2024.05.15 10:52 Pabian_Partners How to Add a Barcode/UPC Code using Import Scenario in Acumatica?

Watch this video to learn about how to add a barcode or a UPC Code in Acumatica ERP:
https://youtu.be/LGQFS-4xcxg
Here is a step by step summary of how to add a barcode/UPC code in Acumatica using the import scenario:
Imagine you are using the Acumatica mobile app to look up an item using the device's camera to scan the barcode. You encounter an error because the UPC code does not exist in Acumatica.
1.Checking Cross-References- To fix this issue, you need to go back to Acumatica and check the stock item to confirm that the cross reference for the UPC code is blank.
2.Manual Correction: Add the UPC identifier by selecting the alternate type (UPC) and entering the UPC number. While this process works for a few items, it becomes impractical for a large number of items.
  1. Exporting the list: A more efficient method when dealing with a large list of items that need UPC codes added is exporting the list to Excel to make modifications.
  2. Modify the Excel File: Modify the Excel file to include only the necessary columns and adding the UPC codes for the identified items.
  3. Setting Up Import Scenario: Go to the integrations section in Acumatica and start the import by scenario process. Select the appropriate file and set up the import scenario.
  4. Mapping Fields: Map the fields in the Excel file to the corresponding fields in Acumatica, such as the stock item summary for the ID and the cross reference for the UPC code.
  5. Prepare Data for Import: Prepare the data for import by activating and importing a test record to ensure everything is set up correctly.
  6. Run Import for All Records: Once the test is successful, explain how to toggle activation for all records and import them. Mention that for a large number of records, this process may take some time.
  7. Confirm Results: After the import is completed, verify that the UPC codes have been successfully imported by checking the stock items in Acumatica.
  8. Reuse the Import Scenario: The import scenario can be reused for future imports by uploading different versions of the Excel file containing new sets of item codes.

2024.05.15 10:44 GarLuck4 A problem I cannot ignore (HFW)

I wanted to share a list of things I find lacking/wrong to see if you think the same. I must clarify a few things so you know where I am standing. I have not finished HFW... I have just finished the Kulrut mission of the Main story. I am a very particular kind of player as I tend to take twice the amount of time to finish a game compared to the average player. I have 97 hours on it and the statistics section says I have completed half the game, 48.77% specifically, a number that (I asume) stands for the overall game including side quests etc. Regarding the map, I haven't been anywhere beyond the stadium of the Kulrut so I have seen only half of it, literally.
All that said, let's begin.
I think that there is a lot of wasted potential when it comes to how the player interacts with the environment. This is a problem that I also had with the first game and all Open world games in general but it is specially annoying in this one because exploration, nature and ecosystems play a fundamental role on its narrative and gameplay. Considering how detailed and gorgeous are the graphics, phisycs, animations and almost everything, I find it sinful how biomes are only a visual effect with poor gameplay impact... A temperature mechanic that would force players to switch outfits (that could be a separate thing to armors or not) would have been awesome. It is ridiculous how ANYONE in these games seem to be affected by weather conditions and it is even more infuriating considering tenakth clans are basically divided into biomes. Sky people for example, half naked in the middle of the snow on top of a mountain. I remember getting to the desert at the beginning of the game and seeing in awe a huge sand tornado just to find out that it does not harm me at all... There are so many ways in which weather and temperature could affect the game mechanically. Machines being slower and easier to freeze in the snow biomes and the opposite in extremely hot weather. Stuff like that. The small rainforest section I could see so far is empty... Visually stunning but empty and boring. Animals are almost the same in every biome (with a few insignificant exceptions). It breaks the immersion for me to see a boar or a pig in every single place I go. And it is always THE SAME PIG OR BOAR, THERE ARE NOT EVEN 2 DIFFERENT MODELS. How animals interact with the environment and how inconsistent to real life they are is also horrible to me. I mean, Artemis did a TERRIBLE job at restoring earth's wildlife. That without mentioning the lack of different species and animals. It could have been cool to see aggressive animals too, like bears, snakes, big cats, idk, SOMETHING. The whole hunting system could be polished too, because, as it is, this is just like pressing triangle to pick something up but shooting a single arrow first. In their current state, they are just one-shot targets packed with items.
Plants suffer from the same things as animals, a few slight variations per biome but even worse as they are useless. Cactus for desert, snow plant for snow, water plant for water. It feels like a kid designed it. No real incentive for the player to gather plants really. And no, potions are not an answer, buying them is cheaper and time-saving not to mention how easy to find they are.
Travelling from one place to another is also... Meh. I think that fast travel should exist but be more limited IMO. The campfire shouldn't even exist and saving should be mannual (from the main menu) and automatic. In its current state, there is no reason why the player should go anywhere by foot or using a machine. Fast travel packs should be A LOT MORE EXPENSIVE and work as a whole settlement. It would have been cool if they would have taken RDR2 idea where you have to set a camp. The feeling of travelling alone in a dangerous land is lost the moment I can run a few meters away from a machine and fast travel to the other side of the map. It would be a lot more immersive and make cities or small settlements more valuable. You never get to feel unsafe, alone, far from civilization. As there is probably a campfire, abandoned settlement, city or town every 100 meters. Everything is easy, quick, at hand.
The game's economy does also need some rework. Crafteable items shouldn't be for sale at all. That way, gathering stuff would feel more rewarding and necessary. The same goes for animal and machine parts. The last two are negotiable, make them expe sive, really expensive, and that merchants that offer those products are rare and scarce, just like the special merchants from meridian that doesn't exist in this game. I actually love how they handled machine parts in this game as you have to change strategies to get a specific part, no complaints with that.
Machines are nerfed during side and main quests. This is so stupid and mainstream-designed bullshit and I cannot stand it. It is so ridiculous how dumb and weak a thunderjaw is in a quest compared to hunting it in the open world. This was not a thing in HZD or at least I do not recall it being like that.
"Anyway, that is all I got for now GAIA. Time to tuck in."
"I Wish you a pleasant sleep, Garluck."

