I have this old mattress and just wondering approximately what year it may be from. It’s so heavy, wondering if there’s fiberglass or some type of glass in it or why it is so insanely heavy. It’s a Stearns & Foster Luxury Firm Euro Pillowtop.

Ever since we got a new platform bed, our latex mattress and topper have become way too firm. My shoulder and neck are killing me so I went to Costco hoping to find a mattress. I couldn't find any showroom models to try, but on my way home I noticed a Mattress Firm and stopped by.
I found a few plush mattresses at Mattress Firm that seemed nice (Beautyrest Pressuresmart 2.0 Lux Plush pillowtop, Sealy Plus Euro Top, Serta iSeries 2.0 Hybrid 3000 Plush, Posturepedic Plus Hybrid High Point Plush, Sealy Posturepedic Lacey Plush) in a variety of prices, so I thought maybe I would settle on one after checking out the reviews. I almost decided to pull the trigger on the Beautyrest Pressuresmart based on the Consumer Reports review. I'm a petite combination sleeper, husband's weight seesaws between 160-220.
But it sounds like Costco's mattress return/refund policy is much more generous, though I don't find much specific info on their website. The Costco selection of plush mattresses online seems quite limited. Wish I could see or try them first.
I'm paralyzed with indecision and also with shouldeneck pain!

Hello, I am back after another mattress that didn't suit me...
I’m hoping to get some help picking a queen size mattress in Canada for under $1500, and ideally under to $1300.
About me: about 5’10” and roughly 200 lbs, almost exclusively side sleeper with rare occasions in which I end up napping on my back or will slightly turn towards my stomach while still sleeping on my side. I don't usually tend to sleep hot but do keep a fan next to my bed just in case. Once in a while I'll wake up a bit sore. I do like a bit of plush sensation but don’t love completely sinking into a bed that it’s hard to roll to my other wise. In the past I have enjoyed sleeping on plush pillow-tops. I don’t love completely sinking into the mattress and feeling trapped but I do enjoy a bit of “hug” and feeling cradled within the mattress. I also appreciate good support because I don't like my mattress sagging.
I am thinking going with BIAB might be the easiest option here (but happy to be persuaded otherwise) both financially, and logistically
I had previously owned the Hamuq hybrid but returned it as I wasn't getting a comfortable sleep on it. It was hard to point out what the reason for that was (my sleep schedule is also part of the problem). I think it was maybe slightly too firm. Sometimes, but not too often, I woke up a little sore. I didn't sleep hot in it. I just didn't find it to be the most comfortable.
Then. I tried the silk and snow organic mattress, which I found overly bouncy and could feel the springs through the latex at times. I liked the edge support, but overall, I still woke up a little sore and didn’t find that I was cradled and supported in the way I would have liked.
Now, I’m thinking the I’d fare better with a supportive medium mattresses. I’m pretty open to suggestions, as what I’ve thought would be good for me in the past hasn’t really worked out. I will say, I also prefer thicker mattresses and am looking for one that is at least 13” in height.
With that in mind, I have narrowed down my options to the following:

• Endy Hybrid ($1063, on sale): Endy foam (unsure on depth), 13" tall, and 100 night trial.
• Logan and Cove Frontier ($1299): 2.5" of Gel foam and Elastex foam, 13.5" tall, with high coil count and 365 night trial.

Any thoughts would be appreciated as I am unable to try any of them in person. Would love to hear from people with experience on these mattresses too. Also open to other suggestions.

I’m currently planning a solo trip to Tanzania and also mainly contemplating if I should go during the great migration or in march 2025. Also not sure wether I should fly between places or get a driver. I really always wanted to see the African wilderness and what better place then Tanzania is there.
I could get flight from DUS to Kilimanjaro JRO and return from Zanzibar ZNZ for 925 euros with Lufthansa/Edelweiss.
Itinerary:
Fri 7th March Departure
Sa: arrival Kilimanjaro JRO Exploring the areas, maybe Mt Eru, Kilimanjaro takes to long around 9 day hike. But overall just arriving and enjoying the landscapes and rainforest. Also spent some time in Arusha, seen a couple nice Hostels there.
Thursday 13th: travel to Ol Doinyo Lengai and climb to the top, most definitely with a tour guide or some group. It’s a 1 day hike to reach the top from nearest town. Have to find a way to get there and then stay a couple days in that area hiking and exploring.
Mon 17th: travel to Serengeti National Park and stay for about 5-6 days in the park. Now prices will be very high in that are so might be that 5 days is enough.
Sun 23th: fly to Zanzibar and spend the remaining weeks on this beautiful tropical island, found some cool hostels directly at the beach.
Sun 30th: fly home from Zanzibar with Eurowings Discover direkt to FRA
Accommodations for the time with a couple hostels, one resort in Serengeti and a guest house will be around 1500€ with the majority beeing eaten up by Serengeti (1000€). Don’t know what my daily budget would be for Tanzania but since it’s going to be in pretty remote places probably need 50-60€ a day. So everything total should be between 3500 and 4000€. Wich is not cheap but would also love to go a bit lower, it’s a once in a lifetime journey tho.
I been solo traveling for the past 12 years off and on now, experienced hiker as well and love photography.
Any input would be greatly appreciated, especially on getting around in Tanzania and if I’m missing out on something, thanks!

