2024.05.15 15:29 SimonCharles Adding a texture on top of a material

How would you go about adding a decal to a sphere which already has its own material with roughness, normal etc. textures? Say I have a ball with a leather texture and I want a symbol "painted" onto it without affecting the underlying material, how is this best done?
Most tutorials I've tried don't really do what I want and the texture just spreads around the ball because of tiling and does not give me the flexibility to just place one symbol wherever I want on top of the existing ball. Also just modifying the texture in photoshop does not seem viable here since it's repeated around the ball and will thus also repeat the symbol all over it. Any way to just stamp a certain symbol wherever and whatever size I want on the ball? I feel like the solution should be fairly simple but I can't think of a convenient way.

2024.05.15 05:51 yesterdaysnoodles Cleaning up

How do you parent an ADHDer to clean up after themselves? My parents failed me. Habits didnt stick when I was young. However, I learned from having to do everything on my own as a young adult. I understand that me NOT pitching in by doing the BARE minimum for years as a child also contributed to my mom’s chronic ADHD burnout.
But now I’m the mom. Classic irony. And I have an ADHD son. And I still have no tools to get him to actually DO the thing. He makes constant messes and will NOT clean them up. Total melt down if I ask him to tidy up his room (even when I offer to sit and do it with him, because my parents just yelled at me to DO IT, I try to do it WITH him to model the way to organize and body double). THIS STILL ISNT EFFECTIVE WITH HIM! Im already minimalistic because, less to clean, but I can’t take away EVERY toy can I? Ex. Open ended toys, like magna tiles or wooden blocks. He can build a masterpiece and hyperfocus for hours. Yet cannot put all the pieces away without a melt down. My personal pet peeve is not cleaning up food mess, because I don’t want mice. And I’m burnt out.
I have tried and failed at Incentivizing with sticker charts, adventures, even basic ones I don’t even agree with like sugar and even screen time. Doesn’t work or will not stick on a daily basis even if rotated.
Anyway, fellow ADHD patents with ADHD kiddos, how do you not live in chaos, filth and squalor??? My brain cannot take the visual clutter and he loves making everything explode. He is 5.5. As a young child he ALWAYS HELPED, cause it was fun to do big kid stuff. It’s like as soon as he learned how the novelty wore off and he won’t do it.

2024.05.15 04:05 usernamelikewhoishe Which cordless stick vacuum should I buy from Costco (US)?

.
Price: Under $400 but tempted by higher-priced things. I'd like to spend as little as possible if there aren't huge differences between features.
Flooring: Wood and tile. No carpet. somewhere between 600-900 sq. ft, I don't remember.
Basically, I know the general consensus is that stick vacuums are garbage and won't last, but I'm looking for one anyway. I know they don't last the longest and aren't the strongest, but I would like a stick vacuum because the stairs & entryway to my apartment don't have any outlets and heavier+corded vacuums are too much to maneuver. I would also really like a vac that is convertible to a hand vac. I want to buy from Costco because of the return policy.
Here's what I have in my Costco cart. Which of the following would you recommend/choose?:
Extra stuff if you feel like reading it:
I live in a 1bd apartment, currently no pets. I have hardwood floors in my bedroom, living/dining room, hallways and stairs. Tile floor in kitchen, bathroom and entryway. I only have bathmats, no rugs, though I did buy a 4x6 wool one for my living room which I never put down. I have lots of allergies and should probably avoid direct contact with the dust bin as much as possible. I have an air purifier and don't wear shoes in my house but, obviously, things still get dusty and some dirt, especially because the floors are very old and have some gaps in them. I live on a very busy street and do get some street pollution coming inside if I leave the windows open.
I previously had these vacs and returned them when they failed on me:
Thank you.
EDIT: Tineco isn't actually in stock, so it's no longer in my cart.

Best trowel shape for knockdown?
I’m going to follow Pavlo Starykov’s article on using epoxy adhesive (among other things) for a marble tile shower on a membrane pan. In his linked video he suggests using the Superiorbilt premium notch trowel (made by Custom) and then knocking down the ridges before laying the tile.
I can’t find that trowel anywhere. Is the trowel shape really going to make that big of a difference when doing the knockdown? If not, then I’m inclined to just stick with a standard U shaped trowel. What do you think?

2024.05.15 00:43 jdsfighter Getting foundation work done starting 6/3. We were told to remove all our flooring from every area they will be working. What all tools do I need? We intend on finishing the concrete slab after they're done with the foam injections as well

We unfortunately need to have foundation work done on our home in a couple weeks. They'll be putting in a couple dozen piers and foam under the slab. We were given a pretty large checklist of things we need to take care of before they get their work started on 6/3.
One of the biggest hurdles I'm seeing is removing all our flooring from the areas where they'll be injecting foam. My house has a variety of different flooring: natural stone entryway (covered in epoxy starting to flake), peel & stick linoleum planks in the dining room, ceramic tile in the main bathroom, click and lock luxury vinyl plank in our daughter's room (what we're going to eventually put all throughout the house), and carpet in the remaining areas.
I'm about to start undertaking the task of removing all the flooring throughout the house and to start cleaning up and finishing the concrete. We intend on replacing all the removed flooring with luxury vinyl plank (several animals and a toddler), but the price is a touch steep for the entire house while we're undergoing these major repairs.
What tools, products, etc. should I purchase and/or rent to make this job as easy as possible? We will likely be living with bare concrete floors for a month or two.

