2024.05.14 18:45 justradiationhere how do other sober alcoholics tell people they're an alcoholic without feeling judged?

I've (25F) been sober since 07/08/23. Enough time has passed that a lot of my anxiety and stress in early recovery has waned significantly. For the last year I have avoided a lot of social activities since I'm one of the only people I know who is my age and sober. I didn't want to risk being around alcohol at a club or party. I even avoided invites to get a drink with coworkers or old friends because I know I will never want just one or two. But now I am feeling more comfortable with the thought of socializing, joining clubs, or maybe even casually dating later this summer.
I don't know when I should disclose I'm in recovery to potential friends or casual partners? Is it necessary to even do this vs just saying I don't enjoy drugs or alcohol? With my one year coming up, I just feel more in control of myself now since I'm in therapy and attend meetings and don't have physical cravings for alcohol anymore.
Has anyone else felt uncomfortable with talking about recovery with new people who aren't addicts themselves? I don't know if it is solely in my head but I always feel sort of judged and like people are prying if they are too interested in why I don't drink or do drugs.
I've noticed, that I particularly feel judged or unable to get close to people who had suffered bc of other addicts in their life. Like close family or friends of alcoholics seem wary of me once they know I'm also an alcoholic. Or I feel like relapsing is the natural assumption they make if I'm tired, don't feel well, sleep in, stay up late, forget stuff, am clumsy, irritated, ect.
I'd like to avoid that as well as judgement for my past that has been behind me for almost a year. Would it be manipulative if I wasn't honest and just say I don't like alcohol?

2024.05.14 18:39 Typical-Analysis8108 Timmy Mallett hails NI as grand bike tour ends

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crgyy7n41exo
Timmy Mallett finishes UK and Ireland cycle in Donegal Timmy Mallett hails NI as grand bike tour ends Timmy Mallett outside Stormont
Television presenter Timmy Mallett has been on his bike and turning heads in Northern Ireland and County Donegal - but his grand tour is coming to an end.
The children's TV star, best known for shows like Wacaday, has been a common and welcome sight, stopping to speak to locals everywhere from Belfast to Bundoran.
Along the way there's been scenery sketching, sport and the odd Ulster Fry.
The journey, and Mallett's feel-good missives from the road that he's been regularly posting on social media, have been a hit with people the length and breadth of Northern Ireland.
As the journey enters its final leg, the 68-year-old has been talking about the inspiration behind his positivity on two-wheels: his brother Martin Mallett, who had Down's Syndrome, and died in 2018.
"My dear, darling brother Martin, with his language and learning difficulties, has been in my mind and in my heart every single day of this journey.
"Remembering to live in the moment, to engage with people and to stop to listen and to say 'you and me, I’m happy'."
Mallett's journey began in London last year, with him making his way around the coast of Britain, before he spent the last month pedalling 2,000km across Northern Ireland and Donegal.
He set off from Paddington Station in London last year, making his way around the coast of Britain.
Mallett rose to fame in the 1980s, presenting popular children's programmes such as Wide Awake Club, which later became known as Wacaday, and Around the World in 80 Seconds.
As a member of Bombalurina, he also scored a novelty number one hit in 1990 with Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini.
In 2008, he appeared in British grime artist Skepta's music video for 'Do The Rolex Sweep' before becoming a contestant in the jungle for ITV's I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!
GAA Ulster Final Mallett said he has been embracing his surroundings throughout his cycling journey.
"The important thing is to be curious and to be in the moment," he said. "It’s not about where we’re going, it’s about where we are right here, right now.
"That’s what I do on my bike. I find any opportunity to get off and look and ask a few questions. 'What’s that I’m looking at? Why is that important?'"
He also managed to catch the GAA Ulster Final between Donegal and Armagh on Sunday.
"I think sport has a really big role to play in our lives," he said.
"The way people get involved with GAA – I love it, the passion it’s played with."
Mallett has enjoyed cycling in Northern Ireland and hopes to return to continue exploring its "great cycleways" - although he concedes that "it's also got some shockers".
"It leads to wanting to explore more," he said. "But the time has come to head home.
"My team Oxford United are at Wembley Stadium on Saturday so I’ve got to go home for that. But I would like to come back and explore more. I don’t know when that will be, I just know it will happen.
"Thank you to the good people of the North - you really have made this journey so enjoyable."

