2024.05.16 16:39 CalligrapherWise7917 Need help upgrading Timeless Wisdom precon
Recently purchased the Timeless Wisdom precon on ebay for a decent price.
Largely because of Fierce Guardianship, but also because I want to play it. It centres around cycling that I don't see much, and is a colour combo I don't currently have.
Hoping to get some help with upgrades on a budget, around £25/$30, so it can compete better at my LGS.
Any help with cards that synergise well with cycling and great cycle cards would be appreciated.

2024.05.16 16:15 gtmdhwn_789 I DID IT! here's my attempts per bosses and general 2 cents about it all
| https://preview.redd.it/t0duzyp8ks0d1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=9cca107324c6f027b8dc6e65c80431a8e7cb0299 Here are the list of major bosses I encountered in-order and how many attempts it took me:- - Gyoubu Masataka Oniwa : 2 attempts, it gave me tree sentinel vibes and I just dodged through his attacks and got him down, not the cleanest work but it was the first major boss I encountered.
- Genichiro Ashina : 27 attempts, coming from Elden ring and DS1, I gotta say Genichiro beat the habit of pressing dodge out of me. Took me a while but Sekiro's combat system started making sense from this boss. Although now that I think about it, I made it a little harder on myself by going at him with base health.
- Lady Butterfly : 3 attempts, after beating Genichiro and having some sense of the combat system, gotta say this fight was satisfying. Tho I wish I knew earlier that you could dispel her illusions with Snapseed.
- Folding Screen Monkeys : 1 attempt, nothing much to say about this gimmick fight but chasing the monkeys and using the rooms as part of the puzzle was fun.
- Guardian Ape : 9 attempts, probably the fight that gave me trust issues, after defeating the first phase easily in 3 tries, it showed me the Shinobi execution so I thought we were done there, went to get some food and you can probably see what could've happened. Easier second phase so overall an enjoyable fight.
- Headless Ape and his girlfriend : 5 attempts, first phase was easy, when his girlfriend showed up, after 3 attempts I noticed when he screams, I can one-v-one his mate, spammed firecracker and once she was down, it was an easy fight.
- Corrupted Monk : 1 attempt, it honestly felt a little weird to me that this fight felt so easy I was a little disappointed, but thankfully the real monk showed up later to make up for it.
- Great Shinobi Owl : 1 attempt, I screamed at the top of my lungs after I first tried this guy, felt a little good about myself but a buddy of mine said he is easy so I just brushed it off, little did I know he would face me again.
- Owl (Father) : 36 attempts, the bane of my existence. I honestly lost my mind fighting this guy, so many kicks, he could mikiri counter me, could combo and basically stagger lock me to death and could even deathblow me if my poise broke near him. I tried everything, even looked up on the internet for a cheese because I was frustrated, sadly I couldn't lock him in the corner for the cheese to work (tried that 5 times) but then I just went hard on him, didn't give him a chance to leap away, found out you can dodge his firecracker and punish that attack and finally got his ass, all in all he humbled me.
- True Corrupted Monk : 4 attempts, all the phases were easy enough it was the transition from first to second that kept getting me but once I figured you can actually take out his phase two altogether by jumping on the trees, it was easy.
- Divine Dragon : 1 attempt, another gimmick fight but one of the most beautiful one, I enjoyed every second of that fight.
- Demon of Hatred : 15 attempts, One of the best fights in the game. It threw me off for the first couple of attempts because I thought parry was the way to go but when I actually started dodging instead, it was smooth sailing from there. The fire umbrella upgrade helped a ton here
- Isshin, the Sword Saint : 7 attempts, for a second I was confused because I thought Isshin had succumbed to his illness but when he came out of Genichiro, that was epic. Everything about this fight, the background, the field where I first got my ass kicked when I started the game and seeing how far I have come, the lore and the way he fought, it was amazing. The fact that I first tried Genichiro without taking a hit meant so much to me and then the actual duel with Isshin. Even though it got a little unfair when he pulled out a spear, a freakin gun and lightning, I enjoyed every bit of that dance and finally he was also defeated.
I enjoyed the hell out of this game and I can't be more thankful to Fromsoft and my friend for introducing me to this game, given I am not at the best point in my life, it gave me hope that if I bang my head at something enough times with enough determination, I can truly achieve anything I aim and prepare for. Thanks if you read this rant of mine, you're awesome! submitted by gtmdhwn_789 to Sekiro [link] [comments] |

2024.05.16 15:01 aznpersuazion Why Vancouver has THE BEST FOOD IN NORTH AMERICA
Alright, buckle up because we're diving into why Vancouver's food scene is straight-up legendary. Forget the regular city vibes; Vancouver is a melting pot of flavors, a culinary carnival that beats anything else in North America. Join me on this personal quest to unravel why the combo of Asian influence, Pacific Northwest goodness, and chill dining vibes makes Vancouver the top pick for foodies.
Asian Culinary Delights: Tradition and Creativity Unleashed Vancouver's streets resonate with the aromas of traditional Asian dishes, prepared with a touch of authenticity that transports you across borders. Picture slurping savory ramen in Chinatown or savoring hand-pulled noodles in a cozy corner of East Van. But what makes Vancouver's Asian food scene truly exceptional is its fusion of tradition with modern creativity.
In this city, innovation meets tradition on a plate. Take, for instance, squid ink brioche with sea urchin pâté – a daring yet harmonious blend of flavors that pushes the boundaries of culinary expectations. Vancouver's chefs are culinary artists, creating dishes that not only pay homage to traditional recipes but also elevate them into extraordinary, palate-pleasing experiences.
And let's not forget the matcha mochi croissants that have taken the city by storm. A fusion of Japanese mochi and French croissants, these delectable pastries are a testament to Vancouver's culinary diversity. Each bite is a dance of textures and tastes, showcasing the city's flair for seamlessly blending cultures and cuisines.
Pacific Northwest's Grocery List: Seafood Galore and More Living next to the Pacific Ocean is like having a seafood aisle in your backyard. Fresh salmon, sweet Dungeness crab, and chubby spot prawns – Vancouver's seafood game is on point. And let's not forget the local veggies and meats, straight from the region's green landscapes. It's like nature’s way of saying, "Hey, enjoy the good stuff!"
Nature Vibes: Dining with a View Vancouver's layout is like a dating app for food and nature; they're a match made in heaven. Whether you're brunching in a leafy neighborhood or devouring seafood with an ocean panorama, the city serves up an Instagrammable backdrop for every meal. Picture this: a patio, a breeze, and the scent of fir trees – eating out just got a whole lot cooler.
Neighborhood Chronicles: Culinary Adventures Off the Beaten Path Downtown is cool, but venture out, and you'll hit foodie gold. Commercial Drive's eclectic spots or Richmond's legit Asian flavors – Vancouver's neighborhoods are like culinary treasure maps. Each area has its own flavor story, tempting you to be the food explorer you were born to be.
Conclusion Vancouver isn't just a city with good food; it's a food fiesta waiting to happen. The Asian vibes, the Pacific Northwest's goodies, and the city's chill connection with nature make dining here a full-blown experience. Vancouver isn't just North America's food champion; it's a vibe, a journey through flavors, and a big, fat stamp on your foodie passport. So, next time you're craving a culinary adventure, Vancouver's got your back, fork, and knife.

