Third grade text features

I (17f) know that (17m) likes me, and this story probably sounds really sweet. A few months ago we exchanged numbers and a bunch has happened since. We texted and figured we would go to prom together. Now, we never see each other in school because we have no classes together at all. The time he actually asked for my number I just so happened to stop at my locker. The first time we hung out he said we were going to the movies with his friends. However, we still hung out even though our time did consist of awkward pauses. He said he had a crush on me since the end of junior year but we technically knew each other since 6th grade. We weren’t friends though more so acquaintances.
Originally, I didn’t want to go to prom because well I have no friends. I sat at a lunch table by myself all year and haven’t had friends since middle school. One day, I had a family member say they can help me out with texting because I felt like I was a dry texter. Surprisingly, when I got my phone back they had invited him over kinda forcing us to talk and hang out together. Anyways that went well and we sort of just watched tv (I mainly initiated our conversations).
Fast forward to last week when I finally got a chance to talk and see him in school he said the exact same thing I’ve been saying to myself this whole time “he doesn’t know how to start a conversation”. Now, we are both rather quiet and awkward, however he has more of a social life. He enjoys anime and gaming. I’m more of a superhero nerd and I guess I like gaming too but not really a gamer. I decide to give anime a chance and we watched it the day he came over. At the end of last week prom happened and I enjoyed it. We didn’t speak much but we took pictures and dance for like 2 minutes (they didn’t play any slow songs).
Eventually, we decided to hang out on senior skip day, shockingly he showed up at my house in the morning 8am to spend the day together and said he walked 40 minutes. Furthermore, he didn’t want to skip at first and I was suprised but happy he showed up. Now, here we are we haven't spoken in 3 days and we'll probably see each other again, but what if I want to text him? He clearly likes me by how he smiles every time he sees me and the reassurance he gave me that I felt bad about not dancing more at prom. I know I overthinking but I want this to go well and I know he’s probably thinking the same.

A Victim of Online Fiction was starting to stack up reads, while The One Who Walks Alone had become a nice side-hustle. I decided that my next step would be to follow Alex’s advice for once and start banking chapters.
I cut back my schedule to three chapters a week for A Victim of Online Fiction and two a week for The One Who Walks Alone.
Each morning I poured myself a cup of tea, swallowed a pill and hacked out three chapters before lunch, had a call with Alex, went for a quick run and picked up food from a cafe, then it was back home for revisions and occasionally some plotting.
By 5pm I’d be pooped mentally, but physically bursting at the seams. I’d pop another pill or two then saunter off to whatever party was happening that night before waking up in someone’s shrubbery at sunrise.
For a while writing and enjoying myself were all I craved. I was shitting out chapters faster than I’d ever done before, and building a backlog had taken a lot of pressure off the day to day writing.
And then one morning I woke up in a springy little olive tree to the sound of my good friend Manuel yelling at me. Manuel was really excited about something. He kept saying over and over ‘You’re done Eli! You’re done, dude. You really messed up – big time.’
I rubbed my eyes and pulled a couple of leaves from my ear, ‘Huh?’
Manuel grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the tree. He had a tablet in one hand and was laughing. He pushed the tablet into my face, ‘It’s LazyCultivator... the best writer in the entire damn world. She’s calling you out man.’
I pushed a pill between my lips and swallowed, slowly my vision started to clear. Beneath the latest chapter of the chicken story was a massive rant about my books.
‘Woah.’
‘Woah alright,’ Manuel bounced around me, ‘All that stuff you said about the chicken, how you wanted to take her on, she’s just shutting you down. This is going to kill your readership man!’
I frowned, ‘And why are you so happy about this? I thought you were like, in my corner...’
Manuel slapped me on the back, ‘Course I am man, course I am... but this is LazyCultivator we’re talking about... she’s a genius... Shakespeare reborn... the Wuxia Tolkein... the Virginia Woolfe of transcending tropes.’
‘Alright... whatever.’ I straightened my neck, there was this awful kink in it, ‘So yeah, she’s denouncing my work as a piece of shit, but so what? There’s a lot of times I think it's a piece of shit too.’
‘Ah... but you haven’t been read by 100 million people, have you?’
‘Guess not...’
‘She’s never done this to anyone before. Dude. Your career is over. Back to the dungeons you go.’
My stomach was cramping and all of Manuel’s shouting was starting to give me a headache, ‘You’re kind of being an asshole.’
He shrugged, snatched his tablet back, ‘LazyCultivator... how the hell man...’
I turned away from him and started stumbling back to my place. I could feel the pill bubbling as it mixed with the leftover alcohol in my stomach. I paused to throw up, wiped the froth from my lip then continued home. My throat was as dry as the Sahara but I ignored the ice-cold water in my fridge and powered on my computer and sat there for two hours reading the comments beneath LazyCultivator's new chapter.

