Mid May trip report: 2 weeks in Tokyo, Kyoto, Takamatsu, art islands, Beppu, Fukuoka

2024.06.09 17:06 Oxiclean4me Mid May trip report: 2 weeks in Tokyo, Kyoto, Takamatsu, art islands, Beppu, Fukuoka

Hey all, This subreddit was an indispensable resource in my planning my trip, so I wanted to return the favor with highlights from my trip and general experiences/tips. I spent 14 days (+ 3 travel days from/to the states), with 3 friends that joined me for different parts of the trip. Here's my itinerary with highlights/comments:
Number of nights per city: Tokyo(3), Kyoto(3), Takamatsu(3), Beppu(2), Fukuoka(4)
Day 1 - Tokyo (9.24 miles walked)
Day 2 - Tokyo (12.11 miles)
Day 3 - Tokyo Kyoto (9.66 miles)
Day 4 - Kyoto (11.68 miles)
Day 5 - Kyoto (12.00 miles)
Day 6 - Kyoto Himeji Takamatsu (8.22 miles)
Day 7 - Day trip to Naoshima island (9.71 miles)
Oh man, this island is jam packed with amazing art. We ran out of time to see everything, but with the aid of e-bikes we managed to check out the Art house project, Chichu art museum, Benesse museum. People who really want to see everything may want to budget 1.5-2 days for this island. This was also one of my favorite days of the trip. Really unique art work in a beautiful setting.
Day 8 - Day trip to Teshima island (12.07 miles).
If you are going on a Monday, beware: most of the museums on Naoshima are closed so everyone is hitting up Teshima.... our ferry got sold out while we were waiting in line, forcing us to take an alternative route by detouring to a different island first. By the time we got to Teshima, most of the e-bike rental stores were out of stock. Despite those hang-ups, we were able to see the Teshima art museum, Teshima Yoko House, and ride around part of the island. We were worried about the return ferry getting sold out so we staked out the office for like a solid hour before the ticket counter opened. Although we didn't have a full day, we felt pretty content with what we saw/what the island had to offer.
Day 9 - Takamatsu Beppu (5.91 miles*)
*hey, we spent like 4.5 hours on trains that day
Day 10 - Day trip to the Kunisaki peninsula (6.96 miles)
Day 11 - Beppu Fukuoka road trip (7.75 miles)
Day 12 - Fukuoka (11.12 miles)
Day 13 - Fukuoka (10.95 miles)
Day 14 - Fukuoka (11.06 miles)

Saturn 4K LEDs Driver issue experience
Hi all!
I want to share my experience with a problem on the Saturn 4K printer, just to share some info
So, the LCD isn't works as you can see in the video I open the printer and I try to turn on and... Nothing So I disconnect the Z axis and the LEDs driver and it turn on again! After I check the LEDs board, I find out that one of the mosfet is dead (see pictures in comment)
So, I sent an email to Elegoo and ask them if the sell the board and where can I buy it Now I'm waiting for an answer from them, but I want to share my experience and, if somebody will have the same problem, he/she will have this post when he/she will search for his/her issue!

2024.06.09 03:39 StarsofGarnet Epson XP-970 - out of paper, but it's not

A couple of days ago, my Epson XP-970 started giving me an error message saying that there was no paper and that I needed to load some. There was paper in the tray. It's the same type of regular paper I've used since I first got the printer 2 months ago (literally 2 months to the day). I had been printing just fine 5 minutes prior, in fact. One job finished, and a few minutes later, we tried printing again, and it just won't work. It starts to act like it's printing, then bam, an error that it's out of paper.
I've followed the troubleshooting steps: make sure there's paper, fan it out, try fewer sheets, take out the paper and try replacing it, run the paper guide cleaner steps, etc. I even tried using a piece of photo paper, just in case; but no, I had the same problem. ONE TIME, it grabbed a piece of paper and printed... very, very poorly. All the lines were doubled up, warped, out of place, and then immediately started saying out of paper again. If I try to run any maintenance programs, it does the same thing (unless it pulls from the back, like the paper guide cleaner).
I've checked drivers, firmware... I'm at a loss. I use this printer for my business, I can't be without it for weeks so sending it in for warranty is a nightmare of an option. I have a vendor fair coming up in 2 weeks and I need to print my labels ASAP. There has to be a way to fix this... right?

2024.06.09 02:24 MischieviousWind Printer won’t print or copy

Brother MFC-L2740DW
Printer suddenly stopped working. It began as a “printer busy” error message on my phone when I would send a task. This kept up for several days. Also the printer would sometimes freeze and when I tried to turn it off at the button, there would be no response, or if a button did respond it would be with beeps, so would have to unplug.
So today I unplugged, restarted, set time and date, made sure network was set up correctly, made sure no paper was stuck, filled paper tray, checked toner, everything is fine. Next I tried printing and copying from the printer itself and I get these beeps. I downloaded the brother drivers on a PC hoping they would recognize the problem, but the printer isn’t communicating with it. When I send a print job, the printer doesn’t even come out of sleep mode.
Anyone else have a clue as to what’s going on?

