What a horrific saga of a home sale. We decided to leave the US for my home country, we lived in an area with high home values but limited appeal. No phone, TV, cell or terrestrial internet service, but near some of the best skiing and hiking in the world. Mid 20222 We found a cash buyer from word of mouth who was also a general contractor. There were some legally required updates to the property necessary for a title transfer. The buyecontractor agreed to do the work at a heavily discounted rate worked into the purchase price. What should have taken 2 months dragged out to 8 months past the expiry of the contract. When we'd spent over $20,000 excluding equity, we demanded a renegotiation. Our realtor friend also stepped in saying that we were way under market value, pressuring us to list it on the market. This all triggered a legal battle that never went to court, however it was discovered that our contract was negligently deficient, and the attorney who drafted it as a neutral party is now threatening to sue us for breaching said contract on behalf of the buyer, we put the property on the market as we are now out of contract and clearly not going to proceed (mistake), receive a few offers and then when we managed to find our own attorney who would take the case, we were informed that it needed to come off the market immediately as our failure to act at the end of the contract expiry looked bad on our part and could be construed as a tacit extension of the contract. A nasty battle of lawyer's letters ensued resulting in the buyer's lawyer recusing himself (officially but still probably advising in the background) on threat of a malpractice suit and bar complaint, and ultimately we came out ahead recovering the carrying costs completely. Finally our house goes back on the market and we get a contingent buyer who dicks us around for months. A title report shows a $70k lien that we were never aware of. The contractor then tries to stand by it triggering another small legal battle that scares off the buyers. When they back off we are now in the depths of winter when nobody buys houses. Our realtor probably fed up with everything, demands we drop the price $30k. At this point we have had a total of 60 days on the market in the last year and we have strong words back and forth with the realtor. Come late winter we get an offer at asking price, as is, accepting all prior inspections. We just got our appraisal at $2k over the sales price and everything is moving ahead. The money isn't in the bank yet but I'm so excited to be done with this hellacious rollercoaster.
Lessons learned: pay the money to have an FSBO contract professionally reviewed by a second attorney, and be realistic on the value but don't let an impatient realtor bully you into an undervalue price just to clear their board. Anyway that's my story.

It used to be that HIPPA a privacy law that applied specifically to health records were absolute including mental health records and could only be violated in the case someone specifically threatened someone else. Now this is being reinterpreted to include "could potentially pose a threat" to themselves and the broader community.
This has lead to HIPPA laws being weakened and no longer appling to the letter agencies who make it accessible by local law enforcement. This has allowed the NSA and FBI to gather all of our healthcare records in particular mental health records and share them with local law enforcement. Any diagnosis you've ever had, the meds you were prescribed and whether you keep up with the refills are being tracked in order to keep us all "safe".
To be clear the above is only a partial conspiracy with conjecture based on known facts that have quitely been agreed upon by the biggest players in the healthcare industry. I don't want to discourage anyone from seeking professional help but the governments penchant for violating privacy laws showed be cause for concern.
My full conspiracy is that this mental health awareness month feels more like a psyop to encourage and nudge more people to talk with a professional and volunteer all your internal mind data to the state. By aggregating all your financial records, social media likes, education and employment history, along with data scraped from sessions with shrinks about your childhood or parents, the government will be able to build a complete and more predictive model of us all. They will be able to speak to our individual wants and needs enabling them to motivate us whenever need be.
Recently there have been dozens of commercials with odd tones directed specifically at minorities to seek counseling. And while this may have initiated by people from that community the state has piggy backed on it in order to close the data gap for the algorithms.
We in the United States live in the most prevasive surveillance state in all of human history. Not the Chinese nor the Russians, but us in the US. But never fear its all to protect you. Maybe....

It's no secret that many of target's positions have increased their workload due to reduced staffing. I've had a coworker have a panic attack and multiple coworkers have crying episodes in my store's guest services drive up team. I've had the same, and it really sucks to have these things happen at work and just wish you could get through the day productively.
Some of the people I see struggling are kids adjusting to their first jobs, or older people who need to pay the bills and are put on drive up despite issues like arthritis and fatigue, and others can be exceptional workers who get pushed too far by an especially rude guest, or get stressed out by deliveries running 20 minutes into the red while they're the only ones running out orders. Most of the people I work with come here after their other jobs. I only work 20 hrs a week here, but between all my jobs I'm somewhere around 45-55 hours depending on the week.
Do these type of issues count as workplace hazards? Are they the kind of thing a union could help with? I'd just like a little information before I go through the process of having to pay a union consultant or something to ask these questions to. Obviously I don't work multiple jobs for fun, I do it because of bills, sickness, hobbies, vices, vacations etc so I'd hate to waste money for a union professional to tell me I'm just a complainer and they can't help me lol

an epic plunge is what we are walking through, but it's already rising again, and let's face it – we live in a cook pot set on media, I mean medium – medium is the setting on the cook pot, which notice is more than a crock. From the frog’s point of view, it is ideal.
From our point of view, standing in the chop of the water cycle, we are soaring in the air – then minutes from now, we might be walking in the clouds, and who knows after that, but this is the context for comings and goings this mid-afternoon – this potential for levitation.

