th time on Saturday and kept his undefeated streak alive. Unfortunately he had his poorest performance to date when his title shot was on the line. Going the distance against a 1-1 opponent, then speaking of coasting during the fight didn't leave a good impression even with a unanimous decision win.
Who's Next: The loser between Kieth Richardson v. Alberto Blas on June 21st.
I was on the Reber hype train to get a title shot after his impressive come from behind victory over Derek Perez, but his latest win against Foye leaves me second guessing whether he is ready to fight someone the caliber of Kieth Richardson. Does he need another tune up fight before going for the gold? I'd like to see him take on the loser of the championship fight in June if that fight is available before a potential title fight for him. You can argue his perfect record leaves him in a title shot only scenario as well.
Mike Trizano:
Performance Grade- A+
The former Ultimate Fighter winner took to the squared circle for the first time against long time BKFC Louie Lopez who accepted the fight on short notice after Trizanos original opponent Derek Campos withdrew from the event. Trizano wasted no time showing he might be the next big splash in the 155 pound division with a nasty highlight knockout in the first round. It's safe to say a lot of eyes are ready to see what Lone Wolf can do against his next opponent.
Who's Next? Howard Davis (5-2 5KO's)
Davis is a star in the 155 pound division, Trizano wants his place. This a top tier fight to make that could easily be a main event for a Fight Night card later this year. Davis lost to Louie Lopez by doctors stoppage about 2 years ago before a nice winning streak was interrupted by the reigning champion Kai Stewart. Davis didn't stay away long scoring a mauling knockout win over Sean Wilson in March. Davis v. Trizano sounds like a highlight waiting to happen.
Jimmie Rivera:
Performance Grade: B+
Rivera stepped into this main event with title contendership on his mind he unfortunately ran into Daniel Straus who had no interest in getting in a war with Rivera and was happy to box with him over a long 5 rounds. Rivera won 95% of the striking exchanges while showing slick boxing ability, a cut over his left eye made me wonder if we were going to see another Click v. Gage scenario but the cutman was able to keep it under control until the judges scorecards were read all in favor of Rivera.
Who's Next? The loser between Kai Stewart(C) v Bryan Duran 6/21/2024
Rivera looked impressive, but not nearly enough to give him a title shot. He is now 2-1-1 in the squared circle but has really failed to put on any jump out of your seat fights yet. Jimmie needs a highlight performance to guarantee his next fight is against the champion. The way to the top of that mountain should come through the loser of the championship fight set for this June between the defending champion Kai Stewart and Bryan Duran.

2024.05.13 17:17 Pleasant-Top5515 I loved season 9 but I can see how some might hate it.

I think the protagonist leaving the show ALWAYS turns some people off no matter how it's done.
Personally, I immensely enjoyed the character growth and dynamics between characters but the gap Rick left is definitely huge.

2024.05.13 15:49 HillbillyEulogy An Open Letter To Rick Beato.

Dear Rick. May I call you "Rick"? Okay, cool.
As we are both professional audio/music producers, YouTube often suggests your videos to me. Honestly, I had listened to a few some years back and simply thought, "eh, it's not for me" and tapped the old "not interested" option which, for some reason, YouTube interprets as "show me more."
While deep in a lengthy snake soldering/crimping project yesterday, a video of yours came on. Being mid-solder joint, I decided, "ah well, go ahead then."
The reason I'm writing is to challenge a frequent refrain of yours that is an arbitrary dividing line between pre-y2k music that was largely still recorded in the traditional methods of the day versus the more modern, de rigueur use of beat quantization, pitch correction, vocal alignment, extensive processing, etc.
Now, your commenters tend to lob a lot of "ok boomer"-type insults, waving your perspective away as an old man yelling at the clouds. Which is, of course, fairly lazy and doesn't posit anything about 'the new way' versus the golden days of yore.
I have a different issue with this. Your argument is intellectually dishonest and I know that you know that I know this. For one thing, genres have evolved to openly embrace this sound. Rather than trying to soap up less-than-perfect performances by untalented players, it's a maximalist approach that is gleeful overuse of these techniques.
Sure, we can blame some of this on the tools to do so becoming automated processes that don't require much actual knowledge, understanding, or technique by the engineer / producer. That's fair. And I actually agree that most modern rock mixes are the very embodiment of "the dog catching the car". We've reached the mirage of sonic perfection and found it often to be lifeless, lazy, and uninspired.
But you're repeatedly hammering at the point that, prior to the DAW-ification of mordern recording, the performances were never edited, drums weren't quantized, vocalists weren't pitch-corrected or aligned to be in unison. That's simply not true. You know it's not true. We did it all the time.
I actually learned how to work on tape machines, though admittedly during a time (mid-90's) where I was a huge advocate and early adopter for ProTools. If you were to pull out the original multitrack drum reels (don't forget to bake the reel) for many of the recordings you hold up as "authentic", the tell-tale "thwap thwap" of splicing tape passing over the tape machine's rollers would plainly state otherwise.
During the 'first wave' of sonic perfection in the 1980's, drummers were recorded to click tracks almost by default. Drum sounds were retriggered in the 1980's all the time. Ever listen to a Mutt Lange-produced Def Leppard record? Those were the precursor to modern metal production - albeit doing so took a fair bit of intuition and know-how. You know how I know this? Because I learned these techniques from the people who did them all the time.
Pitch correction and vocal edits was very much a thing in the tape era as well. Samplers / sampling delay units were often pulled in to duty with a MIDI sequencer synchronized to the 2" tape via SMPTE. A great performance with a bunk note? That was easily solved with an Eventide UltraHarmonizer and a MIDI CC message. Was it more difficult than "hey, siri, fix my shit"? Of course it was. We solved problems back then. It was fun.
Let's take "Nevermind" by Nirvana for example. You have repeatedly held this LP aloft as representing a 'truth' in music. And while it certainly isn't an edit fest, it's documented that not only was a click track used occasionally, but Digi SoundTools was brought in to save the timing on the closing song. Also, while Sound City, it's booming A room, and their hallowed Neve 80-series certainly impart a nice wooly analog quality, it was mixed by Andy Wallace. Andy makes no apologies nor secrets about many of his mix techniques and they definitely are making use of many of the tools you disavow.
I've gone on too long about this already, so let me just leave you with this. All that is old is not gold. "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" is FM radio drivel. All that is new is not inherently bad. Check out the new Whores LP "War". There are arguably some modern production techniques in there, but it is a ferocious slab of fearless rock and roll. I even agree with you about these techniques being used by default has long since eclipsed its "sell by" date. But you have released dozens of videos harping on this singular point and are knowingly being both divisive and pedantic for clicks.
Hey, as a fellow former Ithacan, I'm not here to attack you. I just want to help. Us old people can be a tremendous resource to 'the kids' by passing on some of the sage wisdom that comes only from real world "doing", not hour after hour of hack YouTube "content". You're not moving things forward by insisting everything should go ten steps back.
Just a thought, Mr Beato. Have a good day.
- bc
TL;DR: You're holding on too tight. What is once was, it will never be. Be the change you want to see in the world.

