My grandmother died in February. I hadn't seen her - or many members of that side of the family - since 2018, the year I got married. After my divorce in 2020, I moved to NYC. I've had a rough past few years, emotionally and financially. My Nana and those relatives spent their time in Florida, Texas, and Alabama (where I am from originally). Whenever I visited my immediate family, the extended family wouldn't be there.
I deeply regret not making the time to see my grandmother before she passed. I grieved her immediately, breaking into tears and weeping for weeks. I contemplated and researched the afterlife. When I texted my dad to ask, "When will the funeral be? Nothing could keep me away", he replied, "5.18.2024."
May 18 is my birthday.
I typed a message asking why my birthday was chosen, but quickly deleted it. I tried to calmly ask my mother privately and she became irritable, yelling at me, "Do not bring this up to your father. He's going through a lot."
I found out over time that because the ground was frozen in Vermont (where my grandmother raised her family before retiring in Florida), and Vermont is where she wanted her ashes to be buried, they had to postpone the funeral. She had seven children who had to pick a date that worked for all of them. But still...my birthday? My dad didn't care to speak up about it being his only daughter's birthday?
Here's the thing: my whole life, I have felt like the least favorite grandchild, niece, cousin, etc. I knew deep down that my grandmother loved me, but it was clear she loved others more. One time she chose to take my cousin to Disney World the same day my family had driven in to visit her. She told my father to come the next day, but he didn't listen, and decided to surprise her instead. She grew irate and rushed to beat us home so we wouldn't find out, but my Grandpa spilled the beans. She could have waited a day to take me and my brother, but didn't. We never went to Disney World with her.
She was a devout Catholic her entire life, but rolled her eyes when my eleven-year-old-self - a Southern Baptist at the time - suggested we all pray before we eat dinner. When she and my mother found me sitting alone one day (as a thirteen-year-old), I told them I was contemplating my future, and whether I could get into Harvard or travel to Europe. She burst out laughing as if that was the most hilarious joke ever told. (She never got a degree or worked.)
I've been writing creatively since childhood, but she always told me I needed a "real career" and I couldn't dream about becoming a writer. I have been tall and thin my whole life. When I began modeling, she said, "Modeling is not for you." She showered my cousins in praise and validation and gifts. She sent me gifts and cards, don't get me wrong, but the difference in quality was obvious. She scolded me over things my cousins got away with easily.
I loved my grandmother. I love my parents. I didn't want to hurt my dad so I kept my feelings inside and told myself my birthday was not important. But then my fiance and I went to dinner a week early to celebrate, and my parents didn't even wish me a happy birthday. They didn't send a card. I asked why. My mother replied, "Isn't your birthday next Saturday? We'll celebrate you on May 20 when we are all together in your city."
After she said this, it sunk in for me that they never intended to even acknowledge me at all on my birthday. So I changed my return flight from the 19th to the 18th. I asked my dad if he could drive me to the airport on my birthday after the funeral, and he said no because he had to "spend time with family." So I secured a rental car. I would now fly from Vermont to Detroit and finally return home to NYC at midnight on my birthday.
I have lived in NYC for four years, and for four years, my parents have made excuse after excuse not to visit me. I had to beg my dad to agree to visit me in NYC on their drive back from Vermont to Alabama, which he didn't want to do. He didn't want to drive into NYC to pick me up either. Originally my parents were supposed to pick me up from the train station in New Jersey this Thursday, and I would fly back home on the 19th, and they would FINALLY visit me in Manhattan on the 20th. It was all set. I was looking forward to exploring my dad's home town with him and spending some quality time together a few days before the funeral. Then out of the blue, my mom insisted I fly in on Friday instead, under the guise of saving my PTO. But really they just wanted to get to Vermont sooner. I told my dad this hurt my feelings, that I had been looking forward to spending private time with my parents in his hometown.
Today I called them and asked for help covering my Ubers to and from the airports. I'm living paycheck to paycheck, and they know this. Nana's will insisted that her estate would cover everyone's accommodations at her funeral, and I was originally told that I would get my own hotel room. Then I found out that I would be sharing a house with my parents and multiple relatives who were part of the original discussion to plan the funeral on my birthday. That didn't sit right with me. I wanted to go for my Nana and my dad. I didn't want to have to stay in the same house as people who don't care about me.