In the moment, they are roosting in a tree, observing the silver magnetic waves marching through the streets. Made of what? The pasodoble! Concrete.

The more people who are aware of these resources, the more people will be able to pushback on landlords trying to rip them off. Share this with anyone you know who is renting, so that they have this info handy when times comes for Lease Renewal.
Here are a few tips that have helped me get better results out of these negotiations:
tldr; Generate a letter using the Negotiation Kit and use this when responding to the increase notice. Make sure to do this as early as possible as NCAT only has a 30 day window from notice. Having other properties as examples can also help when negotiating.
1. Do Proactive Research

• In the 6 months coming up to your lease renewal, do your research and get an idea of the avg. rent for similar properties in your area. Generally, we get an offer of about $30-$50 above market at the minimum
• I usually just save a search on realestate.com.au and check it out every now and then. Whenever you see something similar to your property, Screenshot as many details of the listing as possible (as it will be deleted). Do this with everything relevant you find. Won't be enough to hold up in NCAT but will help you get your point across

2. Respond Quickly - 30 Day NCAT Window

• You will only have 30 days after receiving the notice to apply to NCAT for an excessive rental increase notice - FairTrading for reference
• NCAT isn't going to be the most stress-free route for you go through. However, this is realistically the most accessible method for you to dispute the increase. The property manager will take you a lot more seriously while you are still able to apply for this, so make sure to kickoff negotiations early

3. Tenants Union of NSW Negotiation Kit

• The Negotiation Kit generates a letter outlining the avg. rent within a postcode, using rental bond data; and additionally outlines the factors taken into consideration by NCAT in determining fair rent
• This tool was ultimately what i believe got me across the line in my last negotiation. It provides hard evidence of the actual avg. rent in your area, while also reminding the property manager that you are aware of the fact that you can dispute the increase
• I would approach negotiations by generating a letter and attaching this as a part of your first response to the Rental Increase

4. Don't be a D**\*

• If you approach negotiations by bombarding them with messages and taking out your stress on them, you're just giving them a good reason to instruct the landlord to not budge on the price
• You don't have to be kind, but be professional. At the end of the day, you don't want to go through the stress of taking this to NCAT, or moving out and they know that as well

Following these steps seriously helped my luck with property managers. I am hoping it will also help you guys.

Trying to help a friend explore any possible avenues here -
She paid a "contractor" $14K for a new HVAC system. The system stopped working after a week and now she has been without any HVAC for months. She tried giving this man many opportunities to fix it, but finally had an HVAC professional come out for an estimate. They were shocked by the level of incompetence in the install - the guy had even installed the minisplit backwards. Told her it wasn't fixable and they would have to tear out the whole system and start from scratch. (I know a little about HVAC and even I could see the install was not even remotely professional)
So she hired a lawyer to sue the contractor - $2,000 to start. The lawyer told her not to do anything - don't do any repairs, don't try to chargeback the credit card, nothing. He told her he would send a demand letter as a first step and then start looking into the contractor's assets or possible liability insurance. The lawyer stated the man's address and she advised the lawyer that address was incorrect.
Weeks go by and the lawyer just keeps saying "We're waiting for a reply, these things take time, he has 30 business days to reply" - finally, after more than two months the lawyer says "Oh, that letter came back as undeliverable, nothing more we can do, too bad." They had sent it to the address she told them was wrong, and also took a ridiculous amount of time to tell her it wasn't delivered (when they would have known that within a week or two)
So she asks for her $2,000 back, and is told they are dissolving the law firm and maybe they can refund her a tiny bit of what she paid. She contacted the credit card company to see about a chargeback for the contractor's $14K (which the lawyer had told her to wait on) and finds out it's too late for a chargeback.
On top of all that, she spends 20 minutes online and is able to find the contractor's actual address, as well as his long trail of lawsuits and bankruptcies. That's how long it would have taken this lawyer to do their job correctly.
I know it's a longshot, but any chance she has a case for malpractice for the lawyer advising her not to pursue other remedies but then not doing their job?