Too Long Won't Read- I made a prettier version of the rules to print out with some small changes here and there.
While I really like this rule-set that was put out I wanted something that I could hand my players that wasn't just a bunch of text on pages. I also didn't care for a few of the formatting choices (keeping item descriptions and costs in one section, and their repair and crafting requirements in another for example). I have spent the last week going through and prettying up the rules with Vault Boy images from the games and some AI generated art as well as reformatted a lot of sections.
As I made this with an eye to printing it into an actual book the vast amount of changes have been in the formatting, primarily making the language more concise in order to fit sections of rules onto certain pages. A special eye was given to having both sides of a two page spread be relevant to each other as well, this lead to several full page art images being added as filler.
While few and far between there are some minor rule changes I made to suit my table you should be aware of if you want to print this out yourself:
  1. Power Armor Crafting has been changed so all suits take different materials, special equipment is needed, and Power Armor Chassis are now model specific(there is also a lore write up for different types of power armor to go along with this). Power armor stats have been tweaked as well.
  2. Climbing and Swimming. Maybe it is because my group doesn't play 5e, and I know the rules are based upon it, but we could not for the life of us figure out what was being described here so I wrote up new rules to fit what little we could glean from the original rule set.
  3. Syringe "Loader" variants are now locked into their variant at time of creation.
In addition to make the language in many sections more concise "missing" rules that are referenced are also included (Off-Balance, looking at you), and somethings are renamed so they point to the correct sections.
If you want to print this out I would recommend printing the cover separately and printing the "no cover" file so that the pages line up properly (if the page numbers are on the outside edge of the paper you printed it "correctly").
Unfortunately due to a font issue the PDF's aren't searchable, not a big deal for me as I intend to print it but might be annoying for those who prefer reading rules on a computer.
Enjoy, and my thanks to everyone who worked to put these rules together!

2024.05.15 10:22 SkilledNigiriEater A neighbour has stolen my parcel and now I'm in a months long dispute with the sender. Who is liable?

Hi all,
I'm in a dispute with Three and could really use some external help to make sure my argument in the dispute is watertight.
Context:
I ordered some broadband from Three around 2 months ago, the router was delivered to a neighbour in my block of flats. It was "signed for" under my name and a proof of delivery photograph featuring a headless woman was the evidence. All the doors and carpets in my building look the same so there was no distinguishing features to give an indication of who it was.
I asked around the neighbours over the next few days and everyone said they hadn't received a parcel. I also sent a letter around giving whoever had the parcel an ultimatum to leave it in front of my door before I opened an investigation and no one came forward - so clearly someone was lying.
I contacted Three about this and they said they'd look into it, a week later they said they looked into it and the device was confirmed delivered - to which I said that it was delivered ot the wrong address - their reply was that there was GPS evidence, to which I replied that the GPS evidence could represent any one of the 25 flats in this building and that the photographic evidence of someone recieving the parcel was someone who was not me.
I offered to give further evidnce, via proof of signature, a picture of myself to show that it was not me who had signed for the parcel which Three refused to accept reiterating that their position was that the parcel had been delivered.
At this point I escalated the case to the Ombudsman.
After closing heir internal complaint Three then began to aggressively pursue payment from me, despite me contacting them numerous times to tell them that the issue is with the Ombudsman and I wouldn't be paying for anything as the contract terms hadn't been met.
Three's argument:
Now in the Ombudsman investigation Three's claims are:

2024.05.15 10:05 Dragoot Support companies Tier List Part 3 FAQ

Support companies Tier List Part 3 FAQ
I recently published posts with a Tier List that did not correspond to generally accepted wisdom, so I titled it "Change my mind". https://www.reddit.com/OldWorldBlues/comments/1cpfonk/support_companies_tier_listchange_my_mind/ https://www.reddit.com/OldWorldBlues/comments/1cpg25h/support_companies_tier_list_v2adjusted_change_my/
Tier List v2
And in general, the comments did not change my opinion much, so below I elaborate why.
The most controversial topic, Chems.
IMHO love of them is missguided.
First point: For a good kill/loss ratio, absolutely NOTHING beats the encirclement. One of the comments said:"Bro doesn't know what war attrition is." Yeah! I believe that if you find yourself in a war of attrition, something has gone terribly wrong. I fight a war in such a manner that I don't care if I lose more soldiers and equipment during the offensive, because I know that once the encirclement is complete, closing the pocket will shift the casualty ratio tenfold in my favor.
Second point: Chems are highly tech dependent. Early game matters most, on how well it goes depends how you snowball through the rest of the campaign. By the time chems start giving significant bonuses, the fate of the game has already been decided.
Maintenance.
Maintenance gets the same criticism from me as chems, only worse. Because in my experience the main bottleneck is manpower not equipment, and states with good industry and/or trade income can simply tank equipment attrition.
Dogs and CnC attachment.
Both are good for occupation, but I don't take it into account, since an occupation requires winning the war to begin with, I consider all occupation units to be a luxury. Yes. It’s great to have them, but not to the detriment of the main army.
Meanwhile, their combat bonuses are good, but not the best. Dogs give movement speed, but 90% of the time, due to the terrible infrastructure everywhere, average speed of divisions is very low, and increasing almost nothing by 10% still gives almost nothing.
CnC attachment gives organization, but this is rarely useful, because IMHO it is better to make a template with high organization and give it support companies with high damage than, on the contrary, make a template with low organization and increase it with CnC.
In short, Dogs and CnC is good, but balancing production with the needs of the army is a big problem, therefore I am allergic to the production of a large number of different items. So, I almost always use them, but at that moment when everything is already going well for me.
Logistics is not a particularly controversial subject. Probably because I placed them in the middle.
They are situational, but sometimes necessary, especially in the later stages, when the armies are huge and supplies are in dire need. On their own, they are quite weak, but they all add up to bonuses from the skills of commanders and officer corps.
Anti-tank - always, in all divisions. If the armor is not penetrated, the enemy receives a large breakthrough bonus. And many units can have armor, not only tanks and power armor, while ordinary infantry weapons at the beginning of the game give very little penetration. Plus Anti-tank also gives a soft attack on-top, so by adding it to the division you kill two birds with one stone.
Recon- Most people are not sure how it works. and there are many myths around it(like for example that it is useful only in defensive divisions). In short, in OWB it is even more important than in vanilla since it is impossible to manually select the preferred tactics in the officer corps or for individual commanders, and having higher intelligence than the enemy translates into 10-25% more damage and breakthrough/defense. Motorized recon is a straight upgrade, so I didn’t bother making separate icon for it.
The rest are simple: more damage and more breakthrough->more encirclements->Great success!

2024.05.15 09:59 Its_Not_Bloodborne This is the pinnacle of what seasonal content should be.

I don’t want any throwaway story lines or some gimmick that’s set to be trashed next season entirely for only one aspect to be carried over. Meaningful gameplay updates that truly move the foundation forward is what game studios doing live service games should be doing. It puts the service part of the equation front and center, rather than feeling like a way to gut my wallet.
Next y’all should really prioritize your input queue and nail down the feel of the combat, as well as look into a way to add nuance and simplicity to the paragon board rather than a glut of miniscule numbers. Make end game progression on the board fundamentally alter your gameplay and build much like how the itemization improvement moved the needle forward with both approachability and more readily apparent build crafting.

2024.05.15 09:58 James_ggl Rant about Aliexpress

A little rant about the products on Alibaba and how on earth this can be a viable business. I had never bought anything on Alibaba and rarely buy anything online unless from well-known chains in my area. Now I had downloaded their app, which in my opinion actually looked absolutely terrible (poor translations, poor user interface) I placed an order and got prompts to order some more items. My order: Xiaomi earbuds, military grade torch, powerful power bank and a drone that can shoot HD footage and fly 3km far. Now everything was delivered pretty quickly after +/-10 days in Belgium but what transpired. Everything was really of the worst quality, fake and did not deliver at all what they promised. How can this business run such good numbers? Do they still have returning customers? I only relied on this company numerically for my investment but now that I have experienced it as a customer, I really wonder what a mess this is. Change my mind.

