My macbook gets crazy hot sometimes when I close the lid — supposedly it should sleep but I can hear the fans going
I have MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) with Processor: 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 with macOS Monterey
The problem is if I don't keep it plugged, the battery will usually drain overnight and either way it doesn't seem healthy for the laptop to be working all the time.
Here's the log from last night, which is interesting: I only opened it at 10:12am or so but it seems that it woke up on its own around 9 and that's what probably led to some intense overheating
Do you have any idea what's happening and how I could fix this?

2024.05.16 10:01 SCVJester Remap or new car?

I've owned a 2017 Lexus GS300H with around 80,000 miles for the past 2 years. It has been a wonderful car which I've thoroughly enjoyed but I always found the power lacking.
During my research to remap the car, I came across a 2015 Lexus GS450H, with around 65,000 miles to the tune of £18k. It also has ivory coloured seats which I'm not too keen on.
For me it has the right amount of power with a V6 and front ventilated seats and it has given me a deep itch.
However, paying £18k for a nearly 10 year old car seems silly - what do you think? Would it be sensible to remap instead? I'm concerned about the risk of engine damage and I would be stuck with 4 cylinders! I'm planning to test drive the car this weekend. My intention would be to own this newer car for the next 10 years, replacing it with a second or third generation EVs.

To no avail. MS official documentation says only AD environments are supported, but has anyone found any workarounds? I hate bing and I also want to have to do as little as possible manual labor when deploying new images on my home systems.

This is probably just your usual, my PC is not working as it should, problem, but im going to ask it nevertheless. ;) Subject is my self-built PC:

Intel Core i9-9900k 3.60Hz
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
2x 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro
MPG Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon (MS-7B17)
The whole system is running on a Samsung SSD 990 Pro Heatsink 4TB
Power Supply: Corsair TX750M

The system was running smoothly for about two months, before i startet noticing a drop in performance. It also happeded to crash once in a while, giving me a bluescreen. This happened about a week ago. Now, the performance is even worse. Every other day, the PC crashes out of the blue, without any warning or bluescreen after. Also the system seems to be running slowly, having issues with running a game on one screen and playing a video on youtube on the other. (ex. When playing a video on YT, the taskmanager shows the browser using 10-20%).
What can i do/update to, 1 - Find out if the problem is hardware or software related, and 2 - Fix it

There is a general consensus on main points of the uber-killer one shot kill blood golemancer (Army of the Dead, Shadowblight passive, Blood Golem), but not so much on a general build. There are a lot of variations out there by different content creators, I want to kind of discuss the pros and cons and gather my thoughts on how to shape a minion necro that can still kill uber bosses relatively quickly without hampering the ability to speedfarm gear or push pit levels.
I'm not going to get in to the nitty gritty details about exact paragon placement and such, but more a high level overview of different takes on the Minionmancer.

Considerations

Attack Speed
According to the Mega Minion Guide, there are two buckets that can individually reach separate caps of 100%.

The first bucket
- Cult Leader board will almost always provide 10%, as it's on the way to a key legendary node
- In contrast, the 5% on the Flesh Eater board is kind of out of the way and is likely not worth the 8-ish points required to unlock
- The 25% on Hulking Monstrosity board can replace a gear roll, but that ONLY applies to Golem attack speed so is only relevant if you're focused on stacking golem damage over mage damage. The golem attack speed nodes are also pretty far away from the glyph slot and legendary node.
- The rest (65 or 90%) must come from gear. Kalan's Edict key passive can effectively replace 2 gear rolls allowing us to focus masterworking stats on crit and int instead.
The Second Bucket
- There is no reasonable way to reach 100% here
- Rapid and Rathma's Chosen aspects do not apply as minions don't have "basic attacks" and we're not casting overpowered blood skills
- Enhanced Reap can give 30%, though won't help with single target fights
- For Accelerating aspect Blight is the only Core skill we may be casting, but we won't be spamming it so it's probably not worth using it over other aspects for 10%
- Frenzied Dead aspect is going to be an auto-include as it's an extra 45% with almost no restriction

Cooldown Acceleration
We have a few reliable ways of cheating out lower cooldowns