2024.05.15 00:08 Mr_D_Stitch Relatively Cheap & Easy Ways to Do Bathroom Walls

Hello everyone, I am at my wits end on my bathroom. I replaced the lighting & exhaust fan & had professionals replace my tub/showesurround, toilet, & sink leaving just the walls & floor. The walls are in real bad shape. I tried painting over the shit walls & got a shit paint job. So I repaired all the dents, dings, & holes but I can’t sand them flat enough to blend them without basically sanding the patches off. I tried peel & stick wallpaper & it unstuck after a single shower.
I’m planning on doing peel & stick vinyl tiles up to 60 inches from the floor so I need to figure out what to do with the rest of the wall. I just need a somewhat decent solution that will last for 5-8 years when I have enough money to pay a professional enough to tear it down to the studs & replace the crappy walls.
I’ve tried Google searches & they lead me to everything that hasn’t worked so far. I appreciate any advice or guidance I can get from a practical standpoint, thank you!

2024.05.14 20:48 pr0f13n Box's Physical Value

Bought Key 01 and Box 01, I avoided checking this subreddit before I received mines and was kind of disappointed, however what made me more disappointed was just now finding out there's 5 boxes ???
Anyways, for those who don't have the box its pretty much made of some sort of aluminum and could probably be easily destroyed with only a few hammer swings. The key slot feels rather loose and honestly could be picked pretty easily or even other methods could defeat the lock. I'm gonna assume they ordered a ton of regular lockboxes (each would manufacture for like 2-5$) wholesale from some kind of manufacture (china), gave them all the red coat and decals. The decals however do feel well printed onto the box, so for utility usage this could definitely store any other smaller MSCHF items lying around with the key inserted (You can easily pull out and place back the foam) , however I wouldn't lock anything valuable in it as it seems to be defeated pretty easily especially if you just strike the lock part in with a screwdriver, and it sticks out in any room.
Will I buy any more Boxes? really depends on if theres any hint about the endgoal since this could very easily just be boxes and nothing more, which 1 is cool but why would anyone need 5 of them.
TL;DR: Box looks cool on a shelf but functionally shouldn't lock anything in it.
Feel free to correct me if these were created domestically

2024.05.14 20:36 LordXamon Mod guide for vanilla players, now updated for 1.5 [draft]

Let me share my 3000h of modded wisdom with you, my fellow vanilla comrades. My attempt here is to provide you with as many as possible improvements to the base game while keeping the style, balance, and content as vanilla as possible. As they say, when it works the best is when you don't realize it is there. I guarantee you that after playing a few dozen hours with these, you will no longer be able to tell what's vanilla and what's not.
I decided to cut my recommendations onto different types of lists, so it's easier for you. The most purists players can stick with QoL only. Or, even if you're a psychopath purist who doesn't any QoL improvement, you can still use the performance list.
Please, note that a lot of these mods come with options, to tune up your experience. It is recommended you give them a look.

2024.05.14 20:17 Eclipsense Adhesive peel and stick tiles on OSB

The title really explains it for the most part, I currently have OSB subfloors but didn’t know that till after buying the flooring. Was just going to stick over that but I’ve had a few people tell me it won’t stick well to that, and other say just to paint over the OSB or yes a sealer of sorts. What is everyone’s thoughts on this? Should I get the sealer? Or should I get different flooring?

2024.05.14 19:59 thread-chicken-champ Teach me how to use a canister vac!

Hi vacuum experts! I'm moving to an all hardwood, LVP, and tile home in a few weeks and will only have one or two area rugs to vacuum. I currently have an upright that I would like to get rid of in favor of a vacuum that is better equipped for wood floors. I'm envisioning my new vacuum will, essentially, be an expensive, fancy broom and used to pick up dust and small debris as needed during the week and before mopping weekly. Upholstery tool included or able to purchase separate is a must for furniture vacuuming. I would like to stay under $250 (so please don't recommend Miele, Sebo, Henry, etc...I already know ya'll love them but I don't currently see the need to spend that much on a vacuum when I don't have shedding pets or carpeting). I'm located in the US so brands readily available in the US, please.
In the last 24 hours that I've been perusing this sub I have been convinced to go from cordless to corded stick and now considering a canister vac....but seems like it would be an adjustment after using an upright for so long and requires some "strategy" to get used to dragging the canister behind me. Teach me how to use a canister vac and convince me it's the way to go! Literally, teach me your canister vacuum ways! Does the canister actually roll around behind you or do you manually pick it up and move it?
I have my eye on the Simplicity Jill (if I go this route I will likely purchase the Wessel Works TK286 for the area rugs) so any specific feedback on that specific vacuum is appreciated!
Thank you in advance :)

2024.05.14 16:12 krisDaWiz3666 Do you have to primer to put on stick on vinyl tiles over stick on vinyl tiles?

Thinking of adding stick on tiles to my dining room kitchen section of my apartment. There are ugly vinyl ones in place already, but I'm afraid those old ones might be old asbestos stick ons, ain't trying to lift them up, so do I have to prime before putting new stick on tiles on stick on tiles?

