My wife and kids live in Mexico while we're processing their immigration papers. The idea was for me to cross into TX (specifically Eagle Pass) every day to work while we were together in Mexico. 1/2 a squeezed lemon, in a cup…add 2/3 tsp of alkaline: baking soda not arm and hammer that contains aluminum buy bobs red mills baking soda.

I grew up in a small rural ski town where I was one of the poorest kids in my elementary school. My mom had just moved my brother and me away from my dad and we were struggling, we lived in motels for a bit and crashed at some of her friends' houses before moving into a cheap basement suit with two bedrooms, my brother got his own while I shared a room with my mom. Everything I had told her had been put into her script but not as I told them, the main character went through these things and was unphased by everything that happened, disappointed in her mother for not doing enough and fighting with her evil drug addict brother. I wanted to cry, specifically at the depiction she had turned my family into, my hard-working and loving mother was written off to just be a slacker when in reality she was doing absolutely everything she could to give both me and my brother a good life and then my straight edge military brother was turned into the scum of the earth. The depiction of my poverty she wrote had me sick to my stomach, the main character was a sex addict, the mother was an alcoholic, and the brother had a drug addiction as well as abused the main character. I told her that not every person living in poverty was poor because of an addiction or crutch and sometimes it was just an unfortunate circumstance, in our case, it was fleeing from my abusive dad and trying to get on our feet. It also irked me how she had written it to be completely tragic and sad but I was a child for most of it and didn't realize how bad it was; when the power would go out it would be a fun game of lights out for me and my brother, we didn't understand why my mom was so stressed out when we had to stay in hotels, all we knew was that we got to share a bunk bed and go swimming in the indoor pool. I wanted her to understand that we were still regular people when we were impoverished, we were just that, regular people who didn't have much. Shannon seemed embarrassed that I was so upset about what she wrote, it took me fifteen minutes to read the entire thing and we sat in complete silence as I did so, when I reached the last page I was crying. At first, she thought I was crying because I was so moved by her glamourization of addiction and poverty before I told her that I hated it. That was when Shannon began to cry. I had shut down her screenplay as soon as I finished it and I asked why she was crying. She moved on to say "It's loosely based on what you told me, it isn't meant to be you and your family." I wanted to laugh when she said this, even the name of the main character rhymed with mine, she kept the tragic events and cut out the good memories as well as the good nature of my mom and brother, I was livid. I want to tell you about one scene that made me want to strangle her: The family's power went out on the main character's birthday so they lit tea candles to see in the dark, the mother lit a cigarette with one of the candles before calling her daughter a slut and putting it out in her birthday cake- what happened in real life was the power had gone out on my birthday, my mom worked all day and came home with a discounted pride cake since my birthday is in June. My brother and I had lit the tea candles long before my mom came home, she smeared the 'Happy Pride!' text on the cake replaced 'pride' with 'birthday' using Nesquik then used the tea candles to light the candles for my cake. This was the first time I had ever gotten a birthday cake, I was eleven and it's one of my happiest memories to date. I'm realizing this is too long so I'll finish it off, she's proceeding with the student film despite me asking her not to and offering different plots to follow instead. Shannon had blocked my number and I haven't heard from her in a week aside from awkwardly seeing her around campus to which she looks the other direction and ignores me.

I was reading this CBC article and they seem to have done a pretty decent job explaining what is going on, so help me understand why is there so much anxiety over these tests. I'll put what I took from this article in points, if I'm wrong, please do correct me.

1. Police are stopping drivers based on what they think is suspicious behaviour or if they smell weed on you or in the car.
   
2. They are doing roadside screening tests and the devices are set at a limit of 25 ng/ml. So if you are over that threshold, you fail the test. It's a pass or fail test.
   
3. If you fail the swab test, it means fines, license suspension, car impounded, re-take alcohol course.
   
4. If an officer asks for a blood test (which they apparently very rarely do because it's a whole different and time consuming process), then they are tested on the federal limit of 2-5ng/ml in an individual's bloodstream.
   
5. The roadside tests are in place to check recency of consumption, not impairment. So, if you are above the 25ng/ml limit, they say you have recently consumed THC.
   

