DFAM is my first and (so far) only Moog. I chose it over the Mother 32 because I like drums, percussion, beats etc. Moog made a drum machine? And I can afford it? I was sold. Of course it wasn't exactly a drum machine, and never claimed to be one, but a percussion synthesizer,
And "making beats" on the DFAM wasn't as straightforward as on a conventional drum machine. Vast array of insane sounds, yes, but no midi and an unusual 8 step sequencer that doesnt reset. A lot of people just sample the sounds and sequence them elsewhere. Or Eurorack. Or the passive Family Affair expansion. Or boxes like MAFD and Thing. I didnt want to mess with these so my DFAM sat unused for a long time because every time I tried to incorporate it with other gear, I felt like a guy on a horse someone just slapped on the ass. Beat-wise its off to the races, hold on tight. It just kinda gallops off and never slows down to breathe. When you've got a nice chilled out vibe going with your other gear, bringing in DFAM feels like inviting your cousin with ADHD out for drinks. He's cool but man he is just too much.
Interfaces come in all shapes and sizes. Keys, pads, conductive touchplates, X-Y controllers, joysticks, D Beams etc. I've messed with a lot of grooveboxes and drum machines and never thought twice about the button to START/STOP the sequence. It's like PLAY/STOP/<>. Just boring old transport controls. Not usually an interface to be used in performance, other than to start the sequence. So then how DO you "play" the DFAM? It's for drums but there's no pads to hit or keys to play, nor is there an easy chaselight TRx0x type sequencer holding the beat down. Patching and knob tweaking can get you somewhere, but too much of it will take you to the outer rim, into the mouth of madness. How is it controlled? Why, the Little Red Button, of course. It's embarrassing how painfully obvious, how ridiculously easy it became to work around those 8 steps, once I learned to love the Little Red Button, and then use it. A lot. I use Advance and Trigger not to audition steps but for fills and breaks, and it has really unlocked my DFAM in a huge way. If you're anything like me, trying to rein in the power of the DFAM and get it under control with other gear and you have thus far resisted buying a box or expanding into modular just for this alone, try playing that Little Red Button. Run it, stop it, advance and trigger the f$%# out of it.

Why in a race (Vs or Co-Op) do you drift into every turn?
In the majority of races I'm in, I see so many drivers drifting through corners and easily overtake them with normal braking. I'm fairly sure I know the answer, but great googly moogly it's something I observe every single week and just had to ask.
