Seasonal Allergies Immunotherapy
Hi I’m planning on applying for OCS when I graduate in May. But im currently taking allergy shots for my seasonal allergies. I would have no problem pausing them during basic etc. Resuming when I’m past training, but is this something I have to do? Is it worth having to get a medical waiver for it? Do I need to tell my recruiter?

Currently in the process of reenlisting as a prior service who was chaptered out in AIT for SI. Submitted and turned over all my paperwork to my recruiter and awaiting MEPS. My recruiter said this is the longest part of the waiting game from his experience. How long should I be expecting to wait realistically? I would ask my recruiter but I feel like I've bothered him enough over the past few weeks lmao. - Thanks!

Weight loss
I'm currently 5% body fat over for the arms 2.0. I'm eating way better and consuming 12-1,500 calories and losing an average of 3,000 calories a day. I've been running/walking 2 miles a day of hill terrain. My recruiter said I need to lose 10 pounds by May 17. I need tips and tricks on how to lose those pounds by then

Army National Guard recruiter says at MEPS you can choose from several dates to start basic. Is that accurate?
If so, typically how many dates are there to choose from and how far in the future? I have a great civilian job, so would like to know my date as far in advance as possible.
Edit: would go on to traditional state OCS (yea, I know the internet’s opinions on it but it fits my life really well) afterwards.

I've got 4 years active and 3 years guard under my belt and I've always put in to my tsp to get the match. I know you need 8 years to keep the matching, but my unit has drained what little motivation I had left for the army, and I've decided I'm done. I'm curious if anyone can help me figure out if there's any option that will help me keep my tsp matching besides a 1 year extension. I doubt the IRR counts towards 8 years, and from what I understand, the inactive guard is simply a pause button. So instead of pushing me to 8 years, it's just delaying my 7th till next year or something. I'm also wondering if a future federal job would contribute to that 8 years or if it has to be all concurrent. Thank you for any help or any resources or links yall can send me to figure this out.

I was wondering if I could join the army with depression, anxiety, and OCD. All diagnosed. I have no suicide attempts or anything like that, no inpatient care either. All of these are somewhat mild and manageable, and I haven't been on any medication. But that was another concern of mine, if I was to get on any medication, would that disqualify me? Thanks a lot.

Im currently a senior in high school trying to enlist in the army since December but I’m at a loss of what to do. I took the asvab scored a 61 but autism came up on my records from when I was a kid. I had to get a full medical Record for meps then they wanted my pharmacy record and now they want some more records my recruiter made me sign a form for my old doctors to get it from them about a month and a week ago. I called him the earlier this week and he said he Kentucky or Kansas (I didn’t hear him well and forgot) doing some training I honestly just don’t know what to do I’ll graduate from high school in a few weeks and I probably have a month after that before my parents kick me out any advice?

Hey all, I wanted to get some insight on whether you all think I would be able to enlist with Crohn's. I've seen online that it's generally marked as an "unwaivable medical condition" but sometimes goes on a case by case basis. My IBD is very mild, I honestly forget that I even have the damn disease because it doesnt effect my daily life at all. I have it managed by taking an 8-week biologic but have gone on extended breaks from it before due to insurance reasons (roughly 2-3 months without any meds) and had no flare ups or any issues of the sort. However, my doctor is thinking of switching me to a daily pill (Rinvoq). I don't have any food sensitivities like a lot of Crohn's patients have (caffeine, alcohol, dairy, etc.) and have never had any surgeries nor does my GI doctor think i'll ever need one. I wanted to enlist for a 17C contract as im already in college for tech anyhow, I'm not sure if that would effect my standing. However, dream MOS is 18X but I figure that may be tougher to get by a recruiter. Any advice or thoughts? Army has been my dream forever and I don't want to have to give it up, so I'd really do anything haha.

I have read a few horror stories where someone enlisted with X,Y, or Z in their contract, but after basic they where told something else and could not confirm the original. For example, someone claims they had a specific location through Option 19, only to later be told they are going somewhere else.
My first question is: has this happened to anyone here, and if so and how was it resolved?
My second question is: after signing your contract, how do you gain acess to it later? Do you receive a physical copy for yourself? Can you download a copy? Is there someone you can ask in the Army to retrieve it for you? Will it be acessable on a portal of somekind?
I am considering enlisting with option 19 and the location is very important to me. Thank you!

Is a bonus worth choosing the Army over the AF?
In general, I’ve heard that the army’s QoL is less than that of the Air Force. However, the army has way more jobs w bonuses that I’d be interested in. And it’s the same or similar jobs as the Air Force, but w a bonus. I know the Basic Training for army is also longer, but a bonus can be convincing. I have the same question, but in regards to joining the navy as well. I want to focus on my education during my enlistment & get my bachelors & id also like travel opportunities. I haven’t taken my ASVAB yet, it’s scheduled the 16th. I scored rlly well on the PiCAT, and according to those scores I qualify for some army jobs w a bonus. I know it’s not as simple as that, and it’s a whole process & based on what’s available. Just want some opinions on if I was offered an army job w a bonus as opposed to the same/ similar Air Force job without, would you consider it worth it based on your experience?
I already got some answers from a post I made about this, but moderator deleted it and said to comment here. But any additional info/ insight is greatly appreciated. I want to make the best choice for my future in the case that I don't want to do 20 years.

I'm joining up rn and working with a recruiter. We've got my waivers and everything. Pretty much just have to pick a job. For background I was an IET separation back in 2009. From what I've read and what me and my recruiter have gone over I am glossary non-prior service. I could have sworn I read (albeit a while ago) that business rules did not apply to GNPS, so I should be free to pick my MOS. However, I talked to my recruiter earlier today and he wants me to sit with his 1SG and go over the job options available for prior service. Am I wrong and I just get what I get?

Please help!
I was looking to join the guard but in my medical records it shows I had Guillan barre. I was feeling some numbness in my legs, but looking back at it, it was very cold outside and I was just a bitch who would try to get out of school by any means possible. They did a spinal tap and never found any trace of the disease however. I was in the hospital for a couple of days, the gave me immunoglobulin and then I went home and nothing ever came of it. I am currently completely asymptomatic This was when I was 12 or 13 years old. Now I’m 18 and want to join but my recruiter said I have to get all the records and stuff. What is the chance that I will still be able to join? I tried looking it up online but I couldn’t find an answer. Also if I’m able to join, will I need a medical waiver?

I think 11B because I don’t want to individuate and do army shit or 68W but I’m not sure if I can get advanced combative training or other schools I want. I want to do something that’s “high speed” and meaningful while working my way towards Ranger reg. Is the 82nd Airborne a good pathway to that? How is civil affairs? Can you enlist directly into it while being active duty?

Hi everyone! I’m a high school student planning on joining the military. I’m Muslim, so I want to be sure that whichever branch I join is accommodating to Muslim needs. If it changes anything, I’m planning joining through the ROTC route.
My main concerns are, does the Army give beard waivers for Muslims? Is it possible to take short breaks throughout the day to pray? Can you fast during Ramadan? Can you be provided with halal (no pork/no alcohol) food?
Also, I’m interested in infantry or armor (or any kind of ground forces officer in general). Would these accommodations interfere with being selected for these careers or being mission ready? (Such as a beard, fasting, etc.)

So my recruiter told me that I have to get a lease first, but the thing is, is that we don't have one with our landlord. It's more like an oral lease and he's a slumlord who never tries to communicate with any of us. That being said, my recruiter then said that I should find a lease online and edit it to where I state that I'm paying the rent to my sister instead (who has a valid ID) He also stated that my sister and I have to go to a check-cashing place to get it notarized. Is this all ok to do and will the BHA be approved? Also if it's approved, does this mean that the rent we pay which is $1,365.50, is going to be paid for while I'm away and how exactly??

Questions about Virginia National Guard
I want to do OCS! Now here’s my confusion. My recruiter is saying that the moment I swear in is the moment my contract is going to start and will count towards that 6 year! So, if he is right, I will basically complete 2 years training if I do state OCS. But I would like to have more control on what branch I get! My top 3 are: cyber warfare, signal, and intel. Should I do accelerated in that case? Also how likely am I to get one of those aforementioned three if I do state OCS of 18 months? My bachelor was in Computer Engineering, and I am currently enrolled in ASU for master’s pursuing Computer Science! Will I get that 24k a year tuition fee because he said there’s a possibility I might get it since it’s fully online? Can I get tuition assistance and loan repayment both? Does getting either one incur additional service time?

So my husband is going to meps next week. he has 2 different sets of scars on his left arm. He works at a mobile home plant building houses. One was from when he got caught on a nail so it's a little deeper looking and another was from some sheet metal at work. He didn't disclose it to his boss because he works on a line and it would've put his team behind so he just put some bandaids on it and went about his day and cleaned it up when he got home. This was about 1-2 years ago. What is his meps experience going to be like? They aren't self harm obviously but we've heard horror stories about the doctors at meps not believing people and DQ them. He honestly forgot about telling his recruiter and his recruiter has already sent in all his medical history and got him scheduled for meps. Should he still go ahead and tell his recruiter or just wait and disclose it at meps?

I'm currently in process Enlisting in the Reserve, while holding an associate's degree in mechanical engineering technology, with some side education in programming. While I am working towards my bachelor's degree, I'm looking to pick an MOS that will help my career, or at the very least, be interesting. I don't remember my scores, but my Recruiter told me whatever I pick, my score won't be the limiting factor.
Top of the list for career jobs is 15 series, from what I've heard from currently enlisted in my friend group, wrenching on aircraft in general is a fast track to a cushy job on the outside with my education. 25 series looks boring but useful as anything IT/electrical complements my degree. On the more interesting side, I was looking at 91 series, either 91F or 91P.
Am I going anywhere wrong with any of these jobs? Anything I should be keeping in mind?

Hi all,
I am a permanent resident here is the US, and last week I finished my ASVAB mock test with a 95 on my AFQT. The recruiter says I am eligible for everything that doesn't require a security clearance which is kind of a problem as my dream MOS are the 35-series and 17-series (As both of these are locked behind clearance requirement)
After some thinking, I narrow down to the following, but there are still too many so I hope I can get your feedback on what I am doing. My aims are: a/I want something that will translate into the civilian world well if my time in the army doesn't go well, b/I want an MOS that can advanced through warrant or becoming a commission officer if my time in the army does go well, and c/I want to push myself to the limit and break out of my comfort zone to see where I can go. If I sound arrogant, please forgive for that: I am just trying to be as careful as possible. I am nearly reaching my thirty, and I want to take deliberate steps because I no longer have the luxury of youth and family to try and fail.
The MOS are:
11-series, 12B and 12D: I have a soft spot for these despite knowing they don't translate into the civilian world. But in my heart somewhere is a wild child that wants to test my physical prowess and wants to blow things up. I do know my knees and lower back will hate me for picking this.
15 series: With exceptions to 15C, 15J, and other works related to flying or being mechanics of sensitive equipment, I can be an aircraft technicians. I read that there are demands for airplane mechanics but I don't know much about this field other than a/I got to repair planes, b/people seem to hate it because you have to sign a long contract if you become a warrant.
68A: I did see this MOS getting recommended a lot but after reading its description, I am not very sure if I want to do it either both in the army or afterwards. I must also admit I don't have a good insights onto the day to day life of this job. Can someone shed some light about this MOS for me?
68C: Becoming a nurse seems like a very safe choice out of the military given that the BLS projects nurse to be in high demand and being able to take care of your family sounds like a big plus to me; however, I don't know if I like being a nurse. My parents were doctors, and having seen the hospital environment I can say I am not a fan. I also look into 68A but BLS prospect for it didn't seem good, and the training on 68E, 68D, and 68V look a little bit too short. Do you really become a dental assistant just with 10 weeks of training?
68W: I must admit, I have a soft spot for 68W as it allows me to be both learn some medical skills and be on the field. However, I do notice that 68W only translates to paramedic/EMT post-army, while 68C translates to becoming a nurse (which is more valued and regarded as "better" than paramedic or EMT and thus in higher demand)
88H, 92A, 92F, and 92Y: I pick these because, according to BLS, there is a projected increase need for people in warehousing and transportation. From my limited understanding of the fields, you will be in charge of handling logistics such as maintaining unit inventory, ordering supplies and weapons for your units, etc. but I am not very sure on the difference between, say, 92Y and 92A.
So, can you give me a suggestions? May anyone who has been in these MOS share their experience to help me pick? What are some of the MOS I miss?
Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,

How can i improve my chances of success after the military?
I'm going to meps in 2 weeks and im shooting for a 25 series mos. 25H was what was available at the recruiters after i took my practice asvab. I'm not the brightest bulb but, hey, I'll take it. Aside from college ,which i want to continue to pursue throughout my time in the army (or after depending on my mental fortitude once i'm actually in,) how can i set myself up for success in the civilian world? Any input from past 25h or 25 series who somehow translated their career into decent paying jobs will be much appreciated.
I'll add I'm only joining the army for the college benefits and free training as i come from a poor household and have no other feasible way to pay for it.

Hello everyone,
I was recently laid off from a $64k job, and honestly, I'm not too upset. I was already feeling burnt out and unhappy, staying primarily for the promised educational benefits to facilitate a career change, which obviously fell through with the job loss. Now, I'm considering my options and the military as a new path has been sounding appealing to an extent. The VA loan and GI Bill are particularly enticing because they would help me pursue a degree without getting into debt, and enabling the career change I've been considering. And the thought of being able to buy a house at this age/economy seems awesome.
At 28, I'm weighing the implications of joining now, especially considering the pay cut and spending four years AD without the guarantee of going overseas which for me would make it much more worthwhile. Also, I'd likely be one of the older members among younger peers, which is another factor to consider. My entry rank would be E3 due to my associate degree told by the Air force recruiter I met, but I'll need a moral waiver for a misdemeanor I had at 18, which might limit my job options not to mention she told me I would have to be at the disposal of whatever the Air Force wanted me to do? Which I am assuming means that I could enlist for one thing that they tell me nope get your doing this. The Air Force recruiter told me that I would be just fine and I would be able to get in as long as my ASVAB score is high enough.
I'm torn about whether to commit to AD and save myself or a longer term in the military via reserves but still stuck in the same loop of feeling in fulfilled, unable to afford university and in a place I would rather leave. Insights from anyone who joined the military later or faced similar decisions would be incredibly helpful.
Thanks for any advice!
P.S I am also ok with the idea of the military as a career as I would still be able to retire earlier than many of my peers if I pursue the 20 year route..