Blood Orbs
- Requires sacrificing a ring slot for the Fastblood Aspect and a defensive slot for the Embalmer Aspect
- Not very many reliable ways to get Blood Orbs, need to run Blighted Corpse Tendrils and/or Hemorrhage basic skill alongside Embalmer
Reaper Upgrade 1
- More consistent on bosses and doesn't require two aspects.
- We won't be able to rely on the other Skeletal Warrior paths to taunt or generate corpses
Abhorrent Decrepify
- We don't really want to focus our stats on lucky hit, this can supplement but shouldn't be relied on

Corpse Generation
When farming, corpses will be plentiful from random trash. When fighting bosses where are our corpses going to come from?

Sever and Decompose basic skills both make corpses. Sever is slower (1 per 4s), but Decomposition (1 per 1s) requires channeling.
Hulking Aspect spawns corpses on Golem attacks, good pick for a utility aspect
Bone Golem Upgrade 1 makes 5 corpses on command, but this is a bit painful as many of the various golem upgrades have really good effects
Army of the Dead is a long cooldown, but generates tons of corpses. Corpses will have to come from trash mobs between bosses. Taking this means losing Bonestorm.
Reaper Upgrade 2 has pretty nice corpse generation, but would lose out on the lowered cooldowns from upgrade 1

Vulnerable Application

Decompose basic skill is a reliable way to make the target vulnerable though channeled skills are a pain to use. Would lose out on Sever's attack speed boost in non-boss situations.
Bone Golem Upgrade 2 applies vulnerable and does pretty decent damage to boot
Plagued Corpse Tendrils isn't a bad utility option on top of grouping mobs together, but it does have a lengthy cooldown and requires a corpse
Cold Mage Upgrade 2 is essentially permanent vulnerable, but losing the shadow damage limits our other options severely.
Bone Prison This is probably only reasonable for the uber-killer one shot variant. Need to pair with Plunging Darkness Aspect

Ultimate Skill

Army of the Dead
- Very spiky gameplay going through peaks and valleys of damage.
- This skill wants to stay unused until you reach a difficult encounter (especially a single target fight). Using this will then end that fight in moments
- More damage than Bonestorm
Bonestorm
- Very reliable, best to use as often as possible
- More triggers for Shadowblight key passive when paired with Ultimate Shadow Aspect
- Much more defensive option compared to AotD (natural 15% DR and Shielding Storm Aspect can give barrier generation)

Key Passive

Kalan's Edict gives a good chunk of Attack Speed, but is only equivalent to 1-2 gear slots worth after masterworking
Shadowblight does amazing damage paired with Blighted Aspect, but you need enough shadow damage sources to keep it rolling

Support Skills
We have 2 skill slots left after Skeleton, Golem, Generator, and Ultimate. Maybe 3 if we decide to run without a generator.

Blight (or Bone Prison+Plunging Darkness Aspect) This is almost an auto-include. It gives extra minion damage, plus is an excellent source of shadow damage ticks for Shadowblight.
Decrepify is a pure survivability option. Very good at reducing incoming damage and is especially useful for pit pushing.
Corpse Tendrils groups up mobs and can apply vulnerable or generate blood orbs, but this has a cooldown and will consume cooldown acceleration effects making your ultimate take longer to come up.
(Blighted) Corpse Explosion is purely for more Shadowblight triggers

Book of the Dead

Warriors
- Both Reaper options are good. Taunting defenders are great for thorns builds. Skirmishers are bad.
Mages
- Shadowblight is such a crucial part of the build that going anything other than one of the two shadow variants seems like the wrong choice. Upgrade 1 is great for Golem focused builds, Upgrade 2 is (slightly) better for mage focused builds. Cold Mages with Upgrade 2 is viable if not running Shadowblight
Golem (needs more verification on different golem attack speeds)
- Bone Golem attacks quickly and does surprisingly good damage on top of taunting. Upgrade 2 seems to be the better option but an argument could be made for Upgrade 1 for builds lacking corpse generation and for fueling the Corpse-Eater legendary paragon node
- Blood Golem Upgrade 1 is a massive amount of DR, with how rare it is now might be worth it in high pit levels. Upgrade 2 is for silly numbers and stacking pure golem damage to the detriment of minions. He attacks slower than the Bone Golem so the difference is not as large as it may appear.
- Iron Golem Upgrade 1 may provide more damage than the Bone Golem, but loses the Vulnerability or Corpse generation utility.

