2024.05.21 06:38 Meijermk Advice on high mileage 17 F150 purchase

Advice on 2017 Ecoboost purchase
A local municipality in my area is auctioning a 2017 F150 3.5L Ecoboost XLT supercab (Here’s the listing: https://www.govdeals.com/asset/44/16769)
The truck has 370,000km (approx 230,000 miles) with it being serviced every 7,000km. Most of these being highway miles. It has 6700 engine hours, 1500 of them being idle. The exterior of the truck looks to be in good condition. The interior has some wear from use but is overall good. The suspension, frame, brakes, and body are all in good condition with next to no rust.
When I test drove it, it felt on par with a 2020 F150 I’ve driven. The responsiveness, acceleration, brakes, electrical, shifting, 4x4, all felt good. Overall it felt good to drive and didn’t give me any issues.
Although good things don’t come without a catch. Here’s some of the issues (or what I think are issues) that I noticed. The minor ones being listed first:
1) The muffler was leaking a black liquid, which I presume was condensation and carbon, but I thought I’d note it.
2) The engine oil was running slightly hotter than average, nothing of concern, and I was pushing it a bit.
3) When coming to a stop, the RPMs would drop down, but the rad fan would stay noticeably reved up for a few seconds before dropping down.
4) The engine tended to have a rough low idle where it would drop down RPMs, have a slight stutter, then rev up slightly. This may have correlation to #5 which is the most concerning.
Now to the most concerning issue:
5) When at idle the engine sounded as if it was a diesel (I’ll link a clip). From the research I’ve done this sound is fairly common with this engine having to do with the cam phasers starting to fail. I didn’t noticed the related startup rattle that people report, but I never got the chance to cold start it. I’ve read that this issue can go unresolved and cause no issues, people having driven them for another 100k. But then others say it can lead to engine failure and to replace it ASAP. It was mentioned to me by a secondary source that the truck recently got quoted for 7k worth of engine repairs, but I haven’t been able to confirm this yet.
I’m hoping that someone could provide some input into if this would be a worth while purchase, or one that would cost me in the future. I love how this truck drove and it definitely fits my lifestyle, I just don’t want it to cause havoc. If I were to get it, I intend to maintain it well and not bag it around.
Thanks

I know many people on this forum have been looking for quality animatronics for years and thought I’d mention an amazing company. 2024.04.06 21:57 -Happy-Human- Missing mail? Check GovDeals.com — They may be selling your stuff

This may be old news to some, but it’s brand new to me so thought I’d share.
USPS lost my $2k Jaegar-LeCoultre Clock…still haven’t recovered / returned it.
*Turns out our missing, unclaimed or confiscated items may be up for sale or auction on www.govdeals.com by USPS, other gov. agencies, contractors and individuals *
I wish I would have done better research sooner, but in light of my ongoing 131 day saga to find my $2k clock, with no end in sight I’m hoping this will help someone who’s also on the struggle bus with USPS to locate your stuff.
If anyone knows of any other site or ways they may be selling and profiting, PLEASE SHARE! It would be greatly appreciated!!

2024.03.04 16:34 blockofdynamite [O] Purdue is selling its datacenter pods on govdeals. Not practical here, just for laughs.

https://www.govdeals.com/asset/3466/3844
https://www.govdeals.com/asset/3467/3844
These were used to house a couple HPC clusters when there wasn't enough space in the real datacenter. The terms of removal are completely impractical (only 2 weeks given to coordinate a crane pickup?) but figured people here could get some enjoyment from looking at them. They are kinda neat, but it's annoying to have to exit and go around the backside of the pod to access the rear of the servers.

2024.02.13 17:17 david-saint-hubbins A few 2012/13 fleet Impalas up for auction by local govt., mileage 120-140k. Can't get there to inspect them beforehand myself. Submit a bid or no?

Tulare County, CA currently has 3 Impalas up for auction.
I live a couple hundred miles away so I can't get up there to inspect them. I'm just looking for a beater car for occasional road trips. Let's say I could get one of them for about $3k, if it needs another $1k of work, that's fine.
Worth it, or is this Bad Idea Jeans?

2024.02.05 14:55 sjsjsjhaha POS? Or worthwhile?

Hello, I’m looking at purchasing a car from this government agency I’ve attached the link below. I need a daily driver that can last a long time we’ll over 100k miles. This car seems like it will fall in my price range however I am not car savy and cannot end up with a POS vehicle. The second slide has a video of the engine I cannot tell it it’s ticking it sounds as a car normally should. Does anyone have any experience buying from this site or from the state of Ohio department of administrative service? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