2024.05.13 08:52 Low-Entropy Rap, Rock and Gabber? - The influence of Rick Rubin on the evolution of Hardcore Techno

There has always been a huge amount of rumors floating around in the hardcore techno scene; but one of the hottest takes I ever heard was that, supposedly, Rick Rubin was a huge fan of Gabber in the 90s, had the desire to make this very sound big in the US of A, and called up the "big dutch labels" at that time to make a deal and sort things out; but they were confused by this, so they declined in the end. Not sure how legit this rumor is - it originates from the uppermost echelon of the HC world, so it might actually be quite true. It's a shame this did not work out, because it would have been interesting to see a huge Gabber scene on American soil growing under the reign of rick; and if Gabber went big in the US, it would surely have conquered the world from there. Would make an interesting plot for an alternate history novel. But even though that, "in our timeline", it did not happen, there is reason to believe that Rick Rubin had an important and lasting influence on Hardcore Techno nonetheless
So let's begin. I don't think I need to introduce Mr. Rubin, but in case you lived under a rock (maybe the 3rd rock from the sun), you can read up about him here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Rubin But, what is his connection to Hardcore Techno? First, the best known track with Hardcore origins worldwide is probably "I like it loud". Originally by Marc Acardipane, it went into platinum-like spheres after being "re-released" together with Scooter. This track can be heard during football matches (both american and "real" football), TV adverts, on the radio, at restaurants, cafés, and street parades and festival, I even heard it being chanted at rock concerts.
Some would argue the scooter "version" is not so hardcore anymore - that's why I said "a track with hardcore *origins*". Also, the original hardcore version is quite popular, too, and when the famous melody is being chanted by people, does it make a difference? the history of the track is quite interesting. the line "my radio, believe me, i like it loud" (misunderstood by scooter as "maria, believe me...") is taken from a rap song by LL Cool J; that song was produced for the movie "krush groove", which is a half-biographic, half-fictionalized account of the def jam label, of rick rubin and russel simmons (who both ran the label in the beginning), and the artists connected to the label and the scene. quite a few artists play themselves in the movie, like run dmc or sheila e.; and rick rubin is actually portrayed by - himself - too!
the story runs that ll cool j was never meant to be in the movie, but that he kept gate-crashing the shooting of the film, talking to the crew and insisting that his music was to be included, until they said "well, damn it, let's give him a chance". ironically, in the movie he is shown busting an audition too, and then being given a record deal by rubin and his crew. did marc first hear that song by watching this movie? could well be the case, as it was an infamous movie in its time - at least to listeners of rap music. either way, it's a rick rubin production and the sample landed inside this gabber hit. But it's of course not just about this track - when one takes a closer look it turns out that many, many hardcore and gabber tracks use samples that originate from the hands of rick rubin and his label (we'll get back to that later).
keep in mind that, unlike in many other genres, samples provide the backbone for many hardcore productions. it's a 90% "voiceless" genre without singers and vocalists, so the "voice" of a specific track often comes from a vocal sample. these samples set the mood, topic, theme of the track then, and in many cases they end up defining the very track. And i don't think it's an accident or coincidence that so many samples originate from rick rubin productions. if we look at his life as a producer, we see that he had his roots in hardcore punk / rock, then switched to hardcore rap by the mid 80s, only to later "switch" back to extreme forms of guitar music, like thrash metal etc again; and going in *any* direction from then on. these drastic "jumps" from opposite genres to each other confused many people in the 80s; and when rick was asked about it, his reply went along the lines of: he doesn't care if it's rap or rock, as long as it's hardcore. wouldn't it make sense then if he does not care whether it's hardcore rock, hardcore rap, or *hardcore techno*?
but leaving that aside. rick is known as a producer who does not just push knobs (actually, he claims he never pushed knobs at all), but also gets directly involved in the songwriting and other aspects of production, changing lines of lyrics occasionally, and generally infusing the songs and tracks of his artists with the thoughts of his own mind, too. And I make the hot claim that a certain "hardcore attitude" can be found in his productions, and thus it would only be reasonable that so many hardcore techno producers fell in love with his releases, decided to sample them, and that this 'hardcore legacy' lives on in numerous tracks and helped to shape and define the scene! (and, in my opinion, many songs that have rick rubin as a producer still sound more "hardcore" then quite a few actual 'hardcore techno' tracks of today).