2024.05.16 14:40 Calm_Bumblebee_4739 Help with orzhov list
Hi All,
So I know that orzhov is comparably weak right now due to stax not being as viable as it once was, but I was wondering if anyone has had recent success with any combo lines that are available within the colors. I put together a list with [[Liesa, Shroud of Dusk]] as the commander and while it is incredibly fringe, it does consistently allow [[Bloodchief Ascension]] to be online within one turn cycle in addition to either winning or putting a soft lock on the board with [[Vito, Thorn of the Duskrose]] and [[Exquisite Blood]] on the battlefield. I am very open to any and all suggestions on this list!

2024.05.16 14:08 Extension_Band_8138 Your hunger, cravings & satiety anecdotes wanted!
This is a highly exploratory post inspired by some books I delved into recently as well as exfatloss' recent post about satiety (why would salsa and sour cream be such appetite enhancers? What is it about them??).
I guess we sometimes need to engage in knowledge 'fishing expeditions' and just hope some patterns emerge. This is a sub with a lot of first hand experience various food / macro restrictions who pays attention to what they eat and how they feel about it more than the general population.
Please share your accounts of various cravings / satiety experiences while on different restricted diets. It can be something you experience now or have experienced in the past. It can be something you have noticed in your pets or farm animals (we're not that different from them after all!). It can be transient, or something you experience your whole life. I would like to collect these hunge satiety narratives.
Give as much background as you can remember - what was your diet (approx macros, types of food). How long did craving / satiety last? Did you give into it? Does it drive you to overeat / undereat? Did it feel like the mental 'want' was disconected from physical intake (ie. My stomach is distended from overeating, but still crave some more)? How long does the drive to eat / avoid food lasts? What was your energy / mood levels at the time? Do you have any medical conditions that may influence it? Were you taking any drugs or supplements at the time? What is your hunch on why the craving / satiety happened? What are the most delicious things you've ever tasted? If you had them repeatedly, would they lose appeal? What foods feel satisfying? What foods make you not able to take another bite?
To have any chance at patterns emerging, I'd prefer us to stick to natural products driving cravings / satiety or minimally processed foods. For processed food, please indicate the ingredients on it, including any fortification that may apply in your country. The more complex the ingredient list, the harder it will be!
We know so little of how hunger, satiety and cravings work, and yet it is so important. This interplay of 'feelings' ensures an animal (incl we) can meet its energy needs and (more impressively!) get a huge array of chemicals needed to buid and maintain its body structures and keep going a huge number of chemical processes going.
Given access to a variety of (natural) food - hunger, satiety and cravings manage to get this 'procurement' system going to astonishing precision. How?
What things can a body trigger cravings for? Is it just minerals? Macros? Amino acids? Types of fat? When does satiety kick in? Is it driven by energy needs being met? Micro nutrient needs being met? A combination of both? Which macro and which micro nutrient combos? Do other food compounds (e.g. flavonoids, protease inhibitors, anti nutrients) make a difference? Do mildly toxic plant compounds (tannins? Protease inhibitors?) trigger satiety? Can certain macros not be processed corectly into energy without given micro nutrients? Does the body know & try to correct that? How does the body know it has a need for something? How does it turn that need into a sensation of hunger / satiety? How does it know / learn what external food product can meet that need?

2024.05.16 14:03 cpiper22 Thoughts on this 2K list.
| I recently got into warhammer. I’ve played a few games and really enjoyed it. On the list I’ve posted I would still need to get the Lion and the knights. But my thought process is this would get me to 2K for not a lot of money. The knights have been chosen for their higher OC and good movement for objectives. I plan in the future to grow with some ravenwing. I would like to know of any combos used with the lion and maybe the inner circle champions or fun ways of using other leaders. submitted by cpiper22 to theunforgiven [link] [comments] |
2024.05.16 14:01 Blowback9 Tool-less upper / DIY 9mm AR Takedown!
Yep, more experiments and busting of myths.
I built a 9mm AR takedown upper without doing anything special, no tools, and the one "necessary" part for this to work is an el-cheapo $20 handguard.
I've been using an upper for experiments for a while now where I switch the barrel often. Taking queues from the Henry AR-7 takedown, I just used a traditional spikey AR barrel nut hand-tightened to hold the barrel on. You may see it in my videos now and again. And... It works just fine! No need to torque the barrel nut "to spec".
From there I decided to see what handguard/barrel nut combos were available to make it more "official", and found the Presma tubular handguards. These are the simplest of handguards - just a tube and a round barrel nut. By attaching the barrel nut (with red Loctite) to the handguard, the whole assembly becomes a big takedown barrel nut. As long as the handguard/nut stays tight during use, it runs just like any 9mm AR (and just like any screw-on barrel nut takedown gun). It may not be pretty or "sexy" like an M-LOK handguard, but it works just fine.
As a bonus - this can be assembled as a
completely tool-less 9mm upper (build list/prices in article below). It requires no vice, no vice block, no torque wrench, and no crows-foot wrench to assemble. Red Loctite or other semi-permanent thread locker for attaching the barrel nut to the handguard (NOT the receiver) is strongly recommended. The barrel nut assembly just needs to be monitored to make sure it remains tight. In practical use, I've never had it loosen by itself as long as I gave it a good final twist during assembly.

2024.05.16 12:00 magictcgmods Daily Questions Thread - Ask All Your Magic Related Questions Here!
This is a place for asking simple questions that might not deserve their own thread. For example, if you have a question about a rules interaction, want sleeve and accessory recommendations, or suggestions for your new deck, then this is the place for you.
We encourage that you post any questions that you may have concerning Magic the Gathering here rather than make a separate thread for each question, though for now we won't require that you do so.
Rules Questions Rules questions and interactions are allowed to be posted here, but if you need an answer quickly it may be best to use a dedicated resource like the
24/7 Magic the Gathering Rules Chat.
Deckbuilding Questions If you're trying to get help with a deck, it is recommended that you post your decklist to a deckbuilding website so that it is easier to view. Some popular sites are Aetherhub, Archidekt, Deckbox, Deckstats, Moxfield, MtgGoldfish, and TappedOut.
Additionally, please include some description of what you are trying to accomplish. Don't just give us a decklist with no explanation, and don't ask extremely vague questions such as "what cards should I add to my deck to make it better?", because it's hard to give good advice in those cases. Let us know details, the more the better. Are you building with a particular strategy or theme in mind? Are there any non-obvious combo lines or synergies that people should be aware of? Are you struggling with a particular matchup, or are you finding yourself missing consistency in an important area, and need some help specifically for it? Let us know.
Commonly Asked Questions I opened a card from a different set in my booster pack, is this unusual?
Don't worry, this is completely normal. If you opened a set booster, you have a small chance of obtaining a bonus card from a previous set. This is an extra card that does not replace any of the other cards in your pack, and is from a curated set of past hits that Wizards of the Coast has selected, which they call "The List".
You can view the contents of The List on Wizards of the Coast's official website. For example, the contents of The List for Streets of New Capenna boosters can be found
here.
My foil card has a shooting start symbol over the bottom left. I can't find anything about it online.
All old-bordered foils have the shooting star symbol. Most sites that display card images just overlay a generic foil graphic over all foil cards, which doesn't include the shooting star. Your card is normal.