The final comment had 20,000 likes and when I clicked on my story I saw my precious five-star rating had dropped to just above zero. My throat was inflamed, but still, I read. People were trashing my novels. Review bombing them off the featured lists I’d slowly been climbing my way up.
Alex called, I ignored him. He called again. I hung up. He called a third time and I answered. Alex was wearing a suit and a professional black tie.
‘Not a good time to call Alex.’
Alex shook his head, ‘No. It's not. The CEO wants to see you.’
‘What?’
‘Richard Balls, the man who founded this company, the guy who can have your stories deleted like this,’ he snapped his fingers, ‘The guy who can fire me like this,’ he snapped his fingers again. There were tears in his eyes. ‘He wants to see you in half an hour.’
I couldn’t speak. My throat was all dried up.
‘Alex... I...’
He gave this pitiful whine, ‘Put on your most professional-looking clothes. Get in the car when it comes. There’s nothing I can do for you.’
The call ended and the silence struck me like a jumbo jet squashing a slug on the runway.
A glass of water hurt to swallow. The only decent looking shirt I had rasped my skin and a pair of black shoes made my feet heat up. I pushed my pill bottle into the pocket of a pair of black jeans then sat outside. I fidgeted, grazing my knuckles against the concrete of the stairs. The pain tasted good. Like ice.
‘Astra,’ I whispered to myself, imagining her face, ‘Astra.’
I thought about all the weeks that had passed. How good the freedom had felt. How empty it felt now. I knew I needed a friend. I knew I had none. Not here anyway.
A neighbour walked past. His name was Min. He wrote sci-fi, I’d carried him up his steps the Thursday before, he wanted to get married to a girl that wrote horror.
‘Hey Min!’
Min turned to me but his feet didn’t stop. He took one look, his eyes glazed over and he walked on. It was a hot day. Maybe he was thirsty or something.
The limousine they sent for me was black, with a fin-like antenna on top and it cruised the streets like a shark looking for prey.
It came to a stop in front of my house. The back door swung open to reveal a pure black void. I wobbled to my feet then climbed in. I couldn’t see a thing outside as we swung around and around. The only things that differentiated it from my first cell were the plush leather seats. Even so, my breath was rushing in and out faster than I liked.
‘Astra.’ I said to myself, I wondered why I hadn’t bothered trying to contact her, I hadn’t even left a comment on her story. I’d seen hundreds of her comments on mine.
The limo jerked to a stop. The door flew open.
It was like I’d been transported to another planet. The quiet, quaint Village had been replaced by a steel and glass plated monstrosity. People in suits flowed in and out of the front door like blood through arteries – or maybe parasites through a host.
I edged myself out of the limo. The door slammed behind me, and the shark-vehicle sped off. Hands closed around both my arms.
‘Good to see you Mr Hill,’ A security guard on my right said.
‘Mr Balls is waiting for you,’ said the guard on my left. Their grip was casual but firm as we walked towards the doorway.
The elevator in that building was bigger than our entire four-dorm. The bathroom was ten times the size of my cottage, and there were slides, pool tables, domes to sleep in. I wasn’t sure whether the topia I’d wandered into was a utopia or a dystopia.
Finally, we reached Richard Balls office – technically it took up the entire top floor, but most of that was taken up by an indoor golf course, spa, and a floor of secretaries, lawyers and accountants.
The guards made me stand outside for ten minutes while they waited for a signal from Balls. When it finally came they pushed me towards the double doors.

I posted before in regards to the situation and based off of comments I am getting a bit worried if we made the right choice. I wanted to make another post to see if we screwed up and if we can fix it.
Short Version-
Child's mother has been neglectful for years, lost custody due to it. Regained custody when dad fell ill, but is still being neglectful. Dad is doing better now and has requested to change custody to sole custody. I am wondering if that was a mistake (as judges often side with the mothers) and if it would have been better to just request to keep it as Joint Custody with the residence being changed to the father. If so, is it even possible to do that now? Final hearing has been set for end of August (we had no other hearings prior to this). Can we mail a request to amend (or however it works) or do we just bring it up during the final hearing? Or is it not advisable at all?
Detailed Version-
Backstory: The mother lost custody of the daughter when she was 5 years old because she left her alone overnight with open alcohol and weed within the child's reach. Father gained temporary full custody during this time. She lived with him, myself and her little (half) sister. Two years passed by without the mother attempting to regain custody when the father suddenly fell ill. This allowed the mother an opportunity to request custody of the child citing that the father could not take care of her in his current situation. The father did not contest as he wanted to give his daughter a chance to be with her mother and give the mother another chance. The judge granted them joint custody of their daughter with the mother being the primary residence and dad having her on holidays. The judge put in the order that the mom cannot leave the child alone and that she must provide transportation for all visitations until father is well enough to drive. The mother lives in AL and father in FL. As a note, their situation has always been long distance.
Current situation: The daughter (now 9) has been with the mother since Jan 2023. The mother has been in contempt of two items on the court order. She has on several occasions been left alone overnight. Unfortunately we learned about most of these incidents after the fact and do not have proof other than the daughters word. We do have one proof of her being left home alone though since we found on her ipad a text that her mother sent stating she would be home later. She also has not been compliant in facilitating visits. The father being unable to drive has been left with the choice of not seeing his daughter at all or trying to find family/friends who would be willing to drive the 12 hour round trip. During Spring Break I had to make the full drive to ensure that we could see her. I was unable to return her however due to a flaring back injury. The mother stated she would get her on that Saturday but later changed her mind stating she had to work the weekend and couldnt get out of it. She said she would get her on Monday evening (the daughter was to go back to school on that Tuesday). We later discovered that instead of working she was on Twitch doing a 48 hour live stream for her gaming page. She then didn't arrive until Monday night turning Tuesday at 12:30am. She turned around and did a 6 hour drive to where the daughter had to go to school without any proper sleep.
We have also discovered during the last two holidays that the daughter is being neglected (to the point where she said she doesn't even want to live with her mom anymore and that she wants to live with us). The daughter told us she leaves her by herself and the mom is always in her room playing video games. She won't take the time to wash her clothes or her hair. She had the same hair style for two months when we saw her at Christmas. We got her hair done and when we saw her at Spring Break, again she had the same braids we gave her 3 months prior. We also discovered that the mom isn't getting her dinner and she has been left to fend for herself. Two video chat examples we saw the daughter getting cheez-its and french toast sticks for dinner. The father texted the mother expressing his concern and that he would like to discuss the issue but the mother shut it down saying it wasn't his business. Also her schooling is suffering because the mom is not doing homework with her or helping her study and instead is in her room playing video games. The daughter has also missed at least 15 days of school unexcused. This information was obtained from the school because the mother does not provide this information. He also had to go all the way to AL to the school to get this information because the school said they couldn't prove his identity over the phone. (not sure if that has to do with mother interference or school policy) She also has not taken her to any doctors or dentist. The last time that happened was when she lived with us before he fell ill. We recognized during spring break that her vision is off and were able to get her examined and found out she needed glasses! We got those ordered and mailed to her.
These are some of the main examples of the concerns that we have with the child being in her mothers custody (although there are many more examples). The father has filed for change of custody and asked for full/sole custody of his daughter. With this request he included details of what I mentioned above as well as the additional examples that were not mentioned here. It was 4 pages of concerns- overkill maybe? Not sure, but we thought it better to be safe than sorry. Unfortunately no funds to hire an attorney to have them confirm for us.
The judge has granted a final hearing on the matter in August. I would like to believe that the evidence above (as well as the other examples included in the request) would be enough to show a judge why the father should be granted custody. Also she would be back with me and her little sister again, so she would have a "mother's support" as well as a sibling. When she lived with us she was so happy and thriving and we never left her alone or neglected her health/hygiene or anything. Her grades were excellent and she never missed school.
But with all of that in mind..I am still concerned that the judge could deny the request for full custody. So I am wondering, would it be possible (and if possible, would it be advisable) to amend the request to stay as "joint custody" but with the father as the primary instead of the mother? Not sure if that can be done before the hearing or if we would mention it during the hearing. Of course the father would prefer full custody rather than joint. But I'm concerned that if we go that route that we would get shot down and we will regret not just requesting it to stay as Joint with change in residence. Not sure if I'm just worrying too much or if we really did screw up.