First time selling things on FB, a gentleman reached out to me about an item I was selling. He said he wanted to use Meta Pay and asked for my email so he could send payment, once I gave it to him I recieved an email from facebookmarketplaceservice@gmail.com about an notification of payment. This email had no sketchy links to click and stated "Important Note: This payment is "APPROVED" and has been deducted from the buyer's account but will not be credited into your account until the shipment tracking number is sent to us for verification through this email. Once you’ve sent our pay center the tracking info your funds will be credited (this is to ensure the safety of the buyer and seller)." However i feel uneasy abkut just replying to the email with tracking information in hopes that my account gets credited. Is this how it usually works? Idk something doesn't seem right here?

2024.05.15 09:32 Tejmouse New PC Stutters horribly In games

The main issue is despite building what I thought was a mid/higher end PC, I am facing great stuttering problems in games. For Elden ring and cyberpunk for example, my fps drops to around 30 regularly, and 15 on occasion.

Previously tried solutions:
Update Bios
Update chipset drivers
Update Nvidia graphics card drivers
Select max number of processors in system configuration
Select 4070ti card for global settings in Nvidia control panel
Select unlimted shaders cache in Nvidia control panel
Turn on Image Scaling in Nvidia control panel
Re-install windows
enable XMP in Bios
I've sunk a good chunk of money into this so I'd really like to get more than 30fps stable on this system, otherwise I just would've bought a cheaper pre-built.
Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to help me!

Memory Transcription Subject: PFC Alus, Yotul auxiliary to the UN Spaceborne Infantry
Date [standardized human time]: March 3\**rd 2137, 1000 hours ship-time
After Gutierrez showed me to our compartment, and I dropped off my duffelbags, he began leading me to the Armory, where I would be assigned my rifle and 'sensitive items' as he put it. As we walked, my mind churned with more questions.
"Hey, uh, Guts. Back in the supply compartment, you mentioned the 'USMC'? That's the American Marines right? I thought you were UN Spaceborne infantry."
"Yeah, so, I am a Marine. Marine to the core. But Earth sorta got thrown into this whole clusterfuck without having a properly unified military, and instead of trying to set up a whole new service from scratch, they got the big five on the Security Council, being us, the Brits, the French, the Chinese, and the Russkis, to pitch in units. So you got Marines and Army making up the American portion of the SI, and Navy and Airforce making up our part of the fleet. Same for every country that pitched in, even some outside the UNSC." Gutierrez explained, his hands moving about animatedly. "Right now it's a hot mess because none of the standards, paperwork, or anything changed, but I guess they'll probably formalize and standardize the SI and Fleet after all this shit is done. All we currently got that's the same is rifles, uniforms, and equipment. The traditions and paperwork and shit are all wildly different from one countries units to another, and sometimes even within the same country's units because of different branches. The US Marines and US Army for instance, we share a lot of the same shit you know, but our low-level paperwork is branch-specific, and our organization is different."
I thought for a moment about what he was saying as we walked though the passageways, pondering on the idea of what a truly united Human military could accomplish, if everything Humanity had done so far was with a truly thrown-together force. As I looked up again, I saw we were approaching the armory, and mentally filed my next question away for later. We crossed through the threshold, and I found myself standing in front of a grated window, another Human on the other side.
"Sarn't Johnson, I'd like you to meet our new Yotul auxiliary, Alus. We're doing inprocessing, and need to get his weapon and equipment drawn and assigned."
The new Human looked down at me curiously and smiled, before reaching down and grabbing a few sheets of paper from under his desk.
"Alright" the Sergeant said, before moving deeper into the armory, stopping at a weapons cage, before unlocking it and inspecting the rifles line up inside "So, what are we billeting him as?"
"Just an 0311, needs a rifleman's kit and associated gear" Guts replied, leaning forward to watch the Sergeant.
"Gotcha. Just gimme a minute here."
Guts and I watched as the Armorer pulled a cart over, and picked out a rifle, laying it down on the cart, and locking the cage, before moving to the next rack and removing a small black bag, repeating the process along the line of cages across one wall of the armory, before coming back to the front, and pressing a button on his desk. I heard a click from a door next to the grated portal, and Gutierrez waved for me to follow him through the door, and into the armory.
The Sergeant had sat back down, and was poring over what appeared to be a checklist as he inspected each piece of equipment, ticking them off down the list one by one. When he was done, he clipped it to a clipboard, and handed it off to Gutierrez, before looking toward me.
"So, Heard you fellas went through some sorta training dirtside, so you should be familiar with at least the rifle?" He asked, picking up a notably shorter version of the standard UN rifle I had qualified on Earth with.
"Yes, ours were longer, it kinda seemed like they weren't really meant for non-Humans to use. We could all barely aim them shooting, uh, offhand I think it was?"
"Yeah, sounds about right for an indoc unit. The M-36 is a piston gun so it's good bit heavier out front than the old M-16's the Corps used to issue way back, Mag in the back kinda balances the whole shebang on the carbine variants" he slapped the side of the firearm he was holding "But on the full length rifles they're just ungodly long barrels. Ay, Guts, something like a 28-inch heavy barrel on the old M-36A1's?"
"Yeah, something stupid like that," Guts said, looking up from the paperwork he had been signing, as he set it down on the table. "Marines wanted a gun that was the same length or shorter than an M-16, Piston, and could reach out to like 800 meters with 5.56. I think Bushmaster pulled out some old relic from the 20th century and just modernized it? I remember the K&M lawsuit right when we started getting the A1's back in 2130, but yeah."
The sergeant nodded and turned back to me, pointing at the firearm again "So, when the Corps finally removed their head from their fifth point of contact-"
"Their ass" Gutierrez helpfully interjected, grinning
"Yes, But anyways, They saw some issues with going back to a full size rifle, and got carbines made to replace the A1's for combat arms. Shorter barrel, shorter gas system, shorter receiver, way lighter out front. Super nice shooting guns to boot. Bushmaster also sold them on this neat quick-change barrel system they thought up too, so now we have a bunch of smoothbore barrels for flechettes, rifled barrels for traditional ammunition, pencil barrels for riflemen, heavy barrels with bipods for autoriflemen, in a bunch of different lengths. These fuckers are modular as hell."
The sergeant had what was probably the widest grin I'd ever seen on a Human as he finished talking, and it very nearly took me aback, despite the Yotul, myself included, not having the same issues with Human mannerisms as the wider Federation.
"I-I'm not gonna have to carry all of those, right?" I asked, hesitantly, and Gutierrez broke out laughing, while the sergeant suppressed a chuckle.
"Nah kid, we just pick a rifle and swap the barrel to the one you need for what you're doing. Mostly just makes shit easier on my end really. You're just getting a carbine-length pencil barrel, lightest of the bunch."
The Sergeant shifted, bringing the rifle to his shoulder, and pointed it at a canted barrel, sticking the muzzle in, and pulled back the charging handle, sticking a finger into the rifle's ejection port, before looking in, and releasing the charging handle, before pulling the trigger with a 'click'. He then held out the rifle for me, and I took it, surprised at how much lighter it was than the one I had been issued in training.
"So, one M-36A2." the Sergeant said, before pulling a metal cylinder from a small pouch, and peering through it up at one of the lights, before getting up and grabbing a metal rod, and walking over to me. He stood alongside me, and slipped the cylinder over the muzzle of the rifle, before inserting the rod down the barrel, and peering closely at a small gap around the rod.
"And one suppressor. Clears the rod check so that shouldn't give you any issues. Guts should be able to explain the adjustable piston to you so you don't get gassed in the face while you're using it." With a quick twist of a collar on the back of the tube, the armorer pulled the device off the muzzle and stuck it back in it's pouch, and picked up a larger cloth case. He pulled something that looked like a visor on an articulating arm from it, and inserted a pair of batteries into a cylinder that ran along the top.
"This here is the AN/PVS-101 'Fused vision system'. Little heads up display that links up with the rest of your fireteam, and also has thermal and Infrared overlay. Just a fuckin' neat piece of kit honestly. Datalink is hardened to all hell, and the whole system's idiot-proof. I've seen ones that pre-date the Satellite Wars. Uses an accelerometer and gyro system to keep track of where you are in the area, and can pulse lidar to give you visuals in full pitch-black. You can also mark obstacles, enemy troops, vics, whatever with eye-clicks, and the system keeps track and spreads that out to all the linked systems. Plus there's a version that goes to the fireteam leader, which transmits all that collated data back to company level, and gives them an up-to-date picture of everything that's going on. Just honestly fuckin' cool."
He then held up a square plate on the back of the arm to his forehead, and withdrew a small box from the back and touched it to the back of his head.
"The FVS mounts to the socket on the front of your helmet, and the Processing unit just mounts to the rear, acts like a counterweight too which keeps your neck from hurting nearly as much while you're using it."
Placing both items back in the cloth bag, He finally held up what was obviously a handheld radio, and a set of earmuffs.
"This is the AN/PRC-255. It's a radio, and might as well work with Angry Pixies. I know it's got a 60 mile range, and hops frequencies, and the Comms nerds have some kind of black magic ritual to make them work. The hearing protection doesn't have some letter-and-number name, but they hook up to the radio, and they'll also link up to other headsets nearby like the FVS to communicate without radio. The Radio isn't nearly as impressive as the FVS, and the hearing protection hasn't changed in a meaningful way in about a hundred years. 3M is the Browning of comms gear, I swear. And, that's petty much it."
I looked at the neat pile of equipment sitting next to the carbine, and looked down at my hands, realizing I had nothing to carry any of it with, before looking up at Gutierrez.
"Is it alright if you carry some of this, I don't think I can carry it a-" I said, before I was cut off by laughter from Sgt Johnson.
"Nooooooo, no kid." The sergeant said, wiping tears from his eyes. "This all stays here unless you actually imminently need it. It's assigned to you now, but it stays under lock and key." he explained, while Gutierrez seemed to look simultaneously aghast and about to burst into laughter. My abbreviated training had failed to explain a few things, it seemed, as I had simply assumed that they had locked up our equipment because we were were trainees.
"See, everything in here is either VERY killy, or VERY expensive. And Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines around Earth all have a penchant for shenanigans, and breaking anything they touch. Occasionally themselves too, if left entirely unsupervised with dangerous objects. So we don't let any of you have things which can be described as 'Killy', 'Expensive', or 'Killy and Expensive' unless it's specifically pertaining to the task at hand, Rah?"
"I, uh, see yeah. Rah?" I replied, somewhat dejectedly, and slightly confused.
"Rah." The Sergeant said in reply, and began to load all of the 'Killy and expensive' equipment back onto the metal cart, chuckling to himself still, as Gutierrez tapped me on the shoulder.
"Hey, chow's in about an hour, let's get you back to the barracks so you can get your OCUU's on, and outta those class-B's right?"
"Yeah, that sounds good, I don't think I've eaten since before I arrived at the Orbital, I'm starving" I said, as I followed the Spaceborne Infantry Marine out of the Armory's door, and back down the passageway to the berthing areas of Grunt Country.