2024.05.16 11:19 Blu3p I need help in changing/upgrading my cavalry charge precon to anti-control /anti-dimir because im helpless in my casual group
Hey Guys,
this is my first ever post, so apologies if i am not formatting it properly. I have a friends group who I'm playing frequently with and got me into MtG, specifically commander ofc. I bought the cavalry charge precon commander. Here is the decklist:
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/PrHvjllh3kuzVuSV2wyhCQ I did change cards too many times, trying to be able to make it stronger, but nothing words which is why I will just post the precon deck list, because I don't even know anymore what I should change or build with it. A friend of mine who is very into MtG loves to play control and combos to the extreme. Lately with his new decks, I just feel helpless because he can just either let me discard, reveal my hand and let me discard, take control of my permanents, bounce my permanents, kill them. (he can even bounce lands) and he can draw and discard a shit ton of cards to really filter out his entire deck for the perfect cards. With his deck before he would look for doomsday, pick his winning combo of infinite mana and exsanguinate. Noone could do anything. Anyway. I fell in love with the knights theme and tribals, but sadly there is nothing I can do with it and I feel useless, bored and very frustrated... because whatever I play, he just removes instantly, so i basically am just sitting at the table doing nothing.
His first deck which was so extreme, he actually considered changing a bit, because i complained about the tutor and infinite mana plus infinite damage:
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Jn-NGKlmqUSzWxfvRbbQ_Q and his current deck based on initiative, which reuses a lot of cards and is not a much different playstyle:
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/p9BocpINiE6OIwy_ieXwGg I only have the knights commander deck with sidar jabari (which nevers survives one round no matter how many times i bring him or try to protect him... i even tried indistructable stuff, but he can still just bounce them) and I love the deck and its playstyle, but I can't play it with him. Therefore I want to build a deck that counters him just as much and lets him feel what I feel when playing so that maybe he understands a bit and t sways him a bit away of playing too many mean cards the way he does. If possible and since I dont want to spend hundreds just because of this onyl mention budget cards that cost less than 5$ better yet, anything under 1$, only in the extreme cases where the card is suuuper helpful maybe 10$.
Sorry for the long post. Any help is very appreciated. I want a bit of revenge after at least 10 games where I literally lose and can't do anything. I don't mind changing commander or changing playstyle. I just want to repay the favor and feed him his own poison for a bit if you feel me. We are good friends and I am not mad at him or anything. I just want to share my feelings to him by doing the same he does to me, so maybe he feels my frustration that I felt after 10+ games with his control and insane combos.
thank you!

2024.05.16 11:07 Joppersfufu36 Looking for recommendations for my Urza, Lord High Artificer deck
Hello everyone, I am looking for some advice or overall feedback on my Urza deck. The power level at my LGS is pretty high and so I was aiming for a high power deck that didn’t push into cedh territory. If you were to place it on the number scale I would be looking for 8-9. I also excluded all the free counterspells I don’t own like force of will and force of negation because I was unwilling to purchase them at this point and felt uncomfortable proxying them, but overall I’m just looking for any suggestions on how to make sure the deck is doing what it wants to do. It’s a combo deck at heart looking to generate infinite mana with Urza and win through those means.
Here’s the list:

2024.05.16 11:01 schamppu DevBlog #37: Wave 2.5, new website released, statistics, roadmap, Syrenthia progress
| Maxchill made a cool animation for WalkScape! Hello WalkScapers! We have a lot to cover this time, so let's walk jump right into it! Wave 2.5 Wave 2.5 will be open between June 1st and June 15th. All supporters before June 15th 12:00:00 UTC will gain access to the game starting June 1st, or whenever you support during this time period. As usual, link your Patreon or Buy Me a Coffee (BMaC) to the WalkScape Portal. We are also planning to rework our integration with these platforms before Wave 2.5 starts. In the past, players had to wait up to 2 hours for their support to be recognized and beta access given, but we are hoping to provide a better experience by improving how this works. We will communicate when this goes live and would appreciate any reports on the new system. You can support the game at Patreon and Buy Me a Coffee. Why not Wave 3? We plan to stick to our original plan regarding the features we want to include in Wave 3. However, it seems this is taking more time than originally anticipated due to the prolonged struggle with fixing the Android pedometer. I feel uncomfortable about delaying access for those who've supported our development efforts after Wave 2 until the completion of Wave 3. It doesn't seem fair, so we'll compromise by introducing "Wave 2.5", where only supporters will gain access in a shorter time frame than our usual waves. Once again, my personal thanks go out to everyone who has been supporting us. We may have more of these "intermittent" waves when necessary. Thank you, and I hope you'll enjoy the game starting on June 1st ❤️ New website and roadmap Brand new WalkScape website! Our new developer, Myzozoz, has been hard at work, and our redesigned WalkScape website has been released with just a few things to improve further. Check it out! The new website has a new look that is now similar to how the game looks and feels. Also, it has some awesome new features: - You can see when the next wave is coming right at the top.
- You can see the newest development posts from Portal.
- You can see live updating stats about the game. I am personally super hyped about this, and the stats currently include a few fun things from the game plus daily updating steps gained by all of our players in a monthly chart.
- A press kit, trailer video, and more.
And most importantly: NEW ROADMAP In the roadmap, we're including what’s happened in the past, and also giving updated info on what’s happening next. We’ll try to keep this one updated as much as possible. I hope you like it! Pedometer updates So, we just released +242 earlier this week, and the great thing is that things are starting to look very stable once more in terms of the Android pedometer. Just as a recap of why we went through a lot of hoops to improve it: - The original pedometer for Android in the 1st Wave lost your step count when your phone updated/rebooted. This was not ideal, so I needed to come up with something that could retain your step count even when the phone restarts.
- The new pedometer retained your step count through reboots by introducing a background process for WalkScape that saves the count even while the game isn’t active. This, however, introduced a battery drain problem, especially on Pixel devices.
- I optimized the background process as much as possible, which reduced the battery consumption back to being negligible. By optimizing it, new edge case issues were introduced that weren’t caught in our internal testing due to our limited amount of devices.
- I started to fix these edge cases, and thanks to everyone reporting weird behavior. It’s great that we have so many devices in Closed Beta, as with your reports I managed to start tackling issues. This process was more or less whack-a-mole.
- With +242, we’ve now reached a point where we haven’t heard any serious issues apart from a few that I’ll cover below.
First off, this was a significant challenge from a development standpoint. Google's documentation on achieving this functionality without relying on their services (Google Fit or Health Connect) is… unclear. The fact that each manufacturer and Android version has different permissions and limitations with background processes made the development even more complex. If you're still experiencing issues with the pedometer not counting steps while in the background, these issues seem to almost universally relate to the permissions you've granted to WalkScape. Currently, I don’t have the time to make the game smart enough to prompt you to enable certain settings depending on your manufacturer and Android version, as that would require a significant amount of work. Common troubleshooting steps for background step counting, depending on your manufacturer and Android version, are (some of these may not be available/listed depending on your phone): - Enable Autostart permission for WalkScape.
- Grant permission for WalkScape to run in the background.
- Turn off disabling permissions from WalkScape when it's in the background.
- In your system settings, try placing WalkScape in "Background usage limits" into "never auto sleeping apps".
- Try enabling notifications. You can disable the mandatory sticky notification from WalkScape in notification channels, it's listed there as "WalkScape sticky notification (disable this)". All other notifications from WalkScape are opt-in and customizable through in-game settings, this one comes from Android.
- Try enabling "Unrestricted Battery Optimization" in app settings.
If you've encountered an issue that required special settings to get the background steps working, it would greatly assist me if you could provide information about your device, Android version, and the settings that resolved the issue. This will help ensure that new players are notified of these permissions, eliminating the need for troubleshooting. You can DM me this information on Reddit, send it to contact@walkscape.app, or DM any of our mods on Discord. Including screenshots from the settings would be even more helpful! Thank you ❤️ Syrenthia progress A new bank is coming to the game! A new bank is coming to the game! Now that the pedometer is mostly stable again, I've been able to resume where I left off, and we've made some progress. In the past couple of weeks, I've been adding buffs and abilities to the game. They aren't fully complete yet, but the remaining tasks are mostly UI work. New icons to display item keywords in the game! Buffs & Consumables Buffs are primarily temporary attributes that come from consumables. They can occasionally be gained from other sources too. Your character can have one active food and one active potion being consumed at the same time (potions will be introduced later with Alchemy). This restriction is necessary to maintain balance. When you're engaged in an activity and you have consumables in your inventory, you'll be able to select one to be consumed from your inventory while performing the activity. If your activity stops, the items that weren't consumed will not be wasted and will remain in your inventory for later use. The UI for all of this is still being designed and developed, but I'll share it when it's presentable. We're trying to find the best possible compromise where the UI will be easy to understand and quick to use, while also minimizing the chance of accidentally consuming items. This is why selecting items for use during an activity would be best, as it ensures that the player intentionally wants to consume their items. Abilities This hasn't been covered in any previous dev blog! Abilities are what we call actions you can perform in the game that have some sort of cooldown. The Syrenthia update will include some items utilizing this, mainly this very interesting item here: What do you think it does? Some items, and possibly other things later on, can offer you abilities to use instead of or in addition to their typical attributes. When you have an item with an ability, these and their cooldowns will be displayed in a new view in the game. You can also use these abilities from that view, triggering their effect and starting the cooldown. Cooldowns can be based on real-world time, steps, and actions. For example, using an ability might have a cooldown of 10,000 steps until you can trigger it again. Items containing abilities will be very rare and unique, and we want to keep them so that they don't add too much unnecessary complexity. If they have time-based cooldowns, they won't make you open the game every hour to min-max stuff. Both buffs and abilities will be going live with Syrenthia, and I'll share more screenshots of them as the UI gets finalized. Feedback on these is always very welcome! Statistics from the game Floursifter did some data crunching, and also provided a lot of statistics from your progress so far! Floursifter: It's been 10 weeks (a week after wave 2 launch) since we've been tracking tons of data from the game, and I have lots of fun things to share. Thanks for all the hard work, we've done over 1.5 billion steps together as testers! Thanks for everyone who gave some ideas in the general channel for how to improve this for the future. Until next time Phew, this was once again a very lengthy development blog post, and I’m glad you made it this far! There were a lot of things to share, and I hope you liked it. In the upcoming weeks, I’ll be working fully on new gameplay features, and I won’t be focusing on pedometer stuff for the time being unless there’s something critical. From the feedback so far, it sounds like the majority of the issues have been resolved now. We’ll see each other again in two weeks, and until then - happy walking and stay hydrated! I’m excited for Wave 2.5, as many new people will be able to start playing. submitted by schamppu to WalkScape [link] [comments] |
2024.05.16 10:59 MisterDragonAce Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Completionist Guide
>> Download The Guide Hello!
I've created a completion guide for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - it's an expanded version of the original guide created by
u/XhabloX that includes all the same content plus some [
link to their latest version].
* Please note this guide does contain spoilers - I would highly recommend playing the game through yourself without referencing the wiki at least once, the game is incredible and will send you on an emotional journey that is worth the experience - I cannot stress enough, do not use this guide if you're a first time player *
For the avid readers: I made this guide because I completely destroyed the guide I printed out by XhabloX with additional notes in stationary of all types, just got too hard to track, plus I like putting together these kinds of things so the process was fun. I haven't completely tested my document to make sure it's all up to scratch, so please reach out if you find anything at all that needs correcting, be it a minor typo or important missed info.
I'd love to hear from others any feedback, opinions/criticism, or even just how it helped, I'm glad to be a part of the community!
Guide Overview: - Guides/Checklists for your pre NG+ play through
- Checklist guide of missable quests, items, characters, etc. and important dialogue choices
- Complete checklist of all quests including base levels
- Check listed collection log of most collectable, craftable, and lootable gear, trophies, and alchemy items
- Checklist/Guide for hopefully collecting all Gwent cards; Lists all collectable and missable cards + list of all NPC gwent players
- Endings 'guide' that is more of a checklist of each endings requirements (this part differs the greatest from XhabloX's guide)
- Checklist of all achievements w/ rough explanation on obtainment (let me know if you want a more in-depth guide on these bad bois)

2024.05.16 10:55 psyEDk A few survival mods i've been enjoying
Inspired by
mocklogic's thread just wanted to share a few Survival mode mods i've been having a lot of fun with.
I love survival mode in these games. Roaming around lost with no compass, needing to take shelter and hunt for food, it's what got me into SkyrimVR and i'm excited to be bringing out more of that in FalloutVR
to use just find the sleeping bag in your inventory, drop it and it spawns in the world as an interactive item. absolutely essential for dropping down a save when you can't find a bed.
those booths you see in cities in the game, this lets you save when you walk inside. simple. super immersive.
it lets you get between different red rocket stations in the game, provided you have oil to fuel them.
there's two auto eat/drink mods i've been toying with.
does what it says. seems to avoid foods with buffs but you can tweak that in the mcm. pretty simple.
- Quick-Aid, though, puts a bit of a spin on this. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/38465
It basically combines your inventory of various meds into a single smart 'heal' that uses the optimal item. works nicely from the fav wheel, should work with virtual chems too.
the auto eating functionality is a bit quirky, but for the simplified healing i like what it does. definitely saved my ass when i didn't have time to go inventory diving in the middle of a fight.
and to top this off two mods from skk to ramp up the random encounters
there's more spawns patrolling, creating combat situations in the middle of previously 'docile' raider camps. all up it makes for a much more unpredictable wasteland. nothing like a little chaos to make things interesting.
And that's my dumb little list! Hope you found something cool. Let me know if you have any other favorites or alternatives :)