Did anyone purchase Kingsdown Passions Beckingham Hybrid Mattress or Kingsdown Passions Auburnwood Hybrid Euro Pillowtop Mattress ?
Looking to buy one of these but wanted to know the feedback. Both of them have really good reviews. We are looking to buy medium firm king mattress.

I feel like I have heard a lot of stories like mine: people who had an old Beautyrest or Sealy or similar bed that was soft and comfortable and lasted for 20 years. Of course that was before memory foam, which has ruined everything. I am looking for the bed I used to have, but I know the S-brands don't make them anymore. The question is: is there a similar bed made by anyone these days? I like a soft bed but prefer less tufting - a tight top or euro top vs. a pillowtop. It seems like innerspring beds these days use either memory foam or latex as the comfort layer and I don't really like either! Memory foam is way too hot and breaks down and sags too quickly. I tried several kinds of latex but they all felt too firm and bouncy for me. I am a side-sleeper so need something that is plush and good for pressure relief. So who makes an old-school polyurethane foam and innerspring bed anymore? Something that is soft and comfortable and will hold up without memory foam or latex?

Kingsdown seems to get mixed reviews, several of which are about sagging, which is the reason we are looking for a new mattress. Our current mattress is sagging significantly, we call them “bum divots”, they are deep enough that it feels like rolling up hill to move around. It’s roughly 9 years old.
I’m 5’ and around 100 lbs and my husband is 6’7” and roughly 160 lbs. We have rotated our current mattress every 6 months like recommended. We bought at The Bay - it was half price when we bought it but still over $3000.
Anyone have experience with this specific mattress? It’s on sale for $850 including delivery.

TLDR: My mattress sagged so much I couldn't sleep on it, so I took all the polyfoam off and replaced with latex. It's working out great so far!
I've had a long saga with mattresses, sagging and back pain.
Mattress 1 - I bought a queen mattress from a local retailer, and it lasted for 7 years. A sag (aka impression, dip) started to appear on my side, and slowly got worse and worse. It got so bad that I was sleeping better on a backpacking air mattress on the floor. So, that was bad.
Mattress 2 - Pleased with how long the queen lasted, we bought a king from the same retailer. Here is a link to it (this is not where I bought it): link. It has a 10-year warranty, great! After about 6 months, the same thing started to happen as with the queen. Sag on my side, getting uncomfortable, etc. For reference, I am a skinny guy. I called up the retailer and they replaced it.
Mattress 3 - A direct replacement for the previous one. Guess what happened with this one? If you said "sagging", you're right! The same stupid problem, happening again. We tried rotating it, and after lying in the sag from my side for 10 minutes my wife said that it felt like she was being punished. We rotated it back. I returned to sleeping on the backpacking air mattress.
Online Research - This miserable situation lead me to a huge research project. I had to solve this problem. I found mixed reviews on every kind of mattress. Some people just like me, some people totally happy. I subscribed to Consumer Reports, and found their information unhelpful. It is all so confusing! Every mattress claims to be so great, with so many reviews.
/mattress - Then I found this fine subreddit! I read it all: how are mattresses made, how does DIY work, why does sagging happen. So, so much to learn! I settled on a plan: remove all the foam off the top of my mattress and replace with a latex topper.
The Plan - I was inspired by these videos of Ken from diymattress.com doing exactly this thing. video 1 video 2 video 3. It looked pretty easy, it looked like it would solve the problem.
Topper Shopping - I scoured the internet for options. I found them at: DIYmattress, SleepEZ, Sleep On Latex, Naturally Nestled, and Latex Mattress Factory. I went with the Natural, 3", King-size, medium firmness topper from Naturally Nestled (link). The price was good, and they accept returns.
Mattress Surgery - I did exactly what the videos said to do, and found exactly what he found. The springs are fine, they're not sagging. It's all the garbage foam on the top. I even found a stupidly small strip of gel foam they advertise but doesn't do anything. All that crap had to go! I put the topper on, and put it back in a simple case that we were already using (link). I also put back on a quilted topper (link) I had been using before. Overall I removed 5-6" of crap foam, and added 3" of nice cushy latex foam.
The Result - It's great! The sag is gone! It feel so supportive and comfy. I have been sleeping so, so much better. The latex is kinda bouncy compared to PU foam. It also seems to isolate movement better. I've had this for a couple months and I'm really happy. I'm feeling confident I will know what to do if the sag comes back.
The Culprit? - While doing this, I took another look at my box springs. I had two TwinXL box springs that came with the original mattress. Put side-by-side, they fit exactly under the king mattress. Upon closer inspection, they look really cheap. There are very few slats in the middle. Also there is a noticeable ridge on the seam between the two box spring. I suspect that the sag was worsened by the poor support from the box springs, because the part that was over the ridge is not sagging.
No More Box Springs - Suspecting these pieces of junk as part of the problem, I took them out. Now the mattress is sitting on the floor, and it works great. It's on the to-do list to get a nice supportive bed for it.