2024.05.14 15:14 c0mbucha Farming related decoration item IDEAS

So I saw the devs asked for ideas for decoration items.
Which must be pretty hard to come up with new stuff since Ft1 had so many already.
So here in this (real life) video is some awesome stuff in my opinion, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnF5Anlf8Ss
Like a fish feeder (even just cosmetic) with some effect maybe in the water (if there is fish)
Also Yurts and Container homes would be great as many people do now in Portugal and other places.
Some vegetation as decorative items? Like scrubs and even weed-type like fields, water plants, giant 4x4 old ancient trees (like olive, https://www.surinenglish.com/lifestyle/food-drink/malagas-extra-virgin-20220218092148-ntvo.html ) and GIGANTIC palm trees - maybe even 2x2 and 3x3 trees , just like more huge old wood logs and rotten tree stumps just for decoration
Chicken tractors (used to move chicken around on grass fields (great for decoration))
Some stuff from organic/regenerative farming like different soil types with mulch on it (woodchips, straw, could even be a gameplay element where players could put a new item they pick up from a compost bin over crops?).
Signs maybe even with some text elements like "Please plant " here where * is the crop icon you choose (maybe there is other text elements that would be useful like "Welcome to *your farm name), and huge 6-9 tile gates that have players farm name on them?
Worm bin (used in farming), compost, electricity poles (just for decoration), wind-farm/solar decoration, items for like a "tree-school" (like little pots with different crops/flowers/tiny plants and stacks of pots both vertically and horizontally).
Bonsai trees.
Also compost again, like giant stacks of mud/compost (maybe with flies over it and a buzzing sound)/woodchip piles just for decoration purposes
Trashcans
Wheelbarrows (always used on a farm). I think these could have so many uses even acting as a planter, which would look so cool with the player being able to put different crops in it just as with raised beds/garden containers/old truck wheels)
Also different types/variations of sprinklers maybe, like I love these giant grass fields where a sprinkler just shoots water all around, maybe this would be possible and look great on our farms even just as decoration? Plus eventually a watering effect
(even)Tall(er) grass, Wild Flower field soil type (possibly with little bonus effect for bees) or just in general different looks to the default plot (examples https://www.bostonseeds.com/products/wildflowers-seed/wildflower-seed-mixtures-20/ or just do google image search for bee field seeds)
Insect hotels https://www.urbanrevolution.com.au/products/small-insect-hotels
Raised garden beds (planters) out of wood, metal, recycled container, old truck wheels...
Ideas for trees: Cork Oak (where is an animation of harvesting the bark from the tree and the color of the wood changes)
Pomegranate bushes and trees (they can be grown in both ways) and theres dark purple, yellow, red pomegranate in general i think more bushes and berry hedges would be great as they are more convienent to farm than large trees (and you have brought a lot already in the first EA which is awesome!!). Generally i think it would be great if they often looked more unique like the Prickly Pear Cactus over just a round "bush").
Generally more unique looking fruit trees would be great (I understand its probably a lot more work)
Actually for tree ideas you might want to look at this small youtuber who goes around the world identifying rare fruit trees https://www.youtube.com/@allthefruit there is some places in the world where people just are super creative and have such an amazing variety.
Some worker tools, rubber boots on the ground (used a lot in some countries as costa rica), small 1 tile poly tunnels that connect (good for decoration next to fields), watering cans, irrigation lines, rainwater collectors (like barrels with water in them, IBC containers), garden hoes (maybe as fence type?)
(Also just having an idea for a feature maybe some day, where you could create a guided tractor tour if people click it, the tractor will keep following a certain path around the farm (kinda like the train of course, but maybe at the same time watering/plowing fields just by people "activating it" so following a line maybe set up with a tile seperatofence type of item?)
Rollercoaster instead of train going all over your farm (haha kinda meant as a joke but would surely be fun), same as some dinosaurs, elephants and other more "exotic" animals.
Boxes/crates of all the different/some mixed crops/fruit. Wheelbarrows and boxes with produce/plants/fruit/crops in them so you can make your farm look more like a production site.
Starlink satellite, different camper vans, more bonfires
Maybe (some day?) an "ancient tractor", or even like a cow/horse/donkey carriage acting like a tractor. This could be fun!
Different SMALL one tile water fountains (used often in backyard gardening), different Water Pumps.
More varieties of bird feeders. Maybe a tree that has a squirrel on it.
Some more varied wooden benches, chairs, tables as often used in garden areas around the world. Maybe with some garden pots on them.
Maybe some pools and more deluxe items like parasols, sunbeds/deckchairs, sunchairs, so people can decorate a special garden at the player house as in a lounge area (as the farmhands do all the "work" lol)
Also maybe for more posh gardens some white gravel type of soil with some green scrubs in them.
Shovels and other tools sticking in the ground/soil (or on piles as is already in the game with the beautiful hay fork).
Hope this helps this is what I could come up with an hour or so and would love to see tho I realize not all is possible to do or really necessary! And I am happy even with the EA just like its now lol.
Hope we see some other good ideas posted here now! I realized its pretty hard to come up with this stuff!

2024.05.14 15:13 Altruistic-Light5275 Roads generation and settlement connections on the world map in Outpostia