2024.05.14 18:21 No-Kaleidoscope-4050 I didn’t have a real Highschool experience

Freshman year of Highschool I had made a lot of friends. I was in ROTC,marching band and symphonic band. This was the only year of high school I had a decent experience. Sophomore year majority of the friends I had made freshman year were taking advanced AP and Honors classes. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life so I just continued to take regular classes. I became friends with the wrong group of kids. These kids convinced me to start smoking weed and start skipping school. I was never doing my schoolwork so after my sophomore year I had to retake all of my core classes that summer because I had failed every single core class. I had failed so many classes I wasn’t even able to retake them all in that summer and I ended up having to retake some of the classes first semester of junior year. Junior year it got worse. I started skipping school more frequently I was smoking weed and doing edibles I even tried Xanax and opioids at some point. I was constantly getting in school suspension and detention.
I had quit both marching band and ROTC by my Junior year. I became very depressed due to bullying and hopelessness. Started hurting myself and had to go to a mental hospital. By senior year I am actually doing a lot better. For the first time in Highschool I got a 4.0 GPA and I am no longer depressed. However I am in an online high school program my graduation is this month and honestly I don’t even feel proud about it.
I didn’t have a real high school experience. I never went to any homecoming dance. I wasn’t able to go to prom as I had been suspended too many times and my grades were too low. I wasn’t able to go to prom my senior year because the online Highschool program I am in doesn’t offer a prom. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life during Highschool so I never joined any sort of career related clubs. I did have friends during Highschool but these were the same people that convinced me to start doing drugs and skip school which only added to my bad mental health. It’s obvious those friends didn’t care a bit about me. The few good friends I did have ghosted me.
It just sucks seeing all the people I used to go to high school with posting their senior year experience. They go on field trips, go to proms, volunteer work, award ceremonies, etc. I wasn’t able to do any of that because I decided to go to an online Highschool my senior year. I mean my mental health and grades are better now but I sacrificed my social life for this so was it really worth it?
I just wish I would’ve been a better student during Highschool. I wish I wouldn’t have ever done drugs or smoked weed. I wish I would’ve actually tried in my classes. I wish I would’ve taken harder classes so I could’ve gone to my dream school. I wish I would’ve had more extracurricular activities. I wish I would’ve participated in more events at school. I just wish I could redo Highschool to make it more memorable.
If I have kids one day and they ask about my high school experience what am I going to tell them? I was a failing stoner. I just get sad thinking about Highschool I had so many opportunities to do better during high school but I didn’t.

2024.05.14 18:19 tempmailgenerator Implementing Direct Email Functionality in Flutter via PHP

Exploring Email Integration in Flutter Apps

Integrating email functionality within Flutter applications offers a seamless way for users to communicate directly from their mobile or web applications. Flutter, being a versatile framework for building natively compiled applications for mobile, web, and desktop from a single codebase, provides developers with a plethora of options for incorporating external services such as email. This capability is especially crucial for apps requiring user verification, support communication, or the ability to send notifications directly to users' email addresses. By leveraging Flutter's robust ecosystem, developers can enhance user engagement and provide a more cohesive application experience.
On the other hand, PHP stands as a powerful server-side scripting language that's widely used for web development and can serve as a backend for sending emails. Combining PHP with Flutter enables developers to create a secure and efficient email sending mechanism. This integration allows for handling the email sending logic on the server side, thereby offloading the heavy lifting from the client application. It ensures that the email functionality is not only efficient but also secure, as it leverages PHP's advanced features for email delivery, including handling SMTP protocols and securing email content against potential vulnerabilities.
Command/Function Description
mail() Sends email from a PHP script
SMTP Configuration Server settings for sending email
Flutter Email Package Flutter package for sending emails

Enhancing Communication in Flutter Applications

Integrating direct email functionality into Flutter applications opens a new realm of possibilities for app developers and business owners. This feature is not just about sending messages; it's a strategic tool for enhancing user engagement, providing support, and facilitating transactions. For instance, a Flutter app that allows users to directly contact customer support or receive transactional emails without leaving the app significantly improves the user experience. This direct line of communication can be crucial for feedback collection, user retention, and even for marketing purposes. By implementing email functionalities, developers can craft personalized user journeys, send updates, or promotions directly to their users' inboxes, thereby fostering a stronger connection between the user and the application.
From a technical standpoint, the integration of email services within Flutter apps involves a combination of client-side and server-side operations. While Flutter provides the frontend interface, the backend, possibly powered by PHP, handles the actual email sending process. This separation of concerns not only makes the application more scalable but also enhances security by keeping sensitive information on the server side. Furthermore, it allows for more complex email functionalities to be implemented, such as automated emails triggered by specific user actions or scheduled newsletters. By leveraging these capabilities, developers can create more dynamic, responsive, and engaging applications that stand out in a crowded digital landscape.