Hi my stearn and foster reserve plush euro top. Was sagging already . I had to warranty it. Unfortunately im stuck at mattress firm. I have to choose something from there. The reserve It was alittle hard for me and to stiff. Over kill on the extra coils i guess. Good for a heavier person. Plus i notice with all the mattresses i tried in the store. None of them feel good. I always sunk in the center to much when i laid on my back. because of my big butt. Skinny body. Which caused my legs and shoulder area to float and not sink in with me. Also Throws off my back alignment off. Sag in center like a crator. Use to not to be like that. Use to lay on mattresses in the store. You could tell what you like. There not the same , all feel like the same cheap mattress lol
Im 5’9 139 . Boney and skinny .i usually sleep on my side. When my arm hurts. Sometimes i sleep on my stomach and back. As long as my body align really doesnt matter. I have a bunch of different pillows. I use a thin one it keeps my body aligned. The best. Anything thicker is no good for me throws off my alignment off. Anyways im thinking more of a hybrid mattress now. Im going to try out stearn and foster luxe hybrid soft. Or should i go more with the firm or medium ? Wondering if there any other recommendations i should try ? Serta hybrid? Seallyhybrid? Temperpedic hybrid? All junk ? Lol Reading the pages sounds like none of the mattreses are really good anymore lol. I agree , i layed on them all and it just doesnt feel like what they use to. I dont like any of them lol. All feel like the same mattress lol, over priced to. I remeber Back in 2012. I use to just have a sealy posterpedic pillowtop. It Was great. Then i put a sensorpedic euro topper on it from boscovs. It was Heaven baby perfect. I was like damn memory foam toppers r awesome lol . Plus Laying on the toppers in the store back in 2012 , you could instantly tell the difference. Instant buy no thinking about it. Yup thats it . The sensorpedic pillows were amazing. But Not the same now , so dont go buying them lol . They were to good i guess and they got rid of the quality since. Or got bought up by someone else. I tried bunch of toppers since and mattresses. they all feel the same cheapness. It Make sense there was No reason to buy a new mattress with the quality we have . all about the money now. Not about the customer, no pride in there work lol. My old set up I wish i never got rid of it. Now the Quality is just garbage anymore.i feel like im in the twilight zone lol.

I like the feel of the pillowtop, but I'm worried about sagging. Raymour and Flannigan does have a 10 year manufacturers warranty though on 1.5 in sagging. The Sealy has a 4.9/5 starts across nearly 1300 reviews. Am I overthinking this?

Looking at Costco Canada. I've narrowed it down to their two Kingsdown plush mattresses. Does anyone have experience with either of them? I honestly can't tell the difference. There are a bunch of words in the description and the pictures have no description at all.

I was set on buying a Beautyrest Black K/KX but it just wasn’t great when I tested it. We tried Tenpur Pedic Luxe Breeze. We tried a Soft model that was brand new and a soft that had been in the store for a while—break in is a real thing for those mattresses. Both didn’t quite relieve pressure when sleeping on side but sleeping on back or belly, they are comfortable—get a medium or firm. Sort is too marshmallow-y. We tried various Airelooms but the one we liked has too much motion transfer. Reviews are scarce and it’s easier to find negative comments versus positive. We tried Kingdown but it was just ok. I had previously tried Purple and didn’t like the grid feeling on the one I tried. Alas, we ended our day laying on a Plush Euro Top SF Reserve mattress (we also tried Duet earlier in the day but it seemed gimmicky). It was plush,supportive, no motion transfer, good in most positions. I was exhausted and overwhelmed at this point. Went back the next day and laid on it for 1 minute and knew immediately it was the one. Alas, reviews online are hard to go by for a mattress. Had we not tested other mattresses, each of those we tested would have been good but not quite the best for us. I refuse to get another bed in a box again. The reviews for top mattresses plastered all over Reddit and google are BIAB types which is super suss. We ordered a Tempurpedic Ergo 3 base which was tested with this mattress on top of it and quite a luxury. They threw in a tempurpedic cloud pro pillow and knocked $500 off the grand total of “price locked” items. Just through I’d throw a post here as I read this thread for guidance and definitely got some good pointers and things to look out for. My advice is if you’re not set/comfortable w a mattress in the store, buy from manufacture as they are less expensive and easier to return mattresses to. We were fairly confident in this choice. If we hate it, then it will be about $3-500 to return it-negating our price savings at the store. If we love it, well, then we saved a few hundred dollars and got a nice pillow thrown in that was another $300 (why are pillows so expensive??).
Best of luck in your endeavors and search. It’s exhausting. Best thing to do is try them in store and support that store if you like the mattress. BIAB is probably good value if on a budget but if you can stretch or make use of financing, then the in store experience is good.
