Am I too much?
My boyfriend and I are new. We’ve been “official” for two months now and are quite serious. We’ve discussed the word love, but haven’t really put it out there. He has stated several times that he believes I’m in love with him but that he believes I’m holding it back to protect myself. He says I should let them out. I’ve repeatedly told him I’m nervous to do so because I’m not trying to rush this already fast paced relationship and that I don’t want my feelings to be vocalized and he not feel the same way. I told him I want to make sure my feelings are safe first, and he insists that they are with him. Just this weekend, he said “what if something happened to me and you never told me?” That statement stayed in my head during the entire scenario I’m writing about.
His wife passed almost a year ago, and since we met, he insists he’s ready to move forward in life. We talk about the future, but I’ve been a bit wary because I know this is all new to him. He is an amazing man and treats me wonderfully.
He’s 56 and I’m 45 but we live about 50ish miles from one another. We make a point to see each other as much as possible. We also make a point to communicate with one another every. Single. Day. We talk every morning before work, text throughout our day, and stay on the phone several hours at night. The only time we break this routine is when one of us is out of town or away visiting family, but we discuss that ahead of time.
This weekend, he came to my hometown, and we spent an amazing weekend together. We had the best time. At the end of the weekend, we both went home, (this was maybe 10am) but I never heard of he made it home safely. I texted him around 1 just to ask. Never heard a word. Then texted around 5pm to let him know I was going to a friend’s house and would call him when I got back home. Told him I hope his day was going well. We usually do check in texts when we know we will be unavailable.
I get home that night around 10pm and ask him to just please let me know if he’s ok. I then call but it goes straight to voicemail. Then again around 12am to let him know I’m worried. I go to bed.
I wake up around 6 am and see no missing calls or messages, so I call him. Straight to voicemail again, so now I’m worried. I go to work and still hear nothing from him, so around 9:30am (24 hours later), I call back. Same thing. This is very unlike him, and I start to panic.
What would you do at this point? I really hesitate doing everything else next, but I’m worried. I call his job to give him a message to contact me. I’m ready to leave it at that and wait. I don’t have his number memorized, so I’m sure with a dead phone that he doesn’t know mine. His job calls me back around 11am and says “ma’am. You called early to deliver a message to ———. Well, I’m calling you back to let you know that ——— isn’t here for us to deliver the message. I definitely was not expecting that and my fear sets in. That was a strange phone call to me.
I’m worried he’s hurt, and especially with not hearing a peep from him for over 24 hours, I leave work early around 12pm and head his way. I get to his house, and he’s not there. I go to his job next, but I don’t go in. Instead, I call a second time. I speak with the same person, and she asks my relation. I tell him I’m her girlfriend. She pauses and says “I’m not supposed to say anything, but I’ll just say this. His family knows what’s going on with him.” I tell her thank you then hang up.
To me, that means something happened. So I go to his mom’s house. Again, I am doubting all of my actions, but at this point, I’m thinking he’s hurt. We are new and haven’t introduced one another to family other than one person. Outside of our own information and the names of our jobs, we don’t have contact info for one another, so I’m unsure what to do during all of this. I decide I’d rather be the crazy lady that did too much than sit back and not know what happened.
So, I’ve been to his mom’s house but never inside. The one time I went, it was late at night and he had to pick something up, and I didn’t want to meet her for the first time in that manner. I have met his sister briefly before. So, I’m at his mom’s house and knock on the door. I explain what’s happening and she invites me in. She does not know who I am, but that’s not unusual. If the situation were reversed, my parents would not know who he is either. She tells me he is in the hospital and that she was there earlier and he should be home later. She told me what happened which is concerning but fits with what he’s told me about his medical history.
She gives me a different phone number for him. She says he had to get another phone the day before because he cracked the one with the number I have. I call it and it just rings. Then I ask the hospital number. She doesn’t give it to me (again, I don’t blame her) but tells me the hospital name and that the system at the hospital is down.
I go to the hospital. The system is down. I ask information, and they say something about ransomeware. After a while of asking, I leave and go sit somewhere to wait. I’m praying he will call me. I text the number his mom gave me and later the number calls back, rings once then hangs up. I call it back, rings then voicemail.
After about 3 hours after getting that number from his mom, the number calls me back. It’s him, and he’s pissed. He says I did too much. He’s mad I called his job because he doesn’t want them in his business. He says he could see if it was two or three days but not one. I told him something felt off and it turns out I was right. He was in the hospital. He asked why I did it all and I told him because he went all outside of our routine in a big way. He told me we don’t have a pattern and not to look for one. We definitely have a pattern. We even talked about it this weekend and I told him how much I love his consistency. I apologized if I overstepped and said I thought we were serious enough for our actions. He said we are that serious but proceeds to say I did too much. He wouldn’t let me come to the hospital to see him and said he needed some uninterrupted time to himself so I went home. I didn’t even respond and I don’t plan to. I feel like I should just step alllllllll the way back. I also think he’s panicking because he’s only used to being loved by his late wife.
I do love this man, but it feels like he took all that love he said he saw and wanted and threw it back in my face. I’ve made it clear that I’m intense. I would have done the same had it been my parents, my kids, siblings, friends, etc. when we talk again, I know I won’t be the same. I don’t trust him with my feelings anymore.
We haven’t talked since. I’m sure he’s doubting me because I’m surely doubting him. Not once did he acknowledge what I went through to check on him. And he wasn’t trying to listen. I told him I’m happy he’s ok but I listened to my intuition which said he wasn’t and it was right. He said don’t listen to that. I told him that had I heard from him just once that he was ok, none of this would have ever happened. Are my intentions even important here?
I know my actions are a lot and this is a lot to read, so if you’ve made it this far, thank you.