2024.05.16 08:33 WackaFrog Nekusar cEDH
https://www.archidekt.com/decks/5996976/nekusaur_the_mindraiser I want help optimizing nekusar for cEDH. Right now, he does really well in high power EDH, and he can win occasionally as soon as turn 4 (whatnot generally helps). I just don't know how to ramp out much faster earlier. Also, whatnot can stall out and die if I dont have colorless mana fixers or black spells, so I need an izzet mana filter. Beyond this, how do I win faster? I want the deck to have some win cons unique to nekusar, but I don't mind shooting for some infinite mana triggers (or even effects that just generate mana efficiently, like wastenot) or other outlets to win fast.
Current win-cons are underworld breach + ritual effects + wheel out the game, wastenotwheels, or just a couple pingers and some efficient wheels, pinger + phyresis + wheel. Normally, the wheel route takes 2+ turns, but wastenot or breach lines can close out the game the turn I play it. I've thought about using the wheels as an efficient way to dig for win cons instead of a primary win condition itself, whereas I can use them in grindier matchups to push for a win.
Nekusar is normally played as a contingency plan if I need a wheel payoff and don't have one, he's just expensive and doesn't have immediate payoff unless I wheel that turn, so hes hard to rely on.
Any ideas? I'll be brainstorming up some combos on my own, but it's kind of time consuming, so I thought I'd reach out to reddit for some help. I know there are the obvious grixis combos like thoracle+demonic/pact, but feel free to mention them so they're on the board. Any other fun win cons to use? I want ideas!
*budget isn't too relevant, but I only want to proxy for list cards if I can (wheel of fortune). Otherwise, I can put another $150 in and be satisfied.
Edit: I'll edit the deck as comments come in, just to try and keep it updated. Edit 2: I can switch the commander up, but for the sake of it, I want to keep it as nekusar.

2024.05.16 07:38 Mountain_Counter929 Making Aliens based off every pokemon type combination (Fighting)
Fighting/Normal:
OHKO (One Punch Man but instead of one effortless punch it’s a touch of death combo he has to )
Species: Mugen
Planet: Sonof
Appearance
- Humanoid blank white body
- Thick Smooth/Blocky appearance (like made of pillows)
- Headband and Gi are common wares
Powers and Abilities
- Enhanced Strength
- Unlimited Stamina
- Extremely High Pain Tolerance
- Semi-Mechanical Nature does not need to eat, sleep, or breathe
- Slight combat prowess
- Slightly stuns the opponent on contact with physical force (specifically after a physical hit. Applies to non living beings as well)
- Once an attack lands, it’ll receive enough energy to continue physically attacking it in a never-ending combo. Dealing blows significantly faster, gaining strength with each hit and eventually able to deal noticeable damage to almost any target with each hit.
Weaknesses/Drawback
- Slow movement
- Limited Fighting Capabilities
- Attacks are usually short
- Can extend reach but takes notable time so it needs to make an effort to land combo
- Combo can be interrupted, loses momentum and needs to land another hit when it does.
Species/Planet Fact: The Mugen started as semi-organic creations by a long dead civilization who sought to try experiments designing different types of warriors. Eventually the planet will be inhabited by foreign researchers. These researchers have been working on enhancing them with various effects to increase their capabilities, and give them more movement and combat options. But during testing it was discovered that watching the Mugen fight with or without enhancements is incredibly entertaining resulting and a strong source of combat study. This discovery redirected their experiments being used for sports instead of warfare even preventing what would’ve been an interplanetary war by turning it into a competitive sport, exploding the planet in popularity. During this explosion there was the discovery of a single fight between two Mugen that have went on for centuries before the first immigration and has been fiercely protected from interruptions since its discovery.
Fighting/Grass:
Doungwun Nemetrix predator of the Chunwin (See Kung book in Grass Types)

- Green Body
- Mantis like Body
- 2 Pairs of claws with sharp fanged ends, each with a long membrane hanging off of them.
- Multiple pair of locust-like wings under where abdomen should be.

- High reflexes
- Claws able to capture and break of Chunwin limbs, and attach to body of prey.
- Membranes absorb attack from Chunwin
- Long retractible tongue able to launch with precision and strength, able to pierce the body and grasp onto vital organs.
Planet/Species Fact: Despite the Doungwun seemingly biologically engineered to beat Cunwin on one to one combat, countering their various techniques. They rather take less ‘honorable’ tactics whenever possible. In populated areas they’d quickly overwhelm their prey with high numbers and quickly attack before the Chunwin gets a chance to swing. If there are aren’t any others nearby it’ll try to ambush its prey from hard to reach angles in the air. Only when it’s alone and has caught the attention of its prey, will it attach itself and engage its prey in close range combat. Most Chunwin societies simply use traps, or other tools to protect themselves from these predators. But a predator that chooses to engage in a one on one duel is more respected and results in a more respected death (for either one). So some Chunwin warriors leave themselves open to solo Doungwun attacks as some form of test.
Fighting/Fire:
Racaln the Nemetrix predator of the Clabestro (See Firing Squad in Fire types)

- Also able to block telepathic and electronic communication
- Able to use the natural weapons of digested prey (ie the guns of the Clabestro)
Planet/Species Fact: Racaln only prey on the Clabestro when they’re split up and small. They don’t do any harm when they’re merged on one bigger body. But since most Clabestro combat (which happens very often) has them in their small split up forms. This makes it common for Racalns to be collected from the wild or bred in captivity to be utilized as excellent traps, and denying area. This practice would also be used as a mark to safeguard places from violence, to prevent Clabestro from splitting to engage in combat. This practice has spread to official gatherings like courts and diplomatic meetings.

- Inflicts shadowy hallucination of a competitive animal (usually the same as the affected prey) causing the target to continuously attack hallucination.
- Target eventually tires out attacking hallucination, losing adrenaline and succumbing to hypothermia or exhaustion.
Planet/Species Fact: Giengar are omnivores. In cold seasons they eat large predators with their primarily skill of inducing hallucinations that tire out its target before having its body frozen over for it to consume with its teeth designed to crush frozen objects. They gain this power by consuming mushrooms from warmer, jungle biomes that contain spores which has a similar effect to targets that breathe them in (though less concentrated and ends with less fatalities). Giengars are immune to these spores so during the warmer seasons they migrate to the jungle to consume high amounts of these mushrooms to expel their spores in large concentrations during hunting season. Normal Ashe that occupy these jungles stay away from the dangerous arctic biomes the Giengars hunt in, so to them the Giengar are seen as harmless. Since even if the Giengars try to use the spores against them, the conditions aren’t lethal and the lack of the Ashe’s adrenaline won’t inhibit their ability to recognize their condition and react accordingly instead of wasting their energy fighting.

- Field camouflaged to be unable to be seen from below
- Able to communicate with Sabter to trick it on standing on the field, of the cliff before falling to their deaths.
Planet/Species Fact: While Ovivine can talk and mimic sentient emotions its only purpose is to gain the trust of prey as a mere predatory mechanism, their brains aren’t capable of deeper introspective thought or sentience when alone. Sabter are worn of the Ovivine though largely they are seen as myth with how very few sightings they are and how little the Ovivine are actually active due to their slow metabolism. Ovivines cover their prey on the floor and slowly consume it whilst morphing its body to appear as a mere lump of ground covered in grass, which is another factor into how little they’re seen. Occasionally they encounter some Sabter who are very much aware of them, and their tricks so in those cases they simply push them off the cliff side. Though this method relies on the element of surprise since their physical strength is much weaker than the average Sayter.
Fighting/Bug:
Ultimate Float Stinger (See Original in Bug Types)
Appearance
- Slightly bigger body

- Can only memorize and mimic movements not powers
- Can only enhance strength and speed in short bursts
- May be at risks for learning ineffective techniques
Planet/Species Fact: Due to the fact that all Reffox are all physically the same and that any unique skill that are developed is quickly assimilated by one another. Reffox populations share a yearning for a sense of identity. So many Reffox head off to other cultures/planets to use their learned skills to be able to make an identity of themselves, whether it be an athlete a performer, a warrior, a hero, or in some cases a criminal or ruler. This feeling is felt through all Reffox and when two of them meet, they silently agree to not show their skills to each other to keep their identity. Though if they do want to share they return to Arbeitar to tell their stories or inspire new skills for the next generation who would tell their story.