Roads generation and settlement connections on the world map in Outpostia
Hello there. In previous posts, I've talked about how faction territories are generated and settlements placed. Today's topic is about how roads are calculated and generated on the world map in Outpostia. What do I know about roads? Not much, well, there are different kinds of roads - bigger and smaller, faster and slower, better and cheaper, and they connect something. But what exactly? Seems like, first you need to decide what you want to connect with what, as at this point we have multiple factions, each of them having capitals, cities, and countless outposts and villages. Today we would be speaking only about land routes, so we naturally only check settlements inside one continent or island. Still, there is not much sense to connect "everything with everything": it would take forever and will look gross.
We are going to start with the easiest part: I think we all could agree that there must be some kind of "interstates" or roads connecting different factions and their capitals. So should we connect every capital with each other? The answer is tricky, as in real life you are likely to go from A to B to C rather than from A to C. And once again algorithms are going to take their toll on our mental health: capitals also could be grouped into clusters/trees/graphs and there are ready to use centuries-old algorithms to calculate the best ways inside such things. I've decided to stick to the Minimum Spanning Tree (from the C# QuikGraph lib) as it's one of the most popular things to use and one of the easiest explanations of the MST algorithms itself is... "imagine you have a bunch of cities, and you want to connect them all with roads in the most efficient way possible". So basically I'm inserting data into the algorithm, it tells me what to connect, and somehow (I'll explain it at the end of the post) I calculate the exact route from A to B and set road tiles on the world map.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_spanning_tree
The only main caveat here is in the name of the algorithm: Minimal. So there most likely will be only one or two "hub" capitals, while we would like to have more of a web of roads, because if we are generating randomly hostile factions, it would be funny if friendly factions will appear to be connected only through the hostile one.
Capital roads - placed roads using only MST
So maybe we should exchange our algorithm for something else? Once again we are using a very old problem and solution: the Traveling Salesman Problem, which asks the question "Given a list of cities and the distances between each pair of cities, what is the shortest possible route that visits each city exactly once and returns to the origin city?".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travelling_salesman_problem
And looking at the exemplary graph, it appears that is exactly what we are missing, but let's try to apply it: again I'm feeding the data to the library and it gives me an answer (after about an hour of frustration because I had to manually add the data as both ways - from A to B and from B to A).
Capital roads - placed roads using only TSP
Yeah, seems like both of them have their problems, as the second one will not connect nearest cities and only cares about the condition of traversing through the settlement only once. Should we consider using some other algorithms, maybe Minimal Spatial Forest instead of Minimal Spatial Tree? Maybe, but being a lazy person I've decided to combine the output of two algorithms taking unique combinations from both of them, because otherwise, I would have to write my own algorithm and the psychotherapy just costs too much.
Capital roads - placed roads using both algorithms
But it seems like it works well and we have successfully connected entire continents by quite efficient roads. But what about other settlements? Well, there are many ways to implement that, but I've decided to iterate through every settlement within a faction (except a capital) and connect it to the nearest bigger settlement. That would mean that a city will connect to a big city and an outpost will connect to a village (or bigger settlement if it's closer). Ok, there is always room for improvement, like fixing some strange errors related to the libraries usage resulting in empty output, or having sometimes nearby cities of some hierarchy connected only to the capital but not to each other, but those are fixable things. Also in my solution lesser settlements tend to have worse roads, like an outpost will have only a dirt road.
All generated roads
But how exactly do you generate the road itself? One good way to generate roads is to place them naturally, like in real life: people tend to walk where it's easiest, roads tend to be constructed where it's easier. So naturally we will need to find some pathfinding algorithm, declare that "roads are faster, forests are slower" and in the end, we will have a nice solution, where everything is connected quite efficiently, while lesser roads tend to "pour in" into bigger ones and omit forests on their way if it's reasonable. I've decided towards A* pathfinding algorithms, because I already had it implemented, but there are better solutions, which calculate better paths resulting in better roads. For my solution, I also had to add a bit of randomness to the pathfinding calculations so the roads will turn a little and look more natural.
Turning roads
That's almost everything I wanted to do for now on the world map besides mountains and rivers, but for mountains you could use the same noise patterns from my first post, while rivers could be placed from the highest point (mountain) to the lowest (ocean) using the same algorithms as roads.
In the next parts, I'm going to tell you about how I procedurally generate settlement, building, and room layouts in the game itself. Stay tuned.

2024.05.14 13:09 Teaside Some (...maybe lots of..) gentle hints please! :') Endgame spoilers!