2h vs 1h
Minions used to just take the weapon damage, so going big 2H scythe was the way to go. Now they also base their attack speed on the weapon speed so the DPS is equalized across all weapon types (verification needed)

2H (Scythe) is great for double dipping damage from the most valuable Aspect (usually Blighted)
1H (Wand) allows for faster minion attacks, which means more triggers for things like Hulking Aspect and Iron Golem Upgrade 1 which trigger base off of attacks NOT lucky hit. Allows for an additional aspect. Also necro offhands come with an implicit Cooldown reduction which is nice to have.

Aspects

Offensive
- Required:
  - Blighted - Shadowblight builds only, good option for the neck or 2H slot for the bonus
  - Frenzied Dead - Massive attack speed boost that does NOT compete with the attack speed cap from gear (verification needed)
  - Reanimation - Huge damage boost, good option for the neck or 2H slot for the bonus
  - Ultimate Shadow - Bonestorm builds only
  - Unyielding Commander's - Army of the Dead builds only
  - Needleflare - Thorns builds only
- Situational:
  - Plunging Darkness - Bone Prison tech choice only
  - Conceited - Bonestorm builds only, also requires Shielding Storm aspect
  - Inner Calm - An OK choice but nothing amazing, better with Decompose basic skill since you're standing still to channel anyway
Defensive
- Required:
  - Hardened Bones - DR is so rare, each point is precious
  - Embalmer - Blood Orb builds only
- Situational:
  - Shielding Storm - Bonestorm builds only
  - Might - Decent pick if you have nothing better
Utility
- Required:
  - Blood Getter's - This is double dips back to your minions!
  - Hulking Aspect - Decent way to get corpses and get your Golem skill off cooldown
  - Occult Dominion - More minions! Put this on the neck if you don't put blighted or reanimation there.
- Situational:
  - Aphotic - An OK source of Shadow damage for Shadowblight if lacking otherwise
Mobility/Resource
- Required:
  - Fastblood - Blood Orb builds only
- Situational:

Uniques?

Ring of the Sacrilegious Soul can be a nice quality of life for farming. It also makes it so you can "cast" corpse tendrils without ever putting it on cooldown, meaning it won't eat your cooldown acceleration effects.
Blood Moon Breeches lets you get some juicy curse effects without taking up a spot on the skill bar, massive extra source of DR as well.
Razorplate mandatory for thorns builds.

Conclusions

With all that said, where does that leave us with regards to a general minionmancer?

Kalan's Edict seems underpowered compared to Shadowblight. Maybe early game before you have attack speed rolls on gear, but after that Shadowblight seems like a clear winner. That also means we should probably avoid variations with cold or bone mages.
Reapers seem like the winner of the melee skeleton options. Upgrade 1 seems especially hard to pass up. Corpse generation can come from elsewhere.
Golems feel very well balanced to me. Any selection seems reasonable, no golem provides an irreplaceable effect or stands head and shoulders above the others.
There are an unusually large number of Utility aspects which we want. This makes me lean away from using Blood Orbs as a method for reducing cooldown as it's really hard to fit in the two required aspects.
2H builds feel better when paired with AotD style of gameplay as they're both focused on spikes of damage. This is might just be a me thing.

As the title says, I (56F) lost my sense of taste close to 10 years ago, I have done everything in my power to find a solution or to get answers but have had no luck and it is starting to really take a toll on me mentally. Here is some of my background: - Graves’ disease and thyroid removed almost 20 years ago and has been well managed since.
-No previous head trauma

I have seen an ENT and had testing done with again nothing to show
I am on top of my primary care and dental care and see my doctor and dentist regularly as well as have annual blood work done which has shown no flags.
I had a brain scan done to test for signs of MS and other neurological issues that was unremarkable
I DO have sense of smell, no issues there
to reiterate, this started way before Covid.

