My grandpa passed away last month and had a 2019 Nissan Kicks he was paying off. My mom is willing to use 5k of her inheritance to add to the principle of the loan, and I would get it refinanced in my name. The new loan would be just under 13k.
I currently drive a 2007 Toyota yaris with 236k miles. I drive frequently for work as I see clients in-home. No issues with the car, it runs great. I had initially planned to continue driving the car until it dies, and I know it's still got some life left; the previous owner took excellent care and I have been consistent on care as well. Things I've been especially looking forward to in a new car are apple car play/modern sound system and having my car actually get warm in a reasonable amount of time during the winter (I drive 15 min between seeing clients and my car doesn't get fully warm until I arrive at my next destination).
Here are my concerns: -I love Toyota and the reliability and lifespan of the cars and had previously vowed to only ever purchase Toyotas...I'm still not sure about driving anything other than Toyota (or Honda) -Cost: I'm not thrilled about starting a car payment in the near future, but considering the overall deal I would get with the extra chunk of inheritance from my mother and what my grandpa has already paid, I'm willing to if I know I'm getting a really great overall deal -The steering wheel is a little too close for comfort. I am a large person (about 5'6 and ~290 lbs) and my belly brushes up against the steering wheel. I know the wheel was all the way up when I drove it last time, but I do not know if the wheel was all the way in; I cannot test this right away as I live across the country from my family. If it were to continue to be an issue, are there any accomodations that can be done to help this? The car is comfortable width wise, it's just the steering wheel issue. And please do not suggest weight loss as a solution, I have other health diagnoses and medication that makes it extremely difficult; I'm here to discuss cars, not my body.
Any suggestions or questions to reflect on in making this decision? If you were in my situation, what would you do?

As the title reads, contracted covid around 12 months ago, I laid in bed for around a week on my left side, after I noticed my eustachian tube would not open on the left side, only when doing the Valsalva manuvour "hold nose and blow" it opens the tube but feels like an object or something heavy even sticky crackling feeling inside. The tube closes as soon as I stop blowing which causes a full feeling in my middle ear.

I've been a long time Deathadder fan, since I have big hands and it's been the best shape for large hands and palm grip, period. The Elite/V2 were almost perfect in shape/weight (only minor issue which I had was the inability to save the RGB on mouse profiles which is something really unacceptable to me as an embedded engineer - it's definitely possible and easy to do). I've recently tried the Deathadder V3 and I'm very disappointed.
First it's too light, which can also be an issue when trying to properly control the mouse (it's meant to be a large hand mouse so you have more force at your disposal anyway). The shape change is really bad, it looks and feels generic, like a Razer variant of an EC1. It's almost like every manufacturer has their own version similar to this. I don't really like the Apple-esque less is more philosophy (no scroll buttons and no RGB - they literally had a DA Chroma named after the RGB for crying out loud). I don't like the separated mouse clicks - it looks ugly and it creates a gap for grime while the feeling almost same.
In the end I think that Deathadder V3 looks very similar to the Cobra and the Viper, it's like they made three generic mice instead of sticking to their old, tried and tested classic shape. I don't understand why variety is a bad thing - why does each mouse have to be similar to the other model. So, what can Razer do to improve the shape of the old Deathadder which will make them a decent profit? Just literally release a wired classic version (speedflex cable is excellent) of the Deathadder with an illuminated metal scroll wheel (similar to what the G502 has), where you can save the RGB on each memory profile and convert one DPI button to allow the mouse wheel to spin freely (like the basilisk has). Maybe add a mouse resistance wheel at the bottom of the mouse (similar to what the basilisk has/had). Remove the rubber sides and instead try to mold/shape the plastic for better grip. That's my vision of the Ultimate Deathadder.

Decant Reviews Part II: The Revenge! This batch came to me from the most excellent u/Hype_Moments, who thoughtfully reached out to me to inform me of his services after I expressed dismay at my inability to obtain samples directly from Montagne. The decants arrived promptly and packaged securely enough to withstand a nuclear blast! I also appreciate the attention to detail when it comes to labeling: matching Montagne's font and including the notes makes the sampling process feel very deluxe. Great experience, would order again!
On to the fragrances. Unless stated otherwise, I have not smelled the inspiration fragrances, so I am judging these on their own merit. For your reference, I typically prefer unisex fragrances, but I decided to roll the dice and included three feminine scents this time. I'm 29, and I work in both office and classroom environments. Let's get into it!