It's been 1 month since poly started and I made a total of 0 friends or even acquaintances. Everyone else have already formed their own groups/clique during the second day of orientation and here I am hiding in library during break to avoid the embarrassment of eating alone.
I'm quite introverted and ever since covid I lost the ability to socialise. Like I met all my sec school friends during sec 1 and just can't seem to make any more new friends after that. I really don't want to be seen as those weirdo loners but everytime I try to talk to someone I find myself either waiting for the perfect moment (that usually never happens) or I try approaching them then suddenly my mind just goes blank and I just walk away in the end. Even if I manage to get into a conversation with someone It always ends with the awkward silence. Like how do ppl keep a conversation going for hours. It feels so weird to try to squeeze myself into another group also, I just can't man it's so embarrassinggggg. Got one time one group invited me to eat with them but they just ignored me or gave me one word replies. Then in the end they all just left once they are done and left me there alone....

Hi Everyone, Right after I graduated with my Bachelors in Chemical Engineering, I directly entered into grad school, starting a Master's degree in the same university I did my undergraduate studies at. I (22F) am now completing the first year of my M.Sc program.
The summer after I graduated, I was visiting different professors to ask if I could intern in their labs for the summer time. One professor got back to me and told me to just start a Masters program and join his group in the fall. He didn't bother looking at my grades, or my recommendation letters, he didn't try assessing if I was ready for grad school (I wasn't). The program is free.
He was working on an artificial heart pump, and at the time I was vaguely interested in biomedical engineering. I said yes to his offer because I had no plan and I thought it was a good idea (not a good idea).
This professors main focus and area of expertise is mechanics, not necessarily biomedical device engineering/design. So that project he had focused on the pumping mechanism. To be clear he is the director of the mechanical engineering department at my university.
The first semester I chose to audit some classes because I lived very far from university and had personal things going on. The professor attributed my absence to me being a bad student. He would often make comments on my lack of presence (he expects grad students to be at the lab like a 9-5, which i learned eventually is normal). PI knew about my personal circumstances but was not accommodating. In the second semester (now), I improved slightly, would send in my weekly research reports, but focused more on my classes than the research because I didn't like the topic of my research.
Fast forward to now, I am taking three courses. I realized through them that I would rather pursue something with more science, more biology because I know more about those topics. I thought I could get into automation engineering, but the prof did not help me learn what knowledge is needed, what courses I should be doing, and I only wish he did because when I joined his group, I was 21 at the time and I did not have my passion/area of interest developed. I took on the insulin pump as my foundation to what could be my thesis, but I have no joy learning about pumping mechanisms. Also the lab group environment was the worst, no one made an effort to speak to me, I made efforts to interact with them but they like to keep to themselves, im pretty sure its because I am not a man. And I think they view me as less than because my background is not mech engineering (all of them are).
Right now (22), I am scared, because I do know in my heart that I do not want to stay in his group but that also means I need to find another one to join (which already sounds difficult). I know I want to leave because I generally hate being in that lab and when I would I feel so unhappy. And I havent even started the work on my thesis. I learned alot from my experience in the lab, I learned that I do not want to stay there. I learned that my prof is an expert, but not an expert enough to guide a beginner like me into a field I dont have any background in. My friend in the lab says to stick it out and make it work because other labs wont be better. But I disagree, and I feel like the experience should not be this bad.
Ive been feeling this way for months but I could not muster the courage to make a decision and I was trying to make it work, so my PI has no idea, he probably thinks Im just being a bad student, but it feels like Im making a huge life decision.
I havent been at the lab for two weeks, and I need to tell my PI whats going on, how should i go about this? Grad school is difficult and I could use some advice.