2024.05.15 09:19 thisvideoiswrong Quick Looks 3: Vo'Quv Carrier

By my count, there are 15 T5 ships available for just dilithium or a level 40 token, which someone might want a starter build for to help them finish off the episode missions and start the reputation grind. My Strict Budget Build covers the three science vessels, the Baby Step series covers the three cruisers with tactical ensigns, Quick Looks 1 and 2 cover the Hegh'ta Bird of Prey and the Jem'hadar Escort, and there's definitely an argument to be made that some are just bad choices. But there was one more I wanted to take a look at here. This series will not be as thoroughly researched as those previous series, and it will not feature optimized skill builds (there are many resources for that), but the builds will be proven in the Badlands Battlezone and in solo Defense of Starbase One Advanced, as well as extensively parsed in the Wanted (Argala System) patrol with comparisons to similar builds. That should adequately demonstrate that they can get you whatever reputation marks you need, using only mission, basic (generally Mk XII uncommon) Exchange, and Phoenix Store items. Each build will be allowed one Mk XV item to maintain parity with the Strict Budget Build, usually a forward weapon. It's also easy enough to put these together that I could be persuaded to do more if there's a ship that deserves it.
So, why the Vo'Quv? Well it's in the name, it's a carrier. Hangar bays are expensive to boost in this game, but that means they have to be balanced to have pretty good base damage. In this case the two hangars did more than half the damage of most of the other builds in this series with hardly any support for them. The downside to carriers is that they often sacrifice a lot for those hangars. Not so for Flight Deck Carriers, which are pretty much full cruisers, or any of the single hangar types, but the science carriers like the Vo'Quv don't really have an obvious path to getting ship damage, especially on this budget. Their turn rate is terrible, which is a problem for most things, they have only 6 weapons so getting a lot from energy weapons is out, and they don't have a secondary deflector, which did do more on my science vessel build than the hangars did here.
So where did I end up, then? Well, with 6 science ability slots and not a ton of options I couldn't see not using them for some direct exotic damage. And since that required me to face forward, and the turn rate was terrible and I couldn't do much about it, I concluded that I'd have to use turrets in the rear with either beam arrays or single cannons forward, the two widest arc weapon combinations possible apart from pure turrets, although their damage potential is limited. The Chronometric set also seemed like a must have, providing a large amount of EPG and some Polaron cat1 from the tac console, and a bit of aux power from the 2 piece, but I wasn't sure whether I'd want the Morphogenic set or not, since it would mean sacrificing a cannon. Then, I went to the TRINITY DPS Calculator from STO BETTER and started plugging in some rough options. Single cannons outperformed beam arrays even with the Chronometric 3 piece, so that settled that, and getting the crtd from the Morphogenic 3 piece and Cannon Scatter Volley was well worth losing a forward cannon for the torp. Attack Pattern Beta proved a bigger contributor than expected thanks to boosting the exotic damage as well, which is why that's at 2 and CSV is at 1, and easily outperformed including a Torpedo Spread as well. Finally I switched the power settings away from a balanced configuration toward weapons over aux and aux over weapons, and the high aux version did best. So that was the build.
How did it perform? Well it was sluggish, obviously, I expected that. But the DPS was pretty impressive and was reflected in how quickly it got kills. And the survivability was pretty good, with a lot of hull and pretty good healing I really couldn't complain, except that it was so sluggish it was hard to run out of range and heal if I needed to. On the other hand when I did withdraw the fighters kept fighting, contributing to the highest Wanted Elite DPS of any of the builds in the table with only one attempt needed to survive the whole mission (the science vessel could do better by charging in and dying a couple of times, but needed to play cautiously and sacrifice its CPB to survive). They were even powerful enough to handle the Birds of Prey in Starbase One Advanced without any help from the mothership, potentially even without player input, which could be convenient.