Eau Vanille: This one is not for everyone, but it's definitely for me. The rich, deep vanilla combined with the guiac wood and incense smells like going to mass at a grand Cathedral. Sophisticated, solemn, mysterious. I imagine that Notre Dame smells like this on Good Friday. Honestly, it kind of reminds me of my confirmation. I swear, the oil the bishop puts on your (greasy, 13-year-old) forehead smells a lot like this. That said, I love this because it reminds me of a positive moment in my faith formation, but it may evoke complex or negative reactions in others. The incense calms down after a couple of hours, which allows the vanilla to shine. Definitely not too sweet, and reads straightforwardly unisex to me. If you're a vanilla-lover looking for something a bit different with some oomph, this could be for you. Maybe not the best choice for the heat of summer, but I will be looking to purchase the full bottle come autumn. Would wear to my arch-rival's funeral.
Strawberry Milk: The wildcard of the bunch. I did not think I was going to like this because I thought it was going to be extremely juvenile and sickly sweet. I ordered it out of pure curiosity after hearing about the ungodly sums folks were shelling out to get their hands on a bottle. While it's definitely a sweet gourmand, it's not syrupy sweet. It's kind of fruity and powdery and just a bit herbal. There's something in here that comes off a little minty to my nose, which is baffling considering the notes. I'm not getting anything particularly strawberry-like, though. Maybe a hint of something lactonic, like malted milk powder, and a burnt-sugar note that could be caramel. Very wearable if you like sweet scents. Not obtrusive, kind of like if you gave a your-skin-but-better scent some moxie. Certainly not your typical celebrity scent. I could see a lot of women liking this. The longevity wasn't the best on this one, though: I think I got about four hours out of it. I'm not personally in love with it, but I'm glad I tried it.
Pink Rose Exclusif: Good Lord, y'all. This THE hot girl perfume. The most attractive woman you can think of probably wears this. It's a really beautiful, sweet, creamy, powdery rose wrapped in a veil of incense and supported by vanilla and woody notes in the base. There's some fruitiness in there too, particularly in the opening. Despite the powderiness and incense, it's quite edible smelling; like a fruity sponge cake that's also drenched in rose syrup, served immediately after the Confirmation service (callback!). I recognize this scent because I have encountered it in the wild on women wearing Delina Exclusif or its dupes, and it definitely... affects me, shall we say. This will turn heads for sure. It also lasts forever with excellent projection. I put on 3 sprays, wore it all day, went to sleep, and then my pillow and sheets smelled like Pink Rose Exclusif for DAYS, just from coming into contact with my arm. You absolutely do not need much of this. As much as I love it, I'm on the fence about whether to buy it, because I'm not sure how often I would actually wear it. It's a little more femme than my personal style usually calls for, imo. Plus, I'm not sure I want all the attention this would garner. That said, it's a 10/10 frag, I'd go for it today if I were single and ready to mingle. UPDATE: After writing this review, I got the opportunity to test the OG in-store, and I can confirm that this is a 1 to 1 dupe. I don't detect any difference whatsoever. Nice work, Montagne!
Pink Rose: This one humbled me. I had already tried the Exclusif version, and figured this was the more wearable, daytime version. I did my normal application (1 spray each on wrists & inner elbows, 2 sprays on the neck, 1 on the front of my shirt) and then headed to the office. When my coworker told me I smelled good from 6 feet away, I knew I had overdone it. I was smelling this all day long, from the 8:30 AM application until bed time. And not just little whiffs here and there, I'm talking constant presence in my olfactory organ. A little distracting, if I'm honest. Luckily, it's a beautiful fragrance. Florals are hit or miss for me, but I have a soft spot for rose. Whereas the Exclusif smells like rose dessert, this smells like a living rose growing fresh and vibrant in the garden. The litchi and rhubarb bring in a little sharpness, and there's a green accord in there that's really refreshing. This is rose done in a modern, interesting way, and I dig it. Feminine, but in a way that feels manageable for my typical presentation. Despite my initial blunder, I do think it's more every-day wearable than its sister as long as you are conservative with your application. Will buy for sure, and probably sooner rather than later.