I am honored to have two great options to chose from but I am having a tough time deciding between these schools. I am hoping someone here can help me out and please feel free to share any knowledge/opinions you have on each school
UCLA
Pros:

• True P/F during pre-clinical and clerkships
• Really cool feature during 'discovery year' that allows you to pursue a dual degree during your third year and you only have to pay the higher of the two tuitions (I am interested in a dual degree so this would save a decent amount of money)
• Loved the campus/ students when I visited
• location ( I have always seen myself living in CA)
• Great programs that fit my interests
• surprised by the affordability and ample housing options (affordable relative to NYC, Boston, Miami etc.)
• 1 year pre-clinical (some have said this could be a con so I'll include in both?)
• prestige - T15 school

Overall, I fell in love with this school and would love to attend. That being said there are cons and some 'red flags' based on recent SDN posts about "UCLA being in crisis" due to its curriculum change, step 1/2 pass rates dropping etc.
Cons

• 1 year pre-clinical (some feel this is too pressured especially if you want to take step 1 prior to clerkships starting second year)
• location: My family/ SO family are all from the east coast so its a big move
• Cost of moving/ relocating far
• Cost: compared to Einstein the tuition here will be ~45K/yr for me (some aid given)

Einstein
Pros

• Free tuition: huge weight off anyone's shoulders
• 18 mo pre-clinical (maybe more manageable than 1 year?)
• True P/F during pre-clinical
• Closer to family (drivable)
• Social justice-minded MD school aligning with my interests
• Students seem very kind and welcoming

Cons

• Housing: Outside of student housing there doesn't seem to be many options at all and student housing would most likely have to be a studio that I'd need to share with my SO
• Safety? (Not sure if this is a valid concern but based on some things I've read from current students there doesn't seem to be much freedom in being able to run/ walk leave the campus)
• Lack of public transportation/ commutability to NYC (my SO will likely be working in lower manhattan so their commute would be rough)
• Probation status? (also unsure if this is a valid concern)
• dual degree would not be an option here
• Tiered clerkships (high pass, honors etc.)

-Both schools have great match lists in areas/specialties I am looking at (slight lean to UCLA maybe). Also, both have really good research opportunities. Ultimately, I know I have to make up my own mind but I am just looking for opinions to aid in this decision, thank you!

I (13F) bit my friend we will call Apple (13F) when at a Girl Scout meeting, we were playing in the school yard, Apple grabbed me from behind and was holding me in a headlock above the ground. I was the smallest in the grade so she often treated me like a doll, I would usually kick her in the shin, but she had someone we will call Orange (13F) hold my feet. I was skilled in fighting, but Apple made me weak... I was screaming for help and for Apple to stop and put me down and no one stopped her. Orange's bff Strawberry (13F) said my lips were purple and my tan colored face was white, Strawberry at least tried to help me. I had no choice, I bit Apple hard. I got free and was safe, not choked.Since no one payed attention to my cries for help, it went around the troop, the troop leaders, the grownups, and my grade and above I bit someone. The boys called me a furry, I was mad as hell! My mom asked me what happened a tears streamed down my face, the grownups only got a text that I bit someone, no explanation. Later in the day, people (privately) told me I did the right thing, later in the week they sided with Apple! WTF!!!Also, I have to say this. Since 4th grade when I transferred to my school Apple stole my stuff, from my desk and from my bag, then lied to my face, when something clearly had my name on it or scratched it off. My first day ever at my school she scarred me by digging her sharp nails into my skin making a hole in my uniform shirt and sweater. Please tell me AITA for getting revenge and protecting myself when almost choked?

Degenerative Focus
My personal belief is that ADHD is a degenerative accelerant disease. What I mean by that collection of words that I put together for fun is that people naturally lose focus but people with ADHD lose it faster. By lose focus I don't mean the type of focus we lose in an hour I mean the type of focus we lose in a life time.
So picture a perfectly normal human brain person, we will call him, John. So john listens to music while watching netflix and texts with his friends all the same time because fuck it and everyone everywhere. What ends up happening is John loses his ability to focus on anything over time. Let's say for arguments sake... five years. In five years time he loses the ability to read and pay attention to what he is reading due to his bad habits.
Let's call subject two, Sad John. Sad John has ADHD and it makes Sad John well... you know. So let's say Sad John one day watches one youtube video and then another and then switches from one video to another without finishing one or the other. He starts to video hope like a freshman bar hopes... a freshman at any Florida university... just pick one. I swear two of them are named the almost exact same knowing there isn't much of a difference to celebrate. Now Sad John is unfocused. He is about as unfocused as John would be if he split his attention four ways every day for a few years.
Focus Cycling
Sad John doesn't like this state of mind, he hates it. So what could we do to help Sad John? In order to help him we first must understand Focus Cycling. Long story short you naturally become focused and unfocused throughout the day. It is almost as if it mirrors the brain's need to Sleep and Be awake. One must happen for the other to occur.
We want Sad John to be in control of his focus Cycle so he can take advantage of his focus. But what is also important to understand is that when someone tries to focus when Unfocused it further deepens the Degeneration of your focus. Think of it as straining your muscles when you are lifting waits and then something gives. It gets worse not better.
So how can we induce ourselves to be in the focus part of our cycle?
Default Mode Network
Think of it this way, you are in default mode. Default mode means you are. You be and not much else. What is particularly note worthy is even muscle memory when activated pulls one out of default mode.
Without going to much in to the since of it otherwise this might never end lol...
Lay down close your eyes. Palms up so that you aren't flexing your forearms. Try to pin point all of the tension in your body and relax the tension or else the muscle memory will be active. Breath slowly as if you are sleeping. And try to think of nothing. I know it is close to impossible but just try it and over time you'll get better. The idea is to just let your mind go wild and let it settle on it's own.
When it starts acting up again it means it is ready to focus on something. You have 20 minutes of focus. You are in your focus cycle and you have about 20 minutes to do your thing.
Just so you know it can be longer, they say people can focus up to one hour and thirty minutes at a time but since we have ADHD ... let's go with the smallest amount lol
And you do that. You read, study or what have you for 20 minutes and then go back in to default mode for as long as you need. You have to lay down for as long as you think you need to. Sometimes I'm laying down for five minutes, sometimes 20 seconds, just depends how jumpy my brain is.
You do this over time and you will unstrain your focus, meaning your base focus will increase.