Streamlining Email Capabilities in Flutter Apps

Implementing email functionality within Flutter applications offers a significant advantage, providing a direct and efficient communication channel between the app and its users. This feature can elevate the overall user experience, offering immediate access to support, information, and services directly through email. The integration facilitates various functionalities such as account verification, password resets, notifications, and promotional communications, which are essential components of modern mobile applications. It not only enhances user engagement but also supports a robust framework for personalization and targeted communication strategies.
The technical integration of email services in Flutter involves leveraging existing packages and server-side technologies like PHP for backend processing. This approach ensures a secure and scalable system for handling email operations, including sending and receiving emails, managing templates, and automating communication flows based on user actions or preferences. Moreover, the ability to incorporate advanced features, such as attachments, HTML content, and custom headers, allows developers to create a comprehensive email solution that can adapt to various business needs, making Flutter an even more versatile platform for app development.

FAQs on Email Integration in Flutter

Final Thoughts on Flutter's Email Integration Capabilities

Email integration within Flutter applications represents a pivotal enhancement in how developers can interact with their user base. By facilitating direct email communications through the app, developers unlock a myriad of functionalities that significantly contribute to the user experience. Whether it's for verification, support, or marketing purposes, the ability to send and manage emails directly can drive engagement, improve customer support, and boost the overall utility of the application. Moreover, the combination of Flutter's frontend flexibility and PHP's robust server-side processing offers a balanced approach to implementing these features securely and efficiently. As mobile applications continue to evolve, integrating such comprehensive communication tools will be crucial for developers looking to create more interactive, user-friendly experiences. This capability not only demonstrates the versatility of Flutter as a development platform but also highlights the importance of effective communication channels in the digital age.

2024.05.14 18:07 cliff7217 Have you been able to make new friends as an adult?

It seems that most of my social life is my family, mostly my parents. Between Covid, finding a job closer to home, and parents' retirement, along with my own social life being minimal for years, it seems that my parents are pretty much my social life as they live nearby.
Sometimes I think about packing up and moving to a larger city but that's a big hassle and am otherwise happy where I am.
I've had friends in the past but have kinda drifted apart (or else they got married or moved). Seems a lot more difficult to make new friends post-35 as opposed to early 20s or before.
I know the standard advice is to join clubs, groups, etc. Have any of you found that it worked for you and was a worthwhile experience?

2024.05.14 18:01 ipurpleyou Chances / school list (low stats) ??

I know this subreddit gets oversaturated with these posts but I was really hoping to get some honest feedback on what I should do for this cycle :( I just got my MCAT retake score back and unfortunately it’s not as good as I was hoping it would be, but I still plan on applying this cycle to both DO and MD schools.
For context: I'm an ORM; I majored in biomedical sciences & minored in psychology, graduated in 2022 with a 3.35 cGPA and a 3.2 sGPA with a slight upward trend. Latest MCAT score is a 507 (125/128/126/128) which is not as high as I was hoping to get but đŸ€·đŸŸâ€â™€ïž
I feel like I have a pretty strong theme of communication/language, interpersonal relationships, & community involvement in my app. I'm also very confident in my writing skills, so I'm not too worried about writing a good personal statement. If it helps, one of my LOR writers is a prof whose class I ended up having to retake since I got a much lower grade the first time.
I guess my 3 main questions are: 1) Should I retake the MCAT for a 3rd time? 2) Is it worth trying to do a postbacc or SMP to improve my gpa before applying? 3) What MD schools would be good fits for my gpa/mcat range? For context, here are my stats:
Research experience
Clinical experience
Other experiences
Shadowing
-16 hours hematology/oncology (DO)
-16 hours primary care (DO)
School List [so far]
I used admit.org to start building a school list and out of what they gave me, I’m for sure applying to these schools (and my in-state MD schools):
-Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine
-NYIT-COM
-LECOM
-Touro COM
-PCOM