2024.06.09 01:41 azskalt97 Problems with Brother Printer after SSD Upgrade and Windows 11 on MSI GF63

Hi everyone, I need your help :(
I have an **MSI GF63 laptop** that worked perfectly when it was new. Over time, and with limited disk space (256 GB), I decided to upgrade and got a new SSD.
I tried using the Recovery from the original installation, but the system never booted. (I was later told that changing the boot mode to UEFI or Legacy would have fixed it, but by then it was too late and the recovery had been deleted). So, I did a clean install of **Windows 11**, using drivers from the MSI website and Dragon Center. (I haven't used third-party drivers).
After that, the PC worked normally, though I suspect some input lag in **HW: Unleashed** (not sure if it's related). However, I encountered a problem: my **Brother printer** stopped working. I can't print or scan; Wi-Fi is impossible and the scanner fails a lot when connected by cable.
I am using the updated programs from Brother. At first, I thought it was an issue with my new internet, but I found out that printing by cable and Wi-Fi on my **Lenovo Legion Go**, **Surface Pro**, and my family's **Huawei laptop** works fine. The only one that fails is my MSI laptop.
Additionally, I have several other devices like cameras, a 3D printer, USB microphones, and gamepads, all of which work perfectly. The Brother printer is the only device that I can't use.
I contacted MSI about getting a recovery since I'm a teacher and the printer is essential for my work. They said there's no download link and that I have to pay for a USB with the files... which wouldn't be much if I didn't live outside the US.
For now, I've been working from the Lenovo Legion Go, but it seems ridiculous that I can't use the MSI laptop for this.
I don't have any antivirus or firewall configured other than default Windows Defender.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

2024.06.09 00:52 Calm_Guidance_2853 Does "driver compatibility issues" on the new Elite chips mean no external mic and webcam support?

What's preventing hardware makers from making drivers for the new ARM chips? Are they harder to do than making apps ARM native? And doesn't Microsoft have generic drivers for stuff like mics, webcams, printers etc?

2024.06.08 23:35 DIY_Forever Matched set update.

Matched set update.
Close up of the new fan shroud around the Spider V3 hotend.
Got the 3DTouch mounted. Plenty of room to route the wiring away from the hotend.
Clean space and filament efficient design. Now I just need to get that mainboard swapped and firmware stabbed in and I should be good to go.
So the new to me second hand G32 printer is here, and assembly and configuration excluding the dual Z is completed. Ran PID tuning on both the hot end and bed, trammed the bed, spent way too long tramming the bed but got it smooth up level, ran an absolutely gorgeous auto mesh, and got the extruder to do its thing. Slammed Mirscoc in it and tried my hand at a custom splash screen. Apparently I did something wrong but will go back and fix that later. Running a print job now, had a hiccup when I printed the display frame so printing a new one. Should be a fast and easy test of the setup.
The original Aquila is being checked and sadly, it is a sick puppy. The new cables are here and it's not the cabling. Mainboard / driver is definately bad. I think I am going to get new to me Aquila at 100% before I rip the innards out of my original. Still need to get some liquid electrical tape anyway.
So for those keeping score.
Original has PEI build sheet, 3D Touch, and Spider V3 hot end, bed handle, vertical screen bracket, display frame, WinSinn LED fans in the hot end and mainbaord housing, Aluminum leveling knobs with heavy duty springs, Ender 3 custom fan shroud, Ender 3 style BLTouch mount, metal extruder direct drive, dual gear extruder, and dual Z. Pending installs are the slot covers, and the 4.2.7 mainboard. Slot covers are being printed on the new to me Aquila as I type...
New to me Aquila has. There is a possibility if not a likelihood I am going to do the 4.2.7 board in this one as well, again to make them match.
The new to me and seemingly working, or at least in testing Aquila mod platform...

2024.06.08 22:54 cidra_ Cheapest, lowest power device to share Brother HL-1110 printer in local network

Title says it all. I have this printer but no PC to connect it to. I do have a Linux laptop, a Windows laptop and a bunch of Android devices. How can I share the printer across the local network? As far as I'm concerned there are no official ARM drivers for this printer so x86 is highly preferred, but otherwise I could risk with the community made ARM portings.