Separate point that I heard from friends: THC in our saliva spikes after recent use but goes below the 25ng/ml limit after a day or few hours depending on level of consumption. So you can essentially pass the swab tests but not the blood tests.
I know many people use it for medical purposes, and many just for recreation. A lot of them may not be high after 6-12 hours, but some still may be. So are we challenging this generalized testing method and if so, what are our alternatives?
Genuinely curious here about these:

• Is 25ngl/ml of THC in saliva indicative of a high impairment level? Or is that just a base level from one puff?
• Is 25ng/ml of THC in saliva measured at the same level as 2-5ng/ml in blood? What I mean to say is, is it actually 5 times higher or they are just different and have no co-relation?
• If they are same, aren't we in a better position because we can trip a roadside test (say, at 20ng/ml) but if a blood sample is taken (say, due to an accident), we fail that and are at risk of a criminal charge?

Now, if the devices are faulty or if there is no fair play, then yeah, that's a whole other matter.

I have been looking into Esquif canoes a lot, and am really leaning towards the Heron. It has 3 seats in the design, which would allow me to "comfortably" take at least 2 of my kids out with me at the same time. I have thought about the Mallard as well.

What worries me is the square backing. I definitely can't afford a motor right away, and I don't really want one. I've read and seen on videos that a square back is far from ideal for a paddler. I've thought about the Scout, but it seems a little small for us.

Its not even about extreme hungebinging, im honestly past that phase. But i just cant do things like bringing lunch with me to school because i could not wait till the lunch time and would eat it on the first occasion. Like i know its in my bag—and that just BOTHERS me so much. I need to eat it to ‘get rid off’ it. Is it possible that my body is too scared that ill start restricting again so that now i need to eat everything on the first chance i get? Its so annoying. My 3.5 year old son and 1 year old daughter have been going to an in home daycare - my son for the last year or so, and my daughter for 6 months. My husband and I had been so happy with it. The kids loved it for the most part, although my son cried on and off that he didn’t want to go. But my daughter hugged the teachers when she went in. They sent pictures regularly. We never saw a red flag. This past week that’s been turned upside down, as pretty serious allegations have come out:

• The owner pinched children and locked them in the bathroom as discipline.
• She napped on the couch all day and only came out when the parents came, leaving the assistant alone with 15 children.
• She restricted food (snatched plates away if they didn’t want to eat and wouldn’t give them food all day) and fed them spoiled food.
• She made them lay down for hours, by the end as long as from 11:30-4, and there is proof.
• She encouraged the kids to fight and dog pile on top of each other, also proof.
• She took kids beyond capacity and they somehow disappeared when someone came to inspect the daycare.
• she let infants cry and cry and cry and said it was okay and that “they need to learn”. I’m sure she did the same to my daughter

Between the proof and my son confirming some parts, like her locking his friend in the bathroom, I know the allegations are true. I have zero doubt.
In the past, the owner had pointed out bruises on our daughter’s arm on two separate occasions, once to my husband and once to me, asking where they came from. We said they definitely weren’t there in the morning, and she came up with some excuse about how she did it to herself. “OHHHH, you know what I think happened… insert excuse here.” Now I’m certain she did that to deflect any blame and look less suspicious.
Thankfully the assistant teacher, after spending a few months there becoming more and more disturbed, came forward and reported this to the police, who did nothing but inspect the daycare (the owner is not going to abuse children in front of the police, obviously) and close the case. She also reported it to the dept of social services. We hope she will at least lose her license.
It makes me sick to my stomach. That someone would hurt a fucking defenseless one year old.
It makes me sick that some parents are still sending their kids, although we have alerted almost all of them. But not everyone has sat down face to face with the assistant teacher, looked at the pictures and videos like I have. Maybe they are just in denial.
I’m at a loss for what to do, and I feel powerless.