Hey guys
I bought a S22 as my work phone ithrough a third party. The phone came with a UAE CSC. Hence, I couldn't use call recording and certain region locked features, which I know are available in my country. In the morning, it showed me the One UI 6.1 update, which was downloaded successfully, just not installed.
In the evening, I used Sam FX to change the CSC to INS (India). It immediately gave me the features I required but my phone now says that One UI 6.0 is the latest update for my phone and that there is no software update available. I am disputing this because I know that One UI 6.1 has been released in India for the S22 and people have already installed it on their phones here.
Am I missing a trick here?

When I started teaching a few years ago, I imagined myself teaching for several years at the same school, and in the same grade. I imagined that the first couple of years I would be ironing out the kinks. And by the third or fourth year I would be able to be more creative and have a lot of fun with my students because I would know the curriculum really well and I would know the school etc. But I’ve worked at several different schools now, not of my own choosing. So I feel like I have to start over each time. And starting over each time is exhausting. I have a potential opportunity to teach at another new school. However, it’s a vastly different grade than I have ever taught. So everything will be very new. And I worry about preparing materials, developing lessons, etc. because what if I have to move again? I guess I’m just feeling defeated. Because I know there’s a chance that I could teach this different grade, and then later transfer to a grade that I’m more familiar with. But then I don’t wanna waste my time creating materials that are going to last because what if I have to move or what if I don’t stay with that grade?

I did 6 AP exams in the span of the past two weeks so I’m gonna rank them in terms of least to most difficult, lmk ur thoughts on it.
I took relatively easy AP classes: AP Seminar, AP Human Geography, AP World history, AP Environmental Science, AP Macroeconomics, and AP Computer Science Principles. So I’m just ranking the easiest out of the easiest lol
1) lightest AP: Tbh I’ll say Human Geography and Environmental Science are tied. I found hug easier because there was more preliminary knowledge and the frqs were so much simpler, less complicated thinking processes.
2) second lightest AP:AP World for sure imo. Easiest AP world test cb probably ever did
3) third lightest AP: CSP, I know it seems like it would be higher up there in terms of easiness but it made me mad, the FRQS were weird and I didn’t feel confident in the mcqs. Like almost fever dreamish, I have no idea if I got a 3 4 or 5.
4) medium light AP: AP Seminar: this involves a LOT of work, comprehension and writing skills, and following rubrics to get a 5. Most work load for sure, but it’s objectively easy, write essays and do presentations on whatever you want. You just have to be good at writing for it to be easy I think.
5) hard AP: WHAT the flip was the Macroeconomics test. The class was sorta fine and the units were short but I died on some of those MCQ questions, it felt like a mess this year. Class was kinda miserable because the teacher never corrected grades, so I’ve heard (I self studied but spent the entire semester learning in the class during lunch). All of the smartest kids at my school admitted it was difficult. There was so much to comprehend and not enough time, like why were there so many graphs?