- Loses strength build after cyst has popped
- Mind can be altered to be more violent depending on hazardous substances consumed, commonly manifests in an addiction or violent temperament (usually removed when expelled)
Planet/Species Fact: Eons ago a large vapor of toxic alien pollutants was mysterious dropped on Omawoshindyu mutating all inhabitants and killing off massive amounts of life, however life stiff have adapted and eventually evolved resulting in the modern Gomanes. By the time their own society has formed, the pollutants have been absorbed into the earth or dissipated from the atmosphere allowing fertile greener life to grow. Ironically most of Gomane society promotes healthy activity like proper diet in exercise, for it allows them to control their cyst development more effectively even when there sped up, which they use in hunting and combat sports. However crime activity is still noticeable involving addiction, violence, and gang activity. Mostly originating in highly polluted/deserted wastelands. As various poisons are being produced and mines

- Body parts detached this way can still be controlled and are controlled by the head/brain they are attached to (all head/brain are in control of themselves). If their original head/brain is detached they can still be controlled by that head/brain unless it’s on attached to another of the same body part in which case they can’t move.
- With the exception of Rankensains who can control their own body parts even while their heads are on a different body.
- Different body parts can be reattached to other bodies detached this way, even in places the body parts don’t go
- Specifically in the Omnitrix after retransformation original rankensain body parts will dematerialize and all new attached body parts from detached bodies will fall off.
Weaknesses:
- Slightly slow
- Detachment requires strong force of contact
- Targets dispatched bodies can reattach their own parts, and can’t take them off again when put back into place (Can only be detached again by a Rankensain)
- Body parts attached to wrong part of body can be dispatched by anything even by accident
- Targets can disconnect different a body part that wasn’t originally there’s
- After regrowing a body part that was already attached, the original detached body part will lose its structure and melt
- Will die if all body parts are destroyed too fast
- Only their own body parts can detach other limbs
Planet/Species Fact: Body parts are the Rankensains main currency. While most body parts are gathered from hunted animals on their world. Rankenstains have developed interplanetary transportation to gather valuable alien body parts. Often by nefarious methods like warfare, grave robbing, or even homicide, making them a disdained and feared species across multiple planets. There are labs made to create clones of existing limbs to replace active hunting to remove the need for travel, but with how often exploration is used and how slow the cloning process is, Rankensains still commonly hunt aliens for their limbs as part of a darker slightly underground culture. To get around their negative reputation, Rankensains would remove their own brains and implant them into other bodies to disguise themselves.

- Natural chi-like energy and mastery
- Energy skills normally manifest as enhanced athletic skills and energy projection at a basic level
- Energy can be personalized into a different element or even power
Weaknesses
- Personalization initially requires a level of training that the Omnitrix transformation doesn’t initially give.
Planet/Species Fact: Initially Ansartyu were seen as pets of another more human-like species called the Shotogun and as intelligent as their owners. However, eventually the Shotogun would discover their ability to tap into their own personal well of the same chi-like energy and start practicing it for various means. However back then only a handful of masters would be able use it, and only at a very basic level. Until one Shotogun prince discovered that his treasured Ansatryu was able to tap into and unlock further levels of mastery. With this knowledge the prince learned from his Ansatryu and developed a closer bond with it, even teaching his pet higher levels of intelligence as he was taught further mastery of chi. Later he would teach others how to learn from their Ansatryu and his own Ansatryu will give intelligence to others of his species, leading to the point where Ansatryu are now partners living in the same world as the Shotogun in relative harmony.

- Weapon projectiles can only stay out a minute before dissipation
- Weapons take time and varying degrees of focus to charge before launch which increases with duration of animation
- Shooting out a large powerful weapon increases load time, and can’t shoot more weapons while the giant weapon is out
Species/Planet Fact: Arthmo is an artificial species created from a combination of alchemy and engineering by a master at both, commissioned by a great king. They were meant to be used as weapons of warfare and even companions. However an enemy army raided the kingdom, and killed both the lord and creator after the first Arthmo woke up. So the lab was well hidden so the Arthmo followed the instructions of its creator and created more of it, and slaying the enemy army. - Able to absorb Dalmate spots on own body
Weaknesses/Drawbacks
- Spots dissipate after minutes
- Unable to projects spots marked on body
Species/Planet Fact: The spotted biological materials that generate the Dalmate’s projectile “spots”, is a shared trait amongst a handful of different Cereberence animal species and even some plant life. Those species has a spot of a different color that was meant harm all other species/subspecie for predation or predator avoidance. Other species that don’t have this projectile ability do have spotted patterns on them to warn predators, or even create similar marks on objects to protect territory by intimidation. To weaponize their own “spots” Dalmate tribes would farm different animals and use them in different methods that changes their spot markings to battle other tribes with their own spot slinging skills to prevent it from being simply absorbed into its targets body.
Fighting/Fairy: Best-O Change-O (Magical Girl/Boy Recruiting Bunny)

- After an allies enchanted objects breaks they lose their gained abilities
- Ally abilities also go away when the Omnitrix Transformation ends
Planet/Species Fact: Lunakessho is a magical planet where all the inhabitants would practice magic, protected by an order of Usegin knights. However dark forces used by villains and monsters would arise practicing this dark magic and almost threatened to corrupt the universe. The Usegin order managed to fight them off but with a threat on that kind of scale and some remaining presence of their enemies they decided to seal of the planet into another realm. However, now there is an occult group mages summoned the order on various points of different moons using a ritual that was meant to be used in case they’re needed. While the Usegin heroes did manage to get involved in their traditional hero work. They’ve learned too late that this ritual will eventually corrupt them once all the full rituals is complete, and they’re powerless to stop them. So they now go to various planets and recruit and train other magical warriors to stop them when the time comes.