Hello! I feel like I might be reaching my limits with this game - would really appreciate some gentle hints! I want to keep trying but I'm just completely stuck now..! 😭
I've just finished collecting all the eggs without hints today, proud of that :D But the rest escapes me... I've had just a glance at the posts here and HELLO? There's so much more I'm still missing - like what on earth is that neon paint (Edit: got it.... ohh my god I'm gonna have to walk around the whole map again lol) I've seen in some posts... This is why I'm here, I don't wanna spoil too much for myself by just browsing so I'd rather ask..!
PLEASE don't give me direct answers, hints are so much better! :')
Endgame spoilers below! I kept any pictures further down in the thread but beware - couldn't figure out how to spoilertag pictures.
I have: Beat the boss manticore, got the multi-bubble wand, got the remote, hamster wheel, bouncy ball, (among all the easy to find things like frisbee, slinky etc.) and found 2 secret rabbits - the one disguised as a duck with the flute code, and the one at the beginning of the map, on the ledge. I've also check-marked every single room in the map that I could access, after trying my best to thoroughly check if there's anything at all that stands out to me..! These are the things I've found but can't understand:
  1. I've put the 65th egg in the incubator - needless to say the manticore respawning is not the reward I wanted or expected, not the horrors again!! 😭 I can't save with phones while it's following me, so it must be that I have to take it somewhere... But I can't figure out where. I tried the big 3d ring thing behind my house. I've tried the dog/wolf spirit to see if they'll fight each other. Tried the cave bear, tried the big bat (later realised I can scare it off with multiple firecrackers, that took me way too long lol), I've also noticed the manticore-coded chained boxes (like the dog and mouse ones) in that final stretch of the map, the hidden ones behind some breakable tiles? But the hamster wheel platform next to them let me move them, so I assumed it's a metaphor that I'm the manticore..? Idk. (I've seen the me/seedling-coded boxes too, I think that's where one of the secret rabbits was, which is why the manticore-coded boxes are throwing me off...) Couldn't do anything there with the manticore though... I've also taken it to the flower I/my little guy/the seedling (idk what it is tbh) was born from, the lynx/cat mama, the eggs bird... No clue what else to try 😭 Wow. This dumbass (me) would just make a dash for it as soon as it would spawn, didn't dawn on me to just... stay in that room..........
  2. There's a circular recess I couldn't figure out - I understood the kangaroo one, it has firecracker flowers growing next to it, but what do I do with the fish one? All I can see is fish pointing up with sparkly eyes. I've tried giving the bubble fish the ball to play with, I've tried figuring out if that dolphin(?) is giving me some sort of flute code but it didn't look like it, didn't seem like I could use anything for the seahorse either, really no clue where to get the key for the fish circular recess. Yep, needed the last match stick to get to this one...! On my way to slot it in now 👀
  3. I was given a stopwatch after the first manticore, but I can't see it in my inventory and have no idea what it's for... Is this something I shouldn't worry about for now? Got an answer that this just shows the time in the pause menu!
  4. I've noticed the stone pillars? Runestones? Those little stone thingies in the backgrounds all over the map that have a symbol from the map-markers at the top, and 1-5 dots at the bottom. I've been noting them down, but please tell me if I'm on the right track - does the game expect me to use the correct map-marker icons for each stone I found and mark them on the map with that specific symbol, 5 of each? I've only used flame icons to mark them initially cause I was using other symbols for other things, but now with most of the map filled out I could make do without them. But I don't want to walk around the whole map again marking them off if I'm completely off-base here. Not a clue what they're for. DID THIS, SO SATISFYING. If anyone else is reading this - yes mark the correct symbols on your map along with the dots below them and it'll make sense when it's all done.
  5. Is there a point to putting the M. disc back down below? I'm surprised I can take it out of the shrine and re-summon the dog/wolf spirit, that's sus. Can it be taken anywhere else? I thought this would have been the circular recess thing but nope :/ Now it's just sitting in the bottom shrine.
  6. Is the monkey with baby monkey throwing rocks at me just a decoration/flavour? Suspicious! Been told community hasn't found anything here! (Yet...!)
  7. That bear that retreats to the cave - decoration, or something? I've tried using everything in my inventory on it... Suspicious! Been told to visit this guy on Groundhog day, wild... would not have figured this out, ever.
  8. WHERE IS THE LAST MATCH STICK!!! I get a feeling that I should be able to finally get through glass if I light the last candle, but I haven't been able to find the last match stick! 😭 I have some areas with no other access than through glass marked off to visit, I just know it'll let me go through glass at some point and I'm heavily leaning towards candle completion... But WHERE IS THAT DAMN MATCH STICK 😭 It was the near starting area one, my gamer pride is sooo hurt by this lol :'D And I was so convinced about the glass, I am a fool :'D idk why I was convinced the last match stick was some grand reward, and I guess I made the connection with glass because the 9 candles were encased in glass... WRONG
  9. Giraffe statue right before the room with a couple of guards... Is it anything? Seems like a big and significant statue for just flavour, but I haven't even seen giraffes in the game... Suspicious! Been told community hasn't found anything here! (Yet...!)
  10. Statue of three green penguins just before the water domain - anything there? Suspicious! Been told community hasn't found anything here! (Yet...!)
  11. ~~Another thing I saw in someone else's post was warp codes...plural?? I immediately got the home warp code which takes you where all the teleports are, from the fish "singing" below, that felt great and reminded me of my fav game, Tunic! ;W; 💖 But where on earth are people getting the other ones from?? ~~(< I keep trying to strike this out but reddit's flipping out on me) Aha, now that I got my last match stick, and in turn, the new light, I've found another warp immediately... So I guess the rest can be found with the UV light, too... Also I can see why it would have been so much easier to find all the eggs with the light, fml, that was so much trial and error without it :'D
  12. There's a room full of crows not far from where the duck-secret-rabbit faces flute code is. Initially I actually thought the code was for them because of the bird in the picture next to the face codes... What do I do with those crows, if anything? There's a lot of them sitting on 4 separate branches/shelves - I've tried playing multiple versions of flute notes, like how many crows are on each branch, didn't get anywhere.
  13. There's a tiny grid hidden under the LED bunny neon sign area... A 4x4 grid with 1-4 dots on each side. Absolutely not a clue what this is, man, not even a single thought. Been told this needed a whole bunch of players to solve, gonna leave it for when I'm at my complete limit and start looking things up!
  14. Is this anything? I noticed the other savegame icons have slightly different seeds, like these, but... surely I'm not expected to make more savegames?
https://preview.redd.it/l8w2348sad0d1.png?width=659&format=png&auto=webp&s=f3655b37390980343805b592f85efb64f0cfd54f
  1. The skull pile blocking a chest, where the faces flute code is explained. Threw everything I had at it. Tried playing flute notes depending on which way the skulls are facing. Nada. That chest is taunting me. I'M SO GLAD I ASKED, this would have driven me nuts, been told this needs a deathless run to open!
  2. There are two remote-controllable walls in this spot, but no remote control tower... It's in the other room, but that's not helpful. I can't access it from that room on the right either cause it's just a wall. How do I get in there?? (Edit: from the comments I can tell this would be a bit of a nightmare to attempt - you have to force the game to respawn you here? I am not good enough at platforming to attempt this so I'll leave it haha...)
https://preview.redd.it/alcu806fcd0d1.png?width=149&format=png&auto=webp&s=ae25379d1da96ad325db3d8e6d577841678a0892
no remote tower in this room (left)
wall in this one, but has remote tower (right)
  1. Two questions about the below: is the big garden pot just a decoration? Aha, console alternative to a puzzle! More clarity in the comments but be warned they contain the direct solution.
And what I've circled in particular - I noticed the exact same thing next to the duck-secret-rabbit... Am I looking into it too much? It feels like nothing in this game is accidental, so I'm always sus... :')
https://preview.redd.it/dzrk8qi7ed0d1.png?width=549&format=png&auto=webp&s=c6a32fee5817407996f5973e04d0f858ce6cadb0
  1. Are the pillars here a flute code? Same for the ones in the turtle room - initially I started playing the flute to play numbers corresponding to how tall each pillar is, but the turtles just came out as soon as I started playing, and didn't seem to react to me playing anything specific. What about here? Do I need to write down a sequence of them from the leftmost shore and play the full thing?
https://preview.redd.it/m4kke7llfd0d1.png?width=889&format=png&auto=webp&s=fee28b1392967c6c670b6a39bb289e7234435eac
  1. I have some sort of a key in my bag. Can't remember where I got it... No clue what it's for, or if I've used it before..!
https://preview.redd.it/fdh00vg8gd0d1.png?width=591&format=png&auto=webp&s=b4a23f63962c3d93767a32d0c5f4466b0029822c
  1. I'm sure the huge clock behind my house is meant to do something, it has doors and all... But no clue. I was there on the hour and just saw the little bird come out, (feels like there's some sort of purpose to time, but I haven't picked up on anything yet, initially thought that's when the kangaroo switches areas...) and I can see there's a few "000"s above the doors... That's about it... The only thought so far is that maybe characters from other savegames can come through here, but that seems VERY far-fetched, and not sure what purpose that would have... I also feel like I'm too early to figure out the clock, and the big 3d ring, before figuring out the rest. Should I not worry about it for now? Been told clock is for speedrunner rewards!
I... think that's it??? Sorry for the wall of text, if I can get some gentle hints on any of these I'd be grateful - I'll come back and edit the post to strike out what I've figured out, if anything. I know people on the Tunic sub like helping each other out with hints, feels like this game should have a very similar crowd, by the looks of it :D
THANKS IN ADVANCE! ♥