On The One and Pachanga productions will be involved in community outreach and utilizing our resources to help those in need. When Yalga passed out on the couch I sent a message to the family group chat making sure everyone knew of the situation.
I needed to get Yalga into the hospital, but I didn’t want to do it myself. Pyon also needed a sitter, so I was waiting for mom to come back so Salisek and I could focus on Yalga.
Me: Yalga burned herself on the heat pad. We’re taking her to the ER. Mom, could you come home to take care of Pyon.
Mom: WHAT DO YOU MEAN BURNED HERSELF?! We’re coming home!
Tarvik: On our way. We’ll help you take her.
I didn’t want to bother them, but I couldn’t complain. I needed help. While I waited for them to arrive I poured a cool glass of water for Yalga so she could hydrate herself when she gets up. I gently nudged her awake, which made her groan in discomfort as her eyes opened.
“Dad? What’s going on?” She asked weakly. Her voice was a little rough.
“I’m gonna take you to the doctor,” I answered bluntly. “I am aware, you don’t love doctors but these people can help you much better than me. I’ll be with you as much as I can, holding your hand. Can you be brave for me?”
My daughter nodded yes, so I got up and went upstairs to grab something we’re definitely gonna need. I also made sure Salisek got the news. She probably saw through the chat, but I needed to be sure.
I peeked into our room, or at least the room the girls were staying in together. “Honey?” I called the mother of my children. Salisek was cradling Pyon, trying to calm him down. Pyon was holding his teddy tight enough to cause some visible rips and tears. I need to ask mom to fix that later. “How is he?”
Pyon buried his face in Saliseks chest fur, and made some small whining sounds. “He’s scared. We heard Yalga scream and didn’t know what was going on. He soiled himself when he heard Yalga and has been crying for a while now. He only just stopped. He can sense I’m worried too.”
“You changed him right?”
“Yeah, although I didn’t think now was a good time for potty training. What are you getting?”
Salisek followed me to my mom’s room and watched me search around the closet. “Almost a decade ago, my dad was hit by a car. Something about the sensors being screwed up. He’s obviously fine now, but the car didn’t stop just in time so he broke a leg. Thank God that’s all he got. Anyway, he bought a wheelchair and kept it- Aha!”
I freed the simple contraption buried under a mountain of clothes dad considered put away and carried it downstairs.
“We’re gonna need this. It’s gonna be way easier to move Yalga.”
Salisek continued to cradle Pyon, rocking him back and forth, as she talked to me, “What do you need me to do?”
“Stay with Pyon.”
“No.”
“We’re not arguing about this. I need you to stay-”
“Pardon me, could you repeat that!? Have you forgotten that despite that fact we aren’t married yet we both signed as the legal guardians of both Pyon AND Yalga. Or did you want to call your barber for help?”
Hearing Salisek use her angry voice when talking about anything other than Exterminator and Federation bigotry felt like a punch in the gut.I tried to defuse the situation. That worked about as well as it did when dad tried it.
“Hun, that’s not what I mea-”
“MY-” Salisek paused when she remembered she was still carrying Pyon who was looking at her as if she yelled at him. “Oh, I’m so sorry pup just…” She shifted Pyon's position so he could bury his face into her fur to distract her. She softened her voice, but made it stern as steel. “My daughter is in an incredible amount of pain. She is scared, she is tired. I will be there. Pyon will come with, so he can see his sister being taken care of. I. Will. Be. There. For. My. Daughter. Am I clear?”
I help up my hands in defeat. “Okay. We’ll leave as soon as the family gets here.”
Saliseks voice and posture softened. “Okay. Again this time. What can I do?”
Seeing how serious she was, I realized doing this on my own was a stupid idea from the start. “Pack some snacks. I’m not getting overcharged for crappy hospital junk. And while you’re in the kitchen please grab more water for Yalga. I gotta make sure the bandaging is on well and she’s okay.”
“Okay.”
Salisek walked to the kitchen, still carrying Pyon. At times like these, I know I made the right decision marrying her.
“I love you sweetheart!” I called out.
“I love you too hun!” She called back.
I pulled the wheelchair out so Yalga could get in it. I could try and carry her, but unfortunately with her size and weight it would be better to transport her like this. Even if it’s a short distance.
“Daddy,” Yalga called.
“Yeah.”
“Are you and Mommy mad at each other?” She asked innocently. “Did I do something wrong? I heard Mom say my name.”
I knelt down to give my daughter an assuring kiss on her head. “No kiddo. We had a disagreement like all adults. It’s solved now. We still love each other.”
Despite her monotone voice, it couldn’t hide the tears building in her eyes. “Okay.”
I ignored it for the moment because she was probably gonna cry more in a moment. I opened the chair as much as it could go and gave the seat a nice solid pat.
“We’re gonna put you here, then we’re going to the Emergency Room.”
“Do I have to get up?”
“Yeah. You do. Grab my hand. We’ll go slow.”
Yalga held my hand and grasped it tight. I need to remember that she has a very strong grip. To keep her even I used my other hand to push her up from the other side so she didn’t have to do the work.
I’m so glad I go to the gym.
We slowly worked together to lift her up so she could sit straight.
“Ow, ow!”
“I know it hurts. Take your time.”
Once we got her up we had to get her into the chair. I thought about the best way to put her tail. Through the hole in the back? Would it just drag to the ground? Wait!
I went to the side of the couch where there was a thin blanket for me and Salisek when we slept here. If I can tie the blanket on the handles it can keep her tail up without squishing it. I just need to get her on first.
“Okay Princess. Let’s get up. Can you stand?”
“Y-Yeah. Um, Dad?”
Yalga awkwardly clutched her tail. “I need to use the bathroom.”
My eyes darted from the bathroom to the couch and back. “No better time to test the wheelchair.”
[Memory Transcript Time Skip: 40 Minutes]
Even though it was getting late the traffic was still a lot. Once Salisek was ready we both called our parents and they both said that traffic was heavy. With it being the last Saturday of the year, Florida residents and tourists alike were enjoying their day.
We decided to just meet at the ER. The blanket trick for Yalga’s tail worked well and it didn’t hurt too much for her to walk once she got up. However, sitting down hurt her a lot unless it was in the wheelchair. Her tail probably played a factor since it didn’t have a place to sit except on the side when dealing with regular chairs.
Once we got to the hospital I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t that packed. Because of increased tourism and parties things can get crowded this time of year. Thankfully that wasn’t the case today. I didn’t want my daughter waiting more than she had too.
When I opened the side door, Yalga was already half up just so she could get into a chair with room for her tail. I helped carry her down and rolled her through the hospital's parking lot.
Salisek was having a difficult time carrying Pyon. He was pretty nervous. “Mawmy, I don wan to gow en.”
I didn’t understand why Pyon was scared but Mawmy was able to calm him down. “It’s okay pup. This place is filled with very nice and smart people who can help your big sister.”
My daughter didn’t say much, instead she looked around the large hospital and took in all the architecture and bright lights at the front. The front and lobby areas were clean and comfortable which helped a little to ease the tensions of anyone going in with something they believe is serious.
I rolled Yalga straight to the front desk and we were greeted by the medical receptionist. “Hello, how may I help you?”
I smiled politely and spoke calmly, “Hello, I’m Carlos Rodriguez and this is my daughter Yalga. She was using a heating pad and unfortunately suffered some burns. I was able to patch her up a little, but the gels and methods we have are for humans so I want to make sure she can heal properly. I would also like a professional to look at other areas of concern dealing with her limbs and back.”
“Any pain, shortness of breath, chest pain, profuse bleeding?”
“Her back usually causes her pain and the burning made it worse.”
She gestured to my fiance and son, “Are those two with you?”
“The tall Venlil woman is Salisek, my fiance, and she’s holding our son Pyon. They came for emotional support and to assist with anything Yalga may need.”
“We’ll get you someone right away. Please wait in the lobby.”
“Thank you.”
I knew they probably wouldn’t rush us in since even though Yalga is in pain, there’s no direct threat to her life. The most they’d do is probably a tetanus shot. I suppose I’ll have to worry if Yalga reacts to needles. I’ll try to calm her down because I could tell Yalga was still tense. I rolled her to a seating area with a TV playing Tom and Jerry.
Peak Fiction
With all the stress Yalga was going through, there’s nothing like cartoon violence to ease the mood. What would also ease the mood is having the family visit which according to a message they just sent, they were already here just finding parking.
Soon everyone entered the hospital and after a quick chat with the receptionist, along with me flagging them down, they joined us in the lobby. Helen and Chalta ran to Yalga the quickest.
“Yalga, are you okay?!” Chalta asked. “We heard your back got hurt!”
Helen was about to tackle Yalga into a hug before I stopped her. “Helen, Yalga isn’t feeling well. Please be careful she’s in a lot of pain.” Helen was visibly worried but still gently gave Yalga a supportive hug.
“Get better soon please.”
Talice and Tarvik were surrounding Salisek, asking questions on how they could help.
“Mom, it’s fine, really.”
“No, it’s not fine. Your father and I are here to help so please be honest with us. We’ll help with anything you need. We’ll take Helen home soon but the moment you need anything we’ll be right there.”
“Why isn’t she seeing a doctor yet? What kind of place is this?!”
Mom went over to Salisek who was still holding Pyon. “I can take him sweetie, get some rest.”
Salisek cradled a stressed Pyon in her arms, “Do you wanna go with Grandma, little pup?”
“Gwandma.”
Salisek gently handed Pyon over to my mother who instantly knew how to calm him down. Salisek fell into the chair next to me. She was pretty exhausted and it was getting late. The stress of everything is what really made her worry. Seeing your child in pain isn’t fun. My father put a hand on each of our shoulders.
“Is everything alright?” he asked.
I looked over to my daughter who was trying to watch the cartoon with her sisters but still had a hard time focusing because of the pain, as evident by her trying to adjust herself. I gave her a tap on her shoulder and mouthed “how are you feeling?”. I could only hear a little whisper, but it was enough to understand she was saying “It still hurts.”
Dad could overhear what we were trying to say and knelt down next to Yalga. “What would you like to do when we leave?”
“I’m a little hungry. Can we go eat later?”
“Of course, anything you want.”
I was grateful for my dad, that we remembered to comfort Yalga in all this. I was so new to everything, not to mention the speed at which everything was happening.