So when I was in the first time I was a 25U. I was 16 when I swore in to secure my mos and left at 18YO. I’ve decicided to go back in. Im picking between 19 jobs, I qualify for all of them as I keep my old asvab scores. I scored over a 105 in everything so I have a pretty big list to pick from. These jobs have good jobs outside of the army and that’s my angle, I know 25U translates to a good job outside of the army but it’s not my cup of tea. Background: Greencard holder, 6yr+ experience in IT field. No degree. Married.
Always wanted to join the military and finally have the opportunity to do so.
What I want to experience from the military;
I want the opportunity to grow in the IT field and have military experience and later on attain a contractor job in overseas installations. Very interested in being able to move overseas for a few years specially Japan.
My biggest interest is to grow in my career + experience other countries.
Recruits have also told me that for active duty they are allowing first duty station to be chosen because the army apparently has a shortage of people joining so they want to motivate people to join by allowing them to choose duty stations. This has made me consider going active IF they aren't lying about this + the job security has always been a plus to me.
My primary plan was :
Going reserve, getting my citizenship while in basic training, changing my mos to 25B then finding government contracting job overseas preferably (Japan) and changing my unit to Japan to drill there (Camp Zama). Overall my biggest goal is to move overseas and be in the IT field.
What is the best route? Advice is greatly appreciated in advance:)

So I’m wanting to enlist as an 11x OP 4in the army, went to MEPS a few weeks ago, and am currently waiting on a current injury to be waived. I’m just kind of worrying about my vision waiver. Recruiter said we have to wait for this to be cleared first, then we can launch the vision waiver.
What’s the probability that a vision waiver will be accepted with Visual Acuity of 20/30 20/50 corrected vision. I understand everything is case to case, I’m just kind of worrying that it’ll end up being denied.

Is it true that i will have the opportunity to volunteer myself for airborne school at basic? If not, how can I attend Airborne or any other specialized school as a tanker?

Just reserved mos 88L Water craft engineer.
Was excited at first as I’ve e heard a lot of good things about this mos, but i have a wife, 6yr old and another on the way and am worried that i wont be home that often given this mos. Im supposed to go to meps in 4 days and swear in. Im really not trying to be away from my family all that often. Is this mos bad for family life? Have i made a mistake? Or should i keep it and roll with it. Any recommendations on what i should do?

Joining the army

Hello, I'm currently a high school senior who is interested in joining the ROTC. I've reached out to ROTC recruiters in the colleges that I will be attending however, they never picked up their phones nor responded to their emails after multiple attempts. I've also scheduled appointments with them only for them to not show up multiple times. I've also called the army and they said they would have someone call me but they never did either. I was wondering if anyone could help me get in touch with an ROTC recruiter as I got a few questions about the Army ROTC as well as the process to proceed.

- Thanks!

I could have sworn I read (albeit a while ago) that business rules did not apply to GNPS, so I should be free to pick my MOS. However, I talked to my recruiter earlier today and he wants me to sit with his 1SG and go over the job options available for prior service. Am I wrong and I just get what I get?

They did a spinal tap and never found any trace of the disease however. I was in the hospital for a couple of days, the gave me immunoglobulin and then I went home and nothing ever came of it. I am currently completely asymptomatic This was when I was 12 or 13 years old. Now I’m 18 and want to join but my recruiter said I have to get all the records and stuff. What is the chance that I will still be able to join? I tried looking it up online but I couldn’t find an answer. Also if I’m able to join, will I need a medical waiver?

So any info on the jobs in the army and civilian life for these mos would be greatly appreciate. Background: Greencard holder, 6yr+ experience in IT field. No degree. Married.
Always wanted to join the military and finally have the opportunity to do so.
What I want to experience from the military;

Is it hard to get a self harm waiver? It happened one time three years ago. My recruiter is pushing for it now

I'm going to MEPS this week and I was told that the Job I'm really interested in (12w) is rare and to not get my hopes up. I'll be doing research about some other jobs, but if I really want that job should I just wait for a slot to open up or go with alternate choices?
Does anyone have any experience with this job and how often slots show up?

Vision Waiver Acceptance Probability
So I’m wanting to enlist as an 11x OP 4in the army, went to MEPS a few weeks ago, and am currently waiting on a current injury to be waived. I’m just kind of worrying about my vision waiver. Recruiter said we have to wait for this to be cleared first, then we can launch the vision waiver.
What’s the probability that a vision waiver will be accepted with Visual Acuity of 20/30 20/50 corrected vision. I understand everything is case to case, I’m just kind of worrying that it’ll end up being denied.

Is there a list of all the different Options in contracts? Like Option 40, Option 4, Option 19, etc?

In the process of renegotiating my contract before shipping out and I'm seriously considering 19K (M1 Armor Crewman). Recruiter told me that anyone can volunteer to go to airborne school at BCT and I really want to go airborne but it seems like 19Ks don't really do it as much as other MOS's. Is it true that i will have the opportunity to volunteer myself for airborne school at basic? If not, how can I attend Airborne or any other specialized school as a tanker?

Or should i keep it and roll with it. Any recommendations on what i should do?

I have been looking into branches as much as possible and am pretty set on ADA but I wanted to ask if anyone here has been on a HIMAD or SHORAD deployment that can give me some insight on what it’s like, more specifically SHORAD but I do want to hear both sides.

hi, I am 17 turning 18F, and im joining the army and going to boot camp soon. What are some advice or anything you would tell someone before they go to boot camp or thinking about joining the army?

Hello, I'm currently a high school senior who is interested in joining the ROTC. I've reached out to ROTC recruiters in the colleges that I will be attending however, they never picked up their phones nor responded to their emails after multiple attempts. I've also scheduled appointments with them only for them to not show up multiple times. I've also called the army and they said they would have someone call me but they never did either. I was wondering if anyone could help me get in touch with an ROTC recruiter as I got a few questions about the Army ROTC as well as the process to proceed.

Washoe County Says It Will Look into Several Allegations against Grant Denton from the Karma Box Project
Despite a cease and desist letter issued by a lawyer for Karma Box Project founder and executive director Grant Denton, who also trains people in recovery, a former girlfriend and personal trainer, decided to speak out against him at a Washoe County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, saying he was unfit for helping vulnerable people.
She read her prepared statement before the County Commission decided whether or not to amend the contract awarded to the Karma Box Project to operate its mod pod safe camp, authorizing an increase in the amount of $1.2 million for a total not to exceed $1.8 million for the July 2024 to June 2025 period for staffing purposes.
An additional statement by a man active in the local recovery space both as an employee and as a board member which was read by another community member indicated that Grant Denton has had in his words “a negative impact, particularly on women in the community.”
That statement said Denton’s actions include allegedly “making demeaning and derogatory comments, courting women in the very early stages of their sobriety, and fat-shaming them. Such behavior is not only deeply disrespectful and harmful but also completely unacceptable for someone in a position of leadership and trust within our community.”
The statement called for “appropriate action … to ensure a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all individuals, particularly those who are most vulnerable.”
After the two statements, Washoe County Chief Deputy District Attorney Mary Kandaras said the county was “aware of some of the allegations and they will be, they are being reviewed by management. In the meantime, I would like to say that if you believe you are the victim of a crime then things should be reported to law enforcement.”
She added “the county has very robust policy in how to handle allegations of harassment and it will be handled according to law and policy.”
The former girlfriend went to a Reno police station a few weeks ago, wanting to file a temporary protection order, but after being told of possible ramifications, instead was given a security camera for her safety.
During public comment on the Karma Box item, one commenter called for the new contract to be suspended, while a lawyer for Denton, Cody Marriott for Silver State Law, who had previously sent the cease and desist letter, said Denton and Karma Box were not the same, so that the new contract should be awarded.
“We welcome an investigation to clear up Mr. Denton’s name and absolve his reputation on the matter,” he said.
“While it is no secret that I am not a perfect man, I vehemently deny the allegations,” Denton wrote to us by email. “I also look forward to a swift investigation into the allegations, the people who made them, and the people/entities who assisted/encouraged these individuals into making the false allegations. As everyone in this community is aware, I have worked tirelessly over the past decade to become a better man and help this community move forward.”
Commissioner Mariluz Garcia called the allegations a “curveball,” but along with Commissioner Alexis Hill pushed to go ahead with a vote to approve the new contract for Karma Box, along with other updated agreements with RISE and Volunteers of America, which all passed. Commissioner Mike Clark had said the updated Karma Box contract should have been separated and put on hold until an investigation is carried out, and voted no.
As part of a statement which she previously sent to Our Town Reno, the former girlfriend indicated she met Denton in February 2023 when he made a presentation at the Reps4Recovery location on Kietzke Lane, as part of their Sunday speaker series. She said she was looking for a supportive sober community after her previous boyfriend who suffered from addiction challenges had passed away.
The personal trainer said she exchanged numbers with Denton with the intention that she would assess his shoulder pain, which is one of her specialties, before they started a tumultuous on and off relationship lasting until April.
She says she believes Denton uses his position and many contacts in the community to take advantage of vulnerable women. The former girlfriend also makes other damning allegations, spanning conduct in the personal, family, work and relationship spheres.
She says Denton would put calls on speaker phone to county officials to intimidate her with his local network, which she says has made it difficult for herself and others to speak out.
Since their breakup, she says she’s been afraid to go to Reno Behavioral Health where her insurance referred her for therapy due to his presence there, with a Karma Box on site, and a page on their website praising him, indicating “Denton has dedicated his life to the homeless and those in recovery.”
She says she has also avoided gyms where she was contracted to be in on days Denton was present despite some of the days being in her contract.
As she concluded making her statement Tuesday, she broke down in tears.
The former girlfriend recently emailed her concerns about Denton to Commissioner Clark, suggesting other people to contact as well concerning his alleged misconduct. Clark then copied the email to Washoe County management, including those in charge of homelessness services and indicated in part, that her comments were “uncomfortable, difficult to read.”
In her email, she wrote: “I am a victim of Grant Denton. I am unable to even get protection in my case due to his platform and political backing, I am asking for a chance to have my story heard. I am relocating due to safety issues regarding him. I know commissioners play a big role in allowing projects/programs in the community. I am advocating, for good reason, to have him removed from venues with vulnerable women and children.”
In the email, the former girlfriend also pointed to previous domestic violence charges against him found on the internet, which date back to April 2011, in Clark County, with a charge then listed as “domestic battery - 2nd offense.” Looking at those records, a felony offense date listed in June and filed in September of that year is described as “Battery Domestic Violence 3rd.”
Denton who grew up in what he has described as an abusive Mormon family and church, faced multiple charges in Las Vegas, and was incarcerated several times, while being a meth and heroin addict, before he says he turned his life around, became sober and came to Reno with a mission to help those living on the streets and in addiction recovery in northern Nevada.
Several local advocates for the unhoused have previously complained Denton was being verbally abusive towards them while they tried to organize community meals near the Cares Campus, and also alleged they saw him being overly confrontational with unhoused people in front of them. Some have shared commentary concerning some of these difficult interactions via text messages.
Before the former girlfriend even received the cease and desist letter, an employee at the Nevada Department of Taxation warned her she would be getting it. She says she felt this warning was a form of intimidation to prevent her further from speaking out.
In the letter she eventually did receive emailed to her May 25th and dated May 24, sent by Marriott from Silver State Law, in which her name is misspelled, Denton is described as a “well-respected member of the community” who has “spent the last decade working to improve the lives of the disenfranchised.”
It states in footnotes his relationship with her “can only be described as casual,” which she says can be proven otherwise with past text messages from Denton.
The letter alleges that she has made “several untrue statements” and that her actions constitute “stalking, harassment, slander, libel, intentional interference with contractual relations, and defamations per se,” all of which she denies.
The former girlfriend says what she is sharing with the community is based on her experiences with Denton, and that it’s for the benefit of all, denying all accusations listed in the cease and desist letter.