Carnal Gray Extrait: In a word: exquisite. This smells like being wealthy, well-traveled, and the hottest person at the function. Charisma in a bottle. Effortlessly sexy without being provocative. It's well blended, but not linear. We start with a spicy, herbaceous opening; you get the cardamom right away, with some sweet green undertones. Then, a beautiful dry down. It becomes more powdery with a bit sweetness thanks to iris, tonka, and vanilla. The woodiness from cedar and sandalwood and earthiness from vetiver and patchouli keep it from going gourmand, and the result is something deep, dark, and complex. Perfect for special occasions where you want to dress to impress, this would be the ultimate companion to a well-tailored suit or a fancy cocktail dress. Apparently folks are somewhat divided on whether Gris Charnel Extrait leans feminine or masculine, but to me, CGE is perfectly unisex. Great performance; three sprays lasts me all day with moderate projection. This is my favorite fragrance from Montagne so far, and in the running for my favorite fragrance of all time. It's probably not the best choice for the hot, humid summer that's coming my way, but I don't even care, this is going to the top of the queue. 12/10, I am writing in my will that I want this sprayed on me before I go in the casket.
Brooklyn Jazz: At last, a fragrance that I can compare to its inspiration! I have smelled and fallen in love with Maison Margiela's Jazz Club, and was super excited to see how the wallet-friendly version from Montagne stacks up. Indeed, it's a very close match. We have a nice peppery opening that gives way to boozy, rum tobacco heaven. It's not in the notes, but this definitely comes off leathery to my nose. It smells like sitting in a leather armchair, sipping on dark liquor, and smoking... some kind of tobacco product. I want to say a pipe rather than a cigar, but neither is my vice of choice, so I can't be sure. Either way, old school badass. Think Ron Swanson in Duke Silver mode. If anything, there is perhaps more of an herbal accord here that I didn't notice in Jazz Club, but that could be due to the translation from EDT to EDP. Masculine leaning, but still suitable for ladies who appreciate smokey scents. Altogether, a lovely warm and cozy scent. Decent longevity, but the projection could be better (maybe needs maceration). I do like it, but I'm more motivated to get my hands on Carnal Gray Extrait and Eau Vanille, both of which are certainly different, but occupy a similar region of the fragrance family tree. I may pick it up after I make it through the summer.

Pink Rose: This one humbled me. I had already tried the Exclusif version, and figured this was the more wearable, daytime version. I did my normal application (1 spray each on wrists & inner elbows, 2 sprays on the neck, 1 on the front of my shirt) and then headed to the office. When my coworker told me I smelled good from 6 feet away, I knew I had overdone it. I was smelling this all day long, from the 8:30 AM application until bed time. And not just little whiffs here and there, I'm talking constant presence in my olfactory organ. A little distracting, if I'm honest. Luckily, it's a beautiful fragrance. Florals are hit or miss for me, but I have a soft spot for rose. Whereas the Exclusif smells like rose dessert, this smells like a living rose growing fresh and vibrant in the garden. The litchi and rhubarb bring in a little sharpness, and there's a green accord in there that's really refreshing. This is rose done in a modern, interesting way, and I dig it. Feminine, but in a way that feels manageable for my typical presentation. Despite my initial blunder, I do think it's more every-day wearable than its sister as long as you are conservative with your application. Will buy for sure, and probably sooner rather than later.
Carnal Gray Extrait: In a word: exquisite. This smells like being wealthy, well-traveled, and the hottest person at the function. Charisma in a bottle. Effortlessly sexy without being provocative. It's well blended, but not linear. We start with a spicy, herbaceous opening; you get the cardamom right away, with some sweet green undertones. Then, a beautiful dry down. It becomes more powdery with a bit sweetness thanks to iris, tonka, and vanilla. The woodiness from cedar and sandalwood and earthiness from vetiver and patchouli keep it from going gourmand, and the result is something deep, dark, and complex. Perfect for special occasions where you want to dress to impress, this would be the ultimate companion to a well-tailored suit or a fancy cocktail dress. Apparently folks are somewhat divided on whether Gris Charnel Extrait leans feminine or masculine, but to me, CGE is perfectly unisex. Great performance; three sprays lasts me all day with moderate projection. This is my favorite fragrance from Montagne so far, and in the running for my favorite fragrance of all time. It's probably not the best choice for the hot, humid summer that's coming my way, but I don't even care, this is going to the top of the queue. 12/10, I am writing in my will that I want this sprayed on me before I go in the casket.