I'm really happy and confused and I really don't know if I can talk about this with friends and family but I need to share my experience with someone because I missed my sister. I don't need or want any advice since no one really knows the situation to be able to give a good advice without assuming things they don't know and it's weird to read people talking about my sister like if they know what she lived, I just want to share this and I know a lot of people have had experiences like this too so maybe someone can relate.
When I was 10 years old my older sister who was 22 at that time disappeared after leaving a note to our parents saying that she's okay and just wants to start over her life.
My sister was always a lonely but outgoing person, she always told me that she enjoyed solitude from time to time and noisy things took away from her quality of life because tbh it was loud LOUD where we lived and it was annoying even for me (we lived in a dangerous neighborhood so it wasn't too safe and she hated not being able to go for a walk at night or do things at night alone), she was depressed and I remember seeing her suffering from severe anxiety attacks, she used to hit herself to stop them and she had a strong TCA that triggered those things. She suffered from other mental issues as well and talked freely about that, she talked about those things in front of me and these are things that leave a mark on you.
She was the favorite of the whole family although mi parents never out pressure on her, they always let us do our life (my brother who was 19 at that time knows that, my sister was the golden child), my grandfather always made it clear that she is his favorite granddaughter, even now. She was the calm but funny kind of person, she was the closest to my parents and uncles so when she disappeared from one day to the next no one understood what was going on.
Even my sister had never traveled alone except to go to work and she always notified my mother that she was okay for safety reasons. She left a long note clarifying that she doesn't want to be searched but she loves us. It was a big blow for the family, I remember my mother wanting to report to the police but they said that my sister was not a minor and the note said that she left by her own so they can't do anything.
In a way, my other brother knew that this would happen at some point, since our sister mentioned a lot that she wanted to leave everything and go live in the countryside or become a nun and live in a calm place without any worries but nobody took her seriously about that. She was always the kind of person who did things without telling anyone, she liked her solitude sometimes even if she was always friendly.
The first months and weeks were strange, it wasn't that she had passed away but that she disappeared because she wanted to, I remember my mother missing her because they always shared the afternoons together.
I also missed her a lot, Even years later my family missed her and at Christmas or her birthday someone would always say "maybe she'll show up now" or we would wonder how she's doing or if she was alive.
Back to the present. I'm on vacation in the south of my country (This part of my country is very expensive for a tourist and I am the only one in my family who was able to come now that I am an adult), it's a place full of villages and while I was exploring I came to a place where they sold typical handicrafts of the place.
While shopping I can swear that the first thing I saw was my sister looking at some crafts on a shelf, she looked more adult but obviously I recognized her instantly, we are really similar after all.
I didn't really knew how to react after so many years and I didn't know how she would react, but I went over and said her name. What I didn't expected was that she would smile instantly when she saw me and called me by my nickname. I thought she had escaped because she didn't wanted anything to do with the family even if in the note she said she loves us, but she was greeting me as if nothing had happened.
She told me that she didn't expected to see me there and asked me if I was on vacation, she said that the village used to be not so touristy but now more people started to go and many villagers opened stores for the tourists. I was upset, I was angry with her for leaving us and pretending that nothing happened but I couldn't react so I just asked her if she lives in that town and she said yes, It's a place filled with old people.
We talked for a few seconds, she asked me what I'm studying and if everyone at home is okay, she told me I'm taller and thinner. Then she gave me a kiss on the cheek and told me that if I have a few days off I can go visit her but she doesn't have a cell phone so she told me that she's almost everyday there. My sister also told me to send hugs to our parents.
I'm confused and full of questions about her, she doesn't even wants to hide, she didn't looked or talked to me like someone who wanted to run away from something and hide. She was just happy to see me and happy to know that we were all good.
But I also feel resentment for her when I think about all that our parents and grandparents suffered when she disappeared, making my mother feel that she was a bad mother because she couldn't protect her.
But I'm ambivalent as I'm also happy to know that she's okay and that she doesn't hate me or the family but I'm also confused, Her behavior wasn't that of someone who is hiding or who doesn't want to know anything about her past, she was just happy to hear about us.
Edit: I'm sorry but there are people who clearly don't read the post, there are literally people saying that I didn't even knew my sister and commenting as if they knew her and taking things for granted about her life, there are even people saying that they don't understand why I'm 'angry' (it's just a feeling, a normal feeling, it's not that I hate her and I will treat her badly, god. Nor will I talk to my family without talking to her first, at what point in the post did I say that I'm going to expose her? I'm never going to treat her badly either because I have no reason to do so, It's crazy how half the comments draw silly conclusions) with my sister when i literally say it up there, even if my English is bad because it's not my first language, just read the post before you want to get a few likes for some unnecessary advice.