Captain Details

Captain Name  Stilt

This skill tree is my generalist one from Strict Budget Build part 2, and it pretty much needs to be. This build relies on both energy weapon and exotic damage, so it can't afford to neglect either one. There are other generalist skill trees, of course, but that is what you'll need to be looking for, any single purpose tree isn't going to get the job done.

Ship Loadout: Vo'Quv Carrier

Slot  Item  Notes
Fore Weapon 1  Polaron Cannon  The one Mk XV, single cannons are usually a poor choice, but they will outperform beam arrays forward/turrets aft and provide 180 degrees of firing arc
Fore Weapon 2  Polaron Cannon  The Vo'Quv suffers from terrible turn rate so it doesn't want weapons with narrow arcs, but it needs to face forward for the exotic damage
Fore Weapon 3  Morphogenic Polaron Energy Torpedo Launcher   Here for the 3 piece set bonus providing 30% crtd to the whole ship

Aft Weapon 1  Heavy Chronometric Polaron Turret  Mostly need a turret, 2 piece provides some aux
Aft Weapon 2  Morphogenic Polaron Energy Weapon   Another turret, and contributes to the 3 piece
Aft Weapon 3  Polaron Turret  Just a turret

Deflector  Solanae Deflector Array Mk XII Very Rare  Provides more EPG out of the box than any other mission reward
Impulse Engines  Sol Defense Impulse Engines Mk XII Very Rare  With the bonus from getting hit this does just provide the best total turn rate out of the mission rewards at 14.7 degrees/s, replace with Fortified Competitive rep engines
Warp Core  Obelisk Subspace Rift Warp Core  This build only hits 122 aux so this doesn't actually help, could consider Deuterium-Stabilized but the benefit is minimal
Shields  Sol Defense Covariant Shield Array Mk XII Very Rare  2 piece is nice for survivability, alternative would be Jem'Hadar 2 piece for a bit of Polaron cat1.

Devices  Exotic Particle Flood  Crafted in Science R&D. I do have to admit that the materials are a little hard to come by, and Admiralty (with account unlocked ships) is the best source I've found.
Deuterium Surplus  Evasive Maneuvers in battery form, and you can collect 4 per day from the Alhena system.
Delta Alliance Reinforcements Beacon  Handy damage boost

3 Engineering Consoles  Console - Engineering - Trellium-D Plating Mk XII Very Rare  Good survivability console, could use a Neutronium instead
Console - Engineering - Polaric Modulator Mk XII Very Rare  Boosts Inertia, which is rare, as well as turn rate, and slipstream turn rate at warp
Console - Engineering - House Martok Defensive Configuration Mk XII Very Rare  Boosts turn rate and provides some survivability, an RCS would work too

4 Science Consoles  Console - Science - Temporal Disentanglement Suite Mk XII Very Rare  Nice crit and durability boost, plus some power.
Console - Science - Temporally Shielded Datacore Mk XII Very Rare  Slightly less EPG than Particle Generators but it makes up for it with the CtrlX
Console - Science - Particle Generator Mk XII Uncommon  Just need EPG
Console - Science - Particle Generator Mk XII Common

2 Tactical Consoles  Console - Tactical - Morphogenic Matrix Controller Mk XII Very Rare  For the 3 piece and some polaron cat1
Console - Tactical - Chronometric Capacitor Mk XII Very Rare  Good EPG, some aux from the 2 piece, and some Polaron cat1, and this build uses all of it

2 Hangar Bays  Hangar - To'Duj Fighters  These provide more DPS than any other hangar that's available by default, and they come with the ship, they will die in heavy AoE content, otherwise use two
Hangar - Delta Flyers  These have slightly less DPS than To'duj but almost never die in any content, but do require a level 65 KDF character for Cross Faction Flying. Could substitute B'rels for more DPS loss

Officer Details

Bridge Officers
Lt. Commander Tactical  Tactical Team I  Shield distribution and debuff clear, may cause firing cycle problems but I haven't seen it
Cannon: Scatter Volley I  Excellent weapon damage buff and also spreads APB to up to 3 targets
Attack Pattern Beta II  Unusual to slot this above the firing mode, but it boosts every damage source and weapon damage is only ~1/4 of the total

Lt. Commander Engineering  Emergency Power to Engines I  More than doubles speed and provides +2 turn rate, essential mobility for any build
Auxiliary to Structural I  Excellent heal and damage resist, and on a very short cooldown
Emergency Power to Weapons III  Major energy weapon damage boost

Commander Science  Hazard Emitters I  Good hull heal and debuff clear
Destabilizing Resonance Beam Good exotic damage, used with GW
  Photonic Officer II  Cooldown reduction
Gravity Well III  Good exotic damage and control

Lieutenant Science  Science Team I  Shield heal and debuff clear
Tyken's Rift I  Exotic damage, alternate with GW

Traits & Duty Officers

Personal Traits  Astrophysicist    A little bit of EPG
Cannon Training    A little more cannon damage
Conservation of Energy    Significant exotic damage while solo, but stacks don't last long
Deft Cannoneer    Boosts turn rate by 1, on this build we need it, from Cannons R&D
Fleet Coordinator    One of the best traits in the game when on a team
Give Your All    Excellent hull damage resistance, from Engineering R&D
  Operative    Some extra crit
Particle Manipulator    The most powerful trait for exotic damage, +50%/+29.6% crth/crtd on this build, from Science R&D
Photonic Capacitor    Extra Photonic Fleet is nice to have

Starship Traits  None    Unconventional Tactics from completing Strategist is definitely worth slotting here, but I kept it cheap.