2024.06.08 20:47 ChortleBog Network Printer shows offline until I bounce the laptop off/on the wifi

I have a brother MFC-L2700DW laser printer on my network. From time to time, it appears "offline" to a laptop (windows) until the LAPTOP itself is disconnected/reconnected to the wifi.. then it appears again. All during that time, other machines on the same wifi are able to print just fine. This isn't exclusive to one laptop, it just seemingly randomly affects different machines at different times.
The printer is set up for network printing not "wifi printing" (where you have to be on the exact same SSID wifi for it to work). Although to take that problem out of the running, I've made sure the one currently experiencing it is on the exact same SSID.
Has anyone seen anything like this? I've done the obvious steps (reinstall drivers on the pc, reset the printer, bounce the router, etc..)

2024.06.08 20:31 skoops7 Scaling/ margin issues

I have a Brother monochrome laser printer model# DCP-L2550DW and I am having trouble with printing things accurately. The first and second picture are from the same pattern/ shop and the third picture is from a different pattern/ shop. I am running into the exact same problem, no matter what it is I’m trying to print. I have printed patterns before from an HP printer that I used to have but I wanted to upgrade to this one. I have went into every setting I could possibly think of including: the computer’s device and printer settings, driver settings, and the actual printer’s settings. I’ve also made sure that I was printing with the recommended margins and scaling in the pattern instructions (which has always worked with other printers), but nothing has changed and everything I print comes out very off. Has anyone had this problem or knows how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you 😊

2024.06.08 14:25 MineralAqua Aquila (N32) Mainboard/stepper driver fried ?

I own two "normal" Aquilas N32 (the first ones, no X1/X2 etc), upgraded with eg. new BROZZL heatbreak, BLTouch and Orbiter 2.0 (with adjusted Vref=1.2V, steps/mm etc.) and AlexUI.
For the Orbiters I edited AlexUI-firmware provided on GitHub. Both Aquilas are virtually the same.
Both printers printed beautifully with these mods, several spools of PLA, even a little ABS and ASA, and one of them quite a lot PETG (printed the modules of a hydroponic tower and netpots with PETG which takes up to one day, in case of the netpots with plenty of retractions) .
Well, exactly the latter is now showing strange behaviours: the extruder stopped mid print, sometimes it extruded normally till end of print, sometimes it stopped near end of print, sometimes after a few minutes, and lately it doesnt extrude at all when printing gcode. The extruder wont take one spin. No clicking. And no clogging, I can easily push the filament by hand. Hotend- and bed-temperature kept normal, and X/Y/Z behaved like the extruder was working, printing "in air".
But, when changing filament via the display, it retracts and extrudes the filament totally normal.
In other words, I can happily change filaments, but it won´t print gcode any more.
The exact same gcode via SD-card prints totally normal on the other Aquila.
All fans are running. Also set all settings to default and calibrated everything again (z-offset, PID, steps/mm etc)
I suspect I damaged the E0-Stepper driver, since I printed PETG with 70°C bed and 240-250°C hotend for close to 20h each in a row.
Did I miss anything ?
Is there any remedy for my problem ? New board ? Which one ? Trashcan?
Thanks in advance,
Andy

2024.06.08 09:27 Federal-Teaching1197 THERMAL PRINTER NOT WORKING PROPERLY, NEED HELP.

My Milestone thermal printer Model MHT-L1081 is not working properly. I have windows for my laptop. It worked just fine when I got it... I tried to switch to smaller labels and that's when it went on a hiatus. I'm trying to just go back to printing my 4" × 6" labels and I've done the following to troubleshoot..
  1. Made sure connection cable from the laptop to the thermal printer itself is connected properly.
  2. Power supply is fine.
  3. I installed a new printer driver and deleted all traces of the old one.. (at least I'm pretty sure I have, unless it's picking it up somewhere else on my laptop)
  4. I had my laptop delete the printer itself and then added it again to my devices.
  5. I've went and changed the custom sizing to 4x6 inches to match paper.. (Is there a density problem? Or anything else I need to adjust? I am not sure..)
  6. The paper is in there lined up perfect within the printer.
  7. Cleaned the thermal roller with rubbing alcohol .
  8. Set thermal printer to default.
All these above are not helping... Here's what the printer is doing.... When I have a Test print go to it... it will print and just fine and print in the middle area too with the printers info, but the info transfers a little light... but when I go and print my test UPS label (pic above) it only prints the edges (upper label info and lower label info.. ) but as it's supposed to print the address and return info on it within the middle and it wont do it. The printer prints tbe 1st part, sucks the label back in, and on that pass does nothing and spits it back out, blank...
It makes no sense... Does anyone have any ideas on how I can rectify this problem? I'm not tech savvy, so pretty please dumb it down as best you can lol... thank you so much in advance... I'm about to just go buy another printer because I'm on a deadline and wasting serious time.. Thanks again!!!!