take it like you want - but i believe it to be the truth.

2024.05.13 08:49 iidd_ Why does a central galactic government need to exist?

In many works of science fiction, there is a central government which controls lots of different planets or star systems. Sometimes it's just a small section of a galaxy like in Star Trek; or, like in Dune or Star Wars, it's a whole galaxy.
My question for you is: whose interests does this actually serve?
In Star Wars, for example, there is a government (either the Republic or the Empire) which controls most of the galaxy, whose seat of power lies in the technologically and economically advanced "Galactic Core".
People in mid and outer rim planets benefit from a galactic central government, because through infrastructure, laws and anti-piracy enforcement, they can trade goods and resources that otherwise wouldn't be available to them. They pay their taxes to the galactic government, and in return they get all these nice economic benefits. Makes sense. It's essentially space European Union with an army.
But what do the people of Coruscant gain from being able to control shitty planets on the outer rim? It can't be labour power, because they have robots that can do basically anything for them anyway. It can't be manufactured goods, because the productive forces in the Core are far more advanced than the rest of the galaxy, so they can produce literally anything they want already. It can't be raw resources, because asteroids are everywhere and can be cheaply towed at FTL speeds. It can't be energy, because there are millions of stars in a region of space as dense as the Core where you can just build solar collectors to get infinite free energy. Planets like Utapau and Jedha have basically nothing to give to planets like Alderaan and Coruscant that they can't already find or make themselves.
So what do the people of the Core actually gain from there being a Galactic Republic/Empire? Why aren't the people of Coruscant just sitting around playing video games all day? Why does anyone in the Core have a job when you can just get robots to do everything for you?
These kinds of contradictions should be causing untold political strife in the Core, the kind that would make for a really interesting story. There should be a major unemployment crisis, people turning to violence and political extremism as a means of dealing with the way things are. Star Wars sometimes hints towards this kind of thing with Coruscant's criminal underbelly, but it's lacking an explanation as to why this has been the status quo for literally thousands of years. The proverbial pot of water has been over-boiling for literally tens of thousands of years, and nothing has happened. And moreover, these are the kinds of social problems that would make sense for a backdrop to the rise of a crazy dictator. But we get none of this in the prequel trilogy; Palpatine wants to be in charge simply because he enjoys being mean to people and sitting in a fancy chair; people vote for him to be king of space because he uses evil magic to manipulate them. It's really boring when you think about it, especially given the obvious political problems that are present in the way the Star Wars galaxy is run.
I think a more sensible approach to this kind of space opera sci-fi would be to take a historical materialist perspective. Planets which are highly developed have no need to interact with other planets. They already have near infinite energy and minerals. Some of their people might leave to explore or settle new lands, but the majority of these advanced civilisations would be spending their days sitting around in floating chairs and playing video games all day while robots do all the work for them. For these civilisations, the need for market economies, imperialism, or human labour would be completely gone, and people would be incredibly pissed off if they still had to have jobs and pay for food, shelter and luxury goods.
Planets settled by these civilisations - let's call them "pioneer worlds" - would develop pretty quickly, and eventually end up like the Core worlds, with their video games, their robots and their floating chairs. But before they reach that point, they may have a need for trading with other similarly-developed civilisations - either other pioneer worlds or just less developed naturally-occurring civilisations. It's these polities which would band together and form economic unions like the Galactic Republic. They might even wage war on the Core worlds to plunder their advanced technology, which provides another interesting avenue for plot tension.
I think the one justification for the central galactic governments of Star Wars lies in the Force. We know that these states have been invariably controlled, directly or indirectly, by Force users (Jedi and Sith). The Force opens up lots of interesting kinds of resources which are uniquely rare in a way that real-world resources aren't, such as kyber crystals, Force-sensitive species, and areas of the galaxy with a strong Force presence. There also might be a somewhat altruistic motive to the Jedi and Sith rulers of the galaxy — maybe they think they are the only ones who can ensure the civilisations of the rim will develop and prosper, or perhaps not develop at all, for whatever reason?
When it comes to Star Trek, the Federation exists for similarly idealistic reasons: the pursuit of knowledge and the preservation of peace and prosperity. But again, I wonder why the bad guys in Star Trek even really care to wage war on other civilisations, in a universe which is literally infinite, where they have the technology to manufacture whatever they want, and the space to do whatever they want without being bothered by other people. Funnily enough, I think that Rick and Morty demonstrated this idea quite well in that one episode where Rick has an entire planet that he uses to go to the toilet. The universe is really big, and if you had a spaceship that could take you anywhere you want really quickly, you could do things like terraforming an entire planet so you have a private place to poop.
So when you take economic/material incentives to account, ideology is basically the only reason why sufficiently advanced civilisations would want to control crappy backwater planets like Tatooine or Jedha. I think this post-scarcity kind of setting has great potential to focus on things like ideology, philosophy, different ways of thinking, etc. Meanwhile, it takes extra justification to explain why you're conquering inhabited planets instead of mining asteroids.
I think space operas, if they want to have a central galactic government, should acknowledge the fact that this is kind of an unnatural thing which is acting against all these social forces, which will necessarily cause political conflict. The space kings or space wizards in charge of everything might like how the status quo lets them play with their toys, but the ordinary people living in the Core ought to be fed up with having to share power and resources with irrelevant backwater planets of the mid rim and outer rim, all the while having to work and live in poverty conditions in a universe that is about as post-scarcity as you can get.