Space Reputation Traits  None    You'll start picking these up very quickly, Precision and Advanced Targeting Systems are top picks.

Duty Officers  Projectile Weapons Officer    "Law" from A Fistful of Gorn, a bit of a pain to get there, but worth having
Projectile Weapons Officer    A common included in my first duty officer pack
Astrometrics Scientist    Uncommon, also in my first pack, handy to have set
Conn Officer    From Phoenix, a must have for mobility in any build

This table shows all damage sources in one Wanted Advanced run, with multiple lines from the same source summed together.

Now, let's talk keybinds. In STO on PC you're going to want to learn keybinding eventually, and most of it's not too hard and can be done through the chat window (although it is arguably better to create a separate text file with your binds, that's more complicated). The first thing I always do is to set up a secondary fire weapons button through settings, usually V, just in case I screw up and my intended fire keybind doesn't work. While I'm there I usually set Distribute Shields to Left Shift, it's a pretty good survivability boost, although a lot of people do say it can mess up firing cycles, but personally I've never noticed a problem. Then, the commands you'll want to know are "FirePhasers" or "FireAll", "+power_exec Distribute_Shields", and "+TrayExecByTray # #", where # is a number. Note that the list of commands needs quotation marks around it, and commands should be separated by "$$". So if you typed the following into the chat: /bind y "+TrayExecByTray 0 0 $$ +TrayExecByTray 0 1 $$ +TrayExecByTray 1 2 $$ +TrayExecByTray 1 3" That would create a keybind so that y would activate the first and second abilities in the row labeled 1, and the third and fourth abilities in the row labeled 2 (0 in a keybind means 1 in the UI, 1 means 2, 2 means 3, etc., that's just how it works), starting with the fourth ability in 2 and then proceeding backwards. From there on in it's personal preference, put things where they feel natural to you, where you're used to them being. What I use has evolved naturally over time, I make no claims that it's efficient, just that I'm used to it, and I use it on everything. For fire weapons, distribute shields, Emergency Power abilities, cooldown reduction, often Aux to Structural, and anything else I just want to keep active I use spacebar, like this: /bind space "FireAll $$ +power_exec Distribute_Shields $$ +TrayExecByTray 6 0 $$ +TrayExecByTray 6 1 $$ +TrayExecByTray 6 2 $$ +TrayExecByTray 6 3 $$ +TrayExecByTray 6 4" That's the first 5 slots in row 7, which is usually enough. Then for my firing modes, Attack Pattern Beta, and so on, things with short cooldowns I activate as I attack, I use the 7 key, no good reason for that it just happened, and the first 4 slots in row 3: /bind 7 "+TrayExecByTray 2 0 $$ +TrayExecByTray 2 1 $$ +TrayExecByTray 2 2 $$ +TrayExecByTray 2 3" And finally for my exotic builds I always put Gravity Well and Destabilizing Resonance beam on 2, using the next two slots in row 3, although it is true that the usual logic behind that doesn't apply here, I just did it out of habit: /bind 2 "+TrayExecByTray 2 4 $$ +TrayExecByTray 2 5" That's all the keybinds I use, everything else I activate manually, one at a time, but it does compress 13 keys I might want to be pressing down to 3, which helps a lot.
Now, the difficult thing about this build is that I really don't know how to suggest upgrading it, apart from the obvious necessity of some Competitive Reputation engines to get their Overcharge to improve turn rate, I made sure to use Aux to Structural to pair with the Fortified version of those. The damage is very divided between different types, with about 40% from hangars, 25% from exotics, and 21% from energy weapons, and it's not getting a lot out of any of them, but I'll provide my own ideas and the STO BETTER Basics links for all three. Currently the biggest damage source is the hangars, but trying to improve those would be expensive. Ideally you'd like to pick up Superior Area Denial from the Mirror Strike Wing Escort lockbox ship, or at least the Independent Wingmate space trait, but those are very expensive compared to this build. Even the more minor and less powerful Advanced Engineering – Hangar Craft Power Transmission consoles are starting at 1 million energy credits each on PC for either a Mk XII with a useless mod or a Mk II with an [EPG] mod, or 5 million for a Mk II with [Polaron], while Swarmer Matrix is going for 7 million. If you wanted to work on exotic damage you could of course pick up the Temporal reputation two piece, and then you might want Subspace Vortex or Very Cold in Space to replace the heals with some more damage, but those will cost you 9 million each, and really you'd want to pair them with Spore Infused Anomalies from the Somerville or Batlh C-store ships for a truly potent source of exotic damage. You might be able to get good exotic damage out of the Gravimetric Photon and Particle Emission Plasma torpedoes after picking up the Competitive engines, and those aren't as expensive, but they do give you a much narrower arc. And if you wanted to improve the energy weapons, of course there are reputation items you can pick up starting with the Discovery reputation shield, but you're pretty limited by the combination of poor turn rate and forward firing exotics. You could try to switch to dual (heavy) cannons, probably moving the torpedo to the rear and dropping the plain turret, but I don't think I'm a good enough pilot to pull that off even with Competitive engines, which would leave you with single cannons which have underwhelming base damage and very few set items to support them. I just don't know what direction to go in to make a really impactful improvement in this build.
Finally, here's the table of DPS testing in the Wanted patrol for all five equivalent budget builds. The Luna used the original, unaltered Strict Budget Build, using the mentioned swap of Emergency Power to Shields instead of Aux to Structural for better survivability against non-Borg. The Vor'cha sat somewhere between parts one and two of the Baby Step series, meaning it had exactly the same consoles as the Hegh'ta BoP and similar ones to the Jem Escort, and the beam equivalents of the phaser weapons, with exactly the abilities and personal traits in the Baby Step posts. It must also be said that the Vor'cha and Vo'quv were the only builds to never die on elite difficulty, and the Vor'cha was definitely the toughest, although all the builds took about 20 minutes to get through the mission so using them at that difficulty is a bad idea. The Hegh'ta of course used the Quick Looks 1 build, and the Jem Escort used the Quick Looks 2 build.
Elite (DPS thousands) Advanced 1 (DPS thousands) Advanced 2 Advanced 3 Advanced 4 Advanced Average
Hegh'ta Heavy BoP 20.0 20.1 21.5 22.5 23.2 21.8
Jem'hadar Escort 19.3 23.4 20.6 21.8 19.7 21.4