2024.06.08 08:50 TheITBrosCom Configuring printers for network

In our daily tasks, we often need to configure printers for network use. To help you manage your organization's printers with ease, we've compiled a list of articles that offer simple and effective solutions:
Allow non-administrators to install printer drivers
In Windows environments, non-admin users typically face restrictions when attempting to install printer drivers due to insufficient privileges. By default, installing a driver requires local administrator permissions, creating a dependency on IT support for adding new printers. However, this inconvenience can be mitigated by configuring Group Policies (GPO) to enable non-admin users to install printer drivers without needing elevated privileges.

How to deploy printers to users or computers via Group Policy
Group Policy Preferences (GPP) provide a streamlined method for automating the connection of shared network printers to domain users. This guide outlines the steps to deploy printers to users' computers using Group Policy Objects (GPO) within an Active Directory environment. By leveraging GPO, administrators can ensure the automatic installation of printer drivers and the seamless availability of network printers to users, enhancing efficiency and reducing manual configuration efforts.

I spent $60 I didn't really have spare on this fucking thing to try and get through some paperwork I need to do and so far 0/10.

🔗HP External USB DVD Writer for Laptops - Portable and Fast

Alright, so I recently got myself one of these HP External DVD Writers and let me tell you, it's a real game-changer. I was skeptical at first about how well it would work, especially since I've had some not-so-great experiences with other computer peripherals in the past. But boy, was I pleasantly surprised!
First things first, this little device is super easy to use. All you gotta do is connect it to your computer via USB, and voila! You're all set. It's like having your very own DVD/CD player right on your desk or wherever you put your laptop.
One of the best things about this product is its portability. I mostly use it on my HP Laptop, but occasionally, I also plug it into my old desktop - it works seamlessly with both. Plus, it doesn't require any additional power source, which makes it even more convenient to carry around.
The speed is pretty decent too. While it may not be the fastest DVD writer out there, it gets the job done without any hiccups. And let's not forget the noise level - it's super quiet! I can play a DVD or burn a CD without disturbing anyone around me.
Now, I did encounter a minor issue regarding compatibility with some of my older DVDs. There were a few cases where the device struggled to read the discs properly. However, I quickly discovered that cleaning up the DVDs with a soft cloth did the trick, and now everything works perfectly fine.
Overall, I'm really happy with this HP External DVD Writer. It's easy to use, portable, and does exactly what it's supposed to do - write DVDs and CDs! I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and affordable solution for their disc burning needs. So go ahead, give it a try; I bet you won't be disappointed!

🔗LG USB CD/DVD External Optical Drive - Slim Portable

I recently got my hands on the LG external DVD writer, and I must say, it's been quite a game-changer for me. No more worrying about losing or damaging my old DVDs, as this little device has made it incredibly easy to store and access my data.
First off, the portability of this DVD writer is just fantastic. It's small and light enough to throw in my bag, making it perfect for work trips or watching movies on the go. And the fact that it supports M-DISC formats means I can store important data securely for years to come.
Another feature that really impressed me was the silent play technology. Unlike some other DVD writers that I've tried in the past, this one is surprisingly quiet. As someone who's always on the move, it's a huge plus to have a DVD writer that doesn't make any noise while I'm working or watching a movie.
That being said, there's one downside to this DVD writer. I noticed that it tends to struggle with stickered discs, which can be frustrating at times. However, I still think the pros far outweigh the cons, making this an excellent choice for anyone in need of a reliable and affordable external DVD writer.

🔗External USB 3.0 CD/DVD Combo Burner for Laptop

https://preview.redd.it/k8c0b9b4o95d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=266c721ab1cbbd3a4de9de848c9598010e1f8c8d
In my pursuit of finding the perfect external DVD drive for my laptop, I came across the Amicool USB 3.0 Type-C CD DVD +/-RW Optical Drive. As an avid DVD lover who frequently needs to transfer data on-the-go, I found this little device to be a life-saver. The USB interface allows for seamless attachment to my laptop, while its lightweight and shock-resistant design ensures that it withstands even the toughest travel conditions.
One of the standout features of this external DVD drive is its ability to provide high data read and write speeds, making data transmission a breeze. Its built-in USB cable ensures that there are no cords to tangle or lose when on the go. Additionally, I appreciate the fact that it can be powered solely by USB 3.0 ports or USB-C ports, eliminating the need for an additional power source.
While both reviewers highly praised the drive's speed and performance, one user did mention that the cord could be longer. As someone who frequently uses this drive, I can attest that while the cord is short, it's not a deal-breaker for me, and it still gets the job done efficiently.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend this external DVD drive to anyone in search of a reliable, fast, and portable solution for their DVD needs. Its unique combination of advanced features and sleek design make it a must-have for technophiles on-the-go.