I finally told my dad today how I feel, on speaker phone while he and my mom were driving across the country towards Vermont. I said I couldn't believe they planned Nana's funeral on my birthday, when they had months to plan for any other date. I told him how my mother wouldn't let me express my feelings to him everytime I tried to calmly ask why, why MY birthday, of all the birthdays in the family? Why did it have to be on anyone's birthday? I said this has been a recurring theme all my life, that nobody in this family cares about me. He replied, "Don't come. If that's how you feel, don't come."
So now I am crying and wondering if I should cancel my flights and rental car, and miss out on my Nana's funeral, or just go, despite the fact that nobody wants me there...and based on their choice of date, maybe they never did.
TL;DR: My relatives planned my grandmother's funeral months in advance on my birthday. I told my parents this made me feel unloved and my dad told me to not come to the funeral if that's how I feel.

Wife comes from an abusive home. Her mom died when she was 11, her dad got remarried and her stepmom is kinda abusive. Her dad was always nice but Stepmom created a toxic environment and her dad slowly turned against even resorting to beating her and she couldn't take it anymore and started resenting her dad as well. We are both together since we were 15 or 16. Her dad never liked me because he wanted her to marry someone like his wife's sisters son. We are Middle Eastern and this is more or less accepted. Anyway she ran away from home at 21 when they refused our marriage and started living with me.
Now we recently moved to London and I'm currently employed here on a work visa.I plan on settling here. My wife is 8 months pregnant God Bless. I have a stable job. We are happy. But right about after a week we found out about her being pregnant my mom called me saying my wife's dad and stepmom, came to her house begging her to let him see his daughter. Now I have no idea where he got my mom's address from but my mom had to call the police to and get him restrained. After that there was no contact for 3 or 4 months or so. But then one day out of the blue I get a call from a foreign number and it's her stepmom. Now I had no intention of talking to her at all but she told me she regrets if she wronged my wife in any way, and told me her dad is extremely sick, and had a stroke a few days ago. He is currently bedridden and his last wish is to see his daughter for the last time. When he found out my wife was pregnant, I have no idea how he found out , he felt extreme guilt and he actually knew my parents address all this time but never contacted them. I guess he must have thought good riddance but now he feels guilt? But the way he said it was so sincere and I felt extremely bad. I tried to settle the thing by sending him pictures of us and more or less trying to end this matter. Now he told me that if I didn't let him talk to my wife it would be a bad omen or a curse on him. He wants to apologise and make it up to his daughter before he dies.
My wife has very strictly told me to never even mention her father's name again. Even mentioning the idea of reconciliation makes her cry and the memories and flashbacks send her into a conversation that ends with her crying and having a mental breakdown. What's even more worse is she's in her third trimester and her stepmom called me 11 times last night but I didn't pick up. I really don't want to tell my wife about her dad because I fear shes going to have another mental breakdown. This pregnancy has already been pretty rough and I don't have any idea how she's gonna react to knowing her dad is sick. I want to tell her because I don't want to be responsible when if he passes away and I'll live with the guilt for the rest of my life that I maybe could have given him some peace. But on the other hand my wife's attitude towards her dad and stepmom is that they don't exist and they never existed. She has told me stories when her stepmom used to turn off the ceiling fan in her room even when it was hot to save electricity, or when she would force her to eat nothing but rice with water. And when she complained to her dad he never listened, but when her stepmom told him lies about his daughter, he believed them and even went as far as to beat her up with a stick.
There's a part of me that just wants to say fuck you I don't care what you say. And there's a part of me that feels bad for an old father who regrets treating his daughter like that. There's also a part of me that thinks why now did he have to contact us when he could have probably done it in the last 4 years or so.
I'm currently contemplating what I should do. Should I tell my wife or should I at least wait until the baby's here and then slowly break down the news? Thing is I'm not entirely sure if her dad is gonna actually gonna be there when I eventually tell her, if I do at all. 2024.05.15 02:18 thegooddoktorjones My Review of the DLC, 13 years late
I played New Vegas a lot in the past but never did the DLC, usually got distracted by something else before I was tough enough to tackle it.
But I did a hardcore run with Viva New Vegas mods after the show came out and have been enjoying it a lot, especially the bits that are new to me. I just finished all the DLC, running them in order of release. Here's what I thought.
Dead Money: B+ some interesting ideas, creepy feel, repetitive, frustrating gameplay. Little sense of humor, grim. If it was 1/3 shorter I would have really liked it, but the horror vibe could not withstand that much maze running.