2024.05.15 09:14 kaleviko [All] When you read these stars

In Missing Pieces, Agent Phillip Jeffries checked in to a Buenos Aires Hotel named Palm De Luxe.
Another kind of "de luxe" is a Rolex wristwatch that according to the company itself is une montre de luxe. Another kind of palm is a date, as in a date palm. These seemingly unrelated kinds would then come back together because a Rolex watch has a date on its clock face, like seen when Andy glanced his in P5.
Stars turn, and the time presents itself.
Andy's Rolex was also linked to another luxury item, Mr C's 2015 Mercedes-Benz S 550 Coupé the three-pointed star of which matched the position of the hands of Andy's watch, giving us the likely answer to the Log Lady's P2 riddle about "stars turning" and the time presenting itself. There may have been all sorts of transformations here so that also another Mercedes, the 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse driven by the Polish Accountant, was this same item. As the story moved forward, it seems to have been in constant flux so that select characters and their surroundings kept wildly changing from one scene to another.
We got another riddle about stars in P13 when Hawk revealed his ancient map to Sheriff Truman. Earlier in P9, the deputies had found some information with two dates on a piece of paper inside a metal tube left behind by Major Briggs.
Hawk: "The Major also gave us a date, day after tomorrow. If you read these stars --"
Hawk waved his hand over the rudimentary starry sky of his map.
Hawk: "-- you find that same date --"
The date that Major gave them was a shooting star.
He pointed multiple times at a specific location on the map. We didn't see what it was exactly but since he had already pointed at the Major's old station on the Blue Pine Mountain, "that same date" was somewhere up and right from the mountain.
Among the stars on the map's sky, there was one different, a shooting star on the area that Hawk appeared to point at. But how could a date and a shooting star link to each other?
This takes us to Agent Tammy Preston whose real name was given in the credits as Tamara,. Coincidentally, the name "Tamara" means a date palm. She was also a star of different kind, like Albert recalled in P12.
Albert: "Agent Preston, you've been on our radar since you made the honors list at George Washington High, not to mention the dean's list at MIT and top of your class at Quantico."
Pay attention to the shooting star.
Later in P16, after telling her story, the manufactured Diane got agitated and draw her pistol. Whatever she planned to do, Albert and Tammy were faster and shot her. At 41:24, there was a strange glitch. Briefly, only Albert was behind the desk, drawing his weapon, whereas Tammy had disappeared. But after a quick cut to Diane getting hit, Tammy was back, shooting Diane as well.
As usual, the glitch right that moment probably urged us to pay attention to Tammy. On computer screens behind her, there were two FBI emblems. The emblem is decorated with 13 stars, making her surrounded by stars. She was shooting, and there was fire coming from her pistol.
Perhaps Tammy was the "date" that was also the "shooting star" in the starry sky on Hawk's map.
So, on one hand, we got a star linked to Rolex and Mercedes-Benz and on the other, a star linked to Tammy. Would these two star riddles perhaps meet each other so that ultimately they were about the same thing?
In P2, Mr C's Mercedes went to a storage and he got a Lincoln Town Car. Jack appeared to have got himself into some trouble with him. A bit later, Mr C told what happened.
Mr C: "I killed Jack two hours ago after he wired the car."
It wasn't clear if he meant the Mercedes-Benz or the Lincoln. Another strange exchange around wiring was later in P4 when the FBI team was wrapping up at Yankton airport.
Cole: "You're wearing a wire, Tammy." Tammy: "You asked me to!" Cole: "Right. Go wait in the restaurant."
The star turned, and an hourglass presented itself.
Frustrated, Tammy turned around and went in. The two men kept staring at her curvy walking. Perhaps the idea here was that as this star turned, an hourglass figure presented itself, the time of different kind.
That this was the association we needed to make was hinted by framing Tammy in the middle of a wider shot that had the fence reflected on the windows. Later in P12, when we got to Audrey and Charlie for the first time and camera panned slowly across the room, it stopped so that on the right, there was another kind of fence visible through a window while on the left, there was an actual hourglass on Charlie's desk.
Judy has a turning figure 8.
Another name for the hourglass body shape is "figure 8". In P17, the teapot version of Jeffries kept thinking about Judy when Cooper and Gerard paid him a visit, even if nobody was asking him about it.
Jeffries: "This ... is where you'll find Judy. There may be someone -- Did you ask me this?"
In the steam, the "two birds with one stone" symbol of the green ring appeared and quickly transformed into number 8. A dot appeared on it. The number turned around, just like Tammy turned her figure 8.
To Tammy and the blue rows.
The last we saw of Mr C's Mercedes-Benz was in P2 when it disappeared behind a coiling door that looked like a set of blue rows. Later in P12, Tammy agreed to join the FBI's Blue Rose task force, and they all cheered for her.
Cole: "To Tammy and the Blue Rose!"
You got a date with a Bell who might show up as a luxury timepiece.
In Missing Pieces, when Jeffries arrived to Hotel Palm De Luxe, he got a note from "Miss Judy". The receptionist held it for a while so that it was framed between a heavily decorated clock face and a bell. Perhaps this was the shot that gave Lynch the idea to cast Chrysta Bell in the role of a the character who would also appear as a luxury watch.
The male characters driving or having a Mercedes-Benz - the Mr C in the opening episode, garageman Jack in P2 and the Polish Accountant in P16 - or wearing a Rolex - Red in P6 and the Andy on the logging road in P7 - seem to all have been various incarnations of Phillip Jeffries, changing from one appearance to another. He was, after all, a former FBI Agent. At the same time, these cars and watches seem to have been abstractions for the same character who appeared as Tammy. Assuming she indeed was Judy, the two of them seem to have hit it off and gone together to their own worlds.
The Major also gave us a date. This would now take us to Cole's story he told to Albert and Tammy in P17.
Cole: "For 25 years, I've kept something from you, Albert. Before he disappeared, Major Briggs shared with me and Cooper his discovery of an entity, an extreme negative force called in olden times 'Jowday.' Over time, it's become 'Judy.' Major Briggs, Cooper, and I put together a plan that could lead us to Judy."
The little story was prefaced with inconsistent acting and repeated footage, as seems usual to help us connect the dots. At 2:21, there was a shot of Tammy and Albert. Then back to Cole who quietly stared at Albert and then looked at something in front of Tammy. Cut back to the other two, Tammy's wine glass had jumped to another location, and now she held her right arm with her left. There was a cut back to Cole, repeating the exact same footage we just saw, with him again looking at something in front of Tammy.
The glitching may have suggested that the topic of Cole's story was right there, listening how the boys had a plan to get to her. Apparently, the Major had had a role to play why and how she was there - it was him who had discovered Judy and given the "date", apparently then Tamara Preston. Coincidentally, later in the episode, she was in the Twin Peaks Sheriff's station 10/2 at 2:53pm.
But there were two dates on the Major's slip of paper, implying that things weren't quite as straightforward.