so just for a bit of context i've been training actively for a little over 10 years now (mma, muay thai, jiu jitsu, itf & tta taekwondo etc) and i've always been a respectable fighter; not the best, but respectable
i had to take a break for about two and a half years due to some back problems i was having however seeing as my condition has improved a bit i decided to rejoin my old muay thai gym
im about 6 weeks back into it and ive noticed that while my fundamentals are still great and my technique is still good, everything else feels off. my timings are non-existent, i keep flinching and my ability to adequately react to stuff is just gone. i keep getting hit by people who telegraph exactly what they're going to do about a second in advance during sparring and i just dont know what to do about it.

I am a closeted gay boy (16) in highschool with homophobic friends who I am really close with and don't want then to drop me. As a kid my expierences werent like having a crush on a guy but were more like doing feminine things. I have had this thing where I would get turned on my trans women and crossdressers, not because they were attracted but because I wanted to crossdress.
The first accurance of this happening was when I was like in 1st grade where I had the family Ipad and I searched men with lipstick and got like euphoria from it.
Later in 4th grade I was more femme than Inhave ever been. I used to dress in my mothers dresses and my sister litteraly would help me wear her dresses (thank god she doesnt remember that). I would grow my hair out long and all these things gave me the euphoric affect.
In 6th grade I am surprised how no one thought I was gay. It was around the time of vsco girls and they used to wear scrunchies around their rists so I thought if I did that it would be super feminine. Some girl would give them to me because she had a crush on me but I would wear them and act superrrrr gay but would hide them outside of school. There was also a gay kid in our school and I would ask him a lot of questions.
During quartine I discovered drag and became obsessed but after a while I would surpress the thought of drag and me trying to crossdress because I was trying to be straight. Then when we went back to school from quarantine I changed to look a lot more masculine, started getting into football, and made all my homophobic friends. There was also a time where my mom saw me following a bunch of drag queens and told me that if my friends saw this they would treat me differently but I told her it was a hacker and she believed it.
During high school would go in and out of phases where I would be gay one week and straight the next. I would always deny myself that I could be gay until this school year (10th grade) on my birthday and I was in my room before school looking at men on instagram I told myself I can't control it and just fully realized that I was gay.
A little off topic but this spring I had been liking a lot of posts of naked men on instagram and my mon has my account and she for some reason checked the likes. She confronted me once seeing the likes and said that I should not like things like that and that if i was gay she would support me but I just said ok. My mom now knows but respects me by not talking about it. I am at a place where I don't care as much and if I were asked by a stranger I would say I was gay.
I would really like an answer or just an idea. thanks

For the sake of brevity, I'll gloss over a lot of these terms and may misrepresent them. Please forgive me if I speak in error.

What is the Satanic Verses incident?

There's so many reports around it but the gist is that Muhammad pbuh reveals a a set of verses to tribes people that allows the worship of the polytheistic gods of Mecca in the agreement that these tribes people will eventually join Islam and forgo these Gods.
P:290 "The Prophet is remembered as consciously considering a temporary compromise with polytheism. He contemplates allowing Thaqīf to continue worshipping al-Lāt and al-‘Uzzā for a year as part of the terms of a negotiated agreement through which they will ultimately accept Islam. Thaqīf suggest to him that he make Divine Revelation the instrument by which to justify his concession."
Moreover, the early Muslims also believed that verses like Surah Al-Hajj 52-53 were in response to this incident where Allah rebukes Muhammad but also comforts him as if it was a natural part of the prophethood:

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍۢ وَلَا نَبِىٍّ إِلَّآ إِذَا تَمَنَّىٰٓ أَلْقَى ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ فِىٓ أُمْنِيَّتِهِۦ فَيَنسَخُ ٱللَّهُ مَا يُلْقِى ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ ثُمَّ يُحْكِمُ ٱللَّهُ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌۭ ٥٢
Whenever We sent a messenger or a prophet before you and he recited, Satan would influence his recitation. But Allah would eliminate Satan’s influence. Then Allah would establish His revelations. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
Obviously, the early Muslims didn't believe these verses eventually made it into the Quran since Allah has rebuked it.