OOP: My sister in the note said that she loves our parents, my brother was 19 when our sister left and he himself knows how much our parents loved and supported her when she was having a hard time with herself but the outside always affected her badly.
I was ten years old but I wasn't a baby and I remember what the family dynamic was like, I remember the feeling of my family, my parents are not narcissists and my sister loved them and they love who's my sister, she just had her own problems.
How could a parent miss the idea of their children? There's not a day when my parents don't miss everything about my sister, they miss sharing the day with her, my father even missed when she was cranky. My parents always let us go our own way and I can assure you that they never pressured us to be what they wanted us to be, I don't even know what they want us to be.

I'm neurodivergent and my family live in another country. I honestly forget to talk to them most of the time and only really do because my mum messages me first. If she didn't we just wouldn't talk. Not due to any hate or anything, I'm just happy doing my own thing.

OOP: She's not. My sister had a lot of self-destructive behaviors and hurting herself was one of them when she felt 'fat', she also had eating disorders and panic attacks because of that. I don't remember too much but she did other things to not eat besides hitting herself, she was very open about her TCA and yes, she has a diagnosis from a professional.
My sister was always in touch with my mother and everyone in text, she always used to keep in touch when she was going out until the day she left, now she doesn't even have a phone. In her note she just said that she wanted to leave everything

I understand that many reflect their personal traumas in this site, but I literally received passive-aggressive messages calling me idiot or even telling me that I would hate my sister if she were neurodivergent or claiming that my parents abused her.
What's wrong with y'all? Go to a psychologist and stop reflecting your unresolved traumas in the story of a person you don't even know. Go out and touch grass and talk to a real person instead of literally sending private messages like that.
I didn't asked for any advice and just wanted to share my story because that's the point of that subreddit, but many took it the wrong way and decided to turn something positive into a way to fight.
I don't even understand why out of nowhere I started getting those kinds of messages or if someone share that post on a weird place.

On sunday I finally found my sister again, she was selling things in the park with other stands, all of them are rastafari, not hippies or a sect. I walked over and she greeted me just as happily, we talked a couple of things and my sister told me that she doesn't have a cell phone so it was impossible for her to tell me that she wouldn't be there on Saturday.
I spent the afternoon with her at her stand and after that we went to her house, she lives alone (and sometimes with her friends). We talked for a while and at one point she broke down and hugged me, saying she was trying to stay calm all this time and didn't knew how to react because she didn't wanted to make me cry too bc she remembered that I was really sensitive but she couldn't hold it anymore. We cried and talked a lot.
My sister was tired of people, she said that our house was her safe place but hated the idea of having to work everyday and I didn't wanted to study anything, she was our parents' golden child, so they let her do whatever she wanted, but she knew that at some point she had to make something of her life. She was tired of how stupid and empty everyone was, of the politicians, of the TV showing empty things, of the noise everywhere outside when she wanted peace, even sleeping in our home was stressful for everyone because of the noises outside during the weekends when she wanted to be alone to smoke and listen music (tbh, In my memories as a child I didn't remember the obvious smell of joints that my sister had all the time)
That added to the pressure that society put on her to be physically perfect make her want to leave everything behind.
She didn't wanted to die but realized that my parents were miserable when they saw her being miserable, this is something I didn't know, but my sister said that our father had two jobs to be able to pay for her psychologist and medication, also my father used to spoil her a lot with the only food she eat without guilty. Running away was like dying symbolically.
My sister says that although our parents always supported her, she felt like a failture for not being able to improve and always relapsing, she felt bad to see our father working so hard and also wanted to live according to her spiritual mentality, free from all that is toxic in society.
All of those things make her ran away from everything, she felt like a burden and also didn't wanted to live a life working and miserable like everyone.
Sis told me that she never contacted us because she doesn't wants to have a cell phone and a trip to our province is too expensive to her because it's basically going from one end of the country to the other.
She hates capitalist society with all her soul and doesn't even have a TV. My sister said that she is much better now away from the city. My sister told me that she wants to talk to our parents but doesn't knows what to say and we don't want to give them parents a shock since our dad was sick a few days ago and is recovering from dengue.
I'm writing this with her beside me and doesn't understand what's the point of this site (The last social network she used was fotolog in 2007) but said that she doesn't mind if I post this. She wanted to write something but said she doesn't like writing in English haha
My sister was reading the comments and wants me to clarify that she never suffered any kind of a abuse, she has a lot of friends and never had any problem with anyone but likes to be alone from time to time to meditate.
And she's not neurodivergent (She said her behavior was normal because of her TLP), suffers from ED, borderline personality disorder and see a psychologist twice a month.
During her adolescence, the blogs Ana and mia were trendy, her friends had that 'aesthetic' and she was popular in fotolog (according to my sister, at that time it was taken as an aesthetic and even a book about that was really popular between teens, maybe someone from my country knows Abzurdah?). She hated going out when she felt fat, she couldn't have imperfections like cuts on her arms so she hurt herself with a rubber band when she overate, something she read in those blogs. Now she's in a good weight but it took her really long to not relapse again. It's been a long recovery for her and once you're anorexic you never stop being anorexic, she's always afraid of relapsing.
So that's it for now, we don't know how we're going to talk with our parents without making them freak out. And also my sister after seeing the comments on the post saw other reddit posts and said that her life is definitely better without a cell phone, she says that things like fotolog was the beginning of all evil haha