2024.05.14 17:57 Chiarin My Eurovision Journey - 2024 Semi-final 2

I had intended to post this on Friday, but then Joostgate happened, so I decided to wait until all the emotions had died down a bit. For those who missed it (and/or who don't know about the rest of my Journey), here is my post on the first semi. Also, I have restarted my whole Eurovision journey for the second time and am posting the results on my personal blog. If anyone is interested please DM me. I'm not going to post a link here, because I have no desire to openly doxx myself.
Malta I’m sorry to say it, but there were too many girl-bops with overly intricate choreography this year. I don’t dislike this one at all, but qualifying after coming first in a strong semi-final with this was always going to be a tricky thing to pull off.
Albania as ballads go this one has some things making it a little more interesting for me, like that beat dropping after the first verse, but overall it’s still a ballad, so it’s on my middling list at best.
Greece I’ve watched this several times now, and I still haven’t figured out whether I like it or not. She had the worst outfit of the night for me, and I’m too old and out of the social media loop to appreciate that start. That said, I like that Greece has gone for something a little more ethno-boppy this year, and much admiration to Marina for performing like she did while ill.
Switzerland Wow, this is something else. I thought Switzerland had sent their best with Gjon’s Tears a few years back, but here’s Nemo with vocal talent that’s at least as good. In addition to that they manage to do all that while moving around on that tilted platform, making it even more impressive. Lastly, the song is actually pretty damn catchy, so overall I think they absolutely deserved their win, even if I personally favoured Croatia.
Czechia This sounds very much like a nineties indie song, which is not at all a bad thing. Had this been in the first semi it might have qualified, but I think, like Malta, it suffered from being fairly early on in a strong semi.
France Slimane can sing, but this isn’t really my cup of tea. What I do like is that he's kept things simple, because I’m really not a fan of all the flashy staging and over-choreographed dance routines. This is definitely the kind of song where you should just let his voice do the work. I’m glad it ended high, because it’s a good song, even if it’s not for me.
Austria Look, I have absolutely no experience with raves, but this would definitely get me dancing. I don’t know why we now have the second silver bathing suit (does everyone get the same costume designer every year? There always seems to be a theme), but I like the song, even if she’s not the best singer of the night.
Denmark I’m not sure how to describe this? A club anthem-ballad? It’s not bad, but there’s nothing about this that wows me.
Armenia This, this is what wows me. I have a major soft spot for upbeat ethnic music anyway, but Jaklin’s stage presence is through the roof. Couple that with a kick-ass voice and the sheer enthusiastic exuberance she brings, and this might actually be my second favourite song this year. I ended up dividing my votes between this and Croatia.
Latvia With apologies to all you ballad lovers, this makes me fall asleep. Plus I don’t get the blue plastic breastplate either. This was my most shock qualifier of the night, because I find it dull as fuck.
Spain This looks and sounds like a bunch of people trying to relive their 80s youth, and I mean that in the nicest way possible. It’s not amazing, but I do enjoy listening to it.
San Marino My first thought on seeing and hearing this was ‘this is what Ireland might have been if Bambie had held back’. It makes it more listenable to me, but I still can’t really say that I like it. I’m also not a fan of the aggressively pink and black goth look, but I’m the first to admit that I have an unreasonable hatred of the colour pink. Not my thing, sorry.
Georgia Yet another country breaking their NQ streak, woo! Aside from that I’m afraid that this goes onto my ‘okay but no wow’ pile.
Belgium This is terribly underwhelming
Fifty microphones and I still can barely hear him. Plus, power ballad, so not for me.
Estonia For some reason the fact that half of this sounds terribly off-key adds to the charm (and I’ll admit that they sounded much better in the final). I like their silly little dance, and overall I was amused. Definitely not the best song of the night, but it stood out from the rest for all the right reasons.
Italy If I had to describe this in three words, I’d say ‘SloMo in Italian’. This is a good thing, I should say, because I really liked SloMo. Definitely like this one. Also, kudos for having dancers of different body-sizes.
Israel I’m not going to touch on the politics here, but to me this is nothing more than another dull ballad.
Norway I’m as baffled as many others here as to why this ended last in the final, other than that this is Eurovision, and weird things happen. I’m generally not much of a rock fan, but I think this one could grow on me. Don’t be discouraged, Norway, there are plenty of people who loved this!
Netherlands Words cannot express how fucking proud I am of my country for sending this to Eurovision. I have not loved a Dutch entry this much since 2014, and I’m absolutely heartbroken that it got disqualified. This is simply the most Eurovision song you could possibly imagine, and I hope that we get proper (dis)closure soon on what actually happened. I’m personally inclined to believe the statement from Avrotros, because as many others have pointed out, it’s their reputation on the line as well if they back their artist, and in that case a DQ was absolutely disproportionate. This is without a doubt my favourite song of 2024, and as a Dutchie living in the UK I’d have voted the fuck out of it.
That's it for this year, back to (mostly) lurking for me...

2024.05.14 17:52 KanimalZ High School Career Project!