Did the early Muslims believe it?

The paper basically goes in extremely thorough detail on why early Muslims believed it and it was infact a major part of their understanding of the Prophet. I frankly couldn't understand his methodology cos I'm TERRIBLE at hadith, tafsir transmission and what not (very new to this) so I suggest you look through the paper where Dr Shahab proves beyond reasonable doubt that the early Muslims did indeed believe in this incident.

Why did early Muslims believe it, and why did Muslims after them reject the incident?

Okay so this is the really really interesting part in my opinion. Dr Shahab basically states that the concept of infalliblity proscribed to Muhammad was actually a concept that developed with the development of Hadiths. For early Muslims, Muhammad was actually seen as a fallible figure and that the satanic verses incident was entirely consonant with their world view. Similar to the stories of Yusuf where he resited the temptation of Zulaykhah or when Adam disobeyed his Lord and approached the tree. Dr Shahab writes about this here:
“The sīrah- maghāzī project thus had no need of an infallible Prophetic model for pious mimesis: there is little drama to be had from a hero who never makes mistakes. Drama arises when there is the possibility of things going wrong, of defeat, of failure, when events must be out- witted and setbacks overcome. This is precisely what happens in the Satanic verses incident.”

So why did Muslims later on reject these Satanic Verses?

Firstly, the hadith sciences that they had developed basically evaluated almost all of these hadiths as weaks. More importantly, and this is the REALLY INTERESTING part, the image of a fallible prophet who could succumb to the pressure of Satan and basically peer pressure didn't fit with their idea of the prophet espescially at a time when they were deriving laws from the actions of Muhammad pbuh. Dr Shahab excellently summarizes this view here: “In rejecting the Satanic verses incident, the Ḥadīth project—emerging with increasing force and definition from the mid-second century onward was disapprovingly at odds with the early understanding of Muḥammad’s Prophethood. The logic of the Ḥadīth project required an infallible Prophet whose words and deeds would lay down legal, praxial, and creedal norms for pious mimesis, as a definitive method by which to establish the veracity and authority of those prescribed norms. It is that logic, and that notion of Prophethood, that would later establish itself as Islamic orthodoxy.”

So did the Satanic Verses incident actually happen???

As to the actual historicity of this event, Dr Shahab Ahmed says that orientalist scholars in the past have generally taken this Satanic verses incident to be true BECAUSE early muslims accepted it despite it running contrary to their idea of an infallible Muhammad pbuh, HOWEVER in sight of how early Muslims actually viewed Muhammad pbuh as a person struggling with prophethood this argument does not have strong merit as there is presumably no reason why early Muslims could not have made it up.

Lessons to be drawn from this research (imo):

1. Muhammad was not infallible. He was a remarkable person who was a great moral character but NO he did make mistakes. This infallibility prescribed to him was a later invention!
2. Hadiths, Tafsir, Sirah or ANY Islamic materials outside of the Quran all reflect the biases and perceptions of Muslims of their time. Only treat Quran - the word of Allah as infallible!