Luxury on a Budget: Affordable Kitchen Renovations in Port Macquarie

https://preview.redd.it/guz1fzxsid0d1.jpg?width=612&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff95aed0acbc367dbe23a11016ce12922f1c6dbd
When it comes to kitchen renovations, the idea of luxury often conjures images of extravagant expenses. However, achieving a superior quality kitchen without breaking the bank is entirely possible, even in the picturesque town of Port Macquarie. This guide will show you how to transform your kitchen into a designer kitchen while sticking to a budget. By focusing on strategic planning and smart choices, you can enjoy a stunning kitchen that combines both elegance and affordability.

The Appeal of Kitchen Renovations in Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie, known for its beautiful coastal scenery and relaxed lifestyle, is a popular location for homeowners looking to enhance their living spaces. A kitchen renovation not only improves the functionality and aesthetic of your home but also adds significant value to your property. With the right approach, you can create a space that is both luxurious and cost-effective.

Planning Your Budget-Friendly Designer Kitchen

Assess Your Needs and Set a Budget

The first step in any kitchen renovation is to assess your needs and set a realistic budget. Determine which aspects of your kitchen need the most attention. Are you looking for more storage, better lighting, or a complete overhaul? Setting a clear budget will help you prioritize your expenses and make informed decisions.

Research and Gather Inspiration

Before you start your renovation, spend time researching and gathering inspiration. Look at magazines, online platforms like Pinterest, and visit local showrooms in Port Macquarie. This will give you a clear idea of the styles and features you like. Create a vision board to help you stay focused on your desired outcome.

Choose Quality Materials

One of the keys to achieving a luxurious look on a budget is to choose quality materials that are also affordable. Consider materials that offer durability and aesthetic appeal without the high price tag. For example, quartz countertops can provide the look of natural stone at a lower cost. Similarly, laminate or vinyl flooring can mimic the appearance of hardwood or tile.

Smart Design Choices for a Superior Quality Kitch

Maximize Existing Layout

Rather than opting for a complete reconfiguration of your kitchen layout, which can be costly, try to work within the existing framework. Focus on updating the elements within the current layout, such as cabinetry, countertops, and appliances. This approach can save you a substantial amount of money while still delivering a fresh new look.

Upgrade Cabinets and Hardware

Cabinets are a significant focal point in any kitchen. If your cabinets are in good condition, consider giving them a facelift rather than replacing them. Painting or refacing cabinets can drastically change their appearance at a fraction of the cost. Adding new hardware, such as handles and knobs, can also elevate the overall look of your kitchen.

Invest in Quality Fixtures

Fixtures like faucets and lighting play a crucial role in defining the style of your kitchen. Investing in high-quality fixtures can make a big impact without a huge expense. Look for stylish yet affordable options that enhance the functionality and aesthetics of your kitchen.

Incorporating Affordable Luxury

Stylish Backsplashes

A stylish backsplash can add a touch of luxury to your kitchen. Consider materials like subway tiles, which are both affordable and timeless. For a more unique look, explore options like peel-and-stick tiles or budget-friendly mosaic tiles.

Open Shelving and Glass Front Cabinets

Open shelving and glass front cabinets can create an airy, modern look in your kitchen. They are also a cost-effective way to display your dishware and add personality to your space. By reducing the number of upper cabinets, you can save on material costs and create a more open feel.

Multi-functional Islands

A kitchen island can serve multiple purposes, from additional prep space to casual dining. Instead of custom-built islands, consider pre-made options or repurpose an existing piece of furniture. Adding an island can increase the functionality and luxury of your kitchen without a hefty price tag.

Hiring Local Expertise in Port Macquarie

Seek Professional Advice

While a DIY approach can save money, consulting with a local kitchen designer or contractor in Port Macquarie can provide valuable insights and help avoid costly mistakes. Professionals can offer advice on the best materials, layouts, and design elements to achieve a luxurious look within your budget.

Get Multiple Quotes

When hiring professionals, it’s important to get multiple quotes to ensure you’re getting the best value for your money. Compare the services, materials, and timelines offered by different contractors to make an informed decision. This step can help you find the right balance between quality and cost.