OOP: Idk how it is in other countries to be honest, my sister doesn't live in community and there are no camps, she's one of the few who has a house because most of them prefer to travel around the country.
I really think it's impossible for them to be 100% Rastafarian here tbh because we are from South America and the Rastafarian community here is obviously totally different from the REAL Rastafarians, they just follow most of the philosophy

Tldr is at the end...This is from when I was in University when Snapchat was huge, and minor details that don't affect the story been changed so I don't break my NDA.
While in university I (20F) worked a internship. Every semester (4 months) they hire 8 students to work this internship and they are picky about who are hired. Criminal record checks, meet certain academic requirements, interviews, references etc. Those who come out of the internship can basically get any job within this field after they graduate.
The students are assigned to different processes of certain cases and we work under some well season professionals in this field.
There's a girl, Ashley (not her real name, 20F). I know of Ashley because a friend from a previous internship is friend with her.
Ashley joined us 1 and 1/2 week after everyone's start day because she had previously planned a vacation to see some basic white people music artist's concerts in the other side of the country.
She got everyone social media first day she was here and she seem generally normal. It was a little annoying to get her up to speed, but in a week she was able to work her part without too much direction from the rest of the students.
After the week of catching her up, she told the office she's going to the other side of the country to see the same artist's concert but in a different city. And she will leave in 3 days. She didn't tell us how long but she said it won't be long because the artist is only playing 1 show at that city.
While she was gone the professional are constantly bugging us students about the progress of the cases. We always have to tell them, that Ashley handles those part and she's away. After 3 weeks of Ashley being gone, the manager came to us students and ask us why we haven't finish theses things and learn that Ashley caused this. The manager decided to teach me and another student how to do Ashley part so we can get on with the cases. Ashley was gone for another 2 weeks after this.
Halfway through this internship, the school send someone to check in. I did my interview with the school representative and when I finished she ask me to get Ashley. I told her that Ashley isn't in, she's following some artist in the other side of the country. The rep was surprised to learn that and she said something along the lines of "she said her grandfather died, she should be back now"
All the student interns are very annoyed at Ashley because she's basically never here and we have to do so much more because she wasn't around. When Ashley came back, she forgotten all the processes and didn't even know the name of the professional she's partnered with.
So Ashley would just nap in the file room and not work. She will constantly bug me and the other students on how to do certain things and when the professionals ask why certain things aren't done or she did them wrong, she'll blame that we didn't teach her that.
In this internship we developed a little tradition where the students get lunch together on Wednesday, but it's not mandatory. One of the Wednesday when Ashley came to work, we all went to get dim sum together. Ashley said she don't eat meat for religious reasons so she will join for chatting but don't want to pay and had food in her cabinet. We thought that was fair enough as dim sum usually have some meat elements in them. Ashley proceeds to eat a fair amount of dim sum. Some of them, containing meat, even though we told her that there's meat in it. She said "it's okay because I'm just sampling it." and ordered 2 Cokes. I can't remember what the bill came to but we all have to chip in extra cash because Ashley "didn't really eat anything" even though you can see the chicken feet bones on her plate. She proceeded to make us accommodate her religious meatlessness when we pick restaurant for Wednesday lunches, thankfully she was barely in the office so it wasn't too big of a deal.
A little more time goes on and it's the last month of this internship and the student is trying to wrap up their cases to pass on to the new batch of students. Usually students need to sign an NDA about the stuff we did in the internship, and shred the copies of sensitive documents we keep in our cabinet.
Without telling anyone, Ashley just flew to a different country. Leaving all of us in a panic because without Ashley signing the NDA and her key to open her cabinet, the whole department can be liable to some serious trouble. The manager literally told us to contact Ashley anyway we can , so we can get Ashley back to sign the NDA and open her cabinet to see if there's anything we need to shred. Since I had Ashley on Snapchat, I told her that the manager need her back for this procedure or else we'll all be in big trouble. She told me that she won't be back in the county for another month cause she's following that same artist. And I told the manager that, and the manager just told us to do our part.
Since the day that I contacted Ashley on behalf of my manager, she been snapping me every single day. About her fancy latte, her front row seat of the concert, her hair being funky etc. While the rest of us students has to panic about the potential legal issues we are in and making up for the work she was supposed to be doing.
The day the internship was over, Ashley was as usual spamming me with her basic b latte in front of the concert venue of her basic white people music artist, and I sent her a message on Snapchat. "Please stop snapping me, I don't want to know about this concert anymore" She replied, "OH I'm sorry, I was just hitting reply all on my snap every time I post" and she never contacted me again.
A few months has passed, and I heard that she had started to talk behind my (and all the other students) back to anyone who'll listens, and made our mutual friend from the previous internship to cut me out of their lives.
Am I the asshole for telling her to stop snapping me?
Tldr: Am I the asshole to tell a coworker who missed half her prestigest internship to follow some music artist's tour and ate a bunch of food on everyone's dime to stop spamming me about the tour while everyone is trying to make up for her missing work.