Hello. I have had this laptop for what is 4 years now. I bough it for 600 euros and was branded as a failry good laptop. It definelly wasnt good but it was able to play most games at 60 fps medium graphics no problem. I runned a test on userbenchmarks and got 40% gaming a 99% desktop and a 68% workstation. But this isnt what i am talking about. 1 year ago things got bad. My laptops cpu and gpu started overheating massively reaching 110 degrees Celcious from the normal 70 degrees. My laptops fan also started to turn off and on all slow down massivelly. My Cpu, a AMD Ryzen 7 3700u, clock speed started crashing every 5 seconds from a 2.8GHZ to a 0.4 GHz. My Gpu, an AMD Radeon Vega 10, is an integrated graphics card and its clock speed fell to 200 MHz from my normal 700 MHz. My Ram, 8gb 2400 MHz DDR4 only has 6gb available and 3 of them are used in i dont know where, so only 3 gb. My Gpu Memory clock speed is going crazy some times and some times not. In general my fps went from 60, medium graphics, in World of Warships to 30 in lowest graphics. My fps went from 60 maximum graphics in Roblox, to 20 in lowest. My fps went from 60 medium in trackmania to 30 in low. From 260 in TMNF to 70. My fps went from 60 in hearts of iron to 15 while the game speed slowed by 3 times at its minimum. After that happened i started to search for any solution, trying to figure out whats wrong but even 2 months of searching every single word related to laptops and issues i found nothing anywhere near represending my case. It was about 1 month after that that my laptop fan started making weird cranky noises from time to time and generally every time i opened my laptop. after that my laptop started to shut off many times because of my cpu getting way to overheated. One day my cpu reached 115 degree mark where it normally shut off but it was going 0.1 GHz that the emergency turn off didnt even work until it reached 148 degrees. I was using AMD Radeon Software by the way. I spend another hundet of hours searching for anything that could help me but there was nothing. I did everything suggested to me by alot of people. 5 months ago is the time now and my laptop has gotten even worse. Every time i press restart my laptop simply closes and doesnt open. The turn off button doesnt work most times because my laptop crashed on the turn off screen. I get the blue screen and i cant get out. I am forced to do repairs which dont work. In the words of the repair screen "Repair has failed, try again" (It didnt say that but thats the short version). So i had to do a factory reset again. Thankfully the restart and turn off button work fine. 4 months go by with my laptop overheating problem having cooled down. Some games dont load, Power point crashes every time which is very importand for my homework. Word doesnt work either so i cant do my homework. At that point i got frustrated beyond believe because now it isnt only my gaming life getting effected but my school grades. I scout for any answers.. Nothing again. 2 weeks ago i did a Userbenchmark and my scores were: 4% Gaming, 43% desktop, 27% workspace. 1 week ago my laptop started getting very big and sometimes long stutters when my laptop completly froze. I have QuickCpu for monetaring my cpu and the result of that stutter was a straight line with the same stats and time not moving. My laptop has crashed many times, ALT f4 hasnt worken many times because of how slow my laptop is moving but despite it QuickCpu has always kept working. For it to display a straight line were time apparently doesnt move.. something aint right. And now we reach today. Most games load now. Powerpoint, word and the rest dont work still. I did the Userbenchmark again and got the same results. Stutters are getting longer every time i get one. I got another blue screen. Everything is starting to lag and i am noticing a time delay between me pressing buttons in the keyboard and actually typing it. The same with my mouse. The weird cranky noise from my fan still goes on till this day. Fps has gotten worse. From my 60 fps in medium in War thunder i now get 20 in the old videocard setting with lowest. every other game has lost fps too but on this scale. I was getting 60 fps in medium settings when i had the issue not before. And before anyone points out drivers, all of them are the latest. And no getting a new laptop isnt an option, Neither is getting a pc. The only thing working fine at this moment of time is windows updates.
Hope anyones has any information, any tips, anything that can help me i am glad to hear it. Like just throw out random ideas for me to try.