2024.05.28 20:40 scarymaxx My cat always leaves me the best gifts

On the morning of Mother’s Day this year I received exactly one gift: a dead rat, deposited at my doorstep by my cat, James. James is black and white, slick and elegant, his fur like a tuxedo. If a cat was cast to replace Daniel Craig in the next Bond film, James would be perfect. In fact, the resemblance is how he got his name in the first place.
“Thank you, James,” I said, bending to stroke his fur as we both examined the little rotting carcass on the welcome mat. He looked up at me hopefully as if expecting me to take a nibble of his offering. “I’ll get to that later,” I promised.
The rest of the family had forgotten the holiday. Not that I blamed them. My husband Saito was busy at work, pulling 70-hour shifts as he prepared a series of PowerPoints to explain his company’s corporate structure to a potential buyer. In the meantime, the twins June and Lily were busy with spring soccer and last-minute prep for their upcoming AP tests.
I spent some time idly making myself coffee while the family slept. Then, around 9:00 they all flew past in flurry, the twins off to a soccer game and Saito headed to the office.
It wasn’t until they’d all left, that a lump began to form in my throat, and I headed to the backyard to have a little cry. I felt silly. It was a made up holiday, after all. Not like Christmas or a birthday (though Saito forgot my birthday too this year.)
For a few minutes, I sat on one of the patio chairs, sniffling pathetically, hoping no one returned early to see me like this.
I was about to go back in when I saw James. He was over in the corner of the yard, lying in the shade. Right away, I could tell something was off about him. James always slept curled in a ball, his chin resting on his rear haunch. Today, he was stretched out, bent awkwardly. Even stranger, he seemed to shimmer in the few spots where the dappled sunlight caught his fur.
Slowly, I walked over, clicking my tongue in the way he liked. When he didn’t move, I softly called his name. Finally, I reached out to touch him, only to find his fur wet. Drawing my hand back, I found it red and bloody in the sunlight, which is when I started screaming.
I called Saito a few minutes later.
“I need you to come home,” I said. “James is dead.”
“Your friend James? From college?”
“Our cat!” I realized I was screaming into the phone. “Our only cat!”
I could practically hear him roll his eyes on the far and of the line.
“It’s not a good day for this,” he said. “I can come back a bit early, take care of the body. Just leave it alone for now.”
I spent many hours alone that day, sitting in the backyard. In time, flies found James and began to lick at him with their little straw-mouths, dipping their horrible little hands in his blood and rubbing them together. It was no use shooing them away.
I was sunburned raw by the time Saito came home. He looked at me, incredulous.
“What happened to you?”
“I was standing vigil,” I explained.
He rubbed at the bridge of his nose.
“Where’s the cat?” he asked, and I gestured to the backyard. Every inch of my skin throbbed from the sunburn, but it felt right, like my inside and outside pain matched in some harmonious way.
Saito grabbed a wastebasket and started walking toward the backyard.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Taking care of… of James,” he said, trying to use a gentle tone, as if explaining to a child that it was time for bed.
“You’ll bury him,” I said. “At the foot of the maple. Three feet deep at least.”
He shook his head.
“That’s not even legal, hon. Besides, I was working all day. I’m exhausted.”
“Three feet deep,” I said, and then I went into the garage to find his shovel. The one I located was unused, though we must have bought it years ago. I brought it in and handed it to Saito. He took it without a word and went outside.
An hour later, he came in dirty and sweaty. He headed to the shower.
I walked to the maple to find the earth there freshly disturbed from digging. Then I found one of James’s favorite toys–a fuzzy bird that had once had a bell inside–and affixed it to a stick, which I placed at the head of the grave.
At dinner, the twins showed up still in their soccer uniforms. They’d spent the day at the park with friends after the game.
“Happy Mother’s Day,” said June, somewhat sheepishly. She handed me an envelope with a gift card to Jazzy Juice inside.
“Thanks,” I said. “What’s Jazzy Juice?”
“It’s a smoothie thing,” explained Lily. “It’s twenty dollars.”
“Thank you,” I said again, staring at the card. Maybe I was making a face.
“If you don’t want it, I can take it back,” said June. “My friends and I go there all the time.”
“No,” I said. “I love it. I’m sure I’ll love it.”
“Great,” she said, looking disappointed.
The next morning I went out into the backyard and screamed.
James’s grave had been dug up. It was nothing put an empty hole surrounded by a pile of dirt. The stick and the toy were missing too. It didn’t seem that deep. By the time Saito ran out to see what was wrong, I was in tears.
“Three feet deep!” I shouted. “I said three feet deep.”
“The soil gets really rocky when you go down that far,” he said. “I figured it didn’t matter.”
“It mattered!” I screamed.
I decided to take some ‘me’ time that afternoon, so I headed to Jazzy Juice. I tried to figure out the menu while I was in line, but I got overwhelmed by all the options. Finally, when I got to the front of the line, I asked if I could just get a basic orange juice.
“It would be more like an orange smoothie,” said the girl behind the counter, a thin redhead in her twenties, covered in tattoos.
“Oh that’s no good,” I said. “I don’t really like pulp. No pulp please.”
“That’s not really what we do here,” she said. “Maybe it’s a good day to try something new. The Berry Blitz is super popular.”
“I want my orange juice,” I said. I was probably a little rude, but I was at my limit. “I’ve got a gift card,” I added. “For twenty dollars.”
“Fine,” she said. And then, I swear, under her breath she added, “Boomer bitch.”
“Excuse me?”
She didn’t meet my eyes. Instead, she turned and started throwing frozen oranges into a blender.
“I’m forty-four!” I shouted over the noise as she started the blender. “I’m a Millennial! Maybe Gen-X!”
Finally, she handed me my drink. It was so pulpy it clogged the straw.
She shot me a shit-eating smile, “have a nice day!”
I chucked my drink in the garbage on my way out the door.
That night, I found myself crying as I tried to make dinner. I could see the little hole that had once contained James’s body through the kitchen window, and I couldn’t help glancing at it as I tried to peel zucchini.
It struck me that James had been the only one in the world who loved me at all. Even worse, it seemed unlikely that no one would ever love me again. I was aging, chubby, and boring. The world didn’t want me anymore.
Without realizing it, I made a deep cut on my thumb and started bleeding everywhere. For a minute, I just watch the blood ooze out of me, all over the vegetables.
That night, I heard a thump. I tried to shake Saito awake, but he was dead asleep. Finally, I got up and walked downstairs. There was another thump now, louder. Then a series of three more thuds right by the front door.
Slowly, I grabbed a knife from the kitchen and then walked through the darkness. As I did, I heard a familiar sound that seemed impossible: it was James’s distinctive meow, the little cry he’d deliver at the door when he wanted my attention. And yet it was somehow different now, a lower, deeper mewing.
“Hello?” I asked as I walked to the door, but there was no sound now. I heard footsteps outside, not a cat’s but something bigger, maybe human.
Finally, I reached the door and slowly turned the knob. I opened it just a crack, peeking through to see if anyone was outside.
At first, I saw no one. Just the empty street in the moonlight. A few night blooming flowers had opened their petals, but otherwise the neighborhood looked dull and lifeless. Then I looked down and had to stifle a scream.
There, on my doorstep, lay a body, its chest still fluttering with life but mostly torn to shreds. Great, bloody gashes had left the green apron in tatters, the skin’s intricate tattoos sundered to islands of nonsense. The girl’s red hair was now redder.
Though her skull was crushed, her pretty face nearly ripped off the bone, I knew immediately it was the girl from the juice shop.
My body tensed as I watched her chest cease its fluttering and the flow of blood slowed to a trickle. Soon, she was still as the rest of the street.
Then, suddenly, my heart was pounding again, as I realized I was not alone in the darkness. Something dark and massive was moving past the nearby bushes, watching me examine its kill.
Though it moved somewhat like a cat, the thing was far bigger, larger than any tiger I’d ever seen at the zoo. As it grew closer, I saw that it was standing on its hind legs, walking toward me, not quite like a person, but like an animal trying to mimic one.
I could barely breathe now. It was growing closer. Though it moved slowly, I could sense that it could cover the ten feet between us in a moment, far faster than I could slam the door.
“Please,” I said… “Don’t…”
As the creature walked into a slant of moonlight, I realized that it was dressed in a tuxedo. Or were those just the colors of its fur?
“My queen, I would never,” the creature purred, in a low voice. “I live only to serve you.”
I looked down at the dead girl by my feet. I would have to call the police, I knew. I would have to scream for Saito to come and help. There would be so much to explain. But I wasn’t afraid now. That moment had passed. I was here with a friend.
“James?” I asked, and he nodded ever so slightly. “You can’t do this,” I said. “I didn’t want this.”
“But she was so cruel to you,” said James. “She called you a very nasty name. I was hiding a few blocks away, but I heard everything. My ears are very sensitive.”
“But you can’t just kill people,” I said, trying to stuff my growing panic into my stomach. “It’s not… it’s not right.”
“Of course I can,” said James. “In fact, I must. It’s my nature.”
“Never again,” I whispered.
James cocked his head, looking me in the eyes. What was he looking for?
“I could stop if you order it,” he said. “Though that would be unfortunate. You know I love to honor you with gifts. I always have. But go ahead. Make the command and I will disappear, never to leave you another present again.”
I looked down at the dead girl, all torn to shreds. There was a certain beauty in it, like a stained glass window, sublime in its brokenness.
“Just say the word,” James said again.
But I didn’t.
“Thank you,” I finally said, bending to look closer at the dead girl. “For the gift.”
“It was but a trifle, my queen,” said the thing. “Until next time.”
And then, bowing slightly, he backed away and bounded into the darkness.

2024.05.28 19:58 DNthecorner ‼️URGENT ACTION ALERT‼️ EDUCATION ADVOCACY FUNDING CUT FOR FAMILIES HELPING FAMILIES

If you rely on the educational peer-to-peer support services provided by Families Helping Families, please be aware that the Louisiana Department of Education funding for these services will end on June 30, 2024.
In an email received on May 23, 2024, from Matthew Johnson, Chief Strategy Officer with the Louisiana Department of Education, it states:
"In response to the recent LLA Audits, the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) is assessing the performance of its current SPED partners to ensure we are doing everything we can for Louisiana SPED students and families. This process includes evaluating the past performance and future capabilities of Families Helping Families (FHF) as well as assessing other organizations' abilities to successfully partner with LDOE in this critical work."
A copy of this audit can be found below this alert.
For over two decades, Families Helping Families has received federal Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) funding from the Louisiana Department of Education to provide crucial support and services to families in need.
However, we are now facing a dire situation. Despite our tireless efforts to advocate for families and ensure compliance with special education laws and regulations, we believe we are being targeted by the LDOE for our advocacy work. This action will strip us of essential funding and leave families without the support they desperately need as of July 1, 2024.
This audit doesn't address Families Helping Families inability to support families. It is specific to the Louisiana Department of Education's lack of monitoring school districts to ensure compliance.
If you received support from Families Helping Families and believe families should continue to have access to this type of educational support, I urge you to use the sample letter below and contact the following people:

Dear______________,
I am writing you as a concerned parent of a child with a disability. I recently learned about the upcoming loss of funding for Families Helping Families of Greater. I would like you to include a funding allocation at the June BESE meeting to ensure Families Helping Families continues to receive the funding they need to support families like mine.
This center has been invaluable to my family and others trying to understand special education. The support we received is irreplaceable, and without it, many families, including mine, will be left without the support and guidance we desperately need.
Families Helping Families helped my family understand our rights when the school district refused to provide services my child was legally entitled to. Your partnership with Families Helping Families of GNO is one of the most valuable partnership you have and if anything, you would be providing additional funding - not eliminating funding.
(Add any additional information specific to your family.)
I urge you to recognize the vital role Families Helping Families plays in the lives of families with children with disabilities. The continuation of funding for them is crucial to maintain the support families need.
Please take immediate action to continue using the federal funding you've used for over 20 years to fund Families Helping Families.

Part 1: Bad Blood
Several things I will state with all my heart. I never cheated on a girlfriend. It might make someone feel better to assume or imply I have been unfaithful but it is simply not true. Maybe there were reasons for a breakup. Maybe the heart moved on. Perhaps feelings changed. I am truly saddened that anything would potentially cause you to think less of me. For those who have expressed concern over the '27 second' phone call, I called to discuss feelings with the other person. Those feelings were obviously not well received. I did not end the conversation. Someone else did. Phone calls can only last as long as the person on the other end of the line is willing to talk."