Where’s the doctor!
“Carlos Rodriguez,” She called just as my patience was wearing thin. “We’re ready to see you now.”
“Thank you. One moment.”
I quickly talked with my parents and in-laws about who is going home and who is staying. My mom offered to take Pyon home and to tuck him in, Salisek agreed. Talice decided to go with and made sure to bring Chalta and Helen back since they knew they might get bored or cause trouble. Tarvik and Dad were conversing for a bit about who should stay before settling on Dad since he’s more familiar with the hospital.
Salisek gave Pyon a strong nose nuzzle, “I’ll see you later, okay Pyon? Mommy will be home soon. Be good to grandma, okay?”
“Owkay Mawmy.”
“I love you.”
“I wuv yu tu.”
Helen and Chalta gave Yalga a big, but gentle, hug.
“Get better soon.”
“We’ll play lots of games together when you get back.”
Everyone quickly said their goodbyes so it was just me, Yalga, Salisek, and Dad. We followed the nurse to a room and were asked to wait until the doctor arrived. Yalga was really on edge.
“Dad, are you gonna tell Odin about me?”
“It hasn’t crossed our minds. Do you want us to call him so you can talk for a bit?”
“No thank you, I don’t want him to worry.” My daughter fidgeted with her claws in shame. She didn’t want Odin to see her hurt. The moment she’s okay, I’m planning a date for her and Odin. With chaperones of course. “Are the doctors here nice?” Yalga asked nervously.
“Of course they are, Princess. Just answer honestly and they’ll help you get better.”
They’ll help you get better… I hope.
[Memory Transcript Time Skip: 60 Minutes]
“So the spray will help heal and clean the burn so it doesn’t get sick?” Yalga asked curiously.
“That’s right,” Dr. Brown stated. “Soon we’ll give you a small shot to help protect against tetanus. It’s a very dangerous condition that can happen when you get a cut or burn. But you’re being very brave, I’ll see if we can get you a treat later. That is, if your parents are okay with it.”
“gasp Can I daddy?! Pleeeeeeease, I’ve been soooo good.”
I smiled brightly, “Of course you can.”
Dr. Brown was a huge blessing. The guy had been working with kids for a while and was great with Yalga. He was really good at relaxing her and explaining to her what was going on. He was honest and genuine. Salisek really liked him too, and even asked some questions herself. I also remembered him during my reckless years. He recognized me too.
“You’re daddy was quite the troublemaker back in his day.”
“Really?”
“Yup, when he was small he proudly came to me with a broken wrist.”
“Why would he be proud of that?”
“He got it trying to impress his crush.”
Seven-year-old me told you that in confidence.
I awkwardly looked at Salisek, but all she could do was stare and slowly smile while turning to my dad for more information.
“Do you happen to know the full story, dad?” Salisek teased.
“Well daughter, Carlos had a small crush on this girl named Jessica in the second grade and he tried to impress her by jumping off the swing set. He succeeded and flung himself so far into the air that when he landed on his wrist he needed a cast for months.”
“H-Hey! You laugh but it worked. She sat next to me at lunch and gave me her lunchables, that’s like… the pinnacle of love in second grade.”
I earned a laugh from everyone in the room, which almost made me forget that it was at my expense.
“Um, what is a lunchable?” Dr. Triva asked. She was a Zurulian working with Dr. Brown, trying to work with and understand the Arxur biology. While she was important in treating Yalga’s burn with her experience with Harchen Exterminators she would be even more important in trying to understand her condition as a whole. Zurulians have the best medical understanding compared to… pretty much everyone.
“It’s a children’s meal kit for both vegan and non-vegan foods, it’s popular for kids in school lunches.” Dr. Brown took his eyes off his colleague and gave me a sly look. “But let’s be honest, there was never any real meat in those things.”
Yalga’s interests also peaked. “Were they tasty?”
“Back in my day they were the best part of school. They were also a status symbol. Having the best lunchables meant you were the coolest kid.”
“What was the best one, Daddy?”
“Pizza.”
Of course it was pizza. It’s always pizza.
Pizza is God’s gift to the world.
Dr. Triva grabbed the syringe for the shot while Dr. Brown prepped the area. The sight of the needle made Yalga nervous.
“D-Daddy, do we have to…”
“Hey Princess, look at this.”
Yalga took her gaze off the needle and onto my phone where I showed her my favorite distraction.
[Behold Distraction]
“What is that?” Yalga asked. “I like the sounds.”
The legend Zach Choi, his legacy continued by his descendants, loved making short videos of him just cooking. This one was one of the rare ones that didn’t feature meat. Yalga was fully entranced into the process that she didn’t even react to the needle or the bandaid.
“Good job my beautiful pup!” Salisek cheered.
“Yeah… in a minute, mom.”
Dr. Brown chuckled, “I think I should start using those for nervous patients, right Dr. Triva?”
“Yeah… in a minute, Dr. Brown.”
I took my phone away before everyone forgot why they were here and we were ready to proceed. The doctors wanted to really get a look at Yalga and her condition. On the promise of peanut butter cookies and meat lovers pizza Yalga bravely went through all the X-Ray’s, bloodwork, medical history, and any other examinations they needed.
It took a while and she was starting to get frustrated with all the tests, but she persisted, and soon it was over. They allowed us to stay the night to monitor the burn area in case complications arose. So we all stayed in the hospital room, enjoying our time together as if it was a little adventure.
“Mommy look, the bed moves!”
“Pup, please don’t break it.”
Yalga went crazy when she saw how many buttons the hospital bed had, and needless to say, she was enjoying it. She kept Dad occupied with all her questions both about the hospital and about anything else her mind could think of. She was happy to be done with the tests.
“Grandpa, do you think they’ll let me see my bone pictures later?”
“Sure, but they need someone who is trained to look at them first and show them to the doctors.”
“There’s someone who knows how to look at pictures of bones?”
“Yup, they can see things we can because they’re bone smart. Do you wanna be a doctor when you grow up?”
“I dunno. Maybe I can be a doctor for bones, a bone doctor!”
It was nice seeing her happy, but Salisek and I were still worried about what they would find. What would it take to heal Yalga? Could they do it? I think so, but how long will it take? I don’t care about the financial cost, I care about the physical and mental toll it would take on Yalga. But would we have a choice?
I looked to my fiance who was rapidly tapping her foot onto the ground, impatiently waiting for the doctor to come back in and give us the news on Yalga’s condition.
“It can’t be that bad right?” she whispered. “With aid from the Zurualians they must have a way to easily fix Yalga’s condition. So what’s taking them so long?”
“They’re probably just double checking some things. I’m sure it’s nothing.” I could tell she was still stressed, so I held her hand and kissed her cheek. “Our daughter will be fine.”
Salisek tried to keep herself from crying for Yalga’s sake, but had the doctors not finally arrived she might’ve broken.
“Carlos, Salisek? You’re the parents correct?” Dr. Trivia asked. “I’ll just need to see you both very quickly to discuss some things.”
Finally ready for some answers we quickly got up, kissed our baby goodbye for now, and followed the Zurulian to a small room with Dr. Brown.
“Mr. Rodriguez and Mrs., do you prefer to be called Salisek or are you fine with adopting Mrs. Rodriguez?” The doctor politely asked.
“I’m fine with either, but I would like to get used to Mrs. Rodriguez.” I could feel her hand strengthen her grip in mine.
“Wonderful,” Dr. Brown took out a small folder that showed some of Yalga’s X-Rays, notes, and documents. “First things first, your daughter's burns should heal very soon.”