Yellow y’all, I am a Junior in High School currently in a program my public school has where they send us to another school to take a class. I am taking the Veterinary Science Class and we have been working on a project for a bit now. It is a career project were we research a career we are interested in. There are 2 parts to the project. The first part is the research portion. We research what education we need and were we can go to get it to reach our career goal as well as information about the career relating to what it requires, does it involve travel, how laborious is it, what is needed for it, what are the patient relationships like, what is the social aspect like, the requirements for the career, etc. This is the easier portion for me, but the harder portion I have found is the second part. For the second portion is a grade by itself and contributes to the first parts grade. (Both summative grades) What is required for this second portion is we must find someone who works in the field and contact them about interviewing them on their experiences in the field. (What it has been like for them, what I should know about it, and any tips, tricks, or forewarnings I should know) I had ended up finding a farrier in the area that seemed nice and who is exspeinced and licensed. I had emailed them emailed them explaining who I am, the project I was doing this for, and where I go to school with the class the project was for. I covered everything my teacher had told everyone in the class to do. She had given us a template to use and base our emails off of and I did while changing it up a little bit to be friendly, but keeping the main necessary content in it. I singed off at the bottom of the email with my name again, my email that was used to send this email, and my phone number if she would prefer to use that instead. After about 2 - 3 weeks with no response I sent a follow up email that my teacher also gave us a template for. The email templates we had were made in class as a class. It was part of the creative/business aspect in the project. After about 10 days with no response I was ready to tell my teacher about the situation and ask what to do when I finally got my first and, spoiler alert, only response. She explained that she was traveling and didn’t check her email in that amount of time. She said that she was now trying to ketchup on her email now. In her email to me she said and I quote “Are you interested in learning about traditional horse shoeing? I am a natural hoofcare provider with my focus being barefoot trims. I only have a handful of horses in composite type shoes that I strictly glue on. I do not use nails or work with metal shoes so I am not sure I’d be the best fit if you are planning to attend a horseshoeing school. I can recommend other traditional farriers locally to shadow if that is the direction you may want to pursue. However, if you are interested in a natural barefoot approach then I am happy to chat with you and have you join for shadowing.” End quote. I showed my teacher the email the next day looking for advice as to how I should respond. My teacher said to continue to try and make plans for an interview and potential job shadow that she seemed interested in taking on. My teacher also told me to try and get the other recommendations as well. I then replied to her email saying how I would be happy to learn from her and job shadow with her or at the very least do an interview with her. I also then said how my teacher suggested I ask if I could have the other farrier recommendations. After that I mentioned again how much it would mean to me if she gave me the chance and for her to have a wonderful night. That’s was sent march 17th. Still no reply. After a bit of waiting for a response I tried calling her because in her email she left her number. It went to voicemail so I left a voicemail message saying who I am, my number, project information from my first email, and that I am still interested in the interview and at least a job shadow. I haven’t received a return call or any missed calls. In her voicemail she said if she isn’t able to get back to you within a few days to message her through text, so I did. I was then left on read for about a week until I asked my teacher what to do. She suggested I ask if I can at least interview her over the phone or have her just send me a message of answer to my questions. So that is what I asked her sending the same message through both text and email. I also provided her with example questions that I would be asking in the message. I have been since left on read with no reply. I am now turning to searching for someone new on here to help me. I just need someone to answer a few questions on their experience being a farrier. It would mean so much to me if someone could help me here. I understand everyone here has their own lives and must be busy with such, but this assignment is due may 22nd and today is may 14. I only have 8 days left for this second portion and I hope y’all understand. Sorry this came out to be so long. Please, have a wonderful rest of your day and my email is katelynnzannoni99@gmail.com if anyone can help. Thank you.

2024.05.14 17:35 Limejhit 10 NON-OBVIOUS marketing psychology principles used by the biggest companies in the world to make billions of dollars every year

Let's start by stating:
"People don't buy products. They buy emotions"
"95% of our purchasing decisions are emotional" -Harvard Business School
The real WHY of WHY PEOPLE BUY is often hidden deep in psychology in the unconscious parts of our brains.
Marketing tools are just the tools to influence the human psyche in one way or another, with psychology in its core.
I play with behavioral science (psychology in marketing) on a daily basis, so I thought I would share 10 cognitive biases (mental shortcuts) here, so you can implement them in your business today to make a few extra bucks:

1. Risk Compensation Theory

People adjust their behavior based on perceived risk.
The less “risky” you make doing business with you, the higher your conversions.
🧠 Make it less risky