Role of IMF in Impoverishing Countries
The Communists communist party of great britain (marxist-leninist) Argentina Role of the IMF in impoverishing countries – the case of Argentina How the imperialists use the debt trap to loot the wealth of and enforce their hegemony over oppressed nations.
Imposed by executives in sharp suits and air conditioned offices, the conditions attached to IMF ‘loans’ (funds that very rarely reach the people of an indebted country) amount to a brutal war on the poor and a demand that all the resources of their country should be funnelled to the corporate bloodsuckers in the imperialist heartlands.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) was founded at the Bretton Woods conference in July 1944. This financial agency presents an image of itself as a democratic organisation that works “to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity for all of its 190 member countries … by supporting economic policies that promote financial stability and monetary cooperation”. Nothing could be further from reality, however. Not only is the IMF not a democratic organisation but, as this article will show, the policies that it promotes favour only a handful of countries. The decisions of the IMF are related to the ownership of SDRs (special drawing rights), known as the ‘quota’, which by reflecting the relative position of a country in the world economy, determines its voting power. Thanks to this self-perpetuating formula, the United States commands 16.5 percent of IMF votes, while the G7 countries combined (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, United States) command 41.25 percent. In a nutshell, the imperialist countries collectively, and in practice the dominant US imperialists, decide IMF policies, while the 171 non-imperialist countries that together hold less than half of the votes, have to obey them. The cure-all panacea of the IMF for any economy has always been ‘austerity’. In bourgeoise economic lingo, this is euphemistically referred to as ‘fiscal consolidation’ – a process aimed at ‘closing the gap’ between public income and public expenditure. In plain language, this inevitably means slashing pensions, healthcare and education services; cutting the salaries of doctors, teachers and other public servants; selling off publicly owned companies to international investors; cutting taxes to the benefit of corporations and banks; and implementing a raft of macroeconomic policies that will favour international finance capital. To implement these policies, the IMF relies on a so-called ‘surveillance process’, defined as “monitoring the economic and financial policies of member countries and providing them with policy advice … by recommending appropriate policy adjustments”. This in turn must be facilitated by a suitably servile comprador bourgeoise, whose members are willing to assist in this process of looting in return for a few tasty morsels from the imperialist banqueting table, all while the masses are being reduced to destitution. In his powerful The Open Veins of Latin America, Eduardo Galeano pointed out: “With the magical incantation of ‘monetary stabilisation’, the IMF – which not disinterestedly confuses the fever with the disease, inflation with the crisis of existing structures – has imposed on Latin America a policy that accentuates imbalances instead of easing them … liberalises trade by banning direct exchanges … forces the contraction of internal credits … freezes wages, discourages state activity. To this programme it adds sharp monetary devaluations.” (1971, p220) The people of Latin America, Africa and Asia have been suffering from IMF-imposed austerity for decades. For Argentina, the story of deception via its external debt started earlier. In 1824, Buenos Aires negotiated a loan with Britain’s Baring Brothers & Co bank. From the £1m agreed, the country received only £570,000 – not in gold as had been agreed but in paper notes agreeing the sale of British commodities at a price of their choosing! The interest on this extremely one-sided loan soaked up most of the country’s revenues for several decades. After successive rounds of refinancing the, ‘loan’ had been inflated to £4m, and was finally paid off 124 years after it was taken out by the government of Juan Perón in 1947. At the time of writing, yet another debt crisis is creating the conditions for the complete collapse of Argentina’s economy. As has happened at other times of harsh neoliberal austerity regimes (1976-83, 1989-99 and 2015-19), Argentina looks as though it is heading for bankruptcy. The military junta and Argentina’s first neoliberal experiment The military coup of March 1976 provided the opportunity to implement neoliberal policies for the first time in Argentina. During the junta’s rule (1976-83), the country’s industrial base was destroyed, 20,000 manufacturing businesses were closed, and the value added by Argentinean industry, including construction, as a percentage of GDP dropped from 50.89 in 1976 to 41.55 percent in 1983. As a result, the once strong and organised proletariat, which had fought fiercely against dictatorships earlier in the century, disappeared and many workers’ rights were eliminated. As the country moved from production to financial profiteering, the masses were impoverished as the country’s wealth was hoovered up by big corporations and international financial institutions. Before being kidnaped and murdered, Argentine writer Rodolfo Walsh wrote to the military junta: “The economic policies of this junta – which follow the formula of the International Monetary Fund that has been applied indiscriminately to Zaire and Chile, to Uruguay and Indonesia – recognise only the following as beneficiaries: the old ranchers’ oligarchy; the new speculating oligarchy; and a select group of international monopolies headed by ITT, Esso, the automobile industry, US Steel, and Siemens, which Minister Martinez de Hoz and his entire cabinet have personal ties to.” (24 March 1977) During this process, thousands of Argentineans were detained, tortured and killed, and people around the globe learned a new word: “desaparecidos” (the disappeared). Thanks to the good will of the IMF, Argentina’s external debt grew from $7.9bn in 1976 to $46bn in 1983. As one of its last acts in government, the junta nationalised all private debt, making the people of the country responsible for loans taken out by bankers and landowners. Unable to pay this huge debt, Argentina has never been in a ‘normal’ state since; its ‘external debt’ became an ‘eternal debt’, dictating every aspect of economic and social life. Democracy returns but the eternal debt remains In 1983, the first democratically elected government following the junta decided not to reject the external debt inherited dictatorship but to honour it. Thus the government of Raúl Alfonsín, which had incarcerated the junta criminals for their human rights abuses continued the junta’s policy of surrendering control of the economy to the IMF and its monitoring missions. As Fidel Castro correctly pointed out in 1985: “How can a government and a country that has to go every month to discuss with the International Monetary Fund what it is able to do at home be called independent? It is a fiction of independence, and we see this as a national-liberation struggle, which can truly bring together, and for the first time in the history of our hemisphere, all social strata in a struggle to achieve true independence.” Between 1984-88, IMF-imposed policies continued to be enacted, to the benefit of imperialist corporations and financiers. The result was that, despite some success in curbing inflation for a short period in 1985-86, the economy never recovered. In 1989, the Alfonsín government’s last year in office, the IMF withdrew financial support to Argentina in response to missed interest payments, pushing the country into a crisis. Inflation became hyperinflation (reaching a high of more than 3,000 percent annually) and elections were called six months early. In the end, thanks to the recommended policies of the IMF, the debt continued to grow from the $46bn that had been inherited in 1983 to $65bn in 1989. Everything was ready for a second neoliberal experiment. How a popular leader become a neoliberal After the failure of the Alfonsín government, the new president was elected on a platform of social justice, promising to defend jobs, salaries and publicly-owned companies, and to improve the life of millions in the tradition of Peronism. Having been installed in office, however, he changed sides and become the president of the landowners, big corporations and banks. With the support of the IMF, Carlos Menem (1989-99) implemented the recommendations of the ‘Washington consensus’ and applied the mantra of neoliberalism: privatisations, cuts to social expenditure, and further opening of the economy. The first step was to sell off all the publicly-owned companies that had been created through the efforts of several generations of Argentinians. Gas, oil, electricity, telephone, water, airlines and railroads all disappeared as public assets, their wealth being transferred so as to make foreign corporations and corrupt politicians richer at the expense, once again, of the Argentine people. This was followed by a cut in public social expenditure via reductions in spending on education, healthcare and social security, and via the privatisation of state-held pensions assets. Finally, the import duties were slashed, to the benefit of overseas monopoly corporations, allowing foreign goods to flood Argentina’s internal market. The consequent destruction of Argentinean industry, as initiated by the military junta, was now complete. To sustain these policies, the government set a one-to-one exchange rate between the US dollar and the local currency (known as the convertibility law), allowing foreign investors to exchange dollars for pesos, invest the pesos at an interest rate higher than the global IRR (internal rate of return) and then, months later, convert the pesos back to dollars. This operation, known as carry-trade, favoured big investors from around the world to the further detriment of the country’s finances, and was supported by the IMF, which continued lending money to Argentina. In the final years of the Menem government, the country’s economy deteriorated rapidly, poverty and inflation increased, and the country fell into a deep recession in 1998. Corruption was rampant, and anti-government resistance through the first organised cacerolazos (people making noise by banging pots or pans to protest) was on the rise. The IMF had done its job well. During this period, Argentina’s external debt grew to 133 percent of GDP, from $65bn in 1989 to $152bn ten years later. The second neoliberal experiment was reaching its end. Elections and the 2001 collapse The next government arrived promising to resolve the economic crises and fight corruption. Under the direction of the IMF, however, it continued to apply all the same policies that had failed the country before. In August 2001, as foreign deposits were leaving the country, Argentina was unable to pay the interest on its debt and requested an extension of the arrangement. IMF managing director Horst Köhler demanded the substitution of the local currency by the US dollar, and while the government hesitated, the IMF withdrew support. As the economy plummeted, money withdrawals increased, and the government decided to freeze all bank deposits (a measure known as the corralito). Popular protest increased and, incapable of resolving the crisis, the government announced a state of siege. During the ensuing December riots, 36 people were killed by police in the streets. President Fernando de la Rua (1989-2001) resigned on 20 December, and the crisis-hit country had five presidents during the two weeks that followed. Under the slogan “All of them must go!” (Que se vayan todos!), millions of people participated in neighbourhood assemblies, occupying unused land and implementing workers’ self-management in hundreds of factories. In the end, Argentina defaulted on its public debt (at that time $152bn), abandoned the fixed exchange rate by devaluing the peso (40 percent in January to around 300 percent at the end of the first semester of 2002), with the result that production collapsed and high levels of unemployment and poverty become the norm. IMF out of Argentina After the 2001 default, the new government of Nestor Kirchner (2003-07) developed a strategy for undermining the neoliberal agenda that had been responsible for the country’s economic collapse. His government worked to eliminate the permanent interference, recommendations and pressure from the IMF. In 2005, to the dismay of the financial centres, the President Hugo Chávez strengthened Venezuela’s relationship with Argentina. The Bolivarian government bought $2.4bn of Argentina’s debt, providing a welcome boost to the central bank reserves and helping the country to break its dependency on the IMF for debt refinancing. By repaying in full the $9.81bn owed to the IMF, Argentina gained financial independence from the institution’s endless negotiations and recommendations, all of which were unfailingly unfavourable in social and economic terms to Argenina’s people. The repayment followed a similar move by President Lula da Silva of Brazil, whose Workers party government had paid off its IMF debt in full two days earlier. For the first time, Latin America’s two largest economies were in a position to develop social policies that would improve the life of their people. As President Kirchner pointed out: “With this payment, we bury an ignominious past of eternal, infinite indebtedness.” The volume of the inherited external debt didn’t change with the payment to the IMF, but it did allow the government to pursue more independent policies. During the 12-year Kirchner period (Nestor Kirchner’s presidency [2003-07] was followed by two terms of office for his wife Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner [2007-11 and 2011-15]), Argentina implemented economic measures outside the neoliberal toolbox and built a political consensus through a discourse of social justice, economic independence and national autonomy. The economy improved, with GDP up by 62 percent and the value of exports by 81 percent. Unemployment and poverty were significantly reduced, and the government renationalised some of the key sectors that had been privatised during the neoliberal years, the most relevant being Argentina’s national oil company (YPF). The Kirchner government also restructured 93 percent of the country’s foreign debt, on it had defaulted in 2001. A small group of ‘vulture funds’ had acquired credit default swaps (CDS) against Argentinean bonds and $1.3bn of the bonds’ total value for cents, and they pursued the country via various courts in an unceasing quest for full payment. Much to the imperialists’ chagrin, the Kirchner governments never gave in to the vulture funds’ rapacity. Return of the IMF In 2015, the Peronist movement went to the elections divided into different factions, and the election was won by Mauricio Macri (2015-19) supported by a right-wing neoliberal coalition. A third neoliberal experiment was begun in Argentina. During the first 60 days of his government, President Macri paid off the vulture funds, reversed most of the social policies implemented during the Kirchner period, and reintroduced the carry-trade policies that had failed the country in the past – all to the benefit of international finance capital. To fund this massive transfer of wealth, the government increased its external debt once more, from $153bn at the end of 2014 to $280bn in 2019 – an increase of 83 percent in only four years! In June 2018, the Macri government asked the IMF for help, reaching an agreement on a 36-month stand-by arrangement (SBA) amounting to US$50bn (equivalent to about 1,110 percent of Argentina’s quota in the IMF), what has become known as the biggest loan ever in the history of the IMF. IMF managing director Christine Lagarde congratulated the Argentine authorities on reaching this agreement, stating: “The plan owned and designed by the Argentine government is aimed at strengthening the economy for the benefit of all Argentines.” The speed with which the agreement was reached led many to speculate that the intervention of US president Donald Trump in support of the loan was aimed at helping Macri to win the upcoming 2019 elections, giving him some leeway to make investments in social infrastructure. Nothing was further from reality, however: none of the promised schools, hospitals or roads were ever built. The money disappeared in capital flight, in paying dividends to overseas corporations, and in boosting the profit margins of financial institutions. As even the IMF’s own ex-post facto evaluation report admitted: “The programme did not deliver on its objectives … mounting redemptions, along with capital flight by residents, put considerable pressure on the exchange rate.” The result was that “the exchange rate continued to depreciate, increasing inflation and the peso value of public debt, weakening real incomes, especially of the poor”. In 2019, the Peronist ‘Frente de Todos’ (Alberto Fernandez and Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner) coalition won the elections for the period 2019-23, and millions hoped for the reversal of Macri’s policies. Sadly, it was not to be. Failure of the Fernandez government Right at the outset, the new government committed a cardinal sin. Instead of repudiating Macri’s IMF agreement, it accepted this vast inherited debt. The ideological limitations of Peronism were clearly revealed, and became a major obstacle to country’s development and to the welfare of millions of Argentinean people. Accepting the IMF agreement, and without any investigation into how this vast sum had been used, the government accepted IMF monitoring missions and found itself forced to limit its plans to implement progressive macroeconomic policies, conduct an independent foreign policy and invest in social services. Recognition of the IMF debt put the government into a trap, as had happened so many times in the past, and Argentine once again became a slave to impossible repayment commitments. The clock for the next economic crisis was ticking again. According to the government, the main causes of the economic debacle were the three consecutive years of drought that affected agricultural production, the mandatory lockdown and social distancing measures for the Covid pandemic, and to a lesser extent the war in Europe. But government and bourgeois politicians of all stripes failed to acknowledge the core of the problem: the IMF and the external debt that had been taken on by the previous government. Neoliberal policies return to Argentina with a vengeance With the victory of Javier Milei (2023), Argentina is returning once again to the bad old days, beginning its fourth neoliberal experiment. During the first days of the Milei government, the local currency was devaluated by 100 percent, public investment in infrastructure was suspended, barriers to the import of goods and services were removed with no consideration to the impact on jobs, energy prices were raised, subsidies for the poorest were reduced, and thousands of public employees were made redundant. At the same time, a complete alliance was declared with the USA, and now Israel, the country’s planned entry into the Brics group was cancelled, and a vociferous discourse was mounted against every progressive government in the region. The IMF was delighted. As director of communications Julie Kozack stated in December 2023: “IMF staff welcome the measures announced earlier today by Argentina’s new economy minister Luis Caputo. These bold initial actions aim to significantly improve public finances in a manner that protects the most vulnerable in society and strengthens the foreign exchange regime. Their decisive implementation will help stabilise the economy and set the basis for more sustainable and private sector-led growth.” In reality, of course, these measures are resulting in mass impoverishment, as reported by the Social Debt Observatory of the UCA (Catholic University of Argentina), which has declared poverty to be at a 20-year high (57.4 percent). This means that 27 million people are now considered poor in Argentina, while extreme poverty is affecting 15 percent of the population. Through a 664-clause bill, President Milei is pushing for further reforms that will destroy the existing social and economic structure of the country in favour of landowners, international corporations and finance capital. The bill will erase worker’s rights that have taken decades to achieve, while also curtailing the right to protest – with penalties of up to six years in prison for participants and organisers of demonstrations. By declaring a state of emergency, Milei is demanding absolute power to govern without the involvement of Congress, following in the steps of Adolf Hitler, who in 1933 pushed the Nazis’ Enabling Act through the Reichstag, granting himself absolute power to make and enforce laws without further parliamentary involvement. Right-wing backbenchers support the bill, while other sections of Argentina’s bourgeois political parties are testing the waters, sometimes mildly confronting the bill or requesting minor changes. Although the majority of backbenchers for UxP (Union por la Patria) are opposed to the bill, changing sides is not an unknown feature of bourgeois political life. Unable to trust backbenchers, Argentina’s main CGT (General Confederation of Workers) trade union has appealed successfully to the National Labour Court, challenging the constitutionality of the labour legislation contained in the proposed law. Since President Milei is refusing to accept any change to the proposed bill, even his supporters are rethinking their position in each of the bill’s clauses. In the latest developments, after some defeats the bill was sent back for further study, constituting a temporary defeat for the government. But this is a war against the people and there is no place or time for complacency. Without a clear political direction, the masses of Argentina are marching again, as in the economic crisis of 2001, to defend their basic rights. Within two months of the installation of a new government, cacerolazos and demonstrations had become the new normality. Those progressive forces who are debating whether or not the time is ripe to confront the government, would do well to remember the apt observation of Juan Perón: “People will march with their leaders at the head or with the heads of the leaders.”

2024.05.28 07:56 kaksahi_copy_ninja iOS 18, with AI superpowers, is coming to make your iPhone an AI powerhouse

Apple's WWDC will be its most anticipated event in a decade. Here’s how Cupertino plans to rollout AI-infused features to iPhone. In less than a few weeks, Apple CEO Tim Cook will take the stage to share the company’s AI strategy at what might be the biggest Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in a decade. Big names, including OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google, have all hosted events in the last few weeks where AI headlined the major announcements. It’s time for Apple to make significant generative artificial intelligence announcements and share the progress it has made to keep up with its rivals in Big Tech. As a consumer, keep your eyes open for what the next iOS update, iOS 18, brings to the iPhone. iOS 18, as many believe, could supercharge the iPhone by bringing AI to the center while also introducing major new features and designs.
Here are the notable changes coming to iOS 18.
Voice memo transcription Apple has been working on bringing an AI-powered transcription feature to Voice Memos. This allows the app to automatically transcribe audio to text, making it useful for students and journalists alike. Pixel phones also have the ability to transcribe voice notes using AI through an app called Recorder. While it’s an Android app, it’s exclusive to the Pixel. Although Siri has been around since iOS 5 in 2011, the voice assistant hasn’t improved significantly over the years. This, however, may change with iOS 18, which will introduce a smarter Siri using generative AI technology. Expect Siri to have more natural-sounding interactions based on Apple’s own large language models, allowing the voice assistant to respond to simple voice commands for more complex tasks. If that happens, Siri will finally transition to a more intelligent voice assistant that’s actually useful in daily life. Custom emojis
iOS 17.4 New emojis introduced on iOS 17.4 update
Perhaps the standout feature of iOS 18 could be a new way to create emojis using AI. Apparently, the next iOS 18 update might introduce users to something called “custom emojis.” Simply put, the feature works based on what users are texting. That means the AI will do the heavy work in the background, and just by texting, you could have a new emoji for any reaction. To be clear, this would expand the catalogue of options that Apple currently offers on the iPhone.
Gen AI improvements coming to Apple’s core apps
Apart from a smarter Siri and the Voice Memos app gaining an AI-based transcription feature, Apple is expected to bring the touch of AI to every core application it offers on the iPhone, including Safari, Photos, and Notes. For example, the Notes app is said to gain the ability to record and transcribe audio, as well as generate AI-powered summaries. Meanwhile, the Photos app will reportedly gain the same set of features that Google currently offers, such as Magic Editor. Changes are also coming to Safari, which may have an improved web search. Apple is also working on smart recaps of missed notifications, individual messages, web pages, news articles, documents, notes, and more. Redesigned homescreen
iOS 18 Apple might make icons more rounded with iOS 18.
The home screen on the iPhone has remained largely the same, and although Apple has made it more customizable, iOS 18 is expected to bring the next evolution of the iOS home screen. What’s supposed to change with iOS 18 is how users can place icons freely, rather than being confined to the current fixed, aligned grid. Specifically, iOS 18 will allow users to change the colour of app icons. For instance, they could make all their social networking apps have a blue colour and all their finance apps have a green colour
On-device AI vs Cloud
short article insertMany of the apps and features coming to iOS 18 will be powered by AI. For that, Apple’s own large language models (LLMs) will be running in the background to power the generative AI features. The on-device AI approach that Apple is betting on comes with certain benefits, such as better privacy and faster response times, since the data doesn’t have to be transmitted to the cloud. However, this approach may also make Apple’s AI tools less suitable for tasks like powering a chatbot or features that require heavy AI processing. In that case, Apple may collaborate with OpenAI or Google and use their expertise to bring advanced AI technology to the iPhone and other “i” devices.
Apple may label iOS 18 AI features as a “beta preview
Unlike Microsoft and Google, which continuously release new AI features at breakneck speed, Apple may adopt a cautious approach to how it wants to release AI-powered features to iPhone users. With the recent rollout of Google’s AI search tools having a tendency to produce flubs and fabrications, Apple may be thinking of taking it slowly and using beta labels judiciously. This means the AI features Apple plans to roll out at WWDC next month will come as a “beta preview”. This is another sign that AI cannot be trusted blindly.
Not all iPhones will support Apple’s upcoming “AI features”
Perhaps the biggest question is if Apple will bring new AI features to every iPhone, even as old as the iPhone 11. Well, that’s not going to happen. Apparently, on-device AI may only be available for newer Apple devices, like the latest one or two generations of iPhone, iPad, and Mac. But what about those who still use the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13? For now, at least, it is safe to assume those devices won’t get the latest AI features. However, Apple may try to bring its marquee AI features to older devices using the cloud.
When is Apple’s WWDC?
Apple will most likely give an update on its long-anticipated AI roadmap at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which will be online from June 10 to 14. Apple often announces new features and updates for its operating systems across devices, such as the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and more. Cook has already indicated that Apple is “well positioned” in the AI space and he expects how AI can bring “big opportunities across our products.”