Brooklyn Jazz: At last, a fragrance that I can compare to its inspiration! I have smelled and fallen in love with Maison Margiela's Jazz Club, and was super excited to see how the wallet-friendly version from Montagne stacks up. Indeed, it's a very close match. We have a nice peppery opening that gives way to boozy, rum tobacco heaven. It's not in the notes, but this definitely comes off leathery to my nose. It smells like sitting in a leather armchair, sipping on dark liquor, and smoking... some kind of tobacco product. I want to say a pipe rather than a cigar, but neither is my vice of choice, so I can't be sure. Either way, old school badass. Think Ron Swanson in Duke Silver mode. If anything, there is perhaps more of an herbal accord here that I didn't notice in Jazz Club, but that could be due to the translation from EDT to EDP. Masculine leaning, but still suitable for ladies who appreciate smokey scents. Altogether, a lovely warm and cozy scent. Decent longevity, but the projection could be better (maybe needs maceration). I do like it, but I'm more motivated to get my hands on Carnal Gray Extrait and Eau Vanille, both of which are certainly different, but occupy a similar region of the fragrance family tree. I may pick it up after I make it through the summer.

I also talk about horror topics here, if the title didnât give that away, so hereâs a warning for that too. submitted by lady_lorienn to mylittlepony [link] [comments] So Iâve been both an enjoyer of and a contributor to the MLP fandom for a little over ten years now, mainly in the fanart and fanfiction space. While I love the more wholesome side of the fandom, one side Iâve always come back to is the more controversial and infamous subsection: horrogrimdark. Just like a lot of you, âSmile HD,â âCupcakes,â and âRainbow Factoryâ were not fun to stumble upon as a wee child new to the internet (content warning for those of you who are young and/or sensitive to violence, if youâre somehow unfamiliar and decide to look those up), but they stirred up a morbid curiosity within me to explore more of that sort of content and eventually became a genuine interest as I grew into adulthood within the fandom. (Granted, Iâm a horror enthusiast in general, so thereâs where some of my bias comes in.) And what I discovered was that (in my opinion) MLP grimdark honestly gets a bad rap. Not every horror story written within the MLP universe is shock content (or âgore pornâ as people like to call it), with their sole purpose being to shock and disgust readers with cute colorful characters suffering horrible fates ĂĄ la Happy Tree Friends. Thereâs still plenty of that to be found, of course. But a good majority of the works Iâve read have genuinely surprised me with how creative they are, how well and unexpectedly accurately they explore the characters of those featured within the stories, and how the world and lore of Equestria is utilized and expanded upon in order to shape these concepts. I found myself legitimately invested and spooked by a lot of the stuff I read, and I was reading My Little Pony horror. Iâm self aware enough to see how utterly silly that sounds, and it led me to really want to sit and think as to why horror works so well when it comes to MLP of all things. I think the most obvious point is the nature of Equestria itself and the canon scaries and monsters that exist: King Sombra, early Changelings,Tirek, The Pony of Shadows, dark/dangerous/unknown magic and afflictions, the entirety of The Everfree Forest, etc. This is a world that, despite its family-friendliness and our heroes winning through friendship in the end, is often hostile and dangerous. A lot of these concepts purported in various fanon really wouldnât be out of place. What would Equestria be like for its denizens without the PG/TV-Y rating? How would the characters react in these sorts of situations, especially given their Elements and personalities? These fics explore all of that and often do so very well. Iâve seen intricate and complex magic systems headcanoned and explained; existing creatures or concepts expanded upon; excellent and accurate character exploration. A lot of this applies to grimdark fanart too, btw; just a little less so, as a lot of that is done just for shock content lol. But that recent MLP Infection AU had some amazing and passionate concepts come out of it and it was a lot of fun to follow. I see a lot of horror mlp content as aâalbeit darkâlove letter to the series. Even though itâs done through this specific genre, so much of it is as faithful to the series and lore as can be, and often still holds true to those lessons and elements of friendship and harmony, even when those are put to much more serious and grim tests. All of this is thanks to the fandomâs many incredibly talented artists and authors as well. I know this is a controversial subject. Many people believe that the fandom should stay cute and wholesome, and that any interpretation of the show outside of those parameters âruinsâ it for other people. And thatâs fine if you think that way! Everyone has their preferences and ways of enjoying media, and this is something I myself am partial to. I just think other interpretations have their place too, and I guess Iâm curious how many other horror enthusiasts are in this fandom and what you guysâ thoughts on the whole MLP grimdark thing are. Project financing On February 20, 2024, the Company closed a bought deal private placement