2024.05.15 09:03 antiklimaktic Accident

Unfortunately yesterday I got in a lil accident in Los Angeles. I was waiting for a left hand turn in my truck down a small one lane street and saw a young adult pull up to the light on a personally owned e-scooter, came to a stop and turned around looking back. The light was green, so I took that as him waiting/not taking the light and continued my turn. As I crossed he hit the gas on his e-scooter and ran into the rear quarter panel of my truck damaging the front tire of his scooter. I was going about 10mph not speeding. I got out and made sure he was ok. He was fine took pics of the license plate and I gave him my phone number and said I’d pay for the scooter. We agreed and parted ways. Never gave him my name, address, insurance etc. just my number and the pic of the license plates.
Now his brother is texting me saying he’s not well he’s really bad they need to take him to the hospital and his finger and foot hurts. Sent me an inflated non itemized bill for the scooter at 1400$, when I went to the website the most expensive scooter on there is 800$ and 500$ the next one. I think they got two scooters with insurance and tryna make me pay for both of them by refusing to show the itemized receipt.
I get the feeling their gonna try and take me on a money run or threaten to sue and make a police report. What should I do if they try to pursue that route instead of me paying for the scooter? And can they file anything against me with the info they have? Number and license plate. No video footage. Just my word against his. I didn’t hit and run.

2024.05.15 08:57 OrcElite1 G2 New Balance - how to use the extra hotkeys?

Hello. I'm playing the New Balance mod, and so far really enjoying it. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how you use the extra hotkeys. The 11-20. I've found out how to put items on them. While in inventory, holding shift and pressing 1 will put it on 11. Shift and 2 will put it on 12, and so on. But I can't figure out how to equip these hotkeyed items in-game. Shift + 1 drinks a potion, as does shift + numbers up to 6. I've looked in the mod options menu, as well as the help menu (letter H), but nowhere does it say how to use these hotkeys in-game. Anyone know? I'm playing a mage, so having 10 additional hotkeys would be super useful.
I'm also using Magus the Magician's English translation (found on Nexus Mods), which translates everything very nicely as it's done by hand. But still no info on how to equip these specific hotkeys. Any help would be much appreciated.

2024.05.15 08:56 haroldonpatrol What if S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats had side-effects for extreme values (beyond unique dialogue)? What would you want to see?

The idea is that these would be the effects of either a 10 (High) or a 1 (Low) in any given SPECIAL stat. This would probably only work if the base stat can’t be changed (like in FO4), but effects of items/perks are considered additions to the base value.
These are mostly just ideas for fun, as I’m sure they would be hard to integrate in a game or even game-breaking.

2024.05.15 08:55 Hunnyandmilk My rich friend is making a student film about being poor and I hate it

I grew up in a small rural ski town where I was one of the poorest kids in my elementary school. My mom had just moved my brother and me away from my dad and we were struggling, we lived in motels for a bit and crashed at some of her friends' houses before moving into a cheap basement suit with two bedrooms, my brother got his own while I shared a room with my mom. There was only one twin-sized bed so she would usually sleep on our armchair in the living room so I could have the bed. She worked two jobs at a grocery and convenience store while putting herself through night school in the town over. We didn't have much money for food so my school lunches were always one item, usually some form of squash or a Ziploc of lentils. Being in a mountain town in Canada you can imagine how cold it was in the winter; we didn't have a car so my brother and I had to walk to school in freezing temperatures, by the time we got there I was in tears with a red nose and my hair frozen solid. It took a while for things to get better but they did when my mom got her nursing license and picked up a stable job, eventually, we moved up to middle class and the moment I was old enough to work I wouldn't stop. I saved almost everything I made from the age of thirteen. My brother joined the military and I focused on school and sports so I could get into college which I'm glad to say I successfully did. I moved to the city for school and everything was so different, all of the friends I made came from ridiculously rich families and went out almost every night since they had the money to spend on drinks and clubs. I'm in engineering while the majority of my friends are in some form of the arts, we got along because I'm a bookworm. I was speaking with one of them who I'll call Shannon, she's in screenwriting and cinematography in the hopes of becoming a director. She mentioned to me that she wants to make her student film centred around poverty and the working class to shine a light on it. During this discussion, The Florida Project (a great movie) was brought up, I told her that I related heavily to that movie and she kind of huffed a laugh and then said "What? Did you live in a motel or something?" To which I answered "Yes," With a straight face. I could tell that Shannon felt bad since she clearly didn't know how I was brought up since it isn't something I tend to slip into casual conversation. Shannon asked more questions about my childhood and what it was like to live in poverty, we left the topic alone after that day but two weeks later she came to me with her screenplay and asked me to read it. I was appalled to say the very least. She had taken my very personal stories and turned them into an extra shitty episode of Euphoria. Everything I had told her had been put into her script but not as I told them, the main character went through these things and was unphased by everything that happened, disappointed in her mother for not doing enough and fighting with her evil drug addict brother. I wanted to cry, specifically at the depiction she had turned my family into, my hard-working and loving mother was written off to just be a slacker when in reality she was doing absolutely everything she could to give both me and my brother a good life and then my straight edge military brother was turned into the scum of the earth. The depiction of my poverty she wrote had me sick to my stomach, the main character was a sex addict, the mother was an alcoholic, and the brother had a drug addiction as well as abused the main character. I told her that not every person living in poverty was poor because of an addiction or crutch and sometimes it was just an unfortunate circumstance, in our case, it was fleeing from my abusive dad and trying to get on our feet. It also irked me how she had written it to be completely tragic and sad but I was a child for most of it and didn't realize how bad it was; when the power would go out it would be a fun game of lights out for me and my brother, we didn't understand why my mom was so stressed out when we had to stay in hotels, all we knew was that we got to share a bunk bed and go swimming in the indoor pool. I wanted her to understand that we were still regular people when we were impoverished, we were just that, regular people who didn't have much. Shannon seemed embarrassed that I was so upset about what she wrote, it took me fifteen minutes to read the entire thing and we sat in complete silence as I did so, when I reached the last page I was crying. At first, she thought I was crying because I was so moved by her glamourization of addiction and poverty before I told her that I hated it. That was when Shannon began to cry. I had shut down her screenplay as soon as I finished it and I asked why she was crying. She moved on to say "It's loosely based on what you told me, it isn't meant to be you and your family." I wanted to laugh when she said this, even the name of the main character rhymed with mine, she kept the tragic events and cut out the good memories as well as the good nature of my mom and brother, I was livid. I want to tell you about one scene that made me want to strangle her: The family's power went out on the main character's birthday so they lit tea candles to see in the dark, the mother lit a cigarette with one of the candles before calling her daughter a slut and putting it out in her birthday cake- what happened in real life was the power had gone out on my birthday, my mom worked all day and came home with a discounted pride cake since my birthday is in June. My brother and I had lit the tea candles long before my mom came home, she smeared the 'Happy Pride!' text on the cake replaced 'pride' with 'birthday' using Nesquik then used the tea candles to light the candles for my cake. This was the first time I had ever gotten a birthday cake, I was eleven and it's one of my happiest memories to date. I'm realizing this is too long so I'll finish it off, she's proceeding with the student film despite me asking her not to and offering different plots to follow instead. Shannon had blocked my number and I haven't heard from her in a week aside from awkwardly seeing her around campus to which she looks the other direction and ignores me.