Apple inks deal with OpenAI for AI features, Google could be next: Report
Apple has, reportedly, agreed on a deal with Microsoft-backed OpenAI to integrate its artificial intelligence-powered ChatGPT into the upcoming iOS 18 for iPhones. However, according to a report by Bloomberg, the Cupertino-based technology giant is also pursuing a deal with Google to offer Gemini AI as an option. According to the report, Apple is not comfortable with OpenAI as a “single-source supplier” for AI features on iOS. This stance may have been further strengthened by the recent allegations from Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson who accused OpenAI of using a voice that bore “striking resemblance” with hers for a new voice feature in its new AI model. Furthermore, Bloomberg has reported stating that OpenAI currently has a precarious corporate structure – the company’s CEO was briefly ousted last year, marking a crisis for its employees and Microsoft. This and other factors may be why Cupertino-based technology giant is seeking a deal with Google to place Gemini as an alternative to ChatGPT. However, even if both the companies come to an agreement, it is unlikely that Apple will introduce Gemini-powered features with its iOS 18. At its annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) which is scheduled for June 10, the partnership with OpenAI will likely be a key component. Apple is reportedly integrating OpenAI’s ChatGPT within its upcoming operating systems for iPhones, iPads and MacBooks. This partnership would also give Apple a competitive edge against the likes of Samsung that has partnered with Google to offer Gemini powered AI features in its products. Apple has also been reportedly developing its own chatbot, powered by an indigenous large language model (LLM) which is referred to as “Ajax” internally. However, Apple is reportedly sceptical about it and its capabilities for competing against rivals such as Google, Microsoft and more. Partnership with third-party service providers such as OpenAI will likely buy Apple some time to make its own AI model competitive.

2024.05.27 16:47 mrspain5210 I (31M) started CRNA school. My life has been consumed by it and my wife (36F) is upset. How do I balance my life and help her understand the magnitude of the program?

I (31M) got accepted into multiple CRNA schools. During the pandemic, my wife (36F) bought a house in another state. I chose the school closest to that house so we could be close to her family and live in her home. I had better school options, but we decided this school for our lives and convenience for her.
Unfortunately after the pandemic, her job wanted her back in the office, so we were stuck in the state we lived in, not with the house she bought. I just started the anesthesia program earlier this month, moved into the house she bought a few years ago. We had to do long distance for a few weeks. The program is INTENSE. The program is for 3 years and this is my main priority now. I have expressed this to my wife. While I started the program, she was still in another state. We were talking on the phone everyday and she was getting upset that I wasn't talking with her long enough. Just quick little study breaks. I tried to talk with her longer even though it got in the way of my school work.
Luckily, my wife found a job near the house. She starts the first week in June and moved back in yesterday. We haven't seen each other for 2.5 weeks. She wanted to spend time together, but I can't. I have 4 big exams this week. We had already agreed to get away this upcoming weekend to a hotel and enjoy a day together after my exams. Now she is upset at me, again because I can't spend time with her.
I am trying my best to balance my home life and school life. But his program has consumed my life and will consume it for 3 years. It is a lot of work, but the payout will be amazing once I graduate and pass boards.
Divorce rate is high in these types of programs. I don't want to be a statistic. I know it's been a tough and sudden transition. I went to always being available to whatever she needed, to now being mostly absent. I know it's hard on her. But we're not even 1 month into the program and we are already fighting. How do I further express to her that school is my number 1 priority for the next 3 years? What are strategies to improve work-life balance?
TL;DR - I (31M) got accepted into multiple CRNA schools. The school I chose to attend was not my top choice, but my wife's (36F) because of a house she bought a few years ago and that her family lives close. I started the program earlier this month and it is intense. It has consumed my life and will consume it for the next 3 years. We had to do long distance for a few weeks because her job was in another state. She just moved back in yesterday because she found a new job. I have 4 exams this week. She wanted to spend time together, but I can't because I am overloaded. We are going to a hotel for 1:1 time after my exams this week. She is very upset with me and we have been fighting. How do I express to her that school is my top priority? What are strategies for work-life balance during an intense program like this?

2024.05.27 16:00 sonofabutch No game today, so let's remember a forgotten Yankee: Dave Eiland

"I worked really hard to be mediocre. But I studied. When I lay my head on my pillow, I’m very satisfied, not so much with my record or my numbers, but I know I gave it everything I had every day." -- Dave Eiland
Who is the only player in major league history to give up a home run to the first batter he faced, and to hit a home run against the first pitcher he faced? It's not Babe Ruth, it's not Shohei Ohtani, it's not even Roy Hobbs. It's Dave Eiland!
David William Eiland was born July 5, 1966, in Dade City, Florida. He was an all-conference football and baseball at Zephyrhills High School and then attended the University of Florida on a scholarship to play baseball and football, but an injury his freshman year ended his NFL dreams and he focused on baseball. He then transferred to the University of South Florida, where he was an All-Sun Belt Conference player and a preseason All-American in 1987. He also played for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
The Yankees drafted Eiland in the 7th round, #185 overall, of the 1987 draft. He rose quickly through the Yankee system, jumping from Low-A to A-ball in his debut season of 1987; he went a combined 9-3 with a 1.87 ERA and 0.960 WHIP in 91.2 innings.
The following year he started in Double-A, where he was an Eastern League All-Star after going 9-5 with a 2.56 ERA and 0.980 WHIP in 119.1 innings, and was promoted to Triple-A Columbus, where he made just one start before getting the call: The soon-to-be 37-year-old Ron Guidry pulled his hamstring and was going on the Disabled List. Eiland was called up to take his place in the rotation.
Eiland's debut on August 3, 1988, was against the Brewers in Milwaukee, and the first batter he faced was future Hall of Famer Paul Molitor. The third baseman welcomed the 22-year-old rookie to the Show by cranking a 1-2 slider to deep left-center for a home run.
"It was the first batter. It only counts for one run." -- Dave Eiland
Eiland settled down after that, allowing just two more hits and two walks in seven innings. But then Eiland's leg started cramping up -- in the sixth, manager Lou Piniella and trainer Gene Monahan went to the mound to check on him -- and he was pulled after the seventh inning. Closer Dave Righetti came in to get the final six outs in a game the Yankees were winning 5-1, and he was bombed for five runs on five hits while retiring just one batter, and the Yankees lost, 6-5.
Eiland made two more starts that year, but he lasted a total of just 5.2 innings while surrendering eight runs on 12 hits, two walks, and two hit batters. The big problem, as demonstrated by the very first batter he faced in the majors, was the long ball -- Eiland gave up five in those 5.2 innings!
The Yankees sent Eiland back down to Columbus after his start on August 17, and he spent the rest of the season down there. The following year he started in Triple-A again. The Yankees called him up in June and again he looked pretty good in his first start, holding the Texas Rangers to three runs over seven innings and getting his first major league win. But over the rest of the season he went 0-3 in five starts, with a 6.26 ERA and 1.683 WHIP in 27.1 innings (and giving up five home runs). Once again he rode the "Columbus Shuttle" and he spent the rest of the season in the minors, and began the 1990 season down there as well.
Eiland -- still just 23 years old -- dominated in Columbus that season, going 16-5 with a 2.87 ERA and 1.067 WHIP. He was named the International League Pitcher of the Year, and the Yankees made him a September call-up. He finally looked good enough in pinstripes -- 2-1, 3.56 ERA, 1.187 WHIP in 30.1 innings -- that he looked like he'd stick the next season.
He opened 1991 in the rotation, joining previously forgotten Yankee Tim Leary, Scott Sanderson, Chuck Cary, and Andy Hawkins... yikes. It was not a fun time to be a Yankee fan.
Eiland went 1-3 with a 4.75 ERA in nine starts before hurting his heel in May and going on the Disabled List. He came back in August, got two more starts -- giving up 11 runs in 8.2 innings -- and was put in the bullpen. (Eiland later said he came back before he'd fully recovered because he wanted to help the team.) He was given two starts at the end of the year, and looked pretty good -- in 12.0 innings, he gave up just three runs on nine hits and a walk.
But that winter, the Yankees made a series of roster moves, signing free agents Danny Tartabull and previously forgotten Yankees Mike Gallego and Mike Stanley; trading Steve Sax to the White Sox for Melido Perez, previously forgotten Yankee Bob Wickman, and Domingo Jean; and acquiring Charlie Hayes from the Phillies for Darrin Chapin. They needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Eiland was designated for assignment, and he didn't like it.
"As far as I'm concerned, it was a stupid move on the part of the Yankees and I'm looking forward to leaving. I've done a lot more for them than some of the people they have kept. I guess I didn't fit into their plans. It doesn't make sense." -- Dave Eiland
He was promptly signed by the Padres, who put him at the end of their rotation for the upcoming 1992 season.
Eiland started the fifth game of the year against the Los Angeles Dodgers in San Diego. He allowed an RBI double to future Yankee Darryl Strawberry in the 1st inning, but future Yankee Gary Sheffield tied it up with an RBI triple in the bottom of the 1st. Eiland retired the side in order in the top of the 2nd.
In the bottom of the 2nd, a walk followed by two outs brought up Eiland with a man on second base. He was facing yet another future Yankee, Bob Ojeda, and drilled a 2-2 pitch to left-center for a two-run home run!
As Eiland had been in the American League his first four seasons -- no interleague play then -- he'd never come up as a batter before. And so he became the first player to allow a home run to the first batter he faced, and to hit a home run against the first pitcher he faced. It would be the only home run of his career.
"It was a fluke. I wish people would talk about my pitching instead of my hitting." -- Dave Eiland
Eiland pitched two seasons in San Diego, going 0-5 with a 5.38 ERA in 16 starts and one relief appearance. They released him the following May, and he signed with the Cleveland Indians. They sent him to Triple-A, where he made eight starts with the Charlotte Knights (1-3, 5.30 ERA) before being traded to the Texas Rangers, who kept him in Triple-A for the rest of the season (3-1, 4.54 ERA). A free agent after the season, he signed with the Yankees during spring training in 1994 and spent the next two seasons back in Columbus, going 9-6 with a 3.58 ERA in 1994 and 8-7 with a 3.14 ERA in 1995. The Yankees called him up on July 21 and he made one start and three relief appearances, going 1-1 with a 6.30 ERA in 10.0 innings.
He signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals for the 1996 season and pitched in eight games, going 0-1 with a 5.55 ERA in 24.1 innings, before getting released in June. Three days later he returned to the Yankees for a third stint, going 8-4 with a 2.92 ERA in Columbus in 15 starts. He was a September call-up for that magical 1996 season, but never got into a game.
Returning to the Yankees on a minor-league deal in 1997, the 30-year-old Eiland battled tendinitis and went 5-3 with a 6.42 ERA in 81.1 innings across three levels.
Eiland spent the next three years of his major league career in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization, splitting his time between the majors and minors as a swingman. He went 6-12 with a 6.54 ERA and 1.663 WHIP in 137.2 innings with the Devil Rays.
After the 2000 season, Eiland signed a minor league deal with the Oakland A's, but he tore his elbow and missed the entire season after getting Tommy John surgery. An attempted comeback in 2002 was ended when he retore the same ligament 51 weeks later. In those days, a second Tommy John surgery was thought to be a death sentence for a pitcher's elbow. Rather than attempting another comeback, he retired to become a pitching coach.
In interviews, Eiland -- with a career 12-27 record, with a 5.74 ERA and 1.563 WHIP -- said his major league struggles forced him to be a student of the game, and that would serve him well as a pitching coach.
“I didn’t have the God-given ability to get over the hump, so to speak. I kept getting chances because I did my work and I think that helps me in the coaching aspect. I work with guys now who have ability. I can teach them how to work, how to study film, how to read swings, how to attack guys.” -- Dave Eiland
He was a minor league pitching coach at various levels with the Yankees from 2003 to 2007, and was credited with helping the minor league development of the Yankees' trio of promising pitching prospects -- Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, and Ian Kennedy.
After Joe Girardi replaced Joe Torre as Yankee manager in 2008, Eiland was named the team's pitching coach, a position he held for three seasons. He earned a ring as the pitching coach of the 2009 World Series champions.
Eiland's contract was not renewed after the 2010 season, with Brian Cashman giving the cryptic explanation: "He knows why. He was given conditions that needed to be followed. So he knows why." In June of that season, Eiland had taken a three-week leave of absence from the Yankees which was never explained beyond it being a family issue.
After the Yankees, Eiland worked in the Tampa Bay Rays' front office and then was a pitching coach for the Royals from 2012 to 2017 (winning a second World Series ring as a coach in 2015). He served as Mets pitching coach in 2018 and 2019, and Jacob deGrom, Zack Wheeler, and Steven Matz credited their improvement as pitchers to his guidance. In 2020 he managed the Eastern Reyes del Tigre in the independent Constellation Energy League. In 2021 he was a pitching coach in the independent Atlantic League, and in 2022 and 2023, a pitching coach for the Miami Marlins' Double-A team.
Eiland is now Head of Baseball for Grand Central Sports Management.
Eiland Living
"It's about perseverance. Hard work pays off. Maybe not right away, maybe not overnight. But eventually, it does." -- Dave Eiland
Ten seasons in the Show means a lot to ballplayers. Ten seasons means you're fully vested in the pension plan. It also means you are eligible to appear on the Hall of Fame ballot (though the Baseball Writers' Association of America doesn't have to put you on the ballot, and they didn't put Eiland on it). Dave Eiland, a pitcher who described himself as someone who "worked really hard to be mediocre," worked hard enough to last 10 seasons in the majors, and that's pretty impressive.
He's also the answer to a cool trivia question and was in a pretty good baseball movie.
Definitely a Yankee worth remembering!