for gross proceeds of $28,751 and a financing package of US$50 million for the completion and ramp-up of PGP. The financing package consisted of a royalty restructuring and a cost overrun facility. Construction progress key performance indicators At the end of Q1 2024, overall construction was 98% complete, compared with 86% complete at the end of Q4 2023. With first gold having been poured on April 20, 2024 via gold recovered through the gravity circuit, the project construction is 100% complete on schedule and on the most recently provided budget of approximately C$339 million. Commissioning and ramp-up activities in the processing plant and in the mine continue towards achieving commercial production in Q3 of 2024. Safety The Project had no lost time injuries in Q1 2024. There was an increase in recordable injuries at the end of the quarter which in part, can be attributable to seasonal changes and the transition from construction to operations. As the Project continues its transition from construction into operations, focus has been placed on the ongoing development of standard operating procedures, in field job hazard analysis and worker training. There was a small increase in property damage reported in the quarter due in part to weather conditions and the onboarding of a significant number of new workers to the site. The re-enforcement of reporting to the operating team remains a key focus to ensure that all learnings are identified and applied to prevent re-occurrence and reflect in the future training plans. In Q2 2024, significant work will be placed to support the operational teams to begin to operate the newly constructed plant through the final stages of C4 and C5 commissioning. Processing plant and site infrastructure Mechanical and electrical work in the mill was substantially completed in Q1 2024 with minor associated systems and punch list items to complete. Focus has shifted to commissioning the process plant and ramp up as well as completing minor deficiencies. Stage one of the tailings storage facility (âTSFâ) raise was completed and accepted by the Engineer of Record for use. Earthworks activities in 2024 will focus on raising the spillway dam by three metres, producing material for the 2025 raise and advanced work on the Cascade Creek Diversion in preparation for the 2025 works and final completion of the diversion. The new water treatment plant was substantially mechanically and electrically completed in Q4 2023 with some minor areas remaining. The high-density sludge circuit was commissioned in Q1 2024 and is advancing towards full ramp up. The MBBR circuit was substantially complete in Q1 2024 and will begin full commissioning as the process plant continues to deposit tailings into the TSF and feed nitrogen species into the MBBR circuit. The site power reticulation was completed in Q1 2024. Sustaining capital works in 2024 will focus on reticulation to the Premier portal as well as the Big Missouri portal. Mine development Procon Mining & Tunnelling (âProconâ) a mine contractor with extensive experience in BC and the Golden Triangle continued to advance mine development at two portal areas: S1 about 9 kilometres north of the mill which accesses the Big Missouri and Silver Coin deposits, and the mill adjacent Premier Northern Light (âPNLâ) portal which accesses the Premier and Northern Light orebodies. As of the end of Q1 2024, Procon had about 57 people on site, 40 of whom were miners and 10 were maintenance personnel. At Big Missouri, Procon advanced development into several ore headings in the A zone, as well as reactivating the S1 ramp heading that goes to Silver Coin deposit. In Q1 Procon developed 936 metres at Big Missouri (258 metres in ore and 678 metres in waste, and by April 29, 2024, development advanced to 905 metres in waste and 507 metres in ore total in 2024. Including the development completed in late 2022 and late 2023, the total development to date is approximately 2,710 metres in both ore and waste. Productivities at Big Missouri have continued to improve, with availability of key equipment such as Maclean bolters being made a priority. During Q1 2024, the geological team continued to encounter high grade material occurrences in both face sampling and probe hole drilling in multiple areas of the A zone. As previously reported, these occurrences are in or very near existing wireframes or logical extensions of wireframes. At the end of March 31, 2024, a total of approximately 30,000 tonnes of ore was mined from Big Missouri and stockpiled at Diego pit. At PNL, Procon dealt with issues related to near surface structure and weak ground. These issues seem to have abated at the end of April, and Procon has started to make better progress as they move into the better ground conditions expected at Premier given what was seen historically. In Q1 2024 approximately 85 metres were advanced at PNL, and at the end of April this increased to approximately 150 metres as ground conditions improved. Mining development is being advanced down into the Premier deposit for initial mining in the Prew Zone, with ore development now anticipated to begin in early Q3 2024, and initial longhole stope production following later in Q3 2024. The ramp has been strategically laid out to allow for underground drilling on the Sebakwe Zone in 2024 and will eventually connect a footwall ramp over to the 602 area at the southern end of the Premier deposit. Although progress has been