I’d say I have lost about 92% of my sense of taste, I can occasionally distinguish between sweet and salty or if something is spicy I can tell but not really taste it more of a sensation. Thank you in advance for any input anyone had, this has been so upsetting and affects me mentally on a daily basis. My appetite is decreased I feel hopeless.

Been awhile since I've posted anything here, but here it goes...
I currently work for one of the largest SaaS companies in the world and have worked for 2 of the other top 5-10 during my 17yr+ career, so I would say I am somewhat familiar w/ the space.
With that stated, I've been trying to interpret the post by Toy from earlier today and what it could mean for CLOV. It's more of what is the potential TAM/revenue of a SaaS offering from CLOV. My interpretation is that they would potentially sell a per member, per month (or "seat") license to the other providers (think United, Cigna, Humana, Centene, etc) in states where Clover Health doesn't directly compete (esentially any state but NJ, GA, small part of SC, just Philly in PA, and San Antonio metro in texas TX).
With some quick math estimating CLOV current TAM, Jersey has ~9M people, GA ~11M and probably a total of 6-7M TAM across the other partial states. In total, CLOV's TAM is only about 7-8% of the total US population, meaning, they could provide SaaS to 92-93% where they're not offered. That is a "huge opportunity", as Toy mentioned in his statement today.
Currently, CLOV is valued similarly to all the other healthcare/insurance companies where market caps are between 0.3- 1.3x revenue. Specifically here are some in the same sector:
United Healthcare - 1.28x rev and basically the shining star of the sector amongst major players
Humana - has been as high as 0.7x last year but currently at about 0.4x
Cigna is about 0.6x
OSCR is right around 1x
Centene is dog shit at like 0.3x
As mentioned, CLOV is currently around 0.35x rev (basing that off 1.3B forecast) but I do feel it has been artificially held down by influences wanting to keep price under $1 and force an RS. Realistically, it should prob be more like 0.7- 1x (potentially similar to OSCR), especially with their improving financials and CA tech proving it can save companies significant money.
To contrast this, the major SaaS players have market caps that are more in the 7- 15x revenue. Specifically here are some of the large software SaaS vendors:
Salesforce is one of the more well knows with a valuation in the 7-8x range
Oracle 6-7x
SAP 8x
Autodesk is around 10x
Adobe closer to 11x
Microsoft at 14-15x
If CLOV started getting a hybrid Healthcare/SaaS valuation, even if its just on the lower end like 4 or 5x rev, it's valuation based on 2024 forecast ($1.35B) would be in the $5.5-7B range, putting stock price at $11- $14 range.
However, because all the healthcare companies are such crusty dinosaurs, if it somehow became the darling SaaS offering and innovator of the healthcare/insurance market and really helping these much larger companies in the sector cut significant costs via it's CA platform, I could see that easily going to 10x, 15x or maybe even higher, so $14, $28 or $42+ a share. Thoughts?
And again, I am just shooting from the hip here and half asleep typing it, so feel free to pick it apart and tell me where I'm wrong. There are still a number of variables and details that aren't known so the full potential is not yet understood.

I (M18) have a brother (M20) and he is constantly asking me to do basic things for him that he could do himself. He always complains to me that he is hungry, wants to go somewhere, do a chore for him, or ask me randomly for favors. I understand needing help but always asking me to solve his problems has become an annoyance over time to a point where I think he has naturally assumed I would do favors for him. I was too nice to refuse at first from age 10-now but I have recently complained to my parents about how it seems like he cannot do anything himself. I understand if it is an assurance thing, anxiety, or just looking to me for answers because he trusts me, I do not know, and he has not told me.
However, over the years I have seen it as taking advantage of me. Well, I got into an argument with him when he asked me to make him food. I refused and told him to just buy food or make something. He seemed baffled and walked off. A little while later my parents came to my room to ask me about the encounter because he locked himself in his room and seemed angry. He told them that I refused to feed him and that he had not eaten all day. I laughed at his comment and told my parents how useless he is without them lacking the basic ability to cook moderately difficult meals, do the laundry, or even go out to get groceries.
I got angry when my parents started to compare us, he is highly successful academically getting multiple scholarships, having consistently good grades, studying for a job with high pay, having a respectable number of academic achievements. I had high and low grades throughout ms and hs, have not gotten a scholarship, or outwardly aimed for many academic achievements. This hit a nerve in me, and I started to get angry with them. I told them just because he is more successful does not mean that he should lack basic life skills. They argued that he was busy doing all those that he did not have time to learn them and that I should have started learning them because I was not trying to be successful in school.
I stormed out of the house and went out on a long drive to calm down. They have since been shading me and my brother is being treated like a child. They have given me all house chores as well as forcing me to cook for my brother. I feel like I am being traded like some housekeeper that they adopted. AITA?