VANCOUVER, BC / ACCESSWIRE / May 23, 2024 / Stillwater Critical Minerals Corp. (TSX.V:PGE)(OTCQB:PGEZF)(FSE:J0G) (the "Company" or "Stillwater") is pleased to provide a first tranche of drill results from resource expansion drilling completed at the Company's flagship Stillwater West Ni-PGE-Cu-Co + Au project in Montana in 2023.
The campaign was funded by a June 2023 strategic equity investment by Glencore Canada Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Glencore plc ("Glencore"). Glencore has also provided on-going technical support to the project through the technical committee which included multiple site visits and assistance with geological and geophysical interpretations. As announced May 1, 2024, Glencore made an additional investment in Stillwater, bringing them to a 15.4% equity position in the Company for total funds of approximately $7.05 million to date.
Highlights
  • Six holes totaling 2,310 meters were completed with a focus on expanding deposits at the west end of the current nine-kilometer-long Stillwater West resource area.
  • Holes CM2023-04, -05 and -06, reported here, successfully intercepted magmatic nickel and copper sulphide mineralization associated with a large and previously untested electromagnetic ("EM") anomaly that forms part of a string of anomalies extending over 12 kilometers along strike, as predicted by the Company's geologic model.
  • Results demonstrate significant potential to expand the 2023 Mineral Resource Estimate ("MRE") at three cut-off grades, with wide widths of higher-grade mineralization at >0.70% recovered Nickel Equivalent ("NiEq") cut-off grade contained within thick mid-grade intervals at >0.35% NiEq cut-off that are in turn set within long lengths of potential bulk tonnage mineralization at >0.20% NiEq cut-off grade, including:
    • CM2023-04:
      • Bulk tonnage: 98.8 meters @ 0.27% NiEq (97.2 to 196.0m);
      • Mid-grade: 44.0 meters @ 0.35% NiEq (100.7 to 144.7m);
      • High-grade: 2.6 meters @ 0.71% NiEq (110.7 to 113.3m).
    • CM2023-05:
      • Bulk tonnage: 293.8 meters @ 0.22% NiEq (247.5 to 541.3m) and 45.1 meters @ 0.33% NiEq (284.7 to 329.8m);
      • Mid-grade: 52.1 meters @ 0.49% NiEq (488.6 to 540.7m) and 14.9 meters @ 0.60% NiEq (508.7 to 523.6m);
      • High-grade: 4.8 meters @ 1.22% NiEq (492.0 to 496.8m).
    • CM2023-06:
      • Bulk tonnage: 158.9 meters @ 0.22% NiEq (160.8 to 319.7m);
      • Mid-grade: 25.9 meters @ 0.50% NiEq (251.2 to 277.1m);
      • High-grade: 5.8 meters @ 0.96% NiEq (259.7 to 265.5m).
  • Results continue to drive the first ever detailed geological model completed across the lower Stillwater Igneous Complex, with these results informing three mineralization styles in particular: broad Platreef-style Ni-PGE-Cu-Co mineralization associated with the 12-kilometer-long EM anomaly, nickel sulphide-rich N-series mineralization, and stratiform reef-type PGE-Ni-Cu chromitite mineralization, as detailed below.
  • Final assays are pending from holes CM2023-01, -02, and -03, in addition to rhodium assays.
  • All deposits and mineralization remain open for expansion in planned follow-up drilling.
  • The Company is looking at the potential to recover value from the ferrochrome content, driven by the 2.3-billion-pound chromium resource defined by the January 2023 MRE and historic production of chromium from the Stillwater district.

Dr. Danie Grobler, Vice President Exploration commented, "The Company had a 100% success rate during the 2023 season with six holes intersecting significant wide net-textured to semi-massive magmatic sulphides at predicted target depths. The successes attained with the 2023 drilling, guided by high-resolution geophysical surveys, have further increased our confidence in our detailed geological and structural models. High-resolution geophysics is also seen as pivotal in providing definitive EM target anomalies for future drilling campaigns. These deposits discovered proximal to the Stillwater Complex footwall are seen as analogous to the highly prospective multi-metal bearing mineralization-style, generally accepted, as characteristic of the Platreef of the Bushveld Complex. In addition, the first three holes drilled during the 2023 season, aimed at expanding upon initial interpretation of 2022 work, successfully intersected the N1 and N2 structures. These are thought to be related to distinctly sulphur-rich mineralization closely associated with the cross-cutting N-series structures identified during 2022. Assay results for these holes are pending and will be released in the near future."
Mineralization Styles
Results continue to drive the first ever detailed geological model of the lower Stillwater Igneous Complex. Informed by senior in-house expertise from similar geology in the Bushveld Igneous Complex, the Company's 3D geologic model demonstrated a very high success rate during the 2023 campaign, intersecting the following mineralization style:
1 - Platreef-style Ni-PGE-Cu-Co mineralization - The Stillwater West project covers the lower Stillwater Igneous Complex stratigraphy immediately adjacent to Sibanye-Stillwater's mining operations on the J-M Reef deposit, a 40km-long reef deposit that contains the highest palladium-platinum grades in the world, hosted within nickel-copper sulphide. Recognizing the geologic parallels with South Africa's Bushveld Igneous Complex, the Company has successfully defined large-scale deposits in Montana's Stillwater Igneous Complex that are directly analogous to the giant mines of the Platreef.
Production on the northern limb of the Bushveld, or Platreef, started in 1993 at Anglo American's Mogalakwena mines and will be joined by Ivanhoe's Platreef mine later this year. Although known primarily as a platinum group element mine, Mogalakwena is one of the largest nickel sulphide mines in the world and is the largest nickel producer in South Africa, in addition to producing a significant amount of copper. Ivanhoe's Platreef mine is projected to become the second largest nickel producer in South Africa.
The mines of the Platreef are attractive because they are among the largest and most profitable mines in the world. Their scale and grade allow the application of mechanized bulk mining methods with resulting economies of scale and low operating costs. These deposits also contain significant quantities of nickel, copper, and platinum group metals in a polymetallic combination that is globally very rare.
To date, the Company has modeled five deposits of Platreef-style mineralization in the lower Stillwater Igneous Complex, hosting a total of 1.6 billion pounds of nickel, copper and cobalt, and 3.8 million ounces of palladium, platinum, rhodium, and gold, as announced January 2023.
Expansion drilling in 2023 confirmed Platreef-style mineralization in the first ever drill tests of an EM geophysical anomaly that forms part of a string of anomalies extending over 12 kilometers along strike associated with sulphide-bearing hornfels and banded iron formation proximal to the Stillwater Igneous Complex footwall contact. Drill core contains significant evidence of assimilation textures and high sulphide contents reminiscent of incorporation of crustal sulphur into the magma from the footwall sediments.
Additional drilling is planned to further expand this discovery.
2 - N-Series Structures - N-series mineralization consists of north-south trending structures that crosscut the broadly layered nature of the Stillwater Igneous Complex. As announced on December 5, 2023, the N structures contain high-grade nickel sulphide mineralization that was first discovered by the Company in drill holes CM2020-04 and CM2021-05. First reported on March 3, 2021 and later re-interpreted, hole CM2020-04 returned 8.5 meters of 1.11% Ni, 1.10 g/t 4E (Pd+Pt+Au+Rh), 0.19% Cu, and 0.053% Co for 1.50% NiEq. Hole CM2021-05, first reported May 3, 2022, returned 13.2 meters of 2.31% Ni, 1.51 g/t 4E, 0.35% Cu, and 0.115% Co, for 2.85% NiEq. These structures represent an important addition to the Stillwater West project as they appear to upgrade the broader Platreef-style mineralized zones where they crosscut.
Modeling has now identified eight N-series structures in the Chrome Mountain area and confirmed the existence of similar N-structures more broadly across Stillwater West. A high-resolution ground magnetic survey early in the 2023 field season enabled a more detailed geologic model, leading directly to the intersection of the N1 and N2 structures in holes CM2023-01 to 05.
Assays from holes CM2023-01 to 03 are pending with results expected over the coming weeks.
3 - Reef-type PGE-Ni-Cu Mineralization - Stillwater West contains another mineralization style that is common in layered magmatic systems, the narrower but higher-grade Reef-type deposits. Historically, the majority of the world's supply of platinum group elements ("PGE") has been sourced from mines of this type, and the close proximity of Sibanye-Stillwater's world-class J-M Reef deposit makes Stillwater West highly prospective for high-grade PGE-Ni-Cu reef deposits.
Drilling in 2023 confirmed continuity of the stratiform pegmatoidal reef-type "A-B" chromitite zone discovered on Chrome Mountain, providing an important foundation for follow-up drill campaigns. Drillhole CM2023-05 also intersected two chromite-rich high-grade PGE horizons towards the bottom part of the hole. These zones returned significant PGE+Ni-Cu mineralization characteristic of the stratiform reef-type high-grade "A-B" chromitite, containing a high-grade zone of 2.79 g/t PGE+Au, plus also 0.31% Ni, 0.20% Cu, and 0.018% Co over 4.8 meters in hole CM2023-05.

Duration: from the 26th May to the 2nd June 2024
Rift event: 806
Zombies at Level 1, Level 4, Level 7 through the 5 levels.
Perks: Plant food Zombies, Sun Bank, Traffic Jam, Bass Blast, Poison Zombies, Hyper Healing, Zom-b-gone (Replaces Zcorpion by Cannon Imp), Boss Buster
Number of Perk lvls: 63
*N.B: This PP is a new set of levels but all levels are rerun from previous events. However the Zomboss fight features a new setup: Catastro-liope Setup 2 with Carnie and Lost City zombies. The Zom-b-gone perk is completely useless and must be a leftover from a previous event maybe from one of the Roman events, cause in this PP event, Zcorpion isn't featured in a single lvl nor the Zomboss fight. *
LEVEL 1: Classic lvl in FC Playground
Lvl reference: #79
Objective: Survive 3 waves
Bonus objectives: - Protect the endangered plants - Protect the endangered plants + Stun zombies 30 times - Protect the endangered plants + Stun zombies 30 times

Plant food zombie: 4 from basic zombies, and 1 Hunter
Zombie Setup: - Until wave 1: only basic Roman zombies - Wave 1: 1 Weasel Hoarder and 1 Hunter - Just after the 1st wave : 1 Dodo Rider and 1 Weasel Hoarder - Just before the 2nd wave: 1 Dodo Rider, 1 Weasel Hoarder and 1 Troglobite pushing 3 Ice blocks - Wave 2: 2 Hunters, 2 Weasel Hoarders and 2 Dodo Riders - Between waves 2 and 3: 1 Hunter, 1 Dodo Rider, 1 Weasel Hoarder and 1 Troglobite with 3 Ice Blocks - Wave 3: 4 Weasel Hoarders (1 in a Snowstorm) and 1 Blockhead zombie even if not featured
Note: - Such an easy lvl, there's completely no issue at all, as there are many basic zombies - Best perk: Plant food Zombies or Bass Blast or Hyper Healing. Plant food Zombies is great to strengthen some plants like TW or defeat Zombies easily while Bass Blast gives you more time to defeat those same zombies. Hyper Healing is quite useful if you do not have Chard Guard lvl 5 at least and want to heal its leaves. - Mid perks: Poison Zombies lasts too short to be really efficient and Sun Bank doesn't bring much extra sun - Bad perk: Traffic Jam - To succeed the "Stun X Zombies" bonus objectives, you've got many ways to do it using Draftodil, Blockoli, Stunion, Contain-mint, Rhubarbarian, Brumble Bush, Puffball, Tumbleweed, Chili Bean, Dazey Chain but the best way might be when using either Apple Mortar or Primal Peashooter

Plant food zombie: 6 pf coming randomly
Note: - Normal lvl, no issues, Zombies seem to have very few health, even Cardio seems nerfed on Extra-hot. - using Ice-shroom is even more effective than Pea strats (same lvl and for the same sun cost) especially with the presence of Excavator. IS also deals more damage on his own. - Best perk: Plant food Zombie and Hyper Healing (if you're using a defensive strat or one with high defense plants such as hbl/IS/BS... - Mid perk: Bass Blast, Sun Bank and Boss Buster - Bad perk: Traffic Jam and Poison Zombies (its slow duration makes it quite inefficient)

Plant food zombies: none
Note: - Torchlight come in sandstorms, just be careful, I would suggest you to put your Cold snapdragon on C3 or C4 - No real issues. If you need help against Torchlight in sandstorms, I would advise you to pick 'Iced out' perk, Ice blooms will just chill those torch and maybe even kill the zombies holding them - Best perk: Plant food Zombie or Bass Blast - Mid perk: Poison Zombies - Bad perk: Hyper Healing and Traffic Jam

Pre-selected plants: Sunflower, Wallnut, Fire Peashooter, Rotobaga, Stunion
Features: - Flowers on C5-6 - 2 frozen Sunflowers on C1-L1/5 - 2 frozen basic Roman zombies on C7-L1 and C8-L5 - 4 'Up-Sliders' on C3-L5, C4-L3, C6-L4 and C7-L2 - 2 'Down-Sliders' on C2-L1 and C9-L3
Plant food zombie: 1 basic before wave 1 and 1 Iceblock zombie

Note: - quite hard with low lvl plants especially to deal with those Consultants - Great Setup: 5 hbl + Pumpkin on C7 initially. Once all Graves on C6 have been destroyed, plant 5 Pokra on C6. Works also with Pokra only or with hbl only. - Efficient Setup (plants lvl 9-10): Olive Pit, Tomb Tangler. Plant 10 Olive Pits on C7 and C8. Asap plant Tomb Tangler on Graves on C6. - Perfect Setup: Ice-shroom on C7 with a vine like Blastberry or Pea or Pyre or Aqua or even Pumpkin if you're worried it might get devoured. - Best perk: Bass Blast or Plant food Zombies or Sun Bank. Sun Bank to plant more plants at the beginning if you're running a high sun cost strat or don't have plants maxed, implying higher sun costs. The other 2 perks are great to let your Olive Pits empty their pit or regen them. - Mid perk: Poison Zombies - Bad perks: Traffic Jam and Hyper Healing.

As Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage month draws to a close here in the United States, I wanted to share a collection of write-ups featuring the stories of Asians/Pacific Islanders who are currently missing or whose cases have not been resolved. This is an expansion of a piece I post annually and therefore may it sound similar. These are mostly my pieces as well as a few other cases that I have remembered reading about over the last year or two including some cases recommended by readers. Feel free to add other cases which have stuck with you down in the comment section. I hope to garner some exposure for these lesser known cases.
Khoi Dang Vu was a deaf American man who went missing from his family’s home in 2007 in Vancouver, Washington. He left on a rainy night without his coat, bike, or any belongings. His case is now considered a homicide and no trace of him has ever been found. True Crime Bullsh*t, an investigative podcast, has surmised that Vu may be a victim of serial killer Israel Keyes. The FBI considers the case a kidnapping. Khoi is of Vietnamese descent. My write up here- https://www.reddit.com/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/g89b2z/what_causes_someone_to_leave_their_home_in_the/

Wallace Guidroz went missing from Tacoma in 1983 when he was only two years old. His father took him to a park, went on a walk with a mysterious man, and then when he returned Wallace was gone. Wallace has never been seen again. He is of Korean and African American descent. HIs father is the prime suspect in his disappearance. https://www.reddit.com/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/mdtktl/2_%C2%BD_year_old_wallace_guidroz_disappeared_while/

In 1963 the body of an unidentified man was found floating in the Spokane River in Spokane, Washington. The man had most likely drowned. He is believed to be of Asian descent but white and mixed descent could not be ruled out. Gary Ridgway aka the Green River Killer terrorized the Pacific Northwest for decades. What many people do not know is that the Green River task force is still in operation. Ridgway confessed to 71 murders, but only around 49 bodies have been found meaning there are more victims waiting to be discovered or reported missing. Two of Gary Ridgway’s known victims were of Asian American or Pacific Islander backgrounds. Marie Malvar, who was of Filipino descent, and Kimi Kai Pitsor who was native Hawaiian, but there may be more. To read about the stories of these young girls as well as other victims of Ridgway you can start here. https://www.reddit.com/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/gpbcll/what_everyone_has_wrong_about_ridgway_extensive/ (please keep in mind that with the recent IDs of these does this write up is now out of date).