slow, the quality of the resultant work with ground control and shotcrete arches has been excellent, allowing for a secure and stable ramp for the life-of-mine production to come from this area approximately 350 metres from the Premier Mill. Recruitment At the end of Q1 2024, total site recruitment has reached approximately 90% of the planned operational team. A key achievement was the successful recruitment for some challenging roles pertaining particularly to some of the maintenance roles, health and safety (specifically, mine rescue), and technical roles for the mine and processing area. Policies and procedures development have been ongoing throughout Q1 2024 and key documents will be rolled out in Q2 2024. Permitting and Environmental Compliance A Joint Permit Amendment Application (âJPAAâ) was required to be re-aligned with the project completion dates and was submitted in October 2023. The JPAA underwent first round comments through February 2024 and second round comments were received in late April 2024, with our responses anticipated to be submitted in May 2024. The air permit was received on March 25, 2024. The updated environmental permit PE-8044, including the sewage treatment facility discharge permit is anticipated to be received in late May 2024. 2024 EXPLORATION PROGRAM Planning for the 2024 exploration program is in full swing with an anticipated start date in late June. There are several areas on the properties that will be targeted by new drilling. Near the Premier mill, several drill holes have been planned around the Prew and Sebakwe zones of the Premier deposit. The new holes will complement the existing drill pattern at Prew and test induced polarization geophysical anomalies from last yearâs survey. Additional drill holes have been planned for the Big Missouri deposit where underground development is rapidly providing access to different parts of the deposit. The new holes will be designed for resource conversion and mine plan addition at this deposit. Specific new drill targets have been identified at the Day Zone on the western edge of the deposit, where geophysical anomalies seem to outline previously untested mineralization along strike of known ore zones. Additional exploration drill holes are targeting a large geophysical anomaly to the west of the Dilworth deposit that extends surface showings to the north onto Ascotâs PGP property. This target has a large strike extent and may require drilling over more than one exploration season. The Company anticipates a drill program of between 15,000 and 20,000 metres distributed over the areas described above. The program will require utilization of two drill rigs into late September or early October 2024. FINANCIAL RESULTS FOR THE THREE MONTHS ENDED MARCH 31, 2024 The Company reported a net loss of $6,208 for Q1 2024 compared to $7,589 for Q1 2023. Recap- The fledgling fighter, Serenity Steelheart, has just invaded Cragmaw Hideout hoping to save veteran adventurer, Sildar Halwinter. After weathering the hideoutâs first few lines of defense, Serenity's temporary ally, Beatrix the goblin, has revealed her whole plan. Beatrix hopes to form an alliance with a splinter faction of the Cragmaw goblins in order to overpower the current leader and take control for herself.
Story- âSo, do you trust me?â Beatrix asked with a smile.
âI trust you about as far as I can throw you.â Serenity said with a sigh. She then ended the light spell cast on her scimitar before continuing, âYou are quite small though, you may actually catch some air.â
Beatrix let out a triumphant laugh before taking Serenityâs hand and leading her back into the stream. Serenity winced as her feet sunk into the cool water, the slick stream bed seemed more treacherous without the benefit of her eyesight. As she sloshed blindly through the water Serenity began to second guess herself, this was hostile territory and sheâd just put her life in a near strangerâs hands.
Beatrix stopped wordlessly and received a quick kick in the pants as Serenity stumbled into her. The goblin grumbled to herself before leading Serenityâs hands to the charred wood of the lookoutâs destroyed bridge, âTheyâre up there.â
Serenity pulled on the worn wooden boards to test their strength before climbing up and finding herself in another more narrow cave with faint light visible in the distance. She took a breath and gagged as her nose was assaulted by the foul smells further ahead. After a slight nudge from Beatrix, Serenity hesitantly moved towards the light. The narrow passage quickly opened up to reveal a large chamber furnished with broken crates, soiled bedding, and a firepit that acted as a light source. Serenityâs presence, of course, did not go unnoticed and before long she found herself surrounded by confused, angry goblins.
Beatrix pushed further into the cave as the other goblins shouted commands and questions at Serenity. âYeemik!â
After a few moments a robust looking goblin with a scowl trudged out from the deepest part of the cave and growled, âThe hellâs all this noise f-â He cut himself off as his eyes fell on Serenity, âWho the- How the- Explain!â
âThis is Serenity, sheâs crazy strong. With her help weâll finally be able to oust Klarg!â Beatrix said in a hurry.
âShe donât look too strong to me.â Yeemik glared at Serenity before continuing, âWhat makes you think you can take on a bugbear? You ever done that before?â
âShe-â Beatrix started before Yeemik raised a hand to silence her.