2024.05.14 12:34 SugarBeetle Glazing ceramic sculpture trouble

Glazing ceramic sculpture trouble
I feel like its so hard to glaze ceramic sculptures as it's always less it more, the more glazes you use, layering glazes, varying glaze finish, etc, the more inconsistent, over the top and tacky it looks.
I thought doing some test tiles of my crystals would help me know what to glaze my geode bowls with but I just feel as though its going to turn out badly no matter what I do? I was going to stick to using 2 glazes, one for the crystal and bowl and a darker rock like glaze for the outside of the body. I'm just so sick of putting so much work into building and sculpting only for the whole piece to be destroyed by the glaze.
Im also unsure if the breaking on the crystal edges looks good or not? I was thinking of using some underglazes on the crystals so when the glaze breaks on the texture it wouldn't look so constrasting with the white clay and vibrant glaze (eg light blue underglaze with blue glaze over). Another idea was to use black underglaze or slip on the whole thing because maybe this would make it look better?
I guess my main question is if anyone knows any artists who effectively glaze ceramic sculptures (preferably small) that I can use for inspiration, or a way to glaze sculptures effectively without so much error? Im thinking maybe ill just have to start using matte plain glazes and underglazes to decorate my pieces.
( pictures are some of my more successful glaze test tiles and the bowls im hoping to glaze at some point).
Thank you and sorry for the rant !

2024.05.14 12:32 Nephht Protecting birds from our windows

Protecting birds from our windows
Wild gardening-adjacent: Helping birds see your windows so they don’t fly into them.
Because of our efforts to make our garden wildlife-friendly we get so many birds in the garden, which is a delight. Sadly, some of them also fly into our windows, and while most are stunned and are able to fly away after a little while, a few don’t make it, which is heartbreaking, especially as they are often recent fledglings.
Globally, it’s estimated that several hundred million to a billion birds are killed each year flying into windows.
If this happens with your windows too, these are some preventative measures:
  • Usually, birds fly into windows because they can’t see them: They either see reflected trees and bushes; or if there is an opposite window they think they can fly on through to the sky they see on the other side of your house.
  • You need something on or over the windows to help birds see them. This needs to be on the outside of the window - drawing the curtains or sticking things on the inside won’t stop the windows reflecting trees etc.
  • You can get decals, fine mesh netting, UV foil to cover your entire windows, or UV-markers which birds are supposed to be able to see but not humans. Decals or marker-drawn lines need to be close together though, anything further apart and the birds will still think they can fly through the spaces between them.
For us, this is very much a seasonal issue, almost all bird strikes happen in late spring and early summer - perhaps it’s to do with the angle of sun and reflections, of just the numbers of young and inexperienced birds out there.
So what I’ve ended up doing in stead of the more common solutions is using blackboard markers to draw (sloppy) mandala-ish designs on the windows: it’s been about 2 weeks of sunny weather, and so far we’ve had zero strikes! (we had several in the weeks before, which prompted me to do this) So I’m fairly confident this method is working.
The blackboard marker will wash right off with water when birdstrike season is over - that does also mean it could rain off, but these windows hardly ever get direct rain - and you don’t really notice the lines much from inside during the day, though they are a lot more visible at night.

2024.05.14 11:26 5ecret0nly UFH in carpeted room - is it worth it?

Hi all
Context: currently undergoing a major renovation and extension of a 2 bed 1844 cottage - gutted back to a shell etc. We’ve added a two storey extension and are remodelling the interior also.
We’ve had the existing roof stripped and insulated as it had basically no insulation - it was a bloody cold house.
Got a bit of a dilemma. Downstairs there’s a hall with under stairs loo going in, new kitchen (in the extension) and the existing living room is being extended a bit. Hall had all the concrete dug out and insulated ready for a screeded UFH system to match the kitchen - will be tiled on top.
We’ve not dug the living room out as we plan to carpet it, plus it has a 5kw wood burner in it already. We’ve had mixed advice on UFH in there - some saying it’s largely pointless with carpet and stove, and just to stick with a radiator. Others have said do the UFH.
The challenge: overlay wouldn’t quite work in living room as it’ll mean a bit of a step up from the level in the rest of the downstairs (which can’t come up any more than planned as it’ll foul the front door - which can’t be raised). So we’d have to dig it out, which will be about another £6k on the budget (for concrete subfloor including insulation and membrane).
While it’s nice to not have a radiator (there’s never a good place for them) and UFH through all of downstairs would be nice, £6k is a big chunk of cash.
In your opinion, is it generally worth having UFH in a carpeted room? It’s about 4.5m wide by 6.5m long so not massive. And again in colder evenings we’d have the fire on anyway.
Ultimately am hoping you’ll all say “don’t waste your money mate”!! Cheers!

2024.05.14 07:42 Medium-Database1841 Glossier Merch List

My old post got removed after I added links but it didn't say why, so uploading again without links :)
Good Day Y'all!
I don't know why but today I felt compelled to write down a list of all the Glossier items one might deem as "collectors items" (because they're more than Merch in a lot of cases) to show myself that I will never be able to have everything to keep myself from spending LOL!
This list got SO LONG omg. I categorized it kinda randomly and then in the end it didn't make much sense anymore but I thought I would share and then you all can add stuff if you want or post your favorites? I googled a bunch to see if I was missing stuff (which I probably still am) and found so many cool things I never knew existed - especially the Boston Pop Up stuff looks SO COOL??? I might put a few links in the comments to share.
Anyway here's my list:
Hoodies
Other Wearable
Discontinued / special products
Holiday Sets / Makeup / Skincare
Bags
Drinkware
Other special edition items
Other events / PR / very long ago