Diane Nguyen Robbins was only 13 in 1985 when she was last seen in King Co. Washington. She disappeared with her 21 year old friend, Molly Purdin, who was later found murdered. Edward Ryan Makuahanai Aikau, usually known as Eddie Aikau, a famous lifeguard and surfer, was credited with saving over 500 people at Waimea bay on Oahu’s north shore during his tenure as lifeguard. In fact not one person was reported drowned during Eddie’s shifts at the beach. In 1978, 31 year old Aikau had decided to join the Polynesia Voyaging society, a group who planned to travel from Hawaii to Tahiti using only outrigger canoes. Shortly into their journey one canoe sprung a leak and eventually capsized 12 miles south of Molokai. Eddie paddled on his surfboard towards Lanai in a valiant effort to summon help, but soon disappeared. The US Coast Guard were able to save all the passengers and a huge search was launched but Eddie was never found and is presumed drowned. Eddie Aikau is a household name in Hawaii and in the surfing community. Competitions bearing his name and t-shirts, bumper stickers, and other items inscribed with “Eddie would go” are a constant reminder of his legacy and memory. Eddie was of Native Hawaiian and Caucasian, mostly Portuguese, descent. His story can be found here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Aikau
Rachel Mellon, sometimes reported as Rachel Mellon Skemp was a 13 year old who disappeared from her Illinois home when she was home sick one day in 1996. Her step-father is the primary suspect in her disappearance and diary entries from several months earlier reported that her step dad had touched her inappropriately and tried to kiss her. Rachel is of Asian descent but her family reports she is often mistaken for Greek or Italian. Her case can be found here. https://charleyproject.org/case/rachel-marie-mellon
Hang Lee, a 17 year old girl, went missing from St Paul Minnesota on January 12th 1993. Hang was last seen with a friend Kia “Nikki” Lee. She left home with this friend between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. but when Nikki returned home an hour later, Hang was not with her. Nikki initially told authorities Hang had left with some unidentified young men. She later changed her story and said Hang had gone to a job interview with Nikki's own employer, Mark Steven Wallace, at Wallace's small painting and carpentry business on Iroquois Avenue. Wallace told Nikki that he was looking to hire another employee and she suggested her friend Hang as Hang was looking for a new job. Nikki thought that this request from Wallace was odd as he did not have enough work to hire another employee at that time. Nikki eventually told authorities that she and Hang went to Wallace's place of work and drove around with him in a white truck before switching and driving around in a tan Chevy Cavalier. Wallace dropped Nikki off and then left with Hang in the car. Wallace also told Nikki to not report what happened to the police. After a few interviews with the police Nikki retained an attorney and is no longer cooperating. Wallace denied involvement but also retained an attorney. Wallace is the prime suspect in the disappearance of Hang Lee. He has a record which includes rape, kidnapping, stalking, and drug possession. Hang Lee has never been located and her mother and 13 siblings are still looking for her. Hang is described as a sweet and naïve teenager who is only 17 and 1993. She was 5 ft tall and weighed 90 lb. She was last seen wearing a lightweight black leather jacket, a black t-shirt with "Skid Row" written on the back, black jeans or slacks, sneakers and several pieces of jewelry, including two silver bracelets. She is described as an Asian female with black hair and brown eyes. Her parents moved from Lao (sometimes spelled Laos in the US), and she is Hmong descent. She speaks both English and Hmong. She left behind her purse, a paycheck, and all of her other belongings. Full article https://charleyproject.org/case/hang-lee
Deborah Palmer was only 7 years old in 1997 when she was last seen getting ready for school. Her mother said goodbye as Deborah left the home to walk a few blocks to her elementary school in Oak Harbor, Washington. When Deborah’s mother tried to drop off lunch a few hours later, she was shocked to learn that her daughter never arrived. Five days later, Deborah’s body was found on a beach a few miles away. She had been but not sexually assaulted. Her case is cold and unsolved 25 years later. Deborah is of African American and Filipino descent. https://www.q13fox.com/washingtons-most-wanted/little-girl-doesnt-show-up-for-school-but-shows-up-days-later-dead-on-a-beach

Ashok Kuman Narain was last seen in Eugene, Oregon in either 1987 or 1988 where he lived with his wife and young daughter after moving from Fiji several years earlier. In 1987 the dismembered body of a pregnant woman and the body of a toddler were found floating nearby in Washington and Oregon. 20 years later these bodies were identified as Raj Mati Narain and Kamnee Koushal, the wife and daughter of Ashok, after Raj’s brother read a story about the unidentified bodies online. He had not heard from his sister since 1987 when Raj’s letters back to her family in Fiji mysteriously stopped. Ashok is wanted for questioning but his whereabouts are unknown. Authorities are looking for a white 1980 Toyota Tercel with the Oregon license plate number KUV762, which disappeared with Ashok and may be connected to Raj and Kamnee's homicides. Both Oregon and Washington authorities are investigating his disappearance. Most sources say the family is of Indo Fijian descent, however, the Charley project now reports that Ashok is of native Fijian descent. You can read their tragic story here. https://charleyproject.org/case/ashok-kumar-narain

Yuan Xia Wang went missing near Washington DC when she was headed for a doctor’s appointment. Yuan had been found at Dulles Airport when a man who was smuggling people into the country was detained and Yuan was one of his charges. Police became suspicious when Yuan who was supposedly a Thai citizen could not speak or understand Thai, but rather spoke Mandarin. Yuan told authorities her parents in Fuzhou, China had paid money for this man to get her into the country using a Thai passport. She was supposed to live with an aunt in the US, but she didn't know where or who this person was so she was placed in foster care for the time being. Other reports say that her smuggler was supposed to take her to a hotel in Alexandria, Virginia. Her foster parents hired a Mandarin speaking babysitter to stay with her until she was enrolled in at a local middle school. Yuan went missing only a few weeks later while on the way to a doctor's appointment. She reportedly got off the school bus and was supposed to take a cab to the doctors but vanished by the time the cab arrived. Although Yuan said she was 12, she was 5’ 6” in height and most people thought she was probably around 15 at the time of her disappearance. She is of Chinese descent and speaks Mandarin. Police believe she either ran away, was kidnapped by her family members or smugglers, or met with foul play. She may have been seen in Kansas city in 2008. Sadly her dentals, fingerprints, and DNA and not available. https://www.reddit.com/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/jbtixc/yuan_xia_wangmissing_from_lincolnia_virginia/

Faloma Luhk, 10, and Maleina Luhk, 9, disappeared while waiting for their school bus in As Teo, Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, on May 25th, 2011. The girls were last seen sitting on a concrete slab at 6:10 a.m. across the road from their bus stop, only 300 feet from the home they shared with their grandparents. The bus arrived and left without them at 6:30 am but the girls were not reported missing until they didn’t come home after school that day. The 12 mile long island of Saipan was searched thoroughly by friends, family, locals, and the FBI but no trace of the girls or their things were ever found and their disappearance remains one of the most well known mysteries from the Northern Mariana Islands. Both girls are described as Pacific Islander females with brown hair and brown eyes. In 2011, Faloma had bronze colored highlights in her bangs, and Maleina had a large birthmark on her left cheek. She is reported as small and short for her age. A distant family member by marriage, who was later arrested for domestic violence, is the prime suspect in the case. He has never been named publicly. https://www.saipantribune.com/index.php/disappearance-of-luhk-sisters-marks-10-years/

Dong Chull Jung disappeared within minutes in Lakewood, Washington. The 78 year old was residing at the Golden Lion Motel on Tacoma Way in Lakewood, Washington. The establishment has long been a hotbed of criminal activity and violence since at least the 1990s. On average the police responded to incidents at the 24-room hotel over 100 times per year. November 22nd 2003 was one of those times. On that day witnesses called the police after hearing a “disturbance” in Dong’s room. When the authorities arrived, they found a giant pool of blood on the floor as well as Dong’s prescription eyeglasses, but Dong was nowhere to be found. According to the News Tribune, a paper out of Tacoma, one week before Dong’s disappearance he was granted a temporary domestic violence protection order from a Paul C. Jung, who might be Dong’s adult son. In June of 2003, someone named Hae Sung Jung, got a restraining order against Dong. Hae might be the estranged wife of Dong, but this isn’t known for sure. There are vague reports that Dong was having “marital issues'' at the time of his disappearance. Very little information is available in the case. The Golden Lion Inn was finally torn down in 2017 but the fate of the elderly man who resided within remains a mystery. Dong is described as an Asian (Korean) male, with brown eyes and thinning gray hair. He is 5’6'' and weighs 135 lbs. Dong wears prescription eyeglasses but they were left behind when he vanished. If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Dong Jung please call Pierce County Crime Stoppers 253-591-5959. https://charleyproject.org/case/dong-chull-jung
Gordon Kaipo Kealoha, 59, disappeared along with his dog Mahina in 2011. They were last seen fishing near Honolulu where they lived on July 8; Gordon cherished Mahina and brought her almost everywhere he went. After his disappearance, Gordon's white minivan was found abandoned, and his dinghy was found in the water, floating away from his home. Gordon is 6'1 and 250 pounds, and he is of Native Hawaiian descent.

Amber Aiaz and Melissa Fu were mother and daughter who went missing In November, 2019 from Irvine, California. The story of their disappearance and possible kidnapping is complicated. I would suggest reading the story here or here if you are interested in the details but the basic story is this. Amber's husband, Cheng Zhang, reported his wife and stepdaughter missing to the police about a week after they were last seen. He said that a Chinese man and woman came to his door, put something on his face and he passed out. He reported that when he woke up he found blood and evidence of a struggle in the apartment. He also found a note telling him not to report his wife and daughter missing to the police for at least several days and continued to get notes over the next week. He did what the notes instructed for the next several days. When he finally did report his wife and stepdaughter missing, police were skeptical of his story to say the least. Several months later police reported that they had found nothing to indicate that Cheng’s story was untrue, including over 40 hours of interviews with him and 44 days of around the clock surveillance. In the past Amber had told acquaintances that she was a very wealthy woman who had millions of dollars to her name. While this was not true, authorities speculated that Amber may have been kidnapped for ransom only for her captors to find out that her story of riches was nothing more than a farce. Amber's money has not been touched in either her Chinese or American bank accounts. Both mother and daughter left behind their passports and there's no indication that either of them have entered China.
Amber is described as a 34-year-old Chinese woman who is 5'9 and weighed 180 lb. She has black hair and brown eyes. When last seen she was wearing a black shirt, a black vest, black fitted pants with white writing on them, and light colored shoes. She may use the name Mei Yi Wu or Meiyi W. Wu.
Melissa is described as a 12 or 13 year old Chinese female with black hair and brown eyes. She was 5 '11” in height and weighed about 200 lb. She was last seen wearing a black tracksuit.
Cheng described the unidentified abductors as a Chinese couple in their 40s. Both had average builds. The woman was reported to be about 5’8” and had her black hair tied back in a bun. The man was of average build about 190 lb. and 5 '10”. He had short black hair. The couple may have been driving a black Cadillac and they may have been seen near the apartment complex that day by other neighbors.
Destiny Dee Sanith was last seen by her family on March 3rd, 2022 in Williamstown New Jersey. At about 2:30 in the afternoon on March 3rd, she asked her mom if she could borrow the car to go visit a friend in South Philadelphia. When Destiny did not return in the evening, her mother learned that she never made it to her friend's house that day. New Jersey police had contact with Destiny at about 5:20 a.m. on March 4th in Folsom New Jersey. Destiny and her car were near a strip mall at the time. What exactly happened is not clear but police reported they helped Destiny move her car into a parking spot and then gave her a ride to a Wawa convenience store about a mile up the road. Destiny's family has reported that they have surveillance video of Destiny entering and then later leaving the Wawa store after purchasing a drink. At about 9:00 a.m. she was seen leaving the store with a drink crossing the road, turning into another convenience store and then going behind the building and out of view. This is the last known sighting and location of Destiny Sanith. On March 5th when Destiny had still not returned home she was reported missing to the police and her family learned about her interaction with the police on the morning of March 4th. Destiny has not been seen or heard from since.
Destiny is described as an Asian female 27 years old, who is 5'6 and height and weighs about 170 lb. She reportedly has short wavy brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing black sweatpants, a black Nike sweatshirt, a backpack, white and red Air Jordan sneakers, wearing earrings and carrying a coffee. She has a tattoo of the Virgo symbol on her right hand. Her nickname is Dara. Her family has set up a GoFundMe to help find Destiny and hire a private investigator. Full article here.
Binyu Chin and his brother, Huaiyu Chin, disappeared from San Diego, California on January 12, 2019. They lived with their mother and stepfather at the time of their disappearance. They were abducted by their non-custodial father, Foong Lian Chin. Foong has lived in New York City, San Deigo, Baja California, Mexico. He immigratged from Signapore in the 1980s. The boys have not been seen since. https://charleyproject.org/case/binyu-chin
Kevin Nguyen, age 25, went missing on Decemeber 8th 2018. He was last seen at a bar in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He had been asked to leave after an altercation. You can read his story here- https://charleyproject.org/case/kevin-n-nguyen
Myong Keun Noah, who went by the nickname Mike, was seen by his family at around 7:00 p.m. on May 1st, 2007 in San Bruno, CA. Mike owned a private car company called E Limousine Services that he ran out of his home. That evening Mike told his son that he had to leave to pick up a 7:30 p.m fare. He did not tell his son where he was picking up the fare. Mike's wife was at an evening class at the time. Neither Mike or his black Lincoln town car was ever seen again. His car was new and didn't have permanent license plates, but had the transportation carrier permit number TCP 18525 printed on the back bumper. It had a transponder that registers when it enters San Francisco International Airport, but the transponder did not register a trip to the airport that evening. A search of parking areas at both the San Francisco Airport and the Oakland Airport did not locate Mike or his car. Mike's bank account and his phone have not been used since May 1st, 2007. Mike had no history of running away or dropping out of sight, he had no reported mental health issues, no personal problems, and no enemies. Police report that they are baffled by his disappearance. Mike was a US Army veteran and a naturalized American citizen. He had one teenaged son with his current wife and two adult children from a previous marriage however, no one in Mike's family has heard from him since May 1st, 2007. Mike is described as an Asian male, 60 years old in 2007, with brown eyes and black and gray hair. He is 5 ft 8 in in height and weighs about 165 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black suit with a white shirt. He may spell his last name “Noh.” He is of Korean descent.

I'm A Music Creator Introduction From Jakub Patok

Performing live in 2017

Who I Am

Hello, everyone! My name is Jakub Patok. I'm a songwriter, lyricist, music producer, guitarist, keyboardist and singer. I come from Poland. I've been making music for more than 10 years now. I take a great delight in writing my own songs. I have an upcoming EP titled "doubts" coming out on the 31st of May 2024!
It feels great to be part of this awesome musicorloseittv community of musicians and music fans. I hope that it'll continue to grow. I'm glad that I can introduce myself to you. If you have any questions or comments, please share in the reply section.

First Music Memories and Inspirations

I think maybe I was born a big music fan. When I was about 4 years old, my biggest idol was Polish pop singer Stachursky. Everybody associated me with him. I danced to his songs and learned some of them by heart. It was around this age when I started to write my own songs. What an early start - isn't it? Most songs were rather childish yet rhythmical and generally made sense. I recorded these first ideas on a toy which resembled a little radio with a simple microphone. It had an ability to record onto a cassette. I still have one or two cassettes with these early recordings of mine.
When I was about 6 years old, I started listening to Polish rap. My favourite artist at that time was Peja. I also listened to other Polish rap artists such as Ascetoholix, Trzeci Wymiar and Mezo. Many considered this music inappropriate for a child. Fortunately my parents allowed me to listen to what I wanted. Moreover, somewhere around this time my dad bought me my first CD. It was the album "Najlepszą obroną jest atak" by Peja. I listened to this record a lot! When I was about 5 years old, I started taking piano lessons. I attended these classes for around 2 years. This provided the foundations for my later music journey. In my early childhood, I also experimented with music-making software creating simple hip-hop beats using samples in eJay Music Maker.