“Yes, thank you Dr. Triva. But of course this is not the only information you wanted to know about. The condition of your daughter is concerning. Not only because of the condition of her injuries, but also her condition that allows her body to grow at an exaggerated rate.”
Dr. Triva put the X-Ray slides on a projector for us to see. Seeing Yalga’s bones and how badly they were broken made my stomach turn, and my heart sink. I could hear Salisek’s gasp from how shocked she was.
It looked like a child had rearranged the right side of her body like a poorly constructed jigsaw puzzle. What made things worse was that the other side of her body looked nearly untouched meaning we could see all the damage her sperm donor did. I know how it felt to have broken a few bones as a kid. Her life would’ve been torture for me. I have know idea how she could live like that.
Why didn’t I take her here the moment we got home? How long has she been suffering like this?
“As you can see the limbs that didn’t grow as much were the ones that were injured the most. Trauma can be a factor in how limbs develop,” Dr. Triva explained. “You can see here how the bones didn’t heal correctly. Upon questioning your daughter it’s no question her back holds the most problems, but looking at her arms and legs it’s possible they’re also providing an incredible amount of discomfort and pain.”
Salisek wrapped her tail around my leg nervously. “So, what does this mean?”
“It means,” Dr. Brown continued. “That before we even think about her back we should address what’s going on in the rest of her body. If you look at her pelvic bone you can see it isn’t straight due to her walking on uneven legs for lord knows how long. So we think it would be best to first start realigning the bones as well as doing the appropriate extensions. My only concern is that her accelerated growth may cause complications, so she’ll need to visit here frequently.”
My fiance’s grip tightened as she looked deeper into the X-Rays, “I see. How long will it take for her to recover?”
“Several months, due to the severity of it. We can do the arms and legs separately, but that would be up to you. There’s a possibility it could take longer. We just can’t be certain with her growth, but we’ll have experts working round the clock on her case.”
“I-I see. But you can help her right?”
“We will do all within our power to make sure your daughter is healthy and lives a pain free life.
“Thank you… could you give us a moment. We would like to let our daughter know about it before we make arrangements.”
“Of course. Please let us know when you’re ready.”
We politely walked out of the room and turned around the corner away from where Yalga was.
“Honey?” I asked. “Is everything okay?”