2024.05.16 06:28 doominator10 Ashe DPS Benchmarks 14.10
Back again, fresh off the mid season update.
DAMAGE AND DPS BENCHMARKS FOR 14.10
The recordings for the pedantic and ocd inclined Lvl 9 at 1 item LVL 13 at 2 item
Target dummy at variable armomhp All builds have Berserkers.
DPS should probably have a + or - 10 or so because doing the same damage can wind up with different dps just from slight differences in execution or calculation. When analyzing, you need to take into account BOTH the dmg done, and the dps over time, because either without the other can be misleading. For this test, I'm also including the dmg per gold calculation as well just for more context about what the items are providing.
As much as I stan Ghostblade Hexplate Ashe, it's probably not going to warrant the amount of damage missing this time.
THE TLDR STILL TOO LONG CONCLUSIONS:
Single Item:
- Return of the king, Kraken Slayer is the best first item for damage and dps. There might be a world where you just want to W poke only and then we'd be back to Ghostblade, but that probably isn't this world.
- Infinity Edge comes closest in performance to Kraken at 1 item. However it's 300 gold more expensive. As we'll see soon though, IE+1 > Kraken+1, so your 2 item spike will be stronger if you go IE first.
- Terminus or Bork first is kinda trolling if you're trying to be as strong as possible early. Even going for a 2 item spike, your best second item option is Kraken, which means you might as well have bought that as first item to begin with.
Kraken + 1 Item:
- Kraken into either Terminus or Lord Dominik's Regards are both ideal second items in for damage. Terminus is slightly better vs squishier targets. LDR is much better vs tankier targets. Kraken IE is very slightly more flat damage vs squishier targets, but worse dmg/gold because it's 400gold more expensive.
- Wit's End might be a viable damage alternative if you're only hitting squishy targets. You would also have to value the big chunk of MR you're getting, so maybe if you're fed and laning vs a double mage bot and more AP dmg across enemy team.
Botrk + 1 Item:
Ghostblade + 1 Item:
- Don't, but if you must, GB into IE and lean into full poke.
IE + 1 item:
- WITHOUT QUESTION, IE+LDR IS THE BIGGEST AMOUNT OF DMG YOU CAN ASK FOR. It doesn't matter if target is squishy or tanky, this combo out damages all other combinations and it's not close or funny. With one exception...
- Yun Tal Wildblades though, actually comes in an almost close second for damage in comparison. Weird. But cool.
- Kraken Slayer is the third best choice to pair with IE... but why build kraken when you could build LDR instead if you're going IE first? If you built Kraken first, then you're building LDR 9/10 times next anyways so Kraken + IE should never be a 2 item combination if you care about maximizing your damage.
- Not having any extra atk spd besides boots though certainly feels...odd. Your personal comfort matters so do what works for you.
Terminus or Rageblade + 1 Item:
- Don't bother building Terminus or Rageblade first if your goal is damage, because your next best item in all cases for both is Kraken. At which point, you should have just built Kraken as first item in the first place.
Inb4 half of these numbers are obsolete in a hotfix :/