2024.05.12 21:49 FancyFireDrake Yang in the Lostbelts Arc 1: How to safe a Timeline and talk to Ravens

Russian Lostbelt
Lost Jumper: Esdeath
Sin: Created the eternal blizzard
It seemed like a very twisted kind of coincidence that this would be their first target.
Even after all these years Yang remembered her first Jump. Including the first person to truly provide a challenge for her on her chain. Esdeath, the social darwinist empress of ice and fear.
This entire country had Esdeath written all over it. Without a empire to reign her in or direct her, Esdeath made battle and strenght an even bigger part of herself. The constant blizzard, lethal to all live but the Yaga, who were further kept on their toes with mutated demonic beasts and pushed to further evolve beyond what they should be capable of... all a sign of a woman trying to find an ever greater challenge.
In a way that could be beneficial. Esdeath was a true believer in the strong rule the weak. If she was beaten... maybe she could be reasoned with.
Good grief if her first Jump self could listen to her. Trying to redeem Esdeath.
But that was but one facet of what Yang was hoping to accomplish. Fortunately she had an idea.
In a small cave near Yaga Moscow, near Ivan the Terrible who no doubt needed to be pacified as well, they managed to build a base after some days of searching. The tools in the Gates of Babylon she wielded made it easy to defend and surprisingly liveable. But even more importantly the vast assortment of mankinds treasures was good building material.
She traded ideas with Taiyang, leading to... this.
Her tinkering with something that looked like a shoebox.
"Please remind me again what exactly it is you are making there." Corax asked next to her. The mysterious masked person was always looking at her it felt like. What were they a self proclaimed bodyguard?
"I got the idea from a guy called Rick Sanchez." Yang explained, not ceizing her tinkering for even a moment. "Typical supergenius. he made a universe to power his car."
"That seems... over the top."
"And somehow still inefficient and immoral. I had to strongarm him into taking advantage of the stars he made instead of gaslighting a planet into stepping on machines 24/7 to produce electricity. Rick and Morty is a weird Jump. But hey got out of it making an alcoholic asshole a little less nihilistic and shattering a multiversal prison so eh... good with the bad."
"...You are surprisingly intelligent." Corax spoke in an attempt to continue the conversation, unsure how else to reply it seems. "Well you know, I guess I always had a thing for building stuff. Ember Celica, Bumblebee. When I started to go into a place that had Mechs and became friends with an army of androids... I guess I slowly slipped into a tech/magitec build."
"I can see it has its uses, if a pocket universe can be made from it."
"Its kinda all the same at one point. Magic, technology, just a matter of what you preffer calling it at certain levels." Yang said, adjusting some more calculations.
"And how exactly do you hope a pocket universe can help us?"
"Basically by being a vacuum cleaner." Yang explained a bit too offhanded. "Once we fell the Tree the timeline needs something to maintain it. Rhongomyniad had the capacity of supporting singularities that lack even a Holy Grail. I just reverse engineered the phenomen and made it an inherent feature of this Box. Once the timeline dissapears, the Box will suck it up and locate it inside of a barren Planet, premade and waiting to have something planted on it."
"That is... a lot of effort." Corax commented to which Yang could only laugh. "I hope it gets easier with time. I still have to make six more for the other Lostbelts."
The masked individual hummed in what Yang guessed was contemplation. "What? I can HEAR you thinking."
"Do you think this really is the best solution?" Corax asked. "It takes so long and this timeline was deemed unsustainable."
"I mean what else do you think we should do."
"When we shared our most recent purchases, you said you combined Laevatein with the rings of burned history."
"Yes?" Yang already didnt like where this was going.
"Its a useful combination, especially with your potent fire abilities. And with the Rings turning everything it destroys into energy to use... and Laevatein having enough power to destroy a whole Lostbelt-"
"Corax." the blonde said with a warning tone. "You better not be implying what I THINK your implying."
"...We dont know what else is waiting for us. And you may actually be the weakest of us in a straight up fight. And the chainbreakers have it out for you specifically. Yang you need every bit of power you can get especially with Adam-"
"NO!" Yang snapped, eyes red in warning. "I am NOT going to kill this entire timeline."
Corax was quiet but through the Mask Yang thought she saw sympathy of all things. "...Its a mercy kill. Yang the Yaga of this World, all life in this world, is suffering. Patxi said it himself. They dont know joy. They know nothing but struggle. Their only good quality is strenght-"
"Which is EXACTLY why I will not stop at preserving the timeline. As soon as the world is save I will get rid of this blizzard and work my way through there." Yang insisted.
"..Why?"
"Because that is..." "What Ruby would do" "what a Jumper is SUPPOSED to be. The thing these chainbreakers cant wrap their head around. We have the opportunity to be the embodiment of playground rules, leave a place better than you found it in ways indescribable. Because of a World is in pain it doesnt mean you should destroy it. I mean what do you expect me to blow up my Remnant instead of trying to save it?"
"Of course not." Corax insisted. "But I fear that you are trying to do too much. I mean even your insistence on trying to reform the Jumpers? You are spreading yourself thin."
"If we just kill them we, again, prove the people who put us here right."
"Yang this is ESDEATH. Unanimously the worst person alive in her original world. Didnt you kill her once already?"
Yang halted, putting down the box as she closed her eyes. Corax continued speaking. "Some people are beyond saving."
"Who decides that?" the Huntress questioned. "What?" came Corax dumbfounded reply.
"WHO decides when someone is beyond redemption?"
"Look around what she has done to this world."