Just started my fourth week in an acute stroke/geriatric ward. I have to do 40 hours per week along with assignments worth 50% of my grade and an exam that's worth another 50%. I also have a part time admin job, because we don't get paid for nursing placements in my country. Financially I'm struggling but still able to get by with savings. Anyway, no complaints with any of that, it's hard and stressful, but I expected it to be. The one thing I didn't expect is my preceptor.
In the past, I've always had a good rapport with preceptors and felt very supported in my learning journey, and they would give me honest feedback that I always appreciated. But with my current one, I feel as though I am expected to know everything overnight and be perfect in every possible way because "you're in third year now". It's pushing me to do better, but today it just got overwhelming. While she was yet again condescendingly pointing out what I've done wrong with no commend on what I did do right, I basically told her how I felt a lot of pressure coming from all her micromanaging and how she never gives me the opportunity to correct my mistakes, and how instead I am immediately criticized for the things I do both wrong and right. I told her that I've lost confidence in my skills and that I was so tired of having to live up to whatever she expected me to be. She interrupts my handovers because I get neevous and stutter, she answers call bells while I am with another patient saying I should be answering all of them myself because she's only shadowing me, and that I should report to the TL directly without even needing to escalate care to her first because I am "technically already a nurse". Idk if any of that is valid but she seemed confident that she was saying the right things so I am now at a loss on what to do.
Before this placement, I haven't even stepped foot in a hospital for 6 months. I have also never been placed in an acute ward, always been in rehabilitation and only used to be 2-3 shifts a week. I had no control of any of these, just the way my university scheduled things, and my preceptor knows all of this. Not using my circumstances as an excuse, but it would honestly make my life 10 times easier if my preceptor could have just a little bit of understanding and patience. I know I get prompted a lot, but if she gave me just a little more time to think between her little ramblings then my train of thought wouldn't constantly get interrupted. I feel so stupid and incompetent as a nurse when I'm with her. I understand I have to face these kinds of situations and I have so much more to learn, but she makes me feel bad for not knowing things I've never encountered before, and it is so discouraging. I want to take this on as a challenge for me to overcome and grow, then apologise to her for "snapping" at her, but I also don't think we mesh well in general so a different preceptor would help me learn the same amount. I don't think it would be good for my record to do the latter though, so I'm honestly at a loss.
After my outburst, she backed off on the micromanaging and the shift went well, although very awkwardly. I'm kind of concerned she'd tell other nurses in the ward about my little outburst because I know she likes to gossip, but whatever. I'll take it as it comes, and tomorrow is another day.

When watching shows like this everything has to be taken with a giant ladle of salt. Given the absurdity of the show, it is perfectly reasonable to believe that Gus is a walking encyclopedia. It is completely fine, that a nanny-agency can install cameras in peoples homes with flawless 1000x magnification that record people pin combinations from accross the street. And it is absolutely normal that they would unearth T-Rex fosils while solving two crimes.
All of these things are part of a whimsical make believe reality, designed for us viewers to turn our brains of and have a good time.
However I do believe that there are implicit rules for these shows, which govern, when reason can be thrown out the window and when normal real life standards should be applied.
Unreasonable shenanigans and absurd circumstances are meant to be applied for the setup of a story or as a humorous interjection, but never as a conclusion.
Juliet's "harrassment" allegation is clearly the latter. The thought, that someone may get into genuine trouble, after a single instance of aproaching another person in an awkward (slightly inappropriate) manner, without being asked for context, is quite absurd.
If this situation had been used as a setup for a larger story, I could forgive the lazy writing, but this is meant to be a learning moment for Juliet. We are meant to accept that her behaviour was bad enough to possibly derail her whole career and that she was lucky to get away with a stern talking to.
And it wasn't even necessary to raise the stakes so high. The officer could have just gone to HR, which could have prompted a meeting with O'Hara, in which someone gives her the whole 'appropriate workplace behaviour' speech. This would have had the same effect on her, without having the same weight for the viewers.
Many shows have these moments, in which they create astronomical stakes for assinine reasons. But the conclusion is never "oh how stupid was this whole situation", instead it is always "whew, we just barely got out of this in one piece", when it should have never come to that situation in the first place.

There will be TEN QUESTIONS this week ranging from questions most everyone can get to questions that might stump just about everyone. Your goal is to quickly answer them to the best of your ability. You get a one point speed bonus for finishing in under 5:00.

As usual, the finalists gathered yesterday and took this week’s trivia in advance. This was done mainly as a check to ensure that the finalists were above board and not cheating.
However, the finalists have been sworn to secrecy and will not discuss the questions until the Trivia window closes Wednesday morning.