Honest Hearts: C-/Incomplete. As I complained at the time, the first NPC was aggro to me, I lost the main quest but was not informed of that and by the time I realized why it was so boring I did not want to go back and replay all that canyon trudging. Might be great, but seems poorly designed to have zero story and no recovery state if you happen to hit the wrong person with friendly fire.
Old World Blues: A I loved this one! I come to Fallout for black humor, scifi wackiness and satire. This had all that! Plus a hub-based location that made it feel like you were exploring something more than a hallway, some fun new weapons and upgrades, really good voice acting, funny writing, a base that made all the adventuring feel rewarding and some challenging enemies. I did all the side quests and found all the stuff and did not get bored. Only weak bit was the ending which did not quite hold together narratively and stretched credulity on some of the characters but it was still fine. Some quests a little repetitive, many runs through the same High School seems like someone pulling a prank.
Lonesome Road: B- Following OWB I was pretty excited to see the next direction but what I found was a bummer. I have not used Ed-E much this run, so it was fun to have R2D2 around for a while but otherwise it was a long hallway with zero-motivation enemies and a dickhead who kept throwing his half baked philosophical ramblings at me while I was just trying to slog on through. Some of the environmental stuff was impressive and showed they were getting better with the tools (blowing up warheads, crazy elevation etc.) but it was still just a hallway that I was only motivated to continue down because I wanted to find out what all this rambling was about. Turns out: not fucking much. As a Role Playing Game, this was 'Railroad: The Movie'. Several times, big nasty things just happen and you have no control over the situation or interesting decisions to make. Realistic storytelling? Maybe. A rewarding game? No. So I did something dumb/terrible in the before times that player & character have zero memory of and I had no control over and this wangrod is using that to justify his B grade Bond villain bullshit... and I get to be lectured about what an ass I am for this thing I didn't do? As a payoff to the intriguing hints left before it was a disappointment.
Back in normal New Vegas, things do seem a bit too simple and easy now. I got used to the upgraded production value and different environments. I miss the density of interesting things that OWB had, a lot. it feels more like a standard Bethesda fallout game even with all the mods and such. Glad I played them, don't know that I will repeat them again any time soon. But I will be using The Sink and Elijahs LARS, oh hell yeah.

But I did a hardcore run with Viva New Vegas mods after the show came out and have been enjoying it a lot, especially the bits that are new to me. I just finished all the DLC, running them in order of release. Here's what I thought.
Dead Money: B+ some interesting ideas, creepy feel, repetitive, frustrating gameplay. Little sense of humor, grim. If it was 1/3 shorter I would have really liked it, but the horror vibe could not withstand that much maze running.
Honest Hearts: C-/Incomplete. As I complained at the time, the first NPC was aggro to me, I lost the main quest but was not informed of that and by the time I realized why it was so boring I did not want to go back and replay all that canyon trudging. Might be great, but seems poorly designed to have zero story and no recovery state if you happen to hit the wrong person with friendly fire.
Old World Blues: A I loved this one! I come to Fallout for black humor, scifi wackiness and satire. This had all that! Plus a hub-based location that made it feel like you were exploring something more than a hallway, some fun new weapons and upgrades, really good voice acting, funny writing, a base that made all the adventuring feel rewarding and some challenging enemies. I did all the side quests and found all the stuff and did not get bored. Only weak bit was the ending which did not quite hold together narratively and stretched credulity on some of the characters but it was still fine. Some quests a little repetitive, many runs through the same High School seems like someone pulling a prank.
Lonesome Road: B- Following OWB I was pretty excited to see the next direction but what I found was a bummer. I have not used Ed-E much this run, so it was fun to have R2D2 around for a while but otherwise it was a long hallway with zero-motivation enemies and a dickhead who kept throwing his half baked philosophical ramblings at me while I was just trying to slog on through. Some of the environmental stuff was impressive and showed they were getting better with the tools (blowing up warheads, crazy elevation etc.) but it was still just a hallway that I was only motivated to continue down because I wanted to find out what all this rambling was about. Turns out: not fucking much. As a Role Playing Game, this was 'Railroad: The Movie'. Several times, big nasty things just happen and you have no control over the situation or interesting decisions to make. Realistic storytelling? Maybe. A rewarding game? No. So I did something dumb/terrible in the before times that player & character have zero memory of and I had no control over and this wangrod is using that to justify his B grade Bond villain bullshit... and I get to be lectured about what an ass I am for this thing I didn't do? I have my WiiU since 2012, never had any problem with it. Most of the time I'm the only one who plays on it often since my son got the Switch. This week my WiiU stopped showing up on the TV, but playing with the gamepad is working fine. I tried everything that i could. - tested on another TV with HDMI - tested changing the hdmi cable - tested on another TV with wii2HDMI - tested on another TV with Composite Cable (my tv's doesnt support component) The tests above were also done in the TV that it was plugged originally.