Yang was quiet for a moment, looking right into Corax mask, almost piercing it with her purple irises. "She is not the only one who made mistakes."
Corax could be heard sighing. "Yang you can not possibly compare your own shortcomings to Esdeaths active malice."
"Than how about we compare power."
the masked Jumper raised an eyebrow. "Power?"
"How would you power? I define it as your ability to affect the world around you, in contrast to strenght where you yourself can change how to be affected by the world. Power can come in many forms. Soft like reputation and social influence. Hard like punching a mountain to rubbles. But beyond all that... power gives you opportunites. A powerful person is not someone who kills or terrifies others. A truly powerful person they can change the world through... mercy."
Corax, taken aback by her reasoning, hesitated to speak further at first. "But if mercy is not an option?"
"It is ALWAYS an option. Just one you need to try a bit harder for."
"I dont know if Esdeath will agree."
"I will still TRY." Yang said and seemingly trying to make it the final note of this conversation went back to working on the Box.
"...Maybe you should... you know..." Quil asked in the back of Ravens mind. The masked Jumper sighed.
"Does she remind you of Raven?"
Yang dropped her wrench at the question, perplexed looking at Corax. Unknown to her just what Corax... RAVEN... had asked. "What?"
"From what I know from the RWBY Universe Raven is a social darwinist as well isnt she? bandit tribe leader? She... abandoned you."
Yangs mouth moved but no words came out, before she blinked... finally ending in a dry laugh. "Congrats you know one of the few facts the entire Multiverse seems to know about my world. Thats like a absolute point practically."
Yang didnt notice how Corax seemed to flinch. "Is this about Raven? Are you... hoping that if you redeem Esdeath it somehow... will bring her back? Or to help you work on your emotions with someone who only values strenght?"
The huntress looked bluntly at Corax before sighing. "Okay since this is what you want to talk about lets talk. Let me explain to you what Raven Branwen is to me."
Corax waite din anticipation, the few seconds in between words feeliing like an eternity. Maybe... maybe if... if what? What did Raven WANT Yang to say? That she missed her? that she hated her? Yang was always very passionate, wearing her emotions on her sleeve. Any response could-.
"Absolutely nothing."
"...What?"
"What?"
Yangs face was resembling one that tried to best desrcibe the specific shade of white a room had. So... utterly unaffected.
"Raven Branwen is someone I used to dedicate my entire life to finding. I stayed awake at night wondering what I could have done wrong."
"You didnt do anything wrong I did!"
"I desperately wanted to see her again... to the point I nearly got the person I love the most in EVERY universe killed. If Qrow had not found us... I could have gotten me and my sister killed that night. And you know what the worst of it all is? Just... how stupid I actually was? Why should I even waste any miniscule neuron in my brain to Raven? A woman who left people who loved her behind to join some bandit tribe and cause untold misery."
Yang rolled her eyes, grabbing a nearby can of hot cocoa to warm herself up.
"If you have people in your life who love you, who care for you, who want to be with you... its so stupid to want to be with someone who isnt any of these things. And honestly I HAVE those. I have them in abundance actually!" Yang said with a small laugh, as if she couldnt believe her luck. "I mean Aziza basically became my second mom. Than there is Tai... dad... well... you know. My companions. The various other Jumpers who became mentors to me or parental figures. After spending my early childhood dying of thirst I am practically drowning now." she smiled, takinga sip of the warm liquid.
"I dont need Raven. I never needed her in my life. And honestly? I have better things to worry about. Much bigger things. I am not projecting anything onto Esdeath. For Raven I just feel... nothing."
Yang looked sympathically at Corax, unaware that she was talking to her own mother. "So... sorry if you were hoping for some deep emotional conversation but that is the wrong topic for me."
Raven said nothing, grateful for the mask of anonimity. "...I see. Im... sorry."
"Dont be." Yang shrugged. "Look I get what you are trying to do. And frankly I think I know what your deal is, even if I dont know who is behind that mask." she spoke, giving a playful tap to the mask. "You did something wrong in the past. Probably see whatever you did reflected in me and dad. And if you want to talk about your issues how your probably trying to make amends by all means do... but you dont need to take any issues I have as a front for it because really... I have a lot of issues but I had enough therpaists by now. And Raven is one issue I REALLY dont have anymore."
Handing Corax the thermos can, Yang prepeared to go back to the Box and work.
"...I think i bring this to Tai. Also see if he wants to switch guard duty."
"Go ahead." Yang smiled at her, before zoning in on her work.
Not seeing the tears forming behind Ravens mask as she walked away.
XXXXXXXXXX
Across the camp Taiyang sighed, he hadn't been able to resist listening in on the conversation especially not when he knew who was behind that mask... he knew where Yang was coming from and knew there was no malice intended?
How could there be when she didn't even know she was addressing the topic of conversation? But what he did know for sure was that in a single stroke any progress Raven had made in convincing herself to tell Yang her true identity had been wiped clean.
He gave her a sad, slightly forced smile as she brought him the thermos- "Thank you Corax"
Tai pats the ground next to him "Sit with me for a minute, I could use the company"
With Yang in the Camp and undoubtedly hearing everything they said Tai couldn't offer his full sympathies- his assurances that he didn't feel the same way his daughter did... and he certainly couldn't share the comfort having her with him had brought throughout everything that had happened.
But he could be there for Yang and Raven both and that was everything he had ever wanted even back home.
"Of course...." And... in that small way, as the masked Raven simply sat down and silently grieved over what she lost... he did manage to do that.