2024.05.14 06:17 ScottMuybridgeCorpse The Problem of Exploration in Starfield

First off I want to say I have been one of the defenders of the game, and I'm glad I was, because it's an excellent game now, and it's only going to get better.
The main controversy is of course, exploration.
It's controversial only because people expect certain things from a Bethesda game, like a dedicated world map to explore. And in this game which is brand new IP - there is no world map.
Let's just state that again, because as far as I can tell, it is not sinking in for most people.
Starfield has no world map.
Todd gave an interview recently (Kinda Funny) and Bryan gave an interview near launch (MinMax) and in both those interviews if you listen carefully they said what effectively amounts to exploration not being the priority with Starfield.
Procgen is side content. You are not meant to explore these generic procgen tiles as a replacement for the Boston Commonwealth or Skyrim. It couldn't possibly be that...
If you literally click a random pixel on a planet, generate the procgen tile, then go and painstakingly study every rock on that tile, there is a very good chance (roughly 100%) that you will get bored. Bethesda could not possibly have intended you to do that. My opinion is they let people think it was an exploration game because of corporate pressure from above, it's bad PR if Todd had outright said "it's not an exloration game - stick with Fallout if you want that."
So, if Starfield can be called an exploration game at all (and it's debatable) then here is my (possibly eccentric) interpretation of how exploration is supposed to be done. At this point, I'm going to sound a bit patronizing but I want to be clear I am not insulting anyones intelligence, I also want this to be a mini guide for newbys to the game so they don't get confused and disillusioned like so many have. Bethesda probably made the game too open, but as Todd said in his last interview (Kinda Funny) they "want the game to say yes to you."
Ok, so the main exploration in Starfield is done from the cockpit - except - it's actually done through the menu...
Yeah, you go to the Star Map, click on a random star and jump to it. From there you have a look in your System Map (one level down from Star Map) and you are looking for these little encounter markers on the map. There is a ship, asteroids, sensor contact, hostile activity... Possibly others, and no doubt more will be added. You then fly to it and have the encounter.
Also, if you look at planets and moons, notice some have three dots (...) on them - that means there is a POI on that planet pre populated for you to investigate. Sometimes it is a civilian structure (fracking, outpost), sometimes it is a structure defended by a hostile faction (abondoned weapons lab, etc). You then land at it, take a good look around at the lovely planet tile (and that's it... not spend 16hrs exploring...) go to your POI, murder everyone and go...
So, from that, you can say that it is primarily about space exploration which then potentially advances into on-foot exploration. This approach requires you to self-moderate your gameplay...
Look at it another way. I am not very knowledgable about Sci Fi generally but one show I have watched a lot was Star Trek Next Generation. I think Starfield gameplay is meant to flow like Next Generation...
Picard says "warp to..." there is a cutscene of the ship warping - another of the ship reaching it's destination... The crew member says "sir, our scans show..." - Picard says "hmm... let's investiate - divert power to shields..." cutscene of the ship leaving destination - and of the ship arriving at it's new destination with the encounter in front of them...
If they go down to the surface it's "beam me down..." then when they arrive, you take in the vista of the alien world - but only for a moment - not for 20 hours... otherwise it'll get boring... After they scan or shoot stuff, they say "beam me up" and they are back on the ship drinking boba tea.
So the procgen tile serves the following purposes, in order:
-Visual background for the poi you spotted from space.
-Area for you to build your outpost on.
-Area for surveying.-
-Area for random exploration.
So in my opinion people exploring the tiles were basically "playing it wrong." Now you could come back and say "ahh but Bethesda are the developer, it's is their job to guide the player, etc" I won't argue with any of that. The fact that there was so much controversy certainly implies that Bethesda did something wrong.
But let's look at what they did right? If you like exploring the POI's, and I consider them among Bethesda's best work. Then you can do the above method or even better, take the radiant quests from the Mission Boards and it actually tells you which POI the enemy is occupying. I have a spreadsheet and I'm working my way through the POIs. I take the bounty only if it is situated at a POI that I haven't visited or feel like doing. The POIs are incredibly well designed, in my opinion.
So with all that said, how do I think this system can be improved upon? And as I said, I reject the idea of the game being fundamentally broken - that is just people who wish it was Fallout 4 or Skyrim. They wish they were playing a different type of game. Well, God did not command Bethesda to make pure open-world exploration games centred on a dedicated world map. They made a different type of game, perhaps it requires a different mental approach... I admit, in order to enjoy STarfield I have to self-moderate my play a bit...
Ok, here are my suggestions.
1. Have a fixed position for all the POI's, spread accross the galaxy. So you can definitely find them all.
2. Give all POI's and varients unique names (not simply "Civilian Outpost").
3. Have a compendium, captains log, library - something, to chronicle your exploration.
4. Make it possible to grav-jump without entering the menu, with a hotkey - and be notified if there are encounters.
5. Make ship modules like brig and infirmary work, and fuel costs (already available via mods).
tldr; Starfield is not Fallout. If you are playing it like Fallout - you ARE playing it wrong.

2024.05.14 06:11 an_old_potato What does Reddit recommend for floor tiles, backsplash, and cabinet color in this kitchen?

The tile floor needs to be replaced in this kitchen. While we’re at it, we are going to replace the backsplash. The countertops have to stay, so we are thinking sticking with neutral and earthy options.
We’re also considering painting the cabinets. We don’t love the two-tone look and are really not pleased with the grey on the bottom. It’s far too cool for the space. Depending on how terrible the painting process is, we might end up just painting the bottom cabinets and live with the white on top.
Initially, we are leaning toward a warm griege 5-7” hexagon tile for the floor and a 4x4” warm white faux zellige tile for the backsplash. Perhaps a creamy mid-brown or something green for the cabinets. Perhaps something sage-ish (see inspo pic at the end of the carousel).
We want to make selections that will still feel nice in ten years or so, but we’re not interested in making decisions with the next buyer in mind.