I (21F) have been working retail for almost four years. I worked fast food as my first job (Chick-fil-A) for a couple of months, then I worked at a grocery store for almost two years as a pickup shopper. And I then I quit to focus on school. Then around the holidays last year, I worked at a department store as a seasonal associate. Now after a few months of unemployment, I got hired as a sales associate for a fashion store. This is the second time i found my out the my mom is cheating again. The first time was when i was in 8th grade. I remember that the exact moment i found out, i was outside with her and we were grilling the food and a text message popped up and i read it and immediately went to my room and started to cry but i never told her and hid it deep down for years and joked about it. The second time happened exactly the same way but in a car. I wanted to play music and i saw some text messages and realized that she was cheating again.
The first time was okay because i couldn’t process my mind around it but this time it hurt me and i felt like she betrayed me. I want to tell but i don’t know when and how. I want to tell her how hurt i am and how tired i am. Something i could not get past was that she was texting like she was in love and has never acted that way with my dad. I felt betrayed for him since she is always undermining him. I admit that he is not the best husband but he tries to be one and always does what she wants.
Btw there was one point where she did leave (not divorced just lived with her sister) and she told me that she wanted to stay for me but i told her that she should live her own life and I’m not stopping her because at this point I was ready for them to live apart because they would always argue anyways. But she didn’t and stayed. So, This would been fine if they weren’t married but they are so i don’t understand why she stayed if she was going to cheat and lie about it.
These past few days, my mental health is getting worse. I feel stressed and have anxiety because whenever my mom leaves the house i think that she is going to call him or go to his house. And whenever she comes back home, i question her and try to avoid her because i feel uncomfortable. I have been getting irritated whenever she tries to talk to me which makes me avoid her more. I don’t like she acts when i know she is cheating (I’m basically not trusting her anymore which is sad since she is my mom).
The worst part is that she is mean and talkes about my body and how i need to lose weight so i already have been distant with her. She talk like i need to follower her every bidding because its her house. And im scared to tell her and her not caring if i know or not and dismissing my feelings (this would not be the first time). I am also about to graduate high school(literally tomorrow) so i will be spending more alone time her. Which makes more hesitant to tell her. But My mom isn’t dumb and i think she knows that i know. I (22F) have been working in fast food/ retail since I was 17 and I’m finally ready to take that leap to leave my current job and find one that will help advance my career and give me at least some financial stability. I also live in NorCal for context (not sure if I’d be willing to move quite yet.) I’ve been at my current retail job since 2021 and was honestly just going to stay there until I was completely finished with college but I just received my AA and the current management im under is so difficult to work with and extremely offensive I can barely take it not to mention I’ve been in management for about 2 years now and have gone from at least 20hr a week (part time) to less than 10hr a week, less than some associates and they’re all 3 hour shifts so I’m not even allowed to take a 10min break though im not even sure if that’s legal??
I am very fortunate to not have to pay rent as I live with my parents and I only have to worry about paying for my car, gas, phone, school, necessity’s etc. So no rent is a life saver in this economy. With that being said I don’t necessarily need the highest paying job quite yet (willing to work my way up or gain helpful experience) though that would be ideal for anyone. I just want to be able to find something that fits with my personality/ needs and also doesn’t care the way I look. I know sometimes you have to do what u gotta do but I cannot take working somewhere I’m miserable at and I understand that is a privilege within itself so I’m just trying to use the time I do have to really find what I’m passionate about and not be scared to try new things.
I still want to go back to school to get my bachelors degree since it’s always been a dream of mine, but since I pretty much pay for everything out of pocket besides some degree of financial aide, I don’t want to just aimlessly transfer somewhere with no clue on what to study which has been my issues for some time. I feel like my interest haven’t changed much and neither have my dreams to further my education so I’ve pretty much been saying the same things since probably before high school and I still have no clue what exactly the direction is I should go. I would love to gain some first hang experience to know if getting my B.A. is even worth it for the field I want to go into or what major would benefit me the best.