2024.05.12 19:13 StaticOTI George Strait ~ The Cowboy Rides Away Live from AT&T Stadium

George Strait - The Cowboy Rides Away: Live from AT&T Stadium June 7, 2014 - ATT&T Stadium Arlington, TX USA *** Enjoy the full concert FREE @ bit.ly/georgestraittcra *** "The King of Country Rides Away - with every legend by his side" by R. Dale Roth 2024-05-12
On a smokin' hot Saturday night, June 7 2014, a massive north Texas crowd of dedicated country music fans crammed into AT&T Stadium to say goodbye to the king of country music, George Strait. After 30 years of making some of the best music in the genre, recording more number one hits than the Beatles, and making every woman south of the Mason-Dixon swoon, there could have been no more fitting farewell for King George.
You couldn't tune your radio to a country station within 50 miles of the metroplex without hearing a George Strait song. Social media were clogged with excited updates from people who had tickets and envious posts from those who didn't. Strait may still continue to perform and record after this tour, but his most dedicated fans weren't willing to risk missing out on seeing the legend live in concert one last time.
With 60 number one hits, Strait had an overwhelming body of work to draw from for the show. As a result, it proved a marathon of over 40 of his biggest hits, 20 of those preserved on film. Everyone in that crowd was listening for their personal favorite Strait song, and I would guess that most of them heard theirs.
Hundreds of trailers, tents, and RVs full of beer-drinking folks in cowboy boots filled the parking lots in anticipation of Strait's final show. Truth be told, there were probably more people tailgating George Strait than the NFL's Dallas Cowboys see in an entire season. Some of the people didn't even have tickets to the show, they were just there to be part of what was perceived as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
"Once in a lifetime" really isn't much of an exaggeration. King George was joined by 12 of the biggest acts in the genre, each capable of selling out stadiums in their own right. When George played the very first event at then-Cowboys Stadium with Reba McEntire a few years ago, 60,000 fans were in attendance. This show, there were over 100,000 people in the crowd, more than any other indoor concert in history.
Aside from the record-setting attendance, it certainly felt like you were part of something historic. When Strait walked down a red carpet to take the stage, the entire stadium was on its feet. The noise from the crowd was deafening, but a deep reverence hung thick in the air, the kind of respect only a true icon could command. It became immediately clear that this show was more than just a concert; it was a cultural event. We were all at the church of country music, and King George was leading worship.
After decades on the road, Strait was a finely tuned machine on stage. From the opening notes of the first song, "Check Yes or No," the entire audience was wrapped up in King George. People were dancing in their seats and in the aisles, holding hands with their sweethearts, and most notably, singing along with every word to every song.
It was also clear that these songs were more than just music to that audience; they were personal. As cliche as it may sound, these albums are the soundtrack to his fans' memories. In the truest sense of the word, Strait is a troubadour. The couple sitting in front of me danced to "I Cross My Heart" at their wedding, and I saw more than one little girl's dad with tears in his eyes during "I Saw God Today."
Strait isn't a publicly political man, but that doesn't mean he's without principles. Halfway through the show, he gave a beautiful, mortgage-free home to Army Sgt. Leroy Petry, a Medal of Honor recipient who was wounded in combat in Afghanistan. Through a partnership with the Wounded Warrior Foundation, Strait has provided a home for a wounded veteran at each stop on his tour.
When he played "I Believe," a tribute to the victims of the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting, Strait's teary eyes had even the tough guys all choked up. Even though it was a farewell, most of this show wasn't at all sad. It was grateful. Strait took multiple opportunities to express thanks to his Ace in the Hole Band, his contemporaries joining him up on stage and the thousands of fans in his audience. After 30 years of being on top, Strait is as humble as he's ever been.
The generational diversity of the crowd gave me hope for country music's future, especially when you consider how many of the fans in that audience knew all the words to Strait songs that were recorded long before they were born. This was a crowd that had a respect for country music's glory days and great hopes for its future -- a crowd that wants fewer Nashville gimmicks, more great songwriting and guitar picking.
It was almost as if Strait had customized the show to make it perfect for each individual person who was there. I'm not sure that there is any other artist alive who has a better command of both their craft and the desires of the audience.
As the set began to wind down, no one wanted it to end. The set list played as Strait's musical history, but everyone kept hoping for just one more song. There wasn't anyone skipping out early to beat the crowds. Nobody cared about sitting in the godawful traffic after the show, they just wanted to see more Strait.
There will ever be a better showcase of great country music than that night's encore, at least not outside of Nashville. It included all of Strait's superstar support acts, including Jason Aldean, Alan Jackson, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Eric Church, Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Miranda Lambert and Kenny Chesney.
Fittingly, Strait and his guests ended the night with "The Cowboy Rides Away." Even though there is likely still more to come from Strait, like the three records left on his deal with MCA, Saturday night still marked the end of the era. After 30 years of almost non-stop touring, Strait has hung up his proverbial spurs.