Hey everyone, hope your applications are going well.
I am having a little trouble with proving my rurality. I have lived in a rural area consecutively for 10 years (cumulatively for 15), but only went to my rural high school for 4 years and have only gone to my current GP for 4.5 years. I have also only had my current bank account for 2 years (and didn't save my online statements from my previous bank because why would I?).
I am willing to ask my high school principal or GP for a professional letter but don't know if its enough proof if I only went to both of them or 4 years, though I have lived in the area for 10. Any help would be great thanks!

I feel like schools aren’t doing a lot to protect all the people in their environment (teachers, students, all their employees and staff ) from school shooters. To me it just seems reasonable for every class to have some type of way to escape this devastating situation without the potential of endangering students while trying to go to figure out how to vacate the school premises.
Of course, the major problem of school shootings is with the guns and maybe bullying too, but won’t it make sense to try and find multiple ways to tackle this issue. Like once a school shooter gets into the school, you don’t know exactly where they could be, all you know is they’re not in the class , therefore use that as the way to escape. Start at the location you are already familiar with and aware of and leave from there without having to potentially run into the shooter. Plus with that, all the other employees like janitors and other staff memebers and student in the hallway could easily just run into the nearest class and use their rope ladder without having to potentially come face to face with the shooter. Obviously training and drills for this will still be necessary (maybe training to get the kids to not fully panic and be able to calmly climb down the rope or maybe schools could have a 5 second lockdown rule where once the shooter is spotted and the school is alerted everyone in the hallway has to get into the closest immediate class or something like that so the doors can also be locked; Schools could even place ladders in bathrooms and places close to open spaced windows for people who may not necessarily be near a class) but again, this is just an idea of how we as society could try to prevent these devastating situations.

Recently u/scorpiogirl12 had a question on a so-called "legal advice" ("legaladvice") reddit site, which is anything but. I was unable to give my advice on that subreddit since I was "permanently banned" for offering a servicemember with a USERRA issue to "DM" me, given the privacy issues involved with their employment situation. Frankly, "legaladvice" is nothing but a sham. They don't have legal professionals there, just a bunch of two-bit "sea lawyers" willing to give their "opinions."
That being said, Scorpiogirl12 has a serious issue that affects her and her husband's employment situation in the face of a very long service obligation. That's why I reposted her situation here so she can receive quality guidance, rather then the garbage at "legaladvice."
Scorpiogirl12's question was: "My husband recently got put back on military orders for the next 3 years (he has been enlisted since 2020). Last week, he notified his employer that his start date would be June 1, 2024. Today, he got an email stating that he must submit a resignation letter on 5/24/25 and he would be effectively resigned on 5/25/25. I told him NOT to submit the letter because he is NOT resigning, he is simply going on more active duty orders.
What legal standing do we have if he refuses to submit the letter and they let him go?"