Just to add, my WiiU cables, power supply etc.. are all original. It's working normally, shutdown by gamepad or a single press of the power button, blue light on, no warnings or blinkin leds. This week, if I manage to find some time, I plan to open it up and give it a deep clean. Any advices on what this issue may be?

Wife comes from an abusive home. Her mom died when she was 11, her dad got remarried and her stepmom is kinda abusive. Her dad was always nice but Stepmom created a toxic environment and her dad slowly turned against even resorting to beating her and she couldn't take it anymore and started resenting her dad as well. We are both together since we were 15 or 16. Her dad never liked me because he wanted her to marry someone like his wife's sisters son. We are Middle Eastern and this is more or less accepted. Anyway she ran away from home at 21 when they refused our marriage and started living with me.
Now we recently moved to London and I'm currently employed here on a work visa.I plan on settling here. My wife is 8 months pregnant God Bless. I have a stable job. We are happy. But right about after a week we found out about her being pregnant my mom called me saying my wife's dad and stepmom, came to her house begging her to let him see his daughter. Now I have no idea where he got my mom's address from but my mom had to call the police to and get him restrained. After that there was no contact for 3 or 4 months or so. But then one day out of the blue I get a call from a foreign number and it's her stepmom. Now I had no intention of talking to her at all but she told me she regrets if she wronged my wife in any way, and told me her dad is extremely sick, and had a stroke a few days ago. He is currently bedridden and his last wish is to see his daughter for the last time. When he found out my wife was pregnant, I have no idea how he found out , he felt extreme guilt and he actually knew my parents address all this time but never contacted them. I guess he must have thought good riddance but now he feels guilt? But the way he said it was so sincere and I felt extremely bad. I tried to settle the thing by sending him pictures of us and more or less trying to end this matter. Now he told me that if I didn't let him talk to my wife it would be a bad omen or a curse on him. He wants to apologise and make it up to his daughter before he dies.
My wife has very strictly told me to never even mention her father's name again. Even mentioning the idea of reconciliation makes her cry and the memories and flashbacks send her into a conversation that ends with her crying and having a mental breakdown. What's even more worse is she's in her third trimester and her stepmom called me 11 times last night but I didn't pick up. I really don't want to tell my wife about her dad because I fear shes going to have another mental breakdown. This pregnancy has already been pretty rough and I don't have any idea how she's gonna react to knowing her dad is sick. I want to tell her because I don't want to be responsible when if he passes away and I'll live with the guilt for the rest of my life that I maybe could have given him some peace. But on the other hand my wife's attitude towards her dad and stepmom is that they don't exist and they never existed. She has told me stories when her stepmom used to turn off the ceiling fan in her room even when it was hot to save electricity, or when she would force her to eat nothing but rice with water. And when she complained to her dad he never listened, but when her stepmom told him lies about his daughter, he believed them and even went as far as to beat her up with a stick.
There's a part of me that just wants to say fuck you I don't care what you say. And there's a part of me that feels bad for an old father who regrets treating his daughter like that. There's also a part of me that thinks why now did he have to contact us when he could have probably done it in the last 4 years or so.
I'm currently contemplating what I should do. Should I tell my wife or should I at least wait until the baby's here and then slowly break down the news? Thing is I'm not entirely sure if her dad is gonna actually gonna be there when I eventually tell her, if I do at all. My wife can tell something has been bothering me and she thinks it's work but I'm just completely trying to ignore my thoughts but she's already asked me whats wrong and honestly I haven't told her anything but as I'm typing this my heart is racing and the stress of the situation is killing me.