2. Labour Illusion

People value things more when they see the work behind them.
"Effort is the universal currency of respect"
🧠 BUILD IN PUBLIC
Constantly showcasing your startup journey, its ups & downs, and the new features you added to your products or services creates the perception there's a lot of work put into your business.
Long waiting periods for service are unavoidable?
Show your process. Educate your client on the craft performed during that period.
Do you use any unusual material in your product? New, creative production process?
Educate with a few extra words

3. Life Event Effect

People are more likely to change their habits during a major life event
In fact, those who have undergone a major life event are 3 times more likely to switch brands
🧠How to use it?
Identify the life event most relevant to your category.
Then use ads. Facebook lets you target people when they move to a new house, end a relationship, start a new job, or start university.
Major life events shake up purchasing behavior.

4. Storytelling Effect

People prefer and better remember stories than facts alone
Watching, listening, hearing, or reading a story activates the same regions of the brain as those engaged when actually performing these actions in real life.
🧠 Don't show your product. Tell a story
"The most powerful person is the storyteller." - Steve Jobs
Research - Rob Walker story:

5. Pratfall Effect

A simple blunder or mistake of a person can improve the attractiveness or likability of that person
The same goes for a brand.
But here's the catch...
Your brand needs to be well-perceived in the first place.
Admitting to your flaws, when your brand is perceived as not reliable, only makes things worse.
🧠Be vulnerable
‱ Embrace your imperfections
VW Beetle campaign in the 1950s and 60s
At that time American cars were supposed to be big, and stylish, not small and ugly. Yet the VW Beetle became a massive hit from its brilliant advertising campaigns.
The campaign addressed everything typical American consumers didn’t like about the beetle.
With headlines like:

6. Foot-In-The-Door Technique

People are more likely to agree to a large request by agreeing to a small one first
Upsell whenever you can, but in a friendly, not pushy manner
🧠The easiest upsells

7. Inaction Inertia Effect

When missing an offer once you are likely to miss an offer twice
When people see that you're giving big discounts frivolously every month or week, they tend to ignore them after a while.
The perceived value of your product lowers with each discount
🧠Strategize your discounts
Short-term gains are cool, but have you ever implemented a long-term pricing strategy?
‱ Every person is different.
Create an email sequence that will split your contacts into specific groups.
Then customize the discounts for each group

8. Stepping Stones

Any task you want your customers to do, needs to be broken down into smaller, attainable steps, otherwise, a person will get discouraged
🧠Viral refferal program
When creating a referral program the most important reward is the first one.
The first reward has to be both achievable and attractive to motivate people to participate.
Harry's referral program collected 100k emails within a week, using this prize scheme:

9. Decoy Effect

People change their preference between two options when presented with a third option (the decoy) that is “asymmetrically dominated”
🧠 3-tiered pricing pricing explained
‱ 1 price = 2 choices: to buy or not
‱ 2 prices = 3 choices: buy the cheaper one, the more expensive one, or not buy
‱ By adding the third price, a much more expensive one, now the second price (the previous expensive one) looks like a bargain

10. Default Effect

People tend to accept what we are given and stick with what we have
When a company or brand makes a particular option the default or standard option, it is more likely that people will choose that option over other options that are presented.
When we are not sure what to do and lack expertise in the area we consider the default as a form of advice and we stick to that.
🧠Make the usual no-brainer offer the default option
A large national railroad in Europe increased its annual revenue by an estimated $40 million by changing its website to automatically include seat reservations unless customers explicitly opted out.
Prior to the change, only 9% of tickets sold included reservations, but after the change, 47% of tickets sold included reservations.

2024.05.14 17:35 Conscious-Company248 My daughter getting weird voicemail and wants to walk alone outside