We met about 3 months ago, and started dating almost immedietly. We have no mutual friends, I have basically zero friends outside of online stuff and she is the same way. We have moved kind of quickly. Said I love you within the first few weeks, but haven't had sex yet. I'm a virgin and she isn't.
She invited me into a discord server with all her friends and all of them are weirdos. Spouting racial slurs, being edgelords, and one of them is like 22 years old.
I later learned that she and him met 5 years ago. She was 13 and he was 16. They fucking dated at one point. At one point he was 17 and she was 13. I could never imagine myself dating anyone even a year younger than me. Her best friend is a racist horrible person who's flirted with people when they were dating. She constantly says the n word despite being white as fuck and once said "I wonder how tight a newborn is". She has zero redeeming qualities and promotes cheating, dating people only for looks, and talks nonstop about dick size. My girlfriend is best friends with this scumbag???
About relationships, I've never been in a serious one. She's been in several. This is the first time she's ever actually loved someone she said.
I found out she was insanely sexual with her ex. Like, several times a day. I'm nervous to even do it once, and it's been months. She says she doesn't care and it's not that important but if it isn't why was it so important previously?
Now onto the other stuff. We don't really have anything in common. She only watches horror, I think the genre sucks ass. The only thing is dumb comedies with Adam Sandler and Seth Rogan and that's it. The only thing we like in common basically. She got bored when we tried to watch Star Wars, doesn't like any of the things I do like games or ANYTHING. I don't even know what we talk about. Basically nothing. I just try my hardest to be "entertaining" and we goof around and spend the rest of the time cuddling and stuff. I don't see us doing dumb fun stuff I would love to do, hanging out and doing stupid shit and talking about stuff like that. I know this all sounds very juvenile lol but having similar interests is important and I'm now realizing that.
She hates talking about her problems. She has eating issues and refuses to eat and I constantly stress about it. She just won't. I try to get her to and she won't. Some nights she'll be in a terrible mood and I can tell, but she just says she's fine. But I start to overthink it and assume the worst. She's always lying, I find out afterward. And I feel like shit she lied. And she just won't even try to talk about it. I don't blame her but it just doesn't work. Neither of us end up happy all night long.
And as for life? We both JUST graduated. She needs to move out of her parents house because of her horrible father and she's trying to figure out how to do that. We thought maybe she could move in with me, as I will be getting my own place (paid for by my grandparents) for college. It's not normal, but she has to get out asap and I think that can make an exception. After that? I don't know what I want to do in life. She wants to be an actress. She wants to move to another state and make a big name for herself. I just want to make ends meet and come home to someone I love.
I just don't see a future with her. Where we work. Where I'm happy. I've stopped talking to all of my friends to give her like all of my attention and it kind of sucks. I find myself enjoying talking to my friends more. We don't even call or text because we have nothing to talk about. I feel wrong saying I love you now. Feel wrong even typing it. It's not honest. We talked about it tonight and her responses only make me feel worse about it. She loves me a lot, she said I'm the love of her life, she said she kind of needs me and she has a history of self harm and suicide attempts. And I don't want her to do something. And I feel wrong leaving her. It feels so bad and wrong, all of it. I don't know what I should do.

tl;dr: my girlfriend and I have nothing in common, her friends suck, we have different life goals, get into conflicts a lot recently, and now I need to make a decision before it's too late because we both graduated

I feel so incompetent. Almost everytime I get assigned in a group project, especially written projects etc. i would often choose the easier part so at least i can contribute something, but i cant seem to understand properly the instructions and what to do. I ask to my group mates, they answer. I still dont understand since i often find their answers vague for me to understand (im just dum) but I’ll do my best to understand instructions. Only for them to keep asking and asking to redo it (they were being kind in asking too) which in itself aint bad. It’s just keeps happenig often to the point every time i edit em, they would eventually redo everything i did. I feel so useless. I rarely ask insturctions anymore since theyll end up changing it anyway and i cant understand fuqing basic instructions.. i shouldve not take this course when my group mates is doing all the work and i cant keep up with em..
I want to build my confidence so bad, but i cant seem to ignore the fact i am often the dumb one in the classroom, always below average in acad performance (there is a feature in our website how we doing in our acad performance anonymously, and i am always below average and sometimes the lowest), my parents aint even expecting much from me and still get stressed out whenever I am at the edge of the minimum passing grade, and had encountered several publicly humiliating things i did infront my my classmates (almost fainting during a class presentation and ditched, my group mates had to handle with our strict scary prof at the time.. I am a domestic high school graduate who has already taken the college entrance examination (Gaokao-China), majoring in the sciences, with a keen interest in computer science and mathematics. I'm the first generation of university students in my family, and we are not financially affluent. I don't have a green card, and I'm also Deaf and a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
During my time in high school, I maintained an average score of 95. In language proficiency exams, I scored 71 on the TOEFL, with sub-scores of 28 in reading, 22 in writing, 15 in listening, and 6 in speaking (I couldn't exempt from the speaking and listening exams, but I will explain this situation during the application process). I plan to take the SAT exam in June and a special TOEFL exam in August.
Regarding my major in computer science and mathematics, I'm considering switching to a different field such as linguistics, education, or psychology.

ESSAY My object is an old-fashioned computer, and this objects is a table, then this table is my desk (app development) and the table where I cook for my family (family responsibilities + low-income).
The purpose of the first paragraph is to set up a scene, the old computer and the cooking bring out that I have family responsibility, and life is not easy.
In the second paragraph, recall how I got along with the old-fashioned computer - for example when I was a child and could still hear, you used the computer to play games; gradually grew up, I began to dislike the computer is too slow, too old, not advanced enough hearing assistance
The third paragraph, the twist - write how I learned programming and English on my own through this old computer and used this old computer to create new opportunities for myself
Fourth paragraph, fifth paragraph - describes two qualities
To wrap up the text, this is a metaphor for how I will always be mindful of where I am from, and always be aware of the deaf, LGBTQ, and low-income communities
I don't know much about deafness, I seem to have some differences in my hearing, and I often misinterpret people's words. I felt the impact of deafness as if the world had lost its colour in silence. In conversation, I grew to rely on spoken words, and the lack of hearing made understanding more and more difficult. My friends' conversations drifted away as if they lived in a world beyond my reach.
But I will never forget the old computer I grew up with (meaning I will never forget where I came from and will always think for people like myself)

1. socially, my world is quiet - I want to understand the world in silent mode
   
   1. in my family life, my world is full of burdens -- I have to take care of my parents while fulfilling my life goals.
2. academically, my world is lacking in resources -- as a deaf person, I can't go to university to study my favorite computer subject like a normal person.
   

Can provide some general direction on the advice, although you guys pointed out to provide feedback, I essay also have no idea (my thinking counts as a particularly simple question) specifically which question needs to be changed, I conceive of the outline of ideas.

Hello! I am 37F looking for a (best?) friend. I’ve tried this before and it went … surprisingly well? Except there were too many people and I got overwhelmed but I made 1.4 friends out of it, so I figured I’d try again, with better knowledge!

THIRDEST, I’m a little weird. I like that about me. I’ve had problems in the last where I people-please too hard and wind up not being able to be true friends because the other person has gotten to know/like the facade, and bringing out the real me is almost like disingenuous, at that point? So trying to not do that anymore! Not gonna dump all my weird on you at once, but best you know it’s in the forecast and can dress appropriately (ponchos recommended for the first three rows).