Ill try not to make this long. So i started this weight loss journey last april ( the 6 months of appointments, testing, classes etc for your insurance to pay for the surgery) and i was approved and recieved my gastric sleeve on jan 16 of 2024. My start weight of everything was 404 pounds i am 302 pounds today. BUT for the last 3 days the middle and lower back has been kicking my butt it feels so stiff to walk like its my spine or muscles? I cant even pinpoint a specific spot just the area. I know i didnt pull anything it just started happening out of the blue. I havent been going to thw gym lately and i had planned on going back but with this pain im kind of sidelined. Has this happened to anyone else at this point after your surgery? Is this normal as far as you all know? The only thing i found online was i need more protein, or it could be loss of muscle mass, or posture changes since losing so much weight but i dont know.

Iโm looking to upgrade the hardware of my Unraid server. The server was built (not for unraid) back in 2012 and itโs time for an upgrade. I donโt do that much with the server (had been just Plex and file storage) however I recently installed Immich which Iโm loving but the processor isnโt up to the task of my 40k photo and video library.
I think I need to upgrade the CPU, motherboard and the RAM. Iโm not sure if I should update the power supply or not. I plan on using my old drives for storage.
My big issue is that my old motherboard has 8 SATA ports and Iโm using 7 of them (1 Parity HDD, 5 Data HDDs and 1 Cache SSD). It looks like to get 7 or 8 SATA ports I would need to get a top of the line Z790 board. I canโt decide if I should do that or look into a SATA expansion card (either m.2 or PCIe). I guess I could also try and replace the SATA Cache SSD with an m.2 cache drive.
My main goal with this was to make it as simple as possible. I thought I would just replace the hardware and boot it up with as few changes as possible. To that end I guess the motherboard with 8 SATA ports would be simplest, adding an expansion card would be next and finally changing the cache drive. I guess one other thing I could do is try and eliminate my smallest HDD. It is a 3tb drive and my array does currently have about 15tb free.
Iโm not that familiar with Unraid configs and upgrades so I donโt want to bite off more than I can chew. Everything with the server has been working fine with the exception of my new Immich library being slow to load all the pictures (especially when using facial recognition).
Am I missing something that I should do? Thanks for the thoughts.

1) I plan on swapping the 19 inch wheel to 18s, been looking at some wheels, are there any recommendations for the Golf R that will fit for sure? I heard the brakes are big and some wheels donโt fit over them.
2) What tire size is recommended with 18s? I live on the northeast USA and it may snow a couple times a year. I also face potholes while driving in the city pretty much everyday.
3) I donโt want to drill holes into my front bumpegrill, is there a good attachment out there?

- Side-Special - Zippy Zap: Charges up electricity as it's surrounded by electricity after charge. If charged, it goes farther faster dash forwards. If Uncharged however, it makes a quick short dash forwards.
- Final-Smash - Volt Tackle: Electrifies its entire body and blast forwards like a super-charged projectile and If it manages to hit an opponent, a large electrical explosion comes upon impact, launching nearby fighters, also dealing electric damage.

I have been friends with my BFF for decades. Weโll call her Julie. We are very close and tell each other everything. She has been with her husband for around 10 years. We get along great as friends. The three of us hang out often.
Over a year ago he asked me to meet about something important. I assumed it was going to be about Julie. Well it wasnโt.
He told me he thought he was falling in love with me. I got super pissed, basically told him WTH did he want me to do with that information, I wish he never told me and nothing will ever happen between us. I then told him that if he's feeling this way he must be missing something from his relationship and he needed to figure it out. I then stopped talking to him for many months. I only saw him if I had to because of seeing Julie.
Eventually it was forgotten, or at least I thought so, we were friends again and all was normal.
Fast forward to Two weeks ago. He out of the blue told me he still had feelings. I again got super pissed, told him I thought he was over it and that I wish I had told Julie the first time. I told him again to figure his crap out.
Well, a few days ago he told me he planned on telling Julie because of how guilty Iโve been feeling from not telling her what he told me. I got pissed off again and told him that heโs going to ruin my lifelong friendship with her because I kept the secret thinking he was going to get over these stupid feelings. I told him that I would stop being friends with him again so he can get over the feelings and we can move on with our lives but if he really couldnโt get over the feelings then he definitely needed to tell her. I am very afraid of what will happen if she finds out I didnโt tell her in the first place because I feel like Iโve betrayed her. But my intention was that he would get over it, and their marriage would be saved.
But Now I feel extra guilty for not telling her a year ago and for not telling her now. AITA for keeping this secret? Should I just say something?