My journey began a few years ago when I discovered the New Thought Movement. I wasn't in a good place mentally and emotionally and searched for something that would help me make sense of my life events. I read books by Neville, Zeland, Hicks, Allen, Hill, Byrne, Scovel Shinn, Murphy, Haanel, Tolle, Despenza, Maltz, Doty, and many many others. Yep... I was a little obsessed. But, Neville's work was my favorite. It is his wisdom and insight that helped me start off a string of conscious manifestations that changed my life.
I'll never forget my first conscious manifestation. I decided to test the law and picked something small and random. I wanted a large butterfly to land on my left pinky. I visualized and did SATS for a few days then forgot about it cuz I still thought it was stupid. 4 weeks later, I am at a beach with my friends having a blast and what I am seeing? A butterfly flying in circles around me. It didn't land on my finger but it eventually landed near me. I approached it and extended my arm. Normally that would have spooked a butterfly, but this one just sat there. I asked a friend to take a photo. Then I extended my hand more and the butterfly climbed up my left little finger and sat there for a few seconds. I was in shock but kind of had to hide it because I didn't want my friend to start asking questions. I wasn't ready to explain it.
I remember driving home and thinking WHAT THE #$%^K I now have free time to enjoy my hobbies. I'm finally writing my first novel. I have had a bumpy ride with my SP because of my shaky self-esteem (well, it was shaky pre-Neville but it is much better now). Things have been improving between us. I have perfect health and am in a good mood (note, I used to get depressed here in there in the past, but then did SATS on feeling joyful and am reaping the benefits now). Like that's actually insane, now that I look back at it. I have manifested a bunch of new friends - all amazing, kind, loving, and happy people. All of these things took me 1.5 years of sats and positive self-talk.
I even caught myself thinking: what now? I feel like I have everything I've ever wanted. I saw a few other people here on this sub asking this same question -- what do I do now that I have everything I've ever wanted? Well for me... I feel it's time to just enjoy life. I do lots of arts and creative work, and that makes me super happy. The rest of my free time I dedicate to helping my family, my friends, my community. I actually dream of starting a charitable org here in my city. I feel very grateful and I feel a strong urge to give back.
Why am I sharing this blah blah with you, guys?
I simply want you to believe in yourselves. I want you to know that you are Gods. Some people are uncomfortable with this title, then just think of yourself as being in complete control of everything. That is pretty freaking empowering if you were to ask me. This community has been a major support network for me, and I want to thank you all for being awesome.
Just know that everything is possible. And, I mean everything.

What is Dark Magic?
That's the question, I'm sure, if not every single one, but the majority of readers asked themselves at least once. Dark Magic in general is described as magic malicious in nature, one that's used to cause harm. It doesn't really make sense: a good applied Incendio is just as well to kill you as a swift Killing Curse, even more painfully, in fact. Or why Imperius is Unforgivable, but love potions are totally fine and legal and not considered Dark? And I'm sure people here are painfully familiar with many such arguments.
Did you know that "Petrificus Totalus" spell Hermione used on Neville at the end of the first book is a dark charm? Apparently, according to "The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1" from Pottermore, jinxes, hexes and curses (though the last one is obvious) are all dark spells. And that includes such things as Ron's Slug-Vomiting Curse, Ginny's signature Bat-Bogey Hex, even Leg-Locking Curse that Draco used to bully Neville in first year. All because their purpose is to cause a negative effect.
So, some Dark Magic is bad, but other is used regularly in schoolyard fights, and no one bats an eye. Where's the line and who sets it?
Alright, Dark Magic in canon doesn't make sense. That means, that a lot of fic writers take it upon themselves to fill the gaps in logic and give their own definitions of what magic constitutes as dark. From the top of my head, I can remember a few, let me know if you recognize them:

• Dark magic is magic that's powered by emotions. Everyone knows that to properly use Killing or Cruciatus Curse, you have to fully desire to cause death and pain, so that fits. Also, by this definition, Patronus Charm is dark because it's powered by happiness. Why not, quite a good irony.
• Dark magic is powered by external source, while "light" magic is internal. I don't remember the details, but it was something to the effect that external makes it more powerful, and power corrupts, so it's feared. A bit strange but has a nice message behind it. Also, why I'm on the topic, a friendly reminder to those who are too deep in fanon and mix things up with canon. There's no such thing as "light" magic, just like there was no "Light" side in the war. There's Dark and there's everything else.
• Dark magic is one that is secret familial magic. People develop or discover new spells and for whatever reason decide not to share them, but to hoard them in their family grimoire, so other people don't know such a powerful spell or countermeasures against it. Usually this is followed by some heavy pureblood Houses politics, Lordships and such. Also, I've seen fics where bloodline gifts such as Tonks' metamorphmagus ability were considered Dark Magic for whatever reason (Bashed Dumbledore's propaganda to suppress pureblood Houses, more likely).
• Dark magic is the one that's forbidden by government. This is my personal favorite, as I prefer harder magical systems. In this case, it means that there's nothing inherently wrong in this magic, it's not different in nature from any other magic, just one that's seen as too dangerous. Of course, it also invites a heavy abuse by government to declare anything they don't want to as dangerous Dark Magic that's to be prosecuted for, but that's another story.