Your husband needs to be familiar with ESGR resources, especially as it relates to his rights under USERRA. He should have had briefings on his civilian employment rights.
Regarding your husband's particular situation, it's not up to his employer when he leaves prior to an extended military service. He can take weeks off prior to work (or MORE), or work right up until he reports for duty. 20 CFR 1002.74. It is entirely up to him!
As for his reemployment rights, long as he doesn't exceed five years of cumulative, non-exempt, service, and otherwise complies with his USERRA eligibility requirements, his reemployment rights are protected. 20 CFR 1002.32, .99-.103. They are protected even if he "resigns," signs a notarized statement that he "never wants" his position back, and releases his ER of all rights under USERRA, or otherwise, "forever and ever," "pinky swear."!!! That is because USERRA precludes any "contract" "agreement" or otherwise, that reduces (i.e. "waives" or "releases") his reemployment rights under USERRA. 38 USC 4302.
Regardless of how the ER characterizes the employee's leave of absence, it's considered a "leave of absence" or "furlough." 38 USC 4316(b)(1)(A); 20 CFR 1002.149, .150. As long as he adheres to the eligibility requirements of 20 CFR 1002.32, he will have reemployment rights once he's done with his military service pursuant to 38 USC 4312.
FURTHERMORE, he's entitled to all "pay, seniority, and status" he would have attained once he returned from his uniformed service, AND he is entitled to all missed pension/retirement plan benefits he missed during his uniformed service. IF he has a "contributory" retirement plan where he contributes to the plan, he has 3 times the length of service, but NO MORE than 5 years (in your husband's case), to makeup his contributions.
Go to ESGR.mil under the Servicemembers resource tab for more information. If your husband has any questions, or wants a trained Ombudsman to contact his employer to discuss what USERRA does or does not require, have him request assistance on the site or by calling 800.336.4590.
AS A FINAL NOTE: Ignore the "sea lawyer" opinions on many of the so-called "legal advice" sites. They're garbage, and will simply result in misinformation.

I posted this earlier under my normal account, but I decided I wanted a bit of anonymity.
I had a very traumatic emergency department visit last year. I wrote a complaint, and it was pages long. Most of the issues were resolved in some way, maybe not to my full satisfaction but enough. I won't go into those.
The part that they lied about were times medications were given and times when they checked in to take my vitals.
The vitals weren't taken... I was left in the isolation cell for over 9 hours without any in-person contact with any human being. There is no way I could have slept through them coming in because a) I couldn't sleep and b) The door opening is super loud because it is like a jail door. They claimed they took them throughout the night.
I wasn't given my medication in the morning until about 2.5 hours late, which I get happens. But they claimed I got it on time which was not true.
Basically they said that I was so emotional that I wasn't remembering things correctly. I WAS emotional, for sure, but I was very, very aware of what was going on during that period of time. Plus, I was allowed to have my phone with me, so I have multiple text messages throughout the night to a couple of loved ones with comments about waiting for a nurse to come in to check my vitals, and eventually of me asking my loved ones to call the hospital to push for more urgency regarding my medications.
I even requested the camera footage. Initially, the department that deals with the footage was like, "Yup, no problem. Should have to you within 24 hours because there were no other patients in the footage (because it was only me in the isolation room obviously)." Then I get an e-mail the next day saying that it was too late to get the footage. So they allowed the footage to get taped over even though there was an open complaint regarding the above issues along with a nurse threatening me with restraint twice for no legitimate reason. One would think that they would want the footage to help provide professional education to that nurse for future issues.
One Doctor also put another lie in my file which I won't even get into. I did get them to write a letter to somewhat resolve that issue, but the letter won't show up on my main health record, it would only be accessible to someone who was digging deep.
I don't normally care what people think about me, but to have inaccuracies on my record with no recourse, no opportunity to have my rebuttal officially on record, it just kills me. It is one thing if people dislike me because they don't like my personality. It is one thing if people are gossiping about me. It is one thing of some rando makes up lies and spreads them around. Those things would not be an issue for me. But for lies to be on my official record, and for them to only really be included to cover their butt once I made a complaint - well, that hurts and it scares me. Plus, my complaint was very specific that I did not want ANYONE to get into trouble, even the nurse who threatened restraints. I just wanted policies to be updates and professional development to occur. These are the people I am supposed to trust when I am at my absolute worst. Guess I was a little too idealistic.