Late Childhood and Teenage Years - The Start of My Music Making Adventure

When I was about 7 years old, I became a fan of football. I remain a fan. Yet, as far as I remember, at that time football made me forget about music for a few years. This changed when I started exploring Linkin Park's discography. I had known and liked this band before. For some reason in 2009 I decided to check out more of their music. I believe this music exploration in a way changed my life. I became a huge fan of the band and became part of the fan community. Being down-to-earth and creative people, the band members, especially Mike Shinoda, became role models for me. Their behind-the-scenes videos made me want to learn how to make music and play the guitar.
I started taking guitar lessons in 2011 and in 2012 I began learning how to create music using digital audio workstations (DAWs). The beginnings were difficult. However, in 2013 I released my first two instrumental albums under the name "blackout." written in lowercase letters with a period character at the end. This name was taken after one of Linkin Park's songs. My first instrumental album was titled "Thoughts of Myself" and the second was "Paranoid System." Successful songs from these instrumental albums are "In Circles" and "Angel of Death".

My Era As blackout.

After releasing three amateurish albums, I dreamt of creating songs with vocals. I didn't even have a microphone at that time so I decided to look for vocalists that would sing on my instrumentals. I announced the project on different internet forums, hoping to find some singers willing to collaborate with me. This operation was probably the biggest music project I have ever undertaken. I had to have everything under control while collaborating with more than 10 people at the same time on a few different songs. At that time I had been making music only for about 2 years so it was quite a challenge for an unexperienced musician and a young person in general. Being only 16 years old, in November 2014 I released my first full-fledged album titled “The Reflections.” Song "Broken," created in cooperation with a metal vocalist Fylyp, got a music video.
Since the day I started making music, my dream had been to play a live show. With the organizational support from a friend, my first concert took place in October 2015. I performed a few songs from "The Reflections" (sung by me this time!), a few covers, and a then-new song titled "The Night." From that point on, I became the primary vocalist of my songs. I then moved forward with two full albums: a 2016 release titled "Notion," containing 6 songs sung by myself and 2 songs created in collaboration with dr.dx; and then a 2017 record called "OVERTHINKING" including 10 new songs from me.
Looking back, I believe that the years 2015-2017 were the most successful for me musically, giving me recognition in the local environment and among friends and acquaintances. Some of the most memorable songs from this period include "Just Fool", "Evil", "Don't Go" or "How All Falls Apart." Many songs created then are very nostalgic for me now.
In 2019 I released the last album under the name "blackout." It is titled "time." I experimented with pop music a bit more than on the previous records. It is probably the most polished album I have ever released with a lot details being taken into consideration both musically and also regarding the visual side of the project. My two favourite songs from this album are probably "stars" and "silence in my head". In the meantime, I played a few concerts in my hometown and nearby places. The most emotional and memorable concert took place in 2016 when a lot of my friends showed up in the audience, chanted my name and cheered after each song I played. That night was really special!
Performing live in 2016

Changing My Creator Identity

I discontinued going by the name "blackout." In 2020, I released the first song in my native language, Polish, a ballad titled "Woda" (eng. "Water"). I then began performing using my first name and surname - Jakub Patok. Songs in Polish are a bit more private to me. Discontinuing the use of the nickname felt like a natural move at that point. However, this project was a direct continuation of what I was doing as "blackout." Although I have been growing as an artist and producer, the idea of my "blackout." identity is still apparent in everything I've been making since 2020. At the beginning of 2021, I published a bigger work in my native language - an EP titled "Odliczanie do przeszłości" (eng. "Countdown to the Past"). It contains "Woda" along with 5 other songs including my favourite from this release, "Gdzieś w środku mnie" (eng. "Somewhere Inside Me").
I then took a break from serious music making and limited my activity to participating in a few contests on Metapop - an interactive platform for music creators. In August 2021, I released a collection of songs that took part in the Metapop competitions. Unfortunately Metapop shut down at the beginning of 2023.
Up until the middle of 2022, I seriously lacked inspiration. However, this period finished with me releasing a new single in Polish titled "Chaos" which ironically was written about... my lack of inspiration to make music. That year I also released "Niewiele" (eng. “Little”). I typically write the lyrics to my songs myself yet for this song my friend wrote the lyrics. It ended up on my first full album in Polish titled "Chciałbym marzyć" (eng. "I Would Like to Dream") released in June 2023. This album feels like the most important work I have ever created. I consider it my best production-wise and my most personal project.
After a break due to the pandemic, I came back to the stage in July 2023 playing a live show as a support act before my first music idol from childhood - Stachursky. What an incredible day that was! Near the end of 2023, I decided to work on a few songs in English again. This resulted in releasing a few singles such as "Go Higher." I am also excited about my forthcoming EP "doubts."
Performing live in 2023 as a support act before my childhood hero, Stachursky

My Musical Influences

Since my early childhood, I've been listening to various rap artists. Rapping and hip-hop beats are the elements that I like in music a lot. Since I became a Linkin Park fan, I've enjoyed music that mix different genres and styles. This is what I try to do myself. Since the release of my first full-fledged album "The Reflections," my music has been hard to qualify, being a crossover between electronic music, rap, rock and pop. Meaningful lyrics which convey strong emotions are also important to me.
Moreover, being a control freak myself, my musical idols have always been multi-instrumentalists and masterminds of bands such as: Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park; Tyler Joseph from Twenty One Pilots; and Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons. All three musicians are also the frontmen of my favourite bands. They are the biggest influences in music I create today. Other artists that I listen to often include The Weeknd, Blackbear, Alice In Chains, Kanye West, Limp Bizkit, Depeche Mode and Post Malone.

After releasing "doubts," I want to keep creating more music! I believe I have become better as a music producer and singer in the recent years. I'd like to show my abilities in my future works. A few years ago, I published beat-making videos showing my music making process. Perhaps in the future I'd like to work on some more of these.
In the upcoming summer, I am going to play one or two concerts. I can't wait to perform live again. Also, I am also slowly coming back to writing in my native language. I'll probably aim to release a new album in Polish next year!

If you want to ask me a question or give me some feedback about my works, I'll be more than happy to talk with you. Thank you for reading and checking out my music!
Thank you for u/themusicfanman for text and photo editing. Your help was very valuable!

2024.05.25 16:37 Charming-Name7897 1 year since Rock Bottom

I spent my entire second and third year of uni getting black out drunk every weekend. I ruined my sisters 21st birthday, 2 of my closest friends 21st birthdays, got blackout at every event I went to and would spend the next two days in bed, not looking at my phone for days at a time because I was so embarrassed. This went on from September 2021 to June 2023. Nearly two years of weekends lost. I lost one of my closest friends at the time because she was sick of putting up with it. This culminated at my best friends 21st birthday last June, where I blacked out and made unwanted sexual advances on 2 of my friends who have girlfriends and one guy I had just met, who is gay. The next day my best friend told me that I had to sort it out or I was going to be cut off. I tried to stop drinking completely which lasted about 3 weeks. I then made all these rules about only drinking beer, or only having 2 drinks, swapping between alcohol and water etc etc. I had tried all these things before and they had never worked. I apologised to all my friends who still wanted anything to do with me, I apologised to the people I had hurt. I have worked hard this year to stop these blackouts, and for the most part have succeeded. Last night I went for a pint with said best friend, and asked about an upcoming trip which I assumed I would have been invited on. She informed me that I wasn't invited. I got upset and couldn't understand why. This morning we talked and she informed me that part of the reason I was not invited was due to my actions at her birthday last year. This was a really tough listen and I got very tearful - I had done so much work to improve! But of course, actions have consequences. After speaking to another friend I realised that I would gladly take these consequences, if it meant I got to keep my best friend. I am so lucky that she has stuck by me and I am so grateful to the rest of my friends that have. I let alcohol ruin my time at university but I can not let it ruin my future.

2024.05.25 10:54 ArmFancy8315 First Yellowstone Trip

My boyfriend and I are camping in Yellowstone for the first time this upcoming June, we’re staying in Madison Campground for 7 days. Honestly the plan is to just wing it, I’ve got paper maps and downloaded maps on my phone. Plan is to pick what looks the most interesting and talk to some fellow campers and/or the rangers. We plan on visiting again in the future, so we aren’t worried about seeing the best/most, we just want to relax and enjoy nature. Anyone have any tips/tricks to help us through our first ever visit to Yellowstone?
(Also to add I am incredibly afraid of bears…. I know you’re supposed to make noise/stay away/carry bear spray…other than that does anybody have any reassuring info on bears while hiking? Can you we bring food on our hikes or will that peak the interest of the bears and make it more likely for us to be face-to-face with them?)

2024.05.24 05:12 mollwallbaby 29 and shamefully bad with money.

I'm fed up with my habits and it's so hard to change. I'm gonna do it, but I'm gonna bitch first. Idk if I'm screaming my frustrations into the void to vent, I wouldn't hate advice but I also wouldn't hate just a "Hey you're not a bad person just bc you're bad at money" 😭😭
Long, rambly post about my history of money habits or whatever
I have always been bad at money. I don't know why. I grew up with a single dad who didn't make much, but we were always secure and warm and fed, with a small vacation every few years, and I could go to the doctor anytime I needed. Because my dad was great with money. He never had money conversations with me, though. I remember being 16 with my first job and bank account, and he looked & saw that I had spent almost $400 in a week on fast food & swimsuits or whatever 16 year olds spend their money on. He was so mad and annoyed with me and it felt terrible, but we never talked about why or what I should have done. He's not responsible for my choices, but I am frequently upset that my dad never had a money talk with me, especially since I moved out at 17 with no idea what I was doing.
Moved into my own place with my older boyfriend who was a raging alcoholic and terrible with money. When we had any money at all, it went to booze as hangover food the second we got it. We were frequently behind on bills because we wanted beer and weed, and my card regularly declined on 40s of OE. When I got out of that and moved back home, I got a second job, started saving a bunch and was so proud of myself. Then I turned 21 and started going to bars after work, and that was game over. I made very little money and I would go spend my whole check at the bar in a night or two, every week. A few years later, I move in with my next BF and get the best serving job I've ever had (still, to this day) I was regularly clearing $300 or $400 a night and still never had rent money because it all went to coke & bar tabs immediately. I had nothing to show for it by the time I left that job.
So a few years later I got sober. Ever since then, fixing my relationship with money has been heavy on my mind, non-stop. For five years. And I still can't get it right
Like, when I got sober, I got an app that told me how much money I had saved by not drinking, but I saw none of that money. None. Because my money was never "for" anything. I didn't have a $100 drinking budget that was suddenly not getting spent so I could have it for other things - I just spent my money just as fast, on other things. Clothes and food, mostly. And it's just been like that since. I write out budgets before every paycheck, then the money hits my account, and I impulsively order a bunch of Doordash or a big Amazon cart or something STUPID. Then try to budget around what's left, and I fuck myself every time. Then I scrape by for groceries, and when I have $20 in my bank account 2 weeks later, I go spend $15 on groceries, then suddenly I'm $40 overdrawn because I thought Hulu had already come out for the month when it hadn't. I get pet sitting money and I couldn't show you where. Still always have a bill or two that's behind, no nice furniture or anything expensive bought with it, no savings. Just like, gas and more food or whatever. I constantly convince myself that things are needs. Stuff for a recipe, or a cute cup I had my eye on, or some weird kitchen gadget or an overpriced planner or... You get it. It's like I'm fighting myself constantly. I get started thinking about something I wanna buy, no matter how small or trivial, and I OBSESS for weeks until I finally get it, then when I buy it I usually say "Well I'm spending money anyway" and then buy 2. I cancel certain things because I'm certain I can't afford them, like a $50 therapy appointment or a haircut, then turn around and spend that exact money on new workout gear that I convince myself was absytelt necessary, when it wasn't. I splurge on food as a treat - another thing I obsess over. Once I think I'm gonna get myself a sweet treat to celebrate with or a nice meal to relax with, it's like I flipped a switch that I can't turn off, and my brain will not accept food that's made at home, I gotta have my craving. Then I get it and it's not very good and I'm not happy at all and I realize, every single time, that I just wanted the dopamine rush that comes with buying nice takeout j guess??? And I know it, I'm saying it now, I acknowledge it every time. But for some reason, when the debate starts in my brain, the shitty little devil on my shoulder seems IMPOSSIBLE not to listen to. Idk. It's so hard. I can't save for anything (sometimes I pull cash out to save so I won't spend what's in my account, that only works sometimes) I NEVER have money between checks, if I wanted to blow money on something expensive like concert tickets or jewelry, it simply could not happen. Already blew it on $7 tank tops from Target. Multie bank accounts? How and why? I got 30 cents in the one account I have, fuck that. Then I got stuck in the cycle of borrowing money from the Dave app, which pays itself back out of my next paycheck, causing me to need to borrow again. I never ever got a credit card because I KNOW how shitty I am with money. I now have a Care Credit card because you can't spend it anywhere but the doctovet, so I got a small line of credit I could build with since that's way lower risk than a regular credit card. I had some extra money this past week and MADE myself divide it into a few upcoming bills. I was so fucking proud of myself. Then my cat litter on Chewy came out and overdrafted my account again. I don't know how people have a "going out to eat fund" AND an "entertainment fund" after making a $400 car payment and a $300 credit card payment. I pay my bills and I'm lucky if I have $80 for gas and groceries for the next two weeks
I don't know how the fuck to break the cycle. I feel stuck. It's my own actions and all I have to do is NOT buy some shit for a paycheck or two. What is stopping me? Does anyone know how to bust down this wall? I want out. I don't want my husband to always have to buy shampoo for me because the Comcast bill overdrafted my account again. I don't want to borrow money from my dad anymore, who has very little to begin with. Budgeting apps haven't worked - I just turn off notifications when I don't like the "low balance" texts and stuff. I'm too old for this shit and I'm scared of what I'm doing to my future. I quit booze, coke, weed, nicotine, and caffeine in the last 5 years. And I don't think any of them are as hard as "quit spending money on expensive snacks when your house is full of groceries." It's embarrassing.
I also don't make much money at all, netting about 1300/month (unless I pet sit) so it's hard as hell to get caught up - I want to change that this month. I've paid about half towards all of my upcoming bills already for this month. Next week, I will be getting $550 from pet sitting, and an extra paycheck this month (which means no insurance or benefits being deducted out of this one!) I have a plan for all of my pet sitting dollars and most of my upcoming paycheck - credit card payment, June rent, phone and internet, some of a hospital bill will be paid, I'm pulling some out to save for my husband's birthday, and buying myself ONE treat, like a Boba or something else under $10. Beyond that, I want to build a cushion of money. I'm making plans and doing some research - because I want it to be some profound, deep solution that I can analyze myself to, rather than something as simple as "Just don't fucking spend the shit."
Anyway, thanks for reading, if you still are.