I have many interests and ideas as to what I could possibly do but I feel like as much as I say them out loud no one really relates so I always feel alone or like there’s no possible job for me that I’ll feel happy in. I mean I think majority of people would rather not work and focus their lives on their hobbies and passions but unfortunately that’s not in the cards for most people and though I sometimes live in that dreamland that doesn’t change the fact that I’m extremely dedicated, hard-working and really want to make a difference in whatever field I end up in. So I guess I’ll leave a list of the things I’m interested in, in case anybody has some advice or input on any occupations I’ve listed or have experience in anything I’ve listed.
I guess another thing to mention is that I was recently applying to a lot of jobs in childcare and pretty much every interview I went to turn me down on the spot because of my appearance. Of course I hear the stories of looking less professional due to your tattoos, piercings, etc., which I never understand. I don’t even have a single tattoo or piercing, not even my ears, but I have bright pink hair and that has been such a downside for the interviewing processes, even some retail jobs like Box Lunch for example doesn’t accept colored hair when they’re literally a pop culture store and share the same company as Hot Topic. I don’t want to have to change my appearance for a job. I know it’s just hair but I was never able to express myself the way I wanted to and the amount of money and maintenance that goes with having colored hair would not be worth it to me to color black just to get a job. It would feel like I’m altering myself and changing something that makes me feel good about myself is unfair and already puts a bad taste in my mouth about the company because they are willing to look over my qualifications and work ethic due to one minor detail in my appearance. One of these jobs I even had two on the phone interviews that went amazing and was going to my final in person interview and was literally meeting with a family for a behavioral technician job and the first thing they (the company) told me was I would need to change my hair to even be considered and I had to eventually politely end the interview because they still wanted to me to meet a kid despite straight up telling me they will not hire me if I didn’t immediately change my hair… and I’d be working with a family, not even in a ‘ public setting.’ I would just love to be able to work in a community that embraces people for their differences for the way they express themselves, and encourages self expression.
Anyways, here are some of my interests and I’d be eternally grateful to hear any feedback! Maybe you’ve worked in some of these environments and have advice or horror stories, if you have similar interests to me let me know what kind of job you have because I’m sure I don’t even know the formal titles to half of these jobs, or even have other ideas that match my interests. TLDR: I have so many interests and have no idea where to go with my next steps in my career and schooling, and would love some advice based off of my interest and experience. My unnaturally colored hair gets me nowhere. My experience and interests are listed below.
My schooling/ experience so far: * 5 years of theatre under my belt (onstage/backstage/management) * Just graduated with my AA in Social & Behavioral Sciences (Random but was recommended to do so based on all of the same interest I told my counselor some odd years ago) * Most of my college classes were focused in sociology, psychology, and child development, which has been super interesting so I am willing to branch out from my interest because I did find a lot of interest in the classes I’ve taken previously. * Have worked in retail for four years; Pretty well received by people * A nanny to 4 kids (ages 4-16) for about 3.5 years as well
My personality: (not sure if this will help with knowing if I would be a good fit for any of the jobs listed )
i’m extremely bubbly and can have my extroverted moments, but I can also be introverted at times and when work needs to get done, I will figure out the best way to do it and get to work. I work pretty well with a team and always have ideas flowing and bouncing around, but I can also excel working on my own/have no issues being independent with my work. I don’t have a huge preference on a fast versus slow paced work environment. I would like something flexible, but I have no issue with getting into a routine. I feel like I am truly pretty flexible when it comes to my work environment, I just really want a place that I can express myself and be surrounded by a community of people similar to me. I love to be innovative and creative.