Hi Reddit, My daughter is a teen. She has a lot of mental health challenges, including social anxiety and possibly autism. She is shy to the extreme and very private which makes her even more vulnerable. Her mental health issues started when she started secondary school. We try to involve mental health specialists, but she said she does not want to talk to anyone. It is a challenge to have any conversation with her. Further she got an interest in going out - alone. I have tried to explain that going out alone can be dangerous and that we need to have a conversation about it how to make sure it is safe and ideally we want her to go out with her friends. Recently we caught her using devices at past sleep time and when asked who she is talking to she said her friend from school, but given she was pretending she was not even able to admit she was using the device, it is dubious. As such we started monitoring her device usage and also told her that we nee to know who she is talking to just to make sure she is safe. I have seen a missed call from a UK number 01200409602 which left a weird voicemail:
as a member of the solitaries, the mystery of this place has really peaked my curiosity, if you're available how about we check it out together? I also found above message phone spam report, but I am unable to trace the origin.
Googling this number leads to several pages including some plumbing company and several plumbers: https://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/ShowEngineers?se=True&page=1&ep=1xPOGK1AdTeDy4hfLti5P%252bFZAbHM6DDkZpkNCgDMoAArv3LpyuxW%252feH9AjbuVb95VJG4bJgZY6wYcrH5xcVSpQ%253d%253d&rno=583172&backurl=%252fFindBusinessResults%253fep%253d1xPOGK1AdTeDy4hfLti5P%2525252bFZAbHM6DDkZpkNCgDMoAArv3LpyuxW%2525252feH9AjbuVb95Nv4AQyN90SoGDT4YxvPqHA%2525253d%2525253d%2526Page%253d1&searchurl=%252FFindBusinessResults%253Fep%253D1xPOGK1AdTeDy4hfLti5P%2525252bFZAbHM6DDkZpkNCgDMoAArv3LpyuxW%2525252feH9AjbuVb95Nv4AQyN90SoGDT4YxvPqHA%2525253d%2525253d%2526Page%253D1&hideadd=False&tel=07804614936
And this page which I am not sure what is about, but has the same number and a name: 01200409602 Mohamed Wiks.
https://www-juntadeandalucia-es.translate.goog/boja/2005/15/86?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp
I am concerned that my daughters desire of going out alone could be in relation to above message. Can someone advise what is this "solitaries" club and if the above name has any relevance? I just want to make sure she is safe.

2024.05.14 17:33 youngleaves Run clubs for slow people?

I've tried a few of the local social ("pace inclusive") run clubs. On more than one occasion I've found myself running alone at the back, holding up the rest of the group, which is the opposite of fun. The thing is, I don't think I'm that slow! I routinely finish in the top half of the field at local road races and was age-graded at 51% at my last parkrun, so I would describe myself as decidedly average. Personally, the whole point of joining a running club is to meet people who share my hobby and socialize, which for me requires running at 6:30-7 min/km.
Are there any running groups out there for someone like me? Bonus points if they're easy to transit or cycle to from central Vancouver (Fairview), and if they meet on weekday evenings or weekend mornings.

2024.05.14 17:33 DaveHervey Beverage market Cannabis legalization: soon grass instead of hops? May 8, 2024 in market report