âI asked your girl. She knows how to talk, donât she?â
Serenity cleared her throat as Beatrix shot her a worried look. âI believe my skill can speak for itself. I was able to take out your ambush single handedly, I survived your flood trap, and Iâve fought my way past every line of defense you had to protect your living quarters. To doubt my abilities after all of that would be a brutal condemnation of your own.â
Yeemik snorted, âYou think Iâm too proud to admit that Iâm surrounded by jokers, eh? Weâre out in the middle of nowhere fighting for scraps! We ainât here because of our sterling track record, weâre just the riff raff Grell was willing to lose.â
An uncomfortable murmur spread throughout the cave as the rest of the goblins exchanged looks of frustration and disappointment. Then Beatrix spoke up again, âYeah, but we finished our mission! We got the dwarf the Spider wanted! When a reward gets passed down to us do you really want it to go to Klarg?â
Yeemik raised an eyebrow, this goblin wasnât as slow as the others. âAlright, you want to take care of our Bugbear problem. Whatâs in it for you, miss⊠Whoever you are.â
âSerenit-â
âDonât care!â
Serenity took a sharp breath. âI will assist your faction in eliminating Klarg. In return I demand the safe release of my ally, Sildar Halwinter. I already know heâs being held here.â
Yeemik looked confused for a moment before a flash of realization hit him, âOh, you mean Oldman Mumbles! Yeah, I think Iâd be willing to lose him.â
âExcellent. I suggest we head out now, our combined power will be more than enough to defeat Klarg.â
âHold up! What do you mean combined?â Yeemik barked, âYou really expect me to take on Klarg myself and then pay you for the inconvenience? What kind of nonsense deal is that!?â
âI-â Serenity stammered.
âNo! You just gave us a whole spiel about how great you are, Klarg should be light work for someone like you. Less you were lyinâŠâ Yeemik said, venom in every word.
âWell, I- Iâve expended a considerable amount of energy getting here, I donât know if I can beat him if Iâm not at full strength.â Serenity said.
âOh so now you're asking if you can take a nap to feel better?â
âYes, resting would be an absolute godsend right now. If I could get my magic back, that could give me the edge against Klarg.â
âOh really, you gonna ask me to make you supper too?â Yeemik sneered at Serenity.
âWhat?â
âYou must think Iâm pretty slow, miss adventurer. If I let you leave, we both know youâre just gonna come back with more humans and wipe the lot of us out!â
âNo, I-â
âIf I even THINK you left these here caves, Iâm gonna crave you friend like a pig!â Yeemik yelled.
Serenity glared at Yeemik, âSo you wonât let me rest, you wonât give me assistance, and you expect me to take on a foe that even you're too scared to fight.â
âShouldnât have shown your hand so fast little lady.â Yeemik laughed.
âCan I at least keep the goblin that I brought with me or do you intend to sabotage me further?â
Yeemik looked at Beatrix and shrugged, âEh, I donât care about that one.â
Serenity turned to leave before stopping dead in her tracks, âWait! Let me see Sildar! I need to know that heâs still alive!â
Yeemik looked surprised before motioning one of his goblins to go, âHeh, maybe you aint a complete tool afterall.â A goblin ran off and after an uncomfortably long wait returned dragging a half-conscious man behind him.
Serenity made eye contact with the prisoner for a moment before it clicked, Sildar had been beaten almost beyond recognition. She felt a growing rage in her core as she saw the way Yeemik had treated a hero. âCan you hear me?â
It took longer than it should have for Sildar to react, he slowly turned to look at his would-be rescuer and stared at her before something stirred in him, âSerenity!â He croaked, âYou, what are you doing here?â
âIâm here to save you, Sildar.â Serenity said, trying to hide the uncertainty in her voice.
âNo! You- agh- You have to get out of here!â Sildar panted, âTheyâll kill us both, Serenity. -huff- Save yourself.â
Sildarâs desperate warning was cut off when a goblin kicked him in the ribs. The creatureâs sadistic cackling ended abruptly as Serenity drove her scimitar into his shoulder. In an instant all of the goblins had weapons drawn as their injured ran for cover.
âHold! Everyone stop!â Yeemik shouted as ran between Serenity and his goblins. He then smeared as he looked at Serenity, âYou are getting too damn comfortable girl!â
Serenity grit her teeth and refused to lower her weapons. She took a step forward before being stopped as Beatrix grabbed onto her leg. âSerenity stop! If you do this, theyâll just kill Sildar to spite you.â
âShe ainât lying.â Yeemik said.