2024.05.16 06:03 ByMyDecree Reviewing and Ranking Every Battle: Bruce Banner vs. Bruce Jenner
Tier List:
https://imgur.com/a/8uZCpGy Oh boy, is this one gonna be a can of worms. Let's dive in headfirst!
"I'll school you in this battle of the baddest Bruce, with your He-Man haircut and your Daisy Dukes." It's an unremarkable line, but the rhythm here is pretty kickass, and I
love the choregraphy of Jenner doing stretches in time with the beat, it's a really satisfying visual. "I hear you're good at running, you're just like the Flash. Especially in the 100-meter ditch-your-wife dash." Decent attack. They never fail to use someone getting divorced as material for a diss, do they? Banner looming over his beakers and microscope is a nice visual, and "You turned one gold medal to a lifetime of green; the most overrated athlete anyone's ever seen" is a competent enough attack. "You need to carry fatherhood across that finish line; kept up with the Kardashians but left some kids behind" is, again, a decent enough diss. A lot of material about Jenner's family here; I guess that's to be expected. There's still one or two much more obvious lines of attack to make, but I suppose Banner is just saving his best stuff for the end, right? He certainly wasn't saving it for the end of
this verse, in which he just references the fact that he transforms when he gets pissed off without fashioning it into much of an attack or boast. The use of strings in the music here is a really nice touch, although I'd say the green screen effect with Bruce standing in front of those neurons or whatever ain't looking so hot.
Actually, the green screen effects for this battle broadly aren't the best. That stadium Jenner's standing in is looking pretty low-res. "I think you're in your element when you're behaving badly; honestly you're kind of boron when you're happy." It's a corny pun, but the sentiment is true enough. "I'll lap and pass your ass ten different ways. Decathlon athlete blast through you like some gamma rays." This is filler; it's fine, rhythm sounds pretty good, but it's just taking up space. "The truth is there's no truce between the Bruces, you're a drifter being useless, I'm a winner, no excuses!" That's a
lot of playing on the same rhyme in a short period of time, and I dig that: truth/truce/Bruces/useless/excuses, hell yeah. I guess some of those aren't proper rhymes so much as, what's the word... assonance, maybe? It's good writing, is the point. The visuals panning in and out of this home gym is a nice touch too, and a nice parallel to Banner's sequence with his lab. "Beatiful women all up on my jock, I got a home gym, check me on the cereal box, Doc!" The rhythm Jenner's spitting here rules, this beat is low-key one of the better ones they've done. It's also a nice boast, and that Wheaties visual is pretty great. "You big green freak, don't try to flex; if it wasn't for your cousin, you'd never have sex!" Okay, this line goes super hard and I think it's one of the most underrated ones in ERB history. AND it's got one of the funniest visuals in the way Jenner pops in on that roller shouting "OHH!" while Banner suffers. That bit lives rent-free in my head. "You're so strong when you get mad, too bad you can't go back to protect your mom from your dad!" Holy fucking SHIT, this goes hard! The flow here kicks all kinds of ass, and we've got a 3x rhyme combo going on with mad/bad/dad; I LOVE odd numbers of rhymes! It's also just an extremely savage low blow. Another line that doesn't get enough credit. Jenner is kicking Banner's ass so far.
One questionable and inadvisable transformation sequence later, The Hulk comes in to spit a few bars. But only a few. "That painted face don't give you class; just one more thing Bruce do for cash!" Interesting argument. "Best thing you make? Kylie ass! She eighteen? Hulk SMASH!!" I do think this is a pretty funny way to reduce Jenner's legacy to Kardashian bullshit, and the Hulk SMASH joke always gets a strong reaction out of people.
Fully transitioned Caitlin Jenner comes in with "That's my teenage daughter, man, I have to forbid this; I'll put a javelin through your jolly green discus." Decent lines. Good way for Caitlin Jenner to brag about her athletic achievements while also throwing a Jolly Green Giant jab in. "Kylie not the kinda girl I'm gonna let you smash on; you'll get the medal without the decathlon!" I like the medeal/metal wordplay here, although Caitlin Jenner dual-wielding pistols and firing them at the Hulk feels extremely out of left field.
"Hulk is Hulk! No identify as man! Me thinks Cait might understand!" Pretty funny line, and Caitlin's reaction is also amusing. "No gender issue; this Jenner issue! Just you being you is enough to diss you!" So that's it, then? They're really not going to bring that one thing up, eh? I feel like that closing line would land a lot better if they did.
"Look I understand that you hate yourself; but you don't need to blame yourself." Oh, huh. That's different. Let's see where this therapy session goes. "You're a tiger, stop trying to tame yourself; you gotta be big enough to contain yourself." Well... I like that she's mixing things up by rhyming with the penultimate word instead of the last word, that's always something. They're clearly going for an angle of Caitlin relating to Bruce and trying to teach him to come to terms with his identity, which is kind of cute, I guess. "Be green, it ain't none of my business!" That line's pretty funny, as is the tea-sipping visual. "But if you think you're looking good in those torn-ass clothes; you're lying, which means you need a new wardrobe!" That's a reference to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, which has absolutely nothing to do with this matchup. Feels out of place because of it. And it's not a very strong diss besides, feels like padding. Doubly strange to end her verse on it. "The visions of those shorts kinda scarred me; what'd you just rage at a Barney themed party?" Oh, there's more? Alright. This burn is
really lame. Barney jokes? Come aaaaaaaahhhhhn, what are we doing here? That line should have definitely been left on the cutting room floor. "That's probably not something you seen as a child; not one day did you see your daddy smile!" Okay. She already established that Hulk's father was abusive in her first verse, and while it was a powerful blow there, here it feels much more toothless. "Hulk not strong enough to deal with denial! Laying you down easy; that's kitchen tile!" The first line is pretty amusing with how Caitlin imitates The Hulk's speech, but that second line... why? Pretty weaksauce way to finish her performance off, but whatever. Also not a fan of these visuals with the diamonds, feels like they wanted to add some visual flair but couldn't think of a good way to do it so they settled on Caitlin popping out of diamonds which is just odd. "Examine this under your microscope; you've got no neck, but you still fucking choked!" Oh. This verse is still going? Okay. Well, it's a good line. "After battling me, you're gonna always be pissed! So the Hulk will stay forever, neither Bruce will exist!" You know, that's actually a pretty strong closer, but I can't help but feel like it's undercut by just how long that verse was dragging on.
Okay, so. I feel it should be pointed out that there's a lot of people who were always going to hate this battle for making the decision not to attack Caitlin for being trans. Furthermore, the overwhelming sentiment has been that Banner won this; it bears keeping in mind that there's a lot of transphobes out there who were going to say the Hulk won no matter
what happened simply because Caitlin is trans. So to that end, I think that a fair amount of the hate this battle gets, and the hate that Caitlin's performance gets, is bullshit. But there are still some big criticisms that need to be made.
So let's be honest: they threw the match for Caitlin. Or at least
attempted to. You might still think the Hulk managed to win, but with that insanely long final verse it's pretty clear they tried to make Caitlin the 'canon' winner, as with Thomas Jefferson vs. Frederick Douglass. They did this presumably because it was pride month, and they wanted to say Trans Rights with a trans rapper that gets a positive portrayal. I can get behind that sentiment, but the execution is questionable to say the least.
Like... I'm not trans, but there's some shitty stuff going on here that's easy to see. For one, the cardinal rule that everybody knows is that you're not supposed to misgendedeadname a trans person, and the title of this battle is Bruce Banner vs. Bruce Jenner. So from the get-go, before the video even starts playing, we're getting some mixed signals here. Are we to take from this that they made the tactical decision to go ahead and deadname Caitlin for the sake of the matchup making intuitive sense(what with it obviously being a play on their similar names), and then try and do a hard pivot and make Caitlin win the battle to avoid criticism for that decision? Feels like maybe they could have just not gone with this matchup instead. The whole transformation element also seems dubious, but I could see someone reasonably landing either way on whether that's actually an issue or just silly fun, so I won't go into that.
Another issue to consider: Caitlin Jenner kind of sucks. Most people do not like her. Most
TRANS people don't even like her. For one, despite the fact that she's trans, she is a Republican who has made anti-gay marriage comments in the past. The bizarre shittiness of a trans person being like that is a pretty ripe source of material for disses, yet this battle does not bring it up at all. And more notably than
that, Caitlin Jenner was famously involved with a manslaughter case, where she was accused of getting someone killed due to negligent driving. It was ultimately determined that there wasn't enough evidence for manslaughter and so she wasn't found guilty(though it's widely believed that this decision was bullshit and she did commit manslaughter), but it's an extremely well-known and controversial factoid and it's insane they didn't have Banner bring up as a diss. If you're going to have a rapper make the case of "Just you being you is enough to diss you", seems like being a trans Republican and quite possibly committing vehicular manslaughter are the two strongest and most obvious points to go with. And yet... nothing. If your goal to make a battle that gives trans people positive representation, then Caitlin Jenner is a
pretty poor choice. If you don't want your trans rapper to look like a bad person, then maybe instead of ignoring either elephant in the room, you could just go with some other trans rapper in some other matchup. I get that there aren't a lot of choices for a trans rep with name recognition or ample material to work with, but... the Wachowski sisters are right there. And they've done more to warrant getting in an ERB than Caitlin Jenner anyhow.
Another thing is... why is it a moral imperative that Caitlin win this battle? Sure she's trans, and it's cool to want to give trans people positive representation, but you didn't need to give her an absurdly long verse at the end to do that. You could just give her good writing, refrain from shitting on her just for being trans, and sure, let her have the final word. Then, yes, show the pride flag at the end to say Trans Rights. That's all you had to do. With something like Jefferson v. Douglass the scale-tipping made sense, because it was a slave-owner vs. a slave. Yeah, it's kind of hard for the slave-owner to win that match, and it makes sense to use it as a vehicle to take a firm stand against slavery. But it's not like
this battle is Trans Person vs. Transphobe; Bruce Banner isn't some horrible person that must be morally condemned(there's a much stronger case for Caitlin herself), so... why have it play out like this? I think that ironically, by trying to hand the match to Caitlin they wound up getting more hate thrown towards the performance and more people voting against her in polls than there otherwise would have been if they'd just cut out all that excessive padding and given her a solid closing verse. As-is the verse isn't good, the overall quality is dragged down by just how much fluff there is.
In the end, my read on the situation is this: for whatever reason, they really liked the idea of this matchup and wanted to go through with it. They knew that going through with it would necessitate making it Bruce Banner vs. Bruce Jenner at the start, so they bit the bullet on the deadnaming and the conceit for the matchup and did everything they could to mitigate the potential backlash for that, going as soft on Caitlin as possible and giving her a verse that was ridiculously lengthy. People always say "but it's the Hulk, it makes sense he wouldn't say much!" and sure, I can buy that as an excuse as to why Caitlin's verse would be longER than his, but that still doesn't account for why it's as insanely long as it is. In any case... this paragraph is just speculation, I can't know their actual motivations, but I think this is likely what happened.
Anyway... despite all, this battle gets way too much hate. I think Jenner's first verse is really good, and the Hulk is also quite solid for as few lines as he gets. Bruce Banner is a little mediocre and Caitlin's last verse ends up just being a pain in the ass to sit through(could've been good if they cut all the fat and left in the handful of good lines) that's best skipped past on repeat listens. But still... there's some stuff here that is thoroughly enjoyable. I don't think this battle quite manages to be
good, but it's got enough going for it that I think it manages to avoid being outright bad. I'm putting this in the top of C tier, because I genuinely think it's more enjoyable than all of the battles that are below it.
It's understandable to say that The Hulk beat Jenner's second verse, but I think her first verse was pretty fire and the highlight of the battle. I say she edges out a win, but a case could be made either way.
Let me end things off by saying this: I once watched this battle with an extremely transphobic relative, and he was pissed off by that "no gender issue, this Jenner issue" line. So even if this battle was a regrettable mistake, at least they did
something right.