Cannabis has now been – at least partially – legal in Germany for a good five weeks. Will there soon be THC drinks in this country? Will Germans then drink less alcohol? And where can the substances actually be consumed? While the answers to this will probably take a while to come, many, including those in the beverage industry, are looking with excitement to Canada, where marijuana has been legal since 2018.
The approval there quickly led to the introduction of a wealth of new mixed drinks. The beverage manufacturer Truss Beverages from the province of Ontario brought non-alcoholic drinks enriched with THC and CBD in a wide variety of, mostly fruity, flavors and different, precisely defined potencies onto the market under the brand names XMG, Little Victory, Mollo and Bedfellows. Truss is a joint venture between brewing company Molson Coors and cannabis company Hexo.
THC drinks soon in Germany too? It's no wonder that, given the opportunities offered by a completely new category, companies in this country are already positioning themselves to be among the pioneers if cannabis extracts are also approved as beverage additives here. For example, the Hamburg company “Good Drinks” is currently discussing whether THC in its drinks could be a useful brand addition, as co-owner Frank Maßen reports.
Good Drinks is currently on the market with vodka and energy drinks, for example. Well-known Hamburg restaurateurs such as Axel Strehlitz and John Schierhorn, both of whom have deep roots in the local club scene, are involved in the start-up. Maßen sees THC as a logical progression for a brand that has partying in its DNA, but “the idea of introducing a THC variant raises a lot of questions, especially in terms of brand image and acceptance,” said Maßen.
Discussions are currently underway internally about how to handle this potential expansion without damaging the essence of the brand, which is strongly linked to the club culture. There are intensive discussions with the licensors of the Hamburg Club Combine, which launched the brand together with Good Drinks to support the local club scene as a social business ( we reported ).
Some THC drinks already on the market in Canada Some THC drinks already on the market in Canada (Product photos: Truss Beverages) Breweries would certainly also be potential manufacturers. But the German Brewers Association considers it unlikely that many breweries could jump on the cannabis bandwagon. “Germany is and remains the country of beer drinkers. With 1,500 breweries and almost 8,000 brands, we have a beer variety that is unique in the world,” says Managing Director Holger Eichele. Beer is still the national drink, although consumption has been declining for years, as in many other European countries.
“Edibles” are still banned under EU law Apart from that, an introduction would not yet be legally possible, because drinks with THC or CBD fall under “edibles” in the EU; This refers to foods and drinks that contain cannabis. They are therefore affected by the Novel Food Regulation, explains the managing director of the Bavarian Cannabis Association, Wenzel Cerveny. This means that they can only be placed on the market once they have been tested as safe by the EU.
“This is something that a small manufacturer cannot do - this test would have to be initiated by a large company,” says Cerveny. He himself is currently working with the small brewery “Unertl” from Haag in Upper Bavaria on an alcohol-free beer with hemp extract. However, without THC or CBD, but with hemp as a special taste.
To provide a more detailed explanation, the EU states that there has been no evidence of any significant consumption of the individual substance CBD (cannabidiol) before May 15, 1997. It is therefore assessed as novel in the European Commission's Novel Food Catalog under the entry “Cannabinoids” and therefore requires its own approval. As long as this does not exist, such products are not marketable. The same applies to products containing THC.
Alcohol consumption in Canada fell after legalization It's not just new products that could affect the German beverage industry if they are allowed in the future. Using Canada as an example, it is clear to see that cannabis consumption has a direct influence on consumers' drinking behavior. A joint study by the University of Manitoba, Memorial University and the University of Toronto has shown that Canadians are drinking significantly less alcohol since they were legally allowed to consume cannabis.
For example, the study published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence observed an average monthly decline in beer consumption of 136 hectoliters per 100,000 people after legalization. In this context, the authors speak of a “substitution effect”, in which consumers choose cannabis instead of beer as their intoxicant of choice.
Mixing with alcohol is not advisable Both together are considered by “connoisseurs” to be not very digestible. Even Truss Beverages advises against consuming its THC drinks mixed with alcohol on its website, citing recommendations from the Canadian Health Authority. Again and again, the product description in connection with the dosage is about ensuring a “controlled and predictable consumption experience”.
Clear warnings label drinks containing THC in Canada. Clear warnings label drinks containing THC in Canada. (Photo: Truss Beverages) A look at the 2022/23 financial year shows how strong cannabis legalization can have on the alcohol industry. Accordingly, Canada received more excise tax revenue from cannabis ($660 million) than from wine ($205 million) and beer ($450 million) combined.
It is still completely unclear whether the industry will have to adapt to similar shifts in this country. The German Brewers Association is rather relaxed: It is still far too early to speculate about possible effects, emphasizes DBB boss Eichele. “There are studies from abroad where markets have been examined in more detail. However, these studies cannot be transferred one-to-one to Germany; the starting points are far too different. We don’t expect any visible effects in this country.”
Where smoking is allowed, you can also smoke weed The question of how to deal with marijuana users in the catering industry is already very current; It is being hotly debated all over the country. While the use of the drug indoors is usually prohibited, there is scope for freedom in outdoor areas and, for example, beer gardens.
The German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) says that initial feedback from the industry shows a tendency not to allow the consumption of marijuana. The legal situation varies from federal state to federal state, as Dehoga managing director and legal expert JĂŒrgen Benad knows: “Where smoking is still permitted according to the legal regulations of the federal states, cannabis consumption is also generally permitted.”
But it is also clear: “Every restaurateur is allowed to prohibit guests from consuming cannabis – even in smoking bars – based on their house rules,” says Benad. This also applies to outdoor catering. Cannabis may not be consumed “in the immediate presence” of minors. What this specifically means in the catering industry will not be easy to define in individual cases.
Zero tolerance or laissez-faire? While the beer gardens in Munich, for example, will remain consumption-free until further notice due to Bavaria's zero-tolerance policy, people in Berlin are more open-minded. “Since the cannabis law was approved, the consumption of cannabis in the catering industry has been considered synonymous with the consumption of cigarettes and other tobacco products,” says Tony Ettelt-Brundiers, managing director of “Zenner”, a cultural and gastronomic ensemble consisting of a vineyard, beer garden and organic ice cream parlor , concert hall, club space and event location in the capital.
“We are not questioning this law,” said Ettelt-Brundiers. “Regardless of what our guests smoke in the Zenner’s outdoor areas, we ask everyone to be considerate, especially if other guests could feel disturbed by someone else’s smoke, regardless of its origin.” This principle of mutuality Consideration has worked surprisingly well in Zenner for more than 200 years, which the aforementioned amendment to the law should not change, according to the managing director.
How much cannabis will ultimately change the beverage industry and social life surrounding beverages is still entirely unknown.