Two titans of traditional country music on one stage! Expect a classic performance that honors the genre's roots and celebrates the timelessness of its most powerful songs.

16. I'll Always Remember You

17. Ocean Front Property (with Kenny Chesney)

2024.05.12 17:54 Hot_Designer_Sloth What I wish I new about getting around in Jamaica

This is what I learned about getting around in Jamaica. Please note that I am not Jamaican and I only spent 15 days there, but we would have seen a lot more if we had known this before getting there.
Taxis
A lot of sources will tell you to only take red plate taxis, and some will specify JUTA taxis. But they won’t tell you why, or that there is a difference.
So:
So if your hotel shuttle has a green plate, don’t worry, it makes sense. It means that it only shuttles clients back and forth and doesn’t pick people up from the street.
JUTA (Jamaica Union of Travellers Association ) means that this taxi is licensed to pick up tourists. Usually it means that they will quote you prices in USD, usually 20 or occasionally 10USD for local destinations and it can be up to 200USD or more if you want to get far away, for example from Negril directly to Treasure Beach.
These are chartered taxis and they will pick you up and take you directly there. They will not pick up other passengers. Usually JUTA is written somewhere on the taxi and I also have seen some have a Chartered sign in the windshield. They are often but not always the ones who will hustle you the most if you are in a touristy area.
Route Taxis also have a red plate but are not meant for tourists. They often have small text on the sides, in front the the front door that say where they operate but the likeliness of you being able to read these while they zip past is very low.
Route taxis basically go back and forth between 2 fixed points and pick up and let out people along the way. They will pick up as many people as they can fit, and often, they will fit more than you think possible. They have fixed starting and ending points, usually a gas station or a plaza and that end point can be start point of another route so you can hop off one and get on with the next leg of your journey. [Edit- I was told it was not the reason: My understanding is that they could get in trouble for picking up tourists and...] we have been asked to get out a block before the end point because police were around.
You can also get on by standing on the sidewalk somewhere along their way and waving at them. Be sure to ask for a price before you get in and confirm destination to be sure they don’t try to make you pay chartered rates. I have paid anywhere from 140 to 360 JMD per person per segment, 200 is average.
For some reason, they will ask you where you are going and will resist telling you where THEY are going, which I found really weird, especially when I wanted to know what the end of the route was because I wasn’t sure. They are always in a hurry, because they don’t make money when they don’t pick up people. Sometimes a JUTA taxi may pick you up for Route taxi rate because they are empty, we even had a kind gentleman (hi Mike!) give us a free ride because he was running an errand while waiting for his chartered clients who were partying at Rick’s café.
Local Buses
Buses have a similar concept except they are bigger, fit more people and go further. They also can have different starting and end points than route taxis.
For example, you might have a bus that goes from Ocho Rios to MoBay but by route taxi you will have to do Ochi-Discovery Bay, D-Bay-Falmouth and Falmouth-MoBay for the same result. The main difference is the waiting time at each transfer.
When you get to a starting point, a lot of people will hustle you and try to make you get in. It’s worth having a look at their taxi to see if people are already sitting in it. The faster it fills in, the faster it leaves.
If you have trouble figuring out starting points, routes and rates, try asking hostel/resort employees or other sympathetic passerby. We got great tips from a guy getting off a bus and seeing all buses we were trying to flag down were full. He’s the one who told us about the route taxi alternative back to MoBay. Locals can also tell you about tips, such as some places where you need to point towards your destination because there are 2 bus routes that go by and they won’t stop if you point to the destination where they aren’t going. I have also had locals warm up to me considerably when I asked about route taxis because they see you aren’t snotty and trying to avoid the locals.
Knutsford Express
They have a website, you can see how many seats are left, you buy your tickets, you show up 30 minutes in advance, they will load your luggage under the carriage. Comfy, has bathroom, A/C, wifi may or may not work. Even when it said that there were no seats left I never say it really full.
If I was going pretty far, say MoBay/Kingston, I would 100% take the Knutsford, it’s pretty affordable and worry-free.
It may seem like they don’t go to your destination but pull out your map and compare the map with the destinations in the drop down (the site has no map and it’s kinda bare.) For example, the destination for Ocho Rios is called Drax Hall, not Ocho Rios and no Ocho Rios RIU. You can take a route taxi from Drax Hall to downtown Ochi easy peasy or take a chartered taxi if you aren’t ready for route taxis yet.
I have to note that we did this as 2 people with 2 backpacks each (1 carry on size, 1 personal item size) and I am not sure I would try route taxi hopping with full sized suitcases.
I hope this helps. And if anyone has corrections to make, I would like to read them.