2024.05.16 07:07 Opaquer Today's daily (16/05/2024) 50 stage guide

Hey everyone, I'm back for yet another daily guide! Sorry I didn't get around to one the last couple of days - I tried on the 14th and oh boy was that hard. I gave up half way through because I ran out of time! Thankfully this one is much better because I still had my sanity by the end!
As we've previously found, reloading the browser makes changes to the rng, so now I have notes when the browser has been reloaded so you can reload it too :). As per usual, sorry about the reloads - it'd be much easier if there weren't any, but I had some issues and instead of being able to restart I had to reload. Also there's at least one place where I've said to quit to menu and continue - I don't think this is the same as a reload, so maybe don't reload and just quit to menu instead?
Also, as we've found out, it looks like different browsers have different RNG. I use firefox when making my guides, but if you use chrome, there may be some small differences here and there. If you do use chrome and have some differences, let me know - I'm trying to get some evidence so I can figure out what the changes are and see if there's a way to nullify them so we can have a single guide for any type of browser :)
One thing is that I've got a test run happening in the background - I've tested this guide up to 16 so far (updated as I go) to make sure I haven't missed any notes, but that's as far as I've gone so far, so from stage 17 onwards there might be some reloads missing. If so, let me know and I can update it, or if I get time to do more testing I'll update this note as I go.
ALSO ALSO: we're still trying to figure out exactly what the relationship with reloading is. For now, if when you need to reload, reload once you've chosen your pokemon for the battle, as, on average, that's when I would reload. I don't know if it'll make a difference, but it can't hurt to try and see what happens :)
As per the others, I'm still learning about all this, so sorry for any mistakes I've made - I probably missed at least a couple of reloads, but hopefully I got the majority of them.
A couple of things to note: There's a DNA splicer on wave 38 rewards. I've never used it before and asked the discord who would be some good options to use it for, and people were saying it probably wasn't worth it. If you want to fuse some things together though, go ahead! I will say that if you do, I got offered a Garchompite on wave 41, so if you want to fuse two pokemon together, make sure to do it with garchomp first. That said, taking the DNA splicer may change your rng so you may not get the garchompite, but I'll leave that as an experiment for you to test :)
Lastly, it seems like there's a bug in the game - I've heard it's best to change the "EXP Party Display" to "Normal" as if it's not on normal, sometimes moves you've learnt will disappear when you exit to the menu.

I think I got all the unique mons for the candies except one (silly brambleghast didn't want to be caught?), but I might have missed some.
With the below steps, if I haven't said to take a move when one is offered, that means to not learn it. For the table, there's two columns relating to moves - one for moves to take and one for moves to replace. For example, if the "Move(s) to take..." column has Headbutt and the corresponding row in the "... by replacing move(s)" column has Wrap, it would mean you need to replace wrap with headbutt at this stage when it's offered - and if during that stage a different move is offered, don't take it if it's not on the list. Also if there's multiple moves to be offered, the moves offered in the table are listed from top to bottom of the order you get them - so if you have something like the below, it means that Crunch will be offered before Headbutt will, which will be before Firethrower (and their associated replacements):

2024.05.16 06:11 pseudopodia_ Thinking about moving back to India after getting an MS from the US. What kind of jobs and salary to expect?