My Upwork account has been permanently banned due to a brainless member of the Trust & Security Team.
My Upwork account had a Top Rated badge, which I worked hard to achieve, and they destroyed everything for me in the end.
One day, I noticed that my Upwork account was temporarily suspended, and their email informed me that I needed to upload government-issued documents and proof with an address.
This was normal, I know, and I complied.
I live in China. I uploaded a photo of my Chinese ID card.
As for the proof of address, since Chinese banks no longer send any paper mail, and the branches cannot provide any documents with an address, I uploaded a bank statement from my Singaporean bank account, which is sent to my address in China - this may be the reason for my permanent ban.
ALL REAL DOCUMENTS.
The next day, I received an automated email stating that my identity verification had been successful.
I checked Upwork, and my account was still not unbanned, so I replied to the ticket asking them to lift the ban.
A few hours later, they hit me hard.
They informed me that due to the inability to confirm my identity, my account had been permanently banned.
There was no opportunity to appeal. I wrote a sincere appeal letter, but no one replied.
They claimed that my balance had been refunded to the client. However, after confirming with a client via Slack, they had not received any refund.
Upwork had pocketed this money.
This client initiated a refund on Upwork, which resulted in me losing my Top Rated badge.
What's even more frustrating is that after my account was banned, I still receive emails related to this account, such as invitations to apply for professional certifications.
I contributed over $500 in income to Upwork through purchasing Freelancer Plus and connects, and paying fees. However, all this income has gone to feed the as*ho*es at the Trust & Safety Team.
Upwork can ban your account at will citing failure to verify identity. Please be careful.

To preface, I know I was very dumb and am beating myself up already. I just need advice. I delivered a baby in December on Xmas morning. During my maternity leave I decided to do much needed paperwork / clean up. I decided to renew my husbands passport which was expiring June 2024 and change my last name on my passport to my married name. I submitted these docs in February - 02/05 I get a letter in the mail on 03/28 stating they need additional information (I knew I filled everything out so I truly believe it was an honest mistake and I might’ve filled out my application with navy blue ink instead of black because my favorite office pen is navy blue). I submit the docs immediately back. We decide to book a vacation impromptu as my husband and I haven’t traveled together ever due to his business. We book for 05/20 thinking it’ll be 2 Months and we’ll definitely receive our passports by then. WE HAVE NOT. I have done everything and called everyone. I got through to our state reps office and they were very helpful and were expediting it. Our childcare for the vacation fell through and I don’t feel comfortable leaving my baby with anyone else so now he needs to come with us. He’s 5 months old now so it’s fine. He does not have a passport. I have tried to make an urgent appt online and there are none available. My flight, car rental, hotel, parking etc nothing is refundable. I will lose a lot of money if I cannot get my baby a passport. I’ve emailed our state rep again to see if they could help. I call the customer service for the passport agency and they say to call within 72 hours. Has anyone been in this situation and been okay? Has anyone truly not been able to get a passport on time and forfeit their trip. I’m so upset with myself. I’m not sure why I didn’t think this through and get a passport for him just in case. I’m usually very plan A, B and C and I really just am so freaking upset. My husband is so looking forward to this trip as am I. Any advice?

I live in England and I want to start a small court claim, but I have been advised that anything over £10,000 should be handled by law professionals. It involves the purchase of a stolen vehicle for which I paid over £10,000 in cash. Despite sending several letters to the seller requesting a refund, I have not received a response. While I understand that recovering the money may be difficult, I believe it's important to hold the seller accountable for their fraudulent actions. Additionally, the seller continues to actively sell and operates as an individual rather than a trader, I am seeking to hire a solicitor to assist me, but is it really not possible to start court action myself? I was initially a guest at an airbnb, but now have become an actual month-to-month renter at the airbnb house where the owner also resides on site. The owner rents 2 other rooms under the airbnb account. my room is no longer listed as part of the airbnb rooms available. The owner graciously offered the livingroom to a friend for her young daughter's sleepover party which now sounds as if it will be for the entire weekend. Sounds as if there will be at least 8-10 girls. The owner made, what I considered, a bizzare offer, of taking off to the beach for a couple of days where apparently the rooms are $400./night and asked if I'd be interested in splitting the cost. I told her I was not interested in spending $400 for a hotel room because I'm already paying rent at her home. Plus not to mention that I would have to pay for food and anything else I might need for a beach weekend getaway. I have to be honest in saying that it kinda ticked me off that she felt maybe we should vacate the premises just because she offered her living room to a bunch of kids and a parent or two in her airbnb. Kinda makes me feel like she wants to use my room along with the others for people to sleep in during the sleepover weekend. Am I wrong to decline what I feel is an unreasonable request just because she overextended herself? Beach weekend would set me back probably almost $600 which is absurd seeing that it is a few hundred short to the amount of my monthly rent.