I like these theories, I like when people try to come up with their own interpretations or their ways to fill the holes in lore and logic. Not all of them I agree with, but it hardly matters.
What peeves me, however, is when authors use this fact, that there's no clear definition of Dark Magic or Dark Arts, as an excuse to basically do whatever they want. A character (more likely, main one) does or practices something that people don't like, so they just accuse them with an empty argument "it's bad, it's Dark Magic!". And no one can argue, because no one understands what Dark Magic even is! They don't have a box list of criteria to disprove. "I don't know what you're doing, I don't understand it - it's Dark Magic, it's bad."
It's one of the favorite arguments in Hermione or Order bashing stories when MC does something they do not approve of. Dumbledore bashing uses a bit different arguments, but this one can also be included.
It's just such a... I don't want to call it a bashing tool, because I can't say if every such story involves a heavy bashing, but it has potential to be, at least. I'd call it a bludgeoning tool. Just a blunt method to make characters do whatever they want without the need for any finer details: it's so much easier to just use the brand "Dark Magic" and get over it, why give any explanations.
Although, to be completely fair, canon does it as well to some extent.

“Did something happen to it when Flint blocked him?” Seamus whispered.
“Can’t have,” Hagrid said, his voice shaking. “Can’t nothing interfere with a broomstick except powerful Dark magic — no kid could do that to a Nimbus Two Thousand.”

Non-Dark magic can't do something like that? What is Dark about taking control of a broom anyway? Though, admittedly it's Hagrid, no matter his virtues, not the most reliable or knowledgeable of sources on this topic.

“Ask him,” shrieked Filch, turning his blotched and tearstained face to Harry.
“No second year could have done this,” said Dumbledore firmly. “It would take Dark Magic of the most advanced — ”

Again, I don't understand what the heck it is, so it must be Dark Magic. But, it is Dumbledore and highly knowledgeable wizard, plus it's clearly a harmful effect, so it's more assumption based on those, plus experience.

“Nonsense, O’Flaherty,” said Professor Binns in an aggravated tone. “If a long succession of Hogwarts headmasters and headmistresses haven’t found the thing — ”

“But, Professor,” piped up Parvati Patil, “you’d probably have to use Dark Magic to open it — ”
The Chamber of Secrets can't be kept a secret without resorting to Dark Magic? If no one found it, so it must be something truly obscure and terrible, so it's Dark. But, I mean, she's a second year girl...

Black jumped at being addressed like this and stared at Hermione as though he had never seen anything quite like her.

“If you don’t mind me asking, how — how did you get out of Azkaban, if you didn’t use Dark Magic?”
But Hermione surely disappoints here. Apparently, non-Dark countermeasures are all accounted for, so if they failed he must have used some Dark stuff.
It's very sad picture, which says about either ignorance on the matter, which is excusable for children but pity that it's not taught, or arrogance in the assumption that you know every bit of non-Dark magic there is and can be.
Anyway, we came back to the canon and it's understanding of Dark Magic. I spent some time thinking about it, what J.K.Rowling meant by it, without resorting to any headcanons.
No one can argue that Harry Potter series is filled with symbolism as any good fiction tends to be. It's a story for children, at least started as, and young adults, so besides a good adventure it also contains a moral message and more than one. The story of Boy-Who-Lived is about love and redemption, first and foremost. "Love is the most powerful thing in the world" is not just a preaching of a senile old man, but the most central point of the whole book series.
So, based on this, I believe that in canon Dark Magic at its basics is the magic that corrupts the soul. What it means is open to interpretation, as it often is when the topic of a human soul is involved. It's all based on the same moral messages between the lines: when you do bad things to others, it slowly but surely corrupts your soul, and if you fall into temptation, only love and compassion can heal the harm done to yourself. Harry vs Voldemort is basically the fight between Love and Hate, Soul and Soulless. That's why Patronus is basically an epitome of defense. And that's why Horcruxes are considered to be The Darkest of Magic, when it literally tears the soul apart. And that's why the cold blooded murder is even involved in the process of making one - metaphorical tear becomes literal.
To be completely honest, I find myself a bit resentful of the message, no matter how nice and beautiful it sounds. It somehow implies that soul is only about love, compassion, friendship and so on, that any negative feelings do not and must not have a part in it. But, I guess, it's a bit too much of a philosophical, ethical and psychological question to dive into in here.