I'm thinking of moving back to India in the next few months. I got my master's in CS from a T50 university in the US recently but the entry level job market here is absolutely cooked and I might not be able to land a full time position anytime soon. I have an undergrad in CS from a local Indian college and have 2 years of work exp at an Indian company working on some mediocre Java and APIs stuff. During my master's I worked on a few other projects where I worked on languages like JS, Python, Java, C and frameworks like React. I have a few distributed systems projects under my belt. I'm also thinking of getting some cloud and data related certifications but haven't decided which ones (would appreciate any advice here). My biggest regret is not specializing in a domain during my master's. I figured out I enjoyed cybersec and embedded more than full stack in my 3rd semester but it was already too late to specialize.
I understand that my qualifications might be very generic to land me any good roles. What kind of roles will I be able to get? Will an MS from an American university help me or harm me in the Indian market? What kind of salary will I get? How difficult will landing a job be? In the US, I've applied to more than a 1000 places. Will it be equally difficult in India?
Edit: When I go to company websites to apply, I see 5 openings in the US and 50 in India. Makes me wonder if I'd be better off back home. But then the number of engineers we have in India is also 10 times more so idk.
Edit2: I don't have a bank loan. My family supported me to pay my tuition (need to pay them back ofc but can take it slow) but supporting my living expenses for another year is out of their budget. I won't be able to work part-time on campus anymore since I've graduated so the living expenses and rent will have to come from my family. I don't know how long I'll be able to hold out. I haven't heard back from any of the 1000+ places I've applied to yet. How long do you guys think I should keep trying for a job here? Moving back to India isn't really something I'm going to be doing out of my own choice but I might be forced to because of the situation and to avoid further sunken costs. I've applied to all sorts of roles till now. SDE, DevOps, Embedded and even testing roles. No callbacks from anywhere. My resume looks fine but I have too little experience for most roles which need 5+ years of exp. What should I do here on?

Hey all! We will be traveling soon, by car, for our first vacation! The trip is about 10 hours straight through. I spoke with my LO’s doc and she mentioned the 2-3 hour rule with car seats and to have some form of entertainment available. I am looking for advice for a decent ride. We are riding with my mom, so one of us will be in the back with baby, but any help you can provide is so welcomed. Time to leave, snacks, toys, what kind of toys, tablet/ no tablet (honestly I’m ok with a no on this one. There’s only so much ms. Rachel I can handle lol), anything! I know it may seem like common sense to some, but I’m a FTM. I look for advice for anything and everything I do with baby lol

2024.05.16 05:17 Cooperman411 Writer Deck Wine Box Build: SBC, Keyboard, and Cooling Questions

I'm transforming a wooden wine box into a writer deck, and I need some input.
I don't love the fittings or the color but I think I can fix that with a little stain and creativity.

The interior is just under 13"/237mm long by 3"/75m wide. The top and bottom are both 1.75"/45mm deep.
Current Plan:

Display: 10.5"x2" LCD framed in wood or 3D printed material, wrapped in green velvet if I'm feeling fancy.
SBC Options:
- Tiny boards could go in the top behind the screen (maybe including battery?). A single hub could go in the bottom with cut-in access to IO, or a hub stored in the bottom but used externally.
  - Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W running Mac OS 9, MS Word '98 - almost impossible to be distracted by the modern internet as it just doesn't work.
  - Orange Pi 2 W per YouTube it runs desktop Debian faster than the Raspberry Pi 4 runs Raspberry Pi OS. Could lead to web distractions but I really want a GUI word processor.
- Pi 4 or 5 or similar could go in the bottom with a GPIO secondary 3" screen.
- Which OS? Which word processor?
Keyboard: Ideally it would stored in bottom. Or some kind of elegant wooden or cloth pouch or attachment. This looks like it would be great but it would leave only about 1/2 inch across the back of the bottom case and weighs almost 2lbs:

The stand \"wings\" fold in thankfully.
Questions:

SBC and OS: What would you recommend? Tiny SBC behind the display, or larger one in the bottom? Looking for a graphical OS ideally.
Keyboard: Any suggestions or ideas? Ideally something that's at least 40-75% and folds or fits in the bottom. Or do I go for a cloth/leathepleathewood case or another way to keep it handy/attached? To maintain the look, I'd love a keyboard that looked kinda steampunk or with wooden keycaps but now I'm likely just dreaming.
Cooling: How best to address cooling if everything's packed in the top?

I'm very open minded. Any suggestions or ideas appreciated!