• Directing or any sort of behind the scenes job for movies and television (I love to write and create concepts, costuming, sets, music, casting)

• Possibly work with an acting company backstage (I don’t even know if that’s a job but possibly a permanent backstage role somewhere)
• Open my own curated thrift shop or a shop in general that is really creative or theme oriented
• Have a small bakery business or just a business in general, I love the idea of being able to run a company or brand that’s inclusive and creative
• I do love to bake and Decorate desserts
• Creative Director; photographer, videographer; I just love the thought of creating things and bringing concepts together, planning, etc.

• Wedding planning/party and event planning; again, I just like bringing things together I feel like I have an eye for aesthetics

I know sometimes you have to do what u gotta do but I cannot take working somewhere I’m miserable at and I understand that is a privilege within itself so I’m just trying to use the time I do have to really find what I’m passionate about and not be scared to try new things.
I still want to go back to school to get my bachelors degree since it’s always been a dream of mine, but since I pretty much pay for everything out of pocket besides some degree of financial aide, I don’t want to just aimlessly transfer somewhere with no clue on what to study which has been my issues for some time. I feel like my interest haven’t changed much and neither have my dreams to further my education so I’ve pretty much been saying the same things since probably before high school and I still have no clue what exactly the direction is I should go. I would love to gain some first hang experience to know if getting my B.A. is even worth it for the field I want to go into or what major would benefit me the best.
I have many interests and ideas as to what I could possibly do but I feel like as much as I say them out loud no one really relates so I always feel alone or like there’s no possible job for me that I’ll feel happy in. I mean I think majority of people would rather not work and focus their lives on their hobbies and passions but unfortunately that’s not in the cards for most people and though I sometimes live in that dreamland that doesn’t change the fact that I’m extremely dedicated, hard-working and really want to make a difference in whatever field I end up in. So I guess I’ll leave a list of the things I’m interested in, in case anybody has some advice or input on any occupations I’ve listed or have experience in anything I’ve listed.
I guess another thing to mention is that I was recently applying to a lot of jobs in childcare and pretty much every interview I went to turn me down on the spot because of my appearance. Of course I hear the stories of looking less professional due to your tattoos, piercings, etc., which I never understand. I don’t even have a single tattoo or piercing, not even my ears, but I have bright pink hair and that has been such a downside for the interviewing processes, even some retail jobs like Box Lunch for example doesn’t accept colored hair when they’re literally a pop culture store and share the same company as Hot Topic. I don’t want to have to change my appearance for a job. I know it’s just hair but I was never able to express myself the way I wanted to and the amount of money and maintenance that goes with having colored hair would not be worth it to me to color black just to get a job. It would feel like I’m altering myself and changing something that makes me feel good about myself is unfair and already puts a bad taste in my mouth about the company because they are willing to look over my qualifications and work ethic due to one minor detail in my appearance. One of these jobs I even had two on the phone interviews that went amazing and was going to my final in person interview and was literally meeting with a family for a behavioral technician job and the first thing they (the company) told me was I would need to change my hair to even be considered and I had to eventually politely end the interview because they still wanted to me to meet a kid despite straight up telling me they will not hire me if I didn’t immediately change my hair… and I’d be working with a family, not even in a ‘ public setting.’ I would just love to be able to work in a community that embraces people for their differences for the way they express themselves, and encourages self expression.
Anyways, here are some of my interests and I’d be eternally grateful to hear any feedback! Maybe you’ve worked in some of these environments and have advice or horror stories, if you have similar interests to me let me know what kind of job you have because I’m sure I don’t even know the formal titles to half of these jobs, or even have other ideas that match my interests. TLDR: I have so many interests and have no idea where to go with my next steps in my career and schooling, and would love some advice based off of my interest and experience. My unnaturally colored hair gets me nowhere. My experience and interests are listed below.
My schooling/ experience so far: * 5 years of theatre under my belt (onstage/backstage/management) * Just graduated with my AA in Social & Behavioral Sciences (Random but was recommended to do so based on all of the same interest I told my counselor some odd years ago) * Most of my college classes were focused in sociology, psychology, and child development, which has been super interesting so I am willing to branch out from my interest because I did find a lot of interest in the classes I’ve taken previously. * Have worked in retail for four years; Pretty well received by people * A nanny to 4 kids (ages 4-16) for about 3.5 years as well
My personality: (not sure if this will help with knowing if I would be a good fit for any of the jobs listed )
i’m extremely bubbly and can have my extroverted moments, but I can also be introverted at times and when work needs to get done, I will figure out the best way to do it and get to work. I work pretty well with a team and always have ideas flowing and bouncing around, but I can also excel working on my own/have no issues being independent with my work. I don’t have a huge preference on a fast versus slow paced work environment. I would like something flexible, but I have no issue with getting into a routine. I feel like I am truly pretty flexible when it comes to my work environment, I just really want a place that I can express myself and be surrounded by a community of people similar to me. I love to be innovative and creative.
My interests/ ideas: (sorry kinda random and jumps around)

• always wanted to be a nanny or travel nanny; to work with one specific family and grow with them
• Pre-k - 1st grade teacher; I find teaching younger kids really fulfilling, love crafts/ activities/planning, extremely patient
• Art teacher (i love ceramics, but pretty much any type of art would be so cool to incorporate creativity with teaching)
• Child advocate (possibly on movie and tv sets)
• Teacher on movie and television sets
• Directing or any sort of behind the scenes job for movies and television (I love to write and create concepts, costuming, sets, music, casting)
• Set designer for movies, television, or theater
• Costume designer for movies, television, or theater
• Possibly work with an acting company backstage (I don’t even know if that’s a job but possibly a permanent backstage role somewhere)
• Open my own curated thrift shop or a shop in general that is really creative or theme oriented
• Have a small bakery business or just a business in general, I love the idea of being able to run a company or brand that’s inclusive and creative
• I do love to bake and Decorate desserts
• Creative Director; photographer, videographer; I just love the thought of creating things and bringing concepts together, planning, etc.
• Magazine company?
• Wedding planning/party and event planning; again, I just like bringing things together I feel like I have an eye for aesthetics
• Something with marketing or managing

As you can see, most of my interest have to do with childcare and the arts, which are some of the lowest paying jobs/difficult fields to get into, but it’s what I most passionate about and what I can actually see myself being happy doing for a long time. i’m also not opposed to working in one certain field for a while and then branching out to something different or related further down the line, I just want to know what step I should take next so I’m not just floating around doing nothing and being/fill, I just want to know what step I should take next so I’m not just floating around doing nothing and being/feeling useless.