Serenity glared at Yeemik as she spoke, âI swear to you Yeemik, if you do anything to Sildar while Iâm gone you will WISH you were dealing with Klarg!â
âDeal! You take care of your business and Iâll keep my boys off yours.â Yeemik said with a fake smile, âNow get walking before anyone does anything they might regret.â
There was a tense silence for a few moments before Serenity turned to leave, âLetâs go, Beatrix.â
Notes- I cut skill rolls out of the narration since someone said they didnât like it and there were no voices in favor of them. For anyone curious, there were several Persuasion rolls made throughout this encounter to determine what would happen. As you can likely surmise, the dice were cold tonight.
Final Thoughts- Sorry for the long wait for this one, I had major trouble coming up with a way to make the story feel like it's moving forward despite Serenity failing on every level. Hope you were able to enjoy seeing Serenity struggle more than usual. The wait for the next part should be a lot shorter than this one was.

Hi everyone, looking for some advice here as I'm not sure which would be the best path for me.
I was a bio major at a top undergrad uni (think HYPSM) and enjoyed the subject but due to a number of mental health struggles only came out with a GPA of barely above 2.5-2.6 (unfortunately sGPA is about the same) about 3 F's which also did a number to my confidence for quite a while. I'm quite confident that I can now do better in upper level science courses and am happy to retake anything I need to; however my major did not cover all the standard premed requirements because I wasn't aiming to go into MD or DO back then (but have since found the DO path/philosophy extremely appealing to me)
I see that there are "prestigious" premed postbacc programs like Scripps that promise a tantalizingly high rate of med school acceptance; I've also heard that attending the postbacc of a UC increases your chances of being accepted into that particular UC's med school. However the min GPA for these seems quite high, and I'm also not sure I'd qualify for an SMP since I haven't technically completed my premed reqs yet. I did do fantastic in high school and have excellent test scores if that factors in.
Would it be better to DIY a postbacc at a CC and then apply to a "top" premed postbacc, or just enter an academic enhancer postbacc directly and try to get as much out of it as possible? Is an SMP a path to consider as well (i heard you need to have your premed reqs done beforehand?) I'm in California and would prefer to stay here if it helps (the in-state tuition vs private for UC's is looking pretty tempting as well...if I can get in!)

At the risk of sounding arrogant, I consider myself to be at least marginally more intelligent (both academically & socially) than the average person. Therefore, if I ever decided to suddenly risk prison time, risk my reputation, and risk enduring the wrath of modern-day âcancel cultureâ by scamming people out of their money:
- I certainly wouldnât do it for such paltry amounts of money. (i.e., anything less than $1,000 per victim.)
- I certainly wouldnât choose high school & college students as my âtarget audienceâ to scam, considering that most people without college degrees have abysmally low annual incomes. Why choose low-income victims when it would be much more profitable to target high-income, high-net-worth individuals earning at least six figures a year? I have knowledge in business consulting, and I promise you that a business owner would be a MUCH more lucrative mark than a low-income college student.
- I wouldnât choose such a time & energy-draining method of scamming people. Also, communicating back and forth with potential clients is an absurdly long time sink since only less than 10% of all potential clients who reach out to me actually become paying clients of mine. This means that 90% of my time communicating with potential clients ultimately proves to be a colossal waste of my irretrievable time & energy.

- Homework - they only takes up 15% of your final grade and are peer graded. The format is straightforward: here's the dataset, here's the problem, solve it using R (sometimes Excel). No strict right or wrong here, it's more about whether your peers think you've put in the effort and come to a decent conclusion. Some people write pages of analysis, some only have simple code and call it a day. How you score on your hw is up to your peers. Each Monday during office hours the TAs walk through how to approach the hw and provide you with some codes to start. Pro-tip: go to the TA office hours on Mondays. They break down how to tackle the homework and even throw some code your way. I have no prior experience in using R, so the first few weeks were pretty tough for me, but there're resources you can leverage. Give it your all early on, and the rest should flow smoother.
- Exams (50% total) - 2 midterms, 1 final. I don't think the exams are memorization heavy at all. Rather, they test you on how well you understand a concept and its operations in the real world (and how well you read questions lol cuz the exam questions can be sooooo tricky). Taking good notes from the lecture videos and have a good understanding of each concept from the start is more important. Prepare for the exams early, create good cheat sheet. They don't give you many practice exam problems like CSE6040 does, they give you a taste of how the question format will be like and that's about it.
- Course Project - peer graded just like the homework, you put in enough effort and have a reasonable conclusion, you're golden.