2024.05.12 15:15 WilhelmFink83 Am I resilient enough for the job?

LENGTHY POST
As a copper with just over 2.5 years in, and having had to essentially have a breakdown to leave the DE DC, I can only applaud my colleagues who stuck with it throughout..
I love being a police officer. On days where I am flying, and my confidence is up and I can see some small difference I make, I really love it, despite the larger organisational issues.
I joined in 2021, fairly confident. Throughout initial training, I had the usual self doubts in myself as all new officers do, and the self-criticism when things didn't come naturally. I pushed on.
-By the time I got to CID I was drowning. I broke a little. Luckily, my supportive DA skipper got me back on to his team after 5 weeks off with anxiety, and I was exited from the DC process. I have been a DV PC since, to present day, and signed off finally as a substantive officer.
Long story short, I am now seeing PCs coming through my section similar to myself, who just seem to have this absolute resilience of smashing through and cracking on, whereas I needed a reset.
Whereas I am now having the crippling doubts again, that I suck because things happened the way they did, and other teams in the future (eg response) may not have me, and paranoia that I have a reputation for maybe being lazy or workshy.
I should add that I have since had another MH wobble in Jan 2024, and am on restricted duties under review by our occ health team.
Cheers in advance 👍

2024.05.12 13:46 marshenwhale Why did the show make Negan so much more evil?

So there's a lot of discussion around Negan and how he has a redemption and whether he deserved it and all of that, but honestly my issue with them trying to redeem show Negan is that the comic version of Negan is way more redeemable than the show version. Examples:
Honestly after getting into the comics, show Negan is a fucking cartoon villain compared to the comic version, they ramped up everything evil about him, and then tried to have a full redemption arc for him.
So like... why? Why did they make him so much more evil? Especially if you're going to have this big redemption arc where he finds a new family. In the comics his final fate is that he is a survivor who presides in the abandoned Springhaven neighborhood near the Commonwealth, and it's a lot more believable by that point that Carl and the other survivors wouldn't want to execute him. Show Negan, being an insane rapist serial killer should have been left to die by Rick. Probably one of the worst character changes in the show.

2024.05.12 13:33 masala-papad-mafia 27 [M4F] Mumbai - Are you adventurous enough?

I do realise that this is a very long shot, but I'm looking for someone to finish off the weekend with, on a nice dinner, followed by a long walk on the beach. I already have the place picked out and there's no age bar (as long as you're over 18).
A little bit about me, I’m your usual 27 year old small town guy who just lacks a little romance in my otherwise perfect life right now. I'm kinda athletic and love playing lawn tennis, skipping rope, swimming and pushups. I can enjoy my own company pretty well, and absolutely love going on solo trips. A few other things I love are desserts, watches, my work, long drives, telling special people random things, good quality stationery, healthy flirting, cooking, wearing kurtas, The Office, Modern Family, Rick and Morty, and food, off the top of my head. I can appreciate tf out of a well made fudge brownie, and don’t even talk about rasmalai because that’s bound to get my mouth watering. Currently I have a few different playlists for different moods, but Spotify called me a ‘Hopeless Romantic’ in the last spotify wrapped, so make of it what you will. Apart from all this random stuff, I’d say I’m pretty cool to talk to. I’ve been told I can make people around me comfortable. Honestly this is just the tip of the iceberg and there's a lot more to explore.
If you're still reading, you're probably interested. So leave me a text if you're feeling spontaneous enough today! If this post is still up, it means I haven't found anyone yet.
P.s: Please be open for verification before meeting
